Places to stay in Kilmington
Little Staddles is a contemporary cedar clad chalet, set in a pretty woodland, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's the perfect place to relax and unwind, with a huge cosy bed, woodburner, bath and kitchen area.
Little Staddles has been designed as a luxurious hideaway - a place where you can listen to the woodpeckers and owls and maybe spot a deer roaming in the woodland whilst soaking in the freestanding bath. Adjacent to our family home Little Staddles is the perfect retreat. Exterior Little Staddles is a separate building. It has its own access with private off road parking and a very private decked area with sun loungers, chimnea/bbq and a table. This space has been carefully landscaped with wild flowers and shrubs. The accommodation is located up steps and accessed from its balcony which has a beautiful sunny aspect. Interior There is a cosy seating area with LED television and a wood burner, including a large supply of logs. The open plan space also has a kitchen area with breakfast bar, sink, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave oven, toaster, kettle, 2 ring gas hob and all you need to make breakfast or simple meals. There is a Bialetti espresso gas top maker, a cafetière and a lavazza milk heater and frothier to make the perfect coffee! There is a superking size bed with a sumptuous goose down duvet and mattress topper which should ensure a great nights sleep. The bathroom is indulgent, with a freestanding bath where you can relax and enjoy the woodland views and there is a very spacious walk in shower. There is also an ipod dock, Dab radio and wifi.
On our doorstep are some lovely walks into the woodlands and down to River Cottage H.Q. (which is a 30 minute walk away), or you can walk into Lyme Regis (which takes about an hour). A 10 minute drive will also have you in Lyme Regis, where you can stumble upon lovely cafes and restaurants, artisan shops and galleries, stroll along the seafront, find a fossil or two or simply sit and relax. This, the Jurassic Coastline is an area full of dramatic scenery and beautiful coastal walks. I will try and put photos of the local area and details of any local events on our (website hidden) page, Little Staddles
  • Claire is so great with communication and there for anything you need. This is probably the calmest and most relaxing Airbnb I’ve ever stayed in and just what I needed. Spotless, beautiful and cosy. Hope to return in the future. So lovely to feel like you’re out in the sticks but just a short drive from many great locations. I particularly loved the golden cap walk suggested by Claire. Such a great stay.

  • We had a lovely stay at the hideaway. Would highly recommend for a cosy break. The road up the accommodation is quite steep but is fine for a car.

  • This is really a top notch Airbnb. Its stylish and super comfortable, ideal for a weekend break for 2. The place is very modern with well designed features and ameneties. Its one open plan space (bed, living and kitchen) but is not what you'd describe as a studio. The thoughtful architecture makes it feel like separate rooms. The bathroom is really special, lovely fittings and immaculately presented. Loved it! Claire is also charming and very helpful.

  • Beautiful little place. Very serene surroundings and perfectly situated to explore Dorset and Devon.

    Patrick2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect hide away for 2. The apartment is compact so wonderfully cosy, but at the same time has every amenity you could need. Stunning location. Perfect for River Cottage (walkable but would only recommend it in the summer) less than 5 minutes drive away.

  • By far the nicest air bnb we have been too. Beautiful venue, perfect to relax and unwind. Very clean and modern with lots of little personal touches. Super comfy bed and the most amazing bathroom ever! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it highly.

  • We had an amazing time at Little Staddles! Perfect location and such a lovely apartment - beautifully decorated with so many nice touches. The pictures don’t do it justice, it is so modern and luxurious! We will definitely be back - it was the perfect mini break for 2! Thanks so much Claire x

One of the most popular properties in the UK on Airbnb! Great value for this amazing cosy log cabin. This property is extremely popular and has amazing reviews. Comfy with amazing views make this the perfect place to stay on holiday. Valley lodge is tucked away with lovely views of the valley and the sea beyond, secluded with a Sunny open plan living room, kitchen/dining and sofas around the wood burner. Delightful walks from the cabin and Very near Lyme Regis on the beautiful Jurassic Coast.
Coronavirus- You could quite happily self isolate here as this property is away from lots of houses and people but you are not very far away from civilisation if you need anything !!! Please be assured that due to the current situation I am making sure this property is cleaned thoroughly with AnitVirus products and every door knob , light switch and surface has been given special attention. This lovely property is completely self contained and there is only 1 confirmed case in the whole of Dorset ( 14/3/20). Whilst I appreciate the huge concern I am wanting guests to understand that you can come here to get away from it all and relax and spend some quality time in a beautiful location. As soon as you walk into the cabin, you know that there is something special about being surrounded by wood. The open plan living space works really well too. It means that whoever is cooking can still chat with friends and family while they are relaxing on the sofas. So no one is left out. And the views are amazing. The cabin is open plan living, with 2 double bedrooms a shower room and utility with washer/dryer. We will leave you some kindling and a few logs for the woodburner. The petrol station sells wood if you need more. There is Parking outside for two cars. Decking with picnic table. Enclosed garden with grass lawns. Bring your BBQ and entertain amongst these wonderful views. You can all Relax in the knowledge that your dogs and children will be safe from escaping with a good secure fence all around the property. Guests are given complete privacy. We are around, however, if there is a problem. Uplyme is very convenient. It is easy to get to from the main road and Lyme Regis is only 5 minutes by car. There is a lovely walk from the cabin down the river valley to the sea (map in the cabin). It takes about 40 minutes on foot. Other beautiful places to walk, like Golden Cap, also on the coast are not too far away. Lyme itself is charming and quirky. it is the most beautiful town and extremely popular. Lyme Regis has made the top ten places to stay by both The Times and The Guardian and we have many a famous visitor staying here and ITV’ s travel expert ‘Simon Calder’ has visited regularly and highly recommends this gorgeous town. Lyme Regis is unspoilt and with its amazing scenery and strong arty vibe it remains one of the most searched for places to stay in the UK. It has lots of independent shops and cafes too which make it a perfect place to holiday or visit. The local petrol station in Uplyme has a brilliant shop and post office if you need anything quickly. The best places to buy food are either Axminster where there is a good butcher, or Felicity's Farm shop on the way to Bridport but the farm shop in Kilmington is where us locals shop and it is a great place to buy gifts and find special food and it even has a fresh fishmongers and florist ! Superstores- Waitrose in Bridport. Tesco’s stores are in Axminster and Seaton and Lyme Regis has a smaller Tescos and Coop There is a bus from Uplyme to Lyme Regis or Axminster. The nearest mainline station is at Axminster which is about 10 minutes away. There is parking for two cars outside the log cabin. We provide bedlinen and bath towels, but not beach towels. So please bring your own if you want to spend time on the beach. Lyme has a lovely sandy area of beach, right by the pub for adults and safe for children. The cabin is wonderful and we have had some fantastic reviews. This beautiful gem is one of the most popular properties on Airbnb in the uk and our repeat guests that come back each year is testament that this place is pretty special! The area is ideal for holidays and there is lots to do or if you prefer you can do absolutely nothing except relax , read a good book with a glass of wine and just enjoy the peace and tranquility of the cabin. If you want a holiday with straight lines , minimal decor and lots of Crome then the cabin is not for you but if you like warmth, cosy , rustic surroundings , lots of nature, stunning views , good pubs and fantastic food, then this place is ideal !
There is also lots do to locally and there are some wonderful places to eat out in Lyme Regis. There is Hix's famous seafood restaurant and River cottage in Axminster are both amazing. Also there is lots of good restaurants and pubs in Lyme Regis and there is also a great Indian restaurant in Lyme , a Thai restaurant and on the sandy part of the beach there are two highly recommended pubs called The standard and The Harbour. You will find these are some great places to eat and drink whilst enjoying the stunning views which overlook the world famous cobb. Pub of the year is just down the road which is The Anchor Inn in Seatown Places for children- Lyme museum Sea world, Weymouth Crealy Adventure park ( rides , rollercoasters and a great day out) - about 25 minutes away between Sidmouth and Exeter. The donkey Sanctuary nr Sidmouth Abbotsbury Swannery Go climb - Exeter Charmouth tunnel - which is very local to here has a shooting range and a tree tops course.
  • A delightful and cosy log cabin. Very comfy bed. Wonderful area. A place to escape and relax. Great walks to Lyme Regis.

  • We had a great stay at Caroline’s place. She had left homemade bread, granola, muffins and brownies as well as butter, eggs, juice and milk in the fridge. We were looking for a cosy cottage to spend a few relaxing days reading and walking and the cottage was perfect for that. Small touches like the robes and slippers that were left were lovely. It is also a short drive to Lyme Regis for a great fish and chips, local restaurants and shops. I would definitely stay here again!

    Lucy2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely little place, good walking, the beach is great and almost deserted. Easy drive to Lyme Regis or Seaton. The hospitality included some really nice touches that we appreciated.

  • A lovely cottage in an amazing location.

    Venetia2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect little hideaway. The cottage felt so homely. We spent a great christmas here enjoying being sat by the fire. Caroline was an excellant host; from checking in with us to all of the delicious homebaked goodies there to welcome us. This is a well maintained, well set up and well equipped cottage in a beautiful location.

    Emma2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place to stay and enjoy the beautiful Jurassic Coast. Caroline is an excellent host who made us feel very welcome. The house is very cosy and comes with the best amenities we have ever had (Sourdough, brownies, muffins. . . . . . )

Peaceful self-contained studio apartment adjoining owners' eco-house set in its own woodland and wild meadows with spectacular sea views from garden. Beautiful walks to Lyme (2 miles) & River Cottage (1 mile). Stunning retreat in nature. Walkers/bird-lovers/foodies paradise. 1 of 2 studios with plenty of outside space. This is the larger of the 2 with a bath instead of a shower, a bigger kitchen and distinct areas for kitchen and bedroom.
A former artist's studio, the apartment is a modern airy space within a wild, woodland setting. It has been newly decorated (and redecorated January 2017) throughout and has a particularly spacious bathroom with a large comfortable bath and views out to the woods to the south and a wild flower bank and natural spring to the west. It is perfectly located for some truly wonderful walks: the East Devon Way adjoins the property and there are several beautiful routes through the countryside to Lyme Regis, including the River Way along the River Lyme into the centre of town. It's about an hour's walk to the Cobb or to the Town Mill cluster of shops, restaurants and galleries or 10 minutes' drive. You can have a great day on the beach or walking and then come home to the seclusion of the woods and meadows. We have some of the best bird and wildlife around. You will hear owls calling in the evenings and maybe spot a badger snuffling about in the garden. Bird-feeders are positioned opposite the bedroom and bathroom windows so you can watch in comfort. We are in the process of restoring the wild meadows and have a mass of wild orchids, bluebells, foxgloves and native daffodils, depending on the time of year. There are views of Lyme Bay and the island of Portland from the top meadow where a bench is provided for your use. The room is designed mainly for 2 people but we do have a z-bed (fold-out bed) to accommodate an extra person. The main bed is a king-size with a slatted base and a soft reflex foam mattress. The bedlinen is 100% Egyptian cotton. We now have a new TV for the room and a music system with a cable to plug in your phone/ipod. There is a DVD player in the room.
This is a fantastic setting for a holiday with the gorgeous and wild beaches of East Devon and West Dorset on the doorstep, the outstanding Jurassic Coast with its National Trust walks, fossil hunting, fishing, sailing and kayaking opportunities, and a huge network of footpaths and bridleways immediately accessible from the house. It is also foodie heaven. River Cottage HQ at Park Farm is just the other side of the woods and can be reached by road or on foot. It's about 30/40 mins walk up the lane and through the woods. The more informal River Cottage Canteen is just 2 miles away in Axminster. In Lyme Regis (also 2 miles) is Mark Hix's Oyster House with knock-out views across the bay to Portland and also the Harbour Inn right on the front which does fantastic fish and has a seating area on the beach. There are lots of lovely bakeries and coffee spots, a theatre and many quirky independent shops. Lyme Regis, Axminster, Bridport and Seaton are all great little towns with their own characters.
  • A lovely, peaceful woodland spot. (We saw 17 different species of garden birds in just three days)! Perfect for a peaceful retreat away from the busy world.

    Harry2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Tucked away up a bumpy road lays a set of grand gates that open automatically on your arrival. As you drive through the gates be careful of the centre piece gate stopper, if your car is low, otherwise you'll hear the same noise we did! There was plenty of space to park our car and Chris was very kind and showed us where our accommodation was, giving us a brief explanation of how to use the facilities. He also was able to tell us how to find our way into Lyme Regis on foot with a recomendation of a great coffee shop. We enjoyed our stay....Thank you.

    Abi2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning and stylish studio, good value for money and kind hosts. We loved it and we will be back when we can. The space is bigger than it looks in photos and peaceful. We woke up and watched birds and squirrels out the window. Great time out for busy people!!

    Aimee2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A superbly equipped haven in beautiful surroundings with thoughtful and generous hosts.

    Suzy2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • A cosy and comfortable hideaway up the hill from Yawl. A great location for exploring the surrounding woodlands, or a walk down to Lyme. The small kitchen has all you need and there were complimentary biscuits and milk. Recommended. Thanks Jules and Chris

    Carl2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, bright and modern. A warm welcome from beginning to end. Chris & Jules live in a beautiful part of the country :) Would stay here again!

    Lucy2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a glorious place to stay in a fabulous setting. Jules was really helpful explaining the walks and chris surpassed all expectation by helping to start my dead car. The place was so pretty and spotless and the sauna was a great extra which I took advantage of. If you were staying right in Lyme you might never discover the wonderful river lym walk that I went on to get into town following the river until it reached the Lyme mill. A truly wonderful autumn retreat!

    Teresa2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • All of the reviews do not lie with this place! The most attentive and lovely hosts, and the space they have it just unbelievable gorgeous. Jules was really helpful and recommended the best food place we've visited in a long time. The area was great for lots of nice walks and just up the road from lyme regis. Cant wait to stay again!

The hut was so cosy and comforting and packed full of lovely little goodies like chocolates and croissants. Perfect for snuggling! Also, would be great as a comfortable base to explore the beautiful local conutryside. Ei's instructions were spot on and also the info given on the surrounding area was great too :)

  • Would 100% recommend staying hefe. If you are thinking about it..do it! It provides a peaceful getaway in a beautiful location woth lots nearby to explore. The hut is super comfy and cosy. It heated up very easily with the log burning stove. We enjoyed our breakfast outside with beautiful views over the fields. We had a super stay and Ei was always very quick to respond to messages, very helpful and there were lots of thoughtful touches in the hut.

    Emily2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much Ei for your warm & welcoming hospitality. The Shepherd's Hut is so warm & cosy with everything you need. It definitely has the WOW factor. The breakfast & other goodies were very thoughtful. We loved the views, the star gazing; such a little gem in a calm & tranquil setting. We will stay longer next time! Thank you again, Lee & Chris.

Would recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful get away. Defiantly will be coming back in the not so distant future!

    George2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had an incredible few nights in this beautiful shepherd's hut. Ei is the best host ever! This hut is thoughtfully decorated with beautiful pictures of hares and other nature. The space has everything you need for your stay and the views from bed are amazing! We spent many hours starwatching and listening to hooting tawny owls. And woke up late as we couldn't stop birdwatching from bed in the mornings. The fire makes it toasty warm and it's the most romantic place and really private. Bed is really comfy, shower is excellent and the breakfast was perfect for relaxing in the mornings. We can't wait to return.

    Emily2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Ei was very welcoming and went the extra mile ,leaving nice surprises for us. The hut was beautiful and we already miss the local owls

    Jess2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The shepherd's cottage was everything I expected and more! I can't think of ANYTHING that was not considered in the details. There was also a cheese plate and prosecco in the refrigerator along with other snacks and drinks in addition to croissants, coffee, tea, milk etc. The cottage is very cozy with wonderful and relaxing views and beautiful areas to walk. I would definitely return on another venture to the area. Thanks, Ei!

  • At the one year anniversary of my mother and brothers sudden death I was looking for somewhere to stay that was secluded and would take me away from the daily humdrum of life and this property did not disappoint. The lodge was absolutely stunning and the scenery was gorgeous. Waking up to hearing only the birds singing and going to sleep in blissful silence is something hard to find but not here! The lodge was exceptionally well equipped with everything you need to be holed up, the log fire was lovely in the evenings and the large dining table was surprisingly useful, we ate one end and used the other for our never ending game of monopoly. The bed was comfy and the room smelt divine. The bath was a blissful added extra. The generator was easy to use if you needed electricity but to be honest we hardly used it, the plentiful candles were enough for us. The kitchen included everything you need, loved the Aga. All in all, we were sad to leave and would love to return.

  • Such a beautiful spot! Our boys loved it so much they asked if they could extend our stay for a year..! We spotted 10 deer on our early morning walk and countless songbirds and pheasants. Peaceful evenings by candlelight (/minus WiFi) brought much needed relaxation and wonderful family time. Thank you!

  • Alice's Barn really is such a hidden gem. My girls aged 9 and 10 were a little nervous about spending 3 days without a TV but they loved it as did we. The barn is so special in every way, and helps you reconnect with nature and most importantly one an other. There is a lovely roll top bath that's not shown in the pictures too which is a treat. We used the generator at meals time, just so as we had a little more light but other than that enjoyed candle lit evenings and cozy mornings. Highly recommend this getaway for anyone's family.

300 year old thatched cottage is neat, cosy, comfy and quirky - like its owner! Suits anyone wanting to relax, read, retreat etc. To connect to the outside world you will need your own wifi or go 20 yards to the local pub, where you can enjoy a great meal! Take the private path to my garden, which is dog-safe. Small to medium dogs are welcome. Kitchen is compact but fully equipped. Great location for walkers and cyclists; numerous beaches within a 15 minute drive.
Think its quite unique as it’s not a typical renting with everything matching, plates etc., and maybe the quantity of literature gives abit more variety.
Very friendly, beautiful places to walk or cycle, convenient to trains, town and beaches.
  • A wonderful traditional/modern cottage with everything in order and well presented. To feel like a local this place is a must :)

The location is perfect for a short stay and we managed trips to Branscombe Beach, Seaton and the Lyme Bay winery and distillery. The neighbourhood around Kilmington has some lovely scenery and walks especially in the woods around Kilmington Hill. Would definitely bring Tim the dog to stay again.

Beautiful view from the room. Teas, coffee, bread, butter and marmalade was also a nice homely touch which we enjoyed in the morning. We were also greeted by 2 very friendly spaniels who wanted a little fuss. We met Anna briefly as we went up to our room to and a lovely lady she was.

  • Spent 4 nights at this cozy lodge as we were down for the Grizzly. Gordon showed us round and left us to it for our stay, which is just how we like it. We arrived to the fridge stocked with the essentials, which was very much appreciated. Very secluded Lodge with beautiful views and only a short drive to the beach. Thankyou for having us!

  • Really beautiful scenery! Great hosts and a fantastic Air BnB. We visited on a very cold week and the cabin was able to warm up hot enough for us. Was very quite. It’s really easy to get to loads of fantastic places like Lyne Regis, Beer, Sidmouth and Seaton. Absolutely worth visiting, we would definitely go again. This wasn’t a problem for us, but it’s worth knowing that the Wi-fi was very slow and we had no signal on our phones. Could be a problem for some people. Wasn’t a problem for us!

    Charlotte2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • Swallows cabin is very cute and cosy with great views and peacefulness to wake up to. You have everything in the cabin that you'll need and lots of information of lacal areas to visit. • Outstanding hosts who were a joy to be around. Gin and tonics on arrival, a fish curry, card games!! If all air bnb’s were like this it would be heaven. Comfortable bed, nice bathroom and dining room. High speed broadband and warm & cosy. Lisa is stunningly beautiful and Her partner a true gentleman. Five stars.

  • Booked this place for a Saturday night stay as it was very near to River cottage HQ, where we were going for a meal that evening. Contacted Lisa before booking to see would she allow us to bring our small dog, which she agreed to as we already had a few reviews that mentioned how well behaved she was. The bedroom was very clean with tea and coffee facilities and a large family bathroom. Would definitely recommend this Airbnb if you’re in the area.

  • A beautiful home and a very comfortable stay. The place is sparkling clean and the bed is a dream. The host couple are very welcoming and I felt safe and secure.

    Maria2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay with Lisa and her family just before Christmas. The location of their place is excellent - around five mins walk into town. We had no problem parking nearby - most of the time right outside. The house is very homely, tidy and clean. The room we stayed in was great, the bed was really comfy and having a kettle in the room was really useful. We felt very welcome and would definitely stay again. Such a lovely family - Highly recommended!

Fresh from being restored, this character cottage lets you experience the charm, peace and seclusion of country living whilst enjoying the comforts of modern life. Not only will you have the beauty of the Devonshire/Dorset countryside and Jurassic coast on your doorstep but in addition plenty of popular tourist attractions to keep you entertained during your stay.
Nestled in the peaceful, picturesque Devonshire countryside, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Balls Farm Cottage has been sympathetically restored, retaining period features including an inglenook fireplace with bread oven and flagstone floors. The cottage is light and airy with a generously sized handcrafted kitchen that opens onto its south facing flower garden, a perfect spot for enjoying those sunny summer days and evening barbecues, while the log burner in the sitting room will help to keep you toasty during the winter nights. Two newly installed washrooms will help with the demands of a busy family. A walk in shower on the first floor and a bath on the ground floor. The cottage enjoys a fine aspect with many rooms enjoying far-reaching countryside views over the Axe Valley.
The cottage was originally part of the adjoining property, Balls Farm, a 400 year old grade 2 listed farmhouse which features in literature on the Fosseway, the famous Roman Road which runs from Lincolnshire to Exeter. We are a small family living in Balls Farm. Balls Farm no longer runs as an active farm but both properties benefit from being surrounded by the fields it once owned. Relax and unwind while watching cows peacefully graze and enjoy the wildlife, including our friendly robin and a family of deer and goldfinch. We also often hear local owls and you might see a bat or two. The cottage is situated at the end of a long private drive through a field off of the A358. There is private parking for two cars next to the property with additional parking at Balls Farm available upon request.
Amenities are all within easy reach, we are conveniently situated less than 2 miles from the market town of Axminster, famous for its carpets and is also the home to the River Cottage Canteen. The popular tourist destination of Lyme Regis with its wealth of independent shops and eatery’s is only 5.7 miles away. Trill Farm (1 mile) and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall‘s River Cottage HQ (3.6 miles) both hosting meal and cooking experiences, are quick and easy to access. Other popular tourist attractions and places to visit in the area include Pecorama with its Beer Heights Light Railway, The Seaton Tramway, The Donkey Sanctuary, Seaton Wetlands (a flat wildlife sightseeing walk along the Axe estuary), Sidmouth, Honiton which is well known for its generous number of antique shops and fossil hunting along the Jurassic coast to name but a few. You can enjoy a host of scenic walks, whether it be countryside, coastal or pub/tea room circulars. One of my favourites circles the nearby village of Musbury which includes the backdrop of Musbury Castle, an early British earthworks, with stunning panoramic views of the Axe Valley and coast. In addition to those eateries mentioned above, we are also spoilt by being surrounded by many other enjoyable places to have good food. Quaint tea rooms such as The Old Bakery in Branscombe and The Hideaway in Seaton or traditional, lively countryside pubs like The Tuckers Arms in Dalwood, The Ship Inn at Axmouth and The Volunteer Inn in Lyme Regis. If it’s the bustle of a market that you enjoy, Bridport, Honiton and Axminster all host them on a weekly basis.
  • Lovely cosy cottage. Everything we could have hoped for. Tranquil setting. Great log burner. Well equipped. Very Clean, well presented. Really helpful hosts. We'll be back.

  • We had a very enjoyable stay here for a birthday treat and found the hut more spacious than expected. The bed is really comfortable and the hut is beautifully furnished. The combination of oil radiator and wood burner kept evenings cosy. We loved the peaceful setting and views of the pretty garden and beyond. Musbury is an attractive village and there is a great walk up to the Iron Age hillfort and many other local walks.

There are many other walks that can be done in the locality. In fact, there are lots to things to do and see in the region. During our short stay we enjoyed meals at the River Cottage Canteen in Axminster and the Hix Oyster & Fish House. We would recommend both restaurants.

Nestled in picturesque Kilmington near Lyme Regis, there's so much nearby to see and do. You can be an adrenaline junkie, enjoy a quiet walk in the countryside, shop, simply relax on the beach or explore the great local visitor attractions nearby. Please note our changeover days in "other things of note". Thank you and we look forward to welcoming you to Valley Farm Holiday Cottages
The Cider Barn is designed with the lounge and kitchen upstairs to take advantage of the magnificent views. Downstairs there are two bedrooms one with one king size bed, the other two singles. A large bathroom (no bath) with a good size shower offers a large amount of storage. A large trampoline is available in the gardens, but use is at own risk.
We have a brilliant video of our cottages and Kilmington, view on Valley Farm Holiday Cottages website or on YouTube and Facebook, we think our village is amazing and think you will too.
  • A superb upside down Barn conversion, great views, lovely shower and plenty of ground for the dog to roam in. Lovely open plan kitchen lounge diner with an enormous television.

  • I stayed for three days at the Cider Barn and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The accommodation was clean, welcoming, spacious with all facilities. The location is gorgeous and the hosting was very professional and friendly. I would definitely go there again - and again. Great value.

  • Beautiful location, lovely barn conversion. Absolutely perfect!

    Rebecca2019-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a great home this was for the week! We stayed with our young kids here and the Cider Barn was all we had hoped it would be and more - well decorated and comfortable with stunning views over the Devon/Dorset hills from the living area and so easy to get out and explore the countryside too. It is situated in Kilmington which is a beautiful, quiet village and the location was just perfect. Thank you!

    Daniel2018-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Cider Barn was everything we hoped for. We chose it after looking at a lot of other Airbnb options in this area, it looked like the nicest place within our budget. The cottage was beautifully presented, the kitchen was fully equipped, the beds were comfortable with lovely linen, the views were beautiful. It was everything we hoped for. Helen was great pre arrival, we were a last minute booking and she responded really quickly. We were a family of 5 - 2 adults, a 3 year old and 2 dogs. Helen ensured we were all welcomed with cream tea, toys, dog treats etc. We really enjoyed our stay, would highly recommend Helen and the Cider Barn and wouldn't hesitate to return.

    Tamara2016-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • The Cider Barn is a beautiful house and suited our family of 4 very well. We stayed with Mummy, Daddy, Finn (7) and Torben (5). The set up of the twin and double bedroom worked really well for us and the boys. The kitchen is very well equipped and offers everything that you could possibly need. The whole property is in immaculate condition with great attention to detail and looked after with lots of love and care. The location is beautifully peaceful yet not far from all the places you might like to see - Axminster, Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Seaton even Exeter are no more than 30 minutes away. It is the perfect location for a seaside trip or a walk in the woods or around the local lakes. Helen has assembled a whole library of booklets, guides and information for everyone staying. Helen and her family were the perfect hosts. They were so lovely with our lively children and very helpful and knowledgable. The boys loved feeding the chicken and collecting eggs. The welcome cream tea was just the icing on the cake. We would definitely come back and stay again. Thank you Helen and family!!!

    Nora2016-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Cider Barn was amazing! The house was spotless and beautifully decorated - we were greeted by a succulent cream tea as welcome gift, thank you Helen! We felt truly welcome and at home. The cottage also offers a lot of tourist attraction information which was very helpful to plan our days out. The location is very peaceful and perfect to explore the coast and surrounding valleys. The house is also in walking distant to the 2 local inns for an evening drink or dinner. We had a fantastic time and can't wait to be back!

In a stunning rural location and only 4 miles from the Jurassic coast, The Granary cottage is beautifully equipped with outstanding westerly views over the lawns and tennis court to the surrounding countryside. The heated pool is open from the beginning of May to end of September and is shared with a small number of other guests. Games room, tennis court. Well behaved dogs are welcome and there are lovely walks all around. Historic Colyton is 2 miles away with local pubs, eateries and shops.
Liz and Gordon provide a warm welcome and the cottage is extensively equipped with welcome pack of basic food, household and toiletry items, so you can cut down on your packing. It has a private garden with furniture and barbeque. All linen and towels (two each) are provided. The twin bedroom is quite small for two adults. One bed rolls under the other for one adult occupancy.
Our lovely small town of Colyton is well worth getting to know. It's steeped in history and earned it's name as 'The most rebellious town in Devon' during the Monmouth Rebellion. You can learn a lot by visiting the Heritage Centre in the town.
  • Have just returned from Colyton with my two daughters aged 13 and 10. We had a fantastic break and found the Granary to be cosy and set in beautiful countryside. One of the highlights was watching the stars at night from the bedroom skylights. Great location for exploring the coast. We loved Beer and Lyme Regis. We had a thoroughly relaxing few days and can’t recommend enough !

    Jo2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great cottage in superb location! Liz and Gordon are great hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. Gordon lent us some local walking maps. The cottage (converted granary next to main house) is deceptively large. Nice ground floor sitting room, kitchen with table and bench seats, then a double room and two singles in a further room which our kids loved. We didn’t have great weather when we were there but the cottage was warm and comfortable. There is a small private fenced rear garden but this is just a small part of large well maintained grounds with tennis court and swimming pool (sadly closed as our visit was in October). Our kids enjoyed the games room with table football, pool and table tennis. Lots of parking is available. The location is great - just off a quiet country lane and, the Jurassic Coast is just 4 miles away. We enjoyed fish and chips, fossil hunting, long walks on the beach and local pubs. Thoroughly recommend.

    Simon2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely stay. Perfect for a few days walking. The Granary has everything you could need with lots of thoughtful touches. We would definitely recommend it.

    Alexandra2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Liz and Gordon's place over October half term. They were very hospitable and especially helpful with advice on local walks. Gordon loaned me two maps and also gave us a bag of orchard apples which are delicious! The cottage itself was very well equipped and warm. And the garden, games room and tennis court were a particular bonus.

    Lucy2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • It was the rainiest holiday I’d ever had, but with the outdoor pool and indoor games room there was no cause for boredom. The cottage is situated in a very quiet and peaceful setting with no street lights, so, on a clear moonless night the Milky Way is in full glory. It’s close enough to the coast too, about ten minutes to Seaton and twenty minutes to Lyme Regis; our favourite though was Sidmouth with its charming town centre filled with boutique shops and eateries and only a stones throw from the seafront.

The village of Beer - an ancient fishing village (renowned for smuggling in ancient times) also offers some beautiful coastal walks. The surrounding countryside is particularly scenic and tranquil and there are many lovely local country walks. There is a public footpath from the farm which goes down to the historic pub in Dalwood – ‘The Tucker’s Arms’ which was built in 13th century. ( it is a lovely 40 min walk during the day but not advisable at night ) A map of different walks is provided. Honiton boasts many antique shops and is famous for it’s ice cream shop which is open in the spring and summer, and lace and pottery making. It also celebrates many traditional activities. Axminster is famous for its carpet making and is the home of the River Cottage Canteen. There are many pubs and other eating places such as the well known carvery outside Honiton or one of the many places for Devon cream teas. The area also provides many garden centres, (such as Otter in Ottery St. Mary – the home of Thackeray and Coleridge) and 3 good farm shops(one offering ’Pick your own’), and 2 cider breweries. Places of interest – Durdle Door in the Dorset section of the Jurassic coast; the famous Eden project( only 2 hours away) Taunton,(the town was first settled in Saxon times – approx. 700AD) Dunster and Tiverton castles, Exeter cathedral. For something more energetic, there are a number of activities - like the ‘Landrover experience” and quad biking near Cullompton, Zorbing in Dorchester and water sports in Exmouth(and a sandy beach and model railway!) and centres offering child activities eg. Crealy adventure Park (said to be “a cross between Disneyland and MacDonald’s farm”, and Abbotsbury which provides a farm, gardens(which are lit up at Halloween and Christmas) and a Swanery, and Paintballing near Exeter. Then for those rainy days – there is the Fleet Air Museum and the Haynes Motor Museum in Yeovil and the historic Observatory in Sidmouth (also famous for it’s annual Folk Festival in July) and the Aquarium in Weymouth(URL HIDDEN) Larger Shopping centers – Exeter, Yeovil and Taunton and the Trago center. • The pictures don't do this place justice and Di's thoughtful touches made us feel so welcome. The place was sparkling clean, check in was easy and Di was always available to answer questions. We had an absolutely amazing time and will be recommending to all our friends.

  • Cosy logburner in cottage, great pub at Dalwood, plus Di provides yummy treats and breakfast supplies to meet our dietary requirements. The bed was comfy and kitchen well-equipped. Good spot for exploring East Devon and West Dorset.

  • Our stay at Dalwood was perfect! We couldn't of had a better new years eve + day. The pictures do not give the property justice as it was beautiful inside and all the amenities you would need. New years day was extra special getting to meet all of the farm animals. The walk to the local pub was also lovely with delicious food! We visited without a car from London and the commute was easy with a local tesco superstar close to the station and only a short, reasonable taxi ride away to the property. Everything was super convenient and easy without a car. Thank you!

  • We had a fantastic long weekend in Di's beautiful cottage. The bed was huge and really comfy, the directions were very easy to follow, and the breakfast and brownies were delicious! The perfect location for a weekend walking in Devon and Dorset.

A beautifully restored historic coach house situated in the countryside outside the market town of Axminster. The property is only a few miles from the coastal towns of Lyme Regis and Beer and the Blackdown Hills and Dorset AONB.
Guests will enjoy the entire coach house to themselves. The property comes with a fully equipped kitchen, modern bathroom, TV, wood burner, and underfloor heating throughout. The coach house is situated in beautiful grounds including a lake and woods. The Coach House is not suitable for children due to its open plan layout.
Axminster is situated between the Blackdown Hills and Dorset Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The area is renowned for great walks and cross country cycling with many routes beginning from Axminster. Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coastline are only a few miles away. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage HQ is located just outside Axminster and his Canteen in Axminster itself is a great place for lunch, dinner, or even just a coffee. Lyme Regis is also home to Hix Oyster & Fish House, the celebrated fish restaurant from London. If the beach, walks, or food are not your cup of tea then perhaps antique hunting is... Axminster and the surrounding towns have many antique and second-hand shops. Every Sunday afternoon in the summer months Axminster hosts a generous car-boot sale where plenty of gems can be found. Honiton is only a few miles away and its famous high street is lined with antique shops.
  • Absolutely wonderful stay at the coach house. Stylish, luxury, cosy and warm. Set in beautiful Devonshire countryside, it had everything that we could’ve needed for a nice relaxing weekend away. Host was always on hand if needed, and fantastic communications. Thank you Nicky, will definitely stay again!

    Kezman2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Nicky and Alistair's place is truly stunning! It is set back from the road up a long drive which makes the setting really peaceful. Saying that, you are only a 20 min walk (or 5 min car drive) from Axminster town centre. We loved the cream tea waiting for us on arrival (just one of the many little touches). The open plan nature of the property makes it feel really light and spacious. It was really warm and cosy with underfloor heating and a log burner. They have provided literally everything you could want for a relaxing break in the countryside. We loved wandering around the grounds of Sector Hall which feature a lovely lake complete with ducks. We fell in love with the property and would definitely go back for another stay!

    Kay2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great place and sparklingly clean.

    Gareth2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • This was our third visit to The Coach House, which says it all really. Lovely, spacious and high spec with underfloor heating, log burner and powerful shower. Big kitchen with range cooker, dishwasher etc. Quiet location in the grounds of the owner’s house, but separate and private. Surrounded by fields but only 5 mins drive from Axminster. Highly recommended!

    Alex2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Coach House is a lovely and cosy getaway property, and the hosts are very friendly and welcoming. We were delighted with the additional touch of some scones, jam and clotted cream, which was a very nice touch. Our dog Cookie was very welcome and enjoyed walks in the woods.

    Blake2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really lovely place. Everything was the highest quality and spotlessly clean. We loved the huge shower with constant hot water and the large comfy bed. The grounds are beautiful and we were able to spend a lovely couple of hours down by the lake enjoying the Autumn colours.

    Rosemary2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay! Were greeted with a smile even in the torrential rain and welcomed into the very cosy coachhouse. Very spacious with everything you could need and more. Our dog absolutely loved exploring the amazing grounds surrounding the accomodation which is kindly allowed. The sun came out for our trip to Lyme Regis which is only 10-15 minutes away and we would happily come back again, maybe for longer next time!

    Matthew2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had an Amazing few days staying at The Coach House. Unfortunately the Weather was not on our side & it rained the whole time, but being in such a Beautiful House in a Magnificent setting, it didn’t bother us (even with 2 dogs). Everything you need is there, and small touches like chocolates on the pillows to handmade soap & fresh flowers was such a nice surprise. This was our 1st time staying in an Airbnb,, I hope everyone else can live up to the Coach House. Thank you Nicky we will definitely be back soon x

A grade 2 listed 5-star converted granary. Bright and airy, with upstairs sitting room and kitchenette, with feature oak beams. Views of the historic courtyard and the Axe River valley. Downstairs is a large double bedroom, en-suite shower room, and built-in washing machine. A sunny area outside for relaxing with coffee or wine. 5 minutes drive to the beach and cliffs at Seaton, 10 minutes to the fishing village of Beer, 20 minutes to Sidmouth, and to Lyme Regis. Close to pubs and restaurants.
The Granary combines modern facilities with a touch of history. Originally part of the Harepath Farm dated 1610, The Granary was rebuilt after fire in 1870, and converted to it's present form in 2004. Set in farmland, The Granary also has good access via the A3025 to the many surrounding characterful villages and sea-side towns.
The immediate neighbourhood consists of the barns around the courtyard, the farm, and a smallholding all accessed via a gravel road. A very quiet area, but with good neighbours available if needed. Seaton and this area of East Devon are known for their lovely beaches, interesting pubs and restaurants, and friendly people.
  • The Granary is a fantastic place to stay. It has everything you need. The fruit and cake were a lovely thought and went down well

  • My wife and I spent three delightful days at Lloyd's place and could not fault it. We were looking for a relaxing time to rest and do some coastal walks. We love the area and did the fantastic Beer to Branscombe coastal walk, as well as spending a day in Lyme Regis - all just a short drive away. Most of all, we enjoyed being in the apartment, which is so peaceful, beautifully furnished, snug (with underfloor heating), and extremely well-equipped. Lloyd w could not have made us feel more at welcome and at home. Highly recommended.

  • The Studio is really super, spacious, stylish, beautifully equipped, warm and cosy with a very comfortable bed and lots of thoughtful touches, what more could one ask for ! Dawn is the perfect host, engaging and informative , we so enjoyed meeting her and will look forward to returning to The Studio.

    Jane2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • When you stay somewhere you want a home from home that doesn't require a lot of extra thought for you to adapt to it. Where your host has put time and thought into what they are providing. Location is important, but the space itself is a big consideration. The Studio is all that the web page says and then some. For a couple, it is ample room for a spring visit with rain. Handy for lots of places that the A35 can get you back and forth from. Would we visit West Somerset/East Devon again? Yes. If so, where would we stay? Well, having discovered the Studio, why would we stay somewhere else?

    Nigel2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, bright and spacious apartment. Was warm and cosy during a wet and windy February half term stay. A good location just a short drive from Lyme Regis and Charmouth. Thank you Dawn.

  • ‘The Studio’ is a really stylish space, it’s been really well thought out and is very comfortable and very clean. We were visiting the River Cottage for a cookery course and feast and it was an easy 10 min drive away. Dawn was very quick to respond and very friendly and welcoming. The welcome included some lovely treats of freshly laid eggs, biscuits, muesli and milk etc We’d definitely recommend The Studio it has a lovely cosy feel to it and has everything you could need.

  • Dawn’s place is wonderful! It’s the nicest Air b’n’b I’ve ever stayed in. It is beautifully furnished and has everything you need, as well as lots of homely touches that make it special. It’s a great base from which to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside, a 5-minute drive from River Cottage for a course or a meal, and Lyme Regis is also close by.

This lorry is a well equipped accommodation for 2 people. It is sited at the top of the field with stunning views of the sea and opposite valley . It is is completely insulated with wool and has a wood burning stove, making it suitable for use all year round and a perfect romantic getaway .
The lorry comprises of 2 areas. A living and kitchen area (approximately 9'x8') and a bedroom (approximately 6'x8'). The lorry is insulated with sheeps wool and clad in wood. There is a 12v solar electrical system that that powers lights in both the kitchen and bedroom and a usb/cigarette lighter wall socket. The kitchen has a full size gas cooker , sink and a comprehensive set of utensils and crockery. Basics such as salt, sugar, oil, vinegar and tea are provided. There is an electric cool box under the lorry which can be plugged in when required or cool blocks can be put in it. The kitchen has a table and 2 chairs. There is a comfy sofa next to the wood burning stove. Wood is provided for the stove. The bedroom has a luxury wool topped double bed. The duvet and and pillows are all made from british wool and the bedding is made from 100% cotton. There are lots of windows in the vehicle giving it a light airy feel. The windows are furnished with thick cotton curtains. Outside the lorry there is a fire pit so you can sit and keep warm while enjoying the incredible view or cook on the open fire. There are compost loos on the site and a shower block.
Brig’s Farm is on the south facing side of the Char Valley away from the hustle and bustle of the Jurassic Coast. Charmouth beach, famous for its fossil hunting , is just a short drive ( 7 minutes ). Alternatively you can walk there along the meandering River Char through beautiful meadows ( 40-55 mins ). Charmouth has a well equipped village store for all your provisions. Lyme Regis is also close by , it’s a bit more of an adventure to walk there but about 15 minutes in a car. There are lots of possibilities for beautiful walks. There’s a lovely woodland behind the farm with options to walk to the local hill forts. From Charmouth you can access the South West Coast path, I can recommend walking east through St. Gabriel’s and onto Golden Cap. There are some absolutely stunning wildflower meadows along the way. If you are as particular about good food as I am, I can suggest two pubs. The Tytherleigh Arms, who do amazing Sunday roasts, and the Shave’s Cross, which is a beautiful 16th century pub with a lovely garden and open fire in the winter. There are 2 farm shops that sell local produce close by on the A35, Felicity’s to the east and Miller’s to the west.
  • Great! We had a lovely stay - super cosy with the log burner so a great option when missing those summer camping trips. The view from bed when you open the curtains in the morning is brilliant! Great place for a cosy lie in with a cup of tea. Mew was really hospitable and even dropped us off on the first night for dinner. Thanks!

  • The garden studio was a really lovely place to stay, it was so relaxing, it wasn't difficult to find and there was parking available. There was milk, tea, biscuits and eggs waiting for us which was a really nice touch! The double ended bath was amazing and I really recommend staying here!

  • Great Studio 7 mins up the road from River Cottage HQ... perfect for an overnight after a cookery course. The hosts Kate & Mike are excellent with comms and provided a very warm welcome with scones, jam, cream and tea! Perfect

  • Quiet space, small but beautifully decorated, well equipped and spotless. Extremely comfortable bed and great bath for two! Didn't use outdoor space as weather not good but would be nice in summer. Cream tea, fresh eggs and milk much appreciated.

  • Great studio in a great location. Well equipped with everything you might need. Really peaceful and tranquil. Nice touches with eggs and cream tea waiting for your arrival. Good pub less than 10mins walk down the lane. One of the best places on air bnb we have stayed in.

Our home is in a quiet cul-de sac. The town, beach and sea are about 10-15 minutes walk away. We have mainly independent shops with some national shops. There are several Churches within walking distance. The Promenade is a mile long level walk. Seaton has a harbour and the Axe Vale Yacht Club. In the Summer, there are watersports of Paddle Boarding and kayaking and boat trips. Seaton is a lovely Victorian sea-side town. Excellent coastal walks.
  • Sharon is a lovely lady, kind and considerate and keen to make you welcome and your stay a success. The room was clean with kettle, tea and coffee - always a bonus - and I hadn't realised breakfast was included - I'm always starving when I wake up in a strange place so this was a pleasant surprise.. My rather large Spinone was welcomed with open arms (always a bit of a worry when you are travelling with a dog), and was thoroughly relaxed in what was for him a strange environment. I can happily recommend this airbnb to anyone considering staying there. Good to find somewhere so accommodating and at such a reasonable price.

  • Sharon was a fantastic host, personable, friendly and flexible. The accommodation was terrific value with lovely extra touches and really convenient for the town. I thoroughly recommend a stay at Sharon's if you need to stay in Seaton, you will not be disappointed!

  • Bruce Lodge is lovely, made all the more welcoming by Sharon who is an excellent host. Myself and my dog felt right at home when we arrived after a hard days walking. Sharon provides lots of extra touches like fruit in the room and a good breakfast. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Sharon was very welcoming on arrival, and made sure I had everything I needed. I felt very at home in the house, and loved the added touches of a hot drinks station in my room, and some homemade apple cake as well as some fruit. A very friendly home to stay in, and breakfast included too! A good sized room, a comfortable bed, and a lovely big bathroom - what more could you need?

  • Excellent value and a lovely, clean welcoming stay. Great location too.

  • We had a lovely 2 night stay at Sharons house. The breakfast was huge and there was a lovely tray of fruit and biscuits in the room for us. Whilst the property could do with updating, this is reflected in the amazing value price. It was everything we needed for our stay, a comfy bed, towels, and privacy and was sparkling clean too which is something that really counts. Thank you Sharon.
