Bars and nightlife in Johannesburg

Bar
“A rock'n roll bar and party venue, can get very rowdy but also a lot of fun. Try their speciality, cinnamon whisky shooter, a Hellfire.”

“On the weekends the space is transformed into a sunset drinks venue. During the week it’s a restaurant. Plants are everywhere & you would never say you are in the city ”

Pub
“Lively joint. A favourite of lots of the young and trendy Joburg residents. Just be sure to keep your cellphone tucked away, as it's also a favourite of pick-pockets.”

Whisky Bar
“This popular cigar lounge, dining room and entertainment venue offers live jazz music from Tuesdays to Saturdays. The stage has showcased some of South Africa’s finest established and fresh musicians, and this month you can expect acts like Tokyo Groove, Supafly, Candy Jam and Gavin Morein Trio. Arts & Crafts Store
“The most established precinct on the edge of downtown Joburg, 44 Stanley is a mixed use development that fuses downtown urbanism with a subtle sophistication. A mix of carefully-curated, bespoke stores and independent restaurants gives the centre an authenticity that runs through eating, drinking, shopping, working and living experiences. Shady arcades and green courtyards between what was once a series of industrial 1930's buildings make this a unique Johannesburg space. Visit some of my favorite shops - Salvation cafe which always has fresh delicious organic food, Luna (fashion), Mungo (towels & throws), Bean There (coffee roastery), a chocolatier, bakery, jeweler, the Jozi shop (funky Johannesburg items) and loads of others. 5 mins drive from Greenside, unexpected & fun!”

Night Club
“An architectural first, KONG boasts a new take on the ordinary South African style nightclub. KONG is undoubtedly one the most exclusive night venues in Southern Africa, hosting celebrities such as Justin Bieber and D' Banj. Under its former title, Drake, Lil Wayne, Trey Songz, Chris Brown, Ciara, and many more. We are open every weekend as well as the night before a public holiday.”

Jazz Club
“A live music venue with shows 4 nights a week. The food is overpriced and not very good; eat before you go and stick with drinks and music. ”

Jazz Club
“Marabi is the name for the urban culture that emerged from the slum yards of 1920s and 1930s. The historic area in which The Marabi Club is located is the original home of Marabi and located in the basement of Maboneng’s Hallmark House boutique hotel, designed by star Ghanaian-British architect David Adjaye. ”
