Enjoy the privacy of a secluded small, cozy guesthouse bungalow in the heart of Santa Monica's upscale Montana Avenue district. Apartment in Malibu
Idyllic, Romantic Beachfront Apartment in Malibu
Fall asleep to the sound of ocean waves in this charming beachfront apartment. The light, airy home features open-plan living and a wall of windows to maximize the amazing views. Enjoy drinks on the deck and a sunset over the water—it's pure bliss. This beachfront apartment is right above the sand and surf. At night the sounds of the sea will lull you to sleep. During the day, you can watch the sea lions sunning on the rocks and dolphins and whales swimming by or go for a walk along the water's edge and dive in yourself. This is an amazing place to have a glass of wine and watch the sunset and relax! In the evening, the lights of the "Queen's Necklace" glimmer in the distance and the moonlight shines on the water. The living room is cozy with two loveseats to snuggle in and watch a movie on the 50" flat screen TV. Three large sliding glass doors open up if you want to let the ocean breezes blow through. The kitchen is small but fully equipped with an apartment size stove and oven, a microwave, a Keurig coffee maker and a French press, tea kettle, toaster and all the dishes and pots and pans you need. A round table with linens provides a beautiful spot for morning coffee. The bedroom has a queen bed with a new organic mattress and designer sheets, pillows and duvet. There is a large closet with room to store your clothes. Books line the bookshelves if you'd like something to read. Mostly, this is just a quiet, beautiful space to put your feet up and really relax while watching the endless panorama of the natural world outside. And....if you want to feel like a movie star, the apartment was recently used as a glamorous setting in an independent film due out soon!!! Two-person kayak (life jackets available) Boogie Boards and a surfboard Television with premium channels (HBO, Showtime, etc.) Wi-Fi Shared entry gate with one other unit. My husband and I live in a small cottage above the apartment but the only shared space is the entry door. We rarely even see our guests. However, I am always available to answer questions or concerns but almost no one has them! Situated directly above the sand and surf, the home is in a residential area along the Malibu coast, away from the tourist areas. Take in the stars at night while strolling along the beach, or eat at one of the nearby restaurants right on the water. There is bus service available just a minute from the apartment that will take you into Santa Monica or the center of Malibu, or farther north to some of Malibu's more remote beaches. Uber is readily available. At high tide, the ocean may come right up to the seawall limiting beach availability. This all depends on the moon, the tides and the amount of sand that we have. This can really vary from day to day and depending on the season. This winter, rough seas washed away our private stairs to the beach, so guests need to use the public access stairs just a few houses away and a very short walk.

Guesthouse in Los Angeles
Casa Carmona, a Mid-City Garden Oasis near Museums
Casa Carmona is a little oasis in the big city. It's convenient to just about anywhere you would want to visit while in Los Angeles. Private entrance allows you to come and go as you please. Very diverse selection of restaurants and there is a 7-11 as well as a small grocery store (that delivers) less than a block away if you would rather eat in. Laundromat and dry cleaners are one block away which is helpful for longer stays. Street parking is available. Convenient to public transportation. Full access to the guest house and the backyard area including lounge chairs and dining table. I live in the adjacent house so am able to offer help during guest's stay. I love meeting my guests from all over the world but respect your privacy and comfort! Casa Carmona sits behind a charming Spanish house in Wilshire Vista, a neighborhood created in the 1920s. This is a diverse and safe area, within walking distance of Museum Row and the Grove. Plenty of free parking is available. Approximately half my guests rent a car and there is unrestricted street parking available except for street cleaning on Tuesday afternoons. The other half of my guests rely on Uber and Lyft which are always available within minutes. There is plentiful public transportation within walking distance. One bus stop is less than a block away on one major street and another the opposite direction a block and a half from the house. There is also a Zip Car location less than a block away. The main bed is full size. The pullout sofa is twin bed. There is a small fridge/freezer, microwave oven, 2 burner electric cooktop, and George Forman grill for cooking. Also have a Keurig for coffee and electric tea kettle and assortment of teas. There is a end table that is gate-leg so can be used for in-room dining. Folding chairs in closet as well as extra folding table in closet. Hair dryer in bathroom. Plenty of closet space. Two luggage racks. Iron is provided. I also provide a beach blanket, tote and towels for excursions to the beach. For relaxation time at the Casa there are plentiful entertainment options including Amazon Echo, TV with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, many movies, PlayStation and several board games with even more available upon request!

Your guide to Los Angeles

Introduction

Los Angeles is the ultimate insider's city, as first-time visitors quickly discover. The sprawl of strip malls and apartment buildings can seem anonymous and daunting until you consult friends or online guides who can direct you to the city’s electric cultural and artistic life. Los Angeles’s racial and ethnic diversity make it one of the most exciting culinary destinations in America, whether your appetite leads you to Korean, regional Mexican, or Persian food. One day may bring you to Venice Beach or the Santa Monica Pier for a stroll, and the next day on a strenuous hike in Topanga Canyon. Downtown Los Angeles’s art museums attract global attention for their forward-thinking collections. You can also spend several days walking — yes, walking — around Silver Lake or Beverly Hills, dipping into boutiques and stopping at cafes.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Los Angeles

Idyllic weather is one of the reasons Los Angeles became the film industry capital, and you can count on heat and sun for most of the year when you’re on vacation here. There’s a reason so many Angelenos wear sunglasses and carry water bottles.

After a hazy month of June (the locals call it “June Gloom”), LA’s hot season lasts between July and late September, when the average daytime temperatures are in the 80s Fahrenheit. Spring and fall deliver weather that is slightly cooler, but still pleasant enough for short sleeves and light clothing. December through February is the rainy season, when the lows can dip into the 40s. Your consolation is seeing the city’s gold hills turn bright green.

Top things to do in Los Angeles

Griffith Park

Los Angeles’s biggest park is more of a district, with more than 4,000 acres of trails, attractions, and serene picnic spots. You can wander around the famous Griffith Observatory, the backdrop to dozens of famous movie scenes, or bring your children to the historic Merry-Go-Round carousel. The western edge of the park includes several steep trails climbing to the Hollywood Sign.

Hollywood Walk of Fame

You’re more likely to see a celebrity at some vegan cafe in Silver Lake than here, but the frayed glamour of Hollywood and the Sunset Strip still exerts its charm. Check the schedule to see if the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre is offering tours and screenings, or wander along Hollywood Boulevard, looking down to see whose famous handprints are pressed into the concrete.

The Getty Center

Half of the reason people take the tram up to the Getty is for the museum’s art collections, which favor Greek and Roman statues and European paintings from the medieval era through the 19th century. The other is the setting: You can spend an hour or two meandering through the cultivated gardens, admiring a landscape that stretches to every horizon.
