“So, where to go in this city when you want to have a few pulques (or some great local beers), blow off some steam with friends, and dance alongside Mexico's young crowd? You come here. All worries that accompany international travel can be forgotten with one night in this maze of a bar/restaurant (it has 3 levels), and most of the frequenters of Pulqueria Insurgentes come for the killer DJ's atmosphere of high energy. Friday and Saturday evenings are when it's most electric, so plan accordingly. Insurgentes Sur 226, Roma Nte., 06700 Ciudad de México, CDMX”

“Inspired by the trend for speakeasy bars in NYC, Jules Basement jumped on the bandwagon and brought the concept to Mexico in 2012. And like its NYC predecessors, there are rules here: You must make a reservation in advance, you must enter through an industrial refrigerator door at the back of a taqueria, and once inside the striking, leather-clad, subterranean bar there are no Jägermeisters, bad beers, or Red Bull-based drinks allowed. All of this makes for a pretty civilized evening enjoying both classic cocktails like Manhattans and Martinis and some pretty amazing riffs on these, like the mezcal laced Campari cocktail. “For mezcal, you can try La Cladestina . Almost opposite the Parque España. Low-lit, funky and fun with beer and mezcal and… that’s it! Beer and mezcal! But so many choices of mezcal. Be warned, mezcal can creep up on you. A few and you think you’re fine. A few more, and your friends are putting you in a taxi and the next day, you’ll never want to drink again. So treat with care. ”

“Rooftop cafe and decent restaurant with STUNNING views of the ruins of the great pyramid of Tenochtitlán. When this Aztec capital was the biggest most developed city in the world putting Paris to shame! ”

“While you might find it difficult to gain access in the first place, given that it has a pretty strict door policy, putting in the effort to get into Leonor is certainly recommended. Located in the Condesa district, Roma’s arguably classier older brother, you can find anything from deep house music to indie tracks playing here depending on the DJ of the evening. It may be small, but it’s a popular club of choice with the Mexico City-ites in the know.”
