TO SEE ALL MY LISTINGS, CLICK ON MY PHOTO ICON TO GO TO MY PROFILE PAGE. This train is located on the historic Golden Chain Highway, now called Highway 49 named after the 49ers who came seeking their fortune. Just a short drive to Yosemite National Park and nestled in the foothills of a California gold rush town, the Caboose is a part of the Vacation Station, a decommissioned train that has been lovingly converted into a vacation rental for you and your loved ones to enjoy.
The Caboose is a studio style space with a queen size bed, a kitchen, the original cupola (a raised seating area), a full bathroom with a back door and a Roku Smart TV. We have provided everything you will need to live, cook and play while you stay.
Coulterville is a small gold rush town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, home to Yosemite National Park. Yosemite Valley is approximately 55 miles away, with the entrance gate on Hwy 120 being about 30 miles away. The town has a cafe with a general store, various shops, a post office and a park with a public swimming pool (open during summer only from 1-5pm, with a fee of $2 per person), a large grass area, tables and a playground.
  • The place was great, very unique and comfortable, a great way to stay a few days just outside Yosemite! The caboose is uniquely decorated and the small details make it very homey and cozy. Great experience overall.

    Thibaut2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • The vacation station is a real gem! It's well-maintained, clean and decorated adorably. It was a big bonus to have a kitchen with all the pots and pans we needed and even some snacks provided. We enjoyed being off the beaten path but near major highways. It was easy to come and go and the perfect spot to stay for a trip to Yosemite!

    Jenna2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • What can I say? This place was such a great experience to have spent our nights in. We loved every detail this small train caboose had to offer. Very cozy with such a great amount of space . Everything was cleaned and well organized, this vacation station is a place I definitely recommend to anyone that is looking for a quick getaway.

    Ariel2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The reaction my husband had when he realized he was going to be staying in the caboose was priceless. This is a place to stay where you will make memories. Family memories. Childhood memories. Travel memories. The caboose was exactly as pictured. It is surreal that you are actually eating and sleeping in a real train. Nealy and the owner have thought of everything. We cooked two meals and were able to store all our travel provisions. I was concerned that the train wound not be warm enough in the dead of winter but the split system heating system is quiet and effective, but for a quick chill in the bathroom in the morning. We were quite cozy in the comfortable queen bed, and celebrated our success of finding such a unique experience in the elevated cupola space. We have already recommended to members of our family that they bring their grandchildren for a trip to the Vacation Station to experience the glory days of life on the rails. P.s. Be sure to tour the museum next door, especially the outside, to experience Coulterville in the early days. Wish I could have scheduled our trip for their Heritage Rose festival in May, their 4th of July parade, or their Coyote Festival in late Sept. It really is a quaint mining town with a memorable drive on Hwy 49.

  • Very fun place to stay, close enough to Yosemite, and great food at the nearby cafe. Would stay here again!

    Eric2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Staying the night inside a freight car was such an unique experience and the place itself was so beautiful and the premise quiet and private. Would recommend to anyone visiting the Yosemite and are looking for a more intimate and memorable stay.

  • Cute place that is close Yosemite National Park. It was great and Nealy was a great host!

    Wyatt2019-12-26T00:00:00Z

  • Larry and Clen are incredible host, we enjoy talking with them and had a great time in here.

    Daniel2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Larry's place is a great place to stay when you want to visit Yosemite National Park. It's a 90 minute drive to the Visitor center in Yosemite Valley. We booked the cabin, but we got an upgrade to a bigger accommodation with kitchen and bathroom. We even got heated blankets which were perfect after a long day at the park. We want to thank Larry again and would come back again.

    Rebecca2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in the cabin was great. Immediately upon arriving we were greated by his wife who made us feel right at home. Larry provided detailed directions how to get there. There was a heater plus they provided electric blankets, so we were warm.

  • This place is great! A wonderful stop if you are traveling to Yosemite. The people are very kind and thoughtful!

    Michelle2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay when you are going to Yosemite. It is clean and cosy, accompanied by an outstanding hospitality and thoughtful touches, such as a heated blanket. Everybody was also very friendly and Larry's got a good sense of humor. I would recommend the place! Oh, and there is also very tasty and clean drinking water there, do not miss out on that. :)

    Julia2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Larry's place is a great place to stay when visiting Yosemite. It is fairly close to highway 120, and the route to Yosemite has great views all the way. Although we had booked the cabin, we received a upgrade and got to stay in the main inn instead. The place was cozy and inviting, with all the amenities one could imagine. The breakfast options were plentiful , and provided a good start to the day. We highly recommend staying at this place!

    Preethi2019-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is a must for those wanting to escape the busyness of life. While the cabin stay is equipped with a bed, refrigerator, lights, and heat, the shower and toilet are inside the main building. The simplicity of the cabin made my trip to Yosemite perfect. The stars and quiet wilderness around are well worth it. The hosts are incredibly kind and knowledgeable of the area. I am quite grateful for my stay at their place.

Imagine your own tent set up in this lovely site. Seasonal & primitive on a 27 acre lot, 27 miles from Yosemite Park on Big Oak Flat north entrance gate, hwy 120. Brushes, fruit trees, & young vineyards provide privacy. Hiking trails also available. We are in the mountains w/ 3, 500 ft. elevation, rural town yet 10 minutes drive from market/deli, gas & diner but close early than expected. Breakfast not included, porta potty and running water is available. Bring your own tent or inquire.
This tent site is located at the end of a private driveway Off the main road in a quiet neighborhood right near by the creek, surrounded w/ trees & wildlife like squirrels, birds, deer.
  • Larry's family is amazing. We had such an incredible experience. The tent might be too cold for some seasons, so talk to Larry before.

    Sofía2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my wife booked a tent for one night and we were amazed to see their value offered for the price. There was electric sockets in the tent, mattress, blankets and pillows which we didn't expect. We didn't have to use any camping gears that we brought. There was everything. The bathroom was super clean. I was also mind blown by seeing their breakfast menu. They had everything starting from pancakes, waffles, croissants to boiled eggs, nuts, coffee, juice, cereals and many more. Overall it was a gret stay that turbo out way above our expectations. Would highly recommend this place.

    Soumava2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • It was a wonderful experience in nature. I was healed by the voices of the animals. This time I would like to spend a few days on this site with my friends. Thank you.

    Toshiyuki2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the tent for two nights and we really enjoyed our stay. The location to the Yosemite Park is pretty good. It took less than 1.5 hours to get to The Valley. We shared the bathroom with the other guest, so we sometimes had to wait for some time, but the bathroom was really clean. We also had breakfast there and didn’t miss anything. The check-in was uncomplicated and we really enjoyed chatting with the hosts. So all in all, this place is a perfect alternative to the common camping locations (especially since you have a bathroom it is even more comfortable)

    Sophia2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice and kind hosts, I would definitely recommend!

    Anna2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing! My boyfriend and I reserved a campsite and planned on using our own tent but due to our late arrival they let us use one that was already set up! It was a beautiful spot with a river that we fished on. The water kettle and other amenities they had really came to use for us and there's a nice deck area for us to eat breakfast and have our coffee that overlooks the campsite. They were very friendly and gave us great tips for places to go. We loved our stay here and reccomend it to everyone and would come back again!

    Courtney2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • It is a very warm place and delicious food

    Agostina2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic weekend over there. Their tent was already set up on our site. We didn't have to set up our own tent and clean it out! The host generously offered us to use a shower in their own B&B next to the tent site. It's a huge plus after coming back from a sweaty hike from Yosemite. :)

Where is the cottage? 4 miles off Highway 132— the John Muir Historic Route—in the Mother Lode Gold country above the historic gold rush town of Coulterville on Highway 49. 26 miles from the north entrance to Yosemite on Highway 120. The cottage: 1 bedroom, sleeping area with 2 beds, and 2 hideaway couches, 1 bath. Kitchen with small refrigerator, gas range, desktop electric oven, microwave oven, cookware, dishes, etc Large deck The cottage sits on a 10 acre parcel of Sugar Pine, Ponderosa, and Black Walnut trees at the elevation of 3500 feet on a 4 acre pond. Fishing, swimming and canoeing on the pond will add to your vacation experience here while you are enjoying your time in Yosemite. Many country roads and trails which loop up to a ridge and around provide exercise and bike riding challenges close by.
  • We loved the rustic charm of this little cabin and the surrounding beauty of nature. As soon as we pulled up, we got a warm greeting from Marilyn's dog, Flicka, who became a dear companion whenever we went for a walk. The scenery is spectacular and it was a great stopping place to visit Yosemite. Beware that the WiFi connection is a bit iffy and there is no TV, but it was nice to be off the grid a bit. The bed was comfortable, though a bit on the firm side and the kitchen was easy to cook in. The refrigerator is small, so don't bring a lot of perishables. We didn't take the time to burn any wood in the stove, but the heater works well to warm the whole place. All in all, it was a very pleasant stay and hope to come up again in the future.

    Marti2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We went here for our honeymoon & loved every moment of it! We felt so peaceful and detached from the hustle and bustle of life. We really fell in love with exploring this little Wild West town & making fires. Also fell in love with the dog Flika on the property, such a sweetie. 10/10 would stay here again.

    Anna2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful house amongst the quiet woods. There is a pond next to the house and a cute dog that keeps visiting you. 10/10 would recommend staying here.

    Ruturaj2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • A week away from everyday hustle Marilyn's cottage was exactly what I needed: a comfortable, warm escape nestled in the foothills of the Sierras. Firewood for the stove is plentiful and the water pressure is amazing. The location is reasonable drive from local adventure/cultural attractions (I took a day trip into Yosemite) and isolated enough for those seeking solitude.

    Erich2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Marilyn's place is fantastic. There are instructions for everything in the house which made it all very easy; including the wood fire stove. Her border collie made us feel so welcome, and we'd gladly stay here again.

    Jeff2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot to stay if you're planning to adventure in Yosemite! The property is beautiful and the cottage is very cozy.

  • We had a great time visiting Marylin place. The fall colors were magnificent, the sky beautiful and everything was so quiet !!! It was located centrally enough that we could easily do day trips to visit Yosemite valley, Hetch Hetchy reservoir and also Stanislaus forest.

Beautiful 28 ft RV trailer, set on 30 acres a privite woodsy space . We are about 25 miles from the entrance to Yosemite. Lots of hiking. biking or just relaxing.
We have a little store here for items like bread, beer and butter. There is a larger store in Groveland which is not to far 12 miles. A yummy bbq place just opened up walking distance. Fun little off the beaten path local places you can find and explore. Lots of history in this area!
  • Very clean and comfortable, very friendly hosts. Loved the space and area. So peaceful and relaxing. Woukd highly recommend. Will definitely stay here again.

  • Truly a 5-star experience. The rental was immersed in the woods which is not a view you get out of any hotel window! The RV has all the necessary amenities plus some. The hospitality was next to none. Diane and Rob were always available and took great care of my dog while I visited Yosemite. Even gave us fresh coffee and breakfast snacks in the morning. Will definitely be back and have already told all my friends. Highly recommended experience! On a side note, try 9 Diamonds BBQ at the end of the driveway. Best I’ve ever had, and I used to live off of Texas BBQ!

    Lee2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place is charming and full of whimsy--the perfect location to just get away or a great landing pad for Yosemite day trips. Cute, clean and has all the amenities you need. Highly recommended!

    Kristin2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed here with our 4 kids. Plenty of room, clean and exactly as described. Kids loved the boxcar. Host is super helpful. Coulterville is a cute little town with friendly people. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

    Jennifer2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • For fans of The Boxcar Children book series, this is the ultimate stay! We spent an idyllic couple days at the boxcar with our 2 kids during Thanksgiving week. It's VERY comfortably furnished with A/C and heating (we were snug and cozy during the sudden snowstorm) and high quality blankets and bedding. We loved reading inside in the evenings and exploring the charming little town of Coulterville during the day. Be sure to visit the excellent Coulterville Cafe & General Store, which is literally a 5 min walk away, and the history museum right next door! Groveland, where we charged our car, is just 20 min away and Yosemite Valley was about an hour and 10 min drive. We highly recommend this airbnb!

    Bonnie2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay and good size for a couple or even a couple kiddos!

    Danielle2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Nealy is a great host. She is super attentive and quick to respond to any needs or questions. The vacation station was a fun experience because of the style. Probably more fun of you have little ones interested in locomotives. The place itself has all the basic needs plus a little more to make your stay comfortable. Pillows are quite soft though so if your a bring your own pillow type of person like me, make sure you don't forget it!

Greeley Hill is located at 3,300ft in the mountains near Yosemite National Park surrounded by pine trees, lakes, rivers, and wild life. Greeley Hill is a unique rural town with meadows and pine/cedar/oak forest. There are many trails in the forest that are adjacent to private land. Our community is very friendly and helpful, willing to share about the area. We are located on HWY 132 on historic John Muir Trail, the road he took to Yosemite. Just 7 miles down the road, Coulterville is home to the John Muir Geotourism Center, Northern Mariposa County Historical Center, and the famous Claim Jumpers Re-enactors' shootout on Saturday's throughout the summer.

    Martin2019-08-12T00:00:00Z

  • Wonderful spot to camp during the busy seasons in the Sierras! Plenty of room for our group to spread out, and it was nice to have showers/toilets/sinks while camping. Mac was quite hospitable, as well - he set up a large communal bonfire with s'mores for everyone to enjoy! Would certainly book again.

    Tom2019-07-08T00:00:00Z

  • Thanks! It was a great place for our 5 yr olds and toddler to play around in- they were so interested in all the little spaces and details. We ended up not venturing out as much as we had planned because the kids were so easily entertained at the vacation station! Walking around and visiting the town was also more entertaining that expected! And It was an east drive into Yosemite for some play in the snow! We will very likely return!

  • This place is awesome! Would definitely stay here again.

  • This cute train was so fun for us to stay in. The Boxcar had a separate bedroom with a queen bed, a kitchen, a living room with a pull out couch and bunk beds. It was perfect for our family of four. Our 3 year old had a lot of fun with the train theme and all the age appropriate books and puzzles. We had a great time and would definitely book again.

    Jess And Chris2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Nealy's train is a rare experience. My friends and I had so much fun! There are all basic amenities in this quaint space and the decor is so well-thought and goes with the train theme. We arrived after sunset and the train looked so pretty with all the Christmas lighting. As the Boxcar is quite big, we all ended up cooking pasta (which we bought from the grocery store across the street) and sleeping in the Boxcar. There were a lot of games and kids books, which we didn't use but would be great for any kids staying in. The cupola in caboose was unique and we just hung out there. We were there for just a night and wished we could stay for a longer time, but despite that we thoroughly enjoyed it. The next morning we were having breakfast in the grocery store when Nealy dropped by and was very warm and friendly with us. We also checked out the nearby museum, which completed the feels of the time during Gold Rush.

    Moumita2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic space in a great place with a wonderful Nealy who takes care of everything! We will be back with family & friends!!!

  • This place was amazing and super clean! I’m gonna recommend this to everyone 👍🏽

    Gustavo2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very cool unique stay. Pictures were accurate. We booked the whole lot and it gave us great privacy. Self check-in was convenient.

    Morgan2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Coulterville has a special energy and this listing puts you right in the center of California history. Nealy has done a great amount of work to ensure a comfortable stay while re-living that history. I could not reccomend this listing more as it is a stay you will never forget.. I reccomend making a little time to spend exporing the old gold mining town and meeting some of the residents..

Our 120 acre ranch is 35 miles from Yosemite Park and in the middle of the southern Sierra Gold country. Our 18 ft. diameter tent is set on the edge of our living space at 3300 ft.We provide sleeping bags, pillows and camp chairs if you don't have your own. There is a fire pit and a propane grill available. Good water from a hose at the camp site and a solar shower and porta pottie 100 yards away. So try a little camping if you are headed to the Park and enjoy the starry nights on our hill.
Since we are very rural it gets very dark and there are no streets lights. So it is best to arrive in day light. Also good to wear shoes that cover your feet. This is good camping but not glamping.
Well this is the outback. It is quiet . We don't see any neighbors. We have three friendly guard dogs who work the night shift and keep the wild critters away. You may hear them at night. There is a seasonal creek that borders the back of our property and we have been known to pan for gold there .The natives who first lived here left some grinding rocks here.
  • We loved staying at Carol’s tipi. The surroundings are beautiful and we loved that it was secluded and quiet. Exactly what we were looking for! Carol is such a nice and friendly person! Our only regret was we couldn’t stay longer. Josef and Petra.

    Petra2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • To stay in Carols tipi was for me and my boyfriend a great experience. It is a quite place in the middle of the nature. We were sitting in the evening and enjoyed the moon. There is everything what a human being needs: drinkable water, sleeping place, toilet and a shower. I guess it is a great place for a BBQ. We arrived to late to try it out. If we are back in this area we would book Carols tipi again.

    Laura2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Carol’s place is very nice, clean the bathroom and shower is clean and perfect. She gave us tips about Yosemite. Definitely would stay again!

    Kristina2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Carol’s Tipi was an experience to be shared. Lovely host who has all the information you could need about the area, and stories of her own to share. The tipi was luxurious on a plot overlooking the sierras. Nothing was missing from making a perfect getaway. Stay up to enjoy the stars if you are lucky enough to stay here.

    Reid2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Carol’s place is definitely off-grid but worth it for the experience. She warmly welcomed us and provided us with all the basic tools to make a wholesome dinner. Everything was provided despite the camping setup — soap, shampoo, toilet paper, towels, blankets etc. The sunset and stars were beautiful to see from above. Will definitely return when I can the chance to explore Yosemite area again.

    Uli2019-08-29T00:00:00Z

Yosemite WestLake Campground and RV Park has 24 full-hookup RV sites plus Cabins and Tent spaces. We are conveniently located 24 miles from Yosemite National Park. This is a full-hookup camping spot, only (RV or tent not included). Must bring all camping equipment.
30 Amp RV electric plug, water and sewer connection at each site.
  • Wonderful place! We tent camped with our two dogs under Sequoia trees. Had a nice fire pit and a picnic table. Very inviting. Lots of birds and an overall beautiful area. Would stay again for sure!

    Jessi2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a nice, safe, hospitable park for an RV. Just note that it is a 35 minute drive to Yosemite Park, which means an hour ten drive to Yosemite Village, but it's a very easy and beautiful drive. If you are spending a few days at Yosemite, there are RV parks a bit closer and even some RV spaces in Yosemite park, but they are expensive and seem to be heavily booked. The rest rooms and showers are old, but cared for and very clean.

    David2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at the campfire eating s’mores. It is a nice place and tidy place.

  • If you like nature and nice people this is a place for you!! We saw many deers just passing by our RV day by day! Great place to stay with your RV or tent. Really nice spot! Mac is a wonderful host and local area expert. He told us where to go and what places we should skip. He is a very helpful guy. It Was so great that we even extended our stay

    Paweł2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Very pleasent place with nice facilities! The bathrooms and showers were very clean and comfy. Mac is very nice and responsive through the chat. Try not to arrive at night as the road is a bit tricky and there is not a gps signal in the overall area of yosemite.

    Ran2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Got a note from Mac telling me to pick up any of the available spots. Had no issues with the hookups, and everything was self service and worked great. Didn't need to see anyone upon arrival of checkout, just the way I like it. Thank you!

    Nir2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy little Campground. Perfect for a short stay in the nature.

    Theres2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Mac's RV park was absolutely perfect for what we wanted: a clean, spacious, safe place to park our RV in a great location to Yosemite. All the hookups worked well, we enjoyed having our own bbq, the showers and toilets were clean and Mac was great at messaging us, very easy going regarding our flexible check in time, and very friendly and welcoming. Thoroughly recommend!

  • Our group of 5 had a fantastic time staying here for our trip to Yosemite. The location is about as good as you can get for a reasonable price, and staying in a cabin with a heater and electricity provided a much more comfortable experience than camping outside, especially since we arrived fairly late into the night. The access to running water / bathrooms was also much appreciated. We would absolutely stay here again!

    Rajiv2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is perfect for a group stay. It accommodates 6-8 people it has a microwave, coffeemaker, toaster and mini fridge, Also a space Heather was provided. The beds are super comfy but keep in mind that it’s a camping cabin, and you do have to take all bedding with you. The bathroom and shower are located in a detached building very close by and the showers are very warm. We had a very comfortable stay. It’s about 1 hour drive to the park entrance depending on the wether and road conditions.

Nestled in the pines this cozy home will give you relaxation while watching birds, deer and other wild life. Situated 25 miles from Yosemite National Park.
I thought the property's original cottage was charming, and wanted to save all. Now, however, you can enjoy the beautiful location in the woods, plus the modern furniture, hot water, A/C and heat.
We are a part of a small community of Greeley Hill that boasts 2 gas stations, a market and a hardware store, library and restaurant.
  • The place is charming and the surrounding woods are AMAZING for hiking/walking. Highly recommended!

  • This was such a great get away and an amazing location not too far from Yosemite Valley. I came for a solo Thanksgiving trip and it was absolutely rejuvenating. Truly was peaceful amongst the pines :) Hieu and Carol are thoughtful and quick in response and have great local tips. Thank you for making this trip so memorable!

  • If you are looking for a perfect Yosemite getaway without a bite on your pocket and not compromising on comfort this is the place for you. It's a 40 min drive away from Big Flat Yosemite entrance and is easy to locate.Peaceful, clean and comfortable and more than that scenic rural setting. Note - There is no cell phone reception but the hosts do provide internet and that solves for routing and immediate needs and there is a land phone as well.

    Guruvayurappan2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place. Did not meet host but they had everything prepared and to a high standard with little extras like Yosemite info, teas coffee, sauces in fridge, ice in freezer. Wifi sufficient for trip preparation. Mattress was a little wobbly (we felt each other move easily) but otherwise faultless. Reccomended!

  • We had a lovely time at Hieu and Carol's lodge! The place is very peaceful, clean and comfortable, with a great kitchen. It's located in the woods about an hour and a half drive from Yosemite National Park, making it a very good location to explore Yosemite and it's surroundings.

    Fabian2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean place with everything you need inside. Easy to access. Really nice for a get away

  • This is a wonderful place to stay! Sparkling clean, comfortable bed, great kitchen, living area and bath and located in such a peaceful setting. This is a TINY house (approx 8' x 12') with two smaller-than-twin bunk beds with (4) mattresses. Campers often like this better than tent camping because they are glamping with heater, air conditioner, fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee-pot. A nearby building has hot showers and toilets and there is also a stainless steel sink with pots, pans, soap and sponges plus a stainless steel, gas BBQ and fire pits. You too can enjoy the tiny house experience!
This is a rustic tiny house cabin. In a sense it is glamping in the wilderness while having most the comforts of home. Campers bring their own sheets and blankets or sleeping bags and pillows if they want them.
  • We had a really good time at Mac’s place. It’s indeed tiny but it’s good value for the money. He was very helpful giving us advice on what to see and visit in Yosemite.

    Cristina2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • The place was as described. The bathrooms present on the campgrounds were clean. We had an amazing time staying at the tiny house. Mac was a great host with great sense of humor and tips for our travel.

  • MAC was a great host! His description and communication before our stay as well as his tips during our stay provided the perfect mini cabin camping experience. • Miriam’s place is awesome with pretty interior design. Fuss free check-in! Waking up to beautiful scenery, a perfect retreat and for those visiting Yosemite (: Its off the beaten path, so take note there is no reception nor wifi around the area. But its perfect for us, nice way to be free from the cities! Not to mention, the ranch was huge and spacious! Air-conditioner provide us with enough heat to warm us up in the winter (: We even get to see horses and deer around the ranch! Definitely recommend and will come back here during other season for a different view.

We are happy to make introductions to local farms, massage therapist and just about anyone you would like to meet.
  • This beautiful and serene ranch is a perfect week or weekend escape from the Bay Area (or any city!). We're a group of eight, two couples and four kids plus a dog, and we all had a great time. This place is heaven for a city dog who never gets to run around in the woods. The property is large enough to take a nice little walk/hike around it (about 20-30 minutes on a trail) and for kids to play and explore. The house, unlike a lot of Air BnB's, has EVERYTHING you could possibly need. The hosts are very thoughtful and were immediately responsive when we asked them questions. The town of Coulterville is tiny, but there's a great restaurant there, also owned by Kim and Dawn. I'd highly recommend this place!

    Abby2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay exceeded our expectations! Dawn and Kim were extremely hospitable, offered us fresh tomatoes and basil from their vegetable garden, and even invited us to their nightly routine feeding apples and grapes to Chica and Nibbler, the neighbor's horse and goat :) There were very nice touches throughout the house and property, including bluetooth speakers in the house and by the pool, as well as a well-equipped kitchen with everything you would need to cook a great meal. Plenty of bed space and perfect for large families! Will be back soon, thank you!

    Sebastien2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice pool area was perfect for our family get together. The cabin was spacious and the grounds had some nice short hikes.

    Meghan2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • It is a wonderful cabin, very clean and spacious. Great location, a lot of amenities, even got its own hiking trail. The owners are very thoughtful and quick in response. We had a wonderful time there.

    Hui2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Kim and Dawns home is very relaxing and open. It’s fecund surroundings encourage peaceful downtime and it’s proximity to Yosemite (1.5 hr) and San Francisco (2.5 hr) makes it an ideal option for an abode in between nature and the city. Any questions were answered quickly and the amenities were plentiful! Nice showers and beds. Be sure to spend time across the swing bridge on the patio next to the pool :)

    Charlie2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing 3 night stay at The Big Table Ranch. There were 8 people and 2 dogs in our group and we had so much space in and outside the house. The grounds and pool were even better in person. The beds, pillows and linen were high quality and so comfortable. Kim and Dawn allowed us to use their huge dog kennel and even checked on the dogs (apparently they had separation anxiety) frequently until they knew they knew they were ok and settled. This was a lovely place to relax after a day at Yosemite or even as a retreat Thanks Kim and Dawn for sharing your space with us!

    Dina2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a good, quiet place to relax after your day at Yosemite, with a choice of spaces to enjoy. Would be great for a big group. Definitely eat breakfast at the Coulter Café, and try the Iron Door Saloon in Groveland, and go for the brisket at Diamond BBQ in Greeley Hill.

    Paul2019-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • Kim’s cabin was the perfect rustic retreat for us and base for Yosemite. Even on or rainy day, we played scrabble and stayed warm by the fire. There was plenty of room for us to spread out and the well-equipped kitchen allowed us to cook hearty meals for 7. Great stay.

Dawn's Cottage is a lovely, 70 year-old two bedroom cottage in rural Greeley Hill, California, in the mountains. We are near Yosemite National Park, and in the middle of Gold Rush country. The elevation is just right, and the population is friendly!
This lovely, 750 square foot rustic cottage in rural Greeley Hill is just 25 miles from Yosemite National Park. You'll love the country atmosphere both inside and out. The two bedroom house features knotty pine walls throughout its interior and a full kitchen, while the view from the front porch looks over Bean Creek Preserve, the largest pristine meadow in Mariposa County. You're surrounded by lofty pines and black oaks and the stars at night show an array of dazzling lights unequalled at lower elevations. You never share the cottage with anyone else; your hosts live in their own house right next door. You can get away from it all or fill your days with activities. Yosemite, one of the world's most magnificent destinations, is close enough for fun-filled day trips. Your hosts are more than happy to share their extensive knowledge of the park, its amenities and its trails A famous local swimming hole, Rainbow pools, 14 miles away, features a waterfall: while 7 miles down the hill in Coulterville is a municipal pool (open summer only) just right for family activities. You can also go rafting through the famous Class 4+ rapids on the Tuolumne River. Four different companies offer these trips; ARTA, OARS, All-Outdoors and Sierra Mac all have websites, you must reserve space on their rafts ahead of time. This is Gold Country with its rich history; you might want to try your luck at gold panning. Along Maxwell Creek in Coulterville is a good spot. Or you may visit Sonora, the Queen of the Southern Mines, 34 miles away. Bear Valley, the sleepy former home of John C. Fremont, is 22 miles the other way on the road to Mariposa, the capital of our county. We are just off Highway 132, the Historic John Muir Trail. There are many cafes and restaurants in the adjacent communities of Groveland and Coulterville. 9 Diamonds BBQ is just down the street. The kitchen has all the utensils, pots and pans, bowls and china you could need, along with a stove/oven and 11 cubic foot refrigerator. We will be glad to provide you with fresh-ground Peet’s coffee for you to brew. Your hosts are both artists; Jim is a retired art professor and Dawn is an artist and published poet. Artwork abounds in the cottage and around the grounds. The 5 acre property features nearly 3 acres of woods to stroll and admire the views. Or break out your paints and sketch the scenery. At night you can admire the array of stars. There are no street lights in Greeley Hill to take away from the celestial display. Have you ever been chased by a moon shadow? Only by getting away from the lights of the city can you appreciate the splendor of a moonlit night! Back inside, you may watch movies or videos about Yosemite's attractions, connect to the internet via wi-fi or just stretch out on the master bedroom's queen size bed. The second bedroom features a double bed-sized futon, while two folding single futons are just right for children. All linens and blankets are provided, along with bath towels. There is no land line telephone service to the cottage, insuring a peaceful atmosphere (you may use our land line for emergencies). Cell phone service is irregular here. AT&T has a new tower that covers part of Greeley Hill, including our cottage. Please keep in mind that the cottage is 70 years old, and some of the infrastructure is 70 years old, too. Electricity and plumbing have been upgraded and have passed a county safety inspection. The bathtub is always a problem; you may notice some staining. Rest assured we have done our best to eradicate stains. Our plumber says the only way to replace the bathtub is to take the old one out through the exterior wall, a major project. Bring your family; the cottage can accommodate up to 6 people if at least 2 of them are children.
Greeley Hill is a wonderful, rural area with meadows and pine/cedar/oak forest. There are many walking trails in the national forest that lies immediately adjacent to private land. (The nearest hiking trail to our property is the Ponderosa Trail, several miles from us by car.)The people here are very friendly and helpful, always willing to talk about the area. Greeley Hill now has a BBQ cafe, 9 Diamonds BBQ, just 3/4 mile from our place!! Groveland, 14 miles away, is home of the world famous Iron Door Saloon, where locals and tourists meet for a good time. The Iron Door also features meals either in the bar or next door in the restaurant. It's open every day until 10 pm, later on weekends. Groveland also has many restaurants from fast food to California Cuisine dining. We are located on the historic John Muir Trail, the road he took to Yosemite. Did you know Muir herded sheep through Greeley Hill on his way to the high country? Coulterville, 7 miles down the hill from us, is home of the John Muir Geotourism Center and the Northern Mariposa County Historical Center.
  • Dawn's place is a lovely, comfortable cottage about a beautiful hours drive to Yosemite. She was very quick to respond and frequently checked on us to give us local tips, share some wine, show us around the property and make sure we were able to try some DELICIOUS bbq in town. Seriously, don't pass up the pulled pork or brisket. The home itself was clean, inviting, and displayed lots of beautiful art done by both Dawn and her husband Jim. Honestly, looking up to the night sky on the first night made me feel I had already gotten my moneys worth. If you want a clean, comfortable Yosemite accommodation with a host who is communicative and present, Dawn's place is for you!

  • Veeeeeery nice, dawn is a perfect host, and the cottage is beautiful. Beds comfortable, the kitchen works properly and every thing is special in this small "home". I recommend it to everyone who wants to stay in the middle of nowhere, and to visit yossemite park, it is not very far away.

  • This is a super cozy, stylish place. If you are a bookworm then you definitely should check this place out. It’s amazing that the entire place is filled with books, and it’s also filled with art too. Quiet, clean, great hospitality and prefect location. What can you expect after a long drive in a cold winter? A heater, a cup of hot coffee and a warm blanket, which are all provided here at this lovely, cozy place! I really enjoyed the stay and will definitely come back in the future.

  • Awesome cottage with lots of interesting books and artwork. Pretty cold outside but the heating system worked great. Everything you would need for cooking is there, plus lots of the essentials (salt, oil, pasta, oatmeal) are also provided. Dawn dropped by every day to check that we were okay and gave us lots of tips. Would definitely recommend!!

  • My friend and I loved the rural location. The night sky was dark enough to see the Milky Way. We could sit on the porch and watch the deer in the yard and in the meadow across the street. It was so peaceful to get away all the stress of a city. Dawn had lots of recommendations for restaraunts and travel. The cottage had a huge selection of books and artwork. We hope to return someday.

    Mardell2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • It is a very cozy 2bdrm cottage out in the countryside. Dawn has a lot of information on the area-very interesting articles, as well! Plenty to read -comfortable beds!

Greeley Hill is a small community in a pine and oak forest at approximately 3,100-foot elevation on the John Muir Highway and 25 miles from the Big Oak Flat entrance to Yosemite. Because Yosemite covers 1,200 square miles, it is difficult to give a drive-time estimate, in general.

  • This was a fantastic place to stay and we would stay here again next time we're headed to Yosemite. We had a group of 12 and the cottage fit us all perfectly! It is tucked away in a nice little community and only 1.5 hour drive to Yosemite Valley so it was very convenient. The kitchen was well stocked and we were able to cook for 12 people both nights. The beds were comfy and the fire pit was a nice play to hang out at night. Overall a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend!

October is one of our most beautiful months here in the mountains. The oak leaves are changing colors the air is crisp and cool but often sunny with a few wispy clouds floating by. This house is roomy and living areas are open. It has 2 dining tables and a large kitchen. Being located beside an apple orchard and mowed meadow area allows for views to enjoy birds and other wildlife and sometimes the neighbors horses.
This spacious and lovely 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath house with 1 king and 2 queen beds, large rock fireplace and deck is in a setting of both meadow and apple orchard only 28.3 miles (approximately 45 minutes) to the west gate (Big Oak Flat entrance) of Yosemite National Park and another 24 miles (approximately another 45 minutes) to the valley floor. There is basic internet for texting and a land line phone. It's a great place to relax and spread out after your visit to the magnificent but popular Yosemite. Nearby are waterfalls and swimming holes to which you can bicycle or drive and local trails to hike or bicycle. In late summer to early autumn you can pick apples outside your door or in fall enjoy the beautiful golden oak leaves, or in winter the sunshine, rain or snow. After a fresh air walk outside enjoy cozying up to the fireplace or wood stove for a cup of something hot. You may be fortunate enough to see wild life outside the lodge if you keep attentive to the outdoors. We consider ourselves the unofficial tour guides of Yosemite and can give you many tips on other places to see or enjoy in our own Mariposa County, or neighboring Tuolumne or Calavaras counties. Please contact us for any questions. We look forward to personally welcoming you to our quiet country abode.
Our neighbors are friendly and often will generally wave even if they don't know you. We are celebrating our somewhat newly paved road so no more bumpy ride the last mile to the Meadow View Lodge! We have a hardware/and basic grocery store open 8-7 in summer and 8-6 in winter, and a Chevron gas stations just 3 miles away. There is a more complete grocery store in Groveland about 16 miles away. In Greeley Hill there is 9 Diamonds BBQ restaurant (7 minutes or 3.5 miles away) In Coulterville just 20 minutes or 6 miles away is the Gold Country Bistro and the Coulter Cafe and many more in Groveland (16 miles away) Big Oak Flat and Buck Meadows (about 13.6 miles away.) Generally the area is quiet but occasionally our neighbors drive by with their tractor or quads and can have outside activities with some motor homes parked maybe 200 yards away, sometimes on holiday weekends.
  • Great little place to stay with crazy good access to Yosemite, and Stanislaus National Parks. Len and Anne are wonderful hosts, and were very accommodating. Be aware the water is heavy with what I assume is copper, because anytime we washed our hands it smelled like a penny, they provided water in the house however, thank you!

    Jake2019-10-14T00:00:00Z

  • Serine, private, comfortable and just lovely. The photos don't do the views justice. Lots of wild life about and was great to walk down to the ponds in the mornings with tea and coffee. This place is a good value and the host Miriam is very friendly and responsive. This is a no service place, my only suggestion is if you need groceries and plan to cook know where to got ahead of time! Thanks again Miriam, we are hoping to come back in the summer

  • PICTURES DO NOT DO IT JUSTICE We loved staying here. Miriam was very responsive, and even came down to introduce herself and check on us. I was afraid we would get cold since we are well into winter but the heating worked great and there were plenty of blankets. The beds were comfortable and the views were so pretty! There is cable and a big tv, and we got to see plenty of wildlife from right outside the windows. You will not regret staying here!

  • We had a wonderful Christmas week at the Deer Valley Ranch. It was quiet, safe and beautiful and a great way to unplug and enjoy family time. Miriam gave great directions and was ready to assist with anything we might need. The house was cosy with great couches and beds and everything was clean. My kids loved going for walks and spotting deer, horses, cows and turkeys. We will stay again if we are in the area!

  • This place blew us away. So quite and secluded but an acceptable driving distance from Yosemite. The place itself is large and roomy with all the things you need in a home from home. A great sellection of DVD's and to top it all, WiFi in such an out of the way place. Booked at the last minute but the hosts replied and kept in touch when necessary. Definately a big recommendation from my family and the best Airbnb we have stayed at.

  • We stayed here for a night before leaving very early to Yosemite. The place is a bit hard to find. The address puts you a bit ahead of the last turn you actually need to take while coming from Groveland. The bed is a bit too springy and the room doesn't really give you much privacy but everything was clean and and for anyone who needs a place to crash before heading to Yosemite this is perfect.

  • A lovely place for a family to stay at for a holiday getaway. It snowed during our stay there, so the drive there was a bit worrisome but the snow days on the property were a delightful treat. Big thanks to for Jim welcoming us upon arrival and helping us with the snow. Overall, the stay was homey and a nice change of environment.

    Nikki2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely lovely lodge with an amazing fireplace perfect for ending your nights with s’mores. Took us and hour and a half to get to Yosemite for day hikes, but the time flew by. And special thanks to Jim for taking such good care of us!

    Amanda2019-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to stay! Our party had lots of fun during our stay. The hosts are very easy to communicate with as well as their property manager Jim who came by to make sure we had enough wood for the fire place. They even communicated with us prior to our stay which we really appreciated. We loved the hot tub after a long day of hiking at Yosemite & enjoyed playing pool! I will consider booking this place again in the future!

    Chantyle2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • There were no surprises upon arrival at the lodge. It was very quaint and was the perfect place to getaway from the hustle and bustle of home and city lights. We enjoyed playing pool and relaxing in the hot tub after hiking in Yosemite. The hosts were very attentive prior to our trip and were quick to answer any questions and we appreciated the property manager, Jim, coming in to check on us. We had a wonderful stay. Thank you!

  • Miriam and Merlin are such kind hosts that provided detailed guidance to the ranch, and warm reminder for a potential blackout. When it indeed occurred, they offered us a wonderful experience at their own house! We are going to cherish the conversation and breakfast for a long time.

Picture perfect vacation home close to Yosemite National Park and Gold Country. With great views, a spa, comfortable beds, a well stocked kitchen and family-friendly activities you might never leave the house. The setting is quiet yet it is only a short 1/2 mile drive to gas station.
Clean and well stocked home with great outdoor spaces for playing, eating and relaxing. You can drive the John Muir historic route to Yosemite or visit the museums in Coulterville and Groveland both are historic Gold Mining towns. On your way to or from Yosemite you can stop at Buck meadows for a tasty dinner or swim at Rainbow Pool. The famous Iron door Grill and Restaurant is in Groveland as well as several other places to eat.
The home is in a very peaceful setting on lightly forested 2 acres There are acres of open fields across the road from the house with beautiful views. The kitchen has everything you need and there is a market nearby.
  • This place was a great to rest our weary bodies after long days of hiking at Yosemite. Comfortable beds and a powerful hot tub got us ready to go right back and hike again the next day. Note- the house is located about 15 minutes (8 miles) off the main road, on a super twisty road. We got to the main gate at Yosemite in well under an hour, and to the valley floor in probably 75 minutes. (no lines at front gate for us). We would stay here again when back at Yosemite. Lots of fun activities for little ones to do, putting green, tetherball, horseshoes, camp fire. Also tons of games, and TV options (Netflix / Hulu and wifi worked great!) The local market had a fire, so pack your groceries....closest market is in Groveland, about 30 minutes away. Thanks for hosting us!

  • We loved our stay here. It was the perfect place to come back to after exploring Yosemite. It is spotless and the kitchen is beautiful and fully stocked with everything you might need to cook meals. The bed in the master bedroom is truly the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! I'm thinking of buying this same matress for my bed since I can't stop thinking about it. I highly recommend this place!

Secluded and cozy place! Only 24 miles from Yosemite Park Entrance. Our lodge built in 1962 sits on 5 acres in a quiet neighborhood. Lounge on our large deck or backyard area surrounded by Pine trees, Oak trees, and Manzanita. Nestle by the fireplace on chilly nights in the living room or maybe the backyard fire pit is more your style.
Sitting on 5 acres of land, our cabin is secluded and cozy. We have a great outdoor area with a fish pond and fire pit surrounded by Pine trees, Oak trees, and Manzanita. There's also a great stargazing spot in the back. 3 bedrooms in the main house, 2 yurts, and a standalone Cottage with its own deck are on the property. There is also an outdoor kitchen with BBQ grill.
We are nestled in the back of a quiet neighborhood down a private road. Gas and Grocery are 1 mile away. We are in the mountains and as such you should be aware of: Cell service is very flaky, we have the best internet available for the area but it does not compare to city speeds, business' close earlier than expected, and in the winter it does snow, chains may be required (make sure you check the weather!).

This cozy ranch-style house is nestled into the hill beside a historic ranch. The open field makes for beautiful light in the evening and the mountain air is crisp in the morning. Both bathrooms have been updated and the kitchen has also been refinished. The TV comes with satellite for your use. Plenty of sitting and sleeping spaces for 6 people.
The field across the way separates you from the main road by a good distance. You get to feel secluded, like something from "Little House on the Prairie", but you don't have to sacrifice the convenience of a short drive to a store and quick access to the main highway that accesses Yosemite National Park. Both bathrooms and the kitchen have been remodeled. This home is owned by and managed by people that are invested in the area and want people to enjoy the historic feel and nature of the location. We are constantly updating and improving the experience, so you might find yourself returning year after year to enjoy the comfort of your home away from home.
Quiet neighborhood in Greeley Hill, CA. We are centrally located, which means our entire town is accesible by foot. We can walk to the gas station/store in 7 minutes. Across the field from us is a BBQ restaurant. The library and a small park are also within 5 minutes of walking.
  • very private - just what we wanted.

Beautiful property in the pines 24 miles from Yosemite National Park. Our rustic cabin is a studio with a double-bed & bunk-bed, mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker. Please bring sleeping bags/blankets, dishes and all essentials.
Located at 3300ft in mountain setting near Yosemite National Park surrounded by pine trees, deer, and other wild life. Rustic studio cabin with A/C, heat, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster very comfortable and cozy...
Greeley Hill is a wonderful, rural area with meadows and pine/cedar/oak forest. There are many walking trails in the national forest that lies immediately adjacent to private land. The people here are very friendly and helpful, always willing to talk about the area. We are located on the historic John Muir Trail, the road he took to Yosemite. Did you know Muir herded sheep through Greeley Hill on his way to the high country? Coulterville, 7 miles down the hill from us, is home of the John Muir Geotourism Center, the Northern Mariposa County Historical Center, and the famous Claim Jumpers Re-enactors' shootout. We are also located 60 miles from Dodge Ridge Ski Resort and Badger Pass Ski Area for your winter skiing enjoyment.
  • Cozy cabin for a more camping trip. Definitely helpful during the winter since the cabin is made out of wood and it has a heater! Bathrooms were sparkling clean and we loved the fire pit right in front of the cabin. The cabin is not isolated but neighbors were quiet and nice. Would highly recommend it!

  • We loved the camper!! A perfect rest stop outside of Yosemite. The view was superb! Sunset and stargazing- so wonderful! Carol was a fantastic host and her dogs are cool too! I recommend forcing gps/maps to bring you in on 120 and not 140! 120 is lovely- it has some cute roadside stops and goes through Stanislaus Forest if you are coming from or going to Yosemite. And also nice if you need a little break from the curvy drive!

  • Great stay with lovely hosts! Beautiful landscapes and wonderful night sky.

    Christian2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I stayed at Carol's for one night before heading to Yosemite. Carol was a very helpful host, ensuring we got specific directions both arriving and leaving her property. We arrived at night, and were excited to see bobcats and other wildlife. In the morning after a comfy night's sleep, we were greeted with a beautiful panoramic view right outside the trailer. I would have liked to hang around a bit longer here if it wasn't for the pull of Yosemite! Thank you Carol!

    Alanna2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful soul and person ! Carol is kind and very helpful ! The place is amazing in the middle of nowhere! I recommend you to book a night and just appreciate what you are going to live there !!
