Our lovely double height wood and stone barn directly opposite our house is found at the end of a long private drive in glorious countryside. A very comfortable 5ft bed, woodburning stove and lovely views, a perfect relaxing and cosy retreat. Easy access to lots of interesting places. Guests can play tennis and croquet. The Barn sleeps two adults. Ample parking directly next to Barn. Please note the Barn is not suitable for children. NB There are no shops or pubs within walking distance.
The Barn is set at the end of a long drive, well away from any road, in a private 33 acre estate, no noise, no light pollution, just peace and quiet. Although directly opposite the main house, it is quite private. High ceilings, french windows with country views, kingsize double bed (on mezzanine accessed by quite steep stairs), wood burning stove, oak dining table with candles, WIFI (not super fast or that strong), TV DVD player - everything you need for a comfortable weekend or longer stay. It is not a hi-tech/spec barn but it is comfy and in a beautiful setting. Parking directly next to the Barn. Well situated for visits to Bath, Salisbury, the Jurassic Coast, Gold Hill, the new Hauser & Wirth gallery/restaurant in Bruton, Longleat, and much more. Fantastic walking and cycling country. Adjacent to Copse View alpaca walking as seen on Countryfile! One king bed on the mezzanine level in the Barn. Shower with constant hot water. Private BBQ area Tennis Court Croquet Lawn Clay pigeon shooting (extra cost) We are happy to collect guests from nearby railway station at Gillingham, Dorset (where there is Waitrose/Lidl/Asda). Bear in mind nearest pub would then be 30 mins walk. Beautiful unspoilt countryside - watch the deer and buzzards from the windows - and lots of good pubs nearby. Excellent access to lots of lovely places - Bath, Salisbury, Stonehenge, Stourhead, Jurassic Coast. Bed made up with 100% Egyptian cotton linen, towels provided. Gas rings, electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine. NB The steps to mezzanine are quite steep. No bath, only a shower. NB There is wifi but being in the country it is not strong enough to download movies etc
  • The barn is a lovely space in a great location and with fabulous facilities. We spent our weekend hiding away from 'Storm Dennis' and the wood burner and full kitchen made all the difference. We'd have no hesitation in recommending to future guests and we'll definitely be returning. Many thanks Cara.

  • A place of ultimate relaxation and switch off. We had a wonderful time at Cara’s barn, and would definitely recommend a visit!

    Joan2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Very quiet location. Chance to spot wildlife if you're interested, e.g. rabbits, birds, deer. Reccomend to bring wellies/boots to enjoy the surrounding fields despite wet weather

    Jarrett2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location. Wonderful barn conversion. Beautifully renovated and with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Would highly recommend.

    Cavell2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn’t recommend the barn highly enough! What a delightful space to get some peace and quiet. It’s beautiful and secluded and basically a perfect base for exploring an awesome corner of England. Make sure to take advantage of the wood burning stove and if you’re into it - the clay pigeon shooting on offer. It’s tricky but so much fun (after all there really aren’t enough places on Airbnb that give you access to a shotgun)

  • We had another fantastic stay in this wonderful cottage. The scenery is outstanding, and Mary-Anne is an amazing host who always balances being warm and welcoming with giving guests their privacy. This is the perfect place to get away from it all and relax and unwind, and we hope to be even more frequent visitors in 2020!

    Caroline2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy modern property with stunning views. So peaceful. Lovely wood burner. Make sure you visit Pythouse Kitchen Garden & Cafe just 10 minutes drive away. Mary-Anne was a great host.

    Graham2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for a short pre-Christmas break with our 2 children and 2 small dogs. The location is stunning and with the open fields right to the back of the property we were perfectly content there for 4 days with lots of walks and 'cosying' up in front of the log burner. Mary-Anne was a great host, making sure we had what we needed, we will definitely be staying here again. Thanks! :)

  • We had a wonderful stay at this cottage. This was our second visit, but this time with 2 adults and 2 kids. The cottage is great. It's set in countryside and gardens with roaming sheep. The bedrooms overlooks the fields and the panoramic views are amazing. The cottage is very well laid out, and ample space for a family of four, with 2 bedrooms a bathroom and an open plan kitchen and Lounge. I couldn't fault this cottage.

    Darren2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely cottage! We were lucky enough to experience some gorgeous crisp clear winter days in order to thoroughly enjoy the setting of this place and it’s incredible views!!! The cottage was an amazing, clean and homely space for three ‘friends of old’ to reconnect in the evenings after Christmas market exploring during the day! Thank you Mary-Anne for all the helpful information and lovely touches provided before and during our stay (and in particular the replenished firewood, which was very much appreciated!!) Highly recommend!

  • Had my own use of the upstairs of Jeni’s bungalow which consists of two bedrooms and a bathroom. The area was accessed via a staircase from the main living area. Jeni was a great host and very flexible with my antisocial check in/out times!

  • Jeni was so welcoming. My stay in the 'attic' was cosy, comfy and clean and quirky! I would recommend it but please be aware it has low ceilings and a spiral staircase.

    Cathy2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • The attic is just lovely and you are very private there. Jeni is very communicative and helpful! Great stay!

    Eva2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • What to say? Because airbnb is peer to peer, must people are quite gentle in their reviews. So it can be quite hard to tell how honest people are being. The reviews for Jeni's place are completely accurate. It's lovely. Cost, clean, everything you'd want and Jeni is, by far, the best Airbnb host I've ever had. She's there for a chat if you want it but not in your face. I felt so comfortable there. Just lovely.

    Christine2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed my stay with Jeni. It was my first experience of an Airbnb, I booked it as a cost effective option close to Parajet where I was doing a 6 day course. Jeni was a great host, she couldn't do enough to make me feel comfortable and welcome. The facilities were perfect, clean and had loads of really nice touches to make my stay a real pleasure. Would love to stay with Jeni again and definitely recommend her as a perfect host! Thanks.

  • Ester’s annexe was perfect for a short stay for my husband and I, with a lovely spacious, really nicely presented main room including comfy bed, sofa and TV with Netflix and Prime. Lovely, spotless bathroom en-suite (only thing I would say to be aware of is that the partition wall doesn’t quite go fully to the ceiling so not 100% private, but fine for us). Also a small en-suite kitchen, perfect for breakfasts and simple dinners (not much preparation space). Would definitely stay again!

    Zoe2019-12-30T00:00:00Z

  • Ester and Kingsley’s annex was a lovely spot to explore both Dorset and Bath from. After a day out and about it was great to know we were coming back to such a comfy and relaxing spot. The annex felt cosy and spacious at the same time. In addition we appreciated having somewhere safe to keep our bikes the days we weren’t riding. We look forward to returning to explore more of Dorset.

  • Great place for couples to stay, peaceful location. nicely furnished, well equipped... great host.

    David2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at millview cottage throughout June for work. Pippa was a wonderful host who helped us out everytime we needed it without fail. The cottage is in a beautiful and quiet place with a beautiful interior and a lovely private garden. The cottage was sparkling clean when I arrived and had all the facilities I needed so that my evenings and weekends could be spent relaxing. The location was ideal for what I needed, the commute was 10-15 minute drive, large supermarkets were about 10 minutes away with a more local supermarket a 2 minute drive away and there was plenty of sightseeing to be done less than an hours drive away on the weekends. I would definitely stay at millview cottage again and would recommend to anyone.

  • The house is lovely and clean. It is a nice room with a comfortable bed. Simon and his wife were welcoming and kind. They went out of their way to help me and were great to talk to. There is a really nice pub opposite them which does food. It is so nice to stay with such open generous people. I was cycling from Bath to Bournemouth and them being able to host me was one of the things which made the trip possible. They also kindly let me store my bike in the house which was much appreciated.

    Amy2019-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • Ideal stopover, great for my bike trip. Welcoming hosts, cosy room and everything I needed. Pub opposite house (The Dolphin) is pleasant for food/drinks and another (The Buffalo) a mile or so away is an alternative for food if The Dolphin isn’t serving food the day(s) you stay.

We are walking distance from the small but vibrant high street of Shaftesbury. The town has monthly markets and a great fringe festival in the summer months.
  • We had a lovely weekend stay here. The space is clean, cosy, and well kitted out for its size. Only one note I would add is the ceilings are quite low so you might find yourself ducking if you're a giant like myself, should be fine for all normal sized people though! Would recommend the place to others.

  • Great value place. The sloped ceiling wasn't really an issue and I am 6ft. Great communication with host. Good kitchen utensils available. Nice stay overall 👍

  • This annex is a little gem in a beautiful setting, tastefully done out and with great hosts -I only saw them when I arrived (inconveniently at very short notice and there was not a word of complaint!!) and they made me very welcome and then left me to it the whole time. Everything you need is on hand and there is beautiful countryside all around you which you can walk to or if you want to drive you can but you don’t need to.

Get back in touch with nature at this luxury cabin nestled in a quiet hamlet. Find tranquility on the terrace surrounded by breathtaking views, or lounge amid thoughtful decor and chic modern finishes in the exposed oak beam interior.
Blue Vale is brand new as of June 2018! We helped to design this green oak framed building and have been involved in the whole process of building it, doing much of it ourselves. For our colour scheme we have used different shades of blue throughout, playing on the name of Blue Vale. The furnishing and finishing touches are of a high standard to help promote a comfortable and luxurious finish. There is an eclectic style combining modern country with industrial finishes. Luxury, high thread cotton bedding and towels, large flat screen smart tv's and luxury Neals Yard toiletries help to give the top-end finishing touches we would appreciate if we stayed away from home.
The glorious Blackmore Vale landscape is a tapestry of farmed green fields with a sprinkling of English villages, of which Sandley is one. Walk out (or cycle, using our available bikes) onto country lanes and venture along a web of footpaths to discover this unspoilt part of Dorset. Visit Stourhead, stroll around the ancient towns of Sherborne or Shaftesbury or discover the beautiful Jurassic coast. Also closeby are Longleat safari park, Haynes Motor Museum, & Yeovilton Air Museum.
  • Great location, lovely accommodation, welcoming hosts, great stay. :)

  • Me and my partner had an absolutely amazing time at Blue Vale. Jayne was an excellent host and could not be more attentive. We were greeted upon arrival, we were informed of the local amenities and restaurants near by. There was such attention to detail. All the art work and décor was stunning and we felt so cosy and at home there. The weather was a little bit miserable but in all honestly it just meant that we could curl up on the sofa and enjoy ourselves. Our trip was for my partners 30th and our first anniversary. We were quite content in just staying indoors and making the most of our time there. You are completely secluded and it is all very private. The view from the open plan windows is amazing, especially in the early hours of the morning and as the evening dawns. You had absolutely anything you needed to not have to venture outside at all if that is what you wished for. With a full kitchen and washing facilities. The bathroom comes fully equipt with a shower and a bath that is so nice to relax in after a long day. Jayne was always available if we needed and checked in everyday just to make sure we were settling in ok and if there was anything we needed we only needed to ask. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are hoping it will not be too long before we return.

    Charlotte2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We just had a lovely stay in Jayne and Dave's cottage. The couple were very friendly and always accomodating. The cottage was warm and cosy with all modern appliances. This particular weekend had been horrible due to bad weather conditions so we couldn't really go outdoors but we didn't mind staying indoors because the cottage made us feel at home. We had a very beautiful and peaceful countryside experience and would definately recommend you staying at this place. Jayne and Dave have certainly put a lot of effort into making their place very inviting and we certainly felt that from minute we arrived.

    Danita2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • I couldn't recommend Jane's beautiful oak airbnb more highly! I booked this as a surprise trip for my partner's birthday and it was so perfect for a relaxing getaway. The quality of the furnishings etc is of the highest standards and there is just no way you cannot relax here. The bed is so comfy and the bathroom is the stuff of dreams, from the giant tub, to the powerful walk-in shower. You can really see the thought and care taken in creating this place and we definitely plan on coming back. Jayne's hosting was second to none and the perfect balance of being available and nearby when needed but also giving you space and not disturbing unless you needed anything. It's a great location to either just relax and enjoy being in the countryside, or to explore the surrounding area - there's so much within under an hour's drive!!You won't regret a stay here!

    Isabelle2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Blue Vale is the most incredible airbnb experience we've ever had, it is very special, from the view, the thoughtful touches to the most welcoming and accommodating hosts, we couldn't fault it! 7* experience! The decor is very beautiful and there is a very warm and cosy feel, the welcome basket with local treats was much appreciated and the bed was so comfy we didn't want to leave it! Everything was of the highest standard, Netflix on the tv was great! Jayne and Dave really have thought of everything and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect, including having a cake ready for my girlfriend's birthday on our arrival. Jayne also recommended some fantastic local restaurants - The Green (a few miles away in Sherborne) serves up a delightful Sunday roast that just melts in your mouth. Our favourite part of the stay was sitting watching the sun set on the gorgeous countryside with a glass of bubbly, we will treasure the memories of our weekend here and can't wait to come back! Oh, and there's also the most luxurious bath you will ever have the pleasure of lying in!

  • Air bnb review This is the first Air bnb I’ve stayed in that has been 150% true to its photos. Honestly the most wonderful and perfect place to stay. We were completely blown away by Blue Vale and it’s gorgeous surroundings. The kitchen/tv area, bathroom and bedroom are all fully equipped and beautifully decorated. The bed is one of the comfiest I’ve slept in (very tempted to buy the mattress) and you have the choice of a huge bath or walk in shower in the bathroom. We arrived to a Hamper of cereal, cider, fresh milk and many other delicious things. Jayne gave us a very warm welcome and made our stay the best it could possibly be - it’s no wonder she is a super host. After a walk we came back to a bottle of Prosecco chilling in the fridge with a lovely Happy New Year card which was so thoughtful. Jayne was incredibly kind and went above and beyond for us - we are already looking to come back over summer! A huge thank you to Jayne and her gorgeous family for being so accommodating. They also have a very very cute dog. Book this place now!!!

    Jake2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is exceptional. It was tastefully and thoughtfully decorated and well fitted with all the modern comforts you would expect from a 5 star property. Above all. Jayne was warm and welcoming and went above and beyond to make this a memorable stay.

    Sharon2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Jayne's place was a pure delight for us. She is a fantastic host that we met in person and a warm communicative. We will be more than happy to come back to have another break and enjoy the country side. We were also very surprised of the great quality of pubs and farm shop around this place. In other words, we enjoyed 4 perfect days and felling at home. We highly recommend this place!

  • We loved our stay at Davina and Carl's place in Mere. It is very sweet and comfy and we didn't want to leave! Mere is a great little town with lovely countryside round about and we hope to come back later in the year with more sun and less rain. But when it was stormy outside it was lovely to get cosy with the woodstove and we and our two dogs felt very much at home. Davina and Carl are great hosts: always on hand if needed and very helpful and welcoming. Highly recommended.

Bill and Fiona converted the barn, which was originally part of the Grosvenor Estate, some twenty years ago. Nestled on the northern slopes of Shaftesbury, it is ideal for a short stay to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding Dorset/Wiltshire countryside. The guest room is located on the ground floor and accessed by a private entrance. A parking space is available in the courtyard.
The guest room has a small area for preparing food with a microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge, china, glasses and cutlery. Please note that it does not have a full cooker or washing up facilities. Fiona and Bill are very happy to put these items in their dishwasher for you. Tea and coffee supplied along with complimentary selection of cereals, bread, milk, butter and marmalade. The bathroom has a good sized shower supplied with a selection of toiletries and towels. The king size bed is made by Hypnos and is firm. For those with allergies or who are nervous of animals we do have two large and one small dog. They are in a separate part of the house and are not allowed in the guest room or the courtyard. They may however bark on your arrival as they like to say hello and tell us that you are here!
Shaftesbury is an Anglo-Saxon hilltop down famous for Gold Hill (where the original Hovis advert was filmed), there is also the ruins of an abbey founded by Alfred the Great and a small museum, along with a good selection of cafes. Nearby is Stourhead (National Trust), Wardour Castle (English Heritage) and other places of interest.

  • Fiona's place is truly wonderful. My husband and I stayed for 2 nights and it was a spotlessly clean, beautifully designed space. The bed is super comfy and everything you could possibly need is provided, including bread, butter, jam and cereals and milk and plenty of tea and coffee. There is a lovely kitchen area behind cabinet doors which includes a kettle, toaste, microwave and fridge which was more than adequate. The guest suite is attached to Fiona's barn, about 10 minutes walk from the centre of Shaftesbury in a lovely quiet spot. Fiona was very responsive to all our enquiries and very flexible with check in times and even was kind enough to drop us to the train station on our departure day. Thank you Fiona for such a wonderful restful couple of days away!

    Lisa2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful room with everything that you need including kettle, fridge and microwave with a selection of teas, coffee and breakfast foods. Fiona and her husband were very charming. Thoroughly recommend a stay.

  • Attention to detail and a genuinely welcoming host. Parking space was right outside the airbnb, which was such a relief. Appreciated the fresh local bread and well stocked fridge. It was lovely to return home to warm radiators, when the weather turned suddenly cold. A very special stay for me and my daughter.

    Tracy2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona and Bill went much further than the 'extra mile' to accommodate my elderly parents - the room is easy access for a wheelchair user and the 2 night stay went really well and they both felt relaxed and comfortable. Definitely 5 stars in all categories !

  • What a great place! It’s spacious and has loads of character, and has to be one of the nicest places I stayed using Air B&B. The Hosts are very friendly and helpful. The addition of breakfast items is a real bonus, as is also the good WiFi signal. Plus there is a small garden area and parking on site too. The shower was great and the bed very comfortable. Thoroughly recommending this place to anyone needing a stylish place to stay when visiting Dorset.

  • We had a lovely stay despite the bad weather. Very comfortable, has all the essentials and some nice little extra touches. Whole place was immaculately clean. 100% reccomend and stay again.

  • Pauline firstly has great communication. She was always super fast to respond to my queries and messages. She was always in touch to check we were still on track to come and settled in. We enjoyed our stay in Meadow views despite it being the windy weekend of Storm Dennis. Our boiler acted up on our visit but Pauline was nothing but helpful and assisted us in getting it back on. This place is great, clean and can definitely recommend having a great priced home to yourself.

  • If you’re looking for a perfect place to stay in a superb location then look no further than The Annex in Shaftesbury. Ruth and Dennis have equipped The Annex to an extremely high standard. It was a pleasure to come home after a day’s exploring and relax in the comfortable, quiet and spacious accommodation. They provided milk , tea, coffee and biscuits to get us started .. and a beautifully wrapped box of chocolates for my birthday. A lovely touch! The Annex is an easy walk into Shaftesbury with its famous Gold Hill. Check out the Shaftesbury Arts Centre for a variety of entertainment. Only a short drive is Sherborne... what a town! ... and of course the Dorset coast. We will certainly visit again. Thank you Ruth and Dennis.

A charming, one-bedroom, semi-detached cottage in a lovely peaceful setting with far-reaching views over beautiful countryside. Swallows End offers a relaxing hideaway for both business and holiday travellers. A short distance from both the A303 and Gillingham Station, which provide links to the West Country and London. The National Trust property, Stourhead is very close and for walkers, the Monarch's Way runs through the adjacent fields. Well situated for both Longleat and Bath.
The cottage has its own entrance which leads into a small hallway, where there are hooks to hang coats and space for wellies etc. Leading from the hall is a large, bright open-plan space divided into kitchen, dining and sitting areas. The kitchen is well equipped and has a door, which leads outside to a shared garden with sitting area and lawn. The bedroom has a king-size bed with white Egyptian sheets, a luxurious throw for those chilly nights and pleasing views of the surrounding countryside.

  • Beautiful house and very welcoming hostess and family. Lovely spacious bedroom and bathroom; great views of open countryside and amazing sunset. Convenient easy access to the A303 and although close to a B road, our room was very quiet and we didn't hear any traffic during the night. The kitchenette right outside our door was very convenient and Madeleine stocked up the fridge for us with fresh eggs, bread, milk, orange juice etc. We'd happilly recommend.

    Clare2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Located near the A303 near Mere. Downstairs bedroom with en-suite. Comfy room. Peaceful location. Useful kitchenette next to the bedroom. Cereal, juice, bread, eggs and bacon provided for DIY breakfast. House is vast and interesting. We were given great advice about where to eat locally and had a very good meal in The White Lion. No issues

The house is incredibly beautiful and charming. It’s a great base to explore Shaftesbury and the surrounding area. I highly recommend it.

  • Sue is a wonderful host, warm, friendly and very welcoming. Sue’s cottage is quaint, comfortable and ideally located for wandering in Shaftesbury and enjoying walks in the local area. Communication from Sue was great prior to our arrival and it really did seem that nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed a delicious continental breakfast to set us up for a day of walking and really enjoyed visiting a local art gallery that Sue had suggested & lunch in a nearby pub. It was great to stay with someone who has been a local for a long time and could give us really useful tips for our short stay.

  • If you are looking for a charming place to stay in a village at the heart of the peaceful countryside look no further, this is the spot for you. A lovely personality, Sarah is a wonderfully kind and considerate host, someone who clearly enjoys meeting new people, and goes that extra mile to ensure guest comfort and satisfaction. The accommodations are delightfully cosy in a warm, beautifully decorated charming cottage - with quite a fascinating history of its own, incidentally(!); the bed super comfy, the dog friendly atmosphere relaxing & congenial. Indeed, I can wholeheartedly recommend her home to fellow visitors looking for somewhere quiet to unwind, and happily anticipate staying at her place again on my next trip to Hardy country.

The Little Mill is in the Courtyard of our house, The Old Mill House, where we live in the peaceful, pretty rural village of Pen Selwood. You will be staying in a newly created, very comfortable, spacious bedroom with a king size bed, large wall mounted smart-TV, wifi and a modern en-suite shower room. There is a fridge and a selection of teas and gold blend coffee and freshly ground coffee and two cafetieres await you along with fresh milk, croissants, jam, butter and chocolate brioche.
We have many local attractions and points of interest to visit in the vicinity. Bruton and the famous Hauser & Wirth gallery and restaurant are a 15 minute drive. Stour head house and gardens is only a four minute drive as is Alfreds Tower. The Newt which has recently opened is superb. The most beautiful gardens with a very pretty place to have coffee under the trees and a fantastic restaurant...little nibbles or a full lunch menu. The Newt is about 15 minutes away and has a wonderful gift shop and a cheese shop too! The wonderful historic market towns of Sherborne and Frome are each a 25 minute drive. Wincanton Racecourse is just 10 away where there is a 9 hole golf course. The White Lion pub in Bourton is only a minute's drive or a ten minute walk as is The Bell and Crown in Zeals , so both within very easy reach for pub lunch or supper. You will be able to sample many wonderful walks locally. There are footpaths 20 yards from The Little Mill and we will be very happy to chat directions through with you. Longleat and Safari Park is a 25 minute drive.
  • My partner and I enjoyed a wonderful two night stay in the Tiny house, with great pub recommendations and brilliant hospitality. It was sparkling clean with lovely little touches. My favourite was the fresh lavender. It is only a short drive to Stourhead National Trust Park along with many footpaths and great local pubs! The perfect location for a romantic getaway.

  • We booked a last minute overnight stay. Jilly was incredibly quick with her responses and met with us on our arrival. She provided local knowledge including a tip of the White Lion Pub, which after a long drive was much appreciated. The place was clean and fresh and we loved all the personal touches, the artwork and blinds were so cute. Also a great selection of books to read if you had a longer stay. The added bonus of the continental breakfast was helpful, with a speedy check out so we were able to continue our journey. Thank you again Jilly, we will be back!

  • What an amazing place! We had such an amazing stay. Jilly was just a good host and the cottage was beautiful. We found it to be really good value for money and it was situated in a beautiful area. We can no fault this air B&B.

  • Lovely accomodation, in beautiful setting. Narrow road access but given there is so little passing traffic I didn't meet anything in the opposite direction.

My cottage is tucked away within walking distance of the centre of Shaftesbury in Dorset. It's near the site of the historic Shaftesbury Abbey, Park Walk with it’s views over the rolling Dorset countryside, Gold Hill - made famous by the much loved 1970s Hovis Bread TV commercial - and the hospital. The cottage makes an excellent base from which to explore the borders of beautiful Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset, where the countryside, walking, cycling and dining out opportunities are fantastic.
Great for couples, friends, colleagues, individual travellers or for a small family. The space is a characterful little cottage that comprises a double bedroom upstairs with ensuite facilities, plus a cosy single bedroom at ground level that has ensuite facilities too. The single bedroom leads off the kitchen, it’s really quite small, and is all the better for it! In the double bedroom, there is just enough space to set-up a travel cot as well. Each ensuite has an electric shower and toilet, I must stress that the cottage does not have baths. A cosy living room with underfloor heating and a log burner plus a bright kitchen complete the piece. Facilities include an oven, hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and washer / dryer. There is a small freezer compartment in the fridge plus a range of cooking implements, crockery and glasses. A Smart TV with terrestrial channels and wifi broadband connectivity allow you to keep in touch with the outside world. A parking space is available at the cottage and it’s perfect for cars. Large vehicles, such as camper vans, will need to be parked in a pay-and-display public car park which is near the town centre and within walking distance - this is as the lane to the cottage is narrow with a few bends. Finally, a few words of caution… the cottage is cosy and has low ceilings in some areas, so taller guests will need to bear this in mind. Those over 6ft / 1800mm will need to stoop (or adopt suitable protective measures!). Please also check out the cottage Instagram account @twolovelaneshaftesbury to get a feel for the cottage atmosphere :-)
Guests enjoy a quiet location tucked in amongst other cottages in a conservation area with town centre amenities which are within a short, level walk. Great cafés, restaurants and public houses are close by and the town hosts events throughout the year, including markets and festivals for both food and arts.
  • Cosy and quaint cottage in a great location. Leah is a fantastic host and would thoroughly recommend. We’re already planning a return trip.

  • Five Stars do not come near the actual experience of this truly special and idyllic sanctuary in the middle of Shaftesbury. Leah is an exceptional hostess and everyone who come here have treats galore (at every level) in store. Thank you for everything and fingers crossed I shall return before too long.

    Marianne2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely fantastic little cottage, thoughtfully furnished with wonderful little luxuries like underfloor heating and local dairy products/baked goods. Leah was always prompt in her replies and all the home instructions were clear. Excellent base to explore the area, we’ll be back!

    Shelly2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Basically- Leah’s place is a dream fairy cottage. Such a cute home, so fabulously located- I fully recommend this fantastic place as a weekend break. Leah is a brilliant host, great communication and such a thoughtful person... milk and breakfast things were all left for us. Shaftesbury is a lovely place that you’ve probably never visited but now this cottage gives you reason to go

  • Just returned from a perfect weekend at 2 Love Lane. From the time of booking until arrival Leah communicated very well, and the cottage was more than we hoped! Fresh bread, milk, eggs and Dorset apple cake on arrival. A jug of narcissi, beautiful Neals Yard toiletries, a fire ready to light, and the comfiest bed! This cottage is a hidden gem, peaceful, so quiet, with views to die for. A very short stroll in to town, where you’ll find bars and restaurants and the gorgeous Botanical candle company, to pick up a little treat! Golds Hill is literally just around the corner, the place to work off the cake! Leah has thought of everything, local information and guides, beautiful books, current magazines and if you have children, all the toys and books they could ever want.....there really isn’t any need to leave the cottage. Thank you Leah for a perfect weekend away from it all, we will be back xxxxx

  • This is a truly magical cottage. Cosy is a great description for it - ideal for a couple. It is lovingly and thoughtfully furnished and equipped to the very highest standard with everything you could possibly need to ensure you focus your stay on relaxing and enjoying the area! Leah was an outstanding host asking us what we needed before we arrived - local milk, eggs, bread and other goodies to make us feel truly welcome! The bed was very comfortable, and there were many, many small touches I have never before seen from an AirBnB host. She had even set the fabulous log fire for us to light on arrival! We loved it and hope to return later this year! Well done Leah.

  • Beautiful, cosy, tastefully furnished and clean little cottage, very close to the town centre and Gold Hill. We stayed five nights over the Christmas period and Leah, our host, had added so many extra touches such as a Christmas tree and decorations, a hamper and local produce, to make everything feel very festive. The bed was comfortable and the quiet location ensured a great nights sleep. There are lovely walks on the doorstep, with beautiful views. The town can be easily reached by foot in 5/10 minutes with a good variety of shops, cafes and pubs. We would love to visit Shaftesbury again and would definitely stay at Leah's cottage.

COVID-19 - Free use for NHS staff The Yellow House is a delightful slice of history. Nestled within the heart of the Saxon old town of Shaftesbury, this bright and charming grade II listed 1 bedroom cottage offers a home to all. On the boarder between the Blackmore Vale and Cranbourne Chase, Shaftesbury is a perfect springboard into the depths of Dorset woods and Wiltshire's Nadder valley. The cottage offers basic amenities including teas, coffees, and milk on the day of arrival. Henry
The house would perfectly suit a couple. There are two woodburners with plenty of wood in the small garden that can be used, or central heating if preferred. Be aware there are lots of original features including low beams, chalk painted walls and lime render. Therefore please do not expect a pristine decor :) clean and characterful is more the look. The oak wardrobe in the bedroom provides ample storage for clothing, with another cupboard beneath the stairs for coats and bags. There is a shower and a bath, feel free to use the candles, lotions and potions displayed. You can bring pets, (as long as they don't have sharp claws :) as I just fitted solid oak flooring downstairs.
Shaftesbury is a wonderful quaint Saxon hiltop town. Teeming with history, the remains of the abbey, Gold Hill and the the Town Hall are a definitely worth a visit. There so many fantastic places to walk, run or climb. Whether it be around the local area or on the Dorset coast. Please feel free to ask for some suggestions! • A delightful cottage right in the heart of Shaftesbury. We had so much fun and Angie was the most welcoming host. After we had checked out, we realised we had forgotten something and Angie was so helpful in sorting it out for us. Couldn’t fault the stay. Thank you!

  • We had a lovely stay in Dorset and loved the quirkiness of this property. Henry was very easy to deal with and quick to respond. Worth mentioning that we were staying at a cold time of year and the property stayed nice and warm for us. Recommend the Ship just around the corner for a drink.

    Fergus2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Henry and Angie for a wonderful stay! It was such a delightfully cosy and interesting place to stay. The life contained within your cottage oozes from every artefact, it was a welcoming place to snuggle down with the woof after a long day walking. You will not stay anywhere with more character and charm!

    Elizabeth2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Angie was a brilliant host. Showed us where everything was in the property and was more than happy for us to contact her during our stay should we had needed to. Location is right in the centre of Shaftesbury. Will definitely be staying again! Thanks

  • Authentic English cottage with a lovely fireplace, very close to the centre of Shaftesbury. Very friendly and hospitable hosts.

  • Henry’s cottage is great! Just as cute as the photos! Cosy, great bath, lots of books to read, plenty of wood for the roaring log burners! We loved it :) It was clean, with several thoughtful touches to make it easier for guests... Milk, butter, tea, coffee, etc etc. We had such a great welcome by Angie too. She explained everything really clearly, was helpful and had thought out particular places for us to visit/eat at for our anniversary. Shaftesbury is so beautiful too. We had a great time!

    Annie2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect for a peaceful and relaxing retreat. Beautiful cottage with a selection of books most libraries would be envious of!
