Vacation Rentals in United States

Just booked in Fort Drum

Looking to save a little on your lodging in Watertown? Perhaps you're down from Ontario for a shopping trip, need a place to prep for an interview at SMC, or visiting a friend on Fort Drum? I have a guest room with your name on it!
I've lived in Jefferson County a long time and am happy to give restaurant recommendations, directions, etc. I keep a fairly clean house that is well stocked with a little bit of everything and anything by way of amenities. It's like you'll be crashing with a long lost college friend you haven't seen in a decade. However, please ask before rooting around in my medicine cabinet, etc. I'm a bit OCD, so trust me, I will notice. (update) I'm your host, not your long lost friend, so don't use my razor. That's gross. Thanks! PS - as of Jan '17, I have a cat. Yes, it was a terrible idea. The guest room is off limits to him and he stays in the basement a lot, but you have been warned.
My neighborhood is residential and very nice. It offers great walks along Ives Country Club golf course and some beautiful old Watertown homes. I'm located on the edge of the city but only a 2 minute drive to groceries, drug store, Jrecks, Dunkin, YMCA, etc. Route 81 is a stone's throw away, Arsenal Street shopping and Salmon Run mall 5 minutes away and Fort Drum is 10 minutes up Route 11.
  • Great value. Quick responses. Incredibly accommodating. Would stay again.

  • Stay with Jess and enjoy a home away from home!

    Genevieve2016-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Everything you see is what you get and more. The place is charming as is the host. Jess communicated throughout the process making check in seamless. She made me feel comfortable and she is very inviting. Besides also being an absolute riot! The house is clean. The room very comfortable. She even goes above and beyond providing comforts that one would find in a 5 star hotel. I would stay here again and recommend it for anyway looking for lodging in Watertown.

Newly renovated throughout. Provides a wonderful cabin feel for the North Country. This place is located close to all of the necessary amenities but still provides for the country feel and privacy. Spacious and inviting, this tranquil domicile reminds people of the good things in life and the simplicity of nature.
If you have unique timeline or are moving to the area, this space is ideal. I am very flexible and have helped several transient students during their internships, along with multiple service members relocating to Fort Drum. If you have any special requests or scheduling needs contact me, and we can work out a plan.
  • Near Fort Drum... A military atmosphere... Derek was a fine host and a gentleman, given that we probably had nothing in common, and few overlapping political views in these difficult times. Recommended.

    Richard2017-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay with Derek and would definitely return in the future. He and his other guests were very friendly, welcoming and helpful!

    Jenele2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Derek was a great host, easy going, and very accommodating. The cabin is undergoing renovations but these did not disrupt my stay at all. I was able to stay with Derek for two months while I waited to close on my house and enjoyed the entire stay. It is a short drive to Fort Drum making the stay even more ideal. I would strongly recommend Derek's Cabin to individuals transitioning into the Fort Drum region.

    Colby2016-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • Derek is an easygoing guy that will make your stay comfortable. The house is currently undergoing renovation in many of the rooms, so as long as you don't mind a bit of construction, this is a great place to stay. Should be quite nice when he finishes all the projects.

    Reid2015-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed there for a quick little overnight on my way through town, got there late and left early. Derek and his girlfriend were there to greet me and send me in my way, and seemed very eager to do whatever they could to make me feel at home! Bed was comfortable, shower was QUITE nice (I assume one of the things that was remodeled recently?), and It was exactly the quiet little place with a bit of character that I was looking for!

    Laura2017-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Rural and idyllic place very suitable for vacation, about 30 minutes ride away from the central area of Thousand Island, economical and comfortable and Derek is easygoing very much as well. Strongly recomend!

    zhentai2015-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing cozy spot to stop along the way during some travels. Derek is super welcoming. You won't have trouble sleeping here! Very quiet and comfortable

Country Cousins Farm is a small family dairy farm and we love to host guests in our cabin! Enjoy the sights and sounds of a rural setting. If you are interested you can "help" with chores on our farm! Or you can tour the 1000 Islands region.
Our cabin will sleep up to 8 people. We have two full size beds with single bunk bed over each of them. We also have a full size futon that folds down for sleeping. The beds are separated from the rest of the cabin by a curtain. There is a full bath. There is also a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster and a coffee maker. The cabin is heated and available year round.
We live in a very wide open country area but within minutes we can be in the shopping district of Watertown, NY where you can find many stores and restaurants.
  • nice little cabin, comfortable, exactly as described. welcoming hosts

  • Loved everything about my first AirBNB experience. Stanley and his family were truly wonderful hosts, We enjoyed our stay in his well kept fully stocked cabin and my children enjoyed spending time in the barn with the animals. We ate several delicious home cooked meals and enjoyed laughs and talk around the dinner table. Stan and Sharon made us feel like part of the family and we can't wait to schedule our next stay. Thank you guys so much!

    Daniel2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a neat place! So much more spacious than we realized and the hosts are very gracious. Lots of little extras to make your stay more comfortable! I recommend it highly and think I would have enjoyed it even more with little kids!

  • Hi we stayed one night at Country Cousins Cabin , the cabin is immaculate clean and very comfortable ,with everything you need. Is very peaceful and quiet. We loved it. we did go to Alexandria Bay about 25 minute ride . Stanley could not have been nicer, my husband got up and took a tour of the farm and he was so impressed with all the info Stanley gave him. They supply a nice assortment of things for breakfast and for you to snack on. The sunset was beautiful on the farm. The cows were adorable. And Shadow their dog was very friendly. You will not be disappointed. Thank you for everything we had a great stay and might come back to visit . Martha & Jay

  • Excellent cabin. Excellent hosts. We started there with our two boys, and enjoyed a lovely farm atmosphere with very good accommodations.

  • We had a very nice time at the Cousins farms. Stanley shows us the farm and his wife made a very friendly welcome. We shared their family dinner (very good) and it was a rich experience. The country place is all quiet and very peaceful.

  • A wonderful place to stay if you enjoy the serenity of beautiful farm land. A wonderful family. Close to Clayton, Alexandria Bay and Watertown. Easy day trips to all over the area. We loved our stay.

Our place is close to Fort Drum, 1000 Islands, Clayton, Alexandria Bay, Canada, Adirondack Park, Watertown, and Black River. We welcome couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. We make a mean pizza, artisan bread, and homemade pasta. If you inquire before booking, we may be able to show you how it's done during your stay. Be sure to keep reading about our home, coffee roasting, neighborhood and other nuggets below.
We love our space and we love sharing it. Since we are sensitive to fragrances and chemicals, we limit them as much as possible. Therefore, we have no carpets, no pets, no strong smells. All cleaning products and detergents are eco friendly and have mild or no scent added. This is a great space for people with allergies or sensitivity to smells. Because of this, we provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soaps and other hair products.
Quiet, safe neighborhood with no through traffic. Off road parking in our driveway is convenient.
  • 10/10 would recommend staying at Laura and Mike's place again. Laura and Mike are great hosts, their home is beautiful and a great place to spend the night and I think it would be a great launching point if you wanted to stay and explore the area a bit more. You couldn't ask for a better Air BNB experience.

    Pheona2017-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Laura and Mike couldn't be nicer folks. They have thought of everything and are incredibly generous and friendly. I very much enjoyed our conversations and appreciate how I was treated more like a family friend than a passer by.

    Bob2017-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • We highly recommend Laura's home. It is just as described and pictured...better really. Laura and her husband Mike are exceptional hosts and really lovely and very interesting people. The room and home were spotless, the bed was dreamy and the coffee and hospitality were above and beyond. We'll be back next time we are in the area.

  • Laura's place was very clean and comfortable. Mike and Laura are wonderful hosts. They were very friendly and helpful. When we needed directions not only did they tell us how to get where we want to go they wrote it down for us. We would be very happy to stay there again.

  • Laura’s place is incredible. Absolutely neat and clean, a haven for clean freaks like us. We loved it and can say without an ounce of doubt that it was one of the top best places we have stayed at. Laura and her husband mike are an amazing couple, very friendly and welcoming. Everything in their house is thoughtful and so are they as people. Laura puts a lot of effort into making her guests feel comfortable! A wonderful experience we will always remember plus the best coffee we have ever had :) We would definitely love to stay with them again. Thank you Laura and Mike for making us feel home. We loved every second of our stay in your home!

  • This was one of the best Airbnb stays we've had! Laura and Mike were so warm and welcoming and made us feel right at home. The room is clean and comfortable for a great nights stay. Laura even made us coffee and tea in the morning. They also offered many suggestions for things to do and places to eat. We would definitely love to stay here again if we're ever back in the area!

    Connie2017-09-04T00:00:00Z

Cozy owner/operated hotel, limited rooms, very quite, have all the amenities of home at your fingertips. Great outdoor fire-pit/bbq area, amazing outdoor activities all around the area. On-site fitness center/ light breakfast!
  • Good place to stay for the price. Rooms are clean and the brreakfast covers all the basics. It's only available until 9 a.m. which can be a challenge if you want to sleep in a bit. Beds and pillows were comfortable. Would stay again if I'm in the area.

  • This hotel was clean, quiet, and perfectly located just outside of the center of Carthage. We were house hunting in the area and discovered a playground within walking distance of the hotel. The owners were incredibly nice and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. My husband used their exercise room, which isn't large but perfectly equipped. We also ended up extending our stay by one night. I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice place to stay while visiting Watertown, Fort Drum, and Carthage.

    Kate2016-03-19T00:00:00Z

  • We stayed at Jevon's when my brother was graduating from college at St. Lawerence. I was actually late getting there but my husband was able to check in with no problem. It smelt a little and you can kind of hear your neighbors but otherwise it was good. Bed was springy which was actually a relief for my husband. Right off the Main Street for Watertown, Walmart was about 5 minute drive down the road, and there's restaurants right on that strip. It was good

  • Love this place! Scott and Gena are the most welcoming people I have ever met! The room was cozy and clean. The whole house was like your home away from home. These two people are the most calm and cheerful people I have ever met who will go the distance to ensure you are happy and taken care of. I appreciated coming home every day to people who could read me and knew whether a glass of wine or a comforting pat on the back was in order. I am so pleased to be coming back to this warm atmosphere whenever I come back to Watertown again. I love it!!

    Lisa2017-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • We appreciated the hospitality we received from Scott and Gena. They are great hosts and if you stay with them you will not be disappointed. They gave us great tips on the area since we were so out of the loop on what too expect. It's a lovely place to stay and our room was very comfortable with all the amenities we would need and they even offered us food and wine, which was simply a bonus! All their animals are quite friendly and eager to day hello. We would definitely stay here again.

  • Scott & Gena are super nice and accommodating hosts. They had plenty of recommendations for the area and were friendly and helpful. The only thing I would note, however, is that there is the potential to have to share one bathroom between 2 separately rented bedrooms, It was not an issue for us, but I think guests should be aware of this. They also have super friendly dogs which we love!!

Stunning in the summer, but also spectacular in Autumn with the Foliage and Winter is a wonderland for cross country skiing and skating.

There is a Galley kitchen,a sleeping nook with one of the most comfortable memory foam beds with skylights above to see the stars! Great deck w BBQ. Walk down 20 ft to the waterside and sit on the dock and watch the river flow. There are 2 kayaks, a paddle board and fishing. There is some of the best white water rafting around just up the river. (URL HIDDEN) 20 minutes from the stunning 1000 Islands and St. Lawrence river and 7 minutes to Lake Ontario's Sackets Harbor. So much outdoor activity to do or just sit back and watch the river flow! Also a great retreat for those who just want some quiet and nature to be inspired in.
  • This beautiful haven was an absolute joy to come back to at the end of the day. Monica made me feel so welcome and cared for. The spacious apartment is beautiful and incredibly comfortable, with beautiful views through every window. I look forward to visiting again.

    Kara2017-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location!

    Jason2016-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • All in all, a fantastic stay steps from the Black River in a large open relaxing space. We couldn't get enough of being on the river, and we'd love to do it again! We've used Airbnb and other such sites for a few years now, and Monica was one of the best hosts that we've encountered. She was incredibly helpful, warm and welcoming. We easily communicated by phone and text prior to arrival and during our stay, and Monica did her best to make sure we had everything we needed for a comfy stay. The space itself was lovely. It's quite large, very open and brightly lit. The huge windows open up to let in the sights and sounds of the Black River. The bed is super comfy, and there's lots of room to hang out and read from the diverse collection of books laying around. Wifi is a little slower than what we're used to, but we really didn't spend much time online. Studio sits over the garage, where Monica runs her own line of organic face products. Kayaking and paddling the river were our favorite parts of this vacation. Monica had 2 kayaks and a SUP, a 2 minute walk down from the house to the water, and we were happy to spend time exploring the river. The section next to the house is quite calm, so there were many boats and kayakers over the holiday weekend. But at the end of the break, there was one gorgeous morning on the river where we had it all to ourselves.

    Abhishek2016-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • First of all Monica is a terrific hostess. She is a great communicator who made sure I had the right directions and made sure everything was in order for my arrival. Any time I had questions about what to do or where to go, she provided honest feedback. As for the listing, it is an ideal retreat. As soon as I got there I was amazed by the beauty and the tranquility of the location. It feels like you are in a far off cabin, yet you are only a 5 minute drive from town...if you choose to leave. Between the kayaks, the swimming, the decks, the bbq and the view there was plenty to keep me occupied outdoors. Then there is the studio itself, which was sunny, airy and well cleaned. There is a good stack of books to curl up with and a full kitchen at your disposal. Most mornings I had the pleasure of waking up with the sun as I watched it rise through the large windows. All in all, this is great place to go to clear your head and treat yourself to some sun soaked rest and relaxation.

    Jared2016-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Monica's place was absolutely fantastic! The decor, furniture, views, and everything else were tremendous. The location of the property was comfortably secluded and right on the Black River, which could be seen from the large deck with furniture and a grill or from the path down to the river itself. Monica herself was very accommodating and made it a great stay.

    Jake2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • The studio was the absolute perfect place to stay. The hostess, is truly the hostess with the most-ess. Monica was such a warm, kind hearted person who has impeccable style and grace. The amenities were above and beyond what we expected. Monica was so thoughtful -leaving a fresh bag of nice quality coffee for us, fresh creamer and a bottle of prosecco to celebrate our occasion. We loved our stay so much, we extended it for one more night! The Black River is gorgeous. We kayaked, went fishing, swam in the beautiful river, explored the surrounding towns and made great friends. The studio is so private and we had our own private deck. It is loaded with windows, so the cross breeze was great. you could even lay in bed and look at the stars through the skylights! I have experienced Airbnb stays before, but there is nothing that will ever compare to the experience we had at Monica's studio. The bed was the comfiest bed with the softest sheets. We brought our own bedding (just in case, because i am picky) and we didnt even use them! We kept all of the linens in the car the whole weekend! My fiancee and I want to stay at Monica's every year and make a tradition out of it!! This place will make you fall in love with whoever you are with, fall in love with nature and fall back in love with yourself.

  • Clean, bright and lovely! Definitely going back to whitewater raft and definitely staying at Monica's! The setting is serene and totally laid back. I enjoyed an awesome evening swim in the river which is literally the back yard. She left us fresh fruit and muffins, which was so sweet and unexpected. Felt like home.

  • Monicas house is one of the most magical homes that i have ever stayed in. The apartment is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated, right down to every detail. The bed is like sleeping on a cloud. I awoke to birds chirping and walked out to the beautiful front deck overlooking the black river canyon. After breakfast i went for a kayak paddle and enjoyed the serenity of this unique part of the world. oh yah. and to top it all off, it is directly across the street from the very small watertown international airport so i flew out to philly easily. i cant wait to return!

  • This house and John exceeded our expectations. It was so clean and comfortable. The 7 bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. Towels were set out for quests in every room, also fans were in every room! If we had forgotten to bring anything, chances are it was there! We had an amazing weekend and were sad to leave. Although it was summer, I can see what a gem it would be for snowmobile trips. Hands down, this exceeded our expectations and would love to visit again!

Newly renovated cabin on Butterfield Lake. Views of the head of the lake at sunrise are spectacular! This cozy 2 bedroom with a large bedroom loft, camp is perfect for families and others who would enjoy fishing and relaxing by the water. Bed linens and towels are provided. Charcoal grill and picnic table on site. If interested, ask me about boat rentals in the area.
This house is one of three homes located near the town dock of Butterfield Lake in Redwood, NY. The owners of the other two homes are available for questions most of the time. When they are not available, the owner may be reached by phone.
There is an ice cream shop and deli mart that serves pizza and sub sandwiches in Redwood. Numerous restaurants are located in Alexandria Bay, (7 miles), Clayton, (19 miles) and Watertown (25 miles). Drive in theater, putt putt golf and go-carts are all located in Alexandria Bay.
  • We were very pleased and enjoyed the stay. We had a beautiful view of the lake and next time will be sure to take our kayaks! We weren't far from Alexandria Bay which is a hopping little town. Our host provide us with information on area attractions and gave us some good suggestions. The inside of the cabin was beautiful with brand new wood paneling and new appliances and it made it enjoyable to have breakfast with the family. Our host also provided us with all the amenities such as sheets and towels. I would recommend this to anyone traveling to the Alexandra Bay/Watertown area or to anyone who just want a quiet getaway.

  • We had a really good time at the Butterfield lake. Clean and wonderful camp for our trip to 1000 island. Location is perfect to explore the near state parks and cities. If u want to relex just at the lake it is perfect too. Thanks for a great time and my son still talkes about the fish he catched with your help! :)

  • The house was really cute! Love the set up. Janet was a really nice host and made sure we felt very welcome during our stay. The house was perfectly clean we all enjoyed our stay so much! It's in a nice secluded area but is also close to alexandra bay where we were able to do a lot of fun things!

    Isabella2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Janet was a gracious host, always accommodating. We are looking forward to our next stay!

  • What a perfect experience. The cabin was beautiful, the location couldn't be any better. The views were picturesque! Janet was a wonderful host, she executed a great mixture of hospitality and privacy. We had everything we needed and she even checked in with us a few times when we ran into her in passing. She is very dedicated to improving the amenities and experience for the renters, so by the time this is read I'm sure it will be even better than I have described! Highly, highly recommend this listing, you really cannot go wrong.

  • We stayed at this Redwood cabin for a 4 day weekend and had a terrific time! The host and family were nothing but helpful and friendly making sure that we had everything we needed, as well as giving us our privacy. The cabin is sooo cute, clean and comfortable, we would stay again and recc. to friends. The cabin is steps away from Butterfield Lake, and we enjoyed the beautiful sunrise over the water and kayaking right from the front of the cabin. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, and the cabin supplied a comfortable spot at the end of each day. It was so much better than a hotel stay as we had so much more than just a bed. Just a short drive to Alex Bay and the activities, actually enjoyed not staying in the crazy busy area of Alex Bay, and going back to the peaceful cabin each evening. Thank you Janet for all you did to help make our get-away possible!

Better Farm has a split-level loft available that can accommodate up to 4 guests. There is a full bed in the top floor and two single beds on the first floor. The entrance to the split-level loft is on the second floor of the house. This private room comes with shared use of a kitchenette on the second floor (microwave, single-burner hot plate, tea kettle, crock pot, coffeemaker) three baths, and common area.
Better Farm's split-level loft offers guests a private space amidst the goings-on of an organic farm, sustainability campus, animal sanctuary and artist colony. The 65-acre property features rolling hills, open fields, forests, a marsh, pond, small fruit orchard, and vegetable and herb gardens. Better Farm is located in the foothills of the Adirondacks and just 10 miles from the St. Lawrence Seaway, Canadian Border, and Thousand Islands. There are more than a dozen lakes within a 15-mile radius offering great opportunity for kayaking, swimming, fishing, and other water sports.
Redwood is a tiny hamlet of only 600 people. The neighborhood is more of an untouched landscape: rolling country roads, hiking trails, pristine lakes and beautiful rivers. "Downtown" Redwood has two convenience stores, a small-engine repair shop, two gas stations, and a couple of pubs and eateries.
  • Nicole is a great host, she and her team help you to feel as like you are at home, I think this is not goes without saying. we had delicious breakfast with fresh eggs from her farm, chickens are all free all day in the garden, also there are 2 lovely dogs and impressive library. If you want to feel how is it to live in a real farm, this is the place. I also recommend the Indian trail around the lakes in the area, all nature surround the farm

    Michal2014-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Nicole is a great person and an excellent host! I wish my family and I could have spent more time at the farm! The breakfast is a must! The Better Farm is a unique setting that you have to experience to appreciate. Sure, it could use a bit of dusting here and there, but I think this adds to it's charm. If you want a sterile cookie cutter, this special place is not for you.

  • I liked the place a lot. Old farm house, great environment.

  • Better Farm is a delightful, laid back getaway. We were in Alexandria Bay for another wedding and the farm is the perfect place for our family to stay. Breakfast, shared with other guests, was delicious and afforded lively conversation with fellow travelers. Nicole and David are wonderful, accommodating hosts. They are extremely knowledgeable about the area and we loved learning about the sustainable practices, education, and art programs that take place at Better Farm. It' a beautiful place and a beautiful way of life. Excellent communication, both for check-in and throughout our stay, was very much appreciated. Thank you, Nicole and David! We hope to see you again soon.

  • It is a large farm house with a attracting library __ in fact, it is a huge living room with so many books fulfilled shelves on all the walls. I love it. two big dogs will bark at the beginning, but will quickly be used to your existence. You can even touch one of them with your hands. But you'd better keep distance from the dark one, he is not as good temper as another one. the house is very close to Alexandria Bay, convenient for taking a cruise tour around 1000 islands.

    Ke2015-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Relaxing rural setting with great hosts. The provided breakfast was delicious(zucchini Latkes!), we learned a ton about the farm, and felt comfortable in the house the whole time.

  • Nicole was wonderful! We went up for the weekend to celebrate my daughter's 7th birthday and we had a blast. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. We went to the local drive in, went to Alexandria Bay for a boat ride, and attempted to go for a hike. My daughter and nephew really loved the farm and the room. We only had breakfast twice when we were there and it was so DELICIOUS!!! We wish we could have a breakfast like that every weekend, it was such a great value for all the wonderful food we got. We would definitely stay there again and may plan another trip to go up to Canada and stop by for a brief stay.

  • This review is for the Watertown location. I believe I met someone who looks after the house and not the owner. I was able to park my car in the driveway however if there are other guests staying I’m not sure where everyone else would park. I stayed for 2 days during my shift at work and I work night shift. The place is just as stated. The room I stayed in had a big comfy bed and it had a table and chair if you needed and a rustic dresser. At the moment there is one socket working which is used for the lamp in the room. There is a sitting area upstairs with a TV which I didn’t use. They offer use of the kitchen (which I didn’t use) and welcome you to coffee and water for beverages. The location is about 5-7 minutes from I81 and not far from major shopping and gas stations which is really convenient. Overall, because I used the space to literally sleep and shower it was appropriate for what I needed.

  • This place was exactly what I expected, no frills just a place to lay our heads at night. The TV'S were old school and many channels didn't come in clear. Needless to say the kids enjoyed the pool. It was family friendly which was nice. It was also close to downtown and shops.

Better Farm's Attic Loft is furnished with a full-size mattress, a bedside lamp and fan. To access the loft, you must climb a ladder! Please keep this in mind when making your booking. The ladder is located on the second-floor hallway of Better Farm's main house. There is no door to the room, but there is a wooden panel you can place over the entrance once you are up for privacy.
Better Farm is a sustainability campus, artist colony, and organic farm set on 65 acres in rural New York State. Just 10 miles from the St. Lawrence Seaway, Canadian border, and Thousand Islands, Redwood is nestled in the foothills of the Adirondacks and is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. The main farm house offers lodging to an ever-changing cast of artists-in-residence, sustainability students, and tourists. This is an old farmhouse, complete with two senior dogs, a cat, dozens of chickens on the property, several large rescued animals like alpacas and pigs, and even the occasional fly or spider finding its way inside. We hope guests will have realistic expectations when they arrive, and not be surprised that this 19th-century farmhouse doesn't feel to them like a hotel. That being said, the art on the walls, in-house wall-to-wall library, impressive gardens, and loving people and animals are sure to charm. Just about everyone who visits Better Farm falls in love with the place!

  • Note: you're literally in an attic. Second note: you'll sleep on a thin cot. Third note: totally worth it to stay here. The room is there to really only sleep in. But that's all you'll want to use it for since the rest of the house is amazing, the land is beautiful, and Alexandria Bay is a short drive away. If you're on a budget, want to get away from the hustle and bustle, as well as want to meet genuinely kind people, stay here. I'd book again.

    Chris2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Don't miss out staying with Nicole and her kind eclectic guests. The farm has a busy look and feel which is so terrifically different for an Airbnb. The guests area, bathrooms and our rooms were neat and clean. Food delicious!

  • Book this place in advance before you stay, otherwise they won't have your check in information and won't give you a room.

My place is close to parks, art and culture, great views, and restaurants and dining. You’ll love my place because of the people, the ambiance, the outdoors space, and the light. My place is good for solo adventurers and business travelers.
Better Farm's first-floor loft is located in the side entranceway of the main farmhouse. The sleeping nook is up a ladder over the washing machine. There is a curtain for privacy from the library (located directly next to the laundry room), but please note there is no door for this space and it is a sleeping loft over an existing laundry area/entranceway that other guests and staff may use. Because it is a communal living situation, the house's upkeep is left largely up to its guests. Cleaning up after oneself and pitching in are part of the atmosphere here! The staff does its very best to ensure a clean space by changing linens before new arrivals, sweeping and mopping rooms, scrubbing down bathrooms, and dusting. This is an old farmhouse, complete with two dogs, dozens of chickens on the property, and even (gasp!) the occasional fly or spider finding its way inside. We hope guests will have realistic expectations when they arrive, and not be surprised that this 19th-century farmhouse doesn't feel to them like a hotel. That being said, the art on the walls, in-house wall-to-wall library, impressive gardens, and loving people and animals are sure to impress. Just about everyone who visits Better Farm falls in love with the place!
Redwood is surrounded by 12 lakes perfect for swimming, kayaking, fishing (or ice fishing), or hiking nearby. Horse and hiking trails abound; as do dusty old dirt roads and paved roadways that are any cyclist's dream. There is a very small "downtown" strip in Redwood consisting of two convenience stores, two gas stations, a community greenhouse, pavilion, two bars, and an upholstery shop.
  • Such a great stay! Spontenously booked, didn't look much into it before going and it was a great time! Exceeded what ideas I had going into it. Friendly and helpful hosts, great atmosphere. Would reccomend to anyone! Great hiking nearby as well! Just don't forget the bug spray!

  • Nicole is an extremely genuine person and has put her heart and soul into creating a home that fosters creativity, thought and a sense of belonging and community. It's a place where individuals from different backgrounds can share meals and ideas without judgement. I had an extended stay at the farm and got to know the interns, residents and art residents personally. I'm glad I spent a lot of time there as I was able to get an insight into the farm life complete with lake swimming, drive in movies, bonfires and other adventures. This truly was a memorable experience. I can imagine a brief stay in Redwood would yield a similar feeling of 'home away from home,' where you get to see the stars without the light pollution and indulge in the excellent collection of books in the library. Nicole, Mollica, Kenny, Matt and Jason are incredible individuals who work hard to make a positive impact on the community. BUT WAIT THERES MORE!! Ahaha if you're thinking of advancing your knowledge in sustainability have a look at their website to apply for a rewarding internship, go along to one of the workshops or work in the studio as an artist in residence. Additionally Better Farms is host to a community radio 88.3 'Better Radio,' which plays the broadest range of music from Neutral Milk Hotel to Leonard Cohen (mostly directly from vinyl). Despite my attempt, words still fall short.. :)

  • The Grass Lake Overlook and trail a couple miles from the house are awesome. A totally pure nature experience The lake was covered with flowering lily pads (late June) with an island in the middle. I thought I was in Asia before humans or maybe a different planet. Going on my list of epic sweet spots. Overlook is early in the trail making it accessible for young and old and the full length should satisfy a weekend warrior. Shhh...don't tell anybody else. If you like vegetarian cooking and nice people you'll like the house too.

  • This is not your regular airbnb place as one expects. It's unique and authentic in it's own way, and I loved it. And it would have been perfect had there been an extra blanket to keep me warm. :) Nicole was very helpful, I don't remember any other airbnb host putting so much of effort in making breakfast. I loved the variety of dishes she prepared. I definitely would stay there again if I travel that part of NY.

  • Better Farm was a perfect place for me to stay and unwind. I immediately felt relaxed thanks to Nicole and appreciated the warmness of other guests staying there. I rambled outside the house before leaving and thoroughly enjoyed the bucolic feel. It was much better than trudging across an asphalt parking lot finding my car. The feel is rustic and the perfect antidote to a rushed frantic world.

My place is close to parks, great views, and restaurants and dining. You’ll love my place because of the people, the ambiance, the outdoors space, and the light. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and big groups.
This is a rustic bunkhouse with one full-sized bed on the upper level, one bunk bed and one single bed on the first level (sleeping space for five in total). The cabin is next door to an outdoor compost toilet and rainshower. Guests are also welcome to use facilities in the main house, which is approximately 200 feet from the cabin (hot water, kitchenette, charging stations, common area). Breakfast (served at 9 am) is included in your stay! We also offer dinners for $12/person. If you need special considerations for meal times, please check with us at least 24 hours in advance. We can not honor all requests, but will do our best! The tiny home is equipped with basic solar-powered lights, sealed-in with doors and windows, and offers unrivaled access to the beauty of the North Country outdoors.
Better Farm is three miles down an old country road in the foothills of the Adirondacks. The Indian River Lakes Conservancy has several hiking trails just a few miles down the road, and we are surrounded by more than a dozen lakes, as well as the Indian and St. Lawrence rivers. It's truly an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. Better Farm doesn't have any formal hiking trails on the property, but you are welcome to explore all of our 65 acres of woods and fields.
  • It's an amazing place and Nicole serves really good breakfast.

  • Nicole and David were excellent hosts and very happy to share their knowledge and love for farming and sustainable living. They are very friendly and accommodating.

  • To give a little background to this review, this was the last night of a road-trip where my friends and I got the opportunity to visit Montreal, Ottawa, Algonquin National Park, Toronto, Niagara Falls and Lake Ontario. Better Farm was without a doubt the highlight of an already awesome trip for all of us. The hosts themselves, David and Nicole, are two of the coolest and down-to-earth people that I've met. They serve both a wonderful vegetarian breakfast and tea/dinner, made with fresh produce from the farm itself. They have an open doors policy that welcomes a diverse range of wonderful and friendly people, which we were fortunate enough to meet. We were also lucky to have good weather which meant, being secluded from light pollution, a great view of the stars (which I'm told can be even better with less humidity). Being from England, this was exactly the sort of experience I wanted out of American countryside and I hope to visit again sometime in the future. For any wondering whether to stay here I would highly recommend it.

  • If you are looking for a unique experience, this is it. The hosts, Nicole and David, model a wonderful way of living in tune with the earth. From check-in to check-out, they made our stay comfortable and educational. Our family of 5 found the Tiny House to be just right for a 2 night stay. The building itself is a work in progress made entirely of upcycled materials. Having access to the farmhouse bathrooms was a welcome bonus, though the nearby outdoor compost toilet wasn't bad at all. The farmhouse's library/sitting room was amazing; a great place to relax each morning while we waited for the tasty, vegetarian breakfast to be made. The highlight of our stay was David's farm tour. So interesting and informative. One day back from the trip and the kids have already started a kitchen compost bucket, thanks to what we learned. Our artist/writer/nature-loving teen hopes to return to Better Farm as an intern someday. One note of caution, read the listing description carefully. It is very accurate. If you are looking for a 5-star hotel, this is not the place to stay. It is a REAL farm with REAL roosters for an alarm clock, REAL pigs, REAL alpacas and REAL mud. For our low maintenance family, this made our stay phenomenal but it may not be for everyone.

  • This was a perfect weekend getaway for me and my kids. Nicole was a gracious, kind, welcoming hostess. The property was beautiful and peaceful. I didn't even know that I needed this kind of serenity until I experienced it. In the morning, Nicole's breakfast was amazing! Best waffles I've ever had and her homemade fruit compote was just the right touch. My kids were excited to have fresh eggs picked from the chickens that morning and, of course, they were delicious as well. Nicole was kind enough to bring me and my kids to feed the alpacas and horse the next morning, which they haven't stopped talking about since we left. We're already talking about visiting the farm again this summer. Fantastic experience if you need to step away from your busy life!

    Jen2017-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time. Nicole was a gracious hostess and awesome cook. If you come when it's cold--bundle up! There are so many things to do outside, you won't want to miss it. We fed all the animals and Nicole was able to show us where to do some great family friendly hikes.

The Birdhouse is a private, rustic cabin at Better Farm. There is a full bed, small dresser, and solar lights. Full amenities (3 bathrooms, common area and 1 shared kitchenette for guests on the second floor) are available in the main house 100 yards away. Guests to the cabin are also welcome to use an outdoor amenities station, comprised of a composting toilet and gravity-fed rainwater shower, located approximately 30 feet from the cabin.
The Birdhouse is an unusual, rustic cabin with gorgeous views of Better Farm's garden. In spite of its rustic charm, full amenities of hot showers, a shared kitchenette, library and WiFi are just a few steps away in Better Farm's main house and are available 24/7 to all Birdhouse guests. Please note that there is no heat source in the Birdhouse; therefore please check the weather before you book to ensure you are comfortable during your stay!
  • Great little cottage on a romantic farm/hostel. Nicole was great as were the other guests and her two dogs. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for somewhere off the beaten path, but bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper - there are some noisy roosters!

    Alexander2015-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • Our hosts were super accommodating despite our late arrival. We had tons of fun hanging out with the hosts, other guests and the site's furry and feathery company. This place really makes you feel like you're part of it, and I'd just love to stay for a week and partake more than our short stay allowed. Breakfast was phenomenal, and the house was charming. Recommended to anyone who likes meeting cool new people and having a more communal experience. The site is further to water than I thought but do take the offer of shuttle and kayak, and go for the nearby hike. 10/10 will come back.

    David2016-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • The farm is so relaxing, having farm fresh meals was amazing. Nicole was flexible with our arrival times and meal. The birdhouse is adorable. You can come and go from the main house it felt like a big group of friends there.

  • The birdhouse was a romantic and rustic getaway for any traveler wishing to experience unique lodgings. Nicole, other permanent residents, woofers, artists in residence and pets were incredibly welcoming and very kind. The birdhouse as well as the main house were well furnished and very clean! Her cooking was on point and very reasonably priced. I can't recommend a stay here enough!

    Jessica2015-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • Nicole was a perfect host. The Bird House was enchanting. It was impeccably clean (as was the main house), the bird and tree murals on the walls were a delightful touch, the mattress was very comfortable, and the flannel sheets were cozy. I heartily recommend this location. Nicole herself was full of great insights about organic lifestyles and sustainability. She had just returned from speaking at an environmental conference about clean water issues, and the dinner conversation was sparkling. Dinner is an additional modest cost and was the best Mexican food I've ever had. The farmhouse has a wonderful living space with literally 1000s of books and comfortable sofas and good reading lights. The farm is soothing and pleasant, with free range chickens softly clucking and rescue ducks chattering to each other. All in all, I couldn't imagine a better place to while away an evening. The other guests were equally charmed and charming.

  • Better farm was a really relaxing place to stay. Nicole is very nice, hopsitable and a flexible person. When we arrived she let us enjoy a glass of wine and also some good cheeses, while she was making us a nice dinner. We loved the house, especially the woodstoves and the library-room. Many thanks!

  • Nicole was a very warm guest. She has two dogs who are really friendly. The house was very clean and I would highly recommend staying at Nicole's place. The breakfast she served was really delicious. I am planning to come again in around May-June to explore 1000 Islands more and with no doubt, this would be the place I will be staying in again.

  • Nicole's Better Farm was a good experience and the farm feel is something undervalued in today's society. There's free range chickens worthy of pictures and video. There's an optional breakfast offering fresh eggs, it's a must. We enjoyed our time here.

  • Thank you for such a wonderful stay! Better Farm is a truly unique and quirky place. We loved the art show by one of the resident artist’s at Better Arts across the street, the dogs and chickens running around, the beautiful nearby lakes, and of course, the great staff who were all so kind, funny, and welcoming. The breakfast was also delicious; it reminded us of a B&B. We couldn’t imagine a better place to get away from it all and relax. This is truly an unforgettable place with unforgettable people. The only suggestions we have would be to vacuum the bedroom floors since the rooms were a bit too dusty and to improve the water pressure in the showers. And for people thinking of staying here, remember that this is a very old barn house and certainly not a hotel, but that’s part of its charm. Be willing to see occasional cobwebs, dust, and dog hair. We didn’t mind those things and would love to come back!

  • I booked this room for my husband. He thoroughly enjoyed his stay! He met tons of wonderful people while staying here. He really felt welcomed by everyone. Everything is as described. Nicole was lovely! Keep in mind this is a farm so there are animals, and it's not entirely secluded but everything is 20-30 minute drive. He considered it quite relaxing in fact. Thank you for the excellent communication, and for the accommodation!
