Manapouri is a quiet small town at the entrance of Fiordland National Park, located on the eastern shore of New Zealand's most beautiful lake: Lake Manapouri. With its laid back character and a population of about 400 people, it's a great alternative to the busy tourist spots in the surrounding areas, like Te Anau, which is only a 15 minute drive north. Pearl Harbour, in Manapouri, is the departure point for all Doubtful Sound trips and several Great Walks in Fiordland. Local town has a pub, cafe, general store and petrol station. Closest supermarket/chemist etc is Te Anau 15mins drive.
  • Freestone is a slice of scenic paradise! It's located on a hill with footpaths to the main house/office. It was clean & comfortable. Jaclyn & Warren generously share local knowledge which made our stay more enjoyable.

  • Very nice experience to stay in this hut , nice view and wild natural style ! Jaclyn & Warren are nice couple ! They have many huts nearby , but still very quite ! Easy cooking . Very good place to stay and feel down to earth !

  • Yes just great. Very welcomed easy going . The place is just stunning views with a little cabin all to yourself. At a place like this. No internet= no worries. It is a crime to be on a computer when you have a view like that. For those who must use it, it is available from the office area, but really why? My only regret is not staying a whole week. What a lovely, great value get-away to escape from your stressful life, recharge the batteries, (you, not your mobile.) Not only that, but you are at the doorstep of an amazing wilderness of Doubtful Sound, an amazing and enchanting place that can be booked with your host. Apart from the wonderful scenery, we saw dolphins, sea lions, penguins, tuna and one very elusive Kiwi. Hundreds (not an exaggeration ) of waterfalls falling from unusual shaped mountains rising directly from the sea. If your cruise is half as good as ours was, you will spend the entire day engrossed in unparalleled beauty and wonderment.

    Philip2016-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in our cabin for two nights which was a great experience! We would stay here again.

    Nadine 2016-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had an exceptional two nights in the Pigeon Hut. Warren and Jaclyn were very friendly and helpful on arrival and even let us use their outdoor hot bath in the evening which was awesome!! They also helped us book our Doubtful Sound cruise. All this and the cabin was great, private and very warm with the fire going, and had its own little kitchen. We'd highly recommend, thanks guys :)

    Paul2016-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great scenic place to stay! Do note that your cabin may have little and no wifi - you need to walk to the couple's home to get the wifi. There is no power socket in the cabin as well. May be a little inconvenient for people like myself who has a lot of batteries to be recharged. Otherwise, fantastic place to stay in. Highly recommended! :)

    Kenneth2016-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice place

    Caitlin 2016-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful couple of days in our cabin - it was bigger than we expected and the view was just breathtaking. We also really enjoyed having our own little kitchen, definitely a big bonus.

A basic clean cabin set with-in a friendly camp ground with a retro feel and great atmosphere. There is a queen bed including linen and towels. WIFI in the guest lounge is available 24/7. Full use of all the camp facilities - well equiped kitchen, laundry with washing machines and dryers, hot showers and toilets. 8 minutes walk to the Doubtful Sound departures and nearby to Fiordlands great walking tracks with the Kepler track being 9 km away. Suitable for couples or solo travellers.
Possum Lodge is set in natural native bush surroundings. Quiet and restful. Only 8 minutes walk to the Doubtful sound cruise departures. Very close to Lake Manapouri beach and Waiau river. Milford Sound 2.5 hrs drive from Manapouri.
  • Great cozy stay with nice guest lounge and equipped kitchen. Good getaway from the over crowded Te Anau.

  • Budget stay in a scenic place

    Angelo Anojan2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • It was a very simple and uncomfortable place to stay. We didn't knew that we had to take a shower and go to the toilet outside our lodge. But the bed was okay and the lodge was clean!

    Roy2016-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Even though this is only a bedroom you still have access to bathroom, kitchen and loungeroom facilities. So we found this lodge to be good value. It is a handy place to stay if you are going to Milford or Doubtful sound. Leanne was helpful and left the key out for us, as we arrived late.

    Andrew2017-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Possumlodge is in a great spot. We only stayed for one night prior to an overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound, but would have stayed longer. It is within a short walk to local provisions and restaurants. The facilities (great showers) are good and there is even wifi in the lounge area!

    Oliver2016-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Basis room for back packers. Friendly welcome; wifi limited, maybe because some guests were downloading movies. The full kitchen was a nice touch; it had everything you needed. Close to great hikes in Te Anau and Manapouri.

    Simone2016-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • A small, clean room with a definite camping ground feel. We were happy to have the toilets close to the the room but the fact that the showers were further was a little inconvenient.

    Carlo and Charlise2017-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • Basic accommodation, the room was clean and the shower was hot. Right next to the lake.

4 year old purpose built holiday home on own private section, plenty of outdoor living area (gas BBQ) and space looking into Fiordland National Park. The open plan kitchen, dining and living room is spacious and designed for families or groups. Lovely warm alpacas duvets are on each bed to ensure guests have a warm comfy nights sleep along with black out curtains. Unlimited free Wi-Fi and plenty of DVD's and games, books and puzzles.
Spacious 3 bedroomed home located within a 2 minute walk to the Doubtful Sound departure point and Lake Manapouri and amenities. Located in a quiet cul-de-sac feel like one of the locals. We run alpaca feeding tours with our alpacas at 5.30pm each day which our guests can join free of charge as part of their experience of staying in one of our cottages.
The neighbourhood is a quiet little cul-de-sac made up of homes built in the last 4 years, the neighbours are either holiday makers like yourselves or retired so no noisy neighbours around.
  • Jessie's house is lovely, well maintained and fully equipped, so our stay is very comfortable. Jessie is very responsive to my last minute request for the pull out bed and extra linens. We visited the Alpaca farm and her gallery and were warmly received, they shared with us their passion and knowledge of Alpaca farming.

    Helen2017-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about our stay here was amazing. The house was perfect for our group of 7 adults and 2 young kids, and Jessie was extremely accommodating and helpful. It was a pleasure to stay here and next time we are in this area we will cross our fingers to re-live this experince. Manapouri is seriously underrated and I highly recommend coming to visit to anyone - and staying here! :)

    Jemima2017-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the cottage. We arrived after a very long day of driving and it was everything we needed- warm and cozy. We cooked a fantastic dinner, utilizing the gas grill - making for a very easy clean up. We also got to meet and feed Jessie's alpacas, a real treat. 5 out of 5 stars, wish we had another couple of nights.

    Emily2016-12-02T00:00:00Z

    Thibaut2017-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • the living room is the highlight of the home. You could probably spend all your time here- warm sunshine, a piano, toys for the kids- make it a perfect lounge. bedrooms were okay- a bit small but not a bother. just one thing which was a minor bugbear for us- separate hot and cold taps in the washbasin. The garden is great too :)

    sumedha2017-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Felicity's retro retreat is in a perfect location (2 minutes from the lake) and ideal for a stay in the Fiordland area. The house is very spacious and was clean and comfortable - yes it's retro, and the fittings are dated, but that doesn't impact its functionality. We had a great stay!

    Sarah2017-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Felicity's place is very nicely located near lake Manapouri. You can see the lake and Southern Alps from inside. The perfect place to start a Doubtful Sound cruise or for a day on the Kepler Track. It is really very fascinatingly retro. The kids had lots of fun with all the available space and getting to choose a room to sleep in. The kitchen is well-equipped, even with an espresso machine. And it was nice to have a bathtub for a change. We really enjoyed our stay.

    Chikara2016-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • The house took a long time to warm up. If it wasn't for the mattress heater on the bed I think the night would've been unbearable. Also the kitchen was very bare - not even a proper knife to cut our vegetables. I ended up using a cheese serving set and a carving knife to make dinner. Sarah was kind enough to let us change our reservation to another day when bad rains slowed us down in our trip. The best part of the house was its location. The morning sunrise on the lake was worth waking up early for.

    Karina2016-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah has a well equiped kitchen. the location is very near to the lake, my daddy enjoyed the morning walk by the lake.

  • We booked one night at first but turned up stayed two days in this lovely place. Bars and restaurants is just next door. The place is actually more spacious than it looks on the pictures. Plenty of food in the fridge and cupboard. And plenty of clean towels too!!! Amen to that, as we had a very last minute booking quest for a second night. Sarah is very friendly, easy to talk to and helpful. Saved our second night in town as something went wrong for our booking at another place at the very last minutes. Highly recommended!

    Bruce2016-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • We felt right at home in Sarah's comfy Bach.

    Angelika2016-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • After doing the Kepler track, it was a relief to stay at Sarah's place! There's a good restaurant next door and also a kayaking expedition just next to it that we did. If I had to come back around, I would ask Sarah again, for sure!

    Gil2016-03-19T00:00:00Z

  • Very nice little cottage, with a nicely appointed kitchen, Bluetooth speaker to stream music through, and a good location. The view is of the river; it's about a 10 min walk down to the lake front for the really spectacular views, and there's a nice path you can take through the woods to get there. If you're lucky, you may even be visited by some sheep.

Our place is situated right on the Waiau River overlooking the water and magnificent beech forest Mountain views 3 minute walk to the Real Jouney's Departure point for Doubtful/Dusky Sound You’ll love my place because of its rustic and comfortable features First built in 1941, recently renovated to uplift and restore its character Fresh linen/towels BBQ My place is good for adventure seekers, nature lovers, couples, business travelers, families (with kids), big groups, pets outside
Our home is very warm and comfortable. It is suitable for anyone looking for a rustic experience but with comfort and style. As we can sleep up to 10 people and have 3 bathrooms, there is ample space for larger groups, but it is not too big for a smaller number of people or anyone traveling alone. We are nestled right on the bank of the Waiau River, where you can see the water and beautiful beech forest from our lounge room and deck. There is also a path from our house that connects to a mystical walking track which runs along the river and leads to the lake. A great walk to spot bird life and hear there song. Our corrugated iron ensuite bathrooms and original kitchen and fireplace give it a very rustic feeling offering a wonderful lodge style holiday space with plenty of character. Although our home is an original 1941 cottage it has been recently renovated and restored. We have saved a touch of the old by restoring original wall paper in the lounge room and have chosen a blend of antique and modern furnishings; achieving a wonderful balance to transform this once upon a time cottage into a rustic holiday lodge. Including creature comforts such as platinum linen on all of our beds, air-conditioning for both heating and cooling, heaters in each bedroom, fireplace, new kitchen appliances and a wonderful Breville coffee machine for the coffee lover, you are sure to love this space. PLEASE NOTE: * This is an historic 1941 cottage that has had a rustic renovation. Our home is furnished with clean and comfortable modern furniture and brand new quality appliances, the house itself however is not a contemporary dwelling. * In the warmer months of the year sandflys inhabit areas close to rivers and waterways which is a natural occurrence in New Zealand. Please be aware that you may encounter sandflys in the house. Its a good idea to avoid leaving lights on when not in use and when possible close doors and windows as much as you can to avoid them from coming inside. We have supplied a natural sandfly repellent and body oil for your use and comfort. Please fell free to use these products. We hope that you appreciate the character, warmth, comfort and cleanliness of our home as much as we do. Enjoy your stay at Mountain Beech Lodge!
  • Great house in an amazing location. Walking distance to the doubtful sound cruises.

  • This house is in a beautiful location, comfortable and thoughtfully presented. All amenities were clean and quality linen provided. There is space to move around and the house easily accommodated 8 of us. There is local support for any issues that may arise or additional needs. There are no window coverings, but the house is very private.

  • The property is in the heart of the adorable village, Manapouri. We loved the walking track next to the sea, that abuts the house. Everything you'd need to prepare a small meal or breakfast. The place was clean and easy to find. Communication was on point. It is an older house, to note, and isn't much of a match for the sandflies. Also, there are no window coverings, which can be a bit unnerving if showering at night. Otherwise, a wonderful place. We'd recommend to friends or family.

    HM2017-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place grew on us after the initial impression of being rustic and more like a cabin.

  • Kristanne's place is fantastic old house with beautiful views out of each bedroom. It is in a lovely location and had everything that we needed for our stay. A great place to stay if you are travelling to Milford Sound.

  • Great location and very comfortable house. Not sure we managed to work out whether we could get normal TV through the internet TV. Worth noting if you are travelling in a group that the bedroom windows don't have any curtains/blinds! Not ideal privacy wise. Also the smoke alarm seems to have been removed so it needs replacing. But overall a great spot if you want a quiet location by the lake. Thanks Kristianne

  • Enjoyed staying in this cosy cottage for two nights. Perfect for families. Great host.

  • Beautiful home! Clean, very spacious home in a quiet and convenient location. Great backyard area to enjoy the night skies and sounds of the nearby water. Manapouri is a neat town with a couple restaurants, and an easy 15-20 min drive up to Te Anau for more shopping, dining, activities. Kristianne was a perfect host and made it very easy to check in, and gave easy to follow instructions for wifi and other accommodations. Also a good, prompt communicator. I highly recommend!

In our home at Riverside Cottage we offer you a great welcome, a very comfortable queen size room and a private bathroom plus your own access to the garden and driveway enabling you to come and go at your leisure. The river behind the house (featured in the main photo) gives a wonderful ambiance to our living area and is greatly admired by our guests. All Doubtful Sound and West Arm tours leave from the river just four minutes walk along the lane. It is very peaceful and quiet and so scenic.
Our home is a peaceful haven from your busy travelling schedule and a welcome is assured. Our lounge overlooks the bush and Waiau River with a spectacular view. We are set off the road and the house is nestled in an English style garden for your enjoyment and rest.
We delight in the peace and quiet of our little village and the interaction with neighbours and friends. There are two cafes and a Motor Inn where you can get meals or take a trip to Te Anau 22 kilometers away where you have a large range of eating establishments. Lake Manapouri is the 2nd deepest lake in NZ and has bush clad mountains extending to the water's edge and is considered the most beautiful lake in NZ. Our home is only a 4min walk to Pearl Harbour the departure point for all Lake Manapouri Cruises, Kayaking etc, and Doubtful Sound trips. There are short day walks around Manapouri or a water taxi can take you across the river to do longer walks. Te Anau highlights include trips to glow worm caves, trip to the cinema, day walking tracks. Access to both lakes is very easy. Milford Sound is just 2.5 hours drive and all the major walking tracks eg. Milford, Routeburn, Kepler Tracks are in the vicinity. The only nightlife is the amazing solar display on fine nights, the hooting of owls and the call of deer or a beer at the pub.
  • Highly recommend! Comfortable home, and great company. Great place to unwind after coming back from a rainy day at Milford Sound. We were treated like family. Thank you!

  • Was a real pity we only stayed for one night, this was easily our best airbnb experience for many years. Firstly, their place is literally a 4 min walk to the pier for our doubtful sound overnight cruise, which was extremely convenient. The room was very spacious, and all necessities were provided, there was even electric heater for the bed which was crucial in the cold. Their house was absolutely lovely and clean, and had a great view of the lake (note matching bed sheets and curtains, curtains and tablecloth, very pretty). Breakfast was nicely prepared for us, with cereal, toast, yoghurt, milk and juice. However, most importantly, Shirley and Russell were a lovely couple, genuine great hospitality. Russell even came to pick us up when we returned from our cruise, because he was afraid that we would be too cold! Highly recommended!

  • Our stay at the Majestic Manapouri Moments was very comfortable and pleasant mainly because the heartfelt welcome by Shirley and Russel, and moreover frank chatting with them that covered many subjects since we are in the same generation. We particularly thanked Shirley for her kind acceptance to use her kitchen and some of her ingredients. The mussel cooking there became one of the most memorable dinners in our month long journey. Russel, thank you for taking us to the port. We really enjoyed the Doubtful Sound Crusing. The room is so clean, tidy and decorated very charmingly. Definitly recommend this Airbnb others.

  • Our host was a blessing on our trip. They were wonderful company and went out of their way to help on any and every area they could. The place was warm and welcoming and felt like home. The gardens were beautiful and a spectacular view sitting in the lounge. Shirley and Russle have servant hearts and I would be delighted to visit again.

    Mel2016-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • Shirley and Russell are incredibly hospitable, and welcome you into their home like family! The location is great for exploring Southland, particularly Doubtful Sound and Milford Sound, and we would recommend to anyone else travelling in the area.

  • Wonderful & Amazing! Place is very clean, beds extremely comfortable!! Everything is perfect! To know them, is to love them! They made us feel right at home from the first moment! They chatted with us, watched some All Blacks Rugby with us! They got out the maps to find where we were from and spen the next afternoon telling us which trails to 'trek'! They are excellent tour guides and the best hosts! Gave us some hot NZ buns for the hike too! The place is even more amazing than the pictures... And Shirley is more lovely than the pictures as well. Smile! (Love you "aunt" Shierly & "uncle" Russel!!... You're family now!) We hold a mutual faith and were greatly encouraged by their faith stories and visited their amazing church! Obviously, we can't say enough about how wonderful they are! Majestic indeed!

  • Shirley and Russell were wonderful hosts who embraced every opportunity to share the region, its history, locations to visit as well their time to enable a memorable stay for us in Manapouri. Very comfortable and private facilities yet we were part of their home as well. Highly recommend this venue and hosts for a few nights.

    Julie2017-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Shirley's house was exceptional. Shirley & Russell went miles and beyond to extend their hospitality. Their kindness and thoughtfulness saw us through from the beginning to way beyond after checkout. It was homey and divine at the same time - admiring the majestic natural beauty of Manapouri from the living room while sipping tea and chatting with such wonderful hosts like Shirley & Russell. Thank you, Shirley and Russell for this memorable experience!

We enjoyed coming back to this place after very exciting day trips! Prompt and clear communication. Everything was easy and pleasant. Thank you.

  • Sallie was very helpful and gave us good advice. The house is in a terrific location for Doubtful Sound tours. We cooked at the house on arrival and kitchen facilities and BBQ were great. Sallie also recommended Kepler's in Te Anau.. Great dinner!

  • The Manapouri Lodge was a great find during our stay in New Zealand. The house was well kept and is within walking distance to many of the towns restaurants and shops. I will be looking to book this again during my next trip to New Zealand!

  • Absolutely fantastic.Pristine condition.Far superior to usual holiday lettings.Highly recommended.

    David2017-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • We totally enjoyed our week stay! The house itself does not have exceptional views from the windows, but this was not a drawback as everywhere you walk and drive are world class views! When we were home we wanted to enjoy meals, a glass of good wine and a comfortable bed! The house was just as described; being new, clean, comfortable furniture and a nice, quiet neighborhood. The WIFI let us book trips, etc. and both the WIFI and Sat. TV worked well. A new washer/dryer did it's job. We did a lot of cooking and everything worked. Setting a crock pot of soup going before we left let us come home and enjoy. We appreciated the good supply of well dried firewood and sat watching TV and the fire after long days of sight-seeing. A short 5 minute walk to a local pub across the street from the lake and a easy, flat 15 minute walk along the lake to the bottle store were a welcome bit of exercise after car rides. The house location provides far shorter travel to the sights we wanted; 5 minute walk to the Doubtful Sound departure, stunningly beautiful drive to Milford Sound and a short drive to the Glow worm caves departure in Te Anau. We also took longer day drives to Riverton and Glenorchy that were well worth the effort. Truly the only down side to this house is you have to plan groceries, as the small local store has very little. We had no trouble with this as the short drive to Te Anau was not a problem for us and we stocked up on our way home most days.

    Lee2016-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great house in great location for our early morning morning Doubtful Sound kayak trip. Also close enough for a day trip to Milford Sound (about a 2 hour drive). Shopped for groceries in nearby Te Anau. Definitely recommend and would return again.

My place is a self contained house with a fully fenced garden. Two minutes walk to the Doubtful Sound departure point and walking distance to lakefront, restaurants and shop. It has amazing river, mountain and bush views, a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and leather lounge suite. My place is good for couples and families (with kids).
  • The views from the home, the quaint setting of the town, the comfortable beds and homey feel of the house all added up to be a wonderful stay.

    Michael2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great house in a beautiful and peaceful location. It is spacious, clean and well equipped. Very close to the jumping off point for Doubtful Sound but otherwise very quiet - we were glad we stayed in Manapouri rather than the more touristy Te Anau.

    Clare2017-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • We love the garden and the scenery surrounding! stunning view. The story of the house owner, Mr. Bulling, is very impressive. Manapouri is a lovely place, although what we travelled is Milford sound, we are grateful that this bnb brought us to manapouri. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Lilian2017-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a delightful stay in Manapouri. This place was close to the water with a great view from the dining/ kitchen area. The location was great for going to Milford sound , and for leaving to Dunadin when we were done. The unit was upstairs with great views. The only downside was a staircase that was a bit steep to the downstairs bathroom. The bathroom was large, and bright, with a easy access shower. Good heating and the water got nice and hot. The beds were comfy, and the linens were great. The kitchen was well stocked, and had a stove for actual cooking! Great I would recommend this house !

    James2017-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Located in Manapouri, a 20 minute drive from Te Anau town. It would be ideal for those looking to hop onto the Doubtful Sound cruise, but not so for those looking to be near the Te Anau town. Hosts were kind enough to turn the heaters on for us which was appreciated because we arrived after sunset, but because it was a cold night, the portable heaters did not feel sufficient when the temperatures dropped midnight. The kitchen is well equipped but some items were not properly cleaned and had residue from the previous user. The toilet is separated from the shower, which is a good idea given that there is only 1 of each to share among 5 of us (the home could probably sleep 6-7 people). We could connect to the network but there wasn't any internet connection (apparently technical issues for a few days). Would have been good if we were told about this when we made the booking because we chose wifi as a filter selection. Overall it sufficed for a 1 night pitstop.

    Janice2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and big house suitable for big traveling groups. Well maintained. Rebecca was very kind to inform me that I left my charger and I went back to retrieve it. Would highly recommend this place especially for those who are doing the doubtful sound tour as it is just a few minutes walk away

  • Kristy's place is the best! Well stocked kitchen, BBQ, and laundry, as well as comfortable beds. It's just around the bend from a little Mexican eatery with a nice local feel. Also petrol right around the corner. The place felt quiet and private. We were able to walk out the door and down to the river. It was perfect for launching our hikes into the Fiordlands. 20 minutes to Te Anau for groceries and more restaurants. Highly recommended. Thx Kristy!

Our place is close to the lake (less than 5 minutes walk) and Doubtful Sound tour departures. You’ll love our place because of the views, the location, the ambiance, and the outdoors space. Our place is great for couples and travellers.
New furnishings and beds throughout. Awesome views of the lake and surroundings. Eco friendly toiletries and cleaning products used - no nasty chemicals.
The house is a couple of minutes walk from the local restaurant. The Doubtful Sound tour departure point is a couple of minutes drive as is the local store. Te Anau the nearest size-able town is 20 minutes scenic drive. We are approximately 2 hours drive from Milford Sound, Queenstown or Invercargill.
  • Fantastic house, clean and spacious for our family of 3. Would have easily suited 2 couples. Vistas are spectacular to say the least, was a great jumping off point for our Milford and Doubtful Sounds tours. Manapouri is a very small town, nothing much at all, though Te Anus is only 15 mins. Te Anus has some great restaurants, check out The Redcliff's. Highly recommend staying at Jo's!!!

    Robert2017-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful place, serene beauty just outside the doorstep. The best on our trip in New Zealand. The view from the house is amazing, the house is very comfortable, with everything we needed for our stay. Jo is a very friendly host, and she has seen to every detail that made us feel at home. She even provided fresh eggs from her own hen. Lovely to stay there, would have stayed longer if we had had the time. Highly recommended.

  • Jo's Lake House was a wonderful escape away from our busy lifestyle. The view of the lake is unreal and the location was perfect for our Milford sound day trip. The house had everything we needed for our stay. Highly recommend.

  • Lovely house with a superb view. One evening we cooked suppers for ourselves and stayed in to enjoy the lake view.

    Diana2017-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Hands down, this was our favorite stay in two weeks in NZ. Jo is an amazing hostess and really has the details down to make her house feel like home - down to little details like the radio being on when we arrived, the shower and bath products in the bathroom, the pre-measured laundry detergent, the farm-fresh eggs in the pantry, etc. And then there's the million-dollar view over the lake from your living room...wow. The lake is a 30-second walk in case you feel like going for a refreshing swim. The home is in a perfect location for trips to Doubtful Sound, Milford Sound, and various kayaking trips (all of which Jo can help arrange).

    Peter2017-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • The Beach House is perfect! Not only are the views some of the best you'll have in NZ the house is stocked with everything you'd ever need - including fresh eggs from Jo's hens! The beds were super comfortable, the kitchen modern and well stocked, the living space was perfect for reading, relaxing and gazing at the incredible view! Jo even provides laundry soap, a drying rack and outdoor lines. We enjoyed walking along the beach and great hiking is only an easy few minutes away. If you want dining Te Anua town center is an easy 20 minutes with lots to chose from. Don't pass this one up - it's a gem!

This is a warm cosy place with comfy beds and plenty of hot water to come back to after a day exploring the sounds or tracks or even a day out on the lake. Manapouri provides the gateway to beautiful Doubtful Sound, a dairy, petrol pumps, cafes and a hotel within a few minutes’ walk and 20 minutes’ drive to Te Anau.
Warm cosy space to relax, two bedrooms, kitchen/lounge, wash house/toilet/shower, big section for the kids to play or great parking space, within walking distance to the cafes and shop and Real Journeys West Arm and Doubtful Sound office and boat ramp
Manapouri is a tranquil place with amazing scenery, the neighbourhood is a quiet place to come and enjoy the peace and quiet
  • Very lovely house with everything you need. The surroundings are amazing (lake manapouri, fjordland). The house is at 5 mins walking to the lake. It was perfect !

  • We had a nice time at Donna's place. Donna was great and very helpful with directions to the house. We were travelling New Zealand for our birthdays and Donna left us a card and a gift. Very nice touch. The house itself was nice with a great location in Manapouri, we were able to explore the Fiordlands with Donna's place being the perfect hub. We unfortunately didn't sleep too well and the place was missing that cosy, welcoming touch but we cooked some mean meals with the kitchen which was surprisingly well equipped. The heater worked very well too, warming the main area and the front bedroom for us nicely, and Donna even had it running for us before we arrived. Thanks again Donna!

    Jesse2017-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable home with all amenities. Beds warm and comfy, fully self contained and well heated but you need to bring your supplies as no shop in Manapouri, but Te Anu is only about 20km north. I think there are only 2 restaurants for Dinner in the town and we used the pub which we found had good food at reasonable prices. Brilliant location if you are doing a Doubtful Sound Cruise. As well as leaving an unexpected gift, Donna had the best bath towels we have had in 3 weeks and over 3500km's of Airbnb in NZ. Thanks Donna. Highly recommended.

  • This motel has the most lovely view out the front. An entire massive lake is just on the other side of the road. We even got to see a partial rainbow drop from a cloud and 'land' on one of the islands. Room very clean and well equipped also.

    Amy2017-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location and views of Lake Manapouri. The room was good - as you'd expect for a motel room, and the reception were friendly. The room had a microwave too, which was handy.

Relax and enjoy the birdsong in our wee cottage, only 10 minutes from Te Anau. Our small farm, borders Fiordland National Park, Beech forest and the Waiau River.
  • A rustic cottage outside of Te Anau. Lots of space. Nice touches such as the voltage conversion chargers available. You can watch the alpacas in the field next door and pat the dog. There is no dryer but there is a good sized clothesline with clothes pins.

  • Idyllic spot away from the tourist traps, yet close enough to everything in Te Anau. My new home away from home.

    Scott and Shawna2017-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, roomy cottage with fantastic views across farm land to the snow capped peaks. Helen and Pete are very friendly and helpful. Our children loved playing with the dog, feeding the alpacas and playing the many board games!

    Christina2017-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Helen and Peter were wonderful hosts and the secluded home was perfect for a relaxing Christmas. Location is only 10 minutes away from restaurants, shops etc. in Te Anau or Manapouri. The house looks over the valley and towards snow capped mountains and is on a working farm. Highly recommend this holiday house for a relaxing break. One thing to note is the there is no TV, internet and limited phone reception. We enjoyed the break from technology but others may not.

    John2016-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Didn't meet Helen in person but her husband and son are very nice guys. This is a beautiful house surrounded by farmland with cows and two cute alpacas. It's clean, comfortable, with more beds than enough and everything we need for a two-nights-stay. A few kilometers from town, no wifi and poor Spark coverage but these are not bad things if you want to enjoy an unplugged quiet stay in farm. Pitty that most of the time during our stay was rainy or very cloudy, this is an ideal place for star gazing as well.

    Zhe2017-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very scenic and we loved the Alpaca's, Helen was a great host

    Marc2017-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Accomodation in a big separate house where the hosts lived some years ago, and you can tell - there are good, functional solutions for everyday situations, ex hanging your laudry to dry inside, there is a lovely fireplace and all you need is provided. A little bit old and not very stylish, but very functional and a nice basis for exploring the absolutely wonderful Fiordland National Park. You need a car, but if you have one, it's only a short drive to Te Anau, and even shorter to both car parks of the Kepler track. Also only a short drive to Manapouri, with nice walking tracks. You will get to know two alpackas, a dog and a hen (it might be a little bit hard to stay here if you're afraid of dogs). The hosts are really nice people, Helen's husband helped us with recommendations on walks, and also told us about the area. We felt taken cared of but also had our privacy. We're very happy with our stay here, and if we comeback back, we will stay for at least two weeks, as there is so much to see and do in the area!

If you are looking for a beautiful rural setting close to Te Anau and Manapouri, this little cottage could be just what you need. It has lovely views and is clean, cosy and well equipped. Please note that we have a large, gentle dog.
Our charming cottage is small but contains everything you need for a comfortable stay. There's no laundry but I am happy to do laundry for you, except in times of water shortage (happens occasionally even in this famously wet part of New Zealand!) when we use a laundromat in town.
Mararoa Cottage is fifteen minutes drive from Te Anau, gateway to Fiordland National Park and the road to Milford Sound. A folder in the cottage details local walks, some within walking distance of the cottage.
  • Catherine was a warm, welcoming host who was extremely knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife offering many helpful suggestions for things to do. We loved the cottage. It was very clean and comfortable with the most amazing views. Thanks!

  • Catherine's charming little cottage was a beautiful retreat haven. We had everything we needed to just relax and enjoy the countryside. The view from the kitchen window prolonged the task of washing up! Catherine was warm, friendly and enthusiastic about the beautiful Manoupouri surrounds. Her compiled folders of knowledge and love of local walks and wildlife were very helpful and interesting. Thanks Catherine for a very memorable stay! Cheryl & Geoff

  • Mararoa Cottage is a beautiful place to stay. Catherine welcomed us with homemade muffins and we enjoyed them. Catherine is looking after her guests and has a lot of tell about the Manapouri & Te Anau region. We enjoyed the Milford Sound Cruise, as well as her recommendation "Magical Musical Sunset Sail" with Manapouri Lake Cruises. On our next visit of Te Anau, we are going to book Mararoa Cottage again.

  • Staying at Mararoa Cottage was one of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand. The sunrise views from the cottage are absolutely breathtaking. Catherine was so friendly and met us on arrival with fresh baked muffins. The cottage is the perfect base to explore Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound. Once you are here you will realize you need more than two days to explore the area--there is so much more to do than just the more well-known vistas. We loved that Catherine provided lots of local guides with notes written in them for suggestions on other things to do in the area. We hope to find ourselves staying at the cottage in the future and would highly recommend it for anyone looking in for somewhere to stay in Te Anau or Manapouri.

  • This cottage is really a good place to spend few days in Te Anau. It is convenient to do the milford or doubtful sound cruise. It is very clean in a nice environment and Catherine thought to all facilities for travelers. She is a lovely and friendly person. We recommend to meet her and his family if you plan a step in Te Anau. Special award for the delicious eggs from her chicken.

  • Such a lovely airbnb experience! Catherine was charming (delicious homebaked muffins on arrival), hospitable (washing our post-Routeburn clothes. We love our neighbourhood! We live on the edge of the Fiordland National Park, have the cycle trail between Te Anau and Manapouri just outside our gateway, and the Waiau River abundant with Rainbow and Brown trout, just a few minutes away.

  • Fiona was warm and welcoming - fresh home-cooked cookies on arrival were a treat. The cottage was as advertised - roomy, comfortable, warm and spotlessly clean. Fresh towels daily, super comfortable beds with fresh, new linen and bedding. Spacious modern bathroom (suitable for disabled) and well equipped kitchen and a bbq on the front deck. Beautiful views of the sun setting over the hills from the chairs on the deck - great place to relax. The alpacas were fun to watch and our teenage daughters enjoyed feeding them. Thoroughly recommend staying here - well located for visiting throughout the area and great location for going on to Milford Sound.

A traditional Mongolian style yurt with views over Fiordland National park next to Lake Te Anau, the Kepler track and within 5 minutes of Te Anau.
Our cosy, beautiful yurt is perched on a wooden decking on an amazing hillside with jaw dropping views of Lake Te Anau and within gentle walking distance of the start of the Kepler track, one of New Zealand's prestigious great walks in Fiordland national park. The yurt comes with solar panel lighting from a Turkish stained glass lamp, a head torch to guide you to the bathroom, a New Zealand wool duvet, hot water bottles and extra blankets so you are guaranteed a snug night while breathing perhaps the cleanest air in the world, in a simply breath taking location. There are bathroom facilities by the front door of our family home, including a bath and shower and eco products and towels. Sometimes you share this facility with a farm helper, but it is always clean. We also provide fair trade and organic tea and coffee making facilities and fruit. Within the price, we don't provide breakfast or dinner for our guests because visitors like to use the cafes in Te Anau (the Sandfly cafe is great for breakfasts). However, if you don't have your own car and don't want to cycle we can usually arrange for you to participate in our family meals for an extra fee. Please advise on booking if you might require this. You are on a small working farm so expect chickens and cats, sheep and cows over the fence. On starry nights we can also remove the roof of the yurt so you can star gaze while falling asleep, there is no light pollution so the night sky is amazing. You can also borrow our family bikes and helmets to cycle in two directions on an amazing new cycle trail very close by. In one direction you cycle into Te Anau township, and in the other direction you cycle down a Lord of the Rings river next to Fiordland wilderness. There are also fabulous running and walking tracks in the national park, of any length you need. If you have your own car we are easy to find and are a five minute drive from central Te Anau. We send directions on booking. If you do not have a car we can arrange your pick up and drop off from the bus stops. If you are planning to walk the Kepler or any other of the great walks near us (Routeburn, Milford, Hollyford, etc) we can give you tramping advice or even rent you equipment. Mary is a mountain guide and Andrew is a kayak guide so we can also give you kayaking advice and tips on visiting Milford sound. You can leave your belongings with us while you are tramping and we have a lock box for your valuables. We also have plenty of parking space and can transport you, or arrange your transport, to the start of hiking trails if required so you don't have to leave your vehicle in public car parks for several days.

  • Kepler Oaks was a wonderful part of our holiday in New Zealand. While in the country, we had a sophisticated city experience and a luxurious resort experience. Kepler Oaks was a wonderful contrast--providing us with a comfortable, rustic farm stay. The view from the chalet was spectacular. We enjoyed watching the horses in the field as well as Helen's children play. Helen is warm with a great sense of humor. She stocks the place generously--and we especially appreciated the delicious home baked treats fresh treats she left in the chalet each day.

  • We had a great experience at the chalet. Fantastic view and surroundings, homemade delicious bread and cake. Helen let our children do pony riding, bottlefeed the lamb and much more which was highly appreciated. We definitely recommend this place.

  • Helen is a very good host who provides excellent services. She is very thoughtful and Has attention to details. She set up fire place for us and even pick up our laundries from the washing machine. She communicates very well. The property is well maintained, clean and cosy. The breakfast is very good. Five stars....

    Michael2017-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • Helen was a warm and friendly host. We enjoyed the lovely fresh bread made by Helen each day and our kids enjoyed playing with the dogs. The house was small, and not particularly well equipped, for a family of five. We had our suitcases in the living room and had to share cereal bowls etc, as there weren't enough to go around. The cottage would be better suited for a smaller family.

    Jillian2017-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • Helen was so hospitable! From first contact until we left, everything was easy. The photos don't do the place justice. It was so cozy and perfect for our little ones. It rained a good portion of the time we were there, but the yard was perfect for the kids (in raincoats) to run about and splash in the puddles, and then warm up in front of the fire afterwards. Helen took us to feed the animals several times, and took my 3 year old on a horse ride down the street to he river. She made us fresh bread each day and was just so lovely. We had the best time, thank you!!

Helen was amazing and was the best host we had in New Zealand. The farm stay was very clean, warm and accommodated 5 adults comfortably. We went on an awesome/fun hike near the Chalet that was a major highlight for us. Highly recommended! Thanks again Helen!

    Te Anau, Southland, New Zealand

Our home is situated close to 'The Key', named such as it is the only road leading to Milford Sound, Fiordland - through Te Anau....The Key to Fiordland. A vehicle is required to drive here as it's a farming area. Quiet, private, with gardens to enjoy.
There is an outdoor breakfast area available if the weather is warm, as well as further areas to just sit and read. Take a night or two to plan your forward journey in this amazing part of Southland.
We live in a rural area on an escarpment overlooking Fiordland to the west. It is a unique country environment. The last 3km of access is on a dirt road which is also a No Exit road, providing further privacy and quiet. This area is like a Retreat.
  • Lynne's home about a 30- 40 minute drive to Te Anau but it is well worth the drive! Her beautiful home is set up for complete privacy and comfort. It is tastefully decorated with lovely furnishings. Lynne welcomed us and made sure we had everything we needed. In the morning a tasty breakfast was left outside our room when we awoke. The grounds around her home were like being in a garden. Needless to say our room was spotless.

  • We had a wonderful time at Whare creek. The room was beautifull, big and very clean. The breakfast was included, very yummy and with a lot of choice. We loved staying here, Lynne was a wonderful host and gave us great tips for our travels.

  • Lynne and Jims place was lovely and cozy to stay in. The surrounding Mountain views are stunning and we were lucky enough to see snow on the Mountains. The room is very neat and clean with lots of space! We were provided with an assortment of breakfast foods and milk. We really enjoyed our conversations with Jim and Lynne, they have a very friendly and welcoming vibe, we could only hope to come back again!

  • Perfectly equipped room with private bathroom and separate breakfast area. Great view on garden and mountains. Lynne and her husband live in an awesome surrounding and have a really beautiful property. If you love nature and do not mind a longer drive to Milford Sound, stay here.

    Nadine2017-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lynne & Jim are wonderful hosts, the apartment was filled with special touches & thoughtful little gestures. The gardens were magical, with special secluded sitting patios surrounded by flowers, from which you can enjoy the sunsets & views across sheep fields & beyond to the soaring mountains. And the night sky beats anything we have seen. Wonderful people!

  • I can highly recommend Lynne's place. Its even more beautiful than shown on the photos. The room is cozy, clean, quiet and lovely decorated. The view is so stunning. And the outside seating area is surrounded by so many beautiful flowers. If you want to enjoy the beauty of nature this is the right place for you! Unfortunately due to my short stay, I just met Lynne once. But nevertheless I felt so welcome and comfortable.

Quiet peaceful location, handy to walks, lake and Te Anau township. Fully self contained with use of mountain bikes and kayaks. Come share our piece of paradise, we'd love to have you stay.
  • Kim was a lovely host. The housebus was nice and cosy with the fire, which we enjoyed each night. The property is nestled in gorgeous surroundings, totally majestic. Very delighted to have had a chance to share her little piece of heaven.

  • Wow, we enjoyed the stay at Kims place so much. The bus is spacious and has all things needed to have a relaxed and comfortable stay. As well the valuable tips for our trips were helpful. We would stay there for sure again Many thanks Faby & Pius

  • Kim and her family were really welcoming and super helpful - before our visit answering our questions and during our stay. The accommodation in their family bus was an absolute pleasure to stay in! The place was warm, cosy and nostalgic (I was instantly reminded of the joys of caravanning as a kid!). The kitchenette was great, allowing us to make dinner and breakfast. The accommodation was only a short drive to Te Anau town centre, so it was a perfect location for our Fiordland adventures. I would love to re-visit as I have very fond memories of this place.

  • Loved our stay in the cozy house bus! Communication with Kim was great, she was super fast to reply to any question I had. The house bus was as described, very comfy, equipped with everything we needed for a few nights stay. Location is fantastic, it's a great place to enjoy Fiordland, as well as views from the house bus itself are great. The farm fresh eggs were a delicious and thoughtful added touch! Highly recommend a stay here!

  • Really cosy bus. We loved it, especially the pot belly stove

    Sue2017-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in Kim's bus definitively was a great experience! It was cozy and we could even light a fire in the oven for some extra cozyness :-). Kim gave us some useful advice for our visit to Milford Sound. We would always stay there again.

  • Jan greeted us with open arms on our arrival. Once she had shown us our rooms and we had settled a bit, we had a great chat about the area and what we can expect and things we might want to see. Jeff arrived home from work a little later and we had a chance to meet and talk with him as well. The property was more than offered and we had a wonderful time there. We stayed two nights and breakfast was a treat each day, with choices galore including cereal, fruits, toast one morning and bacon and eggs the next. The guest lounge was large with TV, DVD, Music and very comfortable couches and chairs. We recommend this property to anyone who enjoys a quiet day to reflect and prepare.

  • As we drove into the beautiful country setting with well kept gardens and a few sheep and Alpacas next door, we were greeted by the smiling face of Jan, who instantly made us feel very welcomed. She and Jeff did not hesitate to give us good advice about making the most of our visit to the Te Anau area, including making phone calls on our behalf. We also learned a lot about New Zealand history and life while talking with Jan and Jeff. The private room, bed and bath were very comfortable, attractive and appreciated. Each day we were sent off with a breakfast that was fresh and tasty. Our stay at the Alpine Rock Cottage was our first experience with airbnb and we could only wish that every stop on our 30-day auto trip would be as enjoyable. Jan and Jeff took care of all our traveling needs.

  • Jan and Jeff were so welcoming and kind and helped make our trip extra special. Their home is very comfortable and we felt quite spoiled with afternoon tea, wine and cheese, and hearty breakfasts throughout our stay! Also beautiful gardens to enjoy. Jan and Jeff are experts on the local area and helped us greatly as we had to modify our itinerary slightly at the last minute. The location is perfect as Te Anau is the launching point for 100 adventures! Loved the house, loved the hosts. Could have stayed for much longer!

  • We really enjoyed our stay with Jan and Jeff! The room was very nice, common areas were beautiful and breakfasts were delicious! Jan was happy to interact and advise as needed during our stay in NZ. We would stay there again!

  • My husband and I are coming for honeymoon and we have a lovely stay with Jan and Jeff. We were offered with homemade Christmas cake and my husband had a great time enjoying the beer with Jeff! Jan is a really lovely host and we enjoyed her homemade breakfast! Highly recommended and we will be back for our wedding anniversary! xxx

  • What a beautiful place to stay and chill out in lovely surroundings with fantastic hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for Jan and Jeff and they gave us a lovely welcome on our arrival. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and well provided with all the essentials and more. Breakfast was a wide choice between cooked and continental and was delicious. Jan and Jeff gave us much info about the local area and NZ in general. Perfect hosts, they made us feel very much at home. After only 24 hours we felt we had known them for years.....!

    Elizabeth2016-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We loved meeting Jan and Jeff. They were lovely people and made us feel so welcome in their home! Jeff made an awesome breakfast for us each morning - the best! We had great accommodations and everything we needed.

  • We had a wonderful time staying with Jan and Jeff! From the moment we arrived, they went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. They made us coffee when we arrived late, packed breakfast to go when we left early for kayaking, offered to store our luggage while we were on the Kepler track, ...the list goes on. The home cooked breakfast was delicious and we really enjoyed speaking with both. Highly recommend to anyone staying in Te Anau.
