  • This was our 5th trip to Julian and our 1st stay at Leigh’s place- and we are very thankful to Leigh for this wonderful experience! It is a very genuine place- a truly perfect fit for someone who wants to explore Julian and its beautiful surroundings, but also for someone who enjoys spending time staying at one place and just relaxing. The property itself is a very interesting experience, with plenty of things to explore- you can walk around, hike to Julian, interact with horses (Duster is so lovely!), observe so many birds (hummingbirds, wild turkeys, woodpeckers, owls, hawks, even parrots)! And you get to meet Curly the Emu, who is very curious, friendly and totally adorable! The cottage is comfortable and stylish, with many personal touches, very clean, it has everything you may need or think about (plush king bed, softest towels, fridge, ac unit, shower with good water pressure, even snacks:). The yard is so beautiful, with flowers, sitting place, hammock- and nature around. We will be back very soon!

  • Outstanding, beautiful getaway. Highly recommended. If your looking to get away from the city to experience nature and peacefulness this is the place.

    Joshua2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Magical place! We loved the cozy cottage, the horses and emus, and the short and scenic walk into town. The cottage has a coffee machine with plenty of tea/coffee, a fridge, snacks, a hotplate, and a small and clean bathroom. Large bed. No TV, but very good WiFi for your devices. Heater/AC unit. Wonderful outdoor seating. The oak trees give it a sense of privacy. We hope to be back!

  • What a fun trip we had! My 2 young children LOVED this place! Leigh is such a warm, easy to talk to, accommodating host. It's serene, quiet and just warms your heart. We definitely will be back :)

    Edita2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Leigh's place is nestled in country mountains about a mile and a half outside of Julian. Comfortable King-size bed, nice amenities, amazing natural scenery. In the fridge was a Tupperware containers with carrots to feed two horses that graze the property. Also there is a wondering Emu that sometimes like to stop by and rest in front of the Cottage. You can't get this at a hotel! Leigh's little country cottage is what makes AirBnB a great alternative.

    Brian2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at this beautiful cottage! We met Leigh’s wonderful horses on the first day, and one of the curious emus the next morning. The space, and land are gorgeous, and so close and easy to get to Julian. We had an amazing time.

  • Staying at the Enchanted Oaks cottage was truly a wonderful delight. Waking up in the morning to the sun rays coming through the windows was more than perfect. Moreover, enjoying a cup of coffee on the front deck while feeling the fresh crisp air and hearing the birds chirp was quite wholesome. My partner and I also enjoyed seeing the stars at night while having a glass of wine; after it would start to feel a bit cold the Enchanted Oaks cottage kept us very warm and cozy. Also, the fact that downtown Julian is only a 4 minute drive was excellent! We enjoyed some delicious food and of course we couldn’t leave without trying the famous Julian pies. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who’s seeking the perfect getaway.

    Mike2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the vibe here! We enjoyed feeding the horses their carrots, watching the birds, and having Curly greet us at the porch. Couldn’t have asked for a more peaceful getaway!

    Joni2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • I was participating in a wolf event at the California Wolf Center and needed to be there very early in the morning, so I had to spend the night in the Julian area. I found Mario's place and thought it would be perfect for me. The bed is comfortable, there are plenty of viewing options on the TV. I know there's a gorgeous view but the weather conditions when I was there were rain, fog and wind storm so unfortunately I couldn't enjoy it! Maybe next time. I would definitely come back to Mario's place for another stay.

  • This is such a great gateway. Home is cozy and beautifully renovated, has all the essentials and every single window looks out to the trees and mountains. Such a wonderful place to relax. We love Julian and live closed by , for us it was a fun and relaxing experience.

    Gabby2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This home is perfect. Nice quiet neighborhood. Clean and cozy. Close to the town of Julian with great restaurants but also close to the William Heise County Park which has some great hiking trails. We'll definitely stay here again. Thanks Richard for sharing your house with us.

    Wayne2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Loved our short stay here! It's modern but still very cozy, and everything is new, sparkling clean (very important for us 'cause when it's not, ew), and in good working order. Exactly as advertised including with the cottage being a separate single home - not attached to anything and several feet from neighbors. All the small thoughtful touches were what really put this place over the top - like an abundance of outlets, including USB charging ports + electric outlets by the bed, plenty of basic staples and tools in the kitchen, soft extra large bath towels, the heated tile floor in the bathroom, and built-in closet shelves and hangers. Still wishing I had a hot filtered water tap in my kitchen. One thing to note is that the turn into the driveway is a touch steep so you may want to be aware of cars that may not handle a slightly steep slope while turning up a hillside well. We drove a small SUV so our ground clearance was fine. We curled up on the comfy couch with our Corgi in his bed by the electric fireplace and got to chill, read, make breakfast burritos, binge Netflix, and listen to the rain. Made for an awesome quick getaway just when we needed one. Can't wait to come back for a longer stay! Highly recommend staying here if you're in Julian.

  • I can't say enough good about this place along with Richard and Tera!! It is super clean and bright, well-equipped with all you'd need for a one-night or many night stay! It is literally three minutes away from downtown Julian and yet feels like you're out in the wilderness as you look out from the deck or living room window! A fancy hotel has NOTHING on this place. You have privacy, room to move around and not feel confined like in a hotel room, enjoy a fire pit and a star gazing platform (a telescope is also included), enjoy the mountain bikes that come with the unit, cuddle up under a TV blanket (two are provided) and watch a favorite movie by the fireplace (electric fire so no worries about firewood and such) or read a book out on the deck, have friends over and enjoy time together out on the deck at the big table and cook some burgers, dogs, or steaks (or whatever) on the grill (also provided), or just relax and enjoy the sounds of the birds outside, of which there are tons!! If you are there for an extended time, there is a washer and dryer provided as well. We really enjoyed the fact that pots, pans, dishes, cups, and even a great spice rack were provided for our use! We had everything we needed and will definitely be going back!! Thank you so much, Richard and Tera for your fantastic hospitality!!!!

  • Spectacular space, beautiful setting, minutes to town. Clean, easy, great communication. Wish we could have stayed longer, thanks!

  • This gorgeous cabin tucked into a quiet part of Julian is an absolute dream! It’s simple yet thoughtfully decorated. The windows with views of nature and stars are beautiful. I loved everything about this bnb. It’s spotless, hosts make it simple to check in and out and privacy is respected which I appreciate when I’m going to a quiet time of solitude. Thank you so much.

    Malyssa2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a amazing beautiful place! It looks exactly the same as in the pictures, spacious with heartfelt touching and decors. Sparkling clean and got everything you’ll needed. The heated floor in bathroom is really a plus in a cold night. Close to downtown Julian but very quiet environment. Richard and Tera are friendly hosts, quick response and very helpful! Highly recommended if you want a getaway or visit the town.

We spent over a year lovingly renovating and remodeling this vintage fire lookout cabin into a luxury vacation rental with a spacious Hot Springs spa. The two-bedroom, one-bath cabin is just over a mile from the historic town of Julian, yet it’s a private sanctuary with panoramic forest and Volcan Mountain Preserve views.
THE STORY OF OUR CABIN The Julian Chamber of Commerce describes the town like this: “Julian, a state Historical District, is a former gold mining village nestled in the mountain forest. Julian is San Diego County’s year-round romantic retreat.” My children and I moved to San Diego five years ago, and one day my young daughter Samantha and I visited Julian. We were enamored by a sense of stepping back in time, and by the pristine beauty of the surrounding mountains and forests. We stopped by the Chamber of Commerce and noticed a tourism review of Julian written in 1870. Mary Morse, a schoolteacher from New England had arrived by horse and buggy and wrote: “After passing a ravine and ascending a sharp and rocky hill, the city of Julian in all its glory burst upon us. The sun was just setting and shown with that golden light so peculiar to California. I could have shouted with joy at the very sight. The pines and oaks were a magic green and every cabin and shanty nestled amongst them had a strangely enchanted look.” Samantha and I could not have described how we felt about Julian better, though nearly a century and a half had passed since those words were written. Later that day as we strolled past picturesque historic buildings and then down a quaint lane, my daughter turned to me and said, “Mom, will you always keep a cottage in Julian?” After three years of searching, we finally found the right property. It's situated in a quiet forested neighborhood just over a mile from town. It sits at the end of a long drive on its own hillside facing Volcan Mountain. It's surrounded by old-growth pine, manzanita and several types of oak, so it has a wonderful sense of solitude and privacy. Historically built as a lookout site for volunteer firemen, the cabin overlooks a breathtaking vista of forests and mountains. The cabin itself was in sad shape, but still captured the incredible charm and quality with its high-beamed knotty pine ceiling and picture windows in every room. It took a full year of hard work extensively renovating and remodeling, including adding a new energy-efficient roof 50-year roof, rain gutters, foundation work, beautiful new decks, gutting and total renovation inside, but the end result was worth all the effort. Every time we return to our cabin, we are comforted once again by a feeling of traveling back in time to a simpler era. The songs of mountain birds and breezes rippling through majestic trees fill our ears. The beauty of the forest and Volcan Mountain amaze us. It seemed natural to name our cottage “The Enchanted Lookout." THE ENCHANTED LOOKOUT: We recreated the home so that it looks like the historic home it is, yet contains every modern comfort and convenience. Our two-bedroom one bath 600 square foot cabin feels larger than it is because of high ceilings, large picture windows, and expansive views. WE DESIGNED THE SPACE TO BE SAFE FOR THOSE WITH ALLERGIES OR CHEMICAL SENSITIVITIES: The new highest quality forced air heat and cooling system contains a whole-house air purification system with HEPA filtration for the cleanest possible air. It also uses the newest chlorine-free R-410A refrigerant system that is ozone-friendly and non-toxic. We installed new 3/4 inch thick solid oak flooring so dust mites or other allergens found in the carpet will not irritate our guests. HIGH-END APPLIANCES AND OTHER DETAILS: 1. A new Samsung range and convection oven with hood and counter-top microwave 2. A Bosch dishwasher makes doing dishes easy. 3. A retro red designer SMEG refrigerator 4. The kitchen is well-equipped with new cooking ware, blender, crockpot, electric teapot, and coffee maker. You’ll also find some rare antique utensils. Basic condiments, spices, and coffee are included. Each group also receives a little gift of wine and chocolate (red or white, dark or milk chocolate). 4. A Jotul Norwegian wood-burning stove decorates the living room if one wants to watch the flames dance and reflect off our new 3/4 ” solid oak floors, or push a button for forced air cooling/heat. Please enjoy our collection of vintage records! 5. A new apple-red LG brand stack-able washer and dryer is concealed behind sliding doors for in-house laundry convenience. 6. A gorgeous slipper-style porcelain tub looks like an antique but it’s brand new and includes a convertible tub/standing shower feature. 7. High-end mattresses and luxurious bedding invite sweet dreams. We have a California King pillow top mattress in one bedroom, and a full-sized memory foam mattress in the second bedroom. Both mattresses have natural organic latex toppers for protection from allergens. Also, all pillows use allergen blocking covers. Sometimes people want to bring up to six people, so in the living room, we added a beautiful leather sofa that pulls out to a queen bed with an upgraded jell memory-foam mattress. Please note the full-size bed sleeps children or a smaller adult only. 8. A luscious five-person Hot Springs Spa and sleek Saber grill wait to be savored on one of our large decks overlooking exquisite forest and mountain scenery. 9. High-speed internet lets us stay connected, and wall-mounted flat-screen televisions in both bedrooms provide Dish Network with HBO, On Demand, and Showtime. 10. Last but not least, we filled the now beautiful space with art, classic books and antiques, many of which we had discovered and restored ourselves. A LITTLE HISTORY AND THE THE LAND: Julian was founded in 1869 when a local rancher and former slave named Fred Coleman discovered gold. For thousands of years before that, the Volcan mountains, the area that is now Julian, and portions of the desert below were heavily populated by Native Americans, and evidence of their occupation is everywhere. On hikes in the Volcan Mountains, we have seen ancient and massive oaks sheltering boulders pitted all over the surface with myriad large mortars (bowl-shaped holes in the stone once used by Native Americans to grind acorns and other seeds into a meal). The cabin overlooks the dividing line of where the high forest becomes the high desert. It’s almost a straight line down the face of Pechacho Peak (The highest peak in the Volcan Mountains)… to the left is forest, to the right is desert. Views from The Enchanted Lookout are of forest and mountain but walk up the road a block and you'll see a fantastic view of the Anza Borrego Desert. As a former student of Anthropology and Archaeology at UCLA, I was fascinated by what this geographic layout represents: Indigenous people all over the world considered geographic boundary areas, where different elements met, (freshwater/saltwater, mountain/desert, etc.,) to be powerful places of healing, transformation, and restoration. They were thought to be important places to make decisions or guide life choices, and Native American vision quests were often held in such places.
The Enchanted Lookout is only one and a half miles from the historic and bustling town of Julian, located in the quiet forested neighborhood of Whispering Pines, yet in in own secluded location. Enjoy our Daffodils & Lilacs in the spring, fall colors and sometimes a beautiful winter snow storm. WILDLIFE: Wild animals abound in the area. Besides the wonderful bird life we often see deer, raccoons and other wild creatures. PROXIMITY TO ATTRACTIONS: Walk or take very short drive to town with its restaurants, shopping, gold mine and other historic tours and museums, and just an all-around fun town. WINERIES: Julian and the surrounding areas have become a mecca for the creation of excellent wines, cider, craft beer breweries, and even mead! Walk or take a short drive to a world-class tasting of these beverages. The Nickel Beer Company, a craft beer brewery, is an easy walk from the cabin. Menghini Winery and Volcan Mountain Wineries are just 2 1/2 miles from the house. There are also several wine tasting venues in town. My favorite restaurant is Jeremy's on the Hill. It's gourmet, and the food is just great. The Enchanted lookout is about an hour's drive from the great city of San Diego, with its culture, nightlife, beautiful beaches, museums, The San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, Legoland, and SeaWorld. HIKING TRAILS: Walk or take a short drive to stunning hiking trails of the Volcan Mountain Preserve. Others nearby located Heise State Park, Cuyamaca State Park, the surround Cleveland National Forest, and the Anza Borrego desert below. Fish for Bass, Trout and even Sturgeon at nearby Lake Cuyamaca. And don't forget apple picking in the fall or snow sledding in winter. Jess Martin Park is minutes away and with it's baseball field, playground, barbecue pits and picnic tables. Drive down nearby Banner Grade to the Anza Borrego desert below for beauty and natural mineral hot springs.
  • Truly such a beautiful space with a great view to match. The photos do make it look bigger than it is, but it was perfect for my stay. Tamara was super quick to respond and very thoughtful. Can’t wait to come back.

Private kitchen has your own stove, oven, refrigerator & freezer, and is stocked with ceramic plates, bowls, silverware, pot & pan. There is a portable heater. Pet-friendly. Park right in front of your house. (Please note that we are in the mountains and it's wise to have different expectations from living in the city. While we do our very best to maintain running water and power, occasionally weather conditions and maintenance lead to temporary loss of one or both. We humbly request your patience and understanding if this should happen.) The house is pet-friendly, however please observe that we charge the same extra-guest fee for dogs/cats as we do for human guests (we've found that animals usually make bigger messes). Please observe this extra-guest fee while booking. We provide coffee & coffee maker, however we do not provide breakfast. Each tiny house comes with a personal fire pit. Please bring your own wood if you wish to enjoy this experience and take all necessary safety precautions. Fire pit use may be prohibited during windy conditions as advised by property manager. We are currently in the process of getting long-term renters, so sometimes bookings are subject to change. If so, we are almost always able to transfer your reservation to another tiny house at our village.
We are blissfully surrounded by Cleveland National Forest, where you can hop out of bed and start hiking straight away. There is a restaurant on-site, and we are just 1-minute drive from the general store where you can get supplies. Farmhouse is part of a growing Tiny House community that is being converted from an RV trailer park. This presents certain aesthetic challenges. Please excuse us during this transition.
  • Great, cozy place to get away!

  • Jon's tiny house in the Tiny House Block was a fun and unique experience worth checking out if you've ever considered staying in a tiny house. Has everything you need and is close to everything Mount Laguna has to offer. Would recommend this stay

  • Such a great experience in this tiny home! We loved this tiny home community and can’t wait to see what it will become. We are making it a mission to try and stay at each unique tiny home they have there.

  • The location is great with easy access to walking trails nearby. The house was clean and had just enough amenities.

  • Cool spot!

    Chris2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • My sister and I spent a quick night at the tiny house. We enjoyed hiking nearby trails and thought the "tiny house village" had a fun, quirky vibe. The kitchen has the appliances, dishes, and utensils you need if you want to do some bare-bones cooking (microwave, toaster oven, good size fridge, coffee maker), which was a nice surprise. We had a good experience overall. Thanks!

This exposure to nature provides a wonderful inspirational relaxing effect. Japanese call it 'Shinrin-Yoku' which translates to 'forest bathing'. The idea is simple: If a person visits a natural area and walks in a relaxed way, there are calming, rejuvenating and restorative benefits to be achieved. Studies have documented reduced stress, lower blood sugar, better concentration, diminished pain, improved immunity... Taking in the forest atmosphere has become a cornerstone of preventive health care and healing in Japanese medicine. Researchers have established a robust body of scientific literature on health benefits of spending time under the canopy of a living forest. Many trees give off organic compounds that support “NK” (natural killer) cells that are part of our immune system's way of fighting cancer. • We had an excellent time at the treehouse! We loved having the options of the 3 different decks to hang out on & enjoy the views but our favorite was definitely the one right off of the house! The dimmable string lights gave it such a cozy feel. The kitchen is fully stocked so we were easily able to cook some home made meals but also enjoyed visiting the nearby restaurant on the lake. We preferred to sleep in the living room next to the fireplace. Don’t forget to bring firewood!

    Marissa2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • I loved it! The “treehouse” balcony was where my friends and I spent the majority of our time. We had great views of the mountain side as well as the lake. Even though we had neighbors, the home felt secluded and very private because of all of the trees. The spa was the perfect touch also! This is the perfect place for a nice getaway :)

    Bethany2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cabin with an amazing view! Extra clean and all the comforts you’d expect in your own home. The best part? Sitting on the deck at night and listening to the wind rush through the trees while gazing at stars in a crystal clear sky. Yep, we’ll be back.

    Mike 2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great communication, great cabin at Lake Cuyamaca. It was nice having a fire, going in the spa, talking small hikes around. Wish we would've had the snow still, but can't control the weather! Free workout with those steps, phew! My 5 year old daughter LOVED every minute of it. Would highly recommend! Thank you!

    Kevin2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Into the Woods was amazing! Great spot away from the city commotion but still close to the little town of Julian which was very convenient. The hosts left little touches around the house, including chocolates and robes. The jacuzzi was great and the treehouse had a beautiful view of the lake and mountains. Amenities were very nice and thoughtful. House was clean and warm during our whole stay! 10/10 would recommend this stay for a romantic couples getaway or a family vacation!

    Laurin2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This really is a special place! We loved the deck/Overlook and the movie theater area. The views are amazing and we had fun walking up to the upper observation deck. The main bed is a very firm memory foam mattress. If you prefer a slightly softer bed, you may want to opt for the sofa in the living room (a queen and also memory foam). We arrived just after a snowstorm. We did have to buy $170 snow chains for a rental car Notre to legally drive up Highway 79 to the rental. The only place we were nervous about slipping was on the switchbacks coming up to the cabin. If you visit in the winter months you should be aware of the possible need for snow chains. However, the area is beautiful in the snow! We enjoyed our three nights there very much, and our three days exploring the area. We found Julian to be an overcrowded tourist town. We did enjoy the drive and hike to Three Sisters Falls, and Green Valley Falls. Get off the road and get away from the crowds :) We are a family of four.

  • Great place with very nice view. We really enjoyed spending time there.

The Deer Shed is completely off grid, So If your looking for a place to unwind, unplug and get some much needed R&R or if your looking for a special romantic get away this is this perfect spot. Although we are off grid we do have solar for your lighting heating and charging needs. The Shed sits on 20 very private and beautiful acres and is full of local history. Kumeyaay and Cuhuilla Native Americans used to travel through the 20 acres the shed sits on. We also have a little bit of Disney History located on the property! The Main house was built for and occupied by Disney animator Oillie Johnston, who once had a complete train track through the entire property and was the home for his operating steam engine Locomotive "The Marie E". *The property at times may be shared with other guest's either camping or staying in the main house. **Being an off grid Shed we have had to modify a few everyday amenities in order to accommodate our guest. This includes an extremely clean porta potty which may be shared with other guests at times. However the outdoor shower is private and is for the Deer Shed guests only** ***We also ask that you bring your food in an ice chest for your food storage. If you do not have one please let us know before your arrival and we can make one available for you. ****The kitchen space is minimal camping style. We provide place setting for 2 people The Grounds: Arrive and kick your feet up on the deck and listen to an array of birds greet you as you sip on some morning coffee or tea. Then continue to relax or set out for a light stroll to explore the very private surrounding 20 acre that the house is surrounded by, also Please keep in mind that the property at times may also be shared with other guest. At night stargaze on the porch while listening to the soothing music of rustling leaves. History of the Grounds: This city escape was carefully selected to be where Cahuilla and Kumeyaay Native American tribes once roamed. The rocks in the outdoor space have grinding holes (mortars) once used for food preparation by the local tribes. The space is ideal for musicians, creative individuals, and meditations. The tranquil atmosphere makes for a grounding experience allowing ones own creativity to flow to the surface. We encourage you to bring your instruments, meditation practices and any art of your choosing. The space feels as though it was designed perfectly to harness ones own creative ambition. The Railroad: The Cahuilla Crossing Railroad was built in 1967. Walt Disney's animator and former owner of the home, Ollie Johnston had this railroad commissioned. Ollie contributed to films such as Pinnochio, Bambi, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Peter Pan, Robin Hood, and the list goes on. Ollie was a train enthusiast and was gifted by Disney parts of the train track that came directly from Disneyland. Water: All water is natural running ground water and sourced from the on site well. Wildlife: The location is home to wildlife such as deer, wild turkey, blue jay, falcon, hawk, woodpecker, roadrunner, humming birds, and many other friends. Latitude: The grounds are exactly on the 33 degree latitude. We also offer some light breakfast snacks for our guest as well as a variety of teas and coffees for your enjoyment.
The neighbors are awesome. It is a very quiet remote area . We are just a few short miles to Main Street in Julian where you can enjoy some famous Julian pie and do a little shopping. There are many hiking trails to enjoy as well.
  • The Deer Shed was a fun place to stay. It was great opening the entire front window/wall to enjoy the scenery. We came on a very cold and wet day and the Shed kept us comfortable and cozy.

    Raul2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • The space was quiet cozy and perfect for 2 people. The garage door opening was by far the best part of the entire stay as it offers a unique experience for a morning in bed view of the land. The room was in very clean condition and I felt comfortable in it the entire stay. Definitely recommend

    Gabriel2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • You definitely feel like you are getting away from it all. Theres a beautiful view from the shed and got to see some deer and coyotes and could hear Turkeys off in the distance. Exploring the property a plus since my wife went out to the area to hike and explore. Super close to the Main st and the local shops and restaurants. The shed is great and lots of nice extras that they include. Had everything you would need for a long stay. We only stayed one night but would like to go back and stay longer.

    Jorge2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Deer Shed is one of the coziest getaways one could ask for! We arrived after dark in the chilly rain, but the check in instructions made it easy to find the place and make our way inside where it was nice and warm in a matter of minutes with the space heater. The location is ideal, just outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown Julian, and not too far from some amazing hikes. This was the perfect place to rest our tired bodies after a day of outdoor adventuring. The mini kitchen had all the essentials to make a simple pasta dinner and delicious breakfast hash. Watching the morning fog dissipate was amazing to watch from the incredibly comfortable bed. We read a few reviews before that raised concerns about privacy, but it seems that these have been addressed as there were curtains on all the windows. Sparkly clean, cozy beyond belief, and delightfully remote, this is the perfect weekend getaway destination!

    Sarah2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The deer shed was an absolute pleasure to stay at. Amazing star gazing at night, sparkling clean and cozy cabin, super quiet and relaxing area, and convenient to Julian (which has wonderful apple pie). We loved the giant garage-door-like window that opened up the cabin to the outdoors. The porta potty is close by and very well maintained, and the outdoor shower was quite refreshing!

    Donna2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I LOVED staying here. Sitting on the bar stools with the sliding door open was absolutely wonderful! The shed is just a quick drive to either Julian or Wynola! (we personally like Wynola more!) Highly recommend!

    Whitney2020-02-17T00:00:00Z

  • We wanted the kiddos to see snow. We booked with less than 24 hours notice. It was prefect. Short 1 drive. We stopped at Walmart got our dinner and breakfast. We were getting worried cause we didn’t see snow. Bout 15 min from the lodge. It was everywhere. The kids loved it. It was exactly what we needed. Thank you

  • Chris’ place was amazing. The place was spotless, maybe a 2 minute drive from downtown Julian and very private. 10/10 would recommend. I fell in love with it as soon as I walked in. The fireplace alone kept the whole place warm, but a space heater is available if you like it toastier. My fiancé and I will definitely be back.

Welcome to the High Country Hobo Preserve. This hidden gem is nestled in the Cleveland National Forrest. Guest cabin has all amenities: wood burning fireplace, board games, fishing poles, horse shoes, bbq, and gold pans for when the creek is flowing. An outdoor fire pit is available when winds are calm. It has old character, unique charm, and is close to old mining town, Julian. Kitchen has fridge, hot plate, microwave, coffee maker- coffee tea provided. Pets welcome, has dog door, fenced yard.
The High Country Hobo Preserve is located in the small city of Descanso, meaning Rest From Labor. We are about 45 minutes from Downtown San Diego yet a world away. The guest cabin sits on our 1 acre property which has a main cabin, guest cabin, horse corral, and billiard room. The cabin built in 1890 was originally a small one bedroom stone cabin constructed by a woman who bartered with Native American Groups for stones from Mt. Laguna to build her home. Over the years the main cabin, now our bedroom, has been added on to however the structure still maintains its original character. The Guest Cabin stands alone across from our home so you don't need to see us or even interact with us unless you're looking for local tips. The cabin is surrounded by National Forrest to the north and the west to give you privacy. There is plenty of parking on the property. We ask that you limit shower time due to well water restrictions. Our cabin does not have central heat and air as we prefer to keep it outdated for a more authentic feel however during the summer a window A/C can keep you cool and in the winter the wood burning stove heats the whole cabin comfortably. The area has mountain lion, coyote, bobcat, bald eagles, wild turkey, deer, and when warm rattle snakes so please use caution when exploring. You can access trails from our backyard and wonder among the variety of trees, rocks, and it is an excellent location to search for native gems and for star gazing at night.
Descanso is an area that time forgot. The city and surrounding areas are known to many as the Cuyamaca Mountains. Most of the range consists of extensive oak forest and chaparral, part of the California chaparral and woodlands ecoregion, interspersed with pine forests and lush riparian zones, featuring year round creeks and waterfalls when rain is frequent. It is rich in Native American, Spanish, and American history.
  • The place is amazing, perfect place for a weekend get away!!

  • If you are looking for a great escape, that has amazing hospitality, amenities & great outdoor adventures- I would recommend The High Country Hobo Preserve!! Must love a cabin feel and the warmth of a wood stove; we did! ❤️

    Herick Daniel2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely space for a couple needing to get away. Love the fireplace the most. It takes a little while to warm the space if it’s very cold but after a few hours it gets super cozy!! Rebecca was very helpful and generous. We bought our own wood because we knew we would be enjoying the fire for hours but she also gifted us some of her own as she just got a big delivery. We hiked around the creek out back of the property and had a lovely time. Love Pam’s place on the corner for produce and yummy snacks. Julian is not too far away either. Can’t wait for this type of life all the time 😁

    Jennie2020-01-26T00:00:00Z

  • This place has everything you would want in an Airbnb— complete privacy, hot tub, fully stocked kitchen, and walking distance to town. We had a wonderful time exploring the nearby state parks in the day and coming home for a soak and a homemade dinner at night. One thing I will note is that the mattress is VERY soft. All around, a wonderful Airbnb.

  • Cozy log cabin with great modern amenities! Everything is labeled which is so helpful, no fumbling with switches trying to figure things out. Nice private location yet walking distance to shops and restaurants. The fireplace does a great job keeping the place warm and cozy, the bed is super comfy, and the hot tub was so relaxing. The included binder has a great guide to all the local places, and self-checkin was simple. Overall a great experience!

The perfect change of scenery during these stressful times! Our home is secluded and makes for a great getaway for those wanting a break from more populated areas, or those who just need a change of pace. While our home is located in the back-country of San Diego, we have great internet for guests needing to continue work during this time. We are taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of our guests by sanitizing thoroughly after each guest and leaving time in between reservations.
This home is equipped with Alexa. You can ask her to turn up the heater, change the channel on TV or play your favorite genre of music. The cabin is cleaned and maintained professionally. Your comfort is our first priority. If needed, there is a detached laundry room with a large-capacity washer and dryer. The grounds are maintained monthly. Snow plowing is available with 24 hr notice.

  • This was the perfect peaceful getaway spot! Deerwalk Retreat is the best balance between being immaculately clean with the latest technology and still feeling super cozy and comfortable. It looks like it was just remodeled. The host has thought of everything from firewood to coffee creamer to toothpaste to wooden skewers to roast our marshmallows over the outdoor firepit! The yard was so much fun for our young kids to explore! We even woke up to a beautiful Deer grazing within 15 feet of the bedroom window! The host Sean responded immediately when we had a question and everything we needed was right there.

All around a great place to stay for a visit to Julian or any surrounding areas.

  • Fantastic getaway. Everything you need is there and, of course, Julian is right around the corner. Though the cabin is older, it is very clean and cozy and Shirley is responsive and kind. This is my #1 place to stay in eastern San Diego County.

My place is located in the historic town of Julian, California, close to apple pie, wine tasting, craft beer and gold mine tours. T's is just 2 miles east of town, in the quiet neighborhood of Whispering Pines. Built in 1928, it is a cozy, rustic mountain cabin perfect for relaxing and watching the wildlife including deer, wild turkeys and a wide variety of birds. With personal touches that make it feel like you are staying at a friend's place, it's perfect for couples and solo adventurers.
This cabin was built in 1928 as a YMCA meeting hall, and was originally just 1 room with an outhouse! The beautiful wood floors and windows are original and add a rustic feel to this comfortable space. *Bedroom: is actually an alcove, there is no door (that's the next project). It has a comfy queen size bed and small closet. *Kitchen: is fully stocked with pantry items, snacks and bevies. I do my best to keep juice, yogurts and fruit available for your breakfast. There is a fridge, stove/oven, coffee maker and microwave. *Bathroom: recently remodeled with river rock flooring, hammered copper sink, rustic barn stall shower and Minnesota barn wood vanity. Plenty of towels and toiletries are provided for you. *Dining area: with seating for 4 at an antique ice cream parlor table handed down from my Auntie Edna. *Fireplace: freestanding, very romantic! (Duraflame type logs only) And, T's Place is pet friendly! Fur babies love the cabin but it is important to note that they may not be left alone at, or inside, the cabin. Even in their crate. This cabin is best situated for 2 adults. However, exceptions are made, and a child size cot or pack and play are available upon request. Feel free to contact me before booking. Nightly rates and minimum stays may be increased on Holiday Weekends and discounts are offered to repeat guests. Be sure to contact me with any special requests or questions before booking. I'm looking forward to sharing my Happy Place with you! T.
Whispering Pines is a quiet, family neighborhood that is great for long walks and bird and wildlife watching. Sit on the deck and listen to the breeze in the pines and you'll see how the neighborhood got its name. It is a special area, I grew up in the house next door!
  • We had a great weekend at T’s place. The cabin is very cozy and has many details to make you feel at home. Close to Julian and the local activities. Great place for relaxing!

  • Great place and Teresa has everything you could ever need for a quiet weekend getaway!

    Kevin2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • It was Cozy and contained interesting Antiques. It was quiet cold when we arrived and I would recommend using the fireplace as your main source of heat. We went through 10 logs for 2 nights. The bathroom is awesome in terms of aesthetics but keep in mind it is country so hot water can be temperamental. The driveway can also be seen as a maneuver. However we found it lovely.

    Sophia2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, private and everything you need for a getting away weekend or romantic get away also very relaxing, and if you forget something she will mail it to you. I forgot my nice watch and she will mail it to me. Hope you enjoyed it like we did.

  • It’s a cute rustic hideaway. I perfect hideout for a couple to get away from it all and reset with one another. If you are a bird lover, you will be amazed at the feeders and all the various birds that come to visit. Teresa is amazing! She’ll do all she can to make your stay wonderful!

The cabin is gorgeous, the kitchen stocked with everything you might need, the linens and towels are beautiful, and then there is that amazing view! The layout of the cabin allows for unobstructed views wherever you are, and the deck is big and just perfect for relaxing and watching the boats on the lake. We saw deer early in the morning, hiked around the lake and cooked a big dinner and ate on the deck....it felt like we were a million miles away but we were home in an hour! I cannot recommend Matt's beautiful cabin enough....we will be back!!!

    Christine2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! The lake and mountain views from EVERY room are spectacular. A very unique property at a reasonable price. Everything was great and Matt was a fantastic host. The bed was very comfortable. I can't wait to come back.

    Sarah2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first experience in an AirBNB and it was much better than we all imagined! We were given detailed instructions on how to get to the location and it was more helpful than we’d imagine so I’m really thankful for that! Matt was helpful but not overbearing and left us alone to enjoy our trip but made sure that we could reach out to him if we needed anything. The cabin offers amenities that I wouldn’t have expected, such as a crock pot, washer/dryer, so if you were staying for a long time or with a large group a people this would be great to put to use! Overall, the stay was great, the view is amazing, and I would love to stay here again the next time we come to Julian.

Pine House is a 1 bedroom/1 bathroom suite that is part of a larger building with 2 other cabins. They share the same roof and some walls, but provide private use for each of my guests. The larger structure was built in the 40's but this suite was just reinvented and now has many of today's "necessities" such as great WiFi, USB charging port, Netflix, TV and DVD. The kitchenette has all new appliances. Outside Pine House you can enjoy the beautiful 4 acre property full of trees and plants. Our 5 acre property is located one mile east of Historic Julian California in San Diego's east county mountains. • This little place was charming and simple. Cozy and warm. Renee was an amazing host. Her little pup, Feather was cute too! My kids loved the tree swings. So close to town!

  • We stayed in the Pine House. Cozy and clean space with all amenities you need. Has like a galley kitchen area and you then use the one of the bathroom sinks as kitchen sink use (wash dishes etc). There were BBQ's onsite. The queen bed was memory mattress and super comfortable. We met Rene and she was super friendly and helpful. Everything went GREAT! Thank you! I'm sure we will be back again soon.

We are conveniently located within walking distance of Julian. Cabin is smaller but cozy. Although town is close, it is very private and peaceful on the property. The property is fenced. We are in a very quiet neighborhood. Strict quiet hours & outside recreational hours enforced. We have lived in Julian our whole lives so we can help you find almost anything you need or could want in our area. We look forward to helping you have a wonderful visit to our neck of the woods~ No pets allowed.
Our cabin is close to Julian yet very quiet. We ask that you respect our neighbors with keeping the noise to a minimum and staying within our property boundaries. Unfortunately we do not offer any cooking facilities. There is a small microwave, apartment size refrigerator, coffee pot & a toaster. The upstairs loft is tight but comfortable. There are two twin beds with a night stand & lamp. The steps up to the loft are very steep and open. If you have children they must be carefully supervised and really need one adult upstairs with them especially for sleeping. The bathroom has a shower only, no tub. Again, small area but user friendly. The downstairs bedroom has a queen size bed & nightstand. The front room has two chairs, sofa type love seat & TV. The heating is propane fireplace. The driveway is steep and looks a bit intimidating at first but really isn't bad. We have two different entrances depending upon weather conditions & personal needs. Our driveway can get a bit tricky in the snow and extreme rains. We gladly can pick you up at a safe location in town (sheriff's substation parking lot) load your items & you into our 4 wheel drive and take you to and from the cabin if needed. We are happy to help accommodate your needs the best that we can. We want you to have the best experience possible at our little cabin and in the town of Julian. It is always good to ask us questions before you book....just in case it isn't what you are looking for....or won't fit your needs. We love Julian and are happy to help recommend other Air BnB hosts if ours doesn't fit. We are a close community so we try hard to look out for one another and also for our guests to enjoy the best stay they possibly can have! NO PETS ALLOWED. Strict Evening Hour Rules
We do have neighbors but far enough apart that it is very private and quiet. Yet, we are close enough that we do have noise restrictions.
  • I was visiting Julian to run a marathon. The race ended up getting canceled but I can’t think of a better experience. Stacy’s cabin is clean, comfortable, and cozy. When you check-in get ready to take a load off. The cabin is stocked with snacks and goodies. While the cabin itself is magnificent, the service and friendliness of Stacy is also best in class. Before leaving, Stacy prepared herbal tea and even left a celebratory gift bag before unofficially running the race!!! If this place is ever available book it ASAP. You can thank me, well rather, thank Stacy later.

  • Cute little cabin, private and quiet. Good value and really helpful host.

    Holley2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Stacy’s log cabin is a MUST stay in Julian. It is an amazing location (within walking distance to downtown), while also giving you a sense of privacy and some amazing views of the valley/mountains. The cabin itself was perfect for my fiancé and I. It was a great size, extremely clean, decor was great, and it had an authentic mountain feel to it. Stacy added some wonderful personal touches as well which was really nice! Ruby (their horse) was also a fun addition to the weekend. Can’t recommend this place enough!!

    Bret2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute cabin tucked in the woods, yet very close to town. The cabin was clean, cute and private and there were lots of extra special touches. Stacy was very nice and accommodating and easy to contact! We loved the outdoor fire pit, the stargazing, the peace and quiet and Ruby the horse!

  • Great, cozy cabin and very close to the main street! Stacy was a great host and very responsive. Would definitely recommend

    Mona2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was very clean and Stacy was nice enough to leave a fridge stocked with snacks for us. The amenities that the cabin had also made for a relaxing weekend. We spent mornings and evenings by the firepit outside enjoying the view. We had a lot of fun petting Ruby, the horse. Overall it’s a great little place for an affordable price!

*STAY 2 Nights, Get 1 Night FREE* (Only 1 of 3 nights can be a Friday OR Saturday, see below). Get mountain high in this fun marijuana-themed tiny house. We named it "The 420 House" for its weed decor. Loft with queen bed, living room, kitchen, and full bathroom. Let's be blunt, you don't need to be a cannabis connoisseur to enjoy this place, but your 420 buds will find this house has everything the chronic traveller needs for a smoking good time as you puff puff pass through Mt Laguna.
*STAY 2 Nights, Get 1 Night FREE* (Only 1 of 3 nights can be a Friday OR Saturday. Book your 2 nights for anytime between Sunday-Friday or Saturday-Thursday. Then message us what additional day you'd like to add for FREE! It just cannot be a Friday or Saturday.) You'll love our towering pine trees, fresh air, lush greenery, on-site restaurant, and easy access to hiking including Pacific Crest Trail. The home is inside the village Tiny House Block. The house is pet-friendly, however please observe that we charge the same extra-guest fee for dogs/cats as we do for human guests (we've found that animals usually make bigger messes). Please observe this extra-guest fee while booking, example: if it's 2 adults and 1 dog, the total would be 3 guests. We are currently in the process of getting long-term renters, booked house is subject to change.
We are blissfully surrounded by Cleveland National Forest, where you can hop out of bed and start hiking straight away. There is a restaurant on-site, and we are just 1-minute drive from the general store where you can get supplies. The Greenhouse is part of a growing tiny house community called Tiny House Block that is being converted from an RV trailer park. This presents certain aesthetic challenges. Please excuse us during this transition.

  • Loved this place so much!!!

    Suzi2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • 420 House/#13 was awesome! Plenty of space for two. The "fireplace" didn't seem like it put out heat but it was enough that we didn't have to bundle up with extra blankets at night. The place was clean and had hot water. Full size bath tub was unexpected but appreciated. Desert View trail was in walking distance and it was great to just step out and start hiking. Pine House Cafe is in front of the complex and satisfied our hungry but food was kind of pricey for what we got. This was our first Airbnb experience and tiny house as well. We will come back! Thank you Seo and crew

    Lyn2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This tiny 420 home is awesome! Seo was a great host, neighbors were nice, the cafe was super close and even has live music! Definitely a nice weekend get away!

  • We really enjoyed our stay in the 420 tiny home. It was just the right size for the two of us. I was pleasantly surprised that the bathroom was rather spacious. We will return.

  • Nice cozy cabin, in grest location close to town. Perfect for 2 people that want to get away from the city.

  • Nice property!

    Steve2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy cabin really close to town. Very quite, lots of deck space to stargaze, or just chill out (extra blankets are available which was a nice touch). The stairs going upstairs are pretty narrow and steep, just a heads up, especially if using them at night. Can't go wrong with a fireplace / stove

    Tomer2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and very cute. Loved the deck. Great tips for places to eat/visit. We had a wonderful time. Check in/out was a breeze. We got a kick out of the wild turkeys all over the place.

    Natalie2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Nice getaway cabin ! Cozy yet spacious little loft perfect for a couple. Patio is amazing for relaxing, just be aware it’s very cold during winter. Plenty of wild turkeys to gaze at! And although neighbors are somewhat close to the location, they leave you alone. Drive is tedious but not impossible, but be aware the drive way is a bit steep. If you’re not a morning person and a light sleep, I recommend a sleeping mask if brightness is a problem to you. The loft has nice big windows for a great view, but they let a great amount of sunshine in! Which is a + for some but not quite for others. Overall the stay is amazing, the host is reserved, and everything was very clean and tidy. Would recommend to a first time Julian explorer.

    Jesus2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy cabin makes for a perfect getaway. Julian is only a short drive (or 30 min walk) away. The Nickel brewery is even closer :) If you‘re lucky, a flock of wild turkeys will visit the backyard.

    Roman2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara's place is clean & comfy. It's location to town is perfect. Would not recommend for small children or those with physical disabilities, as the staircase to the bedroom is quite narrow & steep. Fully equipped kitchen & the wood stove warms the cabin nicely. Do bring your own firewood, as it is not provided.

Welcome to Mimi's little farm! Detached ensuite cozy room with a Queen bed. Private bathroom.Private entrance with key. Private patio with picnic table. Access to private hiking trail with impressive desert views. Enjoy nature & fresh air away from the noisy city!
We do not have kitchen facilities but we do have a fridge in your room if you want to keep your food/drinks cold. There is also a toaster, electric kettle and a French Press to make coffee. There is coffee/tea/drinking water in the room for your use. Unfortunately, campfires or not permitted due to the high fire danger of the area. Please be aware that if you are very tall/large you may find the shower small. The toilet is a composting toilet. It is electric & has a vent that goes through the roof & there is where the smell will go to. If you want to know more about the toilet & make sure you will be comfortable using it, please look it up online before you book. There is no flushing. It kind of gives you the feel of a pit toilet if you know what i mean.... but without the flies or the smell! There are a bunch of videos on youtube. Just type "Envirolet composting toilet" and familiarize with it to make sure you'll be ok using a composting toilet. And another important thing to be aware of. We have att... and we are at the end of the line. That means it is pretty slow...
You won't see or hear any neighbors from our property , that is why we fell in love with it! Our property is 40 acres and we back to the BLM so you feel like you are all alone, but town is just 2 miles away . You can walk around our quiet neighborhood although there are nothing else than houses & the mountain To get to our place you will drive through our neighbors houses & some of them have kids that sometimes play on the street so, please, respect them by not driving too fast & not exceed the residential speed limit. Thank you.
  • Mimi's farm is a great place to stay if you want to get to know Julian longer than just the average afternoon trip. The hosts were helpful by pointing us to a great place in town to eat (Julian Beer Co) and by writing very detailed directions on finding their place. If you plan on staying here, you will definitely enjoy the great views and the feeling of being close to nature. Overall a great stay. Thanks for having us.

  • We had a great time at Mimi‘s place. The location is great and there was everything we needed. It‘s a super tiny house, but well equipped. The only thing is that it got really cold at night. The bedroom has a very small heater, but the bathroom/shower was still pretty cold. But defintetely recommend it!

    Zarah2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The night view is amazing! There are many great places to hike near by, even one right behind Mimi's place. And expect to receive a morning greet from a herd of curious goats!

  • Super cozy and fun place to stay. I loved it :)

    Anika2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place is an absolute gem! The farm is beautiful and the goats are a lot of fun to meet. Mimi gave us lots of advice on local spots to try. Definitely made the trip to Julian special. I would make the trip just to visit and stay at her farm again. I'll be telling all of my friends about this place!

    Kyle2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Mimi's's. The bed was comfortable and the space was clean. The shower worked great. I love the herd of goats. And the outdoor cat was very sociable. Enjoyed the fun little hike up the hill on the trail. It was a very hot time and the inside of the space gets pretty hot during the day. But it cools down perfectly at night with the windows open and the above the bed fan on. Mimi was very helpful with suggestions. We only got to see them briefly but they are very nice.

The house is pet-friendly, however please observe that we charge the same extra-guest fee for pets as we do for human guests (we've found that animals usually make bigger messes). Please observe this extra-guest fee while booking. We provide coffee & coffee maker, however we do not provide breakfast. Each tiny house comes with a personal fire pit. You may purchase wood from our staff or bring your own. Fire pit use may be prohibited during windy conditions as advised by property manager. We are currently in the process of getting long-term renters, booked house is subject to change.
A true gem in east San Diego, right along the Pacific Crest Trail, Mount Laguna boasts stunning views and trails. Our community of tiny houses is one the great highlights of Mount Laguna, which also has the cozy restaurant Pine House Cafe & Tavern.

  • Awesome space, communicative hosts, great amenities, super cute tiny house.

  • Great little place in Mount Laguna. Highly recommend also bringing your own food as places to eat are not conveniently located. Otherwise, downstairs gets very cold at night. but upstairs is super cozy in the winter. Our 3 year old loved the experience! Thank you!

  • This was a nice and cozy place to stay at! Although the rainy weather dampened our hiking plans, there was plenty to do inside the tiny house for a warm night in.

    Mary2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • SO CLEAN! SO CUTE! SO RETRO! Everything we needed for a little getaway in Laguna. Great location! Quiet and nice. Hikes and restaurants nearby. Only con: The minimal ceiling space can be a tad bit annoying but we weren’t in the home too long so it didn’t bother us too much. You must be able to climb stairs! Don’t recommend for people with bad back, neck, or knee problems-but other than that this place is a HIDDEN GEM!! Happy we were able to be accommodated with such short notice! The hosts is quick to respond and friendly.

  • Fantastic place! Its only 10 mins away from any tourist attractions, and down the street from Julian pie. Only problem is the smoke alarm that goes off from steam in the shower since its right above the door on the outside. Other than that it's very cozy.

    Manuel2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived after dark and Cindy has the heater turned on for us. Great place to stay for short getaway and stargazing location!

Welcome to my Petite Cabin located in the Pine Hills neighborhood of Julian. Surrounded by trees and nature it's the perfect place to get away from it all! If you're lucky you will see deer, wild turkeys, rare grey mountain squirrels, and numerous bird species - in fact it's a birdwatcher's paradise! It's centrally located - just a short drive to downtown Julian, Wynola, Santa Ysabel and William Heise Park. Whether you want to hike, eat pie, or simply relax, this is the place!
When I first saw this cottage, it immediately reminded me of the small homes I visited in France - a Petite Maison. Built in 1958, the cottage has lofty high beamed ceilings in the living room and bedroom. It's a small space with a nice open feel. It has a bit of a Scandinavian inspired vibe: all white with a rustic, industrial sense of style. A wood burning stove awaits your fire burning skills. In the summer there is A/C to cool you off after you've hiked the many trails the backcountry has to offer. A small 2 person hot tub is also available for your use. Two small fountains and several bird feeders attract a great array of birds. If you sit quietly, you will see them. There is also a nice variety of trees: oaks, pines, an apple tree and lilacs that bloom in the spring. The cottage sleeps a maximum of 3 people. There is one queen size bed, a pull out sofa in the living room and a couple of boho cushions that could sleep a small person or child. There is just one bathroom with a small shower. There is no bathtub. I have recently remodeled the small studio adjacent to the cabin. This is a small yoga/exercise/meditation room for your use. There are yoga mats, free weights, a kettle bell, bosu ball and a barre, etc... I have now added a TV (netflix and amazon ready or bring your fav DVD but THERE IS NO CABLE TV) and another pull out couch for guests. There is heat and a/c in this new unit. I think you'll like this new addition!
Pine Hills is an amazing community of Julian. It has a great reputation for lovely homes and wonderful neighbors. Pine Hills is very centrally located - close enough to downtown Julian, but away from the hustle and bustle and touristy aspects of town.
  • An absolute gem! We were in Julian to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday, and Laurel’s cabin was absolutely divine! She has thought of everything and we felt like we truly were off the grid! Listening to records, sitting by the fire, listening to raindrops on the roof... listening to birds and squirrels... looking at the stars, drinking wine, while luxuriating in the hot tub. Seriously, the weekend was perfection!!! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts... we will definitely be back!

    Chris2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Laurel’s little cabin was totally amazing! We wanted it for a relaxing family getaway weekend and it delivered! We loved building fires, listening to music on the record player, and using the hot tub under the stars! In addition to the cute feral cats, we saw tons of different birds, “talkative” squirrels, deer, and wild turkeys. We loved it! I especially loved the mini yoga/workout studio in the garage - so adorable and amazing! I loved Laurel’s sense of design too, the place could not have been any cuter. We appreciated the guest robes and all the different local food and hiking suggestions. We can’t wait to come back!

    Laura Lee2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A small cozy place nestled in the woods. Laurel has done an outstanding job decorating and making her place incredible for people who want to get away. Everything is thought of right down to the smallest details. The fireplace and hot tub make this place a gem. Incredible to go out for a nice walk and see deer, cats, and turkeys roaming free. Easy short drive to downtown Julian. Can't lose staying here.

    Aaron2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • This place is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city life. It is so beautiful and cozy. Laurel really put allot of thought into it with all the little touches all over the house and property. The pictures don't do it justice. It was definitely an amazing experience and we definitely would love to go back there in the near future. Thank you Laurel for making our 21st anniversary truly special.

    June2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Laurel’s Petite Cabin in the woods was everything we could have wanted. Cozy, comfortable, exceptionally clean, stylish space. We throughly enjoying the outdoor hot tub, and the fire place. It was easy to find and quiet. The bed was slightly soft for our personal taste, having said that we just prefer a firm mattress. Otherwise we were very comfortable and would definitely stay again. Thank you Laurel!!

    Katharine2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed a very relaxed and rejuvenating stay here. We loved feeding the cats, warming by the fire, and listening to records!

    Michael2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute cabin! My husband and I loved the alone time! If you want to get out of the routine and enjoy the outdoors this is perfect! The cabin has everything you need and super clean! And plus Laurel is great she has recommendations for everything.

    Paola2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great, quiet getaway with nice thoughtful touches. Whether it’s the yoga studio, the hot tub under the stars or listening to records by the fire. Recommend for a relaxing time.

My father purchased these 8 acres in the early 1960's from award winning author Scott O'Dell who wrote Island of the Blue Dolphins, and my father built our cabin. Our family, Dad, Mom, Johnny, and me, planted nearly all of the trees you see on our hilltop. We have many happy memories here and we want you to create some of your own! We call our hilltop "Flat Top" because it is identified on geodetic survey maps. ( See photo of geodetic map and "Flat Top" marker that sits on top of our hill in my photo gallery.) We are located 1.6 mile from historic town of Julian, 1/2 mile from Menghini and Volcan Mountain Wineries, an easy walk, and about a mile from Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve, for hiking!
  • My family and I stayed at Mary’s cabin for a weekend getaway to take in the fresh air, catch some fish, and eat lots of pie. We were so impressed with how clean and organized the cabin was and really appreciated the notebook where she left instructions on where to find things in the cabin. The notebook also included lots of information on things to do in Julian and in the surrounding areas. The entire cabin was clean, and the beds were comfortable - especially the pillows! The outside patio decks were great for watching the sunset and taking in the fresh air. The kitchen had everything we needed and were happy to see a toaster oven was available to use. Our favorite part about the cabin was the huge windows that allow for panoramic views of the many pine tress she has on her property. My family and I will definitely consider staying at Mary’s place again if it is available on our next trip to Julian.

    Nicolette2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Mary is such a sweetheart and made renting this cabin more than easy and enjoyable! Mary and John are wonderful people with a gorgeous, more than welcoming vacation home. I would absolutely rent this cabin again!

  • The house on Flat Top Mountain was a great place for our girls get away weekend. Mary is a terrific host and had the house ready and welcoming for our arrival. The views from the house are beautiful and the beds are comfy. The house was clean and the kitchen well stocked for our use. There is no WiFi but it was not missed. We got good cell signals and Mary provides a good selection of books and DVDs if you feel the need. We enjoyed relaxing so much that we didn’t even use the TV. An added bonus is that the town of Julian and the Julian Pie Company with its delicious pies and apple cider donuts is just a short drive or a good walk away. We had a terrific time at Mary’s house on Flat Top Mountain.

    Lori2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place is beautiful and so close to town while still being private and surrounded by beautiful trees. One bathroom which may be tricky if you plan to have a lot of people staying there, but it worked fine for us.

  • Mary’s Flat Top cabin was nothing short of amazing. The cabin was spacious and well appointed.... and the views! Wow! We stayed here for Thanksgiving, during a winter snow storm, and we were cozy and warm inside the cabin. The kitchen had all the basics needed to complete our meal. Plenty of games, puzzles and dvds to keep us occupied. Once the snow stopped we had the chance to hike around the property. Mary’s communication was excellent throughout our entire stay and her hospitality/thoughtfulness went above and beyond our expectations. Mary, thanks so much for sharing your cabin with us! We can’t wait to return when the weather warms up!

    Jennifer2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second visit to Mary’s cabin in Julian and it just gets better every time. You cannot beat the views, especially the sunset. We attended a wedding at Sacred Mountain and this home is only a few miles away, perfect place to stay! We went into town early to get pizza and pie and enjoyed our leftovers throughout the weekend. We saw deer and wild turkeys too. This has now become a yearly visit and we can’t wait to return next year! Thank you! Linnea

*STAY 2 Nights, Get 1 Night FREE* (Only 1 of 3 nights can be a Friday OR Saturday, see below) Enjoy this wood tiny house in the stunning relaxing mountains of Mount Laguna, less than one hour from San Diego beaches. We named this house "Sedona Spirit" for its decor and vibe. This house is part of a tiny house village called Tiny House Block.

While authentic to the tiny house experience, please consider this while booking, especially if you are prone to feeling claustrophobic. The house is pet-friendly, however please observe that we charge the same extra-guest fee for dogs/cats as we do for human guests (we've found that animals usually make bigger messes). • We loved our stay! Very small population in the middle of the mountains, but a great way to explore something different. We stayed during the winter offseason, so it was very quiet with only a few visitors in the pine cafe and no live music. The hiking was beautiful with walkable and drivable trail options all over.

    Alyssa2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • The Sedona house was cozy and cute. For those staying during the winter months expect no water in the morning. They had a problem with freezing pipes. It was something we expected. The community was great. It was quiet and beautiful

The house is located just two miles outside of Julian. The house is on a hillside which has an amazing view. You can see the edge of Julian, all the way into Anza Borrego and on clear days the Salton Sea is visible from the deck. The patio is a great place to sit, sip your locally acquired adult beverage of choice and enjoy the view. Come enjoy Julian, grab a slice of apple pie and sit back and enjoy the slower side of life.
The space available for rent is attached to the main house. This space is the downstairs to the main house but is completely self contained. You'll have your own private entrance, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room and a private patio that has an amazing view. The morning sunrise is something worth setting your alarm clocks for, even if it is the weekend. Though the view is facing east the sunset is worth sticking around for too. The desert view becomes alive with colors skating across the sky. We recently remodeled the entire space top to bottom. We are proud of the finished product and we ask you to keep it looking as good as it did when you arrived outside of the normal cleaning. The interior is mostly all white, with lots of nature light that comes in through the windows and sliding glass doors. The space is decorated with a mix of modern and bohemian. We made an effort to bring some of nature inside in the form of real plants so it can be enjoyed comfortably from within. The place is clean and quiet, a great place to get away and relax. Getting there: We are just over two miles from the heart of Julian. The last half mile is a gravel road and depending on how much rain and snow we have recently had can be a little bumpy . If there is snow in the forecast chains are required to get in and out of the property. Once you are here: There is parking for two cars. Parking is on the side of the garage in the flat gravel area. There are two paths you can take to get the entrance. One is follow the lit gravel path on the backside of the garage to the sidewalk along the side of the house. Two is to walk between the garage and the main house in the breeze way, through the storm door and down the stairs to the sidewalk along the side of the house. Once you're on the sidewalk walk till you hit the private patio and the entrance is through the sliding glass doors (key in lock box) via the patio. Inside the space: Living room: Walk in through the sliding glass door into the living room area. There you find a couch smart TV (there is also a google chromecast attached to stream from your device). There is no antenna, Satellite or cable at the house everything is streamed via wifi. Kitchen: The kitchen is attached to the living room area. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you'll need for cooking. There is a countertop oven, cooktop, mini fridge, coffee maker, stainless steel sink, pots and pan, dinnerware and utensils. Salt and pepper, olive oil and coffee will be supplied. Bedroom: The bedroom has an oversized closet with shelves that is available for use. A queen sized bed sit in the middle of the room with night stands at either side. A modern chair sit in the corner of the room. Bathroom: Walking into the bathroom there is a vanity with a mirror over the sink. There is a shower, tub combo which will be stocked with shampoo, conditioner and soap. Clean towels will be in the bathroom either hung up or on the shelf. Towels and sheets are washed and disinfected with Clorox after each guest. Patio: You'll have your own private patio to be able to sit out on and enjoy the view. With very few neighbors around you'll have a almost 100% unobstructed view. FYI: You have your own central heat, A/C unit the thermostat located on the wall. We ask that you be conservative with your usage of heat and A/C by not leaving doors or windows open while either of these are running and lowering their usage while you're out. There is no smoking or parties on the premises. Over night stays are limited to the two people on the reservation. We ask if you have guests that stop by for a visit please give us a notice prior to their arrival. All guest must be at least 24 years in age. No kids or pets are allowed. This space has had a complete remodel and we ask that you respect the home and environment, leaving it how you found it. Verizon and At&t have good cell coverage here but other carriers can be spotty in their coverage but a work around for this is connecting to the wifi. Weather: The weather here can change drastically from day to night. Come prepared for all weather variations including high winds. The main house: There are two adults and a baby that live in the main house. More than likely won't see or hear you unless we cross paths getting in or out of our vehicles or our assistance is needed. We keep the house quiet and there is sound proofing between the two floors.
Come to Julian grab a slice of apple pie. Go for a hike to work it off and in the evening check out the wineries, breweries.
  • Really beautifully designed and appointed. Fantastic views, easy access, great communication.

ALL MY CABINS GET STERILIZED BETWEEN GUESTS. MY CLEANING FEES ARE HIGHER FOR YOUR PROTECTION 1 BE/ 1 BA/5 adults. Shares walls. recommended for guests who don't mind noise transfer. KITCHEN: all eating and cooking utensils, microwave, hot plate, toaster, french press, kettle, TINY fridge, BBQ. (sink in bathroom) coffee, tea, milk, oatmeal, pastries. DVD & Netflix ONLY. Games avail. NOTE: Thu & Sun are blocked by me to ensure we have ample time for deep cleaning
The Suite is the original cabin built in the 30's. It is about 500 sqft with a living room/dining room/kitchenette, a bedroom and a newly remodeled gorgeous bathroom. The cabin has windows throughout that provide beautiful views of the trees and the mountains. The view of the mountains from the bedroom is my favorite view on the property and you can enjoy it from bed! ******************************* Note: while this cabin is totally separated from the main house, it does share walls and there is an attic in use above the suite. Some noise will travel. I highly recommend the suite for families and friends who would not be bothered by some noise transfer. ******************************* Our Big Pine cabin is nearby and was built around the same time. The Little Pine cabin was probably built in the 40's and is on the opposite side of the main house and not as close. (you can't see it from the suite.) Some time in the 60's the part of the main cabin/house that we refer to as the main house or Pine House was added on to the original cabin so they are adjoining but have completely separate entrances and decks. Whispering Pines Retreat has Rustic Historic Cabins for rent year-round. Our 4 acre property is located one mile east of Historic Julian California in San Diego's east county mountains. The cabins were built in the 1930's and have many of the original features and furnishings. We are surrounded by trees and have lovely views of the Volcan Mountain Range. Hiking, biking, fishing in the mountains and desert. Come enjoy the peace and natural beauty of the mountains, trees, gardens, birds, fresh air, stars... Each cabin is fully outfitted with everything you'll need for a relaxing get-away. Little Pine & Big Pine have a fully equipped kitchens and Pine Suite and Pine House have a kitchenette. All the cabins have a modern bathroom, all linens, porch with a barbecue, view of the mountains. And we are kid-friendly! Explore Julian (1 mile from the cabin), a historic gold mining town from the gold rush, now a quaint mountain village famous for apple pies, wine, and hiking trails. We have old time seasonal festivals and decorations that make our town even more sweet for your vacation or get-away. See wild turkey, deer, quail, bobcats, coyote, owls, hawks and much more.
We are located 1 mile from Main street Julian in the Whispering Pines neighborhood. The property is 3.5 acres with 4 cabins. There are neighbors and houses and cars on the road below the property so you will hear and see others. But the trees, mountain views, the stars and the wildlife (turkey, deer...) as well as the beautiful cabins make this location really special.
  • A great place to go, clean and close to the town also 👌 Definitely will be back again 👍

  • Excellent location outside from Julian’s downtown crowd. Very clean and cozy, Ilana’s place is a nice retreat for a small family. You just want to acknowledge that you can do only basic cooking with the small hot plate available in the kitchenette. We enjoyed a lot the place and our week end. Thank you Ilana !

  • Such a peaceful and relaxing weekend at Ilana's cabin! Absolutely recommended

  • Ilana was great. She answer really fast, allow us to check in before 3pm and stay more time the last day. The place has a beautiful view, peace and calm. It has everything to enjoy: table outside to enjoy the landscape, fire pit, etc. One of the afternoon we saw a deer in front of the house :-) You fell that you are in Julian, not in a generic place. We really enjoyed our weekend there. and only 5 min driving to the town.

Then message us what additional day you'd like to add for FREE! It just cannot be a Friday or Saturday.) You'll love our towering pine trees, unique village setting, fresh air, lush greenery, on-site restaurant, and easy access to hiking including Pacific Crest Trail. The house is pet-friendly, however please observe that we charge the same extra-guest fee for pets as we do for human guests (we've found that animals usually make bigger messes). Please observe this extra-guest fee while booking. We provide coffee & coffee maker, and tea, however we do not provide breakfast. Each tiny house comes with a personal fire pit. Please bring your own wood if you wish to enjoy this experience and take all necessary safety precautions. Fire pit use may be prohibited during windy conditions as advised by property manager.
Woodlands is part of a growing tiny house community called Tiny House Block that is being converted from an RV trailer park. This presents certain aesthetic challenges. Please excuse us during this transition.
  • These little homes are super cute and make for an amazing opportunity for folks looking for a weekend trip from San Diego. It was so cozy and cute. We were up in the snow within 45 minutes from home. John and his team were super accommodating! It was a super unique and fun experience. We went for a beautiful hike during the day. Can't wait to return!

  • The heater didn’t work. But they were more than willing to go out of their way to get us a heater. Water pipes frozen due to snow, views are beautiful, close to hiking areas. The mountains are always a great idea and this place was a perfect fit to our adventure plans. Quick responses. The privacy and self check in was great as well. Husband & I will definitely stay again in the future! 5/5 stars..

  • Totally recommend! Great location and amazing tiny home. Be prepared if you are going in the winter :) with extra blankets. We stayed in the snow and loved it. The staff on the property were extremely nice. Remember it is glamping and totally worth it.

  • Great space! We were a little worried about pipes freezing and/or not being warm enough, so we lowered our expectations before arrival. Yet we were so impressed with this large tiny home and the care that was shown to us. It was cold, snow expected for our duration. I asked Seo for an additional heater and he brought it over immediately. The electric fireplace made staying inside (playing games, reading, cooking, sipping coffee) just perfect! The Tiny House Block is also near the PCT and we jumped on the trail for a 10mile run in the snow. So fun! Even better to have a warm shower afterwards! On our way out, we needed to install tire chains and Seo was right there helping us, again. What a great neighborhood and community. Thank you!
