“One of our favourite cocktail bars in York in the evening and place for lunch in the daytime. The Thai inspired food is fantastic and so is their Sunday lunch, which always surprises us.”

“One of York's best independent eateries offering a very extensive Mediterranean menu with pizza's, pasta's, risotto and a whole choice of other wonderful dishes. Plenty of seating across 2 floors and 2 buildings as well as outdoor tables with overhead heaters too. This place has a real buzz about it, great service and lovely food! No bookings taken unless groups over 6, deposits required for group bookings.”

“Just a short walk out of town to Bishopthorpe Road area you will find a bustling high street with plenty of places to eat and do a spot of local grocery shopping. Angel on the Green, a converted bike shop still has a repair service and small area with bike accessories. A local independent place to relax and enjoy a drink and something to eat. They always offer a specials board with light bites and something a little more substantial. Try the fish finger sandwich.....fresh light battered fish goujons between two thick slices of soda bread! Delicious! Homemade food, with something for everyone.”

Restaurant
“This has the feel of a NY steakhouse – big-boy steaks with no-nonsense chips. It also has a theatrical bent, so while the deliberately minimalist menu will leave you wondering how the nettle is utilised in their East Yorkshire rabbit terrine, Scotch quail egg, pickled baby vegetables, tarragon mayonnaise & nettle, the waiting staff will deliver the answer with a practised flourish.”

“There are so many restaurants and bars within a 10 minute walk: Cognac, an authentic French restaurant on Chanterlands Avenue. Need to book in advance. Da Gianni on Princes Avenue; highly rated Italian restaurant. There are Moroccan, Indian, Persian, Greek restaurants as well as many bars also serving food on Princes Avenue. Newland Avenue also has a wide choice of places to eat including Larkin’s Bar, Sleepers and Craft and Dough (reduced prices on Tuesday and Thursday). Or if you just fancy Fish and Chips there’s The Friary - a 5 minute walk away. Bring them back, I’ve got plenty of salt and vinegar!”
