Best bars in Garden District, New Orleans

Southern / Soul Food Restaurant

“Perhaps the most famous New Orleans restaurant, Commander’s continues to be a local favorite when there’s a cause for celebration. Not only will you enjoy impeccably prepared Creole classics, the ambience and excellent wait service elevate the entire experience into something really special. It’s not cheap and it is out of the way from main attractions, but keep it in mind you have the resources and want that special experience. Favorites include the gumbo and bread pudding soufflé! ”

“Large sportsbar and ground zero for St Patrick's Day celebrations Uptown. Full bar and decent beer selection. Kitchen. In season, don't miss the crawfish truck parked outside and the raw oyster shucker out front. Trivia: the sign & name was borrowed from a previous 1930's bar in same location. Current operator Jeff had the sign in his shed and finally got to restore and hang it when he had the opportunity to lease the space. ”

“Iconic Irish Channel watering hole, been there for decades. Finally acquired by an Irishman in the 20th century (RIP, John). Friendly staff and clientele, dive bar atmosphere, popular with an inky motor scooter crowd. Good beer and Irish Whiskey. Kitchen better than it has been in decades, serves a quintessential roast beef poor boy. Don't miss the Irish Sundae (beef debris on potatoe salad) and firecracker swimps.”
