Places to stay in Lealholm
Very small tiny little 1 Bedroom cottage in the heart of Yorkshire moors, with many original features . Comfortably sleeps two. Perfect for a little getaway with no phone internet or television. Pub over the road, lots of walks and activities in the Moors National Park. Seventeen miles to Whitby and the coast. Please note the cottage is very small the living room is 2.75mX 3.4m with a kitchen 2mX1.14m. Bedroom is 2.8mX 2.65m. Please note ceiling height to beams in bedroom is 1.88m.
The cottage is 260 years old and still has many of the original features including; stone floors, beamed ceilings, wooden spiral staircase and bare sandstone walls. This is not a holiday cottage it is my home when I am in the UK is very quirky so it lacks some of the standard holiday cottage features, their is no microwave, shower, internet or television. The kitchen is tiny but well equipped to cook basic meals. The cottage is tiny, possibly the smallest on Airbnb. The stairs are very narrow and steep, because of this the cottage is not really suitable for people with limited mobility, the elderly or couples with a baby or children. It is a perfect base for couples with a sense of adventure and a young outlook wanting to explore the moors and escape technology. Please note because of the small size we cannot accommodate children or pets.
Castleton is a beautiful village in the Esk Valley, it is in the centre of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. 20 minutes in the car or 40 on the train will get you to Whitby and all of the delights it has to offer. Fish and chips, the seaside, shopping etc. Drive a bit further and you can come to Scarborough or York.
  • This cottage is tiny, but it had everything one would need to enjoy a short stay in the North York Moors. The heating unit on the first floor made the space super cozy, especially when you're surrounded by shelves and shelves of books! And the small kitchen has the basics you would need to cook anything you may buy from the Co-op that's only a few doors down from the cottage. Parking in town is pretty easy as long as you have a small enough car. Even with our larger Nissan vehicle, we were able to find a place late at night. The bed is extremely comfortable, especially with the heating pad turned on. The bath water also warmed quickly, and the windows on both floors provided extremely pleasing light during the morning and afternoon. Everything about this place is a relaxing and quiet getaway. And our walk down the block to the tea room in the morning was very cool too! So many kind people in this town and across all the towns in the Moors. You can't pass up the opportunity to stay in this historic house (around 200 years old!). And the booklet that James provides on the history of the cottage and the town is very good too! It really helped me appreciate our short stay even more.

  • James' father was welcoming, flexible and accommodating of our requests. The cottage was cosy, clean and completely perfect - just what we needed and wanted! We only wish we could have stayed longer. We were so impressed and will definitely return again. We will be recommending the cottage to everyone!

    Sophie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • James's place was beautiful and we throughly enjoyed our stay there. There was plenty of information about the area and the cottage itself, we found it very cozy and a pleasure to stay in. We will most certainly be back! Thanks Jemma and Mike

  • This was my second time staying in James's lovely cottage - a perfect place in a friendly village with both wild and picturesque surroundings to explore.

    Elspeth2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • James’ “tiny cottage” is absolutely perfect for a base to explore Castleton and the Moors. But for anybody who loves social history it’s even more of a gem! Despite its size it has everything you need (except WiFi and phone signal- but not a problem for us) and a great pub on the doorstep. Clean, cute and cosy, plus James’ dad was incredibly helpful and informative when we arrived. We will definitely be back! Thanks so much ⭐️

  • Brilliant little cottage from bygone era. You can really get the sense of life throughout the past two and a half centuries and little it changed up until quite recently. Great little taster for any 'Tiny house' enthusiasts.

The space is a reclaimed game larder dating from the late 1800's which has been lovingly restored and repurposed into a cosy and comfortable chalet. There are two beds, one upstairs in the loft and the other a sofa bed which folds out downstairs. There is a kitchen block complete with cups, plates, glasses etc. as well as a wood burning stove, mini fridge and television. The toilets and showers are a short walk away and are shared with the adjoining campsite.
The Game Larder was bought for the local shooting estate around the turn of the 20th century by Sir Francis Ley. Made of cedar wood and manufactured by the firm Boulton and Paul, the building spent most of the last century forgotten and unused in the woods until it was relocated a mile up the road and turned into something altogether different! We set the Game Larder facing down the Esk Valley and directly across from Danby beacon. The views are fantastic and the sunsets can be truly spectacular. The decking outside provides the perfect viewing platform to enjoy the scenery. We provide a small fridge, electric cooking hob, kettle, utensils, and a toaster, there is also a large fridge and freezer in the shower building. The bed is upstairs in the loft area but there is also the option for a sofa bed downstairs instead. The extra charge is for bedding and towels but you are more than welcome to bring your own sleeping bag, pillows and duvet instead. There is a TV/DVD player, as well as books, games and dvds. Lawnsgate Farm is a traditional sheep and cattle hill farm and there is also a small campsite opposite. We have Scottish blackface sheep and Galloway and shorthorn cows. We also have three bulls which are kept up in the shed during winter. The toilets and showers are in a converted building 20 metres away and are shared with the campsite. There are also washing up facilities, washer/dryer, and a freezer.
We are very lucky to live in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and be only a 20 minute walk away from the pretty village of Lealholm. The village boasts many amenities including a good pub, great shop, post office, garden centre and tea rooms. Towards Danby is the National Parks Moors Centre which is a must for anyone wanting to get acquainted with the area. There is also a bike hire place and cafe in the valley of Fryup which the Game Larder looks over. The area is amazing for walking and I am happy to help you out with any questions or suggestions for nearby walks. Further afield is Whitby which is about a 20 minute drive away. There are many traditional moorland villages to explore all within a 30 minute drive including Rosedale, Goathland, Farndale, and Grosmont. The beautiful fishing villages of Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay are also well worth a visit.
  • Amazing place, easy to travel too. Aidan is a fantastic host, really helpful with quick response. The area is really pretty. We went during lambing season. It was a cuteness overload. The cabin itself is real cozy, comfortable and warm with real nice touches throughout. Aidan has a couple amazing cats, really friendly and the back cat with white socks loved to spend time with us, warming up in front the log fire. There’s a small community pub with an open fire and good food. We really really enjoyed our time here and it was tough to leave in the end. If you want a weekend away to get way from it all, this is the place to go! I couldn’t recommend it more.

    Lewis2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The Game Larder is a gorgeous, tiny home made very cosy by its log fire. We had a gorgeous 1 night stay here to unwind from work. It is a perfect break for couples and we couldn’t recommend it more! Thank you Aidan for a lovely stay, and for being a super relaxed host. We will be back!

    Beverley2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • The cosy game larder is a great little get away for anyone who wants away from busy life to take in the views and peacefulness. It’s so cosy containing a lovely log burner. It has all you need there for your stay. Aidan and Ella are lovely and leave you to enjoy your stay but are around if you need anything.

    Kirsty2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location, Aidan is welcoming and took us to meet the animals even though he was so busy calving. Log Burner was hot once going and fab to have with a snow storm! Visited Board Inn in Village - book as it’s busy and food is fantastic especially Sunday Lunch.

    Linzi2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I had a lovely 2 night stay at Aidan’s farm. The little lodge was stocked with everything you could need, it was super cosy and the log fire warmed it up nicely. We were there during Storm Dennis and felt secure and warm, it was great being on the moors during the storm with the winds hammering by. Aidan was kind enough to show us the Lamas, sheep and introduced the cats. Being animals lovers we were more than happy for one of them to join us for cuddles in the lodge. There are some great little pubs near by, we ate at a pub in Castleton which was amazing. We would definitely stay here again, Aidan was a super friendly host and provided us with some fresh eggs from his hens, bonus!

    Jenny2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely quirky little place, the fire was a life saver and a nice cosy tough

    Joe2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Cracking place in a great location, we were allowed to make ourselves at home from arrival and get on with our stay. Aidan was great checking in on us to make sure were sorted. Location was exactly what you would want. Rural and quiet, a good escape. Plenty of villages are in driving distance with Whitby and the coast 20 minutes away The hut is a cosy place with a great interior. Homely and warm. Once the wood burning stove is away it's the perfect place to relax. Kitchen block is stocked well and the sleeping arrangements are well though out and comfortable All in all a amazing experience, would highly recommend and will definitely be back again and for longer next time !

This unique 18th century fisherman's cottage in unspoilt Staithes is a stone's throw from the pretty harbour, tucked away up one of the many narrow ginnels. The wood burning stove ensures a cosy stay - perfect after a bracing cliff top walk!
Originally a fisherman's house built in the 1750's, Hillside is chock full of original features and character; rafters, beams and of course wonky walls. The wooden staircases wind through the building and up to the huge attic room - a great place to watch the telly, play games (old and new!) and generally relax. The well-equipped kitchen was hand-built by a local craftsman and it's a great space to not just cook; the wood stove is in here so it's a really toasty place to have breakfast in the winter (and I actually prefer to work in here - there are infinite distractions, chatting over the stable door being one of them ..)
Staithes is one of the prettiest and most interesting fishing villages on the Yorkshire coast. It's full of hidden corners, narrow cobbled walkways and whitewashed cottages clinging to the steep hillside. Generations of families have enjoyed bucket & spade holidays on the beach, but you won't find any commercialism at all; it's a charming, friendly time-warp community. There are three good pubs and half a dozen cafes, all serving home made cakes - you'll never go hungry!
  • A lovely cosy cottage in a fab location.

    Hayley2020-02-19T00:00:00Z

  • Absolutely fab place to stay, central to Staithes, a cosy, comfortable oasis of coastal bliss

    Andrea2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful cottage in a beautiful village - fantastic log burner to keep the place toasty warm on those chilly December nights - made the place soooo cosy! Staithes is a wonderful place to visit - great to visit in winter as it was so quiet and away from it all - perfect - and perfect place to walk the Cleveland Way....

    Patrick2019-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully presented arty cottage with tons of character and charm. The location is brilliant and everything was just as described. We'd definitely book again. Amanda was a fab host.

  • What a beautiful little cosy cottage this is . Packed with character and charm and beautifully furnished. Lovely and warm, clean , well equipped and a quick walk to the pub and the beach . The beds are lovely and comfortable which is a must . The underfloor heating in the bathroom was great when getting out of the roll top bath . Kitchen is well equipped and a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by next to the stove. I would highly recommend this house and look forward to returning. Staithes is such a lovely place any time of year .

Wavecrest is an idyllic place to stay and has been created with comfort, fun and relaxation in mind. There are great sea views and plenty to satisfy all ages within our home/garden and close by....with the added bonus of the beach being a stone's throw away!
  • We are a family group of different ages. We rented Susan's place to celebrate a 70th birthday. The house was sparkling clean and there was plenty of room for all of us. The location is fantastic. We had a lovely walk on Runswick Bay despite the bad weather! We would definitely return.

  • Great place for a special occasion. So much space both inside and out in a wonderful location!

    Mark2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful spacious house with a lovely garden. We stayed here with 7 adults and 3 children and there was still enough space without feeling on top of each other. The children enjoyed the variety of toys provided and the playground and trampoline at the bottom of the garden. The house is close to the beach but the way there is very steep, however, it can be accessed by car and there is a car park. Communication with the host was very helpful and quick. I would highly recommend the house.

    Stephanie2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place to stay in, four adults and three kids. The house is spacious, has everything you need and more . The garden is amazing and the children loved the playground and trampoline. Susan was wonderful and easy to communicate with.

In the beautiful North York Moors National Park, just a mile and a half from Grosmont, terminus for the heritage railway and 5 miles from Whitby, Partridge Nest Cottage was converted from a traditional sandstone farm building in 2000. We have recently renovated it, opening up the ground floor, adding a log burner, new kitchen and a stripped wooden floor. We have also added a large walled private south facing patio with an uninterrupted view up the valley side to the moor top.
Experience England’s history and nature ‘in a nutshell’ in the North York Moors National Park – where peace and beauty rub shoulders with a rich heritage and a warm welcome. The National Park is one of Britain’s treasured places, established in 1952 to protect 554 square miles of magical moorland, ancient woodland, secluded dales, historic sites and a stunning Jurassic Age coastline. From rolling panoramas and big skies to enchanting forests and idyllic dales, there’s a sense of peace and tranquillity here that’s hard to beat – and all just 20 miles or so north of York.
  • Partridge Nest Farm was sparkling clean with lovely decor - everything felt so clean and high quality. We enjoyed looking at the photographs of old Whitby around the cottage. The kitchen was well-equipped and the downstairs bathroom was ideal for our two little girls. We were made to feel so welcome by Caroline and some lovely treats left for us and our dog when we arrived. Thank you.

    Gemma2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cosy cottage. Our host was so thoughtful the little touches really made it for us. A great place to use as a launch pad to the beautiful Yorkshire Moors.

  • Love place. Warm and cosy. Great base for exploring North Yorkshire . Views are brilliant. Lovely treat bag for our dog Stella.

    Trish2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • A pretty cottage in a glorious setting. Caroline and Gavin have worked hard to produce the best of both worlds: a fabulous rural retreat with mod cons! The kitchen and bathroom are recently upgraded, the beds are super comfortable and the patio is wonderfully peaceful. Everywhere is super clean and the treats ( for both humans abundant dog) were much appreciated. The location, close to the start of the North York Moors Railway, and within easy reach of the coast, was great, with wonderful scenery and lots of great walks. We will be back!

    Sue2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage with beautiful surroundings. Within short drive of Whitby and local shops/eateries. We loved getting away from it all and relaxing here. From chilling on the patio with a book to cozying up by the log burner. Great hosts and accommodation. We'll definitely be back.

  • Beautiful location. Food looked amazing but we only had a great dessert. Hosts were friendly and helpful. Allowed us to do laundry which was so helpful. The room was a very cozy, as stated. It was a little too small for my husband as there wasn't really room to walk around bed or place a suitcase. Wasn't a problem for 1 night. The treats were much appreciated.... Along with the tea was chocolate and shortbread cookies. There was so many thoughtful touches that staying there was special. The room temp was very warm. Maybe because it was above kitchen? An open window was used and cooled the room off.

Near Whitby , North Yorkshire, United Kingdom

This self contained holiday cottage offers a chance to get closer to the workings of a family dairy farm. It is situated in the North York Moors National Park, midway between the moors and the coast and just a fifteen minute drive (or slightly longer bus ride) from Whitby. The accomodation is unusually spacious for a one bedroomed cottage, it is light, warm and very well insulated but don’t forget there is the potential for noise and smells from the farm!
This holiday home is a one bedroomed cottage on our working dairy farm. We are on the North Yorkshire Moors, only five miles to Staithes and the coast and ten miles to Whitby. The self contained accomodation is all on the ground floor. The very large living area has a kitchen in the corner with a fridge and freezer, breakfast bar and table. There is a seating area with a television and DVD player. There is one bedroom with a double bed. The cottage has its own front door and you can park just outside. The cottage has a small back garden with open views of the countryside. We live next door and are generally available to assist in the unlikely event that any problems arise. Our farmhouse is a Grade II listed building and it was built before 1750. The attached cottage is in the former cow byre and it retains the original beams. It was fully renovated in 2012 and has the benefit of double glazing and underfloor heating. The farm and buildings are quite ‘green’. We have two ground source heat pumps and much of the electricity we use is generated on the farm by solar panels and a wind turbine.
The farm is in a small hamlet with about a dozen houses. A footpath runs through the farmyard and it is possible to walk down to the coast and up onto the moors from the house. There is a garage and a tea room in the hamlet. Unfortunately at the moment our village pub is closed for refurbishment so is only operating as a tea room. However other pubs are available in neighbouring villages. We are ten miles from Whitby and five miles from Staithes. The National Park Centre at Danby is also five miles away. This is a great place to learn about the history, geography and wildlife of the local area.
  • We lived our time here. It is a very spacious and comfortable space, it had everything we could need, and the folder with local tips was very useful. We want to come back already!

  • We had a truly wonderful & relaxing few days stay. This was our 2nd visit to this charming cozy cottage & we cannot thank Barbara enough for her help, tips & hospitality.

  • A great location within easy distance of Whitby. The accommodation is warm, spacious and very comfortable. We particularly enjoyed the wood-burning stove. Our first trip away since becoming parents and we couldn’t be happier. The hosts were very accommodating and were even able to provide a play-mat for our 4 month old.

  • Beautiful, clean, warm and cosy. Great views and and fantastic location

    Lou2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time staying here for 3 nights. The cottage is spacious, warm and comfortable, and in a good spot for exploring the moors and the coast. Barbara also gave us a little tour of the farm which was very interesting!

  • What a gorgeous cottage! We absolutely loved staying here. The cottage itself is warm, cosy and clean, and the location is perfect for exploring the North York Moors. Barbara provides a lot of useful information about the surrounding area. Scaling Dam is a short walk away, which has a circular route to run or walk around. We loved exploring the area by day and returning to Barbara's cosy cottage in the evening to cook and relax. Highly recommended!

The Forge is perfectly located near Staithes on the Yorkshire coast for exploring the stunning coastal villages and towns, and relaxing on beautiful sandy beaches. The Forge is a stone built cottage positioned in a peaceful, secluded location along a farm track, just three miles from the picturesque village of Staithes on the Yorkshire Coast . It boasts of breath-taking, panoramic views of the sea and surrounding countryside, which are best viewed from the bedrooms and dining area. It has recently undertaken a full refurbishment and is a modern two bedroomed cottage with two bathrooms and open plan living area, complete with underfloor heating and a log burner. Patio doors from the dining room open onto a decking area with garden furniture, where you can relax and enjoy the spectacular view whilst dining alfresco. The Forge provides an extremely high standard of accommodation for families and couples and welcomes a well behaved dog. We apologise that we have not yet got any more photos of this property as it still undergoing renovations but we will put them on as soon as we can.
Grinkle is just 3 miles from the fishing village of Staithes with its quaint shops and has strong links to Captain Cook and his maritime history, traditional pubs serving home cooked food and a beach. The famous Cleveland Way twists and turns along the coastline dropping down into some wonderful bays and coves such as Runswick Bay and Robin Hoods Bay and there are plenty of cycle routes across the area and a cycle hire shop in nearby Saltburn-by-the-Sea. The bustling town of Whitby is a short drive away with its myriad of shops, pubs and restaurants. Famous for its abbey and links to Bram Stoker’s Dracula there are plenty of things to see and do in the town and regular events and festivals throughout the year. The North York Moors are nothing short of spectacular and well worth a visit with many National Heritage Sites, walking routes and villages to enjoy. Beach 4 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile. The Forge can be booked together with Sea View cottage to provide accomodation for up to 8 guests. Originally an open ‘Forge’ we have created a ground and first floor unit of unique character and feel. There is an open plan modern well equipped kitchen/diner with patio doors opening out onto a decked area perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine in the evening. A lovely bedroom with twin beds and a shower room alongside forms the rest of the ground floor area. Underfloor heating throughout the downstairs gives it a lovely cosy warm feel. Upstairs the living area with fabulous lob burner and quality furniture really makes you feel at home ideal for unwinding after a hard day exploring the area. A luxury second bedroom with en-suite bathroom including toilet and washbasin completes the first floor.
This is a quiet and traquil location yet still well situated for visiting beaches
  • Had a great stay, it is extremely comfortable and equipped with everything needed. I would definitely book this place again.

  • A really lovely house - modern and well equipped. We had a phonecall on the day to discuss check in.

  • A cosy cottage kitted out to a very high standard. Handy location for Staithes, Whitby, Saltburn and the North York Moors railway and good network of paths from the cottage. Be aware that the road is a bit rough and parking fairly tight. The bathrooms are cosy but you do have 2. The view of Boulby Mine was a surprise, but other directions have lovely views. Overall, we loved it.

Great little 2 bed property on a nice street in Carlin how.Perfectly situated for walks down to skinningrove beach and exploring the cliffs to Saltburn and Hummersea. Being on the Cleveland way there is lots to explore. We are a dog friendly property (to respectful dog owners). Main bed room double bed. Carlin how is a very small close knit community. The houses are predominantly terrace houses that were for the miners and steel workers.
In Carlin How there is a chip shop , and a couple of shops , but the neighbour villages and towns of Loftus, Saltburn, Skelton all have bigger supermarkets and eateries
  • Me and my three boys love the space and the location. It’s refreshing to have a great size fridge and freezer. Internet was very good. The rooms were full of interesting little touches.

A private and secluded off-grid reatreat complete with BBQ area, fire pit, a compost toliet and stunning views!
Our Yurt has been lovingly designed to be both beautiful and practical. In the middle of the Yurt is a kings size bed and round the sides is a bistro set, dresser and drawers, a butchers block for everything kitchen related and of course a windy smithy woodburning stove. The power is provided by solar panels and there are four USB ports which you can use. Immediately outside the Yurt is a woodchipped area. There is a fire pit, water tap, bistro set and also a covered BBQ area for cooking at. The compost toilet is a short walk away which is lit with solar powered fairy lights at night time. The Yurt is situated inside of an old hill called Parks Howe. This was quarried out in the late 1800s for stone for the local roads and thus created a large hole with no occupants but the rabbits! The views from the hill are spectacular and you can see both ways up and down the Esk Valley as well as overlooking the moors. The showers are a five minute walk away across the field at the farms campsite. We do have hot water at a sink next to the compost toilet.
  • Great place to get away from it all. Pictures don't do it justice

  • Another Fantastic stay at Aidan’s. We’ve now stayed in both The Game Larder and The Yurt. Can’t fault either. The amenities available to use at The Yurt are fantastic! Great BBQ and incredibly comfy bed, along with a cosy fire. Unfortunately due to not having the best weather we were unable to make the most of the fire pit but a great excuse to return again. Stunning views of the moors, in a quiet and secluded spot. Highly recommend either of Aidan’s places to anyone. Above and beyond helpful host, who will go out of his way to help. Lovely bottle of wine and fresh eggs from the farm for breakfast were an added touch!! Can’t wait to come back in the summer when the weathers a little nicer to take full advantage of the moors!! Thanks again Aidan for a brilliant stay!!! :)

  • The yurt it’s very secluded and private, it’s great for a few days away! Loads of places nearby to go for a walk. Would definitely recommend

  • Amazing Yurt in a stunning location. The Yurt is very private and secluded and is perfect for a romantic weekend. Aidan was very hospitable - he drove us to the yurt on arrival which was very handy as it was dark. He helpfully topped up our firewood on request. Overall a great experience.

    Emily2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing weekend spent in the yurt for my partners surprise birthday celebration!! Insane location, brilliant yurt, fully equipped and Aidan was great! Proper off grid experience, thoroughly enjoyable! As Aidan mentioned to us, wellies definitely recommended during wet periods!

    Will2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The yurt was incredible we really had our own space coupled with the overwhelming hospitality of the host it made this holiday very special. The fire pit was lovely we spent many hours sat by it. The yurt had everything we needed and the bed was very comfy. Inside the yurt was very warm and cosy and overall we had an amazing experience and we are already planning our next visit.

    Sean2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful getaway from it all experience. The Yurt is in a private, secluded and spacious area, with stunning views everywhere. The large bbq is very effective, and the firepit by the seated area really throws out heat, so even in late December we were able to sit out chatting and sipping wine. The Yurt itself is cosy with homely decor. The bed was very comfortable and we slept really well. Other than birdsong there was no noise at all. The village is about a 15 to 20 minute pleasant walk away and the village pub is traditional with great food. Aidan was a wonderful host and we really enjoyed walking his Llamas with him on the moors. We will definitely go back again.

  • Above & beyond hospitality! The wing was absolutely lovely and very clean. She also provided little snacks and drinks in the room in addition to the breakfast menu she had created to choose from. Very lovely lady, even went far beyond expectations and offered to give us a lift to Whitby as we had missed the train. A++ would stay again.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Susan’s comfortable, spacious and interesting home. We loved the benefit of the sitting area next to the bedroom and of the access to a beautiful and extensive garden. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and very comfortable (and breakfasts were a delicious treat). Susan is very welcoming and sociable and more than willing to provide information about the local area. The house is beautifully located for access to all the village amenities and has some wonderful views over the valley.

Private parking at rear of property. Co-op next door for any supplies which is handy. Asda is roughly 10 min drive away. • Where do I start.....stunning setting with sea views, great communication with caroline & her hospitality was second to none. The cottage was immaculate & I loved the decor. All the little extras such as dog treats, home made cakes, breakfast items, milk, fresh flowers & so much more. Caroline & john are fantastic hosts & were on hand if required. The way the cottage is situated from the main house allows you to feel completely separate & private. Enclosed court yard area ensured our dog couldn't escape. Fantastically placed to explore the Cleveland way we visited staithes every day, walked to saltburn & caught the bus back the walked to Runswick bay on another day. We only used the car once to visit whitby. Great recommendations from caroline. Even though the wind whipped up you felt snug in the cottage. The hot tub was fab & we also used the games room which is a great extra. Overall our stay was very relaxing & romantic. Everything you need & more. Thank you caroline & john.

  • The cottage decor is tasteful and very homey. Caroline goes to great lengths to ensure you (and your dogs) feel most welcome. Welcome box with goodies is divine. Dog blankets are even provided! The hot tub is just amazing after a day out walking along the coast near Staithes and Runswick Bay. So many walks with the Cleveland Way just outside the door. And, should the weather not suit, there is a warm fire to cozy up with Netflix or a good book. Good restaurants and pubs also nearby.

  • I can’t express enough how amazing this cottage is, from the moment of booking Caroline is a super host, nothing was too much trouble. On arriving Caroline gave us a tour of the cottage and showed us everything we needed. The cottage is stunning and you couldn’t wish for more, the hot tub is such a bonus along with the views out to sea. The cottage is very private and you can choose how much interactions you have with Caroline and her family. The touches of homemade cake, jam and cookies very much appreciated. This was our first full week booking with air b n b and am so glad we chose such a high standard cottage. Book here and you will not be disappointed at all 😊

  • This is an absolutely super place to stay and should not be missed. Caroline is a brilliant host and you will not be disappointed.

  • Wow, where to start?! We couldn’t have asked for a more exceptional place to get away from the stresses of life. From the warm welcome from Caroline with homemade cakes, cookies and fresh flowers to the comfort and small touches throughout! Very doggy friendly with a spacious and secure outdoor area (complete with dog shower!) but still felt like we were in 5* luxury. Super comfy bed and really cosy living space. The bathroom is excellent, loved the massive bath and shower and underfloor heating! The hot tub was a great extra to relax with a drink in the evening after a long day of beautiful beach walks. Beautiful coastal path runs right outside the front door. We couldn’t think of anything to improve our stay and will definitely look to return soon!!

  • From start to finish caroline was amazing! Communication was spot on and caroline even takes the time to give you a detailed local information pack of things to do and places to see even little areas that only locals would know about. The cottage itself is absolutely amazing and clean sporting a private garden area for you and dogs if you take them. The hot tub was a fantastic touch and many nights were spent relaxing after a days walking around the local area thanks again so much for a lovely stay

    Paul2019-04-04T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended. A lovely cottage, very private with everything you could possibly need. A great hot tub which we used daily and lovely views out to sea and down towards Staithes. Caroline was a great host, met us on arrival and was available if we needed her, although we didn't because everything was perfect, we will return.

The Old Goat Our on site glamping pod, which is goat themed and very cute. In the summertime our two pygmy girls are resident in the area around the pod, but in winter they go indoors. If you want the full goat experience you can book our new goat experience (coming soon to air b n b ) or enquire if you cannot find Just 15 minutes from picturesque whitby and surrounded by national parks and the moors.
The "Old Goat Pod" PLEASE NOTE we are a meat free site, vegetarian food only. There is a small cassette camping toilet in the pod, there is an eco friendly toilet in the garden next to the pod and also an outside camping shower facility. The pod has a small 2 ring cooker and sink for snack making or a cuppa tea. It is warm and cosy and has an electric fire that soon warms up. The goats are not in the glamping area in winter but goat experiences can be booked and all funds go to the sanctuary residents
  • We had a great stay. Lovely and neat farm! Easy communication with host.

  • Gorgeous accommodation in a beautiful setting. Sharon and her partner were welcoming and generous. Sheep obviously very cute. The goat pod was warm, clean and cosy and had everything we needed. Best nights sleep i've had in ages :) Highly recommended

  • We had a lovely stay, so warm and cosy and very weatherproof (storm Dennis was raging outside but was no bother). Lovely hosts and great location to get away from it all.

    Dominic2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wow we absolutely loved the pod, we were greeted by Sharon's husband who was really friendly and showed us around and explained the amenities which was really helpful. The area is lovely and the pod is amazing, it was lovely and cozy and warm with a huge comfy bed with fluffy warm sheets. We are already planning another visit here due to the amazing value and proximity to many of the North Yorkshire sights and towns we wanted to see! It's close to the lovely Whitby and extremely well positioned for exploring the coastline. It was amazing to see so many lovely animals roaming with lots of space, including the adorable goats near the pod. We were welcomed with plenty of tea and coffee at hand and some lovely rocky road which was a great touch! The facilities are fine too, there's a porta pottie in the cabin and a compost loo and outside shower near the pod! This place feels like a hidden gem and we can't wait to book again for another night one weekend. Thanks again! X

    Rebecca2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • A little hidden Gem! The pod was brilliant.... secluded location on a family run farm. The hosts where polite and welcoming! For someone that loves the outdoors and camping this suited me to the T. The outdoor shower facility was great! Although it was frosty when I woke this morning I dived right in amongst the trees, Hot water running it was great! I’d highly recommend for like minded out doors people. Will be staying with them again. Matt

    Matthew2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed one night here, and loved every minute of it. The pod has lovely touches, fairy lights and candles so it’s really cosy as it gets dark. Comfy bed and lots of chickens, cats, and sheep roaming around. We loved it and will be back in summer to experience the Moors in warmer weather. Very reasonably priced and lovely hosts.

    Rose2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Warm welcome from Sharon who showed us around the farm and made sure we were settled in the Pod. They were handy next door if we needed anything. Farm and Pod are both great - comfy bed, warm (January), clean and enough space for 2. Perfect if you want to see a working farm with and learn about the animals. Thanks!! Hope to come back again. Tip: bring a board game and a bottle of wine. Location: Runsiwck Bay and Staithes are close by for beach walks and good pubs.

The location is lovely, the place is perfect , and those very special extra things make this a place you will want to return to. Elaine and her family are delightful hosts, and really make you feel at home. I have stayed at many places and this takes some beating.

You have every amenity to be self-sufficient here and with a wonderfully accessible butcher shop, grocery store, and pub within walking or short driving distance, you can't go wrong! Forge cottage is set in the small village of Hinderwell, on the scenic North Yorkshire coast. This quirky holiday let is comprised of a self contained apartment offering kitchen, living room and bathroom. From the apartment you will step into the private garden with a stunning log cabin providing a double bedroom and extra seating area.
Hinderwell is ideally located on the Cleveland Way, 7 miles from the historic fishing town of Whitby, and within 2 miles of the Jurassic Runswick Bay, the stunning village of Staithes, and the picturesque North Yorkshire moors. Public transport is accessible metres from the property, and free, off-road parking is also available. Hinderwell has 2 Public Houses that both serve meals, a Local Butchers, and a Local Coffee Bar. This family run apartment is located at the rear of the main house, however remains a completely separate and private area with its own entrance. We are a dog friendly property and we too have a dog.
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Rays! He's built a great little holiday stay. It felt very private but the Ray was really welcoming with some extra touches (scones and hot water bottles :)). Great location just off the coastal path between Staithes and Runswick Bay. Will definately look to stay again if when were visiting that part of the world.

  • Ray is a wonderful host and I loved his place -- really cosy, super comfortable bed, and even some delicious scones on arrival! Nice private nook to enjoy the sun in the garden and comfy if you want to just hunker down instead. Would love to come back - 1 night was not enough.

    Emma2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was great, but I have to point out that the bedroom is separated from the living, dining & kitchen area. Although the distance between the two is only a few metres, there is no cover overhead which could be difficult if it was raining. But that said, Ray was a wonderful host and we enjoyed our stay. We would definitely stay again.

    Peter2019-10-17T00:00:00Z

  • Ray's place is brand new, private, clean and incredibly well equipped! We didn't need to use the kitchen but noticed it was well finished for a self-catering unit. Ray was incredibly patient with us, providing lovely personal touches.

Cosy Grade II listed fisherman's cottage for 2 in the old part of Staithes, with a double bedroom, a modern kitchen and bathroom, electric heating throughout and wood burner in the lounge, Wi-fi. Dogs welcome.
At the bottom of the steep cobbled bank in the heart of the quaint fishing village of Staithes you will find our Grade II listed fisherman's cottage. When I first saw it the words that sprung to mind were "bijou" and "cosy" - I fell in love with it at once! Since we bought Lahney Cottage in February 2016, it has undergone a complete refurbishment, with new furniture, equipment, new flooring and carpets throughout, as well as being regularly redecorated throughout. The kitchen is very well equipped, the lounge has a TV with integral DVD player, internet radio with Bluetooth speaker and wi-fi (super fast unlimited broadband). On the first floor you will find the double bedroom and the bathroom with an electric shower over the bath. The cottage has heaters in the rooms and also a fabulous log burner in the lounge. You are seconds from the dog friendly beach and there are three dog friendly pubs in the village. Short term parking is available for unloading and there is car parking available at the top of the village, about a 5 minute walk from the cottage (parking charges apply). Well-behaved dogs are welcome and unlike a lot of properties we don't charge extra, but we do want to know if they will be there, so please make sure you tell us when you book. The Faith in Nature shower gels, shampoos and hand soaps that we provide are all made with essential oils, are vegan and cruelty free, and are also SLS and paraben free. The cleaning and laundry products we use are also from "eco-friendly" companies - Lilly's Eco Clean and KINN Living. All are kinder to you and the environment.
The cottage is in a quiet location in the heart of the village, with easy access to local shops, pubs and restaurants and only a few steps from the harbour. Staithes is set right on the Cleveland Way and there are some lovely walks for people of all ages and abilities either northwards towards Boulby cliffs and Saltburn or south towards Port Mulgrave, Runswick Bay, Sandsend and Whitby - famous for its beautiful black jet, its Abbey and connections with Dracula and, more recently for being a Goth mecca!
  • Perfect, wish we could've stayed longer!

  • Eva was quick to reply to any questions and very helpful. The cottage was as described, cosy, clean and well-equipped. The welcome pack was very welcome! Ideally located near to the harbour.

  • Amazing little cottage in the heart of Staithes, lovely get away in amazing scenery, 10/10

    Ben2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • We have just returned from a wonderful 3 days at Lahney Cottage and I want to go back. Prior to arrival, Eva sent us some comprehensive information about the location, parking, entrance and tips of shops and wood supplies. She responded quickly to anything I asked her also. We parked in the public car park at the top which was free between November and March (also Runswick Bay and Whitby had similar) but we're able to quickly unload outside the Cod and Lobster and then park up. The cottage is beautifully decorated and the kitchen very well equipped (there is even a spice rack) with loads of utensils and lots of lovely eco friendly products. There was a welcome loaf, butter, milk and teas and coffee to get us started. The information folders are above the TV and had plenty of useful stuff to read. Upstairs there is a lovely deep carpet and very comfortable bed. Shower is easy to use and nice and hot! The fire kept us very cosy in the evenings (when we weren't at the fabulous cod and lobster) and we were so lucky to get 3 sunny days to see a beautiful sunrise! It was a very peaceful, relaxing and fabulous stay. Thanks Eva!

  • Lahney Cottage is a delightful place to stay in Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Eva’s communication was attentive and helpful throughout. The cottage was perfect for us as a couple and we really appreciated the provisions Eva had thoughtfully left to get us started. Great to have the internet radio and excellent internet albeit no mobile reception. Fantastic DVD collection which we enjoyed. Thoroughly relaxing place to stay and explore the gorgeous coastal beaches.

  • Absolutely incredible stay-the cottage is amazing! We were blown away when we walked in. The location is so so beautiful & peaceful, the animals around the farm are fab & our toddler daughter had the time of her life chatting away to them all. Helen was such a great host-the special touches around were lovely and everything was thought about. Even the walk down through her woods with all the magical creatures to spot...perfect for exploring with a little one. The hot tub and views were amazing too! Couldn’t recommend it enough-we felt so at home & rested after our stay. Thank you! We’ll definitely be back!

  • Swallow Cottage is a very special place, everything about it has the wow factor & that’s all any of us could say when we first arrived. Wow, wow, wow!!!! Every conceivable thing you could think you might need & a hundred more things that you hadn’t thought about are all provided for you. Helen’s hosting is excellent, welcoming & available but without any intrusiveness, this was ideal for us. Helen was super friendly & our little girl loved helping Helen with feeding the ducks & donkeys. Everything is absolutely sparkling clean, comfortable & very cosy especially with the added bonus of underfloor heating. I was expecting the cottage to be gorgeous because I had seen the pictures but nothing could prepare me for just how magical it is. A really very special place, thank you so much for having us to stay, we most definitely will be back.

  • We stayed at the Cottage at the end of February and we were lucky enough to enjoy snow, sunshine and sunsets. The cottage is just amazing, so cosy and comfortable, with gorgeous views of the North Yorkshire moors (which I mainly enjoyed watching from the hot tub). Helen is a wonderful host and has thought of everything and more. The little touches she adds made our trip extra special. Chilled Prosecco on arrival and even a gift for our little girl, who absolutely loved feeding the donkeys and ponies. We will definitely be booking again. Thank you for a truly wonderful stay.

From the exquisite decor, thoughtful touches, amazing amenities and idyllic setting to a warm welcome, four legged friends and a hot tub to die for ... our time here was truly incredible and we cannot recommend a stay here enough

  • Beyond expectations across the board. Lovely, remote location. Cosy cottage with top class facilities, combined with literally everything you could need during your stay. Accidentally left something at home? Don't worry it's probably already here. We really liked the extra touches such as food for the animals, arrival drink and lovely gift for our baby daughter. We've already recommended it to friends and do so without any hesitation.

  • I would definitely recommend staying at Joanne's. It was a lovely house, with everything we needed. Great hosting and local tips as well as walks information. Very quiet at night and dark outside, had a great sleep!

  • Cosy little house in a great location- nice views and handy for moors and coast.

    Katie2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Joanne met us on arrival and was very friendly and welcoming, although we were able to access the key ourselves if she had been out or busy. The house itself is in a great location, close to the centre of the village and only a short walk from the NYMR station. We were staying as a base to visit relatives but the house would be perfect to access the beautiful walks around the area. The house was clean and had everything you need for a stay, including useful items like salt and sugar and toiletries in case you had forgotten to bring anything with you. Joanne had also left us some biscuits and chocolate - always welcome! We didn't utilise the outside space due to the time of year but it would have been lovely in the warmer weather! And the ducks and chickens on the driveway were great to see.

  • Fantastic cottage in a gorgeous location. The owners were quick to respond to any questions and were really helpful. The cottage is great, really clean, comfortable and has everything you need. It's really close to the beach and has a lovely view of the harbour. We had a brilliant time in Staithes and we would highly recommend staying at the Fishermans!

    Majella2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A great cottage, views and location. I wouldn’t hesitate to go again, highly recommended for future guests.

    Andrew2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Perched on the sunny side of a hill, this fisherman’s cottage provided the perfect cosy retreat for our Winter stay - open log fire, comfy bed, thoughtfully decorated and with a beautiful view of Staithes and the sea. We missed the advice on the listing to not book if you are over 6ft. However, my boyfriend is 6ft 2 and had no issues or bangs on the head. In fact, he absolutely loved the place! Looking forward to returning in another season...

The cottage was built in 1912 and is down a private gated lane in Goathland. The room has a kingsize bed with a private bathroom. It is compact but well equipped and there is a sitting room for guest use. A continental style breakfast is provided. You are welcome to sit in the garden when the weather permits. There are amazing views from both the house and garden. The listing is for bed and breakfast and whilst I am happy for people to come and go, it is not intended for all day occupancy.
The room is very comfortably furnished with good quality feather and down duvet and pillows. The bed is king size. The private bathroom includes both a bath and walk in shower. The room is quite compact but well equipped and comfortable. Wifi is available. There is a television in your room together with tea and coffee making facilities. If I am in and you would like a drink then I will happily make you one. You also have use of a guest sitting room with comfortable sofas and a television. A continental style breakfast is included in the price. It is served in the sitting room. It is usually tea or coffee and fruit compote, yoghurt, juice, cereal, home made bread. The bread may be fresh or toasted accompanied with a choice of preserves. There are a number of different seating areas to choose from in the garden. The cost is for the room which accommodates a maximum of two people. I do let another room in the cottage which is listed separately. If you are coming as part of a larger group, this might be of interest to you. If the second room is taken during your visit then you will be given a choice about breakfast times so that if you would rather eat on your own that can be arranged. Check in is between 16:00 and 18:00 hours but this can usually be flexible. I usually message guests a day or so before they are due to arrive to check with them.
Goathland is a picturesque moorland village. It is perfect if you want the opportunity to relax in a quiet rural location or the opportunity to walk on the moors. There are three pubs in the village together with a Post office and a couple of tea rooms. The pubs are either a short drive or a ten to fifteen minute walk. NYM Steam railway runs through the village and you don't need to be a train enthusiast to appreciate the sights and sounds of the engines. You can use the railway to travel into either Whitby, Grosmont or Pickering. Or if you want to go further afield, York and Scarborough are within easy driving distance. The coastal villages of Staithes, Runswick Bay, Sandsend and Robin Hoods Bay are also easily accessible by car.
  • Cath was a truly wonderful host who helped make our one year wedding anniversary that bit more special. Her tips and local recommendations were spot on, and her warmth and hospitality absolutely shone through. If you’re looking for somewhere cosy, quaint and charming to stay and feel welcome, Cath’s lovely cottage is the one for you. Much love, The Burtons

  • Cath is a fantastic host - she was kind and friendly from the moment we arrived and was very happy to offer advice on local walks, places to visit etc. She also made us cups of tea and coffee if she was in the house at the same time as us which was greatly appreciated. We felt very looked after. The house is gorgeous and we loved being able to use the guest sitting room to relax in. The bed was huge and comfortable and Cath made sure that the tea and coffee selection was kept well-stocked. I would definitely recommend a stay here if you are visiting Goathland!

  • We had a great stay in Dave’s well appointed and cosy cottage, good location for the beach, Cod and Lobster pub and great walks. We would thoroughly recommend a stay at Seaholme Cottage.

    Jane2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • David’s communication RE check in etc was great, as was communication from the lady who looks after his place who seems lovely. Everything was easy- the house had absolutely everything we needed and is right next to the sea and you can hear the sea at night from the top bedroom. It’s also next to a great pub- the Cod and Lobster, which has amazing food and service. Biggest positive point is the master bedroom which has great views and the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in!! Also the shower is fab as are the kitchen facilities and the sky package is a nice touch for rainy days finding something to watch when relaxing in the evening. Can’t say enough good things really- highly recommend! If you have mobility issues it might be worth considering that you have to walk up a hill to the car park and that the house is on 4 floors.

  • Beautiful and well appointed cottage moments from the beach and great pubs in the village. Very easy check-in and excellent communication from host. Look no further for a place to stay in Staithes.

  • A lovely few days spent at David's cosy place right at the harbour. Check in was easy and the house well equipped. We parked in the public car park at the top of the village after unloading at the house - it's advisable to have change available. We were wanting to pay by card but it wasn't an option.

    Julie2019-10-20T00:00:00Z

  • Cottage is ideal for exploring both the North Yorkshire Coast and the moors. Lovely little cottage, spotlessly clean and Jane had left us flowers and a lovely cake which was yummy! Good value for money.

  • A gorgeous little cottage in an excellent location. It's convenient for driving into Whitby but also feels rural. The place was immaculate and modern, and Jane and Bryan were very welcoming and friendly. Very dog-friendly too! We would definitely book again!

  • Wow, what can I say apart from Amazing! First time my family and I have used AirBnB and this property didn’t disappoint. A nice cosy little cottage with more than enough room for 4 people and a dog. The property is very nicely decorated with comfortable sofas, beds with nice towels and linen. The kitchen is fully equipped with new cutlery, crockery a great oven, a dishwasher and microwave. The cottage also has a nice sized TV, access to Now TV, Netflix and great Wi-Fi. The cottage is located next to a gated field/sports pitch with a nice little river running through it for that early morning dog walk/stretch if your pet needs it. And to top it all off Jane & Bryan are excellent hosts, so thank you. We would not hesitate in staying here again.

  • Jane is a fantastic host and the cottage is excellent in every way. It is spotlessly clean and in a quiet location with a great outside grassed area, totally secure, for the dogs., and plenty of parking space. It is only 10 mins into Whitby and in a good location for visiting the whole area. We will definitely return.

  • Jane and Bryan are fantastic hosts! Had the best of times, Lowdale Cottage felt like home as soon as I stepped in - what a wonderful place! Finding cake (and milk!) on arrival was very thoughtful and a lovely touch. Equipped with everything you could need as well as maps, tips and up to date train/buses timetables. Jane and Bryan have also taken the time to put together an incredibly helpful guide to the village of Sleights. A solid 5/5 for me, can't wait to go back!
