  • All 5 star! Close to Main Street in a walking distance. The house is very clean and well-equipped. Kamata-San is so nice to drop us to JR station when we leave and give us plenty suggestions to local food which is really delicious. Highly recommended!

  • We stayed only for a night and thankfully the check-in process was smooth. We managed to find the location using our GPS. The rooms were cozy although we had some problem with the heating initially. Got opportunity to meet with the host during her class. p/s: would be great if the house has TV since it was winter thus the night was longer and we loved Japanese TV programs :-)

  • You's house is spacious and comfortable. It is in a quiet neighbourhood, near a bus stop and walkable to a JR station. There is a supermarket 6 or 7 minutes' walk away. It is also easy to buy food at the supermarket by the Takamatsu station before taking a bus back to the house. We had a very pleasant stay there.

    Susan2016-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great traditional style room with comfortable bedding and great heating. The place was incredibly clean and well kept. The place is walking distance from Takamatsu Port, making it a perfect home to stay in if you're visiting Naoshima on a day trip. You was helpful with figuring out how to get to and from Naoshima by ferry, and allowed us to drop our bags at the home a few hours before check in. A good stay overall, would definitely recommend if you are looking to visit Naoshima on a day trip and want easy access to both the ferry and JR trains.

  • Mr Toyo is very helpful for teaching us how to use the facilities of the room. The house is cozy, traditional and environmental friendly.

    John2017-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Toyo and his crew does a great job keeping an old style farm house clean and environmental friendly. It's surrounded by scenic padi field at the time we were there. Help is always available from ever friendly Toyo or his crew. Bicycle is available but we didn't use them as we has a car. Great for anyone looking for a quiet location with some interaction with the host. Great for anyone looking for a quiet location and some interaction with the host.

    Jeffrey2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Toyo's place is a nice place, in the middle of the countryside. It takes around 15min by walk to go to Hayuka station, but some members of the guest house team came to pick us at the station, they even took us to the supermarket nearby so we could buy food for our stay. The house is cosy, and must be really nice in late spring or summer. There are also heater and stove for cold days. The house aims at being environmentally friendly (water heated up using solar energy for exemple). A nice place to stay. I would recommend it to backpackers and nature lovers.

    Sophie2017-03-16T00:00:00Z

From the World famous Michelin Green GuideShikoku, one of the four islands that comprise Japan, may be the least populous, but it is far from the least interesting. Cut off and isolated for many years, it has remained unspoiled and is home to a host of picturesque temples and villages which are protected by Japan’s highest mountains. The northern part of the island, hemmed by waters that bear a striking likeness to the Mediterranean, is the site of some of Japan’s most exquisite gardens (Ritsurin-koen is a masterpiece of the Edo period) and bath houses at Dogo Onsen (east of Matsuyama) and of Takamatsu, the genuine gateway into Shikoku and the Japanese capital of bonsais. Its mild climate is particularly suited to citrus fruits, peaches and even olives. The warm, fish-filled waters of the Pacific Ocean, perfect for swimming, lap the coast of the southern half of the island, blissfully preserved from tourism. A mountain range, which climbs to a height of 1,982 m, cuts across the centre and is ideal for outdoor sports such as hiking and climbing. This authentic, unjustly ignored island is the ideal place to get acquainted with Japan: lush green paddy fields, remote fishing villages, strings of secluded islets (many of which don’t have a name) and a local cuisine in which fresh fish, served in sashimi, takes pride of place. All in all, it is a landscape that would be quite at home in a cartoon by Hayao Miyazaki, the best-selling creator of Princess Mononoke.
  • Showichi is the best airbnb host ever!! Not only did he go out of the way to pick me and my friend up from the station and to the port, he even surprised us with a great dinner and all the musical talents of his family members. The grandma of the family is the most cheerful lady I have ever met! They truly demonstrates what an airbnb experience should be. Highly recommend!

    HL2014-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Showichi and his family were the warmest and most welcoming hosts. Even though we arrived a little bit late at night and were only staying one night, we still were greeted with the kindest generosity. Very easy access to Naoshima, which was a brillant experience also.

    Kinto2014-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • We went to Takamatsu to visit Naoshima Art Island which was fantastic and meeting Showichi, Eriko and their two sons was delightful! They welcomed us to live with them in their home, invited us to dinner and did everything they could to make our stay perfect. I also recommend to visit Ritsurin garden close to their house and have some matcha at the tea house. It is stunning!

    Katharina2015-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • Staying with the Ogawara family was awesome! Showichi picked us up from the station, and was so kind to us. The entire family was lovely and welcoming, we were invited to dinner that was delicious, and had a great evening with the family. In the morning we were treated to a great breakfast! The boys were so sweet and welcomed our daughter to play with them. Highly recommended!!

  • We've had a wonderful time, the room is big with a private bathroom. Showichi has been really helpful and we've shared a great moment with the family and enjoyed a delicious homemade dinner. We had a wonderful time ! thanks again.

    Julien2017-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Showichi-san and Eriko-san were very welcoming to us, and we had an extremely enjoyable 3 nights stay. The room was clean, spacious and located at the third floor, giving us privacy. The third floor is equipped with a washing machine, toilet and bathroom, however there is no washbasin, so it may be a little inconvenient to some, but we got by fine. Although not included in our booking, Eriko made delicious breakfast and dinner for us, and we could enjoy dinner together as a big family. Showichi-san and Eriko-san are extremely friendly, and we chatted throughout dinner, understanding more about each other's cultures. Their two boys, Shion and Reon, are also very cute and friendly little hosts. We played games with them. There is a mart situated just a mere five minutes walk away, and the Takamatsu shopping street is also a short 10 minutes walk from their house, easy to find and locate. Potential guests should take note though, that from Takamatsu station it would take about 30 minutes walk with heavy luggage, too tiring and far to walk as we experienced. We would recommend stopping at a nearer private railway station, or hailing a cab from Takamatsu station. Thank you Showichi-san and Eriko-San for the lovely time we could spend together. Hope to see you when you come to Singapore with Shion and Reon! :)

We are renovating what was an abandoned building left over from when Uno used to be a busy port town. HYM has a minimal industrial feel which we hope you like. Simple room with table, chairs, WiFi, fridge, wash basin, kettle and air conditioning. 8mins to Uno port and Uno station. 2mins to a supermarket
Simple room with beds, table, chairs, fridge, wash basin, kettle, wi-fi and air conditioning.
8mins to Uno port for Naoshima, Teshima, Shodoshima. 2min to supermarket 8mins to convenience store. less than 10mins some restaurants.
  • Fantastic place ! For all who wants to go to naoshima art island ! It’s better to stay at this wonderful place in uno and take the fairy ....

    Eugenio D2017-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • The room is nice and the locations quite near the port actually.

    Sharon2017-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place and so convenient for a trip to Naoshima!

    Dirk2017-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • What you see is really what you get, from the photos, which is awesome! It's clean, very spacious, and not far from the port and the train station. The only down side is that (well because it's Uno, not a big city with much people to start with), there are barely any street lights at night!! which can get a little creepy if you were alone, especially the food places and 711 is a 10 minutes walk away... Maybe it's just me, since I was alone during a non-peak season for the port. I'm sure summer would be different.

    Clo2016-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • Hym is excellently positioned to get to neighbouring islands such as Naoshima. If you are a light sleeper you may have problems with the light streaming into the room everyday at 5am as the blinds are not black out. We were also woken up a lot but neighbouring rooms slamming their doors - this could be easily avoided with installing soft close doors. The room is lovely and clean with comfy bed but there were no plates or cutlery which would have been nice, and were provided promptly when we asked. I would recommend Hym but consider it more of a hostel experience with a private room.

    Aldo2017-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is fantastic, everything that is described. If you get an opportunity, spend an entire day exploring Uno Port. The setting is so incredibly calming and peaceful

    Eamon2017-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • The building is so conveniently located for getting the ferry to Naoshima - also convenient for food with a supermarket just next door and 7/11 nearby. They're still doing work on the building but you can really see where they're going with it, and I personally really like how it's been done. The bed was really comfy and the room was light and airy. Showers were also nice. Really enjoyed my stay, I would definitely stay here again, partly to see how it is when it's totally finished. Thanks :)

The house has a bedroom the size of 8 sheets of tatami (15.8 ㎡), a kitchen, a bathroom, and parking spaces for 2 cars. You can easily access the national park “Yashima”, a famous noodle restaurant “Waraya” and a restored ancient house in "Shikoku Village" from the Edo era to Taisho era. If you go towards Takamatsu station, you can view a Japanese garden at "Ritsurin garden".
To get to the house, you will be getting off at the JR Takamatsu station. Walk to the Kotoden Takamatsu-Chikko Station (2 minutes) and take the Kotohira Line or Nagao Line. The ride will take about 5 minutes, at which point you will get off at Kotoden Kawaramachi Station. Transfer to the Shido line, and then get off at Kotoden Yashima Station (15 minute ride). You will then be within a 10 minute walk from the house. In the house, you can help yourself to the Koto (a Japanese traditional string-type instrument) and a Kimono (Japanese traditional outfit). Grocery store It only takes 8 minutes to go to the Power City Yashima grocery store, which is opened 9am-10pm. Since you can’t find any convenience stores closer to the house, we recommend you get some groceries there if you need it. Yashima Yashima is plateau shaped like a roof. It was registered as a Japanese National park on March 16th, 1934. From the top of the mountain, you can view all of Takamatsu city which rests against a calm ocean named “Seto”. There used to be a historical battle known as “Yashima no tatakai” of Genji vs. Heishi around 800 years ago. There is also the Yashima temple at the top of the mountain so please check it out. Noodle restaurant It takes 15 minutes by foot to get to a noodle restaurant called “Waraya”. You would be delighted by the Kazoku Udon (“family noodle”) dish which will feed 4-5 people, served in a Tarai (“wooden bucket”). They also have a menu with noodles of different variety, including warm, cold, and soy sauce type. Open hours are 10am-6:30pm. Shikoku village At the Waraya noodle restaurant you can also visit Shikoku Village which was restored from a historical Japanese house between the Edo era and Taisho era. It might be a good experience to take a look at a thatched roof and a huge wooden pillar, or Irori (a hearth sunk in the floor without a chimney. It is usually located in the center of the living room in old farmhouses.). Ritsurin garden You can access the Kuribayashi Park by bus from Takamatsu Station. You will see a beautiful Japanese garden. It was selected by Michelin green guide Japan (March 16th, 2009) as the highest valued sightseeing spot to visit and holds a rating of three stars. You can get more information about sightseeing at the “Visit Kagawa” web site.

  • Lovely communication with the host, and cozy and well conditioned traditional Japanese house. A bottle of water and some local treats have you feel the warm hospitality of the host. Also, decent access to centre Takamatsu and ideal place to enjoy Yashima. What is more, incredibly cost effective.

The room of the accommodation space used trees abundantly and built with self with a father in self build. There are few private houses around and the night is very quiet. You can use the kitchen freely, you can cook yourself. The bath is very beautiful as it has just been turned on about 4 years ago. There is also a flush toilet with a washlet. The bed has one semi-double bed, two single beds, one sofa bed, one mattress and a duvet and blanket. The kitchen and the bedroom also have air conditioning.
It takes about 5 minutes by car from JR Kojima Station or it takes about 30 minutes on foot. Wasyugama is top of the hill, there are supermarkets and take out lunch shop at 5 minutes walking and you can buy food. It is about 15 minutes on foot to a convenience store nearby. Thare are many tourist areas near Wasyugama. For example National Park Washuzan, Jeans Street, Kurashiki Bikan area, Okayama Castle, Korakuen and others. You can go to Naoshima in about an hour. If you cross the Seto Ohashi Bridge you can go to Shikoku. My recommend is visiting Udon lestaurant and Konpirasan. If you are with children you can also enjoy the Reoma World.
  • we had a great time, the place is a little paradise on earth.... you are just in the nature...you have all green around you, and at night you hear the grashoper. Khaki and his family are so kind! thanks again for everything! we really recommend this place!

    BIEL C'EST BIENNE!!!2016-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • What a stunning place to stay. I would suggest that you spend no less than three days here and add in a private pottery lesson with Khaki and lunch at the restaurant. The whole family, Khaki and his parents, were warm and welcoming and it was a great place for kids. Our boys (8 and 11) had a great time on the ranch-like setting. There is a grocery store no more than a 10min walk away from the cabin and it has everything you need. Khaki also knows all the local spots to eat and gave us a great ramen recommendation, which turned out to be right across the street from the train station. There is plenty to do in Kojima too. You can take a pottery lesson in the morning and then stroll the Jeans District and visit the Former Nozakike House and likely not see another tourist all day. This is the best AirBnB experience we've ever had. Book it if you can.

    hunter2017-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • Khaki's place lived up to the high reviews left by others. It was our most comfortable stay of our trip to Japan. There are lots of heaters, and the kitchen and bathroom is well stocked. Many thanks!

    Luke2017-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great location tucked behind the busy streets on a hill. I was blown away by the pottery operation there. It's truly a sight to behold, and whoever stays there owes it to the hosts and themselves to learn as much about the work and time put into this creative and tranquil space. The studio is fully stocked with kitchen appliances, fun light fixtures, washer and dryer (good for weary travelers), and a really nice shower room. Khaki's family was kind and made time to show us around some local restaurants, gave a tour of the shop, and even found time to catch some great views before getting dropped off at the station the next morning. I truly wish I could have stayed longer, if only to learn more about how the whole workshop and house was built. I hope to stop by again someday. Happy New Year!

    Julian2016-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet, wonderful area with a beautiful view of the city. Also there is a cute little restaurant on the property. If you are interested in pottery, this is the perfect place to be in Kojima.

    Marcia2017-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Firstly this property is extremely clean and comfortable. It is heaven for any potter or person interested in ceramics and all the people involved are charming and hospitable. Even though Khaki and his parents are beyond generous in driving you to and from stations etc, a car would be a real bonus and allow you to explore the surrounding villages as the pottery is up a steep hill and the public transport a little complicated. Then again you could just check in and absorb the tranquillity for a few days or enrol in a pottery making course. I loved it.

    Peter2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Wasyu kiln. It is a beautiful setting, with beautiful pottery, and best of all beautiful people. They were really very kind to us and we will never forget the lovely time we had there. Khaki's parents took us to their friend's traditional dessert shop which was one of the highlights of our trip. If you get the chance (and the shop is open) we highly recommend this. The salt store in town is also very beautiful.

    Georgie2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Khaki's house is incredibly beautiful. It's made entirely out of wood, has a washing machine, amazing kitchen, comfortable beds and a modern bath room. It is situated on a hill outside the village Kojima, but the walk to the next supermarket is only 10 minutes. Khaki picked us up from the station, which was very kind. But is was only the first kindness of many. After out arrival, Khaki helped us with a problem we had, gave us great advice about what do in the area, and showed us around. Then we got to know Khaki's parents, who brought us a present of pickled chestnuts from their garden and invited us to have (self-made) pizza with them and their friends the next evening (the pizza was delicious). They even showed us Khaki's father's pottery workshop and their little garden! We had never experienced so much hospitality at an Airbnb and are very thankful to Khaki and his family. For a perfect day, we have the following recommendation: Spend the time before midday walking around the area around the house. The have lunch at Hütte, the restaurant next door, which makes some of the best food we ate in Japan (and it's also cheap!). Then walk (or even better: cycle) along the old train tracks that were made into a beautiful walking path, starting in Kojima and leading along the coast to a small fishing village. You can then cycle back along the main road by the sea. Ask Khaki, he will explain to you how to get there. It's not far. All in all, this was one of the the best Airbnb-Experiences we had so far. If you go to Japan, stay there to experience the Japanese countryside and true hospitality.

  • Jiro's apartment is well furnished and stocked, despite the size, but everything you need for a short stay in Takamatsu is there in the room! Traces of Jiro's thoughtful consideration for potential apartment users are being well reflected in various areas of the apartment, such as the toilet and bathroom, kitchen area, as well as some other amenities. This apartment is a short comfy walk away from the nearby amazing Umie cafe!

  • Very convenient location if you wish to visit Naoshima and Teshima, as the appartment is at a 10 minute walk from the piers. However note that it is not close to the center of the city, you might have to walk 20-30 minutes until there, or otherwise take a train. Jiro leaves you with some very nice information about the surrounding, such as where to find restaurants and convenience stores. The place was a bit dusty but very calm.

  • My boyfriend and I stayed in Jiro's apartment for several nights, and enjoyed our time there. It's a small apartment, but it has everything you need to be comfortable and is close to the port and the train station. Jiro was very friendly and helpful and left us many maps, guides and recommendations - he even drove us to Ritsurin Park! When we had problems with the pocket wifi supplied, he came straight over to provide us with a new one. We really appreciated all the thoughtful things Jiro did to ensure we had a lovely, stress-free stay in Takamatsu. Thanks again, Jiro!

Not only did he pick me up from Takamatsu station, but also sending me to his recommended Sanuki Udon restaurant, and recommending the best Honetsuki Chicken for dinner as well. I would certainly stay at his place if I were to visit Shikoku again!

    Hello. I am Takeuchi Sachiko. 81-year old grandmother (* ^^ *) A grandson who was doing a guest house as a brick-made retro property renovated it into a Japanese-style modern room (* ^^ *)
The kitchen is full of cooking utensils and seasonings and you can use it freely. Refrigerator, range, superheated steam oven, kettle, gas table, food processor, mixer etc are provided. The manager has experience of the shop owner of the guest house, coffee, sugar, blanket lending etc are free in the custom of guesthouse. There are people who do not use washing machines, toothbrushes, bath towels, so there is a fee to be fair as some people do not use them. It is a little away from downtown, but parking lot is free so it is recommended for those coming by car. Bike, bicycle parking lot is also the Onza い ま す. There is a large-sized mall's dumpling town nearby which is convenient for shopping. There is a bus stop for express bus which can go to other prefectures in Yume Town. There is a noodle shop that you can walk on foot.
City of Seto, Takamatsu. In recent years it is a popular area from overseas as a city of art.
  • It takes a while from the station to this place. But it’s really comfortable to stay. The facilities are brand new and in good quality. And I like the LP player, it’s nostalgia. The landlord is also very nice.

Tips, information, great hand drawn maps:) The place itself is magical, a house on a hill with a magnificent view over the bay is something we weren't expecting and was a pleasant surprise. Also the room we stayed at was a tradional japanese tatami room, very spacious and full of soft light. The kitchen was very cosy and well equipped, gathering all the people staying at the house every evening. It was a great pleasure to stay at Teppen's, we hope we will ba able to come back one day.

We were picked up at the station by her friend Takako, who drove us to the listing and helped us get our bearings. A really delightful experience - we're thinking of coming back here on a future trip for a longer stay!

The home feels completely private at the end of the road, with beautiful ocean and beach views - though it's a quick and easy bike ride into town to catch ferries to the islands, grocery shop, and visit the bathhouse. When we were having trouble with the bike tires, Takako's husband came over within minutes with a pump to help us! At the close of our trip, Takako went out of her way to help us fill out forms in Japanese so we could send our luggage to another location in the country. We can't wait to have another opportunity to visit - this was a real highlight of the trip, and we will hold these memories dear. Thank you, Michiko and Takako!

  • Easily one of the most amazing and beautiful stays I've ever experienced though airbnb. The location is second to none with stunning views. Only minutes from Uno station and Uno dock it was easy to explore the amazing Naoshima. Takako was an exceptional host who made us feel very welcomed and was extremely helpful. We are honoured to be the first guests of Michiko's extraordinary house. If you have the privilege of staying in such a place and meeting Takako you are very lucky. I'll definitely find myself back here again.

  • If you want a quiet, delightful, clean, and relaxing trip, stay at Michiko's place. The house is cute inside and out with gorgeous sea views. The beds were great. And the many amenities including parka, bike, tea, sweets, and happy helpful hosts made everything perfect. My heart is truly touched by Michiko and her wonderful friends who treated me like loving family and kept me happy and safe on my solo adventure to Naoshima and beyond. I cannot say enough. This is what airbnb is all about, bringing people together. Thank you so very much!

  • This must be the best airbandb in the whole world! Totally perfect- heavenly view, wonderful manager, Takako who met us at the station and took us back for our train away, and had taken great care in preparing Michiko's house for us.It really is the perfect place from which to visit Naoshima- and then spend a day relaxing and digesting that experience. Enjoy!

  • Wow! This place is such a gem! Arrived in Uno Port in Tamano and was met by lovely and very informative, Takako who drove me to the accommodation. The house is situated right at the end of a narrow winding street that follows the mouth of the river to the beginning of the inland sea. The views are amazing. I had my own private beach with no one in sight. A rare find almost anywhere in the world but particularly in Japan with such a high population density. So I went for a morning swim at my private beach and met up with a few fishy friends....heaven!!

  • Kureishi is a fantastic host, all was very very good and even with our bad english we were able to speak easely. Kureishi is a very kind person and very interesting and a great cooker ! You understand : a lot of "very" ! One of our best experience with Airbnb. Also Teshima island is a unique place with the fabulous musem : "Teshima Museum". We were here for triennale Setouchi contemporary art and it's a very good idea to visit the island in the same time.

    valerie2016-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time at Kureishi's house! He was a perfect host. Picked us up from there ferry, loaned us bikes, and gave us great suggestions. I would highly recommended dinner with Kureishi's family too, if possible. It was the highlight of our trip to Japan.

    Cat2016-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • Kureishi's place was great! He is kind, helpful and a great cook! He went out of his way to pick up and drop us off at the port, at the restaurant when it was raining, and also helped us book rental cycles during Golden Week! The room was clean, very comfortable and the bath was amazing. We would love to come back. Highly recommended.

  • Great expérience in Teshima. Kureishi was there when we arrived by boat, he explained us everything about his island and helped us to find bycicle at the cheapest price, the more convenient way to access easily teshima museum and travel around the island. He helped us a lot, shared his stories with humor and even came at the pier to tell us goodbye. The house is extremly clean, typically japanese and the traditionnal bath is really enjoyable. Staying in Teshima, at Kureishi's house, was the best part of our trip. Thank you for your kindness, we hope to come again.

  • Wonderful experience living in this traditional house,Kureishi is a wonderful host who is deeply friendly! It's about 15mins walk from Ieura port,in the froot of a little montain, very quiet. Clean tidy comfortable!

  • This was a wonderful place to stay on Teshima. I would highly recommend this to anyone thinking about visiting Teshima. Kureishi was an incredibly gracious, helpful and just down right cool host. His house is very well maintained, including an awesome old-school soaking tub. He helped us with all the information we might need to visit Teshima leading up to the trip. Overall, totally excellent.

    Nikolai2016-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • Kureishi-San has been very kind, helpful and fun throughout our conversations and our stay with him on Teshima. He kindly picked us up from the ferry, arranged great e-bikes for us, and sent us on his bikes to enjoy the sunset in the evening. We enjoyed a delicious dinner and breakfast together and had fun conversations. Kureishi-San made this island even more an unforgettable remote beautiful and peaceful island!

    Christine2016-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • Kureishi was an incredible host, making us feel so at home during our stay in Teshima. He made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our time on the island, including providing bikes. The apartment was well located and extrememly comfortable. I highly recommend staying here to explore all the art the island has to offer

Two storied Japanese house located only 5-min-walk from Ieura port. We offer a private Japanese room on the 1st floor for our guests. Two girls has just moved in and live on the 2nd floor. Bathroom, kitchen and dining room are shared with us. The building will be renovated this winter so you will find some oldness. The location is good.
  • Keiko is an amazing HOST,the house is easy to find ,very good location ,5 mins walk from Ieura port ~it's a comfortable and relax place to stay.Highly recommend !

  • I could not recommend this place enough! The room was clean and looked just like in the pictures - very authentic japanese style with a pleasant tatami mat smell. After having a nice conversation in her house (Keiko speaks perfect English!), she was kind enough to show us around the town and recommended us all the galeries / museums and cafes that we should visit. She is very knowledgeable about Teshima and other islands in the Seto sea, so you can ask her for any advice about your trip. Keiko made us feel very welcome with her kindness and hospitaly which is, besides the beautiful nature and increadible art, one of the reasons we want to come back to Teshima again! Highly recommend this place! *there is a beautiful beach 10min walking distance from the house *would recommend staying for more than just 1 night

    Miha2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Keikos place is amazing! It's perfectly located and unbelievably beautiful. I fully recommend it and hope I can come back one day. Also Keiko is a very kind and helpful person so its just perfect!

  • My sister and I had a lovely stay at Keiko's place. It was spacious and welcoming, and a great spot from which to explore the island of Teshima. Keiko san was a wonderfully friendly host and we had the chance to enjoy some good chats with her. I would definitely stay here for longer in the future.

    Ai2017-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Keiko's house is far more beautiful than it shows!!!she has a beautiful front yard and the house is so Japanese style!! The room is big, i think it can stay up for six ppl! And the kitchen is well equipped! The bathroom!! You can either take a show or have a bath!and also the bathroom is just so big!! The only thing is the room is a little cold maybe it's just too big lol! I would definitely stay again if I come again! Keiko is also so nice! Helped us a lot during our stay. Hope we didn't bring you trouble cuz we are not good at separating waste

    Shuang2017-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Keiko has a great traditional Japanes house (and quite big for Japanese standards). It is very close to the Ieura Port in Teshima, where most of the ferries stop. Tatami floors, futons, wooden surfaces... Really nice, more than one could expect. The two rooms on the ground floor have a cute balcony facing the garden. And the big bath is really gorgeous! The house is old, but still it has everything you need. On the other hand, Keiko is very nice and she is always ready to help. The island is great, with a bit less infrastructure than Naoshima, but really authentic.

    miquel2017-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Staying on Teshima at Keiko's place was great! Great communication. She was very accommodating. I arrived early to enjoy a full day on the island and she let me leave my bags there so I didn't have to worry about coin lockers. It's by the port so you don't have to worry about taking a bus to get to her place. Also, she helped me rent an electric bike, which I recommend if you come to Teshima. Her house is very nice and, more importantly, very clean. Comfortable futon on the tatami. Will definitely stay here again if I make it back to Teshima. Thanks Keiko!

    John2017-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Keiko is a very kind and attentive host. She lives in a large house with plenty of space to move around within. The part we lived in was in a traditional Japanese style, with an attention to details. Lots of exciting detailing. The house has not been renovated since the seventies, so one has to have that in consideration. Teshima do not have a developed tourism such as Naoshima, pros and cons. There are very few restaurants, but you will get a very unique experience of a traditional fishing villigare. The accommodations is highly recommendable.

Miyanoura shared house is the place for people who would love to have new experience living in a small island. There are 3 private rooms and total 7people can stay in the house. It is 50years old, so the sliding door of the room is made by wooden frame and glass with lock. It is located at a few minute walk from the port, restaurants and a convenience store. Home appliances and free wifi are equipped. Approximately 10m2
This house is located at Miyanoura area which is the main gate of Naoshima island. For people who would like to have an experience of island life. Stay here as your home.
Miyanoura port: 7 minutes by walk. Convenience store: 3 minutes by walk. Bus stop: 3 minutes by walk . Public bath: 5 minutes by walk.
  • Cozy traditional house I would recommend to any of my friends.

  • This is a lovely place to stay on a most unique island. 4 days went all too fast.

    stephen2017-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Sae is very friendly and considered. The tatami-room is quite comfortable though feeling a little wet. The equipments are sufficient and easy to use. Recommended to stay for island-living.

    Irene2016-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Sae's place was a short walk from the port and more importantly the convenience store which made it very accessible. It was clean, modern and yet retained a sense of the traditional. Sae was a great host picking us up from the port showing us where to park and providing us with lots of useful information. There's also a gorgeous string of lights to guide you home as streetlamps are not very prevalent on the island. However there was never a moment in which we felt unsafe. A great place and experience!

    Alisa2016-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Sae and her daughter met us at the Ferry and walked with us to Miyanoura House. Miyanoura House is a beautiful spacious traditional home with a very well equipped kitchen. She emailed us English information for ferry timetables. Good maps and information of the local area were provided. The neighbourhood was very quite even though it was close to shops and facilities. The insect screened Tatami room was well ventalated and we were able to comfortably sleep without having to use the air conditioner. Sae checked we had everything we wanted, and provided everything we needed. It was a most comfortable enjoyable stay. We would willingly have stayed longer if our schedule allowed. Highly recommended. Thank you Sae.

    Ren2016-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • We're couple travelers spent 3 nights in Ms. Sae's place in Naoshima. Got the tatami room on first floor. We had a great stay here. Everthing was clean, comfortable bedding set, stable internet connection, authentic house, very close to 7-11 and Miyanoura pier. Ms. Sae was so kind and helpful. She gave useful and accurate info and tips for going around Naoshima and nearby islands. At night, the narrow lane to the house can be very dark, few candle lights provided. But overall we're very happy. Recommend this place. We'll definitely come back here again.

    Pun2017-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • In terms of location, Sae's place was a very short walk away from the Miyanoura Port (5 minutes) and a minute away from one of the few 7-11s on the island, perfect to grab a quick onigiri breakfast or beer for the late night. It is also very close to the local bathhouse (5 minute walk), as well as the general cluster of restaurants near the port. It takes around 20 minutes to walk to each of the two primary art sites (the art house project/Ando museum cluster or the Benesse/Chichu/Lee Ufan Museum cluster). Location aside, Sae was an amazing host. Her attention to detail (labels on the bathroom with translated directions, a specialized area of the fridge for guests, the binder full of maps and information to take for both Naoshima and Teshima) was exceptional. She waited out in the cold to make sure me and my friend was able to check-in our luggage (after some miscommunication) and was just a great, warm-hearted, caring host. The house itself was probably the most "authentic" Japanese home I stayed at during my entire trip, discounting the ryokan (which was much more expensive) I booked in Kyoto. The living room is expansive, the bedroom was properly heated, and the full kitchen (with fridge, stove, utensils etc) was a bonus. The tatami styled room was comfortable and clean. Sae told me that she was trained as an architect, and it really shows with this house. The small procession of mini-solar panel LED lights in glass jars was just one of the small touches that made the house all the more enjoyable; it reflected the spirit of the whole island. Quiet, full of detail, welcoming, and overwhelming genuine. Highly recommended for anyone planning on staying on Naoshima Island for more than 2 days.

  • Beautiful, old home with modern touches. We really enjoyed our stay and felt very comfortable. The owner was easy to communicate with. This was one of our best Airbnb experiences. I definitely recommend this house over the overpriced hotels in the area.

We have shower with modern hot-water supply equipment. Small kitchen, separated toilet. We serve separated room with bed.
  • A very quiet, comfortable place to stay. The spaces are small but clean, and the wood gives off a wonderful smell. Also: fantastic shower! The kitchen has a very advanced stove and oven, microwave, refrigerator, etc. However, some items are lacking, such as a frying pan, kitchen knife, cutting board, dinner plates, forks, cooking oil, salt, etc. If you plan to cook here, be aware you may need to bring some things you didn't expect to. The area is quite remote, so you can really get away from busy city life. And the locals are very friendly. Note that while there's water nearby, the beaches are rocky, so don't plan on relaxing in the sand without traveling a little while. If you come by bus, you'll probably have to transfer in Yasuda (安田), and the last bus from there is around 4PM, so be careful! A taxi from Yasuda is about 3000円. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

Designed around the idea of "shibui" (subdued and simple) we are proud to offer the feeling of Japan in a private, comfortable whole house where I hope you can not only relax and unwind, but also experience the beauty of Japanese culture through tatami, earthen walls, sliding doors, tile and washi (Japanese paper). The Uno port ferry is 3 min by nearby train so we serve as an ideal gateway to the Inland Sea islands, including of course Naoshima, Teshima and Inujima.
I'd like to make it easier for families, so for young people 2-12 I'd like to offer 2000 yen per child instead of 3000 yen for regular guests, which I can send as a "special offer" when you send me a message. Also written is that check in time is 3-6 pm, but we can discuss other times, 3-6 is just a basic idea. We should be able to pick you up from Bizen Tai Station (3 min from Uno Port Station) and drop you off when you come and leave, notwithstanding unforeseen events. That station is around an 8 min walk or 4 min bike ride from our house and one stop from Uno Port Station which is next to the ferry. [NOTE: Please see "The Neighborhood" ==> "Getting Around" below for other options, or contact me close to when you come] We also have two (sometimes 3) electric-assisted bikes that you can rent for 800 yen each per day which makes it super easy to bike straight ONTO the ferry (around 12 min) and then use on the islands themselves (you save money)! You can also store bags with us if you need to pick them up after you check out, but before you are finished with Naoshima, etc. Oh and just in case beds are as important to you as to me, the main bed is a new Sealy with Egyptian cotton high thread count sheets so you should enjoy that!
The area is one in which my wife's family has a lot of history. Her family going back many generations came from here. Our BnB is set in a large section in between our house and an amazing Edo period house that I am looking to renovate next year. We grow some of our own vegetables (including amazing flavored tomatoes, cucumber, potatoes, pumpkin, and corn) and have fruiting trees including fig, apple, peach, olive, feijoa, and mulberry trees. There is a convenience store around 3 min walk from our house, and a low-cost Taiwanese restaurant a further 100 meters from that. There are also noodle shops and a slightly higher end Japanese restaurant very close by. There is a nice Farmer's Market and lovely park around 10 minutes from our house by electric-assisted bike, as well as an organic shop, again around 10 mins bike from our house. Near our house there are large tree covered hills which are nice to walk in. Also there is a really great beach with a view of Teshima and Shodoshima about 20 min by electric-assisted bicycle/ normal bike (we hire bikes) that we love to go to in summer and would be happy to guide you to!
  • A nice and quiet location, Brett and his family are very kind and helpful hosts. The day we arrived we went to the beach all together. It's possible to rent Brett's bicycles so it's easy to reach all the nice places.

    Julian2017-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice cottage in a quiet and easy accessible neighbourhood (Brett and Sayako picked us up at the nearby station but it is at walking distance). The cottage is Japanese style with personal touch and Brett and Sayako are very good and relaxed hosts who can tell a lot about their place and the surroundings. We also had a nice barbecue together. The bikes that are for rent are a great way to get around for there is more to see than Naoshima island (absolutely worthwhile but our hosts will have others tips as well). When you plan a trip to Naoshima go to this place to experience good hospitality!

    Liselot2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful stylish place, with everything you need, and -most importantly- perfectly placed to visit the art islands of Naoshima and Teshima. Brett & Siako were very welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable hosts, who rented us electric bikes (the best way to get around the art islands) and showed us the best beaches. A great place, thoroughly recommended.

    Simon2017-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • We have been to quite a few Airbnb’s and I must say this has been the best experience we have ever had. Brett and his wife were the most gracious and hospitable hosts, they to us epitomize the highest ideals of what Airbnb aspires to. Staying at their place is an experience that you cannot find in a hotel and had so many extra touches that are a work of love. The home itself is so textured with many different types of materials; from exquisite papers and prints to wood paneling, and tiles and colours and most importantly the comfy bed. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer. When you come and stay here please go and use the Onsen in the town for a unique insight into Japanese culture.

    Cara2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Everything we could write can't even describe our feeling after this two amazing days. Brett and his wife, their place, were much better than everything we could ever expect. The house is perfect, all was super beautiful, very japanese, well equipped and perfectly clean! Brett was very helpful in every ways! It was our best experience in Japan, and ever on Airbnb! We hope to come back as soon as possible. Again thank you both of you for your kindness! It was amazing!!!

  • Great host great place, best bnb experience I've had do far!

    Eugene2017-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay on your way to naoshima! Brett was a thoughtful host and had all the amenities for us. The house was very quaint and relaxing - a nice change after apartment hopping in the larger cities.

    Krista2017-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful and remarkable stay at Brett's place! Brett and his wife invested a lot of time and energy to build a unique guesthouse. They combined traditional Japanese style with Mediterranean elements and Western comfort (with a perfect double bed). The result is a comfortable guesthouse suitable for our family. The hospitality of Brett and his wife is fantastic. They were able to pick us up from the station, guided us through their village and showed us a very nice unspoiled beach. We could even join a BBQ. We could rent his bikes so we could easily explore the surrounding and Naoshima by bike. They are very friendly without being intrusive, they respect your privacy. This is a perfect place to explore Naoshima, it is just a short trip by bike to the ferry which runs daily to Naoshima. We surely recommend a stay at Brett's place!

  • Ayako was very friendly and helpful. Her place is as well very comfortable! Thank you very much!

    Jeanne2016-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • Ayako was waiting outside for use when we arrived and was very welcoming. She was a gracious and helpful host giving us loads of useful info about timetables, ferries, restaurants and museums etc. The location is perfect for exploring Naoshima and the other nearby islands and is located a few minutes walk from a fabulous onsen/restaurant (definitely try it!!!) We were there in winter and the house was rather cold but Ayako kindly put her only heater in one of our rooms. With the onsen we got properly warmed up before bed and slept very well in spite of the thin mattresses. There was a bit of a kerosene smell but it wasn't constant and didn't bother our sleep. The optional Japanese breakfast was simple and lovely. Ayako has renovated 3 of the 4 rooms and they are lovely. There is still more work to be done and the bathroom facilities are basic. But I would recommend this as a good place to stay - especially in the warmer months.

    Linda2015-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect location, between the train station and the ferry station ! That was really easy to get to Naoshima. Ayako was not there for the check in but everything was clear and there was a little folder about the house waiting for us. The Ninja Room made us feel like Ninjas since you get in through the window ;-) Carefull with your big bags ! Bad point : we couldn't turn off the light in the hallway and that lighted up very much the room... The little library is really nice ! You can read books (not only in Japanese) in front of the sea... just perfect. Thank you!

  • Great place to stay. Ayako is a wonderful host providing so much information and local knowledge for exploring the area. Her place is the perfect location for exploring the islands, directly opposite the ferry terminal. The rooms are comfortable and very clean.

    Sarah2016-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The room was lovely - just like the images: traditional and surprisingly large. Unfortunately, like old Japanese houses, this one got very cold at night and there's a bit of noise from other guests, since our room was right in front of the bathrooms. Internet also super slow. Regardless, the location is fantastic, right in front of the ferry to the art islands. I would stay again for sure.

    Andre2017-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • Well located between uno jr station and ferry. Comfortable bed. Nice decor. Shared bathroom gets a little crowded at times. Host was friendly and helpful getting us oriented

    Laura2017-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • Ayako's house is a very charming place in Japanese style. It is very convenient to reach the art islands Naoshima, Teshima and Inujima (at least they were the ones we visited) since it is right in front of the ferry terminal. Ayako and her friends are extremly nice and interesting to chat with, she helped us to organize our trip and gave us good advice about what to see. Looking forward to see her again!

  • I and my colleagues stayed at Inoue-san's place for one night. Simply the place is awesome! Very traditional Japanese style house renovated with modern technique. I especially liked the small garden (Engawa) inside the house. I am sure you will enjoy sleeping with Futon on the tatami floor. The area is close to the seashore and I heard recently old warehouses were renovated by the designer, there are some cool cafes restaurants and bakery close to the place. Thank you so much Inoue-san!

  • This apartment is a traditional Japanese style house, located in a quiet area of Takamatsu, at about 15 minutes walk to the train station and the shopping area. The apartment is very nicely arranged and equipped, with a very beautiful Japanese garden inside. It is very clean- the house gets cleaned every day and also fresh towels are provided every day. The kitchen is well equipped; although we did some shopping for our own food, our host let us find some fresh croissants and fruit for breakfast every day. In the bathroom there is a shower with bamboo floor and also a nice stone bathtub. Air conditioning system is very efficient and silent. Traditional style beds are very comfortable. For people who don't speak Japanese, sufficient explanations are provided for using the appliances and utilities in English language.

    Gaetano2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a perfect choice if you want to experience traditional Japanese house. Besides, it's much more spacious than an average Japanese hotel! All of my family enjoyed the stay very much. The owner is very friendly and helpful with all our questions.

  • I can't just say this is a nice room, but also a perfect room. Everything is nice and clean, Ms Masako was so kind and passionate. She prepared the bread for us, however we bought ours so we dont want to waste it. Room is easy to find and very clean. The outlook was extraordinary but the inside was clean and you will not worry about hygiene. When we first enter the room, the wood smell was comfortable, relax and we all love it. The price for four guest was so reasonable. We will definitely chose it if we come to Takamatsu again. Thanks.

    BRIAN2017-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was a very comfortable and peaceful place to stay! Easy to walk to from the train station or to get into town. We loved everything about it!

    Alexa2017-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • Masako's place was so beautiful and cool. Authentic but modern Ryokan style. Everything is just amazing. Well equiped and spaicous space. Masako-san is so kind, and friendly. The neighborhood is the best place in Takamatsu city. There are nice bar & shops around the stay. Thank you so much Masako-san! You made our day!!

  • This house is really beautiful. I only stayed with my Japanese friend for one night as we were visiting Naoshima, but even she said how beautiful it was and how it was one of the best places she had stayed in. Loads of space, all the essentials you need, and a lovely bath and small garden. Although it looks traditional in style, it is modern with air conditioning. The port is approximately 10 minutes walk and is fairly easy to find. We both left hoping to stay longer in the future. Definitely worth a stay and the host is very kind.

  • The listing description was accurate. Its a very cool space! Unusual and full of character!!! Matsue the host was friendly, welcoming and we had all that we needed to be very comfortable. Such an unusual and unique space! The biggest room I've ever seen on Airbnb! Nice neighborhood. Easy to walk to restaurants, bars, shops. With a train station very close. The host provided some excellent information and tips on things to do. Local knowledge, much better than a guidebook!

    Natasha2015-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • I can highly recommend Natsue-san's place for anyone looking to stay in Takamatsu. It is well located close to transportation, clean, comfortable and well-stocked with everything you could possibly need. It is also likely to be the largest place you'll stay in the whole of Japan! I stayed there alone but the room could accommodate many. The best thing about the property, though, is Natsue herself as well as all of the staff at FACES, who are all kind, friendly, helpful and extremely welcoming.

    Alex2016-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great time at Faces! Nari and Natsue were very helpful. I arrived about 12:30 at night to Takamatsu station and Nari came to pick me up. The apt is super cool and would be a great place to stay with a bunch of friends. On the first floor is their hair salon, Nari gave me a nice haircut as well!

    Guy2016-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Natsue-san and everyone at FACES were very welcoming during our stay at Takamatsu. The accommodation was one of the most interesting places I've had the pleasure of staying at, with a whole floor to yourself. You can choose from a range of different beds, and it comes equipped with a great kitchen as well. Overall, I've had a fantastic stay at FACES, and I think the staff made it a genuinely pleasant experience.

    Ryan2016-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • Very unique stay-- we loved all the retro furniture and having the whole top floor of the building to ourselves! Be aware that it would be tricky for a couple to sleep together given that there are just single beds. We didn't meet Natsue, but her brother welcomed us warmly. We mostly came and went while the salon on the first floor (the ap't is on the 4th floor) was closed, but everyone seemed very nice when we did run into them. Great place to stay in Takamatsu!

    Jean & Sam2016-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great time staying with Nari and his kind family! They were very hospitable and friendly and the price of our stay was good. I wouldnstay there again.

    Terry2015-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Hands down my best airbnb experience - my only regret is not being able to stay there for longer. The apartment is simply incredible; filled with vintage and retro furniture and decor, and yet has everything you could need. I didn't manage to meet with Natsue, but Nari, (owner of the hairdressing salon), is such a lovely person. I had a really warm welcome from him and his colleagues, and they also played a big part in making my stay at FACES a wonderful experience. From visiting the magical island of Naoshima, to returning to such a kick-ass apartment, it's definitely become the highlight of my trip. I very much look forward to staying here again - and next time for longer!

    Tara2016-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • Nice and big place to stay at Clean and tidy as well Quiet neighborhood and very nice accommodation by the host Two things to be noted: no key for your floor (no one would barge in anyway), but there's a key for the building And there are no curtains to the big windows on one side, so you will wake up with full sunlight. But nicely the host offered an eye mask so you can sleep in till late

This house will start on the 7th July 2017. I'm a Japanese dental technician. My wife is an interior designer from Hong Kong . The area is quiet. There is a lot of pure wooden in our room. Outside is the fragrance of the sea. You can relax by a wooden fragrance. There is Fisherman's Wharf and Smoll fish market and, it's very near from Takamatsu station & ferry port. So, you can go to very easy some Islands & center of Takamatsu city!
The interior is a room with a lot of pure trees. The room where the fragrance of the pure tree can be enjoyed. The center wholesale market is at 1 minute on foot. But there are many stores where you can eat fresh fish tempura and sashimi. There is a shipyard of a small ship.
supermarket for 5 minutes convenience store for 10 minutes Curry shop, Chinese food and roast meat On foot, 10 minutes
  • We both loved the authentic japanese apartment and the nearby fishing port. The distance to Takamatsu station is about 25 min by foot, which can be a bit tiresome after a long day - if you don't have a car and plan to stay longer we'd recommend renting bikes. Toshi was really nice and helpful, he picked us up from the station and brought us back. He recommended sights and restaurants, told us how to get there and offered his help to find everything we wanted to see.

    Matthias2017-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment: large apartment with sleeping room, living room, and kitchen. Japanese toilet. The area: walking distance to gas station, Family Mart, grocery store, fish market, and train station. Can find free parking nearby if you drive. The host: friendly and flexible. Met us at an easy-to-find landmark before guiding us to the apartment. When we arrived earlier than planned, he came immediately to meet us. Provided a map and helped us locate local and famous spots in and around Takamatsu. Best stay we have had with a host since joining Airbnb.

  • We had a great stay in Takamatsu. Toshi was very friendly and he picked us up from the station and brought us back the final day. It's around 25 min by foot but we rented bikes at the station (only 200 yen per day or 100 for 6 hours!) so we mainly used those. The apartment is in the port which is interesting. There was a good and big supermarket nearby

  • It's so happy to be the first guest of this hostel, Shan and toshi was very helpful and kindly. The hostel is comfortable and clear. Also they were so consideration, the kitchen is full gear for you cook here. Here is close to the sea, you can easily enjoy the sea view sunset here. It's a good experience for stay in takamatsu, if i visit here again I'll choose this host again !

  • Toshi is a very nice host! he welcomed us and told us about his house very details! He also answerd our questions quickly. He is very helpful! His bnb is a tradition japanese house, it is a bit old but clean and tidy. One thing should notice is that the house only have a traditional japanese toilet. Maybe some of the travelers may not get use to it. The place is easy to a access by car, it is convenient to me!

  • Toshi-san is so kind and he recommended me great places and restaurants. He even bring me to the local festival. The house is huge and very clean with a traditional Japanese atmosphere. Highly recommended and hope to stay here next time when I visit Takamatsu.

Located in southeast of Shodoshima Island. It is about 10 minutes walk from Sakate Port.

  • Really a good place for family to stay. We used (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map to find it and it showed the accurate position actually. There are lot of info shared by Totie in advance. Very good view here very close to the Sakate Port. Anyway I think coming here in warmer days can be even better. Guess we would come here next time...

  • It located at hillside of a small village. A bit difficult to find since we arrived late and completely dark. However the village people are friendly and helpful. They helped to phone the host to receive us at the road side. The place is interesting and quiet, the house is in good condition. It provide everything you need. The sea view in the next morning is good too. The host gave us necessary information before our arrival.

  • We had very pleasant stay at the house when visiting. It was spacious, spotless and had everything we might need. Checking in was convenient too, we didn't spend too much trouble finding the house with all the sign posts. Pity that we couldn't have stayed longer.

    Wenyan2017-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • If you want an authentic stay in the se touchi/shodoshima area, this is the perfect place! It is renovated from an old Japanese house (as seen in the pics) and very well maintained, plus you can probably fit a whole family in there. The only problem we ran into was some little bugs in the house but since the surrounding is nature it's hard to prevent. Me and my brother went to the island for an art festival around the region, and absolutely fell in love with it :) Transportation might be tricky so I do recommend renting a car in order to be more efficient, there are just too many great things to see!

  • Wonderful traditional style home in a relaxing, quiet beautiful village (might be less quiet during tourist season, but take the advice about no grocery stores seriously! There's a supermarket in the next village though). Much recommended for great atmosphere, sleeping on tatami mats, mountain and sea sights and experiencing village life.

  • This was an amazing Airbnb experience. Miyoko met us at the ferry and walked back to her place with us, helping us with our suitcases. We stayed in the loft above Miyoko's kitchen. She was a wonderful host, kind and helpful in every way. We ate dinner at her place both nights and it was delicious gourmet Japanese food using local ingredients. We also got to learn about Japanese cooking and I made miso soup with her and learned the Japanese way of setting up a plate of food. She also provided us with breakfast, a delicious Japanese warm smoothie that she invented the recipe for. If you are willing to try something different and unique this is an amazing place to stay. The island Ogijima is also secluded while at the same time being very close to the nearest city Takamatsu. It is a really peaceful and beautiful place. We look forward to coming back again in the future, and staying with Miyoko again!

------------------------ This listing is located on the top of the hill side of 男木島 (Ogi-jima) where you can get at by ferries from Takamatsu city. We really liked the atmosphere of the island and the 100-year-old traditional house! Miyoko was so kind and helpful that she got us dressed with her kimono, showed us around the island, and prepared many sorts of dishes using local ingredients. Highly recommended for those who wants to experience non-touristic stay in Japan!

I entered a path. You can see the beautiful Setouchi from the window. Spend a special time with you and your partner only.
It is a beautiful Seto Inland Sea that you can see from the window. There is no place to see the SSetouchi Sea so beautifully. Shampoo made by olive is also available.
  • Irou's place is a very quiet house by the sea with great views. Room setting is like a hotel twin bed room not an apartment. It's a great place to stay if you rent a car. The host is very warm hearted. Highly recommended.

  • Nice place if you have a car. Private with nice see view. But be prepared to be a little scared about cleanness, everything in the room from carpet to walls is stained, the room smells of mold and the time we were there we found pubic hair in the bath towels and for body wash there was only one soap bar that the previous costumers previously used. To my opinion this was pretty gross, unacceptable even for a bnb.
