  • Amazing home in a wonderful surrounding. We were given plenty of hints what to do. As Joanne & Rick couldn't make it to our arrival they personally showed up later to make sure every thing is perfect. Very lovely and a beautiful home. We went to church across the street on Sunday and had a very warm welcome as well.

  • A charming house, conveniently located, with welcoming and friendly hosts. Exactly what we needed for our weekend.

  • Everything described in the listing was perfect and then some. The house was clean, bright and fresh smelling. The neighborhood was nice. And Joanne and Rick were very kind and accommodating. It was a great stay! Thanks so much!

  • My family and I had a great stay in Prescott at Joanne & Rick's place. Everything is as depicted on their page - the home was very cozy, the rooms were clean and the house is very nicely located in town close to the shoreline, parks and restaurants. Joanne was very responsive and helpful in suggesting things to do and places to see, eat, etc. We were all very comfortable there and could easily have stayed longer. We usually skip over the whole area by taking the boring and only very slightly quicker 401. Our decision to stay at Joanne's was based on little more than wanting to break up a long drive and the nice photos of the house. We were glad we did. The stretch of Highway 2 between Kingston and Cornwall is gorgeous riverside driving and Prescott was a great home base. The locals were very friendly and it was a good and very affordable place to chill out with the family. I'd recommend their place to anyone looking to get away from the bustle of Toronto/Montreal/Ottawa or just looking to take it easy.

  • It was a short planning for a long weekend and Joanne and Rick responded to my inquiries immediately, helping my finalized my trip in the shortest time possible. They were very accommodating on my request . Joanne welcomed us and made us felt at home, giving us clear instructions and tips to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The house is clean and orderly, well renovated but the old charm remains. It is tastefully decorated. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. You can find stuff you need in the town as stores and restaurants are near to a point of walking distance. Prescott is a good base for us as it is closed to the boat tours and Ottawa. Staying in Joanne and Rick's property made my first airbnb experience a pleasant one but most of all made our trip an awesome experience.

    Marilou 2016-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Joanne & Rick's was the perfect little home base for the two of us visiting the area for a family reunion. Nice little welcome package with map, walking tour info, day trip itineraries, recommendations for food etc. We took their advice and picked up fresh pastries and coffee one morning from Katrina's, and we were not disappointed!

    Stephanie2017-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Property was very clean and comfortable. Just as advertised. I would recommend to family and friends and definitely stay there again.

    Robin2016-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was just wonderful. A real home away from home. It was very clean and cozy and very well equipped - contained just about everything you need for a short or a long stay. I would definitely recommend it to my friends and everyone else.

A one of a kind, quiet and cosy room only half a block from the charming shops of "The Prettiest Town in Canada". A private , keyless entry and kitchenette with fridge and microwave will allow you to come and go freely and enjoy a drink on the peaceful country porch.
This 1832 house, in the heart of beautiful Merrickville, is a delightful mixture of old and new. Completely renovated in the past year, the decor is whimsical, artistic and practical. A keyless entry means that you can come and go as you like. A very comfortable queen bed, lots of good pillows and a duvet, large soft Turkish towels, air conditioning, blackout blinds, mirrors, a hairdryer and make up/laptop table plus books and reading lights on both sides of the bed all ensure a restful sleep and a hassle free, enjoyable stay. In case of power failure there is a nightlight /flashlight to help you find your way. The two guest rooms on the second floor share the kitchenette, with a fridge, microwave and kettle. Complimentary tea and coffee ( sorry no room for a Keurig) as well as small healthy snacks will ease your hunger pangs at night and get you going in the morning. There are lots of magazines to read while you wait for your kettle to boil! The two bathrooms are also shared, one is a powder room - on the main floor, the other includes a beautiful new glass shower, extra towels and lots of light and mirrors. Our water is filtered to remove chlorine and bacteria. Grooming products are available in case you've forgotten something! A delightful covered porch is available to for you to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet whilst having a drink, chatting, reading or even doing absolutely nothing! Smoking is permitted on the porch.
Merrickville is truly a beautiful town! One of the earliest settled and best preserved villages in Eastern Ontario, it is home to many interesting one-of-a-kind shops and tasty restaurants housed in the historic stone and brick buildings that line St Lawrence Street. A short stroll down St. Lawrence Street and you arrive at the Rideau River and the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is a beautifully maintained green space with picnic tables, bbq's and shady trees, from which you can watch the boats moving through the locks, perhaps while enjoying an ice cream cone! If you would like to swim there is a sweet little sandy beach with swings just behind the the prettiest library in Canada and we will also share some of our other favourite swimming spots! Canoes and kayaks can be rented in town if you would like to explore the bird sanctuary that is nearby or just float gently for an hour or two. There are beautiful groomed hiking trails on the edge of town and lots of country roads to bike. Whether you are coming to shop or sight-see, to hike or bike or to attend one of Merrickville's many festivals and events you'll have a comfy place to lay your head at Mr. Toad's Happy Place # 2!
  • Mark and Susan are friendly, helpful hosts. So close to Main Street. Nice clean room, private keyless entry and sitting porch.

  • Mr. Toad's is my 'go to' spot when visiting Merrickville. Susan and Mark are gracious hosts; they truly take the extra step in making you feel welcome. This will be my 3rd time enjoying Mr. Toad's as a place to 'hang my hat' and look forward to many more.

Private secluded living in the round! Unique cordwood Roundhouse on 7 acres of unspoiled land dedicated as a nature reserve. Ideal for those who want to get away from it all! Sleeps 7 on 1 Queen, 1 Double, 1 Single bed & 2 Futons. Stone fireplace, jacuzzi, cedar gazebo & deck, (seasonal) outdoor swimming pool. World Heritage Victorian village of Merrickville nearby: gift & craft shops, art galleries, cafes, restaurants, horseback riding & Rideau River locks. Ottawa less than 1 hour away.
"Kanien'kehá:ka" is the Mohawk name for "People of the Flint". This Roundhouse is a unique, energy-efficient, round-shaped home using a “stackwall” or “cordwood masonry” construction design. The engineer and builder of this home has made every attempt to “go green” and used many re-cycled & re-purposed items in the construction of many of the interior features, such as the granite stone fireplace, which was constructed from stones found on the property. The kitchen countertops were formed from discarded crushed granite. The built-in ladder to the sun-flooded cupola was constructed from the handrails of a city bus! Much thought to the utilization of space has been given to this home to create a most unique and very functional habitat which never seems too small. Creature Comforts It is all a very open concept & exceptionally airey! The circular cupola ceiling & windows flood the Great Room with tons of sunlight! The decor reflects three themes: Music, the Beach & First Nations' culture. In particular, we are avid Beatles fans, lovers of sea & beach and proud of our Mohawk heritage. Despite the home’s simple design and its relatively small, yet cozy, living space, it does have many “creature comfort” features such as a pinewood floors, wood-burning fireplace, fully-equipped modern kitchen, ceiling fans, indoor jacuzzi, air-conditioner, internet, large-screen TV, DVD player & a super stereo sound system. There is also an above-ground (unheated) swimming pool, new sun deck & cedar gazebo with a propane BBQ.
The house is 2.8 kms south of a paved county road, on a rural, well-maintained gravel road. There are several secluded homes on large wooded lots on the approach. A neighbouring private stable frequently exercises their horses along the road. Occasionally, the signal horn of a passing freight train can be heard cutting through the predominant tranquility of the area.
  • We had a great time at Paul’s place. Walks through “the wilds”revealed treasures rarely seen in nature. We loved the door to nowhere ( or maybe everywhere..),the mailbox and other finds we’ll leave for others to discover. What fun! Although we didn’t see any anticipated meteor showers, sitting outside at night around the bonfire was terrific. We had lots of laughs and even sang a campfire song or two. Off key, of course. And just when we thought we had seen everything inside the house, a new discovery would mean more oohs and aaahs. The whole eclectic and musical vibe steered us to memory lane and an exchange of stories about pretending to be one of the Beatles when we were kids. I was always George, in case you’re wondering, Paul. The roundhouse is an easy drive to Merrickville, where we spent a day poking about the shops, including a browse through The Whistle Stop antique shop, owned by some of Paul’s relatives. Much to see there. If you’re looking for a place that’s not run of the mill, and you enjoy good vibrations, consider Paul’s place. We’re glad we did.

    Patricia2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • The home was beautifully built. The pool had to have been the highlight of our stay. I would recommend other families to come out and stay at the round house.

  • May 19-23, 2017 Beautiful unique home & property. Peaceful get away. I'm extremely sensitive to noise and the train didn't both me at all-far off in the distance. We didn't see a lot of birds or other animals, but we did hear birds. We heard the whip-poor-will for the first time in an extremely long time. It was wonderful to hear. Each evening we listened to them. They are really something else to hear. We slept in the master bedroom and it was very comfortable. The water pressure in both the kitchen and bathroom was good. Paul was great to communicate with. The fireplace was nice to have and we enjoyed reading in front of it all evening. It was a very cool weekend and our entire purpose of the weekend was rest and relaxation. The perfect place for it.

    Cheryl2017-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • Paul is a great guest. You will feel at home here. He's also very respectful of your intimacy bit still makes it clear about how to live respectfully in your house, which sincerely is much appreciated. I am very grateful to have stayed there. Thank you so much!!

    Veronique2017-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place! We felt as if we had stepped into a hands-on museum. Musical history and indigenous culture pieces are abundant. We spent quite some time simply taking it all in. It really is as beautiful as the photos! The Roundhouse information book provided knowledge about the house itself, the local area and the indigenous people; perfect for reading with coffee our first morning. Upon check in Paul and his sister welcomed us and immediately made us feel like this was our place and they were friends showing us around. Paul apologized for the TV only receiving one channel; however there is a well-stocked library, DVD and CD collection which kept us entertained during down time. We were sad that we didn’t get to wander the trails on the property. Due to the recent weather there was a high possibility of ticks carrying Lyme disease. However, the pool and outdoor fire pit were used quite well. The wrapping veranda is perfect for a book and morning coffee. We loved that all the wall switches were labeled! No hunting for which switch turns on which lights or fans. The beds in both bedrooms were quite comfortable. Plenty of soft and fluffy towels in both washrooms as well. The kitchen is well stocked with almost everything I needed to cook for a family of 4. All I had to add was a quick trip to the grocery store which is 15 minutes away. The best review I can give is to say that on our final day during our packing the kids asked if we could come back every year. I’d have to agree with them. The Roundhouse is a hidden gem. You’ll be glad you stayed here!

  • A great place to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. we stayed with our two kids (2 and 5) for 3 nights, and had a wonderful welcome by Paul-Marc in the house. The house is clean, enjoyable with its round shape and with a beautiful garden, and swimming pool. The inside decoration is very entertaining with strong musical footprint which makes it very enjoyable and original. Marc was also very helpful for us after we left, as we forgot one element and he sent it us back to Paris without hesitation! Thanks again Paul Marc.

    Guillaume2017-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • This was our family's first experience booking an Airbnb. It definitely exceeded our expectations and staying in a home is 1,000 times more comfortable than staying in a hotel. The Roundhouse was cozy and just perfect for us. I was expecting it to feel small but it was not. It's surprisingly large and so well laid out. We found it to be quite pleasing. The pool was the perfect size for our two children (10 and 11). We spent a lot of our time just relaxing by the pool. The kids created all kinds of fun games to amuse themselves. They also threw the football around too. It was great to disconnect and reconnect as a family. Paul Marc was very helpful and gracious. He has every light switch labelled and all the instructions readily available. What I was impressed with is he also had tons of information about things we might be interested in about the surrounding area - pamphlets, magazines, restaurant menus. He even set out movies the kids might enjoy as well as the Walmart back to school magazine which I flipped through. My daughter and I watched Mama Mia for the first time and loved it. All in all we fell in love with the Roundhouse and the nature reserve and found it hard to leave. It felt like home. There is a bird on the nature reserve that we heard each day. It makes cewing noise, almost like a dove. We've heard the same bird when we were in Cuba. My husband really loves listening to the bird. We'd love to know what kind of bird it is.

  • The Canadian cabin is for people who love the outdoors but don't want the hassle of putting up a tent. It was clean and had all the tools necessary for a great evening . Ashley delivered coffee and muffins in the morning. Fabulous. A great balance between giving us privacy and being welcoming, friendly and interactive! Beautiful view of the sunset and lovely woodsy location. Enjoyed our time with Ashley and family.

  • Super cute cozy off grid cabin! Nice cabin with cozy futon, table chairs and solar lights. Even some essential camping gear. The outdoor loo was super clean, private and close! Awesome fire pit and deck with plenty of chairs! A hammock, slide, ropes and tire swing too! So serene on the water and loved the use of the pedal boat ( 3 to choose from) and the dock! Beautiful place, lovely time! Thanks Ashley! Amazing job! :)

  • Ashley was very easy to communicate with and she had generously furnished the cabin with everything we could ever want/need for our fun nature retreat with friends. We loved the fire pit and getting out on the water with the free use of the boats. Great view of the sunset while relaxing on the chairs! The cabin itself was very cozy, clean and private. Ashley even let us pitch a tent for a small additional fee, which made all the difference for all of us 5 being together. Our friend's kid loved playing on the play structure, swinging in the hammock and having lots of space in general. We couldn't have asked for more. Thanks for a great stay! It was exactly what we needed as a fun bonding experience.

We found her to be very accommodating and easy to get in touch with. In addition, the food at her tea shop is some of the most delicious and authentic Chinese food that we have had in some time. Thank you Sisi!

  • We had an excellent time! Angelina's loft is beautiful and welcoming. It was very clean and described perfectly. The bed was super comfortable and the loft was very quiet! Everything is tastefully decorated and we loved that some of the art in the loft was done by Angelina herself. She is so talented! We stayed in most of the time we were there but also enjoyed walking around the town a bit and getting a coffee at the Village Bean. Angelina was friendly and generous and we will certainly be back! Thank you so much for making a (much needed) girls' weekend happen for us :)

  • My husband and I along with our daughter and her family. had the pleasure of staying at the Loft Apartment for a week. Angelina and Chris were perfect hosts. They were very warm and hospitable. They were available when we needed them but gave us our privacy. It was also a pleasure to meet their daughter Gabby. The apartment was everything and more than advertised. It is very clean, spacious and comfortable. It is right downtown Merrickville steps away from all the quaint shops so is very convenient.(right beside the most amazing ice cream store!) Thank you so much Angelina and Chris for helping us to have a wonderful week in Merrickville visiting relatives. We can't wait to come back!

You’ll love our place because of the ambiance and the outdoors space. We raise alpacas and produce alpaca products. We have 50 alpacas, 3 llamas, 2 sheep, 3 angora goats, free range chickens and 3 house cats. We have traveled extensively (prior to the alpacas) and enjoy meeting people from around the world.

  • We were visiting Merrickville for our first time. It turns out that that Michael's suite is located exactly where the action takes place. It's walkable distance of everything: restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream bar, park... Take note that after 5pm, everything closes, except restaurants, which makes it a very quiet place at night. The suite is impeccable! You will find everything you need for a very comfortable stay. We sure will book our next stay in Merrickville with Michael again!

6 acre farm is closed for the season. Thank you all who came and enjoyed. For next year there will be even more off grid joy amongst the field and forests. Updates to all 3 tiny home buildings: Washroom, great room/kitchen, and bedroom are in progress. A dock will be added to improve small river access. The "Rustic in appearance" will be ever so slightly less so! Still with full kitchen, TV, wifi, dishwasher, washroom, hot shower, comfy bedroom. Peace and happiness. Creek
Ask Kelvin (aka Creek) for a tour of the property. Do some "wild harvest." Go kayaking. Paddle from McKenny's bridge downstream through a wilderness untouched by man (2-2.5 hrs depending on how long you dally)! Finish back home at the camp. Or start from the property for short or longer trips. The creek is "beautiful." Two large decks, many outdoor chairs and tables, a bbq, fire circle. There is everything here that you need for a really intimate and lovely time in nature. Hang out on the hammocks. Watch birds. Feel free to putter in my garden. All weeding accepted! The property has wifi with enough bandwidth to watch movies on the tv at night. The solar system is very robust. A/C if you need it. Dishwasher. Microwave. Great proximity to nature of course; historic Merrickville, the arts and restaurant mecca, is 15 minutes away. You're an hour from Ottawa with museums, restaurants, culture. And 1/2 hr from the bridge to the US. Brockville is 40 minutes. Less than 15 minutes also brings you to a launching ramp to the Rideau River with its many parks, fishing, swimming, boating etc. The best times: Spring: offers the best of spring. Stuff coming alive. No bugs until mid-may. The best kayak/canoe opportunities (2 kayaks provided). Best for active folks or those looking to get some writing done. Lots of birds. Early summer: yup. Bugs can be a nuisance. But massive numbers of birds are showing up. And the area around the camp is usually pretty bug free. Mostly thanks to the birds in pre-nest mode and the squadrons of dragonflies. Ideal time for lovers and bird watchers. The apple tree will be in blossom over the bedroom door. Makes a nice entrance to the day. Summer: This is the best time for super chill relaxation. The bugs are usually gone by Canada Day. The sun is trapped between the tree lines. The grasses will be up over 2m high. The birds taper back a bit as the bobolinks head south with their new families. If you're a painter the gardens are in full bloom. Lots of great vistas and moments. Fall: The fall migration means this is the best time for birders. Spring is good. But the fall is crazy. Huge flocks of ducks and geese will perform aerial acrobatics. Many many many species flock through the fields, treelines and forests. From Trumpeter swans to more sparrows than you can count. Yes. There are some super rare ones. Maybe even nesting spring/summer. Shhhh. Winter: I use the camp 4 seasons and normally would open up for winter visitors. Week long visits only. Its a beautiful time for contemplation and creativity. Something wonderful about pondering by the crackling fire. Wood stove baking cornbread. Snowblowing the lane and shoveling included! smile. However this year I am renovating. Next year perhaps.
This is a rural area. Within a kilometer are five farms. There is easy access to Ferguson Forest with its many hiking, biking and motor sport trails. Merrickville is very close with art galleries, restaurants and a surprisingly good beach.
  • We stayed here for two nights, and although it is not for everyone, for us it was perfect.. If you like camping, being outdoors, privacy and peace and quiet, you'll love this place..

    Zinzi2017-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our weekend stay. Kelvin was a great host. We loved how private and beautiful the property was. It was a really fun and relaxing off-grid adventure, while still having many modern amenities. Going out for a little kayak, watching all the birds, and sitting under the canopy of stars were all highlights. Already looking forward to our next visit!

    Jim2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Kelvin's place is in a beautiful and quiet spot. It was a lovely place to slow down for a few days. It is great to have access to kayaks to spend time on the river that the property abuts. When Kelvin says aspects are rustic, he means it; those who tend to camp while on vacation will feel more at home than hotel people. All the better for us, there wasn't a lot going on locally, but be sure to check out Merrickville for a cup of coffee and lunch if you stay.

    Ben2017-04-30T00:00:00Z

  • We thoroughly enjoyed being off the grid and found that Kelvin's place was perfect for it. The property has been cleared enough to keep the bugs at bay. The home consists of three tiny buildings - one was the bathroom, another the kitchen and living space with decking which connected to the sleeping cabin. It is a work in progress and a labour of love for Kelvin. We found that Kelvin provided everything we needed to survive quite nicely for three nights. Lots of drinking water, a freshly made up bed, plenty of towels, hot water in the bathroom and a well equipped kitchen.

On a quiet side street, half a block from Merrickville's beautiful and historic downtown, enjoy small town Ontario at it's best! After a good night's sleep on the very comfy bed and perhaps a coffee on the quaint porch, you'll be ready to explore "Canada's Prettiest Town"!
This 1832 house is a delightful mixture of old and new. Completely renovated in the past year, the decor is whimsical, artistic and practical. A keyless entry means that you can come and go as you please! A very comfortable double bed, lots of good pillows and a duvet, large soft Turkish towels, air conditioning, blackout blinds, mirrors, a hairdryer and make up/ laptop table plus books and reading lights on both sides of the bed all ensure a restful sleep and a hassle free, enjoyable stay. In case of power failure there is a nightlight /flashlight to help you find your way. There are two guest rooms on the second floor and they share the kitchenette, with a fridge, microwave and kettle. Complimentary tea and Starbucks coffee ( sorry - no room for a Keurig) as well as small snacks will ease your hunger pangs at night and get you going in the morning.
One of the best preserved Eastern Ontario towns, it is home to many interesting one-of-a-kind shops and tasty restaurants housed in the historic stone and brick buildings that line St Lawrence Street. A short stroll down St Lawrence Street and you arrive at the Rideau River and the Rideau Canal, a Unesco World Heritage Site. This is a beautifully maintained green space with picnic tables, bbq's and shady trees, from which you can watch the boats moving through the locks, perhaps while enjoying an ice cream cone! If you would like to swim there is a sweet little sandy beach with swings just behind the prettiest library in Canada and, if you would like, we will also share some of our other favourite swimming spots with you! Canoes and kayaks can be rented in town if you would like to explore the bird sanctuary that is nearby or just float gently for an hour or two. There are beautiful groomed hiking trails on the edge of town and lots of country roads to bike....we have two cruiser bikes that we will be happy to rent to you. Whether you are coming to shop or sight see, to hike to bike or to attend one of Merrickville's many festivals and events you'll have a comfy place to lay your head at Mr. Toad's Happy Place # 2!
  • I was at a wedding at the Baldachin inn down the road and it was SO nice to go "home" to a beautiful quite room. The bed was comfortable and they had everything I needed when I realized I forgot my toiletries! I had full communication with the owners and they were so great and so thoughtful. I don't think this trip could have gone any better tbh. I'm going to stay here whenever I have to go to merrickville or even want to get away for the weekend. I honestly cannot say good enough things about this place. oh and the beds and linens are absolutely beautiful!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lots of thought has been put into the little touches to make a traveller feel at home. We particularly enjoyed some of the vintage books. Thanks so much! We hope to return.

  • Mr. Toad's truly is a happy place. The hosts Mark & Susan have done a great job anticipating a traveller's needs. The set up provided good privacy and simple check in procedure. The location was ideal. The lovely porch was a great spot to finish the day.

  • A beautiful home, with great privacy and furnishings, tasty and refreshing snacks, multiple bathrooms, and very kind hosts. Just minutes away from everywhere in town by foot, I would recommend Mr. Toad's Happy Place to anyone staying in or passing through Merrickville.

    Adam2017-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Susan was very friendly and helpful. Great place to stay in Merrickville, with a few blocks walk to shopping and restaurants. Suggest getting a Keurig coffee maker.

  • We had the occasion to stay at the Happy Toad for one night while in the Merrickville area. The accommodations were easy to book, locate and the host, Susan was there to welcome us. This 1 1/2 storey home is located within walking distance of all the action in historic Merrickville. There is parking on the street and in the double wide parking lot. This home offers two rooms on the second floor that share one bath and have a common area with a small fridge stocked with snacks, fruit and enough goodies to make an informal breakfast. There is also a selection of teas and coffee, with cream in the fridge. The look is Boho and lots of care has been taken to provide space in the room for reading, make-up application and hair drying. There was a well stocked book shelf in our room - a lovely change from television! A quiet hair dryer is provided. The double bed was beautifully made up with a quilt, regular sheets and a duvet. There were numerous pillows including a body pillow in case you might be expecting. As well there was a wheeled shopping bag for those who take advantage of the ample artisan shopping available just steps away. The bathroom featured a roomy walk in shower with a separate bath stool for those who like to preen a bit more in the shower. There was a small vanity with mirror in the bedrooms as well which was a thoughtful touch so guests don't need to hog the bathroom to apply makeup. The bath offered all necessities in case you forgot something at home. Water pressure was great and the drinking water from the tap was absolutely lovely. There is bottled water in the fridge though if you want to go for second best. Upon arriving home Susan informed us that we had left a piece of clothing behind and kindly offered to arrange with me to post it to us. My husband and I enjoyed our stay and the only small negative that hubby could come up with was that the sloped ceiling made it difficult for his 6'1" frame to shave in the bathroom without bending. We would definitely recommend the Happy Toad for a leisurely stay in Merrickville.

    Brenda2017-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed my stay at Mr. Toad's Happy Place. It is a short walk to the Rideau and was so convenient to stay close to a wedding in Town. I wish I could have stayed longer. The room and set up is very true to the pictures, Mark and Susan have really thought about every detail for their guests.

    Lily2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Arrived and the house was cozy and very inviting. the location was within walking distance to everything in town. if you are staying in Merrickville I would highly recommend staying here instead of the Inn on main street.

Serene, quiet location on the Rideau River, yet close to local village, and 35 minutes from Ottawa. Small dogs under 30 lbs are allowed. There is a fence that will keep them inside and safe. Please note that we rent this as a "cottage" which in Canadian norms, means that we do not supply bedding and linen. Towels and pillows are provided, but bedding is not. No smoking is allowed on the property.
3 Bedroom cottage on the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Rideau Canal. Renovated in 2008. Charming, very private retreat nestled in picturesque Eastern Ontario countryside. Electricity and well fed water. Washer/dryer and shower, as well as stove/oven, fridge, and freezer. Please note that this is rented as a "Cottage", which means linen is not provided. Beds with mattresses, pillows, and towels are provided, but bedding is not. Very quiet and relaxing, but within 1/2 hour of Ottawa/Gatineau, and 10 minutes from the quaint Village of Merrickville, which is known for its charm, shopping opportunities, and its large numbers of artists.
  • Such a wonderful pace for a quiet getaway! We had such an amazing time relaxing and enjoying the simplicity of the cottage and the beautiful view of the river. Doug was very helpful and accommodating.

My place is close to downtown, Smiths Falls. Shared kitchen, living room and the second bathroom. Big backyard, gardens, deck and bbq. 7-minute walk to historic downtown, the Heart of the Rideau Canal. You’ll love it because of the comfortable bed and the peaceful backyard. Large private room and shared bathroom on the second floor. Walk-in wardrobe in the private room. Free use of kitchen, fridge, and appliances. Great place with free driveway parking for up to 3 cars.
  • Ligang (Edward) is new to being a host. He was very pleasant and welcoming. The room is very big with a comfortable bed in a quiet house. The tv does not work and there is no walk-in closet. Also the fridge was not functioning for the 3 days I was in town. I was given a hand towel for my shower. I suggest you bring your own. On my next trip to Smith Falls I will check the reviews to see if some details have improved and if so I will book again with Edward.

A beautiful historic Victorian home a half an hour from all the delights and amenities in the City of Ottawa. A comfortable friendly environment for you to enjoy on your visit to Ottawa. In the little hamlet of Oxford Mills you can enjoy a wonderful meal at the Brigadoon Restaurant, one block away. Kemptville and Merrickville 2 small towns are 15 minutes away and full of shops, bars, and restaurants.
There is lots of room in the house and you are welcome to come downstairs for a late night snack or early morning coffee. In the summer we have a large screened in porch and outdoor private deck for your enjoyment. The hot tub is right beside the deck for your enjoyment as well.
We are fans of Merrickville and would recommend you visiting this little town. There is a collection of fine places to eat on main street and really nice unique shops.

  • Ian and Beth, with Gizmo and Quark, made my stay 'just like home'. Very comfortable and delightful couple. The dog was a cuddler after he accepted me and the cat enjoyed coming up for scratches. From the moment I arrived I felt welcomed. The home and room were comfortable, the atmosphere peaceful and the surroundings tranquil. Food was good and plentiful. I would like to stay here again in the future.

  • This is a wonderful place for a weekend of relaxation. Just like having your own cottage without the work. We loved uding the canoe and having a fire.

  • Wim's cottage was ideal for our summer family trip. Close to anything we needed, including a day trip to Ottawa, and Wim was easy to get a hold of for the few minor questions we had. We would definitely recommend this cottage, and hope to return. Thanks Wim! The Allen's

    Geoff2017-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Wim's cottage was exactly as shown in the pictures, if not nicer. The cottage has everything you would need to cook, make coffee, and simply (URL HIDDEN) was clean and tidy and there were even water bottles put out for us (though you can drink the tap water). The water front is amazing (though a little weedy). We spent almost all our time outside sitting 4 feet from the water in the swing chair and hammock. Wim was a very responsive host - he answered the phone and texts immediately, and when we asked where the hammock was he explained the previous visitors had broken it and then had someone go out and buy one and bring it to us 12 hours later. A great cottage and a great host. Thanks Wim, we will be back.

  • I felt most welcome from the moment I arrived until I left. Kemptville hospital has patients from out of town... and I was in town supporting a friend having knee replacement surgery. There is a lovely path from Audrey's place to the hospital; downtown is walking distance; and sitting by the creek in Audrey's back yard was so relaxing. I had a potentially stressful stay, but Audrey's hospitality and location gave me the chance to really take a break. In my age group, I will have lots of friends going to Kemptville hospital and I will recommend Audrey's home to their caregivers! The animals are so well behaved and friendly, too. The bed was super comfortable and the place was immaculate. The WIFI was strong enough for me to teach a class by (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) in the back yard. The student loved the view so much that I posted a picture of my Muskoka chair, computer and coffee by the creek; I got over 60 likes from people all over the world! Thanks, Audrey!

  • Audrey took care of very well. She welcomed us at the door, with treats for my pup! My dog took to Audrey, the kids and her dog right away. Our room was v clean and comfortable. She even took the trouble to make muffins late in evening so my son can have breakfast very early in the morning for his training.

    Maria2016-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • It was a wonderful stay.

  • Audrey was lovely and her son and dog where both cute and friendly! The room was as described and we where greeted on time and given helpful advise on where to find dinner. Her house was clean and we where pleasantly surprised with breakfast and coffee in the morning. Would stay here again if in the area.

  • Great spot for those travelling with pets. Trudy was very welcoming and friendly. Room was clean and comfortable. Trudy gave us directions around town and to the best chip truck in area for glute free poutine. Highly recommended her for a pet friendly b and b.

  • Audrey and the rest of the family are very nice. Audrey was very flexible, we arrived late in the evening. The two rooms and the bathroom were very clean plus the two beds were very comfortable. The location is very convenient, travelling between Ottawa and Toronto. The overall experience was very positive.

  • Audrey was such a wonderful host. We drove up to Kemptville from London in that terrible ice storm. Audrey was very flexible with our late arrival time. The room was very clean and spacious. The next morning Audrey offered us coffee and breakfast - which was delicious. She is a great people person and our first Airbnb experience was a great one!

They were great and I would certainly recommend a stay over for anyone passing through and I will certainly contact them again the next time I am back in town and in need of a place to stay!!! Thank you for your hospitality Samantha!!

Our room was spacious and comfy. All our needs were lovingly met. We hope to return when our travels take us to this beautiful part of the world. Kathryn/Jim

  • I enjoyed my stay in this very unique B&B.

    Marguerite2013-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Janice and her family were very gracious and kind hosts. However, if you're looking for a professional B&B experience, this is not it. This is essentially a bed to stay in. No locks on the doors, so if you're in the least bit squeamish about bunking with strangers (not just the family, but others) this may be of concern. While I'd stay at a place like this myself, it was not appropriate for my older parents.

    Kelly2014-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Janice was very accommodating and helpful re my unusual needs (I needed space for a writing retreat). The home is really lovely and comfortable.

  • Christina and I had a really great time at Janet and Garry's beautiful converted church home near Perth. It was our first airb&b experience and certainly won't be our last. We were warmly welcomed and in minutes felt right at home. The room was very comfortable, just perfect really, and our hosts were even able to accommodate a feather allergy with alternate bedding. We had great conversation, and got some useful travel tips, too, as we learned about their experiences abroad. The place is a short ten minutes outside of Perth, and we went into town for dinner and a look around - also lovely; the Tay river and its canals section the little town which is full of old stone buildings, curiosity shops and several pubs and restaurants. Back at the house, we sat with Janet and Garry and talked into the night, joined by another couple they were hosting from Ottawa (I think there's a picture). All in all, it was an excellent airb&b experience, topped off with fresh coffee and cereal on the table in the morning. :-) Thanks so much Janet and Garry, we're sold, this is the way to go. Rob and Chris, Kingston ON.

  • Nestled in a small village, within an easy drive of Ottawa, it was lovely to meet Janet and her family. She provides material and information for the area and is always willing to help. Janet's outgoing, positive personality makes it a pleasure to visit with her and share conversation. The room is pleasant and clean. One feels like this is a home away from home in many aspects. Thank you for letting me stay at your home, Janet and for being a wonderful hostess.

    Sharon2014-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Janet and her cool kids were very nice and helpful hosts of their unusual, but nonetheless awesome home. She even made us blueberrypancakes in the morning and shared great hints about the local area (The Roosterant was so good). Highly recommend!! We felt very welcome!

    Meike2014-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Janet is a very responsible host. We stayed a night in her Gothic stone Church home without her and her family's presence. But she kindly left everything for us and replied all my questions and concerns in time. It's a very cozy house and my parents and I enjoyed our stay there. The country is very quiet and has great views during the day.

  • Very nice home on the Rideau River, a peaceful location and we had a blue heron walk across the river front while eating breakfast on the deck...wonderful to see! River is a little weedy by the dock so I did not go for a swim, but people were enjoying the river fishing and boating a little further out. A firm double mattress upstairs in open concept loft and softer double down with a single in two separate bedrooms. Place was very clean and had all amenities you need to cook a tasty meal. Well water with a bit of iron scent but felt good after a shower. Would highly recommend this location and would stay here again..:)
