Vacation Rentals in United States

Just booked in Glen Echo

An English basement like no other...this one has a to-die-for kitchen and a cavernous walk-in closet that others would consider a separate bedroom. The apartment's one bedroom has a queen-sized bed plus a home office nook with a large antique oak desk and chair. We recently added a daybed (twin-sized) that has a pop-up trundle (also twin-sized) in the bedroom. The daybed and trundle are not shown in the photos. The living room has a Jennifer sofa that converts to a full-sized (double) bed that sleeps two extra people. The pop-up trundle can be difficult to access since we must move the large desk to make room for it. So we also offer an airbed for the sixth person if the guest would prefer that. We have a pack 'n play available for families who need one. Includes bed linens, bath towels, and a fully-equipped kitchen, down to the coffee pot, crock pot and George Foreman grill (plus gas and charcoal grills and an electric smoker are available for your use outside.) WIFI is strong and the flatscreen TV provides cable and DVD viewing. Cleaning supplies and hand soap are provided, but please bring whatever toiletries you want to use in the shower or bathtub. The laundry room with Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer is shared with those of us living in our home above the apartment, and we must access it through the short center hallway of the apartment. So that the apartment guests are not disturbed too early in the morning or late in the evening, we limit laundry room hours for the occupants of the main house (normally 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., but we can shift those hours if need be.) Options available for an additional fee: 1. Parking. Parking on the street is relatively easy, but for those without resident parking permits (which we buy when we register our cars in DC every year), weekday parking is limited to two hours. We can obtain a permit for your car for $15/day. Without the permit, you are at risk of receiving a parking ticket after two hours on weekdays; Washington's parking enforcement officers are very efficient! 2. Grocery shopping. Let us know what you would like to buy, and we will have it waiting for you upon your arrival for the cost of the groceries plus a shopping/delivery fee of $25. 3. Pet care/dog walking. While we do allow pets in the apartment, dogs are not allowed to be left unattended. But we do offer dog daycare for $5 per hour with a 4-hour minimum. If you have two dogs, the second is at half-rate (so $7.50 per hour for two dogs.)
Our neighborhood is informally known as Cathedral Heights, giving a nod to Washington National Cathedral, the 6th largest cathedral in the world. You can visit the Cathedral and it's gorgeous grounds, just three short blocks from our home. The more formal name of our neighborhood is Observatory Circle, since it is the home of the U.S. Naval Observatory. This observatory is the official timekeeper in the United States. It is the home not only of telescopes and the master clock, but also of the Vice President of the United States. We love living so close to all the action, and love that it is so quiet. You are much more likely to be awakened by singing birds than by less pleasant city sounds. The birds appreciate the many trees in our neighborhood. We have a premium location: it's a 10-minute walk to restaurants, grocery stores, drug stores, etc. in Glover Park and Cleveland Park; a bit over a 1 mile walk to Georgetown University and American University; a 10-minute bus to Dupont Circle and a 20-minute bus to Foggy Bottom. You can walk, drive, or take a bus past the Vice President's residence and along Embassy Row on Massachusetts Avenue. We are three miles from the White House and National Mall.
  • Teresa's place is everything it claims to be and more. We stayed in the basement apartment which was perfect for a family gathering. Both the bed and the sofa bed were very comfortable. The large, well equipped kitchen was wonderful. There were plenty of towels, pillows, covers, etc. Both Teresa and Reid were very friendly and knowledgeable hosts. They were very accommodating but not overbearing. The neighborhood was quiet, lovely, and safe. We felt totally comfortable and look forward to a return visit.

  • Beautiful neighborhood. Easy access to everything we wanted to see and do. Friendly hosts made for a great experience, even stocked our apartment with complimentary breakfast food without us requesting it. Basement apartment has its own entrance for nice privacy.

  • We stayed with Teresa late October, 2010. What a pleasure to be able to relax in a warm, comfortable apartment, away from the big city traffic and noise. Teresa was knowledgeable about the area and had a number of fine, practical recomendations regarding parking and local shops. Although the noise from other guests on Saturday night was disturbing, and the occasional interuption from someone else doing laundry was ackward, we would have no touble staying again. It was a pleasure and we really enjoyed ourselves! Great value, and we hope to be back another time!

    Karen2010-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • This was a marvelous apartment. Teresa was a gracious host in allowing me to hold a small gathering in the space and she even helped me cut the roses for the vase. Highly recommended.

  • Teresa was very accommodating and responsive to all my inquiries. The rooms we stayed in were very nice - clean and comfortable.

    Kristin2011-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • What a perfect getaway! The apartment is spacious and perfectly appointed. We especially appreciated that the kitchen was so well equipped, as we made breakfast each morning and took advantage of the Whole Foods nearby. The garden is also a treasure, and makes you feel miles from downtown even though Georgetown and Dupont are only a couple of minutes away!

    Bryan2014-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Teresa- was very responsive and helpful in our emails prior to our stay. Her place was extremely clean and well set up. She and Reid even had cereal, OJ and yogurt for our breakfast! A great AirBNB experience. Ken

    Ken2013-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • I booked this room because Teresa was very friendly and accommodating when I inquired the housing (very responsive and recommends places to visit). I also had the confidence because of so many positive reviews and beautiful pictures. However, we didn't have a positive experience here (only thing I liked about was the location and that Teresa's husband was nice to talk to). I don't know if it's just a one-time thing that we happened to experience, but it was by far my least positive airbnb experience. Communication--Teresa didn't contact me until I reached out to her that we would arrive in the early afternoon and asked her how we should check in (the posting says 3pm checkin time). Teresa replies that her husband would be in the house after 2pm so we assumed it should be ready after that (or at the latest, ready after 3pm). HOWEVER, when we arrive at 4pm (we had some traffic), the previous guest just left and the used sheets and beddings were all over on the bed (well some of it was ready in the dryer). We found that very upsetting. Accuracy-- Another things we found upset is its inaccurate listing. First of all, we don't think it's reasonable to advertise it to host up to "8 people". we barely have room to move for 6 people. Okay this can be subjective so maybe I'm wrong. But when the bedroom only has one full-sized bed and one twin-sized bed, the listing wrongfully states "The apartment's one bedroom has a queen-sized bed .... We recently added a daybed (twin-sized) that has a pop-up trundle (also twin-sized) in the bedroom. The daybed and trundle are not shown in the photos." "For parties of more than 6 people, one twin (single) or queen-sized airbed will be provided..." This is not the case. There's not enough beds as described and 6 people definitely need an air bed. Value--We paid 300+ for the one-day stay and felt it overpriced when we arrived. Yes it's a premium location and the house is nice. So, although I knew it was just the basement, I thought it was reasonable price because I believed it to be much larger than it actually is (When I believe it can host 8 people and has a bedroom that's big enough for 3 beds). Since I don't know the real estate market in DC, this can be wrong. It's also possible that summer time is the most expensive season. But at the same time and for a similar price, in SF & LA we had a full house/apartment for 6 people. and for double the price we had 2.5 times the space in Manhattan upper west side near Central Park. I am stating the facts and I guess future guests can use their own discretion.

This one bedroom garden apartment is just a 10-minute walk from the Friendship Heights metro stop on the Red Line and a block from the L1 and L2 bus stop in a very safe, leafy NW neighborhood (Chevy Chase, DC). Renovated kitchen in 2013 and bathroom in 2014. Great for families - the fenced backyard has a trampoline and zip line. Separate entrance and close to shopping, grocery, restaurants and easy public transportation into DC. Free parking.
This newly renovated apartment is comfortable, spacious, yet cozy. The bedroom has a walk-in closet, the kitchen is fully equipped, and there is parking available out back. The living room has a queen size futon couch, a full sized pull out couch and a queen size air mattress - so sleeping up to 6 in the living room and 2 in the bedroom (total of 8) is possible if you have a larger group.
Chevy Chase DC is a quiet and very safe neighborhood nestled in Northwest DC. There is a grocery store 3 blocks north on Connecticut Avenue, movie theater and shops within a 10 minute walk.
  • Our house was for sale in MD so we needed some place to crash (with our 2 cats) for the weekend. Allison's place was perfect for us. Cozy, spotless, great kitchen for us to cook, and easy parking/accessibility/step in shower (which is an issue for me). We needed some flexibility on arrival/departure time and Allison was extremely accommodating. We enjoyed our stay!

    Andrea2016-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • I love coming to D.C. At Allison's. The house is beautiful and comfortable, and the location is perfect, close to restaurants, shops and not far from downtown. Ms. Allison is always very kind and helpful!. Thank you, thank you for the great times and memories! Can't wait already for our next visit!

    valentina2017-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • The space was spacious and clean and very centrally located. Although I did not speak to Allison while there, everything was clearly explained before arriving and we had no problems finding the location and letting ourselves in. I would highly recommend this accommodation. There were three of us, and there was plenty of room. You could easily stay here with your family.

    Kym2016-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • I had a wonderful stay at Allison's Garden Apartment. The neighborhood is beautiful and in an ideal location easily within walking distance of shops, cafes, and a metro stop. The space was huge with all of the amenities and the small fenced backyard was especially appreciated by my dog. Allison was friendly and so easy to work with. I will first check on the availability of this place first before selecting the dates for my next visit to DC. Thank you!

  • If you're looking to live like a local - especially with a family in tow - you can't go wrong booking Allison's home. Easy access to public transit and shops like Safeway and Starbucks, a free parking space, a beautiful walkable neighborhood, spacious accommodations, and a lovely backyard await you. My children giggled with delight at the zipline and the trampoline and upon arrival exclaimed, "This is so much better than a hotel!" I couldn't agree more!

    Andrea2017-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Allison was a wonderful host even in her absence. She was very quick to respond and provided helpful tips. Most importantly the apartment was as promised with everything you need. The space is large and comfortable with great lighting. The effortless checkin process, prominently located essentials and the available parking space all helped to reduce the stress of travel esp with children. You can hear walking from Allison's family upstair yet that is expected in basements or lowers levels. However it was not too disruptive or at odd hours. I absolutely plan to book this location anytime we are in DC.

  • Great stay!

  • I've stayed at Elisabeth's place several times now - always a pleasure! Highly recommend.

    Laura2017-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • It was such a cute little spot, I loved it. It was so easy to leave the car parked in the driveway & hop in an Uber to go to the more commercial areas. The landlord was very easy to contact. I would definitely recommend.

    Cassidy2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Elisabeth's place is quiet basement apartment with a queen bed, plenty of space, a TV, a private bathroom, and snacks! Everything was clean and the apartment was easy to get into. I was working for several days in Bethesda, and Elizabeth's place is a 12 minute commute. Tons of shops/restaurants nearby. Elisabeth was very accessible by email/phone to answer any questions - would definitely recommend.

    Saman2017-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Elizabeth's place was a joy. It's a lovely well appointed oasis close to our friends and within walking distance to shops & the metro. We stayed 3 nights, parked in the driveway most of the time and used the metro once; so didn't need to use the parking voucher for the surrounding streets. There were several metro tickets in the apartment along with lots of DC information. The many special touches at Elizabeth's are granola bars, snacks, drinks, robes, slippers, books, and games. Everything was sparkling and inviting. Although we didn't meet Elizabeth, her daughter promptly helped us figure out how to use the TV.

  • Elisabeth studio is a great place to stay when you visit DC. Very clean and with all the amenities you need. Excellent internet and peaceful environment for a good rest at night. The area is gorgeous and very close to public transportation. Elisabeth was a great host and was very easy to coordinate with her. Highly recommended

  • We had such a wonderful time staying at this Airbnb! The place is exactly as described, plus even more! It was clean and bigger than I expected. Betsy and Yan were wonderful hosts and even let us drop off our bags early so we could get a full first day downtown in DC. There were lots of extra details and amenities like water, books, toiletries, umbrellas to borrow, and even robes! The bed was so comfortable, it was hard to get up in the morning. Location was also perfect! While it may not be downtown D.C., it was a quick walk to the Metro and easy to get everywhere from there. My husband was even able to get to the Nationals baseball game easily without s car. This place was by far one of our favorite Airbnb's so far!

  • Jennifer, Matt and her family were conscientious, helpful and showed genuine concern for my mom's health and my daughters' difficult circumstances. We enjoyed their home and the location was fantastic to explore Bethesda. We had a wonderful visit!

  • Great place to stay near NIH and not too far from DC. Gracious hosts, quiet neighborhood. Highly recommend!

    Suzanne2016-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • The place was as described and was comfortable and clean for our family stay in the area. Hosts were friendly we did not see Jennifer or her husband much. They were out most of the time or quiet upstairs. Her husband checked us in and showed us around, gave us a key and answered questions. The keurig and groanola bars were a great touch. Cooking utensils a little sparse but there seened to be enough plates, silverware, coffee cups, glasses etc with dish soap and sponges to clean them. The w as her dryer was a nice plus. They were as quiet as possible with thee kids.. really only heard in am when getting up. The only thing that nade ne nervous was that it took Jennifer a long time to reply the week before our trip and then kept moving the check in time towards 5pm due to not being ready, as we were driving closer. It worked out ok as we arrived an hour later due to traffic, but we originally planned aimed for the 4 o'clock checkin before going out to dinner with family in the area. Her husband said she had just started a new job and things were a bit crazy for them. We were able to come and go with no issues and they did not mind our late returns after a full day of sight seeing. We came in at 10pm and midnight some nights The path to the basemebt was well lit. Requests for toiletries and other things quickly responded to. Overall a great first air bandb experience. Would stay again on a trip back. 5 minutes to metro, 40 minutes to dc on metro and 25-40 or more by car.. it was easy to get into DC via Connecticut NW. Thank you!

    Chris2017-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer's place is more than we could asked for. The night before our arrival She contacted me if we need a high chair, since she knows that I will be arriving with our two years old. We ended up with a high chair and a pack n play during our visit. The place is very convenient for our purpose. As I lived in the area previously, having a car is a big place to move around. Would recommend this place to anyone. Truly enjoy our stay.

    Agam2016-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • My mom and I had a wonderful break in Jennifer's house. The rooms are clean and quiet. This house is not too far to the most of the places, if you have a car. We really enjoy the beautiful environment around the house. It will be a good choice to walk around and relax in the morning and evening.

Me and my wife live in the beautiful neighborhood of The Palisades just 5 min. away from Georgetown by car or few blocks away from the C&O canal where you can ride your bike to the city in less than 15 Min. There is no other place like this in DC.
It is very special that you can fit 6 people very comfortably in a single space with character and great views.
Neighborhood Character: The Palisades is known for its tree-lined streets and small-town character. The area is predominately residential, but MacArthur Boulevard is the neighborhood’s commercial strip. It is lined with restaurants and shops, and it’s very walkable. This part of the city really doesn’t look like it’s part of a city at all– it really feels like a small town tucked away in a beautiful natural area. The people who live in this area don’t necessarily look like many other DC residents either: the Palisades is home to an overwhelmingly culturally diverse population, with a lot more families with young children than you’d see in other neighborhoods.
  • Charlie was a great host!! The home was in a central location for everything that we wanted to do. We were minutes from the train station and in a safe and friendly neighborhood. I would definitely recommend them again and again! Thank you again for everything.

    Alan2015-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Charlie was a great host. He received me and my family and helped us carry our luggage into the house. The space is as open and full of light as the pictures show, you don't feel you are in a basement apartment. Everything was super clean and my kids LOVED the bunkbeds and the TV. I was a bit concerned about the noises from upstairs, but we hardly noticed there are children in the house. They are really well trained! :) Charlie told us about the new bathroom he had built for Airbnb guests, and it really makes a great addition. Thank you for thinking of us! This is a great option for small families visiting Washington DC, and the kindness and generosity of Charlie makes the stay a rewarding experience.

    Lara2016-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Charlie is great, and so is the place we stayed! We came and stayed with our 4 girls for a quick trip to DC from Ohio. Charlie was a wonderful host and cooked us a great breakfast. He even bought some gluten free bagels just for us! Big screen TV was great for watching a movie with the kids at the end of a long day. Our girls had a blast!

  • Charlie is very nice to host us, and the house is very clean and comfortable. Definitely recommend it!

  • Charlie and his family are really nice and friendly. We were 6 girls from 3 different countries and the kids tried to speak with us in French and German, that was really sweet. If you really want to enjoy your stay in Washington DC, you really have to meet this family!

    Marjorie2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Charlie is a very nice person,he ask us if we want to know any great museums, and he made some great breakfast for us like pancake. He have a very nice house, and the room is very big, it have a big TV and sofa, and there is four bed and you have your private door. The surrounding is nice too, there is firefly at night time and the trees is big and beautiful. And be hide the house there is a small garden.

  • To describe our experience in Jane's home I will borrow language from Mary Poppins: "Practically perfect in every way!" Our family (including two children, 12 & 10) had a wonderful time ~ A perfect launching pad for seeing Washington, DC ~ And Jane made tasty breakfasts for us, too!

  • Wonderful pre-trip correspondence! Flexible and warm in-person greeting. Sat with us each morning during breakfast.

  • Jane and Max are friendly, welcoming, and interested hosts. They are long term residents of DC and are able to provide extremely useful touring guidance. It was a pleasure discussing our plans with them at breakfast and frequently at the end of the day. Our room was comfortable, cozy and had everything we needed. The entire house was very clean. I loved the lively, family oriented neighborhood which is conveniently located just north of Georgetown. Public transportation is almost on the doorstep. Jane provides her guests with a parking pass for the neighborhood, but be warned, parking in DC can be problematic. That being said, we only had some difficulty finding a place on one of our four nights. If you are interested in experiencing DC as the residents do, this is the perfect listing. I recommend it highly.

  • It is my pleasure to write a review of our weekend with Jane and Max. Their house is beautiful and immaculately clean. The bedroom is comfortable and private with its full bathroom. Mornings were fun - delicious homemade breakfast, great coffee (and I'm picky) and lively conversation. Did I mention the cherry on top?? Bella, their tiny, snorting Boston Terrier. I ended up with more pictures of Bella than my graduating son! The second bedroom is actually a family room. This was a plus since it allowed us to entertain our son and his finance. So convenient to American University and Georgetown with excellent restaurants within walking distance. We also had a surprising easy time parkiing. If there is a problem, Jane and Max have a parking sticker to put on your car and a drivieway as well. Joanne O

  • We had a wonderful stay with Jane. We heartily recommend the place to anyone visiting Washington. The hospitality was warm and the room very nice. Our hosts were very helpful with directions and recommendations and we were made to feel like friends of the family. The neighborhood is a charming place, well suited for walking and well served by bus. The Old Europe Restaurant down the street is an authentic slice of Germany. Overall, a 5 star experience! • Staying with Jane and Max was great! They are very kind and helpful, the room was comfortable and quiet, and check in and out was flexible. We had the pleasure of meeting another guest in the house, a little dog named Dusty. He was also very accommodating.

  • One Bedroom Suite in the Heart of Things was clean and attractive. The room was on third floor but they had an elevator. Rose and Billy were pleasant and professional. Unfortunately, we did not get to stay due to a family emergency but we would stay there in the future.

    Linda2013-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Rose and Billy are very nice and helpful people. Their house located in a community which is tidy, quiet, safe and convenient. The room they offered is as clean as Hilton Hotel. I wish every room offered on BnB could achieve their level.

  • Great stay! The room is clean, the bed is comfortable and the transportation is convenient.

  • Rose, Billy, and Baja are my favorite DC hosts. Can't wait to stay again soon!

    James2017-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Rose and Billy were very warm and welcoming hosts, and my girlfriend and I enjoyed staying at their place - which is spotlessly clean, right next to the Metro stop and smack in the middle of a (rather upscale) shopping district with plenty of (inexpensive) dining options nearby. Highly recommended!

  • Welcoming and comfortable lodgings. Attending an intense training and it felt good to have a welcoming place to go back to at night. Their place is very convenient and I was able to park my car and walk to the training and other places.

Our stylish and cozy one bedroom apartment is located in a beautiful neighborhood walking distance to NIH, Walter Reed Navy Medical Center, and the Red Line metro. There is plenty of parking right out front and there is a bus stop outside the door.
It doesn't get much better than this! Welcome to our large, comfortable and completely private one bedroom suite in private home in Bethesda, MD. The apartment does receive natural light so it doesn't feel much like a basement. We are walking distance to NIH/Navy Med/Walter Reed and the Medical Center Metro on the Red Line. There is also a bus stop right outside door. Plenty of on-street parking is also available. Downtown Bethesda is a mile away, known for its 100's of restaurants. The apartment has a separate entrance which you access from a private walkway from the street (along the side of the house). There is a private, full bath and kitchenette in addition to the living/dining room and bedroom. The apartment is equipped with all you need to prepare basic meals and snacks including: microwave, refrigerator/freezer, coffee maker, toaster and serving ware. (no full size stove/oven) Fresh sheets and linens are provided along with some basic kitchen/food supplies. Cable TV and wireless internet included along with premium movie channels and NFL Red Zone. The apartment is clean and comfortably furnished with all linens and towels provided. Super comfy king size bed with new mattress. We promise a cozy room that you will enjoy lounging in. **please note, above the apartment is a house with a family living in it (including a geriatric dog!). You can be assured an incredibly quiet space at night but there will be normal family noise...i.e. people walking above...during the day.
We are located in a fabulous, family friendly neighborhood within walking distance of a park, walking/biking trails and the YMCA in addition to quick and convenient access to downtown Bethesda and DC.
  • What a treat! This location is beautiful. Kristin was very communicative throughout my stay (even checking in one day to ensure all was well). The unit is Extremely clean, warm and inviting. The bathroom is very comfortable and complete with a luxury shower head and comfy towels. The unit is complete with everything you need for a comfortable stay, Kristin was even nice enough to include a binder full of adjacent restaurants, stores and detailed driving directions. This was definitely a extremely easy and relaxing escape that I recommend 100% to all Airbnb travelers!

    Devin2014-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in "our home away from home". Kristen greeted us and gave us a tour of our apt. It suited our needs just perfectly. The king-size bed was so comfortable it was difficult to get up in the morning! The location was perfect for us- just a short drive to our son's home. We loved our last apt. in the DC area when we used airbnb, but the location was a little too far for us to travel back and forth every day. The small kitchen worked well for us, as we really didn't plan to do any cooking. The children didn't bother us a bit. There is a manual available for details regarding the apt. as well as a list for public transportation. The neighborhood was nice and quiet. This apartment was perfect for our needs.

  • Clean simple place that's accurate with the descriptions online. Very welcoming couple.

    Sung2015-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • Nice size apt. Easy to access and good communication with host. Large bed, comfortable. It is on the corner and very near the bus stop for routes 30 and 46, which can be taken to and from the Medical Center metro stop if you do not want to walk. 46 runs later and can be used coming back late from DC, but also a safe walk back.

    Barbara2015-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Kristin's basement apartment was exactly as described. I didn't get a chance to meet her, but she left clear, easy to follow instructions and was very responsive to any questions. The bed was comfortable, the apartment warm (it was chilly and rainy outside that weekend), and the sofa was perfect for relaxing after a hectic day of activities. The place was very roomy, which was great. I had a car, so I didn't rely on metro, but Kristin's place was close to NIH metro and also a quick uber ride to downtown DC. I would recommend this place and stay there again!

    Margaret2015-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • This apartment is very comfortable and convenient! You can truly feel at home here. Very well equipped and comfy. Terrific bed and bathroom. There's a window that lets in good light and breeze and the frosted front door makes you feel like you're not in a basement. Kristen is an extremely understanding and flexible host. Very friendly and accommodating. We would stay here over and over and would highly recommend it!

  • Perfect. Brett and Leslie are great hosts. They were eager to ensure that my stay was pleasant. They even provided fresh eggs from the chickens. The eggs were very tasty. They also provided a bottle of wine. The space is a full 1 bedroom apartment with a full kitchen and full-size washer and dryer. It is in a very nice quiet neighborhood. It is deceivingly close to Georgetown and Arlington. I telecommute. The apartment was perfect during the day to get my work done. In the evening, I met friends in DC for dinner and it was a quick drive. When I come back to DC, I will definitely stay with Brett and Leslie.

  • I stayed at Brett and Leslie's place in the late summer of 2017. My experience there was one of the best Airbnb experiences I've had. They are very warm and engaging people and perfect hosts. The actual apartment is new, modern, and very clean with 9-foot ceilings. One of the attractions of living there was the Potomac River which is a 20 minute walk away. You will enjoyed taking walks along the river. The Cabin John neighborhood is in a rural setting but you have quick access to downtown D. C. with the bus, Uber/Lyft and the metro. My personal thanks again for this experience! Don J

  • BReTT &LesLie are great hosts and had made us enjoy staying in their apartment through our vacation in maryLand! They were available, accessible, and proactive through our stay. We found coffee, tea, and wine, and a clean apartment waiting for us. I strongly recommend them to you all!

  • This is a quiet, elegant basement apartment with all the amenities you may need. Hosts were responsive and helpful. I did find the street parking limited and difficult because of the narrow design of street on this block. A dedicated space at the bottom of the driveway (near the unit entrance) would be optimal and an easy fix.

    Thomas2018-01-30T00:00:00Z

Location is great, being close to the Beltway and Clara Barton Parkway and a several good restaurants, a deli, and local coop market just a few blocks away. • This is a lovely vacation "house" in a walkout basement in an upscale DC area neighborhood. It is MUCH larger than it looks in the photo. Lots of amenities such as a fully stocked kitchen with a coffee maker, coffee, breakfast cereal and some random dried and canned food supplied by Gala. You should plan to cook some meals there. The decor is comfortable and friendly. The shower is amazing. There is a lush large backyard with a table and benches. There is a laundry room you can use, a dining area and a living room area with a television. We stayed in the bedroom and my 16 son was on the convertible sofa in the living room. Gala was on top of everything and easy to contact.

    Frances2017-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • My son and I had a wonderful stay. Gala was such a warm and gracious hostess. Check in was super easy. Communication was great. Very quiet and tranquil space. The 'room' is really a full apartment, including a full kitchen with everything you need to cook a simple meal. Location was great for us-easy access to wherever you need to go. We will definitely be back. Great find.

Quiet newly built independent Unit in a family house. It has a washer and dryer and a walk-in closet. The bathroom is well equipped. There is a new kitchen and eating area. Located in an excellent, upscale Bethesda neighborhood five minutes from Bethesda downtown in the DC metropolitan area. Also close to the NIH ( National Institute of Health) and Suburban hospital. Ride on bus no. 36 is 2 minutes from the house. Utilities including Internet (WIFI) are included . Free street parking.
You’ll love this place because of the neighborhood, and the coziness. The place is good for couples, solo adventurers, a group of friends, professionals and business travelers. Look at the several pictures on this listing.
Bethesda is essentially an upscale suburb of Washington DC. Public transport is easy, there's plenty to do (though with none of the edginess of living closer in DC) and it's minutes from all the nation's capital has to offer. Many areas are typical 1950s center hall colonials updated by Bethesda's upper middle class residents. Downtown Bethesda is a lively destination for area residents. It offers live theater, a great cinema, art galleries and outdoor sculptures, oodles of restaurants, shopping, and public parking garages.
  • It's a comfortable, modern place to stay, and I enjoyed the view of the garden.

  • Surendra was a wonderful host. Check in was very easy and every question was answered immediately. The unit was spotless, with new furniture, and perfect for my husband and me and our 10-year-old granddaughter. The kitchen is very large, with a table and chairs, and equipped with everything we needed. The neighborhood is lovely and a few minute drive to downtown Bethesda. Great WiFi and a sliding door separates the kitchen from the other rooms so we could have business calls without disturbing anyone. And the separate dressing room is a real plus. Highly recommend staying here!

  • Surendra has been an excellent and friendly host. His prompt communication and local knowledge has been exceptional help for us. The location is safe, relaxing and convenient to Bethesda's eateries and shops. The apartment is as described. It's new, clean and comfortable. The kitchen is full size, very functional and we have been able to conveniently prepare our food. And our host has been very caring with little touches and assisting us.

  • My boyfriend and I stayed here for two and a half months while interning in the DC area. We found the apartment to be very private and exactly as advertised. The neighborhood was very quiet and a great place to run, especially with two schools located within walking distance. The best part of our experience was our lovely hosts who were always making sure our stay was comfortable. Surendra even installed lights along the pathway for us if we ever got in late! We were very lucky to have found such a great place and we would definitely stay here again!

Upscale neighborhood. Conveniently located for driving or metro/bus. Home is in the corner of a quiet cul-de-sac with lots of free parking available around the house. Shopping, entertainments and restaurants are a few minutes away. Furnished room includes a comfortable and clean bed with mattress, pillows and sheets; closet and dresser; desk and rolling chair; mini-fridge; lamps and rug. Room has hardwood floor and windows. Two recreation rooms w/cable TV, bike storage room, laundry, etc.
You cannot beat the location and price of this room in a beautiful house! This spacious house has two recreation rooms with cable TV, backyard and a lot of parking space for your use. We are on a 10 minutes bus ride to the Bethesda or Friendship Heights metro stations, red line. Shopping center, restaurants/cafes and grocery stores are four minutes away.
We are very close to our own beautiful recreation area, Merrimack Park. It is a county park with tennis courts, a basketball hoop and children's equipment, which is unusual for a close-in location. This area is a beautiful oasis of trees and shrubs, close to restaurants, shopping, and entertainment parts of Bethesda/Chevy Chase and DC. With a car, or with very easy access to public transportation, the DC metro area is convenient for our guests. It is an exceedingly safe, hospitable area.
  • What a gracious host! I booked an instant booking at the last hour. Iris was out but hurried home to greet me. Because this was such a last minute reservation she was in the middle of doing a home repair, which she apologized profusely for; there really was no need. The room was clean and comfortable and well away from the work that was being done. The room had a refrigerator which was a nice perk that I appreciated. The bathroom was the nicest and cleanest I have used at an air B&B home. Iris and I didn't interact much because it was late and I went straight to bed and then got up early to catch a flight. We chatted a bit and she was very nice. She has the calmest Yorkie I have ever met. If I find myself back in the area I will definitely stay with Iris again.

  • I had a fantastic stay at Iris' place. I would recommend it to anyone visiting the DC area. Very nice/convenient area and Iris couldn't have been more welcoming!

  • Iris did a fantastic job! I highly recommend staying with her and plan to stay with her next time I'm in the area. She made sure I was comfortable, communicated consistently, and made sure I had everything I needed. The room had a large closet, desk, and mini fridge that more than met my needs. She was also super flexible about check in and check out, which was phenomenal for me since I wasn't quite sure of my timeline until the day of.

  • This is a charming house, with a very helpful host. She is almost always in the house. The best indicator of the quality of the receipt is that some guests come back to the house again, including for the long periods. No problem at all with cooking (all cooking utensils available; little fridge in each room), going to a bathroom (there are three in the house, and in the case of "emergency" it is possible to use any of them), communicating with the other guests (all are very friendly; you can choose either to communicate actively, or not to communicate at all, both are fine). My tips: for those who likes coffee, there is a filter coffee machine; the little dog is charming; during the colder period, it is possible to use the fireplace, with a help of the host; the laundry is super convenient, at the same house; the terrace is huge and nice. Thanks a lot, Iris!

The house is often described as a retreat because it feels like a sunny cabin in the woods, but it is just 2-3 minutes drive from restaurants and shopping (Whole Foods!), 10 minutes from Bethesda, and 15-20 minutes from most of Washington DC. NIH, AU, GU, Marriott, and Avenel are close by. You will be amazed that privacy and nature can exist so close to an urban center. Vacationing families, business travelers, pro golfers, locals needing extra space, and the occasional dog enjoy staying here.
The house sits on a hill above the Potomac River in an established and walkable neighborhood. In the style of Frank Lloyd Wright, the living room faces the morning sun, the master bedroom has sunset views, and built-ins and wood abound. Waking up in the morning, all you see are trees and birds. The heat comes from the floors, and additional heating/cooling has been added. Drawer and closet space is limited, but a solid washer/dryer is available. The house is charming, but older so please expect and enjoy the occasional quirk.
It is very easy to get to the house from I-495 and I-270. A short drive west of the neighborhood is Great Falls Park, a dramatic set of falls that draws thousands of visitors. I encourage you to walk the neighborhood and say hello to residents. You will see families, retirees and dog owners on the quiet streets. The C&O Canal is a great place to walk or run.
  • The host canceled this reservation 2 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.

  • Architectural gem, a bike ride away from downtown Bethesda and public transportation. A walk or bike ride away from a beautiful canal, where people hike, run, walk, and where we biked from Bethesda to Georgetown. A relaxing way to visit Washington, D.C. , as home is an oasis to return to. Close to downtown Bethesda and American University, and Avenel Golf Course, and yet a world away in a charming treehouse like feeling of a home, with a redone kitchen. Host was lovely to leave us snacks for our late night arrival stay. We loved the master bedroom which looks out at a forest .

  • Absolutely beautiful house! David was a fantastic host and made sure we had everything we needed. The house was spotless yet homey. Close to public transit, grocery stores, and restaurants, with easy access to Bethesda and DC. Would definitely recommend this listing!

  • Nice spacy place to stay, in a quiet neighborhood. David is a great host! Would return there anytime I would be back in town. Nice touch of fresh flowers in a vase. 3 bathrooms makes it wonderful for the guests to have privacy. Thank you David.

    Isabelle2017-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • David's place is wonderful! Designed by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, it is a great meeting of form and function, and successfully incorporates the beautiful nature that surrounds the house into the house through large windows. We got to enjoy the cardinals, chipmunks, and even deer while sitting on the sofa. A great place to stay!

Our sunny bedroom in this quiet neighborhood provides a very welcome retreat after a hectic day of travel or sightseeing. The T-2 Metro Bus stops on River Road/Winston delivers you to the Friendship Heights METRO subway in Washington, D.C. The Montgomery County RIDE ON Bus will take you to central Bethesda. Great restaurants and shopping on Bethesda Avenue, plus the free Bethesda Circulator Bus will take you around downtown Bethesda.
We live in a quiet, safe, old Bethesda neighborhood with parking in front of the house. Our large, sunny bedroom has new furniture, and our guests say they sleep very well in the queen size bed. The private bathroom (with a hair dryer) is adjacent to the bedroom. Because we live on a dead-end street there are no annoying traffic noises to keep you awake.
Our guests love this old, quiet and safe tree-lined neighborhood. It's known as one of the most convenient areas, equally close to shops and restaurants in Bethesda, Washington, D.C. or McLean/Tysons Corner, VA. We're just a few miles from the historic C & O Canal, for hiking or walking and the Glen Echo Park.

  • Elizabeth and her husband Rob were the best airbnb hosts a traveler could ask for! This was my first time using airbnb and I was unsure whether staying with strangers was a good idea. Elizabeth immediately pacified my concerns with her compassion and sincerity. We immediately hit it off and I realized that I had made the right choice by staying at her place! I highly recommend staying with Elizabeth if you are traveling in the DC area!

Elizabeth and Rob made us feel very welcome and ensured that we felt right at home! The coffee in the morning was especially helpful:) It felt like staying with family. Trip to central DC takes about 45 minutes by public transport if you take the bus that runs very close to the house.

  • Martha's place is in such a lovely and safe neighborhood very close to D.C. Martha and Cesar really make you feel at home . The conversations were lovely and enjoyable as well as delicious breakfasts ! The bed was so comfortable. I slept as if I were in my own home . We easily accessed the Metro to get around in DC . Our wonderful hosts dropped us off and picked us up at the Metro station just about 10 minutes away .

    Charise2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • The room was great. Really really comfortable and nice. There is a bus that takes you to the metro at the corner of the street. It takes 20 to 40 minutes to get to the National Institue of health. However, what struck us the most were Martha and Cesar. They are the most helpful persons I have ever met. They helped us in every possible way, and spending time with them was a pleasure. In the end we expected to encounter our hosts, but we feel more like we have met new friends.

    Adrien2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Martha and Cesar's! They were both so kind and communicative and went out of their way for us. Their home is beautiful and in a very nice, safe area of town. It's also close to the metro or just a short drive from DC, so very convenient. The room itself was very comfortable as well, we felt very at home. They even offered us coffee and breakfast in the morning which was wonderful. Thank you so much for a great stay, we have nothing but kind words! Would definitely recommend to anyone traveling to the DC area, we know we will stay there again when we're back in the area!

    Rene2017-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • I greatly enjoyed my stay with Martha and her husband. They made me feel very welcome. The bed was quite comfortable, the bathroom was a few steps down the hall and everything was clean and beautiful. They even stocked the mini-frig with water and various drinks, and they provided snacks and breakfast. They were very gracious with me, and I plan to stay with them again, when I return to the D.C. area.

  • Great hospitality, great location, confortable bed and great room, accommodating, great for a short stay in DC

    Maxine2017-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Martha's home was perfect in every respect. Not only is her home beautiful and comfortable, but she and Cesar provided every amenity we could possibly need, from drinks/snacks in our room's refrigerator, to a fully stocked bathroom and to offering a delicious, healthy breakfast each day. Martha and Cesar are very warm, friendly and interesting people to talk with, but they also gave us our privacy when we needed it. Their home is in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood, conveniently located near American University, where we were visiting our daughter, as well as near public transportation and shops/restaurants in Bethesda. We also enjoyed the short walk to the Rock Creek bike/jogging path. We feel very lucky to have found such a wonderful place and such lovely hosts. We highly recommend Martha's place to others who are looking for a comfortable, friendly home to stay in near the DC/Bethesda area!

    Sharon2017-05-15T00:00:00Z
  • Martha is a very sweet and generous host. The location is easy access to Georgetown (Massachusetts Ave is the cross street) so not bad to downtown or the mall either. It is a very quiet neighborhood and there is plenty of on-street parking. Martha was in the house the entire time we were there. The king bed was very soft but the room is a bit tight. There is a ceiling fan but on the days of 90 degree temps it was a bit stuffy in the room at night. There was good closet space and plenty of towels. The bathroom was down the hall and right next to the kitchen, not an en suite, and it was tiny but functional. We never used the kitchen but Martha made it available to us. There is a very nice backyard which was also made available to us if we wanted to use it for a gathering. It's a good value for the area.

This Merrimack neighborhood dead-ends in a County park with tennis courts, a basketball hoop and children's equipment. What this means is that we have no outside traffic: only the people that live in this development even know that we exist. :)
  • Absolutely. Elizabeth was easy going and very responsive to our messages (and change of arrival time). The room was great, especially the electric blankets. The neighborhood is safe and convenient with on-street parking. It was a seamless stay, and certainly on the list for those long road trips. :)

  • Before my stay, Elizabeth called me to make sure that I was ready and all set for my stay. Although unfortunately she was out of town, she and Rob did everything to ensure that my mom and I had a wonderfully pleasant stay. The neighborhood was very peaceful, quiet, clean, and absolutely beautiful. The room was in the basement and easy to access. There are a few steps in order to get downstairs, but that was not a problem for my mom and me. The room was clean, spacious, and exactly as pictured/described. Elizabeth and Rob provided menus, directions, maps, coffee, milk, sugar, tea, cups, plates, napkins... everything we needed!

  • Joanne is really a very nice person, very very patiently introduction during checking in. The house is big, comfortable and clean, with full refrigerator food for breakfast, perfect environment, complete facilities. We are 4 mummies and 4 children, we can cook there and enjoy a very nice vacation. One morning during our breakfast, there is deer family passing by, seems like live in the zoo. We like it very much, if have next vacation, we will still choose this again. Strongly recommend for D.C. Visit living.

    Ting2017-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Joanne was very nice and had everything ready when we arrived. She waited for us even though we came in late around 8 pm. The refrigerator was full of food such as eggs, cheese, fruits, milk, juice...etc. The location is perfect, very close to DC and so many restaurants and shops around, Highway 495 and Potomac river within short distance. The house is huge, 5 beds, nice backyard garden, gym, and full kitchen. The area is safe with nice neighborhood. I think the only negative this is the host need to improve the cleaning of the house as there was a bad smell in the carpets, and the towels. In general the house is perfect.

    Saif2016-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I recommend Joanne’s Airbnb to any large family or small family/friends reunion. We enjoyed it as home for eight of us participating in an “Old Geezers” reunion of first cousins on my wife’s side of the family. We arrived on Sunday and departed on Thursday – four nights. The actual gatherings each evening for the whole group occurred nearby in the Chevy Chase home of one of our cousins. It was only fifteen minutes away. Joanne greeted us when we arrived and gave us the once-over tour of her home to point out where we could sleep, the kitchen, the laundry and computer in case we need it for (Hidden by Airbnb) maps. She had printed out directions/maps to some major attractions and provided contact phone number of a neighbor in case we needed help. Before she left we asked where we could purchase wine on a Sunday evening - she offered us one of hers as a welcome gift! Her home is fully decorated and complete with antique items as well as modern touches. This is a house that has been lived in and well cared for. The neighborhood is lovely and quiet – many friendly dog walkers. The kitchen was a delight – large gas stove in an island arrangement that allowed plenty of room for a number of us to serve ourselves at breakfast and lunch. There are two refrigerators that she stocked with breakfast foods and sodas. One morning we added leaves to her antique dinning room table to seat eight of thirteen “Geezers” for a large group breakfast – the other five chose to eat outside in her backyard at tables with cushioned chairs. It was a beautiful morning with filtered sunshine coming through the canopy of surrounding, tall, old trees. The songbirds were many and varied; a lovely space for quiet conversations. Two couples in our group used the two bedrooms with larger beds on the second floor.. Three of the singles had bedrooms (first floor bedroom had a single, pull out couch) and the remaining single enjoyed the double pullout bed in the family room/kitchen area. There was a half bath bedroom and a full bathroom on first floor. The second had a full bathroom. The third floor bedroom shared the second floor, full bathroom. The master bedroom on the second floor had a luxurious bathroom with a two-shower-head, walk-in shower and a large soaking tub with water jets. There is a Safeway grocery store a few minutes drive away as well as gas stations and shopping centers. We enjoyed the short drive to the Echo Glen Historic Amusement Park; the Metro (short car ride to closest station) to the Smithsonian Museums; and walks along the canal. In the “minor issues department” we searched around for some household supplies (tissues, toilet paper, bath soap, etc.) and the usual exploration of the kitchen cabinets/drawers for appropriate cooking and serving items. Some drawers, closets and medicine cupboards clearly held her family’s personal items, but...

  • Virginie was great at communicating and her family was nice. It was a great place to stay while I acclimated to the area and was within reasonable distance to NIH where I was coming to work. The one small thing to note is that the host family does have small kids so you have to be okay with a little bit of noise because that's just how kids are but overall great experience!

  • Virginie and her husband were very welcoming and friendly! The space is private and clean. Quick uber ride to the Bethesda metro station. My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay and I would recommend their place to anyone!

  • What a great place to stay in the Bethesda area! A sparkling clean and sunlit apartment with a wide open, scenic view from the 10th floor, with thoughtful layout and amenities. The shuttle to the metro station was convenient, and grocery and other stores were available near the building. Great lap pool too! Bojan was so helpful and accommodating to airline problems and schedule changes and communication was so easy. I look forward to staying there again!

  • I had a great stay at Bojan's place! Very clean and modern layout with a really comfy couch and big TV. It's in a good location across the street from a Giant grocery store. Parking was also always very easy.

  • I stayed at this apartment for a month while working at the NIH. It was very clean and comfortable, and I had a wonderful stay. The pictures are accurate, this is a very nice space in a luxury building with a nice fitness center and pool. There is a shuttle and also a bus that go to the subway, about 7 minutes away, so the commute was overall easy and convenient. Bojan was a great host and responded very quickly to a minor issue when I first arrived and fixed it, after that I had no issues for the whole month. Would definitely recommend this apartment.

  • Absolutely perfect apartment in a great location close to Bethesda and Washington. Giant is less then 1 minute by foot and you are at Whole Foods in under 5 min by car. Very comfy bed and great kitchen. This apartment is absolutely recommended.

  • The apartment is beautiful and the bed is very comfortable. It's close to a grocery store and the capital crescent trail is great for a walk. There's a fitness area and a pool. The shuttle driver Manny is excellent and everyone is extremely helpful and nice. We totally enjoyed our stay.

  • This was a great place to spend a couple of days. The apartment was clean, spacious and cozy. It had everything you need and in a great location. Bojan was very helpful in answering all questions and made our stay very comfortable. I would definitely recommed anyone to stay at his place.

  • Although Bojan was away, we communicated over the emails and he responded prompty and efficiently, and her mom gently helped me in the check in. His apartment is wonderful, 10th floor with a view to the woods of the Capital Crescent Trail, full of sunshine. The apartment has a full-sized PC that you can use, and donwstairs there are other PCs and printer. The apartment complex has a complimentary shuttle to Friendship Heights in the mornings and evenings. In sum, well-equipped, quiet, just a wonderful stay in a very nice and upscaled place! Would love to return.
