“We live only minutes away from this amazing bay. In summer its the best place to swim, paddleboard and kayak. It is also great to just take a blanket and a book down there to chill. Remember to take sand fly repellent and in summer an unbrella is a added bonus. There is also the famous W2K track that starts here for both walking and mountain biking.”

“The iconic Maori Rock Carvings in Mine Bay are only accessible by boat. You can kayak to the carvings (Taupo Kayaking Adventures or Canoe & Kayak), or take a scenic cruise - by charter or scenic cruise boat or yacht (Sail Barbary highly recommended). Take a fishing charter and add it to the experience of catching a Taupo trout!”

“These spectacular carvings rise straight out of the crystal clear waters of Lake Taupo. Accessed by water but there are cheap tour options from the Taupo Boat Harbour. I like to tell people that the carvings date from ancient times but in fact they were carved only about 30 years ago by master Maori craftsmen.”
