We supply plates and utensils so you can bring your take-out or snacks and enjoy your meal either indoors or outdoors in solitude. There is a sink so your plates and utensils may be cleaned. There is a French press and a teapot so you can make hot beverages. We encourage you to enjoy the local restaurants and recognize the hut experience is not a cooking experience due to the many forest animals and insects that it tends to attract. *Modern compost toilet. Not a flushing toilet :) Please see picture for reference. We suggest guests arrive before sunset as the forest gets very dark at night. Please bring a torchlight if you will be arriving late or after dark. *There is no wifi or cell services. Incase of an emergency, we have a phone for you to use. :) *NO hairdryer or hair iron, please. The hut can only support minimal electrical usage. There are insects too ... :)
The Redwood Forest Camping Hut is set in the woods with no visible neighbours. Our neighbors are all generally very quiet. Our little town of Elk is fairly small, but beautiful. A great place for a hike down to the beach or along the coastline. You can grab breakfast/lunch at Queens Roadhouse Cafe (Thursday thru Monday 8am to 3pm). There are also many other restaurants/cafes along Hwy 1 within a few miles. --- Mendocino - 25 min (14.6 miles) Elk Town - 11 min (5.4 miles) The larger market in Mendocino is open until 9:00pm.
  • My stay at the Forest retreat was magical. The design and details were above what I expected and it's those little details that make this place so great. I will definitely be back again.

  • Such a magical experience! Rob & Elsa put so much thought and detail into this space. It felt so lovely to spend our gals weekend, gazing out to the redwoods, and breathing in that fresh air! What a nice escape from the city... a true gem! Thank You.

  • This place is a little slice of heaven! And the little details that Rob and Elsa thought of just add a little magic to their beautiful cabin.

    Hedvy2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing stay. I felt totally off the grid (only nature sounds, trees, and the stars) while surrounded by thoughtful amenities and stylish design. I loved taking a forest bath and the hut couldn’t have been cozier on a chilly night. And don’t get me started on the playlist that greeted me; basically, they have great taste in every respect. :)

    Sally2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I had such a great time at Rob and Elsa’s hut. It was a such a great way to enjoy nature and get some rest and relaxation. We were pleasantly surprised by how much there was to do around Elk as well. Highly recommend a trip to Rob and Elsa’s!

  • Our stay was absolutely perfect. Rob and Elsa thought of everything when it came to the little details that would make our stay more enjoyable. We walked in and there was soft music playing and pretty lighting, we instantly felt relaxed. At first we were worried about not having WiFi but it turns out it was exactly what we needed to disconnect from technology and truly relax. Would recommend this spot to anyone and hope to visit again. I was so sad to leave!

  • Rob and Elsa have created a very special place with the Water Tower Loft. There were such thoughtful touches when we arrived, and the space was larger than I expected. Everything was so well-appointed - the bed and linens were so comfortable, the kitchenette was well-stocked with essentials, and there was even music to listen to! It was such a perfect place to escape two for a couple nights, and I hope to return soon!

A roadside attraction without the distraction. A car goes by, a bicyclist or walker passes, swallows dip and dart. This circa 1890s former blacksmith shop is twenty feet to the peaceful Pacific Coast Highway, and a quick walk to a secluded beach. Westport boomed in 1878 and was the largest town north of San Francisco, but truth be told, not much happens here any more. Open and airy and cozy and happy, packed with strange and varied art work. Enjoy cooking and napping, reading or staring, and the endless changing Pacific off the deck. Writers, escapists, and creative types will appreciate the solitude of the detached artist studio. One bedroom is cozy and dark, the other bright, with a view to the ocean and a loaded bookshelf. The kitchen has a 4 burner gas range/oven and coffee maker. The living area has a long table for a gourmet spread or a project. Bath with shower, washer and dryer, and the Lost Coast's largest collection of those plaster fish. Watch a DVD or listen to music. Play a game. Be inspired. Soak in the hot tub or just sit on the porch in comfortable adarondack chairs. Outside you will find a 100 square foot artist studio with another large deck. There is a writing desk inside and a stereo system for ipod/computer hookup with two indoor speakers. Great space to do some morning yoga or painting. There is also a very comfortable oversized chair that converts to a twin size sleeper bed. Extra sheets/blankets are next to the sofa sleeper. You will also find a charcoal grill outside. There sandy beaches just a block away and down the bluffs to stairs. All the nearby beaches are dog friendly too and pets are welcome in my home. Buy local! The Westport General store sells beer and staples and makes great organic sandwiches and pizzas to order. The Westport Hotel and Old Abalone Pub serves dinners on the weekends. Off high-way parking for two cars. Note that the side yard is a sculpture construction site for The Westport Whale, a future roadside attraction. This place has all the basic amenities without the frills. The exterior of the house is almost completely renovated fully restoring it to it's historic state. It is my Dream and my favorite place to be in the whole world. I hope you will enjoy it too.
  • This place was great. Exactly what I was looking for on my birthday weekend! I can't believe I found someone who has more copies of Moby Dick than I do.

    Emily2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Breath taking views, amazing location , access to private dog friendly beaches walking distance, very quiet town, 20 minute drive to fort bragg, and most importantly Kyle was an amazing super host, and very nice and accommodating. Booked another stay the day I checked out. Dont think just book it!

    Chase2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Kyles place was just as expected and more! The whale theme is off the charts! He did such a great job decking the place out. The hot tub was a really great touch too. It’s right in town so you can easily walk to the pub.

    Daniel2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a truly magical, special, unforgettable spot! The location is incredible - more-so than words could ever express. And the quirky art was interesting and cool! Thanks for a glorious experience.

    Ally2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We just returned last night from our 2 night stay which was not enough time there :) You MUST come and experience Kyle's Artist's Oceanside House! From the moment you pull into the driveway and walk up the stairs of the deck and see the view of the beautiful Pacific Oean AHHHHH....and then enter the house to find so many things to look at. From books to pictures to art peices...you can spend hours taking it all in. If you enjoy wine tasting please check out the Pacific Star Winery which is about a 10 minute drive. The wine, the view and crash of the waves was breath taking. We just can't say enoguh about Kyle's magical place so you will need to just come and see it for yourself. :)

    Sharon2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Very interesting house, plenty of art to keep you busy inside and out. Very nice beaches nearby, great views of the ocean.

    Tom2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • It was just what we needed, beautiful views, amenities in the kitchen, a hot tub with a view, close to local beaches, and a short drive to fort bragg!!! Loved staying here I would highly recommend it!

    Nicole2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Kyle’s place is magical, with whimsical touches in every room. The view from the kitchen and whale is amazing! We had great fun staying up here, even though the local pub was closed for January and the drive to Fort Bragg was a bit far...If you are ok being out of town, do not hesitate as this place is just so fun! We had two couples and it was just plenty of space and we cooked multiple times. Loved it!

The studio features a spacious architecturally designed living area, kitchenette, 2 beds (+air mattresses) & bath in a lush 8 acre garden. Your own private retreat includes sauna, hot tub, breakfast, and massage (separate fee paid to masseur) by prior appointment. All just 5 minutes from town and Glass Beach.
The Mendocino Coast's most popular Airbnb destination now has over 900 five-star reviews. The Garden at Road’s End, located just two miles from the beach at Pudding Creek in Fort Bragg is a garden lover’s paradise. Set on 8 acres in the middle of a carefully tended lush landscape, the gardens are surrounded by fields, forest, and redwood groves. As my guests, you’ll have the sense you’ve stepped into another world- one that offers peace, tranquility, and the opportunity to recharge and find your own place of inspiration. You will be offered a private, self-contained architecturally designed studio adjacent to the main house. The 500 sq. ft. space features a comfy living area with a large sofa, table and chairs, a cozy window seat with views to the gardens, and photographs and original artwork by some of The Mendocino Coast's most renowned artists. The sleeping area includes TWO double beds, so the studio easily accommodates four, in one large, light-filled room. A queen-sized air mattress is also available for those of you wishing to add an extra person or two. The well-appointed kitchenette allows you to prepare simple meals with its refrigerator, countertop convection oven, toaster, microwave, coffee maker, tea kettle and blender. An array of simple breakfast foods, (bagels, cereals, fruit) and coffee and teas are included with your accommodations. A dining table and 4 chairs allow you to eat comfortably, and a beautiful bathroom of modest proportions with a glass block shower, plus large area for hanging and storing clothes complete your accommodations. A very efficient Monitor heater will keep your room at the temperature you prefer. In the event of planned or unplanned power outages, I have a generator to provide you with all the essentials, minus the hot tub, sauna, and garden fountains and waterfalls. A wet/dry cedar sauna, free weights, hot tub and deck, outdoor shower, comfy hammock, fire table (extra fee), free Wi-Fi, and plenty of places to sit throughout the gardens complement your studio space. A separate massage studio on the property offers massage and bodywork by prior appointment with an extremely talented local professional therapist, Paul, and he will help you to fully unwind and surrender into peace. Once you have a confirmed reservation you may message me for contact information for massage appointments. The gardens have played host to many garden tours, fund-raising events, an inspirational Houzz video, and more than a dozen couples have been married in the gardens over the past 20 years. Please note I no longer host weddings or events, however. I bring my talents as an architect, landscaper, lover of Spirit, and as an innkeeper for 13 years at a retreat center in Sonoma County into play here, where I have finally found a place to live out my passion, and share it with others. I am fully licensed to operate a B&B, and the rates include an 11% hotel tax which I pay to the county, so staying with here helps support the local economy here on the Mendocino Coast. The Garden at Road's End is just 5 minutes from downtown with its restaurants and shops, and from the famous Glass Beach, Skunk Train, and from miles of spectacular coastline with its many beaches and hiking trails. The property is a 20 minute drive along Highway One to the Victorian Village of Mendocino- a must see! I look forward to playing unobtrusive host to those of you who feel inspired to visit and will do my best to make your stay a memorable one.
The neighborhood is a great location, just 5 minutes from downtown Fort Bragg, Glass Beach, and the coastal bluffs, yet the property is at the very end of a quiet gravel road, and the only sounds you will hear are the garden's waterfalls, crows, wind in the redwoods, horses hooves and whinnies in the adjacent pasture, and when the conditions are right, the ocean surf. We are at the edge of the "banana belt": when Fort Bragg is socked in with summer fog, we are very often still in sunshine.
  • John’s place was so spectacular and was very comfortable and clean! He put so much thought into everything about the space from the breakfast to the extra linens to the sauna and hot tub. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is staying in Fort Bragg. I wish I had stayed for longer than one night!

    Ann2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • John's garden paradise beats any other Airbnb experience I have had to date. The studio is so comfortable and well appointed, and the gardens are magical. Hot tub and sauna top it of.

  • Beautiful studio, garden, spa and more

    Elyssa2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • It gave us a big surprise and it was the perfect place to stay during our trip. The various plants in the large garden are very beautiful. We saw deer in the forest in the morning, and the children were very happy! The hot pool in the forest, the large brazier on the lawn, the independent hut gym and the sauna ... all enjoyed alone, this feeling is very comfortable. The room was comfortable and the lighting effects were very good, and I enjoyed staying here. We are fortunate to find such a house, which is inexpensive and a perfect experience.

    Dali2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful garden, just gorgeous and the hot tub was very nice and enjoyable! Great place to relax!

    Casey2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful! From the gardens to the unique finishes inside the house, this place was gorgeous. We love the garden, hot tub & sauna and appreciated the little details such as the local magazines and coffee. It was sparkling clean & beautifully furnished. We also loved being surrounded by trees and the serenity of the place.

    Amanda2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • If you want a quiet retreat in a beautiful environment, then this is a fine destination.

    Beau2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • John’s Garden Paradise was a beautiful stay for a weekend in Fort Bragg! The house is only a few minutes from downtown, the garden is spectacular beyond words, and the studio is very cozy. Back to the garden though: We were in awe! The time, patience and work that goes into that garden is incredible. What a beautiful place to call home for the weekend. Highly recommend this slice of paradise.

Cell service is spotty in this area. Verizon and US Cellular seem to work well. Note: the cabin is self-catering (e.g. no room service breakfast like the inns provide). Designed for a getaway. We look forward to sharing this retreat with those who seek harmony and proximity to nature's moods. A true retreat and sanctuary. A few words about Owl Tree cabin to help you decide if you might want to stay here. We first noticed how undulating lacy green patterns change as the morning sun makes its way through the trees. The Owl Tree cabin has its own level driveway; it takes less than a minute to walk from where you park to the cabin. We live on the far side of the property. All that you might hear at night will be the breeze in the top branches of the redwoods, and perhaps frogs, an owl, or the red-tailed hawk who soars nearby. Every spot on Earth has its own unique energy and the cabin and the small canyon it was built in are conducive to creative energy, to the creative mind, at work or play. The cabin is also a place for intimacy—hopefully more than just a place to sleep while you enjoy the coast, this place is designed to become part of your experience here. The oak table was the idea the cabin was built around—you can sit there, draw, write or daydream, warmed by the wood burning stove, and let your imagination germinate like the wild orchids in the canyon. Proximity. We are located about four and a half miles inland from Pacific Coast Highway, just beyond reach of summertime wind and fog. When it is cold and wet on the coast it is often sunny and warm here, summer tempered by the coastal marine layer. Closest market, post office and gas are 7 miles from the cabin. Some of the best beaches, hiking trails, places to dive and kayak are between here and Elk, and of course the historic and picturesque village of Mendocino is about 13 miles away. A wine tasting trip to the magnificent Anderson valley is within 30 minutes. The Owl Tree cabin comes with a picnic table and umbrella in a small meadow next to redwood trees; also perfect for stargazing. Regardless of where you decide to stay, we hope you have a great time. It is hard to imagine a world in trouble when you are here. The meadows, the forests, and the pristine ocean seem timeless. Check in: ideally from 4 pm - 6 pm by prior arrangement for your particular arrival day. Try to arrive before dark! Check out before noon. By making a reservation, you confirm that you understand our strict cancellation policy. Please protect your holiday with Trip & Travel Insurance. Note: price includes 11% Mendocino County Bed Tax for stays less than 30 days.
Our homestead is in the middle of timberland. There really isn't a neighborhood. Closest restaurants (Ledford House)(Albion River Inn) are 6 miles; closest store and post office (Albion) are 7 miles.
  • It was great! As expected

    Tony2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place is exactly what I thought it would be based on the listing here, and I mean that in the best way possible. We had high hopes for getting away from our lives to find some quiet, read and eat some healthy food we brought from home. This place delivered and was super cozy, even when it got cold out. Looking forward to our next opportunity to come by here again.

  • A weekend getaway with my partner up in the Northern California coast was made more memorable by Karen and Will’s lovely owl tree cabin. We enjoyed reading Will’s poems and the quietness and relaxed environment this cabin afforded us to have! What an amazing getaway.

    Jack2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Our second visit here! We love using the cabin as a home base for exploring the Mendocino Coast and Anderson Valley. In addition to being such a well-designed, well-built sanctuary, the Owl Tree Cabin is also a wonderfully functional space. We like making our vacation dollars last by preparing meals from delicious local fare in the cabin kitchen which has everything you need and nothing you don't. Karen's recommendations for local spots are excellent as well. We hope to visit again!

  • Karen was such a gracious and warm host. She gave us a tour of the beautiful cabin and was kind enough to leave us an umbrella as it was raining outside. The cabin is a special place and we loved our time here. We highly recommend it for those seeking an escape and some quiet time to reflect and recuperate.

  • A must book spot in the midst of the woods. Enjoy the serene and calm, quiet place to hideout from the city noise. Karen and Will are great, super helpful and takes an extra effort to make sure we are enjoying our stay. Glad to have chosen this spot, we will definitely try to come back again.

  • Amazing space and off the grid! Very cozy and a wonderful weekend away in the woods! It’s our 2nd time staying in this Airbnb and we would happily visit again! Thanks Karen!

  • We loved staying at Karen’s cabin. It was one of the best travel experiences I’ve had. The cabin was so cute and she left us treats to welcome us. The setting was so magical, we can’t wait to come back!

  • Highly recommend this place. It is a beautiful thing to walk into a space that ya fresh flowers, gorgeous lighting, and such an easy check in process. We appreciated the tips and advice, as well as the tea and coffee. Thank you so much for letting us stay!

  • Anne and Bill’s studio is clean, comfortable and convenient! We highly recommend this stay if you are looking for a relaxing weekend on the Mendocino coast!

    Sydney2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely gem! My partner and I come up and stay at the Photographers Studio every year. The space is roomy and beautifully furnished. Every time we’ve stayed we fall more in love with the studio and with Fort Bragg. This time around we couldn’t help but notice how great we slept each night! The location is minutes away from the Headlands and less then 10 from Glass Beach. Anne has some great suggestions for local eats and trails. Zazi is the sweetest and a staple of our visit. Can’t wait to come back up!

    Chanel2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place. Modern inside, rustic outside. Great courtyard to birdwatch.

    Helen2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • What an incredible treat - the Photographer's Studio was the perfect place for a weekend getaway. The studio itself is private with many personal touches. It is obvious Anne and Bill are very thoughtful about the space and their guests' experience. The bed is comfy and the studio includes plenty of amenities including coffee, tea and even cream in the fridge. Anne, Bill and Zazi were wonderful hosts and had excellent advice for our adventures in the area. I can't rave about this place enough!

    Kendall2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very beautiful scenery. There was pamphlets to tour around fort Bragg also a list of dining places . And a very friendly four legged furry friend !!

    Leslie2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Can’t say enough good things about Anne and Bill’s hospitality and all the thoughtful touches in this cute studio. From the coffee maker to the nice shampoos to Bill’s photographs on the walls, this is a lovely, quiet spot. You’re a quick drive to the restaurants and coastal trail in Ft Bragg, and maybe a 10 minute drive to Mendocino itself. Quiet and private, but Anne was helpful at all times. And they have a friendly, sweet dog, too. Strong recommend.

    Michael2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin studio is one that makes you feel perfectly at home amidst quiet forests, fresh air, and beautiful coastal waves. It's a 15 min drive to downtown Mendocino, and less than 5 minutes from downtown Fort Bragg. Anne and Bill were lovely hosts, as we were greeted with smiles and reassurance that if we needed anything at all, they would be happy to help. Their dog Zazi was a delight, also greeting us with sweetness. The studio is cozy, clean, and very relaxing. Views from the garden were magical. Can't wait to stay here again!

Situated in our beautiful garden, this cozy little redwood Shanti cabin is a 30 second walk to the bathroom, 12 minutes from Mendocino village, and other attractions, is equipped with double/full mattress, has electricity, bath towels, small table, two chairs and a oil heater. Self check in, just in case we are out. The Sunlit is directly to the right, enter through the garden gate which is to the west of the parking, you will see the cabin with the purple door. Key is in the cabin.
One of two Shanti cabins situated in our garden; small, cozy and private. This one, beautifully built out of salvaged redwood, is facing south right in to the beautiful garden and has great afternoon sun on the deck. Check-in from 2pm-10pm, check-out 12pm. Self check is sometimes necessary after 10pm.
We're 4 miles inland in the "banana belt" as it's been dubbed. The fog tends to hang just out of reach of this cozy zone.
  • This place is very cute- on a property with other little cottages. Steve the host is great. Bed was one of the best sleeps I’ve had. Just an FYI, the bathrooms are detached from the sleep space but we didn’t mind- the whole little farm is pretty magical

    Lauren2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Down to earth home and dude. Such care put into all of the aspects of home. Steve's hands went into a look of the work in the Shanti and it is clear to see he is a thoughtful caretaker of his land and home. Would book again, I look forward to returning sometime soon.

    Alexander2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Steve’s place was perfect! The little shanti I stayed in was very clean and cozy and made for a relaxing stay. The hosts were phenomenal and very welcoming!

  • I came to Pegasus Farms with the intention of spending a weekend alone writing in a cozy space surrounded by natural beauty. I did do some writing and I was surrounded by natural beauty, but other things ended up happening too, including dance party, steak grilling, farming, hiking through a pygmy forest, music jamming, deep conversations with lovely humans, hanging out with ridiculously sweet cats and a chatty duck, experiencing some fine dining, and reading pearls of wisdom from a book called, The Best Advice Ever Given, which was on the bookshelf of my shanti. It was a magical weekend spent with some beautiful people (i.e., Steve and Anne-Marie). I will definitely be going back. Some useful information - I was glad I brought some rain boots that I could easily slip on and off to walk to the bathroom in the wee hours of the morning. It does get chilly at night, so bring warm clothing. Other than that, just be open to the magic of this beautiful place:)

Nestled between the redwoods & pigmy forest 3 miles from Mendocino Village, this tiny house comes with a kitchenette, sofa bed, bar/dining area, and sleeping loft, with a short stroll outside through the garden to your separate private bathroom & shower. *BED IS UP A LADDER At night you can enjoy s'mores around the stone fire pit, while star-gazing and enjoying the sounds of silence... except for the chorus of frogs in the pond and chirping of the birds. Then wake up to a morning Nespresso!
We know the area well, so feel free to ask us for tips on anything that comes to mind... whether it's an activity you're interested in, where to eat or upcoming local events. Or just take it easy in the quiet comfort of our secluded property and feel free to pick some herbs, veggies, & apples in the garden. We just added a 2-person hammock by the fire pit, so enjoy napping or stargazing. Our water is excellent for drinking, filtered from a well. Wi-Fi may be spotty on occasion, and no cell service at the property unless you have Verizon. (Some other carriers work here, but not AT&T.)
All properties in our area are between 5 and 20 acres, so there's plenty of peace and privacy. Five of our 20 acres are fenced in, so you can roam the grounds without getting lost in the woods!
  • Only stayed one night, but wish we stayed at least two

    David2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Our recent stay at this tiny house in Ukiah made for an unforgettable experience. Tucked into a grove of Redwoods, this charming little accommodation is part of Tracy's and Bart's overarching property, which also includes their main house with an adjacent guesthouse, and then a little cabin and the tiny house. Some perks we particularly enjoyed: - On the property is a little outdoor fire pit which all guests are free to use. There were ingredients for smores provided in the accommodations! A really nice touch! - The Nespresso machine in the tiny house which allowed for delicious morning coffee, with both regular and plant-based creams provided -- a thoughtful touch. - Portable heaters places in the house and separately located bathroom, for cooler days. - An outdoor shower provided exclusively for the tiny house -- with all necessary toiletries provided. - Clearly labeled and assigned parking spots for each accommodation/guest. - Plenty of towels and linens made available for guests. - The warm + friendly welcome from hosts Bart + Tracy, and their impeccable and useful communication leading up to + throughout the stay. - The nightly "frog orchestra!" I had never heard such a symphony of frogs before. It felt really nice and nostalgic to hear them again, and so many! - Just the overall experience of getting to test out how what it would be like to live in a tiny home, and the pleasures that can be found in such a type of minimal living space and lifestyle. : )

    Ulara2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Do yourself a favor and stay here at least two nights — the first is just enough to get settled in, but the second day is when the real magic begins. It was such a treat to wake up slowly, do some tiny house yoga, enjoy breakfast and nespresso on the patio with the sun in my eyes, and head out to adventure along the coast for the afternoon. The magic continued with a fire in the fire pit that evening, and some cozy time inside with a book by the faux fireplace. I cannot recommend this little oasis more - don’t hesitate to book if you’re looking for a Mendocino retreat. Thoughtful touches and amenities galore, and overall a delightful experience. I have a feeling I’ll be back!

  • An adorable Tiny House with tall trees as neighbors peaking in lovingly from all the windows. Terrific location and super friendly and accommodating hosts. I'd love to come back and stay longer next time to gaze at the blanket of stars and take advantage of the gorgeous garden area.

  • I am so happy I came across Tracy and Bart's tiny house. It was the perfect Valentine's Day trip. They had so many extra amenities that made this stay so amazing! I would come back to Mendocino again just to stay in the tiny house. I absolutely recommend it to anyone who wants a cute, quiet getaway.

  • Beautiful tucked away gem. Can’t wait to come back and stay longer

    Kacy2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Just beautiful. Where else can you sleep in an adorable tiny house, shower under a canopy of tall, old trees, and relax in a beautiful garden/fire pit area? Tracy and Bart’s property is a convenient ten minute drive from Main Street Mendocino but it still manages to feel remote and serene at the same time. I hope to return for a longer stay. Definitely recommend to anyone looking to unwind in a beautiful place!

AT THIS TIME, THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA & MENDOCINO COUNTY ARE ORDERED TO SHELTER - IN-PLACE AND NOT ACCEPT ANY RESERVATIONS FOR VACATION RENTALS. PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR THE LATEST UPDATE WHEN THE CRISIS HAS PAST. HIDDEN in the Redwoods of the Northern California Coast, just 6 miles from the Village of Mendocino, Big River Farm is a tranquil getaway just minutes from the Pacific Ocean, endless adventure, fine dining, and much more.
Big River Farm was once a Zen commune in the 60's. We have retained much of the flavor of that time. There are 4 dwellings on the property, strategically situated to have privacy from each other, but sharing the driveway, orchard & garden. The Zendo is a REDWOOD HOUSE nestled amongst the ferns and cherry trees, and can sleep 4 between its cozy BEDROOM w/ queensize bed and LIVING ROOM w/ queensize pullout sleeper couch. There is a separate "bonus room" in the TOWER for yoga or quiet time. This room is not heated or insulated, so the wintertime is a bit challenging, In the summer it is a lovely retreat. We added satellite wifi to the Zendo, so guests can check their email & surf the web. We have limited data, however, and streaming video or audio is restricted. LARGE KITCHEN is well-equipped for cooking and entertaining. A couple or individual could enjoy the spacious single bedroom house, or up to 4 guests can comfortably share an incredibly AFFORDABLE vacation house.
We are surrounded on 3 sides by State Parks, so are really located "deep in the forest" while still having access to the paved road to town. We can walk down a trail to the river from the property, but it's very steep and most people enjoy going to the mouth of the river to Big River Beach and walking or biking up the Haul Road on the other side of the river. There are trail maps on the desk in the Zendo.
  • What an awesome place! Zendo is a gem that we felt so lucky to have experienced. If you need an escape from the world, this is definitely the place to go!

    Jeff2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie's place is perfect for a getaway weekend. You'll wake up in the woods but you're also very close to Mendocino and the coast.

    Amelie2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Another wonderful stay at the Zendo! Incredible architecture, beautiful location in the woods, and well-appointed with a wood stove and good kitchen. We pack some food and wine and huddle up for the weekend, only leaving for a quick hike in the woods every now and then. Only complaint this time was that it didn't rain--the property is even more majesting hearing raindrops tap on the roof.

  • The perfect place for a weekend in the middle of the nature. The place is really magic ! We will remember it for a long time

    Chase2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • What a magical spot! I almost don't want word to get out, but a stay at the Zendo is truly a gift. Great for couples and lovingly dog friendly. The BEST pull-out couch I've ever slept in. Incredible to wake up among the redwoods and be in the middle of Mendocino a short drive away. Couldn't have asked for a better stay.

    Becky2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • My second time at the Zendo and it was perfect. A quiet getaway in a magical little forest house. Plenty of space, great views, clean, cozy, and a just a short car ride to town.

    Alison2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing, perfect, romantic, rustic, with thoughtful touches! We would definitely visit again. Loved the artwork, the windows amongst the woods, the fireplace w firewood, the kitchen, the outdoor spaces and hiking trails, the yoga loft, the quiet, and the tips for things to do locally. They have so many nice touches. They have board games, cards, extra blankets, a dog bed, dog furniture covers, and much more. Such thoughts hosts.

Casita In The Redwoods - On the Coast! This beautiful guesthouse has a private garden setting. Come shoot hoops on our basketball court. We're a seven minute drive to Gualala Point Beach, where one can park and enjoy a scenic, short 15 minute or 30 minute walk to the beach. "Gualala" means "Where The River Meets The Ocean." We are minutes away from the Gualala River - kayaking, The Gualala Arts Center, The Sea Ranch Golf Links, the Gualala Township shops, galleries, restaurants, and services.
Casita sits in a quiet, private and natural Redwood tree setting. A deer may occasionally wander through the property to find apples and plums. One can also spot migrating birds taking a break from flight, and if not to be seen, they are more often heard. Hummingbirds are almost a daily sight in the garden. Through the summer, crickets will chirp away in unison.......and in the fall and winter the distant sound of frogs claim the trophy for their synchronized off beat melody!
In a natural setting, the property sits about an acre away from the street, on the West side......typically, a very quiet neighborhood.
  • Just about five minutes out of Gualala's town center, the Casita in the Redwoods is a perfect getaway. In a wooded setting back from the road, the place is quiet and cozy. I appreciated Efrain's tips on scenic places to go in the area, and I also enjoyed just sitting in the casita's garden and knitting. The bed was very comfy and there was nothing I lacked. What a great find. Thank you, Efrain.

  • We absolutely loved our stay at the Casita in the Redwoods! It is obvious how much care and thought Efrain puts into this space to make it so special. We had a blast cooking in the well-stocked kitchen, and enjoyed almost all our meals on the beautiful patio amongst the redwoods and flowering magnolia and cherry blossom trees. Efrain was such a gracious host and made sure we felt right at home. We will definitely be returning to Efrain's casita.

Beautiful living space in our detached garage, 100 ft. from our main house. We have 2 large dogs, so we love other animal lovers! We are 4 miles north of the village of Mendocino, set within a mixed Redwood forest, pasture and seasonal stream. We pay an 11% hotel tax to Mendocino County, so we'll let you know how much it is, then cash is best when you arrive. One time $25/dog fee per dog. Dogs must always be on leash and never left alone. Please leave very anxious or aggressive dogs at home.
Our home/land is an oasis, surrounded by Nature. I am a Watsu and Shamanic Practitioner. Simply, we adore this place:) We are bordered on the north by Jughandle Reserve, and the east by Jackson State Forest.(approx. 15,000 acres!) Yes, we love it here:) We have 2 large friendly dogs, so renters must be comfortable with their sometimes coming over to say hello! There is a King size Tempurpedic bed in the room. A propane "wood stove" is your source of heat, along with an electric wall heater in the bathroom. Within the bathroom there is a beautiful slate steam shower, and the room also houses a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven and electric hot water kettle. $65. cleaning fee. $250. Returnable security deposit.
  • This was our third stay at Cathy’s. As was the case before, everything was wonderful. This is hands down one of our favorite places to stay - comfortable, clean, beautiful surroundings, and so relaxing. Cathy, Mark, Cara, and Jet were the best hosts yet again. We can’t wait to come back.

  • I absolutely enjoyed the place and the surroundings to relax and recharge in nature. I highly recommend waking up to an early morning walk through the forest on the property and saying hello to the horses. Stargazing at night is a must. Also the perfect location, not too far from Mendocino town with its delicious restaurants and friendly shop owners, and a beautiful beach close by at Jug Handle. The nearby state parks have lots of hiking and biking options to keep you fit and inspired!

  • We loved enjoying Mendocino with this spot as our peaceful home away from home. We loved exploring the property, hanging out with Catherine’s dogs, and chatting with her. The amenities had everything we needed and was perfect for my husband and I and our dog. We ate out for our meals, but the kitchen is great for tea, coffee, and snacks. The bed was comfortable and there’s space to eat or get work done. We liked the location between Mendocino and Fort Bragg so we could explore both. We hope to stay there again some day!

  • Wonderful, healthy, peaceful place to reconnect with yourself and nature. Loved all the organic products, bedding, towels, teas, coffee/cream, yogurt/granola, cloth napkins/placemat, gentle lighting, and the view of nature out the windows. Lovely hosts and a special place to visit. Definitely recommend going for a hike...

Full oceanfront view from all rooms-stunning great room 2 watch whales/wildlife-enormous deck w/fire pit-private setting-2 miles from Mendocino Village-1 mile from Russian Gulch SP-recent home remodel w/brand new furnishings-no smoking, no kids, no pets, and no parties
My house sits on a 1-acre parcel of land. Most homes in the area occupy even more. Point being, it's very quiet and most of the neighbors are at a distance from my home. You hear the sound of the ocean and wildlife like birds, not conversations of your next door neighbor.
  • This is a beautiful home situated in an idyllic location. Check-in/check-our procedures were communicated very clearly and we were impressed with how clean, modern and inviting everything was. There are a few “quirks” to the home such as the inability to walk directly out to the edge of the bluff that the home overlooks due to property lines, and the inability to open one of the doors that leads out of the home. However, we were not bothered at all about the bluffs as the home is still so close to the ocean and has fantastic views of the waves crashing, with ample grounds to wander on the property itself including a large deck with comfortable seating. And as for the doors that we could not open - they are not doors people would likely want or need to enter/exit through, anyway and Alice, the host, clearly communicated this in advance of our trip. Highly recommend his location and I wish we could have stayed longer. It was a relaxing weekend in a great little town; the home is tucked away from the main road (hwy 1), but is within a 5 minute drive of Downtown, within 7 minutes to Pt. Cabrillo, no more than 10 min to local hiking spots and beaches, and 20 minutes or so to Ft. Bragg.

  • This is one of our favorite places to stay in Mendocino. Alice is an amazing host and you feel truly cared for when you enter her home. This is our second time coming and will definitely be coming back.

  • Just a wonderful view and space, we even saw a whale while lounging on the couch...

  • Beautiful location w views of the ocean, amazing deck w fire pit, all the amenities you’d need and great tips for exploring the area. Such a perfect getaway! Highly recommend!

  • Alice's place was so nice. All the accoutrements, super-clean, great location. (We had over the top good luck weather-wise, but would have been nice even if it had been cold and damp outside.)

  • Alice’s place is a must stay when traveling to Mendocino. The views are remarkable. If you think the pictures of her house are beautiful, wait till you get there, it’s even better! Alice is a great host, very quick to respond to questions and provides a lot of helpful information to navigate getting to her house as well as how to function within it. She provided thoughtful touches such as socks at the front door and a welcome bottle of wine. Her house is sparkling clean and beautifully furnished. So much attention to detail! The kitchen has everything you need to cook with if you decide you can’t tear yourself away from the view. More than likely you won’t have cell phone service while at and around the house, but there is WiFi. If ever we find our selves traveling back to Mendocino, we will definitely stay here again!

    Denise2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful house with amazing views of the ocean. We really enjoyed spending many relaxing hours by the gas fire on the patio, drinking Mendocino wine and looking out at the ocean.

  • This house is gorgeous and the view is fantastic. You'll love sitting in the Great Room and watching the waves roll in. It's sparkling clean inside and has everything you could need. Very convenient to Mendo and nearby areas.

Retreat from the demands of daily life beneath majestic redwoods, among healing gardens and surrounding rustic area, with its tranquil atmosphere of silence, relaxation, and comfort, and be filled with peace.
WINTER SPECIAL: January and February - Book three nights, fourth night free. (request discount when booking) The Cottage at Milagro Grande IS: The joy of simple pleasures The casual comfort of feet on the coffee table Coffee in bed while you read one more chapter Scones and orange juice on the deck warmed by morning sun Being startled when a tree frog jumps as you move an outdoor pillow Watching hummingbirds bathe in the fountain and feeling their delight Looking up into the branches of a giant redwood and being awed Strolling through gardens of dazzling color and fragrance Looking into an evening circle fire and feeling its timeless connection Taking home the rejuvenation and healing that comes from slowing down and appreciating the joy of small things Our garden themed cottage offers just the right amount of rustic comfort. There is a queen-size bed fit for a king with a pampered feeling from organic bamboo sheets and pillows. There is a small galley kitchen with microwave, gas stove, small refrigerator, and basic equipment for light food preparation (after all, you didn’t come to the magnificent north coast to spend time in the kitchen cooking). There is a gas barbeque on your deck for your personal use. There is a full bath. The living area has a full-sized couch which makes into a bed, and a window seat suitable for a child (or an adult who wants to feel like a child). A propane fireplace provides heat and plenty of cozy without tending a fire. Internet is available and reliable. Everything you need for your "simple pleasures” getaway is provided or can be requested. We are conveniently situated a short distance from the seashore just beyond the usual fog line. Downtown Fort Bragg is five minutes away. Come stay with us and let the wonders of the wild north coast soothe and move you, and you will want to return again and again.
We live at the very end of the road and the last quarter mile is not paved. We are in a typical Mendocino county neighborhood of mixed old and new, large and small, homes. The property is forest and open ranch land on two sides. We are two miles inland from the ocean where Airport Road (there is no airport, which is a long story) meets the surf. We are minutes to our famous Glass Beach, the trestle bridge where Pudding Creek meets the sea, and the miles-long Haul Road, a paved mixed recreation trail along the bluffs with outrageous views of white water surf and sightings of passing whales. We connect with the newly opened section of the Coastal Trail. Bring your bikes, kayaks, and walking shoes. There's nearby surfing. fishing and state park events.
  • Kays place is warm and luxurious and perfectly located in a stunning garden of flowers and birds, 5 mins from an unspoilt 10 mile beach. You couldnt wish for a better place.

  • Kay's cabin is so adorable and cozy. I enjoyed my stay so much! It was so peaceful and beautiful. The towels and linens were very nice quality. There were plenty of blankets and pillows, so many comforts. I really enjoyed the property and hiking the trail in the back. It is so gorgeous! I would highly recommend staying here.

Authentic, rustic, retreat for 1 or 2 guests. Surrounded by young redwood forest, with privacy and a fire view wood stove. Unplug for the week/weekend or stay glued to the mad pace with screaming fast wifi! YES books have been written here. The latest: 'Chaos Monkeys', was published in June by HarperCollins, and stayed about four weeks on the NYT and WSJ bestseller lists. New pricing includes mandatory 11% in local hotel taxes.
Dramatic one bedroom, rustic/contemporary, guest house surrounded by forest, above the tiny coastal city of Point Arena – 3 hours north of San Francisco. This small home was designed as a remodel of an existing hippie cabin-in-the-woods. It has a queen size bed in the bedroom (downstairs) and one, exposed, twin mattress for an extra guest* in the loft upstairs. Soaring 18 foot butterfly walls, separated by an acre of redwood forest from nearest neighbors. It has a garden just outside. No cell phone reception but a landline provided for your use and VERY fast wifi . Filtered ocean view. Also features a fire view wood stove in the living room, a small, nicely equipped kitchen, Fußball in the tiny loft, and a tiled bath with shower/tub. Two other dwellings on the property, each on its own private acre in the woods can be found listed on airbnb. Our "Thoreau cabin/woods/write your book" is a one room cabin tucked away with distant coastal views from 3 windows. Our "Jewel box house w/ wide ocean view" has panoramic views of 5 miles of coastline and comfortably sleeps up to 4. Property is down a mile and a half of dirt road on a steep mountainside, accessible year-round. It is set back on the ridge above historic Point Arena and the Point Arena lighthouse, circa 1868. At this spot, it is possibly 300 meters above and 3.5 kilometers away from the ocean with naked green hills and deep forests of redwood, Doug Fir and pine all around. At night there are no lights to be seen from the guest house, outside of its own small illumination. Tranquil and set in spectacular nature -- excellent for bird watchers and other wildlife enthusiasts looking for deer, wild rabbits, and other small, harmless, creatures. Point Arena is the second western-most spot in the continental U.S. and is one of six locations around the globe selected by NASA for clean air quality samples. In addition to the lighthouse museum (URL HIDDEN) our tiny city has an epicurean French Bakery noted by several national magazines, a coop market with locally produced, organic produce in summer, an excellent 3 star restaurant, bread clubs featuring organic artisan breads AND a first-rate cinema (URL HIDDEN) with a new (usually independent) film each week and live broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera. The tiny city is located an hour south of the popular village of Mendocino -- another destination for spas and artisanal goods. Local sports include kayaking, hiking and biking along the coast, fishing, diving and and surfing off the pier. Inland, a 1.25 hour drive from our residence, is Mendocino's famous wine country (URL HIDDEN) which boasts the only still-free wine tastings in the Napa-Sonoma-Mendocino region.
Pristine and nationally recognized coastline with hiking trails and forest.

The health and safety of our guests, homeowners, and employees is our number one priority. Many of our vacation rentals minimize person-to-person contact with private amenities and entry via smart locks or lockboxes. Plus, each reservation is backed by 24/7 customer support and expert cleaning in line with current CDC guidelines.
Always dreamed of living in a hobbit-hole? Even if the thought never crossed your mind, you'll be dazzled by this Mendocino vacation rental, Bag End. Named after a Lord of the Rings reference, and being as full of character as the Tolkien novels are, this home is like none you've ever stayed in before. Resting quietly on 20 acres of private, wooded land, this is the ideal place to unplug and unwind. Though it feels worlds away from the everyday, it's still only three miles from the village of Mendocino, which offers eateries and shops. Hike from Mendocino Headlands Stare Park down to Big River Beach for a real Northern California Coast experience. Have more than four guests? You won't have to pass on this unique opportunity because you can also rent the property's second home, The Prancing Pony. That home accommodates a max of three adults (four guests if children are in the mix). Both exude a similar feel. Back at the fantastic cabin, you'll get lost in the hours doing nothing but relaxing. The grounds outside are made for enjoyment, from the rustic bench circle to the treehouse. Early birds can steal a moment on the wind chime-adorned porch to savor coffee amidst the fog. Make a memorable meal on the gas grill, which sits on the spacious furnished deck. The property includes a standard NEMA 14-50 exterior mounted 240 volt outlet for use with electric car chargers. Make sure to bring your charging cable or portable charging unit. Inside Bag End is the colorful grand room. Dusk welcomes a view through the telescope or an all-night round of board games. This cottage's kitchen is as handy as it is picturesque, offering all the basics and even a coffee bean grinder. The vibrant wood staining on the cabinetry continues into the half bathroom. The full bathroom boasts hardwood floors, a deep soaking tub, stand-alone shower, and views almost too good to believe. Between the two bedrooms are two king-size beds. The master bedroom is also equipped with a writing desk if you've come on a writing retreat and an armchair for catching up on some good reading. Both bedrooms and the master bathroom are accessible by a wooden spiral staircase. Would you expect anything less? Even though you'll feel like you've stepped into another world, you'll still have the comfort of a private washer and dryer, and there's even a 240 V hook up so you can charge your electric car! In addition to Mendocino village just three miles away, visit-worthy towns dot the coast both north and south of this popular destination. Find yourself in Fort Bragg up north for souvenir shopping or take a mini road trip south to Elk, Albion, Gualala, or even Bodega Bay. When you're ready to get away, really get away from it all with a stay at this Mendocino coast vacation home. A damage waiver, covering up to $2,000 of accidental damage to the property or its contents, is included in the cost of your reservation.
  • This is a very special place. It is sparkling clean very unique and situated in a gorgeous redwood forest

    Gail2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I's stay was nothing less than magical. This home is so uniquely built and decorated! I love how isolated we were on the property, the large windows and view were stunning. When we arrived, we were pleasantly greeted with a warm home, the heat was on! It was such a small thing but in 40-degree weather it made a huge difference! There were so many extra appliances we were not expecting (like a waffle maker!) which made mornings a little more special. The small collection of (mostly) mystery novels was such a treat, we were cozied up on the couch for a few days reading and enjoying the silence. Taking a bath in the upstairs bathroom is an unreal experience with the large windows that cover the walls. One final little quirk of this home is the way sound projects in the living room. While playing music that was extremely muted at the kitchen table, I walked over to the front door to get something from my car - only to realize that the sound was amplified because of the way the ceiling is shaped! My husband and I turned into fits of laughter from having so much fun with this little discovery. We loved the accessibility to Mendocino Village and plan on booking this place again. If you are looking for a place to getaway, unplug, and explore a few charming little towns, this is the place to book.

  • This is a wonderful home in the woods. It’s extremely comfortable and much larger than I expected. The forest is magical and everything went very smoothly. I highly recommend to anyone staying in the area.

    Dean2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful cozy cottage indeed! My girlfriends and I enjoyed a weekend of relaxation here, away from the busy city. We had to fight over who got to take a luxurious bubble bath first (wow that master bathroom is incredible—like a mini spa!). There were plenty of couches and chairs to sit on and relax with a book or journal. There’s even a guitar if you’re into that. Finding the location can be tricky at night with spotty reception and roads and homes that all look the same. So follow the host’s advice and print out directions beforehand!

    Christine2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • I think my experience was one like no one else's. To arrive in Mendocino after a 14.5 hour drive from AZ to discover that the power had been turned off by the power company for a fire 100 miles away was a bit of a shock. That said ... Vacasa was amazing and accommodated us with what they could control and it was truly a good experience! We did end up leaving early, but not because of anything from Vacasa. The home was beautiful and we will come back to have the vacation we planned! The detail and beauty of the home was incredible! The views and seclusion are amazing. I definitely do not hold what happened to my GF and I in October against them. It was out of their control but they were still awesome!

Looking for a unique experience? Welcome to my home in the forest. Enjoy the peace and quiet, hot tub under the stars, play the piano and walk the labyrinth in the meadow. You won't find another place quite like this. Great hiking in the State Parks nearby. Wildlife sightings are possible, yet you are just minutes from town. You have a suite of rooms to enjoy, books, art supplies available. Press the pause button on your busy life. Let nature nourish you. Check out my airbnb experiences!
As you wind your way down my private road, off the beaten path, you will find my three story country house tucked in the forest with trees all around. My seven acre property affords complete privacy from the outer world but the town of Mendocino is just minutes away. In the Forest Room you will feel like you are staying in the treetops. This is a private retreat. You will be the only guests here. I do have family visiting (not often) but they do not stay in your space. UNIQUE DESIGN ELEMENTS The house is unique, designed and built in 1979. Your Redwood Forest Suite is on the second floor of the house and has high ceilings and lots of light. There is a queen size bed, a desk, a comfortable recliner and a bookshelf with a good variety of books. My photos do not do justice to this room as it is impossible to capture the feeling of the vertical space that is part of the rooms design. SUITE OF ROOMS FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT You will have a suite of rooms, your bedroom, a room across the hall with hardwood floors, table and chairs, hand crafted by my great grandfather and a food prep area off to the side, with microwave, toaster, coffee maker, teapot and very small refrigerator. Just down the hall, you will have a PRIVATE BATHROOM with mexican paver tile floors, a big tiled walk in shower with bench and a six foot long claw foot bathtub. The solar collecting greenhouse for this solar home is adjacent to the bathroom through antique oak french doors. From the chair on the balcony of the greenhouse you can look out over the forest and meadow below. Deer wander by regularly and you might catch a glimpse of Mr. Fox and more! SEPARATE ENTRANCE There is a separate upstairs guest entrance. HOT TUB IS ALWAYS ON The hot tub is always up and running. Soak under a giant redwood tree while you wake up enjoying the sounds of the forest around you. Also nice during the full moon and on starry nights. The hot tub is extremely private, placed so that it is not visible from the house, no neighbors, just forest all around. YURT/ART STUDIO On my property you will also find a 27 foot yurt, surrounded by a ring of redwood trees. The yurt functions as my art studio and is the home of FOR THE JOY OF IT!, my expressive arts therapy practice. You can use the yurt during your time here when I am not using it for my work. It is a great place to relax, read, write, play the piano, or just enjoy the forest. It guarantees a fun evening after a day out exploring and is a great place to spend time on a rainy day. The art supplies are off limits unless you make a special arrangements with me for an extra fee. I work as an expressive arts therapist. I have written a book called Finding the Wild Inside: Exploring Our Inner Landscape Through the Arts, Dreams and Intuition. You can schedule a time with me in the yurt to explore your relationship with your artist within. I've dedicated my life to the belief thatwe are all artists. It comes with being human. Though artists love the yurt, it is designed for those who do not think of themselves as creative. You can turn your airbnb stay into a Finding the Wild Inside creativeretreat. Each retreat is uniquely designed on a focus of your choosing. Contact me for price and info.
You will be surrounded by forest but its just a 7 minute drive on a country road to the town of Mendocino, with its spectacular headlands, art galleries, shops and restaurants, close to Van Damme and Russian Gulch State Parks, twenty minutes from Ft. Bragg with more beaches, parks, a beautiful botanical garden (best in spring and summer) and more. There are beautiful walks right out your door that lead you through Jackson State Forest and to Big River State Park. The trails there are not marked but ask me and I can direct you. There is much to do and explore or you can just retreat in this beautiful little hideaway.
  • I'd give her 6 stars if I could! I've stayed here 3 years now and LOVE it. The place is so peaceful. Completely comfortable, lovely views of the redwoods, nice new hot tub (2020), close to town yet no road noise. Marilyn herself is so gracious and friendly! Just a lovely spot!

    Tiffani2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Marilyn’s place is every bit as great as the photos suggest. Beautiful surroundings, conveniently located 5 min from Mendocino town center, super clean, tons of recommendations listed in the visitor book, with thoughtful light snacks provided upon check-in. We especially enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub while stargazing. Thanks for hosting us, Marilyn!

    Olivia2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Marilyn’s home was everything we wanted and more! Would highly recommend staying here if you need a weekend getaway! To all artists: this is the PERFECT spot for peace, quiet and inspiration!

    Dominique2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Marilyn was quick to respond and a kind host. The house was very clean and both the tub and hot tub were a highlight of the stay. Highly recommend!

    Christopher2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Marilyn is a wonderful person and a superb host. She was a million times more helpful and generous than I had anticipated. The location is peaceful and Mendocino is a lovely town. Take a walk by the cliff and visit the chocolate shop in town! Thank you for a safe and pleasant stay.

    Ella2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Our fourth visit to Marilyn's now! It's always our favorite thing and anchor in Mendocino. The house and everything around it will calm you down, take you to a better place, and even after you return home, the magic will follow you :)

    Michelle2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Marilyn's place is great. A beautiful home in a quiet setting within dense redwoods, yet still close to town. She offers everything you would need. Sitting in the hot tub looking out at tall redwoods is very relaxing. Bed is comfy and bathroom is great. Marilyn is warm and her knowledge of the area is unrivaled.

    Ben2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so special—tucked away in the forest but also a quick drive to downtown Mendocino. Marilyn left a binder of recommendations for things to do in the area and was quick to respond to messages. Would definitely stay again!

COVID-19. Unless you are a health care worker or someone traveling for an "essential" work reason, we are unable to take your reservation while the shelter in place order is in effect in our county. Please send me an inquiry first if you are unsure if you meet this criteria. Thank you for understanding and please stay well. The space: Sweet, sunny 1 bedroom with kitchen plus deck overlooking wooded forest. Easily sleeps 4 people; there is one queen memory foam bed in a private room and two twin Murphy beds in the living room. It is very private, with plenty of parking. The apartment is spacious (800 sq ft), and detached, so very quiet. There is a full kitchen--great for cooking (you bring food, we supply the coffee!). There is also a BBQ on the deck. We provide bedding, towels, shampoo and soap. The apartment is on the second floor (but no one resides below, there is a garage used for storage), so you need to go up a flight of stairs. We are gay-friendly, tourist-friendly, pet-friendly, and family-friendly! Please let me know in advance if you have any special needs or requests to make your stay enjoyable. PET POLICY: As a dog owner myself, I welcome canine guests with responsible owners to the Tree House. However due to the additional cleaning time required, I now charge a fee of $20 per dog, which you can pay in cash upon arrival. Dog owners are respectfully requested to agree to a few simple rules: no pets allowed on furniture, dogs must either accompany you on outings or be crated, clean up dog droppings, and be prepared to pay for any damage done by your dog. Dogs can be off leash inside and on the deck but need to be leashed when walking in the neighborhood. We have a 2-night minimum policy, but you are free to request single nights during the winter or on weekdays and I will generally be able to accommodate you. Please note that we are not technically a tree house, but the deck and windows overlook our beautiful forest, hence the name. Plus, you are a two minute walk from the redwoods of Jackson State Forest, great for a morning run or evening stroll. We are a 5 minute drive from the Mendocino Coast beaches and the gorgeous botanical gardens. Enjoy wine-tasting, surfing, kayaking, or hiking at any time of year, or check in advance to find out which of the many festivals are happening before you visit (crab, mushroom, whale, film and music festivals, local history days, paul bunyan days, etc). We are about 8 minutes away from Fort Bragg, and are about 15 minutes from the village of Mendocino. We're about a 3.5 hour drive from San Francisco or Oakland airports. Santa Rosa also has a small airport (Alaska/Horizon main carrier). We are 2.5 hours from Santa Rosa. Check in is 3pm, checkout is Noon, but let me know if you need a later departure or earlier arrival, and if I can accommodate you I will. We have reliable wi-fi.
  • A jewel off the beaten path. The treehouse is a wonderful spot to getaway from the hustle & bustle of life. The freshest seafood just 7 minutes away from your door. Tons of places to hike weather by ocean or deep in the redwoods. Anne is a wonderful hostess! She gives you all the privacy you’d like, or there at the drop of a dime. If you like golf, disc golf , whale watching , or fishing this is the place to be! The community is very safe, and not the hustle of big cities. We love the treehouse, and will visit at least once a year. This is an excellent value for your dollar! Can’t beat it in my opinion 🥰

    Robert2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Just a great place to stay overall! You will not be disappointed

    Joaquin2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Anne’s place was the perfect, comfortable and quiet base for exploring the area. Main room is bigger and more comfortable than it appears in the photos, and we slept great. Tucked back in the woods in a very cool little neighborhood that we never would have otherwise seen. Easy quick drives to Ft Bragg, Mendocino and lots of unbelievably lovely sights. Easy communications and directions and a warm greeting.

    Alex2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Anne's apartment is really a wonderful place to stay. It had all the amenities I could have hoped for, the kitchen is so well equipped, if I had wanted to do real cooking everything was there! The place is cozy, feels supportive, is really well kept up and orderly, the decor is lovely. Anne was very helpful in greeting me and helping me carry all my baggage up the stairs. I highly recommend it and hope to return. Thank you Anne.

  • Anne has a delightful place to stay in a tree lined area of Fort Bragg. It is very nice for parents with a couple of kids. The place was very clean and Anne was very responsive to our communications with her. The place has one bedroom and a couple of Murphy beds. It has a nice kitchen area and a large bathroom with a shower and heated floors. It also has a washer and dryer to use. Great place to stay if want to go to the coast and have a quiet place to stay. I would recommend.

  • What a great stay! Beds were all comfy. Comforters were plush. Loved the heated bathroom floors. Shower is spacious and so relaxing after exploring Mendocino and Fort Bragg all day. Very absorbent bath towels. Great kitchen - we cooked breakfast every morning and there was coffee, creamer, sweeteners, and multiple spices in the cupboard. No need to bring bottled water! The water there is all well water and tastes delicious. I liked that there was Chromecast and I could cast Netflix from my laptop to the TV screen. It felt good opening the blinds every morning and be surrounded by trees. We got to meet Anne when we first arrived and she's very friendly and made us feel welcome!

  • This is a great space! I definitely recommend staying here, especially if you travel with your dogs like we do. It's in a great location, close to beaches, hiking and both Mendocino and Fort Bragg. The most unexpected treat in this space was the radiant heating in the bathroom floor - we loved it! There's also great wifi and you can stream shows with ease. If you're thinking about staying here - just do it, you won't regret it.

  • Just perfect for what I was looking for! Well appointed, tidy, cozy, and close to everything I needed.

A beautiful uniquely laid back bed and breakfast in the most quaint seaside town on the coast of California. We have 5 of these lovely "standard" rooms, all completely different. As we are a Victorian House, the rooms vary in size as well. But all are upstairs (except our ADA accessible room which is downstairs), All have a bathroom, shower and queen bed. Plus an amazing, home-made breakfast! Only a short walk away from the rugged Northern California Pacific Coast. Not your typical stoic B&B.
  • It was such a pleasure for Jay and me to spend a few days at Didgeridoo. Charles and Mary were delightful. Room #61 was cozy with a fireplace and hot tub. Where do I begin describing the full breakfast? All carefully prepared and cooked, abundant and delicious. Charles has fascinating travel stories, so be sure to ask. This is an Airbnb in the heart of Mendocino not to be missed. We will be back!

    Sally2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had an awesome stay at Charles's place. It's in a great location and was very clean. The bed and pillows were perfect for us and the tub was awesome. I really loved the breakfasts, which were yummy and meeting the other guests. And Charles gave us really helpful advice about local attractions and history, as well as a fascinating account of his travels in Nepal. The place itself is just a bit on the funky side here and there, so if you're persnickety it might not be a great fit, but didn't mind at all. In fact, we loved the place.

  • This is a laidback, charming, quirky place great for folks who don't need a lot of personal how-to instruction. Entry (at least when I arrived) was a key left in an envelope with my room number and other details (and a number to call, answered by someone who was super helpful and provided advice on where to grab dinner). Each room is unique (some 2nd story ones look like they have balcony space). Mine on the first floor had a massive 4-poster bed, a fireplace set to be lit, privacy curtains, tons of space and a bath with a clawfoot tub (and handheld shower head). Totally cozy and comfortable. The family-style breakfast (spicy oven roasted potatoes, mango scrambled eggs, blueberry pancakes, yogurt and wild-picked blueberries) was a great opportunity to engage with fellow lodgers and Charles, and led to some intellectually stimulating conversation. I wish I could have stayed longer!

    Macon2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Charles' B&B was wonderful. Fantastic location in downtown Mendocino, the room was nicely appointed and the breakfast was incredible! Definitely coming back!

    Dore2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The old Victorian house was charming. We stayed in a room with it's own bathroom and fire place. Drinking water was provided as well as firewood and kindling and breakfast! I enjoyed it.

    Miriam2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great lodging in Mendocino! Very pretty old house. We just stayed one night. Our room had a big comfy canopy bed, and a fireplace for heat. I was happy to see a fire tee’d up for us. Kindling and logs were in the fireplace, all I did was shove a tissue in and light it with the provided matches! The provided breakfast was really nice! Good coffee, scrambled eggs, potatoes and pancakes- all seemed fresh and homemade. I enjoyed talking with Charles, the host. This place is a great value in a good location. I won’t hesitate to stay again!

    Katie2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay! What a great location, across the street from the water and an easy short walk to the amazing bluffs, as well as town! Comfy room with great breakfast and friendly conversation with Charles as well as other guests. Look forward to returning again soon!

    Alan2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • The Didgeridoo is a quirky, quaint, and welcoming place to stay for a coastal getaway. I loved the old charm of the historical house, and Charles’ famous breakfast (fluffy blueberry pancakes, orange French toast, berries, yogurt, roasted potatoes, eggs scrambled with mango salsa, coffee/tea—yum!) It’s a 3 minute walk from the inn to the main shops, a 5 minute walk to the beach, and a 2 minute drive away from the most peaceful river kayak spot I’ve ever been to (Navarro River). We fell in love with Mendocino and we will be back to stay at the Didgeridoo again! Thanks Charles!

Our Quiet Meadow Cottage is located on the spectacular Mendocino Coast in a beautiful rural area just 1.5 miles from Pacific Ocean on 13 acres of gardens, meadows and redwood forests, with sheep and llamas next door on our quiet, dead-end, paved road. We are 5 miles from the fishing village of Albion, 12 miles from historically preserved coastal village of Mendocino (an art, wine and food lover's paradise) and 20 to 30 miles from Fort Bragg’s harbor, ocean fishing, whale-watching cruises, sand dunes, Botanical Gardens, the historic Skunk Train, two virgin redwood preserves, and many Anderson Valley wineries. Our guest cottage is clean, cozy and quiet with a queen bedroom, tub & shower bathroom, small kitchen, sunny deck with BBQ and recliner chairs, and a comfy, sun-filled living room (with 2 additional day-beds). No other houses are in sight (besides the owners' next door), hummingbirds, deer and wild turkeys frequent the meadow in front, nearby is a hammock and extensive flower and organic vegetable gardens you're invited to lounge in, and at night what you usually hear most is the distant ocean surf. Costs: During the off-season (Jan-March) it's $115 per weeknight and $140 for Friday and Saturday nights. During the high-season, April-Dec, it's $140 per weeknight and $160 for Friday and Saturday nights. There is a 2-night minimum, a one-time $50 cleaning fee and no other costs. (The county bed tax is already included in the list price.) You get a 15% discount for week-long stays and 33% off for a month. To keep the cottage fresh for all occupants, smoking and pets are not permitted. More photos can be sent to you upon request, and several photos of the property, garden and Mendocino Coast area can be viewed at the owners' home-exchange website, available at Quiet Meadow Cottage, spelled as one word, followed by a period and com. Note that we have a radio, CD-player, Smart TV, DVD-player and lots of DVDs, but not TV reception or cable. Cell phone reception works for some carriers and not for others. There is a phone in the cottage in case you want to give its number to family or friends, and which you may use freely for local calls. The internet is accessible thru a secured high-speed Internet connection. We also have a generator to provide electricity in case the power is out. The cold Pacific Ocean 1 1/2 miles away usually keeps our summer daytime temp below 80 degrees-- 60 degrees during foggy days-- and nights can go as low as 45 in summer and 30 in winter. Bring layers. The cottage is heated centrally by a Monitor propane heater whose thermostat you can adjust to your desired temperature. We provide all bedding, towels, bathrobes, hair-dryer, iron and ironing board, and numerous books, games, CDs and DVDs. Your deck has 2 recliners and a BBQ. The check-in time is 3pm, and check-out is noon. We do not provide breakfasts or meals. The kitchen includes a propane stovetop, mini-fridge, sink, microwave and toaster ovens, stick blender, toaster, coffee makers and electric tea kettle, plus sugar, salt & pepper, and usually some teas and spices. However, you need to bring your own coffee, cream and all the food you want to eat. Many restaurants are available in the area, and Albion village has a good little grocery store and deli. Driving directions are at the bottom. We will do our best to insure you an enjoyable time in the country. Tom & Sharon Comments from the guestbook: "Thank you for creating such a spacious, uncluttered, tranquil environment. This lovely cottage, deep rest, miles of quiet, and black nights all conspire to ease my wound-up nerves." "We enjoyed our stay and were very refreshed by the quiet, natural beauty nearby and deer and wild turkeys stopping by to visit from time to time. We loved our 3-hour kayak ride up the Albion River. We didn't see another soul but did see several harbor seals, river otters, cranes and hawks." "This is truly a special place. I was looking for a retreat and I found more... I found myself again. Thank you for creating a safe, warm space and sharing your incredibly beautiful property." "You have a truly magical world here and a cozy cottage to comfort guests. Being here in this enchanted forest is a true gift." "Thanks for this lovely space to rest and become restored. The nature, the quiet, the warm and sunny days have left us all softened around the edges." "This is my 5th time staying here in this cozy space. Your land is more beautiful than ever and the peace and quiet so supportive. The blooming wysteria was an extra delight, truly lovely."
Our immediate rural neighborhood is explorable via paths thru our meadows and woods and by walking on Middle Ridge Road, a little-used, dead-end, paved country lane. The village of Albion is 5 miles away and has a little grocery with wine selection & deli, a post office, hardware store, ocean harbor, beach, boat rental and 3 restaurants. Seven miles up the coast from Albion is Mendocino-- a historically preserved coastal village and an art, wine and food lover's paradise. Seven miles further north is the larger town of Fort Bragg, with a large harbor, ocean fishing, whale-watching cruises, 25 restaurants, sand dunes, Botanical Gardens, and the historic Skunk Train. Forty miles inland from Albion are two virgin redwood preserves and 20 Anderson Valley wineries. Albion is great base for hiking, biking, kayaking and exploring the beautiful North Coast.
  • This is the most cozy, lovely cottage, set in beautiful and quiet woods. It is well-appointed, full of plants (including the biggest monstera I've ever seen!!!), and perfect for a relaxing weekend away. We loved watching hummingbirds at the feeder, and sitting on the deck to enjoy the quiet. We're definitely planning on coming back for a longer trip.

  • I came to Tom’s place to meditate, to create and to simply enjoy some quiet solitude. The space was perfect for this. Even though Tom and Sharon’s home is right next door, it didn’t take away from the feeling of privacy. Quiet Cottage is indeed very quiet. It’s also very clean and contains everything you might need including WiFi. Also, the faucet water, which comes from their well, is delicious! There was a house sitter in their home when I was there because Tom and Sharon went away for a couple of days. I didn’t get to meet them, but it was easy to absorb the good energy in their space. These are obviously good and honest people. The value is excellent and I would definitely stay here again!

    Brenda2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay in the Quiet Cottage. The tastefully decorated interior of the cottage was perfect. The highlight of our stay was the surrounding garden. We could tell that a great attention to detail and expertise in landscaping were put into this magical gem of a spot. Two little deer even came to visit!

    Zachary2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect place to hang our hats during our stay in the Albion/Mendocino area. It is located in its own redwood paradise. You can hike just outside the door of the cottage. And, for longer hikes, there are plenty of hiking trails in the vicinity. The cottage is a fully functional unit. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Probably the nicest, hottest, most pressurized shower we have ever encountered. This place is a 5+.

    Stephan2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, quiet place in the forest with deers tiptoeing around at night. If you wake up early enough you can see the steam rising from the nearby flora.

    Matthew2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin was wonderful! The photos don’t capture all of its beauty. The drive to the cabin was scenic and peaceful. The cabin was clean, had helpful signs/labels/instructions throughout, and contained all the bathroom/bedroom/cooking supplies we could need. It was the perfect getaway. Tom next door stopped by to make sure we were doing well. He was friendly and great to chat with. Looking forward to coming back sometime!

    Jenny2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Tom and Sharon were excellent hosts! Communicative, friendly and helpful. They clearly communicated details before we arrived. The space was sparkling clean when we got there and, although small, had everything we needed and more. There were helpful little notes about navigating the new space, light switches, kitchen appliances, etc... There were a lot of local guides, resources, and novels to choose from the bookshelf as well as a DVD library. The property is beautiful and well maintained. You can tell they have poured their hearts into this little oasis. Location was remote, and although adjacent to their home, we completely felt like we were "away". Stargazing was mind-blowing. We took some wonderful walks in the neighborhood which sits atop a coastal ridge, nestled in redwoods and flanked by beautiful and deep river valleys. It was a short, 15 minute leisurely walk to view the ocean across some coastal pastures. Basic amenities in "downtown" Albion are a short 10 minute drive away as well as the drama of the Northern CA coast. We couldn't get enough. Mendocino is close, Ft. Bragg not that much farther and a ton of vistas, beaches, coves, cliffs and parks in between. If you're looking to reboot and recharge, I'd strongly recommend it.

    Colin2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful 2-night stay in Tom and Sharon’s quiet cottage. The whole package is 5-star, from Tom’s prompt and welcoming communication, to the cleanliness and comfort of the well supplied cottage, to the generous check-out time. The bathroom linens are nice quality and the bed is super comfortable. The BBQ works great. The cottage is on a lovely property with the hosts own home right next door. It’s a very peaceful setting and we’ll be sure to try and stay when we visit the area again.

Our cottage studio has lovely views of our walnut orchard, historic barn and fields. Enjoy sunset over the neighboring vineyards from your private deck. We are a mile down the road from a lovely State park, that is if you ever want to leave our tranquil little farm. Also nearby are wineries, hiking trails up a dormant volcano, and California's largest and oldest lake.
The cottage is a separate building detached from the main house with its own parking spot, entrance, deck, and fenced yard. Our farm is a little over 7 acres and is bordered by vineyards on either side, and a seasonal creek at the back of the property. We grow mainly saffron, which is harvested in the fall, as well as garlic, walnuts, and soon, olives and lavender. The studio has a kitchenette fully equipped for making light meals, and the living room area has a sofa bed that folds out to a twin bed. The living room area has a television monitor that you can use to watch your streaming media subscription on (Netflix etc), or our collection of DVD's and a collection of board games. The yard is also large enough to pitch a tent, if you have friends or children that would like to sleep outside. Let us know as there is an additional charge for this. We are happy to welcome guests with dogs and the cottage yard is fenced so that you may let your dog run and enjoy. There is a $25 charge for dogs which will be added to your reservation. You can see lots of photos of the farm on our website: peaceplentyfarm dot com
There are several wineries within a short drive of the farm, a lovely State park just down the road, Mt Konocti volcano with gorgeous hikes within 10-15 drive, and some great dining options in Kelseyville and Lakeport. As well as the lake itself, there is a reservoir that is good for swimming (and blackberry picking in the summer) we can direct you to, and the Blue Lakes, about 25 minutes north that are clean and lovely. Hopland is about a 25-30 minute drive away.
  • Adorable and very comfortable! You'll have a great time.

    Desiree2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a gem! Wonderful setting on a beautiful farm. Close to great hiking on Mt Konocti, and super close to town while at the same time it feels like you're really getting away from everything. Plenty of places to eat in Kelseyville or Lakeport. It was our second time staying here and hope to come back.

    Michael2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This has been one of my favorite Airbnb stays. It was very stylish and very clean. The farm store was adorable and I purchased some walnuts and lavender. There was even fresh, warm apple cider available. It was a very relaxing stay. Melinda was very friendly but also gave us privacy. The only disappointment was that most of the local shops and restaurants are closed on Monday’s and Tuesday’s. But otherwise, the farm itself was lovely.

    Veronica2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at the farm! It was short, but it was just what we needed. She had a nice porch to sit on first thing in the morning while you listened to birds chirping and had a nice cup of coffee. You have pretty much any amenity you needed in the guest house and it was nice and quiet. Melinda even made us fresh squash muffins the first day we were there! We would love to go back and take a tour of the farm!

    Denise2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Melinda and Simon's farm is such a special place. We had a great stay and enjoyed checking out the farmstand, and walking around the property with our pup in the morning. Can't wait to return!

    Katie2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn't recommend Melinda and Simon's place highly enough. The cottage is sparkling clean, has all the modern amenities (heat, hot shower, wifi, power outlets etc.) but also far enough from civilization that you feel like you are off the grid. They were extremely fast at responses, gave us a tour of the farm, super warm and gave a lot of recommendations on where to eat. I can't wait to come back during the saffron harvest season!

    Nikunj2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was great.

  • How to describe all the wonderful things about the Peace and Plenty farm? I'll just give you the highlights. A beautifully clean, spacious cabin with a fenced in yard overlooking the farmhouse and chicken coops. Walnuts, fresh eggs and so many song birds! A field of lavender right next to the porch. This is an organic saffron farm which is pretty cool and unique. Melinda is delightful, she has the cabin outfitted with everything needed to make you feel welcome and your stay as comfortable as possible.

  • Dr Frank and Judy’s cabin was even better than I expected; the photos don’t do it justice. The place is beautiful inside and out. My son, husband, and I are all at or around 6 feet tall and the beds and seating area were definitely not made to our taller scale but the full-sized bed was very comfortable if tight and the four of us (including my under 6 foot daughter) made the seating area work comfortably for us. Definitely take the tour. The only sour note on the trip for us was the fact that the hot tub never went over “bath tub” temperature and was too cold to enjoy at night. I did tell Judy and she had the housekeeper come out and check on it but she wasn’t able to do anything. I also was dismayed to learn that the doors don’t lock from the outside. We were able to lock up at night with us inside but it made me nervous to leave my belongings in an unlocked space when we left the preserve. Over all our stay was very relaxed and cosy, I’m already feeling nostalgic about our time there!

    Melaine2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Unique location, you can see the giraffes from the backyard. Glad we found it

    Sofya2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Staying here exceeded our expectations. It is truly a one of kind location. The cabin itself was wonderful, adequately roomy and the hot tub was welcomed after a long day of travel. Take the tour. You will not be disappointed and will definitely learn about the animals on the property.

    Beth2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful and rejuvenating time relaxing at the cottage! The place was easy to find and very quiet. The mornings had gentle awakenings with birds, the cottage held a lot of vintage details in its design, the furniture was comfortable, and clean and thoughtfully-appointed. We brought our own food in a cooler and had everything we needed to prepare meals, including the oven and microwave. Judy was very responsive and helpful, and checked in with us during the tour to make sure we had what we needed. It was really easy to walk to the quaint main street of the town, too. (Note for tall guests: My husband is 6' and he found the bed and couch a little short for lying down on, but it did not detract from our stay and he slept well. We both have back problems and felt well-rested.) We also took the tour and were very pleased to see the emphasis on conservation and behavioral science, as well as the partnerships that the preserve is actively pursuing. We are recommending it to our friends and definitely plan to return! (P.S. Another plus was there is a friendly cat on the property who will walk you back to your cottage in the dark!)

Located in a quiet, rural area and yet only a few minutes drive from downtown Fort Bragg and one mile from the beach, our beautiful private cozy cabin was completely remodeled in 2014.
Our secluded, cozy cabin is located just north of Fort Bragg near the end of a quiet gravel lane. The cabin is in a rural area and yet is just a few minutes drive from downtown and its numerous restaurants and galleries. Also just a few minutes drive are the Skunk Train, Glass Beach, the Noyo Headlands Park and Coastal Trail, MacKerricher State Park and Pudding Creek Beach. The cabin is close to the main house, but with a separate yard and entrance, so is very private. The accommodation consists of a large, light and airy sitting/dining room with vaulted pine ceiling. • We really enjoyed our stay in Fiona's cabin this past weekend. Had all the amenities we needed and was very private. Fiona was nice enough to meet and greet us and provide some information about things in the area. Bed was very cozy! Recommended if you're looking for a nice place to stay in Fort Bragg.

  • We loved Fiona and Neil’s quaint cottage in Fort Bragg. Excellent proximity to various points of interest in Mendocino county. The place was very clean, and check-in was a breeze. Would come again!

  • Very cozy space. The perfect location to relax and enjoy peace and quiet. Pretty close to the town and some amazing places and beaches. Would recommend to those looking to get away and chill out.

  • Such a nice little space. It was my first time doing airbnb so I didnt know what to expect. Fiona was wonderful, and gave great directions to her place, even though it was really easy to find anyways. The space is the perfect size for 2 people and is very clean. She showed us the space when we got there and I never saw her again the rest of the time, letting us enjoy our quiet and peaceful little spot. One nice thing about it is that she keeps brochures to food places and a list of other things to do in the area. I kind of got to fort bragg with only a couple of things on my agenda, so her lists really helped me expand on things to do. Thank you again fiona!

    Matt2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our cozy stay at Fiona’s cottage! Fiona greeted us warmly and made sure we had everything we needed. She even had a copy of a local newspaper so we could check the tide tables before visiting any of the nearby beaches - such an incredibly thoughtful touch! The space was beautiful, and we especially loved watching the hummingbirds on the porch in the morning. We were very glad for the tranquil escape for a weekend.

Cozy, rustic, cottage retreat surrounded by a forest of redwood trees. Fits 4 people comfortably. With a skylight, a wood-burning fireplace, a private hot tub, and minutes away from endless coastal trails, our cottage is the perfect place to unplug and recharge.
UPDATE: We are still accepting guests during the COVID-19 pandemic. No contact will be made between us and our future guests to minimize risk. Extra precautions are being taken, including intense sanitizing and cleaning before and after our guests visit the cottage. If you are looking for some quiet isolation come and enjoy our serene cottage in Gualala. Our cottage doesn't come suited with high-end amenities, rather we've decided to give it a homey and rustic feel. It sits surrounded by beautiful redwood trees and is conveniently located just a few miles from town and endless ocean trails. If you want to truly unplug and disconnect for a day or two or more...this is the place for you! Our cabin has... Privacy! A charcoal BBQ pit Abundant kitchen supplies: coffee maker, microwave, pots, pans and much more New stainless steel self clean gas stove A couch that converts into a sleeper bed for extra guests A reading nook Wood burning fireplace Private hot tub Plenty of room for RV parking and camping on property And, well-behaved pets are welcome! Home is 5 minutes from downtown Gualala where you can find grocery stores, coffee shops, flower shop, boutiques, post office, restaurants, and more. It is also in a perfect location to visit other charming coastal towns like Sea Ranch and Anchor Bay. Just a few ideas of what you can do while you're here... Visit outstanding restaurants, such as St. Orres Restaurant in Gualala. Enjoy a cup of coffee at Trinks, and surf the net with their free wifi. Their desserts are divine as well. Thirsty? Go wine tasting at the family owned and operated Annapolis Winery. Feeling active? Go surfing! Rent canoes and kayaks at Adventure Rentals. Go for a bike ride along the picturesque CA Hwy 1. Go hiking on one of the many trails along the coast. We love going on walks at Gualala Point Park. We were raised in Annapolis and Gualala and know the area very well. We would be more than happy to help you plan your stay.
The neighborhood is quiet. The cottage has two adjacent neighbors but you will hardly feel like anyone is around. The trees make the cottage very private.
  • Super sweet tidy little cabin - it was dreamy to sit in the hot tub under the redwoods!

    Maria2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • The setting is stunning and we had everything we needed for a relaxing mini-vacation in the redwoods. We would absolutely return in a heartbeat.

    David2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is a lovely, quiet getaway that's perfectly nestled in the forest right next to the ocean. I could have spent the entire weekend in the outdoor hot tub, but if you're able, pull yourself out of the cozy cabin to explore Point Arena and Annapolis Winery.

    Anna2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • It was peaceful and perfect for a romantic getaway. Was able to cook a beautiful meal for just the two of us. The place had all the pots and pans I needed to cook. The hot tub was very clean and relaxing. Overall it was a very sweet place.

    Chelsea2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful, serene setting! We enjoyed our night in this charming cabin and took full advantage of the hot tub - you really can hear the ocean waves from it! The big kitchen and living room was perfect for relaxing. We noted in the house manual that there was no shampoo/conditioner so brought our own, but Jen did provide bars of face soap and body soap in the shower. Would stay again!

    Quinn2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I, and our dog Tino, stayed at Jen's lovely rental 3 nights. We loved our experience there. The location is great, just in the middle of the woods, offering a very quiet and peaceful environment for a relaxed vacation. We enjoyed the fireplace and the hot tub. The kitchen has a good selection of dishes, cups, silver wear ,and appliances. Nevertheless, some of the pots are not in great shape. We recommend this place, and definitively we would love to be back!

    Diana2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great low-key spot to relax! The hot tub in the trees was outstanding, cute and cozy inside the perfect place to unwind. The kitchen had more than enough to cook a great meal, would definitely book again.

    Mackenzie2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing cabin surrounded by redwoods, with a wood fireplace, full kitchen, and porch with hot tub. We cooked, drank coffee on the porch, relaxed in the hot tub, and built a couple fires using the provided wood. It's a super short drive down to Gualala restaurants and the beach, and one evening we even walked to dinner (no sidewalks though, be safe!). Just north of Sea Ranch and close by to bluff trails. My only complaint was that the bed was not as comfortable as I would have hoped, and the couch was also a bit uncomfortable for me personally. But, all the other amenities and touches, along with a welcome bottle of red wine, made up for it. We would stay here again.

  • Wonderfully private, exceptionally beautiful, superbly clean, and uniquely memorable. The outdoor tub and beach access were particularly lovely. An all around amazing stay!

    Richard2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Tenaya is exquisite in the art of hosting-- everything about this place with thoughtful from the gorgeous muffins (as several have mentioned) to the stacked wood for the fire, to the fragrant and calm landscaping, the tranquility of the outdoor tub. Tenaya thought of every detail to make our stay the very best-- including routes through the dunes (what a truly special piece of coastline) to information on local history, hikes, food. I will certainly return to this peaceful well loved place in a quiet, sweet and exactly not crowded stretch of California coastline

    Leonora2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Tenya is the perfect host and Clara’s cottage the perfect escape. I needed a weekend away from my fast paced high stress life and Clara’s cottage was perfect.

    Caitlin2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Tenaya’s place is the perfect getaway. It’s quite, cozy and relaxing. The tub outside was by far my favorite part, there are bath salts, shampoos and anything else you need to enjoy the spa like experience. The walk to the dunes is only a couple minutes and then continuing on to the beach is only a little bit farther, once you arrive there the beach is entirely yours. You won’t see another person for hours. We will definitely be back.

    Julia2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second stay in Clara's Cottage and both times the experience has been superb. I love the garden and the brilliant stars, the peace, closeness to the ocean and best of all a lavender scented bath surrounded by fairy lights.

    Renee2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Have stayed at this place many times, very lovely. It was a VERY cold week and Tenaya turned up the water heater, so there was no problem taking a hot bath. It is definitely the best part about this place! Unplugging (no internet) and being close to the sand dunes, and soaking in the amazing claw foot under a big cypress tree.

    Angela2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • As soon as you arrive, you're swept away with a feeling of comfort and relaxation. The space Tenaya has created is endlessly picturesque and is now our favorite Air BNB we've ever visited. There's thoughtful touches everywhere, incredible amenities galore and above all, a sweetheart of a host with a wealth of knowledge on how to best enjoy your stay. Thank you for everything you do, Tenaya!

Simple cabin deep in redwood forest, with screaming fast wi-fi. Clean with rudimentary facilities (no bathroom – just an outhouse adjacent). Hot water at sink for sponge bath, plus hot outdoor shower, totally exposed to forest and sky, as a backup. New pricing includes mandatory 11% in local hotel taxes.
"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." Charming 250 sf wood cabin, with queen mattress in sleeping loft. Cabin is surrounded by several paths through forest acreage, alive in winter rains with matsutake, black morels, king boletes and chanterelle mushrooms. Cabin is 75 feet downhill from its own private driveway. The property is located near the end of a mountainous dirt road, on a coastal ridge, 3 hours north of San Francisco. CHAPTER 2: I got up early and bathed in the pond; that was a religious exercise, and one of the best things which I did. – Thoreau Evoke your own narrative experience of Thoreau's 2 years spent in a cabin near Concord Mass. You may not be jumping into the cold Pacific Ocean, for example, but you're only spending 5 nights! You can practice the art of the mini sponge bath at the kitchen sink. There is excellent hot running water in the cabin. PLUS you will gain the practical knowledge of another charming throwback to Thoreau's era –an adjacent outhouse. Although there is no 21st century bathroom/toilet at the cabin, private outhouse has had minimal use over the years. Path to and from privy is floodlit. Cabin is electricity (surge protected) and features small cooking stovetop and propane heat. Architect designed steel counter tops and wood cabinets. Some creature comforts (down blanket and Corbusier chaise), along with writing table, chair, ink pen, manual typewriter, ream of paper and small lit library. The geographical area features many hillside and coastal hiking trails, an historic lighthouse, restored movie theater, French bakery, library, and fine dining. Wine tasting tour, 1 hour by car, in the Anderson Valley (still free). The cabin is available for stays of 3-5 nights and will be undergoing a few simple upgrades in late 2014/2015. Come visit while Thoreau's cabin remains in its simplest incarnation, bargain pricing.
Fresh air, quiet surrounds. Young redwood forest envelops this cabin and property. Isolated, safe, protected and located 1.2 miles down a dirt road.
  • Great space. Quiet in the woods and a short drive to the coast. Plenty of good reading in Randall’s library. Perfect for a nature getaway. I would go back!

  • This place is a hidden gem. It's a small cabin up in the woods and has everything you need for a weekend getaway. There's so many wonderful books to read and is the perfect place to cozy up and relax. It's only a 10-15 minute drive down to Point Arena area but still feels very much in the woods and secluded.

    Katie2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a gorgeous cabin in the woods! Thanks so much to Randall for an absolutely fabulous weekend away :)

    William2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • I think the mark that any air bnb should strive to hit is making it so there guest never want to leave. This place nailed that for me. The bed in the loft gives you a sensation of sleeping in a tree house. The outdoor shower was the perfect way to rejuvenate the body after a long hike. The near by beaches provided plenty of beautiful coastal scenery. Can't wait to come back and get more writing done!

    Javier2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Loved Randall's cabin in the woods. The home is cozy, with many books to read. The cabin's heater worked wonderfully and kept me warm all night, even in February temperatures. I would highly advise against getting there after dark as it is very secluded and the map was a bit confusing but after finding it, it was a treat. A reminder that there is no bathroom, only an open outhouse but it did the job. Thanks Randall!

A large, private bedroom and full bathroom with a strong, full force shower head and tub in a lovely cozy home with ocean view, 4 minute walk to beach, and view of Caspar Bay. Fireplace, kitchen, central heating, internet, large screen dvd player, and two sunny decks available to guests. Breakfast provided consists of bagels and tea/coffee. Cell service is spotty; so, print a paper copy of the directions to my house, and if you will arrive late please call on a land line like in a restaurant.
The location is gifted with deer, squirrels, wild turkeys, owls, and migrating birds! The bed is brand new! It is located 4 miles from Mendocino Village and 5 miles to Fort Bragg, CA. It takes about 4 minutes to walk down the hill to Caspar Beach.
I love my neighborhood as it is very quiet, neighbors are friendly and there is no traffic. The walk to the beach takes only 4 minutes!
  • Rhoda’s cottage has an artistic flair in a relaxed and comfortable setting. What a comfy bed that gave us a good night’s sleep. We appreciated the special touches with flowers and the delicious bagels for breakfast.

  • If you're looking for quiet, relaxing, disconnected and refreshing place to stay, pick Rhoda's place. Located in beautiful off the map place, it has charm. This is a one bedroom with private bathroom across the hall. The home is shared with a wonderful, loving host who made us feel like family. Rhoda is an artist and her home is filled with amazing, one of a kind art pieces and collectibles. The home has two patio decks with seating. The one near the garden is small and relaxing. The other has a high table with a beautiful view of the ocean. Enjoy a glass of wine from one of the many Vineyards within an hour of her place. The room has a lounging couch, comfortable queen bed with a scrunchy, warm duvet. The room is oversized and provides the privacy we wanted. Cellular service is spotty which is great for those who really want to get away! Hot tea and coffee, bagels and fresh fruit were available. Rhoda was respectful of our time but easy to talk to. She has a lot of great places to eat and enjoy. We recommend North Shore Brewing, The Good Life for breakfast and Starbucks in Fort Bragg. Go to Mendocino for dinner, hiking, free whale and the museum, and pastries! I recommend Rhoda's home!

    Kris2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Rhoda has a wonderful space on the edge of the US continent. Very scenic and moving. She was a great host and I had a lot of fun. I'm sure I will return.

You’ll love the bright, open floorplan, remodeled kitchen, clean home w/ spectacular mountaintop views taken in while lounging, grilling, dining having cocktails & (heated) showering poolside on a 21 acre property good for hikes & picnics. Has 3-4 acre fenced in area perfect for pets! Home is great for couples, group of friends, families and kids, and pets. Deck hot tub for 6 overlooks scenic valley!
Please inquire about county restrictions currently in effect. Mar.2020 The house has an bright open kitchen floor plan with incredible views out panel sized windows and sliding glass doors. Perfect for seamless indoor/outdoor living on the 2000 sq ft south-southeast facing redwood deck with a pool, new hot tub, new gas grill and even a heated outdoor shower! A 6 person hot tub is on the deck overlooking the scenic Bell Valley is perfect in any weather. The spa is cleaned and treated regularly. The kitchen is a newly remodeled farmhouse style with new appliances and deep sink, and an island with a stovetop, designed for eating, having cocktails and socializing while cooking. Pool is a regularly cleaned and treated unheated pool exposed to direct sunlight almost the whole day with a solar cover. The pool is available for guest use all year long, but please be advised it is typically a comfortable temperature as early as April to well into October and depending on how hot or cold the recent weather has been and whether/how much it has rained recently. We do have guests that are willing to use it outside these months that are OK with the colder water temperature. Along with the hot tub, we do have a heated outdoor shower right next to the pool if you do decide to use the pool when the water temperature is cooler to heat back up quickly. Lovely Mediterranean plants dot the hillside next to the deck including blooming olive trees and lavender. Deck edge facing downhill is secured with fencing with other sides open to flat or gently-sloped ground or short set of stairs. There are steep hills once off the deck so small children will require supervision. There is a Weber barbecue grill at the house perfect for outdoor grilling and eating. Please be advised that there is a 400-foot long dirt and rock driveway up to the house, steep in parts, which can sometimes be intimidating for drivers not used to driving on rural dirt roads. It is smoothed and re-rocked every year and is accessible to normal front-wheel drive vehicles, without any difficulty November-May. However from June-October, the driveway can get dry and dusty, so vehicles without 4 wheel drive, may likely experience some tire spin driving up, plus cars will collect dust from the road. If you are booking for a time of year when the road will be very dry (typically June-October) and only have access to a front wheel drive car, we advise to book the house only if you are comfortable with experiencing tire spin or parking near the bottom of the driveway and walking or getting a ride up in a 4 wheel drive vehicle. So you know, our cleaners drive standard front-wheel drive sedans up the driveway on a regular basis all year including June-October without difficulty, so it is accessible for non 4 wheel drive vehicles but drivers with minimal experience on rural roads may be reluctant so again please be advised that you may experience tire spin while going up the driveway. We do provide additional guidance on driving up the driveway in 2 wheel drive cars (drive up with momentum, in low automatic gear, or even reverse up to avoid any tire spin given the better weight distribution) and are happy to answer any questions to prospective guests. You are always welcome to park some or all vehicles along the bottom section of our private driveway above lower gate for walking or shuttling a second car if you feel more comfortable only driving a four wheel drive vehicle up the driveway. Master bedroom has a king size brand new memory foam mattress, wall mounted flat screen with cable and Netflix. It has windows overlooking the mountains valley and a sliding glass door directly onto the deck next to the pool. The master bathroom has a shower and raised bathtub, with two separate sinks. The second bedroom has a brand new queen size memory foam mattress and direct access to the second bathroom with a window that looks onto the garden. There is a new queen-size Aerobed and a comfortable futon sleeper sofa for use in the very large sized family room for additional guests. The house has a new washer and drier, new dishwasher, and full cell phone coverage and high speed wifi internet access. The house is also stocked with books, games and some toys. If this house is not available the dates you are interested, or you would like a space with an additional bedroom or driveway without summertime tire spin potential, please see nearby the very similar 'Modern ecochic luxe getaway', which is the same distance from SF, has a very private 3 bedroom space on 40+ acres, also with a couple acre large fenced in area good for dogs, amazing mountaintop views of Bonterra vineyards and surrounding valleys and mountains from the house, outdoor hot tub and deck with views, easier driveway access and an open floor plan with expansive windows and indoor/outdoor living. PLUS the house is a beautifully comfortable, modern design home built by famous architect Michelle Kaufmann. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/28250268
The house is very private on 21 acres, with similar large acreage properties of friendly full time resident neighbors. Please be respectful to our close community of neighbors by not hosting any parties and by maintaining reasonable volume levels as sound does travel up and down the mountainside and valley. Within 5-10 minutes of the house, you can find excellent visitor friendly Mendocino County winery estates including food and live music in the Ukiah Valley. The town of Ukiah has great restaurants and weekly outdoor events in summer. The City of Ten Thousand Buddhas is a Buddhist temple and monastery nearby that is worth visiting. The house is also right off of Boonville Road which is a lovely roughly 15 mile drive to the adjacent Anderson Valley wine district. The quaint towns of Boonville, Philo and Navarro in the heart of the Anderson Valley AVAs have world class wineries specializing in pinot noir, chardonnay, syrah, and sparkling wines, as well as excellent restaurants. The pioneering craft beer Anderson Valley Brewery has a tap room and offers daily tours. There are several wine and other festivals throughout the year in the Anderson Valley and Ukiah Valley.

  • My husband and I and our two dogs spend a lovely winter weekend at the house. The house is very comfortable with all you need. The beds are super comfy. The location is fantastic, you are just a short drive from town and great wineries but once at the house you feel completely remote. It was too cold to use the pool but the hot tub was wonderful. The communication was super clear and Emir was available for any questions. PS - don't be afraid of the drive up the dirt road, we had no issue without 4x4.

Quiet and peaceful...feels very far away when, in fact, downtown Kville is just a mile up the road with with numerous wine tasting rooms, restaurants, brewery, and shops. Every Friday night, excellent live music in downtown Kville at Smiling Dog Winery and two other venues just 10 minutes away. EVERY Monday night "live blues" at Blue Wing Saloon in Upper Lake. Or you can bask in the glow of the fireplace or sit out and gaze at the stars in front of your outdoor fire pit !
The possibilities here are endless! There is recreation in every direction. Lots of live music and dancing, cycling, boating, roller skating, slot cars, horseback riding, dirt biking, hiking, golfing…it’s there waiting for you to come and enjoy! • The guesthouse at Helen’s was so peaceful, relaxing, and cozy. It was well decorated, the bed was comfortable, and she even assisted with getting the fire started to ensure you are warm and comfy. The bathtub was perfect for relaxation and the atmosphere and environment is perfect for meditation. In addition, If you are an animal lover, this is definitely the place for you! I’ll definitely come back!

  • Awesome little weekend getaway to a quiet small town by the lake. Helens place was accurate to photos and maybe even better than photos show! We loved the fireplace and she even helped start it and get it going for us. Coffee is always much appreciated anywhere you stay so glad to see that in the kitchen for the morning and the chips and garlic dip was awesome to check in to a little snack when we arrived! Comfortable big bed. Clean, really nicely done cottage. A few minutes away to downtown, we enjoyed the smiling dog’s winery and Kelsey creek brewery on Main Street. Also seeing the dogs and animals on her property was enjoyable!

  • The cottage is as beautiful as seen in the pictures. Secluded, peaceful, surrounded by nature & farm animals and yet fully equipped. I would recommend this place if you are looking for a quite getaway in nature. I would definitely re-visit in summer to enjoy the creek running in front of the cottage.

  • We had a wonderful time staying in Deb's studio in Mendocino. The place is comfortable and has a beautiful view of the ocean. Deb was available to answer any questions and made us feel right at home. We hope to stay here again whenever we visit Mendocino next!

  • The pictures didn't do the view justice. We visit Mendocino twice a year and have always wanted to stay at or very close to this location and it was as great as we knew it would be. The small yet super functional kitchen made cooking a meal a breeze (even had sharp knives!!). Would highly recommend.

Deb is a great host.
