Thank you Richard & Stephanie
  • Word are ENTIRELY insufficient to describe the experience with Richard, Stephanie, and their otherworldly Shangri-La ...I'll attempt though: absolutely incomparable, superlatively warm and hospitable, truly magical, deeply relaxing and rejuvenating, utterly fascinating, painfully beautiful, and just plain extraordinary. Just visit...make the trek, DO IT!!! It's beyond worthwhile. (Just don't book it during the times I'll be returning...and in a perfect world, there would be many return visits) It absolutely, honestly, and with no exaggeration doesn't get any better than this. I'm too blissed-out and awestruck in this afterglow to continue!

  • What an amazing place! The yurt is astounding - you have to see it to believe it. SO unique, colorful, huge and SO beautiful! Richard and Stephanie went above and beyond to make our stay memorable - from birthday champagne and creampuffs for my partner to eggs florentine, pastries and a huge fruit plate by the pool in the morning. The grounds are also very well kept - beautiful gardens, cool outdoor art and many hang out spots. Clearly the owners love their home and seem to really enjoy sharing it. I will definitely come back. The other reviewers are right - there are many spots to stay in this compound and we had the run of the place. This would be a great place to bring a group.

  • We had such a fabulous stay at the Mongolian Yurt. Richard and Stephanie truly go above and beyond with everything they do. From the small details like the robes and slippers waiting for you in the yurt, to the amazing details found throughout their beautiful property. They're the type of hosts you want to spend time with and get to know. We loved talking with them and hearing their stories so much we ended up losing track of time and being late for our next stop! We hope to return again for a longer stay. One night isn't enough. Definitely stay for at least two nights if you can. Gorgeous place and incredible hosts made for the perfect stay. Thank you both so much!

    Nicole2015-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time at the Yurt - Richard and Stephanie were the perfect hosts. We had our three kids with us (ages 13, 10, 8) who had a blast staying at the Yurt and playing in the pool. Richard and Stephanie went our of their way to make the whole crew feel welcome. It is a truly unique place, and is a really a destination -- the history, one of kind dwelling, and the hospitality which leaves no detail unfinished. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a unique vacation experience.

    Niall2015-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Stephanie and Richard provided the most beautiful, relaxing experience at their home. They're both warm, welcoming, and ready to provide any help they can to make your stay comfortable. They have truly thought of everything- providing snacks, slippers/robes, and a wonderful breakfast, to giving a thorough tour of their property so guests feel comfortable. We relaxed in their hot tub under the stars, and enjoyed a peaceful night inside the yurt. Poolside breakfast was a real treat. It was so cool to see the artifacts and decor collected throughout Richard and Stephanie's travels. We can't wait to return for more than one night!

    kelsey2015-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • We went to visit the yurt for a weekend getaway. It was just that. From start to finish, Richard and Stephanie were very responsive, attentive to detail and fantastic hosts. The yurt itself is beautiful; artifacts from around the world; and very comfortable. Highly recommend this to anyone looking to go off the beaten path and enjoy one of the more unique vacations of your life.

    Nikhil2015-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • What an incredible experience! This place is entirely magical, with lots of neat corners and creative touches. The space alone would be worth the journey but what made it off the charts was the thoughtfulness and love from both our hosts. Delicious poolside breakfast, amazing massages by Stephanie (host) and Elaine (her friend), all in the quiet countryside of Gold Country. Better service than in the world's best resorts and a truly local (and Mongolian!) experience. I'll be coming back!

    Julia2013-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful delight for all the senses, our stay at Richard and Stephanie's Yurt will never be forgotten. From the palatial inner sanctum of our accommodations to the ingenious decor and amenities, these two world travelers have created a paradise. We look forward to returning again and again!

Greetings! We invite you to come stay at the stunning Mountain View Ranch, located just “up the road" from historic, downtown Foresthill. Meander just a short drive down Old Mill road, through charming homes, trails, and stately trees, until you are greeted by the majestic Crystal view mountains off in the distance. To your left you are greeted by a storybook setting graced by the spectacular backdrop of the forest and snow covered mountains and canyons beyond!
The "Tahoe style" house is impeccable, yet rustic and comfy. It is the perfect home for groups of wedding participants, hikers, runners, bicyclists, equestrian groups, or anyone who wants to "get away," make memories, and enjoy this peaceful, tranquil, breathtaking setting. The property is gated, and fenced, including two fenced pasture areas and even has a large two stall barn. It is adjacent the Western States Trail, and Bath Staging area. The master suite boasts a jacuzzi tub, and there is an outdoor spa on the lower level. The large gated deck offers a wonderful opportunity for adult guests to "camp out" under the stars!
The area is fairly quiet, private, and peaceful. So out of respect for the neighbors, we ask that a fair amount of respect be shown while enjoying our hamlet.
  • We loved this house! The view is breathtaking. We will definitely return! Thanks for everything!

    Debraun2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great and spacious cabin with a beautiful view! Plenty of room for groups - we fit 9 people quite comfortably. We enjoyed the terrace/balcony very much, where we had our meals while enjoying the sunrise and sunset. The host was very kind and accommodating. Definitely recommend!

  • Was going to a wedding nearby and this place was perfect for my friends and me to stay. Amazing views and lots of space, and the house is in good condition.

    Jonathan2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • View is spectacular. The home is clean and very roomy, great place for a large family or group of friends. We went for a wedding but would reconsider going back with the family just to hang out for a few days.

    Teresa2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Had an amazing time at the house, at night you can see a ton of stars. Hot tube is sweet and super clean. Perfect spot to get away in the mountains of California.

    Thomas2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Kathie's home was ideal for a weekend get away. The valley view from the deck/ hot tub is nothing short of spectacular. The kitchen was clean and well stocked and Kathie was close by to lend a hand if we needed it. I recommend this house to anyone looking for a scenic escape.

    Spence2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • The views are unreal of the mountains -- I've never stayed in a place like it! It's a wonderful home that's well-equipped for a great stay. We loved sitting out on the deck overlooking the mountains eating our meals and enjoying the scenery. It's only 15 minutes down the road from where we started our white water rafting trip so very convenient for an awesome outdoor weekend. We will definitely be back.

  • Brian communicated with us in a friendly efficient way and the space is awesome. We loved being in the area and the space is nicely appointed in the fashion of the times which made it special while still having the modern amenities that we all love. It was nice to have a common space and little cute white bunnies running around the yard. Would recommend and have to others. Thank you Brian Wanda and Rich

  • This home is a perfect getaway for a couple. Stayed here for 2 quick nights, but definitely recommend at least a week to stay. It's secluded in the middle of tall majestic trees that bring you to another state of mind. Seth was quick to respond and very hospitable. 5 stars for you!!

    Emily2017-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cabin! Very clean and spacious. Would recommend to anyone!

    Elizabeth2017-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Edward's house is so beautiful and in such a secluded and serene area me and my boyfriend loved it! There is a private driveway that leads down to the house and it feels like a really safe area. The only things to be mindful of is that there are no shades or curtains, which can be a little creepy at night and that the garage door was left open with no way to lock the access to the kitchen. But really other than that it was a perfect place to stay! It is super close to a bunch of hiking and camping spots, and the property itself is huge. The closest store is a couple miles down the road and open until 11pm, but even then Auburn is about 20-30 min away. At the house Edward provides a great selection of Dvds and a working woodstove as well! I reccomend this place to anyone looking for a cabin-like getaway in nature. We loved it thanks for having us Edward!

  • If you are looking for a nice casual secluded place in the forest, this home is perfect. A great getaway from the city's hustle and bustle. Our host was responsive and eager to please. Comfortable furnishings in a nice clean setting. Close to great hiking trails and lovely country roads for day trips. Outdoor patio area with charcoal bbq grill and seating for four to look at the stars. Wood burning stove for a romantic feel and heat for those cold winter nights.

    Terri2017-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful two bedroom house with a large master bedroom with an en suite AND a second bathroom between the rooms. It has vaulted ceilings throughout, large kitchen, and wood burning stove. The beds and couch were very comfy, the views are breathtaking and the staircase to upstairs is the coolest natural wood I’ve seen. Thank you again for all your hospitality and making our stay so memorable.

    Erika2017-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Anyone looking for a quiet getaway in the woods would enjoy a stay in this cabin. The interior is minimal, clean and spacious. The beds and couch are very comfy, and the wood stove fire can be very comforting if you know how to keep it burning. The host is very friendly and accommodating. The drive into Auburn is around 15 minutes and there are many hiking trails nearby to explore. I recommend a 3-5 night stay or longer if you have activities planned. The price is very fair! Would stay here again!

    Sorraya2017-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Cabin is quiet and cozy - lots of space for the price. We came here for a quick escape from SF (and an amazing bike ride nearby on Mosquito Ridge Road). Communication was easy, but there's no wifi and service is a bit spotty there. Good opportunity to unplug and relax in the woods!

  • If you are looking for a place in Foresthill, look no further. This house is beautiful and peaceful. It has a great sense of home that makes you feel as thought you are in your parents house. Beautiful property. Great room accommodations for a large group. Plenty of room for everyone. You can take walks around the property and there is even a friendly greeter doggy that we all called "Pup Dog" for lack of a name. Robin is a great host and we appreciate everything she did to make our stay comfortable. Very close to the wedding venue in Foresthill too! Perfect for us who attended a wedding while all the hotels nearby were booked. You won't regret staying here!

    Kristin2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • This home is beautiful and spacious! Every detail has been covered; the house is clean, orderly yet so homey! I loved waking up to have coffee only to wander around and appreciate the amazing sunrise and beautiful art pieces throughout the home! This was the perfect location to have my family together while enjoying the weekend of events leading up to the wedding at the Monte Verde Inn. I would highly recommend this airbnb to anyone!!

  • Robin and Brian's house is the coolest. It is very comfortable. The kitchen is totally decked out with pots, pans, and dishes. Everything was nice and clean ready for us. The linens were very nice, dare I say better than at home? We had a great weekend exploring the areas trails, saw lots of wildlife, lakes, creeks and TREES! Took a great drive down Yankee Jim's Road. Glad there wasn't anyone coming the other way. If you need or want to stay in Foresthill I highly recommend this real log Cabin.

    Carl2017-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful home. Comfortable & very clean with quiet & peaceful surroundings.A lot of heart & thought went into every detail. So much more comfortable and relaxing than a hotel. My family had such a nice visit. We bar-b-qued on the grill & spent the evenings playing one of the many board games that are provided. The perfect place for a family time.

    B.2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had the best family vacation ever at this gorgeous cabin! The peaceful surroundings and fully stocked home made it a dream for us parents. Robin and Brian were so hospitable and were available when needed but gave us our privacy. We have lots of family in the area so we utilized the outdoor deck more than any other area for meals and conversation. The kids loved having their own rooms/space upstairs and played outdoors the entire time! An absolute gem of a place, we will definitely stay again the next time we're in town!

    Tara2017-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at this beautiful house. Robin was the perfect host and her communication was clear and pleasant. The house is spacious, clean and very comfortable. The nearby swimming and hiking made for an all around enjoyable trip.

  • View is to die for and the house is well appointed. We did not need anything once we arrived.

    Lyle 2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • This house is amazing! Beautiful view out the back as pictured. Jared has thought of everything in this house. Bedding, spare blankets, heaps of plush towels, shampoo conditioner etc. My husband and I stayed in the America room, which is across from the study. The study becomes the spare room. We had our 22 month old on the foam mattress and our 4.5 year old on the air bed, in the study. In between the two rooms is a bathroom. So that end of the house was a great set up for our family. We had another couple with us that stayed at the other end of the house in the master suite. There are security cameras in the living space. The kitchen is very very well stocked. All in all amazing place. There are also lots of boardgames there too.

    Rachel2017-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment you drive through the beautiful forested neighborhood and up the driveway you can tell that your stay will be wonderful. Jared welcomed us upon our arrival and provided a walkthrough of the home's amenities. From the moment you walk through the front door you will be in awe of the stunning mountain views and open floor plan of the main living space. Our family enjoyed the serenity of sitting on the large deck in the back of the house while watching the sunsets as well as playing board games and watching movies in the large vaulted-ceiling living room. This was a truly remarkable find and we are grateful we were able to stay three nights in this wonderful place.

    Jason2017-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had the best experience ever at Jared's place. Jared provided us with very precise instructions for checking in and checking out, and half way during our stay, contacted us to offer help in case we had any problems ( which we did not as everything was great at his place). Jared's house is outstanding in terms of location ( breathtaking views from the terrace and chairs in the back yard), and it is beautifully decorated, clean and in pristine condition. It has everything a family may need for a very comfortable stay. We stayed at the house at the end of July, when the weather was fantastic, and spent most days doing outdoors activities. Yet, the fireplace and excellent tech setup at the house, would also make it perfect for stays during cooler months. A true paradise and outstanding host!! Definitively a 10/10 experience.

    Graciela2017-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome space for relaxation and a spectacular view! Jared was a great host. Highly recommended.

    Daniel2017-07-06T00:00:00Z

  • Anna Maria's home is fabulous. There is a lot of space, it's very clean and the pool is perfect. The pool is located right outside the backdoor next to a great patio. Our kids pretty much lived in the pool for our entire 3 day stay. As a bonus, we saw a family of deer right from the pool, just outside the property. The area is very nice as well, with lots of great nearby hiking trails, and scenic drives through the impressive nature of gold country. We definitely hope to be back!

  • What an amazing home and guest! We were greeted so warmly by Ana and entered to find a home in which every detail had been thought through! She has left a bottle of wine for us as well as some chocolates and a hand-written welcome note. Even more, she has brought gifts in the form of puzzles and dress up clothes for our two daughters! We couldn't believe how thoughtful she was! The house itself is wonderful. It is very clean, light-filled and filled with all the linens, kitchen supplies and amenities one might need. The pool was perfect and very clean--we spent most of our time there! The setting is peaceful and we saw deer and plenty of birds and small wildlife. We would certainly return again! Thanks Ana for your wonderful hospitality!

  • Anna Maria was very nice, and her place is quite large.

  • An amazing place to stay. So clean and quite. Anna is very friendly and helpful. The house looks much better than in the photos. Highly recommended!

  • Anna made us feel right at home. When we arrived she had a fire burning and wine waiting to be opened! The house was better than in the photos with lots of extra sleeping spots for all our kiddies. The area is beautiful and only 30 mins from a great sledding place. Although every store was sold out so plan to bring your own. I would definitely come back again. Thanks Anna!

  • Quiet, scenic retreat as described. Had a wonderful visit to the area, great host communication. Would definitely stay here again in the future.

  • This is a great little spot to spend a quiet weekend. Feels secluded and tucked away, but easily accessible—with Georgetown amenities and a well-stocked grocery just around the corner. We very much enjoyed our stay!

    Brian2017-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Rose was very good at communicating and the house was just as advertised. Very well maintained cabin in the woods!

    Patrick2016-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Rose's cabin was fantastic. She had put in a lot of energy into making the cabin a perfect place for a getaway. Everything was done very thoughtfully. The hot tub was sparkling clean, the sauna house was incredible, the little wood burning stove inside (we didn't really use it since it was hot) was cute, they have an AC a beautiful reclining chair, a nice cute kitchen, they had an outdoor grill etc. I don't want to repeat everything in the description, but everything was tastefully done. The showers were incredible. The shower in the bathroom was great (and the bathroom is rather large for a cabin) but the shower in the sauna house was very large, modern and a standing in the rain like experience. Specifically, I'd say the pictures actually don't do justice to the place. The pictures are nice and representative, but the place is far better and much more comfortable, clean and newer than what I had anticipated. Its definitely private if you wanted that and surrounded by trees. There is some wildlife around - we had deers stop by three times which was cute. The night sky is very starry given that the place has no light pollution but still very close to a big grocery store. We also spent some time at the American river and did a short hike. We tried to leave the place in the best condition that we could. Don't be put off by the rental agreement etc - its always nice to treat the place as though its your own and to leave it as though you were continuing to stay there longer. I have stayed at a lot of AirBNBs for weekend getaways and this place is definitely one of the best that I've stayed at. I hope to return back to the place since its a great quick getaway from San Francisco.

Although we haven't hosted with Air BnB, we have hosted many families and friends from around the globe. Everyone always has a wonderful stay and loves it at our "mini resort". There is something for everyone here. You can hang out and enjoy peacefulness by the garden or the pool or be as loud and wild as you like. We have noodles for floating away the day and monster squirt guns for water games. The jump rocks and grotto are also especially popular. Enjoy a camp fire at the fire pit and don't forget to bring your fixin's for S'mors. The neighborhood is very nice for walking and there are trails less than 2 miles away at the Weimar Institute that go on for miles. If you like lake activities, Rollins Lake is about 8 minutes away. Boating/skiing/ kayaking, etc.
  • We had a really great stay! Rhonda and her husband were very gracious. My family had complete access to their amazing and picturesque gold country property. Our stay was peaceful and very private. The outdoor hot tub and bathroom/shower were particularly nice. I can highly recommend this property. It was perfect for our family with a 4 yo and 6 month old. Thanks again!

  • Great place very happy to have stayed here!

    Miles2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Rhonda was extremely hospitable and thoughtful, she communicated throughout the day of our arrival, spent quality time ensuring it was ready, and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. I forgot to mention that this was a same day booking. Simply fantastic service. When she says that it is an oasis she means it. The pool, the fire pit, and outdoor environment is absolutely one-of-a-kind. The quarters were nice, while a little cramped for 9 guests, most of them spent their time outside because who wouldn't here, so it wasn't an issue. On our final morning she even made homemade waffles, and brought them out to the pool. I highly recommend this to anyone, and would gladly stay again. Thanks for the wonderful time!

Great location on 3 acres in a quiet neighborhood. Perfect for a family reunion or a restful get-away. Lots of gold country history, near the Bear River, American River and Rollins Lake. And a just little over an hour drive to beautiful Lake Tahoe.
  • Daryl was an exceptional host. From the very beginning he quickly made contact with us and was always available for any questions. He made sure the home was very comfortable for us with air temperature and amenities. The home was spacious, cozy, clean and fresh. The sleeping arrangements were comfortable. The outside areas were very peaceful. A wonderful retreat for our family's wedding weekend in Auburn! We would definitely come back! Thank you, Daryl!

    Patti2016-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • My stay was amazing. The house was awesome, the front, back, and side yards were incredibly spacious, and the neighborhood was great. Overall a truly first class experience. Would definitely come back again. Would definitely recommend.

    Sky2015-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Daryl was a very gracious host. He was extremely communicative leading up to and during our stay and very kind and understanding. At one point during our stay, a small child in our party banged up a screen door. Upon telling Daryl about this, he was very understanding and more concerned about the welfare of the child than his screen door. This kindness was illustrative of the caring host Daryl is. In addition to this, the spaciousness of the place was perfect for our large group to relax and explore the nearby Yuba river.

    Max2016-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Spent a weekend here while we went whitewater rafting. House had everything we needed, it was clean, spacious, and had a great outdoor area. Daryl was great.

    Eric2015-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Daryl's place for 2 days and had an absolutely amazing time. The house has several indoor and outdoor hangout areas that are perfect for large groups. We grilled on both the days we were there and the kitchen is very spacious and well equipped. I would gladly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a relaxed weekend.

  • This house was beautiful and had everything needed to accommodate our party of 10. Plenty of bed space, extra blankets, towels, laundry room and stocked kitchen. Daryl was extremely helpful and responded very quickly to all of my questions. We would love to visit again and recommend it to anyone visiting the area!

  • Beautiful home in the mountains with plenty of room to celebrate my father's 80th birthday and Thanksgiving. Our hosts were easy to communicate with and left us their home spotless and all decorated for the holidays. Even with a houseful of people, there was always a quiet place to go with three living areas and lots of outside chairs to enjoy the view. The gourmet kitchen was well stocked and huge so no one got in each other's way preparing Thanksgiving. My family was very impressed that I found such a perfect place for our family reunion.

Though our home is nestled in the forest, it is easily accessible via I-80; a mere 2.8 miles off that main thoroughfare. The accommodations have a private entrance for guests to come & go as they please. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. We are also a great option when I-80 is closed - use the instant-booking option and we will provide additional instructions.
Please note: Local law requires we advise guests that $3.60 of nightly fee charged is a Transient Occupancy Tax that will be paid to Placer County on the guest's behalf. This is not an additional fee - it is already included in the nightly rate. Our accommodations feature lots of privacy, remarkable views, and in the warm months, a large deck for morning coffee & complimentary pastries. We have nearly 6 acres with a beautiful park-like area - perfect for a picnic lunch.
  • Stay here! Amazing place, beautiful home, great location in the forest just off the highway. Gary and Allie were beyond accommodating, helpful, communicative, and kind. Their place is immaculate and new with a wonderful, cozy feel. Thank you both!

  • Amazing hosts who provide delicious baked goods and all the cleanliness of a hotel. Easy communication through out our stay. Oh and the best was the beautiful land to explore right outside our door. The nature was alive with color and feeling. Lovely room to stay warm in and come home to. I would definitely come back :)

    Tatiana2017-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Gary Allie' s place is perfect! Beautiful, relaxing setting. Sitting on the deck, watching the hummingbirds and looking at the trees. Peace and serenity. So much creativity, all the way down to the little welcoming book. Gary & Allie were perfect hosts, checked to make sure the room was cool enough, and the baked goods were truly a delicious little treat! I really look forward to staying there again! Next time, I will stay when I can go out and explore the area! Thank you, Gary & Allie!

  • Gary & Allie were such kind, friendly, and easy-going hosts! Their home was in a quiet, beautiful location, yet still easy to access. We were also welcomed with homemade cookies and muffins, which was a delightful surprise. Gary & Allie were always very quick to respond to any messages so all communication was very easy. The room itself was nicely set up with a Keurig, coffee, hot chocolate, and towels, & could be accessed through a private entrance. This was a perfect place to stay on our way up to Tahoe from the Bay Area! 10/10 will stay here again next time!

    Raena2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Gary and Allie's home is in a beautiful, wooded setting, very close to the Monte Verde Inn (26 minutes) where we were attending a wedding. I had a lovely time there. I wish I could've stayed longer. It was exceptionally comfortable and clean, and Gary and Allie were lovely people. I have back problems, so I was worried about whether their bed would be soft enough for me, but I found it was quite comfortable. We loved the coffee and tea offerings, the delicious cookies and muffins she left us, and the convenient use of the fridge and microwave. It's a wonderful space.

Retreat to a beautiful, secluded Gold Country getaway with views of the High Sierra Mountains and the American River. Relax in the sun by our large swimming pond! The perfect place for small corporate or group retreats, or your next family vacation!
OUR PROPERTY is uniquely located on a ridge with expansive views of the American river and the majestic sierra mountains. The house is peacefully secluded and, though you would never know it, is completely off grid. It is powered by solar panels, with a backup generator. We are located 10 minutes from I-80 on a 3 mile long dirt road. Right in between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe THE HOUSE has two private bedrooms, one with a queen bed, one with a full bed. The large upstairs loft includes one queen and one full bed along with a fold out couch bed. The house can comfortably sleep ten on beds with the possibility of 2-4 more on couches and roll away beds. There are three full bathrooms, two downstairs and one upstairs. THE GOURMET KITCHEN is fully equipped with everything you will need including a large 6 burner gas range with griddle and oven, large refrigerator, microwave, and outdoor gas and weber BBQs. THE DINING ROOM seats 6-10 people with deck access to accommodate even more. IN THE SUMMER time, dive into our large swimming pond with water trampoline, and take a walk through our large garden with varieties of fruits and vegetables for your culinary enjoyment. There are also public access lakes and rivers located nearby. IN THE WINTER, gather around the central wood stove with a cup of your favorite tea, and take in the views of beautiful snow capped mountains. The dry sauna is also a plus on a cold winter day. We are approximately 45 minutes from the nearest ski resort. -Be aware that although we rarely get much snow, it is always a possibility and four wheel drive or chains would be required.
Our home sits in the middle of 130 scenic acres of secluded and very private property. There are spectacular views of the high sierras and the magnificent American river. The giant oaks, pines and firs provide shade for the large azalea, camellia and rhododendron groves but plenty of sun for the many summer flowers, full orchard and year round vegetable garden. There are foot paths and seating for quiet times of reflection and a redwood boardwalk that leads to a pavilion and quarter acre swimming pond. The pavilion area seats many and could be used for an outdoor meeting area or just for fun! There are no power or phone lines because the lodge is completely powered by solar! This is no rustic cabin, built with the design of a Frank Lloyd Wright home this modern 3300 square foot home has all the comforts, they just happen to be in the middle of the woods.
  • We said at the resort for 2 nights and had one of the best experience of our life. Jim was extremely helpful and made sure we could find the place. He said significant time explaining the various things we could do and make the best of our time. He was available and could be reached if we had a quick question. Nothing in the home was off limit and he truly wanted us to have a good time and build memories. We went with in with 3 additional families. The place did not feel cramped, there was adequate sleeping space. The pond and the patio are excellent and we made the best use of our time. I would recommend the place to friends and family. This is perfect weekend get away place for families

    Amit2015-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at the property for 2 nights with a group of 10 and it was amazing. Jim was there when we arrived to show everything we need to know about the house and swimming pool. He came back the next day to show us the rope jump into the swimming pool and we had lot of fun/fear doing it. We are thinking about coming back next year, it was awesome! Thanks Jim.

    Antoine2015-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • Jim's house is one of the most enchanting properties I have ever set foot on. A group of 11 of us traveled there on the 4th of July, and it was the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of our busy San Francisco lives. From the moment your car hits the gravel road that leads to the property you feel like you are leaving reality and entering a magical space. He has taken meticulous care to create a paradise. Our trip was perfect. The house sits on 130 acres and runs completely on solar, which was a really neat experience. The views from the house are wonderful - the pictures do not do them justice. The pond is massive, much bigger than we were expecting. The house has been decorated in a very eclectic style, and although there were 11 of us there was more than enough room for us to fit comfortably. I believe 10 of us slept on beds and one on the couch. We grilled, swam, played pool, BBQd, played board games on the deck, picked plums in the orchard, and even went down to the river on the last day of our stay (it's within driving distance and there are cliffs you can jump off of). Jim was an incredibly warm and gracious host. He went out of his way to accommodate all of our needs and took extra care to make sure our trip was perfect. He took his time telling us about the history of the house, which we really appreciated. He also made himself very available in the week leading up to the trip -- I never had any trouble contacting him with questions or concerns. And once we were actually at the house he completely respected our privacy. We really felt the house was our own for a few days. I cannot say enough about the time we spent at this house! I felt depressed when I made it back to my cramped apartment in San Francisco and was already wishing I was back in the woods. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get away for some time -- be it a corporate retreat or a family reunion or a bunch of friends like us! Hats off to you, Jim, for a beautiful house and an amazing stay. We will certainly be back!

    Tuhin2014-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Jim's place is like an oasis amongst the redwood trees. You truly feel like you are secluded in nature. Jin and his son were the most gracious hosts. The house was extremely comfortable and had everything you could possibly need and want. The pond was amazing. We had planned to leave to go to the river one of the days, but ended up not wanting to leave the house and all it had to offer. We will be back every year. Best Airbnb experience to date!

    Raffaella2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing property! This house has absolutely everything you want and need. Jim is such a nice guy, he took the time to tell us the story of the property (it's very sweet) and you can tell he cares a lot about it. Highly recommended!

    Laurel and Sky2015-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • We've been to Jim's house a few years ago and so we were really excited to come back for a weekend trip with friends. The house is fantastic and the lake is without a doubt a nice thing to have. We'll definitely come back! Jim is very friendly and easy to reach out to. We couldn't hope for a better host.

    Stéphane2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • Jim was the ideal host, very welcoming and flexible with my requests. I can't say enough about how much we loved the experience of this magical retreat. It had everything we could have possibly needed or wanted. The kitchen was perfect for the feast we prepared, spacious with a huge range. We ate outdoors with a spectacular view of the river valley and sunset. The pond was the perfect temperature and Jim provided a giant stack of towels, plenty of seating, pond floats and a rope swing for the daring. A truly relaxing and fun experience. I think every single guest mentioned coming back next summer for a reunion. Thank you Jim for providing the perfect place for my 40th birthday celebration. Unforgettable.

    Tiffany2015-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Jim greeted us at the beginning of our stay and walked us through the many need of the home. Being in the woods and off the grid, there was a lot to know, but was easy to maintain. We got a tour of the extensive grounds and even a bottle of champagne in the fridge.

The large deck is additional outdoor living space with outside bar, table & chairs, umbrella, lights, gas bbq & ice cart. Very festive!!!
  • This cottage was comfortable, roomy and very clean! It contained everything a family might need for a weekend away. This is a small, beautiful rural home of rustic design in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California. It sits on a hilltop surrounded by over 10 acres of pasture, fruit trees, and forest, with views of the Coast Range. There is a large covered porch and spa. We recommend our place to guests who seek peace and quiet and a taste of country life, but who are not interested in remote cabins deep in the forest.
The hilltop view, country seating, distance from neighbors, and proximity to a variety of activities are what people find most enjoyable about this home. Within 20 minutes, you can visit various up-and coming wineries, Auburn and Placerville, with there many shops and restaurants, Coloma, the site of the discovery of gold in California, and the American River with its popular fishing and white-water rafting/tubing. The home has a new heating and cooling system.
The area consists of farms, horse ranches and country homes on at least 10 acres (about 5 hectares) each, so there is lots of privacy. We recommend trips to local wineries that are scattered throughout the Sierra Nevada foothills. These newer wineries are reminiscent of the Napa Valley wineries over 30 years ago. The middle and south forks of the American river are popular for swimming, kayaking, and white-water rafting (there are many rental companies and whitewater rafting tour companies in Coloma). Horseback riding and hiking are very popular, with many miles of excellent trails. Lake Tahoe is about an hour away and accessible via two freeways (Hwy's 50 and 80).
  • We were looking to escape the Vegas heat and see some trees and mountains and just chill out. We wanted something rustic with all the modern conveniences. Staying at Skylark was exactly what we were looking for and exceeded expectations in every respect. “Charming” does not begin to describe it. Tom and Jeff are outstanding hosts and have literally thought of everything. The cabin and their property is maintained to perfection. It is a cabin but has everything you could possibly need—washer, dryer, dish washer, stove, wifi, flat screen tv, blu ray player, everything you need to grill, an amazing hot tub, huge porches with patio furniture—the list could go on and on. We plan to stay here again and were sad to leave—we loved Skylark!!!

  • Skylark exceeded our expectations. The setting is gorgeous and the pictures can't begin to capture the beauty. The home was clean, comfortable and inviting. Master bed was very comfortable. There was nothing better than beginning the morning with coffee on the porch and ending the day with a soak in the Spa! Jeffrey was pleasant and responsive to work with. We sure hope to stay again!

  • This is a wonderful place to stay and enjoy all that the area has to offer. We loved the horses we passed along the driveway, the wonderful views, and the hot tub in the evening! It is an open concept layout, with exposed wood beams, and lots of natural light. The deck is perfect for dinner outdoors, or sitting and looking at the stars. A quick drive has you at a local grocery store with extremely friendly and helpful staff - they even drew a map to help us find places. We loved our time in Greenwood.

  • Jefferey's cabin is now my go to place when i want peace and quiet. The cabin is perfectly situated on top of the mountain. The open floor concept is perfect.

  • We spent the most relaxing, amazing weekend retreat at Skylark. The house was breathtakingly charming, yet thoroughly modern in terms of amenities. We soaked in the hot tub under the cover of the wrap-around porch, watching the wind and rain whip over the trees and mountains in the stunning view. Cooked delicious meals in the most well-equipped kitchen of any vacation rental I've ever been to: high quality cookware, charming dishes, sharp knives, everything was easy to find. Slept in all morning in the cozy, comfortable bed. Our only regret: we didn't have time to make a fire in the (quite cool-looking) wood-burning stove. Our hosts were fantastic. They provided us with tons of detailed information before we arrived, including such detail as where to find specific tricky light switches! They were incredibly responsive to questions, but gave us complete privacy. They turned the heat and lights on before we arrived and even filled the fire box with firewood for us in case we needed it! Now I'm looking for another reason to come back to this picturesque, comfortable, perfect retreat spot.

  • 2nd trip to Skylark, already planning our winter trip. One of the more awesome places to get away from it all!

    tom2016-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing! Great views, relaxing, peaceful, yet has wonderful creature comforts like internet, TV, stereo, a pool, and a hot tub! The house itself is so perfect, full kitchen with fabulous stove! The shower was beautiful, and hot water was wonderful! We also had fun introducing the kiddos to a record player! I'm already planning when we can go back!

The Crow’s Nest takes you back to the 1906 lodge for a small resort in the foothills of the Sierras. Although attached to the main house, this upstairs guest suite has its own private entrance with views in three directions. The Crow’s Nest provides a queen bed with a small kitchenette, dining area, sitting area, and writing desk. We are minutes from outstanding skiing and snowboarding. Also, minutes from swimming and rafting, and commercial rafting and kayaking.
The Crow’s Nest takes you back to the 1906 lodge for a small resort in the foothills of the Sierras, nestled among the tall Ponderosa Pines and majestic Oaks. At 2000-foot elevation, we are above the fog and below the snow, and this property was a desired destination for people from the Bay Area, who wanted to get away to the clean air and warm sunshine, and possibly to hunt game in the woods. In the early 1900’s, they would take the train, on the original transcontinental railroad tracks, to Applegate and spend several days ,or weeks, at what was then called Walmond (for the Walnut and Almond trees), and later known as Pine Knoll Resort.
There are lovely places to walk, from a extremely easy canal walk to a more strenuous 3-mile hill climb. We can direct you to enjoy these areas. The original Transcontinental Railroad runs through our valley and is still in use. Many visitors find the sound of the trains to be nostalgic and charming, but it might wake you up the first time if the windows are open.
  • Mary place was very clean, great location, nice quiet place in the foothills where you can get a good night sleep. The bathroom and half is a very good quality.

    Jerry2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage in Applegate is wonderful. It is immaculately kept. The breakfast is a wonderful stock of pastry and fresh fruit; a great coffee setup; fruit juice. We really enjoyed the breakfast nook in one window and the firm, comfortable bed in the other. There's enough closet space to have stayed weeks...and a bath and a half! Our host Mary is so sweet, helpful and down to earth. When we told her were looking for a place near where our son was playing airsoft (in Stockton) she cautioned that she was over an hour's drive from Stockton. When we asked if there was a nice hike or walk, she wrote out detailed directions for a lovely walk around the area. So glad we stayed there. Hope to have the opportunity to stay again.

Sliger Mine Ranch is not just a place to spend a night or two. It is a destination for many to enjoy a great time without even leaving the property. Guests have access to beautiful hiking trails that lead to the American River as well as a beautiful sandy beach right on the American River where they can swim, have lunch and enjoy the outdoors. There are horses to watch roam the ranch as you BBQ your meal and sit outdoor in one of two dining areas.
There lots of hiking trails as well as trails to ride horses. Special arrangements can be made for youngsters to experience companionship with the horses as well. Ask about the horse experience package for youngsters.
  • Potato was a fantastic and generous host! He provided a warm welcome to our group of 6 (+ 1-year old baby) with a kitchen full of tasty treats and was also very accommodating to our late check-in. We were in the area to run the Canyons 100km trail race and Sliger Mine Ranch offered a very comfortable and cozy accommodation. The setting was great and we all enjoyed relaxing next to the fire pit and in the hot tub after the race. Hopefully I will have the opportunity to return and would love to spend more time exploring the ranch and hearing of Potato's adventures on the trails! I would recommend this venue to all!! Thanks again Potato.. happy trails!

  • Potato and Tamara are full of knowledge! They were very welcoming and the property was everything we needed. Thanks for sharing your home with us!

    Nicole2016-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Potato's ranch. The place was well stocked with snacks waiting for us, and the horse stables and dogs outside were a nice touch. Also close to the MF American River with a private beach. We had a great time and would go back anytime

    jeremy2016-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • Potato was quick to respond to all our inquiries before we arrived, and very kind when we met him and Tamara (also very kind) in person. The description of the place was accurate EXCEPT the listing said Wi-Fi and cable would be available. Neither are available at the actual ranch house. If we wanted Wi-Fi we had to go up to the owner's back deck. Normally we wouldn't care about the cable except that we wanted to watch the Warriors play in the Finals :) Tamara was very generous and invited us into their home to watch. This place is great for kids but really only kids about 7 years and up, or babes in arms. There are some hazards (rotting wood on the stairs to the hot tub, electric fences). My kids LOVED exploring the property and the trails all around. My boy especially loved making a fire in the pit in front of the ranch house. The house is funky and rustic but totally fine for a night. We would return and recommend it to friends.

  • Potatoe knew we were coming in late so he did everything imcluding making sure we were on the right path , to sending picture of entrance to his property . He stopped by the next day , showed us his beautiful Arabian horses , and simply made us feel as if we were family . He found out I was making a ballon arch for the wedding we were there to attend , and came down with portable inflation machine

  • Potato is great and this location is fantastic. Off of 80 by a bit, Potato is a great host and this is an amazing location to stay. We brought a toddler and she had a great time watching both the horses and dogs running around the place. We also cooked up some hotdogs on the firepit outside the house. Very easy. Very good.

    Andrew2016-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • We needed to make a quick trip to Cool California and had planned to stay in Auburn. After researching Airbnb we found Potato Richardson's place and the Sliger ranch. So glad we did. Potato and Tamara are incredibly friendly and they and their dogs greet you the moment you arrive. There were wonderful home baked cupcakes and macaroons in our kitchen and a refrigerator stocked with condiments and drinks. They even supplied dog treats knowing that ours would be coming with us. The beds were comfortable and the place is quiet. Potato has lived in the area for 40 years and is a wealth of information as well as stories. Also, recommended great restaurants in the area. Horses have been a part of his life since he was a boy and he is a multiple Tevis Cup winner. (if you don't know what that is, look it up, you'll be impressed). We are certainly looking forward to our next visit there and getting to know Potato and Tamara even better.

  • We had a great time during our stay at Mary's place. She is a wonderful hostess with attention to detail. It really made us feel at home ! The place is beautiful , especially the beautiful backyard. The house has a charming feel to it. Huge kitchen makes it a plus(for those like me who love to cook ) with all utensils that one might ever need . There was an air conditioning unit provided in the living room area which made our stay very comfortable. Lots of books to keep you engaged ! A couple of games too .We enjoyed every bit of our stay & would surely visit whenever around the area for our next outing .

  • Mary's place is wonderful and cozy and charming! She went above and beyond with snacks, juice and water, the beds were comfy, backyard breathtaking and peaceful and check-in was super easy. Communication was great, and she was flexible when we got a later start than we had hoped for. You will hear trains, but that was expected and we loved it!

  • My husband, mom and three grandkids enjoyed our stay at Mary's home. We have never been to this part of town and were very fortunate to be able to be a part of this community for the weekend. Mary's home was quaint and inviting. This nicely maintained property is the perfect place to get away from the city and relax with kind people. We have adapted to Airbnb travel in the past. So, we are not very needy. But, Mary provided many nice snacks which the kids definitely appreciated and she made herself accessible if we needed her. A menu and the town information was left for our perusal and was very helpful. Mary directed us to a few places where we were able to enjoy the lake. Everything we needed was available for us and even some things we forgot. The beds were very comfortable and my husband enjoyed studying in the reading nook. Although, the market is very close and the kids enjoyed walking into town to get ice cream. We all enjoyed relaxing in her back yard as the kids explored safely around the yard searching for sticks and insects. Mary's place accommodated my family very well.

  • Beautiful and charming house in the Sierra foothills. This is a piece of American History, but freshly renovated with taste. We will come back!

    Etienne2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this place! The only thing missing was Grama standing at the kitchen stove! Steeped in history, but with cozy modern comforts, this early Colfax railway house was the perfect home base for a weekend of playing in Grass Valley and Nevada City – by day hiking early miner trails, touring Empire Mine, swimming in Scott’s Flat Lake, and by night slurping root beer floats at the A-1 drive-in, seeing movies at the old Del Oro, and a live performance of ‘Chicago’ at the historic Nevada Theatre. The sweet gold-mine-of-a-house at 100 Forest Hill and Depot Street is roomy enough for three adults – with its enormous kitchen, meandering living room, furnished porches, two beautiful bedrooms and baths – all charmingly decorated in soft retro colors and fabrics, with antique elements throughout. And mercy me, the treats! Our host left us well provisioned. After one especially warm day, I had an irresistible urge for a popcicle and was ecstatic to find a whole box of orange creamcicles in the freezer. She knows her hospitality, Mary does! Before arriving I asked her if she had any information on Colfax history, so she checked out books for me from the library! It was fun imagining the original residents sitting on the porch overlooking the town, as 3000 people cheered and threw their hats in the air when President Theodore Roosevelt arrived by train directly below the house. Thank you, Mary, for throwing your hat in the air for us and making our visit so perfect. We all agreed this is one rail stop we would stop at again.

    Melanie2017-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Mary's place in Colfax was perfect. It was my girlfriend and I along with another couple and we were in town for just 2 days attending a wedding in Nevada City. The house was easy to get to and was clean and perfect for the four of us. Absolutely no complaints!

  • We had a great time at Diane's cabin. Diane was a great host - explained everything about the house, was accessible when needed, but stayed out of the way otherwise. The cabin is very well located - very close to the I-80, yet very quiet and private. There are great hiking trails starting almost from the house (the walk down to American Canyon is strenuous but highly recommended), and the house has lots of activities for families: a ping pong table, a basketball hoop, a badminton court, an outdoor hot tub, games and more. The house is a bit old, but still charming. It is spacious, clean, and well appointed. Overall, highly recommended for a family or two to share.

  • We had a great time staying at Gold Run. The location is quiet and in the woods. There are hiking trails nearby, and all in all a great place for an escape from the city. We were very tickled by the fact that there were robes hanging in the bedrooms for maximum lounging capability. Kitchen had everything necessary to cook several meals. While we were a party of four, the house had plenty of capacity and extra beds tucked in every corner for more people. Diane was a warm and gracious host with clear instructions for everything posted around the house. Success!

  • Diane was an amazing hostess and my group and I had a really great time during our stay. The property is beautiful and cozy and Diane was super helpful in suggesting various places to go. I would definitely recommend staying here and would love to book with Diane again in the future.

  • We had a lovely time at the Gold Run House over Thanksgiving weekend. The cabin is spacious yet feels cozy, and the forest all around makes you feel quite secluded. I was impressed with the cabin's size and the feel of its decor and aesthetic. We loved exploring the hiking trails just up the road and the walking tour of historic Dutch Flat, a little further up the road! Even though it rained most of our second day, we had a great day watching old movies from Diane's collection, playing board games, and soaking in the tub while the rain fell around us. Diane made us feel very comfortable, answering all of our questions and making sure we had access to ample firewood to keep the place cozy. She was very accessible by text or by just walking up to her house nearby. There are two main bedrooms that are good-sized as well as an upstairs with several beds, so we were able to accommodate some friends who were passing through the area. The Wi-Fi was a bit spotty in the living room, but worked well in the game room and the master bedroom. Overall, I highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a relaxing weekend with friends and/or family in a secluded mountain location!

    Ari2016-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Diane's place was really great! We had no problem fitting our small group in the lodge, but there were plenty of beds, and pull out beds in the closet for more people. Everything you could have possibly needed was provided. Overall a great place to stay!

  • Diane's place is a jewel. Very cool house for a couple or a group. Fun stuff to do or just relax. The spa, bathrooms and kitchen are first rate. She has really thought of everything. It would be great any time of the year.

  • Donna was wonderful in welcoming us and helping to make our stay as perfect as it could be. We had about 20 family members there at the most during our 3 night stay, and the cottage was spacious, inclusive of all amenities, and a literal home away from home. The kids had a blast playing indoor hide-and-seek every night, and got their fill of movie-watching in the theater. The music room was well-loved by everyone, as well as the various games and generous dining area. It was so nice to be able to host brunch where everyone could sit in the same room, plus listen to a family concert from the seating area. We had almost everything we needed in the kitchen to prepare for an event we were hosting off-site for 50-60 people. The ample room in there and the plentiful cooking equipment were more than enough to meet our needs. It made maneuvering about very easy with sometimes up to 8 of us working hard on cake decorating, casseroles, and more. Early morning and evening strolls were refreshing, with a gorgeous view of the sunset each night from the deck or the little swing near the basketball court. The rooms were comfortable, and there were enough extras that we could have had many more join us if needed.

    Gypsy2016-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Donna and the house were great. She reached out several times with key information and was responsiveness to our needs. We hosted a 35 person group and had plenty of space for meeting, planning, and fun. Wish we could have spent more time there and plan to recommend to friends/return ourselves.

    Alex2017-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Our quilting group of 13 thoroughly enjoyed our week at the house. It was absolutely perfect for us. Everything is spacious. We especially loved the large kitchen. The fact that it had a massage room was a plus. We had a local masseuse come in two afternoons. Donna is very accommodating, helpful and anxious to please. The on-site manager, Sallie, was very helpful. Made our stay totally enjoyable.

    Ruby2017-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Built in 1926, this updated "cottage" is actually 13,000 square feet, with lots of bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs and kitchen/dining downstairs. The place is very clean but not stuffy, and perfect for our 60th birthday celebration with 24 people. The house can accommodate more (extra cots and air mattresses are in storage), however there are only three queen beds, with the rest twins. This makes it particularly attractive for large ski groups and scouting expeditions, but less so for hoards of cuddly couples. Although several of the bathrooms were under renovation while we were there, the remaining ones were more than adequate. There was plenty of hot water, and it was nice to know there was AC, which we didn't need, even at 80° outside. There is a sauna (we didn't use), an outdoor spa (under repair), and some exercise equipment. The home theater was a welcome escape for some, while nearby hiking was the activity of choice, with breathtaking views along the 5-mile Stevens Trail down to the North Fork of the American River. As foodies, we loved the well-stocked kitchen, with two of every appliance, plenty of pots & pans and room to move. The dining room tables are wide, facilitating expanded meal-time conversation. Donna made us feel at home, and texted us from time to time with other fun things to do. She offered to remove their family pictures from the walls, but we found them charming, knowing a real family enjoys their vacation home! The caretaker Sallie lives in an adjacent house and was very helpful, friendly and accommodating.

    Daniel2016-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • The place is great! You will never get bored. The owner is super kind, accommodating and friendly. Tons of room but need a bigger size of bed. Most of the beds are twin size, not comfortable for couples, just right for kids. Otherwise, it's excellent for bigger families and groups. FOR SURE WE WILL COME BACK TO THIS PLACE! Everyone loved it!!!!!

    Noraida2016-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Donna is wonderful! Our group loved the place, and she was very welcoming and hospitable. The place is absolutely amazing - hot tub, theatre, great kitchen, tons of beds, cool dinos

    Sri2017-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place was perfect for our 35-40 person group. A lot of rooms and a lot to do. We enjoyed our stay very much!

    Imani2017-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • Our company's global leadership team stayed here for 4 days & 3 nights for our executive offsite. We are a start-up, so it was important we find a good value for our money. We also needed enough bedrooms and bathrooms to comfortably accommodate 13 people (and their privacy) - this house was the perfect fit for us. The house is very comfortable, very clean, and has a kitchen stocked with enough pots, pans, kitchen tools, etc to easily accommodate the "cook ourselves" team dinners. The two refrigerators were also helpful, as we had one stocked with alot of food and the other with all our beverages. We made good use of the hot tub, movie room, ping pong table, and foosball table - not enough time for karaoke this visit though. (Maybe next time!) Thank goodness for the house air conditioning, too, as the area experienced a heat wave while we were there. A special shout-out to Sallie as well, who was on-site and prompt to answer any questions we had. So nice to have you there to help! All in all a terrific experience - thank you Donna!

Are you coming from the Bay Area on your way to Lake Tahoe, Reno or the Sierra Nevada Mountains? Leave the evening before and spend the night in Colfax. Next morning you will have only a short distance to go to get to your destination. Colfax is located on Interstate 80, halfway between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. Colfax is also close to Grass Valley and Nevada City. Better yet, my house is within easy walking distance from the Amtrak rail road station.
The cozy downstairs bedroom and the spacious bathroom with shower are totally separated from the rest of the house and accessible from the outside with a numbered lock, allowing you to come and go as you please. The queen-size bed has really soft, 100 percent natural cotton sheets and there is a big stack of fluffy towels in the bathroom waiting to spoil you. The deck right outside the bedroom is very private and yours to enjoy during the warmer months of the year. You are welcome to roam in the garden. There are many places to sit and enjoy nature or to contemplate life.
Colfax is a quaint small town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. There are a couple of good restaurants in town, but only a few are open on weekends. My house is on a very quiet cul de sac set in a beautiful garden setting.
  • I had a wonderful stay, the place was just as advertised. Clean, quiet good location. Ingrid was an excellent host and provided great information about the area.

    mike2017-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Ingrid is an awesome host and also very welcoming. She's also very knowledgeable on other places around the town. The AF base is only 25-30mins away from her house with the shortcut she provided us. The first night my daughter and I stayed in the bedroom downstairs, Ingrid already had our room and bed mattress warm and ready for us to sleep on, which we thought was so thoughtful since we got in later that night. We also had our own spacious bathroom with hot and cold water. The second day, we hung out with her in the kitchen and talked stories and ate pizza since she was gracious enough to let us use her washer and dryer and shared her company with us. She's very hospitable and we really had a lovely stay.

  • Ingrid was very welcoming and made us feel right at home. The room was cozy as described and felt very private. The room and bath were very clean and modern. Ingrid invited us up for tea when we arrived and it felt like we were sitting with a good friend, she made us feel so welcome. She also had put in our room dried apples and persimmons that she prepares herself! In the morning she fixed us apple pancakes that were delicious! It feels like we have a friend in Colfax and look forward to going back again.

  • Ingrid's place is exactly what I needed for my stay nice room and Ingrid is very good company

    Andy2017-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place to stay! My wife and I were looking for a quick getaway for a ski vacation in Tahoe and we couldn't have been more thrilled to happen upon this gem of a host. Situated just 45 minutes from sugar bowl, Ingrid's home was a great home base for our ski trip. The room was clean and had all the amenities anyone could ask for and more. The heated mattress pad and space heater were perfect after a chilly day on the slopes, and the in room water kettle was great for the morning coffee that Ingrid had provided. Beyond that, having the separate entrance was nice to come and go as needed and the quiet of the area really gave us the chance to relax. However, better than just the room, Ingrid is simply a lovely person to get to know. She greeted us with tea upon first meeting us, and woke up early to make us her amazing Apple pancakes for breakfast. She gave us great ideas for dinner and was just a charming person to talk to in general. We would absolutely stay here again for any trip to Tahoe and can't wait to come back.

  • Dear Ingrid, I came as a guest and left as a friend. You expected my after a beautiful hiking trip at Lake Tahoe with such a great dinner with some of your friends. I never expected after such an impressing day in the nature such an impressing and warm welcome. Ingrids Apfelpfannkuchen at the morning are the best start into a day. So, dear Ingrid, I'm happy to say "Auf Wiedersehen!" instead of "Tschüss!". Ganz liebe Grüße Clemens

  • Very nice and comfortable accommodations. Thank you Ingrid.

  • My husband and I enjoyed meeting Ingrid and your lovely home. Staying at her place felt like staying at a friend's home. It was wonderful getting to know her and hear her story. She are an inspiring woman. The guest room and bathroom were very clean and private. Her home is located not too far from restaurants and shops in Colfax; a historic town in Tahoe.

  • Jacqueline is a fantastic hostess. She put a lot of thought into her little cottage and really wants her guests to feel taken care of. The bed is nice and there's a comfy chair to work on your computer. For breakfast Jacquie brought warm blueberry muffins and fresh quiche. Thank you Jacquie!

    Lisa2017-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • We were so blessed to discover Jackie's little cottage. We had a last minute road trip stop over, and she was very easy to communicate with and arrange a later check-in. Comfy bed, fantastic decor, and enough amenities to put together a quick meal! Plus, it doesn't hurt that she is super kind, generous, and an amazing cook herself. She provided us with treats upon arrival and for the morning. Jackie anticipated our needs and asked great questions to make our stay effortless. We will definitely be back if we find ourselves in this area again! A superb location for those who want to stay close to the highway, and need a place to sleep at the base of the mountains. Highly recommended.

  • Jacqueline was an AMAZING host! My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary and she provided us with wine and chocolate covered strawberries! The house was adorable and super clean and her warmth and cute touches throughout really made our stay! I will definitely be returning!

    Natalie2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • This was a perfect overnight stopover right off the Interstate. I'd see it as ideal for summer adventurers like us, or, in the winter, for skiers who want to avoid the pricey hotels and nosebleed altitudes of the Truckee/Tahoe area. Freshly renovated and clean would itself be worth the money, but the included breakfast really puts it over the top. Thanks, Jacqueline, for the wonderful hospitality.

  • This cottage is quaint and perfect for a quick getaway. Jacqueline is an incredible host!

  • A wonderful cottage hosted by a wonderful woman! We were so impressed. Such a cute place, with excellent attention to detail in every way. The decorations and recent remodel made for a lovely stay. Not to mention what a warm and thoughtful host Jaqueline was! She went above and beyond, even making us delicious homemade breakfast and treats. She was also very considerate of our privacy and gave us a great recommendation for where to go for a fun day at the river! We looking forward to coming again.

    Andrea2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Jacqueline's place was really a treat. It was simple and comfortable, and extremely clean with organic cotton sheets! We had a great sleep. Jacqueline herself was welcoming and let us do our thing. She made us a lovely breakfast and sent us off with treats for the day. The location is perfect for river rats like us. We'll be back again!!

Welcome to the Cottage on the Farm! Enjoy a private getaway, but still be close to everything! 45 minutes from Boreal Ski Resort, 90 minutes from Tahoe or the Napa Valley, and only 2 1/2 hours from San Francisco, whatever you like to do, the Cottage is a perfect home base. Whether you like skiing, hiking, fishing, kayaking, wine tasting or antique shopping, or just relaxing, you have come to the right area.
For years our friends have enjoyed visiting in the cottage, and they have encouraged us to share it with you! The cottage has been newly refurbished--with everything! Brand new deluxe queen size bed with cozy bedding, table and chairs that look out the french doors on the property. Futon that can sleep two. There's also a small desk. There is no TV, but you can stream movies or videos on your device. Kitchen area has fridge, microwave, large toaster oven, crock-pot, electric skillet, rice cooker, blender, spices, utensils and more. We supply coffee, tea, creamer, sugar and small snacks for your convenience. If you need a special ingredient, just ask. We have a pretty well-stocked kitchen in the main house. There is also an outside cooking area, with a BBQ and 2 burner propane stove. Propane heat will keep you toasty. Our property is a mini farm, so there are some things to be aware of. There is an unfenced pond on the property, so we don't recommend bringing small children. Infants are ok, but toddlers are sometimes hard to keep track of! There is a washer and dryer on the mud porch of the main house that you are welcome to use if necessary. We also have an iron, ironing board and probably anything else you might need. We are here to make your stay enjoyable!
This is a rural area, but is close to so many attractions. Into micro brews or wine? Auburn has some great breweries and a great wine trail. Hiking or biking? We've got that! Did you say water? We are close to the Bear River, the American River, Rollins Lake and more! Are you a skier? Less than an hour up the hill to some great resorts. History buff? You've come to the right place. Check our website for lots of details. (URL HIDDEN)
  • The stay at the cottage was just what this momma needed! Three mom gal pals and I needed a one night get away not too far from Sacramento and Suzanne and eds place was PERFECT. The cottage was clean, cute and cozy. We received a warm welcome and anything we needed throughout our stay ed and sue were happy to oblige. Even shared butter and sour cream out of their personal fridge. We enjoyed laying out in the pool, sitting on the dock listening to frogs and smores by the fire (which was already set up for us, just had to light it). The bed in the cottage is sooooo comfy! It was just the reset one needs! I will deff be back and will be spreading the joy of this cute little place. Thank you Sue and Ed!

  • My husband and I like hiking, so we were looking for a place near some parks with scenic views, and we were very happy to find Cozy Cottage on the Farm place. We stayed here for three nights and we really enjoyed it. During our stay we visited several parks with easy/moderate trails, such as Hidden Falls Park and Auburn State Recreation Area. The most interesting was Foresthill Divide Loop Trail - 11.5 miles moderate trail with picturesque views. House is very cozy, secluded, clean and very comfortable. Thanks to Suzanne and Ed we felt like at home. They are great hosts, very friendly and welcoming. They were easy to get in touch with and answered all questions we had. Suzanne sent us a link to their website which is packed with loads of details on restaurants, wineries, sport activities, historical landmarks and so on. We haven't had a chance to visit this place before, so the website was very helpful! I would definitely recommend this place!

    Galyna2017-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • My daughter and I made a last minute decision to get out of SF for an overnight because the smoke from the fires was getting us down. The Cottage on the Farm was perfect. The space is cute and sweet, very clean and cozy, and everything we needed in the kitchen was there. Suzanne was a great host and we loved just hanging out on the property, watching birds (red headed woodpeckers among others!), breathing the fresh air, and relaxing. My only complaint is that we didn't get to stay long enough.

    Rahula2017-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Suzanne and Ed were wonderful hosts. The cottage was overstuffed with all the amenities you would need and it was immaculate. The fire pit was all made up for a cozy marshmallow roast and the ingredients for s'mores left out. We didn't do that, left it for Ed and Suzanne to enjoy! The bed and bedding were very comfortable, romantic. Sitting by the pond birdwatching was peaceful. It was nice to have the wifi to plan the next leg of our trip...

    Jim2017-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Suzanne, your place was very rustic and authentically perfect in every way. The twinkle lights around the property are a nice touch and we most enjoyed sitting around the campfire and making s'mores. It was like we had our own private campground.

    Craig2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is one of the best Airbnb's I've stayed at! There was wonderful communication and the most adorable decor. Everything we could have possibly needed was in the house, easy to find and we took a great hike just a few miles away suggested in the cottage guidebook. We were sad to only spend one night here.

    Elli2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • This place was amazing, the cottage itself is adorable and cozy!! The pond was also a wonderful place to spend some quiet time at, day or night since the hosts were very thoughtful in strategically placing lights around the property, the dock included! Suzanne and Ed provided much in the kitchenette of the cottage and even a complimentary wine bottle after our long drive! They gave us a tour and checked in twice to make sure we had everything we needed (and they really leave the whole property open to your enjoyment for whatever need). The location is close to Tahoe, Donner lake/museum, Nevada City (do not miss seeing this town! Try to catch the farmers market also!), And Auburn is a great place to stop for supplies and walk around. Overall an amazing experience and place, I definitely recommend this place!

    Fabiana2017-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • The hostesses, Suz and her husband Ed, warmly greeted us upon our arrival with their gentle black lab Buddy. The cottage is cozy, yet roomy with a sitting area and close to a full kitchen. Everything we needed was handy and new! Dishes, towels, coffee, tea, condiments and a wonderful downy queen size bed (and the wifi was easy and quick). The cottage is totally private. The only structure in site is a rustic barn with twinkle lights hung in a PEACE sign. The pond and surrounding trees on the property are full of wild life. We came to Colfax looking for new birds and happily found more than 30 species right outside the cottage. The cottage on the farm is perfectly located for day trips to the Lake Tahoe area, antiquing in the Auburn area or just hanging out under the oak tree watching life on the pond outside the cottage.....We will definitely be going back! Thank You Suz and Ed, our stay was wonderful.

Unwind from the grind! Our peaceful 1.6 acre property is in the beautiful Sierra Foothills, a mile from the Bear River, and a 5 minute drive from Colfax and I-80. The Hut is a 400 square foot guest cottage up the hill from the main house. We believe less is more, and smaller scale living feeds the heart and soul. Life of all kinds abounds here. The black oaks, firs, and pines provide the canopy for fruit trees, plant foods, and herbs. Come escape to the woods...
The hut has a sleeping loft that is not full height. Climbing a very sturdy ladder is required. The full size pullout sofa downstairs is the other sleeping option. There is electricity, with everything operating on a small scale. Come here expecting simplified living. Complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and oatmeal is provided. Breakfast in the main house is available on occasion - feel free to inquire!

  • Karen's place is amazing! If you are in this area you don't want to miss staying at this beautiful, magical place.

  • Karen's hut was the perfect place for my partner and I to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet. It is even cuter and cozier than I'd imagined! Karen, Jordan, and their sweet dog Pilot were wonderful hosts and we felt so at home. I'll be looking for excuses to go back to Colfax to stay here again!

    Morgan2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Can't say enough about Karen & Jordan. They've created a little piece of heaven by a fun river around 30 min from Nevada city. Their property is lovely and beautiful and the amenities in the hut were comfortable and the perfect woodsy getaway. Not to put them on the spot, but since Karen was around and available during our stay, she even made us breakfast and carted us around the river, making sure we had a fun float! She was an incredibly gracious and hospitable host. Between the relaxing time spent on their lovely property, the fun times at two nearby rivers, the wacky fun we had in Nevada city by night, Karen & Jordan hosted us for a very memorable getaway weekend. Big thanks!

    Ryan2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • This hut is the loveliest little getaway. You have all the privacy you'd like but Karen, Jordan, and Pilot are there if you'd like to chat or hang out as well. Definitely try the swing out at night, it's a wonderful adrenaline rush. Keep in mind that in the summer season it does get quite hot in the hut but leave the windows open as night falls and it'll cool right down. Karen was so communicative after booking giving the clearest instructions to ensure the smoothest travel experience. Especially coming from 4 hours away. Karen and Jordan went above and beyond as hosts. Highly recommend and definitely will come again. This is the perfect Airbnb for those who want to unplug an appreciate what nature has to offer.

The guest cottage at Stone's Throw Farm is a perfect place to relax and recharge in the country or to use as a base camp for your all-season adventures in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Well-placed access point to river country, hiking, biking, and South Lake Tahoe resorts. This charming bungalow offers a vaulted ceiling, privacy, and a full kitchen: great for short or longer term stays. Guests are invited to learn more about the surrounding organic farm, and even participate if they want!
Set on a working organic vegetable farm, this private cottage is a wonderful retreat from the city, just 2.5 hours from San Francisco and 45 min from Sacramento. It's perfect for 2 people, and can hold one more adult or child with the sofa bed. Historic downtown Colfax (served daily by Amtrak's California Zephyr train) is just minutes away by car or foot, and the cultural riches of both Grass Valley and Nevada City are just 30 minutes down the road. Rivers, mountains, hiking trails, and ski resorts are all located nearby and we're happy to make recommendations!
Colfax is a charming railroad/gold rush town just off of highway 80. It has a full sized grocery store and a Starbuck's, but also boasts top notch eating spots, antique stores, and a new independent music/art venue. Try Café Luna for delicious burgers and Mexican cuisine. Wood-fired pizza is definitely worth the stop at Pizzaiolo. The Colfax Theater (URL HIDDEN) just reopened and plans a full roster of music, dance, and performance. Hiking and swimming at the American river is just a short drive down into the canyon, and the majestic Yuba river is only 45 min from here. We can help direct you to our favorite hiking trails and other cool sites in the area.
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Stone's Throw Cottage! Easy-to-follow directions led us to the cottage, where we were greeted warmly by Tim. The cottage was clean and comfy and had everything we needed. The area guide provided by our hosts had lots of useful tips, and we ended up visiting two of the swimming holes suggested - we definitely recommend Mineral Bar and Hoyt's Crossing! We would love to come back and stay here again soon.

  • Steven's place was really lovely-- secluded but just a ten-minute drive to town. It was so peaceful on his farm, and everyone there was so gracious (they had a vase of flowers waiting for me and fresh tomatoes and peppers from their garden) and also knowledgeable about the area. Steven recommended for me a beautiful hiking trail, above and then dropping down to the North Fork of the American River. I would definitely come back again and would highly recommend this to others.

Our Colfax 1600' sq. cabin is a slice of heaven on 3.8 acres. Watch turkeys and deer meander by from our brand new huge deck! We only accept 100% nicotine free guests: NO SMOKING. NO EXCEPTIONS! Save time: state you are nicotine free in your introduction. We can sleep 4 easily, and up to 7 if we must! We can't do more than 7. We don't do groups with 5+ females because we are on septic. We have recently upgraded the FLOORS! During HWY 80 road closures WE are always accessible!
This is a RUSTIC style 1600 square foot cabin, about 5-7 minutes from highway 80, where you can spend quality time with your family and friends. Our remote location is by design. (We only accept non nicotine users. Please acknowledge this in your inquiry! No smoking OR vaping!) We have done everything we can to represent this property accurately. If you read the WHOLE listing, it should give you a clear picture. Our two plus bedroom home, is on 3.76 oak covered acres, 1/4 mile off the main road! Both the house and the garden are always improving! (right now we are focused on the garden!) Jamie is obsessed with the gardens! Inside, we have a moderately open floor plan and a relaxed rustic country feel. Our reviews reflect the way the house WAS, not the way it IS as of MARCH 2017! Basic use by 2: includes the GUEST bedroom ONLY and the rest of the whole house except the porch. Basic use by 3 or 4. There is a Master bedroom, which is made availabe to groups of this size, but the enclosed porch is still our domain. Basic use by 5: Please use the couch in the library for an extra bed, but there is no dresser available in that room. Enclosed porch still not included. Use by 6 or 7: We open enclosed porch which can also sleep two. A large arch opens from the great room, to what is legally but not practically, a third bedroom. We use it as a library instead. We have a variety of games, books, movies and music, to foster a relaxing atmosphere. We have wifi and chromecast. We personally use a TV subscription that travels with us, so you may not have TV unless you do too. Our cabin is simply and comfortably furnished. We just recently added a new love seat and couch combination. The library has a couch as well. If an extra bed is needed, use THE LIBRARY COUCH (but please make up with sheets from the hall closet!) The living room couches are not very good for sleeping on at all, and we ask that they are NOT used for this purpose. The rugs throughout the home are a variety of genuine Persian, contemporary, machine-made but Persian style, and fur (why we can't have animals). The floors were installed in FEB 2017. The porch was built in FEB 2017. We did a complete REHAB, not a remodel, so there has been a lot of work that you won't be able to see, but the house is now in perfect structural condition. The enclosed porch, our Winter Garden, is usable as a sleeping area, on for large parties. There are two twin beds on the porch, a day bed and a trundle underneath. Both have memory foam pads over mattresses. There is neither heat nor a/c on the enclosed porch but leaving the french doors open keeps the room quite comfortable. There really is nowhere to store clothes though, it's just a sleeping area. Sharing OUR Master bedroom, if you have 2 in your group who prefer not to sleep together is available upon request, with advance planning and ADDITIONAL COST. We do NOT offer the closet and we keep it locked with a key lock to avoid confusion. Cook in the large full kitchen (with a gas range including oven), if you prefer to eat in. Basic spices and many kitchen supplies are available to you. Please do not eat food from our freezer or consume our alcohol. If you see a product is almost gone, please inform us, or replace it. There is nothing like having a meal planned and finding someone used up all of a needed ingredient we no longer have due to guest use. Barbecue on our charcoal grill, rather than gas, - it creates juicier, more flavorful food than the gas grill we have at our other home. It only takes a very few minutes to fire it up with our coal tower, (no chemicals needed!) and we have plenty of mesquite charcoal available for your use, plus pitched kindling to start it with. It is NOT a wood burning fire pit though, as you will see in the pictures. DO NOT ADD WOOD to the already burning briquettes. We stay in our "Cottage", a secondary building, if our presence overlaps with yours. If you wish, Jerry might include you in whatever meals we have, but do plan to provide and prepare your own food. (Jerry is a fab cook!!!) If Jerry cooks for you, it will be done in the main house. The Cottage kitchen is not really adequate for family style meals. Dine either in the separate dining room or large kitchen nook. We have seating for up to ten, but we would never rent to that large a group with only one bathroom. Wood is our primary heat source during the winter. A wood burning stove is located in the great room, providing cozy and romantic winter warmth. It is also very dangerous to touch when it is being used so we do not allow its use with children under 10 present. Jamie just tripped and burned both hands on it for the first time. It was not fun. There is furnace heat as well for families with young children. We have great air conditioning for the summer months. However, we feel safe opening the windows at night and getting fresh air during the summer months, and seldom run the a/c ourselves. We hope you will prefer to cool the house at night and save the environment. There are EIGHT Gardens, with an extraordinarily long growing season, which we are working to restore to their former glory (after being a rental for a few years) which surround us on three sides, as well as above the house on the eastern hill and behind the back yard. The deck is on two sides of the western side of the house. The back yard is just getting started on being rehabbed. The side yard will not be rehabbed this year. It is still under duress. We have a hot tub, which is awesome and is located off the library. It is NOT GUARANTEED as part of the amenities. Consider it a bonus. We don't charge extra for it, but neither do we promise it is available. Gentle slopes allow for easy walking around the yard and grounds. Our chicken coop stands empty, an enclosed vegetable garden and green house, will over time bring our home back to its original glory. There are berries and grapes growing wild. Help yourself! Chains are almost never required, yet we are close to serious snow in the winter, where they will be. We do get a few dustings of our own snow at the ranch, which we call "postcard snow". During all of the road closures of highway 80 this winter we have remained open. The main road where we have our address leads right to the Bear River! Our driveway, (a quarter mile long!) comes off the main road and passes three other houses. *the bison was humanely put down by a family member and all of the meat consumed, by our extended family.
COLFAX is a town of great significance, in the very important Californian "Gold Country" of the Sierra Foothills. Colfax is roughly equidistant between Sacramento and Truckee (40 to 60 minutes). We are about 25 minutes from Grass Valley and Nevada City via 174 and about 20 minutes or 15 miles above Auburn, to Rollins Lake or the American River. Each of the towns mentioned has a great deal of their own history. OUT AND ABOUT: PANNING FOR GOLD: Bear River is right down the road from our home, just a few miles outside of Colfax. Bear River is famous as a still productive location for the hand panning of gold! All you need is a gold pan, something to sit on, and a container in which to store your collected gold! When you get tired or hot you can just swim or tube in the icy waters to cool off! RAFTING: The American River is across Highway 80 to the east and has great water activities. "The Colfax-Iowa Hill Bridge to Ponderosa Way Bridge run is the most popular section to run and has been a favorite for California rafters and kayakers since the mid seventies. This 9.5 mile run contains many steep drops and boulder slaloms, providing some of the best whitewater rafting of the 3 forks of the American river." Excerpt from the "North Fork" tab of the American River rafting website. KAYAKING: Either river, or lake, will provide hours of sun and fun. SKIING: is world class. Closest is Sugar Bowl, with Boreal nearby. Northstar, Squaw, Alpine Meadows, and Incline, are all within about an hour. Boreal and Incline are best for less experienced skiers. Northstar is great for the average to well above average skier (free lessons for level 6+). Serious double black skiers will skip them and go to Squaw, Alpine or Sugar Bowl. FISHING: Rollins Lake is the Bear River's premier rainbow and brown fishery, according to the AppealDemocrat, and fishing can vary dramatically according to the season. Stampede/Bocca Reservoir (farther up the highway, just past Truckee) is one of the leading kokanee salmon fishing lakes in the West. Anglers will also find plenty of brown, mackinaw, and rainbow trout. Fly fishing is popular at the lake, according to CaliforniaGreatLakes. CELEBRATING: Downtown Colfax offers old town celebrations and a family feeling you don't get in larger communities. We are home to the Fire and Iron Festival, (with a little burner feel) and a fabulous July 3rd Celebration among many others! ARTS: The Colfax Theater is state of the art both in projection and sound. They will be hosting movies, live theater as well as musicians, plus they boast the largest dance floor in northern California. EATERIES: The food is great at most every spot we have tried. Sandwiches from the grocery store are FANTASTIC. The pizza by the market in town is among the best we have ever had in the traditional style. Pizzaiolo is fantastic for a lighter oven fired style. You will love Dine and Dash, but you will stay to relax! We just got a Beach Hut Deli. SHOPPING: Quaint stores dot the main street in town, with locally produced gifts and art. Grass Valley and Nevada City have awesome shopping as well, if you like to spend your days poking around historic towns (we do!) Auburn is about 20 minutes away, with a greater variety of businesses, and services along with a historical downtown area. HIKING: According to MVTrails, "The Stevens Trail is one of the most scenic and accessible trails in our area. Originally built as a toll road for pack mules between Colfax and the gold fields of Iowa Hill, it slopes gently downhill for about 3.6 miles to the confluence of Secret Ravine and the North Fork of the American River. It offers breathtaking views of this designated "Wild and Scenic" section of the river canyon." TRAIN: There are trains in and out of Colfax, and Jamie just took her first trip. Great for a day trip! Food and alcohol on board! You can go either towards Oakland or Reno. ACTIVITIES IN and ON the PROPERTY: GAMES: There are games, and playing cards, plus a new sound system for your rented movies and TV series. We have about 30 movies. Streaming movies is possible but we don't do it ourselves. WALK: Our oak covered hills take a while to walk, featuring deer, turkey, and fox, cutting through the property. RELAX as you sip your coffee in the early morning or enjoy a glass of wine on the deck in the evening. barely seeing evidence the nearest neighbor in any direction! Keep an eye out for those deer and other wildlife! We have rarely seen skunk and racoon, but they are there. BIRDWATCH: SierraFoothillsAudubon lists dozens of birds that you can watch from our deck, or while hiking. WILD FRUIT PICKING: Blackberries abound in the summer and you can pick them to your hearts content. Same with with wild cherries, if you can beat the birds to them! There are wild grapes, if you are ambitious and blueberries if you are fast! WE have wifi, but if you need to print, the library offers printing for 15 cents a page.
  • Jamie met us when we arrived, and had set up the house for us. She had already pre-filled the wood stove, and set out place settings for us. The house was spacious and clean, and had a ton of spices at the ready for any cooking. we actually used the charcoal grill for two nights that stayed. They had just planted some new plants on the side garden, and the surrounding area is serene, even though it was pretty close to the center of Colfax. The last night we used the hot tub after a day of hiking, and it was wonderful. It's right on the side porch, so it's easy to jump in and out. Jamie and Jerry were very friendly, and made sure that we had everything we needed. They even let us borrow their Netflix rental!

  • This house was exactly as it said it was. A lovely place in a rural area. My boyfriend and I felt very comfortable renting the house, because the host would answer our questions so promptly if we had them. I would recommend this house to anyone!

  • Jamie and Jerry came by on the last day of our stay. They are great people and our only regret is we didn't have more time to socialize with them. Jerry knew the area and shared some interesting tidbits that made it fun. The pictures represent the house perfectly. It was great for our party of 5. There was plenty of room for our movie screen and projector set up. We were all impressed at the cleanliness of the house and the peace and quiet at night. Good location with easy access to Bear River and Rollins lake (short drive). Wonderful family get away.

  • This is a great place! We love hiking down to rivers and had our choice of numerous spectacular hikes within half an hour. Steven's Trail was our favorite. The house is very comfy and clean, the kitchen well stocked, the hosts generous and attentive if anything was needed. The back deck is serene for morning coffee or evening serenade and cocktails, we had a great romantic getaway. Would be comfortable for a family of 4 as well. Hats off to Jamie and Jerry for creating a warm, welcoming and relaxing vacation house.

  • Jamie was great and super informative. The cabin is nestled in a beautiful u-shaped garden in the foothills. Everyone in downtown Colfax is so sweet and ready to talk about all the history of the area. The cabin is prestine-- super clean and comfy. We utilized the stocked kitchen and hot tub Each night of our stay! I would definitely recommend staying here if you find yourself explorint the California Goldmining foothills.

  • It was definitely a fun getaway. The whole goal was to eat, drink, and be merry. We had plans to go to check out the local, go hiking, and stuff, but that didn’t happen. We found ourselves just letting everything go! The fireplace was so awesome, it made the whole place cozy! Monday, we decided to stay in. We played board games that we brought, there were some there that we played! It was really relaxing. We watched a couple redboxes. Nothing beats just chilling hard! Sunday night, we cooked dinner. Pretty much wine and dined. My friend Noah is a chef. He cooked a lot and all the kitchen gadgets are there! My friend was on a wheelchair the entire weekend; she said the space in the cabin was perfect. It wasn’t small or anything. Only thing is to get on and off the deck. It was my goal for all of us to disconnect from reality, but my friend had a laptop and she used WIFI to get some of her work-related stuff done. Not only I’d recommend it to friends, family, but I’m thinking of renting the entire week in a couple of months so I can go snowboarding with friends!

  • We stayed in the Gold Country "cabin" for two weeks. It's a spacious and comfortable 2 bedroom house with an additional sunroom. The floors are unfinished lending to the cabin feel but it is clean and so serene. Its located in the country but with very easy access to hwy 80 to get up to Tahoe or 49 to go to Grass Valley and Nevada City. We felt like we could go out or just stay home and eat blackberries which grew abundantly along the driveway. We bbq'd on the deck one night for dinner which was so relaxing. The kitchen was great for cooking but the fridge is small. The furnishings are comfortable and relaxed. The washer and dryer was a wonderful addition since we stayed for 2 weeks. Hosts Jamie and Jerry are super responsive to communication. We would definitely return.

  • Jamie and Jerry were able to accommodate us and our 4 month old with last minute notice. They were still finishing up with some home improvements, but the space is nice and large. The area is beautiful and we enjoyed the peaceful setting. Jerry cooked a great breakfast for us as well!

  • Amy was incredibly nice and really knowledgeable about the surrounding area. We came for a short 1 night stay before skiing the next day and it was perfect. The RV is really cute and clean and has everything you could want. She even provided us with snacks, beer, bottled water you name it! We will definitely be back next Tahoe ski trip!

  • We had a fabulous time at Amy's!! Amy was a great host and told us many places to go. We went to the lake and checked out Nevada City but we're also just as content to hang out on her land, use the BBQ, and relax. Thanks Amy!!! I will be back!

  • Amy is a 5 star host! Her quaint little trailer was cosy and very well appointed with everything you need and then some! She was very communicative and her directions were precise... Super easy access to everything you could need within 5 minutes by vehicle, yet feels like you are away from it all! My son loved the pool virtually at your door step when you exit trailer. I will definitely come back again and will recommend to friends and family!
