Places to stay in Lake Pearson

Places to stay in Lake Pearson
Modern-rustic chalet, nestled in the magical mountain village of Castle Hill. Only 1 hour, 10 minutes from Christchurch. This is the perfect place to get close to nature and unwind. The chalet is warm and "hugge", with comfortable furniture and plenty of space for 2 families to spread out. Our home is available to travellers from near and far. Enjoy endless outdoor fun...skiing, hiking, rock climbing, caving, mountain biking, rivers, native forest and tennis. OR just relax and breathe deeply.
Our recently built chalet has most of the mod cons that make a holiday relaxing, while giving that feel of old world simplicity. Solid wood walls and a heated concrete floor make it very cosy in the winter and cool evenings. Let me know how many beds to make up and I'll have the place all ready for you. The house gets all day sunshine and you can sit out on the deck, enjoy a BBQ and watch the sunset or star gaze into the late hours. The house is equipped with tennis racquets, board games, and a fledgling collection of books for kids and adults. There is a TV and DVD player with a small collection of family movies. We have deliberately not installed wifi ....to give you a break, but there is phone reception. There are no shops nearby so you will need to bring all your food with you. There is plenty of space to put boxes of food and a family sized fridge.
Castle Hill village is a quite place, no shops or cafes. There is a communal tennis court, playing field, playground, waterslide, river and bicycle pump track all within walking distance. Further afield there are endless outdoor activities.
  • A wonderfully located stay in a great part of the world. Very clpse to the likes of Cave Stream and Castle Hill. The hiking/mountain bike trails at the back door were lovely, as were the many board games for lazy days. We will certainly look this stay again next time.

  • Wonderful space and great spot

  • If you want some heavenly place on earth, this is one to go to. The village of Castle Hill is like out of a dream, and this little house is gorgeous, well stocked, eco friendly with a composting bin, and no- chemical cleaning, a nice wee bookshelf with interesting things to read! Kitchen all well stocked. Really close plentiful walks or runs, fantastic landscapes. perfect if you have children. We had the best Christmas there. Thank you so much!

  • Loved our stay at Catherine’s - beautiful place and very well equipped. The setting is sensational.

    Kim2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place for a getaway! The chalet is rustic but very comfortable, and it has all the amenities you could want! Castle Hill is a great location not far from Arthur's Pass and lots of other scenic attractions. Plus it's not too far from Christchurch!

  • Wonderful house, under floor heating was sublime. Highly reccomend 😊

    Sammy2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Catherine’s home is a delightful escape. Nicely decorated and warm and cosy. We loved having no WIFI. It meant we played boardgames instead. I was still able to use 3G data through my phone for work which was handy. We skiied Mt Cheeseman and Porters and did a sneaky trip down to Mt Hutt as the local fields were closed one day due to wind. We also enjoyed walks in the Castle Hill area including the Rocks which were impressive. We’d love to return. Hopefully next winter. Alison

Fully self contained private unit. My place is close to Town centre, restaurants and dining, great views, parks, and just across the road from the pub.. You’ll love my place because of the kitchen, the fire place, the cosiness, the private laundry and bathroom and queen size bed and sofa bed.. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families up to four.Small dogs are fine.
We offer a continental breakfast, cereal, porridge, muesli, toast and most toppings, tea, green and herbal teas and of course coffee, instant and or plunger, drip filter, you also have a full kitchen to cook your own breakfast if thats what you prefer.
We happen to have a large doughnut in the park near the house ,it was gifted to the township of Springfield, from the kind people of the united states, and is a great place for photos as well as a place for the kids to play.
  • Don't miss the chance to stay here. Really cool lovely place. Awesome fire. Cosy bed

    Shannon2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome accommodations! The fireplace was perfect for the chilly night. I did suggest the host prevent the doggies from barking next to the door between the rental space and her personal home space. I was trying to talk with my family in the states on the phone (in the am here, pm there) and they kept barking at the door so my family and I couldn’t hear one another. I had to keep moving around or try to talk more quietly. Otherwise - this was the perfect rental!

    Melissa2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Nothing better than that fire place on a cool March night! We had a great stay at Lesley's with super easy and flexible check in. The unit was spacious and comfy bed. Great for a nights rest driving to or from Arthurs Pass. Dont miss out on this great value stay!

    Saleem2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay. Comfy bed. Suitable light breakfast. We appreciated being able to do laundry, even without a dryer.

  • Great, cozy place! Wonderful views, and Kristine was so helpful and available.

  • Absolutely amazing stay, and a great value considering how special the cottage and the location are. Definitely try the outdoor bathtub for stargazing at night! One of the highlights of my trip to NZ.

    Claire2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • I highly recommend this place. Kristine is wonderful! The place is super cute and romantic with a very large bathroom. We loved staying here and would absolutely stay there again.

  • Staying at the Nook was a wonderful experience. Kristine met me upon my arrival and gave me valuable travel tips for both sightseeing and dining. Her guesthouse is beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The bathroom is my dream bathroom. Loved this place. My only regret is that I stayed for only one night.

    Duane2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Nook is a cozy , stylish studio apartment with a great view of the mountains. Unfortunately we had heavy rain while we were there so did not get to see much of the view until the morning when the weather cleared. It is close to the railway yards but we were not bothered by any trains the night we were there. Kristine was a very helpful host, and I would recommend the Nook for any couple (or single person) who wants to stay in Arthur’s Pass

    Joanna2020-02-29T00:00:00Z

Forest Lodge is a unique alpine wilderness lodge situated in the heart of the Craigieburn Range. We are an off-grid lodge relying mainly on solar energy for electricity. Forest Lodge has amazing bush hikes and mountain biking right from the doorstep aswell as incredible night skies and spectacular sunrises. If you are seeking a mountain escape, rest assured you will find what you are after.
  • The Lodge is well-managed by Sam and I loved the experience living off-the-grid. Dorms were super tidy as well as communal areas. The mountain views from the site are enough reason to stay there longer.

I loved the garden area as well as the small private living room - felt actually like having a whole flat to yourself. Everything was clean and the hosts were very welcoming. Thanks for the little welcome present! Very thoughtful. Would stay anytime again.

  • This was our first stay in a tiny house, and now I want my own! Such a cool location and the space is decked out with all kinds of good stuff. Really far out there in a good way!

    Kenneth2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great little getaway if you're really looking to unplug from technology and notifications. Was great to have full kitchen and bathroom facilities in an otherwise minimal space... kind of like glamping! Only suggestion for guests would be to bring your own pillow if you prefer a firm one (most people would do that anyway I think)

    Kyra2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful getaway. Peaceful and remote - out of signal. Good walks in the area. We enjoyed unwinding here and would definitely return.

  • What an amazing tiny house to stay at. Had a great time on the bush walks around the place and the house itself was spectacular, especially being in the loft bedroom and looking out the windows at the snow and natural setting. Would recommend for any couple seeking a getaway and would definitely return!

    Sam2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic place! We stayed for two nights here to get away and loved the cabin and the location! So close to some amazing walks and stunning country and the cabin was so cosy and also really well finished! Considering going back! Nice touch not having a TV as it’s a good place to relax without any noise. Super quiet and the skylights above the bed let you look out at the stars while you get to sleep! All the amenities we needed were all there! Thanks guys for one of the best Airbnb’s we’ve stayed at! P.S even a wine fridge and a stereo to play music!

Great food, espresso coffee and friendly hosts in a lovingly restored mountain cottage. Geoff and Renée welcome you to share their home in the village of Arthur’s Pass surrounded by the forest and peaks of Arthur's Pass National Park. 5 minutes from railway station and 10 minutes from cafe, restaurant and bus. We've been running for over 7 years but just joined Airbnb. Check our website www.arthurspass.org.nz and Trip Advisor for reviews
Our cottage is a restored railway cottage. Warm, well insulated but with all the character, charm and stories of an old house. We love cooking and cosiness. If you like dogs, Maggie, our affectionate West Highland terrier will love you. There are plenty of books to read on a rainy day so feel free to browse the library.
Arthur's Pass is a tiny mountain village with about 30 permanent residents. Our property is literally right next to the national park. Its a short distance to most facilities, with the Department of Conservation Visitor Centre less than 5 minutes walk away and a few more minutes walk to the cafe and restaurant/bar. The popular Avalanche Peak track can be accessed from the end of our street.
  • Highly recommend staying here.

  • This is such a homely space and we would thoroughly recommend staying here. Renee and Jeff cooked dinner for us in the evening and it was delicious. The weather had been terrible so it was amazing to be in their cosy lounge and they provided us with loads of information about the surrounding area.

  • Renee and Geoff were great hosts. They were very accommodating and friendly. Renee was quick to respond to messages during booking. Renee and Geoff made us delicious breakfast with home made bread and coffee. The place is quaint in a beautiful mountain town. The room and bathroom were clean. Highly recommend this place for a quick stay in Arthur Pass. Overall a great experience.

  • We had a great time at Renées and Geoffs place. We enjoyed the great food and coffee as well as the cosy atmosphere in the house. I can highly recommend this place.

  • Renée and Geoff’s bed and breakfast is an oasis in Arthur’s Pass. We loved their cozy home decor and were treated to delicious meals. It was in the perfect location to explore the area and they are marvelous hosts with a lot of knowledge of not only the Pass but of the country. Also, their dog Maggie is perfectly snuggly.

  • It rained all the time to Arthur. It was warm to live in the landlord's house. The hostess was very communicative. There was a dog at home by the stove. It's the best latte in ten days. It's good. There's an omelet for breakfast.

    Arthur's Pass, Canterbury, New Zealand

Nestled in the alpine village of Arthur’s Pass, and in the heart of Arthur’s Pass National Park, The Tussocks offers a great mid-way stopover when travelling from coast to coast, or a fantastic base for doing the many tracks and trails in the surrounding area. The house is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families, hikers/trampers and larger groups of up to eight people.
The house is yours to enjoy during your stay. There is a log burner in the living room and there are a couple of extra heaters. There is unlimited Wi-Fi for guests. We have a Nespresso machine in the kitchen and you can enjoy your first couple of coffees on us. A limited supply of tea and instant coffee is also provided to start you off. On departure, please leave the house as you found it.
Arthur's Pass is situated in a beautiful alpine setting. There are only about 28 permanent residents but there is a great community feel to the place. Ten minutes' walk will take you to the village centre where there is a cafe/store, a licensed restaurant and the Department of Conservation Visitor Centre. Here you can get information and advice on the many walks in and around the area. The Store has a limited supply of groceries, so you would be best to bring your supplies with you. We provide complimentary tea/coffee etc. to get you started. The restaurant closes at 8pm prompt, so please bear this in mind to avoid disappointment.

    Arthur's Pass, Canterbury, New Zealand

Only 15mins South of Arthur's Pass Village, on SH73, the ecolodge overlooks the expansive Waimakariri River and mountains of the National Park. My home is completely "off grid" and set amidst native bush and birdsong. Each of the 2 bedrooms costs $175 per night for bed and breakfast (for 2 people). I am happy to provide the evening meal if you advise me before arrival.
Eco living at its best. Rain water, solar power, composting (no smell) waterless toilet, and a wood fire. Surrounded by native bush. Plenty of books and board games for the downtime
Surrounding houses are weekenders or "baches", but usually there is no one else around - apart from the native birds!
  • Just the most amazing views and really family friendly. Extremely comfortable and welcoming with an excellent breakfast. Would recommend wholeheartedly.

    Sylvie2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Helen is a very cool, thoughtful host, and a great cook! We are food snobs at home, used to the best ingredients, and Helen delighted us with delicious dinner and breakfast. We very much enjoyed spending the evening together, trading stories and getting to know more about NZ and our common interests.

    Ellen2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a special place! The views are mind blowing, and the house is right on the path of a great walking trail into the mountains! Helen was so kind and hospitable, and I'd wholeheartedly recommend a stay at her very special lodge.

    Chloe2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Not only does Helen have one of the best window views in New Zealand, her hospitality is just fabulous. She is kind and caring and great to chat to, and did I tell you about that view? Her place is so cool, I’m already planning the next trip!

    Brodie2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • We were so happy tp find Helen and here beautiful home, with the most amazing view!! Meeting Helen was a real pleasure and the location of her place is just perfect for tracks all over Arthur's pass area. Highly recommended, hope we will be able to come back soon!!

    Sharon2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing eco-friendly off-grid Air B&B which overlooks the mountains near Arthurs Pass! It was such a great way to spend the night at Arthurs Pass and Helen is a wonderful host! We asked if we could have a meal cooked for us and it was truly wonderful and the breakfast was also a welcome break from our on the road style breakfasts. The views from the eco-lodge are amazing and such a treat to wake up to! A highlight of our NZ trip. Thank you Helen

    Sarah2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • It is very nice place. we can see wonderful stars (at the bed!), mountains, and landscape. Above all, wonderful Helen!

  • Helen’s eco lodge is the perfect spot to soak up the majesty of the Arthur’s Pass National Park in an ecologically minded way. She is an incredible host and the breakfast she produces will undoubtedly be one of the best home-made breakfasts you have in New Zealand!

A largely wooden Chalet constructed with solid beams and chunky timber which gives the impression that it's just evolved from the trees that surround it! The large living area and kitchen/dining room with its interesting and original beams and architecture give the chalet its quirky character There's a large sheltered deck with fantastic mountain views & the living room features a large rock-faced fireplace and overstuffed sofas so you can relax after your day on the slopes/sightseeing/hiking
"Base Camp" as we call it is only a short walk to the center of the village but is situated in a beautifully quiet and tranquil location. If you listen very carefully you can even hear the odd kiwi at night. If you’re looking for modern and sparkling this is not for you. Base Camp has original charm, plenty of space and well-provided kitchen facilities. It is a true alpine lodge experience. All of the rooms have efficient heating and hot water is hot! Wood is provided for a lovely fire in the living room. Please note, there may be the odd Thursday, (due to lack of cleaners available on that day) that check-in may have to be after 6pm. All other days of the week are fine for check-in from 3pm unless otherwise agreed. Check out our availability calendar. If guests are checking out on the same Thursday as you are checking in you will have to check in after 6pm. If there is noone booked for the Wednesday prior then 3pm check in will be fine as the cleaners will have cleaned it the day before. There's a wonderfully private and sheltered section for the kids to run around or relax and take in the mountains and nature - it's like being in a "nature bath" so very therapeutic. This is a great place to stargaze the clear night sky surrounded by snow-clad mountains (in the winter) are breathtaking. Also available are Netflix, which operates through the PlayStation, TV 42 inch TV (NZ Free to air), Sky TV & a Bluetooth Home Theater System. Located in the village this three bedroom, two bathroom holiday house is the perfect setting for your stay. Free Parking & AC During warmer months, the home's showstopper is a private deck with incredible views of the surrounding mountains, this is the ideal spot for lazing, reading, outdoor dining, stargazing, happy hour and generally making the most of the outdoors. The deck features a dining area with seating for six. The best thing is that it's completely private and sheltered from wind. Just relax, rejuvenate and unplug in this ultimate rustic getaway experience in the mountains, listen to the sounds of nature, read and nap, or enjoy long walks
The house is situated in the only authentic Alpine village in New Zealand - Arthurs Pass. It is in the very popular Arthurs Pass National Park which has plenty of beautiful picturesque walks and tramps all around. There is a store and cafes however the village is very small so it is best to -Buy your groceries before you arrive - Groceries can be quite expensive and be of a limited selection in Arthur's Pass village. We highly recommend you purchase groceries and tramping food requirements in a main centre (Greymouth, Hokitika, Christchurch etc) before you arrive. (Or go out for dinner at the Wobly kea) -Arriving by private car - Fill up your fuel tank in a main centre to avoid inflated fuel prices in Arthur's Pass village.
  • This place is as desceibed and was a superb base for us to experince the walks and tramps in the area. Although close to the main road you cannot see or hear the road at all. Shower was great and bed comfortable.

If you want to go on an adventure and seek to find a taste of the Shire, rest your hairy feet and hand-feed friendly sheep or alpacas, our little lifestyle farm is the right place for you. Enjoy our unique place, thoughtfully designed, detailed and crafted to recreate our love for fantasy realms, sitting nestled between oaks, native trees and sheltering pines. If you value food and cheer and song, please be our guest.
You will find a tiny but cleverly designed nest, big enough for two halflings, filled with handmade details. We aim to provide a comfortable and eco friendly accommodation. The building's daytime energy comes from the sun, with many materials used being reclaimed and reused in clever ways. The bedroom features an elevated queen bed fitted with fresh cotton sheets, hand sewn pillows and crafted wooden details, perfect for daydreaming and sleeping in. We also supply you with woollen throws so you can feel cozy warm on those clear starry nights while enjoying the spectacular night sky.. The bathroom is fitted with a gas hot water system- we ask you to keep showers short to assist with sustainability and management of our water reclamation system, and a clean compost toilet, using sawdust instead of precious water. As we reuse the greywater we ask you to only use biodegradable soap, which is provided. We added two private outside sitting areas, one sheltered from the wind and sun, and just perfect to rest in a hammock under the trees and fairy lights, the other equipped with a rustic dining table, situated to overlook the mountains, paddocks and neighboring sheep yards, perfect to enjoy breakfast or dinner while the sun sets behind the mountain peaks. We will serve you a beautiful home made breakfast basket, filled with local and seasonal goodies and our own free range eggs (you are welcome to collect them yourself too). You will find a coffee plunger, kettle and tea for your convenience. There are many lunch and dinner options in the local area, please let us know if you need assistance.
There is so much beauty around us, the only thing we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given! Go and seek Narnia at the "spiritual centre of the universe" in Castle Hill, stroll through Kowai Bush or explore further into the Korowai Torlesse Tussocklands Park, go for a horse ride at Rubicon Valley, enjoy climbing, skiing or biking at Porters or one of the other close areas, or just stay and make yourself at home on our property and hand feed the sheep or go for an alpaca walk. There are a choice of restaurants and cafes in close walking distance, and more a short drive away.
  • This is the greatest Airbnb I have encountered by far. Wayde and Izzy were so lovely and accommodating and really went the extra mile as hosts. The hobbit house was so well themed it felt as though we were on a set. We really appreciated the tiny details put into the furnishings, house and surrounds. We also enjoyed the company of all the sheep and alpacas which added to the experience. Especially Elsa! 😊 The breakfast provided was delicious and fresh. Thank you so much for having us!

    Kimberley2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most wonderful stay at the Ravens Nest - we can’t stop thinking about it! The ‘hobbit house’ is so cozy and comfortable and the views can’t be beat. The hosts are so hospitable and welcoming, we truly loved everything about our stay. Make sure to feed all the sheep and give Elsa a special pat. We hope to visit again one day :)

    Samantha2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Wade and Izzy are tall for hobbits and exceptionally kind and hospitable, even for hobbits. Weary adventures would do well to soak in the tranquility and warmth created by the love and care they have poured into this place.

    Bruce2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • The Raven's Nest was perfect in every way. The thoughtful touches and obvious love that has gone into creating the space made it feel so special. The bed was super comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. Easy to follow check-in instructions and friendly hosts.

    Tori2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed here because it was on my travel route, in the location I needed to be, and it looked very cute. I’m a LOTR fan but not a total die-hard, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Izzy and her family were so great and welcoming. They’ve built an AWESOME hobbit dwelling with hands down the most comfortable bed I experienced in my time in NZ. They also pointed me to the Hotel restaurant/ pub for dinner, and I ended up having a great meal and making friends with the very friendly locals. Last, they provide an amazing breakfast with so many great little treats, more than I could eat! Great experience that I wasn’t totally expecting and I absolutely recommend!

    Nadine2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Raven’s Nest was a wonderful resting spot for us at the end of a busy trip. If you can, stay two nights to really soak up and enjoy the amazing space that has been so lovingly created by Izzy and Wayde. As has been said in other reviews every detail has been taken care of and swinging in the hammock reading my book in that wonderful space, with the backdrop of snow peaked mountains, was bliss! The breakfast was amazing 😉 and second breakfast too - there was no way we could mange it all in one sitting! Fab spot, amazing hosts … don’t miss out!

    Helen2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • If you ever find yourself traveling through Springfield, especially if you are fans of Lord of the Rings, you MUST stay at The Raven’s Nest. Izzy & Wayde are incredible hosts and have put such care and attention to detail into making the space so special. Wayde greeted us upon arrival with food to feed the animals, including the famously friendly, Elsa, their rescued sheep. We spent the rest of the evening enjoying the peace and quiet and even did some star gazing as the clouds passed. I do want to note - my husband is 6 ft 4 in tall (193cm) and he had no problem fitting inside the home, bathroom or the bed. In the morning, we were treated to an incredible breakfast of fresh pastries, jams, honey, fruit and freshly laid eggs from their chickens. It was the perfect way to start our morning - we didn’t want to leave! Thank you Izzy & Wayde for letting us share your incredible home with us.

    Hilary2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Izzy and Wayde's place is absolute perfection. We loved every second of our stay. The details are amazing and we can't wait to recommend this place to our friends and hopefully return one day ourselves!

Cosy basic alpine cottage in Arthur's Pass National Park with backdoor access to the Southern Alps. Ideally located for endless outdoor recreation activities or to just sit by the fire and relax ***NOT SERVICED ***Guests must bring their OWN SHEETS AND TOWELS*** please do not leave in your review that there were no linen provided it clearly states there is not. Please note there is ONLY A BATH no shower as the one in there is not usable.
IMPORTANT Oct 2019 Please note there is a plague of mice in the area this year worse than other years and they will be in the Bach despite traps being placed, DO NOT leave food out only in the fridge or cupboard. You will need to provide all bed linen and towels. there are pillows and duvets on each bed and some spare extra blankets . It is a totally self catering cottage so you are required to leave it clean for the next guests (vacuum through, wash dishes clean the bathroom including toilet there is cleaning stuff under the sink in bathroom and kitchen ) and remove all rubbish (bins are by the entrance to the car park at the end of the drive) recycling is by the train station. NO ONE SERVICES IT BETWEEN GUESTS Due to being in a remote village there are no cleaners between each visitors stay and we rely on guests to leave it ready for the next guest to enjoy.Spring time brings mice and there is really no way of stopping them in these old Baches so please only keep food in the fridge or the top cupboards or it will encourage them in and your food will get spoiled. Winter stays May to October you will need to follow the start up and shut down instructions for the water system - if this is not followed the pipes will freeze and burst so it is very important, the instructions are in the house for arrival and I will send you a copy with check in details also. Please ask if you don’t understand them.
The village has a pub serving good food until 8pm, there is also a local shop/Cafe / fueling station and an excellent DOC information center where you can purchase hiking maps and get local advise.
  • Fantastic place, beautiful location. Will return for a winter and snow stay in future

  • A great spot and a genuine NZ bach with a few nice enhancements like big picture windows at the back looking over the garden and the north side ranges. Excellent fire and piles of wood in the garage. I loved the bath but maybe better for the environment if the shower is fixed ? Would love to go back. Thank you.

  • A delightful cottage in one of our beautiful parts of NZ! If you are looking for a comfortable and convenient place to stay in Arthur’s Pass, Zaiga’s place is perfect! Comfortable beds and furnishings, a well equipped kitchen, the fabulous fire and an ideal location to the services and resources in Arthur’s Pass ensure a very successful and memorable experience. Zaiga is a great communicator and provides very clear expectations and instructions and we certainly appreciated the way the cottage was left by previous guests. Thank you Zaiga!

    Lynelle2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Zaiga’s place. It’s in a great location, just a short walk to town and local walks. It had a real trampers house feel with the small bunk room to the side. I would certainly recommend bringing some warm layers in the colder months. The house was exactly as described and renters need to read the detailed instructions about what is available and needs to be brought eg. bedding.

  • The Tiny House was amazing. It was clean and very fun to be in. Janette was very welcoming and her kids are just the most wonderful :) Her beds and bedding are super comfortable. I can sleep in it all day :) Would recommend and would come back 2x, 3x and more!!!

    Cherry2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • What a perfect stopover this turned out to be!! Janette is a such friendly host who is passionate about her Tiny House. It is a beautifully made space with plenty of room to fit our group of six! The shower was AMAZING and the Queen bed was SO comfy. Janette has three children who ended up playing cricket with our kids all night, which was great! The children have pet chickens which our kids loved because you can pick them up and pet them!! Overall I would totally recommend this place, it’s a top spot!!

    Lesley2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Janette’s place is one of the unique stays we ever had in South Island. We loved every bit of it. She didn’t miss anything in her welcoming story. The place is very clean and tidy. I am sure this would be a great stay specially for a couple. The little kitchen got everything where we can cook a hot meal. Upstairs sleeping place is very thoughtful and we loved it. If we ever come back to Oxford, we would always book their place.

  • The Tiny House is amazing. For anyone who has watched Tiny House Nation, you will thoroughly enjoy the experience of living tiny for a short while. The house is super sturdy, well appointed and suitable for a family of four or even five (the extra room is very handy). We really enjoyed chatting with our hosts and the kids were so happy to have the hosts’ kids to play with around the farm. Plenty of fun things to do around the place, including playing with the pet chickens! This is a real special experience, I highly recommend it.

    Darwin2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Super cute house, friendly host and chickens! A good nights sleep.

    Beth2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • My family had a wonderful and memorable time at the tiny house. The house is clean and comfy. Our three kids enjoyed the big land where Janette’s family lives and where this tiny house is built. My children were always eager to get out to play in the wood and the field, with cows and chickens, and Janette’s lovely children. We felt so much welcomed and at home. Janette provided detailed information about different activities we could do during the stay. We wish our stay could’ve been longer.

    Kay2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Janette is very friendly and provided us valuable tips around Oxford. Her space is really spacious, which allowed us to run around in the fields and interact with the farm animals. We enjoyed our time very much in the cosy house built from scratch.

    Avery2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • This house truck is a truly awesome kiwi experience, especially when you are greeted by the flock of friendly chooks at your the doorstep, the mooing of the cows in the paddock or being invited for a game of cricket with the family's kids. Ideal stop over for a night or more with Oxfords shops only 5 mins away. Would love to stay again, even in winter with ski slopes only 45 mins drive away!

We are a small family run accommodation business on the edge of the Springfield township with arguably the best views in the area. Along with four young children, we have six alpacas, a small flock of chickens, 2 cats, and neighbouring horses, sheep, and cattle. If you are looking for clean, comfortable and affordable accommodation in Springfield we should be your first stop.
We are tucked away on a back street away from highway 73, and right next to the Midland rail line for all you trainspotters out there. The room is studio style with en-suite and has a TV, toaster, microwave, small fridge, electric jug and complimentary tea & coffee. There is also a BBQ located on the deck if you wish to do any cooking, but there is no hot plate or oven in the room. All rooms are non smoking. A basic breakfast of cereal, milk and peaches is provided.
Springfield is a small historic railway village. There are a couple of cafes on the main street along with the local pub. There are not a lot of options for evening dinning in the village, however the Sheffield hotel in the next village east (about a 7min drive) offers evening meals Thursday to Sunday, and takeaways most other nights.
  • I highly recommend staying at Louise's. She is gracious and welcoming. The room was better than what the listing represents. This is a great deal for a spacious room directly off of 73 that includes private bath and kitchenette. The local tavern was great for a delicious meal also.

    Zyn2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Very large warm room with a very comfortable bed. Perfect place to stay.

    Nathan2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • A very lovely host and a very nice accommodation!

    Michael2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • I liked to stay there. The room is really big if you travel by yourself and everything was really clean. It is a peaceful surrounding and you've got a great view at the mountains. Not to forget the lamas. To quote Louise, the gas station has a limited amount of food. So if you fancy something special, bring it with you just like I did. I used the BBQ on the terrace to make myself some dinner and it works perfectly. The bed is really good and the breakfast is basic (2 sorts of cereal, fruit, milk, coffee and tea) but it's definitely enough to have a good start in the day. I can recommend to stay there. I really liked it.

    Johanna2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Louisa's place! Wish we could have stayed longer.

  • We stayed here for one night on our way to Arthur’s Pass. Bahara was a perfect stopover, small but perfectly formed. The property was spotless and had everything we needed. We arrived later than we’d intended but Louise had put the heating on for us and left our key in the office so there were no problems. We would recommend this property in this unique setting and also it was excellent value.

    Sarah2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Louise’s place is exactly as described and pictured. A lovely place to stay.

    Andreas2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place with a fantastic view, alpacas included! We had booked a double with single bed room but Louise offered us the queen room when we arrived which was bigger and made more sense for us as a couple. Would stay again!

    Alison2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • It was so amazing. We could see beautiful view and animals. They gave us fresh eggs. Thank you so much.

  • Located in a quiet village, the house was clean and the farm scenery was beautiful. We had a simple breakfast (milk, cereal) and it was delicious.

Newly built guest apartment in tranquil rural setting. Popular walking and mountain biking area. Adjoining farmhouse, but private and peaceful. We are available when needed, otherwise you will rarely see us around.
Our apartment is brand new. Warm, Cosy, with fantastic views across the land to Mt Oxford and beyond
Kowai Bush is a settlement off SH73 surrounded by native bush, bird song, and mountains. 5 minutes from Springfield, which has great cafe's and pub. High Country horse trek, and Alpine Jet boat, are in the vicinity
  • The place is beautiful. It is perched on a corner lot with a deck to enjoy beautiful views. The stay comes with all amenities to cook and clean. It was very well done. The laundry option was a huge plus to us. The three dogs are adorable and made our stay more welcoming. 😊

  • Carl is a great host, he met us when we arrived. He introduced to the place as well as his super sweet dogs. The place had everything we needed and was very clean. We loved our stay here and only wish we could have stayed longer. This is one of our favorite places we’ve stayed at in New Zealand and definitely recommend.

    Vincent2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Dawn and Carl were great hosts. Dawn met us on arrival and showed us to the guest wing. It was sparkling clean and had everything we needed/wanted- great cooking facilities, a washing machine, a huge bath (Dawn even dropped by some Epsom Salts for us to use knowing we’d been out hiking for the day), easy wifi access and dogs to pat! We loved it and had a wonderful stay here!

    Annaliese2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Carl and Dawn's place is a refuge and a home away from home. They were great communicators, really flexible, and such fantastic hosts. The space is off the beaten path but so worth it for the quiet and the views. The home was well set up and perfectly clean. While there were already a few items for our young children, they offered more toys and books from their personal stash, which was well received by our kiddos who had been on the road for a long, long time.

    Marjorie2020-02-24T00:00:00Z

  • Francine, was extremely responsive and who I would consider a great host. Her cottage was so comfortable and still had that farm-cottage feel. A lot of the cottage felt authentic paired with modern conveniences as well. Great little place, and you should definitely try to schedule a tour if available.

  • Amazing place to stay. A fire was in the wood stove waiting for us, and the house has everything you need! Our hosts were amazing, and showed us their peonies! We had food we brought with us since it was Christmas Day, and the kitchen was well supplied to cook. Highly recommend! Even had a Christmas tree set up. Such a sweet place.

  • Forest Lodge made for an excellent one nighter for us traveling from the west coast and into Otago. Twin beds only but after weeks on the road together we were both ok with a little space to ourselves. Great kitchen for cooking your meals, lovely host, cute pup and incredible country. We could have stayed and trekked for days.

    Casey2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • Forest lodge is a lovely side-country lodge in central New Zealand with fantastic access to some epic mount biking. My wife and I had an excellent stay. Sam was super helpful and friendly and even offered to give us some shuttles for some bike laps. The lodge has great rustic charm, with a huge central wood stove and communal kitchen and hang out area. If you're in the craigieburn area for a visit or some biking, this is a great option. Would definitely recommend.
