  • House perfect, the view is amazing !! Everything is very well maintained, the bedding is exceptionally comfortable! Jay and Wendy are friendly and very caring. Much was made available (for free!) As eggs, milk, bread but also beer and a bottle of wine! When you know what things cost in Costa Rica is clearly not negligible (in addition to being very attentive!). We regretted not having to book one night because everything was perfect !!

  • This place was beautiful. Close to the airport, comfy beds, breakfast foods provided. However, we had a major communication problem with Jay before arriving. We ended up having to call his friend Christian as Jay was not responding. Christian was not aware we were coming, but thankfully was very helpful in getting the place ready in time. Everything ended up working out. Loved this place, aside from the communication issues.

    Claire2016-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great experience at Casa Bella and Jay's friend, Cristian, went out of his way to ensure our full satisfaction. We end up staying longer at this house because it had everything we needed, plus more. The views were awesome and the bedrooms were just perfect. I will definitely use him again.

    Cesar2015-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Jay was quick to respond to all our pre-stay queries and his friend Christian couldn't have been more helpful in getting us settled in. The house was beautiful and the amenities were so appreciated! Stocked fridge, great bath products an pdx the most comfortable beds in Costa Rica. Thanks Jay and Christian!

    YY2015-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The most underrated place on airbnb. Not only does the house have a great layout, it also has great views. Other pros: clean, very comfortable bed, great shower. The last, but not least, Jay's attention to detail made our stay nicer and more welcome: fruit on the table, eggs in the fridge for breakfast, list of local restaurants, cell phone, etc.

    Petr2014-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • The home was just as the photos show. The views from the home are the best in town - hands down! It was really comfortable for our family and in a great location. The views were spectacular. The bathrooms were luxurious. The beds were extremely comfortable. We were greeted with keys, given a wonderful introduction to the home, and felt very comfortable. There were even breakfast items available for us - total bonus!

  • We loved Casa Bella! We were warmly welcomed by Wendy who assisted us throughout our stay. Jay sent his taxi driver, Juan to pick us up at the airport which all went smoothly. The following day Juan drove us to Poas Volcano and the crafts town of Sarchi and then on our departure day, Juan drove us to Monte Verde. It was really nice to sit back and enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica. The place is as described and yes, those really are fabulous views. We enjoyed the beer, wine, fresh fruit and breakfast groceries that Jay provided and just sitting back and soaking up all the beauty.

    Ellen2015-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Casa Bella was a last minute trip and Jay was so great as we only gave him a one day notice! Our venture from Nicaragua to Costa Rica took us much longer than expected and Wendy was so considerate and kind as she waited until 11pm for our arrival! The house is gorgeous and everything you could need for a relaxing time in Costa Rica. Jay & Wendy had left drinks, fruits, fresh eggs and bread for our stay along with great recommendations from eating out to daily activities and places to explore. Wendy was so attentive and helpful during our stay and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy. The home was incredible. For starters, the bedrooms were clean and full of little necessities from towels to shampoo and soaps. The bed was insanely comfortable and soft as a cloud. The upper deck area was perfect for relaxing and enjoying some beautiful mountain views with a delicious cup of coffee in the early morning. An extra plus was a good selection of DVDs to watch during our stay! Amongst Jays recommendations, I would also recommend eating at La Finca. Chris, the owner, was so kind and as a New Yorker I don't think I've eaten a more amazing thin crust pizza than I've had here! I recommend the Vegetarian!

Beautiful, private villa with a fabulous ocean view and a secluded, infiniti pool. Very popular villa with both honeymooners and retired people. It is a prvate subdivision with 26 villas with support from rental manager and other staff. The villa is almost equal distant from both Liberia - LIR and San Jose - SJO airports. I believe it is easier to drive south from Liberia airport on a straight, scenic and paved highway.
The 3500 square feet villa is on a very private, 2/3 acre lot with ocean and rain forest views. The beautiful swimming pool is partially shaded by a picturesque "Corteza Amarillo" tree. The villa has "Almond Wood" hardwood floors in the living area including bedrooms. The full kitchen has black granite counter tops. All appliances, pots, silverware, china and coffeemaker are included in the kitchen. The gazebo has both gas Bar-B-Q and 4 burner cook-top with ocean views. Master bathroom has 2 large bowl sinks, large tub, bidet and large windows with a view of the rain forest. The house a large, flat screen TV, amplifier with whole house, surround sound, speaker system. The house has 10 fans and air conditioning. The large master bedroom has a king bed and the second spacious suite has a full bath with two queen beds. The house is on a hill top with wonderful 120 degree views of Nicoya bay and the hilltop location gives one a unique sense of Privacy with no neighbor to look in. The subdivision is 3 miles from the ferry station but it is advisable to rent an SUV so short day trips to Nicoya, Samarra, Carillo, Tambor, Paqueras ( Tortuga island snorkeling ) can be done. Renters have access to a near by grocery and liquor store. The store also provides DVDs and books free of charge. Concierge service is also included. The "Roma del Mar" development has 2 private beaches and a private pier for fishing. There are numerous beaches close by (Playa Blanca 5 kms away) and a golf course at the Tambor Bay. A one time payment of $100 is required for cleaning the villa both before and after the rental. All day maid for cooking is available through the manager and a massage specialist manicurist/ pedicurist available - reservations through management. . The internet access and the router is free. Location Description: Playa Naranjo, Puntarenas, Costa Rica (next to Cabo Blanco on (website hidden) map), Central America. Fly to Liberia Airport (Code: LIR). Two hours drive from Liberia airport and 5 minute drive from Puntarenas/Playa Naranjo Ferry.
The neighborhood is private, quite and away from busy tourist spots with plenty of things to do in the area. Our rental manager has a long list of optional tours
  • We stayed at Raj's amazing Villa a couple of weeks ago, and there are no words to express how happy we were to be spending 8days there. Raj and his wonderful staff were so accommodating, even from before we arrived in Costa Rica, we were sent so much useful information about the area and Costa Rica in general. The Villa exceeded what we were expecting from the pictures on his Profile. When we arrived at the Villa, my husband and I were both shocked at how large it was, definitely a welcomed surprise. The Villa is very clean, Really comfortable and secluded, it has all the amenities you need for your stay. We were looked after as soon as we landed in San Jose with regular communication from Raj and his staff. We enjoyed this Villa so much, on days we had planned to explore Costa Rica, we actually put it off and stayed lazing by the pool, surrounded by glorious views of Isla San Luca and Nicoya Gulf! Round of applause to you Raj and your team, you truly know how to Host! we hope to stay here again on our next visit to Costa Rica!

  • Absolutely fantastic!!!! 5 Stars!!!! We loved our stay! It is a very beautiful home, has amazing views, excellent service, just perfect. Raj was very prompt in his communications. Arlene, who manages the property, also answered all of our questions and went above and beyond to make sure we had a good stay. The house was very clean and well maintained. The pool area was immaculate. The neighborhood was quite nice, with lots of birds and nice areas to walk around. Highly recommended.

  • We stayed at the Ocean Front Villa for the first two weeks in August and had an unforgettable time. Villa was as described and even better! Raj was easily accessible and had given us some great suggestions for what to visit. We can highly recommend this Villa for anyone who is planing trip to Costa Rica.

    Lilian2016-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Raj was the best host! Everything was laid out in great detail and the Villa was better than the pictures! We were easily able to head out on day trips and had a blast at the villa enjoying the pool and outdoor kitchen for grilling. I will definitely be back!

    Bethany2015-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great, relaxing stay at Raj's wonderful home in Playa del Mar! The view is to die for!!! It was a perfectly romantic blissful place for us to spend the week. The details and recommendations provided before the trip were spot on and Caroline and others were very helpful during our stay. We can't wait to go back!!! Pura vida, Mike and Shawn Ott

  • This ocean view villa was the perfect place to begin our fabulous trip in Costa Rica. My favorite days were when we just relaxed at the villa by the pool. The vistas from the villa are spectacular...indescribable! Photos simply do not do it justice! When we arrived, Lars (rental manager) met us and showed us to our villa. We arrived in a rainstorm and the views were still awe-inspiring! The house was clean and spacious, the kitchen was well-equipped, the wifi was excellent from everywhere, even the pool, and the bedroom had air conditioning which was a bonus! We enjoyed using the hammock outside, swimming in the pool, using the outdoor shower, and dining/drinking our coffee in the rocking chairs! The developments convenience store has most of the things you would need to cook and the restaurant on site, Aroma del Mar, was delicious! (definitely try the pizzas!) We hiked along the beaches one day and stumbled upon some howler monkeys. The poolside massages we had were excellent and perfectly relaxing. We also did two excursions which hosts booked for us: the Isla Tortuga tour (boat ride, snorkeling, lunch) and the ziplining tour on the mainland! I would highly recommend staying at Raj's villa. It is immaculate and the perfect location to get away from it all. We flew into Liberia airport and drove down and the drive was very easy. You do need a 4 wheel drive!

  • I don't think any amount of words would do this place justice. If you're thinking twice, honestly, just book it, and get ready for the most relaxing and tranquil vacation of your life! The Airbnb photos, while immaculate, don't portray what a slice of heaven this place is, that's just something you have to wait to experience when you get there. My friends and I had our mouths gaping open from awe from the moment we walked in, to the sad, sad moment we had to check out. The infinity pool is a place we'd spend 6+ hours at a time during our day, and honestly, we ended up wanting to spend time there instead of going and seeing other places in Costa Rica, because it was just that amazing. The property managers are amazing, Jenny, Lars, and Caroline really took care of us and helped us with everything during our stay. The rooms had AC, the bathrooms were amazing, there is a restaurant on site, and a store where you can buy a few key essentials. Get ready for an awesome vacation!

  • This house is amazing!! Everything about it was perfect. I came to CR for my 26 birthday with my boyfriend.Villa is Pretty much on the beach only a 3 minute walk. BEAUTIFUL view, so peaceful & relaxing. Really did have all the amenities you could need. TV,blue ray player, wifi, everything! The Bose sound system through out the entire villa is what we really enjoyed as well as the beautiful infinity pool over looking the ocean. Also a plus was the ferry is very close to the villa approx 7 min drive (due to dirt roads). Arlene the property manger was very helpful with questions & bookings. Another great thing was we got massages right on the back patio, didn't have to leave. The villa was very clean upon arrival , & all in all we REALLY enjoyed our stay. Would totally stay in the villa for future trips. It was great :) Thank you Raj for hosting us! We loved it

Santa Fe style home, twice in Architectural Digest of Costa Rica. Acres of gorgeous gardens, 40 ft waterfall, 20 min from airport. 15 acres of private forest. Internet access. 3+ bedrooms 2 1/2 bath, office. Beautiful kitchen. Driver available. Gardener can help take you to the waterfall on the property. Great local restaurants, look at airbnb guidebook. Early check in possible some days, $10 fee given to guard so they come early. Read the airbnb house manual for good tips, very important!
Santa Fe style home, with rare recycled woods. Acres of beautiful gardens, view of valley. Smell of jasmine and gardenias. 15 acres of included forest and 40ft waterfall, yet only 20 min to airport! Mi Kiva was designed by a famous architect that created very warm feeling by using recycled rare rosewood and other wood and 100+ year old tile in some locations to add texture and visual interest. Mi Kiva has a sensory surprise around every corner, and is super relaxing.
Other neighboring beautiful executive homes form a close-knit neighborhood. Safe, no crime. Many neighbors have purchased acres of forest across the creek/river. In addition to our 15 acres, the others combine to be some of the last original forest in the area so close to San Jose. Mi Kiva sits on 2 acres with executive homes bordering with similar lot sizes. There is a small bridge that gives access to the adjoining Mi Kiva owned property that has paths and is rain forest. Poas and La Paz Waterfall gardens nearby. With cautious speeds 45 minutes drive. Zip lining and hiking available on Barva, or hike the property.
  • We enjoyed our 2 nights at the house, the views were stunning, particularly the sunset. The master bedroom is very comfortable. It is close to the San Jose and it was ideal for us to have a relaxing stay before taking on adventures throughout the remote areas of the country.

  • The house is beautiful and the property divine! Ideal for holidays with family or friends.

    Natasha2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • very beautiful place, the pictures don't do it justice.

    Andrew2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Magical? yes. Lives up to the past reviews and photos? yes. It is a truly wonderful place and we loved our stay. The home and gardens are beautiful and it is in a mountainside location in the Central Valley. We visited Poas volcano park and took the Britt coffee tour and did a cloudforest zipline all within one hour drives of the home. The hike to the warterfall behind the house was so cool! We found food shopping a bit of a challenge as requests for directions to a supermercado led to some very interesting results! But locals are friendly and helpful if you speak Spanish. We hope that we will visit again someday. Thank you Gerald!!!!

    Lisa2017-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Gerald's home is a magical place! It far exceeded our expectations. The house is beautiful and the property...well you have to see it to believe it. What a treat! We opted for Gerald's taxi service to and from the airport and Mikael was extremely friendly and reliable. We highly recommend Gerald's home!

    Steph2017-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely gorgeous house in an amazing location. The house is huge and very private. You can't hear or see any neghbors. The courtyard and yard are impeccably maintained. The trails are also very well maintained and easily navigatable. It's really like having an entire nature presere all to yourself. We deffinetly will be coming back!

    Jon2017-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful and beautiful space that invites you to relax and enjoy nature!

  • My wife and I stayed with Andy just recently. Our villa absolutely lived up to the positive reviews on the site. The space was welcoming and spacious. The kitchen was well-stocked, the beds were comfortable and the villa was very clean. Our favorite part was definitely the patio - the view was breathtaking. Andy was incredibly attentive and responsive to our thousands of questions. We hope we weren't too annoying, but Andy made us feel at home. It's true that the hill up to the villa can be a bit of a hike, but while we were there, Andy helped us get a ATV. I would absolutely recommend this, it was really fun zipping around Mal Pais on one!

    David2015-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • Just an amazing view. Beautiful place that I would certainly come back to again.

    Brian2012-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place. Plenty of space and everything you need for a short or long stay. Kitchen has enough to throw together a nice meal. Views can't be beat.

  • This is a very Beautiful, tranquil place to stay. The road getting to it is steep but well worth the drive. We took the ferry to get there that was a good choice :) Everything was nice, comfortable and we enjoyed our time here. Thank you :)

    Federico2016-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing! Great location with easy access to the beautiful beaches/surf. Santa Teresa is a awesome beach town with a relaxed and friendly vibe. Communication with the property owner (Andrew) was easy and making reservations simple. The on-site property manager (Andy) is outstanding and her two friendly dogs are adorable. We arrived late in the evening (well after check-in) but were greeted by a nice message on the pool side whiteboard from Andy and had no problems finding our room. I definitely recommend staying here and will visit again!

    Trevor2016-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Surf Vista Villa's was exactly what I had hoped for. The views are amazing! Very peaceful, unless you are treated to a wake up call by Howler Monkeys, which is an experience in and of itself. The rooms were well kept, and spacious, and the bathroom as well. Andy was a great host who gave us some needed advice when asked, and otherwise let us keep to ourselves. I will be going back as often as i can!

Stay in a cozy 1 BR or 2 BR, upscale Costa Rican-style bungalows with a pristine pool at your doorstep. Look out over the trees to the Pacific ocean from your private balcony and listen to the birds and howler monkeys that call the gardens of Casa Tranquila home.
This one-bedroom architect-designed bungalow comes fully equipped for short stays and month-long getaways. It's perfect for honeymooners or families with up to two kids, as well as small groups of friends. The kitchenette has everything you'll need to eat at home if you wish. The bungalow has a comfy bed, air conditioning throughout, a daybed that fits two people in the living space. The bathroom has a huge glassed-in shower with a big window to the gardens, where monkeys pass regularly. Just outside your door is a cool swimming pool and wooden deck for relaxing, as well as plenty of hammocks. Casa Tranquila was designed with sustainability in mind. The property takes advantage of sea breezes for passive cooling, minimizing the need for A/C. The gray water from your bungalow feeds into the trees and other plants that surround the property instead of washing into the ocean.
Casa Tranquila is located on a hill in a quiet, residential neighborhood of Tamarindo – far enough from the busy downtown that you won't be kept awake by the parties but close enough that you're just a 10 minute walk away from the center of town or 14 minutes to the beach.
  • The bungalow was a great place to stay while in tamarindo. You are located above the bustle of town (and have roosters next door that let you know!). The front porch is an excellent place for bird watching and the pool (just steps away) offers a way to cool down any time of day. If driving in, your car is safe inside the gate but parking is a bit tight. Jose is available to answer questions but does not intrude on any of comings and goings. The place is a fun and easy place to stay in

    Mary Ann2015-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • A quaint little haven tucked away in Tamarindo. Jose has put a lot of thought and creativity in to his property to make a welcoming and relaxing 'home away from home'. We really enjoyed our stay and if ever back in Tamarindo, I'd love to be a guest once more. Thanks for your hospitality, Jose!

    Kasey2014-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Casa Tranquila is about the best way for a family to visit busy Tamarindo. Jose was present and available at his own home in the same compound, but we felt we had our own place. We were welcomed by Jose and the nice chocolate labs, given information and left alone. We were trusted and respected and enjoyed returning to this safe, peaceful place. We will come again.

    Dave2014-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • This place couldn't have been more perfect. The pictures didn't do it justice! The grounds were immaculately kept, and so beautiful! We woke up to howler monkeys every morning, and fell asleep to the crickets every night. The wildlife at the house was more impressive than anywhere else we traveled. The location was ideal. About a ten minute walk from shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and the beach! We took a shuttle from the airport, and never felt the need for a rental car or taxi during our stay. We would highly recommend Casa Tranquila!

    Leah2016-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I spent a week at Casa Tranquila in October 2014. Jose was a wonderful host, welcoming and helpful, booked the airport shuttle for us and recommended a few places in town for rentals and stuff. The place was great, perfect size, fully furnished kitchen that pretty much had everything you need. AC in bedroom. Bungalow is located off the main strip, approx 1 km walking distance, which was fine for us as we were looking forward to some peace, quiet and quality R&R. The bungalow we stayed in was one of 3 on the property, nonetheless, very well situated on the property along with the fact that there isn't much surrounding it, we had absolute solitude and privacy. Our bungalow had a separate bedroom with a queen size bed and an additional daybed in the kitchen area; would be best for a couple, couple with one child or 3 adults. The kitchen patio overlooks the hill onto the ocean in the distance, has 2 comfortable chairs, a small table and a hammock in front of it. The property is safe, gated and guarded by 2 friendly brown labs. The outdoor pool was very nice, although we didn't use it much, but a big plus. Overall the bungalow and the property were well kept. We spent wonderful 7 days in Casa Tranquila. Tamarindo is a great small surfer town, but has enough restaurants and bars to keep anyone busy as preferred. We loved our vacation in Costa Rica.. miss it already:) Would certainly come back to Casa Tranquila and recommend it to family and friends. Pura Vida!

  • Thank you very much, all very well, spent a few precious days, the room, the bathroom, all in perfect condition and very comfortable. to improve the kitchen cabinet, I think quality instead would increase by 100%. The ecolodge been awarded with a 'Certificate of Excellence' every year since opening by TripAdvisor, was designed by award winning Architect Franco Casalvolone (FCB Arquitectura) and has been awarded with the Airbnb 'Super Host' badge for the last three consecutive seasons as well! This is the place for guests who want to disconnect, be ‘off-grid’ and get away from it all. It’s for those of you who have a sense of adventure, are up for trying something new, enjoy bumpy and steep roads in a 4x4 and who, come rain or shine, won’t let the weather stop them from doing what they want. It’s an adrenalin junkies paradise, perfect for those who want to wake up to the sounds of monkeys, trek through the jungle and jump in a freshwater plunge pool all before breakfast! It’s for the nature lovers among you who will no doubt discover animals of all shapes and sizes throughout their stay both on our lodge’s doorstep and with perhaps, the occasional smaller visitor inside. It's for the venturesome globetrotter who doesn't mind the occasional cold shower or the intense heat or humidity as the season dictates. It’s for new age travellers who are ready to respect, accept and embrace a different and more laid back culture than perhaps they’re used to ‘back home’. It’s for those of you that are happy with less and don't constantly strive for more more more, as we’ve tried to incorporate the ‘pure life’ lifestyle that Costa Rica’s Zona Sur offers in abundance into the design of our lodge, so it’s the perfect getaway for those who are ready to arrive with their minds and eyes wide-open, for guests that seek romance, beauty, fun and adventure. This is, as they say, the ‘real' Costa Rica as our beautiful and breezy location, at an altitude of just over 300 meters and with over 3 acres of private land, boasts stunning panoramic sea views over the lush valleys towards the meandering 'Rio Terraba' and directly faces the Pacific Ocean, Costa Rica's spectacular sunsets and the world famous National Parks - Isla del Caño & Osa Peninsula. The most magical times are the early mornings and late afternoons where you can sit back with a freshly made juice or a glass of wine and be a spectator of nature with monkeys, pizotes, parrots and toucans all frequently visiting the lodge and it's surrounding reserve. Pura Vida Ecolodge is a peaceful sanctuary to experience and embrace the 'Pura Vida' (Pure Life). A destination where guests can enjoy not only a memorable holiday, but tranquility, adventure and equilibrium in a utopia second to none. Our private 'Eco-Chic' retreat is your chance to relax and truly let go, to welcome an organic, integral experience for contemplation, rejuvenation and nurturing among friends, family and loved ones. We have our own nature trails, waterfalls & natural plunge pools both near the ecolodge & on the edge of the Pura Vida Ecolodge Reserve - the easiest trail starts right by the ecolodge, with more challenging treks on the edge of the reserve just a short up-hill walk (300m) from the lodge. Your adventure can be as extreme or relaxing as you choose with a plethora of natural swimming pools, waterfalls and rock faces to explore! Whether you are honeymooners, a group of friends or a large family of 7, you will have the entire ecolodge just to yourselves. We have also planted lots of trees, so please be our guests and pick any of the fruits they are all obviously 100% organic! If you venture off any of the paths, take your boots and maybe a hiking pole. We are just a 10-15 minute drive (depending on season & road conditions) from the Costa Nera Highway allowing guests to easily explore the area with day trips to two of Costa Rica's most popular national parks (Manuel Antonio & Corcovado), stunning beaches (Playa Arco, Tortuga y Ventanas are our three favourites) and our concierge service can help with tours and boat trips, trekking options, scuba diving & snorkelling trips, kayaking, stand up paddling, surfing, hiking, mountain biking, canyoning, canopy lines and horse riding etc. The nearby village of Ojochal (just 5 minutes up the Costa Nera) is one of a few local villages hosting a whole load of fine dining and fusion restaurants or if you'd prefer to relax 'at home' we can happily arrange home-cooked 'tico' meals, food parcels (according to the season, fresh fish, ceviche and seafood all available) and fruit baskets to be delivered direct to the Jungle Villa. ECO-TRAVEL - Eco-travel in Costa Rica is your ticket to explore a plethora of amazing places that care just as much about the environment as they do about their guests. It's a country where 'organic' is as important as 'stylish', and the government plans to make it the world's first carbon-neutral country by 2021. ‘Pura vida' is Costa Rica's national motto, and for good reason. It's a real paradise: Our guests can enjoy the 'pure life' in some of the world's most bio-diverse jungles, rain forests and coastlines. The country's book-ended by beaches on its Pacific and Caribbean sides (hence the laid-back surfer ethos that characterizes coastal life) and inland, nature holds way: a full quarter of Costa Rica is protected land, from the smouldering volcanoes to dense jungles. In the highlands, farms and plantations produce delicious tropical fruit – as well as some of the finest coffee ever to grace your espresso PURA VIDA ECOLODGE FAQs: - WILL I NEED A 4x4 CAR? Yes, our retreat is situated 5km from the coast and the village of Coronado on a well maintained gravel road into the coastal mountains. A 4WD car is necessary. There is a convenience store or “soda" as they are called in Costa Rica, at the Coronado junction, where you can get the majority of your groceries and supplies. For supermarkets, restaurants/bars, beaches, bigger stores, etc. you would require transportation to the local towns of Ojochal (5 mins), Uvita (15 mins) up the Costa Nera Highway. Several taxi services are available but you cannot beat the independence of having your own 4WD. Driving time from San Jose is around 3.5 hours. Full details & directions in welcome pack TIP: Bring coins and change from the US or change colones for the highway tolls! - WHO SHOULD I RENT OUR 4WD WITH? We have been working with Vamos Rent-a-Car since we opened. They speak English and they have various offices around the country (Near San Jose Airport and Dominical amongst others). They will meet you off your flight or even at your hotel if you're setting off early in the morning. Be sure to mention us and Pura Vida Ecolodge to get the best prices & treatment. You should allow around an hour for vehicle collection and paperwork. - IS THERE SOMEONE IN COSTA RICA WHO CAN ASSIST ME WHILE I AM THERE? Yes, once you book Pura Vida Ecolodge, you will be sent the welcome pack which includes all the details of our housekeeper and his wife, who together with myself and Kika, will double up as your 'concierge service' leading up to and throughout your stay. Though our housekeepers are Spanish speaking only, they are very knowledgeable on the area and will be there at checkin & checkout and can help you throughout your stay with anything you might need. I'm sorry we cannot be there but you'll be in very good hands, Gersan & Ili are practically family! - IS THERE A BEACH NEARBY THAT IS EASY TO GET TO? Yes, in fact you are really quite spoilt for choice. Playa Tortuga is the nearest and possibly one of our favourites. Once down at the Costa Nera, it is just a 5 minute drive up the coast. A short drive further up the coast takes you to Playa Piñuelas, Playa Ventanas and then the stunning national park of Marina Ballena and Uvita. Full directions (including which beaches are best for swimming and surfing etc is included in your welcome pack). -HOW EASY IS IT TO FIND PURA VIDA ECOLODGE? Upon confirming your reservation, we send all our guests a welcome pack with very clear directions including photos of landmarks along the way. This is updated monthly as we aim to give all our guests as up-to-date info and recommendations as possible -ARE THERE RESTAURANTS AND SHOPPING NEARBY? Ojochal is the nearest town with a really good selection of fine & casual dining. You can find Fusion, Italian, Asian, “Typical Costa Rican," even a deli/bakery and a handful of great fruit smoothie and ceviche places. Further up the coast there is Uvita, again with a good balance of International and 'local' options. We include a full list of recommendations (both restaurants & bars) in the welcome pack. For shopping, you may wish to visit the bustling tourist town of Manuel Antonio (50-60 minutes drive north) which has souvenir, jewellery, and art/craft shops and many lively restaurants (we recommend a trip to Manuel Antonio, anyway, for the national park, which a lot of our guests do either on the way down or on the way back up to San Jose. -ARE THERE EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES CLOSE BY? Yes, yes, yes! Again, you can find more details on the Pura Vida Ecolodge web site, but there are spectacular waterfalls, nature trails and plunge pools right in the reserve itself. The surrounding area offers world class scuba diving, snorkelling, zip-lining, boat tours, mangrove tours, hiking, stand-up paddling, horseback tours, canyoning, as well as being located between the country's best national parks (Corcovado & Manuel Antonio) and a 20 minute drive from Marina Ballena National Park. There are dozens of picturesque, quiet beaches all the way up and down the Southern Pacific coast, with enough activities and adventures on offer to do something completely different every day! We can also recommend great day trips to the Osa Peninsula, Sierpe and Nuayaca Falls amongst others and an overnight option to Mt Chirripo is incredible if you have the time. For surfers, Playa Dominical has a famous left and right beach surf break, and waves 95% of the year. Closer to the lodge, Playa Tortuga and Ventanas often have good waves more for beginners or if you're after an almost private beach and wildlife experience, you can have breakfast or lunch at La Cusinga and then explore the different monkey colonies. if you're lucky you might spot some Red Scarlet Macaws and guests also regularly see lots of toucans and different types of parrots. The 10-min walk through the jungle down to Playa Arco is well worth the trek! -IS IT A QUIET NEIGHBOURHOOD? Yes, Pura Vida Ecolodge is the best of both worlds. While being a completely private retreat and reserve (both the house, pool and the surrounding nature trails) with it's orientation meaning that the property literally hangs over the jungle canopy on one side and directly faces the Pacific coast on the other, you will have a handful of neighbours nearby in the slowly growing community if you wanted a friendly chat or even some more tips on the area. -IS THERE A GROCERY STORE NEARBY? There is a good little 'pulperia' (small local store) on the crossroads at Coronado (around 5km away) that will most likely have most things you would need. There is also a great fish/seafood place just 1 km from the Coronado junction. For larger shopping, there are two big supermarkets ( as well as a really good Pharmacy) in Uvita, about 15 minutes up the coast -DOES THE ECOLODGE HAVE INTERNET AND CAN I PURCHASE A LOCAL CELL NUMBER? Yes, the house is equipped with WiFi for internet connection and you can even purchase a sim card for around $4 (around 2000 colones) by the luggage claim in the airport, you just need a passport. Sim card is technically free as you can use all of the funds with calls. While cellphone signals have greatly improved in the country, there are some spots around Coronado that don't have reception but there is consistently good signal in and around Pura Vida Ecolodge. Please note that while the WIFI/hotspot is fine for emails and checking the news etc, please don’t expect to be able to stream movies as it's only 3G speed. -WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE? A more detailed description of Costa Rica's seasons can be found on the Pura Vida Ecolodge web site, but in general you can expect about 85+ degrees at the beach year round. The only difference in climate year round is that May-November is the "green," or rainy season, and December through March/April is the dry season. The temperature up at the Ecolodge is always a few degrees cooler because it is around 1000ft. elevation, and you get great mountain breezes. Likewise, because of its proximity to the equator, the sunrise is around 5-5.30am with the sunsetting at 5.30-6pm. The ‘Green season's' rains are quite welcoming, it's always hot and the partial clouds and afternoon rains are soothing. Typically the rains start on the mountains between 2-4pm, maybe a little later by beach. For us, the best times of the day are between 5-7am. The congo monkeys will wake you up, and it's the most glorious part of the day and besides you'll most likely be asleep by 8/9pm! It's amazing how quickly you'll adjustment! -WHICH ROOMS HAVE AIR CONDITIONING? Both bedrooms/suites have A/C: the Ocean View Suite on the first floor, and the Jungle View Suite on the ground floor. Please note there is not A/C throughout the rest of the home, but there are ceiling fans in each room and the Ecolodge has been designed with your comfort in mind, with large-open plan living spaces, surrounded by sliding doors leading out onto the wrap around decks which mean there are lovely fresh sea-breezes throughout. -WILL I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING WITH ME? You need not bring any household items as all bedding, tableware, towels, cookware etc are all provided. We also provide a wonderful fruit basket and some other local delicacies on arrival. Bring only your personal items, and of course a sense of 'Pura Vida' adventure! -IS PURA VIDA ECOLODGE A PRIVATE LOCATION? Yes, not only is the location incredibly private but regardless of your group size, you will have the entire retreat (house and surrounding reserve) just to yourselves. A lot of our guests are honeymooners and couples, as well as groups of friends and entire families. Either way, whether you are 2 people or a group of 6 with kids, you will have the entire property to yourself. - IS COSTA RICA SAFE? In general Costa Rica is very safe, however petty crimes do happen especially by the beaches or touristy areas. Do not bring any valuables to Costa Rica with you and especially do not bring them with you to the beach. TIP: Leave the glove department open to indicate it's empty.
The neighbourhood offers guests peace and quiet and has an abundance of nature and stunning flora and fauna. You can wake with the sounds of the congo howler monkeys and watch the sunset as the toucans fly right by the house. There are nature trails and waterfalls just a short walk away plus plenty of adventures on Pura Vida Ecolodge's doorstep!
  • Arriving late in the afternoon sunshine at Pura Vida ecolodge in the sumptuous Costa Rican jungle felt like arriving in the Garden of Eden! The whole experience was magical and unique and was enhanced by Joe and Kika's attention to detail; they've thought of everything to make our stay as comfortable and life-enriching as possible. The villa is spacious, thoughtfully designed and beautiful; natural and harmoniously respectful of the surrounding beauty by minimsing the impact of our stay. We spent many a warm, sunny afternoon on the outdoor teak deck contemplating the beauty of where we were. The trails and walks from the villa down to the waterfalls in the jungle were great fun and I particularly enjoyed working out on the new yoga deck (a new addition apparently) with views over the jungle and on towards the ocean. The infinity pool is so cool! Such stunning views - I can think of very few places in the world where I can relax in a plunge pool with breath-taking views over the rainforest to the sea. Some memorable afternoons were spent there! Finally, I'd really recommend Gersan's boat trip; another entirely new and unique experience for us; beautiful wildlife through the mangroves to Gersan's 'secret' island; coconut's and galla pinto on a deserted beach in a tropical paradise.....and we didn't see another soul!! Thanks Gersan. Unique one in a life time experience - can't recommend it highly enough. Thank you Joe and Kika.

  • A beautiful little house in the middle of the jungle! We really enjoyed the stay - it was soo relaxing.

  • This house is wonderful, set high up in the jungle with the most spectacular view. It is exactly as described. If you are ready for a little adventure, being immersed in the wild and completely disconnecting then you won't be disappointed. The drive up to the house from the highway is a bit intimidating at first, but after a couple goes, you get the hang of it and it is a piece of cake as long as you have a 4x4. I went with my husband and 2.5 yr old son and my sister and her husband. The house suited the 5 of us perfectly. Just a forewarning/reminder - you are in Costa Rica in the middle of the jungle, so be prepared to find yourself face to face with many little critters. Hosts were very easy to communicate with via air bnb and their onsite guy, Gersan, is lovely.

  • The Pura Vida ecolodge is exactly what is promised and Joe and Kika are great hosts. The house is gorgeous and the location is remote! Seriously, make sure you rented a 4x4 to go here because you are on top of the world in this amazing location.

  • Our experience at the Ecolodge was amazing! The house itself is beautiful nestled on a hilltop surrounded by lush greenery. The pictures definitely don't do it justice. Its the best place to relax and get away from everything. It was amazing going to sleep with the sounds of the forest and waking up with birds chirping. There is a great lookout which is perfect for yoga (mats are available in the house). There are lots of trails to enjoy nearby including one that takes you to a beautiful waterfall/river. We really enjoyed our time here! Gersan is awesome! He was able to help us tremendously during our visit and is very resourceful. Just a quick note that its crucial to rent a 4X4 to get up the hill. There is no way to get otherwise.

  • In you love jungle combined with style, if you like a little adventure but still sleep comfortably at night, the Pura Vida Ecolodge is a great place for you. We stayed four nights in the lodge and had a great time. The way to the lodge is not trivial however we were provided with excellent instructions and had no trouble finding it. Having a 4x4 car is a must! And beware of the alternative Punta Mala route, it is not well maintained at all, therefore should not be used at night or in heavy rain. The little dart frogs surrounding the lodge are a fantastic extra and the view is hard to beat. The beaches along the coast are very special since they are kept natural. No deck chairs or bars but pure nature.

  • We had an absolutely amazing week at Pura Vida Ecolodge. The house and yoga deck are absolutely gorgeous and spending time in the pool with its amazing views of the rainforest and the coast was simply paradise. We stayed at the lodge with our one-year old and had a vacation we will never forget. For any other family considering the lodge: The house is a dream come true - even for the kids. The nature (waking up with the jungle in the very early morning) with all its sounds and animals fascinated even our very little one. The house has every comfort possible to make for a perfect base to explore the surroundings with its hiking paths, waterfalls and beaches. For anyone traveling with smaller kids, we recommend bringing a child carrier, which made hiking through the jungle easy and a great experience for everyone. Our favorite most kid-friendly beach was Playa Ventanas with a lot of shade and beautiful scenery. Favorite restaurant was El Jardin, the local fish place recommended by Joe & Kika, where we stopped nearly daily for lunch. Gersan could not have been a more welcoming and was always available and helped in any way possible. Joe and Kika were amazing hosts and answered any question within minutes and it was great to meet Joe in person when we departed and to hear their story on how they build this little piece of paradise. Don't get scared by the drive up to the house - the feeling of remoteness and nature up in the house is more than worth the bumpy road. Yes - it's steep but totally safe and easy with a 4x4. We arrived in the dark and even that was not a big deal even though arriving in the daylight is probably even easier. Our stay at Pura Vida was more than special and one that we will never forget. The view and nature surrounding the property will make you speechless and we truly hope to be able to return.

  • Our stay at Pura Vida Ecolodge was way beyond anything we could have imagined or expected! The open-air plan gave us a wonderful feeling of being immersed in the tropical jungle. Awakening every morning to the rising sun and the sound of Howler monkeys, sea surf and many many birds was spectacular! We so thoroughly enjoyed our Mangrove / River / Deserted Beach tour with Gersan and Ili. This is truly a special way to engage with the real goodness of Costa Rican people and is not to be missed! We can't find enough good words to say about our whole experience here and we're already thinking about how to go back again.

  • Phil is a wonderful host and has a spectacularly beautiful property! Close to town of Isidro and a short drive to La Paz waterfalls (about an hour), the coffee gardens were a great stay. We absolutely loved Phil's friendly dogs and cat. If you go, make sure to spend some time in Phil's "meditation gardens" they're really magical.

  • The rental is for a private room rather than an apartment. Very clean. No dishes or utensils to prepare food (fridge and microwave only) or to sit outside the room. Location easily accessible and far from everything. You absolutely need to (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map to find you!

  • We had a amazing time staying at Phil's Coffee Ranch, what a wonderful introduction to the country of Costa Rica. We were welcomed with incredible hospitality, and it was fun to hear about cool things to do in the country as well as share our plans. Thanks in part to a recommendation from Phil's daughter we went to Baldi Hot Springs in Arenal and absolutely loved it. The grounds are beautiful and very peaceful (it was fun getting a tour), and the room had everything we needed. An awesome place to stay and wasn't too hard to find from the airport. Also, Phil did a great job checking in with us before the trip, making sure we had directions, helping us know what to expect, etc. Oh, and the breakfast was perfect, served of course with some of the best coffee that I've ever had! :)

    Ben2013-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay at this little gem near San Jose! Our host, Phil, was incredibly welcoming. We got in early in the morning, and he served us breakfast and brewed us coffee as soon as we arrived. He was super helpful on giving us tips on where to eat and what to see, and made several phone calls to book us cabs and check on local attractions. The room was clean, the gardens beautiful, and the neighborhood in a convenient locations. Would definitely stop back again if we were in the neighborhood. Thanks for a great stay, Phil!

    Marci2014-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • Unfortunately, we were only a night on the Coffee Ranch by Phil Since the afternoon was even bad weather, we had no opportunity to admire the garden. However, the accommodation itself was fine, nicely decorated and very clean. We can chat with Phil only briefly, but he made a very nice impression. During the day you vieliert on the way to the airport, unfortunately a lot of time in Heredia.

    Sabine2014-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • Phil was a very welcoming and helpful host and his place is absolutely amazing. Just a short drive from San Jose airport following his very clear directions and we were surrounded by a beautiful scenery and enjoying a very comfortable room with everything we needed. We arrived pretty late and tired and Phil straight away called for a delicious pizza for us and gave us our first papaya shake of the trip... Delicious! I would definitely recommend anyone staying there and we are stopping there again on our last night before heading back home.

  • Our stay at the coffee ranch was fantastic. We stayed here our first and last night in Costa Rica. The grounds and gardens are absolutely beautiful. Phil was very friendly and accommodating. He even gave us great advice that drastically improved our trip. The coffee and breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed talking with Phil in the mornings. The rooms were very clean and well taken care of. Phil even upgraded us to the guest house on our second night and it was great. Most importantly, the cat, Gizmo, is amazing as are the 3 dogs.

  • Such a great place to stay way up in the hills. A lot cooler up there if you come during the dry/hot season. Lots to walk around and see in the gardens and it's a really lovely view of San Jose and the valley below. The room is nice, kept clean, and big enough to spend some time in (it can rain every so often). The bed was comfortable, the shower was good. No complaints at all there. The gardens really make the place though -- a maze to explore, get lost in and escape the city! Didn't get a chance to meet Phil, but Tania was a great, great host. There's a lot of love in this nice spot up on the hill! The town is a 10-15 minute walk, though hilly. Los Potreros is one of the better bars/restaurants around (on the hill, good for sunsets and views).

Experience Costa Rica in this zen-like modern home surrounded by 40-acres of tropical forest, across from one of the most beautiful palm-lined beaches in Costa Rica! Watch toucans and many other exotic birds from the deck, or take a nature tour around the spring-fed lake, that is home to the famous Basilisk or 'Jesus Christ' lizard, as well as turtles, tiger-throated herons, and spectacled caiman. The property is centrally located close to markets, restaurants, and national parks. Pura Vida!
Nestled on a hill off the Costanera, this modern home appeals to those who appreciate nature and simple design. Although the home is built with exposed concrete and has a minimalist feel, it is surrounded by natural landscaping and has magnificent views of the surrounding area. The home has an open floor-plan consisting of the living room, dining room, and kitchen upstairs, which leads to a private deck. Downstairs is the laundry and guest bathroom, which connects to the outdoor shower area and three bedrooms.
Playa Bejuco is home to one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica! It is perfect for surfing, horseback riding, or simply enjoying one of the most awe-inspiring sunsets you've ever seen. There are some great restaurants within a mile from the property and many others in the towns of Jaco, Quepos, and Manuel Antonio. We are always happy to recommend our favorites!
  • We loved staying at this house! Rosie was easy to coordinate with when we arrived and the house itself is great. It's close to several restaurants and a big market in the Esterillos town center and Bejuco nearby. We spent a lot of time at Playa Bejuco but it's not far from multiple great beaches and a few other towns as well. We drove to Manuel Antonio and Rosie was helpful with tips for the area. The house is spacious and very modern, with nice outdoor spaces- multiple patios and a great pool. It was perfect for just the two of us, but there is a second bedroom with its own private sitting area and bathroom so the house would also be awesome for families and groups of friends. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is A/C throughout so we were very comfortable. There is a caretaker on-site and the property feels secure. We walked around the lake and a short way up the trails and saw lots of birds and animals. Overall an excellent place to stay!

  • Rosie's place is comfy and welcoming. She did an amazing job at making me feel informed and secured. The property is like the pictures, modern and private. There's gorgeous wildlife to observe, from above to in between rocks! I am grateful for being given the opportunity to stay in her beautiful zen retreat.

    Raru2017-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay for our honeymoon was absolutely amazing. We suggest renting a four by four for sure to get around it's fairly easy to navigate to any one of all the amazing beaches. Manuel Antonio was one of our favorites, but bejuco beach is stones throw away and it is amazing as well. Our host gave us plenty of helpful tips and we're very accommodating for everything. The place itself did not disappoint either it was very nice even when there was one crazy jungle thunderstorm it was amazing to watch from inside the house never once felt like we were in danger. The pool was one of our favorite things about the house it was very nice to just take a dip to cool off and relax! I would recommend this place as a stay.

  • Rosie and Bruno's place is located just off a major route on a peaceful farm property. Close to beautiful stretches of beach. We had a very nice stay!

    Heather2017-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • Rosie and Bruno provided us with everything we needed for a wonderful experience on our 1st trip to Costa Rica. They were wonderful with our check-in/check-out and daily needs, it couldn't have been easier. They also provided several suggestions for places to eat and exciting day trips including hiking/swimming at Rainmaker & Nauyacas Falls and kayaking through a mangrove forest with Cambute Mangrove Tours to see rare Capuchin monkeys. In fact, we saw more wildlife right out our kitchen window than some of the hiking tours including Squirrel Monkeys and tons of birds (if you get up early enough!). This trip was the best that my wife, 2 daughters and I have ever taken and Rosie, Bruno and the Zen Retreat were a big part of that experience. We will definitely return to this beautiful country.

    Randall2017-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • The house was quite lovely, just about as pictured. Rosie and Bruno were fantastic hosts! They were very swift to respond to questions or issues and were so helpful with providing a list of things to do. They also offer surfing lessons! My friend and I spent several hours learning to surf and it was definitely a highlight! We actually were able to get up and ride a few waves thanks to Bruno and Rosie! The area is beautiful, the beaches were amazing and the people were so friendly. Definitely a great trip!

    Amanda2016-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • The space is as gorgeous and wonderful as the pictures paint it out to be. Rosie is an outstanding host who makes herself available, provides great suggestions for the Costa Rican experience and was always there to offer assistance when needed. We loved the home and found the entire week we were there to be magical. We will all definitely return to Costa Rica again in the future! Oh, and I don’t want to forget Claribel, who was a blessing and as kind as they come. We truly appreciated her help during our stay.

    Nicki2017-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • For me and my friend, this was hands down the best Airbnb experience we've ever had. SO glad we didn't get a hotel room. The property and the house was absolutely the best! There was nothing not to love about it: the tall sliding glass doors that gives you a perfect view day or night, the outside shower, the pool with the perfect water temperature and the property itself. We enjoyed it so much we had to stay an extra night. Now there was the trip that we had planned and then there was the trip we ended up having all because of Rosie and her family. Rosie was the best! Great with communication during the duration of our trip as well as before. She recommended so many great restaurants, sights and activities from snorkeling, zip-lining, waterfalls to see and even massages! That make house calls!! We got the opportunity to take surfing lessons from her husband, Bruno, which was such an awesome time and experience. Bruno is a great teacher and warned us that it can become addicting and he was. We also had the opportunity to spend the day with her, Bruno and there two kids going snorkeling and visited an animal reserve where we saw monkeys, birds and even ate fruit straight from the trees. It was such a wonderful time. I just don't see how I could stay anywhere else when I return to Costa Rica

Cabina Blanca - tucked away at the top of a gated community with lovely views of the Pacific ocean, the beach a short walk and the towns of Tamarindo and Flamingo only 25 min. away. Roomy, queen bed, private patio.
This space is a completely self contained guest house, about 15 feet away from the main house. With an abundance of natural light, this unique oasis is cozy and inviting with high ceilings. Although not air conditioned, the cabina enjoys an elevated position on the site and is orientated to take advantage of breezes. In the room, there are ceiling and pedestal fans.
We feel very safe in our gated community, tucked away from the "hustle and bustle" of some of the nearby towns, but still close enough to enjoy all the area has to offer. This relaxing atmosphere is great for bird watching and animal visitors, walks or just enjoying the pool. We are central to enjoy all the coast has to offer with 19+ beaches within less than one hour drive. The closest beach, Playa Conchal, is an easy 10-12 minute walk away or even shorter drive. It has gentle waves making it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Playa Minas and Bahia de Los Piratos are 2 other beautiful beaches a 5 minute drive away. Matapolo is the closest town to us. It is a 5 minute drive away and has a couple of restaurants and grocery stores. Tamarindo is 25 mins south of us and Flamingo is 25 mins north. Both are an easy drive for taking in the restaurants, shops and services.
  • Kim and Tim were great hosts and I highly recommend them to and guest. Daily i walked from the house to an amazing beach made entirely of broken shells not sand and back to the house. It was a great workout. The property is well located and close to so much. Kim and Tim were very helpful helping me get around. My Spanish isn't great.

    rory2015-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • We were warmly welcomed by Tim on arrival. A great bnb in a location near the beach. Furthermore, it was very deserted. The Condor Hotel, where the component from seems to barely had guests. In the evening there is nothing more to do. Cottage is nice, especially the roof is added value. Beautiful scenery, but after six hours it is dark. Many howler monkeys seen and heard and also (unfortunately) many mosquitoes.

    Saskia2016-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely few days in Cabina Blanca. Really relaxing, peaceful location, near to lots of great beaches. Loved the rooftop terrace. Tim made us feel really welcome, and has lots of great local knowledge.

    Sarah2016-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • The location is difficult to find, but possible. Luckily, Kim and Tim gave us detailed directions. We were only there for a night, which was perfect because we didn't have a car, and the place is pretty secluded. There's a restaurant right next door though, and the beach is walking distance away. The walk to the beach was so amazing because I saw so many different animals. However, it is during this walk that I got the most bites, so it's important to remember bug spray!! Also, it got really hot in the room compared to other places I stayed in Costa Rica, so if planning to stay here, just anticipate this. I didn't meet Kim or Tim, but Kim's dad helped out as much as he could, and he was very sweet! If staying here, my most important take away was arranging transportation. We were worried about getting picked up because of how difficult it was for the shuttle driver to even get there. Luckily our server at the restaurant hooked us up with a driver (please be heedful of unofficial taxi drivers by making sure they take you to the right location).

    Anjelah2016-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Kim and Tim's place is amazing. Perfect spot to crash with easy access to many of the Costa Rican beaches and great value.

  • This review is for cabina blanca. We came in a couple with our 18 month old daughter. We had to shorten our stay because it was impossible to stay in the room: - The room has no curtains (just a little warping) and the window is set right on the rising sun. - The fan is not effective and makes a lot of noise. Clear from 5am, you are attacked by a stifling heat and glare that prevents you from sleeping and staying in the room. The bathroom does not have hot water. The kitchen is basic and it is impossible to cook it. We had to use the barbecue owners. The room was filled with red ants, cockroaches and other insects, despite the brush strokes that we give. The roof terrace looked good prim first but proved useful for an hour in the morning and afternoon. Besides, it was either too hot or we were invaded by mosquitoes. Onsite parking (bottom) and swimming pool (above) is by dirt roads and slippery slope. After 2 nights we gave up and of course, Kim refused to reimburse us. As indicated, the house is isolated from everything in a gated and must be 5km on a dirt road or on the beach to reach the surrounding villages. This is an advantage or a disadvantage for you to see! In any case, a 4x4 is advisable to go. The pool is beautiful (to the house owners) and has a beautiful view from the terrace owners. The red house is probably better, but much more expensive! In conclusion, we recommend the cabina blanca for a long stay, especially in hot weather season and think there are much better quality / price ratios in the region. Good for a night ...

  • Best place to stay near Playa Conchal. Kim and Tim were very friendly. The room is very clean and look exactly like the picture, nice rooftop.

    Marc2016-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • A great stay! Tim welcomed us with quick tips on navigating Costa Rica and its friendly wildlife. Kim compiled an amazing guide of fun restaurants, beaches, and activities to check out. The neighbourhood felt safe and quiet, and the location made driving to several famous beaches possible. I couldn't be happier with my stay!

The Tree House is hand-crafted, one of 3 casitas and 2 treehouses at the Bio Thermales natural resort organically integrated into our 35 acre rainforest. Guests enjoy free 24 hour access to the 12 natural hot and cool springs pools of various temperatures and rainforest trails. 45 minute drive from La Fortuna and Volcano Arenal, 3 hour drive from the SJO airport, 4 hour drive from Liberia airport. No children under 5 years of age for safety reasons: the height of the Tree House.
Please message us if we will be your first or last destination in Costa Rica. We highly recommend booking on weekdays for more privacy and tranquility, as we have more day visitors from 9 am to 6 pm to our hot springs on the weekends, especially Sundays. If your reservation includes a Sunday, we highly recommend planning a day outing to the many wonderful nearby activities. We are three hours north of San Jose (airport), 45 minutes east of Fortuna and Volcano Arenal, and the many activities there and nearby. Guests enjoy 24/day access* to our hot springs and trails in our 35 acre rainforest at no extra charge. The pools are cleaned every morning starting at 6 am, but one hot spring will always be available. Many factors may dictate scheduling, including weather. We do not charge for children 17 and under -- but we will not accept reservations for the Tree House for families with children under 5 years old for whom a 20 foot fall from the balcony would be very serious. Our hot springs are ancient “deep Earth” sources that bubble up through the rainforest floor, laden with mineral-rich waters that have been in the Earth for at least 10,000 years. Our waters are rich in bicarbonates, calcium and magnesium, low in sulfur, and slightly acidic -- qualities shared by many of the world's best hot springs. Five of our 9 organic form hot springs pools are located in the rainforest, and 4 hot springs pools as well as a small and a large cool spring swimming pool are located in a meadow, surrounded by rainforest (see below for more information). The small and large cool springs pools both have water slides, and there is a small water slide in one of the shallow and moderate temperature pools for small children. The Tree House is built to strict Costa Rican building codes, but as with all tree houses, there is some movement when the wind blows, and this could be uncomfortable for people very sensitive to motion sickness. Bio Thermales Hot Springs features: • Our hot springs pools are all-natural mineral water just as it flows from the Earth • Rainforest Pools from 90° - 105°F (31° - 40°C) • Grotto Pools in meadow flow from the 112°F/45°C source pool onward into two larger and progressively cooler pools which are handicap-accessible and suitable for small children. • Cool Pool in meadow is 90°F/31°C mineral water flowing from the thermal creek • 2 Swimming pools with continuous flow of natural cold spring water (88 degrees) - one is 1 to 1.5 meters deep, and the larger is 3 meters deep. • Bathhouse in meadow with handicap accessible bathrooms and showers • “Ranchos” – roofed tables with concrete floors and grills for picnics Other Activities on our 35 acre rainforest reserve: • Bird-watching: many types of toucans, oropendulas, parrots, hummingbirds, and the rare green macaw • Rainforest: enjoy it from the casita porch or hot springs pools, take easy walks on paths or more adventurous hikes • Fossils – enjoy our collection or hunt (gently) for your own • Wildlife: two-toed sloths, iguanas, capuchin and mantled howler monkeys, tree frogs, birds, butterflies, and many others. We are a 45 minute drive from the many activities in Fortuna and Volcano Arenal -- such as ziplines, hanging bridges, white water rafting, slow river floats or kayaking through wildlife sanctuaries -- or a 1.5 hour drive to La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Volcano Poas. Bio Thermales Hot Springs is open to the public for day use of the hot springs, and most of our day visitors are Costa Ricans, so you may also meet new Tico friends. Bio Thermales is generally not crowded, however, except on major holidays and Sundays. Food/Meals: The Tree House has a kitchen. There are many restaurants and a good supermarket within a 15 minute drive. Traditional Costa Rican meals can be delivered from a local caterer for very reasonable prices (Costa Rican food is tasty but not spicy). Otherwise, for those without cars, we can call a taxi or synchronize a food shopping trip when we go to town for errands. Driving from SJO airport: Please message us before booking if we are your first and/or last destination in Costa Rica. We recommend at least a small 4 wheel drive car. The last 3 kilometers are country roads. Three hours of daylight are needed to safely drive here from the SJO airport before sunset at 5:30 pm. The drive through mountainous cloud forests is splendid in daylight, but prone to fog and rain, especially at night, creating hazardous visibility conditions after dark. Finding our countryside location will also be far easier if you arrive the first time before sunset. If your plane lands in the morning to noon, you can drive here directly from the airport. Otherwise, it is safer to book a room near the airport on your first night, or ask us to book a private driver ($145) and have a rental car delivered at no extra charge. Last night in Costa Rica: Driving directly to the SJO airport on the same day is possible if you book a flight in the afternoon. Please be aware that you must be at the airport 2.5 hours before departure. If you have an early morning departing flight it is basically necessary to stay near the airport on the night before.
We are in the countryside in a non-touristy rural area of family farms, orchards and rainforest, off the beaten tourist track. The last 2 km are unpaved country roads. Guests should expect a natural environment, integrated into the rainforest, with the usual wildlife native to a tropical rainforest (except there are no large jungle cats like jaguars). We are a 45 minute drive from the many activities in Fortuna/Volcano Arenal, including volcano hikes, ziplines, swimming in the pristine waters below the La Fortuna Waterfall, white water rafting and slow "safari float" rafting to see monkeys, sloths and other animals. Closer to us is a slow river raft tour, rainforest hikes or horseback riding, and a visit to the Iguana Bridge with many large iguanas within a 15 minute drive.
  • Totally stunning property. Great, lovely, friendly hosts. Kathy was super helpful for all aspects of our trip to Costa Rica, including parts not at Bio Thermales. Both the mariposa casitas and the treehouse were amazing. We had a great time hanging out with the owners and other guests late into the evening. The hot polls were so nice. I hope to come back here one day. I was travelling with my seven year old and she adored it as well

  • You will not believe what a beautiful heaven Bernie and Kathy have created on this great part of Costa Rica. Bernie is a genius, building this with the help of just a few men. The treehouse is like a dream and the hotsprings are great. I am fobic of spiders but have not seen 1 spuder over there thanks to great cleaning. During the weekend it can be busy there, with tico's going for a swim but we went for the canopytour In the weekend. Best in Costa Rica, that canopytour by the way. Would highly recommend this property!

    Carina2013-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • Kathy gave us a tour of the property, we have to explain all animals, dangerous or not we may encounter, we made a tour of the hotsprings.

  • Most wonderful experience. From early emails to final drop off Kathy and team helped give us an A+ introduction to Costa Rica!! If you plan to visit make sure to take Kathy up on having Frank guide you on all excursions. This was a once in a life time trip!!

  • Totally worth it!!!!! Wow, I just loved the whole experience. Kathy & Bernie are an incredible couple who put a lot of energy, and I'm sure of passion as well, building up an amazing "refuge". Kathy helped me a lot to organise our trip since it's not totally easy to reach them without a car. She gave me a lot of alternatives and made reservations for me. It was really kind of her. The tree house is really a great house! It's charming, the sounds from the jungle are amazing and the full kitchen was really practical. A tica neighbourg cooks for the guests and her plates were really good! The hot springs are just amazing. We relaxed a lot, which was the main goal of our visit. That water feels different, and my skin is still, 4 days later, softer than normally :) There are also a lot of interesting animals to see there if you are looking for them. We mostly saw birds, and heard wonderful singing coming from them. Charming!

  • We stayed at Bio Thermales for two days & had an amazing time! The place was very clean and comfortable. Kathy and Bernie were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The Hot Springs were available any time of day and night. We will definitely stay here again.

    Kumar2013-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • We loved it! The treehouse was super cool, the hot springs on site were fantastic and (property manager) Johan and his family were incredibly welcoming. Kathy and Bernie were away travelling at the time of our arrival but we were 100% taken care of with extremely detailed driving directions and helpful car rental / food information ahead of time and the wonderful staff on site when we arrived. The drive through the cloud forest from San Jose was amazing. There's a great grocery store nearby and we had the rest of our food delivered from their reasonably priced local caterer. Hot spring pools all to yourself at night under the stars!!! You should book this!!!

    Stew2014-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Kathy & Bernie have an incredible spot here! We're very jealous! We only stayed for one night in the treehouse but during this time we saw some of the best wildlife yet on our Costa Rica trip. I had a coffee on the balcony and saw a sloth and some toucans in the trees across from me! We also had free reign of the hot pools after the Tico families left at 6 and until 9am when the place opened up again. Kathy & Bernie are lovely hosts and we'll definitely be back again one day

  • We had a wonderful stay in Esterillos Oeste. Justin was waiting to pick us up to take us to the house even though we arrived much later than anticipated. The apartment was literally a breath of fresh sea air. Louvred doors keep out the morning sun while letting the sea breeze through. The apartment is comfortable and practical and with balconies to enjoy the overwhelming view. Jessica and Justin made us feel totally at home which made our holiday as relaxed as it could be. thank guys!

  • We stayed here in May, which is the start of the rainy season. We loved staying here, the hammocks on the balcony were fantastic, we spent a lot of time in those relaxing and soaking up the amazing view of the bay. The place is very secluded and quiet, but at night, light sleepers may want ear plugs due to thunder storms and noisy bugs! Speaking of bugs, make sure you keep food in the fridge so it stays fresh and nothing gets to it! Justin and Jessica's recommendations for things to do were spot on and always made for a great meal out or day trip, so ask them for ideas! We would recommend this place to anyone wanting to get off the beaten track and have some time away from it all.

    Jack2017-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • Justin was helpful and welcoming.

    Emily2017-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • This place is INCREDIBLE. It's the most adorable house right on a little hill overlooking the water. We only stayed here for one night (our last night) but WISH we came earlier. This place is ALWAYS booked, so we just got lucky. Everything looks brand new -- the hammocks are incredible, and the location is just divine. If you can get this place, book it. You won't regret it.

    Rob2017-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Actual heaven. Book for more than one night. We randomly scored one night here and wish we could have stayed much longer. Hosts are so so kind and help you with anything you need. The house is so beautiful and we spent much time in the hammocks on the porch! Super close to a cute, tiny, town. You can enjoy beautiful sunsets and sunrises along with fresh fish and kind people! Highly recommend!!! Will be back:)

    Sarah2017-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • As many have described, Justin and his wife Jessica are extremely nice. They knew we were bringing our 17 month old so they had a crib in the space when we arrived. They also brought us baby toys and books we could use while there. They had a lot of suggestions for what to do in the area and where to eat. The recommended the pineapple curry with the fish of the day at Los Almendros, which was amazing! We also enjoyed some local craft beer there, which was a fun surprise. The views are amazing from the second floor. There are recliners and hammocks on the balcony. It was a quick drive to the beach, which you can drive up to and park just about anywhere. The beach was not crowded at all while we were there. Close to sunset a lot of surfers started coming out and it was fun to watch them. I wouldn't have gone too far into the water as the currents are strong, but lounging on the beach was great. At low tide, there are tide pools great for kids to play in. The town itself is very small, and had more of a local/non-touristy feel than Manuel Antonio. There is no ATM in the town, so I would bring some colones with you, but the grocery and the restaurant we ate at took credit card so we had no issues. If you are someone who enjoys nature, and sleeping in the open this place is great. We left all the doors open to get a nice breeze at night. The views were beautiful.

  • David is an exceptional host who constantly goes out of his way to make you feel at home. If you stay at "Casa David," you can be assured you will have a once-in-a-lifetime vacation in place you may have only imagined existed in novels or films. Our host quickly answered any of our questions and then politely retreated into the background so we were assured of our privacy. The home is everything the pictures contain and more. I particularly love glass, steel, and wood in a minimalist design so this was perfect for me and my wife also loved it. David includes bedding, towels, kitchen supplies, and everything you need to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The maps don't accurately reveal the charm and beauty of the little village of Nosara which is just a few hundred yards out the front door. We ended up renting bikes but it's a quick commute to the beach and the local restaurants/shops. A great example of David's incredible hosting skills: When it was time for us to leave on the Nosara-San Jose bus home, he could have simply let us wait on the corner without a ticket or take a bumpy golf cart ride to Nosara town to buy a ticket. No! He jumped on his motor bike and rode into town to get us two tickets at no extra expense just because he's a great guy. We were skeptical at first since this was our first Airbnb experience, however, it was absolutely perfect.

  • Our host (David) was wonderful. He was there to greet us, even when we were several hours late on our arrival, and made sure that we got to a restaurant before everything closed for the night. David made us feel right at home from the start to the end. He provided wonderful guidance on places to eat and things that we should do while in Nosara. David keep us informed as to when he was going to be around the house and when he was going to be away. This was nice so that when we had questions we knew when he would be available to give suggestions or advice The house (Casa David) was exactly like the pictures show. If you are looking to stay in a modern / industrial / loft type accommodations this is it. David did a wonderful job in designing and building this house. If you get a the opportunity, have a chat with David on how he came to live in Nosara and how Casa David came to exist. The location of the house was perfect. You are minutes away (with a car) from most everything! Your home is definitely on our list of places that we would like to return to. The enthusiasm and passion you showed, as an accommodating host, was warmly appreciated. Thank you David for making our stay there so enjoyable and stress free!!! Gerald & Sheri

  • David was a great host. He gave us great advice on where to eat and what to do. The place was clean and looked exactly like the pictures. It is walking distance from the beach and plenty of other places in Guiones Beach. I'd definitely do it again.

  • David is an amazing host and his house is beautiful. He was so helpful from the very beginning of our trip until the last moments. David helped us with things to do in town, where to get the best deals on goods and services, setting up transportation, etc. The house was clean and stocked with all the essentials. It truly was like being in your own second home (but let's face it, it's a likely much cooler home than what we live in at home). The house is also in a nice location, secluded enough to be quiet but walking distance to the beach, market, and many restaurants. Thanks for providing us with a wonderful and memorable trip, David!

  • It was such a pleasure to stay at Casa David near Nosara! From the moment we arrived with my family of 5, David went out of his way to make us feel at home. He stays in a room attached to the garage, so he was available to assist with anything we needed. His house is absolutely stunning and we were able to comfortably sleep my whole family. There is a large bathroom downstairs and a smaller one upstairs, so taking showers was never a problem. It was also nice to have access to a washer while we were on vacation! We loved the Creperrie which was right next door and would get delicious crepes and coffee here in the morning. There are beautiful beaches just a couple of blocks away. David also provided suggestions on different neighboring beaches (one with sea turtles, one good for families and horseback riding, etc), which we spent several days visiting. It was also pretty nice that David was able to get us some perks around town, like being able to use the nearby pool at the Gilded Iguana (which my kids appreciated!!). My husband and I talked about returning when David is done with the renovations that he will be working on in the yard/patio area. It was such a pleasure staying at Casa David - my kids still talk about it to this day! David is a wonderful host and a very interesting person to have met in our travels. Thank you, David!!

  • We LOVE Casa David. We are a group of 5 best girlfriends that just returned home from visiting Nosara for the first time. Did I say we LOVE Casa David? Okay, just making sure :-) It is a unique, open concept, beautiful and comfortable home that is impeccably maintained. A gorgeous outdoor space to hang out and relax. David welcomed us and provided all the information we needed to enjoy our stay in Nosara. The neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful and close to everything. You can easily walk to restaurants, cafes, convenience store, and the beach. We chose to rent a golf cart, from Arturo down the road, for some added mobility to explore. We all want to go back to Nosara and stay at Casa David again. It was a smooth, enjoyable and memorable experience. We highly recommend it!

    Yvette2016-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • David was a wonderful host and his casa is beautiful! My husband and I really enjoyed our three nights here. Loft is nice and open but also feels very private. Even in torrential rain, it felt secure and no critters & bugs came in. It was awesome hearing all the wildlife birds & monkeys throughout the night. Nosara is a sleepy little beach/surf town with some great spots and with David's help we ate at some great spots. Playa Guiones is about a 10 minute walk away. Stay here if you truly want to feel off of the grid and experience nature and a beautiful beach. Would love to come back and visit during the busy season as well. Thanks again David!

Stay in the middle of the rainforest with its abundant wildlife, in your own comfortable house. Just minutes from little fishermanvillage of Manzanillo (with small shops and restaurants) and the caribbean sea with its picture perfect beaches
Fascinating jungle experience in the middle of the Caribbean rainforest of Costa Rica! Our distinguished lodge on 16+ acres of private property is situated in the Gandoca Manzanillo wildlife refuge, with the beautiful Caribbean sea less then a mile away. You will stay in one of our comfortable, fully equipped houses on stilts. Experience the jungle like never before. Have the monkeys waiting outside your window as you wake up to the sounds of tropical birds singing (more than 100 species counted on our property). There are sloths, nosebears, other mammals, frogs, and so much more… Relax in the Costa Rican rain forest, drinking a good bottle of wine on your jungle porch. Have a massage, walk our private nature tracks or relax at the creek that runs through the property. Go on one of the many excursions we can arrange for you. Visit the picture perfect & quiet Caribbean beaches just a few minutes away! Venture into Cahuita National park or the Gandoca Manzanillo wildlife refuge. Enjoy a night out in the bustling beach town of Puerto Viejo (9 miles away). But most of all look forward to waking up in a jungle paradise that seems to have been created especially for you… El Arbol (the tree) is the creation of Jan Hein (designer and creator of the lodge) and Marjolein (counsellor and international marketer) from the Netherlands. We want to offer our guests comfort while at the same time they are being totally immerged in nature. The idea is to offer guests a pure, private and personal experience. We are nature lovers ourselves and we would like to show you and your loved ones nature as it can still be found on this planet. Enjoy nature without compromising on comfort. We believe that the natural beauty in the lay of the land is best left as it is, especially if one of your goals is seeing animals. This theory is proven by the abundant wildlife that visits our 16+ acre property every day. We continue to let nature work her magic. Landscaping is done only around houses and common areas. We have a natural path through our rainforest that we keep clean and accessible; the rest of the jungle remains untouched. Outdoor lighting is romantic but restricted to what is necessary for orientation, safety & security. El Árbol philosophy: Our philosophy is to create a unique and personalized jungle experience in the midst of complete comfort. Feel the mental and physical wellbeing that nature provides. We also place extra emphasis on being eco friendly and globally conscious. You as our guest take part in this process as 5% of your lodging fees will be donated to local charities. The houses are designed with style, the immediate environment, comfort and safety in mind. Our houses are beautifully and interestingly designed. They are built on poles so you have the feeling you you are living and sleeping in the treetops and have round shapes, rich colors and exciting features. Every house has its own jacuzzi from which you can see the jungle and its wildlife. The houses have a fully equipped kitchen, master bedroom, large living room with an extra sleeping sofa/bed, luxury bathroom, safe and all beds have the best orthopedic mattresses with good quality mosquito nets. Because of their design and the protection from the rainforest's canopy, the houses have a comfortable, cool climate. The houses have glass windows to keep insects out, although it would amaze you how many days and nights you will sit outside on your porch without being bothered by any of these little creatures to fully enjoy the sounds of the jungle. The houses are cleaned for you 2 times a week. Its an amazing experience, don't miss it. we hope to may welcome you, if the dates you want to stay are booked at this calendar , please look at our other airbnb listing as we have 2 equal houses for rent :)
  • Amazing location and amazing host! My wife and I stayed here for part of our honeymoon and we loved it. It is very much in the jungle and it was a very unique experience. Marilyn provided great recommendations and even helped book us a rafting tour. Thanks for an unforgettable experience!

  • El Arbol was the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. We absolutely loved staying on the Caribbean side and Manzanillo was one of our favorite spots. Manzanillo is quiet and small, but incredibly picturesque. The jungle house is stunning with every amenity you could ask for. The deck offered perfect views into the jungle. We saw a toucan, spider monkeys, blue morpho butterflies and lightning bugs. We cooked breakfast and dinner at the house just to soak it all in. The jungle is truly alive at night and if it rains it is very loud. I personally don't mind being awakened by howler monkeys! We rented bikes in Manzanillo but truthfully next time we would just walk and take the local bus to explore Puerto Viejo and the other beach towns. The tour with Florentino was awesome (we saw 3 sloths) - but eat a big breakfast and bring snacks. You will need the energy! We did not get to eat at El Refugio since it was closed that week but we heard it was amazing. We are already planning to go back next year and El Arbol is on our list of places to stay. When you want to experience your own private jungle, head to El Arbol. Maybe next time we visit, they will have two hammocks :) Thanks to Marilyn - she was extremely helpful to us.

  • We stayed for 1 week at El Arbol in early August and had a great time. Marilyn and John were wonderful hosts, extremely attentive and helpful but never intrusive or over bearing. The two guesthouses are set back into a remote lush tropical landscape full of wildlife including Howler monkeys which we would hear every morning at sunrise. The house is beautifully designed and equipped with all essentials. The jacuzzi tub and bathroom was really a big treat and a luxury in this jungle setting. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the basic essentials to cook your own meals which we did quite frequently during our stay. Although the house is well equipped with all essentials for living it does still have that cabin/outdoors feeling to it, it's truly an oasis and getaway into a simple lifestyle where everyday you are interacting with nature and impressive wilderness of Manzanillo. So if you're afraid of insects (we saw beautiful grasshoppers and large variety of flying insects we've never seen before) or are looking for a modern hotel type of place this may not be the right fit for you. The property is a lush and vibrant jungle full of wildlife. The house was in good, clean condition and the maid service came every 3 days to change linens and clean. We did encounter a great deal of humidity since we were there in rainy season, this caused all of our linens to be damp. However, Marilyn was so kind and accommodating to our issue with the humidity and suggested the use of AC to help dehumidify the house. We also think if we had kept the windows open more it wouldn't have gotten so humid. The rain we encountered during our stay persisted all day for most of our stay which was a bit frustrating as we would have liked more time to enjoy the incredible beaches. Never the less, we really enjoyed our stay in the wild nature and highly recommend El Arbol to couples or families traveling in the region. It is really a unique place with little to no comparison at all in that area because of it's remote location, the amenities the house is equipped with and the great hosts who run the property. We'd recommend 4WD, especially in rainy season. Lidia's Place is Puerto Viejo was our favorite restaurant, Lazy Mon's happy hour with live music was always fun and Cahuita National Park took our breath away- some of the most beautiful wild beaches we've ever seen.

  • Awesome place that looks just like in the pictures. Very close to shops, restaurants and bars (just a 5 minute drive). The hosts were very friendly and helped us with everything we wondered. We are definitely coming back!

    Lukas2014-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Where to start!?! El Arbol is a place of magic. Sitting on a short drive up right before you get to small adorable town of Manzanello, this place offers the best of both worlds. Whether you're looking for seclusion or to enjoy local life, this is the perfect place. It's in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by more species of mammals than you can possibly imagine. It's a unique experience sleeping to the orchestra of the forest and waking up to howling monkeys: it makes one realize just how disconnected we have become to Mother Nature. It has immensely helped me reconnect with my own nature, hearing the therapeutic sounds of the forest every day. You can spot neon dart frogs or sloths in your back yard! And the food, oh boy the food! Since the area is cacao central I can't even emphasize the way chocolate tastes. There is a chocolate factory near he house that is a must see. And the food is unmatchable in its variety in nearby town Puerto Viejo especially compared to the rest of Costa Rica. If you like variety, this is the place to be. The way I can describe the place is almost like California town Santa Cruz. It's very laid back, surfer town that houses people from all over the world, coming to this area to abandon their monotonous lives and find themselves again in nature. I had a wonderful time here and cannot recommend it enough. Marilyn and her family are absolutely wonderful and were extremely helpful with anything we needed and provided tons of insights about the area. I will definitely be paying another visit soon!

  • An amazing experience in an amazing place. We had a fantastic visit at El Arbol. As described it is a perfect oasis in the middle of the jungle. Even better there is hot and running water and a beautiful jacuzzi tub looking out into the jungle! The junglehouses are just perfect- clean, cozy and well stocked with everything you need if you want to cook a nice meal. There is a spiral staircase up to the bed upstairs which is romantically enclosed in a net which kept the bugs out and allowed us to sleep with the windows open during our stay. You could hear lots of wildlife and howler monkeys every morning and there were lots of bats and other interesting creatures to watch from the balcony every evening. Even though the two jungle houses are side by side, they have been perfectly designed for privacy. Marilyn and her husband were fantastic hosts, inviting us inside when we had trouble with the internet from outside, making a fantastic suggestion for a nice valentines dinner and even offering to drive us out there! We did not have a car and Manzanillo is easily walkable in around 15 minutes. It's a bit pricey (~$15usd/ each way) to get into puerto viejo but we knew this before and all the taxi drivers knew where El Arbol was located which was quite helpful. We can't say enough about this wonderful spot and hosts and will definitely be back if we travel to the area in the future!

    Michelle2015-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for 4 nights in one of the two houses of Marylin and Jon and would have liked to stay longer! A great place. To the rating: We can only follow the previous reviews: Warm hosts, great house, everything there, what you need. The location is the pure madness, surrounded by jungle (some to primary forest, some tree giants within sight), right in the national park, a great hiking path around the house rum, toucans, parrots, faults, frogs, etc directly in front of the house. Grandiose noise during the day and at night, beautiful beaches by car in 5 minutes comfortable ride to reach (we found Punta Uva at the most beautiful and best for bathing). Super damp weather during the day, at night it cooled surprisingly pleasant, so we could sleep very well with 2 fans. All in all one of our highlights on our tour. Worth every penny. We will be back.

Full apartment, just five minutes walk to museums, National Theater, and central Market, you can also enjoy typical costarican food restaurants and coffee shops in the neighborhood . If you are going to the beach and volcanoes , it is located just 1 hour and 20 min. to Jaco Beach and fifty minutes to the Poás Volcano. You will love my place it has lots of light, a beautiful mountain view, comfortable bed and fully equipped kitchen. Perfect for couples, families on vacation. Self check in.
Studio apartment, with full size bed and a pull over couch for an extra guest, internet and cable tv. Ideal if you come for vacation, and want to make one day trips to the mountains or to the beach, its also perfect for your first or las nights in Costa Rica, so you can get the feeling of busy down town, or if you come for medical turism it is about 15 minute cab drive to most hospitals. Located on the 5th floor, there is elevator, it has a great view of the mountains to the north side of town, and its located very close to all main museums and attractions in the heart of San Jose.
The place is located in the heart of the city and there is much traffic and people around the neighborhood specially in week days. San José is a very busy city, it gets very crowded during the day and at night it is calm, you need to take this into consideration. Although we are a small country every day in San José more then one million people go through the city on transit to work , school or hospitals, many located in the great metropolitan area. The apartment is located near hotels, restaurants, parks and a five minute walk to all the museums (Gold, Jade, National, Art) . Like any city that you are getting to know you should never be over confident, when you arrive I will be more than happy to give you instructions so you can get around, and you can also find instructions right here if you read " Getting Around" (Guidebook). The place is just three blocks away from central avenue where you can find all the museums, restaurants and nice shops, it is a nice street walk!... There you can see the beautiful National Theater, on calle 2 , you will find the Mail Building, both are "most see" land marks in San José. You might want to go take a peak at the Hotel Costa Rica, which is the first hotel built in San Jose in the early 1900's, walk a bit west on second avenue and you will find the Cathedral and Central Park, on the right the beautiful Melico Salazar theater. You can also find very nice souvenir shops just a couple of blocks away. The Jade Museum, is a most if you like museums!!... It is within a 5 minute walk.
  • I didn't get to meet Marie due to our flight being delayed a day, but she was incredibly helpful. Her place was adorable and clean, with any amenity we might have needed, and very gracious and accommodating about our delays.

    Katie2015-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Marie’s place is great! She is very friendly and provided prompt and clear communications throughout my stay. The apartment’s in downtown San Jose, so I was able to walk everywhere I wanted. I’ve stayed in commercial and Airbnb rental units throughout Costa Rica for the past 4 months, and I’m really impressed with how Marie furnished this apartment! The photos of the apartment are 100% accurate—I ate several of the apples sitting on the kitchen table :P The apartment is very tastefully decorated, super clean, and contains high quality furnishings and materials throughout: the interior walls have a unique paint job, there are very nice prints on the walls, a super comfy bed, thick and fluffy towels, new and high quality tableware/silverware, the list goes on and on. I’d definitely recommend Marie’s apartment to anyone wanting to stay in downtown San Jose, and in fact, I’ve already booked a 2nd stay with her ;-)

  • Great apartment, beautiful set-up and very comfortable bed. Marie was very accomodating and made sure we got our apartment key and anything else we needed. Very quick to respond as well. Thanks for a great stay and looking forward to come back!

  • Marie was very prompt, friendly and helpful with all our communication and was flexible in accommodating all of our needs regarding arrival and departure times. The room was just what we needed: a safe, clean, well maintained space that met the expectations created by her listing. I also loved that there were some simple snacks in the kitchen as I was very hungry when we arrived - that was a friendly and helpful bonus! The location was good too bc we could access some lovely and interesting sites and spaces in the centre.

    Kyla2015-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was perfect for what we needed and were looking for. It was centrally located, clean, modern, and great for two people. Marie was prompt at answering any and all of our questions. The apartment itself was very secure and safe.

    Vanessa2015-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Marie was an excellent host. Her apartment is spacious and great for spending a few days in San José and exploring the center. Marie helped us to arrange a taxi to the airport because we don't speak Spanish. This was my first airbnb experience and I am definitely continuing my travels using their server. Thank you for all.

    Jana2017-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Marie was more than an excellent host. She not only met us late at night after our flight, she spoke to our taxi driver on the way to the apartment to make sure we were on the right track. And then walked us (left turn out of the buildings exit) into the main part of town - less than 5 minutes and showed us a great local eatery that was open at that time. A true San Jose experience. For the more adventurous turn right out of the buildings door and go down town - true street life - you'd best have your wits about you as it is "down town" - but I like that stuff. It's real. Also note that buildings don't have street numbers - directions are more like "50 meters South of hotel X" And so having a goat like Marie talk to your driver on the way is beyond helpful I highly recommend this host and her compact, clean, functional and safe apartment.

    Joseph2014-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Marie was the perfect host for my trip to San Jose. This was my first time traveling out of the country by myself and she made it very easy for me. She provided perfect directions for my cab driver and met me at the building when I arrived. There are three separate keys/locks to get to the apartment so I felt very safe staying there by myself. She provided some good suggestions of things to visit while I was in the city and also has a stack of brochures for museums, restaurants, attractions, etc. The space itself was in great condition. Everything was very clean and I had everything I needed for my stay. I would certainly recommend renting from Marie to any travelers in the San Jose area.

This one-of-a-kind wooden house is the essence of tropical living. Surrounded by 4 acres of private property, it is a perfect place to decompress when you first arrive in Costa Rica, or just before you go home. 30 minutes to airport.
The Rancho is the guest house on our property where we live full time in Atenas, Costa Rica. It is a tropical-style building constructed of beautiful tropical hardwoods. It has a central living/dining area, a 2nd floor bedroom w/double bed, a small kitchenette with mini-fridge, a microwave oven, a sink carved from one long piece of wood. The bathroom is unique: 20 ft. long, stone walls and floor, wood structure; the walls are black lava rock from Arenal Volcano, the floors smooth flagstone, there is a stone shower stall, and a bathtub carved out of one tree trunk. Unfortunately the bathtub needs extensive renovation and cannot be used at this time. A toilet, of course; modern plumbing fixtures throughout. It was built out over a little man-made lake, but changing climate patterns have dictated a much smaller water body, only full during the rainy season. The rest has been turned into garden. The property is a birders paradise. We have 4 acres (16,000 sq.m.) with many fruit trees, are surrounded on three sides by coffee farms. This is the real Costa Rica. And this is the perfect tropical getaway for a weekend, or an interlude in between beaches, tropical forests and other activities. The property is in the neighborhood of Alto Lopez, in Barrio San Jose Sur de Atenas, just 4 km or 10 minutes from Atenas centro. The neighborhood is very safe - everyone knows everyone else, and our property is totally secure. NOT a gated community! We are one hour from the central Pacific beach towns of Jaco and Puntarenas, 1.5 hours from Manuel Antonio National Park, 2 hours to Monte Verde Cloud Forest and 30 minutes from San Jose airport. PLEASE NOTE: The building IS NOT CHILD SAFE. I will not allow any child younger than 12 in the building. There are too many places where a child could literally fall out of the building.
Its real Costa Ricans (Tico's/Tica's.) Friendly and honest, the Ticos's consistently come out No. 1 on the World Happiness Quotient. To be expected from a county who's slogan is "pura vida" - pure life. There is a restaurant serving lunch and dinner a five minute walk from our place, and a little convenience store right on our street, 2 minutes away.
  • A slice of paradise! Jean and Al have created a little oasis, a perfect spot to start or end your Costa Rican adventure. After traveling throughout the country for the last 10 days, we're so grateful for this spot. My partner and I spent 3 days decompressing here, enjoying the brilliant weather, being inside and outside at the same time, and watching flowers rain down from the trees. The wood, layout, garden, are all ideal. Jean and Al were super quick to communicate, gave us great tips, and were so kind and helpful. If you'd like a really unique TICO house experience, I can't recommend it enough. This was also the only spot in Costa Rica that we weren't devoured by bugs. Thank you Jean and Al for opening up your unique property to weary travelers!

  • Such an incredibly unique and beautiful place to stay! Not only that but you could not ask for more hospitable and helpful hosts. The perfect place to relax, feel at one with nature and experience the Pura Vida!

  • Jean and Al are awesome hosts. The pictures definitely don't do the place justice! It's AMAZING!!! From the fresh picked tangerines and Costa Rican pears to the cool breezes and great people this is the place to stay on your trek through this beautiful country. It's tucked away in the mountains but Jean gives great directions and the cab drivers are great. Everyone in the town is welcoming. Jean and Al's awesome neighbor's gave me a ride to Jaco beach (about an hour away) and even gave me a ride to the airport. I can't say enough wonderful things about Jean, Alex, their beautiful place, and the great town of Atenas!

  • The Rancho was a sanctuary that bring our journey through Costa Rica to a close. Jean and Al offered us very thorough directions from the remote region we were travelling from, and welcomed us with warmth and friendship. The Rancho is filled with peace, natural light, bamboo artistry, and a delicious open-air breeze from the surrounding jungle garden. It is a unique space, with the flavour of a luxurious tree-house or hut. Very convenient for those landing or departing from Santa Maria airport. We would recommend this space to travellers near and far for a single night or many nights, to enrich the soul and relax the mind. Thank you Jean and Al, we will be back!

    Michaela2017-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was wonderful. The location is very peaceful and near to nature. You can hear the sound of the animals (birds etc) all the time also during the night. You can walk around the property and be in touch with nature. Jean and Al have been great hosts and gave us tips what to do next. We totally recommend this beautiful lodge. P.s. The duck is very funny.

    Diana2017-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Jean and Al were wonderful hosts. They greeted us when we arrived and made sure we had everything we needed, and saw us off in the morning. Jean also graciously arranged transportation for our departure. The Rancho itself was amazing—truly a unique place to spend the night. My only warning is that this home is for visitors who LOVE being around nature. Falling asleep to the sound of rain on the roof and waking up to the cool breeze blowing through this open-air home were wonderful, but the animal noises as we fell asleep were extremely loud, and the bats were not shy about entering the home as they pleased all through the night. The mosquito net Jean and Al provided helped keep the bugs and bats away from us while we slept, but we were still a bit shocked by the presence of the bats flying in and out of the building. This home is for those who are not squeamish about animals and are NOT light sleepers!

  • Lovely stay at The Ranch. The property was absolutely stunning with a large tangerine tree in the back yard to accompany the local coffee Jean left us in the kitchen from the coffee farm next door. Perfect place if you are looking to enjoy a few peaceful nights in a tranquil scene with the sounds of nature and serenity of your thoughts and seclusion. Lovely hosts and property. Will definitely come again when I visit costa rica again someday.

    Kristina2015-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Jean and Al were by far the most kind, helpful, and sincere hosts we have had traveling abroad and on Airbnb. Their property is gorgeous and The Rancho is everything you could want for a weekend retreat in Costa Ricas best climate. The Rancho itself is amazingly crafted and set nicely by a pond to sit out by in the morning. Highly recommended. A rental car is very useful to have since most activities are a short drive away. As a side note: Al is a FANTASTIC artist and we were honored to see his studio. We plan on reaching out to him in the future for paintings for our home!

Super magical & unique tree house based on sacred geometry located on an active organic farm. It's truly in the trees, not on stilts. It's composed of 4 rustic open air structures: the Awarenest - a separate epic 360 view deck 9m (30ft) high, the Bedroom Pod - with hanging bed, desk, northern view of the mountains and half bath with suspended bridge to full Kitchen Pod both at 4.5m (15ft) high and lastly a separate bathroom/shower pod at 3m (12ft). Basically a jungle farm wildlife adventure.
The main initial structure, the bedroom is actually suspended by cables between 5 strong Melina trees. The sacred geometry shape is an Icosahedron, one of the 5 platonic solids. It’s composed of 20 equilateral triangles that join at 12 vertices roughly making a spherical shape. The bedroom has a queen bed with canopy mosquito net, a built in desk, a small sink (with running water) and mirror and small porch. Just outside the bedroom is a half bathroom with flushing toilet. The kitchen, connected to the bedroom by a bridge has a full size sink, half size frig, toaster oven, 1 burner gas stove, plenty of counter space and built in couch/bench that can sleep a 3rd person, but it's narrow and not very comfortable for sleeping (which is why it's a 2 person listing). The bathroom in a separate tree, has flushing toilet and shower with 2 heads, one is cold only and one has hot and cold. Plenty of privacy but open air with a view. It has a ladder access. The view deck, called the Awarenest is about 30' up with quite an amazing view. It's accessible by a series of ladders, so not for the faint of heart. It's a great spot for yoga, meditation or just relaxing on top of the world. It's in the tallest, highest tree in the area. I say highest because it's also at the top of a little hill. It's truely one of a kind.
It’s 15 min drive to the Montezuma beach and about 25 min drive to Mal Pais and Santa Teresa Beaches. It’s nicely settled in the hills between them. Also about 15 minutes from Cobano, the largest town in the area for supplies, etc. Those times change based on road conditions. It’s not actually very far, but you wont’ be driving super fast. There’s a wonderful authentic Italian restaurant located close by, in the middle of no where. Their pizza is amazing and cooked in a wood fired home made earth oven, hence the restaurants name, Tierra Y Fuego (earth and fire). They are only open Thursday-Sunday and closed for most of Sept/Oct.
  • + it is a really good place, it was clean and looks like the picture. The view in the bed is really amazing ! - : we haven't see the owner during our stay (2 days). Nobody when we arrive. I asked several time the way to go to this place, but joseph wasn't really helpfull, we were looking for this place during more than one hour and a half !! No light in the bathroom, we ask a guy to do something without success. What a shame, because it's an expensive room.

    Arnaud2016-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • This treehouse is a must see. It is fully equipped with anything you would need from a kitchen, toilet, shower and electricity. The views during sunset and sunrise are un real. The bed is hanging from the ceiling so you feel like you are in a giant hammock which is a dream come true in itself. I traveled here alone and I felt safe. I had no issues with bugs or animals. Overall best experience I have had to date! Thanks Joseph!!

    karen2017-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Stay here! Great community. Close to Montezuma falls and beach. Best views for sunsets! Take the climb up the lookout it's worth it! Just sad we didn't book more time here! Woke up to the sound of howler monkeys! Amazing Thanks Joseph

  • Our stay was one of the coolest part of our Costa Rica trip! The photos and description were very accurate. We were worried about the bugs but really they weren't bad, considering you're in an open air treehouse. A few are to be expected. The farm was also beautiful and fun to explore. Overall it was a fantastic experience in a beautiful, unique location!

    Lauren2016-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in the Tree House was one of the most magical experiences of my life. It truly is a very special place. I stayed here fro 4 nights with my boyfriend and we can't say enough great things about our experience. The Tree House is fully equipped with everything you would ever need. Electricity, running water, hot shower, mini fridge, hot plate, coffee maker, and even a TV! The property is so beautiful and the hosts are wonderful. The view is incredible. The wildlife is amazing. I would highly recommend staying here! A one of a kind experience you'll never forget.

    September2016-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This tree house is incredible. It is totally worth the drive. Where do I start? The views are incredible, your bed is suspended from the ceiling ad swings. The net around the bed kept out all the bugs, which were not too bad to begin with. The kitchen is fully functional, and a pleasure to cook in. I really don't know how to put this. You should stay here... You should, it is incredibly romantic. Proximity to down is not bad. 15 minutes. the drive is not so bad either, It's gonna be bumpy down to Montezuma, a little smoother from the ferry, you need a four wheel drive car, but it's not that bad. The place is extremely well built and so beautiful. The pictures look gorgeous, but they don't even do it justice.

    Samantha2015-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay in the treehouse. A wonderful and once in a lifetime experience. After a short introduction in the treehouse we enjoyed it from the start. The construction, the material, the view - everything. Some hints: - Cooking in the evening was really nice and we enjoyed the sound system, just plug and play with my iPhone. Perfekt. - Taking a shower in the dark when you hear some mammals strolling around is a challenge and nothing for "Angsthasen"

    Mareike2015-05-15T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at the tree house was everything I hoped for. It was definitely an experience being out there and you need to expect that going in. You’re pretty much surrounded by wilderness after all. If you’re not a fan of insects or the outdoors in general, this is not the place for you. But it you’re looking for adventure, look no further! Thomas was quick to respond to all my questions and needs. Julito was also very kind and welcoming as well! My only regret is that I couldn’t be there longer!

This Villa is a full one-bedroom, with a lovely living room with two walls of glass with views of our tropical garden, and a kitchenette with double hot plate, small refrigerator and microwave. The bedroom has a double bed and has a wall of glass.
We are a small property of nine apartments nestled in a tropical garden overlooking the Central Valley of Costa Rica. Our property is secure, peaceful and tranquil, with hiking trails and isolated areas to hang out and sunbathe. When you are ready for more action the center of Escazu with restaurants and shopping is 15 minutes away and if you want to go into San Jose it’s only another 15 minutes or so. The best of both worlds! See more at www.villalemas.com
Our property is located in the most exclusive area of Escazu, which is the most exclusive neighborhood in Costa Rica. Our neighbors are well-known politicians, artists and business-people. While it may be the “Beverly Hills” of Costa Rica we enjoy a very peaceful and tranquil lifestyle with the advantage of being 20 minutes from the city. There are amazing hiking trails, waterfalls and natural pools above our property on Pico Blanco (one of the mountains that towers over Escazu). If you desire a relaxed vacation there are plenty of areas to relax on the property, but if you’re more adventurous there is a wide variety of activity just outside the gates of the property!
  • Raymond's place was very beautiful and peaceful but we had a low car and it was hard to go up and down the hills and we got stuck in the entrance! Not his fault but definitely be careful with that! Nice stay and loved the dogs!

  • Raymond's place was beautiful. Would love to stay there again. I wish I had more time!

    Eric2016-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place for a great price. The house was very well kept and the roof balcony with view of the city and neighboring mountains, and the well maintained landscaping was all picturesque. All with the added mental security of a gate and guard. Raymond was extremely accommodating, and after a rough time with our rental car not coming through, and the worst taxi driver I've ever experienced, Raymond went the extra mile and even came to pick us up when our cab driver couldn't even make it up the hill to the house, and we were several hours later than expected. He even helped to set up a cab ride after our first bad experience to ensure we'd get to where we're going. I'd highly recommend staying at any of his listed properties. Thanks again for everything.

Sharing the treetops with monkeys, birds & iguanas, this light, airy, 2nd floor apartment is just 50 meters from the beach, right in the heart of Sámara. Great nature views and sounds of the ocean throughout. Fully equipped kitchen, 2 bedrooms, WiFi.
Poised on a back road that ends at the beach and is shared by the local language school and other lodging units, this unique and spacious apartment (75m2) with its vaulted ceiling is shaded by mango, papaya, plantain, and cashew tres. Our fully furnished apartment has two bedrooms, one bath, and an open-plan living room and kitchen with a tiled breakfast bar, and WiFi. Netflix works perfectly in Costa Rica, we suggest bringing your account info to be able to connect on your devices when you wish. The master bedroom has a double bed while the second has two single beds sleeping a total of four comfortably, perfect for a family, two couples or traveling friends. Both rooms have bedside tables, lamps, closets and ceiling fans. Our unique furniture is handmade by local woodworkers using recycled tropical woods and driftwood. The kitchen has a convection toaster-oven, 4-burner stovetop, blender, electric water heater and Costa Rican coffee-drip, and seating for 5 at the breakfast bar. In the interest of full disclosure, as with any rentals in the heart of Sámara, the bar-restaurants can be noisy at night, and there is a bar-restaurant diagonally behind us that has live music on Wednesdays. The early morning roosters, dogs and howler monkeys present all over Sámara can also be a noise factor! To that end we have two loud floor fans that work great for drowning out outside noise, and recommend bringing earplugs. If you are sensitve to noise or a light sleeper, we recommend looking for a rental further out of town. We do not have AC at the apartment, so check average temperatures for your dates if you are not used to the tropical heat.
I love that we are so close to the beach, you don't even need to put your flipflops on, and that there is so much nature and wildlife around us. Also, being right near the language school is a plus, as guests can use the facilities and take part in activities like yoga and dance, and feel like they are part of a community if they want to. Also, absolutely everything is within very short walking distance (no more than a few blocks)!
  • HOST - not very welcoming unfortunately. I was very disappointed. Upon arrival, she just shook our hands and endorsed the key to her 8 or 9 year old son. Laura did not even bother to give us a quick tour, etc nor check on us during the entire trip. In my opinion, it's somewhat rude for a host to do this. Sorry. I rented apartments/houses from airbnb and all of the hosts at least greeted us with a brief orientation. Although her response time with the email was very quick. LOCATION- perfect as it is centrally located - u can surf, go to bars, shop, etc almost within 2-10 minutes of walking. APARTMENT - very clean but beds were very uncomfortable. Decently equipped kitchen. Cable and wi-fi worked very well for us. Bathroom was good, no issues. Just watch your steps going up the spiral staircase and 3 steps down to the apartment. My friend almost broke his back. Be careful and mindful of the steps(URL HIDDEN)

  • House was exactly as expected. Laura and her family were perfect hosts. They assisted us in finding things to do and making calls when needed. We visited during March and April, the hottest months. The house was pretty hot during peak hours but cooled off nicely by evening. I never had a problem with noise from the bar but my husband did. The fans really help. My sons bed had a thinner mattress that he didn't like but we layered the blankets under him and he was comfortable. The kids's fans didn't work as well as ours did but we mentioned this to Laura and knowing her, she has probably already replaced them. The location really couldn't get much better. A short walk (less than a block) from the beach and only slightly farther to stores and restaurants. We didn't rent a car for the entire month we were there. I highly recommend this rental.

    diane2015-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. Short walk (100mts) to beach and close to everything in town. Extremely helpful on setting up tours and other activities. Nicely furnished with items made with local trees. Everything you need but nothing excessive. Just right to let you relax and enjoy Costa Rica. Thanks Again, dan

    Dan2014-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at Laura's! Really great accommodations and a wonderful family. Laura and Tyrone can give you information about anything in Samara, and they are very approachable. My son even went to daycare with their adorable daughter for a few days, and spent a lot of time playing with her. The place is well laid out, clean, and has everything you could need. It’s separated enough from their home as well, so you’ll have the privacy you want. Samara is a very cool little town, and the beach is great. Lots of iguanas on/around the property! Our top suggestion for anyone visiting is to wait until low tide and go to the far west side of the beach and explore the tidepools.. you can spend hours poking about. One note for accessibility- there is a narrow spiral staircase to get up to the unit which was no problem for us, but if anyone has a hard time with stairs, it may not be ideal.

    Rachel2014-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures were exactly as Casa en el Aire is in reality. We loved the proximity to the beach. The crockpot and blender (making our own betidas daily!) were great to have. Many people we met were shocked we were staying somewhere without a/c, so just beware that the breeze and fans are your cooling mechanisms! Walked to the Pali grocery store just down the road; everything so close. Some of the friendliest people we've ever met were in Sámara - you will not be disappointed.

    MP2015-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, second time at Laura's place, a block from the beach, and close to everything downtown, kitchen is equipped with everything if you want to cook. There is a nice grocery store about a block away, Pali (a subsidiary of Walmart).

    James2016-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Laura's almost-beachfront apartment. We were warmly greeted by Laura and her family the evening we arrived and they led us up a spiral staircase to the apartment, which was indeed light and airy, with beautiful colors throughout ... very thoughtfully designed and equipped. We particularly enjoyed making meals and watching the many iguanas that live in the trees across the road...some quite enormous. One aspect of this apartment to be aware of is it location in the heart of this lively beach community. You are near several open-air beachside discos and a couple of the weekend evenings the music was loud and lasted well into the night. Mornings, on the other hand, are splendidly calm. It is a delightful place in which to wake up and start a day.

    Lisa2014-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in Samara was amazing! We didn't get to see Laura but Tyrone was extremely helpful and very nice. The apartment was just as pictures and perfect for our week there. It was just a short walk to the beach, restaurants, bars and the market. It was just right for our first trip to Costa Rica. Definitely looking forward to going again!

Casa Blue's 1.5 acre property sits on a mountain, surrounded by tropical forest and overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Up to ten guests may enjoy this beautiful and private estate with all amenities and only 15 minutes from Tamarindo.
Casa Blue's 1.5 acre property sits on a mountain, surrounded by tropical forest and overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It offers 5 bedrooms with 5.5 bathrooms. This is one of the last arquitectural jewels of the late Steve Adams (San Diego, CA) and it encloses what was most important for the creative genious: a house that is designed from the outside, in. The main house is painted in a soft pale blue, given the property its name and is reminiscent of the owner's trips to the South of France. The gate opens into an outdoor patio with a fountain and a BBQ area, the whole detailed in grey stone and giving the house a very exotic yet cozy atmosphere. The ample entrance hallway is framed in glass, allowing the sun to shower the house all day long, and immersing the guests in the fabulous landscape from the minute they step in. This main house contains the Master Bedroom, which is an ample room in a private wing, with a terrace, an office space, a walk-in closet, a bathtub and both an indoor and an outdoor shower. The two other guest bedrooms have access to terraces with hammocks, and both enjoy magnificent ocean views. An exterior stairway leads into an upper deck, suitable for yoga practice, massage sessions or just cocktail drinking at sunset time. The living area encompasses the kitchen, the dining and the living room, creating a casual and relaxed atmosphere. Bi-folding glass doors blend this area with the pool and the deck, bringing the outdoors in and making it just the ideal spot to chill. The spacious TV room with a DVD player, a book library and a comfortable couch may be separated from the rest of the house by a sliding door, thus creating a quiet place to watch a movie or the perfect game room for adults and children alike. Beautifully kept garden walkways lead to the other buildings of the house: a caretakers quarters and the two guest bungalows set in forest. These are ancient Thai buildings, all made out of wood and imported by the owner to recreate the zen energy of old Asian cultures. Both bungalows are ancrered in wood platforms thus giving the impression of being tree houses, overlooking the ocean and surrounded by green foliage all year round.
  • Casa Blue is a real gem. High elevation, great view over the forest and the ocean with complete privacy. The villa itself is very modern, fantastic outlay allowing leisure time around the infinity pool. Pictures don't give justice, hard to believe but true. True 5 star property!

  • It was a great experience, the house is stunning and has all the amenities needed for a great stay.

  • Alejandra and her staff were amazing! The open communication was much appreciated from the moment we booked to the end of our trip. The house views were breathtaking and the home itself was amazing! We had Carmen come to cook for us our first night and she was great! We rented a vehicle to get up and down the mountain on our own schedules and although it was a little rocky it was still manageable. I definitely recommend getting a 4 wheel drive vehicle if you are planning to rent. The beach and town was about 20 minutes away. We went to explore beaches and arranged for excursions that included transportation to pick us up at Tamarindo beach. If you are looking for a luxurious relaxing home they is secluded for your group I would recommend staying at Casa Blue. Thank you again Alejandra and staff for making our trip an unforgettable stay!

    Tracy2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Casa blue was incredible! If you think the pictures are amazing, they do not even come close to seeing it for yourself. The house has everything you could need, is impeccably maintained, and such a beautiful private place it is. Our experience was everything we could have hoped for and more. The staff was incredible too! Recommend being experienced driving uphill on dirt roads as this is the norm in Costa Rica, and on the street where the home is located. Cannot wait to come back to Casa Blue.

    Melissa2015-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • I had no idea how to start this review. There were so many highs about this trip. So I shall begin with this- PURA VIDA! The context is that this was for our friend's benchmark Birthday. We wanted something different and fun. Casa Blue, or Maison Bleue, was more than that. As soon as you arrive you will be lien away, as our guest of honor was. The house is a mixture of outdoors and indoors, large windows, rustic imported wood, open concept, and flowing energy. The view over the cliff past the infinity pool is beyond breathtaking. It reminded some of my friends of Los Angeles. It reminded me of South East Asia. But this is the heart of Costa Rica which I realize is just out of this world with indigenous species. The house is huge. The master bedroom takes up a whole floor and there are different rooftops. The landscaping is amazing. The surrounding jungle calls out with life during the day and at night. We were lucky enough to see monkeys and get stalked by an unknown animal in the jungle outside the property. Good times. You do NOT need your own Bluetooth speaker. The house has a surround sound system. You do need to do some supermarket shopping, preferably on your wY from Liberia airport. You do NOT need to leave if you crave tranquility and a great atmosphere at home with friends. Last, but not least, thank you Alejandra, Elgin, Carmen, Fabien, Hector and Jocelyn. This is the dream team. They each play a star role making your stay phenomenal. An example, Alejandra made sure we had a chocolate cake in the house along with some important items that we weren't able to get coming from the airport. Hector had his friend who drove us stop and buy us a bag of coffee on our way back to Liberia. The people of Costa Rica made this amazing. I will definitely return! 5 stars is not enough. P.S. If you get a chance do an all day tour and see bull riding on Saturday night in town along way to Tamarindo.

  • Incredible stay, beautiful house, perfect location, phenomenal view...Definitely coming back next time I come to Costa Rica! Thank you Alejandra!!!

  • The house was absolutely beautiful and perfect for our group of 8. The pool was awesome; the beds very comfortable and loved the remoteness! Alexandra was very responsive and the house staff very helpful. We highly recommend Fabien as your chef; we used him every night!! Great place!!

    Debora2015-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Casa Blue exceeded all our expectations. Alejandra and staff were so friendly and helpful, we couldnt have asked for more. No until you get to the home can you tell just how open lay out it is, which is amazing with the ability to open up doors and windows to create the perfect breeze throughout the home! Everything was so comfortable and beautiful, with so much in the little details of the decorating of the home, which gave such a wonderful Costa Rican vibe. We loved the location because it made it easy for us to get to all the beaches whether tamarindo or the other direction to playa flamingo. We definitely want to come back and spend more time here. Perfect place to take a group, can't say enough good things! We didn't want to leave!

Small Industrial Style studio apartment perfect for a couple of days stay in San Jose or it can also be great if you plan a longer stay. It is in a six floor building that has been in the family for almost fifty years now, it used to be an office complex and for many years it was the home of the offices for a very prestigious international bank. After the bank Left, I decided to change the purpose of the building and remodel it for living purposes, Studio #404 is one of the twelve apartments that make up for the condominium. It is small, very cozy and it has everything you will need for a pleasent stay, it's fully equipped with all the amenities , kitchen, microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, toaster, you will find all you need to cook, there is even a screw cork in case you are in a mood for some wine. It has a full size bunk bed and a pull over couch, which can accommodate comfortably an adult or a small child. There is a dinning table which sits three very comfortably. It has access to internet and digital television with a 24 " TV, you can count with hot water and a very nice and comfortable shower with body gel and shampoo. The apartment is Located on the fourth floor, on the Street side of the building, and there is an elevator.
The place is located close to down town hotels, parks and museums, it is in the heart of San Jose Down town. Although San José has a population of less than three hundred thousand it is a hop all provinces and more than one million people come and go everyday, in consequence it is a very busy and crowded city during the day and lonely at night. The studio is in the fourth floor of the building to the side of the street, it can get noisy in certain hours of the day, but it is quiet at night. Like any city that you are getting to know you should never be over confident.
  • We loved staying at Marie's apartment! We called it our home base while in San José - we liked it so much we stayed here two separate times! Cool apartment, cool location - great for walking to hip neighborhoods. Marie goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. It is slightly confusing to find at first - it is a somewhat unmarked glass doorway next to a bakery, but Marie was super communicative so we had no problems. I'll stay here again next time I'm in San José!

  • Marie's place was great, clean, and secure. Being in a city and in a different country can be intimidating, however with the help of Marie we were able to enjoy or stay with no stress. The building is very safe and clean. Marie also provided us with great tips and locations we can visit during our stay in San Jose. Thank you Marie !

  • Great small place to get to know the city. Centric near many lovely parks, you can walk around a lot. Near the vieja aduana in escalante. 15min walk.

  • My girlfriend and I just returned from a 10-day trip to Costa Rica, and we stayed at Marie's apartment the first night we arrived in San Jose. The apartment was exactly as pictured: modern, clean, and comfortable. Although Marie was not available to help us get checked in, the building manager was on site and helped us get settled in. Marie was helpful in providing advice on how to get around the areas surrounding the apartment, and she even left a couple of juice boxes in the fridge for us as well as coffee for us to brew. Unfortunately, the neighborhood did not seem as safe as we had expected based on the description of the apartment. There was also sidewalk construction right in front of the building that we were not aware of in advance, which made it difficult to enter and exit the building; but Marie apologized for this and it was only a minor inconvenience. In summary, the apartment itself was very nice and a good value, but because of the location we probably would not stay here again.

    Ben2015-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. The apartment was perfect for our needs - spotlessly clean, comfortable, very centrally located, and with good wifi and other amenities. Marie is so warm, welcome and accommodating, speaks perfect English and gave us lots of useful information about San Jose and Costa Rica. Check in and out was very easy, despite us leaving very early to catch a bus. I would definitely stay again!

    Claire2015-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent experience with Marie as host, always very attentive to all our needs, their recommendations for activities and things to do were spot on. The apartment meets all requirements and we really liked to have shared these days and know San Jose Center with this perspective. Mariee Thanks !!

perfect place to relax , enjoy the best of costa rica
  • We LOVED staying here for the two weeks we had in Costa Rica! It is a central location for easy access to Manuel Antonio Park (one hour away) and there was a lot to do and see in the area. It is close enough to the main part of Jaco to walk or bike to shops and restaurants, but just far enough out of town to be very quiet and peaceful (except for roosters in the morning which are everywhere in Costa Rica). We had a 24 hour security person, use of two bikes and a gorgeous and well-cared for pool. The space was great; clean, spacious, fully equipped kitchen, lots of natural light and AC that cools the whole place quickly. It was great to have a kitchen since food in the restaurants can be expensive. It truly became our home away for home!

  • Ami's place was great! Located a walk away from the liveliness of Jaco and a 5 minute drive from the waves at Playa Hermosa. The condo was clean and spacious providing the comforts of home like the ability to stay in to cook, wash laundry, and stay connected with good wifi. The condo was located within a gated community with a 24 hour attendant with beautiful scenery and a pool for cooling down and relaxing. Ami was also very responsive to communication and available for any issues. Anyone would overly satisfied with a stay at Ami's place.

  • The place is wonderful is fully furnished and everything is excellent. We had a wonderful time the pools are great. And it is near the center but retired to enjoy La Paz Beach.

    Gabriela2016-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Booked same day as staying. Easy to get keys from lock box. Condo was clean and just as described. This could have easily been a condo in any major North American city - definitely above CR standards. Lots of towels, hand soap in bathrooms, shampoo and body wash in showers. Showers had good water pressure. Kitchen was fully equipped. Note: there is only AC in the bedrooms and not family room or kitchen. Make sure to bring laundry detergent if you plan on doing laundry. When we arrived the TV in the family room was not there (being repaired) which was kind of annoying but not a big deal.

  • Had a great experience with the entirety of the property. The gate guards were extremely helpful and Carlos provided us with excellent transportation service. Amnon gave us great tips on places to eat and excursion to partake in! Definitely looking forward to my next trip down and staying at this property. I felt like he planned my whole vacation! Thank you for making this a great trip for my group! Pura Vida!

Described as a Little Paradise in Monteverde. Secluded yet accessible The house is made of local wood and glass, light and spacious, with a wrap-around deck perfect for bird watching and listening to the sounds of the toucans and howler monkeys.
Your own private home right in the Cloud forest open concept with private spaces perfect for a couple self sufficient and within walking distance of restaurants and stores, half way between Monteverde and Santa Elena Described as, "feels like a retreat, a little paradise." light, bright, cozy.
The road up to the house is rocky and you need to have a 4 x4 wheel drive car with good clearance.
  • Highly recommended! We would definitely stay here again if we returned to Monteverde. The house has a beautiful layout with lots of windows, and the large balcony is perfect for enjoying the cloud forest. We did not have a car on our trip and it was easy to walk to restaurants and the grocery store. Tours can pick you up from the neighbouring Hotel Belmar. Tanya was very easy to communicate with, and the family who takes care of the house was ready to welcome us as soon as we arrived in Monteverde.

    Sandra2015-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • Tanyas House is simply perfect! A wonderful place in a wonderful setting right in the forest. The house has a great architecture with all the big windows and we really felt like home there. We loved the kitchen and didnt go out for Dinner for 3 days cause we wanted to spend the time in the House and on the terace . It gets cold in the evening, you definitly will need a sweater. We had a car which is more comfortable to get around in the area and to the house but no need. Organisation was easy. Thank you Tanya for sharing your great house with us!

    Elvira2015-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • I would highly recommend this house if you are looking for some peace and quiet. It is sort of secluded, we didn't have a vehicle but had no problem getting around, can walk to town in about twenty five minutes or a cab is cheap. The view is really nice, the house is surrounded by lush green forest, lots of windows to enjoy the surroundings. The owner is very accommodating, even from a different country. Very positive experience in our three nights here!

    Carrie2014-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Tonya was incredibly responsive and the listing was completely accurate. This was one of the best vacation places I have ever stayed. It is quite literally in the rain forest with all the comforts of home and a spectacular view of the forest. We could not ask for anything more from a place to stay in Monte Verde with access to the town and the Cloud Rain Forest preserve.

    Bernard2016-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! I loved loved this house. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. I would love to come back! It's absolutely gorgeous and serene. Looks like the pictures only better!

    anne2016-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • It was so relaxing, cozy, & romantic. Lovely way to end an adventurous week-long road trip in Costa Rica (starting in La Fortuna, heading to Nosara, & ending in the beautiful cloud forest/mountains of Monteverde). The house is breathtaking & so incredibly peaceful. We walked to Hotel Belmont (so close - less than a 10min walk) & did yoga & enjoyed a juice from their juice bar. Then we walked back there to have dinner on a gorgeous deck in a romantic restaurant looking out at the stars. We did the cloud forest walk to see one of the hanging bridges, which was just okay (relaxing light walk!), but overall two days in Monteverde was incredible & the aibnb really made our stay perfect.

    Danielle2016-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful home located in the middle of the rain forest. There is a fully equipped kitchen and a washer and dryer which was very useful. If you fill the hummingbird feeders (directions included..make sure the feeder is clean) you will be rewarded with beautiful flying jewels! The house if very comfortable and the view into the forest is beautiful. Be sure to hike the trails downhill from the (URL HIDDEN) is beautiful. Be sure to arrive in town well before dark to meet up with the manager who will take you to the house...coming in after dark will just get you lost...but if you do the manager will help you out! It is important to remember that you have to walk several minutes to the house down a well maintained trail that is lighted at night. It is part of the charm of this quiet spot. A great stay for my husband and I!

Rustic private beach home in front of the most famous beach home in the surf town of Playa Hermosa, where world championships have been hosted. Enjoy waking up to the sound of ocean waves & macaws with a private pool overlooking the ocean. Our front fence gate opens to the beach. Sand & waves are at your footsteps. Walk right to the laid back beach front restaurants, bars and surf shops or head left to the desolate beaches of the Playa Hermosa - Punta Mala Wildlife National Refuge. Surf heaven!
This beachfront private beach home lies right in front of the Pacific Ocean in a corner property next to the main highway. It consists of two homes, one for your exclusive use. Your 2-story rustic wood getaway has 5 bedrooms & 3 bathrooms. Upstairs it features a lounge area with a hammock & rocking chairs, a bathroom, 2 bedrooms with queen beds, each to accomodate 2 guests plus a bedroom with 3 single beds. Downstairs is a kitchen, a living/eating area facing the pool & ocean, a common bathroom, a room with a private bathroom & queen bed plus another bedroom with 2 single beds. The house is ideal for 3 couples & 5 individuals or groups ranging from 8 to 11 people. The kitchen includes a fridge, a gas stove, microwave, dishes, glasses, coffee maker, blender, small counter top oven, pots & pans plus cooking utensils. Sheets, towels, soap & shampoo are provided. Bring your beach towels, mosquito repellent & most importantly, a bathing suit & sunblock. There is an onsite person that guards & maintains the property. The swimming pool lies in between the house & the beach. It's a perfect spot for the most beautiful sunsets & surf shows. There is an outdoor shower area in between plantain trees overlooking the ocean. A rustic BBQ is also available. Wifi is available as well as fans in every bedroom and living /lounge areas. A very large deck with a large custom wood dining table, rocking chairs, sofa & hammocks is available when the owners are not present in the next door house. Secure parking is available inside the property for 4 cars. Playa Hermosa is a quiet beach town known worldwide for its surfing - it hosted the world surf championships a few years back. Saturday afternoons surfers & surf fans fight for parking to witness world-class surfing at the weekly surf competitions, viewed from the privacy of your beach home. The property is located at the end of the town & the beginning of a natural reserve that preserves sea turtle nestling. It abuts the main highway known as La Costanera to the east, the Backyard hotel to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the west & an open cattle field to the south. Small restaurants, surf & a few small shops are located within walking distance. Due to the town's proximity to virgin rainforest, you will likely see Scarlet macaws on a daily basis. Iguanas roam freely all over the property. Our country is notorious for bad roads & bad signage. For most flexibility, we recommend you hire a 4x4 with low mileage and either bring or rent a GPS. Waze is very handy! If you plan to party at night in Jaco, taxis can easily be hired for pick up and will be available in town for drop off. Always be careful with your belongings, as it is the case with all of Latin America. Bring your own surfboard, rent or take surf lessons in town but be mindful of the extremely strong ocean currents. A yoga center is less than 1 km away. Local tours include bungee jumping in Jaco, sport fishing in Los Suenos Golf Resort & Marina, horseback riding through jungle trails or along the beach, hikes to waterfalls, kayaking, biking, ATV rides, canopy ziplining & whitewater rafting. On site massages can be arranged too. Other day trips include Tortuga Island, Carara National Park & Manuel Antonio National Park visits. The property ia located 1.5 hrs away from San Jose & 5 min from the bustling tiwb of Jaci, where you wilk dknd ATMs, nightlife, restaurants, supermarkets, souvenir skhops & all sorts of retail. Please note there is no air conditioning or hot water.

  • We had a wonderful time, our host had a caretaker who was very helpful. The swimming pool and beach were excellent. Catarina always replied our questions within a few minutes- a great plus for any guest considering this property. Our party of 5 enjoyed every moment our stay. Would recommend this place for any group of 5-8 people.

    Raquel2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • We were welcomed by Yolanda, Catarina's mom. She gave us a quick tour and some fresh fruit as well as introduced us to the man who takes care of the grounds and was then on her way. The property is absolutely beautiful and very well taken care of. The pool is beautiful and a great way to cool off any time of the day. The beach is spectacular: clean and beautiful, the closest thing to paradise we've ever seen. We were warned prior to our trip as well as by Yolanda when we arrived that the waves can be a bit rough. We swam in the ocean every day with our kids (12, 12, 11 and 9) and we were all fine but we did stay right with them and were careful not to go out farther to where we could touch with our heads above the water. Although we didn't have the pleasure of meeting Catarina in person, she was very prompt in responding to our texts and had a wealth of knowledge to share about restaurants and things to do. There are lots of options close by and you can do as much or as little as you wish. We did our grocery shopping at he Maxi Pali and also drove into a grocery store in Herradura where there was more of a selection of produce. Catarina told us about Pizza Bocha, a restaurant a few doors down, that had awesome pizza and we ate there twice. We did note that the road was at times a bit noisy in the bedrooms that line the back of the house when we were going to bed at night but it the noise stopped around 9:30 - 10:00 pm or so and was quiet through the night. The traffic from the road cannot be heard at all by the pool on the ocean side of the house. We had a terrific time and are looking to return next year. Catarina, Yolanda and Derby were all gracious hosts.

    Skye2016-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • The details in the post on this house are right on! I loved staying there and the noise did not bother me but it did some light sleepers in the group.

    Karen2017-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • The place is just great! Was so comfortable, the kitchen has everything we needed, we did BBQ two nights, and there was all necessary to do it! Some of my friends complaint about the noise of the highway (as is specified on the characteristics of the house) but honestly I Never listened anything. The pool was delicious and big enough! Everything was clean and ready when we arrived and Derby was so nice and help us with everything we need. I just recommend to bring a good bugs repellent because that literally can eat you! (I went on reining season so is worst on this time of the year). And the fans where good enough for the heat of the day and night.

    Rebeca2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Recommended!!! I would love to be in a place oceanfront pool and privacy; this place met my expectations. , Well laid out, clean, comfortable beds with good pillows. Rustic but comfortable house For being front road is expected noise of cars at night, a situation that can be solved with a little plugs, although most of my family did not bother them. We will be back!!!

  • My friends and I recently visited Costa Rica and I must say that our experience was complete thanks to the great hospitality at Catarina's house. The house was better than we expected and well located. We were all very pleased and satisfied with the convenience of having a pool while were just a few steps from the one of the most famous beaches of Costa Rica which is playa hermosa. I strongly recommend this Catarina's house and I can assure you that anyone would be adding extra points during their vacation just by renting her property. Fabio Garcia

The casita also has an outside deck, which is facing the jungle, and is perfect for relaxation and yoga practice. There is access to massage, yoga classes and other therapeutic sessions. You can take yoga classes twice a day at the nearby yoga retreat, which is a 10 minute walk away. There is horse back riding at the nearby beach which can be organized for you. We have two adorable cats and two friendly dogs living on the property. The big communal yoga platform is available throughout the day. During the months of June - November it is a rainy season, so that the nature is more lush. Although it is in a secluded area, you can take a hike through the jungle to a beautiful beach that is a 30-40 minute walk. It's a 7 minute drive to the peaceful fishermen's beaches of San Juanillo. Stunning and powerful black sand beach is about 5 min drive away. The yoga and surf mecca Nosara is 30-40 minutes away by car. You can find a variety of restaurants, shops, bars, yoga and surfing classes in Nosara. The nearby village San Juanillo also offers a couple of very good restaurants that are catering to the tourists. Halfway between San Juanillo and Nosara there is the small village of Ostional which is perfect for turtle watching. House rules - please keep music down, no alcohol, no meat (vegetarian food only) preferably no tobacco on the land.
We are located a 7 minute drive away from a fishermen's village San Juanillo, which features some stunning beaches, as well as a couple of nice restaurants. We are a 30-40 minute drive away from Nosara, which is a yoga and surf mecca. You can find a variety of restaurants, shops and bars in Nosara.
  • Shlomo, oh, Shlomo! The energy of this place is amazing, thanks to the love and effort Shlomo has put into building this dream scape. First, the host is a good dose of positive energy when you meet. He is so smiley and his laugh is infectious. Hearing the story of his place is compelling enough to make one ditch their homeland and buy a plot of land like his. Shlomo has been building this land up for 7 years. Each casita has been labored by the man himself, from trees and materials produced on the land you stay on. They're funky, they're well made, and it's just amazing. He also grows many organic plants and invited us to do yoga with him the two mornings we were there. The porches of the Casitas all have hammocks and are great for afternoon monkey watching, or sleeping all the way through the night.....until the monkeys wake you up again with those lovely howls in the morning. You can just feel the love all over that property. Even, Shlomo's two dogs give you all the affection you need. The place is located far enough to where you need a car, but just a short short drive to San Juanillo beach to watch sunset and have dinner at Buddha Bar. Or, about 30 minutes to the small town of Guiones to have a slow beach/town day. Make sure to pick up some of Alya Farms basil hummus, organic peanut butter and almond butter while there. Shlomo makes it himself and sells it just to the local area. Sooooo happy we finished our trip here. Definitely gonna make It back.

  • Shlomo and his property were amazing! Shlomo was incredibly kind and generous with us and the location of his property is very secluded with lots of great jungle sounds to wake up to in the morning. We were lucky enough to see a group of howler monkeys 20 ft from our casita! We hope to see him again soon!

  • Shlomo was great! He even met us in town to guide us back to his place upon our arrival. His Casita was beautiful! Handcrafted by himself with evident pride and care. His suggestions of what to do and where to go were invaluable. His attitude and positive outlook was pleasant and infectious! He was a fantastic host and his rental set up is excellent!

  • My girlfriend Kelsey and I had a great time staying with Shlomo! He was an awesome host. He was there and willing to help us with anything that we needed. We were very impressed with how he was able to make the place cozy without compromising the surrounding nature. We really enjoyed spending time with Shlomo. He's truly pura vida!

  • Wow! Shlomo was such a gracious host and his property is absolutely beautiful. We felt a sense of absolute calm as soon as we arrived. His yoga class was wonderful, and exactly the rejuvenating experience we needed! Very close to San Juanilla, a charming beach village (without the commercialization of nearby Nosara). A 4X4 vehicle is definitely recommended for this area. Be sure to check out La Sodita when you're there!

  • The accuracy of previous review covers everything. Teek floors and custom windows to match the growth of the nature trees. Aamazing. This place, while still developing has a very laid back, extremely inviting charm that was a pleasure to experience. Costa Rica and its non address, dirt roads thru rivers and old bridges is definitely a eye opener. But, Shlomo!!! He is a one of a kind, hospitable GEM!

  • This place was amazing! The absolute perfect location....close to everything but just far enough away that the monkeys come for afternoon visits in the surrounding trees. The house is magical...we spent most of our time lounging on the beautiful wrap around deck and watching all of the wildlife. Marina was a wonderful host, very attentive and helpful. Would absolutely recommend staying here. Can't wait to visit again!

  • This place is in a great location. It's a bit hidden which is actually really nice. The home is perfect and has AC which really makes sleeping comfortable in the heat and humdity comfortable. Our last day there, we had monkeys sleeping in the trees just outside the property. It's also just a short walk to the beach and all the restaurants, bars, and shops. I highly recommend staying here if you're looking to stay in the area.

  • My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time at Marina's place! After the shuttle from the airport, Marina met me right across the street from the place and she showed me around the casa. There was fresh fruit and a couple beers in the fridge which was much appreciated after a long travel day. The place is nice and cozy - you feel secluded even though the house is near some happening spots! You'll hear music in the evenings but it didn't bother us... just toss on the A/C at night and you'll sleep like a baby. The outdoor kitchen is great for cooking breakfast or heating up some leftover grub from local spots. There's even a market nearby to get some eggs, fruit, etc. Watch out for the ants though! The hammock and outdoor seating are a nice way to relax and unwind after beach-hanging; you can be outside and sit in the shade. Comfy bed, great ambience, sweet interior setup and bathroom, close to everything - we definitely recommend it!

  • Our stay at Casa Mambo was amazing. The house keeps cool and the air conditioned bedroom was amazing. We enjoyed lounging in the hammock on the porch and watching the monkeys in the trees. The house is convenient to everything in town and a close walk to the beach. It's also settled back far enough for privacy. Marina was a very courteous hostess. She met us when we arrived and walked us through the house before leaving us alone. She was also available if we had any questions or concerns as she lives next to Casa Mambo. We definitely hope to stay again soon!

  • Marina was an exceptional host! Greeted us and helped us up to with our bags. Was prompt at answering questions we had about the town. We have only been gone for 1 day and we are already missing Tamarindo and staying at this beautiful house! We enjoyed cooking and relaxing in the outside kitchen area: and she had everything we needed. The house was clean, and very welcoming. If you make your way through Tamarindo, don't miss out on this amazing place! Book NOW!! :)

This large, vaulted-ceilinged Villa is surrounded by glass on three sides and enjoys magnificent views of Cerro Pico Blanco, the nature reserve and the rainforest. It has a king bed and waking up is like being perched in the middle of the mountains.
See (email hidden)
  • We enjoyed our short stay. Raymond was very responsive in setting up our stay just one night before our stay. I did not meet Raymond, but he quickly responded to any questions I had via the app messenger. The views are amazing. I wish a view of downtown was also possible from the villa, but is easy to enjoy coming up or down the hill to the villa. We decided to walk down the hill and eat at Restaurante de Espana. My partner and I were a little nervous walking after dark some place we never have been. I asked the guard if it was safe and he said we'd be okay. What was unexpected were the dogs walking down with us, as though they were escorting us. They even kept our path clear from other neighborhood dogs. We missed our own dog back home, so it was a nice treat to have them take us under their guard. The food was great at the restaurant. And, it was easy to easy to get an Uber back up the hill. I think it would be helpful if there was some information to help people find the basics i.e., grocery store, convenience store and a short list of good restaurants that you would recommend. There was a hand written laminated map, but I didn't really understand what it was showing me. Overall it was a good experience.

    Jim2017-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful view! Raymond was super helpful as we got a bit lost finding our way :) We are dog lovers so having little pooch visits in the morning was lovely! It's close to the airport but allow for traffic, took us about and hour or so. Car is essential. Overall a good place to stay.. my only reservation is that the decor is looking a little tired and could do with a little revamp! Nice little local restaurant just 5 mins drive, lovely local food!

    Jonathan2017-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous view and apartment. The bathroom was clean with a nice tub. All linens smelled lovely, as did the fresh breeze from the mountains. I didn't want to leave. My only complaint was no hair dryer or iron, as noted in the listing. Not the biggest problem though. I enjoyed a quiet and relaxing evening up there, and the morning was terrific as well. The guards were friendly and helpful. Wifi was good, bed was comfy. Again, a view to die for. I didn't meet Raymond but he was very helpful prior to my arrival, and was available by phone the only time I needed to call (I didn't see the guard when I first arrived, but I just called Raymond who told me to honk; once we honked he came right down.) he calls it the Beverly Hills of Costa Rica in the listing and it absolutely is. I've stayed in nice hotels in San Jose before, but I think I'll return to this spot next time I'm in the city, there's nothing like it. Lindísimo!

  • Beatiful area!! Loved the property. Amazing view! Felt super secure.

    Amy2016-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful apartment - just as described. Bed was really comfy and shower pressure good! Was very clean - no bugs at all. Raymond was a lovely host and was very helpful and friendly, giving my boyfriend and I advice with our onward travel plans. He was very responsive to all my messages throughout the booking process and while I was there. My only advice - use the taxi service Raymond is happy to organise into town. We walked on a hot day and wished we had taken a cab. It's not too expensive either so worth it! Was the perfect getaway if you want somewhere quiet and remote, conveniently near to the airport. Book with confidence! Thanks Raymond!!

  • I love the house and the condo, great, safe and very comfortable for a family of 5. The location is perfect and Ammon was so attentive and great host.

  • Stayed at Amnon's place for a couple of weeks. It was exactly as described. Very close to beach, safe, and near all the great places in Jaco. The condo is fully furnished and has all those small things that a house needs that you just don't pack when traveling! Amnon's wasn't just about the condo, he was a very accommodating host. He can help you with suggestions of places to eat and things to do. He arranged transportation and showed us some of the hidden gems of Costa Rica that we never would have found on our own. I can not speak highly enough of his property, location or of him as a host. Our stay was an absolute pleasure! Thanks Ami!

    chris2015-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • The condo is in a great location, just a short walk to the beach. The whole complex is very secure with 24 hour guards. Ami remodeled everything and it looks and feels very modern - however a little smaller than the pictures look. This wasn't a problem at all for the 2 of us. The king sized bed was very comfortable. We didn't use the bunks. The kitchen had everything we needed, although we didn't cook. The pool is an awesome place to relax, but sadly although the rules say "no bebidas o alimientos en la piscina" they really mean in the entire pool area, not just in the water. The security guard came over and told us we couldn't have beers at our chairs. I guess it's better to be on that extreme than the other. The information packet that Ami provides is extremely helpful - we based most of our food decisions on it. Ami graciously held our luggage for us on our checkout day and swam with us a bit before our bus took us back to the airport. We'd stay here again without hesitation. Thanks Ami!

  • Great place with an even better location! Condo was right next to pool which made jumping in to to cool off easy. The beach is right down the road and great restaurants are even closer. Definitely will be back next time in jaco!

  • The condo was super nice, AC cold, we found everything super clean. The location is perfect, it's in the middle of downtown Jacó, the beach is across the street. Amnon was nothing but helpful, he answered all my questions super quick and he let us check out late which was great!!

Beautifully designed open air home just steps from the beach.
Casa Troya reflects the typical home design of the Osa Peninsula with its half-height walls and natural, local building materials. It has a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom downstairs and a loft partitioned into two bedrooms upstairs. The overall aesthetic of this home evokes a sense of movement as the lines of the structure resemble a wave, ship or an animal, depending on one's perspective. The house is situated just 50 meters from the beach offering views of the water and a nice ocean breeze. Casa Troya offers a comfortable and inspired place to spend your vacation. Internet is not available at the house, however, is available in a different structure on the property that is about a 2 minute walk from the house.
Cabo Matapalo, known by the locals as simply Matapalo, is a small community located 15 km south on a bumpy dirt road from the town of Puerto Jimenez. The area consists of a scattering of eco-lodges and rental homes with one local bar. There are no banks or grocery stores, so make sure to stock up in Puerto Jimenez before heading out. Over the years, Matapalo has become a surf destination. It borders a beach along the Pacific Ocean that routinely ushers in large swells. There are several areas to surf. The waves vary in difficulty, allowing for beginner to expert surfing opportunity. The abundant wildlife also makes this area popular among travelers. Four species of monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans, sloths, agoutis, and coatimundis are just a small sample of the wildlife that one sees on a regular basis. The Audobon Society has named Cabo Matapalo one of the premiere bird watching venues in the world. Matapalo is where travelers go to be at one with nature and find ultimate relaxation. The pristine rainforests and rugged natural beauty of the Osa Peninsula make this region one of the most beautiful areas in Costa Rica. Declared one of the most biologically intense places on Earth by National Geographic Magazine, the Osa Peninsula has become the premier eco-tourism destination in the country. The Osa Peninsula is a secluded nature wonderland, playing home to many of the country’s rare and endangered animal and bird species, including squirrel monkeys, jaguars, and other forest cats. With a large chunk of the peninsula forming the Corcovado National Park, this area has the single largest expanse of lowland tropical rainforest in Central America and is one of the tallest rainforests in the world. The area hosts more than 375 bird species, a fourth of Costa Rica's tree species and more than (phone number hidden) vascular plant species, many of which are found nowhere else on earth. The rain forest is made up of 700 tree species — the greatest diversity of tree species in all of Central America.
  • We had such a lovely stay - the place is beautiful... If only it could have been for longer! Tranquility ️

  • This place is just wonderful! Enjoying a piece of paradise directly on the beach. we loved everything about it.

    Claudia2016-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • The Bamboo House is Awesome! Manuel and Grace were wonderful hosts (Grace made dinner one night for us and treated us like family). We rarely saw anyone else while we were there, just a few folks in the distance. We saw scarlet macaws every morning; the first morning, my son counted 68! The beach was as close as you can get and lovely - some rocks so bring water shoes if you have sensitive feet. The house was unique and beautiful; the shower, my fave of all time. We heard howler monkeys but never saw them, though we think some monkeys visited while we were out and stole our soap :) Now, the not so great news - there are bugs! You are in the rain forest! All of us got bit, but the bites never itched. However, with the bugs come bats. Very cool to watch them flying around the top of the house in the morning and evening. One roosted within our sight on the thatch roof - we named her Batswana. Kids loved it! The kids also had a blast using a bowl from the house to make a hermit crab habitat and played for hours with the crabs. If you are the sort that needs air conditioning and cannot stand bugs, this is not the place for you and you are surely missing out! We added an extra day because we loved it so much. We are hoping to visit again!! Oh, one last thing - the road out to the house is not great, just drive slow and have patience. That said, stock up at the store because once you settle in, you will not want to leave!

  • By far our favourite stay in Costa Rica! A great base to explore Corcovado. The open bamboo house is even better then the pictures! Spacious, comfy and a joy to stay in, we loved having nature all around us. We've had a very warm welcome and hosts who help out with tours, activities and much more! Thank you!

  • Great Location. That's how Paradise probably looks like.

    Beat2016-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • This location is incredible, I want to keep it a secret. It is a large property with multiple structures. It is essentially glamping, a large structure with canopy beds, outdoor shower, electricity and hot water, but no windows or doors. The ocean is a stone's throw away and you can hear it at night. There are macaws flying overhead everyday!!! The hosts were lovely and met us when we arrived, gave us information about the area and offered us services (massage, horseback riding, snorkeling, Park tour). We did beach horseback riding ($60) and then rappelled down a waterfall ($5) and it was incredible!!! What an amazing experience! The location requires a 25 min drive on a dirt road (they are ALL dirt roads, none of this area is paved) from the Puerto Jimenez airport. There is a nearby ecolodge with a canopy bar to see monkeys and toucans. There is a local bar (Martina's) that has a small market (jewelry, soaps, etc) on Friday night, great food and drinks- there is a great crowd on Friday night. The town of Puerto Jimenez is small but has gas, pharmacy, bank and supermarket. I cannot wait to come back here!

    Stephanie2017-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • The place is beatiful and so relaxing! Is about 20 min from puerto Jiménez downtown and the road is good. Everyone was so nice, they wait for us and gave us all the instructions for our staying. The kitchen is full equipped, the beds are so comfortable! This is a place where you connect with nature and if you are going with your couple is an amazing and romantic place. Imagine waking up with the sound of the waves just in front of you. Totally recommended.

    Kevin2016-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Playa Sombrero is a wonderful place on Osa. The property had everything we could hope for. Being able to completely disconnect and live in the jungle was amazing. The bamboo house has given us great memories and we can't wait to get back.

Our home is one of the top-rated in Costa Rica. Guests enjoy splendid views and privacy yet are close to many attractions and amenities. Experience an "authentic" Tico experience in a picturesque and friendly village just 7 km from Arenal Volcano.
Our 'Castle in The Clouds' is just seven km from Volcano Arenal, perched 700m above sea-level overlooking the volcano, rainforest, pastures and Lake Arenal. Wake to the sound of howler monkeys, toucans and parrots and enjoy your first cup of locally-grown coffee on our enormous 25 sq. m. covered deck. At night, watch the lava flows or count the stars overhead. Our home features a splash pool to cool off after a busy day of eco-adventuring. You can walk to many attractions in the village, including several quaint local restaurants. The home features casual dining indoor or out, hot water throughout, and stunning views from every room. It is completely equipped with a full-sized fridge with ice-maker, gas stove, microwave and blender and includes twice-weekly cleaning service (more often optional on request). An optional personal laundry service is also available. Active or passive, this is the perfect home base for your Arenal vacation! In the last few months, we've been busy landscaping our property. We now feature a paved driveway, a separate covered Gazebo (perfect for al fresco dining) and the yard has been completely enclosed with a custom-made 5' stone and wrought-iron fence. You'll enjoy our garden paradise yard featuring a variety of local and tropical plants designed to maximize your Costa Rica experience. Now-Book Local Tours and Attractions: Tomas and Hannah, owners of La Gavilana (www.facebook.com/lagavilanaherbsandart), our on-site hosts can now book many local tours and attractions for you on your arrival, saving you the hassle of running around. From zip-line tours, hot springs, spas and volcano hikes to a horseback ride to a real eco-farm or a two day hike through pristine rainforest, you can be as busy or as relaxed as you like, but you'll never run out of things to do in the area. Just ask Tomas when you arrive and he'll be happy to make recommendations and reservations for you.
El Castillo is an authentic Tico village. The horses and cattle will pass your door each day. The locals are very friendly and will happily stop and chat. There are a couple of small groceries in the village and several restaurants, but walk up the mountain road a bit and you will be in the jungle with spectacular views in all directions.
  • The place was great! The townsfolk were very friendly helpful in getting us there; it was absolutely pouring rain and Juan Tortuga called Tomas for us to let him know we were on the way. House was perfect for us! It was so nice being able to cook. Breathtaking views and great hikes just from the house. Thank you!

    Madison2015-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really great time there! El Castillo house is awesome! I particullary enjoyed the gravy road also, with nice views. I recommend heartfully to visit them. Hope we get back soon!

    Alex2015-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • This house was incredible, and Tomas could not have been more helpful or accommodating. He assisted us with arranging transportation, finding dinner our first night and, most impressively, helping us dig our car out of a ditch (4x4 is definitely recommended!) There are dining options within walking distance (Essence Arenal offers great vegetarian dishes), and the views from the house are absolutely spectacular. You will not regret staying at this haven- it is an escape yet provides all the comforts of home. We would not hesitate to return!

    Joanna2016-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great house and overall a wonderful experience. It's in a very convenient location for access to many parks and various things to do (Sky Trek, Arenal Observatory Lodge, horseback riding, rafting, etc.). The last road leading to the house is pretty bumpy and steep so definitely suggest a 4x4 vehicle, but by no means should this be a reason to hold you back from staying here. This is a great place to enjoy all the interior of Costa Rica has to offer.

    Jamie2015-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, quiet location overlooking the village of El Castillo. Prime views across Lake Arenal and Arenal Volcano. Lovely walks up into the jungle above and behind the house. Mornings were a delight to wake up to the beautiful view and the sounds of wildlife just outside. Breakfast every morning in the Gazebo watching all the hummingbirds dancing through the Porterweed was too lovely for words. If you're looking for a little bit of seclusion and a quiet spot close to some stunning, adrenalin packed Costa Rican adventures, this is a perfect spot. Don't miss the Butterfly Conservatory. It's packed with amazing surprises and there's hardly a sole there! Communication with the owner was efficient. The local hosts are located down the hill in their own home/business. If you need assistance with anything, Tomas is just a phone call away. There's a phone in the house! Just give him a call. We were wishing seclusion, so didn't have need to bother him, but he checked up on us and made sure we had everything we needed. I did leave a few suggestions and comments and Tomas was onto straight away. There's so much to do in this little piece of the world, you can't fail to find something you'll love. Better to spend longer, so you can really absorb the tranquility.

  • Outstanding is the best words about this place, everything was just perfect, absolutly the best location around Vulcan Arenal!!! Loved everything in the house and the best place we have stayed in our 3 month honeymoon :-). Wish we had some more time and the only bad thing we can say about the house is that you can only be dissapointet the next place on your travel :-D. Pura Vida

  • What a beautiful place! The pictures don't do it justice. Spectacular views, luxurious interior and exterior and our hosts were amazing. Such a gem! We were sad to leave.

    Vicky2016-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing views! We couldnt have asked for a better place to stay. As many have mentioned, the only thing to be aware of is the condition of the town roads and you should have a 4x4 vehicle. However, is it very close to many of the local attractions and a lot of great local food.

Sabura It’s a African expression that means good life , moments of joy and happiness, wich is what we aim to make you enjoy during your stay with us. In casa Sabura, we wish to give our guests a true costa rican living experience, where all your worries get left behind, time stops and the Sabura can be enjoyed. Casa Sabura is an charming balinese style house decorated with recycled and hand crafted furniture from Africa, Asia and Costa Rica. Situated just a few steps from the wonderful Avellanas Beach (1 min driving-10 min walking). This 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house features a private pool, a wrap around deck and outdoor lounging areas with BBQ. Casa Sabura is custom built with floor to ceiling windows all around the house. There are 2 large bedrooms upstairs, 1 bedroom downstairs, each with a sliding door out to the wraparound porch, split-level A/C units, and queen/king size beds. The property is full of beautiful trees and plants. The wildlife is simply wonderful. Enjoy your morning coffee while the monkeys climb from tree to tree and the parrots fly overhead. Avellanas Beach has great waves for surfers of all types. From the reef in front of the parking lot to the miles of beach breaks and even all the way down to the Avellanas Rivermouth. Any level of surfer can find what they are looking for in Avellanas. Also one of the most famous restaurants in Costa Rica, Lola's sits right on the beach at the end of the road. The closest beaches around are Playa Negra and Junquillal. Tamarindo is located 25min driving from the house, which the most touristy place around with nightlife, shops, restaurants, supermarkets etc.
  • Casa Sabura was is an amazing place to stay. Just as described in the photos, great for our family of 4 (two adults and two kids). The kitchen is stocked with everything you might need, AC works well (especially in the bedrooms and you WILL need it in the non-rainy season-- it gets HOT outside!), pool is refreshing and the hosts were more than accommodating. Quick and easy ride to get to the best beach around (Playa Avellanos), plus a 25 minute drive to Tamarindo for supermarket, tourist spots, and lots of restaurants. Would highly recommend! Thank you Andre and Rita!

    Abby 2016-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for an authentic Costa Rica beach/jungle/rain forest experience you can have it at Casa Sabura. The house itself is beautiful with fantastic architecture, floor to ceiling windows, beautiful hardwood throughout and a rustic authentic charm. There is a very nice outdoor dining area and shaded pool. The location is great for a quiet or beach vacation. There is very little 'people' noise as it is in the rain forest. Great for hearing howler monkeys and birds throughout the day. It's a short drive or 15 minute walk to the closest beach - Playa Avellanas, a 10 minute drive to my favourite beach, Playa Negra and a 25 minute drive to Tamerindo. We did have a few problems with the water and plumbing for the first few days but Andre was very eager to help us. Andre responded very quickly to all of our needs and even went out of his way to make the stay more comfortable for youngest daughter. We stayed at the house for two weeks which included both of our daughters birthdays. We hired Andre and Rita to host a birthday party for us. Andre is a chef and the dinner was absolutely fantastic. Rita is an amazing photographer. My husband and I were speechless when we saw the photos. This is one of the highlights of our trip. I HIGHLY recommend the dinner and photography package. Some recommendations: A car would probably be needed and the roads are very rough(URL HIDDEN)for sure. Bring beach towels and blankets. Although Lola's has the best reviews in the area the Beach Box was our absolute favourite! We had tacos at 7 different restaurants throughout our stay and kept going back to the Beach Box, they had the best tacos & nacho chips (and the best prices). There are several restaurants within walking/short drive distance. Casa Subara & Avellanas provided a unique, authentic experience that we were looking for. Quiet, private, peaceful, and safe.

  • Wonderful stay and beautiful house! This house in the middle of the costa rican rainforest may be just what you need for your next vacation, it is peaceful, quiet, and relaxing. The kitchen was fully equipped, the bathrooms were nice and clean, comfortable bedrooms and nice pool. If you're visiting, keep in mind that the house is literally in the middle of a dirt road, surrounded by thick vegetation, so expect visits from the friendly neighbors--the bugs! We didn't encounter with any dangerous ones, only moths, beetles, and TONS of centipedes, but they were a nice sight and didn't get much in our way. The roads to get to the house can get lousy in the rainy season, it would be best if you could get your hands on a 4x4! Finally, this is house is one of the listings closest to the beach, which makes it easy for you to go down there as often as you'd like.

    Nana2016-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • The house is beautiful, spacious, light (apart from the lower part that is a little dark) and pleasant. We stayed there very comfortably to 6 (4 adults and 2 children). It is very well located 2 minutes from the beach of Avellanas, lovely quiet beach and only 20 minutes from Tamarindo. The house is very well situated for surfers, near several surf spots. The managers of the house are very friendly and available.

  • When we arrived in Avellana we got to the beach while we were waiting for Andre, the host. The place was peaceful, clean and not too crowded, just what we were looking for. After a first look we got to the house, which is just 3 minuts driving from the beach and not on the main road (which is dusty from the cars that drive through). Andre was waiting for us and he walked us around the house for a quick tour. He explayned us the basic roules and was always available when we required assistance during our stay. The house looked exactly like the pictures on the internet and so the descripions about the facilities were precise and alike. The house is really good for families with children because it has an open space downstairs close to the beautiful swimming pool. That was our dining room for the whole vacation and we could always have an eye on the children in the pool and even jump in after lunch or dinner. The rooms were roomy and confortable with two bathrooms (one downstairs close to the third room). Also the kitchen was well furnished and wery big, an important confort for families. The last evening we took advantage of the service of chef at home which Andre and his wife Rita proposed. We selected a menu and the guys came at the house and served us a grest dinner with high standard food!!! Moreover we got the house set fot the evening with decorations and a beautiful dining table.

  • We stayed 4 nights in Andre & Rita's villa. It's an amazing place, close to the beach and Lola's (pizza margarita, ceviche, mmm!). We really loved the swimming pool and hammock area. Sometimes the howler monkeys paid us a visit and we saw lots of birds! The kitchen has everything you need and the beds are super comfy. Unfortunately we didn't meet the hosts but Fabrice took over and did a good job, he responded quickly to our questions. The first day of our stay Andre & Rita even send us a message to ask everything was ok. Would stay here again!

  • Nice stay, couple nights but could easily stay longer. Nice house, comfortable rooms and kitchen with all needed gear. Close to the beach. Great view of trees and native monkeys! Pool needed some cleaning but was great for a swim after the beach. Front gate door has a tricky key, so make sure you get it right

  • Sabura house is a dream house, with a lovely energy that inspire any dreamer. The decoration is the expression of a "criativity " with a lot of beautiful details. We had a pleseant and wonderfull days, like, wake up with a brightness between the trees and also a beautiful sound by the birds giving us a very good feeling, every mornings! The house is very well located, near the best and beautiful beaches in Avellanas. André e Rita are a a truly hosts. Andrés made two magnific creative dinners with a special flavours ,and Rita made a photographic session during our stay, where the happy moments were memorized, like Sabura spirit (URL HIDDEN) was amazing and unforgettable stay! For sure, we'll definitively returned and we will recomended to all guys. Pura vida ..... Carrega Mário !!!
