  • Communication with Jay was easy and fast. We absolutely loved the views and area of Casa Bella. We were really only here at night and in the mornings so it made it such a wonderful place to lay our head at night. The beds were awesome and so comfortable. He left fruit and things in the fridge to snack on. It was an enjoyable experience we will never forget!

  • Great location, accommodations were okay.

  • We loved this house and the service we received was excellent. It is an amazing house for the price and we would stay here again in a heartbeat... in fact we tried to come back later in the trip, but it was occupied. There was food and drink waiting for us, and even a phone available for our use. Jay was out of town but we were received by Christian who was very helpful. Also Santos and Rosi who care for the property were great. The view is amazing. A few things future travelers may find helpful: the kitchen and living room are completely wide open, which may take some getting used to for some. You will have non-human Costa Rican visitors, but that's part of the experience and we enjoyed it. There is no oven and only a two burner cookstove. Also, the two bedrooms are completely separated, on either side of the open space. This may be an issue for those traveling with small children like we were since you can't leave your doors open at night since it would be open to the outdoors. So you can't keep an ear out for the kids if they're in the other room. Also, the bathrooms are open to the bedrooms, so you don't have a lot of privacy there between whoever is in the bathroom and whoever is in the room. Lastly, the drive up to the house is REALLY steep, as is the driveway. The rental van could barely make it up the road when fully loaded (I once had to stop for an iguana in the road and then had to back back down to try again) and the emergency brake on the rental van was not strong enough to keep the van in place on the driveway without drifting, so I left it outside the gate. All of the above was perfectly fine with us and was part of the experience of life in Costa Rica. There are only a few negatives I would report. First, the sofas and chairs are very well worn and really need to be replaced. Second, the countertop in the bathrooms are made of a porous sand-like material that absorbs whatever falls on it. So every bit of soap or toothpaste that has ever fallen on it is still there. Also, the internet was spotty which was a problem for us since we had to work during our stay, but there probably wasn't anything that could be done about that. Lastly, one of the showers has a drain that is too high so it doesn't drain well. Regardless of the few things that are less than perfect, I would still highly recommend this as a place to stay in Cost Rica!

  • We staid at Jay's property our first night in Costa Rica and all I can say is WOW! The house and the views are breathtaking, specially at night. This is the PERFECT place if you want to stay in the hills and have privacy yet still be close to town. Also, I met Christian who gave us our keys, he's really friendly! Bottom line, love love love!

  • Our stay in Casa Bella was a last minute plan and were very pleased with our stay in this house. The house itself is located on a mountain (very high mountain) and within a private residence neighborhood. Jay was very attentive in responding promptly to my messages and provided information on places to dine, relax, and explore. As other reviewers have mentioned, the house is clean, beds are extremely comfortable, and you are welcomed to a home equipped with fruits, chocolates, drinks, and breakfast essentials. While we did not get to meet Jay directly, Wendy the host was the sweetest and very resourceful as Jay was. Our family relaxed and enjoyed the picturesque views from the house. It is about a 30 minute drive to airport (using the new main highway). Definitely enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend to anyone visiting the San Jose area.

  • Our host, Jay, was very friendly and helpful. The house was better then listed. When we arrived there was a cell phone available for us and the house came with full hotel services: the cleaning lady came every day, there was soap and shampoo provided, etc. It turned out there was good working wifi available as well (was not listed). The living and kitchen area are both al fresco and completely open. The two bedrooms are very spacious, have king size beds and great quality mattresses. Each bedroom has sliding doors with insect screens. There is a cute little rancho with furniture in the yard with fantastic views over the hills and the valley. No noise, very private, very safe (it's inside a community) and pretty complete. Tip: make sure you bring your own entertainment (laptop, dvd's, netflix, etc) since there's no TV in the house. The neighborhood of Atenas is great - friendly and very Tico, but also internationally oriented with many expats. We loved the restaurant La Garreta the best, but there were more nice places around. The location is central to many tours and trips to explore Costa Rica. It's also close to the CIMA hospital and the Hosital de Mexico, the mall and much more.

  • Four of us stayed at Jay's house on the hill for two weeks. The open air living area was lovely, and the layout with a private bedroom and bath on either side worked wonderfully for us. Jay welcomed us with wine, fruit and coffee, and eggs and butter. During our stay Jay was helpful but not intrusive. His restaurant recommendations were great. We ate at all of them. Above the house is a separate sitting area with a wet bar, and a 180 degree view of the city and the mountains. The sunsets were spectacular. Future renters should be aware that the property sits at the top of a very steep and winding road. A car would be a good idea. It's quite a walk. We would definitely stay there again and maybe we will!

    Mary2015-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Jay was a wonderful host. Very easy to communicate with and very kind. The house was perfect for what we needed:clean, and safe. It is inside a very nice gated community and has wonderful views. I would highly recommend staying at Jay's pad!

  • My stay at Thomas and Lili's place in Quepos was wonderful from beginning to end. I planned to stay in the Treehouse for 2 nights and then move on to another city, but because of how beautiful and natural the property was, I extended my stay for 2 more nights in the 'Rustica', a huge cabina overlooking the Pacific. In the tree house I got to see many monkeys. Mostly squirrel monkeys, and Howler monkeys. They would come right up to the deck! I highly recommend staying at Thomas and Lili's place. I hope I have a chance to go back!

    Emily & Alex2012-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Thomas and Lili's tree house pushed an already great Costa Rican experience into a whole new level of enjoyment. The closeness of the trees and wildlife along with the beauty of the house itself lent a serenity to the experience. It made reading a book, eating a meal, or enjoying the company of a loved one just that much more special. This is the best of both worlds, with nature at your doorstep and the lovely town of Quepos just a short walk away (taxis are also easily available). There are a wide variety of activities that you can enjoy in the area including horseback riding, zip lining, hiking, boat tours, beaches, restaurants, snorkeling, four-wheeling, dancing, and shopping. We tried and loved snorkeling, horseback riding to a waterfall at the base of which you can swim, touring the Manuel Antonio national park with a guide and zip lining. Fun fact, all these activities are a short drive away and the Manuel Antonio park is easily accessible by bus or taxi. After a long day of activity, the recently built pool is the perfect place to relax your muscles. We spent a great evening conversing and eating on the deck beside the pool with a wonderful couple who were staying at the villa next to Thomas' home. We truly enjoyed our experience in this place, and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Thomas was incredibly helpful in arranging outings, offering advice and information, and ensuring that we received great service. He is a warm and friendly person whose love for Costa Rica and its people is genuine and infectious. His wife, Lili, is also friendly and helpful. They are both readily available for help, conversation, or a friendly laugh. You will surely meet shop keepers and tourists who can give you tips on where to eat (Thomas does as well and his suggestions are great) and shop. We also had the chance to go out with fellow tourists and the guides were very friendly. Do not be afraid to use public transportation, it's reliable and safe. Reserve your stay at the tree house if you want to be close to everything yet feel like you're on a secluded island. I loved everything but I must say that hiking to the nearby beach was very rewarding and then straight to the pool upon our return. Should you need a bank, use BAC San Jose. Our Canadian bank cards didn't work at the National Bank. Trust me, you will not regret staying at this property with all the modern amenities such as a microwave and a semi-automatic washing machine, plus electric gas burners, a fridge, coffee maker and blender. These conveniences were a nice surprise. Lastly, the animals will come to you, that is a fact, it was so cool. Laurianne & John

  • Best place ever! It's a paradise. I saw many monkeys who were with me on the porch. I'll go back for sure!

    Amelie2014-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great time at the tree house! The place is more beautiful than the pictures, the pool is very chill! We even got visited by Some white face monkeys!

    Stephanie2014-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Thomas and Lili were truly the consummate host! Thomas met us pronto when I called him, and gave me the insights into life in and around Quepos / Manuel Antonio area. The Tree house was an awesome experience from the moment we walked in the door. It's like being in, and on top of the canopy of the rain forest, but at the same time, you're a few blocks from Quepos. Everyday we saw different animals nearby. Toucan's, Humming birds, Sloth's, monkeys (howler's and white faced) parrots, and various other beautiful animals including the wonderful large Mariposa butterfly. Every night was a treat also, because it's almost like sleeping outside where the stars are right outside the porch. Although it's open, don't fear there were no mosquitoes or flies. We were also treated to a view of their other rentable residence, which was spectacular! Although it was a little out of our range monetarily. It is a treat if you want to rent a whole apt for a night or a few nights or more. Lili was also a treat to meet, my wife had great conversation with her, being they are both into health and helping others. If I ever return, which I hope to, I will definitely return to stay with them. Although, we were only there a few days, I feel as though we are family already! Thanks to Thomas & Lili. In Costa Rica the best time of the day - if you're a nature lover - is the early morning and when dusk starts, because this is when the animals are very active in Costa Rica, although not the only times. If there, do travel around, we went as far as the top of the Oso peninsula. And also as far north as Arenal. So, bottom line, visit Thomas and Lili as soon as you're able to do this! Pura Vida, Grace and peace to all, Jim and Geraldine.

  • We had a wonderful time at the tree house, what an adventure! Thomas was very helpful, we highly recommend it =)

    Natalia2012-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place is incredible! We did not want to leave the treehouse for our whole week in Quepos. We saw so many monkeys and sloths, and the area is just beautiful. The house is one of the nicest places we've stayed in Costa Rica, and the bed is very comfortable.

    Elissa2012-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • If you are heading to Manuel Antonio, you HAVE to stay at the treehouse. Our experience was more than we imagined, and exceeded our expectations. As promised, Thomas met us in town and we followed him in our rental car up the mountain to the treehouse. *As a side note, if you're not used to mountain driving, be forewarned that the road is steep and bumpy, and a 4x4 is highly recommended! The treehouse is beautifully designed and decorated, and is VERY spacious. My boyfriend and I spent our birthdays in the house (his was the 5th and mine the 6th), and it was perfect birthday present to ourselves. Also, the treehouse is a great hideaway from the touristy areas of Manuel Antonio. It is very quiet and and private, yet only a 5-10 min drive up the mountain to Manuel Antonio and the numerous restaurants on the mountain. There is a gas burner and a microwave so we made breakfast every morning and ate on the back porch while watching our monkey and sloth friends play in the trees. Thomas also helped us plan our zipline adventure right when we got in. Thank you Thomas and Lilli for making our Costa Rica vacation so amazing!!

    Quepos, Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica

Beautiful, private villa with a fabulous ocean view and a secluded, infiniti pool. Very popular villa with both honeymooners and retired people. It is a prvate subdivision with 26 villas with support from rental manager and other staff. The villa is almost equal distant from both Liberia - LIR and San Jose - SJO airports. I believe it is easier to drive south from Liberia airport on a straight, scenic and paved highway.
The 3500 square feet villa is on a very private, 2/3 acre lot with ocean and rain forest views. The beautiful swimming pool is partially shaded by a picturesque "Corteza Amarillo" tree. The villa has "Almond Wood" hardwood floors in the living area including bedrooms. The full kitchen has black granite counter tops. All appliances, pots, silverware, china and coffeemaker are included in the kitchen. The gazebo has both gas Bar-B-Q and 4 burner cook-top with ocean views. Master bathroom has 2 large bowl sinks, large tub, bidet and large windows with a view of the rain forest. The house a large, flat screen TV, amplifier with whole house, surround sound, speaker system. The house has 10 fans and air conditioning. The large master bedroom has a king bed and the second spacious suite has a full bath with two queen beds. The house is on a hill top with wonderful 120 degree views of Nicoya bay and the hilltop location gives one a unique sense of Privacy with no neighbor to look in. The subdivision is 3 miles from the ferry station but it is advisable to rent an SUV so short day trips to Nicoya, Samarra, Carillo, Tambor, Paqueras ( Tortuga island snorkeling ) can be done. Renters have access to a near by grocery and liquor store. The store also provides DVDs and books free of charge. Concierge service is also included. The "Roma del Mar" development has 2 private beaches and a private pier for fishing. There are numerous beaches close by (Playa Blanca 5 kms away) and a golf course at the Tambor Bay. A one time payment of $100 is required for cleaning the villa both before and after the rental. All day maid for cooking is available through the manager and a massage specialist manicurist/ pedicurist available - reservations through management. . The internet access and the router is free. Location Description: Playa Naranjo, Puntarenas, Costa Rica (next to Cabo Blanco on (website hidden) map), Central America. Fly to Liberia Airport (Code: LIR). Two hours drive from Liberia airport and 5 minute drive from Puntarenas/Playa Naranjo Ferry.
The neighborhood is private, quite and away from busy tourist spots with plenty of things to do in the area. Our rental manager has a long list of optional tours
  • This villa was a dream come true! My husband and I spent 5 nights here on our honeymoon and loved every minute; as other reviewers have stated, the pictures do not do it justice. Raj was so helpful from the time we booked the place, sending information about the country, and many fun activities. Arlene made sure we could easily book activities and provided information while we were there. The villa is indeed off the beaten path and the driving was exciting, do make sure you rent a 4WD vehicle! But there were plenty of things to do within a couple hours drive, and we had a great time exploring the southern end of the Nicoya Peninsula. We also had ample time to relax by the pool with the most beautiful view you can imagine, and enjoyed massages on the pool deck with Anja. I would highly recommend this place!

    Marijka2015-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in Puntarenas was just fabulous! This was our first time to Costa Rica - what a beautiful country! Raj was great! He provided so much information up front, we knew exactly what to bring and how things would work. Any question I asked, Raj answered quickly, I mean within minutes! I can't even describe how great the home in Roma Del Mar is. The view you see in Raj's picture is what you see from the entire house! It is amazing. The pictures you see of the home on Airbnb do not do it justice. It is incredible! Make sure when planning the adventures on your trip, you build in time to stay at the villa. Roads are not great, so it takes a lot of time getting from place to place. Rest up and enjoy the beauty of the villa some of your stay. Take advantage of the personal dinners provided by Adrian and Arlene - we were too late to schedule but heard rave reviews from others who were able to take advantage. Also, make sure the airport gives you a 4 wheel drive vehicle, you need it to get up the driveway! My suggestion, let Arlene make the arrangements for you because the car rentals sometimes don't honor your reservations....

  • Honeymoon in Paradise. This listing looked too good to be true. When we arrived, we felt the same way... it is truly paradise here. The closest beaches to get to were not that great, but it didn't matter because we hardly wanted to leave the villa anyway. This was our first visit to Costa Rica and it seemed like this location is a bit quiet and not a lot of tourists (which is what we preferred). Through Roma del Mar, there are several tours/activities that can be booked. This was a very simple process; we did the snorkel tour and 1/2 day ziplining. Both tours were excellent! Arlene was excellent to work with and the check-in process was quick and easy. The house was very clean and comfortable and we felt safe. This was an excellent choice for a rental; very relaxing and serene. I highly recommend this listing and Raj is an excellent host who will provide you with a lot of useful information to help you trip go smooth!! *definitely need a SUV with 4-wheel drive to get to this house! (we had a little suzuki and it was perfect).

    Bridget2015-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time in this very beautiful Villa. The pool and especially the view are spectacular and we enjoyed every single minute. We cooked and barbecued outside and went to the nearby beach. It was a Perfect time in a Perfect surrounding.

    Rita2015-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • The entire experience was wonderful! Raj's instructions and suggestions were spot on! Everything from his very helpful specific directions to the house to his info about things to do and places to see. The house, view and people involved were great and everything was exactly as he described. We were so happy to get to spend our vacation here relaxing and would certainly look forward to going back.

  • Our 10 days trip to Costa Rica took a long time to plan, we wanted everything to be perfect, and the biggest, most important part, was where we were going to stay. We have two kids (12 and 9) and so we wanted a nice place that would feel like home. It's worth mentioning that it was also our first experience with Airbnb. After looking at some possible locations, we really fell in love with Raj's villa at Roma Del Mar. Before making the reservation, we had many questions and Raj was great at giving us very detailed information, that made our life easy and confirmed our choice of staying at Roma Del Mar. Like many others have mentioned here, the pictures are great but they do not give you the feel of the amazing view we had from the villa. Also the place is very big and spacious, and the pool is nothing short of spectacular. We could have easily stayed at the villa for the 10 days and be very happy, but when we did drive around to do some activities, (some who were greatly suggested by Raj), it was such a pleasure to come back to this beautiful place. A great home away from home. It is also important to say that the people who were there to greet us, Caroline and her husband, were super nice and helped us with any remaining details on sight. Can't say enough how we would recommend this place to all friends and family, in fact we already started doing so! Thank you Raj :)

  • We had a great, relaxing stay at Raj's wonderful home in Playa del Mar! The view is to die for!!! It was a perfectly romantic blissful place for us to spend the week. The details and recommendations provided before the trip were spot on and Caroline and others were very helpful during our stay. We can't wait to go back!!! Pura vida, Mike and Shawn Ott

Santa Fe style home, twice in Architectural Digest of Costa Rica. Acres of gorgeous gardens, 40 ft waterfall, 20 min from airport. 15 acres of private forest. Internet access. 3+ bedrooms 2 1/2 bath, office. Beautiful kitchen. Driver available. Gardener can help take you to the waterfall on the property. Great local restaurants, look at airbnb guidebook. Early check in possible some days, $10 fee given to guard so they come early. Read the airbnb house manual for good tips, very important!
Santa Fe style home, with rare recycled woods. Acres of beautiful gardens, view of valley. Smell of jasmine and gardenias. 15 acres of included forest and 40ft waterfall, yet only 20 min to airport! Mi Kiva was designed by a famous architect that created very warm feeling by using recycled rare rosewood and other wood and 100+ year old tile in some locations to add texture and visual interest. Mi Kiva has a sensory surprise around every corner, and is super relaxing.
Other neighboring beautiful executive homes form a close-knit neighborhood. Safe, no crime. Many neighbors have purchased acres of forest across the creek/river. In addition to our 15 acres, the others combine to be some of the last original forest in the area so close to San Jose. Mi Kiva sits on 2 acres with executive homes bordering with similar lot sizes. There is a small bridge that gives access to the adjoining Mi Kiva owned property that has paths and is rain forest. Poas and La Paz Waterfall gardens nearby. With cautious speeds 45 minutes drive. Zip lining and hiking available on Barva, or hike the property.
  • The house was incredible. We spent a lot of our time outside enjoying the seclusion of the private gardens. Really enjoyed the hiking trail. Not far from the airport or Poas which was our destination for our first full day. A great place to bookend your trip if you are flying into SJO airport.

    Craig2015-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • The property is indeed a “magical home” and we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Specifically, the grounds surrounding the home was the most impressive; the path leading to the wood landing overlooking the river is such a beautiful feature and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Obviously, the architecture speaks for itself. The country style layout of the home was open and inviting yet offers complete privacy when needed. Every amenity that one could ask for was present, which made our stay even more enjoyable. Thank you so much for maintaining such a stunning place and offering it to others!

    Mark2015-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place was incredibly. I really don't know what else to say, other than I wish we would have stayed much longer to enjoy it. The waterfall was a tough hike and especially since the bridge to cross the stream was washed out. Be prepared for a muddy but short and fun hike! The area was very safe and people were so friendly. The house was amazing, just cant describe and ambiance, views, quite places to rest, gardens.. it was just perfect.

  • My boyfriend and I only got to stay for 1 night but it was the most amazing experience. The house is more than gorgeous and the property is unbelievable. We hiked to the waterfall and of course, that was amazing as well. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Costa Rica!

  • Amazing set up and really cool hike literally in the backyard. Close to Poas volcano. Definitely will be back

  • Wonderful house. Beautiful scene. About 30minutes drive to San Jose. We four have a wonderful time there.

  • Gerald's place was truly magical. My family of four stayed at Gerald's on our last stop prior to our return flight home out of SJO. Before arriving at Gerald's we stayed at both high-end resorts in Bajos Del Toro and Tabacon as well as hipster beachside villas in Montezuma. During that time we saw and did any number of amazing things, and yet we were still absolutely blown away by Gerald's property. The hacienda itself is spacious, almost having a quietly palatial feel, and the grounds are simply unbelievable. Because we had already done our share of eco-touring, we passed on what we understood was an amazing site in the La Paz waterfall and opted, instead, for a tasting experience at the Sibo artisinal chocolate facility about 50 mins away. If you like chocolate, you have to make this tour. Gerald was extremely responsive and helpful in arranging transportation for us with Miguel since we had already returned our rental car before arriving. We highly recommend Gerald's place for a stay of any length. Cheers Gerald.

  • Mi Kiva was just as advertised; beautiful, spacious, and easily accessible by car. The property behind the estate is gorgeous, the staff helpful and pleasant, and Jerry was thoughtful with several on-point suggestions about the neighborhood. Although just outside San Jose, Mi Kiva gives you the illusion of being in a Costa Rican rainforest. I'd definitely recommend staying here.

  • Myelf and 7 of my dearest friends spent a fabulous week in Santa Teresa mainly because of the wonderful accommodation provided by Surf vista villas. Although we did not have the pleasure of meeting Andrew who was also on vacation, it was apparent by how smooth everything ran, that we were not only expected but also valued. The location could not have been more perfect for a week of relaxation, yoga, surfing(for some of us:), and the BEACH!!! Waking every morning by the sound of howler monkeys(priceless), picking star fruits and fresh lime right in our back "forest"(not yard) was more than what what asked for and nonetheless much appreciated. We watched the best sunrises and sunset from our spacious and cozy deck and created fond memories. For this, we are more than grateful! We can't forget to hank Juan(Andrew's worker) who was also most helpfully! Thank you Andrew for facilitating an unforgettable trip! I will highly recommend you to any of my friends/family. Sincerely, Pam Thank you Andrew

  • My 4 girl friends and I had a great time at the Surf Vista Villas in Sta. Teresa!!! We stayed 2 nights and wish we could have extended the stay! We had one of the second floor rooms with 3 beds, enough for all 5 of us to be comfortable and with room to spare. The rooms were very clean and cute and the shower worked great. The outdoor kitchen was perfect for us, we used it to make a simple breakfast and a family style dinner. The hammocks were my favorite part since they were right on the balcony so you could enjoy the gorgeous view while relaxing and drinking coffee or reading a book. Andy was really nice and helpful and we enjoyed meeting his dogs as well! We got in very late the first night but "checking in" was super easy. Wifi worked great throughout the place even though in a place like that it is nice to disconnect a little too! Overall we had a great time and we are all hoping we can return one day!

  • Surf Vista Villas was wonderful. I highly recommend it. The house was beautiful, peaceful and well maintained; the staff was friendly, helpful and responsive. The other guests were very sweet, and the view couldn't be beat! We loved the location - a little out of the hubbub of downtown, byt only a 10 minute walk to the closest grocery and restaurant (Soda), and 20 minute walk on the beach to the heart of downtown. Walk to the ocean in 10 minutes. Yes, there is a BIG hill to walk up to get to the lodge -- you probably want a car if you have small children or don't like walking hills. We walked it 2-4 times a day, and it was fine. I have buns of steel now ;) Thank you to Andy, Juan, Juan and the rest of the staff at Surf Villa Vistas!

  • We spent 5 days at Surf Vista and it was fantastic. The villa was spacious and clean; the view of the ocean was spectacular. Andy was a wonderful host - highly recommended to book with him. We opted to not rent a car or ATV since our plans kept us local. But, the hill up to the property should not be underestimated! It's quite the hike, so bring some sturdy shoes if you're not renting a car.

    Maggie2014-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I stayed with Andy just recently. Our villa absolutely lived up to the positive reviews on the site. The space was welcoming and spacious. The kitchen was well-stocked, the beds were comfortable and the villa was very clean. Our favorite part was definitely the patio - the view was breathtaking. Andy was incredibly attentive and responsive to our thousands of questions. We hope we weren't too annoying, but Andy made us feel at home. It's true that the hill up to the villa can be a bit of a hike, but while we were there, Andy helped us get a ATV. I would absolutely recommend this, it was really fun zipping around Mal Pais on one!

    David2015-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • The photos do not lie -- this place was AMAZING! Breathtaking views, really comfy mattresses, and a fully equipped kitchen. Basically totally awesome. Andy is super chill, friendly and helpful. The climb up the hill is pretty intense, so it's best to stay at this place if you have a car. If you are on foot, it is an incredibly rewarding climb. Thanks Andy!!

    Petra2010-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous place! The view is unbeatable. Everything was clean and convenient. Andy was quick to respond to any questions or requests I had throughout the stay. I recommend this place and town 100%. We hope to be back one day in the near future for a longer stay!

    Josefa2014-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew was a great host. He is super friendly and was helpful with directions, restaurant recommendations & tips. The Villas were even better than expected; so clean, so comfy and such an amazing view of the ocean-especially at sunset! The vibe is super chill and there are plenty of outdoor spaces to relax. We ended up renting an ATV from Andy for a day to explore Santa Teresa and Hermosa beach which was convenient. The hill is no joke guys!

  • We had a amazing time staying at Phil's Coffee Ranch, what a wonderful introduction to the country of Costa Rica. We were welcomed with incredible hospitality, and it was fun to hear about cool things to do in the country as well as share our plans. Thanks in part to a recommendation from Phil's daughter we went to Baldi Hot Springs in Arenal and absolutely loved it. The grounds are beautiful and very peaceful (it was fun getting a tour), and the room had everything we needed. An awesome place to stay and wasn't too hard to find from the airport. Also, Phil did a great job checking in with us before the trip, making sure we had directions, helping us know what to expect, etc. Oh, and the breakfast was perfect, served of course with some of the best coffee that I've ever had! :)

    Ben2013-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Phil was really good. He helped us get a taxi to and from places and is really friendly. We only stayed there one night so we weren't able to really enjoy the grounds, but the place was clean and safe. We would recommend it to guests who want to stay somewhere a bit closer to San Jose without being right in the city.

    Melissa2014-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great time staying with Phil! Very helpful. Would never have found my way around Costa Rica if it were not for the help of him and his daughter. Good conversation, great stay, and great introduction to Costa Rica. Pura Vida!

    Mathew2013-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I had a great time at Phil's. Though we got lost finding his place (and thus advise following his directions carefully and not driving in the dark!), we had a pleasant stay. Phil was a very welcoming host and his property is beautiful. I suggest bringing ear plugs to drown out the sound of dogs barking in the neighbourhood; other than that, it was great! Phil helped us order pizza, made us breakfast and gave us a tour of his beautiful property.

    Lesley2013-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • Phil is a hoot! So nice and accommodating. The property is gorgeous and you have the chance to stroll around the winding paths through the coffee plants and down to the tropical stream. There's a nice restaurant just a short walk away through the neighborhood for lunch or dinner and then if you're lucky, you'll have some time to swap some great stories with Phil. Definitely recommend staying here and checking out the farm, especially if you want a little taste of the coffee farming process without paying for a tour at a bigger operation. Phil's got it all right there. Very cool.

    Malia and Melaney2013-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Phil was accommodating and made us feel at home. He meet us in town to take us to his beautiful estate and then we chatted over his tasty coffee. The grounds are stunning and we enjoyed the magical gardens before we had to get on the long flight home. Easy to book and comfortable.

    Rachel2015-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • A nice little detour from San Jose. Plus: Phil's backyard coffee garden is nice and cozy. Minus: We didn't get much sleep due to the all-night barking of local dogs. If you visit San Isidro be sure to check out Cool Bar. Cool bar.

    Zack2015-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Phil was a helpful, engaging and gracious host. He has had some very interesting life experiences, which if you show some interest, he will share. His home is beautiful. It is in the hills above San Jose and at night has a gorgeous view of the city. I stayed in the small studio by the house. It was very attractive and clean. The TV had some English channels. I did not see the other accommodation. If you arrive at SJO late in the day, are renting a car and you are unfamiliar with the area be prepared for a challenge finding his place. There are two large, rambunctious but lovable outdoor dogs. Ask for the tour of the coffee growing area. I will not hesitate to stay here again.

Beautiful & very private 'eco-luxury' retreat near South Pacific Coast. Our unique & stunning location offers guests panoramic sea views & hangs dramatically over the jungle canopy. Romantic getaway, nature lovers and adrenalin junkies paradise!
WELCOME to Pura Vida Ecolodge, a unique 'eco-luxury' award-winning retreat nestled amongst virgin rain forest just 5 km from the volcanic sands of the Pacific Ocean in Central America's Costa Rica. It’s for the nature lovers among you who will no doubt discover animals of all shapes and sizes throughout their stay both on our lodge’s doorstep and with perhaps, the occasional smaller visitor inside. It’s for travellers who are ready to respect, accept and embrace a different and more laid back culture than perhaps they’re used to ‘back home’. We have our own nature trails, waterfalls & natural plunge pools both near the ecolodge & on the edge of the Pura Vida Ecolodge Reserve - the easiest trail starts right by the ecolodge, with more challenging treks on the edge of the reserve just a short up-hill walk (300m) from the lodge. Your adventure can be as extreme or relaxing as you choose with a plethora of natural swimming pools, waterfalls and rock faces to explore! Whether you are honeymooners, a group of friends or a large family of 7, you will have the entire ecolodge just to yourselves. We have also planted lots of trees, so please be our guests and pick any of the fruits they are all obviously 100% organic! If you venture off any of the paths, take your boots and maybe a hiking pole. We are just a 10-15 minute drive (depending on season & road conditions) from the Costa Nera Highway allowing guests to easily explore the area with day trips to two of Costa Rica's most popular national parks (Manuel Antonio & Corcovado), stunning beaches (Playa Arco, Tortuga y Ventanas are our three favourites) and our concierge service can help with tours and boat trips, trekking options, scuba diving & snorkelling trips, kayaking, stand up paddling, surfing, hiking, mountain biking, canyoning, canopy lines and horse riding etc. The nearby village of Ojochal (just 5 minutes up the Costa Nera) is one of a few local villages hosting a whole load of fine dining and fusion restaurants or if you'd prefer to relax 'at home' we can happily arrange home-cooked 'tico' meals, food parcels (according to the season, fresh fish, ceviche and seafood all available) and fruit baskets to be delivered direct to the Jungle Villa. ECO-TRAVEL - Eco-travel in Costa Rica is your ticket to explore a plethora of amazing places that care just as much about the environment as they do about their guests. It's a country where 'organic' is as important as 'stylish', and the government plans to make it the world's first carbon-neutral country by 2021. ‘Pura vida' is Costa Rica's national motto, and for good reason. It's a real paradise: Our guests can enjoy the 'pure life' in some of the world's most bio-diverse jungles, rain forests and coastlines. The country's book-ended by beaches on its Pacific and Caribbean sides (hence the laid-back surfer ethos that characterizes coastal life) and inland, nature holds way: a full quarter of Costa Rica is protected land, from the smouldering volcanoes to dense jungles. In the highlands, farms and plantations produce delicious tropical fruit – as well as some of the finest coffee ever to grace your espresso PURA VIDA ECOLODGE FAQs: - WILL I NEED A 4x4 CAR? Yes, our retreat is situated 5km from the coast and the village of Coronado on a well maintained gravel road into the coastal mountains. A 4WD car is necessary. There is a convenience store or “soda" as they are called in Costa Rica, at the Coronado junction, where you can get the majority of your groceries and supplies. For supermarkets, restaurants/bars, beaches, bigger stores, etc. you would require transportation to the local towns of Ojochal (5 mins), Uvita (15 mins) up the Costa Nera Highway. Several taxi services are available but you cannot beat the independence of having your own 4WD. Driving time from San Jose is around 3.5 hours. Full details & directions in welcome pack TIP: Bring coins and change from the US or change colones for the highway tolls! - WHO SHOULD I RENT OUR 4WD WITH? We have been working with Vamos Rent-a-Car since we opened. They speak English and they have various offices around the country (Near San Jose Airport and Dominical amongst others). They will meet you off your flight or even at your hotel if you're setting off early in the morning. Be sure to mention us and Pura Vida Ecolodge to get the best prices & treatment. You should allow around an hour for vehicle collection and paperwork. - IS THERE SOMEONE IN COSTA RICA WHO CAN ASSIST ME WHILE I AM THERE? Yes, once you book Pura Vida Ecolodge, you will be sent the welcome pack which includes all the details of our housekeeper and his wife, who together with myself and Kika, will double up as your 'concierge service' leading up to and throughout your stay. Though our housekeepers are Spanish speaking only, they are very knowledgeable on the area and will be there at checkin & checkout and can help you throughout your stay with anything you might need. I'm sorry we cannot be there but you'll be in very good hands, Gersan & Ili are practically family! - IS THERE A BEACH NEARBY THAT IS EASY TO GET TO? Yes, in fact you are really quite spoilt for choice. Playa Tortuga is the nearest and possibly one of our favourites. Once down at the Costa Nera, it is just a 5 minute drive up the coast. A short drive further up the coast takes you to Playa Piñuelas, Playa Ventanas and then the stunning national park of Marina Ballena and Uvita. Full directions (including which beaches are best for swimming and surfing etc is included in your welcome pack). -HOW EASY IS IT TO FIND PURA VIDA ECOLODGE? Upon confirming your reservation, we send all our guests a welcome pack with very clear directions including photos of landmarks along the way. This is updated monthly as we aim to give all our guests as up-to-date info and recommendations as possible -ARE THERE RESTAURANTS AND SHOPPING NEARBY? Ojochal is the nearest town with a really good selection of fine & casual dining. You can find Fusion, Italian, Asian, “Typical Costa Rican," even a deli/bakery and a handful of great fruit smoothie and ceviche places. Further up the coast there is Uvita, again with a good balance of International and 'local' options. We include a full list of recommendations (both restaurants & bars) in the welcome pack. For shopping, you may wish to visit the bustling tourist town of Manuel Antonio (50-60 minutes drive north) which has souvenir, jewellery, and art/craft shops and many lively restaurants (we recommend a trip to Manuel Antonio, anyway, for the national park, which a lot of our guests do either on the way down or on the way back up to San Jose. -ARE THERE EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES CLOSE BY? Yes, yes, yes! Again, you can find more details on the Pura Vida Ecolodge web site, but there are spectacular waterfalls, nature trails and plunge pools right in the reserve itself. The surrounding area offers world class scuba diving, snorkelling, zip-lining, boat tours, mangrove tours, hiking, stand-up paddling, horseback tours, canyoning, as well as being located between the country's best national parks (Corcovado & Manuel Antonio) and a 20 minute drive from Marina Ballena National Park. There are dozens of picturesque, quiet beaches all the way up and down the Southern Pacific coast, with enough activities and adventures on offer to do something completely different every day! We can also recommend great day trips to the Osa Peninsula, Sierpe and Nuayaca Falls amongst others and an overnight option to Mt Chirripo is incredible if you have the time. For surfers, Playa Dominical has a famous left and right beach surf break, and waves 95% of the year. Closer to the lodge, Playa Tortuga and Ventanas often have good waves more for beginners or if you're after an almost private beach and wildlife experience, you can have breakfast or lunch at La Cusinga and then explore the different monkey colonies. if you're lucky you might spot some Red Scarlet Macaws and guests also regularly see lots of toucans and different types of parrots. The 10-min walk through the jungle down to Playa Arco is well worth the trek! -IS IT A QUIET NEIGHBOURHOOD? Yes, Pura Vida Ecolodge is the best of both worlds. While being a completely private retreat and reserve (both the house, pool and the surrounding nature trails) with it's orientation meaning that the property literally hangs over the jungle canopy on one side and directly faces the Pacific coast on the other, you will have a handful of neighbours nearby in the slowly growing community if you wanted a friendly chat or even some more tips on the area. -IS THERE A GROCERY STORE NEARBY? There is a good little 'pulperia' (small local store) on the crossroads at Coronado (around 5km away) that will most likely have most things you would need. There is also a great fish/seafood place just 1 km from the Coronado junction. For larger shopping, there are two big supermarkets ( as well as a really good Pharmacy) in Uvita, about 15 minutes up the coast -DOES THE ECOLODGE HAVE INTERNET AND CAN I PURCHASE A LOCAL CELL NUMBER? Yes, the house is equipped with WiFi for internet connection and you can even purchase a sim card for around $4 (around 2000 colones) by the luggage claim in the airport, you just need a passport. Sim card is technically free as you can use all of the funds with calls. While cellphone signals have greatly improved in the country, there are some spots around Coronado that don't have reception but there is consistently good signal in and around Pura Vida Ecolodge. Please note that while the WIFI/hotspot is fine for emails and checking the news etc, please don’t expect to be able to stream movies as it's only 3G speed. -WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE? A more detailed description of Costa Rica's seasons can be found on the Pura Vida Ecolodge web site, but in general you can expect about 85+ degrees at the beach year round. The only difference in climate year round is that May-November is the "green," or rainy season, and December through March/April is the dry season. The temperature up at the Ecolodge is always a few degrees cooler because it is around 1000ft. elevation, and you get great mountain breezes. Likewise, because of its proximity to the equator, the sunrise is around 5-5.30am with the sunsetting at 5.30-6pm. The ‘Green season's' rains are quite welcoming, it's always hot and the partial clouds and afternoon rains are soothing. Typically the rains start on the mountains between 2-4pm, maybe a little later by beach. For us, the best times of the day are between 5-7am. The congo monkeys will wake you up, and it's the most glorious part of the day and besides you'll most likely be asleep by 8/9pm! It's amazing how quickly you'll adjustment! -WHICH ROOMS HAVE AIR CONDITIONING? Both bedrooms/suites have A/C: the Ocean View Suite on the first floor, and the Jungle View Suite on the ground floor. Please note there is not A/C throughout the rest of the home, but there are ceiling fans in each room and the Ecolodge has been designed with your comfort in mind, with large-open plan living spaces, surrounded by sliding doors leading out onto the wrap around decks which mean there are lovely fresh sea-breezes throughout. -WILL I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING WITH ME? You need not bring any household items as all bedding, tableware, towels, cookware etc are all provided. We also provide a wonderful fruit basket and some other local delicacies on arrival. Bring only your personal items, and of course a sense of 'Pura Vida' adventure! -IS PURA VIDA ECOLODGE A PRIVATE LOCATION? Yes, not only is the location incredibly private but regardless of your group size, you will have the entire retreat (house and surrounding reserve) just to yourselves. A lot of our guests are honeymooners and couples, as well as groups of friends and entire families. Either way, whether you are 2 people or a group of 6 with kids, you will have the entire property to yourself. - IS COSTA RICA SAFE? In general Costa Rica is very safe, however petty crimes do happen especially by the beaches or touristy areas. Do not bring any valuables to Costa Rica with you and especially do not bring them with you to the beach. TIP: Leave the glove department open to indicate it's empty.
The neighbourhood offers guests peace and quiet and has an abundance of nature and stunning flora and fauna. You can wake with the sounds of the congo howler monkeys and watch the sunset as the toucans fly right by the house. There are nature trails and waterfalls just a short walk away plus plenty of adventures on Pura Vida Ecolodge's doorstep!
  • Our experience at the Ecolodge was amazing! The house itself is beautiful nestled on a hilltop surrounded by lush greenery. The pictures definitely don't do it justice. Its the best place to relax and get away from everything. It was amazing going to sleep with the sounds of the forest and waking up with birds chirping. There is a great lookout which is perfect for yoga (mats are available in the house). There are lots of trails to enjoy nearby including one that takes you to a beautiful waterfall/river. We really enjoyed our time here! Gersan is awesome! He was able to help us tremendously during our visit and is very resourceful. Just a quick note that its crucial to rent a 4X4 to get up the hill. There is no way to get otherwise.

  • This house is incredible . My only complaint is that I wish we stayed longer . The pool is greet ... Don't worry about it not being beach front because it's 10 minute drive from the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen . Take the hosts reccomendations they are fantastic ! Gave us the alternate entrance to playa tortuga and we had the beautiful beach to ourselves . Gersan is a great help his mangrove tour sounded amazing but just didn't have the time . Amazing experience ! No complaints !

  • This place is amazing. We had such a great time there. The house itself is an architectural gem. Its location is stunning. The view of the mountains, valleys, sky, clouds, and ocean is never failing but ever changing beauty. I couldn't sleep in the morning, partly because sunrise came early, but mostly because I didn't want to miss the view from the bedroom window. Gersan served well as our on-site host. We really appreciated the dinner prepared and served by Gersan and Ilya the day of our arrival. The boat ride with Gersan to his private beach was a real treat, and we were totally blown away when he served us a hot lunch on the beach. The papers that Joe & Kika lovingly prepared are above and beyond anything I have ever seen from an airbnb host and added immeasurably to our experience. This was our first visit to Costa Rica; it will not be our last. I hope to visit Pura Vida Ecolodge again.

  • Place is amazing for the nature and the view is breath taking... it really is... sounds of the birds at morning and looking a storm coming and going was a pleasure. Ariving is easy folowing the directions and 4x4 car recomended. House is very clean and I felt I could live there... Communication was great and easy arrival. You need to prepare the day to go out and just come back at the end of the day for relaxing... Local market is ok at Coronado, better is close to Uvita with good selection. I recomend Sibu cafe at Bahia Ballena for excelent Ristretto and food. If you want to cook local fresh fish market at the way to Tortuga beach. I definetelly recomend staying here!!! Pura Vida!

  • A fantastic retreat right in the middle of nature, perfectly equipped, tidy and lovely arranged. The boat tour was a real experience and brought us to an amazing beach. Both Joe as well as his local contact were of great help during our stay, especially when we had a break-down with our car.

  • I do not even know where to start. Let me start by saying that the Ecolodge is beautiful! Breathtaking! Joe, Kika, and Gerzan were so wonderful. They were very helpful, accommodating, and welcoming. When making the reservations, Kika and Joe were very informative and helpful. They always responded very quickly and politely. The suggestion to rent a 4x4 was very accurate. You must get a 4x4! I cannot imagine driving a sedan up the (extremely) bumpy and winding mountain (more about the roads later). You may think the pictures are perfection but they do not compare the real-life experience. The Ecolodge decoration and ambience make you feel at peace and relaxed. Yoga pads and games are available. But all you need is the amazing view. I woke up every morning at 6am to enjoy the thick clouds and beautiful misty mountains. Every night we sat outside in the dark and appreciated the lightening. The insects and animals chirping were unforgettable. We saw many insects, frogs, and spiders. In fact, we all slept upstairs after finding a HUGE spider. It was a classic horror scene. However, even that experience was fun! Gerzan is soooo wonderful. An amazing housekeeper and host. He was very patient and willing to help us with anything we needed. We got extremely lost and arrived late. He waited and came out to find us in the dark. He answered our calls and (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) messages very quickly. My best friend secretly arranged to have a private horseback ride with Gerzan and a local horse keeper. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! The ride lead to a waterfall which you can swim and relax. Blissful! The ride was amazing—a true adventure. She also secretly arranged to have Gerzan and his wonderful wife cook me a birthday dinner and cocktails. They personally delivered the food and set the dinner table. The presentation was lovely. The drive to Tres Rios was so fun. It was an adventure for sure. If driving from San Jose, leave early and arrive before 4pm. I had a great time driving up and down the mountain. Get ready for a ride! There are two grocery shops on the main road. Make sure you check the expiration dates. Most of our food was expired. We did not realize until we began cooking. Gas station was 24/7 which was nice. All together my experience was one of the best I have had. I will certainly be back and I cannot wait!!

  • The Pura Vida ecolodge is exactly what is promised and Joe and Kika are great hosts. The house is gorgeous and the location is remote! Seriously, make sure you rented a 4x4 to go here because you are on top of the world in this amazing location.

  • We brought our family (kids 9 and 6) to the Ecolodge for our first international vacation. We fell in love with it. In the morning as the sun rose we opened up the four large sliding doors to let the rainforest in and watched the mist rise from the hills below. We made coffee in the bamboo chorreador and sat on the deck where we listened to the rainforest wake up. The first day we could see howler monkeys, hummingbirds, and a couple of toucans that stayed with us on our last days. When it is raining you can sit in the front and stay completely dry in anything but the strongest storms. The family enjoyed the infinity pool and really enjoyed swimming below the waterfalls a short walk away. Our first night I woke up at midnight and walked outside to experience the Milky Way for the first time. Gersan is the caretaker if there are any problems during the stay and he offers a great boat tour of the mangrove wildlife and a visit to Playa Garza. Iliana, his wife, is an outstanding cook and prepared a delicious birthday meal during our stay. They have a daughter and seeing the three kids playing together on the beach was a sweet moment. The owners checked in with us throughout the week to ensure everything was running smoothly and that we were enjoying ourselves. The care they had for our happiness was appreciated. The Ecolodge was the perfect home base as we ate at the local soda (more amazing local food), shopped at the pulperia (grocery store), flew over the canopies on ziplines, and visited the amazing local beaches. Thank you for sharing paradise with us.

Stay in a cozy 1 BR or 2 BR, upscale Costa Rican-style bungalows with a pristine pool at your doorstep. Look out over the trees to the Pacific ocean from your private balcony and listen to the birds and howler monkeys that call the gardens of Casa Tranquila home.
This one-bedroom architect-designed bungalow comes fully equipped for short stays and month-long getaways. It's perfect for honeymooners or families with up to two kids, as well as small groups of friends. The kitchenette has everything you'll need to eat at home if you wish. The bungalow has a comfy bed, air conditioning throughout, a daybed that fits two people in the living space. The bathroom has a huge glassed-in shower with a big window to the gardens, where monkeys pass regularly. Just outside your door is a cool swimming pool and wooden deck for relaxing, as well as plenty of hammocks. Casa Tranquila was designed with sustainability in mind. The property takes advantage of sea breezes for passive cooling, minimizing the need for A/C. The gray water from your bungalow feeds into the trees and other plants that surround the property instead of washing into the ocean.
Casa Tranquila is located on a hill in a quiet, residential neighborhood of Tamarindo – far enough from the busy downtown that you won't be kept awake by the parties but close enough that you're just a 10 minute walk away from the center of town or 14 minutes to the beach.
  • Jose was very welcoming and helped me book everything before hand including the airport shuttle. Casa Tranquila was gorgeous and definitely would recommend it to a group of friends who want to have their own retreat away from it all. The pool right outside my bungalow was divine and keyless access to the place made a huge difference (because the less you have to leave with when walking out the door the better).

    Danny2014-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay very much. The place was exactly as described and was exactly what we were looking for.

    Brooke2014-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Jose was a great host, very friendly and approachable. He always took the time to talk to us and answer any questions we had. He gave us great tips for sightseeing for our drive back to San Jose's Airport. The listing description is accurate, the house is a bit smaller than we thought but that did not matter. The A/C is installed in the main bedroom and only cools down that area. The house had a few bugs when we got there, like ants, lizards and one scorpion but it was not too much and after moving in there were no more scorpion sightings. We loved having a pool right there. The garden is lovely and we did see howler monkeys. Jose has three dogs. They are pretty big but very nice and friendly. Our daughters loved to play with them. Jose let us use his washer and dryer which was great because we ran out of clothes due to the warm/humid climate. The toilet can be tricky at times, but that seems to be a general problem in Costa Rica. You just have to make sure to really flush. The house is in a newer area of Tamarindo and you have to drive on a gravel road for a bit and go up a somewhat steep hill to get there. We walked to town once and found a great short-cut to avoid the hill. My husband and I found great running roads that lead us straight to the beach and they were not too busy. Tamarindo is a great little town that offers a lot of restaurants and stores. You can book all the tours from there (I recommend "Bambora/Native's Way" at the beginning of the gravel road - ask for Andres.) And you can enjoy eating at the beach. In order to get the more authentic feel of Costa Rica I would venture out a bit and find Sodas (small restaurants). Overall we had an amazing time at Casa Tranquila and I would highly recommend it.

    Harriet2014-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Jose made us feel very welcome and gave us all the info we needed to get there. He responded very fast to questions and requests, and was always so helpful and friendly in giving advice and helping us when we needed it. Jose is a fantastic host overall and I would recommend staying here 100%. The place is perfect. A little ways out of town, so a short walk each day to the beach, or a $4 taxi ride. Very quiet, private, and peaceful. The photos are accurate and the bungalows are cozy and comfortable and have everything you need. The supermarket is a short walk away. We found it the ideal place to stay for our 2 weeks in Tamarindo.

    Krista2015-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great house and pool! Jose and his family were very friendly and the house is easy to find. We felt a little more like locals in this very touristy town. We were also fortunate enough to have howler monkeys passing through while we stayed. There's nothing like swimming in a pool with monkeys playing above you!

  • we stayed 3 Nights at Joses Place. This little Bungalow is so wonderful, cozy, and clean. The kitchen is perfect, there is everything you need for doing your own coffe and breakfast in the morning. The Little Veranda was perfect to sit in the evening to drink a glass of wine and listen to the "jungel" noises. The walking distance to the bars and restaurants is just 5-10 Min., we felt really safe. Joses Dog is the lovliest Dog ever and he joined us in the evening on the veranda and sayd hello in the Morning. Thank you for this great stay at your Place Jose and we would recommend it to everybody who likes a quite Place but close to the center and beach. Every Time again!

  • I stayed here in February 2013 and again in February 2014. It really is such a tranquil setting. Plants, flowers, (some wildlife), and a terrific swimming pool with a couple of hammocks… perfecto! With a cool breeze at night, a chill pool during the day and a short walk to town, Casa Tranquila has everything I need to kick back and relax. José and Erin are terrific… very friendly and always helpful.

    Brian2014-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. We have been here 4 days during rainy season in August. Weather was sunny to cloudy most o the time. Beautiful garden with lots of animals to see and a refreshing pool. Loved to sit on the front porch in the evening. Rooms were spacious enough for our family of 3 and nicely equipped and decorated. Felt very safe there, family dog guarded us well. We had a nice contact with Ally, the contact with Jose via email was easy. Didn't need anything special though.

Experience Costa Rica in this zen-like modern home surrounded by 40-acres of tropical forest, across from one of the most beautiful palm-lined beaches in Costa Rica! Watch toucans and many other exotic birds from the deck, or take a nature tour around the spring-fed lake, that is home to the famous Basilisk or 'Jesus Christ' lizard, as well as turtles, tiger-throated herons, and spectacled caiman. The property is centrally located close to markets, restaurants, and national parks. Pura Vida!
Nestled on a hill off the Costanera, this modern home appeals to those who appreciate nature and simple design. Although the home is built with exposed concrete and has a minimalist feel, it is surrounded by natural landscaping and has magnificent views of the surrounding area. The home has an open floor-plan consisting of the living room, dining room, and kitchen upstairs, which leads to a private deck. Downstairs is the laundry and guest bathroom, which connects to the outdoor shower area and three bedrooms.
Playa Bejuco is home to one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica! It is perfect for surfing, horseback riding, or simply enjoying one of the most awe-inspiring sunsets you've ever seen. There are some great restaurants within a mile from the property and many others in the towns of Jaco, Quepos, and Manuel Antonio. We are always happy to recommend our favorites!
  • Rosie and Bruno's place is located just off a major route on a peaceful farm property. Close to beautiful stretches of beach. We had a very nice stay!

    Heather2017-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • I was unsure about how this was going to work out. But the reviews really do not lie. And Rosie and Bruno were beyond amazing. The house, pool, outdoor shower was just beautiful. And the transportation Rosie and Bruno gave was just what made this trip worth wild. This is a most stay. Could not have had it any better. No matter what I needed or when I needed it and with much confusion at first Rosie was more than accommodating. And the sweetest. Don't look any further and stay here you won't regret it.

    Sasha2016-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • Rosie's house is BEAUTIFUL and just as pictured - very clean and modern. We only stayed in Esterillos for two nights, so we kept saying how we just wanted to stay longer thanks to the beautiful house and property. The house is equipped with everything you could need or want and then some. Rosie was very communicative and even called us down to see a sloth since she knew our daughters wanted to see one up close.

    Kim2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Rosie's. She and her Husband were helpful and the place was a great!

    Joel2016-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • I can't say enough about how awesome Los Laureles was. Rosie and Bruno were so accommodating and helpful throughout the week. The house was AMAZING! So beautiful and so so peaceful. It's even nicer than the pictures! The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you would need, there's a washer and dryer in the house and they provide fresh sheets and towels which was great! The house was much larger than we thought it would be, and very clean. The pool was great to come home to and was kept very clean. The deck was my favorite part! My husband and I laid on the lawn chairs and watched the stars at night and watched toucans off the deck during the day. I really can't say enough about the house or the area in general. The property was beautiful and so well kept. It was so peaceful and felt secluded but it was so close to nightlife and restaurants and the beautiful beach. All of our excursions were only 15 minutes to an hour away! The first day we explored the property, which was an adventure in itself! They have fresh fruits and veggies growing on the property - star fruit, bananas and much more. We saw sloths, cayman, turtles, toucans and lizards and got to enjoy fresh coconut water, which Bruno cut down and gave to us! On the second day we explored Playa Bejuco at low tide. We walked through the mangroves and collected shells. Afterwards, we went to lunch at Hotel Pelicano - food was amazing and steps away from beach. We swam in the ocean for a bit and saw lots of mana rays! Throughout the rest of the trip, we went zip lining with Canapy Safari in Quepos (awesome,) horseback riding to the Nauyaca waterfalls (definitely recommend) and visited Rainmaker and Manuel Antonio (both so amazing.) Rosie was so helpful in booking excursions for us and also gave us advice on where to go/what times to visit. We did go kayaking through the mangroves with Damas Kayak Tours, which I booked on my own. It was cool, but I wish I would have asked Rosie prior to booking because I think the tours she was familiar with would have been better:) We will definitely be visiting Los Laureles in the future. It was an amazing experience and I highly recommend! Perfect honeymoon spot, but it would also be great for a family vacay or just a nice getaway!

    Amy2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Rosie's place was the best! The drive from the airport was surprisingly easy, I'm glad she recommended getting a hot spot because we had no issues at all. Esterillos is a very cute town and the city center had several good restaurants and a fairly large grocery store. The house is beautiful! There were two sloths in a tree behind the house for our entire stay! The swimming pool was nice to relax after visiting the beach and the outdoor shower was lovely. Rosie even scheduled an ATV tour and ziplining for us (the ATV tour was definitely my favorite part of the trip)! Don't hesitate at all about booking here, it's amazing!

    Adriana 2016-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • We felt like home at this place and got welcomed by Bruno (Rosie's husband) who was happy to show is around and make us feel comfortable. The house was like on the pictures and permits to live an authentic and safe experience in Costa Rica. We enjoyed very much the organic garden, Bruno's amazing surf lessons and the horse tour where Rosie joined us for the whole day ;) For us, Rosie and Bruno were exactly creating the experience that airbnb is about: discovering a new place, feeling safe and comfortable and meeting great people . We could definitely tell that they love hosting people. We will definitely come back! Pura vida!

    Kerstin2016-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a dream and the pictures are exactly what you get! Great, private, location with a ton of popular visiting spots close by. Rosie was quick to answer any questions my boyfriend and I had and was extremely helpful with offering recommendations of places to visit and restaurants to eat at. I would highly recommend this zen retreat to couples, or groups, looking for a nice spot that's perfect for relaxation or adventure!

The Tree House is hand-crafted, one of 3 casitas and 2 treehouses at the Bio Thermales natural resort organically integrated into our 35 acre rainforest. Guests enjoy free 24 hour access to the 12 natural hot and cool springs pools of various temperatures and rainforest trails. 45 minute drive from La Fortuna and Volcano Arenal, 3 hour drive from the SJO airport, 4 hour drive from Liberia airport.
Please message us if we will be your first or last destination in Costa Rica. We highly recommend booking on weekdays for more privacy and tranquility, as we have more day visitors from 9 am to 6 pm to our hot springs on the weekends, especially Sundays. If your reservation includes a Sunday, we highly recommend planning a day outing to the many wonderful nearby activities. We are three hours north of San Jose (airport), 45 minutes east of Fortuna and Volcano Arenal, and the many activities there and nearby. Guests enjoy 24/day access* to our hot springs and trails in our 35 acre rainforest at no extra charge. The pools are cleaned every morning starting at 6 am, but one hot spring will always be available. Many factors may dictate scheduling, including weather. We do not charge for children 17 and under -- but we will not accept reservations for the Tree House for families with children under 5 years old for whom a 20 foot fall from the balcony would be very serious. Our hot springs are ancient “deep Earth” sources that bubble up through the rainforest floor, laden with mineral-rich waters that have been in the Earth for at least 10,000 years. Our waters are rich in bicarbonates, calcium and magnesium, low in sulfur, and slightly acidic -- qualities shared by many of the world's best hot springs. Five of our 9 organic form hot springs pools are located in the rainforest, and 4 hot springs pools as well as a small and a large cool spring swimming pool are located in a meadow, surrounded by rainforest (see below for more information). The small and large cool springs pools both have water slides, and there is a small water slide in one of the shallow and moderate temperature pools for small children. The Tree House is built to strict Costa Rican building codes, but as with all tree houses, there is some movement when the wind blows, and this could be uncomfortable for people very sensitive to motion sickness. We are a 45 minute drive from the many activities in Fortuna and Volcano Arenal -- such as ziplines, hanging bridges, white water rafting, slow river floats or kayaking through wildlife sanctuaries -- or a 1.5 hour drive to La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Volcano Poas. Bio Thermales Hot Springs is open to the public for day use of the hot springs, and most of our day visitors are Costa Ricans, so you may also meet new Tico friends. Bio Thermales is generally not crowded, however, except on major holidays and Sundays. Food/Meals: The Tree House has a kitchen. There are many restaurants and a good supermarket within a 15 minute drive. Traditional Costa Rican meals can be delivered from a local caterer for very reasonable prices (Costa Rican food is tasty but not spicy). Otherwise, for those without cars, we can call a taxi or synchronize a food shopping trip when we go to town for errands. Driving from SJO airport: Please message us before booking if we are your first and/or last destination in Costa Rica. We recommend at least a small 4 wheel drive car. The last 3 kilometers are country roads. Three hours of daylight are needed to safely drive here from the SJO airport before sunset at 5:30 pm. The drive through mountainous cloud forests is splendid in daylight, but prone to fog and rain, especially at night, creating hazardous visibility conditions after dark. Finding our countryside location will also be far easier if you arrive the first time before sunset. If your plane lands in the morning to noon, you can drive here directly from the airport. Otherwise, it is safer to book a room near the airport on your first night, or ask us to book a private driver ($145) and have a rental car delivered at no extra charge. Last night in Costa Rica: Driving directly to the SJO airport on the same day is possible if you book a flight in the afternoon. Please be aware that you must be at the airport 2.5 hours before departure. If you have an early morning departing flight it is basically necessary to stay near the airport on the night before.
We are in the countryside in a non-touristy rural area of family farms, orchards and rainforest, off the beaten tourist track. The last 2 km are unpaved country roads. Guests should expect a natural environment, integrated into the rainforest, with the usual wildlife native to a tropical rainforest (except there are no large jungle cats like jaguars). We are a 45 minute drive from the many activities in Fortuna/Volcano Arenal, including volcano hikes, ziplines, swimming in the pristine waters below the La Fortuna Waterfall, white water rafting and slow "safari float" rafting to see monkeys, sloths and other animals. Closer to us is a slow river raft tour, rainforest hikes or horseback riding, and a visit to the Iguana Bridge with many large iguanas within a 15 minute drive.
  • WOW, what an amazing place! Add Biothermales to your bucket list. I wish we had stayed longer! The hosts designed the Biosphere in Arizona - no wonder this place is so cool! From the magnificent pools with natural rock to the great trails to the amazing tree houses & bungalows, this entire facility was a labor of love. Kathy is amazing at sending over information about how to get there, as well as helpful information about food, local activities, what to pack, tips on renting a car (honestly the hardest part of staying in CR and the most expensive!), etc. We stayed at 4 different places in CR and Kathy was the most informative and responsive of all of the hosts. We rented a car from Vamos because we had a coupon for a free GPS and it was about $400 cheaper than Adobe (but Adobe would have probably been "safer" since there are more locations & they have newer cars). Thank goodness - the GPS had Biothemales as a location so we had *no* problem finding the place. There are also a lot of signs for Biothemales on the dirt road, but definitely get there before sundown (around 5:30 pm) and try to stop at Su Casa (a big grocery store) *before* you go in because you will not want to run out for snacks/milk/booze often once you are in. They have snacks you can buy in case of emergency. Make sure to use the bathroom as soon as you get settled because once you get in, the tour of the facility that will take about 1 hour. Kathy will have you test the temperature of the water, show you the grounds, read through the house rules, and tell you about which animals to avoid (hint: All of them. Don't pet the wildlife. Except for Peppy, their dog!) We went during the week so we had almost all of the pools to ourselves. Some of the pools are open 24-hours so it was nice to drink rum punch at night and look at the stars. We were two couples, so there was plenty of room. Hot Tip: Hang some clothes on the side rail so you don't catch each other changing clothing. It is very moist (duh, RAINforest) so don't be surprised if you end up smelling like a fish tank. They are gracious enough to do your laundry for $5 per load & give you fresh towels any time. We ordered breakfast once and didn't do it again because while the caterer was VERY sweet, her assistant forgot to deliver us food and it was cold - I'm sure it was a freak accident, so if it is a rainy day, for sure order food from her instead of venturing out. We preferred to eat at the many local sodas. We did not do any cooking because the kitchen is a bit small but there was a billion outdoor BBQs if you know how to grill. We'll be...

  • Totally stunning property. Great, lovely, friendly hosts. Kathy was super helpful for all aspects of our trip to Costa Rica, including parts not at Bio Thermales. Both the mariposa casitas and the treehouse were amazing. We had a great time hanging out with the owners and other guests late into the evening. The hot polls were so nice. I hope to come back here one day. I was travelling with my seven year old and she adored it as well

  • Biotbermales could be one of those Costa Rican best kept secrets. The tree house was immaculate, as were the pools. Bernie and Kathy were extremely forthcoming with any recommendations we needed - car rental agencies, the nearest grocery store, local attractions like the Iguana Cafe, paths for a morning hike- and are incredibly warm and friendly hosts. Directions to Biothermales were easy to follow, and we used Kathy's tips for CR newcomers throughout our trip. I'd definitely like to come back and spend more time at Biothermales.

    Rene2014-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Kathy and Bernie were wonderful! Kathy was so helpful with questions I had while still in America, and once we were in Costa Rica. The tree house is gorgeous as well as the grounds. Also the mineral pools were better than we expected. If you can get a reservation don't miss it!

    Michelle2015-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • Two friends and I stayed in the treehouse for two nights this week, and we had a fantastic time. Definitely a terrific choice if you want to stay off of the beaten path a bit but still be within driving distance (45 min) to the Arenal activities. The staff at Bio Thermales , where the house is located, were lovely and incredibly helpful.

    Kirsten2013-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the tree house was very nice. It was exactly as described.

    Jonathan and Sara2015-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • We very much enjoyed staying at the tree house. It had a great view to the rain forest. We loved having coffee in the morning and looking up to 5 different iguanas sitting in the tree. One of our favorite moments staying in the tree house was Kathy and Bernie's dog, Pepe. He was very friendly and actually led us on an hour hike through the rainforest. The grounds were beautiful and it was wonderful to relax in all the thermal baths. We definitely would return! One thing I did not know was that there are other beautiful cabins on the grounds (beyond the treehouse), so if the tree house is not available, take a look at the cabins.

    Tamra2015-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time in the tree house and enjoyed every minute. The house has everything you need and you could even cook in the kitchen. We loved the tranquility, the sounds of the rainforest and the hot springs pools, especially those in the forest behind the house. Johan was very friendly and helpful - unfortunately we did not meet Kathy and Bernie. The Costa Rican dinner and breakfast from the neighbor were delicious!

Cabina Blanca - tucked away at the top of a gated community with lovely views of the Pacific ocean, the beach a short walk and the towns of Tamarindo and Flamingo only 25 min. away. Roomy, queen bed, private patio.
This space is a completely self contained guest house, about 15 feet away from the main house. With an abundance of natural light, this unique oasis is cozy and inviting with high ceilings. Although not air conditioned, the cabina enjoys an elevated position on the site and is orientated to take advantage of breezes. In the room, there are ceiling and pedestal fans.
We feel very safe in our gated community, tucked away from the "hustle and bustle" of some of the nearby towns, but still close enough to enjoy all the area has to offer. This relaxing atmosphere is great for bird watching and animal visitors, walks or just enjoying the pool. We are central to enjoy all the coast has to offer with 13+ beaches within less than one hour drive. Matapolo is the closest town to us. It is a 5 minute drive away and has a couple of restaurants and grocery stores. Tamarindo is 25 mins south of us and Flamingo is 25 mins north. Both are an easy drive for taking in the restaurants, shops and services.
  • Tim was a great host and the place is terrific ! Located into a remote area with access to the most beautiful beaches (2 minutes drive or 10 walking). The cabina is great and everything you need is there for a short stay or long with no cooking (except toast, coffee and light lunch). We will go back there for sure! Thank you Tim!

    Eric2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, comfortable and great hosts. Tim and Kim are super friendly. I would go back anytime.

    Philippe2014-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Place is very secluded but only a 10 minute walk to a beautiful, private beach. A 20 or 30 minute walk will get you to the westin which has a more touristy scene and activities. If you go there, find Big Momma (Melania) outside of the Westin who cooks the best and freshest lobster and red snapper.

    David2017-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • We loved how private the little place is; it was neat having the upper deck area to climb up to and see the sights from above. The roads leading to it definitely need all-wheel drive or 4x4 during the rainy season as some of the areas in the road were flooded when it rained, so just something to keep in mind for trip planning. It was nice to be able to walk to the beach of Playa Conchal; it took about fifteen minutes for us at a leisurely pace. They let you swim in the pool but we honestly didn't end up using it because the beach was so close and we were too busy exploring the area!

    Andrew2017-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Tim and Kim were excellent hosts! The cabina was nice and clean and quaint and the rooftop patio with the hammock was great! I actually ended up sleeping in the hammock outside, which I would highly recommend! The outdoor shower was definitely an added bonus. After a long day at the beach, it was nice to cool and rinse off in the shower outside, rather than tracking all of the sand inside. Tim and kim are super accommodating and I would highly recommend them as hosts! And seriously, try kim's homemade ice cream, the coconut lime is made with coconut milk (so it'svegan!) and it was SO GOOD!

    Amanda2017-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great little home on top of a hill, everything you need, nothing you don't. Amazing views with the rooftop porch and hammock. Extremely close to several beach pull offs.

    Eric2017-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • The surroundings, the nature and the animals was surreal. Super nice place and the best hosts you can get.

    Robin 2016-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • Kim and tim's place was lovely from start to finish. They gave great instructions for getting there. The place was lovely and clean and a ten minute walk from a beautiful beach. The roof top patio can't be beat. Across the street from a nice restaurant with a great view. Highly recommend

Our amazing, unique piece of Coastal Paradise is a canopy level, open concept fully equipped LOFT with an incredible Ocean breeze & 1 of the most spectacular sunrises along the Pacific Coast! Our little piece of paradise is a peaceful getaway to relax & enjoy the magic of CR! Just steps from the beach, surf & tide pools on beautiful Canada Hill. Enjoy watching Parrots and Scarlet Macaws fly by from either your 4" Memory Foam KING BED or super comfy reclining chairs on the over sized balcony!
Enjoy waking up with the best view of the morning sunrise from either your MEMORY 4" FOAM KING BED (with high end Linens & Towels) or gaze out to the Pacific Ocean below from our super comfortable reclining chairs on the large covered balcony. The loft truly has unique and memorable views of the Pacific Ocean, southern coastline all the way to Manual Antonio as well as the surrounding wildlife and jungle. Our Tree house Loft is open concept, allowing the sea breeze to flow through all the time. Our kitchen has a pretty awesome view, some have said "its the best view they have ever had while cooking"! Enjoy the fastest WIFI in the country, Cable TV with a large flat screen TV or watching macaws fly by daily from your hammock! Less than a 2 minute walk to the beach where you can surf or boogie, snorkel in the tide pools (during Low Tide) and or walk the pristine sandy beach. If you are not interested in cooking, there is one of the best restaurants in the entire country Los Almendros which offers guests Caribbean, Typical Costa Rican and Asian flavors as well as local craft beer!
Our little piece of paradise is located atop of Canada Hill, a very peaceful and quite area. Still it is only a few minutes from the centre of town and a 2 minute walk to the beach!
  • If you're looking for party city, go elsewhere. If you are looking for seclusion and peacefulness and a beautiful view, come here. This unit is on the second floor of a two unit. View is spectacular of the ocean and surrounding area. Great porch, with comfy recliners and hammocks. Come and veg. Walk down to the ocean and enjoy a peaceful, mainly secluded beach. A few bars around and a local little quick-stop type shop, but there is a kitchen you can use in the place and fridge. Roads off the main highway are bumpy and steep. Get a 4 wheel drive. Walk down to the beach is not too far, but the trek up is all uphill and pay attention to how you get down, because it is easy to get misdirected. But Justin is always available for anything you need, so just call him. You won't be disappointed if you want to come and enjoy a peaceful, beautiful place where you can hang of the deck and read, zen, nap, or just enjoy a cup of coffee watching the sun rise. If you want to party, go to Jaco.

  • Good place! Does get hot but Justin set up everything for us could not ask for a more helpful host

    Kimberly2017-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, tree-top apartment. The views are stunning, even in a rainstorm. Keep all the windows open and crank the fans for the best night's sleep. Los Almendros down the road has delicious food and Justin is the friendliest, most helpful host you'll ever encounter. Enjoy your stay!

  • My recent trip to Costa Rica was the best vacation I've ever been on. My boyfriend and I stayed with Justin, Jessica, Kole & Ava for 12 days and had a sensational time. The treehouse is beautiful, the beaches are beautiful, and the surrounding trees and animals amaze you with something new everyday. Not only did Justin and Jessica go above and beyond for our every whim, but their friends and family in Esterillos welcomed us warmly. Vivian, their housekeeper, is lovely- and she provides amenities like breakfast and laundry (which was a great surprise when we ran out of clean clothes almost immediately)...Justin (and Brett) helped us book our motorcycle rental and trips like waterfall repelling, horseback riding, zip lining, and fishing with no hesitation. It was a genuine pleasure to stay with you all and we can't wait to come back.

    Lydia2016-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Only one word fits the description.. Paradise! Best place I have stayed in Costa Rica. The villa is so amazing. The view, the house, the garden. We saw sooo many birds, even a precious hour glass tree frog come to visit us one evening. The hammocks ♡ Sleeping with the sound of the waves. We stayed for 5 days but I didn't wanted to leave. And if that is not already enough, Justin and Jessica are amazing hosts. They will make sure you have everything you need. Amazing stay guys! Thank you so much

    Marie-Louise2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • First off, what an amazing view! Waking up everyday to a panoramic view of the coast was just amazing! Justin also provided a great amount of very useful information (great restaurants, local guy who sells amazing ceviches, where to go, what to look out for, background/local information about Costa Rica, area to check out the macaws) We felt very secure and safe at his place. Privacy was provided when needed but Justin and his family were also very friendly and receptive to just hanging out with us. Mya, their dog, just STOLE OUR HEARTS! She made us feel protected and was just an amazingly well behaved and loving dog. We really had an amazing time thanks to Justin and his family and are already looking forward to the next time we get to visit again! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

    Steven2016-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect! Exactly what we were looking for...a local experience on a beautiful beach and close enough to Jaco for day tours and activities. Justin and his family are great host and made us feel welcome. We'll be back!

  • We had a fantastic stay at Casa David. We are a family of four and fit comfortably. We loved the location- close to many beautiful beaches, restaurants, but not in a noisy area. David was a great host! He was very friendly and we saw him around town often. He provided us with a handful of great recommendations on restaurants and activities in the area. We hope to be back soon!

    jennifer2017-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • David made us feel incredibly welcomed in his home. He gave us insight on the surrounding areas, great tips, and even made us dinner on the night of my birthday. He was incredibly detailed with any questions we posed, and was easily accessible--he lives in the studio attached. You can see that hospitality is a calling for him. We can't wait to come back in a couple years!

    Kayla2016-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully designed and crafted, Casa David is also conveniently located. The backyard space is great in the early morning and after sundown. There are several ceiling fans, but the house does get warm, so we really appreciated the AC.

  • Casa David was great, everything we could have hoped for. Great value!

    Edward2017-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Casa David was nothing short of magical. We adored the town of Nosara, and the location of the house is perfect. You're five minutes drive to your closest beach; 10 minute walk, many places to eat, shop, and be adventurous all in close proximity. The house itself is beautiful, with exciting architecture and engulfed in gorgeous landscape. David was an awesome host, helpful when need be, but not intrusive at all. Also, he just has a wonderful energy in general and is a pleasure to be around. I recommend this Airbnb to all my friends and family. We had the most wonderful vacation. Thank you David. PS: if you're up for it, rent ATVs for transportation, major key!

    Travis2016-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa David. The house is definitely the newest, nicest in the village. Nosara was absolutely charming and David's location is great. Walk to the beach, downtown, dinner, cocktails, there is a creperie and a new restaurant/boutique right next door, both were lovely. The house is modern and open and worked well for our family of four. The outside patio was our favorite part and we spent more time outside than in.

    Danielle2016-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • David made us feel very welcome, he gave us great advice on the local area and kept an immaculate home. We had an incredible visit and the website gives an accurate idea of the house and surrounding area. Thanks again David.

Full apartment, just five minutes walk to museums, National Theater, and central Market, you can also enjoy typical costarican food restaurants and coffee shops in the neighborhood . If you are going to the beach and volcanoes , it is located just 1 hour and 20 min. to Jaco Beach and fifty minutes to the Poás Volcano. You will love my place it has lots of light, a beautiful mountain view, comfortable bed and fully equipped kitchen. Perfect for couples, families on vacation. Self check in.
New!!... Studio apartment, with full size bed and a pull over couch for an extra guest, internet and cable tv. Ideal if you come for vacation, and want to make one day trips to the mountains or to the beach, its also perfect for your first or las nights in Costa Rica, so you can get the feeling of busy down town, or if you come for medical turism it is about 15 minute cab drive to most hospitals. Located on the 5th floor, there is elevator, it has a great view of the mountains to the north side of town, and its located very close to all main museums and attractions in the heart of San Jose.
The place is located in the heart of the city and there is much traffic and people around the neighborhood specially in week days. San José is a very busy city, it gets very crowded during the day and at night it is calm, you need to take this into consideration. Although we are a small country every day in San José more then one million people go through the city on transit to work , school or hospitals, many located in the great metropolitan area. The apartment is located near hotels, restaurants, parks and a five minute walk to all the museums (Gold, Jade, National, Art) . Like any city that you are getting to know you should never be over confident, when you arrive I will be more than happy to give you instructions so you can get around, and you can also find instructions right here if you read " Getting Around" (Guidebook). The place is just three blocks away from central avenue where you can find all the museums, restaurants and nice shops, it is a nice street walk!... There you can see the beautiful National Theater, on calle 2 , you will find the Mail Building, both are "most see" land marks in San José. You might want to go take a peak at the Hotel Costa Rica, which is the first hotel built in San Jose in the early 1900's, walk a bit west on second avenue and you will find the Cathedral and Central Park, on the right the beautiful Melico Salazar theater. You can also find very nice souvenir shops just a couple of blocks away. The Jade Museum, is a most if you like museums!!... It is within a 5 minute walk.
  • The apartment is a great size and complete with everything you might need for a comfortable stay! We wish we were able to stay longer to explore the area better but is located right in the hub of downtown San Jose. Marie was unable to meet us however her handyman was there to greet us and make sure everything was just right - an easy arrival and departure, he was very obliging... Oh and the bedding is super comfortable!!

    Whitney2015-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Marie's home was beautiful. I felt very safe in her apartment, and it is within walking distance of all the bus stations. Marie was also very patient and accepting when I had to make a last minute change in my itinerary, and stayed late to help me problem solve travel issues. Her apartment is as lovely as she is. Thanks Marie!

    Chelsea2015-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Very responsive and communicative host which made our stay so easy.  Maria's daughter lives in the same building and was very friendly in helping us get settled in.  Laundry facilities on site were great to have.  Apartment is really spacious and super clean.  Well stocked kitchen made cooking a delight while peering out over the San Jose skyline.  Maria was flexible on check in and check out which was perfect for us as our flight out of SJ wasn't until later in the evening.

    sandy2014-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great apartment and well located in the middle of San Jose. Smooth checkin and introduction. Was very helpful also to be able to use the washer! Some lovely snacks and coffee as well as juice :) overall a great stay and would recommend as a good base to start off your trip to Costa Rica!

    Louise2016-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • Marie was more than an excellent host. She not only met us late at night after our flight, she spoke to our taxi driver on the way to the apartment to make sure we were on the right track. And then walked us (left turn out of the buildings exit) into the main part of town - less than 5 minutes and showed us a great local eatery that was open at that time. A true San Jose experience. For the more adventurous turn right out of the buildings door and go down town - true street life - you'd best have your wits about you as it is "down town" - but I like that stuff. It's real. Also note that buildings don't have street numbers - directions are more like "50 meters South of hotel X" And so having a goat like Marie talk to your driver on the way is beyond helpful I highly recommend this host and her compact, clean, functional and safe apartment.

    Joseph2014-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Marie was a great host! Her apartment was clean, cute, and had all of the amenities - she even left some juice for us to drink in the morning. Additionally, it's well located if you're interested in checking out museums, the central market, and some great restaurants. I would recommend it to anyone.

    Becca2016-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Marie was a great host. Made checking in easy and convenient. Was very quick with her responses and helped make our stay as good as can be in San Jose. One note is that the unit smelled bad and was told it was a one time problem as the windows had been left open in the rain. May not affect you if you stay here afterwards but it did for us.

    James2016-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Although we never had the pleasure to meet her, Marie was a very accommodating host. She had someone meet us at the front door and show us the ropes. The apartment was very clean and lived up to all other previous positive comments. Marie was also very easy to get in touch with and responded quickly. We were only here for one evening but would definitely stay here again if ever back in San Jose. The city itself, we found difficult to navigate, but this did not detract in anyway from our Air B&B experience. Thanks Marie!

This one-of-a-kind wooden house is the essence of tropical living. Surrounded by 4 acres of private property, it is a perfect place to decompress when you first arrive in Costa Rica, or just before you go home. 30 minutes to airport.
The Rancho is the guest house on our property where we live full time in Atenas, Costa Rica. It is a tropical-style building constructed of beautiful tropical hardwoods. It has a central living/dining area, a 2nd floor bedroom w/double bed, a small kitchenette with mini-fridge, a microwave oven, a sink carved from one long piece of wood. The bathroom is unique: 20 ft. long, stone walls and floor, wood structure; the walls are black lava rock from Arenal Volcano, the floors smooth flagstone, there is a stone shower stall, and a bathtub carved out of one tree trunk. Unfortunately the bathtub needs extensive renovation and cannot be used at this time. A toilet, of course; modern plumbing fixtures throughout. It was built out over a little man-made lake, but changing climate patterns have dictated a much smaller water body, only full during the rainy season. The rest has been turned into garden. The property is a birders paradise. We have 4 acres (16,000 sq.m.) with many fruit trees, are surrounded on three sides by coffee farms. This is the real Costa Rica. And this is the perfect tropical getaway for a weekend, or an interlude in between beaches, tropical forests and other activities. The property is in the neighborhood of Alto Lopez, in Barrio San Jose Sur de Atenas, just 4 km or 10 minutes from Atenas centro. The neighborhood is very safe - everyone knows everyone else, and our property is totally secure. NOT a gated community! We are one hour from the central Pacific beach towns of Jaco and Puntarenas, 1.5 hours from Manuel Antonio National Park, 2 hours to Monte Verde Cloud Forest and 30 minutes from San Jose airport. PLEASE NOTE: The building IS NOT CHILD SAFE. I will not allow any child younger than 12 in the building. There are too many places where a child could literally fall out of the building.
Its real Costa Ricans (Tico's/Tica's.) Friendly and honest, the Ticos's consistently come out No. 1 on the World Happiness Quotient. To be expected from a county who's slogan is "pura vida" - pure life. There is a restaurant serving lunch and dinner a five minute walk from our place, and a little convenience store right on our street, 2 minutes away.
  • This was the second time my sister and I stayed in this lovely airbnb residence and the experience was just as pleasant as the previous time (if not more!). Jean and Al are absolutely wonderful hosts and are so incredibly accommodating to the needs of their guests. The bungalow allows you to experience the nature of Costa Rica, and gives you a real taste of the beautiful country. The property is just a $5 taxi ride from the center of downtown Attenas, or a 5 minute walk to the nearest resteraunt. However, once you step onto the property you will not want to leave! I would absolutely reccomend staying at this residence if you are lucky enough to get the chance.

  • My sister and I had the pleasure of staying in this lovely Costa Rican bungalow for one night before we left Costa Rica. Jean and Al made our stay absolutely wonderful! They delivered us a warm welcome, supplied delicious homemade granola and fresh fruit for breakfast, and helped us accommodate a ride to the airport. The Rancho at Ceilo Vanilla is even more charming than it looks in the pictures. My only regret is not staying in this slice of paradise longer!

  • Lovely stay at The Ranch. The property was absolutely stunning with a large tangerine tree in the back yard to accompany the local coffee Jean left us in the kitchen from the coffee farm next door. Perfect place if you are looking to enjoy a few peaceful nights in a tranquil scene with the sounds of nature and serenity of your thoughts and seclusion. Lovely hosts and property. Will definitely come again when I visit costa rica again someday.

  • This is a MUST do when in Costa Rica. My husband and I rented a car and drove all over the place and saved The Rancho in Atenas for our last day/night. Jean had been MORE than helpful prior to the trip answering my many questions I had and giving me great directions to their place (directions are difficult in CR when you're from the US lol.) When we pulled onto their property I was taken back by the beauty of the grounds and nature all around. The open air "tree house" looked just like the photos but even better. Jean was nice enough to leave us some breakfast, fruit, coffee & tea for in the morning which was great. I was worried about bugs during out sleep but we had no problems at all. It is in a very safe neighborhood with wonderful views all around. There is a nice mini fridge in the kitchen too for any extra things you might want to grab at the nearby store. This was truly the highlight of our trip, we are already sending some friends to stay here and we plan on being back next year! A very big THANK YOU to Jean and her husband for a wonderful FIRST Air BnB experience. The Rancho is truly unique and memorable. Pura Vida!

  • What a treat it was to stay in this beautiful place for the night. Jean and Al went above and beyond to make sure we had unmistakable directions and even arranged for a ride back to Jaco for us. We scheduled our stay incredibly last minute and they were so wonderful about it. The town was lively and beautiful. Their 4 acre property was incredible. My husband and I are HUGE animal lovers so Bruno the dog and their sweet lone duck were a big part of our stay. The only thing that could have made it better is if Bruno could have spent our entire visit right by our side (sweet sweet older dog who reminds us of our own. He is strictly an outside dog that stays on a runner lead in the yard. He, of course, lives in paradise and prides himself on looking after his beautiful home, but being the crazy American dog parents that we are, we still just wanted to bring him inside and snuggle him ) We highly recommend this place! We had a little speaker with music for the night. The sweet duck sleeps on the roof just above you so don't be alarmed when you hear her! But if you are a light sleeper music might be helpful!

  • Amazing place! A short ride away into the quaint town center of Atenas. Only sorry I couldn't stay longer. Hope to be back soon.

  • Jean and Al were by far the most kind, helpful, and sincere hosts we have had traveling abroad and on Airbnb. Their property is gorgeous and The Rancho is everything you could want for a weekend retreat in Costa Ricas best climate. The Rancho itself is amazingly crafted and set nicely by a pond to sit out by in the morning. Highly recommended. A rental car is very useful to have since most activities are a short drive away. As a side note: Al is a FANTASTIC artist and we were honored to see his studio. We plan on reaching out to him in the future for paintings for our home!

    Tommy2015-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful. Relaxing. Pura Vida. We stayed here the first night of our honeymoon. We were exhausted and this was the perfect little rest stop. We enjoyed our stay so very much. Jean and Al are delightful and helpful. Heed their advice and get there before dark. Driving there is an adventure in and of itself, one best done in daylight. I would stay again in a heartbeat.

Stay in the middle of the rainforest with its abundant wildlife, in your own comfortable house. Just minutes from little fishermanvillage of Manzanillo (with small shops and restaurants) and the caribbean sea with its picture perfect beaches
Fascinating jungle experience in the middle of the Caribbean rainforest of Costa Rica! Our distinguished lodge on 16+ acres of private property is situated in the Gandoca Manzanillo wildlife refuge, with the beautiful Caribbean sea less then a mile away. You will stay in one of our comfortable, fully equipped houses on stilts. Experience the jungle like never before. Have the monkeys waiting outside your window as you wake up to the sounds of tropical birds singing (more than 100 species counted on our property). There are sloths, nosebears, other mammals, frogs, and so much more… Relax in the Costa Rican rain forest, drinking a good bottle of wine on your jungle porch. Have a massage, walk our private nature tracks or relax at the creek that runs through the property. Go on one of the many excursions we can arrange for you. Visit the picture perfect & quiet Caribbean beaches just a few minutes away! Venture into Cahuita National park or the Gandoca Manzanillo wildlife refuge. Enjoy a night out in the bustling beach town of Puerto Viejo (9 miles away). But most of all look forward to waking up in a jungle paradise that seems to have been created especially for you… El Arbol (the tree) is the creation of Jan Hein (designer and creator of the lodge) and Marjolein (counsellor and international marketer) from the Netherlands. We want to offer our guests comfort while at the same time they are being totally immerged in nature. The idea is to offer guests a pure, private and personal experience. We are nature lovers ourselves and we would like to show you and your loved ones nature as it can still be found on this planet. Enjoy nature without compromising on comfort. We believe that the natural beauty in the lay of the land is best left as it is, especially if one of your goals is seeing animals. This theory is proven by the abundant wildlife that visits our 16+ acre property every day. We continue to let nature work her magic. Landscaping is done only around houses and common areas. We have a natural path through our rainforest that we keep clean and accessible; the rest of the jungle remains untouched. Outdoor lighting is romantic but restricted to what is necessary for orientation, safety & security. El Árbol philosophy: Our philosophy is to create a unique and personalized jungle experience in the midst of complete comfort. Feel the mental and physical wellbeing that nature provides. We also place extra emphasis on being eco friendly and globally conscious. You as our guest take part in this process as 5% of your lodging fees will be donated to local charities. The houses are designed with style, the immediate environment, comfort and safety in mind. Our houses are beautifully and interestingly designed. They are built on poles so you have the feeling you you are living and sleeping in the treetops and have round shapes, rich colors and exciting features. Every house has its own jacuzzi from which you can see the jungle and its wildlife. The houses have a fully equipped kitchen, master bedroom, large living room with an extra sleeping sofa/bed, luxury bathroom, safe and all beds have the best orthopedic mattresses with good quality mosquito nets. Because of their design and the protection from the rainforest's canopy, the houses have a comfortable, cool climate. The houses have glass windows to keep insects out, although it would amaze you how many days and nights you will sit outside on your porch without being bothered by any of these little creatures to fully enjoy the sounds of the jungle. The houses are cleaned for you 2 times a week. Its an amazing experience, don't miss it. we hope to may welcome you, if the dates you want to stay are booked at this calendar , please look at our other airbnb listing as we have 2 equal houses for rent :)
  • El Arbol was the last stop on our 2-week honeymoon, and it could not have been a better experience. Marilyn was always available to make sure we were comfortable and had some great suggestions for local attractions. The jungle house was, of course, amazing. I think it was the closest thing you can get to living directly in the jungle without compromising on creature comforts like plumbing and a giant comfy bed. Our favorite parts of El Arbol were the porch, the keyhole door, and the house gecko :)

    Rene2014-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful house between the jungle! Great relaxing place to stay. The host is really kind and helpful. Will definitely recommend this place.

    Julia2016-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • El Arbol was the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. We absolutely loved staying on the Caribbean side and Manzanillo was one of our favorite spots. Manzanillo is quiet and small, but incredibly picturesque. The jungle house is stunning with every amenity you could ask for. The deck offered perfect views into the jungle. We saw a toucan, spider monkeys, blue morpho butterflies and lightning bugs. We cooked breakfast and dinner at the house just to soak it all in. The jungle is truly alive at night and if it rains it is very loud. I personally don't mind being awakened by howler monkeys! We rented bikes in Manzanillo but truthfully next time we would just walk and take the local bus to explore Puerto Viejo and the other beach towns. The tour with Florentino was awesome (we saw 3 sloths) - but eat a big breakfast and bring snacks. You will need the energy! We did not get to eat at El Refugio since it was closed that week but we heard it was amazing. We are already planning to go back next year and El Arbol is on our list of places to stay. When you want to experience your own private jungle, head to El Arbol. Maybe next time we visit, they will have two hammocks :) Thanks to Marilyn - she was extremely helpful to us.

  • My wife and I stayed in one of the two junglehouses for 5 days, this past January. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The house was beautiful and the hosts, John and Marilyn very helpful. We had a bit of trouble with hot water the first day, but John was on top of the issue and it was resolved by the next day. We loved the nearby beaches at Punta Uva and enjoyed a delicious meal at El Refugio, which was recommended to us by Marilyn. We did a lot of our own cooking. The kitchen was well equipped, although there was no oven, but a very efficient and powerful stovetop. We had a massive mosquito net surrounding our second level bed, but during our stay, we were not bothered by the little critters at all. The jungle really comes alive at night and the howler monkeys can be heard throughout the day. The hike to the beach is not too long, although we did have our own 4 wheel drive to get around. Having a jacuzzi looking out into the jungle and enormous trees that surround the house was memorable. Both houses are close together, but sight-lines are such that there is complete privacy. Marilyn and John live perhaps 150 feet away, around the corner, so they are nearby if we need them, but their home is not is sight, so we had all the privacy we could have wished for. All in all, this was a fun and worthwhile stay. I would recommend it to any couple wanting a few romantic days away. David M, Toronto, ON

  • El Arbol is an oasis. The treehouse is BEAUTIFUL with a gorgeous porch, lofted bedroom, full kitchen, and a bathroom with a keyhole-shaped door. They were WONDERFUL hosts, helping us find activities, with directions, and with checking into our next AirBnB. Amazing place!!!

  • El Arbol was an unforgettable escape into the jungle of Manzanillo. My husband and I were warmly greeted by Marilyn and John, not only when we arrived but every day upon leaving for an adventure or coming back from one. The jungle house has a Nordic twist and is a little masterpiece enveloped by howler monkeys, blue morpho butterflies and unknown sounds of the wild :-) A great living space with the comforts of home: a king sized bed, a fridge and stove, a wrap-around porch, and jacuzzi(URL HIDDEN)were very accommodating - they informed us about activities near and far (the jungle adventure with Tino was the highlight of our trip) and gave great restaurant suggestions (El Refugio was delicious). We're back home in Montreal now and keep dreaming of our return back to the jungle oasis called El Arbol. -Laura & Matteo

  • El Arbol is a gem. If what you are hoping for is a relaxing stay surrounded by the sounds and views of the jungle, then you will find it here. In the first 30mins of our stay, we spied some gorgeous blue morpho butterflies, a gecko and an Agouti! The house is located in Manzanillo, a sleepy beach town with a gorgeous strip of golden sand. We spent many hours on this beach and it took less then 20 mins to walk there from the house. The kitchen is fully equipped to make meals at home, if you so wish, so we stocked up on groceries at El Duende Gourmet Grocery store in Punta Uva (less than a 10mins drive away) and made most of our meals at El Arbol. What I can't stop raving about however, is the bed at El Arbol. I slept as soundly as I do in my own home, and that is a true testament of comfort while travelling. Jan and Marjolein were very welcoming from the very start and we cannot thank them enough for making our trip to Costa Rica so memorable. Thank you both!

  • The place is great to stay and close to the beach and grocery store. The apartment was very clean, the kitchen has all you need in case you decide to cook. It has a small forest next to the property and you can hear birds and monkeys. I would love to come back with my family. Marie-Cécile is a very nice person, friendly and great host. She makes sure she is available in case you need her but also gives you privacy. We arrived one day lay but was because we had inconvenient with my cell phone and departed on time due to a flight delay.

  • This was such a nice place! The pool was refreshing. It was in walking distance to the beach and the Shack restaurant had yummy food and live music when we were there.

  • This was the perfect place to end our trip to Costa Rica with our 9 month old son before flying out of Liberia. The patio/pool was the perfect way to start/end our day, as it was so close to the house, so we could even enjoy it if Oskar was asleep inside. The location is great, as it's only an hour from the airport, but even better, there are a ton of beautiful beaches to choose from. Thanks for the great stay!

  • Maries apartement is realy beautiful and perfect for groups of 4 person. We were allowed to use the pool all the time. The place is perfect to relax on the pool or to enjoy the lovely beaches. Unfortunately, due to the rainy season, there were lots of insects.

This Villa is a full one-bedroom, with a lovely living room with two walls of glass with views of our tropical garden, and a kitchenette with double hot plate, small refrigerator and microwave. The bedroom has a double bed and has a wall of glass.
We are a small property of nine apartments nestled in a tropical garden overlooking the Central Valley of Costa Rica. Our property is secure, peaceful and tranquil, with hiking trails and isolated areas to hang out and sunbathe. When you are ready for more action the center of Escazu with restaurants and shopping is 15 minutes away and if you want to go into San Jose it’s only another 15 minutes or so. The best of both worlds! See more at www.villalemas.com
Our property is located in the most exclusive area of Escazu, which is the most exclusive neighborhood in Costa Rica. Our neighbors are well-known politicians, artists and business-people. While it may be the “Beverly Hills” of Costa Rica we enjoy a very peaceful and tranquil lifestyle with the advantage of being 20 minutes from the city. There are amazing hiking trails, waterfalls and natural pools above our property on Pico Blanco (one of the mountains that towers over Escazu). If you desire a relaxed vacation there are plenty of areas to relax on the property, but if you’re more adventurous there is a wide variety of activity just outside the gates of the property!
  • Ray and Jorge were both great hosts! The views of the mountain are amazing and nothing beats the fresh air in the morning, it was like being in a different world. There is wifi which definitely came in handy for checking in with our kids and relatives. There's a guard onsite which made us feel safe and secure.

    Nancy2015-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Ray was very welcoming and the Villa was even more beautiful than any pictures can do justice. I was in and out all day and night and the guards at the gate were super helpful. Ray had dogs around the property who were all very sweet! It made me feel even more at home. Make sure to bring provisions because there aren't any markets in walking distance and have CASH because there aren't any legitimate cabs that will accept cards.

  • Ray was an awesome host ! He was super accommodating about having an extra guest and allowed us to book another villa for him ! He gave us great recommendations for the area and was super helpful when trying to locate the villa day of ! The pictures really do not do this place justice, the property is just gorgeous ! Guards on site is also a huge plus and they help with calling for a taxi ! Thanks Ray, would love to stay again !!

  • The place we stayed at was exactly what we expected. Clean, patrolled by armed body guards and with spectacular views of the city below. Honestly, when we first drove up to the place, we thought we might have made a wrong turn because of how nice the place was. The entire place is enclosed by a wall at least 8 feet tall and an armed guard is always present at the gate to greet you. The guard was kind and showed us exactly where we needed to be and gave us the run down for how to properly get in and out of the place without too much of a hassle. There were a few dogs around but they were all very friendly. There are other residents inside the gated community and all were very welcoming to us, saying "hola!" every time we crossed paths. All in all, this place was awesome and a great place to be close to the city while avoiding the noise of actually being in the city.

    Javier2017-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • The shower head in the bathroom had mold. The furniture was not maintained and dusty. There were spiders, ants, and moths in the room when we arrived. My friend and I did not feel comfortable spending the night so we found another hotel nearby. The guard informed us during check-in the doctor used to see patients in the room my friend and I were staying. This was disturbing because he did not give any additional information. We did not know if anyone has passed away in the room we were sleeping in or what type of patients were seen. Within an hour, my friend and I decided to get our luggage and find another place to stay for the night due to feeling apprehensive. My friend and I were very dissapointed we were not aware of the history of the place prior to making the reservation. The guard was helpful with showing us the room and explaining to us the history of the place which we wish we known prior. The place needs to be cleaned well. The shower head had mold and the toilet was stained. The furniture and bed smelt aged and felt dusty. There were various bugs throughout the room. Unfortunately, this was not the best airbnb experience my friend and I had anticipated. The property was very nice and the view of San Jose was great, but the room did not appear to be well maintained. Also, the thought of patients being treated in the same room we were going to sleep in was uncomfortable and disturbing. We did not want to spend out last night in CR at this location.

    Tristan2017-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely great place! Definitely bang for buck and centrally located if you plan on visiting multiple places in the country. Easiest way to find the place is to put Cemetery De Santiago in Gps . The cemetery will be on left continue all the way up the hill till you see CSM on a white wall(that is where the fork in the road is). Veer right and continue up the hill. The road is slim and seems like it can only fit one car. Continue all the way up the hill and look for "le Mas", which is not well lit. This is very hard to see especially at night. There is no A/C or heater but the breeze and tile floor keeps things very comfortable if not a little chilly. Wifi is available and very fast. I communicated with Raymond through Air and B and Raymond responded very fast. The guards do not speak English well so brush up on our Spanish or just use point . Beautiful country beautiful stay.

  • Our stay at Ray's place in Escazu was wonderful. We arrived after a long plane ride from California and Ray was there to meet us upon our arrival and recommend delicious local restaurants to explore. The property is magical as it has amazing views of the mountains and city along with winding walkways through beautiful plants and trees. We also loved meeting Ray's friendly dogs that greeted us throughout the day and made us think of our pets at home. We would absolutely recommend Ray's place for anyone's visit to the San Jose/Escazu area!

Feel the beat of San Jose! Industrial Style Studio in the heart of town, six minutes walk to museums, National Theater, and points of interest down town. You will also enjoy typical food restaurants and great coffee shops! The bus terminals are five to ten minute walk, just 25 to 35 minutes from the airport. My place is perfect for back packers, couples, friends traveling together or if you are more of a lonely traveler you will feel safe and comfortable. Self check in is available.
Small Industrial Style studio apartment perfect for a couple of days stay in San Jose or it can also be great if you plan a longer stay. It is in a six floor building that has been in the family for almost fifty years now, it used to be an office complex and for many years it was the home of the offices for a very prestigious international bank. After the bank Left, I decided to change the purpose of the building and remodel it for living purposes, Studio #404 is one of the twelve apartments that make up for the condominium. It is small, very cozy and it has everything you will need for a pleasent stay, it's fully equipped with all the amenities , kitchen, microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, toaster, you will find all you need to cook, there is even a screw cork in case you are in a mood for some wine. It has a full size bunk bed and a pull over couch, which can accommodate comfortably an adult or a small child. There is a dinning table which sits three very comfortably. It has access to internet and digital television with a 24 " TV, you can count with hot water and a very nice and comfortable shower with body gel and shampoo. The apartment is Located on the fourth floor, on the Street side of the building, and there is an elevator.
The place is located close to down town hotels, parks and museums, it is in the heart of San Jose Down town. Although San José has a population of less than three hundred thousand it is a hop all provinces and more than one million people come and go everyday, in consequence it is a very busy and crowded city during the day and lonely at night. The studio is in the fourth floor of the building to the side of the street, it can get noisy in certain hours of the day, but it is quiet at night. Like any city that you are getting to know you should never be over confident.
  • Marie's place is excellent! We could not have picked a better place to stay at or host to communicate with. We had trouble finding the apartment but messaged Marie for help and she replied to us very quickly. As she mentions, addresses are difficult in San Jose so refer to Marie's pictures and look out for the 'Pink Boutique' store and the 'CNFL' building. The yellow apartment building entrance is right in between those two buildings and across the street from a bus stop. The apartment is a short walk to shops, supermarkets, banks and food. Perfect for people like us who planned to walk everywhere in the city. Marie's place is well equipped with everything you will need including drinks, snacks and an umbrella if it rains. We cannot recommend this place enough!

    Zachary2017-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • This apartment is located in the heart of downtown, and very accessible to everything! There is a bus stop right in front and Marie is very quick to respond! I loved everything about her place! It's just absolutely perfect for 2 people! I would not recommend for 3 people.

    Margarita2017-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was very clean and it was exactly as the pictures shows. The location is in the heart of San Jose and close to all the main roads and bus terminal. We arrived at night so we decided to take a taxi to Marie's place. San Jose downtown is a little difficult to get around as all the streets look the same. Marie couldn't make it but her daughter welcomed us and explained us everything about the place and the city. Before our arrival and during our stay Marie was extremely helpful and gave us all the information we needed to get along.

    João2016-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Marie's apartment! We called it our home base while in San José - we liked it so much we stayed here two separate times! Cool apartment, cool location - great for walking to hip neighborhoods. Marie goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. It is slightly confusing to find at first - it is a somewhat unmarked glass doorway next to a bakery, but Marie was super communicative so we had no problems. I'll stay here again next time I'm in San José!

    Megan2016-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I spent 2 nights here before setting out to explore the rest of Costa Rica. Marie was very helpful before we even arrived, she also booked us a taxi from the airport that took us straight to the apartment. The apartment was in a great central location and safe and secure. Marie was very informative about the area and was a fantastic host! Thank you Marie!

    Jamie2016-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • I'm very happy to have chosen Marie's apartment. Everything that I needed was there and it was very clean. Perfect!

    Jose2017-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Marie's loft was a great find--centrally located and walkable to almost anywhere in downtown San José! This modern, colorfully-furnished apartment was equipped with everything we might need for our stay. Marie was quick to respond to our every request and generously offered logistical help when we needed a place to leave our suitcases for a couple hours after checkout. I would definitely stay again and recommend the place to anyone looking for an affordable place in San José. The apartment is usually booked, so don't hesitate if you think you might stay here!

    Taylor2017-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Marie is a WONDERFUL host. She met me there to help me get settled even though my flight got in very late! She also gave me some suggestions and tips about the surrounding area. She knows the neighborhood well! The apartment was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The building is very safe and in a good location in the heart of San Jose. Easy walk to rental car places, parks, Avenida Central, etc. Marie even left some juices and snacks for me in the apartment. I will definitely try and stay here again when I go back to San Jose.

This large, vaulted-ceilinged Villa is surrounded by glass on three sides and enjoys magnificent views of Cerro Pico Blanco, the nature reserve and the rainforest. It has a king bed and waking up is like being perched in the middle of the mountains.
See (email hidden)
  • Raymond's place was a piece of paradise!!!Stunning view!! Everything comfortable and clean. The security guard was kind and willing to help with any questions I had. Ray was always quick to respond. My stay was short, unfortunately, really wish I had planned more time to enjoy the place and hiking trails around. The dogs around the residency were very friendly ( I left in love with the black and white one) . Highly highly recommended!!!!:)

  • Raymond's place was absolutely stunning! The photos do not do the view justice. We arrived and the first thing we did was take photos on the balcony because it was so beautiful, even with the fog coming in over the mountains. The villa is up high on the mountain, but in a good part of town and extremely secure. There's a 24 hour guard and a taxi driver that works with Raymond's guests. He has good prices and is extremely prompt. It's not in the center of town, but it's worth it being a bit father up for that view!

  • This is a great place with beautiful views, Raymond is a great host. I just spent one night there but had a great night. The place itself could be a little difficult to find, just ask Raymond for the exact address after you book.

    Roger2015-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Raymond was very helpful and accommodating - the perfect host. He was accessible for questions, advice and to accommodate our needs while respecting our privacy. The views from here are spectacular. Wonderful place to relax and enjoy the incredible views and surroundings. It is up the hill(!) and out of the traffic and noise of the city but close enough to get into town in minutes. We were actually in the clouds. The metal roof made for wonderful sleeping when in rained (it was the rainy season). You do need a car or taxi as the road up the hill is steep but well worth it. The kitchen is small and functional. The pups where friendly and gave a touch of "home".

  • This was a great start to our trip in Costa Rica!! The place was beautiful just like the pictures, the view was unbeatable. Three gorgeous and sweet dogs greeted us upon arrival as well as a very kind guard at the front gate of the property. We came late but Raymond stayed up in order to direct us to the property! I would have to say the best part of this place was Raymond. He was very kind and super helpful with everything we needed. Couldn't have asked for a better host. Would definitely stay here again if I ever find myself back here again!

  • Host was very welcoming! He helped us find our way when (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps lead us astray(WAZE app is the way to go). The place was clean and had an amazing view of the nearby landscape. Stayed here only one night but definitely worth it.

    Nick2016-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • Raymond was great he checked on our progress and made sure both parties arrived on time. The location is removed from town but escazu center is closer and has great food options.

  • Loved my stay in this house! Amazing view (although there is no view of the city, just the beautiful mountains from the house). It was very clean, had a comfortable bed, and coffee! The hot water was the best we got in our entire stay in CR. I felt 100% safe here due to the gated and guarded entrance. It was a little difficult to find with my GPS directions but Raymond gave me good directions and I just had to drive more north than my GPS stated. I personally liked staying in Escazu, there are good restaurants around and it's only 20-30 minutes from central San Jose. I would recommend this house!

Super magical & unique tree house based on sacred geometry located on an active organic farm. It's truly in the trees, not on stilts. It's composed of 4 rustic open air structures: the Awarenest - a separate epic 360 view deck 9m (30ft) high, the Bedroom Pod - with hanging bed, desk, northern view of the mountains and half bath with suspended bridge to full Kitchen Pod both at 4.5m (15ft) high and lastly a separate bathroom/shower pod at 3m (12ft). Basically a jungle farm wildlife adventure.
The main initial structure, the bedroom is actually suspended by cables between 5 strong Melina trees. The sacred geometry shape is an Icosahedron, one of the 5 platonic solids. It’s composed of 20 equilateral triangles that join at 12 vertices roughly making a spherical shape. The bedroom has a queen bed with canopy mosquito net, a built in desk, a small sink (with running water) and mirror and small porch. Just outside the bedroom is a half bathroom with flushing toilet. The kitchen, connected to the bedroom by a bridge has a full size sink, half size frig, toaster oven, 1 burner gas stove, plenty of counter space and built in couch/bench that can sleep a 3rd person, but it's narrow and not very comfortable for sleeping (which is why it's a 2 person listing). The bathroom in a separate tree, has flushing toilet and shower with 2 heads, one is cold only and one has hot and cold. Plenty of privacy but open air with a view. It has a ladder access. The view deck, called the Awarenest is about 30' up with quite an amazing view. It's accessible by a series of ladders, so not for the faint of heart. It's a great spot for yoga, meditation or just relaxing on top of the world. It's in the tallest, highest tree in the area. I say highest because it's also at the top of a little hill. It's truely one of a kind.
It’s 15 min drive to the Montezuma beach and about 25 min drive to Mal Pais and Santa Teresa Beaches. It’s nicely settled in the hills between them. Also about 15 minutes from Cobano, the largest town in the area for supplies, etc. Those times change based on road conditions. It’s not actually very far, but you wont’ be driving super fast. There’s a wonderful authentic Italian restaurant located close by, in the middle of no where. Their pizza is amazing and cooked in a wood fired home made earth oven, hence the restaurants name, Tierra Y Fuego (earth and fire). They are only open Thursday-Sunday and closed for most of Sept/Oct.
  • This is the reason to use airbnb: finding unique and unusual places to stay and to get a more authentic/local experience. The treehouse definitely delivered on all accounts! We are two city folk and I'm afraid of heights. Nevertheless, this place was awesome. It's magical to sleep in a treehouse with no windows and only half-height walls (otherwise wide open to the jungle). Make no mistake, this is closer to camping than a Four Seasons. As long as that's what you're looking for, I highly recommend this place. It was a major highlight of our trip. By the end of our stay, I was comfortable enough with the setup that the fear of heights didn't bother me. (I'm bad enough that I can't climb a ladder to change a lightbulb 12 feet off the ground at home, and the first night I stayed here was a little nerve-wracking.) I do recommend bringing an LED headlamp (many for sale on Amazon; I have one from Energizer that I like, but I'm sure many are just fine). One other weird thing: my iPhone 5S wouldn't connect to the wifi, but my laptop connected just fine. The wifi is usable, but very high-latency and slow, so it's worthwhile to be connected a little bit back to "real life", but it's not usable for hardcore work, IMO. (You're not coming here to work anyway, right?) We also took part in a shared breakfast on the farm next-door and enjoyed a tour of the farm. This was a huge hit with my wife, and a big highlight of the trip for both of us. We were sad to have to leave.

  • What an incredible, unique experience this was. We loved the treehouse and would recommend to any other nature lovers. Joseph was extremely welcoming and gave us a tour of the very impressive permaculture farm. 10/10 from us!!

  • Hello, our experience in the tree house was awesome, we had all needs in our hand, one of the best things was the floating bed, I had to say that we sleep like baby's. The sight that we had was nice. The host Jacques was help full she explains us all the things of the farm, we recommended this place 100%.

    Olman2015-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a magnificent stay on the farm. Kara was our onsite host and she is wonderful. We had some trouble finding the tree house and she helped us and received us very graciously. We participated in several community meals on the farm for a very reasonable extra cost which was one of the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica. Jacques prepares vibrant delicious meals. The noises of the jungle entranced us during our stay, as did the views of the treehouse.

    Jennifer2015-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • We loved it!! It was a real experience that won't be forgotten. This is a perfect place for an adventurous couple. The bedroom was wonderful and the kitchen well equipped. Julito and Josephine were very friendly and helpful, as were the volunteers that we met. Julito gave us a very informative tour of the farm and we had a great yoga lesson in the morning. Addressing the bug issue..... We read the reviews and came prepared with an arsenal of repellents, foggers and pic coils. Being from rural southern Ontario, Canada, this is what we need on a daily basis just to go outside. We DID NOT use any of this stuff in the whole 2 weeks we were in Costa Rica... ...except once, ..... when we first arrived at the tree house, in dire need of a shower, it coincided with the ants cleaning schedule for the shower...I foolishly thought I could sweep them away....got bit twice in 20 seconds and then chose the wiser option of just backing away.....that's when I used the citrus smelling (URL HIDDEN) deodorant, and went to town for dinner. The shower was fine for the rest of our stay. We did get ants in our sugar....because we didn't seal it up properly and the grand total of three noseeums got through the netting and touched me during the night, I rolled over and went back to sleep. it's an open air, tree (URL HIDDEN) the (URL HIDDEN) Costa Rica It's not a 5 star (URL HIDDEN) "glamping" at its finest.

  • I had a wonderful experience. Kathia was such a sweet heart and she is also a massage therapist. Joseph was quick to respond to my messages. I can honestly say that the tree house humbled me. It was clean and truly breathtaking. Staying there is an experience I will never forget. I did not have a car and it was off the beaten path so just remember that if you plan to stay a few days and want to cook or have food readily available. You may want to stop at the market prior. I would absolutely stay here again.

  • Corteza del Sol was a little oasis within the Oasis that is Jacó. We felt so comfortable and safe staying there. Because of the other things Jacó offers, we spent little time at the condo, but it had everything we needed while there. The place may be a little older, but because of the wood floors and updated kitchen and bathroom it felt new, with character. The kitchenette was great to be able to have breakfast and snacks there. He grounds are impeccable with a breathtaking mountain view. Pictures don't do it justice. We always drove into town, but it was never a hassle. Amnon's recommendations were great! He was an incredible responsive host and so kind! Hope we get a chance to come back and stay here again!

    Rachel 2015-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a truly great complex. Only a few minutes by car from the city centre, this is a fantastic place to relax before heading out to Jacó's nightclubs or just stay in and enjoy the night sky. The house is just as described in the pictures. Beautifully decorated, with A/C in both rooms, huge bathrooms, washer and dryer, a comfortable kitchen and dining area. It's a very quiet complex, so you'll be sure to sleep well. Amnon was very responsive and helpful. We arrived and left at uncomfortable hours and there was no problem checking in and out of the house. Everytime we had an issue, Amnon had a quick solution. Be sure to consider this place when visiting Jacó.

  • I wish we were still there, made many friends in the other condo's, the plus of this unit was the two bathrooms. Great internet and even American cable. You need a bike or car to stay there. Nice friendly guards.

    Wendy2017-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • A lock box to get the keys is a good idea, gives flexibility. Friendly security guard at the gate 24hrs...... just great service.

    Clifford2017-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Condo unit was great. Everything was very clean. Very secure and locked gate to get in. Very nice pool. Ami was very attentive and would answer any questions. He even came by the one day to check on some things I asked about. (The TV was missing, the wiFi information he had listed and the toilet was running). Ami fixed all of them as he had the TV in repair, gave me connections to two WiFi connections and adjusted the toilet. I would definitely stay there again!!

    Michael2016-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • My stay here was absolutely perfect. I never saw Amnon but Amnon answered all my questions immediately. Property is located peaceful urbanizacion which can be said luxurious in Costa Rica. Safe. Modern. Better than hotel.

    tomas2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay very much, and would be happy to return, The condo was beautiful and clean, plenty of room for 3 of us. We enjoyed the beautifully landscaped pool area and the well equipped kitchen. The private laundry was also nice as we were half way through our stay in Costa Rica and ready for clean clothes. Jaco is too crowded and busy for us, so it was great to relax by the pool and eat in. Amnon was responsive and helpful. His recommendation to visit Villa Caletas for the sunset view was great. We enjoyed drinks and the spectacular view at this lovely resort.

Rustic private beach home in front of the most famous beach home in the surf town of Playa Hermosa, where world championships have been hosted. Enjoy waking up to the sound of ocean waves & macaws with a private pool overlooking the ocean. Our front fence gate opens to the beach. Sand & waves are at your footsteps. Walk right to the laid back beach front restaurants, bars and surf shops or head left to the desolate beaches of the Playa Hermosa - Punta Mala Wildlife National Refuge. Surf heaven!
This beachfront private beach home lies right in front of the Pacific Ocean in a corner property next to the main highway. It consists of two homes, one for your exclusive use. Your 2-story rustic wood getaway has 5 bedrooms & 3 bathrooms. Upstairs it features a lounge area with a hammock & rocking chairs, a bathroom, 2 bedrooms with queen beds, each to accomodate 2 guests plus a bedroom with 3 single beds. Downstairs is a kitchen, a living/eating area facing the pool & ocean, a common bathroom, a room with a private bathroom & queen bed plus another bedroom with 2 single beds. The house is ideal for 3 couples & 5 individuals or groups ranging from 8 to 11 people. The kitchen includes a fridge, a gas stove, microwave, dishes, glasses, coffee maker, blender, small counter top oven, pots & pans plus cooking utensils. Sheets, towels, soap & shampoo are provided. Bring your beach towels, mosquito repellent & most importantly, a bathing suit & sunblock. There is an onsite person that guards & maintains the property. The swimming pool lies in between the house & the beach. It's a perfect spot for the most beautiful sunsets & surf shows. There is an outdoor shower area in between plantain trees overlooking the ocean. A rustic BBQ is also available. Wifi is available as well as fans in every bedroom and living /lounge areas. A very large deck with a large custom wood dining table, rocking chairs, sofa & hammocks is available when the owners are not present in the next door house. Secure parking is available inside the property for 4 cars. Playa Hermosa is a quiet beach town known worldwide for its surfing - it hosted the world surf championships a few years back. Saturday afternoons surfers & surf fans fight for parking to witness world-class surfing at the weekly surf competitions, viewed from the privacy of your beach home. The property is located at the end of the town & the beginning of a natural reserve that preserves sea turtle nestling. It abuts the main highway known as La Costanera to the east, the Backyard hotel to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the west & an open cattle field to the south. Small restaurants, surf & a few small shops are located within walking distance. Due to the town's proximity to virgin rainforest, you will likely see Scarlet macaws on a daily basis. Iguanas roam freely all over the property. Our country is notorious for bad roads & bad signage. For most flexibility, we recommend you hire a 4x4 with low mileage and either bring or rent a GPS. Waze is very handy! If you plan to party at night in Jaco, taxis can easily be hired for pick up and will be available in town for drop off. Always be careful with your belongings, as it is the case with all of Latin America. Bring your own surfboard, rent or take surf lessons in town but be mindful of the extremely strong ocean currents. A yoga center is less than 1 km away. Local tours include bungee jumping in Jaco, sport fishing in Los Suenos Golf Resort & Marina, horseback riding through jungle trails or along the beach, hikes to waterfalls, kayaking, biking, ATV rides, canopy ziplining & whitewater rafting. On site massages can be arranged too. Other day trips include Tortuga Island, Carara National Park & Manuel Antonio National Park visits. The property ia located 1.5 hrs away from San Jose & 5 min from the bustling tiwb of Jaci, where you wilk dknd ATMs, nightlife, restaurants, supermarkets, souvenir skhops & all sorts of retail. Please note there is no air conditioning or hot water.

  • We rented this house for a yoga teacher training retreat. There were 8 of us and it was perfect. The view and acess to the ocean great. The girls really felt like they were escaping the city ( we live in San Jose, Costa Rica). It had everything we needed and would agree that these pictures don't do it justice. :)

  • We were welcomed by Derby, the grounds keeper and shortly after that Yolanda, Catarina's mother. She came with several different types of fruit and a bag of ice for the freezer. The place was exactly as it appeared on the website. The pool was an excellent addition considering it was 90 degrees! The neighborhood was very nice-laidback and for the most part quiet. The trucks on the road were a bit loud, but I bring earplugs everywhere I go anyways so it wasn't a problem.

    Cynthia2016-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • A group of us [11] stayed at this amazing property in Playa Hermosa, Catarina was great; helping me plan excursions and transport for the group, super fast communication and flexible when we were delayed! The house was better than we expected, pictures are modest! Our large group spread out between the pool, multiple hang out areas and the beautiful beach out front. All the essentials were set up for us on arrival, water, ice, coffee, fruit, such a great welcome by Yolanda; Catarina's mum. We had massages at the house [coordinated at our request by Derbi], epic poolside dinners, horse riding along the beach, couldn't have wished for a better experience. The house is walking distance to a few fun beach side hotels and a short drive to Jaco; where there is a bit more of a popping night scene. A great location for day trips to any terrain; waterfalls, jungles, National parks and many beautiful beaches, the only thing of note is the property's proximity to the road but this disappears as soon as you stand out front and hear the waves crashing! A wonderful home, a terrific trip... thank you Catarina

  • I went to Costa Rica as part of bachelor party and stayed at Catarina's house for 4 nights. It was an incredible experience. The house is right on the one of the best surfing beaches in the world. It is also very relaxed / we felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves. Our entire trip was great. Catarina was super helpful at recommending activities. A really nice & friendly guard / caretaker lives close to the property, he also helped with questions / taxis and also prepared a wonderful fresh watermelon smoothie for us one day. The house is quite close to Jaco, if that is your thing. We ended up not going into Jaco as much as we thought we would, because Costa Rica offered up so many better options. I could sit on that beach, looking at waves for months... Overall, it was a fantastic experience, thank you Catarina!

    Tamas2015-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • The house was just what me and my friends were looking for when we booked the trip. Its a beautiful house with a pool and the beach a 2 steps away. She is really friendly and hospitable, whatever we needed she made it a point to help us out. Its only a few minutes away from Jaco by cab ($5) but far enough where you dont have to deal with a lot of people and have your space. Would totally recommend it to anyone that is looking to travel to Costa Rica!!!!

    Alejandro2014-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The place was perfect for us! Looks better in person than in the pictures. Host was very welcoming and answered all of our questions. Playa Hermosa is a fun little surf town...5 min drive/cab ride to Jaco and near many other beaches and national parks. My family and friends all had a great time! PURA VIDA!

  • The details in the post on this house are right on! I loved staying there and the noise did not bother me but it did some light sleepers in the group.

  • We loved out stay in Playa Hermosa. The pool was a great perk- the kids loved it. It was wonderful to fall asleep to the sound of the waves at night. The host, Caterina, was very helpful and made us feel at home. Thanks for a great trip.

Sharing the treetops with monkeys, birds & iguanas, this light, airy, 2nd floor apartment is just 50 meters from the beach, right in the heart of Sámara. Great nature views and sounds of the ocean throughout. Fully equipped kitchen, 2 bedrooms, WiFi.
Poised on a back road that ends at the beach and is shared by the local language school and other lodging units, this unique and spacious apartment (75m2) with its vaulted ceiling is shaded by mango, papaya, plantain, and cashew tres. Our fully furnished apartment has two bedrooms, one bath, and an open-plan living room and kitchen with a tiled breakfast bar, and WiFi. Netflix works perfectly in Costa Rica, we suggest bringing your account info to be able to connect on your devices when you wish. The master bedroom has a double bed while the second has two single beds sleeping a total of four comfortably, perfect for a family, two couples or traveling friends. Both rooms have bedside tables, lamps, closets and ceiling fans. Our unique furniture is handmade by local woodworkers using recycled tropical woods and driftwood. The kitchen has a convection toaster-oven, 4-burner stovetop, blender, electric water heater and Costa Rican coffee-drip, and seating for 5 at the breakfast bar. In the interest of full disclosure, as with any rentals in the heart of Sámara, the bar-restaurants can be noisy at night (mostly on weekends), and there is a new bar-restaurant diagonally behind us that has live music on Wednesdays. The early morning roosters, dogs and howler monkeys present all over Sámara can also be a noise factor! To that end we have two loud floor fans that work great for drowning out outside noise, and recommend bringing earplugs. If you are sensitve to noise or a light sleeper, we recommend looking for a rental further out of town. We do not have AC at the apartment, so check average temperatures for your dates if you are not used to the tropical heat.
I love that we are so close to the beach, you don't even need to put your flipflops on, and that there is so much nature and wildlife around us. Also, being right near the language school is a plus, as guests can use the facilities and take part in activities like yoga and dance, and feel like they are part of a community if they want to. Also, absolutely everything is within very short walking distance (no more than a few blocks)!
  • House was exactly as expected. Laura and her family were perfect hosts. They assisted us in finding things to do and making calls when needed. We visited during March and April, the hottest months. The house was pretty hot during peak hours but cooled off nicely by evening. I never had a problem with noise from the bar but my husband did. The fans really help. My sons bed had a thinner mattress that he didn't like but we layered the blankets under him and he was comfortable. The kids's fans didn't work as well as ours did but we mentioned this to Laura and knowing her, she has probably already replaced them. The location really couldn't get much better. A short walk (less than a block) from the beach and only slightly farther to stores and restaurants. We didn't rent a car for the entire month we were there. I highly recommend this rental.

  • We had such a wonderful holiday!! I could not thank Laura enough for all her help. Such a great place to stay, beautiful apartment and perfect location, only a short walk to the beach, restaurants and grocery store! What a nice little town Samara is, we felt very safe and at home there. We would love to go back and would definitely stay at Laura's Place again but next time for longer and to learn Spanish at the school just down the road. :)

    Michelle2014-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Laura was very clear about directions, logistical information etc… right from the beginning. Fantastic host. The place is exactly the way it is described with the beach a few steps down from the property. I would definitely book again and am planning on doing it next year! Samara and Carillo beaches are beautiful and quiet..non of that busy touristy stuff. Laura arranged for even horse back riding and her staff at the Intercultura School was also very helpful. I highly recommend her place to all!

    Mir2014-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • HOST - not very welcoming unfortunately. I was very disappointed. Upon arrival, she just shook our hands and endorsed the key to her 8 or 9 year old son. Laura did not even bother to give us a quick tour, etc nor check on us during the entire trip. In my opinion, it's somewhat rude for a host to do this. Sorry. I rented apartments/houses from airbnb and all of the hosts at least greeted us with a brief orientation. Although her response time with the email was very quick. LOCATION- perfect as it is centrally located - u can surf, go to bars, shop, etc almost within 2-10 minutes of walking. APARTMENT - very clean but beds were very uncomfortable. Decently equipped kitchen. Cable and wi-fi worked very well for us. Bathroom was good, no issues. Just watch your steps going up the spiral staircase and 3 steps down to the apartment. My friend almost broke his back. Be careful and mindful of the steps(URL HIDDEN)

  • Laura's place was wonderful, our boys were happy to be literally 1 minute walking distance from the beach. Everything you need within walking distance. The house is very spacious and comfortable and airy. We loved waking up in the morning to the sound of birds and howler monkeys. It was truly a wonderful experience. Love the town of Samara. Thanks Laura

  • Right by the beach, safe neighborhood, and next to all the shops! There were three iguanas that would say hi to us outside of the door everyday. Great place!

  • The pictures were exactly as Casa en el Aire is in reality. We loved the proximity to the beach. The crockpot and blender (making our own betidas daily!) were great to have. Many people we met were shocked we were staying somewhere without a/c, so just beware that the breeze and fans are your cooling mechanisms! Walked to the Pali grocery store just down the road; everything so close. Some of the friendliest people we've ever met were in Sámara - you will not be disappointed.

  • Everything about Laura's almost beachfront, light, airy apartment was absolutely stunning. She was excellent with communication from the beginning with setting up transportation and flexibility with dates. The apartment itself is beautiful and very clean. You are perched up top which almost makes it feel like you are staying in the treehouse. Neighbors are your daily roosters, iguanas and howler monkeys but as soon as you walk out of the apartment you are confronted with the most luscious island beach. Samara itself is such a beautiful secluded little city and the locals are so warm and welcoming. There is a local food store that we went to grab groceries and abundance of fresh fruit. There are also a ton of bars and restaurants to enjoy. The apartment's wifi made it possible to share photos with family and Laura was sweet enough to let us use her long board to surf on the beach. The noise at night during the weekends was never an issue, because we went down and joined them. This is definitely the place to be and I strongly reccomend a stay in Laura's place.

Casa Blue's 1.5 acre property sits on a mountain, surrounded by tropical forest and overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Up to ten guests may enjoy this beautiful and private estate with all amenities and only 15 minutes from Tamarindo.
Casa Blue's 1.5 acre property sits on a mountain, surrounded by tropical forest and overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It offers 5 bedrooms with 5.5 bathrooms. This is one of the last arquitectural jewels of the late Steve Adams (San Diego, CA) and it encloses what was most important for the creative genious: a house that is designed from the outside, in. The main house is painted in a soft pale blue, given the property its name and is reminiscent of the owner's trips to the South of France. The gate opens into an outdoor patio with a fountain and a BBQ area, the whole detailed in grey stone and giving the house a very exotic yet cozy atmosphere. The ample entrance hallway is framed in glass, allowing the sun to shower the house all day long, and immersing the guests in the fabulous landscape from the minute they step in. This main house contains the Master Bedroom, which is an ample room in a private wing, with a terrace, an office space, a walk-in closet, a bathtub and both an indoor and an outdoor shower. The two other guest bedrooms have access to terraces with hammocks, and both enjoy magnificent ocean views. An exterior stairway leads into an upper deck, suitable for yoga practice, massage sessions or just cocktail drinking at sunset time. The living area encompasses the kitchen, the dining and the living room, creating a casual and relaxed atmosphere. Bi-folding glass doors blend this area with the pool and the deck, bringing the outdoors in and making it just the ideal spot to chill. The spacious TV room with a DVD player, a book library and a comfortable couch may be separated from the rest of the house by a sliding door, thus creating a quiet place to watch a movie or the perfect game room for adults and children alike. Beautifully kept garden walkways lead to the other buildings of the house: a caretakers quarters and the two guest bungalows set in forest. These are ancient Thai buildings, all made out of wood and imported by the owner to recreate the zen energy of old Asian cultures. Both bungalows are ancrered in wood platforms thus giving the impression of being tree houses, overlooking the ocean and surrounded by green foliage all year round.
  • Casa Blue was beautiful! Better than the pictures! Went with 9 friends for a bachelorette weekend and had the best time. The house was kept exceptionally clean. We used the house recommended chef, catamaran tour, and personal driver and had no issues. Alejandra was great at responding to any questions and concerns prior to and during the trip. Would definitely recommend!

    Kirsten2016-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • This house is magical. It's the perfect spot for an amazing Costa Rican vacation! The only thing better than the house itself are the views from the amazing balcony and infinity pool. The bungalows offered a separate space which allowed for some seclusion between the people in our group, and the three bedrooms in the main house were amazingly furnished and extremely comfortable. We loved the half indoor/half outdoor shower in the master. It made me want to put one in my own house. The kitchen has every appliance, utensil and gadget you might need and the huge folding doors allowed us to bring the outside in. You will see plenty of wildlife around the home. We had monkey, lizards, iguanas, colorful birds and loads of dragonflies each day. The drive up the mountain made me a little nervous the first time, but the transportation company Alejandra recommended definitely knew what they were doing. It's a small price to pay to get to live in such an amazingly exclusive area. I need to mention Alejandra and the staff who care for the home. We experienced an unforeseen event and my mother in law ended up in the hospital during our stay. Alejandra went so far as to stop in and check on her when we couldn't be there. She made sure we had as much information as possible and offered any help we might need. Elgin and and Jocelyn were amazing. They live on property and help with everything from pool maintenance and housekeeping to helping us figure out how to use an appliance. Elgin also played a big part in making sure my mother in law was taken care of. Everyone went above and beyond to make our stay amazing, even in a time of uncertainty. Thank you again. We are already wishing we were back at Casa Blue!

  • Incredible stay, beautiful house, perfect location, phenomenal view...Definitely coming back next time I come to Costa Rica! Thank you Alejandra!!!

    Thomas2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • There are not enough words to describe this property! The house, pool, and landscaping are clean and well maintained and the view is stunning! It's a short drive to beaches and restaurants but well worth the drive to be able to come home to this house. Our group used Carmen for dinner several nights and she is awesome. We also took a cooking class with Fabian which was great. Alejandra and the house staff were wonderful. They were very resourceful and helpful. We will definitely stay here again on a return trip to Costa Rica!

    Jason2016-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • This home is beautiful. The views are amazing, the pool, rooms, atmosphere were all wonderful. The photos show how beautiful the house is but you cannot express its true beauty with just those photos. The home is located in a great spot to easily get to Tamarindo, Playa Flamingo, Brasilito and more. The beach at Playa Flamingo was the best overall. We visited Tamarindo beach, Playa Conchal, Playa Grande and Playa Flamingo was the best!! The food in this country was outstanding. Beachside cafés and sodas were all top notch. Not a bad meal for the entire trip. Grocery stores near by were easy to get in and out of and get what you need for the house. Try Will-Marts down the street. Take a right out of the driveway to the house and it will be on your left. We did have fabulous food made by Fabien on two nights during our stay. The food was great and absolutely perfect. Just make sure your have your own wine or other drinks to complement the meal and you will be in heaven. Fabien is a great cook and we were all so pleasantly pleased for our group of 8. The home is so quiet that you can really enjoy the sounds of nature with a nice cup of coffee sitting by the pool. In the mornings you can hear Howler monkeys and birds galore. It was like our own little zoo. Monkeys not only in the distance but on a tree close to one of the bungalows. We also saw coatis, iguanas, geckos, sloths, birds of all sorts, and a tarantula! All-in-all, I would stay at this house again if I did not have so many other places in my bucket list. The only suggestion I would have for improvement and this is a small suggestion because the place was top notch is to get air conditioning in the bungalows and invest in some better beds. The springs in the beds were a bit noisy but NOT uncomfortable. Every time my husband turned over I would almost pop out of bed!

    Katie2017-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Alejandra and her staff did a phenomenal job from start to finish. Not only did they set the proper expectations and directions needed to plan out our vacation but they were really welcoming and made my entire group feel at home. I highly recommend the privite chef (fabian) who was very punctual and created a magnificent buffet for us. The experience my group had will never be forgotten and it was mostly due to the Alejandra and her team. We definitely will be back.

  • Casa Blue is a hidden gem. The house is stunning, with a floor plan and decor that we would love to replicate for our own home. The staff, Jocelyn and Eljin, are warm and attentive to every detail. We also used the cooking services, and Carmen's food was delicious (both the adults and kids were happy with her meals). Highly recommend this house to anyone who is looking for a unique experience in the hillside of Costa Rica, yet only ~20 minutes from the beach, and enjoys houseguests such as monkeys and iguanas :)

    Cristina2017-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We traveled with our best friends for our first ever trip to Costa Rica. So glad we stumbled across Alejandra's Casa Blue listing on Air BnB. It was definitely the highlight of our week long trip. Once you get there you never want to leave. The pool and the view are spectacular and we could easily have spent our entire time there and never gone anywhere else!!! Make sure you line up her recommended French chef Fabien to cook dinner for you. It was definitely over the top!!! You can't go wrong by choosing Casa Blue!!!

Our Paradise Condo is One of Jaco Beach's Most affordable and Fashionable two-bedroom Condos that can accommodate up to five guests. it is one of the best situated two bedroom residences within the Condominio Paradiso Community.
This is one of the best-situated two-bedroom residences within the Condominio Paradiso community, as it is adjacent to a lovely garden and close to the two pools and whirlpool. Despite the proximity to the pools and whirlpool, the condo is quiet and relaxing. The condo is equipped with A/C, two flat screen TVs, Internet, full kitchen, and lovely furnishings. The Condominio Paradiso community is in a tremendous location, just one block to the beach and a few steps from fantastic restaurants and shops. It is a gated community that has 24/7 guard service. Located on the main road in Jacó, Calle Pas Diaz, but set back behind the front gate, Paradiso is a safe, secure, lovely, and very well-maintained community. The condo is equipped with A/C, two flat screen TVs, Internet, full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and lovely furnishings throughout.
  • Ami was an excellent host! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at his condo. Everything was exactly as promised, and the location in Jaco is very difficult to beat. In addition, Ami made himself available to answer any and all questions we had throughout the week, usually within a matter of seconds. We were fortunate enough to spend a short amount of time with him near the end of our trip and will forever be friends now. He is a great, honest man with a excellent piece of property in Jaco. We will always recommend his condo to friends and family that travel. Great experience! Pura Vida!

  • Great location right in downtown Jaco. We felt very safe in the gated community. Amnon was very prompt with inquiries before and during our stay. He sends a massive information packet regarding the area, what to eat, where to go that was incredibly helpful. There were a couple inconveniences during our stay that wasn't a huge deal..but were noticeable compared to other vacation rentals we have stayed at. ex] no towels upon arrival..waited a few hours and received two, couldn't find trash bags for the trash, need to purchase matches to use the stove, and etc. Overall, I recommend this place.

  • Amnon was great! Sent a great info packet about Costa Rica as soon as we booked with great details about weather, restaurants, and Jaco in general. The place is great, pictures are very accurate. And like other reviews say it's in the perfect location you can walk to every thing. Amnon is super fast at responding to any questions you have b4 you arrive and while you're there. Thanks again would definitely stay there again

  • Amnon was very welcoming!!! He got us from San Jose and everything went smoothly. He even stop to take pictures of the crocodile! His place was beautiful and easy access to everything in Jaco. We walked around and had a great time! The pool in the condo was the perfect way to end the night! Amnon was such a great host. He answered all my questions at all time and made sure we were comfortable! Thank you !!!!

Beautifully designed open air home just steps from the beach.
Casa Troya reflects the typical home design of the Osa Peninsula with its half-height walls and natural, local building materials. It has a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom downstairs and a loft partitioned into two bedrooms upstairs. The overall aesthetic of this home evokes a sense of movement as the lines of the structure resemble a wave, ship or an animal, depending on one's perspective. The house is situated just 50 meters from the beach offering views of the water and a nice ocean breeze. Casa Troya offers a comfortable and inspired place to spend your vacation. Internet is not available at the house, however, is available in a different structure on the property that is about a 2 minute walk from the house.
Cabo Matapalo, known by the locals as simply Matapalo, is a small community located 15 km south on a bumpy dirt road from the town of Puerto Jimenez. The area consists of a scattering of eco-lodges and rental homes with one local bar. There are no banks or grocery stores, so make sure to stock up in Puerto Jimenez before heading out. Over the years, Matapalo has become a surf destination. It borders a beach along the Pacific Ocean that routinely ushers in large swells. There are several areas to surf. The waves vary in difficulty, allowing for beginner to expert surfing opportunity. The abundant wildlife also makes this area popular among travelers. Four species of monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans, sloths, agoutis, and coatimundis are just a small sample of the wildlife that one sees on a regular basis. The Audobon Society has named Cabo Matapalo one of the premiere bird watching venues in the world. Matapalo is where travelers go to be at one with nature and find ultimate relaxation. The pristine rainforests and rugged natural beauty of the Osa Peninsula make this region one of the most beautiful areas in Costa Rica. Declared one of the most biologically intense places on Earth by National Geographic Magazine, the Osa Peninsula has become the premier eco-tourism destination in the country. The Osa Peninsula is a secluded nature wonderland, playing home to many of the country’s rare and endangered animal and bird species, including squirrel monkeys, jaguars, and other forest cats. With a large chunk of the peninsula forming the Corcovado National Park, this area has the single largest expanse of lowland tropical rainforest in Central America and is one of the tallest rainforests in the world. The area hosts more than 375 bird species, a fourth of Costa Rica's tree species and more than (phone number hidden) vascular plant species, many of which are found nowhere else on earth. The rain forest is made up of 700 tree species — the greatest diversity of tree species in all of Central America.
  • I planned a trip to Costa Rica for my 40th birthday & when I found this place on Airbnb I fell in love right away and knew I wanted to go there. We made the 7 hour drive from the airport in San Jose in a rental car. This place is well worth the the long drive. It's an amazing structure made of bamboo and is open air to the beautiful natural surroundings. We were able to disconnect from phones and internet and reconnect with nature. Though they do have internet access on the property at the Casa Grande. We spent the mornings watching the crabs scuttle, wading in the tide pools & watching marine life when it was low tide. MaCaws flew over the house frequently. Everyone we met that lives on or takes care of the property from Lindsay, to Miguel, Grace and Walter made the experience that much better. It was like living in small community rather than being a tourist. They made you feel welcome and right at home. The book with suggestions or things to do was very well put together and helpful. We took a horseback ride through the jungle and repelled from a waterfall on my birthday, after hearing Lindsay talk about it. Menor the cowboy that lead our horseback ride down the beach and through the jungle was so warm and welcoming, & speaks perfect English was funny and an amazing scout as he and Leonardo pointed out wildlife in the jungle that I wouldn't have noticed otherwise: toucans, howler monkeys, the blue marpo butterfly etc. The surf was too strong for us to swim while we were there, but we enjoyed wading and meditating way out in the bay at low tide. Travelers be ware if you get money from the ATM in town it will charge you a $15 service fee from the bank and then service fees from your own bank. It's better to come to Puerto Jimenez with cash. Most of the things to do accept dollars such as the farmers market at Martinez on Friday night, which was a lot of fun and horseback riding. I highly recommend staying at this house or one of the other two houses on the property. This was an amazing adventure. Thank you Gretchen and everyone else that we met for your kindness and hospitality.

  • This bamboo house was such a delight for me, my cousin and mother! We had amazing sunrises and views. We were able to do adventurous hikes, horse back riding and a boat ride during the days and rest in the evenings! The staff was so helpful and kind helping us book any adventures of our interest! The house is like a big tree house with everything you need. We had to drive 30 min to the market to get food which was no problem and a fun ride. Thank you so much. We will definitely be returning in the future.

    Kelley2016-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, this place is stunning! Beautiful breezy casa in a beautiful environment. You have to like that it's completely open. So yes, there are bugs and bats flying around. And there are capucin monkeys in your backyard throwing mangos out of the tree. And there are howler monkeys that wake you up in the morning. But I don't see the problem there :). The beach is just a few steps away. Ohnand the bed was comfy too! We never had the chance to meet Gretchen but Monika is great and takes really good care. She arranged a half day tour for us with Luis to spot some wildlife like birds, butterflies, frogs, small mammals and even a sloth! Really recommend this place to nature lovers.

    Liesbeth2016-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • It was heartbreaking to have to leave Casa Troja at Boca Sombrero. We had such a wonderful time here with our 2 children. The property is (with the current state of the road) about 45 min drive from Puerto Jimenez. You definitely need 4x4, travel further south also requires crossing rivers via fords. Monika the on site manager was a delight and helped us with absolutely everything. We can thoroughly recommend a boat trip to the wild life sanctuary towards Golfito - we had a very informative tour and got to see numbers of Dolphins on the way back. Casa Troya was designed by an artist and you do live in a work of art, open to the surroundings, so expect many uninvited visitors! Insect repellent is a must. Scarlet macaws and monkeys at breakfast, all sorts of other wildlife to be spotted from the terrace. The beach is beautiful but unfortunately not suitable for children due to the rocks. However, there is a great sandy beach just a couple of km up the road (Playa Tamales) where body boarding etc is possible. We can 100% recommend this wonderful place for an unforgettable holiday.

    Ian2016-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • This place is perfection. I was only here two nights and greatly regret such a short stay. I rarely return to the same place twice, but I feel like I need to come back with friends am family. I saw monkeys and macaws and lizards and butterflies and crabs and all kinds of birds I had never seen. The sound of the waves and the rain on the roof is the best white noise you will find anywhere. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. If you are debating whether to stay here or not, book now! I have done a decent amount of traveling and this is my favorite spot thus far.

    Sarah2017-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I absolutely fell in love with the Bamboo House, Boca Sombrero, and it's lovely staff. The beauty and tranquility of this place were way beyond what we had imagined. We were warmly greeted and shown, by Grace, to our (5 day, 4 night) home. We quickly settled in to the open air architecture which allowed the connection with nature we were in Costa Rica to enjoy; the ocean sounds, countless varieties of birds (including a band of macaws), lizards, crabs, bats, frogs, etc.. We soon met Monika, who was pleasant and extremely knowledgeable about the area. She gave us great direction on nearby places to visit, which we enthusiastically followed, to our extreme enjoyment. A nice walk up the Matapalo beach one day, followed by a hike up a nearby river to multiple waterfalls, the canopy, and abundant wildlife (3 types of monkeys, iguanas, huge butterflies) the next. Since our stay was during the high season we were able to enjoy the delicious cuisine provided by Lily, Luke, and staff. Aside from them being a delight to talk with, the food was delicious! I would also suggest a massage with Flor, she was amazing. We can't say enough about our stay at Boca Sombrero. We hope to visit again soon!

    Jessica2015-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • Playa Sombrero is a wonderful place on Osa. The property had everything we could hope for. Being able to completely disconnect and live in the jungle was amazing. The bamboo house has given us great memories and we can't wait to get back.

  • Magical stay! This house is truly unique! Marina and Alex are just wonderful, and were very available when needed. It was really hard leaving this house and I will definitely be back. No complaints! The house is isolated enough to be away from the tourist strip but close enough that it's walking distance to everything. Marina, thank you for being an amazing host :)

    Magdalena2016-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Casa Mambo was wonderful. It's just as beautiful as the pictures and we loved spending time there. The only thing we didn't expect was the fact that Tamarindo itself was much busier and louder than we had hoped. However, the house was a great escape from the people and we loved it. Alex was wonderful and helpful throughout the process. :)

It was a very short walk into Tamarind and too the beach and my wife and I walked almost everywhere in town. Casa Mambo was one of the best experiences during our vacation in Costa Rica, my wife and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Tamarindo!

  • We had a wonderful time staying at Casa Mambo. It was just what was expected! We enjoyed being able to walk to restaurants and to the beach. We loved seeing the monkeys just outside the yard in the trees! Marina was great to work with. Communication was open and clear! We would highly recommend this house!

Our home is one of the top-rated in Costa Rica. Guests enjoy splendid views and privacy yet are close to many attractions and amenities. Experience an "authentic" Tico experience in a picturesque and friendly village just 7 km from Arenal Volcano.
Our 'Castle in The Clouds' is just seven km from Volcano Arenal, perched 700m above sea-level overlooking the volcano, rainforest, pastures and Lake Arenal. Wake to the sound of howler monkeys, toucans and parrots and enjoy your first cup of locally-grown coffee on our enormous 25 sq. m. covered deck. At night, watch the lava flows or count the stars overhead. Our home features a splash pool to cool off after a busy day of eco-adventuring. You can walk to many attractions in the village, including several quaint local restaurants. The home features casual dining indoor or out, hot water throughout, and stunning views from every room. It is completely equipped with a full-sized fridge with ice-maker, gas stove, microwave and blender and includes twice-weekly cleaning service (more often optional on request). An optional personal laundry service is also available. Active or passive, this is the perfect home base for your Arenal vacation! In the last few months, we've been busy landscaping our property. We now feature a paved driveway, a separate covered Gazebo (perfect for al fresco dining) and the yard has been completely enclosed with a custom-made 5' stone and wrought-iron fence. You'll enjoy our garden paradise yard featuring a variety of local and tropical plants designed to maximize your Costa Rica experience. Now-Book Local Tours and Attractions: Tomas and Hannah, owners of La Gavilana (www.facebook.com/lagavilanaherbsandart), our on-site hosts can now book many local tours and attractions for you on your arrival, saving you the hassle of running around. From zip-line tours, hot springs, spas and volcano hikes to a horseback ride to a real eco-farm or a two day hike through pristine rainforest, you can be as busy or as relaxed as you like, but you'll never run out of things to do in the area. Just ask Tomas when you arrive and he'll be happy to make recommendations and reservations for you.
El Castillo is an authentic Tico village. The horses and cattle will pass your door each day. The locals are very friendly and will happily stop and chat. There are a couple of small groceries in the village and several restaurants, but walk up the mountain road a bit and you will be in the jungle with spectacular views in all directions.
  • Johns house was simply great. We were super happy with the everything except the weather.. We stayed in the house with three kids (7, 4 and 1) and they we're happy with the pool and we found a lot of activities in the area even though we had quite a bit of rain.

    Bjorn2014-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very much enjoyed our stay here! The supers Hannah and Tomas (and baby Noah) were very kind and extremely helpful during our time in El Castillo. The house was just as pictured with unmatched views (the pool and yard are very small but worked for us!). Some new patio furniture outside would've been nice and a few window/door screens had holes in them but I am sure the weather takes its toll quickly in this area. We thoroughly enjoyed cooking in the spacious kitchen and having lots of tools to do so (the mandolin helped me experiment with making plantain chips). There are lots of things to do in the surrounding area (Tomas helped us with that), but a rental car with a GPS/WiFi seemed to be a must. The roads around the house are rough but manageable at slow speeds in a 4x4. All in all a very memorable stay and would highly recommend!

  • Unbelievable views and desolate location made for an off the grid experience. The place was as advertised.

  • We had an absolutely wonderful time in El Castillo! It was truly a remarkable place that will not be quickly forgotten. We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed the beautiful views and many activities nearby. The house is absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait to recommend to others and maybe even be back myself someday!

  • We had an amazing time at John's house. The views were absolutely breathtaking. You will definitely need a 4 wheel drive to get to the house. We used our Garmin GPS and bought the NAVSAT maps for Costa Rica which worked perfectly for us. We hope to be back to this wonderful house some day soon!

  • What a beautiful place! The pictures don't do it justice. Spectacular views, luxurious interior and exterior and our hosts were amazing. Such a gem! We were sad to leave.

  • We had an amazing stay in El Castillo! The view is perfect and the house is just as pictured. Tomas was very helpful and responsive; he also helped us book an excursion. The house is 20 min from most activities on the west side of the volcano and about 40 min from La Fortuna. Definitely rent a 4x4 as the last 10 km from the highway is unpaved and can be quite steep. If we ever come back to the Arenal area we would love to stay here again!

  • The place was great! The townsfolk were very friendly helpful in getting us there; it was absolutely pouring rain and Juan Tortuga called Tomas for us to let him know we were on the way. House was perfect for us! It was so nice being able to cook. Breathtaking views and great hikes just from the house. Thank you!

The casita offers a fully equipped kitchen and internet. It has a queen size bed and a single bed. It has a dinning table, shelves and a closet to hang your clothes. The casita also has an outside deck, which is facing the jungle, and is perfect for relaxation and yoga practice. There is access to massage, yoga classes and other therapeutic sessions. You can take yoga classes twice a day at the nearby yoga retreat, which is a 10 minute walk away. There is horse back riding at the nearby beach which can be organized for you. If you would like to make a campfire, it is also a possibility. The land is really big, 20 acres property, with paths that you can explore. We have two adorable cats and two friendly dogs living on the property. The big communal yoga platform is available throughout the day. Please note that we have a dry season during the months of January - April, so that there is less vegetation in the whole area of Guanacaste. Although it is in a secluded area, you can take a hike through the jungle to a beautiful beach that is a 30-40 minute walk. It's a 7 minute drive to the peaceful fishermen's beaches of San Juanillo. Stunning and powerful black sand beach is about 5 min drive away. The yoga and surf mecca Nosara is 30-40 minutes away by car. You can find a variety of restaurants, shops, bars, yoga and surfing classes in Nosara. The nearby village San Juanillo also offers a couple of very good restaurants that are catering to the tourists. Halfway between San Juanillo and Nosara there is the small village of Ostional which is perfect for turtle watching. House rules - please keep music down, no alcohol, no meat (vegetarian food only) preferably no tobacco on the land.
We are located a 7 minute drive away from a fishermen's village San Juanillo, which features some stunning beaches, as well as a couple of nice restaurants. • WOW, what a gorgeous and secluded casita in BEAUTIFUL San Juanillo. This was our favorite stop on our road trip down the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Shlomo is a fantastic host who is extremely accommodating, welcoming, and warm. We came on Sunday and the grocery store was closed, so we was kind enough to share food with us so we'd be able to cook dinner. He also makes his own falafel and hummus that he sells in town, which is a must buy if you stay with him. Delicious!! His yoga retreat is in the middle of the woods and beautiful. So relaxing, and a great getaway. If you aren't into all that nature has to offer (bugs, animals, etc.), this might not be the place for you-- we had a tree frog in our toilet, as well as spiders and geckos that visited us-- All harmless critters. But, we LOVED it. Being in nature on Shlomo's property is truly special. His property is close to the town of San Juanillo, which is arguably the most beautiful sunset the Pacific Coast has to offer. We will be back to this airbnb!

  • We loved our time at Shlomo's casita. It was everything promised, a nice relaxing stay in the jungle with easy access to the beach. Shlomo was a very responsive to our questions and the casita was as depicted in the post. Also, his dogs Flor and Chiba were very sweet and gentle. This is a great location for anyone looking for one quiet time with nature.

  • We had a wonderful time at Shlomo's beautiful casita! It was private and had everything we needed to have a relaxing time in the jungle. The casita was open and very clean and beautiful inside and we loved the breeze coming through the window at night and in the morning. It was only a stop over for a couple nights as we moved down the peninsula but Shlomo was so warm and welcoming that we would definitely come back! Few tips.. If you can rent a 4x4, it's definitely worth it. The road it off the main road a bit and a bit rough/steep. We were so glad we had a vehicle. Also, you must stop for the delicious food at Restaurente San Juanillo nearby. Some of the best tacos I've ever had, we ate there twice! Sweet family that owns it and even helped us find Shlomo's place, because it was a bit tricky to find initially. Overall, great AirBNB experience!

  • We spent three nights at the jungle casita and had a very special experience. The jungle environment, as well as the casita itself, makes you feel one with nature. We loved staying out on the back deck, swaying on the hammock in the breeze. As the sun set each evening, the jungle came to life and the roars of howler monkeys and songs of birds surrounded us. You can sit outside all night and watch the sky light up with the most amazing stars. The casita is very clean, comfortable and private. It was great to have the rustic feel without losing any modern-day conveniences. The location is close to many beautiful, sparsely populated beaches. Shlomo was an excellent host. He provided many recommendations as far as where to eat and explore. His appreciation for his guests as well as his environment is truly refreshing. We definitely felt welcome and were inspired by his respectfulness of nature.

  • La casita is a perfect place to spend a great, private, quiet time. The area is beautiful, and you'll find amazing beaches in the area nearby. Shlomo was a fantastic host, always available for anything you might need. Definitely hoping to go back sometime soon!

  • Wow! My son and I had an amazing time here. Shlomo is a genuine and kind person. He is a great host, could answer any questions we had,and made us feel very welcome. The casita was beautiful, the weather was perfect. San Juanillo was beautiful and close to many interesting things to do. I will be coming back again! I recommend this experience! I felt hugged by the jungle every night,I feel healed and invigorated after my time here, and very happy.

  • My girlfriend Kelsey and I had a great time staying with Shlomo! He was an awesome host. He was there and willing to help us with anything that we needed. We were very impressed with how he was able to make the place cozy without compromising the surrounding nature. We really enjoyed spending time with Shlomo. He's truly pura vida!

  • Shlomo has been a fantastic host. He gave us clear indications to get to the retreat center, even though it is remote in the dry forest. We arrived there at night, Shlomo was here to guide us to our wooden casita, which was simply wonderful. There is everything you need, you will only have to buy groceries before your arrival. The casitas are very private, however we were blessed to join the center's small community to share a delicious vegan meal and share experiences. We met wonderful people. Because the casitas are in the middle of the nature (which is what will make your stay unique!) I recommend using a 4X4 to get there, or motorcycles.
