Places to stay in Kilmartin

Places to stay in Kilmartin
We are a luxury bed & breakfast throughout the year, but please reach out for available dates, if you are interested in exclusive use. A 16th Century authentic Scottish castle escape, nestled in the ancient landscape of Kilmartin Glen with 8,000 years of history to explore right on your door step. Standing stones, ancient forts, burial tombs, and ancient rock carvings make our wee Glen one of Scotland’s richest concentration of archeological sites. A true slice of genuine unspoiled Scotland.
We’ve always loved meeting people and we love being in the kitchen, especially making breakfast together. So, between Oct 2019 and Oct 2020 we will be opening Kilmartin Castle as a luxury bed and breakfast. We have a 2 night minimum stay and you can find our individual rooms: Clarke | Carswell | 1550 and Speel listed under Kilmartin Castle. If you would rather take the place exclusively though, you still can, so please ask. All five en suite bedrooms have been individually designed to retain the rustic magic of a 16th C castle while spoiling you with the comforts of modern living including wood burning stoves, extravagant walk in showers, roll top baths and of course, luxury bedding.
Kilmartin Castle sits at the top of Kilmartin Glen, which boasts the largest number of historical finds within a six mile radius in all of Scotland. Amazing walks start right from the castle. Kilmartin Village has a great community vibe. An award winning museum / café and gift shop and a local pub serving real ales, Scottish single malts and great dinner, only a 3 minute walk away.
  • I wish I could keep this sweet and perfect castle as our secret garden, it is that special. Our general rule as a family is to keep moving, discovering. So when we want to come back, that says a lot. Such a magical place. Also not in pictures, is the beautiful scent of the place. A blend of stone, beeswax, crisp linen and wood. Divine. Do go, no need to venture too far except in long walks and come back to a warm floor fully equipped kitchen where you can cook just about anything you’d like or soak in a deep bath. Or both.

  • Amazing. Hope to be able to return again some time in the future. It’s out of this world !

  • Its a great place, clean and exciting to stay at. The chef Ali is the Bomb what wonderful food. Have her cook for you, you won't regret it. Friendly & welcoming owners make you feel like family. Our lives have such grand memories now to carry with us because of this stay.

  • This is a truly magical place - everything about it was stunning. The renos done in 2019 are superb (watched it every week on Instagram!) - the copper tubs are only one small (fabulous) feature. The Castle is extremely comfortable - everything is there that you could possibly need - very well equipped. It was tough to decide which bedroom to give to each person (at the end - we took the master - wow) - but those rooms with the copper tubs are so very beautiful! Loved the little touches throughout - including the welcome to the Castle "wee drams" and the heated floors! Very beautiful location - in a very lovely part of the country. Kilmartin Hotel for drinks and dinner is a must - and if you are able to go to Kilberry Inn - GO! We also had a fabulous day out to the Isle of Jura - Sandy Campbell at Venture West boats - in Crinan Harbour - well worth it (and thanks to Simon and Stef for the recommendation). Also go to Oban to the Modern Croft store - very beautiful and wonderfully curated "stuff" (where they got the pottery for the shampoo and wash in the showers). What else can I say? Oh - we travelled with expectations of rain - but instead got magically warm and sunny days - the sunsets over the Glen are magnificent. Thank you so much to Simon and Stef - we had a truly wonderful week. Good luck in your next venture (B and B for the Castle).

  • Kilmartin Castle is a dream! We’ve always dreamed of staying in a castle and this was a dream come true. Every space in the castle has so much attention to detail, I was literally taking pictures and notes if design elements and pieces of furniture that I hope to find for my own home. The space is so big with plenty of room for my family of 7. We had 5 adults and 2 kids and were more than comfortable. This is a 5 star stay with top of the line amenities. From soaking in the giant copper tub to relaxing by the fireplace listening to the record player with and great selection of vinyl, we were happy to just enjoy the castle for the 3 nights we were there. I love to cook and enjoyed cooking dinner two nights of our stay and one evening we walked down to the local pub. We travel often and this is by far the best Airbnb we have ever stayed in! Thank you Stef and Simo for sharing your incredible castle with us!

  • What an incredible stay! Our group had the best time and it’s safe to say none of us ever wanted to leave. So many wonderful personal touches to explore in the castle and that record collection! ❤️ The pub at Kilmartin Hotel was great and was an easy walk. We explored the nearby museum and took advantage of the walking trails. Stef and Simon were kind enough to leave a book with a special inscription along with a cake! Very special and appreciated touches as we were there to celebrate my 40th. Chef Ali came in and served dinner in the dining room for us. If you’re able to have her cook for you then you’re in for a real treat. Everything was delicious but her lemon posset silenced the table and that’s no easy feat! Hope to return one day. The place is a gem and Stef and Simon have created a truly special destination.

  • Incredible place to stay, just perfect. Cannot recommend enough the chance to stay at this most amazing property

  • This was a bucket list experience for us and Kilmartin Castle did not disappoint! The space is absolutely fantastic, with attention to detail taken from top to bottom. Our goal was to find a castle that had not been so modernized inside so that we could savour the historical elements (from the stone walls to the “murder hole” windows). This was exactly that!! However, we very much appreciated the upgrades including the heated floors and luxe soaker tubs! Our heartbeats quickened as we entered through the heavy wooden front door where we were greeted by the aromas of Chef Ali’s dinner that was awaiting us! Walking through the stone hallway and up the spiral stone stairway...it just kept getting better!! It was everything we had hoped and much more!!! I don’t want to spoil the surprises about all the special touches made by Stef & Simon so I will simply say that these hosts are committed to delivering a world class travel experience. We loved learning more about the history of the building and flipping through the photo album that documented the evolution of the space over the years. We even had fun ‘locking’ the front door at night! We also made use of the bonnet and wellies while we navigated the unpredictability of the Scottish weather :) The town is so great too! We visited all the spots in and around the town (never once getting back in the car). The pub was awesome. The people were great. Seeing 4000+ yr old burial cairns was a unique experience for us. The trails are magnificent! I went for a run through the hillsides and unexpectedly came across ancient ruins and rock art...it’s that kind of area! When I suggested to the group that we visit the museum, they asked why we would go to a museum when we were living in one!?! Good point. But honestly, the museum and cafe were also so great! As so many others have written in their reviews, if you can make this experience happen for yourself...DO IT! We love to travel and experience the world. We love staying in luxury spaces that offer something unique that we can hold onto in our treasure trove of memories. Stef & Simon have delivered this on the grandest scale. Thank you for sharing a piece of Scotland and The Campbell Clan’s history with us. We will never forget it.

The Snug offers a taste of the 16th Century living, but with underfloor heating! A unique castle bedroom on the ground floor with original stone barrel vaulted ceiling, walk in shower and en suite WC. Antique treasures, modern pieces & fine artwork all call Kilmartin Castle home. A friendly retreat in the heart of Argyll. Discover hidden Scotland! Available for exclusive use. Please ask for availability.
The castle is beautifully rustic. The barrel vaulted stone ceiling in this room is as it was when the castle was built in 1550. Sleeping beneath it feels pretty special! The furnishings are a selection of vintage and modern pieces lovingly collected over time.
Guests always say "We wish we stayed longer, there is so much to see and do!" Kimartin is a small village with big history, centered around Kilmartin Glen, which is within walking distance of the castle. The area has one of the richest concentrations of prehistoric monuments and historical sites in Scotland: Ancient forts, Standing stones and burial cairns are on our doorstep. Kilmartin Museum is a 3min walk from the castle and has a fabulous cafe serving up organic treats. Kilmartin Hotel, also 3mins by foot, serves pub grub, local ales & of course, great whisky!
  • Magical, Extraordinary, Luxurious - We loved staying at Kilmartin Castle. It was a lifelong memory. Stephanie and Simon are fabulous hosts, and made us feel like old friends who were there for a visit. It was magical to imagine looking out these same windows in 1550 when the castle was first built - while feeling very cozy with modern, luxurious comforts. The decor and appointments are thoughtful, beautiful, and comfortable in every detail. We spent the evenings relaxing in the extraordinary great hall by the fire, and the wonderful company (with the hosts and other guests) made the experience even more special, enjoyable, and memorable. The breakfasts were excellent, and it was really fun to eat them in the castle dining room. The area is beautiful and interesting. Stef and SImon gave us great tips and directions. We left after 2 nights wishing we had more time. We've stayed many places we would love to stay again -- this may be the only place we've ever stayed where would definitaly alter the dates of a future trip to make sure we could stay at this wonderful place again!

  • Book. This. Place. Now. Kilmartin Castle - along with it's hosts Simon and Stef, make for an incredible Scottish getaway. The castle itself is amazing- they have thought of everything. It is settled in quaint Kilmartin with stunning views all around. It is a stylish, hip space, but there is no loss for comfort here. The bed in the Snug was perfect - the underfloor heating keeps the room toasty warm - no drafts! It is also very quiet, leaving my girlfriend and I to a restful night's sleep. The shower was lovely as well. The Great Hall common area is a great place to unwind - accompanied by a warm fire, stellar vinyl collection, and a nice whisky selection to boot. Simon and Stef are ideal hosts - great conversationalists with a real knack for making you feel at home. They cook a mean breakfast too! I also appreciated their dedication to a lower waste bnb, avoiding single use plastic in their space - not an easy feat! Bottom line is I wish we had stayed longer. We will be back - hopefully to enjoy a dram of Laphroig next time!

  • From the moment we stepped foot on the property, we were blown away at all of the amazing things Simon and Stef have done. From the heated floors to the unique decorating, the castle was everything we could have ever imagined. Breakfast was delicious and we really enjoyed the family style meal where we got to meet exciting people from all over the world. I would recommend Kilmartin castle to anyone traveling to Scotland.

We loved the pigs and the turkeys and Roxy (our dog) was made very welcome by all. Thanks to Ewan and family for a fabulous mini winter break.

  • Dunadd Farm is a great place to stay, very convenient for loads of very special walks and trips. Staying in the Cheese loft was great, nice size for me, lovely and warm on a cold and very wet week. The facilities were excellent, everything you need in the kitchen was there. The bed was really comfortable, huge soft towels and very peaceful and quiet.

  • Wonderful hosts in a great location. Breakfast is amazing and we loved our stay.

    Christopher2019-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • I loved staying here. Di provided a book of walks for the area and I immersed myself in 2 passions: walking and the neolithic. The Old Manse is 20 yards from the Kilmartin trail and 50 yards from the museum, so a perfect location. If more recent history is of interest Kilmartin church has some amazing grave slabs and Carnasserie Castle is within walking distance. David was a mine of information over breakfast and introduced me to siskins who were feeding on sunflower hearts and told me the best site for neolithic rock art. Breakfast was delicious with smoked, baked salmon and scrambled eggs on offer as well as home made jams. Delicious! Fresh milk was provided to make tea and coffee in the rooms.

    Sheena2019-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • With David, I immediately felt at home. Both are very helpful, friendly and happy to give tips if you need them. Everything is very clean and the breakfast is delicious, as they offer everything you need!

    Susanne2018-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • We booked a room in David and Di’s B&B in Kilmartin when we took an unplanned detour on our Highland road trip, and it was an unexpected highlight of our time in Scotland. The drive from Fort William was incredible, and house was charming with large, clean rooms and a very comfortable bed. We enjoyed the beautiful views of the garden and the surrounding countryside. David and Di were lovely hosts who talked to us about the rich history of the town and gave us tips on things to see in the area. We especially enjoyed the breakfast service. We highly recommend this Airbnb experience.

    Amanda2018-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place to discover. The Victorian house is wonderful and the garden even more. There were plenty of little birds having their breakfast in front of the dining room, we really loved that. David and his family were wonderful hosts. Perfect place to stay, we would definitely recommend.

Location was beautiful and Gillian was very quick to respond to messages, we were even given some fresh eggs from the farm which tasted great. The Cabin is a nature-lover's paradise, a peaceful, romantic retreat full of character and charm. It is a 1930s wood-panelled cabin set in an orchard, part of the beautiful mature garden of our home. It consists of a bedroom, bathroom and old-fashioned kitchen with wood stove. We are situated at the heart of Kilmartin Glen, a 5-minute walk from ancient standing stones and chambered cairns and a short cycle from Moine Mhor nature reserve, Crinan Ferry beach and the award-winning Kilmartin Museum.
The Cabin is a 1930's wooden garden house. The rooms are wood panelled and the curved ceiling is reminiscent of an old railway carriage. With windows on three sides it is very light. When the weather is fair, sunshine pours into the bedroom from morning to evening. We have kept the original features and added vintage and retro furnishings. There are two comfortable single beds with electric blankets (we can put these together on request), a bathroom with bath and toilet and a kitchen with kettle, toaster, small fridge and old Belling cooker (electric). The Belling is fairly limited but will cook eggs or pasta, heat milk or grill bacon with success. You may wish to bring your own breakfast or if you prefer, we can provide a DIY breakfast, including freshly laid eggs. A Scandinavian wood stove heats the cabin (wood provided) but there are also electric radiators and blankets to keep you snug. The Cabin is a peaceful haven where you can read a book, play games or listen to the radio (or the birdsong!) in the absence of wifi.
The Cabin is situated in Kilmartin Glen just a stone's throw from Temple Wood Stone Circle and is on a cycling and walking route that gives access to an array of historic sites: chambered cairns, standing stones, rock art, Dunadd fort, Moine Mhor nature reserve, Carnasserie Castle and the award-winning Kilmartin museum. Crinan is a short drive away with its famous canal, harbour and wonderful woodland walk with stunning views to the west over Jura and Mull. Loch Awe, Loch Sween and the pretty west coast villages of Tayvallich and Ardfern are a 20-minute drive away, offering walks, boat trips, cafes, arts venues and sports facilities. Lochgilphead (9 miles away) is the main hub for shopping, banking, petrol etc. There is a friendly pub in Kilmartin village a mile and a half away. The walk there is lovely, even after dark.
  • This is my second 4-day stay at Chris and Helen’s cabin in the Kilmartin Valley. It is a special and unique place. It is small and it is a cabin, but if you love the rustic feel, being away from just about everything, hearing nothing but birds and rain on the roof, and a warm fire in the kitchen, then this is the place for you. This visit allowed for an exploration of wee Lochgilphead which is a lovely little town, with some sweet places, especially Smiddy’s for lunch, and the Archway for a rather fine little art gallery. The valley has a special feel to it, and the cabin is the icing on the cake! I already miss being there and can’t wait to return.

  • The cabin is peaceful and cozy. We especially enjoyed the wood stove and being 'off grid' for a few days :)

    Laura2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the cabin far exceeded our expectations. We really enjoyed spending a lot of our time in the kitchen which has a great little oven, lovely Belfast sink and all the utensils you could possibly need. Was really great to have a wood burner which didn't take long to make the place feel really cosy, wood was provided for along with some eggs, milk, butter, jams, coffee, various cereals etc. All in all, couldn't have asked for a more welcoming and peaceful weekend away from the city. There is also a folder full of plenty of useful information for things to do on a dry/wet day including walks and local sights - not to mention the outdoor heated bathtub! Looking forward to returning very soon, I wish we lived here.

    Thomas2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Part of us doesn't want to leave a good review so that this place won't be overrun by people but will always be available for us... Just kidding. We absolutely loved the cabin. It is in such a peaceful, calm environment and the cabin itself is so cozy, that even a rainy day doesn't bother you much. Chris helped us with the outdoor bathtub, which was a truly exciting experience.

    Lena2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • A stay too short in an atypical housing full of charm. The place is very quiet, perfectly located to discover this beautiful region. Very friendly welcome. An address that we retain.

  • The School Room is a fantastic bolthole - cosy, stylish and luxurious. The surrounding area is beautiful - the estate vast and wild, and the coastline spectacular. Nearby Crinan Harbour is a charming place for a walk, followed by a drink and fantastic seafood at the Crinan Hotel. And a boat trip on the Venture West to the Corryvrechan whirlpool is not to be missed. Closer to home, a trip to the Boat House deep inside the estate is also not to be missed, for peace, quiet and rugged scenery. And the chance of spotting a Golden Eagle! Many thanks to Willa and Angus for a great stay, and their warmth and kindness as hosts.

  • We had a wonderful stay in Willa’s beautiful school room and can’t wait to return. The School Room in a very beautiful and unique part of the world. The are is rich in history and gorgeous scenery. The accommodation is spacious and so comfortable- the photos don’t donut justice! I loved relaxing on the couch with views of the oak trees and fields, even a rather aloof white cow! Willa thoughtful left us delicious homemade flapjacks which we adored. Thanks for a truly relaxing stay Willa, we will be back!

  • Argyll is a great area to explore. Along all those narrow roads. Beautiful scenery, rich history with castles etc. Search and you will find. The School Room is perfect as a base. We really liked the place; the "room" is done with a gentle touch. It was as described, and that is very good. It was quiet there - as we hoped for. We would like to come back.

  • Great location communication and a lovely modern clean spacious property.

    Hamish2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • This house is absolutely amazing, the pictures do not do justice to the high quality throughout the entire house. The jet bath was amazing after a day adventuring and with the super high pressure shower as well we were spoilt for choice, and then the really soft beds to sink into afterwards made it such a lovely stay. It was warm and cosy without the stove and nice to be able to have a fire when we wanted it too. The location was great with lots of things to explore and beautiful scenery to enjoy. Would highly recommend this place and will be staying again!

  • The shepherds cottage is an excellent place for a family or group of friends to stay. It’s very clean, warm and has a well equipped kitchen. Louise gave us loads of local tips, was very helpful and responded quickly.

  • This is a really lovely newly converted property done to a very high specification. We were really impressed with the cottage. Clearly a great deal of thought & attention has gone into making this a comfortable & stylish place to stay in a lovely part of Scotland! We loved it!

  • Brand new and very well done cottage renovation. Hosts were great with first days supplies provided. There is a large burn across the small quiet road for sound effects and the views are great out to Loch Awe and the mountains. The road out front is single lane, tarred and very quiet making this a great spot for walkers and cyclists. Very peaceful spot. Oban and the ferries to Mull, Iona and the wildlife islands are about 1hour away. Crinan Canal is just 30 minutes.

An outstanding cottage on one of Scotland's most attractive and important historic sites. Dunadd Fort is where ancient kings were anointed and is widely regarded as the birthplace of Scotland. Our spacious family holiday home offers comfort and tranquillity whilst only a 5 minute drive from the market town Lochgilphead. Perfectly situated for exploring Argyll and the islands, as well as offering magnificent walking, cycling, fishing, bird watching, sea cruises, and much more on our doorstep.
Dunadd Fort provides 360 degree panoramic views over the sea to the Isles of Jura and Islay, across the Moine Mhor nature reserve to the picturesque Crinan Canal, towards the Neolithic sites in Kilmartin Glen, and East over the River Add. Our cottage is a spacious family holiday home on a natural terrace halfway up the fort. The cottage has been comprehensively refurbished to give you a restful, and relaxing holiday experience. The bedrooms have new luxury mattresses, linen, and carpets. All the bedrooms enjoy magnificent views over the River Add. Both the family bathroom and shower room are new. We love how much communal space the cottage has. The large antique oak dining table easily accommodates the 6 foot table-top snooker table, there is a childrens' snug at the top of the stairs, and in the sitting room you can sit cosily by the fire or fall back into the sofas and surf the interactive tv. The kitchen is well equipped, including a large fridge / freezer, dishwasher, and microwave. The utility room has a washing machine and pulley clothes drier. A south facing terrace is accessed through the sitting room french windows and provides the perfect spot for lazy afternoons and evening drinks. And the well maintained 3/4 acre garden provides ample space for energetic children to play to their heart's content. For guests who are interested in the past, Dunadd Fort features in many television programmes. Our particular favourite is the BBC's "History of Scotland" in which Neil Oliver reveals Dunadd's beauty and majestic pedigree. (episode 1 - available on YouTube -10 minutes in). Well worth a look. Dunadd Fort is a focal point for the Kilmartin Glen network of walks. which offer a choice of river, woodland, and hill walking. You will find route plans for 22 nearby walks in the cottage. These varied habitats, along with our nearness to the Crinan Moss nature reserve and sea, make the area rich in birdlife. Guests may even be lucky enough to catch sight of the locally nesting golden eagles. Guests can choose from a wide variety of excellent local restaurants, many specializing in the West Coast's bountiful local produce. We've always found Dunadd Fort Cottage has the ingredients for perfect Scottish holidays. The cottage is spacious and combines the character of a 200 year old house with up to date comfort. It enjoys the peace of a secluded location with proximity to activities, shops and restaurants.
Sea cruises, horse riding, and Lochgilphead swimming pool are all within a 5 minute drive. As are supermarkets, and restaurants to suit all budgets. Dunadd Fort is at the heart of this amazing part of Argyll. Car ferry terminals for day trips to the Western Isles are within an hours drive. Though many people prefer the thrill of the fast passenger service which leaves Tavyallich for the Isle of Jura, and which arrives a stones throw from it's famous whisky distillery (booking required). Tavyallich is just a 15 minute drive from Dunadd and is beautiful enough to merit a trip in its own right. We are well placed as a base from which to explore the area by bicycle, with untold miles of forestry tracks available for those who prefer off-roading. The cottage has a lockable garage for bike storage. Fishing permits are available for the River Add and local lochs.
  • We had a lovely, peaceful stay at this beautiful place. Adrisn, the host, really went the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable. Thank you.

  • This really is an idyllic cottage. It's set in a wonderful location, peace and quiet all round, although not too far away from shops and local amenities. The surrounding area has so many places to explore.

  • Fantastic cottage. Beautiful spot and perfect place for a base to visit the surrounding areas which are some of the best spots in Scotland.

  • The family and I loved our stray at Adrian's home. It's in a beautiful and remote area with lovely views from the patio. It was warm and cosy which was essential for the rough weather we had. Adrian was extremely attentive - responded very quickly to our requests and was kind enough to offer to ship back something we had forgot. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend a visit. It's very clean, warm and has lovely views. Thanks Adrain, Richard

    Richard2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to explore Argyll and surrounds. Adrian is a fantastic host who really has some great tips about the area. The cottage is literally ontop an important historic sight, Dunadd Fort, the home of the Scots, it’s only a short walk from the front door to spectacular views and fascinating history. The cottage is stylishly renovated and furnish and kitchen very well appointed. Fire place in winter was lovely. We stayed for four nights with family and the place was perfect. Can’t recommend Adrians cottage enough, as a place in its own right or as a base to explore the area.

    Stuart2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • An excellent stay in this wonderful cottage. Spacious, all amenities, and amazing location. Adrian’s communication and the guest information was great. Plenty to explore nearby, and a lovely home to come back to at the end of the day!

A light and very spacious loft room overlooking the picturesque Crinan Canal. The large top floor has amazing views and a wood burning stove. It is mainly self-contained with a sleeping area, living area and basic cooking facilities. There are two bathrooms in the house which are shared with me and my son. I provide a kettle, toaster, microwave, small fridge and a variety of basic foods, so you can be independent but you are welcome to use my large kitchen for more cooking. A warm welcome awaits
The loft room spans the entire top floor of the house, with 6 velux windows to let the light in all day. The sleeping area has a double bed, a small wooden closet, a bedside table with drawers. There is also a day bed that pulls out to another double bed. The living/relaxing area has a 5 seater sofa, wood burning stove, full internet TV and a slection of DVD's and books. I have provided camping style kitchen facilities, with a kettle, toaster, combination microwave, small fridge, crockery and cutlery. It will be stocked with foodstuffs for a continental style breakfast. You can use the facilities to cook your own meals but if you prefer to make something more you are more than welcome to use the big kitchen in the house. Alternatively, there are lots of great places to eat out. For bathrooms there is a bathroom with a shower on the floor below the loft and two floors below is a bathroom with a bath. Both of these you will have full access to.
The Crinan Canal is described as the 'most beautiful shortcut in Britain' and Braeface is situated right next to it at Bellanoch Basin. It is a Grade 2 listed stone building, believed to have been built in the early 19th century to house the engineers involved in the construction of the canal which began in 1801. Bellanoch Basin is a small hamlet with about 10 houses, it is nice and quiet with one road that leads to the village of Crinan, 2 miles away, that provides the western entrance to the Crinan Canal from the Atlantic. Crinan has a lovely hotel with a bar, seafood bar and restuarant for lunches and dinner. The Crinan Coffee shop is a gorgeous place to sit during the day and watch the boats entering and leaving the canal.
  • Great place to stay, Katie was warm and welcoming. We could have easily stayed longer. Highly recommended. Thanks again

  • What can I say? We agreed with all the previous reviews! The living space is cosy and spacious with many interesting touches. The scenery is truly stunning, especially if blessed with fine weather. Katie is very friendly and welcoming. And the company of the cat by the wood burning stove was an unexpected bonus! If you like nature there are many trails and scenic spots to discover nearby. I believe we only scratched the surface, located as we were in one of the forty National Scenic Areas of Scotland. It was everything we could have hoped for, for a quiet two-night getaway over the new year. Thanks, Katie, for a wonderful stay!

    Ien Tcho2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • A really excellent stay in a beautiful house in a beautiful place. Katie directed us to a delicious Seafood Bar at Crinan Hotel 2 miles away, and we then spent the rest of the evening back at the house, sitting by our own wood burner, reading interesting books we found in the room. Very generous breakfast in the morning, with so many thoughtful touches including a microwave egg poacher, with instructions! 100% recommended.

  • It was an honor and a pleasure to have been able to stay at Katie’s lovely home. The house and accommodations are exactly as they appear in the pictures and a little bit nicer. Katie was very nice, welcoming, her breakfast setup was very much appreciated and the views from her place into the sea are something amazing to wake up to. The place is very clean, Katie is a great communicator and above all very friendly. I would recommend her place to whomever is considering booking it.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mrs Rowans Cottage with our 3 year old daughter and our dog. The estate is beautiful, the animals (rams, chickens, ducks, cows!) are fun and friendly, and the hosts were very welcoming and accommodating. The cottage was well appointed and comfortable, if a bit outdated. We had eggs from the estate’s chickens, sold in an adorable egg stall alongside delicious jellies. We cooked our meals, made coffee and tea, enjoyed a few cozy fires, and slept well in the peace and quiet. We enjoyed visiting a nearby ruined castle, walking the estate grounds, seeing many lochs in the region, and viewing the stars at night.

  • We had a lovely stay at Gillians farm. Location is spectacular and the cottage had everything we needed for our stay. The land around is wonderful to explore with views over the lochs. The farm itself is very isolated-perfect for peace and quiet.

  • Everything was a wonderful stay. Ian's hospitality was great and we were able to relax as if we were at home. The breakfast with the best view is a lifelong memory. There is also a store nearby to buy food, and we went to buy fresh vegetables every day. The road to the store is about a 10 minute walk with a beautiful view. We sincerely recommend staying at Ian's home!

  • The location of Winterton is wonderful, with far reaching views of the surrounding countryside. It's just a short walk to the water's edge, and at low tide, you can cross to a small island and watch the bird life. The accommodation is light, spacious and beautifully decorated. Stephanie and Adrian were great hosts, had very good local knowledge about where to go and what to see, and the meals were of an excellent standard.

  • We have just spent a wonderful Christmas here, with extended family of 10 in the main house and another 4 in one of the smaller houses on the estate. The large house is a very special place, a lovely old house with a very nice feel to it. The rooms are bigger than they look on the photos, and the views from the front are amazing. The kitchen is a little small but it is well-equipped with plenty of big pots and pans for catering for big groups, and easily sufficient plates etc. The dining room managed 14 round the main table for a couple of meals, just, and the lovely library easily accommodated us all, which was perfect for chats and games. There are lots of lovely walks and cycle paths in the area, and we are very much looking forward to coming back to stay here. Gill was a lovely host and very happy to help us and we thoroughly recommend the house.

Great attention to detail, outstanding food and helpful local knowledge made our stay complete. We would unreservedly recommend their place to anyone looking to stay in the area.

  • What a little gem Stephanie and Adrian's place is! We had an incredible stay in this beautiful part of Argyll. The accommodation is exquisite and has everything you need for a very relaxing stay: beautiful furnishings, a huge chillout living space, an amazing breakfast, and a jaw-dropping view of the surrounding countryside. The only downside was that we didn't have time to stay here longer! We'll certainly be back again to explore more of the area and experience more of Stephanie and Adrian's delightful hospitality.

  • We had a wonderful stay at South Lodge, a remote cottage on the beautiful Ederline Estate which is a great place to get away from the rat race and enjoy a few days in the countryside. Spotlessly clean, the cottage was perfect for what we wanted and we loved the nights in front of the log burner and visiting the local towns and villages up and down the coast. We'll be back! T & C.

  • This is such a great cottage for a peaceful and relaxing time away from busy life. We stayed for 2 nights and the only regret we had was that we hadn’t booked a longer stay! The cottage has everything you need and is like a home away from home, which was spotless on arrival. Willa and Angus are great hosts and even left us Easter eggs, what a lovely touch. Dog friendly which is great and we took long walks around the estate with picturesque landscapes and plenty of farm animals and wildlife to see and nights spent in the comfort of the cottage with the wood burner going, a perfect end to the day. Thanks for a great stay, we can’t wait to be back again. Sean & Hayley and our wee dog, Joy

Gabran is a cosy cottage on the North side of Dunadd farm court yard. With an outward facing aspect and views over the garden and river. Gabran has an open plan living room/kitchen and a downstairs bathroom. The bedroom has a double bed and a single suitable for a family of 3. Enjoy walks along the river or up to the top of the ancient Dunadd fort once home to the kings of Scotland.
Dunadd is in Mid Argyll giving great access to Oban to the North where you can travel by ferry to most of the western isles. Campbeltown is to the south, famous for its golf courses and Whisky distilleries. Also nearby are the ferries to Islay, Jura and Gigha. The Crinan canal is within walking distance(4km) via a marked path.
  • Dunadd is a very magical place, whether you are interested in the historical aspects or not. From the top of the fort you find some of the most beautiful views in all of Scotland. I have been staying in the cottages at the foot of Dunadd for many years, and they never disappoint. Even with the original owners now moved on, Ewan and Leslie are more than up for the job. The accommodation is of the highest quality and cleanliness. You will lack for nothing. If you like a dip into nature, you'll appreciate this rich area and the cottages themselves, the horses, the wandering chickens and the two astounding hairy pigs! I cannot recommend Dunadd Cottages highly enough.

  • Perfect location for exploring the Dal Riada area, the accommodation is a home away from home with everything you need for a very relaxed stay. The fresh farm eggs on arrival were a nice touch. The host also recommended the Cainbann hotel for dinner (only 5mins drive away) and we were very impressed with the meals and service. Would definitely stay again.

  • You couldn't ask for a better base to explore the West Coast . The cottage itself is spotless, incredibly comfortable and gives you the port of Oban, forests and lochs of Knapdale as well as the islands of Jura and Islay all within easy reach. We are already planning a return trip!

Comgall is a 2 bed-roomed cottage with the master bedroom being en suite. The second bedroom incorporates 2 single beds with access to a second bathroom including shower and bathing facilities. The high ceilings in the open plan sitting room/kitchen gives a very spacious feel with excellent views from the 2 large patio windows over the river Add and surrounding countryside.

  • Everything we expected! Great apartment, great location; very tranquil on Bonfire night (our reason for choosing as my wee dog is terrified of loud noises). Sparkling clean with just about everything you need; felt like home from home. Aggie the labrador is lovely too (no chickens as in listing; made life easier than I expected with my own dog). Thanks

  • Such an amazing space. Cosy, warm and perfectly located. 7 minutes drive to Lochgilphead, 5 minutes drive to Kilmartin and 2 minutes walk to Dunadd. The kitchen is well equipped, and the view from the lounge is peaceful. We will be staying here again one day. Communication with Ewan was fantastic. Thanks again

One of two cosy self-catering cottages (semi-detached) with two bedrooms, suitable for 4 adults or a family of 4. A real home from home, a great base for a holiday in scenic mid-Argyll. We are situated just off the A816 on the edge of the small village of Kilmichael Glassary, at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac of other properties. The two cottages are behind the main house, and there is private farmland on three sides. We are 4 miles from Lochgilphead and 35 miles south of Oban ferry port.
The two semi-detached cottages are all ground floor, with lovely open countryside views from the rear. There is a fully-equipped kitchen/diner with washing machine and dishwasher, and a comfortable lounge area with TV/DVD player. There are two bedrooms, one double and one single, both with fitted wardrobes. The bathroom has a shower over the bath.
Kilmichael Glassary is a small village and there is a pub 5 minutes walk from the cottage that serves evening meals every day. Dunadd Hill Fort can be seen from the property and it is well worth a climb to the summit to see the breathtaking panoramic view. Kilmartin village and museum are 4 miles away where you can learn about 6000 years of history and explore one of the worlds most significant archaeological landscapes. The Knapdale forest and Crinan canal are on our doorstep with many walks and cycle paths. You may even get to see 'Scotland's Big 5' - golden eagle, red deer, red squirrel, common seal and otter. We are 15 minutes drive from the coast, where there are breathtaking views of the inner Hebrides, and access to ferries. We are located on the Argyll coastal route and cycle route 78. Mid-Argyll is a hidden gem and a paradise for nature lovers. To make the most of your time here we can arrange bespoke privately escorted tours by car with a local resident and amateur historian.
  • The stay with Sara and Sean was very nice! By car we took 5 - 10 minutes to the surrounding small towns. These are really picturesque and you can relax very well !!!

    Julia2019-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • We are so thankful we found Sean and Sara's wonderful cottage in the most amazing settings of country beauty and nature. We even saw the most beautiful rainbow! It was far better than we anticipated. Though it is nest away from Lochgilphead centre, it's really 5 mins by car to the centre. The cottage itself is beautiful and starkling clean, with well thought through personal touches. Thank you!

  • A lovely welcome to a spotless cottage. Beds were really comfy and all necessary items needed for a relaxing stay were provided. Thank you

    Christopher2018-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Totally recommended not only because of how comfortable the house is but because of the environment in which there are lots of places to see very close

    Juan Carlos2018-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • if you get a chance to book Sara and Sean's place do not hesitate, it is a perfect place for exploring the Crinan Area but way more than that, it is the perfect place for a home away from home. Everything has been thoughtfully done so you do not have to think of anything other than bringing your food to make breakfast/lunch/dinner (or head to the local pub if you do not wish to cook) and best of all it feels fresh and clean. it is obvious Sara and Sean have put a lot of time and thought into making this sweet cottage just right, plus they are a really lovely couple, happy to answer any questions but also give you your privacy. the location is perfectly situated to be just tucked away enough you feel out in the country (sheep happily roaming outside the kitchen back window, rain or shine) but close enough to the road for excursions many of which are right on the doorstep. if we ever return to this area and i know we will as its stunning, we would happily call this our home away from home. thank you for making us so welcome!

  • Crinan Cottage was immaculate, cozy, and well organized and equipped with everything we needed. It felt like a home away from home. Sean and Sara were lovely hosts that take great pride in their property. Do not hesitate to stay here, you will not be disappointed.

    Cheryl2018-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended! Sara and Sean are very welcoming. Their place is sparkling clean and equipped with anything you need even for longer stay. The location is perfect for exploring Kilmartin Glen and Crinan, far from madding crowd.

  • Great value for money in a wonderful location. Beautiful area with so much to see. The cottage is remote but close to many incredible natural sites and attractions. It is located next to the heart of the history of Scotland. It is clean and spacious and we received a warm welcome with great local tips. We will definitely be back! Thanks to Sara and Sean for a wonderful stay.

  • Lovely weekend. House is lovely, spacious, clean and has beautiful views (even in the rainy weather). There were bits and bobs (spices, oil, tea etc) in the kitchen too which was great. Would highly recommend Caitlin's place!

  • Great house, lots of space for kids to run around. The views from the balcony are stunning. Ten minute walk to the local pub and village shop. Our two families of 4 had a great weekend at stronefield.

  • We had fantastic time at the house; Caitlin and Bob were very quick in replying and always willing to help. The house has everything, and in perfect working order - it was the perfect place for a family with young kids. The view from the top floor is absolutely stunning, really recommend the place!

  • Great house with a beautiful view! The house is very large, spacious and comfortable, nothing to complain about. Key box very convenient to arrive and leave when you want. Quite difficult to find, thankfully we had the explanations of the owner to guide us.
