The best of both worlds - Our place is in the beautiful mountain countryside of Western Maryland outside the city of Cumberland. Yet, it is a short 5 minute ride to the city center, art and culture, and state parks and lakes. Close to the C&O Canal for biking and Rocky Gap State Park. You’ll love our place because of the gorgeous views, the quiet, safe location, the ambiance, and the friendly people. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and furry friends (pets).
The apartment is basic, clean and in a quiet building. There are 2BR and 2 Bathrooms, a Living Room and an Eat in Kitchen. There is a nice view of the mountains in Maryland and a quiet, country setting. It shares a main door to the management office but it is a separate contained apartment.
The neighborhood is quiet and a country setting in the mountains of Maryland.
  • Quiet and safe location with nice people. Natasha and David were always very helpful and accessible when needed. Would stay here again.

My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers and families (with kids). The Cottage is a quaint, white, Cape Cod style house built in 1950. It sits high on a hill in the heart of Maryland's Appalachian Mountains in Allegany County. It is surrounded by views of Wills Mountain and Shrivers Ridge. The Cottage sits amongst a 652 acre managed forest. Visitors have spotted deer, turkey, rabbits, squirrels, black bear and a multitude of song birds. NO WiFi
Vistors have listened to coyotes, whippoorwill and woodcock while resting on the screened-in back porch. The house is filled with lovely family heirlooms. Custom artwork by the owner of Mockingbird Studio is displayed throughout the place and available for purchase by talking to the owners of the cottage.
It is a quiet, residential neighborhood with views of the mountains.
  • Dan and Angela were great hosts! We really enjoyed Jacob's cottage. If you are in the area we would recommend staying here! Cozy and comfortable.

  • Jacob's Cottage is the perfect off the beaten path place to stay. We enjoyed sitting on the back porch while enjoying our farm fresh eggs and watching the deer play in the field.

  • We celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary here, and simply enjoyed being together in a peaceful, well-outfitted location. For those of you who enjoy birds, we watched House Wrens, Phoebes, Chipping Sparrows, and Brown Thrashers, and we listened to many other field birds and the Cuckoo, and at night had a Whippoorwill serenade and the dance of fireflies. Just lovely to get out of the city!

    Mary2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Jacob's Cottage is lovely. My two daughters, three grandchildren and I were very comfortable. Sitting on the back porch in the morning with coffee and watching the deer was fantastic. Then in the evening sitting around the table and playing cards. Dan and Angela were the perfect hosts. This is my go-to place! Cindy

  • I book this lovely home for our doctor every time she comes to work at the hospital. She really enjoys her time here.

  • This cottage was a great place for us to stay while on the bike trail. Dan graciously offered us a ride from town. Biking back onto the trail was only a short 6 mi. Fresh eggs in the morning were delicious. Ambience was very quaint and adorable.

    Paul2017-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • A stay at Jacobs cottage is a step back to a simpler time. We had three beautiful meals in the large dining room, with it's picturesque view and played cards into the night. We drank our coffee on the back porch sitting on its rocking chairs and enjoying the rolling hills. The farm fresh eggs waiting for us in the fridge were delicious and there were plenty of towels and a washer/dryer which was handy after we hiked all day. We arrived late and Dan and Angela accommodated us. The house was easy to find. It was a beautiful place to stay for the weekend and we can't wait to stay again!

    Andrew2017-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • Truly charming, super clean cottage just off the beaten path in a beautiful setting. Close to Cumberland but also a relatively short drive to Bedford Springs. Kitchen is well-equipped, towels are fluffy white and ample in quantity, house decor is quaint--full of antiques and local artist's paintings. Screen porch with rockers make you feel like you're back in a simpler time. Hosts were very responsive and accommodating. We did not miss TV or wifi at all and will definitely book again.

    Jacob's Cottage LLC

Cozy bedroom, tranquil views. This 80 year old farm house is gradually getting renovated, hence there are construction materials here and there on the grounds, but the main floor of the inside has a comfy bed, is clean and fully equipped for guests' basic living needs.
This offering at this time is sort of an "indoor camping" experience. If you would be satisfied to just have a roof over your head for a mountain retreat, clean sheets and towels, a hot shower, a fridge, coffee maker, microwave and and a two-burner stove for cooking, this work-in-progress could be a good fit! The property is surrounded by lush state forest, with wildlife and mountain views creating a peaceful, rural experience. We own 48 acres nestled in Green Ridge State Park, an hour from Hagerstown, MD and 30 minutes from Cumberland, MD. A local farmer keeps a few cows in our fields to keep the grass down. The original house is quite old, and we are slo-o-o-wly adding improvements as we can afford, such as a second full bathroom, a wood burning stove, new windows, and more. For now, if you don't mind the unfinished construction areas, you can enjoy the views and quiet of the mountain and have use of a decent bedroom with a full-size bed and a twin mattress if needed for an additional guest. There is a basic bathroom with tub and shower, a kitchen with two burner stove, stocked with plenty of dishes, pots, utensils, and small living room. The existing bathroom is cosmetically unappealing, in need of an upgrade, but it's functional with toilet, sink and shower. Upstairs rooms are still unfinished, in progress at this time. Expect some construction materials stored here and there in upstairs rooms and on the outside grounds. If this can be overlooked, you'll have a lovely, peaceful weekend with a bedroom, kitchen, small living room and bath. Good for visiting hikers or hunters. On the plus side, the kitchen has ample space for cooking meals, beds are comfy with fresh colorful linens, nice hot showers or tub bath, fresh air, and lovely views for a weekend getaway!
  • Sheli was very helpful and the location is beautiful! I ended up staying in the upper house because of a heating malfunction, but it was lovely. She left lots of great breakfast goodies, and the area was nice and quiet. Everything worked just fine in the house!

This 18th century farm house has been completely restored and provides a very quiet and picturesque getaway. It is located on 8 acres of prime land surrounded by a scenic view of Wills Mountain and the relaxing sounds of the water of a nearby creek. Our front and back porches have breath-taking views of the countryside and gorgeous views of sunrises and sunsets. The porches are perfect enjoying the beautiful scenery and and wildlife. You can grill out, have a bon-fire and enjoy star gazing.
This house has a fully equip kitchen with all the comforts of home. In addition, it has 3 bed rooms each have a queen size bed and electric fire place. The master bedroom also has a pull out twin sleep sofa. The living room has a queen sleep sofa and a woodstove great for cozy winter snuggling. There are 2 full bathrooms; the upstairs bathroom is equipped with an old fashion soaking tub. This cozy farm house is a great place to decompress from the daily grind and create your perfect vacation memories.
  • On a beautiful piece of land it was a great place to rest up after a long day of filming at the nearby Old Bedford Village. Thank you!

  • "Grandpa's Farm" is a beautiful home in a very scenic area. There's a wood stove in the living room, making the place super cozy, and lots of seating and sleeping options if you have a lot of guests (there were 11 of us). The place isn't too far from some nice hiking-- we hiked around Rocky Gap State Park, just a 30-minutes away. Lastly, we were surprised with Johna's generous welcome gift basket when we arrived: a nuts and a bottle of wine! I highly recommend this place, especially if you have a large group.

    Daniel2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful getaway! The farmhouse was so clean and comfortable and had everything we needed; it has plenty of space for a large family if needed. We liked the photos but the spaces are actually much bigger than we realized - a great bonus! We especially appreciated being able to bring our dogs. The setting is so relaxing; the views from the porches are lovely, and we spent a lot of time reading outside near the fire pit. We saw lots of different wildlife, listened to the creek and the birds, and visited the horses next door. This is definitely for those who want to get off the beaten path a bit, but the drive either to Rocky Gap State Park (great for kids) or to Bedford/Shawnee Lake (antiques, dining, family activities) is short enough to find some fun before coming back to relax. We will travel to this area again and will definitely be staying here - thank you!

    Lynn2017-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • Our experience in Grandpa's farm was great! It is a beautiful house in a peaceful area of Pennsylvania next to a farm with horses. Johna was very sweet to leave wine and snacks for us as a gift! The house was very nice and we enjoyed our morning coffee at the front porch! Would recommend to anyone who is looking to escape to nature!

    Eleni2016-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Grandpa's farm was a beautiful get a-way. The house was furnished well and clean up on arrival. Plenty of towels for a large group. One complaint is the power going out, but that was city wide and not the host's fault.

    Hannah2017-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The farmhouse was great! It was the perfect place to enjoy a nice weekend getaway. The fire pit was particularly great, as was the huge yard for our dogs to run around in.

    Tom2016-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • very pleasant host. Enjoyed the back porch view. Well stocked kitchen and linens.

    Diane2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the quiet rural location and the large yard. Though out in the country, we were within reasonable distance of many great side trips and groceries. The house was well-stocked with what we needed for cooking and so forth. The hostess was prompt in communication, helpful in answering questions, and thoughtful in preparing things appropriate for our group. This home is really a gem!

Clean, "bike funky" guest house recently renovated and modern. Walking distance to downtown & close to hospital & Allegany College. Kitchen, laundry, living room, smart TV, Wi-Fi, cyclists welcome! Ask about renting the whole house!
  • This is a very affordably priced accommodation that's great for a night's rest when riding the Great Allegheny Passage and/or the C&O towpath. It's a bit more hostel-like than motel-like, but very clean. There are three rooms, each with multiple beds. Bathrooms and showers are shared between all the rooms - but towels and soap and body wash are supplied, There is a kitchenette / laundry room and large common area with TV and a couple of boardgames upstairs. There is a basement shed room for locking you bike across the street at the Inn at Decatur. All guests are given keys to the shed, so you can you can go load or unload things from your panniers at midnight should you need to. ( although it also means other guests have access to the locked shed room so you should probably keep your valuables on your person as all travelers may not be as trustworthy as the fellows there during my stay. ) Since I was staying midweek I had a whole room to myself which was nice, but not necessary. The bed was amazingly comfortable. Each room has AC, a ceiling fan, multiple outlets for charging phones / bike lights / etc computers and a shared closet for hanging bags and clothes. Each bedroom also has some reading material and a dish of hard candy -- which was a small touch that I greatly appreciated given how hungry I was when I arrived. The kitchenette had complimentary coffee and tea supplies (plus a single beer presumably left by a previous guest).

  • Best place in Cumberland (and I've tried them all) for DC- Pittsburgh bikers. Gail's terrific. As is the location and value.

    Eric2016-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • There are not enough stars to adequately rate our outstanding experience. From dealing with the changing of arrangements to offering to pick us up from downtown Cumberland; from the spectacularly clean and updated hostel to the common area with washing machine and coffee maker... this was a fabulous stay after several long days on the GAP trail. We're already trying to invent reasons to pass through Cumberland just so we can stay here again!

    Noel2016-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • The house was adorable & tidy. Gail was watering the flowers when we arrived. Regarding the neighborhood - it is definitely mixed income. Fine for us-- we live in a similar sort of neighborhood. It was safe, quiet & very close to the restaurants & shops of downtown Cumberland.

    Sue2016-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • It was wonderful. The only less than positive thing to note is the location. It probably feels much different in the day. I was only on the property at night time. I think it's probably just a lighting issue.

    Nathan2017-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • We drove back from Washington DC to Indiana and stayed at Gail's place. It was a gorgeous private house with well decorated living room and kitchen. Gail is very patient in illustrating the location and how to get in. I was even able to eat Chinese food in that unique mountainous town! It's Cumberland, Maryland.

My comfortable 1BR room is bright and cheerful. You will enjoy the comforts of home by having access to the Livingroom, Bathroom, and Kitchen. This is located in a nice neighborhood and close to shopping, colleges, and hospital...within a 5 mile radius. I do not offer internet services. I am approximately 150 miles from Dullas, Reagan, Pittsburgh Airports and 180 miles from BWI Airport. To Hagerstown, Maryland around 55 miles, Altoona, Pennsylvania around 55 miles and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 150 miles. A main attraction is Deep Creek Lake around 55 miles and in September of 2014 will be having the White Water Rafting competition for the Rio Olympics. There will be approximately 30 Countries visiting the Deep Creek Lake area.
This space is unique because the bed is a queen size bed and it is on the left of the hallway . This space has a private entrance into the bathroom. The room has a huge closet space.
What I love most about the neighborhood is that everything is close within a 5 mile radius. The neighborhood is quiet and not overly friendly, but if you needed something they would help you.

Safe, quiet neighborhood. 2 minute walk to downtown and C&O Canal and GAP Trail. You will be able to walk everywhere in downtown Cumberland. Queen bed. Check out my reviews and ratings! And see description for much more info.
Home is over 100 years old and is a bit unique. Your room will be clean and will have clean sheets, towels, etc. A full bathroom is directly across the hall from your room. You can expect it to be very clean and I have toothpaste, shaving cream, if you forget anything. There is no central air, but there is an air conditioner in the room during summer months. Full access to kitchen, living room, bar area, and washer/dryer. I also have a secure garage if you need to store your bike(s) overnight. Living room has a TV with Amazon Prime and Netflix (no cable). You are also welcome to play my N64 or Gamecube. Also have WiFi that you can use-for free of course. I work during the week but I'm most always available to get you checked and meet you. I'm a Cumberland native and can give you recommendations on restaurants, art galleries, and other attractions in the area. My house is on quiet street on the West Side, less than a block from historic Washington St and the Cumberland Theater. It is also very close to downtown. It's one of the few houses that is extremely close to downtown yet feels peaceful and private. I also have a small yard and patio. From my house it is a: 1 minute walk to historic Washington St 1 minute walk to the Cumberland Theater 2 minute walk to the Western Maryland Railway Station and C&O Canal 2 minute walk to Downtown Cumberland 2 minute walk to Great Allegheny Passage (less than 100 yards) 3 minute drive on/off of I-68. 10 minute walk to Amtrak station. You can walk everywhere Downtown and to most of the historic West Side of Cumberland from my house- no car needed. I like meeting new people and have traveled abroad using similar services to Airbnb. I've been hosting since Fall 2014. I want you to have an enjoyable stay in my house and in our city. Whether you are just passing through town, a student, cyclist, or just visiting Cumberland this is a great home-base to explore the area. Pricing is $50 during the week and $60 for most weekends. There are no cleaning fees or charges for an extra traveler. If you have a group of more than two, are interested in longer-term visits, or want to stay a night that is already booked- I can sometimes accommodate.
  • Jake is an easy going young man who is interesting to talk to. He has made every effort to make my stay comfortable. The location of the house is perfect, only a few minutes from downtown Cumberland. It certainly has some history. Extremely safe and quiet neighborhood. Dana2017-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • The room at Jake's house was very comfy and clean. It looked exactly like the pictures and was just what we needed. Although we just hung out in the bedroom, Jake invited us to hang out in other parts of the house if we wanted, which was a nice gesture. He also let us put things in his fridge as well. If I ever go back to Cumberland, I would stay with him again!

This is a pet friendly property. We charge a fee of $33 per dog with a limit of two dogs per property. This fee will be added to your reservation after booking. As with all of our pet friendly properties, we ask that you respect the area by cleaning up any pet residue outside as well as sweeping up any dog hair left inside the home.
  • Great location. Covered porch with an open fireplace was great for enjoying an evening fire without any bugs pestering us. The river was a just a short walk on the property, from the cabin. Only thing to note is a lack of wi-fi at the cabin.

  • We loved staying at the Lazy K, the pictures don't do it justice. Loads of space, very clean and sleeps 8 people with 3 bedrooms and then a mezzanine space with 2 bunk beds. Large very well equipped kitchen, great AC, lovely veranda and set within the woods and extremely private. We can't praise the Lazy K enough and the short walk down to the river is amazing. We fly fished the river, kids had fun swimming in it and dog loved jumping in and out to cool off ( it was boiling hot ). Also many people drifting by on the river on inflatables, so if you have any, bring them, it looked real fun. Caution: make sure you follow directions given, not Sat Nav on Waze, we got lost and wasted 50mins on wrong side of the mountain. Lovely place, we had such a great time with all our family and will be back for sure.

The West Side of Cumberland boasts many historical highlights. Our block is quaint. It's not uncommon to find neighbors gathering on each others porches and welcoming opportunities to meet new friends.
  • This is a wonderful house in a nice neighborhood. It is a great location for visiting Cumberland, Rocky Gap, La Vale and/or Frostburg. The house is a clean, happy place to stay. Our family of four had plenty of space and it sure beat being in a hotel room. We were able to walk to downtown Cumberland, the GAP trail and the C&O Canal towpath. The neighbors are nice and one morning we enjoyed coffee on the front porch while our kids played with the neighbors' kids on the sidewalk. Highly recommend.

  • We loved the coziness of this old house in an old city. The neighborhood is peaceful and conveniently located. The listing matched perfectly with its description, and all amenities were available as described. This breathtaking 1890 Victorian Mansion, originally built for US Senator Wellington, is located on Washington Street, the stunningly beautiful historic mansion street of Cumberland. Located only a short walk from the pedestrian mall of downtown, the C&O tow path and GAP trails, and the Historic railroad. Close to everything, yet very serene. This cozy, retro apartment is the perfect place to stay when exploring the city, stopping on the trails, or enjoying the outdoor offerings of the area.
This apartment is a taste of America's gilded era (1890s when the home itself was built) and America's golden age (1950s when the apartment within the home was constructed). This home was commissioned and originally owned by a U.S. senator and president of many companies. The house really shows the kind of care and detail that you would expect from the best of the best in terms of craftsmanship, architecture and design in the late 1800's. The Apartment is a step back in time, with many original details from not only the 1890s such as original stained glass transom, but also many original details from the 1950s such as a classic 1950s kitchen complete with time appropriate vintage dining furniture and decor items. The Apartment is cozy, unique and funky. The main bedroom is spacious and features a Full bed along with a writing desk. The second bedroom is very small, with lovely windows overlooking the grounds and a Futon. We have a "Pack And Play" and a small selection children's toys available to families who may want to utilize them. The apartment comes with a few board games (including "All About Cumberland" from the 1970s), and some books on local history. The apartment does show some wear and tear from it's age and it's original condition.
The street this house is located on (Washington Street) is potentially one of the most beautiful and architecturally inspiring and diverse in the entire world. This is the mansion street build in the late 1800's and early 1900's. At this time, Cumberland was a very important city in the U.S.A. Walking from this house to the beautiful historic downtown only takes a couple minutes, but you will wish it was longer, because it is such a stunning walk. This house is located in the heart of Cumberland, yet is still quiet and serene. Only a short walk from the pedestrian mall of downtown, the C&O tow path and GAP trails, the Western Maryland Historic railroad, The C&O Canal and Canal Place. 10 minute drive from Rocky Gap Lake State Park. Close to I-68 for convenient access to Deep Creek Lake, Wisp, Swallow Falls State Park, Spruce Artisan Forest, and many more great destinations.
  • My husband and I stayed 3 nights in this lovely house. It was like staying in a doll house. Check in / Check out was the easiest of our Airbnb stays so far and Sean's communication is exceptional. I cannot recommend Sean and his property enough.

  • This classic Victorian is great spot for a visit to Cumberland. It is a climb up, but clean and just right for two adults and two children. My grandchildren loved the room with slanted ceilings! Three adults would be quite comfortable and it is close to the Western MD train station for rides on the old steamer, as well as the bike trail and downtown.

    Sharon2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute apartment. The wallpaper and stained glass were very charming. Something pleasantly different

    Janie2017-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Sean's place is very cute! Great space for a small family. My husband and I stayed there with our 3 year old daughter and had plenty of room. Washington St is a perfect location - walkable to historic downtown, the historic train station, and beautiful residential neighborhoods. Also close to bike trails! We enjoyed our stay.

  • Great neighborhood. Sean is very attentive.

    Adam2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was perfect for our weekend visit. Very comfortable, we enjoyed the boardgames and the bath tub. Sean was very considerate and easy to communicate with, check-in was a breeze.

    Jodi2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Sean is very quick to respond to messages, and the self check-in process was very easy. The neighborhood is close to downtown with a lot of interesting old houses. The apartment has everything you need for a stay, including a full kitchen, although it looked a bit better in the pictures. Overall it was fine.

    Mark2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful building and very quiet location. It has the charm I would expect from the period and the location is perfect since it's only 10 minutes away from the Train Station and Downtown Cumberland. It is surrounded by historic sites and beautiful scenic areas. The apartment is clean and cozy and the two rooms are spacious.

Guests will use the right side of the home and all 3 levels including 3 bedrooms all with queen size beds. The home is approximately a half mile from downtown Cumberland.
  • This house is incredible. Pictures just do not do it justice. You really need to experience it. I would LOVE to know all about the history of this home. We came for a family trip to explore the area and ride the train. This location was great. It was so close to all the things we wanted to do. The home itself was so large and we just loved it. We had a small dog and 4 children. I was nervous about all the stairs for the kids but it worked out fine. And truly, we weren't even at the home much because we were our doing tourist stuff. You do need to be able to walk several flights of stairs as well as to climb into the beds; they are very high up! The tallest beds I think I've ever stayed in. The hosts met all our concerns and questions and were very available. This was way better and more affordable than a hotel.

Enjoy historic Cumberland, Maryland in this classic restored home. This home is located close to downtown, near the C&O Canal, Baltimore Street promenade, and several shops and restaurants. The town is also a great base to explore Western Maryland and West Virginia panhandle attractions such as Rocky Gap, Frostburg State University, Deep Creek Lake/WISP ski resort, and Seneca Rocks. Plenty of space to lock up bikes, and a welcoming neighborhood and community abound here in Westside.
The kitchen is fully equipped and there is space to cook, and a refrigerator to store food; as well, there is a coffee/tea station in the pantry. Laundry facilities are also available onsite, as are areas to lock up bikes.
My house is in West side, the "right side of the tracks" It's somewhere between a bedroom community and urban, as it is close to downtown but mostly homes.
  • David is really awesome! We were especially impressed with his talent for fixing up a historic home and decorating it too! He just put the charm right back into it with such a fantastic little touch of modernity while still being a nice home away from home. The beds were highly comfortable and my sleep was wonderful on them. The house manager Jason was also a real sweetheart!

  • The house is very nice and the owner was super helpful. I only stayed for one night but definitely could repeat again.

  • David's place was beautiful and immaculate. The location is perfect for anyone who is wanting to stay in Cumberland and enjoy the downtown area without staying directly in it. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was super clean.

  • We came to the area for my brothers wedding and were struggling to find a hotel with suites for our family of four. We decided randomly to search airbnb and are so glad we did. The home was very clean, comfortable, quiet, and Ivone was the perfect host. She was very responsive and even let us extend our trip on either end weeks after the original booking. If we ever return to the area we will definitely try to stay here again. I do agree with a previous poster that the mattresses could be updated but we were still able to sleep fine.

    Whitney2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We were celebrating a belated birthday weekend with my Mom, myself and my daughter. The house was beautiful. While we planned all meals out, the kitchen was stocked with everything you could need. The decor was beautiful. All three bedrooms were very spacious. Ivone was very responsive to text messages. We, thanks to Ivone's house, had a very special weekend.

    Karen2016-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • Nicely remodeled interior although not new furniture. Location is OK but long walk from anything really. The home was not well cleaned - specifically kitchen, dishes, bath, showers. Owner responsive and helpful but needs a different cleaning service!

    Fritz2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a centrally located vintage home that has much potential, but there are some items that need immediate attention. The home is located on a tree-lined street in Cumberland, with easy access to the local highways. The instructions and communications with the owner were flawless. There are numerous upgrades to the house, and the decor is charming. There is definitely an ant problem the owner seems to be aware of, as one of the first things we noticed was an overpowering toxic odor and a bottle of Ortho insect spray on the living room coffee table. Unfortunately, only 1 window on the ground floor in the kitchen could be opened for airflow. All the others were stuck or painted shut. There are 3 bedrooms, each with a Full size bed, comfortable for 1 person each. The plaster on one of the walls in a bedroom is blistered and flaking, signaling there may be, or may have been, a roof leak. While having Netflix available is nice, there is no way to access local TV stations to check local weather or news.

    Patricia2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great experience. Easy communication and great home. I would definitely recommend this house

    Dustin2016-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • The house was very homey and tastefully decorated. We enjoyed our stay very much! Ivone was very easy to work with and very accommodating.

    Alice2016-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • Listen, stay where you want. I will not stay at this place again. Ants in the kitchen, beds are not comfortable, house is on a busy road, bathroom upstairs had a constant unpleasant odor. Looks are decieving.

Whether you want a romantic getaway, a family break or a quiet place to write, Long Time Gone Cottage is the perfect spot. 15 scenic acres. Mountains. River. Eagles. Fire in fireplace. What else do you need? Tranquil, peaceful, and private. Well-behaved dogs and children of all ages welcome!
Fully renovated cabin with vintage features. It looks old but everything has been salvaged from somewhere else. Clawfoot tub. Huge screened-in porch. Full kitchen. Two bedrooms in main house with queen beds. Futon in living room. Bunkhouse (heated by space heaters in winter) has a double bed, double futon and bunk with queen mattress. Three primary beds have pillows and duvets. Bedding needed for rest. You bring sheets and towels for all. Amazing views. A separate bunkhouse where you can stash the kids. Outdoor shower in summer. Phone service and Wifi. Please note there is no TV and no a/c. We are in the mountains where the nights are typically chilly well into June. During the day, breezes come straight off the river and fans will keep you cool on even the hottest days of summer. We like 5-star hotels too, but this isn't one! :-) The cabin is self-catering. We are far away from any major city and unfortunately there is no local trash pick-up. If cleaning up after yourself isn't your cup of tea, then this isn't the spot for you. We operate on the honor system (although our caretaker drops in after each guest to make sure things are okay) so please leave it as you would hope to find it!
Gated community but doesn't feel like it. Our property is right on the river first surveyed by George Washington. In summer, we have our own beach. Helpful neighbors who aren't around much. Historic sites close by including Paw Paw Tunnel. 40 minutes from ski resorts and hot springs. This is wild and wonderful West Virginia at its finest. The perfect spot to get away from it all. Spend your day floating lazily down the river and your night counting the stars.
  • My partner and our two dogs stayed at Leslie's wonderful cottage for two nights and wish we had booked a longer stay! It was everything we hoped for- nature, solitude and peace and quiet! The cottage is very comfortable with everything you need to cook meals including a gas grill. The property is absolutely gorgeous and our dogs had a great time exploring the huge yard and swimming in the river. Our favorite part was the huge screen porch- we spent most of our time here and couldn't be happier! We also loved the outdoor shower! We can't wait to plan our next city escape at the Floating E!

    Jenn2016-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage was the perfect getaway weekend! It was secluded, very peaceful and the whole house was warm and inviting. We are definitely looking forward to returning again to enjoy all that it has to offer!!

    Nathaniel2015-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at the Floating E this weekend! Amazing December weather allowed us to take the kids on a walk through the beautiful woods. Great halfway meeting point between DC and Pittsburgh for our families

    Jen2015-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous weekend at this secluded cottage in the woods. It was the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern conveniences. Leslie was a fantastic host, immediately welcoming us to her home with a detailed email of what to expect. She was extremely helpful in suggesting points of interests in the area. And she quickly replied to all questions, no matter how silly. We really enjoyed our weekend hiking, floating, exploring, antiquing, and relaxing. We look forward to visiting again.

    Linda2015-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage in secluded West Virginia. The house is charming, with a massive yard and a wonderfully functional kitchen stocked with all of the basics. Beds were comfortable, bunkhouse was lovely, really everything was great. Note that this is, indeed, very secluded. It will take you ~40 minutes to drive to any supermarket, bar, or hike. Perfect for my group of friends, but everybody should know what they're signing up for.

    Richard2015-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place. Quiet and peaceful. My kids loved the bunkhouse and playing in the river. I also really like the screened porch and listening to Sirius radio. Great property. I would definitely rent again!

    Eric2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • The view looked exactly like the photo except it was covered in snow! Just beautiful. We spent most of our time on the carpet in front of the fireplace, playing cards, drinking cocoa and being together. This cabin is really off the grid, and only 2.5 hours out of DC. Leslie contacted us before we left to make sure we had everything we needed (I would have forgotten the sheets and blankets) and had alternative driving routes if the roads were a problem after 6" of snow. Overall a perfect and magical weekend.

    Pascale2015-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The Potomac cottage is an awesome bargain in an awesome location, and there are a few things we learned from our stay that future renters may want to know: 1) The outdoor shower is really cool. It may sound simple, but on a long day, it's amazing how freeing it is to have a warm shower while looking up at clouds. 2) If you're visiting in the summer, know that the place gets HOT and HUMID. There is no AC (this is clearly listed in the description). There are fans, but even with these, the house doesn't really cool off until after dark, and the bunkhouse gets much hotter than the main house during the day. We had an extra window fan by chance, and it came in handy. You may want to bring one or two. Or, see #1 above, and take frequent outdoor showers. 3) Pack well. You'll have to pack your own bed sheets and pillow cases, and there's no laundry on site. You also have to pack out all of your garbage. There's no garbage pick up or dumpster. Unless you dump illegally in town (don't) or offer to pay the gas station to take it (odd social situation), you're driving home with trash. We brought big construction contractor bags to avoid smells. (Again, all this is clearly listed by Leslie, but don't forget!) 4) The river is beautiful -- but be aware of its risks! We spent a relaxing day down by the river's edge, reading, wading around, floating. It's a very pretty view. It was July and the river was waist-deep and tepid, which we thought was great. What wasn't great was e.coli. That night, the entire family got violently ill and we left our vacation two days early to go home, where doctor's visits confirmed e.coli sickness. Further research showed that e.coli loves low flow, warm river water. If you visit in the summer, and if the river is low, please check local e coli levels before swimming! (This is not uncommon -- we've seen small Arizona mountain streams and giant Midwestern lake beaches closed periodically for high levels. Just do your homework.) Overall, it's a nice place with quaint decorations and a very private feel. While we may have wished for more amenities (AC, laundry, trash service) and less sickness (which of course is no fault of the place itself), you may find the private remoteness at a good price worth the extra packing!

Our rustic modern mountain getaway is available for our guests. We have 24 beautiful acres just south of the Green Ridge State Forest which contains an expanse of 47,000 acres for public use. For nature lovers: hiking, cycling, or just walking the C&O Canal Towpath (near mile-marker 157) is only a few minutes away. Visiting the historic Paw Paw tunnel or kayaking on the Potomac River are other nearby activities only minutes away from our home.
Our home is a cabin with wood ceilings and floors, re-purposed wood work, a fireplace, wood stove, full modern kitchen, and a bathroom. We have three decks surrounded by 24 private wooded acres right off of Gorman Road. We have a gas grill available for guest use. There is one neighbor to the right of the house. Up the mountain there are no close neighbors.
We have only one neighbor family that you may see; right next door. They live there full time, and are very nice, so please be respectful and courteous.
  • Heather's cabin is a cozy, comfortable and quiet retreat ideal for spending some quality family time in front of the lovely fireplace. The 6 of us spent two days between cmas and new year's enjoying the fire, the large dvd collection, the absence of internet and thus each other's company. Corresponding with Heather was a pleasure and her cabin satisfied in every respect.

  • Visiting Heather's home is like visiting at your relatives house while they are away. Yes, some of their stuff is in the drawers and yes, there is some of their food in the fridge and yeah, maybe the place could use a little dusting. But if those types of small things don't bother you then you can have a wonderful and relaxing time here. You have a quiet neighbor on one side and the rest of the house is surrounded by woods. Nice patios to relax on and watch the bird feeders. Nice hammock too. Fireplace room with plenty of wood and comfortable rockers was awesome, enjoyed that tremendously. House is cozy, quiet and relaxing. Heather has left some nice touches to enjoy your stay. Book with brochures was a nice touch. Books about birds and trees was nice too. The couches, as everyone raves, are no lie. Electric reclining and super comfy with a nice selection of DVDS to watch. There is also dish tv if you want to watch that. Here are some tips to make your stay nicer....Bringing your own sheets, towels, pillow wouldn't be a bad idea. The house is equipped with the basics for preparing meals...cookie sheets, pizza pans, plates, etc. If there is that one cooking item you cant live without like that special griddle or knife, bring that. Also basic glasses are provided, so if you like having wine or brandy or that craft IPA in your favorite glass/tumbler...bring that! Water does have odor, Heather provides a Brita filter but you may want to bring drinking water. A Keurig coffee machine is available for your morning Joe so either bring K cups or own own coffee maker if that doesn't work for you. The C & O canal is minutes away. PawPaw tunnel was pretty cool. Bring a flashlight! It gets dark in the middle! If you do forget items, there is a Dollar General in close by PawPaw but other shopping is a bit of a trip so try to come prepared. We really had a fantastic stay. We would walk on the C & O during the day....back to the house for a nice fire and a meal and then relaxing with a movie at night. It was very nice and I would consider coming back in the fall!

    Patricia2016-04-02T00:00:00Z

Our little cottage is secluded and amazingly quiet. Overlooking our pond and surrounded by woods, it is beautiful year round. Kayak, swim, or light up the fire pit. A separate bedroom and a kitchen/common room fully equipped. Huge deck, miles of trails, tree house, and many unique features!
You get our 450 sq ft. cottage, and huge 10' deck, all to your self. There is a separate bedroom, and bathroom, along with the main room. With a full kitchen (stove, oven, grill, microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher) it is easy to bring your own food and prepare it here. We have a full compliment of dishes, silverware, and utensils, along with lots of condiments. What ever you would find in your own kitchen. The bedroom has a queen sized bed, the loft has two singles, and the bench in the main room becomes a bed when the bolster is removed. In addition we have a blow up queen, and two blow up singles. We can actually sleep 9 but that would be very crowded. 4 is comfortable, 6 is tight. We now have Wifi, including Netflix. Please be aware that this is a cabin in the woods. If you love nature, this is your place.
Our neighborhood is unique because it doesn't exist. It is just you, the pond and the woods. We have neighbors, but you can't see or hear them. This is a get away place.

  • Murray and his son Mason were very welcoming and very thorough about making sure we knew where to find everything. They were very accessible if we needed them. We wanted a secluded, quiet place to relax with family and this place was just the ticket. We had fun kayaking, watching the Koi and relaxing by the fire pit each night. We plan on returning next year for a few day visit.

  • Our stay at Murrays place was AMAZING. We had such a good time kayaking and hiking the trails. I picked out this place so when we arrived at the cabin my boyfriend thought from the outside we would be roughing it a little. Once we stepped inside he realized how WRONG he was. Everything was clean and modern. The eggs provided were soooo good as everyone before me has stated. This getaway was all we wanted plus more. Murray even offered to let us stay past check in because there was no one checking in that day. We would have totally took him up on the offer if we didn’t have a 5 hour drive back home . We most definitely will be back.

    Matthew2017-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time! The homemade appetizer that was provided upon arrival was delicious. The house is well stocked and the fire pit was loaded with wood ready to go. We had a great time kayaking in the pond and hiking through the woods. Murray and his wife were great hosts and we enjoyed talking with them. We plan to going back!

  • We absolutely loved this place and everything about it. If you are looking for the perfect place to relax and unwind, look no further, this is it. Murray was so nice and accommodating and Mason was very patient with us as we got lost getting there.

  • Daniel was extremely accommodating as I arrived later than expected. I wasn't able to join him for breakfast since I left early the next morning, but he was generous with the use of his kitchen - even offering freshly baked bread. Don't expect 5 star amenities, but Daniel doesn't pretend to be anything other than a genuine human being offering plenty of room to sleep, shower, eat, and tell stories. A perfect stop for bicyclists or anyone else passing through Paw Paw.

    Craig2016-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Dan was such a lovely host! He rode about 20 miles of the C&O with me on my way into Paw Paw, and it was a fun ride learning about the history of the area and about all sorts of other trails around the world. The accommodations were simple and nice, and Dan made a delicious hearty breakfast in the morning. This was the best Airbnb experience I've ever had.

    Stacy2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful host Daniel is. He is extremely thoughtful and really enjoys hosting. Thank you for going the extra mile with me Dan and letting me head back there after my training run!!

    Misha2017-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • I would highly suggest Dan's place. I would really suggest his place for someone needing a 1 night stay for a stop over. Breakfast was awesome!!

    Jennifer2017-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Daniel is a wonderful host--really friendly and super helpful. There were two other guests--cyclists--staying there at the same time, and we all had a marvelous and interesting conversation over breakfast, complete with Daniel reading us a passage from Albert Einstein and a poem by Carl Sandburg. It was hard to leave!

    lise2017-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Daniel was nice enough to meet me on the trail and ride back to his house. He provided a delicious dinner and breakfast and great conversation.

  • I am a touring cyclist riding my bike from NYC to NOLA and I stayed at Dans for 2 days after doing a small portion of the C&O canal path. Dan is a great guy with a pleasant demeanor, passionate about cycling, history, among other things. The fact that this place is cycling friendly makes it sooo good. It was just what I needed for a rest day. I was able to tune up my bike do laundry and cook for myself. He makes a great breakfast. The place is simple and clean. His dog is cute and yeah, definitely recommend.

I love this old house. Furnished in a casual but polished style, guests can spend the evenings on the front porch glider midst the flowers, or inside sampling the bakery case after dinner. We serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and good hospitality.
  • Great, friendly hosts. Great location near the C&O (Don't be put off because it is W. Va. The bridge is right across the tow path.) Good food. Try the dinner.

  • Came in a little earlier than expected, Carol showed me my room and got me squared away. Nice place near some great amenities within walking distance (ice cream, gas station, dollar store that seems to have everything). She made a great breakfast. Very nice and perfect for my quick night.

    Kyle2016-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks Carol for making it work!

    Beth2017-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Carol's Bed and Breakfast is located in a lovely old house that has been charmingly renovated, and with air conditioning, which we really appreciated after a hot day biking on the C&O canal. We were able to wash the bikes off before dinner and put them inside overnight. Carol provided a wonderful dinner and a great breakfast - just what we needed for the next day's cycling along the canal. We really enjoyed sitting out on the porch before and after dinner and would recommend the Wrenwood Inn to other cyclists biking the C&O canal, or to anyone who would like to spend a quiet evening in a relaxing environment, with great food.

We enjoyed all the extras that they provided (volleyball, horseshoes, swingset, sandbox, dart board, badminton, etc.) The owners are super nice people and easy to get along with. We hope to stay here again in the future and would recommend this place to everyone looking for a nice getaway.

Just minutes away from Berkeley Springs, West Virginia and close to Washington DC, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh. A perfect get-a-way for a romantic week-end, for nature lovers, or for a solo retreat. The back deck faces west so you can enjoy fantastic sunsets as well as the wildlife, mountains, valley, and Potomac River.
We are happy to work with you if you wish to celebrate your special occasion with chocolates, flowers, cheese, or special wine.
  • A Walk In The Clouds was a beautiful cozy place for my girlfriend and I. Keith provided everything we needed and gave us lots of great recommendations. Berkeley Springs is a cute little town and everyone there was very nice. Would love to come back and spend more time on the porch overlooking the valley at sunset and staring up at the stars at night.

  • A fabulous retreat from urban living. The scenery was absolutely gourgeous! Very clean, well-kept property. Extremely smooth transaction.

    Misti2017-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I were looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway to celebrate our anniversary and Keith's cabin was exactly that. The cabin itself is spotless with amazing views. Keith is super responsive to messages and sends you information of things to do in the surrounding area. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay! We would definitely stay here again!

    Sara2017-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay! The cabin is clean and well-appointed - perfect for a couple looking to get away for the weekend. The view is spectacular, and there is great hiking nearby. Thanks!

  • The stay at "A Walk in the Clouds" was excellent. The cabin is very beautiful and mountain view is gorgeous. Planning to return back when the weather is warmer.

  • This quaint, cozy cabin was hidden in the woods and offered a spectacular view overlooking the mountains and river. Keith, the owner, was very prompt with communication and offered great recommendations about what the area had to offer. The charming cabin, the atmosphere, and view was the perfect setting for a romantic night away from city life.

    Anne2017-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place! We can't say enough good things about it. The pictures online are beautiful, but they don't do its justice - you have to come and see it for yourself. The view is absolutely breathtaking. When we arrived, we just parked our car and didn't go inside for some time. We couldn't get enough of the magnificent view in front of us. The inside didn't disappoint us as well. The cabin is spotless, it's cozy, it's well equipped and everything is thought through to the very last detail. We tremendously enjoyed our stay and want to come back in the future. The best getaway from the hectic lifestyle we live in.

This cabin is a chalet style cabin situated in the eastern panhandle highlands of West Virginia. At almost 1900 ft elevation, it offers stunning views anytime of day and of course for sunrise and sunset. It is secluded, about 25 minutes away from downtown Berkley Springs. Hiking, fishing, paddling, shopping, dining, spas, antiquing and state parks all nearby.
My closest neighbor is about 1/4 miles away. All you hear are the sounds of nature and the occasional train echoing from the Potomac river valley. You'll have access to the whole cabin. I will interact with you to give you the keys and directions. no neighborhood. no public transit.
    no neighborhood.
  • This was my second time at the cabin on the hill and it was equally lovely. We had a great time watching the snow fall by a cozy fire. Kara was a pleasure to interact with, responsive, informative, etc.

    Emily2016-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great cabin and Kara is a great host. This was a return visit, so it's clear I like it! Kara has added a screened porch to the back of the house, which is fantastic, because it gives you mountain views on both sides (and you can see the sunset from that side). When you're in the cabin, you have complete privacy and are totally unaware of neighbors. It's a great setup. Kara is super-accommodating and communicative. Would definitely go back a third time!

    Jack 2017-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second time staying at Kara's cabin and it was just as good the second time around! The cabin was clean and tidy and I was pleasantly surprised by the new back deck that had been built since the last time I visited. Kara was very responsive, kind, and informative over text with any issues that I had. The leaves were in peak fall and gorgeous! I immensely enjoyed my long weekend getaway (as did my friend and dog!). I can't wait to return!

  • Kara's place was absolutely perfect! She was incredibly fast with response time from booking to check-out. Definitely follow her directions to get to the chalet and I highly suggest going in the daylight! My friend and I arrived later than expected and opening the gate in the cold turned out to be a fun(ny) adventure all on its own :) Thank you again, Kara!

My place is close to Romney, great views,. You’ll love my place because of fresh air, beautiful, across from a farm with many horses, the coziness.
It is a utilitarian cabin. Very cute but it is not a hotel room. There is queen futon and queen bed with futon mattress. Bring your own sheets and blanket and towels. No hot water.
The neighbors in front have lots of horses which you can see from the cabin. They are there year around. The neighbor at the end of road and beginning are also there year around. For emergency you may ask for help. We are not responsible for any accidents, damages or loss during your stay. The closest most equipped hospital is in Winchester, Virginia. There is a hospital in Romney for quick help that is 45 minutes away.
  • A charming rustic cabin in a peaceful remote location. The animals across the street were amazing! Nazanin made checkin so easy. It was a relaxing place to come back to after a long day of hiking :)

  • A place to unplug and watch the tall grass blow in the wind. Large fields to run around in, woods in the back backyard, and an easy trail to walk and see horses and cows.

  • For when you want to go somewhere to untangle yourself from a highly connected world. Spent 5 nights in this cabin here in April. Phone calls dropped, there was no internet, no email, and no stress! Exactly what I wanted. I was able to text using AT&T just fine, so not completely cut off. Good view of the mountains and night sky (I saw two shooting stars).

    Morgan2017-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking to get away for a weekend to the center of the middle of nowhere, this is a spartan, but plenty comfy accommodation -- roughing it, but not really. The area is lovely, green with tints of fall coming on, a horse farm across the road. The cabin is two smallish rooms -- living room and kitchen combine for one, bedroom and bathroom the other (i.e. probably not made for two people unless you're intimately acquainted). The host is quite responsive and invested in your enjoying her little treasure.

  • We booked the cabin at short notice during a road trip and stayed two nights. It was easy to find due to the comprehensive directions supplied and we were very pleased with the quaint and homely feel the cabin has. Everything we needed was there and we enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing stay, including kayaking up and down the river and a romantic dip in the hot-tub. Didn't see any bears but we had a deer outside the cabin and a hummingbird. I built a fire in the outdoor fire-pit but didn't get time to light it...next time perhaps ! Highly recommended if you're looking for a secluded, but not remote, romantic, homely mountain cabin with a relaxed vibe.

  • Marie (the owner) was helpful and very hands-off. We had 1 question while we were there and she responded immediately, but other than that, we had no contact with her. And because the house and the development are very secluded, we did not have any contact with other residents of the River Ridge Community. Marie's directions to the lock box (where we obtained the keys to the house and the gate card) were very helpful. We found both without any trouble. The area surrounding the house is really beautiful. Lots of trees, birds and quiet woods. The house is also conveniently located about 1/2 hour from the town of Berkeley Springs. The house was large (though we were only a party of 2) so it would be perfect for several families. The screened-in porch was really nice all day and into the evenings as well. We also found just about everything we needed in the kitchen (though no large mixing bowls? and we brought a bean grinder and french press.) The Nut House was not quite as we expected however. The house itself wasn't as clean as we would have expected. Plenty of dust on surfaces and dead bugs scattered about. Perhaps this was naiveté on our parts, but neither of us anticipated the large amount of bugs we encountered inside the house. Outside, sure. We knew we were going into the woods and brought plenty of bug spray. But inside, we were surprised by the amount of bugs around at all times. Not sure how they got in, but that definitely affected our level of relaxation. If you're planning on staying here in the summer, be prepared for that aspect. We were also greeted by a small snake on the enclosed porch. Not a big deal - we gently transferred him to the outside. And while we didn't bring our dogs, it was nice to know that was an option. They would have enjoyed themselves! Two of the features we were most looking forward to were a bit disappointing: the hottub and the firepit. In the listing, there is a picture of a smaller firepit with 4 adirondack chairs - while we saw the chairs, they were pretty dirty and that smaller firepit was nowhere to be found. There IS a larger pit with tree stumps, but since it was just the two of us, we were hoping to use the smaller setup. The hottub wasn't very clean and the water was constantly murky despite our following the directions with dropping in some pristine power every 24 hours. There was also no DVD player on the main floor as described in the listing. The house was also a bit 'junkier' than we expected. The screened-in porch, while lovely, had a huge rolling bucket and mop and an old Christmas tree stored in the corner. As well, piled-up cardboard boxes and other junk lying around. • This place is amazing. It comfortably accommodated eight of us and was perfect for what we wanted: making dinners, lounging in the hot tub, hiking, sitting around a bonfire, etc. I strongly recommend it.

  • Lots of fun! Great, cozy house that can fit a number of people comfortably. Very secluded and quiet, just what I needed. The hot tub is a blessing and the house has a number of heaters to keep it warm throughout the winter. Town is a bit far but not too far to be able to enjoy any basic amenity you might want. Marie is a thorough communicator and helped me feel confident about our support throughout the long weekend.

  • Host was informative, timely and friendly - completely satisfied with experience. Property was as described which gave us a fantastic family experience in the way in which were expecting it. The property is isolated in a beautiful natural environment. It is well resourced for a family or group gathering with access to adventure or stay at home activities. We highly recommend it to anyone seeking this type of holiday.
