Bed & Breakfast
A characteristic town house set over three floors located on the edge of a charming, piazza in the market town of Marsciano (Mar-shar-no) in Umbria. Centrally placed for Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto, Lake Trasimeno and surrounded by historic hilltowns.
With a spacious double bedroom with balcony and shower room on the second floor and a smaller bedroom (3/4 bed) and a cloakroom on the first floor, the space in this house lends itself ideally to a couple, or one couple + one other adult, or to two independent adults. A secluded roof terrace on the third floor off a spacious sitting room, gives plenty of opportunities to enjoy breakfast and evening drinks in outdoor privacy with lovely views over the old town. Situated on a corner among the narrrow streets and alleyways that are typical of the historic centre, the house is light-filled and has a double aspect in the well-equipped kitchen-diner. A small study on the second floor is useful for journal or postcard writing or it may help you jump-start that book! Please note that due to the number of stairs in this house, it is not ideal for small children or people with restricted mobility. The entire house with TV, washer (in garage) and roof terrace. An English/German/Italian-speaking house manager lives locally to meet visitors on arrival and for key handovers on departure.
Here you are in the heart of the town's historic centre inhabited by a community of lively working Italians. Many of the narrow streets and alleyways are not accessible by car and you will hear locals hailing each other from street to window, rarely using doorbells and knockers. In this friendly neighbourhood there are plenty of opportunities to brush up or practice your Italian with the locals. Situated on the edge of a charming old piazza with an ancient well at its centre, this house offers a unique opportunity to really immerse yourself in the Italian lifestyle and is minutes walk away from a range of shops, banks, quality restaurants and and snack/coffee bars. In the late afternoon and evening during summer months the little piazza becomes an outdoor parlour for the local women who bring out their chairs to enjoy the cooler temperatures and gossip. Meanwhile you will enjoy discovering something new every day in the maze of tiny streets surrounding the house. Be sure to check out the beautiful local ceramic work you will see in large urns and table tops displayed outside the church and the town hall. For a history of the town's famous brick and ceramic industry visit the Museum near the church. Local restaurants where you will enjoy great Umbrian cuisine are: 'Be Happy' Dinner/Cafe, Via XX Settembre, L'Oasi (road out to Migliano) and Rosatelli's, Via Ponte Nestore (opposite Famila Supermarket). And whatever you do, don't miss Stefania's Gelataria, Via Umberto I, (opposite Banca Popolare di Spoleto) for award-winning home-made icecream in dozens of amazing flavours. All of these are in easy walking distance of the house. A large, lively market takes place in the town's main square (Piazza Karl Marx) every Monday morning from 8am until 1pm. Public transport is good but sporadic. There is a train station about 3/4 mile walk from the house operating the small local train network (Ferrovia Centrale Umbria or FCU) between Marsciano and Perugia's (north) and Marsciano and Terni (south). Timetables should be constantly checked. Buses leave the main square in Marsciano several times a day with services to and from Perugia. This service takes the hill road with a pretty journey via neighbouring villages and offers stunning views towards the Appenines. However hiring a car is advisable if you are wanting to get around efficiently. A lift from behind the town hall, takes you from the historic centre to the lower town where there are supermarkets, shops and free parking.
