Situated on a quiet country road between the historic villages of Cong and Clonbur and the world renowned lakes of Corrib and Mask the barn provides an ideal base for anyone wishing to explore the many delights of the Connemara region. Within minutes of the Barn are the historic villages of Cong and Clonbur. Cong boasts may tourist attractions including Ashford Castle and Cong Abbey and was the filming location for John Ford's 1952 Oscar-winning film, The Quiet Man, featuring John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara and Barry Fitzgerald. Much of the movie was filmed on the grounds of Ashford Castle. The town and castle area has changed very little since 1952, and Cong's connection with the movie makes it a tourist attraction. The surrounding area is a walker’s paradise with many tracks and trails through woods, over mountains and along the lakes shores. We have 2 mountain bikes available to hire if cycling is more your thing. Lough Corrib and Lough Mask are considered among the elite wild brown trout lakes in Europe with Corrib also providing some exciting Salmon fishing. Philip the owner is an experienced gillie and fishing on both lakes can be arranged. Activities locally include: Fishing/Walking/Cycling/Corrib Cruise/Golf/Pony Trekking/Falconry Cong and Clonbur: 3kms Shops/Pubs/Restaurants: 3kms
  • Great little hideaway. Beds were so comfortable as were the pillows. The kids are super cute!

  • Philip, Patricia, their kids and their dogs were perfect hosts. The stone barn is very well equipped and comfortable. During the winter the fire place is heating up the space and Philip is there to assist, whenever needed. The sorroundings are beautiful, especially to explore Connemara. Cong is 5 kilometers Away and welcomes you with nice Cafés.

  • My stay in Julie’s accommodation was fantastic. It had everything we needed during our stay and even more. Extremely clean and well designed. Julie is a friendly person and communicated very well. Her attention to detail in the apartment was great. Would defiantly want to go back to this accommodation as it was very relaxing to stay in!

    Karen2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Julie is a great host, who made our stay super comfortable. The place is very stylish, cozy and warm (which is especially important in winter) and has everything you need and even more. 200% positive experience.

    Sergey2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely apartment and Julie was a great host. Super location in beautiful Cong. Hope to return in the future

    Gillian2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • This is the nicest Air bnb we have stayed in. Julie is a lovely, gracious host and has created a very special haven for visitors to Cong. The loft is beautifully decorated with many thoughtful touches from bathrobes to slippers, luxurious bed linen and fluffy large towels. We were welcomed with a complimentary bottle of wine and other treats. Truly a five star experience. The location is perfect, don’t miss having a croissant and coffee at Butler & Byrne, and a delicious meal at Lydons. Thank you Julie for a wonderful experience, we hope to be back!

    Tamsin2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • I have only one concern regarding the space; which is the horribly sad possibility that it will be booked the next time I visit the area. I can’t say enough good things about the loft, the hostess and my lovely experience staying there. I consider anyone with a reservation to stay in the loft truly lucky and in for such a treat. Places and hostesses such as these are what make the unfortunate bad actors and homes of Airbnb worth putting up with. I honestly thought I would regret opting out of the glamorous Ashford Castle, but it ended up being one of the best decisions I made during my trip. This is such a true gem of an Airbnb that I would actually plan my next trip’s dates around the availability of the listing. I cannot recommend it highly enough and suggest to anyone and everyone to stay for several days if possible as there are so many places in Mayo, Galway and Connemara one can easily make day trips to.

    Brigid2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • We love Cong and visit at least once a year. This is our first time using AirBnB for our stay here though and we were not disappointed. This is a lovely flat in a fantastic location. We loved staying here and would definitely recommend to others.

    Ben2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had an excellent two night stay. Apartment was easy to find and easy to access. Smack in the middle of Cong, next to the Abbey and Forest. Julie was very accessible through texts and I can absolutely recommend this apartment.

    Abby2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • 5 *** Stunning accommodation in an artisan village. Julie provided absolutely everything you could possibly imagine in a stylish, intimate setting. I’m sure the bedrooms are as well equipped as those in Ashford Castle - gorgeous quality towels / robes & super comfy beds. It was an extra treat to have Netflix and lounge on the couch on wet evenings. All enhanced by soft lighting and an efficient heating system. We stayed for 7 nights and were sad to leave. The apartment is directly situated over a wonderful cafe, stocked with Irish produce and freshly baked breads. Julie recommended Lydon’s pub which serves excellent meals, it’s about 2 mins walk away. Great chat with the local butcher who also provides cooked meals and stocks organic fare including the best carrots ever. CONG is an interesting village which includes an Abbey and fabulous walks for all levels. Although the location is ideal for visiting Kylemore Abbey and other tourist attractions, you might just prefer to hang around the area and chill in this beautiful apartment.

  • Easy check-in, great advanced communication. The cottage is so cozy with everything one could need at hand. All the cooking essentials and the tools for a lovely fire were readily available. Some lovely personal touches in the cottage too. We had the pleasure of meeting Brenda and Bobby and they could not have been any friendlier or more helpful. I will be highly recommending this place and hope to visit again.

  • Clean and comfortable accommodation in the middle of the vilage and close to shops and restaurants. Local taxi service was very useful in getting us to/from our function at The Lodge, Ashford castle.

    Breda2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • The location was great! Was extremely clean, comfortable and cozy. Upon check in Susan walked us through everything and provided tips for eating and attractions. Such a nice touch of having a snack for the evening and eggs, milk and bread to get us started in the morning. Robert gave us a route to one of our destinations that was absolutely wonderful. He also told us about a few places that were not on our ‘list’ but so glad we took his advice and went. Highly recommend staying here!

  • Convenient little hostel. Only stayed here one night and ended up getting the room to myself since it was off season. I didn’t realize that they had a bnb also across the road, which I definitely would’ve rather stayed in (I love bnbs). Gerry and Margaret were really kind and welcoming. I didn’t realize I had breakfast included until the next morning when I went to check out, so it was a nice surprise.

  • Marie's place was a perfect location for our trip to Cong and the surrounding areas. She was prompt with communication, and we found her ammenities to be most helpful in making our stay in Cong comfortable and enjoyable. I would gladly come and stay again, and highly reccomend her place to anyone.

  • Just home from a lovely two night stay in Mayfly Cottage. A very comfortable home with all you will need for your stay. Very comfortable beds and lovely clean accessible shower. Double bedroom, twin bedroom and single bedroom. Would most certainly return to this lovely home.

  • Good location in a very pretty little town worth a visit! Marie is very responsive and we left a lot of attention to our arrival :-)

    Nadine2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I stayed at Marie's for a few days and we loved it. The house is comfortable and full of little things she left there for us, like tea and coffee, shampoo and some other food. The house is like a 10 minute walk from Cong and the path is lovely, and the town is too, so if you want to stay in a cute Irish town I highly recommend going there. Also, the place is like one hour/one and a half hours driving from a lot of other nice places, like Galway or the Kylemore Abbey, so if you want to visit West Ireland this house it's a nice option for doing that!

    Clara2019-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful space. The cottage is clean, comfortable, and only a short walk into town. It was a perfect choice for my family.

    Robin2019-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Marie's place was amazing - we had a wedding in the Lodge and the location was just perfect for a family of 5 - Marie had left coffee and fruit and the all important milk for the tea along with an array of toiletries for anything that had been forgotten - we couldn't recommend Mayfly Lodge more highly and hope to get back again soon

  • Wow! I can’t say enough about this place! Thoughtful touches and details everywhere. Susan was so accommodating for check-in and showed us everything to make sure we had everything we needed. The cottage the coziest place we’ve ever stayed. Comfortable, a small desk so I was able to still work while on holidays, right in the heart of the village and so close to everything. Across the street from the abbey and the John Wayne/ Maureen O’Hara Quiet Man statue. They really do think of everything, like scones, butter and jam on the table when we arrived, coffee and tea and milk in the fridge. We spent a day or two where we never even left the cottage. And the price point was fantastic! Thank you Susan and Robert!

Exceptionally comfortable and well-equipped house, with plenty to entertain families, including pool table, table tennis table, dartboard and grand piano, as well as a good selection of board games and Sky multi-room tv. Set in beautiful countryside and close to many great tourist attractions, including the world-renowned Ashford Castle.
To see reviews, visit the house's page on TripAdvisor! http://bit.ly/16FUQd5 Very comfortable, luxurious house close to scenic Cong village, location of the film The Quiet Man, featuring John Wayne. The house can comfortably accomodate 8-9 people: it has 2 ensuite double bedrooms, 1 ensuite twin room, and 1 single room, and additionally a games room with double sofa bed and luxurious ensuite bathrom. The kitchen is extremely well equipped - the owner is an enthusiastic cook - with a 4-ring hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, and wide variety of kitchen tools and plenty of crockery. Wide range of entertainments in the house, including baby grand piano, pool table and board games, as well as table tennis and dartboard (in the garage), hi-speed broadband access, full Sky+ multiroom package etc, making it ideal for families, including those with teenagers. Close to fantastic fishing, golf, walking, riding, boating and a number of excellent restaurants and friendly pubs. Additionally, very close by is Ashford Castle, a five-star hotel whose beautiful grounds and lake are open to the public, as are its two excellent restaurants, one formal and one casual. The hotel was recently featured in the TV series Amazing Hotels. The house has been equipped for use by the owners as their regular holiday home, so has standards of comfort and equipment well above those of the average holiday rental.
Cong is a beautiful village, famous for its 12th century abbey, the lavish gold and silver processional Cross of Cong from 1123, and the magnificent Ashford Castle, The village has links with Oscar Wilde, whose parents lived nearby, and, most popularly, was the location for the filming of the John Wayne classic movie, The Quiet Man. Tours of the film locations are available. For the fishing enthusiast, the village is situated on beautiful Lough Corrib (see link for details of fishing http://www.fishinginireland.info/trout/west/corrib.htm) and close to Lough Mask http://www.fishinginireland.info/trout/west/mask.htm and it is easy to arrange boat hire and a fishing guide. For golfers, there is a fabulous 18-hole course at Ballinrobe (http://www.ballinrobegolfclub.com/) as well as a 9-hole course practically next door, at Ashford Castle. Some of Ireland's most beautiful links courses are situated in Connemara, about an hour's drive away. Connemara also offers beautiful beaches, wonderful walks and amazing scenery. A visit to the Aran Islands, by ferry or air, makes a fantastic day out, with bicycles available for hire for touring the island.
  • My family and I had a fantastic stay while we where here! There was lots for us to do in the house like board games and the pool table etc. It’s a short walk from Ashford castle so the location is great!

  • When out in the country in Ireland, you want to be in a beautiful thatched roof house! This is it! House is very big, enough space for 6 adults, comfy beds and a well stocked kitchen! Perfect to cook in! Couches are super comfy and was nice to have a coffee in the morning and look out into the field. Was very nice to just relax and chill out. There is a bigger town with an Aldi and Tesco just about 10 mins up the road. We would definitely stay here again.

  • Lovely, large home in a good location. Loved all the extras - ping pong table, piano etc. And loved all the en-suite bathrooms. Welcoming and responsive host. Perfect for us for visiting family and sight-seeing.

Town house in the centre of Ballinrobe, with private parking and close to all amenities. This is the ideal location to base yourself if you intend touring in the West of Ireland-from Connemara to Killala, from Ballintubber to Balla. It is also near the Wild Atlantic Way, and the Greenway. You will get a great welcome and you will have free access to the sitting room to relax and to the kitchen should you want to cook. I will suggest scenic routes to take to tour or cultural events happening.
The house is centrally located in the town-just across from Flannery's Tavern. It is surrounded by other take out and sit-in restaurants and shops. Cong, with its famous Abbey and Ashford Castle, is 10k away and is a great spot for lovely wooded walks. Knock Airport is about 70km away.
A quiet area, though located right in this historic town, you will be able to walk all around the town. Ballinrobe is a small town, with loads of sites of interest-the old Workhouse, the Military Barracks, a number of mills, a lovely river walk called The Bowers, many sports grounds and a Leisure Centre. Children usually love the great playground in the Green. Ballinrobe is near the Gaeltacht areas of Tourmakeady and Cornamóna, providing it with a rich cultural flavour.

We had very nice talks and she even gave us a lift to a gorgeous place not too far from her home. We will miss staying with her and hope to come back.

  • This is a wonderful space and outstanding location but all of this is capped by a most wonderful host who will put you at your ease right away. Sara is fantastic, very warm. Thoughtful & welcoming. The house is beautifully maintained and spotlessly clean. This was a special stay. I can’t wait to return.

    FeeneyMatt2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Sara is a very welcoming person, her house is perfect, we could cook without problem. Sara had booked us a shelf in her fridge and another in her closet. She did everything to make us feel comfortable on vacation. She even shared with us her birthday cake. Even if she does not speak French and we do not English, we managed to exchange with help google translation and a notebook and pencil. Sara will remain for us the best host we have had in Ireland (out of 5).

  • The view, the lake, the countryside, the quietness... wonderful place for holidays! Lila was really kind with us: she let us everything for our first breakfast, put the heater on, let us some wood for a fire... good beds, very comfortable duvets, silence: we had really good nights!! Thanks Lila, we will remember for a long time this wonderful view on the lake on early morning...

  • The house is warm and the location completely "amazing" as the English speakers say. It feels soothed and relaxed !!

    Jessica2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous location next to the lighthouse with great views onto the lake. Lila was always available for questions and gave us a warm personal welcome with valuable tips on holiday activities. Ideal for families with adventurous kids, who don't need a city in walking distance.

    Stefan2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • I've traveled all over the world and this was one of the most serene, beautiful places I've ever been. There was Lough Corrib, more like a sea than a lake, just out the front wall-sized window, sometimes ferocious, sometimes calm. Every now and then a small fishing boat passed by. When the wind wasn't high, you could sit in the Adirondack chairs on the front lawn and read or stare at the mountains in the distance. The little lighthouse anchored it all. Inside, the house is simple but comfortable. The wood-burning stove is a nice touch. It's a bit of a drive from anywhere, but that's part of the charm. Lila was always easy to reach. In short, our stay here helped us love Ireland.

    Mary2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • The boat house is in a beautiful, peaceful setting, over looking Lough Corrib and the lighthouse. Perfect for exploring Connemara National Park, Kylemore Gardens, Galway and Cong. It was lovely to meet Lila and I really appreciated the emergency non-feather duvet! The soda bread was delicious and we’re now hooked!

    Zarnie2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the lake and nature! Fire place and fully equipped kitchen with plenty of room for the three of us.

    Jennifer2019-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • The view of the lake is absolutely stunning as well as the lighthouse out the main bedroom window. The house is nice and spacious and the kitchen has everything one needs.

There are many resources and activities adjacent to the village including golf, fishing, pony trekking, archery, lake cruises, bike rental, scenic walks and historic buildings.
  • A great house, perfect for our big group. Location couldn't be better and the place was really clean. Anne even left us a loaf of brown bread which was such a lovely touch! We really enjoyed our stay.

    Sarah2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second visit to Anne & Hugh's home in Cong. Additional family members joined us this visit & they were very impressed with the immaculate accommodations! There was a total of 6 in our group & still we had plenty of space to be comfortable with room to spare. This beautiful property is very private, yet within a few minutes walk of Cong village. Most days of our visit were spent visiting family in the area along with a few "side trips" to tourist areas, but this home was a warm & welcome retreat at the end of each day. We've only returned home less than a week ago & we're already discussing our next visit to Ireland. We will plan our trip around the availability of this home as we can't imagine staying anywhere else! Anne & Hugh - thank you for welcoming us again! We are so grateful!

    Nathan2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Our second stay and equally happy. Lovely house in great location. Thank you for the home made bread too

    Paul2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • A nice quiet cottage on the edge of a river, near a beautiful village with amenities. Anne and Hugh are pleasant and helpful hosts. The house is well equipped. A good starting point for visiting Conemara, Mayo, and North Kerry. To recommend

    Fabrice2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Anne's place is huge, much bigger than it appears in the photos. There is a big kitchen, a large, comfy "family room", a kids' rooms with drum set, and "vintage" room with a fireplace. It reminded us of an old-styler parlor. The hallways were very spacious. Upstairs there were large, cheerfully decorated bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. All the floors upstairs were hardwood. There was plenty of room for everyone: four adults and two children along with two visitors who came for a couple of days. Every amenity you can think of was provided. . The outdoor area was in three sections which we did not realize. The bridges over the fast moving stream were a little rickety but the children loved them. The adults were a little nervous! The grassy area near the bridge was a lovely space to draw and hang out, but couldn't be seen from the house. We would definitely recommend Anne's house and would stay again in the future.

    Louise2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent for family or large groups. Lots of room to spread out, every bedroom has it's own bathroom, and the grounds are amazingly private and beautiful. Go ahead, book it now!

    Yram2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was a wonderful home base for our family group of 7. The house is very comfortable and in such a great location. The old mill and dry canal and walking paths make all so enjoyable. There is so much in walking distance: several castles, the abbey, stone circles, the caves, nature trails. It is also a great location for exploring much of Western Ireland. It is a really wonderful base for a holiday.

    John2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Anne's house in Cong. It's an easy, 5-minute walk to the quaint village (accessed by the driveway and a safe sidewalk) . Our party of 10 found it incredibly convenient to be able to leave our 3 cars in the driveway and walk to the village to see some sites or go to a pub. We lucked out with amazing weather so we took full advantage of the boogie boards, kayaks, life jackets and variously-sized wetsuits, and went for a dip in the river. Our 11 and 13 year old nephews particularly loved riding the rushing waters of the Cong River. (I had to be extra-careful with my 5 and 7 year old kids to make sure they were safe near the strong currents.) The property is spacious and beautiful and the home was immaculately clean and well-equipped with everything we needed to prepare a few meals at home. We appreciated the homemade loaf of bread and other niceties. I would unreservedly recommend the property to others!

  • Nuala was very accommodating. We asked for an early check-in which she facilitated and turned the heating on for us at this earlier time. The room was spacious and clean. It's a lovely house in a nice quiet area near Ballinrobe and walking distance to a picturesque lake.

  • I recommend this place to ANYONE WHO IS STAYING near Galway.!! Innitially my boyfriend and I were going to just pass by Galway and go straight to Northern Ireland but our hotel there LAST MINUTE said that we could not check in late! (with super rude manners may I add) We were basically without a place to stay in the freezing cold and driving around in thick fog! Thank gosh for Nuala and her beautiful home near the city! The place was cozy, clean and super accommidating. Thank you for much Nuala for saving our butts and answering on such late notice on a late winter night! She was so quick to respond and the check in process was so easy. Again, I reccomend this place to anyone who is passing by Galway and wants to experience a true AirBNB superhost. Truly lives up to it. <3 Love Viv & Ken

  • Absolutely a perfect getaway! Quiet, hidden from the road and so peaceful. Our stay was in the apartment which seems to be very new. Internet is spotty as is cell service, one trade off of the rural setting. Amazed to wake up to cows & sheep out our bedroom window! Be sure to bring coffee, tea, sugar, shampoo, soap and euro coins (for the electric meter). None were provided. Central location for all sights on the wild Atlantic West!

  • The location is unbeatable! The house overlooks Lough Corrib, and on the property there is a beautiful trail along the lake shore. I highly recommend staying here, and we will most certainly be back. We stayed with 2 young toddlers, and the space was very family friendly. Rhona was also kind enough to provide a port-a-crib and a high chair for our youngest child. Her guest book dates back to 2002, so she clearly had loads of experience hosting guests. Thanks Rhona!

  • This is a wonderful Airbnb, a true home away from home. Everything we needed was available to us, and we even got lovely homemade scones from the hostess Annette. We were attending a wedding at the nearby Ashford Lodge, so it suited perfectly in terms of distance - however we loved the serenity of the place so much and the uniqueness of the stay that we would definitely return for a longer summer vacation. Thank you for a wonderful stay, i wish all Airbnbs were like this one.

    Emer2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed at Annette’s place for a weekend while attending at Ashford Castle! Spotless apartment and lovely little touches to the apartment! Annette was so helpful and couldn’t have done enough for us! Loved our stay!

    Laura2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a delightful place to stay. On the quay, only a couple of stones throws from Ashmore Lodge - perfect, if like us you are going to a wedding there. The place itself is unique and has a lot to offer; it’s spacious, but cosy. We would have loved to have stayed longer and enjoyed Loch We’ll be back. Someone else has complained about the lack of hot water, but we certainly didn’t have that problem, lashings of quick hot water - they probably didn’t notice that there’s a switch for the sink and the bathroom.

    Fiona2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute place! It's comfortable, charming and had everything we were looking for. Highly recommend Annette's place!

    Donna2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • The mill is a beautiful place at the end of the world! The view of the harbor, the small veranda delighted us. The comfort level the decor, the calm everything is there to spend warm moments, we stayed 2 days, it's too short!

    Laurent2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is located 15 feet from the harbour at Lough Corrib. Magnificent location. Beautifully appointed. Tastefully decorated. Spotlessly clean. Comfortable. My daughter loved her bedroom overlooking the front room. Bathrooms new and clean. Near the Lodge at Ashford Castle so drinks and meals a short walk away so no need to drive. Well located for Galway, Connemara and Mayo. Loved every minute and Annette contacted me while on holiday in Europe herself so hospitality also truly outstanding. Will definitely stay again. The best place I’ve ever seen on Airbnb. Thanks Annette, loved it, thank you

    Justin2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Air bnb at the top! Photos conform to the announcement, we were very well received by the host. Indeed we arrived rather late and she had the foresight to leave us something to nibble for the evening. Adorable! Ideal for 2 couples or a family. The location of the air bnb is top even if a little hard to find on the spot. The view of the harbor is superb and the place is ideally located not far from Ashford Castle! I can only recommend it to be quiet and out of place.

  • We absolutely loved our break away. Fabulous view whilst dining outside even when the weather was bad it was still fabulous from the window view. The house is a great size and so clean. The extra touches were unique in the property especially the home cooked tart on our arrival. Aoife went out of her way to get me a number for bike hire for the kids and explain activities we were interested in also. We will hopefully be returning in the coming future. I highly recommend this house for family breaks. Many thanks aoife

There’s an ancient lighthouse to explore nearby and a castle ruin on the property that are both excellent for pictures! Gabrielle gave a great suggestion for dinner at the Anglers Rest. Just absolutely beautiful setting! Thanks for hosting us.

  • Incredible space - no wifi, so it forces us to go outside, play games, sit by the fire and chat. Cong is gorgeous, Phillip is a great host and there is plenty of room in the charming old stone house. We loved it!

    Emily2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • This unit is in a great location - right in the center of Cong. Plenty of space for all 8 adults. Phillip was excellent communicating with us prior, during and after our trip! The unit can use a little updating - kitchen and bathrooms especially. Town of Cong is small but fun and lively - good point to do some day trips!

    Alicia2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • The Stone house has so much character, the village of Cong is so beautiful and we had the best time in the pubs at night. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to end our trip to Ireland

  • Fabulous property in an amazing location with all the beautiful sites of Cong & surrounds on your doorstep. Patricia and Philip are really fantastic hosts. Our family of 8 also consisted of 2 small children who were happy to make use of the toy box provided :) We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back. Linda

Here you’ll find music and craic, a few words in the native Irish tongue, and memories to bring home with you. Another place of unique beauty is Lough Coolin, a small lake set like a glittering gem in the foothills of Mount Gable, just 3 miles from Clonbur. For the more adventurous, Mount Gable is an easy climb of about one hour’s duration. Whatever your taste you are sure to be impressed with this stunning area and long to return to year after year.
  • Clonbur House is an attractive building in a great location - very convenient for the pubs, restaurants and shop, with plenty of free parking. The apartment is fresh, modern, clean and cosy inside- especially with the wood stove burning on a cold windy night. Hugh was flexible with our check-in, we gave him a call when we arrived and he was there to welcome us within minutes. Clonbur is a very friendly village with access to beautiful countryside right on the doorstep. We had a fantastic week in early March and would highly recommend Clonbur House as a base for exploring this part of Ireland.

  • A well renovated and well located studio to discover Connemara and Joyce's Country. Close to the apartment, the Burke 's pub offers very authentic music evenings on Wednesday and Friday nights. One downside: the sound insulation of the apartment.

  • Hugh is a lovely guy very helpful and available. The place is very well located in clonbur and also to discover Connemara region

Ballycurrin House is located in the grounds of the 12th century Ballycurrin Castle. This fine Georgian House is on the shores of Lough Corrib, set in four acres of beautiful woodland and gardens. The lake and Ireland's only onshore lighthouse is less than a minute walk from the house. It is possible to rent the whole house, if interested please see the separate listing on Airbnb.
Ballycurrin House is located on the shores of Lough Corrib a few minutes drive from Headford, Co Galway. This Georgian property dates from the 1760's and was built on the grounds of the 12th century Ballycurrin Castle. The ruin of the castle is just behind the house. Ballycurrin was extensively restored and renovated a few years ago. It's a two story over basement house. The large and well equipped kitchen is in the basement. On the 1st floor is the the impressive hallway with access to the dining and living rooms. On the 2nd floor are three bedrooms, all ensuite. The very large master bedroom has views of Lough Corrib. Both the double and twin rooms have ensuite bathrooms. There is plenty of space for parking and there are lots of green spaces to sit out and enjoy the view in the peaceful surroundings of the Galway countryside. There is plenty to do and see here. Ireland's only onshore lighthouse, Ballycurrin Lighthouse, is a few meters walk from the house and swimming is possible in the lake. The historic town of Cong is 20 minutes drive away and the very famous Ashford Castle is nearby. Ballycurrin House is a wonderful place to base your holiday as Connemara is easily visited by car as is Co Mayo. Fishing is possible at Lough Corrib and there are boats to rent if you so wish.
Headford is a typical small Irish market town with a number of shops, cafes and pubs where food is served. Ashford Castle is nearby. There is a supermarket in the town and a mart if you fancy checking out the buying and selling of cattle/sheep. Galway City is 20-30 minutes away (depending on traffic) and is easily accessible from Headford. Lough Corrib is well-renowned for fishing and there is also golfing and horseriding nearby. The famous annual Galway Races are held in July and the racecourse is approximately a 20 minute drive away.

It is so spacious inside with 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms which was great for our group. There is plenty of parking and space for kids to play outside, along with friendly donkeys in the adjoining field. Communication with Michelle was excellent before and during our stay. I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a place to escape, and will certainly be booking it again soon.

Definitely add this wonderful cottage to the top of your Cong list! We had a family gathering of 6 adults and two toddlers. Michele asked if she could add anything into the cottage to help make our stay more enjoyable. Excellent and prompt communication. There were two little Shetland ponies and one donkey in a field out the back of the cottage and the kids loved looking out at them. Would definitely stay here again, all 6 adults loved the weekend. Thanks Michele!
