Just booked in Freestone

Shangrila has gotten even better. We have a fire table on the deck that is great to watch & to keep you warm on chilly nites. Also, my son, Gino, & his sweet dog, Frida, are cohosting with me. Frida is never allowed in the guest room. The delightful Occidental Bohemian Farmers Market continues Fri. evenings till the end of Oct. T If you long to get your hands dirty, but don't have a garden, we'll share ours. There's always something to do!
Your spacious room overlooks a redwood forest with a meadow & wooded hills beyond. You may think you want to visit Sonoma County vineyards, beaches, or the Russian River, but once you're here, you may not want to leave. The room is quiet. You have your own bathroom called "The Mexi" because of Mexican tiles & mementos of travels in that country. There is safe, off street parking. You are within walking distance of the picturesque village of Occidental where there are good restaurants, gift shops, & tennis courts. People also love to ride bicycles around here even tho the roads are narrow, curvy, & steep. We are early risers & will have coffee ready by 7:00 with a gourmet continental breakfast including home pressed organic apple juice, homegrown organic seasonal fruits, homemade jam & special sweets. We are well situated as a stopover, but we could also be a destination. We have lawn Bocce ball & horse shoes. For rest after those exertions, there are hammocks in the redwoods. There is such good bird watching here that the local Audubon stops here during their Xmas bird count. When the weather isn't conducive to outside time, there is a fireplace in the living room. We love to share this beautiful place. Come on over!
  • This was a rustic home but clean. The beds are only twins but very comfortable. This home is not far from the Cal Fire station and we were awoken around 12:30 a.m. by the siren which we had no idea what the siren was for until the next morning. Apparently, it was the call out for the volunteers. Mary also had fresh pressed apple cider for us in the am that came from her trees.

  • Mary made us feel very welcome in her lovely home and we enjoyed getting to know her over the six days that we stayed there. She was friendly and accessible but not in the least intrusive. She was very accommodating of our schedule and responsive to our needs. Her home is located at the end of the street in a quiet, wooded neighborhood. We would thoroughly enjoy staying there again!

  • My husband and I spent two nights at Shangrila. During that time Mary made us feel welcome and comfortable without being intrusive. Her living room and fireplace were open to us; she made a special breakfast based on food preferences. She's a good source of info about the area. As for her home, it's as promised....located in a wooded grove In a quiet neighborhood, but close to a good restaurant. Beds are very comfortable. We enjoyed the art work and photography very much. We give Mary a 5 star rating, and we'll certainly return to her B and B. Highly recommended.

  • The property is in the countryside and a little tricky to find at night. We called Mary and she guided us to the well-lit entrance. She met us at the door, showed us around and let us be on our own. Our room had a private hallway that connect with a private bath. Very quite. The clear skies and moonlight lit the redwood forest outside our window—even more beautiful in the morning sun. Mary had coffee and a light continental breakfast ready for us in the morning and we had a lovely conversation. Only downside: twin beds. Otherwise, it was very comfortable. I'd love to take some downtime and spend a few days.

  • I stayed for a night with my partner and Mary made us feel really welcome. The room and bathroom were very private and the view of the redwoods was perfect. Her house has beautiful photographs throughout and the property was really dreamy. In the morning she left out some fresh pressed apple juice, coffee, fruit, and bread. We ate our delicious breakfast out on the deck surrounded by the trees. She gave us good advice about where to eat in town and the route for a nice walk. I highly recommend staying at Mary's shangri-la in the redwoods.

  • This place is great. Mary and Gene were gracious hosts, the accommodations are clean, comfortable, and inviting, and the scenery is superb. Occidental is great little town tucked in the woods and they are 20 minute scenic drive to the coast. Just wished we could have stayed longer.

    Jill2013-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Mary had a gorgeous and quaint home in the middle of the redwoods. The room was just what we needed after spending a day at Russian River. She was able to accommodate us arriving late and leaving early, and she also prepared some breakfast goodies for us. I would recommend arriving pre-sunset, as it was a bit tricky to find late at night, but it was totally worth it.

    AJ2014-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • My fiancé and I stayed here for one night on a tour of CA. The room was comfortable for us, especially the beds themselves! Mary and her son welcomed us upon arrival and were very friendly. We enjoyed relaxing in the hammock in the red woods. It was a quick drive to downtown Occidental which we agreed was adorable and a must visit. We were not there long but I would recommend to stay there if you pass though Occidental.

Come stay in the land of Xmas tree farms! Enjoy Sonoma county, go wine tasting and leave with a freshly cut tree! Stay in your own private wine country cottage with own kitchen, bathroom and yard and garden on a small, family farm. This cottage has been featured in various tv shows including "Tiny House Nation" and "Tiny House Hunters".
Your own wine country cottage with its own bath and kitchen located on a small farm. The cottage is private, but we are available to answer any questions. The cottage has it's own yard and garden. The parking is right outside the cottage with no trails or steps to get to it. The cottage overlooks the farm and a eucalyptus grove. You may see our mini-horse "Comanche", chickens, a sheep or two meander by on the other side of the fence. The cottage is fully insulated for even temperature. It is bright, private, modern rustic with open ceilings and a Vermont Castings vented gas fireplace. A flick of the switch and "voila" a beautiful, warm fire in the hearth. The bathroom has a glass shower, no tub. There is a queen-sized bed with the most comfortable mattress imaginable. There is also full-size organic wool and cotton coil futon sofa that sleeps two. We provide only the highest quality cotton towels and bedding. The guests really appreciate it. And, you can cook there. We have 2 burner stove and small convection oven, lots of pots, pans, etc. We'd be happy to share our farm fresh eggs with you. They're so much better than store bought! The guests have exclusive use of a private yard, with seating. There is a small garden attached where they can help themselves to strawberries, greens for a salad or whatever else may be in season. While we have dogs, cats and farm animals on the property no animals are allowed in the cottage. Guests may not bring pets either. This ensures the cottage stays clean and allergen-free. We interact with guests as much as necessary for the guests. We assume people like their privacy, but we also love to meet people and show them around the farm if interested. We tend to let the guests determine how much interaction they want with us. We know the area well and are available to answer any questions. We also love to share our farm fresh goodies, like fresh eggs, veggies or fruit from our trees. Our farm is located in the Twin Hills area of Sebastopol. This desirable area is known for its rolling hills, apple orchards, Christmas Tree Farms, and vineyards. There are many beautiful walks to take right out the door. While you may feel far away from it all, downtown is less than a ten minute drive, and door to door we are twenty minutes to the beaches of Bodega Bay taking beautiful back roads right from our neighborhood. There are three main wine tasting routes nearby. For chardonnays and pinot noirs you can stay right in our appellation, the Russian River Valley, and Olivet Road to River Rd. Healdsburg is Dry Creek and Alexander Valley for merlots, zinfandels and cabernet sauvignon. All of these and more are nearby. Right in Sebastopol there is Iron Horse Vineyards, Lynmar, Balletto, Russian River Vineyards, Dutton Family Wines and many more. You will need a car to get around as there is no public transportation in our rural neighborhood. There is such a variety of things to do in our area. Sebastopol is famous for its award winning wineries, restaurants and antique shops. It also has an artsy bohemian feel, and many are dedicated to the slow food movement. Neighbors regularly trade their bounties with each other, such as milk, honey, eggs and veggies. There is also the beaches and cliffs of Bodega Bay (we provide beach chairs, towels, cooler, etc. upon request), and great swimming and picnicking at the Russian River. You can hike through beautiful redwoods at Armstrong Woods. And of course visit countless wineries and gourmet restaurants. We can fill you in on our favorite spots.

  • My wife and I stayed at Mary's cottage in December. The few emails that I did send to Mary were quickly answered - very good communication. We didn't arrive until 11:00pm (original plan was 8:30) but when we finally got there everything was exactly as the pictures indicated. The place was meticulous. Mary left the heater on so that when we arrived the place was very comfortable - I think the outside temp got down to below 40 that night. She also left some "goodies" for us which were very well received. We weren't there too long as we wanted to get up early in the morning to explore the wine country. Overall, the cottage was everything we needed. The surrounding area was very peaceful, very quiet. We will be back in the future.

  • Mary's cottage was adorable, very cosy, and really comfortable. She and her husband welcomed us when we arrived, and gave us a quick tour of the farm. Horses, goats, etc. Really bucolic. They also left us a delicious fresh goat cheese to enjoy with honey and jam. Perfect welcome package! Mary's cottage is the perfect getaway weekend if you are looking for peace and quiet, as well as a whimsical farm.

  • We had a perfect stay at Mary's farm guesthouse. She was extremely accommodating when we needed to modify our existing reservation and quick to respond to any message. The bed and futon were extremely comfortable, with ample linens for my husband and I and our three small children. The house was well equipped with anything we could have needed, clean and very well decorated! My children loved petting the baby goats and checking out all of the farm animals. All in all, exactly what we had hoped for. Thank you Mary! We highly recommend:)

  • The cottage was fantastic! Everything we could have needed, great location and some lovely goodies and a bottle of wine waiting for us upon arrival. Mary was really great and easy to work with. We would definitely stay in this quaint and homey cottage again!

  • Mary's cottage is impeccably clean and beautifully decorated with great attention for detail and design. The amenities are very comfortable and include anything you might possibly need from board games to toiletries to kitchen appliances. It is located a short drive from the shops and restaurants of Sebastopol on a well kept farm with adorable curious animals. There is a pillow top queen mattress with 3 different pillow firmness options making for a comfortable night's sleep. Mary was a great hostess, she responded promptly with information and travel suggestions which we greatly appreciated. We had a delightful stay at Mary's Wine Country Cottage and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to explore this fertile area of California.

    Cathy2016-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was perfect for a weekend getaway. Close to Armstrong Forest to hike and see some redwoods, as well as near Bodega Bay for great seafood. Everything was clean and tidy in the cottage, exactly as described.

    Kevin2016-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at this little cottage. My daughter enjoyed the swing set outside an well as watching the horses and other animals around the property. It was a very kid friendly place. We used the futon for sleeping as well as the bed and we all had plenty of space. Its just a short drive into town along some beautiful country roads and not far from Bodega Bay either so there was lots of opportunity for exploration. Mary and her family were all very helpful and we enjoyed chatting with them a few times. A great place to stay while exploring the area!

    Brooke2016-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • Our experience was wonderful. We arrived late in the afternoon on our first day. Everything was clean and tidy. Mary offered a great list of cottage amenities including comfy sheets, quality towels and a practical pair of beach chairs. I honestly had nothing to put in the suggestion box to help improve the place.

A rustic, cozy cottage nestled in the majestic redwoods of Sonoma county makes the perfect weekend getaway or month retreat. Relax in 2 acres of landscaped garden or drive to convenient restaurants, the ocean, or San Francisco.
This is perfect for the person/persons who love nature. It is a cozy converted chicken coop with an added deck and outdoor shower. The fridge, microwave and hot plate make it easy to stay in although the adorable town of Occidental with its delicious restaurants are fun.
This is a no through road so it is very quiet. And even though the houses are far apart, the neighbors are close and watch out for each other. There is a beautiful walking path available to the neighborhood.
  • The surroundings are all so beautiful and silent. We recommend arriving during daylight

  • Even more beautiful than the pictures show. Josephine is a gracious host. So many quiet spaces to relax and enjoy. We will make a point to return and see what new amazing details she adds, so much to love about this place. Truly grateful for the opportunity to stay here.

    Allison2016-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • A secret garden for grown-ups, the relaxation effect envelopes you immediately. I want to come back... now!

    Shannon2017-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • This place was incredible: the yard had endless places to relax and enjoy the forest, and it was so beautiful. The cottage was cozy and a perfect size, there was an amazing sauna, hot tub, and places to have fires. Everything was so nice and Josephine is so welcoming. There was an amazing workout room with a yoga swing and the place is a short trip from town. You don't really need to leave though as she has everything you may need for a few days and it felt luxurious just to stay in the beautiful forest all day. Overall, nothing could have been better. She is truly amazing !

    Isabella2017-03-29T00:00:00Z
  • Hmmm... where to start!? What hasn't already said in earlier reviews? It's simple, this place is special. Josephine clearly takes pride in her space and is truly happy to share it with good folks. My wife, pup, and I had a great time while relaxing and taking in the natural beauty only then to fall in love with the northern coast all over again. Each day for four full days we were able to get out and find many lovely spots to further take in nature, explore, and of course feast on amazing Californian produce, meats, and wines! There should be no hesitation on booking this place for a few days. Slow down and take it all in!

    Lyn2017-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Spending the weekend here was really quite magical. a simple rustic cabin getaway was exactly what I wanted. The room is perfectly comfortable with a fireplace and skylights, there is a TV for DVDs but we had no need for it. We took several walks through the redwoods discovering all the sweet hidden gems (a labyrinth, Japanese garden, silver Phoenix sculpture, fairy circle, wishing well and swing) not to mention the numerous hidden benches and hammocks. We also thoroughly enjoyed the sauna and hot tub. In the evening we cooked a meal on the hot plate and we were visited by a little red fox who even let me feed him out of my hand. In the mornings we sat on the rocking chairs watching the sunrise or eating breakfast on the deck. I would definitely return!

    Mike2016-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • Josephine was a wonderful host. She greeted us with a fire and walked us around her stunning garden despite out late arrival. The space is amazing and plant lovers will be in awe.

    Jessie2016-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • We instantly loved Josephine's place. Gorgeous setting in the Redwoods, cozy and welcoming living space. We really enjoyed the wood burning stove and the futon was shockingly comfortable to sleep in. Both nights we stayed I fell asleep in mere minutes from being so relaxed in the peaceful and quiet environment. Josephine herself is a lovely and gracious host. She gave us a tour of her beautiful grounds and good advice on hiking and where to eat. We felt very at home and welcome. We would most definitely return next time we come to the area. A gem in the woods!

  • We had such a wonderful visit at Karen and Eddie's beautiful Sebastapol home. Everything was very tidy and organized for our arrival, including chocolates on the bed and towels laid out in every room. Although the hosts were not in town and unable to meet us at the house, it was easy to quickly become acclimated. The property is beautiful, very quiet and peaceful. We did not have a chance to use the hot tub but it would have been wonderful I am sure! The kitchen is well stocked with lots of cooking equipment and we enjoyed cooking and eating together. Everything was just as promised, including the beautiful gardens! We loved playing as well with Gypsy, the sweetest Golden Retriever. We will definitely return if we are ever in the area again. Thank you Karen and Eddie!

    Kate2015-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Karen & Eddie made us feel incredibly welcome! The home was light & spacious, and we had everything we needed to make meals at home. When it got chilly at night, we had the fireplace going and it made the house feel extra cozy. It's a great place for friends or family. We had our dog with us and he loved the backyard! At the recommendation of our hosts, we checked out Graton Ridge Cellars and loved it. The weather was perfect and we played bocce outside. We highly recommend this house for anyone who wants a sweet weekend getaway.

  • We had a great time at Karen and Eddie's home in Sebastopol. The kitchen was well stocked for making a nice meal, the gardens and view from the back porch were lovely, and the hot tub was a special treat. Karen was very responsive and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the area.

    Anne2015-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • This home and its luscious grounds made for a magical retreat for our family! It had all the comforts of home, plenty of space and had such a clean and sacred vibe. The gardens, trees, and grounds were also lovely. The kids had a blast playing with the chickens and gathering fresh veggies and herbs from the gardens. We loved cooking in the spacious kitchen and sharing meals and games in the huge living room space. The hot tub was divine and surrounded by bird songs both at sunset and sunrise...and the stars at night were heavenly too. We will definitely stay there again when we visit our CA family. It was secluded yet close to town and very convenient from Oakland airport.

    Gabriela2013-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful house. My friends and I were having a wonderful night in here. Karen and Eddie are nice and they prepare everything we need during our vacation. They are really responsible for their guest. Love this place!

    ChanPong2015-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful home!! The views astounding, everything was so clean and bright. It was very homey, Karen and Eddie felt like kindred spirits. They were very accommodating especially for the two babies. Lovely land and sweet surroundings.

  • We had a wonderful stay in the Guthmans' beautiful home. With wide open spaces and living areas that let you stretch out and relax, it was the perfect place to relax after a long road trip from San Francisco. Our three-year-old son had the time of his life playing in the garden and befriending the chickens and cats (gently, of course).

  • This house was so cute and perfect for our long weekend getaway. There was a lot of thought that went into the decor and the house had everything we needed. We very much enjoyed having our morning coffee by the pond, and being able to see all of the starts at night! This place is lovely and Mary Ann was so helpful with directions and instructions. A wonderful place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city!

    Kelly2013-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • I can't think of any more delightful and serene place to stay in the area than that of Mary Ann's! We were impressed at the beauty of the surroundings--we sat by the pond for a couple of hours (accompanied by the house's playful Schnauzers!) and just took everything in. This place is the kind that would make the covers of one of those beautiful-home magazines. I'm sure that other guests would love their stay as much as my family and I did. Mary Ann and Pam were gracious hosts, and communicating with them was easy and straightforward.

    Dennis2014-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • What to rave about first? The wonderful, gracious host, the brilliant guest house, the redwood encircled lily pond or the ancient forest stretching up to stars un dimmed by light pollution. So hard to leave! We can't wait to come back.

  • We had a great time in the house! Everything as described! Very quiet, just wonderful!

  • A truly wonderful place to stay. Mary Ann is so welcoming and the barn is fantastic. Beautiful space, fabulous lighting and architectural details, very clean and very comfortable. Quality all around. WiFi and a well equipped kitchen too. Quiet and peaceful with a view over the pond. A superb home away from home to explore the surrounding area.

  • A lovely and cozy place to stay when you want to get away from it all! Tastefully decorated and well-furnished kitchen.

    Debra2012-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a place to relax among the Redwoods then this is your destination. The studio was immaculate and the amenities were perfect. We can't remember a more relaxing stay. It's close to town so you can drive in for a scrumptious dinner or stay in and cook a meal. Mary Ann was a gracious host and we will definitely be back for a return stay.

    Nancy 2013-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I had a wonderful time at Mary Ann's home! At the end of our two day stay, we didn't want to go! We were surrounded by peace and quiet on a beautiful property that had its own pond. The cabin itself is very charming. It's also well maintained, clean, and snug. The kitchen, though small, is very space efficient and well-stocked, and we had a fun time cooking our meals. Mary Ann was very easy to communicate with and although we didn't have the chance to meet, she made us feel so welcome and comfortable in her home.

The cottage is warm, full of light and filled with art. Satellite TV, WiFi, gas fireplaces in the living room and master bedroom. Sunny window seat ideal for reading and birdwatching. Sitting room with daybed (single bed) appropriate for one more guest, but bathroom is off this room so privacy is affected. Fully equipped kitchen. Private outdoor hot tub.
We experience the best of west Sonoma County's two worlds. Casa Ramona is walking distance to excellent restaurants, the best pub in the county, a coop art gallery, antique store and wine tasting. But...if enjoying the natural world appeals...we are located on a rural bike/walk trail, on a no-outlet street and overlooking acres of open bottomland along Atascadero Creek. This means birds (list available on request), spectacular sunsets, lovely vistas and quiet. It's a short drive to the beaches of the spectacular Sonoma County coast, the Russian River, the quaint villages of Occidental, Freestone and Bodega, upscale Healdsburg and many wineries.
  • What a perfect place to stay! Everything at Casa Ramona, beginning with the unique walkway, was so inviting. We really enjoyed our time there. We couldn't have asked for anything more than what was provided. Thank you so much Anna, we hope to stay there again.

  • Anna and Cary are wonderful hosts who have created a very special retreat in this lovely community. As others have noted, they have thought of everything to make your stay special. The basket of fresh eggs from their own chickens, local bread made specially for Casa Ramona, homemade marmalade, and fresh fruit were all delicious. The cottage is so well designed we found ourselves taking photos to help us remember things we'd like to incorporate in our own home some day. The recommendations for enjoying the area we found on Anna's Airbnb site were all spot on, and Anna did a great job of communicating with us before our arrival and during our stay as needed. This is a very comfortable, private, roomy cottage on the grounds of a beautiful garden that you will not want to leave.

    Robert2016-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • Anna's garden cottage was the perfect Sonoma get-away stop. It's in a quiet location with a fantastic garden setting. Although it seems like you're miles away from civilization, the center of Graton is within easy walking distance and you are really in the heart of hundreds of wineries. Anna was the perfect hostess and communicated clearly all the logistical details in advance and followed-up about early check-in on the day of arrival. We will definitely be back for another stay.

  • What can I say that hasn't already been said by previous guests? This was just the escape (from the City) my husband and I were hoping for. Anna (and her husband) were incredibly hospitable and gauged our level of social interaction perfectly. Tucked away in the back of a long stretch of gravel road, the home was as lovely as it seemed in the photos. From the thoughtful welcome basket (that included the best eggs I've ever seen, let alone eaten) and other treats in the refrigerator, to the chickens in their coop and quail running about the yard outside the window, to the small details often overlooked, you felt like you were coming home. Additionally, I lost an earring and, after frantically searching, had to give up hope in ever finding it and head home. But, alas, Anna and/or her husband found it and offered to mail it to me! Luckily, I was still in town and went back to retrieve it. Their hospitality knows no bounds. Our only regret was not having enough time to explore the acre of luscious property that surrounded us. But I'd like to think this won't be our last visit. Truly a fantastic getaway from the hustle and bustle for those seeking it.

  • The sweet Garden Cottage was more than anyone could ask for with its country charm and amazing property. Woken up by the song of the many species of birds on the property was an added bonus! The owners left some sweet welcome trinkets that I will not spoil for the next guests. The beds were super comfortable and everything worked great. Great location and beautiful setting!

  • Anna was delightful and pleasant although I only met her as we were leaving. My wife met her on arrival while I was out cycling. The self-contained home was clean and very efficient. The surrounding garden and hot tub was so peaceful and relaxing that I did not wish to leave. This was the lodging highlight of our trip.

    Bob2016-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • The Sweet Garden Cottage is just that. Anna does not exaggerate - the Cottage is roomy, welcoming and so comfortable. It has everything you need, plus a beautiful garden! We were in the area for a family wedding that we knew would be crazy, the cottage offered us the peace, quiet and refuge we needed from the busy, busy wedding preparations - and a really, really good night's sleep. Did I mention the hot tub, so wonderful after a day on your feet! Anna has clearly worked very hard to make this a very private, relaxing retreat...and it is. Graton is a cute little town with at least two really good restaurants (and probably so much more that I did not have time to find) and it is less than a mile away from the Cottage. There is a walking path right next to the property. The whole area is rolling hills with orchards, vineyards and beautiful countryside, it is just the most relaxing location. Thank you Anna for being a great host! The cottage is wonderful.

  • This is such an amazing spot, at the end of a quiet street with no outlet. The gardens are beautiful, just so relaxing and peaceful. We had wine and cheese on the back patio each night, and finished each evening off with a soak in the hot tub. You really couldn't ask for anything more, it's well appointed, (there are even robes in the closet). The entire cottage was very clean, very comfortable. There are also 3 very good restaurants less then a 10 min walk away. Highly recommend this spot if you are visiting wine country. You won't be disappointed!

Come spend the night on a sustainably farmed goat ranch where I have been making nationally acclaimed goat cheese for 30 years. Enjoy stunning views, fabulous garden, variety of animals. Opt for discounted tour or cheese tasting or package including full breakfast (described in welcome letter).
Set in the historic and peacefully pastoral town of Bodega where Alfred Hitchcock filmed the birds, we are at the top of a hill in a cul-de-sac. We are 10 minutes from the ocean at Bodega Bay.
It is the feel of a very old small Western town, with a town bar serving dinner every night of the week, a country store, a volunteer fire dept., and several charming galleries and antique stores. The dressmaker makes clothing custom fit to match your size and taste.
  • Patty's farm share, while humble was a great experience and Patty and her team are incredibly nice and accommodating. I would recommend this to anyone searching for a unique experience.

  • Beautiful area with the most charming goat herd. Great host, lots of room to spread out for my daughter and me. Cute restaurants and fun things to do in the area.

    Joel2016-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • The location is fantastic - in a beautiful valley and convenient from Hwy 1. We arrived at night and saw lots of wildlife on our approach to the property. It's located up a few rural roads, so try to get directions from Patty a few days before arrival. She asked us to phone for details the day of our arrival which wasn't great as we were driving from Northern California along the coast and knew we wouldn't have much phone signal. Patty had gusts staying while we were there, so we didn't experience her great hospitality that other reviewers have mentioned. Whilst she was there to greet us and show us the apartment, she admitted that she had taken some of the bedding and towels out for her other guests. In reality this meant the sofa bed only had a sheet and two small blankets. It's advertised for 4 guests but to be honest the sofa bed wasn't a comfortable experience and for the price I'd expect a duvet for both beds. It's a farm stay and so the apartment wasn't expected to be sparkling clean - however the whole place could do with a good spring clean (we had to sweep behind the sofa bed ourselves).

  • The goats were so cute! Patti is very informative when it comes to natural healing for the animals. The experience at the farm was very casual and rustic.

  • My friends and I really enjoyed our stay at Patty's farm. We arrived late and left early, but we got to milk the goats with Patty in the morning and she was great at answering questions and was truly welcoming. And fresh made goat cheese and muffins in the morning was great too! Thanks Patty for such a nice stay on our way to Napa :)

    Caitlin2015-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • We truly enjoyed our weekend get-away at Patricia's Bodega Goat Farm/Ranch. The optional tour of this sustainable ranch is well worth it. We enjoyed our cheese tasting experience, also. We bought a pound of cheese to go home with us. Patty is a very intelligent, knowledgeable and personable hostess. We enjoyed our time visiting with her and our room was very comfortable. We were not bothered by a little dust and a few bugs in the room, because we did expect that since this is a farm/ranch!!

    Margaret & Phil2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Patricia's place is basic but perfectly comfortable - she is lovely, and the area is a scenic, quiet getaway. Our kids loved feeding the goats!

  • This is a spectacular and unique location that is perfect for a relaxing couples getaway. Janet is a gracious host, who left us tasty snacks and made several excellent recommendations for local places to visit. The location itself is private and very beautiful with a panoramic view and brand new hot tub.

  • Our 2nd time staying at Janet's and it was fantastic! Janet is great, the accommodations are awesome, and the pool/spa with a view that can't be beat. The town is super close and really fun too. We will be back again!

    Jeff2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment we arrived, Janet made my fiancee and I feel welcome. Prior to our arrival she had even asked what we took our coffee/tea with! Janet even went out of her way to suggest some activities and food spots around the house. The house and the grounds are not to be believed. Despite the wall of windows, we felt totally secluded in our little Sonoma paradise. The space is very modern, but all very cozy and functional. The fireplace was perfection at night before bed. The pool is fantastic, but we particularly enjoyed ending our days in the jacuzzi with a glass of wine. When we were there the lavender (which covers the entire front of the property facing the vineyard) were just blooming, so the scent was all consuming throughout the day which was wonderful. The proximity to San Francisco definitely qualifies this as a spot that we will come back to. Thank you, Janet, for a wonderful stay!

  • This is a wonderful place to stay in Occidental. It looks just like the pictures, maybe even better! Janet is a terrific host with great attention to all the little details that make you feel at home. I had a great experience staying here with my boyfriend and would definitely recommend it!

  • Janet was an amazing and very welcoming host. She was very responsive leading up to our stay and went above and beyond my expectations in preparing her space for us. The pictures do not fully capture how amazing and beautiful this location is. It has incredible views and feels very remote, while town is only a 5-minute drive away. The pool and hot tub add to the overall relaxation and tranquility of the property. While this is a private guest house near the main house, Janet respected our privacy. Other than the initial welcome, we did not see her during our stay. That said, when we did meet her, she was very charming and provided great recommendations of nearby restaurants, bars, and things to do. I would highly recommend this listing, and hope to return very soon!

In the heart of Sonoma's wine and redwood country, we offer a beautiful setting to relax and restore. We are a short walk from the Wildflour Bakery, Osmosis Enzyme Spa, [featured in Sunset magazine], the Artesian Cheese shop and a vegetable farm.
On 44 acres of pasture and redwoods, we offer a lovely, private bedroom, [in its own building], up a short flight of stairs. It has it's own deck overlooking a view of redwoods and fruit trees. The private bathroom and shower are downstairs. It comfortably fits two people. Ten minutes from Bodega Bay, we are located in the heart of the redwoods and wine country! Nearby hiking, biking, water sports, wineries, and fabulous restaurants are a short drive in any direction. Freestone Paradise has just been renovated with "green", in mind. The bed is handmade organic cotton and the building materials are non voc. At this time we are not set up for pets.
Freestone is a quaint, historical, charming spot. Too small to be called a town, it boasts a fabulous bakery, cheese shop, winery, an enzyme spa, and Busy Bee's vegetable farm! We are ten minutes from the ocean, just as close to Occidental and Sebastopol, and twenty minutes from the Russian River. The climate is moderate, but bring layers as the temperature can vary, even in the course of a day! There are art studios, farmers markets, outdoor concerts, and, of course, the diverse countryside. Each nearby town boasts it's own unique flavor. It is a slice of paradise.
  • The one thing that we did not think about enough before we came is that if you are someone like us that gets up a couple of times a night to pee that it can be hard to get back to sleep if you (on a frosty night) have to put on clothes to go outside downstairs. We also felt like the bathroom and bedroom heaters were a little overwhelmed by the low-mid thirties temp. That being said if none of the above applies it is a lovely place to stay. Quiet, beautifully furnished, the deck was quite pleasant when the sun came up and the walk up through the woods to the bench on top of the hill gives stunning 360 views.

    Charles2017-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Melanie is an excellent and welcoming host. Her Freestone guesthouse is beautiful and peaceful. Not only can you enjoy the stars off the back deck, but great attention has been paid to the lighting to relax in full darkness (or) warmly-lit comfort. The bed is extraordinarily comfortable and location is excellent for a drive to the bakery or the bay. There was one minor mechanical issue when I visited--or I would give this all stars--but Melanie acted immediately to resolve. She is a wonderful host.

    Laurie2015-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Melanie is such a great hostess! She is super friendly and checked in with us and gave us an important road traffic heads up! The place is so cool! It's clean and very comfy. She and her boys were super helpful on where to go for food and adventure ideas! We had a blast and will surely return!

    Megs2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Melanie and Troy are terrific hosts. Communication was great, and they have deep knowledge of the area and its history. The setting is idyllic – beautiful surroundings in a partially landscaped and extensive natural setting. I enjoyed wathching the whole family pitching in to care for the grounds, landscaping, and buildings. It's the closest experience I've had to authentic living in the Wine Country, yet the accommodations were lovely, modern, and clean. Though the bathroom was outside and down a few steps, it wasn't inconvenient at all. It simply added to the charm. (Be sure to ask them about the history of the building.) Great experience all around.

    Allison2017-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • We would love to stay at Freestone Paradise again! The property is beautiful, and Melanie (the host) is warm and gracious! She thought of all the little things like coffee, tea, even a some 1/2 & 1/2 and a nice throw to curl up on the deck with for superb stargazing.

    Maude2015-09-20T00:00:00Z

Not only was the property a peaceful and quiet abode, but it was full of charm with antiques and quaint artifacts placed in particular places. We were greeted with farm fresh flowers, sunflower seedlings to plant, and farm fresh eggs in the refrigerator. Everything was clean, comfortable, and relaxing.

Our place is close to downtown Sebastopol, the charming village of Occidental, Bodega bay (town and beach), wine tasting venues, hiking trails. You’ll love our place because of the location, the culture, the natural beauty (with redwood forest close by) and most of all, the amount of energy and care we have put into making our home both cozy and sacred. Everywhere you look there is beauty! . Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers.

  • The house is clean and well kept. The property is very quiet and scenic. Rajyo offered us breakfast and put clean towels, robes, and bed sheets for us. It was a pleasant and comfortable stay. They also have two friendly puppies:)

  • Great experience top to bottom! Just a stones throw from Bodega bay and Sebastopol but in a quiet wooded area. We checked out a couple lovely walking trails starting from the house before unwinding with a soak in the hot tub before bed. We wish we had the time to stay a couple extra days!

    Mike2017-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Rajyo's place was absolutely beautiful and is surrounded by redwood trees. She offered us breakfast and access to the hot tub. It was very clean and towels with chocolates were provided to us. We had our privacy as well. Thanks Rajyo!

Our peaceful hilltop cottage is located in the lovely Sonoma County Wine Country. The 24 acre estate was originally owned by a London Times heiress who turned it into a beautiful garden oasis. She planted rare flowers throughout the property and also collected exotic pheasants. The cottage was originally home to her French 'sweetheart', while she had the larger home next door. We have kept the charming, quaint character of the cottage and added many modernizing updates.
Our cozy 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom cottage has a well-stocked kitchen and a new gas grill on the deck. We offer coffee and tea for our guests. In the living room there is a gas fireplace and sofa bed. The two large decks get plenty of morning sun. There is a private, enclosed outside area (that is pet-friendly). In the bedroom, there is a new pillow-top, queen size bed and a TV. We supply family-friendly movies and boardgames for our guests. The large TV in the family room has plenty of available cable channels.
We are 10 minutes outside the quaint towns of Sebastopol and Occidental and about an hour and a half north of San Francisco. The California coast is only 15 minutes away. There are world-class restaurants and gorgeous wineries all within a half hour from here.
  • This cottage is exactly as advertised! Very quiet and comfortable! Would definitely stay here again!

  • Such great vibes. Great communication. And they really went the extra mile to make me feel at home. Stay here!

  • Staying in a cottage nestled in a stand of old redwoods with gentle filtered light and hummingbirds feeding nearby is what I call a dream. But, it's true. The cottage is large, by cottage standards, has two decks with comfortable outdoor furniture which lead to afternoon naps if you happen to sit down with a good book. Peaceful and relaxing outside and well-appointed inside with beautiful linens, comfy bed, full kitchen with fresh eggs in the frig, wifi, large living room and dining area, and fresh cut flowers scattered throughout. We loved our visit and would love to return.

  • The lodge was cozy and homey which was great to come back to after traveling out to bodega bay and Sonoma. Kristie and Randy were excellent hosts and let us checkout their adorable goats and friendly horses.

  • My second stay at the Hummingbird Hill Cottage in the beautiful Sebastopol countryside was as delightful as the first time. Lovely, cozy furnishings and the gorgeous redwoods are as welcoming as the hosts. I'll most definitely be back.

  • We had a lovely time at this charming little apartment. Arrival and departure were a cinch and Kristie was very communicative and accommodating. A few bullet points for quick review: *The apartment is recently renovated, clean, and equipped with all needed bedding, linens, and kitchen appliances * The multiple patios are a delight, as they allow for relaxing both in the early morning or evening (particularly given the large heat lamp) *Kristie provided us with farm-fresh eggs from their hens, and the scrambled eggs we prepared using them are the best I've ever had! *The gas grill functions perfectly and we were able to prepare some fantastic food to celebrate July 4th *Waking up amidst the cool fog and quiet was wonderful, and given the surrounding quiet we slept wonderfully each night *While we had anticipated being in an open space largely free of other homes and residents, there are homes on both of sides of the road both before and after the property and a fair amount of road noise during the day from cars coming and going *We had expected the unit to be free-standing (perhaps I simply misread), but note that you share a driveway and a wall with another resident whose small home adjoins the unit *The backyard space for a pet is fantastic, as it is substantial and fenced, and is equipped with pooper scoopers and a waste bin for easy use *While both flat-screen TVs are connected to Blu-ray players, the cabling is RCA (red/white/yellow cables), which only supports display in standard definition (SD) (rather than in HD, which is the purpose of Blu-ray) *The WiFi was excellent: reliable and very fast

  • Grab this while you can because once the word is out this cottage will be fully (URL HIDDEN) is a great find. Newly on the market I was a bit nervous because there were no reviews, but I lucked out big time. It is a short drive to downtown Sebastopol and an easy drive to the coast. The absolutely best part is the property. Set on over 30 acres and surrounded by redwoods and beautiful gardens it was a delight to sit out on both decks at sunset and be immersed in nature. The property affords complete privacy. All the modern amenities are here with 2 tvs, great wi-fi and a brand new BarBQ. I loved cooking outside as the sun set. Kristie was super friendly and available for anything I needed. Thank you for the most relaxing and rejuvenating stay I've had in a long time.

  • What a Lovely Stay we had at Hummingbird Hill Cottage! The hosts, Kristie, Randy and Patti, do an Outstanding job to provide their guests with everything needed to ensure a relaxing and peaceful visit. We felt so welcomed ....from the gorgeous fresh flowers in every room, all the many Special Touches and attention to detail both inside and out, to the easy communication with our hosts if we had a question and even delicious, fresh eggs! It was wonderful. Thank You, Kristie, Randy and Patti for sharing your beautiful Cottage with us...we look forward to returning soon :)) Tom and Joyce Bair

  • We had a truly fantastic stay at Freestone Farm! The house and property were absolutely stunning. The house was well equipped and had everything we needed to be comfortable for the weekend. Great dining area inside and outside for group meals. House was in easy walking distance to wine tasting and Wild Flour Bakery. Leah was a gracious host and great communicator! We would return in a heartbeat! Thank you!

    Caitlin2016-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a party of two couples and really enjoyed our stay! Very secluded and quiet and we loved picking food from the garden to cook! Leah was very easy to communicate with.

  • The only reason I would be hesitant to leave a feedback is to avoid making rebooking this property difficult for us. We have been active Airbnb users for years and rented from a historic home in Venice to a modern condo in Cape Town. The quality and description greatly vary. But this place is as described and more. It's very good choice for two families with kids - great separation and acoustic, lots of kids equipment (from Stokke high chair to bassinet and pack and play), lots of grounds to explore, lots of outdoor space. The host responds to the messages very fast and a property manager is there to help if you are challenged as we are to figure simple equipment (aka hot tub). Thank you and we definitely would love to come back.

  • Fabulous place! Quiet location, yet near to both Sebastopol and Bodega Bay. Comfy and well-equipped. Excellent hosts as well! Highly recommended.

  • I was in town for a Wedding and stayed in the cottage. A friend traveled with me and stayed in the room in the house. This idyllic California setting was welcome respite from my morning commute on the NJ Turnpike. The room was clean, cable TV and internet. Also crumpets with butter and coffee left in the fridge for a morning snack. was appreciated. I did not get to meet the owner but if I did I would compliment on the back yard gardens and space for meditation.

  • Ah! Just what I needed! This was such a lovely and pleasant stay. Scotty and Amie hosted me for 2 weeks on a study retreat, and it was perfect. A nice, comfortable bright room to stay in, the most epic bath tub I've ever used, and the beauty of Freestone. Perfectly situated between town and my favorite places on the coast. All that AND these two are some quality individuals - so positive and supportive. Very inspiring to be around folks with dreams, ambition, and purpose who also love to enjoy life. I was extremely comfortable in this sweet, quiet, beautiful place. Thank you again and again for welcoming me!

  • My husband Joe and I really enjoyed our stay at Scotty's place; the house was beautifully decorated and warm; I loved the awesome modern claw-foot bathtub! Great views and could not beat the walking distance bakery across the street (as well as the cheese shop). Definitely recommend to anyone looking to stay in this fun/funky area close to the coast.

  • Staying with Scotty and Amy was great. We loved the chickens wandering the property and the hard boiled eggs were delicious. One of the best things about this spot is that you can walk down the hill to Wild Flour Bakery. This is the reason I picked their spot. The bakery is incredible and a must for breakfast if you stay there. Make sure to wander the garden in the back. There are great places to sit and hang out back there if you search a little.

Tiny simple cabin for one person in west Sebastopol. Great for the solo traveler. This is a step above glamorous camping. The is a fridge but no kitchen. Lovely views, beautiful gardens. Three and a half miles from downtown Sebastopol. Outdoor enclosed shower, enclosed bathroom, nice private deck. Theres a meditation/yoga dome on the property which is often available. Chickens, bees, lots of wildlife.
There is a single bed and small wall desk, French doors open to the deck where there is a table and chairs.
  • It is a nice quiet peaceful spot

  • Nature lovers haven. The crows nest is an appropriate title for the studio. It is privately located but surrounded by other dwellings on the property. Simply decorated with all the amenities you might need. I felt like I was camping since the bathroom and shower were outside. They were very close by and had a tropical feel to it. The shower had hot water with a strong shower head. The grounds were lovely and serene. Everything was clean and operable. I look forward to going back! My favorite bakery, WildFlour Bakery is close by, it’s a must if you stay over. One last thing, the hosts, Kamala and Pat are awesome, very accommodating and friendly.

    Sharon2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, BEAUTIFUL location. The cabin is very cozy, clean and warm, and the grounds are rustic and clearly well-maintained, with a gorgeous view of the trees and mountains. It really felt like I was camping, with just a bit more warmth and shelter than a tent.

    David2017-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • This quiet cabin was perfect to get away and be close to nature. The bed was comfortable with memory foam topper and plenty of blankets. The french doors can both open to let the air in and enjoy the nice aroma of the outdoors. The outdoor shower was the best, a bit hard to figure out but once you did it was divine. Also there is no hot water for the sink, just in the shower. Had a lovely stay, wish I would have taken advantage of the yoga dome, it was beautiful. And the black cat came to visit me every morning, so friendly and loving. I would come back again!

Working farm/ranch. Farmstay guesthouse is a private area attached to the main house through a solarium. It can fit up to 8 people depending on guest accommodations. We offer two full-sized beds, two couches in the sitting room that you convert into full-sized beds, two bathrooms, and the patio/solarium area. There is no kitchen use available. There is a mini fridge, and coffee supplies in the guesthouse. We offer complimentary farm goods when products are available.
Meadowlark House is a complex of three buildings: The farm stay (guest area): sitting room, two bedrooms and two baths is the first building. The farmstay is only available to guests who plan to buy our farm eggs or other farm products. The Pavilion (conference room (the "great hall"): kitchen, library is the second house. The East House is the Farm office and farm personnel living space. Unless arrangements are made beforehand, guest access is limited to the farm stay house and the farm itself (except the barn and hoop house areas unless guided by farm personnel). Please let us know if you plan to walk around the farm. We are a working ranch and farm. Ranch hands and office people sometimes take the noon meal in the conference dining room just off the kitchen You will see sheep, gophers, field mice and other animals (keep your doors closed when away). You may hear coyotes at night, distant roosters and geese in the morning and sometimes tree frogs. This is their home as much as it is ours. The house is surrounded by the countryside so bring your hiking shoes and take in the scenery. Bird watching is spectacular. There are two beds, one in each bedroom and there are two futons in the living room that make into beds. If you would like a tour of the farm please us know, so we can schedule it in advance. Please respect our check in time of 3 pm and our check out time of 11 am, as we often have new guests checking in the same day. Upon booking, please give us a little background about yourself. We love to hear and learn about our guests. The owner, Benjamin "Nick" Colby, lives on the property and, when not out on the farm, is available should questions arise. If you have any questions you may contact Berenice, the office manager, or Nick. Please leave a review after your stay and let us know how we did. Feel free to leave a note about your stay in our guest log, found in the Farm Stay house. We are a "farm stay" not a "bed and breakfast" (not allowed on farms in Sonoma County). As your host we are happy to provide maps, suggestions and recommendations for fine dining and other entertainment options in the area. The farm is out in the hills of Bodega Bay. Outside the farm you will need a vehicle to get around. The farm itself is very quiet except for farm animals and wildlife.
We have great neighbors who raise cattle on the other side of our fence. Other properties nearby have food gardens, sheep and dairies. Vineyards are 15 minutes away in Freestone, Redwoods in Occidental, Sebastopol about 18 minutes drive and Bodega Bay is around 15 minutes. There are two dinner restaurants and one breakfast/lunch cafe in Valley Ford. Limited groceries and other supplies are in the general store.
  • Nick has an awesome abode in Northern California! The design and layout of the home is very intriguing and there was a lot of purpose behind it! Nick was very friendly and accommodating during our stay. Highly recommend a visit!

  • Swallow Valley Farms was just what we needed for a relaxing getaway about an hour outside of San Francisco. The farm was quiet and peaceful and we had more than enough space for 7 of us. We would love to come back!

    Dennis2016-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Farm was expansive and peaceful, huge clear starry sky views at night. Sheep and chickens to visit. Host was very kind and offered his knowledge about the wildlife on the property. Huge views of the surroundings, lots of windows. Like new condition of the property, rooms and bathrooms were spotless. Everything was built solid and near soundproof. Very comfortable place to get a way from it all... thanks

    Matt2013-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in the Farm house was pleasant and memorable. We stayed in the Farm house as it was closer to our meeting place for a hot air balloon trip next morning. Nick was very communicative and replied immediately to all our questions. We had rented the kitchen and conference as we were a big group and we loved our stay in the farm house. Nick was very nice to take us around the farm on a tour as soon as we arrived and showed us the barn and bio char production site. The farm itself is very beautiful with sheep grazing around in a serene location. The Farm house looked exactly as described and in the photos except for bird droppings in some of the windows. Nick explained how he is planning to nest those birds in the backside so that he doesn't have to frequently clean the windows. The house had amazing environmental features like adjustable lighting, geothermal heating and Japanese toilets. We got a little late the next day for checkout as our balloon trip took slightly longer than expected, but Nick was accommodating. Overall, we had a great time in the Farm house and will visit again when we get a chance. Nick was nice enough to take one of our members to the local market as we had packed all the food when we left for the balloon trip early in the morning.

    Preethi2015-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Nick was great and the farm is spectacular...we had a wonderful time!

    Caroline2016-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • The property is lovely and large, perfect for our group. The setting was perfect to watch the stars and enjoy a quiet night in Bodega Bay.

    Patrick2013-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Nick was very accessible and communicative to facilitate an easy process of staying at his home. We found the stay on his farm to be very relaxing, and he was a gracious host, with coffee set up for us in the morning. We drove into Bodega Bay to get dinner, and it was an easy process, about a 15 minute drive. I would recommend staying with Nick for a bucolic and restful setting not far from San Francisco, Marin, etc.

My cozy studio space is in a quiet neighborhood among the trees and lush foliage surrounding. It is deal for one, but acceptable for two w/shared bed. Just minutes from surrounding quaint towns and 25/m to the ocean, my home has everything you need!
My beautiful, cozy, artsy, unique cottage in the trees is a peaceful, quiet space. It is ideal for one, or a cozy couple, that would like a truly serene sanctuary in West Sonoma County, CA. This is my refuge and I know it would be yours too!
Our beautiful neighborhood is tucked among the oak, pine, and redwood trees in the more rural part of town. Lots of the neighbors take long walks on the small roads with their dogs and friends. There is a small local store with coffee shop just 15 min by foot for a nice morning stroll/destination for a cup of tea!
  • We greatly enjoyed our stay at Molly's cottage. It is tucked away in a quiet area of Sebastopol. Our main neighbors were the chirping of birds. The studio gets a lot of lovely morning sunshine which was nice to wake up to. Molly provided detailed and helpful directions to navigate our way to the cottage and to make sure we were comfortable during our stay. She put out tea and coffee accouterments, which was a nice welcome being in the car for a few hours. Overall, the studio provided the perfect staging ground for a relaxing weekend getaway. We would certainly consider staying at Molly's place again for future trips to the area.

    Sandra2015-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I had a wonderful stay at Molly's. It was cute, cozy and warm. The area was beautiful and secluded. We even came home to friendly deer in the driveway one evening. Yet it was nearby neighbouring towns. We'd definitely stay again.

  • Molly is a communicative, friendly host who made sure I had everything I needed for my arrival, down to detailed driving instructions and little notes around the place about how to use things. She was quick to answer any questions when I had them, but gave me my space, too. The studio is cozy, quiet and secluded, and the bed is one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in.

  • We had a really nice experience at the Freestone Family Charm, our kids loved wandering around the property and watch the chickens lay their eggs. Scotty is the nicest host: he made sure we were comfortably settled. He offered fresh eggs, dried fruit and orange juice in the morning, plus great tips about good places for breakfast/lunch around and also recommendations on how to manage a chicken coop! The place is very clean, the kitchen fully equipped.

  • Amie's home was beautiful, clean and incredibly peaceful! I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The bed was super comfy, it was quiet and she offered a lovely continental breakfast every morning- including fresh eggs from her chickens. The animals on the property were adorable and I loved spending time on such a serene ranch! If you like peace and quiet, you'll be pleased. The cleanliness and animals were a total bonus!! Would highly recommend.

  • This is a nice big house in a semi-rural setting, quite a bit more than what the listing photos convey. It sits halfway up a hillside, pleasantly overlooking the countryside. Scotty was an exceptional host, quick to respond, cheerful and friendly. When Scotty was busy at work the night we arrived, Amie was most kind to answer our question on cellphone signals. We had an extremely restful night and was sorry our travel schedule did not allow us to stay longer. Will definitely recommend Scotty's place to our friends.

  • We had a wonderful stay with Scotty and Aimee. They couldn't of been more kind and gracious. The house was as clean as a whistle and very peaceful and serene. We will definitely stay there again on our next trip.

My house is a 5 minute drive west to Osmosis Day Spa & Wild Flour Bakery in Freestone, 5 minutes east to Fork Roadhouse, 20 minutes to Doran Beach, and 10 minutes from downtown Sebastopol. You’ll love my place for the tranquil beauty of the 7 acre bamboo nursery surrounding the house, the open expanse of the old apple orchard up the hill, and you're welcome to join me and my dog for a walk around the rural neighborhoods near our house. My home is good for couples and solo adventurers.
My home is a peaceful place, which makes it a great get-away from city noise and bustle. You may hear frogs, crickets, owls or coyotes at night and birds chirping in the mornings. There is a well-appointed kitchen for your use, with Vitamix, Nutri-Bullet, Cuisinart, toaster, and good knives, but no dish washer. There is one restriction - no pork or red meat cooking, but you can feel free to store and eat prepared red meat here. Although I offer wifi, I rarely use it (I prefer to use ethernet cable), so it's off unless a guest wants to use it between 7 am and 11 pm. My home is a very low EMF space, which will appeal to you if you're electrically sensitive. I ask that your electronic devices be powered off or placed in airplane mode between 11pm and 7am. The bed is an organic cotton and natural latex mattress and has organic cotton bedding and pillows. No artificial fragrances (perfumes, scented laundry products), please; pure essential oils are welcome. I have a small, friendly dog who loves to meet new friends.
Even though I live only 10 minutes from downtown Sebastopol and Whole Foods, my home is in a rural setting with two other families living on the property and neighbors nearby. If you walk up the hill from my house, you'll see views to the north, east and west. The orchard is a lovely place for star gazing, as we're far enough from Santa Rosa to have good viewing (no light pollution here).
  • Loved staying here - beautiful location!

  • Nice to have all natural environment in the house with a health coach in a bamboo forest. The house is peaceful with no emf at night after (URL HIDDEN) sleep is restful... Good learning for those interested in healthy living. I learned about an antioxidant drink that is tasty as well. A good place for an adventurous spirit.

  • Cheryl's place was great, and she was very welcoming as a host. I came to be in seclusion with nature while working on a writing project, and her home gave me a lovely den to do that. I especially liked the cooking materials, the quietude of the natural environment, and a walk up the hillside where I met some deer.

  • Choz was the most amazing host. She was considerate and kind and a wealth of information. She has a very calming way about her and makes you feel completely at home . She also is one smart lady about health , wellness, nervous conditions and so much more. She also has the cutest sweetest tiniest dog. Choz gives you what you need.

We are located less than 5 min. from Historic Occidental, with its' strategic access to wineries, breweries ,great restaurants, local cheese and bread makers, and an Arts Center featuring art and concerts. The Friday Farmers Market runs May thru October with produce, food, music, etc. Zipline tours are 5 min. from town one way, and Osmosis Enzyme Baths are 5 min. the other way. Sonoma Coast Beaches is a 20 min scenic drive away. Bodega Bay, closeby, offers great seafood, & boat charters.
The space has a living room, spacious bedroom and full bath with shower and deep soaking tub. Private entrance with covered deck and large separate area for guest parking. There's a lovely view to the east affording beautiful sun and moon rises. The property has fruit trees, redwoods, and many plant varieties on 5 private, rural acres near the end of a dead end road.
  • My husband and I booked this cute place to go back to following a day of ziplining and outdoor adventures! Our experience at Zans adorable home was perfect!! Zan is a wonderful host with a warm, sweet easy going personality that instantly made us feel welcomed! Check in and check out could not have been easier! The home is absolutely adorable on the inside! Zan has a true touch! We came in to a bottle of champagne and cheese and crackers in a warmly and uniquely decorated, spotlessly clean and fresh smelling home! Zan had organic coffee and teas in the kitchen and asked me if I drink my coffee with cream and went into town to bring back cream so I would have it for the morning! Who does that?! :) We would without a doubt recommend this gem to everyone we know!! We hope to go back again!! Thank you Zan!!

    Wendy2017-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Zan's home was amazing! Overall the place was very clean and inviting. The bed was comfortable, and the porch was so relaxing, and had a great view. The town of Occidental was nice, with many good spots to have dinner and lunch. I highly recommend staying here if you are in the area.

  • Zan was so sweet and accommodating. Lovely place, secluded and peaceful.

    Jay2016-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time during our stay at Zan's place. The setting was beautiful! We enjoyed watching the deer and birds, feeding the horses down the road, and picking blackberries. Zan's place was super inviting, cozy, and spotless. Everything was great, from the comfy bed to the luxurious shower and tub to the kitchenette to the expansive views. She took care of every detail and was a wonderful host all around. I hope we will be able to return again next year!

    Amber2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place! Perfect for two people looking for a get away. Would love to go back over summer to visit wine country.

    Robert 2017-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Alexandra's place is in a lovely spot with a great eastern view. She pays attention to every detail in her Air BnB lodging. The decor is personal and beautiful. We appreciated her friendly approach and interest in the reason for our visit. It's important to note that this accommodation does not have a full kitchen; there is a small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hot water appliance, and dishes for two people. This worked fine for us because we did not prepare any meals. It is one mile away from Occidental which has a great choice of restaurants.

    Jeannette2017-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Zan is very kind and helpful. The home provides a great landing point for the amazing sites around Sonoma. The referral to the canoe trip was perfect and your lending us the ice packs really helped. Watching the deer out the window was also wonderful. Best wishs

    Daniel2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Zan's place! The proximity to the charming town of Occidental and the Osmosis Day Spa plus the exceptional value of the accommodation made for a wonderful, relaxing birthday weekend getaway. Zan's attention to detail was impeccable and we had everything we needed for a stress-free stay. The 'welcome' snacks and first night 'turn down' complete with chocolates was a delightful surprise. We will definitely book with Zan next time we are in Occidental. The only con of our stay was having to leave this serene retreat and return to the madness of daily life. Thank you, Zan!

Deerpath cottage is a cozy yet spacious 2-story home on a wooded country lane just outside Sebastopol. Quiet and private yet convenient to every attraction and activity in the heart of Sonomas wine country.
This cottage was constructed by the owner from largely recycled materials. Set in the trees and with windows on all sides of the upper floor living space it is bright and pleasant and feels like a well appointed tree house. There is a kitchen and half bath upstairs and a full bath off the cozy ground floor bedroom with a Queen size bed.
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Deerpath. The cabin was quiet and relaxing, yet so accessible to Sebastopol, Freestone, Occidental, etc. Alan was a wonderful host and easy to communicate with. Would definitely stay again.

  • Deerpath cottage was a perfect location for exploring the small towns in West Sonoma County. We were in town for a wedding in Sebastopol and decided to make a long weekend out of it. The cottage is in a quiet, woodsy, residential area and about 15-20 minutes from Santa Rosa, Sebastopol, Graton, and Forestville. We heard lots of coyotes one night, which reminded us of home. We enjoying a nice walk down the street to see the horses and we didn't have time to use the BBQ but it's a nice feature. The kitchen is small but well stocked. The bed was comfy and it was lovely having well water like we are used to at home instead of chlorinated city water. No need to buy bottled water, the tap water here is tasty! This is newer rental and it is super clean. I really hope it stays that way, because a super clean place is a rare find!

    Jennifer2016-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Alan was very responsive to all of my questions and the space was beautiful. The cottage is extremely quiet and the upper floor feels like a tree house because of the tall trees all around. I highly recommend it if you want easy access to the cool and funky small towns in the area, to the Russian River, or to the many nearby wineries.

    Michelle2016-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great weekend get away at the Deerpath cottage. It was central to all the areas we wanted to check out and close to local hubs. We would definitely come back again!

  • My stay at Deerpath Cottage was perfect for a relaxing weekend! The cottage was spacious for two, comfortable, and very clean. Alan was a great host - although we never met, he was very nice and quick in our communications. The location of the cottage is ideal as well - 10 minutes to Sebastopol, 10 minutes to Occidental, and 10 minutes to Wild Flour Bread Bakery! I hope to return soon and would definitely recommend Deerpath Cottage!

  • Deerpath Cottage is the perfect place to relax. My husband and I were so comfortable here, and enjoyed our time at this quiet little place tucked in the woods. We loved cooking in the open kitchen and made all our meals here. We even had a chance to use the bbq. We felt very well taken care of by Alan. Nice linens and plenty of towels. The cottage is very clean and close to the Russian River. Can't wait to come back.

Our dog had a nice big area outside for leashed walks and we caught sight of a fox and several grazing deer while we were there. Town has a lot of neat shops and was close by, the Sonoma Coast beaches were also a short drive away. All in all we had a great stay!

Be pampered in this newly built 2 BR home on our families 150 year old farm. A bottle of wine and local pastries will greet you, as you sink into this cozy oasis of soft white linens, and deep soaking tubs. Set in a private sunny apple orchard with views of the ranch and redwoods from every window, it is a perfect place to relax, and access all that Sonoma County has to offer. Farmers markets, restaurants, wineries, breweries, beaches, river, cycling, and hiking are all within a short drive.
Crisp white linens, deep comfy couches and beds, and rustic farmhouse decor will welcome you. We take pride in this home, and look forward to hosting you and looking after every last detail. The home is upscale and beautiful, we include lots of little extras, and we we are sure you will love your stay. The Farm House is far enough from towns to feel away from it all, while being very easy to find, and set on a main road which makes it easy to get to and from the rental. In the Month of October we sell Pumpkins from our very simple, low key, pumpkin patch at Burnt House Farm from 10-4 which is fairly close to the rental. Of course we will respect your privacy, but do expect some noise from patrons in the patch.
Our property is set in the beautiful Sonoma County countryside, where the vineyards meet the redwoods. Hot days turn to cool misty nights during the summer, and winter brings rain, cozy fires, and crisp starry night skies. You are sure to feel rested and renewed after a few nights here.
  • I was fortunate enough to spend the weekend at this lovely farmhouse haven. Fresh apples from lovely old trees surrounding the house, and a pumpkin patch next door really show off the farm. The house is pristine, private, beautifully decorated, with the softest towels and linens you can imagine. It's a quiet, country space with a luxurious feel. Details are taken care of - and surpassed expectations - we were greeted with a bottle of wine, a sweet welcome note, and fresh pastries. Bonny is super responsive and communicative and good at staying in touch so we knew what to expect - whether it was about local color, farm activities, dinner reservations or about the fire danger (we came during the sonoma/santa rosa fires not too far away). I honestly can't wait to come back.

    Allegra2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for peace and quiet away from it all, this is it. We could have happily rested there all weekend without ever leaving the place. Very clean, all the amenities we wanted. Plus three barn cats who came and checked on us, hawks circling in the morning, and owls hooting at night. Can't think on a way to improve on the experience (except to stay longer).

    Marji2017-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at Bonny’s place was amazing. Fresh apples off the trees, gorgeous hardwood floors, farmhouse decor, roomy tubs, comfy beds (understatement!), a home entertainment center and more. When I first met Bonny, she mentioned she always wanted to run a B and B. I'd say she's a natural; she's easy to communicate with and has an uncanny ability to anticipate a guest's every need. I'll be back!

  • This beautiful little house seems remote, but it is 10 minutes from fabulous wineries and food. We drove less than 30 minutes to Bodega Bay via a very scenic drive as well. The property is as picturesque as any place I’ve ever stayed. We were completely comfortable and found everything we needed to have a relaxing small family Thanksgiving. More than enough space for four of us. Would highly recommend this listing!

Forest Ridge is a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired ranch house - full of natural light and surrounded by nature. Custom-built in 1975 out of redwood and glass, this architectural gem sits on just over 6 acres of private forest in West Sonoma County's Wine Country. With approximately 5,600 square feet of indoor living space, guests have ample room to spread out. The single level floorplan includes two living rooms, formal dining, casual dining, an impeccably remodeled kitchen and a spacious yoga studio (ask about a private yoga class). Outside, the solar heated in ground pool, half basketball court, BBQ, hammocks, and variety of seating and dining areas make it hard to decide - inside or outside? It's all about the attention to details - vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows, mid-century modern inspired décor and original artwork. Superbly comfortable bedrooms and remodeled bathrooms - two with soaking tubs, one with a travertine and marble walk in shower and heated floor - encourage relaxation and rejuvenation. Stroll through the property and say hello to the 141 redwood trees or try "forest bathing" in one of the three hammocks suspended in a grove. Whether you are looking for a corporate retreat or family adventure, Forest Ridge will steal your heart! The towns of Occidental, Freestone and Graton, home to bakeries, world renowned Osmosis Spa, local cheese, excellent restaurants and wineries, are all minutes from the house. You are roughly halfway between two east/west arteries: Bohemian Highway to the north and Bodega Highway to the South. The two nearest towns – Freestone to the South and Occidental going North and West – are approximately 3 miles. In Freestone, you’ll find the well-loved Wildflour Bakery. Throngs of City day trippers stop there on Saturday and it is only open Friday through Monday. Across the street is Osmosis Spa - known for its cedar enzyme baths, rarely seen outside of Japan, and meditative gardens. Just a bit further down the road is Freestone Artisan Cheese, a local favorite shop with handcrafted cheeses, and sundry products like nuts and olive oils, honey and chocolates. In Occidental, you will find a charming hamlet chock a block with shops and restaurants. Howard Station Café is a terrific spot for breakfast. Howard was a Danish sailor who jumped ship to join the gold rush and “somehow” acquired the land that is now Occidental. Granting the new North Pacific Coast Railroad the right of way through his property he was granted a free, lifetime railroad pass and the station was marked with the sign “Howard’s.” The café walls are covered with old photos and maps. There is a farmer’s market in Occidental every Friday 4pm ‘til dusk, June through October. For fine dining, a little known favorite is Fork Roadhouse. It is two miles East on Bodega Highway. It looks beat up and unpretentious on the outside but serves stellar locally-sourced New American fare. For dinner and Sunday Brunch, you will want to make reservations. Best grocery store: Andy’s. Take Bohemian Highway East to Highway 116. Turn right on 116 and it is about a half mile on the left. Best fun thing: Ziplining the Redwood tree tops. Sonoma Canopy Tours, just west of Occidental. Reservations required. Fastest way to the Coast: Bodega Highway Most adventurous and spectacular way to the Coast: Coleman Valley Road west out of Occidental. Note of caution: GPS will not help you here; this is a meandering rural road that traverses very steep hills and can feel more like a goat trail than a road (no RVs). In fact, you are likely to encounter goats on the road, but on a clear day the views are amazing.
  • This place is really beautiful and huge! The hammock in the grove of trees was incredibly relaxing. All of the rooms are good sized and the yoga room is a great place to sequester the kids. The pool looked nice and was perfect for a polar plunge, but even the kids couldn't stay in for more than a compulsory jump. Compared to similar sized places in wine country this place was a great deal even with the $500+ cleaning fee.

Beautiful hide-away home in the rolling hills just minutes from downtown Sebastopol. Warm and cozy. Had a great weekend!
