Best things to do in Coromandel

Beach
“There is no longer car park access at the entrance to the track but you have the option of either taking a shuttle up from Hahei beach, walking up or taking a water taxi. There are also a variety of boat and kayak tours if you want to approach this magical place by water. Its really the highlight of the Coromandel, with its pristine white sand beaches and majestic white stone sculptures and caves - including the magnificent 'cathedral' cave. Try to go before 10 in the morning or after 5 in the afternoon to experience the beauty of the beach without having to share it with too many other people! ”

“Probably the best cafe in the Coromandel. It is approximately a 45 minute drive from Ruffins Bay, however you get some nice views along the way and can stop at one of the many beaches for a swim. ”

“Closed after Easter for a few weeks - best check if they are open before making the walk. Great breakfast lunch and coffee. And freshly baked Ciabbatta when I am early enough there to grab a loaf to take home. Truly quirky surroundings in gorgeous 'next door' Flaxmill Bay on the way to Ferry Landing.”

“Originally buit by Barry Brickell to get clay to his potteries and wood to fire the kilns, Driving Creek Railway and Potteries is "New Zealand’s only narrow-gauge mountain railway and travels through regenerating native forest with pottery sculptures lining the track." “Delicious choices, relax inside by the Fire in the winter period or outside on the deck and enjoy the water views whilst enjoying a glass or two. Recommend the Seafood Chowder but other selections of sea food equally as good. ”

“One of the most relaxing al fresco dining spots in the world. Micro brewery on site, great pub food and lots of lovely shaded talbes in the garden. All within walking distance of the beach and the Cathedral Cove shuttle parking area. ”

“Awesome truly Italian pizza while looking over the view? Priceless. You can even walk there from your accommodation. We will leave you a hand drawn map, or we can explain the path to you. Abel the labrador will try to eat your food, but he is not allowed inside the restaurant so do not fret. Best views and wine this side of anywhere.”

Beach
“Beautiful undeveloped beach surrounded by dense native bush. Walk across the stream at the west end of Whangapoua Beach and follow the coast to the marked path over the headland to New Chums. The Whangapoua side is stony and can be hard going but it is totally worth it.”

“a 45 minute walk from Whangapoua beach. Cross a stream, walking shoes on again for a stont beach for 10 minutes , the 20 minute walk through the bush to New Chums. wonderful spot. Whangapoua beach is 30 minutes drive from coromandel town and beautiful on it's own if you just want to swim there. These are on the east side of the peninsula so a surf beaches”

Tapas Restaurant

“World class fine dining right in our neighbourhood! Many people think this is an exaggeration until they go and see for themselves. Opening days vary throughout the seasons, so be sure to check current days and hours. Bookings can be essential, especially on weekends and peak local holiday times. In addition to a brilliant fine dining tapas menu, we can highly recommend the cocktails. ”
