  • The perfect blend of country, nature and creature comforts. Deanie is a marvelous hostess who provided a superb breakfast (more like a brunch) with her unique recipes and abundant fresh fruits. A horse ranch in the Shenandoah valley, our poolside room was just what we needed. Thanks again, Deanie, for a very pleasant stay!

  • The farm was beautiful and very relaxing. We were the only people there for the night which made it even better because we had the whole place to ourselves. We used the hot tub, sat poolside, and even were able to grill a nice steak dinner. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and our hostess was good at reading us and providing a little bit of conversation but also giving us our space to enjoy each other's company. The only negative about our stay was that we had booked a room with a queen-sized bed and upon arrival we discovered our bed was a full. Overall, the trip was wonderful and we definitely recommend Penmerryl to anyone looking to stay there.

  • We had a great night staying with Deanie and Ken. They are very welcoming and overly accommodating to each guests needs. My husband has a Gluten Allergy that I failed to tell Deanie about until we arrived late at night. By the time morning came around, a full GF breakfast was prepared! This is just one example of how much they truly care about each guest that comes through their beautiful B&B!

  • Our stay at Penmerryl was fantastic. Gammon did a wonderful job of reaching out to us with all the information we would need. Although we arrived late in the evening, Emily met us in person and showed us to our room. In the morning, Emily made a delicious breakfast. We look forward to our next stay at Penmerryl.

  • Gammon is a wonderful host! She made us feel so welcome and made sure we had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. The location is breathtaking surrounded by mountains, hills and incredible views. Gammon is also an amazing cook and made a delicious hearty breakfast! The room was clean, spacious and the beds were very comfortable. Looking forward to going back very soon. Thank you Gammon!

  • We fell very quickly in love with Penmerryl Farm! It is an immaculately kept facility and the hospitality was superb. Gammon was most warm and welcoming...and an amazing cook!! Such a wonderful setting for walking and enjoying the view, and watching the horse activity. We had the privilege of staying there as we traveled to and from Tennessee, and as we arrived on our journey home it was like coming home! We were truly blessed to be there and look forward to returning.

  • This is a lovely location for a Bed & Breakfast. It is out in the middle of nowhere (some of us like that!), among the rolling hills of the Virginia countryside. There are TONS of amenities, including a pool, hot tub, billiards/TV room, fire pit, tennis court, hiking trails, and access to a small lake. If you want to get away, this is the place to do it. The host was super accommodating--letting us check in early to enjoy the space longer (since we were only there for one night) and allowing us to pay for our children (who had not stayed the night with us) to join us for breakfast. And, as everyone else has said, the breakfast is really amazing. One source of frustration/disappointment is that there was no one to check us in, and we were kind of left to ourselves. We had no idea where anything was or where we were allowed to be and not be. We only found the breakfast room because someone left the door open and I curiously poked my head in. Also, the hot tub was closed for renovation. It would have been nice to know this ahead of time. Still, it was a lovely place, and I could easily be persuaded to visit again.

  • First I want to say that we had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend at the farm. We really enjoyed the beautiful location, canoes, and excellent breakfast. A couple things to note though... The listing shows 2 lakes but really the property only has 1 (the same one). But we didn't know this until after putting our kayak on the larger one and being kicked off. Also, the grill did not work properly. Either it was almost out of propane or just not working well. It took everyone a very long time to cook our dinner and so there was a wait and we didn't eat until very late. Lastly, we were hoping to ride the horses like the listing mentions. I contacted the host weeks in advance, twice, and never got a response. Finally I asked again a couple days before and got a response that the horses were privately owned and we couldn't ride. So I wouldn't plan on visiting the farm and planning on riding horses. Still a lovely place and the smaller lake was well stocked for fishing. Just wanted to mention the inaccuracies in the listing.

  • I can not say enough about our stay at this lovely farm! From the moment that we stepped onto the property, Deanie was already going above an beyond to make our stay at Penmerryl extraordinary. Not only was she so excited to greet us, but when my father-in-law mentioned that his glasses were broken she quickly found an eyeglass repair kit and fixed them for us! Besides the wonderful landscape, the boating on the lake, the beautiful horses and the relaxing pool, the most memorable part for me was the AMAZING breakfast! We had everything from peach french toast to cheesy grits and homemade bread. It was unbelievably delicious :) We also had a lovely time getting to know Deanie and her family. It is definitely the kind of place where you engage in great conversations and get to know the people who are around you. We were so lucky to find this little diamond in the rough :)

  • We stayed one night at Penmerryl on the way from New York to North Carolina and liked it so much that we went back there on the way back; this time for 2 nights. Once again we had a great time. Deanie and Ken and their children were born to be hosts. They seem to be able to make all their guests relax and provide superb hospitality. I'd go back tomorrow.

  • Everything at Penmerryl farms was lovely. When we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and right at home. we were given a brief tour of the property and were told about the lovely home-cooked breakfasts , and the large rec room that had a pool table, ping pong, other games and satellite tv. Then were left to unpack and take in the picturesque scenery. We wandered around the trails and took in some of the sights in the evening and lounged by the pool in the sunny afternoon. My boyfriend and I had a lovely time and would certainly come back!

  • Quiet, cozy, and simply beautiful! My wife and I are traveling across the US and stayed over one night. Our dog was welcome and she enjoyed her stay too. The breakfast was delicious and the pool was refreshing.

  • My friend and I stopped here for the night on a cross country road trip and we loved it! Such a great price for everything this place has! Great breakfast, comfy beds, refreshing swimming pool, and beautiful views. Highly recommended!

    Meghan2017-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay! so relaxing! We lounged in the hot tub & cooled off in the pool in the evening. In the morning, we were served a wonderful breakfast, walked to the lake & met some of the horses. Everyone was very friendly & helpful. If you are a horse person, you would love this place. It was so nice to get off the road & into the countryside. The accommodations are pretty basic for people and quite upscale for horses.

    Sara2017-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at the farm! Deanie is such a joy, my kids fell in love with her and wanted to stay another night. Beautiful location! The rooms are very clean and the breakfast is out of this world yummy! I highly recommend a stay here!

    Beth 2012-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Tucked away off the main roadways, the farm is a beautiful place to stay. We were looking for a quiet and relaxing stop before moving onto DC on our east coast roadtrip and this was perfect. Deanie was an amazing host! We got a tour of the property and saw some beautiful horses. Breakfast was cooked by her on the spot and it was fresh and filling. A must stay if you live nearby.

Enjoy the Meriwether Log Cabin nestled at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains with lovely views from the front porch, small pond out back and 2 minute hike to creek. Great for getaways, family gatherings with big deck & firepit to sit & enjoy nature. If you are a returning guest, please ask for our returning guest discount.
This is a lovely log cabin getaway at the foot of the Blue Ridge Moutains approx 20 miles from Lexington & Staunton, VA or 60 miles from Charlottesville, VA. Just atop the mountain you can connect to Blue Ridge Parkway. The cabin is only 11 miles (22 minutes) from the beautiful waterfall of Crabtree Falls. In the heart of the little town of Vesuvius, VA, you'll enjoy beautiful mountain views and yet not be too far off the familiar paths.
Walk over our nature trail to sit by the side of the river and be sure to bring your river shoes. We ask that you respect our neighbor's privacy - there is a church right next to us and two B&B's.
  • Great place! Beautiful surroundings!

    Tamara2017-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • The Meriwether log cabin was perfect for our weekend getaway to celebrate my husband's daughter's 30th birthday with her friends and our dogs. There was plenty of room for everyone, a nice common area, and a beautiful piece of land that we all enjoyed. We also enjoyed some board games and the fire pit. We had a great time. Thank you, Mary!

    Sally2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • You don't want to miss out on this gem. It is warm and inviting. It is very clean and equipped with most anything one would need. There is plenty of space so everyone has space. The deck is amazing with a view of the woods and pond. The fire pit is perfect! We will be back!!!!❤️❤️

    Julie2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, tranquil setting perfect for the weekend. Within drive distance to many great parks with hiking trails and beaches. Would stay again! Very communicative host. Cabin has all the necessities and more.

    Greg2016-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was lovely and felt very warm and welcoming. The beds were extremely comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with the necessary stables. It was parents' weekend at VMI so we were gone most days. Since it rained most of the time also, we did not have the opportunity to enjoy the fire ring at night or any other outdoor aminities. I would definitely recommend the cabin to others and would like to go back myself to relax. My grandson enjoyed having a place to bring other cadets whose s parents were not able to make it for the weekend out for a home cooked dinner each night and the cadets seemed to feel very comfortable and at home in the cabin.

    Barbara2016-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin was perfect for a weekend family getaway. It was so nice we didn't mind that it rained all weekend. The cabin has s rustic feel in a country setting but has a modern kitchen and conveniences. Very clean and well maintained - the owners take a lot of pride in the place. Mary met us there to show us around and provided some nice touches like locally-grown vegetables (which we had for dinner). The location provides easy access to both the Blue Ridge Parkway and I-81 for exploring the Shenandoah Valley. The kids loved sleeping in the loft. A lot of space and comfort for a very reasonable rate!

    Brian2015-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Totally hassle free entry. Upon arrival, we found a very nice welcome basket with a variety of items that we found useful. We have an annual retreat for five sisters. This year's was by far the easiest for check out. They took care of every thing for us. All we had to do was turn the dishwasher on. The fire wood for our pit fires was there for us as was a full stock of spices, paper products and a cabinet with many kitchen staples. The side deck is a great place to hang out and grill or smoke your food. We enjoyed ourselves immensely.

    Sheila2015-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at the cabin, it was in a very relaxing setting and very clean. The cabin is located adjacent to a church but it was very quiet. The photos and description of the cabin were accurate and the communication with Mary was very good.

  • Allison and her family were great hosts. Warm and welcoming. Our entire family thought it was a great experience. I would recommend this home to everyone. We will definitely be back. Loved it!!

    Patty2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • This home is located in a stunningly beautiful location. It's a hidden gem so if you get a chance to visit then you should take the opportunity. The home is very large, clean, well organized, and on a beautiful historic working farm. I was very pressed for time and had only a limited time to visit, but I was tempted to put life on hold just to stay for another day!

    Jason2017-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Peaceful, well appointed, fulfilling, tasteful, warm, inviting and engaging. This description doesn't even touch on the beauty of this location and the cottage. Step out of the front door and onto a porch facing lush gardens, step out of the back door and find a slate deck with an outdoor fireplace, step out the side door and see the lush pastures filled with gentle cows, step into the front door and find well preserved and refinished plank flooring and a wood stove, enter the kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless appliances, enjoy the 1st floor bathroom that is completely remodeled...everything has been lovingly placed and restored to provide a wonderful place to stay among the heifers that grace the farm and the horses. donkey and goats that add humor and pleasure. This is our 2nd visit and we will return again and again.

    Chuck2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Alison's cozy cottage on the farm. It was quiet in there. Thehouse was clean and nicely kept. Kids loved the place. Just that there was no AT&T phone network in the house and around and there was no home phone or wifi either so we were kind of cutoff from the world. Was not a problem. It would have been nice to know if listed in the details though. We had two 5 year old kids who absolutely loved the farm.

    Megha2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay! Clean and comfortable house. Would 100% recommend to a friend staying in the area!

    David2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • The cozy cottage is absolutely wonderful. We had everything we needed...kitchen utensils, plenty of towels, sheets, movies, games and more. The house is renovated, the garden is amazing and the view is breathtaking. The part we liked the most was the time we spent with Alison and her son. They are so nice. They took time to show us their animals and answer all of our questions. My five year old was able to feed a goat, to ride a horse and to run around the farm. Alison is a great host. This is a place we will definitely go back soon. Highly recommended!

  • Staying on this farm was a wonderful experience. The house, scenery, and hosts are all wonderful. We will be returning. The house has plenty of rustic charm, mixed with updated bathrooms/kitchen and very comfortable beds. We brought 3 kids and a dog. There was plenty of room for everyone.

  • Cheryl's cabin was BEAUTIFUL. The pictures do not do the place justice at all. It seems newly constructed or at least recently renovated. Most important to me are the views, and both the covered porch and loft boasted amazing mountain views. Cheryl was so sweet to coordinate with, and I wish we could have met while we were there! My husband, myself and our dog had a wonderful time, and would definitely return.

Experience a Blue Ridge Mountain Fall and 70 years of history in this 1940’s renovated fishing cabin! Guests adore Parr's Camp with it's country kitchen, 3 ½ bedrooms & 1½ baths. This home is great for families that need space. Four porches and a unique sitting area with a fireplace, where fishermen once gathered to tell stories await you. A deck overhangs a calm pond & the North Fork of the Tye River flows steps away, where native trout can be caught from the ever-changing mountain stream.
Unique features include: Deck over pond in the back (old fashioned pond boats), Grill/fire pit/fireplace/cook stove (starter wood provided). Relax on the screened porch w/picnic table, rockers! While fishing in the pond is not an option (it is more of an aquarium to us), we encourage you to fish in the river in front of the house or anywhere on the Tye River. We also love the Montebello fish pond, just a short jaunt up the road. Located on the North Fork of the Tye River, Tyro, Va. (Nelson,County). Accessed by main Va. State paved roads, the road in and our driveway is gravel. Watch for speed humps. Closet airports are Lynchburg and Charlottesville (both 55 minute drive).

  • What a great place! The cabin was much larger than expected yet had a warm, cozy atmosphere. It was also immaculately clean and well maintained. The cabin had a great scenic view that could be enjoyed from the cabin's many porches. The cabin was easy to find and Beverly was inviting and accommodating. The location is close to many local hikes, the Appalachian Trail, and not far from the local breweries. We had a blast!

  • A very relaxing and clean property. Our host was gracious, kind and communicated exceptionally throughout the whole process. Thank you for a lovely visit.

    Patti2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Rustic yet very charming little house in the woods! Plenty of space for 6 people with multiple sitting areas inside as well as outside. We really enjoyed the little antique and salvaged items scattered around the property. We had everything we needed for a very relaxing visit, EXCEPT any kind of cell service! This was only slightly inconvenient as it was possible to make calls and receive messages after driving a few miles down the road. I only mention this so visitors can plan ahead. We will definitely be back!

The Rose Cottage sits on 74 acres in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley midway between Staunton and Lexington. It is very private, but conveniently located minutes away from scenic Rt. 11 and Interstates 81 and 64. Only minutes away from Washington & Lee University, Virginia Military Institute, and Mary Baldwin University.
The Cottage is your home away from home. It is a quiet retreat from the distractions of daily life. You will enjoy sitting on the deck with your morning coffee or tea, watching the local wildlife. You might see plenty of Virginia white-tail deer, sometimes with their fawns nearby, rabbits, maybe a fox, raccoons, chipmunks, squirrels and more. There are birds of all types - from hawks and the occasional eagle to bluebirds, cardinals, swallows, sparrows, towhees, etc. we put out feeders and birdbaths, so you can have a close-up view if you sit quietly. You can enjoy making breakfast with the goodies stocked in the kitchen, including fresh eggs from our own hens and ducks. You might hear our peacocks calling, the neighbor's cows softly lowing or the donkeys down the road braying. Don't miss sunset at the Cottage! With an expansive view of the sky, and almost no light pollution, so you can sit back and wonder at the beautiful sunset colors and a magnificent night sky.
The Cottage is part of a rural neighborhood. It is secluded, but not at all isolated. The views are gorgeous and the night sky is simply amazing on a clear night.
  • We really loved the peaceful setting and the views. Beds were comfortable and kitchen well-stocked (even fresh eggs and snacks for the kids!). Our son is a runner and enjoyed running the paths through the woods in the morning. Peaceful but convenient to Lexington. We loved having a fire to roast marshmallows in fire pit in the evening and watching the stars. We would definitely return and really had a wonderful Easter weekend trip.

  • We had a great experience The house is in a secluded area surrounded by fields but just off Route 11. It's spacious and well-kept, with views from every room. Comfortable beds - nice sitting area - and a wonderful, well stocked kitchen. And a good selection of books for readers. Jay and Anita were very responsive and welcoming - even breakfast food and snacks. We'd happily return.

    Ann2016-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • The Rose Cottage was perfect for our stay! We arrived later than expected and Jay met us there with a smile and lots of helpful information. The property is beautiful and is easy to get to. Three little chipmunks kept us entertained on the back deck. It's a great place to stay and I'd recommend it to anyone.

  • This place is absolutely beautiful

  • Jay and Anita were wonderful hosts. From the time I made the reservation until the day we left they were responsive and gracious. They had filled the house with breakfast foods, cleaning supplies, shampoos, and even little lotions. They greeted us when we arrived and helped unload our bags. They had lots of wonderful advice for where to stay or go. While they were more than happy to show us around, they also were very respectful of our space. The house itself is even more gorgeous than the pictures. The view behind the house is spectacular! The location is ideal for hiking, sightseeing drives, or exploring different historical attractions. The nearby town of Lexington VA has delicious restaurants. We each had our own bedroom and there are 2 full baths. We absolutely are planning to stay here again. P.S. Cell service is excellent at the house.

  • The cottage is spacious and comfortable. It's quiet with a nice view. Easy to find and close to Rt 11 for easy access to everything. Jay and Anita kept in touch. Jay got us a few things before our arrival so we didn't have to shop right away. No wifi, but good cell service with our Tracfone. HIGHLY recommend this property!

  • Longview is a tranquil, enchanting place to stay. The yurt has everything you could possibly want: board games, hammock, herbs, coffee! Can't wait to visit again sometime.

    McKinnon2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We can't say enough kind things! As our first stop on our cross country roadtrip, Longview spoiled us to all other Airbnbs and was by far our favorite stay. Fresh biscuits waited for us when we checked in, there was supplies and fire starters to build your own little fire, and in the morning we enjoyed coffee by the pond. Our only complaint, we wish we could have stayed longer! Thank you Sandy and Angie for a wonderful beginning to our trip!!

    Dorothy2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • This yurt was awesome and exactly what my family of 5 needed. Sandy and Angie have put a lot of work and paid extra attention to detail by providing about anything you can think of to make the stay wonderful. My family enjoyed the board games as well as the outdoor games. The hammock and creek were great as well.

    TARA2017-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • This yurt is phenomenal and a total paradise. They have thought of everything, from drinking water to fire starter. You really don't need to bring much to enjoy this fantastic space. We had everything we needed for a great fire and had a great time grilling for each meal. Our pup loved the grounds too!

    Eva2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Add this stop yo your list and you will not be disappointed!

    Genevieve2017-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Longview was a secluded paradise!! Sandy and Angie have done an excellent job creating the perfect place to kick back and relax. They've got it all covered. It was even nicer than advertised. On top of everything else, they even let us check in early when we were in serious need of some rest. I can't say enough good things about their little slice of heaven.

Artist's farm house, 3 bedroom house on 3 acres, great in all seasons. Heated by wood fire or electric heat and complete with wifi, cows, creek, mountain views. Close to Lexington, Staunton, Blue Ridge. Ideal for families, couples, come breathe the country air! Beautiful stream stars, mountain air.
Mountain view, wood burning furnace, fire pit, rushing stream.
    Quiet, peaceful.
  • What a fantastic place! Brendan was a brilliant host - very easy to coordinate with and very flexible, in particular with our constantly changing party size. In terms of the house itself, it is really amazing - set in a serene, private countryside, very relaxing and enjoyable both outdoors and inside. It is uniquely and tastefully decorated and has the summer home getaway feel to it, and also very very cozy! There is also a lot to enjoy on the property outside, with a large patio, the creek, places to sit alongside it and the hammock over the creek. Really really lovely. Everyone in our group really loved our stay and we cannot wait to have the chance to return!

    Miina2016-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at this house. It is waaay out of the way (no att cell reception and a dirt road) but the house was spotlessly clean, incredibly peaceful and well appointed. Brendan has clearly lived an interesting life evidenced by mementos from around the world. The kitchen was our favorite room wit plenty of room for our family of four to gather and cook. All the beds were I believe futons but we were comfortable. Be sure to map your route before you arrive and bring a flashlight if you get there after dark the first night.

    Bill2015-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time here. The house was a beautiful old farmhouse with great character and charm. The yard was open and large with a great deck. The kitchen was well stocked with nice kitchen supplies. There were clean towels and plenty of toilet paper and other amenities too. We also loved the outdoor shower - a must-try in the summer months! While the house didn't have air conditioning, opening the windows made it downright chilly at night, even in August. We can't wait to come back.

    Amy2015-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • We loved at stay at the cottage! It was exactly as described in the listing and Brendan was very responsive to all our questions. We particularly liked the cows out back. The house was easy to find and conveniently located within an hour of Shenendoah National Park skyline drive and Charlottesville. The house had modern amenities like a smart TV (no cable, but had netflix so we were happy), good wifi. Verizon service was a little spotty but not an issue for us. The house was completely private and very clean inside. The kitchen was great with all the cups/pans/plates/utensils etc that you could want. There were 1.5 bathrooms. The big bathroom has a clawfoot tub with a shower attachment. There is also an outdoor shower. It was a little cold and rainy so we didn't venture into the outdoor shower. We loved it here and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to really get away from it all!

    Caitlin2015-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Brendan is a very good host. Ready to please his guest. The house is lovely in the middle of a beautiful and powerful nature. The garden is bucolic. Goshen Pass, a magnificent mountain gorge is just 15 minutes away where we enjoyed swimming in the river with my family. I definitely recommend Bredan's house. A peaceful place.

    Olivier2015-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time. The house is very very comfortable. Great size kitchen we only stayed one night but wish we could have stayed longer and eaten some meals on the outdoor the deck. It was a magical place. Tons of fairies and leprechauns and the baby cows were a delight. I highly recommend it here.

    EJ2015-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Brendan's awesome house and meadow offers legendary levels of mountain tranquility. The hammock by the creek is just perfect. Brendan was great, the house is super cool.

    Joe2016-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed for two nights with my girlfriend to attend a wedding in Lexington. It was a great! Certainly much, much better than taking the room black at the hotel. The old farmhouse is very private and is situated in a beautiful setting. If you want to get away from it all and aren't afraid to be a few miles down a dirt road, then this is a good choice for you. I met Brendan, the host, at the beginning of the stay. He was extremely helpful and I enjoyed chatting with him for a few minutes. Also, for those of you wondering, there was a baby cow ;)

Beautiful antique-laden historic home conveniently located near intersection of I-81 and I-64 in Shenandoah Valley. Great for outdoor-enthusiasts, family and pet friendly.
Quiet neighborhood with lots of privacy.
  • Delbert shares his beautiful home with a warm welcome. The antiques throughout the house including in our bedrooms were a pleasure to behold. Like spending the night in a very well designed and comfortable museum. We also appreciated that he gave us a really rapid response to our booking inquiry.

    Rebecca2017-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Quaint, comfortable, historic home - and pet friendly - which we loved! Host, Delbert is super nice and very welcoming. Very positive experience!

    Janet2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • This house is conveniently located off of 81 so we booked it for a night on our trip down to TN. Do not let the lack of photos scare you. This historic home is loaded with personality and decorated in antiques. I would have loved to know more about the history of the house. The owner, Delbert, could not have been more gracious and was waiting for us on the porch with a smile when we rolled up at the end of the window we had given for our late arrival (coming from NJ). The AirBnB part is a separate section of the house with a dining room, a comfortable sitting room, and upstairs, two bedrooms and a bathroom. Oh, and a porch that faces the small town side road. I could spend a lot of time hanging on the porch with a good book. I understand that this rental is a work in progress and that more bedrooms will be added to the guest area in due course. Late night food choice in the town are limited to the truck stop and the Arby's so either opt for one of those or make decision you are going to be hungry before 11:30 pm. An important lesson for New Jersey kids who are used to 24 hour food choices at diners and Wawa's. The log cabin/convenience store is a couple of minutes down the street, easily walked to, and a good place for a quick breakfast or beverages. This AirBnB was one of the best values I have ever run across and beats the snot out of staying in a nondescript highway chain hotel. I wholeheartedly recommend it, particularly for lovers of old buildings and travellers who are looking for something other than an easily forgotten, overpriced stay at a mediocre hotel.

    Ann2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely evening at Delbert's home. The rooms were spacious and quiet. We also had our own sitting room and dining area. Perfect distance from the highway as we were passing through the area on our way home. Very welcoming toward our therapy dog. Very much recommended.

    Laura2017-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Delbert is a kind, gracious host, and his home is charming. I enjoyed my stay. The guest quarters are extensive. I was on my own but the apartment could accommodate several guests. Garden is lovely. House is easy to reach from Route 64.

    Bridget2017-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Pretty cool to get to stay in such an old house, surrounded by so many antiques; a little history lesson that gave us a peek at living in an early American home. Beds and bathroom were clean and comfortable--both are on the small side, in keeping with the historical period of the house. Del clearly has a passion for antiques and is enthusiastic about sharing his hobby with others. He was a gracious host and was eager to make sure we were comfortable, readily extending offers to provide anything we might need.

    Ruthie2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Delbert was extremely friendly and so flexible with us. His place is clean and very charming with all the antique decor. Location was great near Staunton. There was a window AC unit that was a bit noisy, but once you got used to it everything was fine.

    Angelique2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at the Levi Smith house was my first AirBnB. I was pleased with the accommodations (the beds were very comfortable) and Delbert was an ideal host, helping us when needed, and giving us space otherwise. As suggested in his listing, his two dogs were friendly. The location was beautiful and convenient to both the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. We enjoyed playing board games in his garden and appreciated the opportunity to cook our own meals in his well stocked kitchen. I would definitely stay there again.

  • Escaped for a weekend in beautiful Greenville, VA at Bed&Breakfast at Penmerryl Farm where we had two woderful hosts, Deanie and Ken. Will go back for sure! We had a blast, from the super delicious breakfasts Deanie cooked for us to the pit fire drinks late night under the starry sky, to Ken's stories about sailing around the world, everything was awesome and we felt relaxed during the 2 days we stayed with our bulldogs. Thank you guys!

  • The farm was beautiful! My family and I loved walking at night and seeing the horses. We went on a beautiful stroll to the lake at sunset. The beds were very comfortable and the room was clean and cozy. But the best part was the homemade breakfast! It was amaaazing. Such a wonderful stay and we hope to be back soon!

We also took advantage of the hot tub. Lastly, Gammon sent us off with a delicious breakfast frittata and all the extras. Had a great stay, would visit again.

  • A beautiful b&b on a horse farm: the rooms are simple and clean, there's a pool and a shared lawn & seating area, and an indoor hot tub. In October there were a handful of other guests, and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. It was a restful place to stay, in lovely countryside.

  • This is a nice place on the mountain--where you can unwind and de-stress. No cell service which is great--there is a land line so in case of emergencies you can be reached. Great place for a group to hang out--a bit large for a couple! There are 3 bedrooms with doors to close them off, with additional beds scattered upstairs. Not much hiking close by, you will need to drive to get to trails--bring a map! There are a couple of small stores on the mountain, but best to bring everything you want to eat with you. Unfortunately, the neighbor has a kennel of dogs (hunting dogs) that bark. The weekend we stayed the first night they only barked for about an hour, but the next night they barked for several hours (or so it seemed). It was very distressing to me and to my dog--we had to go inside and close up the doors to not hear the dogs. It totally ruined my vacation--but I am extremely sensitive to dog barking. (plus I could only imagine the conditions the dogs were kept in.....which was upsetting to me) Richard was very nice, dropping off wood for a fire for us and then starting the fire! Great place if it wasn't for the neighbor's dogs!

    Arlene2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Richard was amazing. He welcomed us and let us know about the cabin and local attractions. We loved his property: the tire swing, all the porches and rocking chairs and hammock right off the upstairs bedroom. We also thoroughly enjoyed Crabtree Falls, and all that Skyline Drive has to offer. Be sure to stop at the exhibits! Safari Drive Through Zoo in Natural Bridge, Tubing at Twin River Outfitters in Buchanan are awesome trips as well. Be sure to check out the swinging bridge in Buchanan ;-)

  • A lovely, well-equipped cabin in a private space about an hour from Charlottesville, this spacious cabin offers the perfect chance to get away from the hubbub of the city. A special place to bond with friends and family as you're almost cut off from the world with no wifi and lots of fun recipes to cook together. Extremely clean cabin and Richard was a very warm host, giving us some wonderful culinary tips too :)

    Hemal2016-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • Rock-N-Creek Cabin was a weekend away that we will never forget. Richard is a great host, made some of the best recommendations for wine and beer tasting, and his attention to detail with the cabin was perfect. We would recommend to everyone looking for a peaceful quiet weekend, and without a doubt we will be back! Unplug from work and enjoy the quiet beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and come home every night to relax inside the beautiful cabin. I cannot recommend enough!

Welcome to our cottage in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains. You are sure to enjoy our nicely furnished house, appropriate for a couples weekend getaway, or a family vacation. Hiking, skiing, antiquing, and wineries and breweries close by!
Our cottage is comfortably furnished with enough room for a family, but cozy enough for a couples get away. Explore the wonderful mountains and other local highlights, but save some time to relax on the back or front porch, cook a great meal in our well appointed kitchen, or read a good book in the library!
Massies Mill is a small community located near Crabtree Falls. Our cottage is located on a horseshoe shaped road, with a mixture of farms, homes and rolling hills and valleys. The setting can be described as rural. Our place sits on 2 acres, which leaves you lots of private space.
  • We loved the house. Very clean and cozy. The small touches are what make the difference. Having some home baked biscuits waiting for us was very welcoming.

  • Karin went above and beyond our expectations! From the beginning, she was communicative and helpful. We were visiting Virginia to attend our daughter's college graduation. Karin left a gift for our daughter! The cottage was decorated so cute and it was incredibly comfortable. Our 28 year old daughter had her own get away upstairs. It was as though she was staying in a beautiful treehouse! Karin made sure that the kitchen was well equipped. We were at home. I would definitely stay here again.

  • This is a delightful cottage, with great views, well appointed and has everything you need. We would absolutely stay here again!

    Lisa2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • Absolute perfection! From the first contact for booking, to the final day of our trip, Karin was the perfect host! We had a small group of ladies that came up for a bachelorette weekend. She left us little baked treats, fresh herbs, and fresh fruit. Not to mention the bottle of champagne dressed in bridal attire with a sweet congratulatory card for the bride. Also, the house was stunning. Extremely clean and accommodating with a beautiful view. I would HIGHLY recommend this Karin and her beautiful home for your next stay.

  • Karen welcomed us with delicious pumpkin bread and a beautiful, well-appointed cottage. Everything was better than described. We had a wonderful stay!

    Georgia2016-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage was everything we hoped it would be and so much more. The house is quaint and decorated in the most adorable way with features that make you feel at home right away. There was a card from Karin and Brad, a basket of extra treats, and a delicious homemade carrot oatmeal cake waiting for us upon check in. The binder provided to us was full of info about the cottage and things to see in the area. The location was simply breathtaking and it was less than ten miles from Crabtree Falls! We loved every minute of this stay and will definitely be back!

750 sq. ft. with 1 bedrm & 1 sleeping loft on isolated road .7 mile from Blue Ridge Parkway. Four miles from Wintergreen Resort entrance (a few more miles if Parkway closed due to ice.) We "unplug" here. A telephone, but no cell/Internet/TV. Great hiking, biking near house. All taxes/fees are included in the price.
This is our 4 year-old vacation cottage. It is on 5 acres just outside the Jefferson National Forest near the Blue Ridge Parkway on an isolated gravel-dirt road. The cottage has high ceilings and is sun-filled and spacious for 4 people. The bathroom has a bath/shower combination. There are two twin beds in the sleeping loft and one full bed in the bedroom. A 5th person could sleep on the couch or take the extra mattress off the full bed and put it on the floor in the living room. Extra sheets and towels are available in the drawers under both sides of the bed (downstairs) or in the dresser in the loft. There are huge windows in the downstairs bedroom so if you are light-sensitive, you may want to bring a sleeping mask.
There are a couple of other cottages nearby, but only a few full-time residents in Chicken Hollow. A walk through our woods will reveal a tree house, swings, hammock, picnic table, swinging chairs and a lovely creek near the bottom edge of the property. Guests are welcome to use these at their own risk. The cottage is only 4 mountainous miles from the entrance to Wintergreen Resort's seasonal skiing and golfing (another 3 miles up the mountain to get to activities). It is about 4 miles from beautiful Sherando Lake where we often swim and hike. There is a nearby wilderness area in the Jefferson National Forest, the Appalachian Trail, and plenty of places to hike, road bike and mountain bike. Nelson county is becoming well known for its micro-breweries, wineries and even a cidery. These are about ten miles away.
  • This is our second stay at this beautiful cottage. This time we brought our two young boys, who thoroughly enjoyed their stay. We kept busy with family time, hiking nearby trails, made a trip to Colonial Williamsburg attractions, and we made sure to visit our favorite brewery, Devil's Backbone. We were tipped off to hike the Crabtree Falls trail, which was a short drive away. Though definitely not a novice trail, it afforded us awesome views hiking up the mountain along a large waterfall. This was a highlight of our trip.

  • Our weekend at the Cabin was wonderful. We arrived to have the owner greet us with the fire in the wood stove already burning & a warm cozy cabin. Everything was awesome from the place itself, location, to the 'extended stay' we had due to the snow we had on Valentines evening, which prevented us from leaving the following morning. Christine was more than accommodating, allowing us to stay an extra night & even offering up extra food they had left in the fridge for us to eat if needed. The kids had a great time at the cabin & playing in the snow! We enjoyed the peace & quiet & time without electronics to disconnect & unplug from the real world. We are definitely planning on returning there in the future. Wonderful place. Fabulous location.

  • Christine's cottage was beautiful! The sun pours in during the day; the stars are beautiful outside and through the skylights at night! It's a little difficult to find if you arrive in the dark, but a great place to spend a weekend. We particularly enjoyed all of the swings! Christine was a great host, she responded to our questions immediately.

  • As always, had a great time and excellent hospitality.

    Andrew2016-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • I highly recommend the property and the property owners -- both first rate. The place was very clean, like new, well laid out, secluded, and all that is stated on the ad. Christine was great to work with -- made it very quick and easy. No unnecessary paperwork, deposits, regulations -- just pay up, show up, have fun. We will be back.

  • We had a wonderful weekend in this quiet setting and thoughtfully designed cottage. We hiked, biked, relaxed in the tree house and ate breakfast on the patio. The house was just as described and the setting in the woods is magical. Christine was very helpful and we look forward to returning again soon!

    Janet2016-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is the perfect little cabin in its own magical little forest. You can explore around the house and you'll find the perfect hammock, the cutest tree house (awesome place to stop and read your book) and a lovely stream at the bottom of the hill. The house is also conveniently located close to Wintergreen, the breweries on 151, the best farmer's market in Nellysford, Crabtree Falls, Sherando Lake for some awesome day trips and you an you can retreat to your own private forest.

  • My husband, two year old son and I had a magical time at Christine's place. The pictures do not do it justice! The cottage may be small but it has more than the basics. The cottage is modern and nice; the kitchen is fully equipped with a nice stove, microwave and coffee maker; there are several outdoor areas to hang out around the house: front porch, side deck, side patio with chairs, and back deck with a gas grill. The best part about the property was that it was made to explore. There is a path that starts with a really fun swing called a swurfer, a hammock area, a tree house with hanging chairs (with drink holders!) and my favorite, the creek. There is a small bridge over the creek and it has been dammed up in a couple of spots for wading and it is safe for even small children. There is a bench and another hanging chair. We had to have our son sleep in the room with us because leaving in the loft would have been too loud for him. Additionally, there are no curtains or blinds in the bedroom--we didn't mind this but I can see this being a problem for others. We visited mid-June and despite there being no AC, we were comfortable and the ceiling fans kept things cool. The area around the house is beautiful and secluded. We forgot that we didn't have access to the internet or cable TV. Our cellphones had service (ATT) but we didn't want it. The scenery made us forget about all of our stresses and really enjoy our time together. We didn't want to leave. My husband remarked that this trip was "perfect."

  • If you are traveling with children or looking to stay in the country for a few days, this property might work for you. The scenery is lovely, the pool looked nice, and the animals( horses, donkeys, a goat and a dog) were great. There is a lake, which we couldn't find because of missing signage, which has boats to use. However, if you are adults travelers looking for a good night's, this might not be your best bet. The walls are thin, and our neighbors provided constant noise. We stayed in room 23, which is handicapped accessible. We didn't require this, and were unhappy that the sink just came to my mid-thigh, even though I am only 5'5". My husband, who is over 6', couldn't see himself in the mirror. He got a hot shower this AM, although only from mid-chest down. I did not because there was no more hot water. I was told that staff had told the owner about the leaking coil, and that they would tell her again. Breakfast was far from gourmet, as described. The fruit salad was good, as was the homemade biscuits. Everything else --some egg dish with no taste, some tasteless potatoes and milk gravy --was inedible. Most folks only ate the biscuits and fruit. There wasn't any jams or butter put out. Some sausage, bacon or country ham would have improved things greatly. Maybe if the word "gourmet" wasn't used, it would have been better. We were expecting rustic, but for the price, hot water would have been nice.

  • Beautiful grounds. Sitting peacefully by the pond was wonderful, also the pool.

    Atieno2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Being a NY city girl, at first I felt in the middle of nowhere, very quiet place secluded in a sense, it was trivial how to get in the room but we figured it out. my payment through airbnb had not gone through for some reason and Madeline was kind enough to contact me and make sure I was still on my way and to submit my payment again so that airbnb would not give my room away which I really appreciated her communicating with me about it. We didn't get to use the pool however it looked very clean and well kept. breakfast was tasty, staff was friendly and allowed me to pet the horses which I loved. coffee maker was dirty so we couldn't use it to warm up water, decor is simple but comfortable to spend the night, you have a fridge in the room which is nice, the bathroom was spacey and clean, all in all I had a good experience, it is definitely a nice place to clear your mind and petting the horses is great therapy at least it was for me. You will be just an hour and 15 minutes away from Luray caverns and about 30 minutes from Grand caverns which is great.

  • Deanie was out of town but stayed in contact and Chris showed us around the place and to our room. We stayed one night for a race in the morning. There were a lot of things to do on the massive farm itself, with a wonderful German restaurant a mile away and downtown Staunton about 15 miles away. Breakfast was homemade buffet style and absolutely delightful.

  • Despite the dreary weather, our short time in Penmerryl Farm was great. The beds were nice and comfy after a long day of driving, and the room was clean and had everything we needed. Gammon's breakfast was amazing. She was also a great conversation and told us all about the horses on the property, which are very friendly and happy to take photos with you! We just wish the weather was a little better so we could've enjoyed the other facilities.

  • Booking was fast and simple! We arrived late but Emily was there to show us to our room. The property is very nice, a little dated, but I liked the "retro" feel! We enjoyed a morning walk around the lake and pastures after our fabulous breakfast! One of the staff members showed us around the barns and riding arenas - which are very nice! I'd love to plan another visit with horses in tow!

  • Deanie and Ken: We had a great stay with you! Thank you for being great hosts and making wonderful breakfasts for us. It was nice meeting your daughters as well. Aviana enjoyed everything, the horses, dogs, pool and especially the cat! She talked about them for the rest of our trip. If we are ever out that way again, we will definitely stop by. Thanks again and hope you are enjoying the CD. -Savannah, Bart and Aviana

  • Penmerryl and Deanie are absolutely lovely! Deanie, her friendly pups, and home baked cookies warmly greeted us upon our late (URL HIDDEN) husband and I enjoyed their property, particularly watching the horses and spotting an eagle on the lake! The property and our room were quite clean. We were spoiled with a delicious breakfast and great conversation. Penmerryl is a great retreat and we highly recommend it.

  • My wife and I love to travel. We love it because we get to see amazing places and experience the way that different people live all over the world. You will rarely find us in the same place twice as this incredible planet has so much to offer. So it was a rare pleasure for us to be planning our second trip to Penmerry farms while still enjoying our first. We literally could not wait to come back. Not only is Deanie a first class hostess, more importantly, she's just a great lady. Well read, well spoken, well traveled and a top notch cook. If you find time between the charming rooms, the legendary breakfast potatoes, the pool, the hot tub, the fire pit, the game room, the lake and the hiking trails, I highly recommend sharing a cup of coffee (or two) with the lady who runs the show. That alone, kids, is worth the price of admission.

  • Gammon and Jennifer were great. Everyone was really friendly and the drive to Greenville is amazing. Breakfast was delicious and super personable. The room was perfectly suitable, and I thoroughly enjoyed relaxing on the dock by the lake. The hot tub wasn't working, unfortunately, and it would have been nice to know that up front. I had a great time at Penmeryll, thanks!

  • We stayed in room 24, as mentioned in the description if you need wi-fi choose the other cabins. I already had my wife with me so I was set lol ;) My wife and I really enjoyed our stay here. We came with a friend and we sat out till late playing the guitar and telling the story of the tell tale heart by Poe in front of a fire pit. The wood was graciously provided and started as well! The beds were comfortable and the shower had good pressure. The food was delicious, I think the guys name was Chris. He made the bacon with brown sugar, it was sooooo good. While you're staying here you should check out edelweiss, a German restaurant near by with good food and great company. Overall I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an idyllic place to get away to that is in between natural bridge and skyline drive.

Private campsite (tent is not provided for you; you must bring your own camping gear, including a rain guard) in a beautiful county with a country setting. Shared bathroom & other outdoor living space. This is one of three campsite listings I have for my property. If one is booked and you are interested in staying, please check out the other two listings here - https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19176500 & https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19717058.
With camping outside, you get to see one of the prettiest views I've ever seen - the majestic mountain ridges during the day and the clear sky full of stars at night. My hope is that you have access to whatever it is you may need to make your visit as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
The neighborhood may seem boring or sparse to city folks, but Nelson & Amherst County have so much to offer to those adventurous types. My house is located only minutes from the George Washington National Forest and there are many places for walking, running, biking, fishing, swimming, and hiking (the Appalachian Trail runs through the county, too) in the area. Depending on which location you get off the Blue Ridge Parkway, we're about 30 minutes from there. There are also breweries, cideries, wineries, and distilleries not too far away on route 151, or the Brew Ridge Trail as us locals call it. Wintergreen Resort is also close by for those who love to ski and/or snowboard. If live music from local artists is your thing, there's plenty of that to go around, too, in the smallest of coffee shops to bigger venues. This area is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been and I'd suggest everyone visit at least once in their lives. The people are kind and the mountains, even kinder.

  • We had parent's weekend at both W&L and JMU. This was a perfect location. Only about 20 min. to W&L. Jean was lovely and the apartment was perfect. I would and have recommended this to my friends.

    Teresa2016-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location in an idyllic setting. Great base for exploring VA wine country and enjoying the peaceful setting Jean offers. Thoughtful extras like some bottled water in the fridge and all the coffee fixins you could need made this homey spot feel more lovely. It is an older farmhouse so there are the expected creaks and squeaks, but any problem with that melts away when you see the view from the balcony.

    Nicole2017-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Jean made use feel very welcome, and the room was just what we were hoping for. I loved the sunroom! Even though it was a rainy weekend, the view from the sunroom was such a relaxing place for breakfast, and we enjoyed ending our day sitting out there and playing the Battleship game that was on the bookshelf. :) We also loved that there was a kitchen complete with a little stove -- no need for us to go out to dinner after a long drive because we were able to make our own. The free internet was nice too. The room was very comfortable as well. We noticed that the walls are a little on the thin side -- one night we could hear what sounded like people in the next room over -- but it wasn't anything that caused us to lose sleep. Jean was great about making sure that we had everything we needed, even asking us what temperature we liked to sleep in and offering to turn the house heat up for us. She very much respected our privacy as well; after check in we didn't see her again, but I knew that she would be available for anything we needed. Perfect. A great experience overall. The apartment was relaxing and homey, and I would definitely stay there again if we were in the area.

  • The location in Spottswood was serene, secluded, and absolutely perfect for a quiet weekend. The private suite was so accommodating and had a great view overlooking nature, animals, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Jean and Frank provided plenty of direction as well as recommendations for the surrounding area. We enjoyed walking the property and enjoying the views while being a short drive from Lexington and Staunton. We were able to visit the Natural Bridge, Washington & Lee/VMI, and Devil's Backbone Brewery over the 2 day stay. We'd highly recommend staying here for some quality down time!

  • Jean welcomed us when we arrived and explained how everything worked. The suite was exactly as described and we especially enjoyed the sun room. We were invited to pick some blueberries which we enjoyed both the picking and the eating. The two duck eggs Jean shared with us were enough for a delicious large omelet.

    Liz2015-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Jean was a very gracious host and communicated with us before our arrival. We absolutely loved the apartment in her beautiful farmhouse. My husband and I were attending the Nature Camp reunion in Vesuvius, Virginia and chose not to camp in a tent or split up and sleep separately in the male and female bunkhouses. It was only a twelve minute drive from Spottswood to Nature Camp. We were so happy to return to the Blueberry Hill Farm every evening and we can't wait to return. She and her husband thought of EVERYTHING! She also provided dozens of area brochures and maps and lists of recommended restaurants and sights. Her kitty even welcomed us each morning!

  • Stayed with 6 ladies for 3 days, 2 nights while touring the wineries and breweries in the area. Fantastic location 5 minutes from Devils Backbone and Bold Rock and a 15 minute drive from Humpback Rocks trail. Like the other reviews, the pictures don't do this place justice. It's awesome! All living areas are large and the place was very clean. The kitchen is big and well appointed with everything you'd need. There are many bed arrangements and they seemed to be set up just to fit our needs. Check in and out was the simplest I've ever experienced with Airbnb and I really appreciated Teds flexibility with our schedule! The only downfall is there is no service at the cabin so make sure you know where you are going and have confirmed plans before you arrive! Recommend 100%!

  • I had a great, low-key bachelor party at the Cozy Wintergreen Cottage. We visited Blue Mountain and Devil's Backbone breweries, and did the nearby White Rock Falls hike off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The lack of WiFi and cell service at the house complicates some things -- like ordering an Uber if you want to visit more than one brewery or cidery -- it also contributed to the relaxing, off-the-grid quality of the trip. The backyard chairs and overgrown fire pit could have used a little love, but we still enjoyed using it one night. And as other reviewers have noted, the house is clean, and the kitchen is well-appointed. Ted was helpful, and we appreciated the flexible check-in and check-out times.

  • Don't be fooled by the pictures! This house is amazing! It's quiet, and in a great location! Close to wintergreen resort, and close to many wineries and Devils Backbone. The firepit was our hangout all night, and not having signal was a great way to get away! We will be spending another weekend here in a few months, we all can't wait!

  • This place is really awesome: perfect for families and groups of friends, super close to blue ridge parkway. Ted is a fantastic host!

    Marco2017-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this peaceful and quiet cottage. Ted was very helpful with our first Airbnb experience.

    Michael2016-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • As other guests have stated in their reviews, those photos don't do this place justice! This was a lovely cottage home from the quaint front porch to the hardwood floors and the open shelving in the kitchen. Everything was very clean, the kitchen was well stocked, and it was the perfect getaway for my husband and I and our other friends. The proximity to breweries and wineries is unrivaled, considering the great price as well! It's a peaceful neighborhood with no internet service, but that only allowed for us to have longer fireside chats :) Ted was very responsive and friendly when we had questions as well. We will surely return for another weakened away!

  • Our stay at the Fenton Inn is an awesome unforgettable experience. The hosts were super nice and friendly. We loved the quality of everything. They've put a lot of effort to make every detail perfect. The bed was also extremely comfy. Imagine waking up in a comfy bed with the smell of hot pancake, in the beautiful mountains. It's just awesome.

  • This B&B is the most beautiful, unique, fabulous place. The pictures don't do it justice. Everything has been hand built by the owner over the last four years. The wood working and details were unbelievable. It was very convenient to tour Charlottesville, Monticello, etc

Our creek-side cabin, tucked in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, is minutes from the Appalachian Trail, breweries, wineries, Skyline Drive, Bold Rock, Pharsalia & Crabtree Falls. Enjoy the fun then relax by Campbell's Creek & enjoy the tranquility.
Our cabin seems rustic, full of rough wood and handmade details that our father included when he built it in the 80s. But while seemingly rustic, it is warm, comfy, and charming. The downstairs has an ample living space with a living room (with working fireplace), dining room (seats 6 comfortably), bar area, kitchen, and one and a half baths. The full bath has a claw foot tub along with a shower. Adding to the cabin’s allure are two large outdoor porches. The back porch looks down on Campbell's Creek. It has 3 rocking chairs -- offering the perfect opportunity to surrender to nature and be lulled by the sounds of the Creek. The front porch includes a large retro cooler, benches, and a picnic table. The upstairs has two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a queen size bed while the adjoining bedroom has two twin beds. The upstairs greatest charm is each bedrooms' lovely balcony overlooking the forest. Here you can gaze at the stars and the moon as they play hide-n-seek among the trees. The upstairs also has a half bath. Among our cabin's many unique features is the wooden bridge our father built to cross Campbell's Creek. While the upstairs accommodates 4 people, there is a pull out couch downstairs that fits two small children or one adult. There is also ample room downstairs to fit an air bed.
Tucked between Campbell’s Creek, Washington National Forest, and Jefferson National Forest, our cabin is ready for you to build wonderful memories. Only minutes away from the Appalachian Trail, historic Pharsalia, the Wintergreen Skii Resort, Crabtree Falls, Montebello’s fish hatchery, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Nelson 151’s fun breweries and wineries, our cabin offers you a respite from the hustle and bustle. At Campbell's Creek, you are never too far from adventure, exploration, history, and discovery. http://blog.virginia.org/2014/05/waterfall-trails-summer/
  • It is a really beautiful wood cabin with lovely creeks running through on the back of the cabin. You could hear the whisper of the forest and the sound of the nature. The house owner is very thoughtful preparing us coffee and all the necessary cook wares and tools. We feel relaxed at home and a true escape from the urban life. I would highly recommend this place if you want to experience a unique trip to the wilderness.

  • the house was beautiful, even more so than in the pictures, and it was so quiet and peaceful up there. melanie was a wonderful host--she left us coffee and bagels, the house was in beautiful shape, and it's clear that she takes great care in making it comfortable. we loved drinking coffee on the porch and reading in front of the fire. a perfect place to escape.

    Tania2014-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Melanie was at the cabin to greet us and give us a quick tour. She was very quick to respond to questions we had up to the day of our arrival. The cabin is absolutely amazing. There is a spot for a fire outside and the fire place inside was great! Nothing is quite like the sound of the stream out back, however. It was so nice to wake up with a cup of coffee and just relax on the porch. The cabin was very close to some amazing lookouts and not too far from some great wineries. We can't wait to come back!

    Christopher2015-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I rented this cabin to celebrate my wife and my 5 year wedding anniversary. Before renting it we asked Melanie several questions to ensure it was the right fit. The most important question was about whether or not the place was safe for a toddler (our daughter). While we certainly understand that no place is ever completely child proof, we know that some places are not suitable for really young children. Melanie e-mailed back assuring us that it was safe. Unfortunately, this turned out to be completely false. There were many dangerous features in this house, which had we known ahead of time, we just would not have booked the reservation. The most egregious example of unsafe conditions was the fact that the second bedroom (where my child would stay) had NO door. It immediately led onto the stairs--no landing, no hallway--with no way to stop my child at night from leaving her room. (I would think that this would be an issue for adults staying who were interested in privacy.) Other safety issues included a big drop off near the step leading off the deck and extra steep stairs in the house. In addition, the second bedroom was so small that you could not close the bathroom door that connected to the room unless you moved the bed. Other concerns included NO door knobs or latches on the bathroom downstairs and a misrepresentation of the creek on the property. Melanie told us that we could "fish of the deck". I was baffled to see that there were no fish in that part of the creek. To make matters worse, it was extremely hot in the cabin. (We rented at the end of July so this would not be an issue for those staying in the winter.) We knew that place did not have air conditioning and asked if this was an issue before renting. Melanie once again assured us it was not. I am giving this a one star because of the misinformation provided in the e-mail exchange before we renting the cabin. It was not safe for our daughter, there were no fish in that part of the creek and it was extremely hot in the cabin. I've never given such a poor review in my life, but the place was so bad (i.e. dangerous for our daughter and hot) that we decided to leave 45 minutes after arriving. This was our one vacation and we did not want to be miserable. I called Melanie before leaving to let her know and to try and get a refund. She offered to charge us only for one night ($250). I thought we deserved a full refund, but that was the only choice given to us. Despite this, Melanie is still trying to charge us $400 ($250 + Airbnb fees + cleaning fee). This is just another example of how we've been misled. The previous 5-star ratings are inexplicable, even traveling without children.

  • The house and setting were fantastic, and Melanie made everything easy. We stayed over New Year's Eve and with a fire in the fireplace and the electric heaters the house was cozy and nice. The beds are very comfortable and the kitchen is perfectly stocked. The setting could not be more picturesque- the babbling brook outside was even more beautiful than in the photos. Highly recommend!

    Susan2015-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • This place is the true definition of a cabin. It is very secluded, made entirely of wood, and all you hear is the sound of the creek. No tv, no internet, and being in this place you wouldn't want it any other way. It's a great place to disconnect. The place was spotless when we arrived and had everything we needed for the weekend. While staying here we hiked Crabtree Falls and had lunch/beer at Devils backbone brewery, both were only about 25 min from the cabin. We would highly recommend this place to others. We will definitely be back in the future! Thanks again Melanie!!

  • Melanie was a terrific host - she greeted us upon our arrival and showed us the ins and outs of the cabin. The description of the cabin is accurate - and (URL HIDDEN) a lovely lovely little spot. We hope to be back again soon!

  • Great place, kids loved the pool. Host was excellent. Close to both the falls and spy rock. Gorgeous property, so nice falling asleep listening to the river just steps away.

  • This place has almost everything. Pool, hot tub, ample space, great kitchen, nice bathrooms, complete privacy. Nicely decorated as well. Downsides: Not enough pans in the kitchen, could not find a can opener or a cutting board. I hope the owner stops by Ikea (or better) to buy some extra general kitchen stuff. Internet is good enough for Netflix and e-mail. Would very highly recommend it.
