  • Superb gîte which allowed us to spend a beautiful family holiday. Each couple had their own bathroom. There is even baby equipment. I highly recommend. We will come back here when we visit our family.

  • Really perfect rental, very well equipped and very spacious. We had a very peaceful stay, the children were also delighted with lots of toys and books available for them. We have rarely known a house as well equipped for rental everything is done to be like at home.

  • For comfort and tranquility I recommend you at Adriana 100%

    Mohamadou2019-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is very spacious and an added bonus was a television with English channels. It catered for all of our needs and was like home from home. As it is located on the first floor there is a steep staircase leading into the apartment, which some may find a challenge if they have mobility issues but other than that all positives for us.

Our small farm with a self contained studio is by the D962 surrounded by the national park with lovely walks, nearby is the Medieval city of Domfront. with larger towns 20min`s away. We have installed a woodpellet stove, which will fill before you arrive, pellets are availiable from us, Unfortunately It is not suitable for children We do have wifi but as it`s rural France it can be unpredictable. We do have to collect a tourist tax of 50 cents per person per night, which is payable on site
Our farm is situated at the bottom of Mont Margantin in which has a lovely forest walk, The nearest neighbours are at the Chateau which is a 10 minute walk down the lane It is well suited for visiting Le Mans, Ferry at Ouistram, War Memorials, Mont St Michel. all are just over an hour away, Also there are plenty of activities, zip wire, kayak`s riding etc which are all local, It`s a lovely area for walking and cycling and fishing
we have secure gated parking, also undercover parking for motorbikes we are surrounded by farmland and forest. overlooked by Mont Mangatin which has a lovely track to walk through, There are some very nice restaurants in Domfront 10 minutes away,
  • excellent reception. small cozy and warm home. We really enjoyed it.

  • Dave and Sue are great hosts, and the place is lovely! Private chalet, clean, cozy, and we had a great time with a comfortable stay.

    Luiz Roberto2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a perfect place to base yourself if you are travelling around the area. Self contained it has all the amenities you need and is well placed on the main road, just a few minutes from Domfront and with a large hypermarket and petrol station just up the road. Dave and Sue are very welcoming and helpful, and their border collies are beautiful.

    Phil2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent and warm welcome from Dave and Sue. The little house was charming in its green setting and well heated by the pellet stove, which creates a very friendly atmosphere. We hope to return in a milder season to enjoy a lunch under the arbor.

    Frédéric2019-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • A British welcome by Dave and Sue, generous and super nice .. Very cozy and well equipped accommodation on a small estate very nicely arranged ..

Our gite attached to our house but separate is situated in a quiet village with a shop/bar/restaurant near the forest of Andaine. The interesting towns of Domfront, Bagnoles d'Orne, and Flers are within easy reach. Le Mans is approximately 90 mins.
  • Very cozy duplex. Perfect for two people. A beautiful enclosed garden which our dog and ourselves could enjoy. Ideally located to visit Domfront, Lassay, Bagnoles or enjoy Andaine forest.

  • A fine AirBnB in a great location.

    Paul2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous little gîte - clean and well presented. Small but bijou it feels light and airy due to its decor and thoughtful layout. The spiral staircase is definitely not for those who have mobility issues and the bedroom and bathroom are on the ground floor with the kitchen living room on the floor above. The hosts were friendly and made us feel welcome even extending us the use of their beautiful garden. Even our grumpy dog chilled out and decided to get along with their doggy, Jimmy. Highly recommend.

    Carol2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is just perfect with a wonderful garden overlooking the village church. A very quiet place with all you need to have a good time. I highly recommend.

    Ines2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Super relaxing space in a cosy and welcoming environment.

    Bobby2019-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little gite - perfect for two people. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Well equipped. Unfortunately as the weather was bad we didn't get to sit out in the lovely garden but there is a table and chairs out for gite guests to use. Rosemary and her husband are fun and friendly and full of great suggestions about the area. We would visit again.

  • The cottage is spacious, functional, and nicely decorated. Nestled in the heart of the Normandy countryside, you will not find more calm! It is very well located to enjoy Domfront and many small villages around ...! The house lacks nothing, and the bedding is very comfortable, we slept particularly well. We highly recommend!

  • This cottage is particularly pleasant to spend holidays and rest. There is nothing missing. The calm of the countryside and the proximity of interests are an undeniable asset, without forgetting the kindness and the quality of the reception of Béatrice and Laurent. In short, a perfect address for those who want to discover in peace the department of Orne but also the Mayenne and part of the Channel.

Our small gite attached to our house is set in a quiet village with a shop/bar to buy your bread and croissants and is located near the forest of Andaines and within easy reach of many attractive towns including Domfront, Bagnoles d'Orne, Flers and Mayenne. The famous race circuit of Le Mans is approximately 90 mins in the car
The gite is upside down. The bedroom and bathroom are at street level and the kitchen/lounge is up a spiral staircase onto the garden level.
  • Unfortunately, we were in the apartment only for a week. Although on a busy daytime road, it is a very quiet relaxing place. The small terrace overlooking the great garden is a wonderful place for relaxation. The apartment is on two floors, bedroom and a large bathroom are in the lower floor the kitchen is via a steep narrow spiral staircase upwards. The decor is lovely and a bit romantic, which was just right for us. All in all, it is clean and very comfortable, the decor is very neat. For trips to the really enchanting little towns and for walking in the nearby forests, it is ideal. We would have liked to stay longer and can really recommend it

    Christiana2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful stay. The cottage is very warm, cozy, welcoming, well equipped with a beautiful landscaped garden. The Baroche sous Lucé is a very quiet, peaceful village, typical of Normandy. Rosemary and her family are extremely hospitable, spontaneous and available to render services. Thank you very much.

    John2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Gite Lavande is a great little place to explore the local area. Our hosts were very welcoming and gave good tips on places to eat and visit. We really enjoyed our stay there.

    Danielle2018-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Unbeatable value for a real micro-house with a real bed and bathroom-WC downstairs, kitchen-living room upstairs and especially beautiful exteriors to eat on a beautiful terrace overlooking a large garden. The house is near the road but no inconvenience because no night passage and you can park in front of the door. Rosemary is friendly and discreet and will welcome you with her beautiful English accent. I speak English like a spanish cow Rosemary but you're home is absolutely delicious! Thank you for all!

    Christian2018-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • You will be very welcome. The place is as described. It's good to live there.

    Anne2018-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • nice little atypical cottage very clean it has not indicated on the ad but the cottage has a large bathroom and a large private terrace overlooking a garden finally without hesitation to recommend

    Lionel2018-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • The kindness of the hosts, their availability, their charming English accent and the practical aspect of their accommodation. Usually in a bed and breakfast we do not have a kitchen or dining room particular but here we can cook and rest even in the garden on sun loungers ...

  • We had a short but lovely nights stay in Martine's yurt on our way along the brittany coast. The yurt was comfortable and had everything you could need. The shed outbuildings which house the toilets and kitchen were functional and sitting outside for breakfast was lovely. Martine was very welcoming and spoke good English.

The sounds of the animals, flavours of the flowers etc etc. Martine provides excellent breakfasts and is a very hospitable, warm and kind personality. Normandy is a region rich in history, beautiful countryside, beaches and visitor attractions. Our Instagram account features more recommendations and some of the places we have visited (@lebaschenay). Domfront sits in the middle of the Normandy Bocage. Bocage refers to the ancient method of raised borders around the fields that give the region its beauty. The countryside is green and undulating. It is perfect for walking, cycling and touring. Normandy is full of easy-to-follow walking routes and cycling paths, many of which follow disused single-track railway lines. If it is beaches you prefer you have a multitude to choose from: Carolles, Deauville, Trouville , Granville and Ouistreham. Domfront - home town of Le Bas Chenay, with the remains of the ancient chateau, medieval churches, cobbled streets and centuries-old buildings and historical links to England. With its turrets and winding streets, Domfront offers a touch of Medieval romance to temper the raw immediacy of the WW2 sites. Eleanor of Aquitaine – arguably Europes wealthiest, most powerful and cultured royal matriarch, and wife of Henry II, the Plantagenet King of England - had a court here in the middle of the 12th century. A hundred years earlier, William the Conqueror laid siege to its castle. Medieval barons fought in Orne over their power bases at Domfront, Chambois and Mortagne. Or against the English, who occupied the Orne capital, Alençon, for nearly a hundred years. For the children there is Festyland at Caen, The Enchanted Village at Belle Fontaine, the Zoo at Jurques and the water park at St Hilaire de Harcouet. Normandy is blessed with three world class attractions: Abbaye du Mont-Saint-Michel: The Benedictine Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel is one of the most remarkable examples of mediaeval religious and military architecture and was one of Christianity's most important pilgrimage sites from the 8th to the 18th century. The Abbey comprises a superb ensemble of clerical buildings including the abbey church, the cloister, the refectory, the monks ambulatory and the gardens of what has been known as the "Merveille" (Marvel) since the 12th century. Open all year round and open until late in the summer months. The Landing Beaches: A multitude of museums pay tribute to the soldiers who came ashore on D-Day. The beaches stretch from Ouistreheam to the Contentin peninsula. They had code named Omaha, Sword, Juno, Gold and Utah. There is a museum at Sainte-Mère-Eglise, dedicated to the American 82nd Airborne division. Today, you can relive their stories and the epic 1944 struggle across a network of battle sites, museums and memorials and via a series of special 'Battle of Normandy'. Bayeux Tapestry: Bayeux home of the tapestry and a charming medieval town. The tapestry depicts events leading up to the Norman conquest of England. From Domfront, an alternative route along another greenway takes you to Flers via the charming Varenne Valley. Caen - chateau, abbeys, museums and shopping. Falaise - William the Conqueror's chateau and the Falaise pocket that mark the end of the battle of Normandy. Alencon - departmental capital of the Orne . Bagnoles de l Orne - the biggest spa town in western France, a charming town set around a large lake, overlooked by the casino. At night, Bagnoles is said to be a Town of Thousand Lights as the Casino and the town's glitzy restaurants come to life. Carrouges - a brick chateau with moat and rare apple orchards. Lassay les Chateaux - unusual chateau with round towers. Pear Cider and Calvados: Orne's lush orchards comes vintage calvados, cool cider, pommeau - and poiré, a refreshing, sparkling pear cider that is Ornes speciality, signature drink and Poire Museum - discover the local pear cider and calvados. Le Bas Chesnay is a bed and breakfast set in a delightful detached old barn full of character. It offers a separate entrance and a lounge. Both bedrooms are upstairs from the lounge and have their own bathrooms. Most guests are either active explorers of the area or seek a place to quietly relax and unwind. The Historical Medieval town of Domfront is 5 minutes’ drive away and an Intermarche only 2 minutes drive. Find us on Instagram @lebaschenay.
We have two bedrooms at Le Bas the Maple and the Rose rooms , sleeping a total of four people. Therefore, there may be times that you will be sharing the lounge/breakfast area with other guests. If you wish to book our other room (the Rose Room ) as well as the Maple room, please click on the link https://airbnb.com/h/lebaschesnayrosedomfront. Our lounge/breakfast area is a comfortable space to relax in, we have magazines, record player, tea and coffee making facilities, as well as a lovely log burner for those chilly nights. The bedrooms each have 2 single beds with their own en-suite shower room, with complimentary toiletries. A Hairdryer is also available in each room.
WELCOME to Le Bas Chesnay. We purchased La Bas in November 2018; we fell in love with the property as soon as we turned the corner into the start of what is now our land. France is our permanent home, we live on site, with our two border collies Blu and Skye and cat called Bear. We wake up every day and pinch ourselves because we know we are so lucky to live in this part of France and all that it has to offer. We are lucky enough to be in the Parc Naturel Regional Normandia-Maine which covers 257,000 hectares across two regions and four departments (One, Manche, Mayenne and Sarthe. Our home is set in 2.5 acres of very peaceful countryside surrounded by working farmland, with sheep and cows a plenty. Although, once here you feel you are in the middle of nowhere, we are in fact only 2 minutes and 5 minutes’ drive from a supermarket and the Historical Medieval town of Domfront. When we purchased the property, we decided to open two of the bedrooms as Chambres d’ Hôtes. They are called Maple (as we have a wonderful Maple tree in our garden) and Rose (as we have an abundance of roses at the front of the property). Both rooms can accommodate two people and have en-suite shower rooms. You will find plenty of character with exposed old beams, stonework and log burner in the lounge/breakfast area for the chilli nights. The lounge /breakfast area is a shared space with the other chambres d’ hôtes guests. Both rooms and our gite (which also sleeps 4) are advertised on Airbnb. A little bit of background on the various ways the property is spelt. We have 3 different spellings for our home: Le Bas Chesnay, Le Bas Chenay and Le Bas Chenais. Le Chesnay is recognised by the Le poste Le Bas Chenais is the name on google map, which will not recognise any other spelling. Le Bas Chenay was the how the previous owners spelt it. Despite this, it is the same property and not three individual ones Normandy is beautiful and has so much to offer. Le Bas Chesnay is an ideal base to explore all that the region has, there is something for everyone, especially for travellers who have not ventured abroad before, or for the hardened tourers whether it is on two or four wheels, Normandy is a great place to visit. We offer a great stop over en-route to other destinations as well as for those travellers who want to spend some more time discovering Normandy. The local area has a variety of recreational activities, forest walks, cycle routes, mountain bike routes, excellent for road and off-road biking, golf, tennis, kayaking, swimming, spa town or an ideal base for house hunting. Equally if you just want to get away from your busy life and relax this is the ideal place, to kick back, read books, listen to music or just the bird song in beautiful surroundings and in one of the most peaceful settings we have ever experienced. For the two wheeler tourers we have plenty of undercover /secure parking for your bikes/motorbikes as well as a workshop to carry out basic maintenance or to wash your bikes down. • I did not spend enough time on the spot to write a long note! However, my hosts were very friendly and discreet, and welcomed me very well. Their accommodation was perfectly clean and there was a very nice living room in which I ate an excellent breakfast.

  • I would give this place 100 stars if I could, everything about it is exceptional! After three difficult days on our bikes we were welcomed with open arms (and a beer each) and made to feel at home. Paul gave us a lift in to town and then picked us up again!! If you are planning a trip anywhere nearby this is the place to stay. Jeannie even found us some bacon for breakfast and Paul let us use whatever we needed from his workshop to get our bikes in good shape before we left (although none of us really wanted to leave). Thanks again for everything!!!!

  • This was one of the best B&B's that I have ever stayed in. If you are looking for somewhere that offers all the classic amenities of a B&B with wonderful hosts then I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The care and hospitality that was shown throughout my brief stay was of the highest quality. I felt that any and all of my needs were catered for. The fact that the hosts were happy and willing to go above and beyond made this stay really special. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in the area then look no further you have found the right spot.

Le Bas Chesnay is a bed and breakfast set in a delightful detached old barn full of character. It offers a separate entrance and a lounge .
When you book both rooms you and your guests have exclusive use of the lounge area . Our lounge/breakfast area is a comfortable space to relax in, we have magazines, record player, tea and coffee making facilities, as well as a lovely log burner for those chilly nights. The bedrooms , each have 2 single beds with their own en-suite shower room, with complimentary toiletries. A Hairdryer is also available in each room.
WELCOME to Le Bas Chesnay. We purchased La Bas in November 2018; and fell in love with the property as soon as we turned the corner into the start of what is now our land. France is our permanent home, we live on site, with our two border collies Blu and Skye and cat called Bear. We wake up every day and pinch ourselves because we know we are so lucky to live in this part of France and all that it has to offer. We are lucky enough to be in the Parc Naturel Regional Normandia-Maine which covers 257,000 hectares across two regions and four departments (One, Manche,Mayenne and Sarthe. Although our driveway is gravel it is firm enough for motorbikes. The local area has a variety of recreational activities, forest walks, cycle /mountain bike routes, excellent road and off road biking, golf, swimming, tennis kayaking, the list is endless. However, if you want to get away from your busy life and relax , kick back, read a book, listen to music or just the bird song in beautiful surroundings Le Bas has it in abundance as well as being set in one of the most peaceful areas we have ever experienced. It is perfect for walking, cycling, motorbiking and touring. For the more active (or adventurous), there is bungy jumping at Clècy, canoeing at Torchamp or Thury Harcourt. For the children there is Festyland at Caen, The Enchanted Village at Belle Fontaine, the Zoo at Jurques and the water park at St Hilaire de Harcouet. There are also excellent swimming pools at Flers, Thury Harcout and Bagnoles de l Orne. Also, well worth a visit are: Veloscenic cycle route Paris to Mont – St – Michel: From Domfront, you can join the cycle route to Mont-St-Michel, this section of La Véloscénie to the Mont St-Michel follows a greenway along a disused railway line going through the typical quiet countryside of the Bocage Normand. This area is reputed for its apple and pear orchards and its gastronomy. You'll pass the pretty villages of Mortain and Ducey. The craftsmanship of Alençon needle lace, is the latest to be recognised by UNESCO, because of its traditional Alencon lace, which takes 25 hours to produce a piece the size of a postage stamp – kept alive through the National Lace Workshop in Alencon. Visitors can explore the world of needle lace at the Museum of Fine Art and Lace (Musée des Beaux-Arts et de la Dentelle) in Alençon. Bagnoles de l Orne - the biggest spa town in western France, a charming town set around a large lake, overlooked by the casino. Hot stones, mud baths … you name it, Bagnoles has got it and in every combination. As well, of course, as the towns renowned panacea, the classic spa waters with their antioxidant trace elements. Clècy - centre of Suisse Normandy, restaurants and bars on the river side. Le Ferte - Mace. Extensive leisure park of 28 hectares, the lake of La Ferte-Mace is fully equipped to offer a variety of activities and fun for the whole family. Swimming, windsurfing, pedal boats, horseback riding, canoeing, mini-golf as well as having its own beach. Horse Racing: there are race courses at Argentan, Moulins-la-Marche, Alençon and la Bergerie au Pin-au-Haras. National stud: Le Haras du Pin. Furioso, Workaholic, Cruiser, Policy Maker, Florestan, El Ouassal and other hallowed names have all been put to stud or stabled here. If it is heritage you are seeking, meet the Percheron, Orne is the birthplace of this docile giant, which for centuries powered French agriculture and carried France s knights into battle.

Chalet de la Falaise translates to Cliff Cottage. Its an adorable detached Cottage situated 5 minutes away from the beautiful Medieval town of Domfront. I fell in love with this cottage at first sight and have renovated it to a high standard over the last year. The cottage is looked after by my dear friends Steve and Jean Fawcett who live just over the road. Domfront is a stunning town with an assortment of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. The castle ruins are a must to explore.
You have full use of the house and outside space, which includes a stone built BBQ, decked area with table and chairs and sun loungers. Off road parking availabe at the side of the cottage. The stairs leading to the bedrooms are quite steep as in most traditonal French houses.
Domfront is a stunning medeival town with supermarkets, shops, Boulangerie's, make the most amazing pastries and fresh bread. There are also Bars, Restaurants and Cafe's. The Château de Domfront is a ruined castle in the town of Domfront. The Château de Domfront has been protected as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture since 1875. There are a number of Geocache's in the local area for you to hunt and find. There is also a lovely converted former railway line ideal for cycling and walking called The Veloscenic cycle route that runs from Paris to Mont St Michel.
  • If your looking for the perfect base for a holiday this cottages perfect. . We were met by Steve who was really hospitable and made us feel very welcome. The cottage had everything we needed and more. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone and the price was superb value for money x

  • We stayed at Cliff Cottage for 10 days and it certainly did not disappoint. It is a wonderful place that accommodated two adults and two children nicely. It is a lovely spot and it has outside space to enjoy the evenings with a nice glass of something under the stars. It had everything that we needed - Vicky seems to have covered everything including fans which was great as we were there during some very hot weather. Steve and Jean - friends of the owner- were always available to answer any questions we had and they went the extra mile to let us know about events that the kids would enjoy. Vicky also messaged part way through our stay to ask if everything was ok. Vicky was very helpful in the weeks leading up to our stay letting us know towns / activities that were great for kids. A great little place to stay to explore Normandy and beyond.

  • A very lovely home in the middle of the most beautiful nature of Normandie. The house is very well equiped. Most of the things are new. The house was very clean and tastefully arranged. Besides the house was a nice balcony, bathing in the sunlight. Very nice to relax. The welcome was warm and all good organised. I would definitly recommend this house and place for a nice holliday.

  • The cottage was perfect. The whole picture was complete, including the pillows, blankets and candles. It felt immediately at home. Also the kitchen was well equipped, including the stuff you would forget while you are going on holiday, like salt, pepper and oil. Top!

Le Bas Chesnay is a bed and breakfast set in a delightful detached old barn full of character. It offers a separate entrance and a lounge .
If you wish to book both rooms ( Maple and Rose), there is a separate listing on airbnb for you to book the rooms at the same time. Our lounge/breakfast area is a comfortable space to relax in, we have magazines, record player, tea and coffee making facilities, as well as a lovely log burner for those chilly nights. This area may be shared with other guests.
France is now our permanent home, we live on site, with our two border collies Blu and Skye and cat called Bear. We wake up every day and pinch ourselves because we know we are so lucky to live in this part of France and all that it has to offer. The lounge /breakfast area wh is a shared space with the other chambres d’ hôtes guests. It is perfect for walking, cycling, motorbiking and touring.
