  • Gorgeous home with everything you need. We were a group of 8 adults traveling around the country. Everything we needed was available in the house for us. The hot tub was an added bonus which we totally enjoyed!

  • We had a great time. The house is beautiful, large and yet really cosy for all the family. It’s in a great location, only half hour drive to Belfast and hour to Giant’s Causeway. Michael is really helpful and showed us around on arrival. Many thanks.

  • The house is lovely, perfect location for a range of places! Very quiet in the area, great for a big group.

  • Large house in good location for us but facilities were insufficient/unsuitable for our large family and property (and garden especially) was dirty. Definately not 5*.

Mount Hanover, built in 1690, is a unique period country house nestled in the heart of the Boyne Valley, close to Dublin city and airport. It is the perfect base from which to explore Ireland’s Ancient East and historic sites such as Newgrange and also Dublin city. Built over four storeys, Mount Hanover is an imposing place, surrounded by formal gardens, woodlands, stables, 100 acres of farmland and a walled garden.
Mount Hanover commenced construction in 1690, the year of the Battle of the Boyne. The stables sheltered the horses of King James and romantic local legend has it that King James’s forces held out against those of William of Orange at Mount Hanover. It is said that the Bellew family, who first owned Mount Hanover, forfeited the property as a punishment for their support of the Catholic king, who lost the battle. Legend also has it that the Great Emancipator, Daniel O’Connell spent a night in Mount Hanover in 1842 en route to the famous public rally on the Hill of Tara and that he took Mass here – it’s possible as the oratory is consecrated, with a fabulous original stained glass window. The house was owned by the Matthews family for over five generations until 1985. The current owners bought it in 2015 and have carried out extensive refurbishment of the house, which boasts 7 large predominantly super-king size bedrooms. While retaining its period features, including cornicing dating to 1760, the house is also fully modernised with all mod cons, including central heating, WIFI, SKY etc. Dinner can be arranged for guests in the dining room which seats twelve, with a large open log fire. The sitting room also has a large open fire and is cosy but spacious at the same time. For entertainment, the house has its own indoor swimming pool, changing rooms and sauna, games room with dart board, table tennis and modern gaming consoles. Croquet can be enjoyed on the lawn where one can enjoy the pastime of kings. There is a patio area to the side of the house, perfect for relaxing during summer days with a cocktail or for having a BBQ. Or we have new all weather tennis court with a tennis pavilion. The tennis pavilion has sink, barbecue, pizza oven, smoker and sink. There is a conservatory which captures the sun from morning to dusk and is a tranquil place to read or enjoy afternoon tea. The mature gardens have been well tended and over 200 young trees have been planted in 2016. A number of protected species of birds and mammals live in the gardens and the River Nanny flows through the farm, to the River Nanny Estuary and Shore SPA Natura 2000 site a few kilometres away. There is a walk way through the gardens and woodland, which is perfect for bird watchers and those interested in getting back to nature. Both inside and outside, the house exudes atmosphere and a country house charm. It is an ideal vacation setting for family and friends.
  • Fantastic venue for off-site meetings and team building events or if you just want to chill out and relax. The spacious house has everything you need for some nice time off! Game room, swimming pool, sauna are well maintained and in spotless condition. Sorry for having your brand new BBQ on fire :P (Website hidden by Airbnb) There are plenty activities around the house, Golf, walking, shooting and fly fishing etc. You will not be bored. The hosts are very nice family, friendly and kind! They are very guest experience obsessed and willing to help out with many last minute calls! My stay hosted 1 night for 16 guests. The trip offered fantastic experiences of beautiful Irish countryside. If you are a first-time golfer, the house also has its secret helper for you with some swings!! ;) The owner is a very professional businessman and potato farmer, Really enjoy working with him hosting the event.

  • The house is beautiful, with lots of character. With a swimming pool, pool table, tennis courts, BBQ dining area, darts, spacious rooms and large grounds the house had eveything needed to entertain the entire extended family, of all age groups.

  • Had a fantastic stay at Mount Hanover house over the New Year. Cannot speak highly enough of the facilities and the experience during our stay. Set in a fantastic rural location, the property itself is breathtaking, offering a truly unique experience. Our thanks must go to Angus for providing a truly memorable stay and one that my friends and myself shall look back on fondly in years to come.

  • Mount Hanover House is the perfect setting for an intimate wedding. The house and gardens are beautiful! Angus and Sonia made us feel most welcome and worked very hard to make the day memorable and special. We cannot think of a better place to have a wedding!

  • Mount Hanover House was the perfect venue for our family occasion as we had small children with us and from the moment we arrived Angus and Tim made us feel relaxed and at home. The house is truly beautiful - large enough for us all to have plenty of room yet still feel very warm and welcoming. Angus had the fire blazing on our arrival and Tim was already preparing our food in the kitchen. The pool was a big plus for us with the kids and it was the perfect temperature and very large considering this is a private home. Tim is a true professional and a gentleman - it was a pleasure having him prepare our dinner for us. The food was amazing and he gave us great advice in advance in choosing the menu. We really enjoyed chatting with both him and Angus and getting to know them. From start to finish we had a wonderful time at Mount Hanover - it was a family event to remember and we would highly recommend this venue to any group.
