Girnwood Holiday Cottage is a spacious detached cottage with great views. A peaceful relaxing cosy break awaits, perfect for walking, wildlife watching or just switching off and doing nothing.
Girnwood Holiday Cottage is a spacious, detached, self catering cottage with great views. It has had some modern improvements but the kitchen and bathroom are simple in style. Bedrooms are comfortable. We are 10 miles from the Borders Woolen Mill town of Hawick . It takes 20minutes but feels like twice as far the first time you come. It is single track and narrow roads with passing places which are challenging for some to drive with confidence. Take care as timber lorries use these roads and can be going quite fast. After more than 5 years of potholes and damage to the council road up to the farm a full reconstruction has now finished and it is smooth tarmac again. However the last 300m of farm track into the cottage is still quite rough and it is recomended to drive slowly with care. The extensive views are of unspoilt border hills but you are close to the farmhouse where the owners live and work should you require any assistance. There is no wifi and very limited phone signal. Access to internet can be arranged at the farmhouse. But in the Scottish Borders we call it 'super slow narrow band!!'
Girnwood is a small hill farm with 550 cheviot ewes, with a further 120 young female sheep to join the flock for the future. In spring and summer over 600 lambs will be running with their mothers on the hills and fields surrounding the cottage. There are 45 Galloway and Luing cows and an Aberdeen Angus Bull. They calve in April and May. At certain times of year there will be lambs and calves to see and haymaking in the summer. But do be aware that this means that it is always sensible not to walk in the field where you see cattle as they can be agressive with young calves. Or if you are out on the hill just give them plenty of space . My 2 horses are usually in the field in front of the cottage. They like apples and carrots, but please do not feed them bread. Pets (dogs, cats, parrots, ferrets etc) are always welcome but must be on a lead when out walking but are safe to run free in the enclosed garden. Scotland promotes access for all to the countryside so you are free to walk cycle or ride anywhere.
  • A very scenic and peaceful place. If you want to unwind, this is for you. Very comfortable and clean.

  • Everything was great, Jennifer, the cottage, the location, the confort... we had a great familly night (2 parents + 3 children).

  • We had a wonderful few days in the shepherds hut for my Son's 2nd birthday. Idyllic is the only way to describe Girnwood. We felt so welcome with toys left out for my son, but left to our own devices. Stunning walks on the doorstep. It was brilliant being so close to all the animals, the horses at the garden fence were a real hit. We'll definitely be back. Home away from home. Thank you so much x

  • Jennifer's house is amazing and she was very helpful. Everything is just like it is shown in the listing. The house has a perfect green view. I definitely recommend her house to airbnbers.

  • A little bit tricky to find, but an absolute pleasure once you get there! Jennifer was so kind and made us feel very welcome, providing us with plenty of information about the area. Access to laundry and kitchen was excellent, and we all felt very "at home" in our private cottage. Thank you for the lovely night! :)

  • Lovely remote cottage with a huge wood burning stove in the living room.

  • We were made to feel very welcome on arrival and the cottage was warm and cosy and all we needed was to hand. Fabulous views and comfortable beds.

  • Jennifer was extremely kind to come and meet me at almost midnight on the A7 (some 20 minutes away), to guide me to her lovely, truly remote (!) home. It was a wonderful, peaceful, and all too short a visit.

Wood for the stove can be purchased from us, please bring your own charcoal and torch.
miles of unspoilt coast line. great walking and cycling. peaceful with amazing dawn chorus. and fantastic starry nights.
  • The yurt was large enough to accommodate my family of four, albeit a bit tightly. The walk to the yurt involves dancing around horse and sheep droppings, and note that there is no shower provided. This may limit the number of days you would be willing to stay, although a bucket bath was very easy to do. Great location for exploring southern Scotland. Kids loved it! Alison was very welcoming.

  • Lovely place and quite unique! Friendly hosts and a great experience. If you want to get away from it all for a little while, this is a great place to do so :)

  • We loved the yurt! Cosy night under the stars. Our host was welcoming and got us settled in straight away

  • Another wonderful stay with fantastic hosts! Thank you x

  • Amazing Yurt experience, Alison and her daughter Ruby went out of their way to make us feel welcome, but also give us all the space we needed to make us feel we were truly in the middle of nowhere...dark sky, woodburner in the yurt very VERY friendly horses and in the middle of amazing countryside and not far from some stunning villages and coastlines...would highly recommend, light the bbq, start the fire pit, lay down the blanket and lose yourself in a million stars..Thanks Guys...

  • The yurt was awesome. In a stunning location with loads of wildlife, including a free horse alarm call!!! The wood burner kept us toastie and the rain on the roof made it feel like the best place in the world to curl up with a book

  • This place is just magic! The yurt is cosy but spacious with everything you could want or need - from board games to bottle openers. The location is perfect for getting away from it all - our only neighbours were sheep, horses and a beautiful grey cat. The hosts were friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend

  • Stunning location. Wonderfull, warm and thoughtfully put together yurt & facilities. We had a magical couple of days in the snowy end of December. A really special place. We also visited Wigton's very cool bookshops & the nearby standing stones. Thanks for your hospitality.

Castlerigg Stone Circle, just outside Keswick, is perhaps the most atmospheric and dramatically sited of all British stone circles. • Host was very welcoming, and phoned shortly after arrival to ensure all was okay

  • We were pleasantly surprised with the high quality of this wonderful accommodation. It will not disappoint. We had everything we needed to enable us to really relax, unwind and kick back in quiet comfort, even with our two little ones. The surrounding area sells itself with stunning views, wildlife aplenty and the walks are not to be missed. Don't hesitate in booking this one if it is available…we will be back. Thank you

  • It was a lovely, clean and warm little lodge that we both felt completely at home in.

  • Truly a home away from home. Extremely comfortable, beautifully presented, sparkling clean and a delight to return to each day after exploring the beautiful Lakes District. Ralph your welcome phone call was so genuine and the information you provided over the phone and within the villa was so helpful. We just wished our busy holiday schedule had allowed us a few extra days. Would love to come back (albeit from Australia) as soon as possible. Greg, Lis & Olivia Taylor, Canberra Australia

  • This lodge deserves 5 stars on all aspects! We stayed in the lodge for 3 nights, and everything about the lodge was perfect. This is definitely a place we can recommend to others.

  • Ralph's lodge is beautifully presented in a lovely quiet location a stones-throw away from the spectacular North lakes. The lodge had everything we needed for our trip, a well stocked kitchen, comfortable lounge, and access to the best scenery and walking in England... Everything was easy and straightforward for our stay, we'd definitely come again.

  • We expected lodge to be nice, but than we saw it, we felt like living a dream in different world !!! Our long weekend break was lovely and this place made it even better. We had everything what we needed and Ralph was very helpful host. We are definitely going to come back and stay in the lodge. Thank you so much for making Lake District experience so good :)

  • We all loved Ralph's fantastic lodge - it was very comfortable and luxurious with plenty of space and everything you could think of for your stay. We really appreciated Ralph's phone call to welcome us to the lodge too! All in all, we can't fault our stay - the perfect place for a girls weekend :-). Thanks and all the best to you, Ralph!

Moor Row House was our family home. It is a huge place, part Victorian Mansion and part Cumbrian farmhouse. It has bags of character and is a great setting for a get together with family or friends.
There is masses of space! There is a huge farmhouse kitchen with Aga and a large laundry room. The house has two sitting rooms, both with working fireplaces, games room, orangery, eight bedrooms and five bathrooms (two are ensuite). The house is furnished with older style furniture, but mattresses are all recently renewed. It is not immaculate, but is comfortable and full of character.
This is a quiet area of a beautiful county. We are situated between the lakes and the sea with views of the fells and of Scotland. Amazing sunsets.
  • Fantastic property for a family get-together, just as the reviews describe. We were not disappointed and just loved all the period features of the property. We had a few children in our group and even the 1 year olds had plenty of room to explore. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again. Thank you Ian.

  • Great stay. Visit was for a gathering of friends including both adults and children(and babies) staying. Massive accommodation with plenty space for all. By no means "high end" furnishing but clean, warm and fitted the bill for a big group gathering. Great location to explore the local area. Thanks Ian for lovely stay.

  • Great host, always quick to reply. Very flexible and accommodating. Allowed us a slightly later checkout at short notice. Great place to stay, plenty to see and do. Can easily accommodate a large group and has plenty of bathrooms/showers, large kitchen and large living rooms. There are lots of board games, a full sized snooker table and a darts board (bring your own darts though!). There is also a dishwasher and washing machine should they be required. Thanks Ian!

  • Really lovely place. I was surprised that the whole place was ours. We just picked up keys and was completely left to our own devices. We only stayed one night on our way through to Scotland but would definetly have liked to stay more. There was a really nice kitchen with aga. A fireplace as well. The fire wood that was left was wet so we couldn't get it going. But all in all a good trip

  • Great house for a friends or family get together. Very exciting for kids to explore and play in particularly that there are two sets of stairs and two wings to the house. Lovely to see old original features such as the room bells in the kitchen. We enjoyed cooking Sunday lunch in the Aga. Would definitely like to come back.

  • The house is fabulous. Plenty of room for a large group. Perfect location for us as we were a group of friends travelling from Scotland, Lancashire, Yorkshire and the Midlands. Ian's directions were really handy to find the house. The kitchen is large and really cosy. The aga took a bit of getting used to but instructions are there along with plenty of baking trays! The kitchen was fabulously equipped with plenty of plates, cups, glasses, cutlery etc. We loved the snooker table and piano and the children really enjoyed the board games. A lovely walk around the area too. All in all we had a fabulous weekend and would not hesitate in recommending it to others.

  • Had an amazing stay at Ian’s property.. the house was beautiful and full of character.. There were 7 kids and 7 adults staying and could still get lost the space was endless.. would highly recommend booking. Outside space was also excellent with lots of land to ramble.

  • The house was fantastic and great for a large group. As we were there only for one night, I don't think we got to make the most of it as a base. There is tons of space and the house is very well equipped and well heated. Ian's directions were spot on and overall was a very good stay

Self catering courtyard cottage in beautiful South Ayrshire countryside. Stunning views over Arran and beyond to the Kintyre peninsula. Culzean Castle is on your doorstep and you are 2 miles from Turnberry Golf Course. Pets always welcome.
  • The cottage on this seaside farm location is unforgettable. We loved our warm and engaging conversations with Sue and Dougie. They are a gold mine of information on Scotland, Scottish heritage, family histories and local attractions. My wife and Lynn loved visiting about their common interest as painters. Fortunately, Sue's art was being displayed in a beautiful local show, so we were able to see her pieces. We plan to revisit this location as much to continue our conversations with these delightful hosts as anything else.

  • Sue was friendly and helpful and the place was lovely ! Would highly recommend

  • Charming and cosy cottage at walking distance from the beautiful Culzean castle We enjoyed Sue's warm welcoming and really appreciated all the little thoughtful gestures on our arrival such as milk, butter, eggs, fruits, cereals, tea coffee and heating on. The cottage is very charming, and perfect for us. We had a really very nice stay and would not hesitate to go back again.

  • We were really made welcome by Sue & Dougie. Loved the little extras left for us - eggs, milk, jams and the homemade scones were delicious. It was wonderful to sit outside & enjoy views across to Arran

  • We visited for a weekend break and had a fantastic time. The cottage itself was extremely well equipped and very comfortable with beautiful views over Arran. Sue and Dougie couldn't have been more welcoming. They met us on arrival and were very helpful with information about the area. We will definitely visit the Cottage again in the future.

  • Lovely cottage in beautiful rural Scotland. Just across the road from Culzean castle, and a short drive to many other lovely places to wonder. The cottage was very cozy, welcoming and comfortable. Our hosts and stay were lovely.

  • A lovely few days away in a beautiful and quirky cottage. The cottage was clean and cosy warm when we arrived, and Sue left us some basics and scrumptious scones which was very kind of her! Beautiful views of Arran from the cottage too. A lovely welcome and wave off and Sue was on hand whenever we needed help. Walking distance from Culzean castle and country park where we spent a day, and 5 minutes from the beach. Great trip and recommended to all our friends and family. We will be back... With the dog next time!

  • Thank you so much for a wonderful stay in a perfect location. We found everything to be easy, clean and comfortable, with a few lovely outings right in our doorstep.

Donella Cottage is five star luxury. Enjoy the peace and unspoiled tranquility of Dumfriesshire country living with bang up to date modern interior and comfort. Pamper yourself with lots to do and see and a place that is truly home from home.
Donella Cottage was built in 1900 and was an old cow shed belonging to Drumlanrig Castle Estate. It has been completely renovated and offers all modern conveniences including free wifi, smart TV, large corner sofa, fashionable swivelling snuggle chair, quality oak furniture throughout and exceptionally comfortable soft furnishings. The cottage has a five seat hot tub which is private, screened by high fencing and for the exclusive use of guests at Donella Cottage. Guests who choose to visit will find an endless number of things to see and do and yet the area is largely unspoiled and teaming with wildlife. Guests will enjoy four star luxury living which even includes a welcome pack of basic items including wine and flowers.
The neighbourhood was formerly a small mining village but mining has long since gone. In its stead guests will find a very rural landscape with open cast mines transformed by David Jencks into a spectacular multiverse nearby and an area teaming with wildlife. Five deer live in woods nearby and a wide variety of birds including woodpeckers and birds of prey are in abundance..
  • Third time staying here and I love it more and more each time! I’ll be back again and again! Thanks x

  • Lovely property which is beautifully presented. Hot tub was well used despite the rain. A truly cosy cottage, which the kids, dog and we enjoyed. Thanks to Katrina for the welcome touches of wine, bread and some essentials. Area is quiet, but just what we wanted. We spent most of the time relaxing in cottage, getting takeaway meals from places nearby. Definitely be back

  • Had a brilliant stay with my mum nephew and dog, we visited drumlandric castle and Dumfries lots of lovely chilled nights watching Netflix on the smart tv then relax in the hot tub great time can't wait to go back thank you xx

  • Amazing relaxing break that had everything we could ask for. Would definitely recommend and be back in the future

  • A beautiful property in a scenic location. We loved every minute of our stay and Katrina is a very kind and helpful host who has thought of everything. Everything that you could possibly need during your stay is available- from the perfect kitchen which has just about every utensil you could possible need for cooking to a folder full of helpful information and things to do. The decking area is lovely and would be fabulous for al fresco dining had the weather allowed it. Loved the hot tub! Thank you for the wonderful stay. Can't wait to come back again! :)

  • Katrina's place is a wonderfully located spot on the edge of Kirkconnel. Everything about our stay was excellent - the place was spotless on arrival, the kitchen was superbly stocked, all of the furnishings are perfect and comfortable, and the hot tub is just a great bonus for an already great place. Fully recommend it to those seeking a place to use as a base to explore Dumfries and Galloway, and equally to those after a few days relaxation in a great spot.

  • This was the second time we stayed at Katrina's place and we loved it. We will definitely be back again! Perfect for relaxation and country walks. The house is clean and tidy, beds are comfy, and the hot tub is amazing! Katrina was very accommodating. Thanks again!

  • Everything was absolutely perfect! We were on our honeymoon and we couldn't ask for a better cottage to spend our first Christmas together! The house was beautifully decorated and there were plenty of little details that made everything so comfortable. We truly enjoyed the hot tub especially at night time when the temperature dropped(!) I would highly recommend this property and I'm already planning to go back perhaps in Summer! Finally I'd like to add that Katrina has been amazing in terms of communication and making us feel extremely welcome!

Twin and Double room in a large modern country home, set in an idyllic Scottish village. Within easy access to all that Dumfries & Galloway has to offer. Very friendly hosts that are happy for you to use the living space to relax and enjoy your stay.
The double room has an extremely comfy bed. The Twin has two single beds also comfy. Both rooms have TV, wireless Internet access and plenty of storage space. The open plan kitchen and living area are designed for relaxing and enjoying the country views. The large outside space is yours to enjoy, BBQ always an option.
Kirkton is a stunning small, peaceful and very friendly village. On our doorstep we have wide open countryside with endless walking and cycling routes. We have many Scottish castles and gardens near by, Dumfries and Galloway also boasts some of the best beaches and salmon and trout fishing rivers in Britain. There is a vibrant arts and entertainment scene for young and old with local restaurants to suite every taste.
  • Fabulous home and fantastic hosts, would highly recommend.

  • This place was amazing value and the breakfast was out of this world. I would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

  • Tracey and Roger were welcoming and relaxed hosts. Our stay was warm, comfortable and easy. We couldn't have asked for more. It is always a relief to find hosts who are at ease with small children! We also enjoyed a yummy Scottish breakfast before hitting the road again.

  • Everything was as described and made feel very welcome.

  • Tracey and her husband were friendly and great hosts who made us feel at home straight away. Nothing was too much trouble for them to help with. In addition, the rooms were clean and well decorated and the bathroom was huge! All in all Quinton House comes highly recommended!

  • We arrived at 11pm, yet our host greeted us with a smile. We had the best stay ever, definitely recommend to anybody. Extremely clean and beautiful.

  • Lovely clean house with very accommodating hosts. Highly recommended.

  • Tracey's place is even more beautiful than the pictures. It doesn't look much from the outside but once you step inside it's simply lovely. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The bathroom is beautiful. Tracey and Rodger have even prepared a menu of a few choices for breakfast. We had a full Scottish breakfast and we enjoyed the meal thoroughly. Bailey, their dog is very well behaved and adorable. I was initially quite hesitant in renting private rooms ( in fact this is the first time) as we always prefer to have the place all to ourselves . Tracey is a wonderful host; she exudes such warm . She is caring and friendly without being intrusive. She gave us our privacy . The whole downstairs were for our use. The only negative thing I have to say about our stay is actually not really Tracey 's fault but the pub recommended was a real disappointment. We were given 20% discount but both the steaks and mixed grill were really tasteless. Maybe Tracey can speak to the pub owner to improve the quality of the food or give other recommendations. Tracey and Rodger were such wonderful hosts and their home is so lovely I just don't want their recommendation of the pub to affect their ratings. Thanks again Tracey and Rodger for hosting us . I love the haggis you served.

Our double room occupies the top floor of the house. It is large and comfortable. It offers privacy whilst still being part of the household. We are situated near enough to comfortably walk into town but surrounded by trees, fields and peace.
Fiona and Roger's lovely house of art, music, books and peace is situated on one of the highest points in the city and has wonderful views. The house is within walking distance of the city centre and yet surrounded by huge mature trees, with extensive gardens. There is even a field to the rear with horses, ducks and geese! Carlisle is a small city, perfect for visiting the Lakes, Southern Scotland , Hadrian's Wall. It is steeped in history and boasts an award winning museum, as well as trendy bars and restaurants. Carlisle is a great place to stop off when cycling the Coast to Coast, Hadrian's Cycle Path or Land's End to John O'Groats. We have secure cycle storage. We are also 20 minute walk from the station. DIRECTIONS.:- Please note that sat nav will probably take you round the back of the house (up Tyne Street). Not ideal as track is bumpy and can be muddy!! So key in CHERTSEY MOUNT in your satnav and drive to the end. Walk through the gate at the end. Click on the address after booking for clearer directions if needed. :-)
Our home has all the benefits of being in the city but feels like you are living in the countryside! A GREAT LOCATION I'm sure you'll agree. Carlisle is a lively, safe, small city. It has a university and hence a thriving 'trendy bar' scene. I believe Carlisle has more trees per mile than any other city! With its tree-lined streets, gardens and parks there is always bird song to be heard.
  • Fiona is the greatest host. She is warm, kind, considerate in all aspects. Her place is artistically decorated, cozy and comfortable. Fiona's breakfast is the best We ever had. She even gave us a lift to rail station the day we left. You have to stay at Fiona's place if you go to Carlisle the Hadrian's Wall (the world heritage site) country. I will definatelt stay again at Fiona's house.

  • This is now my official second home in Carlisle! Fiona is a fabulous host, generous with lifts and her time. I'll be back for sure! Haze; : )

  • We were visiting friends who lived in Burgh by Sands and stopped with Fiona on the 21st May 2016. We received a very warm welcome from Fiona, she even drew us a map so that we could find them easily from her place. The room was light, airy, had a comfortable bed with fresh fragranced linen. Their bathroom is beautiful and the house is certainly full of character. Fiona is such a homeloving girl and she loves to share it with her guests. We had a scrumpy breakfast of freshlymade brioche bread, fruits, cereals and newly laid eggs from her own chickens. We had good conversation, lots of smiles and laughs and this was the perfect start en route to our holiday in Scotland, our first Airbnb and probably the best £40 we will spend all week! Thanks Fiona, we would love to come again.

  • Fiona and Roger truly are super hosts! They should be in a category of their own actually. Fiona thinks of absolutely everything - from the fresh from their chickens eggs, homemade bread and jam to putting out blankets and toys and books for our one year old son (not to mention having a cot, high chair and buggy for use!). The house truly deserves its name as shone of character both for all of the fantastic things collected from their travels but also the people themselves. We only stayed one night but I felt like we were staying with family or long time friends. This was the best stay I've had through Airbnb and if you're looking in the Carlisle area this should be your first pick! We hope to be back again later this year if/when we do some more traveling up that way for holiday.

  • It was lovely to be greeted by Django ☺️ the house is full of love and warmth from the moment we entered. Fiona was a great host and the bread was awesome. Thank you.

  • Fiona & Roger's home was very comfortable and homely. Fiona was a warm, welcoming and attentive host. The space and layout of the home afforded some privacy with the advantage at having the hosts on site when needed or just to chat to. Breakfast comprised of cereal, fresh fruit and Fiona's freshly baked bread and home made jams which were delicious. We had a very pleasant stay at Fiona & Rogers place.

  • What can we say? Fiona and Roger went above and beyond for us when we were in a medical pickle. Assuming you have a normal sort of stay, they are incredibly warm, welcoming and accommodating. A delightful garden, fresh baked bread, homemade jams... The bedroom is up a fair few stairs, but is otherwise has everything you might need. Thanks again!

  • What a warm welcome I received. After a long journey, battling the Southern rail strike, it was heaven to be picked up from the station by Fiona. I immediately felt very at home. I sat down and chatted with Fiona over a cup of tea and heard about her artistic pursuits. The location is great - not in the centre of town, but I enjoyed my evening walk into town for a scrumptious Thai meal recommended by Fiona. The room is perfect, with a wonderfully comfy bed. I slept so well. And the bathroom is amazing - felt compelled to have a luxurious bath! All this must have helped my performance in the interview that morning. Today I can confirm that I won the sculpture commission!! Thank you Fiona. I am looking forward to seeing more of you and your lovely home during my visits to Carlisle as I work on the commission. A cosy little cottage ideally suited to accommodate two couples situated in a picture postcard village where history and nature are right outside your door.
A Scottish cottage in a beautiful historic village. Built 1700 this two bedroom cottage has many modern conveniences, it is warm and snug with a wood burning stove plus oil fired central heating. The kitchen has all modern conveniences, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, fan oven, microwave, washing machine and tumble dryer etc. Both bedrooms have kingsize double beds. One bedroom is en-suite. There is a workshop / garage attached for bikes and stuff, parking for one car is directly outside. The cottage can be reached by bus from Dumfries where there is a railway station. It is worth noting that cell phone reception is at best patchy with only Vodafone working. It's really close to great beaches and coast plus hills and walking country. The house has a pub less than 30 metres away and a shop too. There are 2 of the wolrd famous 7Stanes mountain bike courses at Dalbeattie and Mabie plus a third one at Ae only another few miles further. The village of New Abbey is home to the 13th Century Sweetheart Abbey, and the water powered corn mill. There is a beautiful walled garden at Shambellie and an award winning tea room. All of these attractions are a vey short walk from the cottage. The house is great for nature lovers and those who want a break in rural Scotland. Guests will have access and exclusive use of the whole house I always try to speak to my guests on arrival and like to answer any questions and give advice for things to see and do. We will not be around during your stay but usually contactable by phone. New Abbey is just a really great little village with everything you need close at hand. It has it's own pub, tea room and shop so you could park the car and never bother driving all week A good local bus service connects New Abbey to Dumfries and from there long distance coach and rail connections for onward travel
It's a picture postcard village, a tearoom, general stores and pub complete the picture
  • We had a lovely stay in the little cottage ( not so little). The cottage was above expectations. Stephen made contact with us during our stay to make sure everything was ok. The cottage had everything we needed and was very quirky. It is set in a lovely historic village and is a stones throw away from a great little local shop. There was a great information pack which let us with loads to do.

  • What a stunner of a place. The house was beautiful and with cosy Xmas decorations too. We found the village hall and gate crashed their nye celebrations, very friendly bunch. Great walks, landscapes beaches wildlife. We couldn't ask for any more!

  • Great out of the way location. The house is quirky, however very comfortable. Would recommend a stay there. Stephen, although away during our stay, kept in contact and was very helpful.

  • The cottage was a lovely place to stay, very cosy, tidy and with all the things you might need for cooking. We really enjoyed our stay and felt very at home. Stephen made sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend it.

  • Port House is a lovely place to stay. I would thoroughly recommend it. The cottage is very comfortable and well appointed and the location is amazing. The pub is just round the corner and there is a fabulous tea shop just down the road by the abbey. Stephen was very helpful in the run up to our stay providing helpful advice on local activities/beauty spots and also called when we arrived to make sure we had everything we needed. I'd happily stay here again next time I'm in the area.

  • We loved this house and it was exactly what we were hoping for on airbnb. It was homely, quaint, but still had all the mod-cons that we needed. Stephen was an excellent host, easy to communicate with and quick to respond. New Abbey was conveniently located a short drive from Dumfries and is a cute little town worth a visit. Locals are all friendly and helpful. Could have stayed longer to relax and get through the rest of the library! Brilliant overall!

  • Just back from a weekend at Stephen's beautiful cottage. Port House is bigger than it looks, is quirky, unique and decorated with style and attention to detail. It has everything you could need and was the ideal place to get away from it all for a few days. The village has a pub, shop, cafe, heritage, lovely scenery and walks on the doorstep. Stephen made sure everything ran smoothly and I'd recommend Port House highly. Thanks!

  • The cottage was spectacular. We loved every part of it. It was beautifully laid out and ready for bus when we arrived. Stephen was so wonderful offering any assistance we could need. His directions were perfect. We wished we could stay longer, really get to know the cute town and take some of the hikes in the area.

See historic castles and ruins, museums, beaches, quaint towns and seaside villages such as Kirkubright, Kippford and Rockcliffe. At the far west end of the Solway Coast you’ll find the most southern lighthouse in Scotland, which is perched on the edge of a 260 ft high cliff. Truly one of Scotland’s finest panoramic views, on a clear day from the lighthouse you can gaze out across four kingdoms. Admire the Galloway Hills and western islands of Scotland, the Isle of Man, the Cumbrian Fells of England and the Northern Irish coastline. CRIFFEL stands dominant, like a border guard, to the North of Powfoot, looking over the Solway Firth to England. The 360-degree panorama, affords, one of the best views in Scotland. Criffel may be only 569 metres high, but its modest altitude belies its prominence, rising as the highest hill for miles around and dominating the Solway coastline. The ascent is short and steep, with stunning views of the Solway, its estuaries and across to the English Lake District. Dumfries has links with Robert the Bruce and Robert Burns; Gretna Green is the original quickie marriage one stop solution and Eskdalemuir is site of Samye Ling, the first Buddhist monastery in the west, a still thriving community with an impressive Tibetan temple, with a range of courses on offer. Caerlaverock’s Wetlands Centre, close by, is open all year round to show visitors the coastal landscapes and nature during every season. The most famous member of the wild life is the wild flocks of Svalbard, Arctic Ocean, Barnacle Geese between the months of October and April. Caerlaverock Castle, dating from 1270, is situated 5 miles from here, and is one of Scotland's best ruined castles and not to be missed. Also close by, and of historic interest is, the Ruthwell Cross which dates from the 8th century. It's huge at 17 feet and once stood right on the shores of the Solway Firth. Today it's housed in Ruthwell's parish church, within a few miles, from Powfoot. Visit the ancient ruins of Sweetheart Abbey (once a bustling Cistercian order) at New Abbey. The Devil's Porridge, at East Riggs, 5 miles from Powfoot, is an amazing exhibition and tells the story of the Greatest Munitions Factory on earth. During 1915, Britain was losing the Great War through the lack of munitions supplies. Dumfries Museum will delight aviation history buffs with its restored RAF control tower from World War II and collection of memorabilia from the town's rich aviation history. The Theatre Royal plays its own productions and receives visits from other theatre companies. Exhibitions and a collection of Scottish paintings at the Gracefield Arts Centre. The surrounding areas of Dumfries, particularly south at New Abbey towards the shores of the Solway Firth, hold a number of historic attractions, museums, a farm park and a vast Stately home country park attraction at Drumlanrig near Thornhill. Annandale distillery has now officially re-opened in Annan, which last produced a Lowland Malt 90 years ago. Well worth a visit. The iconic Caul upon the river Nith below the ancient Devorgilla Bridge is of early origin, in Dumfries town centre, known as White Sands. The Dumfries Forest Park covers 300 acres making it the largest and darkest, star gazing, forest park in Scotland, offering a wide range of outdoor activities for visitors. Annan's location on the first fordable part of the Solway Firth has always been of great importance. Because of its position, Annan suffered from many attacks during the Wars of Independence and border reiving. In recognition of the towns resistance and loyalty a Charter was granted to Annan by King James V in 1538. The town's Royal Burgh status was reaffirmed in 1612 by King James VI. Each year the Royal Burgh of Annan celebrates The Riding Of The Marches. Annan Riding of the Marches Day will be held on 1st July 2017, a family day for everyone, with the best of Scotlands marching pipe bands, competing.
  • Stunning home, stunning place, stunning everything. Lived every second. So peaceful. 10 out of 10 on everything. Definitely be back

  • Absolutely lovely little bungalow, just as described and in a stunning location.

  • Thank you for a great stay! The apartment had everything we needed and more as well as being in such a beautiful part of Scotland. We hope to come back and for longer!

  • We loved our stay at Powfoot Cottage. It has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing getaway for two people and is extremely comfortable and well set up. We were sad that we only stayed for one night.

  • Great as usual

  • An absolutely beautiful setting for a cosy, clean, comfortable and all round fantastic getaway option. We had a lovely weekend here and were provided with clear directions and information before arrival. Thank you Elaine!

  • we had a wonderful stay in Powfoot at Elaines pad, it is a very tranquil setting and the apartment is extremely well equipped, Elaine is on hand should you need anything.

  • Elaine was very welcoming and left some treats in the fridge for our arrival. The cottage was very well equipped, there was nothing else we needed. For a relatively small space it had some great storage solutions, lots of room to unpack and hang our stuff and plenty of clean towels to use. A great selection of DVDs was available and the sofa was great for lounging on into the evening. The cottage was well positioned for walks along the beach and admiring the big sky.

  • Our host picked us up and brought us to the accommodation. A feast of sandwiches, beautiful cake, and drinks were provided. Everything that could be done was offered and frequently accepted. The drive to Lake District- fabulous. Hawthorn Barn was lovely. Very comfortable. The garden in the back, an oasis of flowers and bare-foot tempting grass.

  • Excellent place and great hosts. Fells like Home away from home. Kudos to the host. After a car journey of about 11 hours (quite a heavy traffic on the highway), we were warmly greeted upon arrival by Phil and Kathy. They even prepared sandwiches for us. The place was in great condition, very cosy and relaxing. Phil had a file of facts which we could refer to and was always available to answer our questions. They were staying next door. This place is the perfect place for chilling out. The Lake District is about an hour’s drive and Carlisle city is about 10 minutes’ drive. Yes we would really want to be back here in the future.

  • Fantastic place and fantastic hosts. Kathy and Phil couldn't do enough for us and the food and drinks they had waiting for us was exceptional. We would thoroughly recommend this place to explore Northern Cumbria.

  • This stay went above and beyond any expectations we might have had. You were incredibly warm and welcoming and we were surprised and delighted by the cake, sandwiches, and nibbles. The place itself was lovely, we all had an excellent nights sleep. We were particularly taken by the cute bathroom upstairs with the deep bath. One of our party has been converted to small deep baths forever. The garden was marvellous as well. You were so lovely and we had such a lovely and luxurious stay, thank you.

  • The place was CLEAN and so very comfortable. Phil and Kathy greeted us when we got there to let us in and show us around the place. Then they left us to it with a giant plate of delicious sandwiches, fruit, chocolate, wine, and the best darn chocolate cake - home made too and I wish I had asked for the recipe! - I've had in a really long time. We didn't need to go out to dinner because we had everything we needed for the night. They provided all the essentials for the most comfortable stay. The only negative was that the wifi connection was spotty, but because it wasn't a huge issue, we didn't bother our hosts. As my husband described it, we got all the advantages of a Bed & Breakfast and none of the hassle. Phil and Kathy will surely be the standard against which we measure all other Airbnbs.

  • Fantastic! That's the only way to describe Hawthorn Barn. The accommodation itself is very comfortable and quiet. The welcome you receive is incredible!!! I really wanted to stay here longer. I travel all the time for work and I have to say Phil and his wife are the maybe the nicest people you will EVER meet!! Incredibly kind and friendly. I will definitely be going back at some point.

  • Very comfortable accommodation with lovely hosts.

  • Our stay at the beautifully restored barn was met by a real gentleman - Phil, who promptly let us in to the residence, showed us around and then presented us with all of the essential food groups:- Sandwiches, cake, (all wonderfully hand made), chocolates and wine..... We thought we had died and gone to heaven. The barn and gardens are well presented and lovingly restored, it is a real credit to the proud owners and a delightful place to stay. All amenities were afforded to us by Kath and Phil, who made sure our stay was well attended too and welcoming. The photo representation of the accommodation does not do the place justice, whilst modest in its depiction, the place is very much more spacious and comfortable for the two adult couples that stayed there. The location is quite close to all the scenic routes and tourist attractions near Carlisle and the lakes district. A "must stay and see" on any travellers agenda. We thank Phil and Kathy for their generous and welcoming hospitality and will definitely stay at The Barn again if in Carlisle in the future.

Escape from it all at this simple secluded, cosy cottage with stunning views, perfect for couples or families. Kids have space to make dens, climb trees and toast marshmallows. In the evening curl up by the fire, play board games or read a book. This is your own secluded holiday cottage set 1/2 mile up a track away from the main road and no other houses around. Whilst there is no internet or TV, there is a DvD player and you can get limited mobile access (vodafone and 02). Keys are in key safe. Once you have confirmed you will see the number. You have the run of the whole cottage and garden (except the caravan and shed which the owner keeps as storage). Although we don't live close by, we have family in the vicinity who can assist if there are any issues. Just call me on +(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) if there are any problems. Dogs - we're happy for 1 or 2 well behaved dogs, but please keep them off the furniture. The garden is not dog proof and there are sheep, cattle and horses in the neighbouring fields so they need to be kept under close control. However there is a nice walk down to the sea (over main road), where dogs can be let off the lead, and there are numerous great walks a short drive away. Rubbish collection - recycling bins at the bottom of the track (by the main road), are emptied on a Thursday morning. Please put your rubbish there the night before. Ruined castles, beautiful gardens, mountain biking, sandy beaches, lovely villages are all within a 30 minute drive of the cottage. Although there is a bus stop 1.5 miles away in Carsluith village, buses are very infrequent and you are advised to bring a car. The cottage is accessed by a rough track 1/2 mile from the main road (A75). It is perfectly accessible by a normal car, but do take care. Some firewood and coal is supplied, but please use sparingly. There's also a BBQ you can use (please bring own coal). Our children (11&9) love playing in the woods using the rope swing, making dens, lighting bonfires and using the zip wire. You are most welcome to do the same at your own risk. Please ensure your children are adequately supervised. The nearest shops are in Gatehouse (8 miles) or Creetown (3 miles). There are lots more tips and information in the cottage.
Ruined castles, beautiful gardens, mountain biking, sandy beaches, lovely villages are all within a 30 minute drive of the cottage.
  • The cottage is in a lovely, quiet position up a track on a hill above the main road with stunning views of the sea. It was comfortable and cosy inside. There is central heating, fuel provided for the fire, and a portable heater - none of which we needed as the weather was amazing! We enjoyed sitting outside in the sunshine. The main bedroom is spacious and there is a smaller one with full-size bunk beds. The beds are comfortable with good-quality bedding. A bottle of wine was kindly provided for us. We really enjoyed our short stay here.

  • Lovely cosy cottage with fantastic views. Perfect for outdoor activities and rest and relaxation.

  • Beautiful location and a well equipped cottage. We were there as a couple, but there is plenty to occupy kids with as well. A very tranquil and relaxing break. Thank you Stephen and Kate!

  • We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful cottage. The views are absolutely breath taking. The drive up the the cottage is bumpy as advised but this didn't stop us taking the car out everyday to explore the area. The cottage had everything that was needed and more and was so homely.. It didn't feel like a holiday rental. The local area is beautiful, we walked to the beach every morning and then to Galloway Forrest in the afternoon before settling down in front of the fire in the evenings. A superb host who is available to ask questions if needed. Thanks very much for our wonderful visit - we will hopefully return!

  • Thank you to Stephen for organising our visit with just one day's notice. I'm glad he did as we had a really enjoyable stay at the bungalow. The house is located in a very quiet, secluded spot. Not the place for you if you have a problem with birdsong! Great view over Wigtown Sands. House had everything you could need and more.

  • A beautiful spot in a very nice surrounding. Lots of possibilities to do within close distance. Very easy communication with Kate & Stephen. Thanks a lot!

  • Beautiful secluded cottage, great to get away and relax with long walks on the beach. Amazing views and evenings in front of the fire.

  • Cleughead cottage was all we expected and so much more! It is in an absolutely beautiful setting and the cottage itself has a lovely feel, very cosy and was perfect for a family. The directions were very clear and Stephen and Kate were very helpful in the run up to our holiday answering all our questions quickly. Our children loved playing in the garden and the woods and spotting all the amazing wildlife. We really enjoyed exploring the local area, especially the stunning beaches. We would highly recommend anyone staying here!

My place is close to parks, river, rural village, cafes, bars, shops, restaurant, golf courses, tennis courts, beaches, art and culture, cycling routes, walking paths, activity centre, wildlife, nature & transport links. You’ll love my place because of the cosiness, the views, the location, fully refurbished, large garden, decked area, log burner, fully equipped kitchen and the local people - welcoming and friendly. . My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids)(pets).
We offer a very tastefully finished retreat offer clean yet cosy accommodation. You are only a very short stroll from the local Bars and eateries. In the garden, you have a oasis of peace with views of the River Fleet, trees and hillside beyond.
Gatehouse of Fleet offers country living at its very best. A range of local pubs offering fine food and a great selection of beers, ales and more Gins that you would care to believe. Gatehouse has two convenience stores, post office, pharmacy, hair salon, bank and a fantastic tearoom which doubles up as a fantastic burger joint!
  • We were made very welcome, milk in the fridge, some delicious biscuits and some wine! Very comfy bed, big fluffy towels and the cottage was spotless. Very well appointed with everything we could have wanted or needed. Great shower and the log burner was a treat - also dead easy to use. Outside decking area very peaceful, plenty of bird life to enjoy, silence at night is amazing. So much to see and do, fantastic coastal and forest walks, the three main towns are all only 15-20 mins away by car in all directions. Gatehouse itself is charming and everyone is very friendly. Highly recommended.

  • The location is peaceful and relaxing. The house was just perfect and the photos don't do it justice. One double room and one twin room, full kitchen and outside sitting area. There was a beautiful 'Welcome Pack' awaiting us when we arrived. A wonderful place to recharge after a hard day of working. I would absolutely recommend staying here and this will be my only choice when back in Scotland. Robert could not have been more helpful and friendly. What a brilliant stay.

  • We have stayed here twice now and found everything to be absolutely immaculate each time. Amazing location in the charming Gatehouse of Fleet. If you've never been to visit this area then it is a must see/stay. We are from Canada and have been very fortunate to have seen many different areas of Scotland with our work, this area is definitely our favourite by far! Take a drive north of Gatehouse to Cairnsmore of Fleet for some great sightseeing. Robert and Donna's place is conveniently located just behind the Main Street of Gatehouse, close to all the shops and restaurants but quiet and private at the same time. We highly recommend this place to anyone interested in staying here!

  • A lovely little house in a beautiful part of Scotland. Robert has thought of everything in his Cosy Retreat. Nice pub and tasty local food within a few minutes walk and lots to do and see. Gorgeous walks are on the doorstep. The house has an attractive outdoor area with great view onto River Fleet - perfect for an evening sun downer and not a midge in sight! Would definitely return if we ever come back to the area. Thank you!

  • Very homely, finishing touches and milk, wine etc left for us made us feel at home right away. Log burning fire was the main thing we were looking for in our Airbnb property and we were not disappointed. Great that it’s dog friendly. Kitchen had everything needed to cook a good meal. Close by to cafes and shops but a short drive from “the middle of nowhere” - some super views and walks nearby. Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely property.

  • A beautiful retreat in a fantastic location. Walking distance to shops/ pubs. The area has so much to offer for all. Great info left in the cottage - thank you! As for the cottage... We loved the accommodation, lovely decor, tastefully furnished, comfortable and what a view! Really great detailed info about the cottage. We would recommend wholeheartedly.

  • This really is a cosy and beautiful retreat and it has everything you need for a comfortable get away from it all. The garden, if you are lucky enough to have good weather, is gorgeous and the house is done to a really good spec. We are a family of four and had everything we needed. The wonder even left us some milk and butter and some very welcome basket of complementary items. Gatehouse of fleet is a lovely village to stay in and the Galloway lodge is a wonderful place to eat especially on their burger nights! Masonic lodge was pretty good too. Amazing walks everywhere - highly recommend a stay here..

  • Cosy retreat indeed - the pics don't do it justice. Robert was quick to respond to messages. We had a great time and would stay again if we were in the area.

An excellent venue for group celebrations and familes, with versatile rooms, table tennis, pool table, darts, hot tub, cinema screen, fully functioning bar and library. Rural location. Sleeps 19 in beds with an additional double sofa bed and single put up bed. We have 3 double rooms, one with adjoining triple bunk room, a bunk room with 4 beds, and bunk room with 6 singles.
Mosspaul is steeped in Borders history and tradition and is itself a landmark on the road from Edinburgh to Carlisle. It is set in miles of beautiful rural countryside, where sheep farming is the main source of income. The house has recorded history as a coaching inn dating from the 17th century and was either a monastery or chapel before that called St Paul's on the Moss. It has played host to famous visitors and colourful local characters over the years and most local people could tell you a story or two about it. We chose to live here as the rural setting suits us (and our dogs!) and we fell in love with the old Inn on sight. Mosspaul has its own working bar, a sitting room with log burner and a multipurpose media room with 11 foot screen for DVDs, TV Freesat, and a box with Blueray, cds and HDMI connections for games consoles. It also has table tennis or dining for up to 28. The bar has a pool table and darts and guests can take advantage of our keg collection service to pull their own pints. The house has 2 double rooms ensuite, 1 bedroom with 2 double bunks ensuite, 1 double ensuite with an adjoining room with a triple bunk, 1 bunk room with two double showers and 2 triple bunks. All the bedrooms and stairs were recarpeted in November 2017 and the bathrooms in Rooms 1, 2, 3 and 6 have been upgraded in early 2018. Bed linen is provided, but not bath and hand towels. The house is rented as a whole so guests have exclusive use of the facilities.
Mosspaul is situated on the boundary between the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway, set in beautiful, but sometimes wild farm and moorland. The region has its own unique history and culture that differs from town to town. You will find excellent hill walking on the doorstep, and fishing, shooting, cycling, great roads for motorbikes, horseriding, quirky villages, museums, stately homes, forbidding castles, abbeys and shopping all close by. It is also an ideal place to kick back and relax away from the bustle of everyday life. There are festivals all year round, such as the Denholm Folk Festival and the Borders Book Festival. Possibly the most famous are the Border Common Ridings which take place each summer. This historic event dates back centuries and is still the main event of the year in each town. The people of the towns take to horseback and ride the borders of each area, just as they did many years ago when they kept them safe and secure from neighbouring thieves of livestock and land. There are two rideouts to Mosspaul itself taking place in late May every year. Please check the dates with the owners if you wish to visit at this time. Shops and supermarkets in Langholm (17kms) and Hawick (21kms) should cater for all your needs while you stay at Mosspaul. Mosspaul is set on the high point between the Teviot Valley to the west and the Ewes Valley to the East. We are 10 miles from Langholm and 13 miles from Hawick in an area of peaceful and thriving farm and moorland just by the source of the river Teviot. There are many walks right on the doorstep, and you can attempt the three Mosspaul Marilyns direct from the hotel without having to step into a car. Within easy reach by car are walking for all abilities, water sports at Keilder Water and off road cycling at both 7 Stanes and Craik Forrest. Rock UK at Newcastleton offers an excellent range of outdoor pursuits. Carlisle Airport offers flights in around the locality at very reasonable prices. If you are more interested in history, both Hawick and Langholm have museums and Hermitage Castle, Bowhill and Abbotsford, to name a few, are all within easy reach.
  • Had a great time at Mosspaul. Lots for our party to enjoy. Large cinema (I've been in smaller multiplex cinemas) which is perfect to enjoy a movie or play the Wii, which is also included. Kitchen has everything you will need to cater for your party. I made chili and curry for 21. Pots and range more than ample to allows to cook. Bar is well stocked with glasses. Everyone took turn serving behind the bar. Great fun. We used all of the bedrooms for our guests. All slept well and enjoyed a massive breakfast the following morning. I now think I can run my own B&B, surely it can't always be this fun. Highly recommend.

  • This venue is amazing, we had a stag party here and the location itself was outstanding, the venue was perfect, a bar, all the activities and bar sports you could want, great value, masses of space and an industrial kitchen to cook on, not to mention Alison and Eddie who were the perfect hosts and sorted everything we needed!! Couldn't reccomend enough *****

  • Mosspaul is exactly what it says on the tin, a very large house in a secluded, scenic area! A group of us stayed Fri-Sun to celebrate my husband's 30th and had a brilliant time. Highlights were the working bar area (much more fun than just hanging out in the living space), the large cinema room (perfect for a screening of our recent wedding video and favourite films) and big industrial style kitchen for cooking up a feast. Alison and her husband stay in a connected space and are around to help, but we had privacy and were able to party without any worry of waking the hosts! Our only (major!) regret is not working out that since the hot-tub can take 6-8 hours to heat, we needed to get up early on the Sat to get it going before it turned dark again, but it looked really cool and perhaps we'll get another go at it if we return in the summer!

  • Stayed at Mosspaul for a stag do, and had a great time. Alison made it all so easy. It didn't matter what we asked, it wasn't a problem. All the guys enjoyed pouring their own pints, and I enjoyed using the big kitchen to make a feast. There were probably times when we got pretty noisy. But that wasn't a problem as Alison and Eddie are on site, which is reassuring, but in a separate residence. Mosspaul is very remote, but as it's on the a7, there's easy access to transport. The x95 bus stops right outside. We would definitely stay at Mosspaul again!

  • Mosspaul is everything you hope it is from looking at the listing. Fantastic location, amazing facilities and an extremely helpful host. Alison was amazingly accommodating and ensured our stay went perfectly and without a hitch. Nothing beats pulling your own pint at the bar! That being said some members of our party managed better than others... Couldn't recommend enough.

  • Mosspaul was an excellent venue and I'd recommend to anybody looking for a unique, relaxed setting for their get-together. We had a group of 14 guys staying for 3 nights and the house was perfect, with plenty to keep us entertained - the centerpiece being our very own bar for the weekend. Alison was very helpful, showed us around the house and before letting us settle in to our stay. While the venue is connected to the owner's house, we never felt imposed on and could relax while knowing that any problems could be dealt with quickly. Hopefully we'll be back again to watch the rugby on the giant screen!

  • Mosspaul inn is absolutely fantastic. 18 of us were there for a stag weekend. We had an absolutely fantastic time. It was perfect. Alison stays close by and is available if you have any qyestions but otherwise stays out the way and leaves you to yourself. She was incredibly hospitable and accommodating for any questions or problems we had (in reality we didn't have any problems). She was lovely and charming to help sure we enjoy the stay. This place is an absolute gem in brilliant surroundings. I couldn't recommend it highly enough for a family get together or a weekend with friends. Thank you Alison and if you will have us again we will probably return in the next year or two. Cheers, Gregg and all the other stags

  • A group of 13 of us stayed at Mosspaul and had a fantastic weekend. It is well equipped for large groups - the bar, pool table and table tennis were all great. The bedrooms were all nice and comfy and catering kitchen was well equipped. We had a nice walk up the hill behind the house. Alison and her husband were very helpful and not concerned about us making noise, even late on into the night. We all highly recommend Mosspaul!

We are located on the edge of the Lake District National Park, within easy driving distance of both the historic towns of Cockermouth and Keswick, and also the stunning Solway Coast.
In addition to our five fully serviced caravan pitches, we have a popular camping pod here in our pretty gardens and caravan site on the edge of the Lake District, Cumbria. Add a touch of glamping to your break away. Enjoy your holiday or short break in our camping pod, which has so many advantages over traditional camping, and is ready for you to move in to! No fighting with canvas, and plenty of mod cons to enhance your time away. All you need to bring is towels and bedding!
Just a couple of miles from Greysouthen, you will find the historic town of Cockermouth. It is famed for its large number of small independent shops selling antiques, books, speciality foods and more. It has a fantastic selection of restaurants & coffee shops, and is also home to Jennings Brewery, the Kirkgate Arts Centre and the Taste Cumbria Food Festival. A little further on the A66 (about 20 minutes' drive) you'll find the adventure Capital – Keswick. There are too many treasures to mention around the Lake District, but you are in close proximity to many of the finest lakes such as Bassenthwaite, Crummock, Loweswater, Buttermere and Derwentwater. Mountain biking is available in Whinlatter Forest (England's only true mountain forest!), as well as Go Ape. Whether you are in to walking, biking, fishing, riding, or just wandering around the area, you will find plenty to do!
  • Great idea! Clean, friendly, peaceful, picturesque and ideal are just a few words we used to descibe our stay in the pod and the accomadation offered by Gill and her family. Easy to find and with a gorgeous veiw we laid in bed watching the morning tick by before climbing Scafell pike. The pod has everything you need and even boasts a smart TV! We spent the evening sat outside on the gravel garden next to a lovely flowerbed and left the following day thoroughy pleased with our trip. We will be back soon!

  • Gillian was really helpful and the pod was lovely! Such a novelty for the children and had far more amenities than we were expecting. We were met by Gillian's brother who was really lovely and helpful. The pod is on a small caravan / camping site which is set out really well and has lots of great amenities and is very clean and well maintained. It is only a short drive from Cockermouth which is a small town with many lovely places to eat and visit.

  • A lovely wee spot. Basic, but everything you need. Thanks!

  • What a lovely place, camping pod very cleaned and well laid out. Nice touches like chocolate biscuits, tea and coffee. We had a fabulous stay. Our children enjoyed playing with your Grandson and Mark was very friendly and helpful. We are sure to return.

  • We had an excellent stay in a great location! The pod was much more spacious than I thought it would be and it was also very clean and the site was nice and quiet. Everything we needed was inside, fridge, kettle, toaster and cooking hob and the fold down beds were comfy too. Would definitely recommend!

  • Lovely place with a great view! Metre for shower goes quicker than you might think so consider bringing extra £.

  • Great little camping pod with stunning view of the area. Very welcoming hosts with a relaxed atmosphere, would definitely recommend

  • I stayed here with my boyfriend for the weekend. We had a lovely stay, great location to explore the Lake District. Got some great advice for places to eat on our arrival, the camping pod has an amazing view and spot to have breakfast/drink outside.

Our beautiful camping pod sleeps 2 adults comfortably but could sleep 3 adults or 2 plus 2 young children. Based on our working farm with panoramic views of local fells and Skiddaw. Birdwatching tarn and Hide opposite. electric points and lights
Included in the stay is the pod with electric sockets and lights, oil fired radiator, carpet, black out curtains, outside is a designated parking space, picnic bench, storage box with shelf to cook on and fire pit. We also have a campsite and safari tent on site, these facilities are shared with our other guests. We have a games room with pool table, darts, x box and table football There are fold out foam chair mattresses included inside the pod to sleep on.
The pod is on our working farm, we have free range laying hens. We also have pigmy goats, alpaca's and miniature shetland ponies. We are 5 miles from the lovely market town of cockermouth and 15 miles from Keswick, both with excellent choices in restaurants, pubs and cafes.
  • Great location! enjoyed our stay

  • The site was really easy to find and we were greeted promptly by Marion who was very friendly and gave us loads of information and booklets on local walks (something which I requested during booking). The pod was exactly as described and we had an excellent night sleep next to the small lake! The facilities on the farm were great, I was actually surprised at the amount that was offered by the hosts for free (games room/hair dryer/internet connection) Wouldn't hesitate to stay again when we're in the area!

  • We had a wonderful stay. Marion made us feel welcome and gave us all the space we needed to settle in nicely. The camping place and the pod had everything we could've wished for and more! It was surprisingly warm and snug for our wintery stay. Great views from the bird hide, lovely bonfire, nice warm shower and friendly dogs. What more could we want? We can't wait to come back.

  • Would definitely recommend Marion's camping pod! Lovely and cosy and warm inside, and very clean! The toilet and shower facilities nearby are also clean and a very short walk away. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves

  • Fantastic and secluded place, ideal as a base for exploring the lakes. Fantastic place at a brilliant price.

  • I couldn’t of imagined a more perfect place to just relax and get away from busy city life. Marion was a perfect host with lots of helpful tips and suggestions, and her camping pod was so much better than expected. Me and my boyfriend just stayed for one night but fell in love with how pretty everything was. It was just far enough out of the way without being too isolated, a 10 minute drive to local shops/pubs but with nothing but silence (aside from a few quacks) when we were back at the pod. We will 100% be returning here. Thank you Marion and family!

  • The pod was fantastic, even better than it looks in the photos. The site in general was great, we were there for walking so weren't there with kids but the site is very family orientated with play area etc. Marion herself was lovely and seemed well organised. She made sure we had everything we needed and gave us plenty of local knowledge.

  • We had a lovely stay - the pod was warm and cosy, and the facilities and wash block were fantastic. Very secluded so no wifi or 4G which was great for a break from the world! Cockermouth was a 10 minute drive away and has a good selection of shops and pubs. There was a fridge on site that we could put our shopping in which made eating on site a lot easier. Really enjoyed our stay, thank you.

Next to our Grade II listed property we have a self-contained cottage available for three nights or longer. Situated at Boustead Hill, a small hamlet west of Carlisle on the Hadrian's wall walking/and the 72 cycling route, we are on the Solway coast which is an area of outstanding natural beauty.
If you want to book for 3 nights, a week or longer, we can offer you to stay in our cottage. Suitable for 2 adults (a double bed), although we can provide a travel cod (@£10 if you mention it at the time of booking.
In Burgh-by-Sands there is a pub: The Greyhound Inn, a post office and a church. Further pubs are in Monkhill and Glasson, I can recommend for eating ( they take orders till 8 pm ), and in Port Carlisle and Bowness on Solway.
  • My girlfriend and I had a wonder ful 4 nights staying in Raphaela's beautiful cottage. Originally a diary, the accommodation has been renovated with a beautiful modern kitchenette and lounge leading into the main bedroom with a spacious bathroom adjoining. The surrounding area is historic and very peaceful. A car is recommended to access the near-by City of Carlisle, as daily taxi rides will quickly add-up. Raphaela was the perfect host, always assisting, yet never intrusive. Thanks again Raphaela! Highly recommend!

  • Raphaela and her partner were wonderful hosts, welcoming us on a Sunday evening with wine, home-made cooking and lovely company. The warm welcome set us up for a lovely few days in the cottage, which is as cosy and enchanting as the pictures suggest. Nearby Carlisle is an easy 20 minute drive away, and there is plenty of beautiful countryside to explore on your doorstep. Overall a wonderful stay, we would definitely recommend it!

  • Raphaela was so warm and welcoming, it was an absolute pleasure to meet her. The cottage was beautiful and spotlessly clean. It is very spacious and modern. We would definitely recommend staying here. We unfortunately had to cut our stay very short but would have loved to have stayed longer to enjoy this peaceful place.

  • We had a very warm welcome when we arrived. During the days we had lovely chats about a lot of things (incl. touristic stuff :) and received valuable tips. The cottage is so cosy I didn't want to leave. Please do not the same mistake as I: Read the location plan. I didn't and so the location was hard to find. But that was my mistake. The cottage is a very good origin if you plan to spend your time partly exploring Hadrians Wall in day trips or visiting Lake District (~1h drive).

  • We had a wonderful stay at Raphaela and Steve's. They could not have been more welcoming. Such lovely people. The 'dairy' is just right. Compact but spacious at the same time. Loads of character whilst being modern and clean. Well done Raphaela for your keen design sense.

  • We loved every minute of our stay in the beautiful cottage in a beautiful part of the world. Raphaela was a lovely host and the attention to detail in the cottage was fantastic. It was a cosey, warm and welcoming space to relax after a day out walking. We really loved staying here and would recommend it to anyone, there's lots to see along the Solway coast and Hadrians Wall, but you're still close enough to explore Silloth or the lakes around Keswick. Would love to return in the summer! Thanks Raphaela and Steve :)

  • Superb place to stay ! Loved the way this old building had been converted . The garden was an unexpected treat . Great place to stay and a perfect host !

  • 5 Star !!! We loved it in the Cottage at Croft House. Raphaela and Steven were most welcoming and we soon felt like old friends. We will definitely be back soon. Also had a peak at the B&B apartment in the house ... Absolutely beautiful so will try that if we come for a short visit :-). thanks Raphaela for making us feel at home!

My place is close to the Solway Firth on the outskirts of Annan. You’ll love it because of the the gorgeous view over to the Lake District, the serenity of the area, and the bird watching opportunities. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers. Car parking space is available in the yard in front of the cabin. Table and chairs for sitting in the garden are supplied. The modern kitchen is fully equipped with fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave and oven/grill.
Being so close to the sea, you’ll find yourself in a breezy environment, but don't worry. Inside the coziness of the cabin you’ll have the perfect place to watch the many bird species, who play with the wind or come to the shoreline and feed after the tide has gone out.
The Solway Firth has been a natural barrier against invaders during historical wars, and a hindrance to commerce in peaceful times. Bowness Wath, the ford, linking Annan and Bowness, was an important Solway crossing point for cattle drovers until 1863. The Solway can be treacherous, with hidden channels and a tidal rise of 7 metres. In some conditions the tidal bore reaches a height of about 1 metre and travels about 6/7 knots. Therefore do not attempt to ford the estuary. A quote from Sir Walter Scott's 'red gauntlet' written in 1824 but still true today: "He that dreams on the bed of the Solway may wake in the next world" The Solway has been a rich source of fish for centuries. The traditional methods of fishing are with the Haaf net, and other forms of 'fixed engine' nets secured to the shore or seabed. There are three types of net used here to catch Salmon or Trout: Haaf nets, Poke nets, and Stake or Trap nets. During the fishing season nowadays, only the Haaf nets are permitted since new legislation was put into place in 2015. The Haaf net is a single net on a large wooden frame, which is carried into the channel and held by a fisherman. It’s a very serene sight to watch indeed. Afterwards, when the group of fishermen come back ashore, you can easily get engrossed in their banter as they change from their fishing gear to take home the 'catch of the day'.
  • Me and my husband had a wonderful stay here the host's were friendly and the lodge was comfortable. Was like home from home! It's in a excellent area secluded but not far from the town centre. Would certainly stay here again😊

  • It was a lovely stay with a wonderful view. The place had everything you needed and more - from playing cards to chairs to sit outside and fresh black pepper. The hosts were very friendly and super helpful.

  • An idyllic location on the shore of the Solway Firth, very quiet but with amenities (Tesco) only 5 minutes away, easily reached from the motorway and main road. We'll definitely be back, a tranquil retreat, great little cabin with everything you need and very considerate hosts.

  • What an absolutely gorgeous place. Really cosy and warm, best night's sleep ever, so many lovely touches like a bottle of bubbly for new year, and the most unbelievable view. Ilse and Bill are both lovely, and the cabin is very well equipped. Lots of nice things to do in the are if you can drag yourself away (which is hard!)- some really nice walks from the cabin itself, and Caeverlock wetland centre if you like birds. Would definately like to visit again someday, thank you!

  • Amazing little Lodge by the seaside all to yourself. Ilse was helpful from the start, giving us clear directions on how to get to the place and also very friend and hospitable. Food was left in the fridge for the morning and we felt at home through the duration of our stay. Would highly recommend for a getaway to relax.

  • An absolutely beautiful hidden gem. Perfect retreat for my husband and I. Would recommend

  • Absolute Perfection! Ilse and Bill have thought of everything. The lodge is immaculately kept and beautifully decorated. With literally everything you could possibly need while you are there including a continental breakfast and a bath robe! The location is just stunning, with wraparound views up and down the Solway. We didn't leave the lodge for the first 24 hours we were there simply becuase we were so enchanted by the stunning views. Bill and Ilse are both amazingly friendly and thoughtful Bill picked us up and dropped us back at the train station on departure. Such a wonderful wonderful place. We will definitely be back ASAP!

  • Definitely worth a visit with beautiful views and there's lots of places to walk and explore close by. A lovely lodge with everything you need. Fully recommend

Stunning beaches; Carrick 1 mile is perfect for water sports. This very rural hideaway is great for two families. A listed building with deer and an amazing variety of birds in the garden, wood burner & table tennis. Great cycling and walking. Newly added Wi Fi. Cream o' Galloway is a must!
A great place for two families to share.
Stunning coast for water sports, walking and. Cycling. Don't miss the fantastic Cream o' Galloway.
  • Knockbrex is in a beautiful situation. Although Grooms House is part of a complex of old buildings, meaning there are others around, it never felt overlooked or crowded and the atmosphere was peaceful and serene. You look out on a wonderful, lush, higgledy piggeldy garden with magnificent trees, teeming with birds, all singing their hearts out. The house is also higgledy-piggeldy with a quirky layout, but it worked beautifully for us - two old yins and 3 (just about) adult sons and their girlfriends. We were allowed to bring the hamster too, by our obliging host. The wood-burner is a cracker, easy to use and puts out a wonderful heat - it's a shame the temperatures were such that we only had the use of it twice. The kitchen had enough crocks and cutlery for an army and was well appointed. The ben linen was so luxurious (Irish linen perhaps?) and I'm now on a hunt to find the same for our beds at home! There are lots of quality books and games available, which we appreciated. We felt little need to go far for entertainment (the ping-pong table is a definite plus), but don't miss the beaches, which are magnificent and within easy walking distance. We enjoyed delicious locally caught hake & chips at Kirkcudbright 'Polar Bites', but watch the timings - closed on Mondays and only open to 8.30pm. All in all, it's been a wonderful holiday. Thank you!

  • Lovely house in amazing location. We got really lucky with amazing weather and the garden was beautiful. Short walk to Carrick beach which is one of my favourite places on earth. We had a wonderful few days, thank you.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Tim's house in Scotland. The home was well equipped with a fantastic kitchen for big family dinners. The bedrooms were clean and large. Bathrooms were also very nice. The location was nothing short of fantastic & a beach was 5 minutes from the property. I will surely be back & I highly recommend the property.

  • we enjoyed our vacations in a nice and quiet place

  • Great place, great quiet location. Loads of room and just a little bit quirky! So much to see in an unspoilt, often overlooked part of Scotland. Thank you

  • A beautiful home set in a scenic, countryside location. We were met by the owners and welcomed to the home with great tips for local amenities. We enjoyed a lovely, quiet weekend away from it all. The house was really spacious with a great family kitchen and cozy log burner in the lounge. Ideal for families with children. Would highly recommend!

  • We had an amazing holiday at Grooms house. We arrived in the dark , in private grounds, the location looked great . In the morning sunshine it looked even better, The rooms were well presented the house was warm It was massive as there were only 4 of us. The children 12 and 14 loved the grounds and the table tennis room!! the beach was a 5 min walk, and the road to the sandy beach so quiet the children could cycle to it safely on there own. We could only stay for 3 nights but I am sure we will be back, Tim's e mail explained everything perfectly and we met Cathie who helps look after it . She gave us lots of hints and tips on what to do . The kids and I went to the Laggan outdoor centre, 20 mins from the house, and did segway driving (£25 for an hour) well worth it . Thanks all involved !!!! Heather x

  • Large cottage full of rustic features and charm. The wood burner was fantastic and gave the place a heat boost, the central heating struggled to get the place toasty alone. The place is in the middle of nowhere with hardly any phone signal and no wifi, great if you want to drop off the grid and reconnect with something other than a device for a while. A lovely cottage with the picturesque Scottish coastline just on the doorstep. Great place to switch off and unwind.

  • Lovely little cottage in a great location, Susan and family were very welcoming and there was lots of local information in the cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed our mini break. Thank you!

  • A little place surrounded by farmland so good for those looking for isolation but also interested in interacting with the family of four who are very friendly hosts.

  • Lovely tiny cottage with a wood burner in a friendly village, virtually next door to the pub! Very easy access to the sea and the lakes, with it's own garden and helpful hosts next door. Great location.

  • Super destination for a short getaway ideally situated for many Lake District attractions. Safe and quiet village location. We stayed in the middle of winter during a 4 day storm and were totally cosy and relaxed. Log fire always a hit. Minutes away from Cockermouth meant easy access to shops. Definitely one for booking again and if you choose Rose Cottage you won't find a warmer welcome anywhere else.

  • A nice welcome in a cosy and clean cottage with some eggs; milk and cookies as a home gift. With also the fireplace ready to be lighted Susan and Paul were also very helpful, advicing us on places to visit.

  • Susan and her family made us feel very welcome, she even had a Ben 10 towel out for our son. The little fire in the lounge room is lovely and really adds to the country charm. The village is in a quiet rural setting and the local pub, Mason's Arms did excellent food. We would highly recommend Susan's house to other travellers looking for a friendly, relaxing country get away.

  • Great little cottage with lovely wood burning stove, which was particularly cosy as we were staying in the winter. The hosts were friendly and helpful and was a perfect place for a short break near the Lake District.

  • Our host, initially, was Paul Eastwood. He was friendly & offered to help us in any way he could. He was also very easy to converse with & we thoroughly enjoyed him. The historic Rose Cottage was a delight & our time there was relaxing & cosy (we Loved the little wood heater!)

Kirkland Cottage is completely self-contained and is attached to our main house in an enclosed, secluded and large garden. Although only two miles from Dumfries Town Centre it is in a quiet, rural location. There is ample parking beside the cottage and a lockable room for storage of bicycles and other leisure equipment. The cottage provides a great base from which to enjoy the many cultural and outdoor activities available in the immediate locality.
  • The place was nice and clean.

  • Beautiful cottage! Communication was great from Deborah and Robert. Deborah greeted us on arrival and was very friendly! The cottage had everything we needed, including toiletries which was a lovely touch! Dumfries is a short drive up the road! Would stay again!

  • Excellent in all respects. Welcoming hosts, good communication. Ideal location for breaking our long journey. Private, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Would be ideal for a longer break.

  • Fantastic place, lovely cottage, friendly host. We could only stay for one night, travelling through, but would love to come back again.

  • We had a lovely stay with our family at Kirkland Cottage. The setting is perfect with big gardens and set in a quiet area but also very close to Dumfries centre for shops etc. Deborah and Robert were very welcoming and the cottage is lovely and clean with plenty of room. There was everything we needed. We enjoyed listening to the CDs and there was even some songbooks to go with the piano. Our kids loved the gardens with the rabbits and even a golden pheasant visited. Dumfries is great for a holiday with all the museums, castles, wildlife and plenty for the children. There is so much to see. We stayed for 5 days but hope to come back and see some more.

  • Amazing cottage in a stunning location. We loved every minute of our stay and would highly recommend Deborah & Robert's place it was just perfect. Everything you could ever need is there for you.

  • Cosy house in the countryside without being too far from the main centre. Kitchen is very well equipped and the whole house is very clean. Water pressure is a little low in the main bathroom shower from what we were all used to, but there was never a lack of warm water thanks to the wonderful aga ❤️ overall a great stay had by all :) thank you Lesley :)

  • We really enjoyed our stay here for my fiance's 30th birthday celebrations. There was plenty of room for all 10 of us and we enjoyed playing games by the fire. Lots to do in the surrounding area. Everywhere was clean and tidy when we arrived and there were some lovely little touches to make us feel welcome. Thanks Lesley!

  • The Old School House provided a fantastic setting for a great Easter weekend with family. The house is spacious and has fantastic amenities. Lesley, the host, was so accommodating and made us feel right at home.

  • A perfect spot for a family getaway. We had an absolutely fantastic weekend and would absolutely plan on returning if we find ourselves in this part of Scotland again. The pictures do not do this place justice. Stunning lounge, beautiful kitchen and each bedroom is absolutely perfect. We had bookings for dinner in nearby towns, and actually cancelled them in order that we could spend more time in the house. Lesley introduced herself on arrival and was very helpful when we were trying to sort taxis. Highly recommend.

In our Grade ll listed property you will have your own living space, bed room with a double or twin bed and your private shower room. I can provide a single bed for a child up to 10 years (£15), a travel cod for a toddler or a baby's crib and highchair for an additional £10. You should let me know so we can discuss your requirements at the time of booking. We are in an area of outstanding national beauty-on the Solway coast and on the Hadrian's wall walking route.
In our B&B-you have your own living room and bathroom. Our house is situated west of Carlisle (North of England); overlooking the marsh across to Scotland. A great place to explore wildlife, walk the Hadrian's wall or visit Cities like Glasgow and Edinburgh.
In Burgh-by-Sands there is a pub: The Greyhound Inn, a post office and a church. Further pubs are in Monkhill and Glasson, I can recommend for eating ( they take orders till 8 pm ), then there are pubs in Port Carlisle and Bowness on Solway.
  • This is a truly great B n B experience. Great atmosphere and still very welcoming. Very spacious Raphaela is a great Host. and provided a lovely farmhouse breakfast. Its about 20 mins drive from Centre of Carlisle located on solway firth. You can look out the bedroom window and wave across to Scotland.

  • Very welcoming. Great place to stay. Magical setting - a very special location

  • I had a wonderful stay great food -organic and vegetarian for me I felt really welcomed and the accommodation is the best I have stayed in yet! The old stone farm atmosphere is there with modern interiors. The Hadrians wall walk was just right for me . Next time Im in Carlisle I will stay again. thank you. Diane Nance-Kivell

  • We stopped off at Raphaela's on route to Scotland and it was a very welcome break. The annex is spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated and the location is picturesque. We were made very welcome and our girls loved the chickens! There was a huge choice for breakfast which really set us up for our onward journey. We were traveling with our baby and Raphaela made things very easy with high chairs, cots etc. We would definitely stay again - thank you!

  • Raphaela's place was a wonderful part of our break. She and her husband were friendly and helpful, and made us feel welcome the moment we arrived. The rooms were perfect, and we spent an enjoyable evening relaxing in our own living space. We loved the comfy sofa with blankets, the iPhone speakers, and the organ(!) We liked that it felt so private. Our room was neat and clean and had a great view and the breakfast was superb. Everything was perfect, and we wished we had stayed more than one night! We will defiantly be back.

  • We had a lovely one night stay at Croft House. We felt very welcome & enjoyed Raphaela & Steves company. Everywhere is spotlessly clean & we found the superking bed to be very comfortable hence a good nights sleep. A delicious cooked breakfast followed by fresh fruit & yoghurt was provided. We'd love to stay again if we are back in this beautiful location.

  • We loved our stay at Croft House. Raphaela & Steve are super-friendly hosts and the accommodation is superb. The B&B is essentially an annex to the main house, with its own living room as well as a large bedroom and bathroom. Raphaela also has a separate building for self-catering guests. I looked at this and it, too, is beautiful. The breakfast was excellent and set us up well to continue cycling Hadrian's Cycleway (only a few hundred yards away). The location is very restful. There are views to Scotland from the bedroom and a beautiful garden with a pool under construction(!) The only possible note of caution for future guests is that the nearest pubs for food are a couple of miles away. It wasn't a problem for us because we took our bikes but walkers may have had more difficulties.

  • Everything about our stay was fabulous! Would recommend Croft House in a heartbeat. Great chats with Raphaela and Steven, hosts extraordinaire! A lovely, charming old house. Breakfast was delicious.

A beautiful home in Thornhill, just 5 minutes from Drumlanrig Castle and 13 miles from Dumfries, complete with a large TV System and outdoor space. This is a perfect place for a Couple to stay and visit the sights of Dumfries & Galloway.
  • Had a lovely stay here. The apartment was modern, clean, well-equipped and it has a great vibe to it. Thanks! P.S. My dog loved it too!

  • Great little self contained apartment for 2. Very comfortable, clean and lots of little extras when we arrived such as complimentary water in the fridge, clean towels and Netflix! Adjoining The Buccleuch & Queensberry Arms Hotel so convenient for queries, meals and a beer. Highly recommended.

  • This is top notch. Don't mess about - just get it booked. It ticks every box - easy to find, easy to arrange the key, super clean (really really clean), smart, spacious, good amenities (kettle/toaster/TV etc etc), nice toiletries laid on, very comfortable bed, quality sheets and bedding, quick wifi, outside space, baby and dog friendly, next to a very nice pub with very good food and good ales on tap - the list goes on. It's excellent value. Quick and efficient comms from the host. I can't fault it - I'll be booking this place again in the future.

  • Wonderful place to stay, great entertainment system, comfy bed & easy to check in, everything you could possible want from an Air bnb space......Arthur's place ticks all the boxes, if you are not eating at the hotel restaurant (and you absolutely should) then there is no great takeaway at night for food, make sure you bring provisions to cook or shop at the great wee Spar.... You won't be disappointed booking this lovely hideaway! Thanks Arthur! We will be back for a fifth visit soon :)

  • The home was lovely, really great location and service from the hotel. Check in and out was really easy and we had no issues whatsoever. The kitchen is under-equipped for self-catered accommodation but it wasn't unusable. Overall a great trip!

  • We have had a wonderful break at Arthur's house. It convenient for exploring the Galloway Coast and is the perfect place for two with a VERY comfortable bed. Kitchen and bathroom are very well appointed. We would love to come back!

  • We never met Arthur although bizarrely we were buying some wine in the deli/shop across from the hotel and whilst we were engrossed in choosing, we were aware of someone else in the shop, when we went to purchase our goods we mentioned we were staying in the cottage and apparantly we had just missed Arthur! Not too worry, everyone was super friendly and our purchases were taken back to the hotel, whilst we did some more shopping, we were then shown to the cottage and it was fabulous! Everything worked perfectly, it was super comfortable and private, perfect fluffy towels and a good supply of tea bags and coffee, great wifi, huge TV and a very comfy bed.....we had the perfect break there and we cannot wait to go back!

The Hideaway is a self catering log cabin in South West Scotland. Ideal for a short romantic break or a longer trip to discover more of what Scotland has to offer. It is situated near to the Galloway Forest, the U.K'S first dark sky park.
Unfortunately we do not accepts pets . There is no wifi in the cabin but you can pick up 3G outside the cabin . The hideaway is a cosy studio cabin . It is fully fitted with a kitchen , gas cooker, microwave, mini oven , kettle , toaster , undercounter fridge and separate freezer. You have all the cooking utensils , pots and pans for cooking as well. All linen and towels are provided . There is no cleaning service .
  • We had a lovely time at the Hideaway despite the dodgy weather. Nice and relaxing and a family of hares to watch every night from the patio window. Highly recommended.

  • Lovely little place for a remote night away, the cabin has no wifi and the nearest shop closes early so bear that in mind when you arrive

  • What a lovely little cabin. It's a mini home away from home. Couldn't believe how immaculate and spacious it was inside, very deceiving from the outside. The weather wasn't the greatest during our stay as we caught the tail end of hurricane Katia but you wouldn't really notice the wind and rain as the cabin is pretty solid and double glazed. I would definitely be back but more towards the spring / summer to appreciate the surrounding area.

  • We spent 2 nights here after our wedding at Comlongon Castle to relax and unwind, the cabin was perfect for this. We found the cabin to be spotless and extremely cosy. It was also kitted out with everything that we needed. The views are amazing from the garden and on a clear night the stars are spectacular. If you visit, the Clachan Inn in the local village does beautiful food, a 3 course meal for 2 with drinks was £65, so great value for money. The cabin is a great base to explore the Galloway Forest and surrounding area. Are only regret was that we were only there for the 2 nights. We can't wait to visit again. Thank you for an amazing, peaceful and relaxing stay. Andy and Shelly.

  • A lovely cabin in a beautiful location. Ideal for our relaxing week away trail running and walking. Our hosts were so welcoming and we felt we could approach them if we needed anything at all. We would highly recommend a stay here.

  • Wonderful cosy wee place, just perfect for a spot of seclusion. Charmaine was the perfect host, she even checked we were warm enough ok a particularly chilly night and offered us extra blankets and an extra heater. Cracking view of the night sky also. Highly recommend a stay.

  • We had a great few days

  • Spent 2 nights at the hideaway cabin and had an amazing time. Very private despite being on the grounds of the host. Cabin is well equipped and makes great use of all space. Cosy and perfect escape leading up to Christmas. The Clachan Inn serves amazing food close. Would definitely recommend the 15 min walk to the top of the hill opposite (as suggested by host), views of the surrounding area are breathtaking.

Sandyhills Bay is a 5-10 minute walk and is the start of the popular Colvend coastal walk to Rockliffe and the beautiful fishing village of Kippford. Anglers who stay at the 'Dragons Lodge' are free to use the Barend fishing lake which situated just across the road. There is a local shop at colvend open 7 day but not until late. Supermarkets can be found at Dumfries and Castle Douglas with Dalbeattie offering Co-op & Costcutter.
  • Dragon's Lodge was a home away from home with everything you would need for a family holiday. I use a wheelchair and found the lodge more than manageable (bar the kitchen as it was too small for my chair, not an issue if you don't mind others helping you!) Ann was a wonderful host; the lodge was cosy and very clean and tidy, any messages sent were promptly responded to and a shower seat, manual wheelchair and set of stairlift instructions were left in the lodge. It was made as easy as possible for me which is very much appreciated! I recommend the on site restaurant and bar who, with only a few days notice, prepared a vegan meal for me on two different occasions. Our highlight was definitely the Barend Badgers! They came right below our balcony and we fed them peanuts every evening. I would definitely return to Dragon's Lodge, it made for a perfect family holiday, and would definitely recommend.

  • A cosy wee cabin, spotlessly clean and the bathrooms in particularly were lovely. A great location for the stunning Sandyhill beach :) Great communication from Anne.

  • What a lovely lodge, it certainly felt like home from home and we were all disappointed to only be staying a couple of nights. we cant wait to go back for longer next time. The immediate area was very quiet and calming and the walks along the beach and cliffs stunning. The communication with Ann was very good. I have already recommended this lodge to some friends.

  • This was our first Christmas away from Australia & Ann decorated the house beautifully, even including table decor. This was such a sweet touch and we really appreciated it. It was so cosy and relaxing, we highly recommend booking. Thanks so much Ann for being a wonderful host!

  • Lovely warm cabin in a lovely part of the world. Would come again.

  • Lovely log cabin/lodge that is well appointed and has that cozy/warm feeling that welcomes you in from the moment you park up outside. Communication with Ann was excellent and we had a great time in The Dumfries area and used the Dragons Lodge as a base. Really cozy place that was fantastic for the 5 of us and we all loved it and would not hesitate to recommend to other guests - Lots of nice wee touches, eg Wi-Fi, Induction Hob, welcome basket with tea and coffee etc that made our stay more relaxing.

  • Nice house and location to stay.

  • A wonderful getaway, quiet resort with incredible log cabins in a great location near the coast but with civilisation not too far. Plenty of walks nearby (written up by Ann in an organised folder. It was equipped with everything we could have possibly needed, Ann really has thought of everything. As such we didn't need to contact Ann although she made herself easy to be.

  • It's a lovely place! Pictures do not do it justice--apartment is bright, spacious and very, very clean. There is a huge bathroom with a walk in shower and a soak tub. There is also a washer and a dryer (detergent was thoughtfully provided by hosts)--this was a big factor for us as we were travelling with our little one. The hosts are very accommodating, we had butter, bread, preserves, milk, organic eggs and OJ in the fridge, which we very much appreciated as we arrived in the evening. Importantly, this place is used only for vacation rentals so it doesn't feel that you are having an awkward stay with a distant relative, like so many other places on AirBnB. Overall-A++++, thank you Joanne!

  • Joanne and Simon are lovely warm people. They made us feel welcome and at ease. we even got complimentary champagne from Joanne when she learned it was our wedding anniversary. She also supplied some basic food in the fridge for us which was really great for us coming with a child. The apartment is simply gorgeous, decorated with taste. The bathroom and bedrooms are amazing. The area is very quiet and peaceful. I couldn't imagine a better place.

  • Really enjoyed our stay, the apartment was cosy, comfy, and nicely furnished. We had a warm welcome from Simon, and all our communications with Joanne were swift and helpful. We appreciated the food essentials (and a few treats!) that they provided. Apartment was well situated for some coastal exploring and we were given good directions by Joanne to the apartment. Recommended!

  • Had a lovely quiet weekend away. Small and cosy apartment, well equipped with everything you might need. Short walk from great restaurant/bar and great location for visiting Robert Burns museum where we spent much of Saturday. Lovely longer walk into town along river and seaside and v close to bus stop if prefer not to walk. Joanne was a super host and v quick to respond if we needed anything. Would definitely recommend!

  • We had a lovely stay at Joanne's apartment. It is an easy drive into Ayr where there is plenty of car parking. The apartment itself is beautiful and is really spacious and light. Joanne and Simon are very welcoming hosts and would definitely recommend!

  • Joanne and Simon were very accommodating and really such lovely people! Highly recommend.

  • Joanne's place is lovely. It's like a home from home! I would describe it as a quiet, cozy and delightful apartment with everything you need. It's a really nice part of Ayr and the town center is not far. In addition there are plenty of of places to go for dinner and some even within walking distance. Highly recommended!!

  • We really enjoyed our stay here! It was really comfortable, clean and lovely. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet Joanna and Simon, but the communication was really good. The apartment has everything you need we missed nothing. We highly recommend it!

Exceptionally beautiful and tranquil area, yards from the sea, warmed by the gulf stream. Our modern 2 bed chalet is comfortable, (WI-FI) quiet and perfect for a relaxing holiday. The award winning Steam Packet Hotel on the harbour is 5 minutes walk. Fully equipped kitchen: cooker, oven, microwave, fridge freezer, iron etc. Travel cot and high chair for infants. Private garden with furniture. Superb area for those with an interest in walking, sailing, fishing, nature, locally or by car.
The chalet is bright and airy, tucked away in the top right hand corner (as you enter Laigh Isle). Private as nobody really walks past our window other than to access the chalet. Private garden (NOT FENCED IN!!) area also, surrounding the chalet with table and chairs outside for the Meditteranean, Gulf stream aided, red hot weather (ok a slight exaggeration - we have Spanish apartments also you see). I double bedroom with a king size bed and built in robes. The 2nd bedroom is small, with 2 bunks, so we prefer to describe the chalet as best suited to couples or those with 2 young kids, though 4 adults have stayed. Bathroom was recently modernised with shower over bath. CAUTION!!!!!! The HOT water gets VERY HOT if you leave it on too long. 2 heater thermostats: 1 in the living room, serving this area, and no.2 in the main bedroom, controlling the 2 bedrooms. The bathroom has a new heater. Just pull the cord a minute or 2 before you go in on a cold morning. Linen and towels are provided.
Like our other places in Calpe, Spain, the Isle of Whithorn is a very special place, to where visitors ALWAYS return. Beauty, peace and quiet and great people. We visit more often in winter than summer, when it is even more peaceful. 5 minutes walk to The Steam Packet Hotel, Britain`s best pub!! St Ninian`s Cave, Burrow Head cliffs, the cliff walk from Laigh Isle to Port Yerrock and on to Garlieston. Boat trips, nature trips, fishing, walking or lazing. Loads to do.
  • Perfect amount of luxury with function. Great bed, everything you need in the kitchen. Lovely bath. Really great chalet for a chill out weekend. We loved the local pub, plus exploring Wigtown and walking in the area. An absolute gem of a place!

  • 1st class! Spotlessly clean and so very well equipped, John had thought of everything we could have needed. This chalet was a wee home from home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

  • Small chalet with all facilities needed in a beautiful location. Only drawback is limited cellnet connectivity.

  • A lovely clean place to stay, exactly as described, located close to the Steam Packet Inn and all local amenities.

  • The chalet was beautiful, spotless and had all the amenities one may need. The host was there to greet us and was most helpful. The area around the chalet was lovely, and there were wonderful walks and drives around this area. It was lovely to sit In the sun on the patio area and enjoy the peace. Would highly recommend both the host and the property.

  • Accommodation suited our needs, well equipt, although we didn't cook. Early check in was greatly appreciated. Quick responses to our questions on booking

  • Nice quiet place, good if you would like to space out and relax. Lots of places for walking but thats about it.

  • Cozy, comfortable, very clean, and worked well for 3 Adults and dogs. Loads of useful information and maps provided. Lovely area for exploring, would definitely like to visit again.

An Tigh Geal (The White House) is situated in a row of six cottages right on the shore, with steps down to a pebble beach which has plenty of rock-pools to explore. Dunure is a charming village with stunning views across the Firth of Clyde. Full Scottish breakfast served.
The cottage is a modern refurbishment of a traditional fisherman's dwelling, stone built and with stone feature walls in a large open-plan kitchen and living area. The guest room is to the rear of the house, overlooking the rear patio area. Adjacent to your bedroom you will have sole use of a private bathroom - WC, bath and shower. We supply towels, bathrobes, shampoo, shower gel, hairdryer - and there is an electric shaver point in the bathroom. Guests have the use of a sheltered rear patio with seating and tables , and a small patio with seating and table at the front of the house right on the shore.
Situated 7 miles south of Ayr, Dunure is a charming little village on the Firth of Clyde, with stunning views across to Ailsa Craig, Northern Ireland, the Mull of Kintyre, the Isle of Arran, Bute, Cumbrae and the Ayrshire coast. The village has the Harbour View cafe, The Dunure Inn (pub and restaurant), and there is a good selection of restaurants nearby in Ayr, Maidens, Minishant, Turnberry and other surrounding villages. We are well situated for Ayrshire's golf courses, with Turnberry, Royal Troon, Western Gailes, Prestwick and many other private and municipal courses within easy driving distance. There are riding stables nearby, and a great selection of hill and coastal walks. Nearby, Alloway is at the heart of Burns Country, with Robert Burns' birthplace cottage museum, the Burns Heritage Centre, Alloway auld kirk, and the Brig O' Doon. On the Ayrshire Coastal Path, Dunure is a natural stopover for walkers; attractions including the historic castle, harbour and stone labyrinth. The famous Electric Brae is on the road to Culzean Castle, 7 miles to the south, and towards Ayr there is the Heads of Ayr Farm Park, and Belleisle and Rozelle country parks. A taxi to Culzean costs about £17, but you can walk along the coast, or if we are free we will be happy to give you a lift by car. By car it's about 50-60 minutes to the Dark Sky observatory at Craigengillan Lodge, near Dalmellington.
  • What better way to start my 10 day trip around Scotland. William and Catherine are wonderful hosts. They accommodated me at the last minute when they also had plans but arranged for William to meet me on arrival and show me around the house. I had a lovely dinner at the Dunure Inn, walking distance from the house. The views on a clear day would be amazing, because they are pretty good on a cloudy day. I would recommend this Air B&B to any one. I really hope I can return one day in the summer.

  • Catherine and Bill have been great hosts and made us feel welcome and at home. Breakfast with them was delightful. Their house is amazingly located with a breathtaking view of the seaside. I highly recommend their place for anyone looking to explore the surroundings or just to relax.

  • Catherine was the most gracious host and made sure that we enjoyed our time in the area. When we arrived, she spent time explaining the accommodations and the area. We greatly appreciated the time she spent with us along with the advice and history of the area she provided. She prepared a great traditional Scottish breakfast that we thoroughly enjoyed. The B&B is right on the coast so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the view, saw a spectacular sunset along with enjoying the peaceful sound of the water. There are remains of the Dunure Castle within a 5 minute walk from the B&B and plenty of shoreline to explore. The B&B is very well decorated and offers a great relaxing, quiet place to stay. We would highly recommend this extremely nice, relaxing environment and gracious host as a place to stay.

  • This is one of the best Airbnb experiences we've had. Catherine have a beautiful, immaculate home in a stunning location. They are perfect hosts. She has thought of every amenity. We were ready to leave early when we realized she had made us s delicious full breakfast with fresh fruit. I would love to visit again and stay longer. The inn next door has s pub and we had a delicious meal of soup, salad and onion rings.

  • Brilliant location by the sea. Lovely pub with great food 50 yards away. Superb bathroom, decor and facilities. All the rest was wonderful too!

  • This is a beautiful place to stay. It's right on the seafront with amazing views of Arran and Dunure Castle. The cottage is lovely decorated and quite spacious, the bathroom is huge, everything is very clean and tidy and there's a pub with great food close by. Catherine was very friendly and welcoming, breakfast was great. This is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Also perfectly located for some nice walks along the coast. Highly recommend!!

  • Catherine and William are wonderful hosts - could not have asked for better hosts. They made us feel welcome the minute we stepped through their front door. Meticulous attention to detail. Made reservation for us at the local inn. Explained some local history. Breakfast options were superb! Great location...peaceful and quiet. Lovely couple: friendly and caring of us as their guests. Thought of everything. HIGHLY recommend to others.

  • This is a fantastic house in a fantastic location, right next to the sea. It is dramatic and beautiful as the photo suggests. Catherine and Bill were fabulous hosts. They gave us a great welcome, a cup of tea on arrival and the breakfasts are amazing. We felt right at home from the minute we arrived because Catherine and Bill are so relaxed, easy-going and great to chat to. Really nice, comfortable, extremely clean room and own bathroom right next door. Thoroughly recommend for airbnb

  • Very good stay, very clean house, Arnold is a perfect host! And his home made raspberry jam is delicious ;)

  • Our stay was excellent. We found everything as advertised expect for an extremely difficult front door.

  • Very comfortable, warm and spacious room, good location and Arnold was a welcoming host.

  • The house was clean, tidy & very comfortable to stay in....excellent location in Ayr Arnold was also a great host

  • The Space: The room was clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was wonderful and clean. The garden was beautiful! The neighborhood quiet and safe, but only a short drive from the city center and beach. Arnold offered full use of his home, including the kitchen and fridge and food. For breakfast he left out yummy breads and fresh eggs for us to cook and all the things for tea and coffee. Also the wifi worked perfectly! The Host: Arnold is friendly and respectful. He was generous with his whole home. The whole experience was wonderful because he is so thoughtful. From food and comfort, to maps and sites to see-- he had it ready!

  • Stayed in Arnold's house so that we could attend a wedding in Brig o Doon hotel.

  • Our stay at Arnold's house was ideal as it was close to Brig o Doon hotel where we were attending a function. The accommodation was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Arnolds' instructions for check-in worked well in his absence and we would have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone looking for some time out in Burn's country.

  • Arnold's place in Ayr was very tidy and comfortable. I wish I could have spent more time there. He was prepared with maps of the area and tips for local food and supplies. It was exactly what I needed. He even picked me up from the station. I will certainly contact Arnold next time I'm in the Maybole/Ayrshire/Prestwick area.
