“The Zugliget Chairlift (Libegő) is a fun, alternative mode of transport in the Buda hills. Transporting passengers between Zugliget and the road leading up to the Erzsébet Lookout Tower, the Chairlift takes you calmly up the side of János Hill in about 15 minutes – while providing panoramic views of the Buda surroundings. The Chairlift is operated by the city transport company BKK, a single ticket costing 1,000 HUF, return 1,400. It can be reached by taking bus 291 from Nyugati station to its final stop. Whether for a special date or just a relaxed outing in Buda – a trip on the Chairlift is a unique experience. And new features planned for 2019-20 should make the journey a bit more special in future.”

“Great for hardcore cave explorers! Must have a tour guide bc it isnt a cave where you just walk in. In fact, not just walking! Your clothes will get pretty much toast (very dirty). Some parts of the cave are unexplored and lufetime experience but super tight and scary. Involves eventual sliding crawling rappling ladders and cant be done alone. ”

Tip: We recommend to try a tasty Magyar lángos here, as well as the frosty treats of Fragola in the summer.”

“The Szemlő-hegyi Cave is Budapest's underground flower garden. The most beautiful and most typical parts of the cave can be observed during the guided tours on the 300 metre long tourist path. You can see walls covered with thick layers of mineral deposits that are unique in Europe: splendent, white crystals of gypsum, popcorn formations and calcite rafts. The comfortable and safe pavements and the modern electric lighting make the tour even more enjoyable. Thanks to the clean, dust and allergen-free air of the cave respiratory diseases have been successfully cured here. OPEN: every day except for Tuesday from 10am to 4pm.”

“Perched atop the highest apex of Budapest – János Hill, rising 527 meters above sea level – the Elizabeth Lookout Tower is a delightful reward for anyone who hikes to this lofty site, even if they receive a considerable boost by riding the Zugliget Chairlift or Children’s Railway most of the way up. ”

“The Cogwheel Railway (Fogaskerekű) is among the more unique public transportation options in Budapest. The line first opened in 1874, so its red carriages are a somewhat nostalgic sight amongst the Buda scenery. It runs as tramline 60 from Városmajor Park up to Széchenyi Hill, through the Svábhegy area. You will need an ordinary single ticket or transport pass to ride the Cogwheel Railway, and it provides easy access to popular attractions such as Normafa or the Children’s Railway – or you can simply just sit back and enjoy its beautiful views of the Buda Hills!”

“The Labyrinth beneath Budapest’s Castle Hill is where Vlad Tepes was held captive and tortured for 14 years, starting in 1463. We remember him now as Vlad the Impaler, better known as “Count Dracula” (though the tale is only fiction). ”
