Just booked in Mérida

Soak in the "barefoot luxury" of the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Jungle House, on the slopes of the Maderas volcano on Isla de Ometepe, Nicaragua. Relax in modern comfort of high-speed ceiling fans, hot water shower, wifi, private balconies, and incredible panoramic volcano & lake views. Walk just 10 minutes to the Maderas volcano trail entrance, or 15 minutes to the center of the town of Balgüe! Ideal for couples, groups of adventurers, business travelers, individuals and families alike.
This "Volcano View Luxury Suite" at the Jungle House is part of Selvista Guesthouses, a "barefoot luxury" collection of jungle guesthouses on Isla de Ometepe. The island is a lush and tropically forested UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the middle of Lake Nicaragua, the largest lake in Central America. The house offers a comfortable and private lodging experience with direct access to the "jungle" of the surrounding tropical forest and organic permaculture farm. We are close to nature and wildlife here in this convenient, but remote, setting. The Volcano View Luxury Suite consists of the 2nd and 3rd floors, a completely separate space from the "Comfortable Suite w/Forest Views - Jungle House" on the 1st floor. ***Please contact me if you are interested in renting out both suites, i.e. the entire house.*** The entire space is a masterpiece of 2 years of hand-built construction by a local team utilizing local bamboo, wood, and stone. The 2nd floor features: luxurious Queen bed with mosquito net, laptop-friendly desk with chair, natural water filter, high-speed ceiling fans, hooks and hangers, hot water shower, double sink w/large mirrors, modern flush toilet, and private balcony. The 3rd floor features: futon, book selection, playing cards, yoga mats, hammock chairs, private balcony, and stunning panoramic views of the volcano and lake. Your stay also includes: secure wifi, daily housekeeping, farm-fresh breakfast, free parking (4x4 vehicle or equivalent required), full access to the open-air kitchen, full access to in-season farm fruits and organic greens garden, and a free 40-min tour of the farm property. *** NEED MORE SPACE? *** Check out the two other listings (identical to this one) on the same property: - "Luxury Treehouse w/Volcano View - Jackfruit House" - "Luxury Treehouse w/Volcano View - Mango House" Or these smaller, budget-friendly options, also on the same property: - "Comfortable Suite w/Forest Views - Jungle House" (first floor of this same house) - "Organic Permaculture Homestead"
My 1-hectare (2.5-acre) Selvista Guesthouses property features a total of 4 guesthouses with a central open-air kitchen. It is located next to a 9-hectare (22.5-acre) educational organic farm called Project Bona Fide. The entire site has been completely reforested over the past 15 years. You can find many trails, tropical fruits, plants, trees, butterflies, birds, and monkeys throughout the property. The organic greens garden above the kitchen features spinach, lettuce, oregano, basil, rosemary, amaranth, arugula, and hot peppers. The property at large includes chickens and ducks (enclosed area), pigs (enclosed area), coconuts, bananas, mango, jackfruit, breadfruit, starfruit, canistel, and many other exotic species to learn about and explore. From the house, you can embark ON FOOT to: - Tour my 2.5-acre farm property (40 minutes) -- FREE with your stay! - Tour the 22.5-acre Project Bona Fide property (2-3 hours) - Walk 10 minutes to Finca Magdalena to visit the coffee harvesting area, old hacienda, hostel/restaurant, and entrance for hiking trails - Walk 15 minutes to the heart of the town of Balgüe to visit local restaurants & bars, shop for basic groceries (Spanish recommended), or catch a public bus to Ojo de Agua or other parts of the island - Walk 25 minutes to Café Campestre, El Bamboo, Las Peñitas or any of the other local restaurants - Go trail running through the shaded cloud forest of the Maderas volcano - Hike a short trail on the lower slopes of the Maderas volcano to see 10,000-year-old ancient petroglyphs (1.5 hrs) - Hike partway up the extinct Maderas volcano to the "mirador" lookout point (3-4 hrs) - Hike all the way up Maderas to the lagoon crater (8 hrs; certified guide required) - Take a short bus ride across the isthmus to hike to the crater of the active Concepción volcano (10 hrs; certified guide required) - Treat yourself to a holistic massage, right in your house in the tranquility of the jungle! Local restaurants and small grocery stores in the town of Balgüe are a 15-25 minute walk from the property. After dark, from 6:30-9:30pm, the friendly Selvista security guard (Felipe, Luis, or Rudi) is happy to accompany guests along the unlit 5-minute stretch between our farm entrance and the well-lit, populated main part of town. Be sure to bring a flashlight or headlamp, as it gets dark around 6pm throughout the year!
  • We had an amazing stay at the Jungle House. Melissa and Erwin were super welcoming and helped us arrange all of the activities we wanted to do during our visit. We woke up every morning to the sound of howler monkeys and the breakfast provided was delicious. The place is beautiful and tucked away in the jungle, but still walking distance from great food and the town of Balgüe. I highly recommend staying here and supporting the work everyone does on this farm. Thanks for making us feel welcome!

  • This was by far the most awesome airbnb I've stayed at. The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. The property is stunning, and we felt very safe. The pictures are spot on. The breakfast made for us in the morning was fantastic, and there are a ton of cute restaurants only a short walk into town. They had a masseuse come on site to give us fantastic massages for only $30 for an hour. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone.

  • The volcano-jungle cabin was a great experience that is located in a secluded location on Ometepe. Get a full Nicaraguan experience with staying in Balgue, eating in an outdoor kitchen and enjoying the canopy views from the loft. A cozy location with hot water! Be aware of the road from Balgue to the location can be challenging. I had trouble navigating the road during a rain storm (road was muddy and got stuck a couple times). Prepare for an adventure or have someone drive you from the ferry terminal!

  • This house is awesome! Beautiful, clean and missy, he property manager is very helpful. Missy arranged all of the activities we were interested in, which was really convenient since we had a very short stay of two nights. She set us up with a great guide for hiking Concepcion. The guide was really knowledgable about plant life on the volcano and super sweet as he gave us his water when we ran out on the way down the volcano. Missy always answered her phone when we were stuck places and needed a taxi or just a suggestion of where to eat and she gave good ones! She even called a veterinarian to get info on bringing a dog to the States when a man offered us his puppy. I noticed people wrote about how many bugs there are, but it's really not much for being in the middle of the jungle. I got more bits on the mainland then staying at the Jungle house. The only downside is that the taxis that Missy and Chris provide are very expensive, similar to prices I pay in NY. Overall, we were extremely happy with our stay!

  • The host is absolutely excellent. Melissa and Erwing are charming and helpful. However, if you are not a nature lover, this place may not be for you. My girlfriend and I appreciated the place, but it was difficult to walk to and from town.

  • Wow, a true experience you must live out once in your life! We already miss all our great Jungle House host! Chris, Erwing, Melissa, Clemencia, Nerling; you folks are wonderful! Throughout our stay, the entire staff did such a great job on welcoming and accommodating us in every way they possibly could. Melissa was extremely responsive with her text and calls. She always answered her phone when needed, like when we inquired on further directions on how to get there or were stuck places when we missed the bus or a taxi. She and Erwing even brought us back some complementary cut coconuts we could drink from and make into refreshing cocolocos! They are a sweet and hospitable couple who gave us a good informative farm tour... Erwing is also a very patience man who helped me hold and feed a little piglet! But watch out, their squeals are extreme. :) When you stay at Chris's Selvista organic farm, you leave feeling you received exactly the luxurious and adventurous experience you were searching for, plus more! His Jungle House easily fit my 2 friends and I who fought over the top floor where you can swing from a hammock and stare out at the amazing view of Ometepe. Oh, and his pups are wonderful, too! That furry bunch is simply lovable and made us feel safe during the night as they slept right outside our doors. Each morning, we had a lovely free breakfast which Clemencia prepared with product from around the farm. She knows her way around the kitchen and how to brew up that fair trade coffee! We highly recommend staying at this incredible lodge- the location is a walkable distance to/from town, great wifi access, and nice hot showers. To top it off, we were lucky to have met Chris, who is an interesting guy that really seems to care about conserving the native land to the best of his abilities. We want to thank everyone who showed us a magical time in the jungle! We hope to visit again some day!

  • We stayed at the jungle house, which was amazing. Especially the wonderful view over to the volcano from your owm balcony. The accomodation is in Balgue. You have to walk up a bit trough a nice forest. The location is not directly in the center, but that‘s what we enjoyed. You feel like in the jungle, like in Paradise. From there you have plenty activities to to (Hike to volcano, waterfall el ramón, etc..). Christopher and Megan are very nice hosts and help you if you have any questions. Thank you!

My place is close to Public transport, Lake Nicaragua, Maderas Volcano, Sn Ramon Waterfall, Sto Domingo beach. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and big groups. You’ll love my place because by your stay you will support free elementary bilingual education to local children! Also because you'll enjoy amazing sunsets and great healthy food. You'll have direct access to a private marina (dock) for swimming and excellent fishing. More activities are available!
Since 2012 along with my husband, we created a free of charge elementary bilingual school to provide a brighter future and better opportunities to local children and to the local population. The revenues we get from our rentals provide our school sustainability.

  • We stayed at the Hacienda only 1 night but we absolutely loved it! Charming and peaceful place with an extraordinary sunset view. The food was also delicious.

I have created this space with love and I hope travelers can feel the soul of my place. My accommodation is pure and natural of island life and our food is very typical. It is the ideal place for all travelers looking for an authentic place and close to nature
  • Was a great hostel with nice host. We enjoyed it, its very closed to the waterfall. Thank you!

  • It was my perfect getaway, very peaceful and serene. It is right by the lake with views of both volcanoes. I was there for three nights and the entire family took care of me very well. The breakfast was delicious and every meal they make for you is prepared fresh from scratch. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet retreat.

    Ariel2016-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • I actually didn't spend much time at the place, because I just had 2 full days to spend in Ometepe. The place is very basic (brick wall room), just 2 electronis sockets and basic shower. I did expect something else, but I also was lucky that I was the only one in the room. Kayak rental for 10 USD is fine. Really nice village and friendly people around. I would not recommand to stay without a motorcycle. Bus is not regular and hitchiking can take a while (but is safe in my opinion). Staff is really friendly.

    Chris2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Nestor was extremely welcoming, he went out of his way to help me get there. There was a small issue of mismatched expectations, which he handled swiftly and professionally.

  • Amazing secret on Ometepe, buried within a local neighborhood on the waters edge with a beautiful view of the volcanoe. The rooms are small but not much time was spent in them anyways, so they did the job. Hammocks are strung everywhere making the place comfortable and enjoyable. The food is great, especially the freshly squeezed juices :). The owners and staff are also extremely friendly and willing to go out of their way to help you in any way they can. will definitely stay here again if we go back. Amazing find and memorable experience!!

  • This place was amazing. The private room was large and accommodating for many traveler. You are within walking distance of the beach and the most amazing restaurant at the Hacienda Mérida. Perfect getaway. Esther, Alvaro, and the staff showed my friends and I the beautiful culture and gave us a taste of the local Ometepe food.

  • Beautiful, secluded location in Merida. Room was simple with a nice bathroom. We were on the second floor and enjoyed the view of the lake. You can purchase food and drinks at a fair price. Staff is great and can help with scheduling transportation and activities. They can provide safe and reasonable transportation from the ferry to Hacienda Merida. We took advantage of the on site kayaks and explored the swamp with an amazing on-site English speaking guide. Great sunset views from dock. Owners do not recommend motorbikes because the roads are VERY rough and many tourists have accidents, but me and my boyfriend (he's a very experienced motorist) did rent a quad which was AMAZING because we got to see the waterfall, the natural springs, and San Domingo beach, and explore the country side all in one day. Last but not least, the bilingual school is very awesome and all proceeds go to a great cause. You can learn more about the school when you visit - you will be very impressed by their sustainability, resourcefulness, and passion!

  • I would highly recommend visiting Hacienda Merida!! We had a fabulous time! My boyfriend definitely had trouble without air conditioning in April (the hottest month to go to Nicaragua). If you are adventurous and love going off the beaten path, I definitely recommend it. The room is VERY large with a king size bed- there is a 3 piece ensuite bathroom. This room is the top floor of the owners home. They are a lovely couple with two children!

  • Esther and Alvaro are building something amazing. Their hospitality and dedication are unparalleded. They are open hearted and welcoming to all those that want to make the world a better place. Education and preservation of the resources they share with the Island are paramount. They welcome all those who are like minded or wanting to help.

Total privacy, security and willingness of their owners to help with anything the guests need.
Super quiet, away from the stressful routine of the city, surrounded by vegetation, few houses near the property allowing you to relax without noise ... and the best the breathtaking views towards the lake that can be appreciated from the whole property even from the bedrooms.

Finca Montania Sagrada lies in an open space at the foot of Volcano Maderas. The property is about 50mts above lake level, off the main road and quiet. Coming here is not for everyone. The short road (400mts) to reach our gate is stony and bumpy. Not all vehicles make it up. In the rainy seasons, May, June, September and October it becomes worst. Exploring the neighbourhood is best done walking.
At Finca Montania Sagrada we offer all new and comfortable accommodation. Papacito room is on the top floor of Casa Verde, a new green construction that matches the color of the nearby palm and trees. From it's balcony you have best view of the Finca Montania Sagrada and right next to the main hiking trail to Madera volcano. Papacito is a big double room with twin beds (possible 1 extra bed), private bathroom with hot shower, ceiling fan and electric kettle, big panoramic balcony with rocking chairs, table and hammock. All of our accommodation are placed in the middle of flower and fruit gardens. Breakfast is included in room price and dinner (Italian Pasta & salads) is at request before 3pm. Our Finca organizes horse riding tours of the Island with Hari's Horses. We also organize guided hikes to the volcans and kayak tours to the river Istian. We live with a variety of animals: horses (12), dogs of different kinds, cats and parrots which mingle and share our daily life. If you like to chill out in the middle of nature and animals our Finca is the place you're looking for. Also check our other listings : - Mamacita room....... king size bed - Cabana Beate, volcanoes view
From our finca you can reach the main road in 5 mins. There you can find a number of local restaurants, and little shops, also you can rent bicycles, motorbikes and scooters. There are a number of short and long hikes you can do. Exploring Merida is best on foot. In the dry season you can walk on the lake shore for miles. The road that goes towards San Ramon runs along the lake and you can explore little lovely, different and quiet beaches all the way. Nature here is amazing! Walking around you can see howler monkeys, squirrels and many different species of birds and parrots. There are also an incredible amount of old, huge trees. Hiking volcano maderas you walk through sub-tropical forests and rain forests where vegetation is unique. Merida is one of the most beautiful parts of the island, people here still live on fishing and agriculture.
  • This was one of the highlights of our holiday! The way from Santa Domingo to the finca is really rocky and is quite a trip but the reward is there: the finca is a beautiful place, the rooms are wonderful, the owners (+ animals) are lovely and the Italian food they make is perfect. Staying at the finca was a different experience from the rest of our trip: being there with the beautiful view and atmosphere was relaxing and special at the same time for us. Thanks!

  • Room was very clean. Staff was excellent and very accommodating. Would definitely stay here again. Thank you!!

  • We had a lovely, relaxing stay at Finca Montania Sagrada. The owners are friendly, the gardens are beautiful and the Italian food we had there was delicious!

    Frances2016-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Finca Montana Sagrada was great! We stayed 3 nights, and our host marilena was very accommodating. She helped arrange our taxi from the airport to the ferry and from the ferry to the finca. This place is truly off the beaten path and is on the foot of the volcano. The views from our balcony were gorgeous! The room was spacious, a fan and the night breeze were enough to keep us cool and comfortable at night. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. I would definitely stay here again!

    Angelica2015-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful property and great hospitality. The rooms are really nice and the view is exceptional. Breakfast was simple, fresh, and delicious. Dinner is also delicious with fresh pastas. This place is remote, but completely tranquil if that's what you are looking for. Would highly recommend!

    Natasha2014-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • WOW - we were completely blown away by Finca Montania Sangrada! We were looked after incredibly well in this beautiful eco farm. Definitely make sure you do at least one horse ride with Hari's Horses - Hari and Carlos ensured we had the most amazing ride through the forest, through coffee & plantain plantations and finished swimming with the horses in Lake Nicaragua. We also climbed Maderas Volcano which had incredible views from the top - the farm is located at the foot of the volcano so no excuse not to climb! Breakfast every morning was delicious and we had a wonderful dinner one evening for a small extra fee. We were recommended to visit Margarita's restaurant at the foot of the hill (a small 5 minute walk) which was incredible authentic Nicaraguan food for a very small price! We loved being amongst the beautifully looked after animals (horses, dogs, cats, parrots) and in such a unique, wonderful setting. We would love to return soon! Thanks again to all the owners - from Victoria Frost and Nicola(s)!

  • Nice place. Friendly hosts. Good staff. What more do you need?

    James2014-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • Ahhhh. Just what my mind, body and palette ordered. I rented the Papacito room and squeezed every bit of enjoyment out of my 2 days' stay. I was looking for a location away from the tourist traps and all the hub-bub. Finca Montania was certainly that. From Eric the guy who picked me up at the Ferry to Carlos who was my horseback riding guide (you must do this)....everyone was wonderful. The extras that only nature could offer like the fruit we "found" and ate along the riding path like mango and jocote were a nice treat. Speaking of food ,you can choose to eat there at Finca. I usually chose the breakfast there to get my day started and ate at the lake (good food and kayak rental both for cheap ) or the other restaurant at the foot of the hill for lunch or dinner just so I could try different places. I was never disappointed either at Finca or the other places and usually too full for dinner after a filling meal and a few Tona's. I didn't get to tour the volcano Merida but that was ok. I only had 2 days there and kayaking and horseback riding was enough rigor for me. Besides I didn't want to cut into my lazing around reading time. Ps. Get the massage too. It's nice the day after a horseback ride ....especially for a novice like myself. P.s.s. This location is in a rural area. So don't expect it to be sanitized from nature (it is very clean hygienic ally and they have HOT water). Meaning you will see bugs of many kinds, and hear all sorts of wild sounds. No lions and tigers and bears LOL. lSo it's not for the very squeamish. But the sounds let you know you are truly in a different place so enjoy. I will have fond memories and a few stories to tell.

It is a house near the lake. The room has good daylight and very clear electric light at night. We are in a rural community with access to restaurants close to home and is a good point to plan the activities that are done on the Island (kayaking, horses, bicycles, volcano climbing, among others). It is a very natural and relaxed atmosphere.
  • We spend 3 beautiful night with Ada(Esmeralda mother) and her grandson Bryan and Ryan, we have eaten with them and played with child...I want to thanks all of them for make us part of them family!

Work space with table. Amazing sunsets from the large porch. Easy walk to restaurants and small stores. West facing for amazing sunsets across the lake and views of Volcan Concepcion. Close to restaurants and small stores. Housecleaning, laundry services, cooking available - or do your own cooking in the private kitchen. Refrigerator, two burner stove, blender, coffee pot, pots and pans etc.
This is the heart of Ometepe. Merida is rural but with many tourist amenities and activities. The casita is on the lake at the end of a short dirt road off the main road. It is passable with a small car. Friendly people -a wonderful community!
  • A great place to stay if you love nature. There's a lot of it. There's a porch with a view across the lake, where you can sit in a rocking chair or swing in a hammock. Relax while watching pigs, dogs and horses walk by, parrots sitting in the trees and squirrels scurrying about. Cindi is great. Really helpful with advice and taxis. It made our stay much easier. She left us some freshly roasted coffee beans and local yoghurt. Merida is small and friendly- there are a couple of local restaurants which have really good, cheap food. A perfect place to stay if you want to relax and recharge your batteries.

  • Cindi's Casita is a perfect hideaway in a huge garden right in front of Lago Nicaragua. The location is perfect to enjoy swimming, the nature, all kinds of farm animals passing by, meeting locals, quite afternoons in the hammocks with a cooling breeze, the beautiful sunset and super quite nights. The Casita has three bedrooms, a big kitchen with all necessities for cooking, a dining place and a bathroom. On the back of the house is a sink for washing clothes. The best place to be is the porch in front of the house with nice views of the lake and volcano Conception. The main road is a short stroll through the woods away. There are some small pulperias with (very) basic goods. When we arrived at Ometepe, Adolfo (Taxi driver) took us to Pali supermarket before continuing to the Casita. We didn't meet Cindi in person but the conversation worked very well. Adolfo (Driver), Hamilton and Yossel (Housekeepers) are all very lovely and helpful at any time. The conversation with all of them worked very well too! We especially enjoyed our day tour with Adolfo even thou our Spanish is very basic and we couldn't talk that much it was a perfect day for us. We enjoyed our one week very much and highly recommend Cindi's Casita!

  • What a great little space right on the lake on the magical island of Ometepe. Cindi was great in helping arrange transportation. The Casita served as our home base for kayaking, volcano hikes, and other explorations. We were very happy and comfortable there!

  • Stayed here from New Years Eve through Jan 4th 2016 - can't recommend this place enough. House is spacious with a full kitchen and front porch has a wonderful lake view (perfect for swimming) with spectacular sunsets. Cindi took great care of us, even brought us her own home-roasted coffee for us to enjoy, and gave us lots of information for things to do in the area. Definitely bring a flashlight - at night the roads are pitch black save for a few spaced apart street lights, and the road leading up to the cabin has no light whatsoever. The area feels very safe though, so we never felt threatened. WiFi is very reliable, surprising given the overall rural atmosphere. Great place :)

  • The casita in Merida is a beautifully unique experience, a distance from the main road on a rocky pathway. The wind howls warmly and the birds and farm animals were our continual entertainment as we sat on the porch viewing the lake. Swimming off the shore was a delight each day. Several Nica restaurants are within walking distance. The casita is comfortable, but minimal. There was no hot water but showers were fine. Local pulperias (small stores) provided us with some fresh fruit, bread, cheese and necessities and we felt that we were part of the local atmosphere. Merida is quite a distance from the ferry and buses are few, so taxis are the best way to get to the casita. Our attraction was being right on the lake with less emphasis on elaborate accomodations.

  • Beautiful place! Perfect to chill out.

    Ross2015-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Cindi's casita had an amazing view of the lake nicaragua and we watched the spectacular sunset every night. The local staff Yossell and Hamitom were very nice and welcoming. They came right away when there's a problem in the house. The bed was comfortable and for two people, the house was spacious. There was no AC but the breeze from the lake kept us cool. The kitchen was spacious but had bare minimum equipments. The knifes were unusably dull and all the pans were pilling. The bathroom shower and sink had almost no water pressure, we ended up taking the bath with a bucket outside for the entire month. The road in Merida are unpaved and rocky with a few steep hills, it'll be a challenge to bike around. There are many small grocery shops which sells condiments and toilet papers..etc but it was hard to find much produce or dairy product. The power went out almost every day for a few hours. The wifi didn't work when the power's out, and didn't work well on somedays even with power. I think this casita is a great place for backpackers for a short stay who are going to be eating out most of the time, but it'll be a quite an adjustment for someone who's staying longer and actually live here for a few weeks. The nature here makes up for the hardship though: waking up with all kinds of birds chirping, monkeys howling, seeing neighbors' chickens, cows and horses and pigs roaming around the backyard. All in all, I had a great time in Ometepe.

    Robin2016-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Cindi is an absolutely amazing host! She responded to our questions/concerns almost immediately via email, and helped us to organize transportation to/from/around the island. The casita is very remote, and it's worth noting that the roads leading to the casita are very muddy/rocky, so biking in the area is tough. I would recommend renting a quad (not a motorbike! We had an accident in our group riding on the rural roads) for your stay, which will make it much easier to get around the island. Given the location, you can expect to see lots of critters both inside and outside the casita. We were greeted by free roaming horses, pigs, chickens, and howler monkeys each day! With the views of Volcan Concepción, this is a truly beautiful place to stay while experiencing Ometepe!

  • Amazing place. Truly made our Nicaraguan experience. Host were very warm, welcoming and informative. I definitely want to return to this finca and spend more time. Food was really good. Location was key, close to kayaking, hiking and lake.

  • Fernando's hostal, El Caballito del Mar, is definitely off the beaten path- it is a bit rocky to get there and fairly far off. The cabañas are pretty standard for the island, the bed was comfortable and we saw no bed bugs (can't say the same of other hostals based on other travelers legs). The water pressure is very low with no hot water, but that's pretty standard for the area. We opted for AC, which was definitely cold! Where this place stands out is the staff: we had a hike that was to start before the kitchen opened, but we talked to the ladies and not only did they ensure we had breakfast ready the next morning but they had lunch for our hike ready in a container. The meals available are simple but good- we enjoyed the traditional Nicaraguan breakfasts. They were also very accommodating of my boyfriend's diabetes and had him walk with them into the kitchen to show where they put his ice pack and insulin and ensure they were in the right place. Just FYI: everyone speaks Spanish here so this may not be the best place if you can't manage some basic phrases.

Finca Montania Sagrada lies in an open space at the foot of Volcano Maderas. The property is about 50mts above lake level, off the main road and quiet. Coming here is not for everyone. The short road (400mts) to reach our gate is very stony and bumpy. Not all vehicles make it up. In the rainy seasons, May, June, September and October it becomes worst. Exploring the neighbourhood is best done walking.
At Finca Montania Sagrada we offer all new and comfortable accommodation. Mamacita's room is on the ground floor of Casa verde, a new green construction that matches the color of the nearby trees. It's a big double room with a romantic king sized bed, private bathroom with hot shower. Ceiling fan and electric kettle Private veranda with rocking chairs, table and hammock. The room has a lovely view of the lake where you can admire fantastic sunsets! All of our accommodation are placed in the middle of flower and fruit gardens. We also organize guided hikes to the volcanoes and kayak tours to the river Istian. We live with a variety of animals: horses (12), dogs of different kinds, cats and parrots which mingle and share our daily life. If you like to chill out in the middle of nature and animals our Finca is the place you're looking for. Also check our other listings : - Papacito room with fantastic view - Cabana Beate, volcanoes view

  • Finca Montania Sagrada is a very special place. The views are great, the outdoor dining room has parrots and dogs and lots of cheer. (Be careful coming in at night, the big dogs jump and scratch so make yourself l known). Breakfast was killer. Order pasta and lasagna one night from Finca. It's delicious! We stayed in the first floor room of the blue house which hs a very comfy king bed and hot water. Tiny amts were taking over the bathroom, but harmless and it is a farm so, asi es la vida. The folks running the place have been in merida for 7 years and Hari had great suggestions for where to see hidden petroglyphs, which restaurants to just get a beer at and which to eat at, how to avoid turisty places and very accurate directions and activity suggestions (which is a rarity and much appreciated). Merida is a great town with less tourists and lots of monkeys but still lots of options so Finca is perfectltly located. Hari likes to run his horses and doesn't give much instruction so if you have experience and like to cantar he's your guy. Horses are well taken care of.

  • We loved Finca Montania Sagrada, our stay on ometepe was the highlight of our trip to Nicaragua. The location is a little more remote than some others on the island, but all the better for it! There was plenty to do nearby (bike hire, kayaking, volcano hiking, horseback riding) and the rest of the island was easily accessible by bus/taxi. We would highly recommend staying here - the room was clean and comfortable and the breakfasts were delicious.

  • Marilena not only arranged our travel to and from the ferry but also throughout all of Nicaragua, she was a great help throughout our stay on ometepe and in Nicaragua in general. Went well above what we expected. Our children (4&7) loved the grounds and exploring nature as well as loving on all the animals. Great hosts, great food, great experience.

  • We had a great stay at Finca Montania Sagrada! The drive up is a bit bumpy - would recommend all wheel drive or parking the car down and walking up. The cottage was perfect and the hosts were great. Had a very short stay so we did not get to enjoy the famous breakfast but everything during our visit was great.

  • Hari, Giovanni and co have a lovely place and are all super welcoming and helpful. It's a happy sort of chaos with all the dogs playing. We were really pleased we chose to stay here rather than in Moyogalpa. We were initially worried we'd be a little isolated, but although it is a bit of a shlep from the ferry, it's worth it. We got to see real island life and were mostly in the minority as tourists in the few local restaurants. Hari's horses are excellent. Really well trained and good natured. Suitable for all levels. I was the most experienced rider in our group and they let me go ahead for a canter. Most trekking centre horses would have hated going ahead like that, but Pipollo was an angel. Likewise, my husband, a nervous beginner, was well instructed and looked after, hanging at the back. The grounds are gorgeous. Double volcano view, and hummingbirds flitting about all the lovely flowers. The little veranda was a great place to relax, sometimes by nothing but the moonlight, which was astonishingly bright! We'd absolutely stay here again.

  • Sweetest people, absolute paradise with gentle animals, large garden, butterflies and a satisfying breakfast ... My 4 and 2 year old became immersed in the nature. Close to waterfall, kayaking and great restaurants. Pictures don't do it justice.

  • We enjoyed a wonderful stay at FMS! They were very welcoming of our family with 4 small children. Breakfast was wonderful. The staff was all very kind and helpful. They arranged for transportation for us from the ferry as well as to the nearby waterfall. We were provided with good recommendations for daytime activities as well as eateries outside of the finca. Hari's horses were beautiful and well cared for. Hari planned a horseback riding trip for our family and taught our 5 year old and 7 year old to ride in a matter of minutes. He selected excellent horses with the right personalities for each of our children. Katharina, who was helping with the horseback riding, was a huge asset for our kids too! Much thanks to Marilena, Mirca and Hari for a beautiful visit!

  • Ometepe is an extremely rugged island. Finca Montania Sagrada is a beautiful oasis within. The property is well-cared for and Cabana Ilse was actually more pleasing than what the pictures presented. It was clean and simple, but everything we needed for our overnight stay in the island. The breakfast was also very simple, but so fresh and delicious. Watch out, we did find a scorpion the morning after our (URL HIDDEN) just look around and make sure you are aware of your surroundings. Giovanni was communicative before and during our stay, no complaints there. Hari was a little upset that we cancelled our horseback riding tour in short notice (we were tired from our 3 hour ride from SJDS and they didn't let us know it was an issue when we asked), but I understood where he was coming from. However, my two friends were left with a little bad feeling after that. It was the only negative energy we got in Nicaragua and we stayed for a full week. I did see Hari down by the beach with a few horses and other guests. They all went in the water and it looked magical, so I'm sure the ride was wonderful. Too bad we missed it. Overall a good stay. Carita

    Carita2016-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This location is the nature lovers paradise! It was breathtaking. The ride from the ferry drop off in moyogalpa is about 45 min long but if you let mariellena know ahead of time she will have a taxi driver waiting for you. The trip is about $30. The first night I arrived after 3pm which is the cut off time to order dinner. However, Giovanni was amazing and cooked me authentic Italian pasta dinner which was phenomenal!!!! I recommend the pasta with bolognase sauce. Day two I chose to have a horse tour with Carlos who is their horse handler. We did a trip to San Ramon cascade which was difficult so if you are not a strong Trekker then do not walk it!!!!! Even strong Trekkers complained about it being difficult. In horse was the smart choice. You will still have to trek the final kilometer because the first six has a path the horse can traverse. The final kilometer is too slippery steep and dangerous to be on horse. Once you arrive at the waterfall you are gratified with the effort made to arrive. It's beautiful and refreshing. From there Carlos and I got back to the horses and took them to the petroglyphs which was also a wonderful ride through Merida and a great swim in lake Nicaragua as you see ancient petroglyphs that were once carved in the Ometepe era. Day three was a trip to Ojo de Agua which is like a Roman bath house. A natural pool with water flowing in from the top of the volcano. Please try coco loco! rum and coconut it's delish. Margaritas is another close option for dinner and their kitchen is great as well. As far as the rooms are concerned I had nothing to complain about they are beautiful surrounded by the sound of nature. Howler monkeys are heard through the night and the stars are a sight to see. I was fortunate enough to see two shooting stars. Wifi was being worked on during my stay but I had access while in the common area and in a place like this you are given the opportunity to unplug from the world and enjoy nature. So my lack of wifi didn't bother me. The wifi was in during the hours of 8am till 9pm and that was sufficient to accomplish what I needed. Being unplugged was therapeutic. The Italian group of friends who run this establishment were amazing. I felt like family from day one and would do this all over again if I could. I currently am in San Juan deal sur and I wish i would have extended to stay in Ometepe with Finca Monataña Sagrada longer. I loved their location, the rooms and cleanliness, the staff, food and best of all milli, naghual, DiDi, and all the other dogs-birds- cat and my favorite horse Puka!

  • Our time at the Finca Montania was wonderful. This was perhaps the most relaxing time in our journey though Nicaragua. So many beautiful plants and trees, and don't forget the views of BOTH volcanoes. Our hosts were great. Hari and Marilena were very helpful. Any questions we had about Ometepe, bus schedules, places to eat... anything really, they knew. Again, the atmosphere was very relaxing. Lots of little animals to entertain us. We particularly loved the kittens and parrots. I loved the Cabana Beate. It was our own little house. We sat on the porch and watched the sunset and just hung out in the hammocks. I highly recommend the Horseback Riding tour to the San Ramon Waterfalls. I had zero riding experience, and honestly was quite nervous. But Carlos, our guide, is an expert and made us feel safe. We had a great time. Also, I would recommend having dinner at the Finca at least once. We had pasta/spaghetti with mutton, salad, etc. Simple and delicious!

  • Our stay was absolutely magnificent. We were told most people only stay one night and that just isn't enough. If you're looking for a balance of relaxation and activity you need a minimum 2 days. ALL of the hosts are beyond kind and helpful with a view of both volcanos that cannot be beat. Highly recommended!!

  • The location and views from this spot are amazing. The room and guest areas were very clean to Nicaraguan standards. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our 2 hour horseback excursion on the island and we were pleased to see horses that appeared well taken care of. While the host were very good at arranging transportation to and from the ferry to their finca, the remoteness of this location makes some form of private transportation, (either a 4x4 or motorcycle) almost necessary. As with any stay in Ometepe I would recommend at least a couple of days to make the journey worthwhile. Prior to our visit we read conflicting reviews regarding the included breakfast and now we understand why. Our first breakfast was very good and filling and unfortunately set high expectations for the following morning. While the quality was the same, the portions the next morning were lacking. While the previous morning had included fruit, yogurt bread and eggs, the second day the eggs had been replaced with a few small slices of a plantain. In summary I guess plan accordingly. It's a beautiful, but remote location and I would have some form of transportation, some snacks, extra water and plenty of time.

  • Little piece of paradise for nature lovers!!! Imagine waking up by the sounds of birds, parrots, horses and dogs, chilling on a hammock right at your door, watching 2 volcanoes, mesmerizing your eyes with the beautiful green landscape, flowers and butterflies, enjoying the wind cuddling with your face ..playing with your hair and reminding you to enjoy each moment, be in the now, breathe & take it easy (-: Ohh..orgasmic ¡

  • We loved the cabana beate - it was clean, cute and a wonderful little spot in the beautiful garden. Our hosts were lovely and helpful in recommending how to best get around the island. Our horseback ride with Hari was great too. We loved our stay at Finca Montania Sagrada!

  • Marilena was very quick to respond to messages and helpful in organizing transportation. The cabin itself is nice with views of both volcanoes and a relaxing hammock on the porch. Breakfast is good. Hari was friendly. Loved all the dogs! The dinner is fine, but pricy compared to Margarita's down in the village. Water pressure was poor for part of the time I was there, which made it difficult to shower, but it worked after my volcano hike. I'm glad I went on the Maderas hike for the strenuous exercise though it was very rainy and muddy. Other than the volcano and the horses, there isn't that much to do, but if you want to lie on the hammock, ride the horses and climb Maderas, this would be a good choice.

    Mark2015-08-01T00:00:00Z

  • This was like arrive to a paradise. Daniel and his mama looked after about me like If I was part of the family. I wanted to stay only two days but finaly stayed the whole week. I enjoyed it here so much and there were so many thinks to do and see each day. Ojo de agua, Petroglyfos, I would recomend to do kayak tour where you can see many birds. Daniels mama cooked so delicious food nacional y internacional that I was looking forward always to try something new, fresh juices from fruits, local jogurt, local honey. It was culinary experience for me and definitaly the best food from the whole Niceragua. This part of ireland is acording my opinion the most beautiful one. Only 15min walks from Merida. You can walk, take the bike I did it without any problems. Acomodation has very hight level, honestly it was my best from Niceragua during the whole month so I sleped very well. I am sure that you cant find better place to stay. It worth to go !! Eva

  • We had a really great time staying in Papaki house with Daniel and his parents! After a time of intense travelling this was the best place to stay at for just to relax, enjoy the beautiful enviroment and cuddle with the dogs. It is located away from the turistarea. The room is great, a big bed and a bunkbed, high ceeling and light colours. The bathroom is with a shower, also great with towels included. Theresa, Daniels mother, is lovely. Our spanish is not that good and she, and Daniel, was very patience and helpfull with us, so the spanish improved a lot after staying here. Theresa prepared fresh juice for us every morning and her cooking is wonderful. Together with her and Daniel, we made our own mozzarella and had a pizzanight! And one day she made traditional dessert for us to taste, delicious! We made a lot of our one meals and the kitchen is fully equipped with all you need. Daniel was such a great host. He helped us with transportation on the island, gave us good info about where to go/eat and even went with us for a hike to the waterfalls! We liked everything about this place so much that we ended up staying five more nights! Oh and the dogs, Tango and Maya are so fun and sweet. If we one day go back to Isla de Ometepe, this is the place we would stay. We highly recomend others to stay here!!

  • Where to begin... Daniel's place was, by far the highlight of my trip to Nicaragua. It is a bit secluded but that's what I wanted. The kindness of his mother knows no boundaries. She cooks amazing meals from scratch, each day. She is a real treat. Daniel is very kind, always willing to help and answer questions. The room is large, the bed is so comfortable, the bathroom is also modern and large. The property is amazing. Hammocks, a few minutes from amazing sunset views, kayak rentals or volcano hiking. It is with a heavy heart that I left to continue my trip. Daniel's place is perfect! The dogs and chicken are real cute too!

  • Highly recommend, Daniel is a great host, ready with recommendations and help when needed. Daniel and Teresa made me feel really comfortable and at home when at there place and not out exploring the island, Teresa’s cooking is amazing with lots of variety for breakfasts and dinners. Both are happy to chat and share there knowledge on many things. I ended up extending my stay for longer than planned and I will be back!!

  • Daniel and his family were amazing hosts and I can’t thank them enough for all of the help they provided to help my friend and I on our trip to this special island! From helping us organize an ATV rental, to organizing a guide up Conception Volcano - this family was very helpful. This location is accessible by chicken bus, but I would recommend renting a scooter/ATV for the duration of the stay if you like to have the freedom to move around the island. Ometepe is HUGE and because of the road conditions things are spaced out. Having the option to eat food by Daniels mom was fantastic because it allowed us to relax in the evening and not have to travel far to restaurants. I highly recommend this Airbnb to anyone who is interested!!!

  • Great place to stay on Omotepe. Daniel and Teresa make you feel welcome and at home. The accommodation is big, clean, and comfortable - great bed. The house is set in a rural area that is peaceful and has lots of natural beauty and two lovely/friendly dogs. Perfect for families and others wanting to stay with locals in a different setting. The food was fantastic and highly recommended, especially after the long hike up the volcano. Daniel can also help and recommend things to do. I would not hesitate in staying here again. You could stay here for a long time. Home away from home. The bus journey takes 2 hours but for this reason the location is great for the volcano hike, kayak tours and the waterfall. Merida is 20/25 minutes by foot for food or other things.

    David2017-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The house and rooms are clean, Nice gardens around the house, and also pretty close to Kayaking. Our Host Daniel was amazing and always willing to help and make us feel like at home. I recommend renting a motorcycle or a scooter to move easily around the island (Costs approximately $25 per day). I definitely recommend this place and hopefully planning to return some day soon.

  • Great room and great hosts in a nice, quiet part of Ometepe. Close to huge waterfall, ojo de agua, petroglyphics, and more.

  • What a great stay. Nelly organised transport from the ferry to her place and has all the local contacts you need. She organised a local to rent us a scooter for a few days to get around. The trail up Volcan Maderas starts just 200m from her gate.

    Greg2018-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Nelly’s place was perfect for our group. Nelly gave great price suggestions for a shuttle from Myogalpa ferry terminal to her place (we stepped off the ferry and negotiated $4 pp shuttle for 5people) and this took about 35 mins or so to get there. The accomodations are rustic, but new and clean. The five of us were more than comfortable with the cabin. The shower just outside our cabin had the best water pressure we have had in Central America! Nelly was super helpful in organising activities for us. For $3 pp we opted for breakfasts and dinners there. The meals were hearty and delicious and Nelly was more than happy o accomodate for vegetarians and coeliacs in our group! Very much appreciated. If you want a rustic, honestly style experience where you can mix with the host, eat local style foods, stay here! If you want creature comforts, to be away from bugs and the elements, and to keep to yourself, you may not get all this place has to offer! If we can, we will return! Nos gustas Nelly!

  • Best hostel on Ometepe! Nelly's place is super cozy and feels like home- which is perfect for a tired backpacker/viajero like me. She offers great tips for every available activity on the island and in Nicaragua (bus routes, tours, rentals, hikes, prices, literally everything!). The staff is very friendly and talkative and I enjoyed countless conversations with them during meal times- which by the way were also fantastic.

Close your eyes and listen. It’s so quiet. Tropical birds are singing, monkeys howling, frogs croaking and the wind is whistling through the lush trees. Now, open your eyes. You see the incredible views of Conception volcano right in front of you, Maderas volcano is behind you. The abundance of colorful gardens, tropical flowers, fluttering butterflies and over a hundred fruit trees surround you. Breathe in the fresh air of Ometepe and feel the breeze from the hill. I welcome you to my place!
I’m located in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Maderas with a 2 minute walk to hiking trails from my property to the top of Maderas’s laguna. It is a wildlife and adventure lover’s paradise. I offer a very comfortable private cabin build especially for you on my 5 natural acres property where I do live. It is made of cob/adobe with oriental designs which give it an atypical and original touch, just like me. The cabin is 430 sq.ft (40m2) which naturally stays cool and fresh due to the cob walls. You’ll feel like you stepped into the Arabian Nights novel as soon as you open the rounded doors Each bedroom has a queen size ergonomic bed, built in shelves, screened half-moon windows, domed ceiling, hooks, hangers and a fan. In the small living room is a desk and a safe big enough to safely store your laptop. The fully tiled bathroom features a modern flush toilet, large mirror over a vessel sink, hot water shower, shelves and hooks, soft towels and complimentary toiletry. Because the house is made of cob and the floor is delicate, kindly remove your shoes while inside the rooms. The cabin has a large roof top terrace from which you can star gaze at the amazing night sky or relax in a hammock in the shadows of the protective trees. I made the choice not to have Wi-Fi. Don’t be scared, it’s good to disconnect from the world a few days and to connect better with nature. Breakfast is included with your stay and is offered in the middle of the garden.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Finca La Magia! A good place to relax and explore Ometepe island. Dan is a great guy and a great cook, we loved trying his tasty homemade products (such as jams, bread, peanut butter, coconut milk, granola and more!) playing cards and chatting together. The hike to the San Ramon's waterfall is a must if you're staying at Dan's place. Finca La Magia is the perfect place if you love nature and peacefulness, we definitely recommend it!

  • If you are a true nature lover! And love back country camping! This place is a luxury resort ;) It is an amazing place! When I got there Dan was out of the country but a local gentleman who didn’t speak English (I forget his name) was very welcoming and tried talking to me from a note book of words that he had (I don’t speak Spanish at all)! In 3 days that I stayed there, I like to think we become good amigos The internet was disconnected! Which it was the best thing to happen to me after breaking my cell phone! In short, I had a great 3 days of radio/internet silent and solitude. Oh! and the food! Amazing food! The lady who made the food was a true chef. All natural, all delicious food! Even if you don’t stay at Dan’s place, make sure to go there for at least a meal. Also ask for a fresh juice, homemade wine, jam, and cheese… I think I need to go back right now ;) The homemade bread is out of this world! I wish I could bring back home with me. Last but not least! When you get there just relax and enjoy it! You don’t need to do anything. You are there! Volcano, water and jungle, water falls in a short distance! I am going back soon, real soon.

    Moisen2016-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I stayed with Dan for a weekend and LOVED IT! Getting there was a little tricky because the roads are unpaved but once you arrive it's totally worth it! The property is beautiful and full of plants that provide tons of fruit and veggies that help contribute to delicious meals. The food was incredible!!! Organic, local, vegetarian and soooo yummy. It really made our stay extra special. Dan is a cool dude and we were lucky he was around to hang out and chat with. His son is adorable and we enjoyed his youthful energy. The spot is in the jungle... so it's max nature vibes, which is awesome- but make sure that's what you're looking for. And it's pretty remote (ie not close to a big town) but if your seeking a quiet gorgeous spot to relax- stay here!!!

    Lynn2016-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • This place is fantastic! We really enjoyed the great food, friendly hosts, and unique accommodations! It was really fun talking with the other guests at night and learning about cool things to see at the island! Also, the food was incredible! We can't wait to go back!

    Holly2017-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • It's a very special place.. It's in the middle of the wild, close to the waterfall and the trail up to Madras volcano. We recommend to rent a scooter or motorbike on Ometepe, because there are almost no buses or cars on that part of the island. We enjoyed our stay with Steve & his family a lot!! We would definitely come again!! The food was more than awesome ... The best vegetarian meals in Nicaragua!! I already miss the Granola breakfast :P

    Elena2017-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a rustic and secluded experience on ometepe island away from the bustle of the main town, dans place is perfect. His self built cabin has the most incredible jungle view and you can see the sunrise over the volcano. He has an incredible variety of organic and local foods as well as the most amazing hibiscus wine I've ever had. There is a compost outhouse and the shower has no light but if you do not require such luxuries and enjoy the experience in nature, you will love the environment. It's very close to some beautiful beaches and the entrance to a hike to a huge waterfall but the road is bad, so I recommend renting a motorcycle in myogalpa. Taxis and busses are also available but are expensive and potentially unreliable. Hope to go back again someday!

  • The place is absolutely beautiful. It's up a hill that is kinda challenging on a scooter but worth it. Animals and greens everywhere. Raining mangos from the trees. Amazing view of conception volcano in the outside dining area. Hammocks everywhere. Although BEWARE, the host charges a lot more on airbnb than if you pay on the spot. Communication with host and reception is rally bad, they didn't understand what airbnb was or that I had paid online already. Apart from that, this place was a steal for 23$USD! I fully recommend it if you can somehow bypass airbnb.

Also, there's about 10 different eateries within a 25 walk away. Our neighbors are really friendly and we are fortunate to live in a beautiful and safe place.
  • I am so glad I decided to book Finca Mystica over some of the other options I had narrowed down. This place was amazing and exactly what I wanted for my short stay on the island. We actually extended an extra night we loved it so much! Perfect, secluded location perched at the foot of Maderas volcano, excellent hosts and staff, comfortable beds and clean all throughout the property. Incredible value and the perfect setting to truly relax and unwind on vacation. We arrived after dark after an hour ATV ride. We were greeted and the staff cooked us a last minute dinner. BEST food I had all trip was here. The staff were the best hosts and the owners were extremely responsive and flexible. I don’t often vacation to the same place twice, but I would strongly consider coming back to Finca Mystica because of my experience here!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Set on the foothills of Volcano Madaras, near beach, hiking and restaurants in the village of Santa Cruz. Great for couples and small groups as we also have 3 other private bungalows on site. Eco-friendly option with off grid power, passive solar water, dry composting toilets, set above our laundry area. Share bathroom.
The Orchid loft room is a beautiful hexagon with a hand woven thatch roof and cob style walls to keep you nice and cool year round. The room is located over a laundry / storage area so access is through the bottom floor and up the central staircase. The staff has access to the bottom floor during the day to do the laundry, although they will respect your privacy to the utmost. The loft room measures about 400 square feet and has some of the best views on the property of the volcano and forest. It is not uncommon to see and hear monkeys on this stretch of land daily. This private room has a queen bed with an othopedic mattresses, mosquito netting, drinking water, shampoo and a share bathroom in an adjacent building about 10 steps away from the loft room. It really has what you need to be comfortable in the jungle, including 2 inside hammocks (one under a ceiling fan) where you can lounge around and read a book. The tropical climate lends itself perfectly to outdoor gathering areas nestled throughout the property and winding paths take you through gardens where you will find orchids, organic garden, goat and sheep pasture land and tropically forested areas full of a variety of lush flora and fauna.
We are located just after the split in Santa Cruz, the nicest place in Ometepe Island because of it natural beauty and access to the best restaurants and many things to do. This is a growing tourist hub for the island and offers many restaurants, motorbike rentals and is close proximity from the beach and kite-boarding school. Maderas Volcano begins from our back yard and we have guide friends that can you can hire to take you up to the lagoona or to see the vista from up above.......really magnificent! There are a million stars in the sky, funky cloud formations over the volcano and some super cool wildlife around our place and in the area. At different times of the year there is a vista of wild orchids on the property.

San Ramón is a small community that is located on the slopes of the volcano forest. The people who live here are friendly and it's a healthy place. We have a lot of wildlife and diversity. You can wake up bright and early every morning and enjoy some birdwatching, or have the pleasure to see howler and capuchins monkeys.
  • Best Place to chill out on the island. It is directly at the coast where you can enjoy the stunning sunsets with a cold beer. Also very close for the waterfall hike. The apartment was very clean and Jose Luis was very friendly and helpful.

  • Marjut and Zac are great hosts and provide you with tons of tips for your stay in Ometepe. Yoda is such a lovely dog and helped us when we were missing our own dog back home. The room was clean and nicely decorated. The bed has a mosquito net. Best breakfast on our trip to Central America! Marjut has the best kombucha I have ever tasted. Wifi was super fast and worked all the time. Marjut and Zac have a really good vibe and we enjoyed staying there. The garden is well kept and lush with lots of different kind of plants. Unfortunately we didn’t go horseback riding with Zac but it looked like everyone who went had a blast! 5/5 place to stay in Ometepe and we highly recommend this place for everyone. :)

  • This is a wonderful place to stay! The room is nice, the house is surrounded by a beautiful garden and Marjut and Zac are great hosts! The room you’ll rent is part of their house but it has it’s own entrance. Don’t let the bathroom being in a seperate building stop you from booking this place. It’s right outside and Marjut gave us a solar light to use at night. Marjut is very helpful and caring. We got lots of advise on where to go on the island and she did her utmost to get us the best deal for a canoe tour and transport. The overnight oats she served as breakfast are the best I ever had! And when we picked up a cold, Marjut even made us a nice fresh herbal tea. Yes, I would 100% recommend this place!

  • This is a cozy, lush and tremendously clean spot tucked away along the main road on which the major buses pass. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Marjut and appreciate her hospitality, warmth and consideration along every step of the way so much so that we stayed an extra night at the end. One night, before we set off on our bikes she made sure to lend us her headlamp to navigate the dark Ometepe roads. Our breakfast was delicious, thoughtful and generous which we enjoyed every morning overlooking her beautiful tropical garden. The place is located between two major spots- zopilote for yoga and el pital, a chocolate factory and stand up paddle with beach access 10 minutes away. There are also very affordable bike rentals at Doña Dora's 5 minutes walking up the hill. I've already recommended this spot to folks looking to stay in Ometepe!

  • Great place to stay!

  • Marjut welcomed us early with a wonderful smoothie! Marjut was super helpful in many areas including tips on how to best climb volcan maderas, and where to go out for food. She sells home made ice cream and kombucha from her home and shared some with us for breakfast. Her breakfasts' were very delicious and thoughtful. Her boyfriend does local horseback riding tours and we are able to ride the one morning at a very reasonable price. Despite more bugs than we were anticipated, we loved our stay here!

  • I had a feeling that Marjut’s place would be a good fit for me so I booked 3 nights. It more than met my hopes and expectations! The bed was very comfortable for quiet sleep and, on occasion, the soothing sound of rain on the roof. The room was impeccably clean and simply but tastefully decorated. The bathroom is only a few steps away from the covered veranda where I enjoyed ample breakfasts of oats soaked overnight, with fruits and homemade yogurt—delicious. It sustained me through two days of horseback tours into the glorious countryside and up into the lush forests of Volcán Maderas with Zacharias. For a lover of horses and nature, those rides were a highlight of my time in Nicaragua. I enjoyed Margut’s excellent kombucha on return and handmade mango ice cream. Marjut is a gracious host and was very helpful in planning activities and suggesting good food nearby. Both are warm and friendly. I enjoyed our conversations and appreciate their aesthetic in gardening and a conscious and healthy way of life. I highly recommend a stay with Marjut! And a horse tour with Zacharias!
