  • A fantastic retreat! We loved the lodge and wood fired hot tub, perfect for when the hail started coming down! Lovely walks nearby and a small and friendly community. Lodge is very well equipped with plenty of cooking equipment , Sky tv and local tips. Great view from the master bedroom over Loch Awe, perfect place to unwind and enjoy.

  • Leave those smart gadgets at home and relax in superb natural surroundings with the beautiful loch Awe gentle waves swilling on the beach a few yards away, sit in the beautiful authentic hot tub watching the beautiful clear night skies, very romantic location or family hub to go and explore!

  • We had a fabulous pre Christmas break at Lochside. The lodge was even better than I hoped. I had worried that we might be overdoing it with 6 plus a dog but it is deceptively spacious and very well equipped. I had no problem cooking a Christmas dinner here. The location is stunning and we spent many hours in the hot tub overlooking the loch even when it snowed on us! Well worth the 7 hours drive

  • Wonderful cabin right on the loch. The hot tub was fab and natural stone fire pit fantastic. The views from the upstairs bedroom were breath taking to wake up to every morning. Enjoyed every minute of our stay and cant wait to go back. Well worth the 9 hour journey from london! The locals were friendly, in the villiage shop/cafe and community bar. The food was great too. Not one single complaint! Could not have had a more peaceful fabulous holiday.

  • This is a very comfortable get away from it all log cabin. The setting is wonderful right on the side of wonderful Loch Awe with rolling hills backdrop. The hot tub is wonderful a true treat. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked with utensils. the owner left thoughtful extras midge spray, tips on how to stop them attacking. shelve full of books and games. it was sparkling clean and we felt at home straight away. The road to it is long and narrow (not that it bothered us) but it is well worth it.

  • The cabin is situated in a lovely and quiet area, the perfect spot for a calm and relaxing trip as the neighbourhood is secluded and private. Yet, you're still close enough to other cabins so you dont feel completely separated from other people. The replies were very quick and helpful which was very much appreciated as this was our first booking through Airbnb!!

  • Great place for a relaxing get away. Close to the waterside, good amenities with the local shop and fab community ran bar for a few jar after a nice long walk along the Loch side. I’d definitely return.

  • Serenity, natural beauty of surrounding landscape and views of the Loch. A very quiet and peaceful spot. Hot tub was great once we got it going. BBQ hut is a fantastic wee gem and a great space out of the cold.

  • A fantastic stay in a beautiful setting in a cosy and we'll equipped lodge! The lodge is quite remote as the site is about half an hour along a single track road but there is a small village with post office and a bar about a ten minute walk away. The lodge was fantastic literally a stone's throw away from the loch and so peaceful and relaxing couldn't hear one bit of road or engine noise just perfect. The sky and WiFi worked great and I had full 4G signal whilst I was there too. The wildlife was great seen a multitude of things including seeing a white tailed eagle fishing in the distance and lots of small birds and ducks. The hot tub was amazing as was the wood burning stove! The sleep was comfortable and the sunrises were out of this world! Couldn't think of a better place to propose to my partner (now fiancée) and will definitely be return visitors!

  • Lovely location for a frosty starlit hot tub retreat. Beautiful loch, with morning mist lifting to slowly reveal the stunning views and a very engaging flock of ducks working the shoreline. When inside, we stayed toasty warm with the wood-stove. Very enjoyable weekend which we topped off with a coffee at the charming Dalavich Village Shop before heading home. Thanks Sonja and Steve!

We look forward to warmly welcoming you to The Byre, a lovely renovated and historic farm cottage nestled in the countryside near the west coast town of Oban. Immerse yourself in the experience of living like a local on this traditional highland farm, run by a Scottish family from one of the ancient highland clans. You have the entire use of the cosy cottage with its exposed roof timbers and original stone walls. Relax, unwind and soak up the beauty in this special, peaceful cottage.
A living space with a fully kitted out kitchen and dining table; a bathroom with shower cubicle, toilet and sink; and two twin bedrooms are all yours to enjoy. Breakfast cereal, jam, marmalade, milk, tea, coffee and fresh farm eggs are provided for you to make your own breakfast. The cottage was once the old byre (barn) for the farm. Now fully renovated, underfloor heating and double glazing ensures you'll have a cosy stay any time of the year.
The cottage is only a short distance from the village of Taynuilt. The village has a pub, restaurant, post office, grocers, butcher, craft shop, hair dresser and tea room. There are lots of nice walks in the area, including directly from the cottage. You can go for a stroll along the edge of a sea loch, a wander through a forest or climb a mountain. There are several open gardens in the area worth a visit, as well as castles, the Cruachan hydro electric visitors centre and the Inverawe Smokery.
  • Just back from 4 nights at the Byre with my wife and 6 month baby. A fantastic chill out week was had, and the place was perfect. Niall and his parents were great hosts and always on hand to help, without being over keen. Niall let us meet the newborn lambs and feed the sheep, and we had a supply of fresh hen and duck eggs for breakfasts in the morning. Definitely looking forward to returning at some point in the future!

    Graeme2020-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • Really great little place. Hope to come back in the future! Even got to hold a baby lamb that was only few days old.

    Alex2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • My daughter and I had had an incredible time af the byre. We helped take care of the animals, even saw baby lambs minutes after they were born. The house was cozy and the town was so beautiful.

    Kristin2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Can’t recommend a stay here enough! It was the last stop on a 2 week Scottish road trip and our favourite stop. Niall and Jim are fantastic people and we loved our opportunity to feed the sheep, goats, ducks and chickens. The Byre is cosy and warm - we only wish we could have stayed longer!

    Georgia2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place for a countryside getaway! The Byre is everything you’d hope for and a little bit more. Set in a beautiful location, the cottage is spacious, spotlessly clean and full of welcoming touches such as books, biscuits and board games. Perfect for a holiday with our toddler who loved meeting the animals! We wouldn’t hesitate to return and hope to do so soon.

    Susan2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Byre is a cozy cottage full of all the mod cons needed to make your stay very comfortable. Spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated, Niall has turned this once black house into a perfect holiday accomodation. The views of Ben Cruachan are tremendous as is the situation on the whole. Niall's father introduced us to the sheep, goats, hens and various ducks on the farm, which was a lovely experience. The Byre is a perfect spot if you enjoy 'The good life'. Highly recommended.

    Dave2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time at Niall's place. From the moment we arrived to feeding the sheep the next morning. We loved the stories about the house, the farm and the sheep. A beautiful place to stay, with beautiful people. We will be back!

    Emmeline2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is one of the best places we have had the pleasure of staying in. The location is ideal for exploring the area and both Niall and his father have some wonderful tips for things to do. Upon arrival, the house was perfectly clean and very cosy and comfortably set up. There were lots of lovely homely touches - which we very much appreciated. The hospitality was superb, we loved learning about the history of the building and being able to experience part of the farm, by feeding the animals, just topped off an already brilliant time. We would whole heartedly recommend Niall's place to anyone, and we are very keen to return.

  • The hot tub was a bit of a faff but was amazing when it heated up! Does require lots of logs so make sure to request about 3 bags per day to cover the fireplace inside and using the hot tub all day. Beautiful area, Loch Awe was visible from the cabin and the space was huge. Kitchen was outstanding and there was all the cleaning equipment provided. loads of gorgeous walks around too with tyre swings and bbq’s! The best lodge I’ve ever visited in Scotland and really hope to be back!

We ate at the local cafe/shop for lunch and the food was amazing. I’d also read in the reviews about the black rock takeaway too so we tried that for dinner and we were not disappointed. The Loch is stunning, even the drive up is beautiful. We would def visit again.

Newly refurbished, Kilchurn is a delightful log cabin with a real log fire and a relaxing private wood-fired hot tub (now included), situated on the western shore of Loch Awe with a truly marvellous view over the water.
Kilchurn is a delightful log cabin situated on the western shore of Loch Awe with a truly magnificent view. The cabin is fully self-catering, no host is present other than the nearby caretaker and you have the place to yourselves. Recently modernised in a fantastic loch-side location, the interior comprises an open-plan living room/kitchen area offering a magnificent view of the loch with a covered balcony, two bedrooms and a shower room/toilet, accommodating 4 guests. The cabin is situated in the Dalavich Chalet Park with wide-open spaces between cabins, guaranteeing peace and quiet even during busy periods. The park is within the Inverliever Forest which offers wonderful country walks in the immediate vicinity, as well as access to fishing, cycling, sailing and of course the rich wildlife. This unique cabin is perfect for a young family or for couples to enjoy a relaxing holiday in a unforgettable location. Dalavich is central to the many and varied attractions in Argyll, such as The Avich Falls, Invarary Castle, Oban and its famous distillery. It also offers a convenience store for amenities and basic groceries, and a social club/bar which serves alcohol and hot meals, but please bear in mind that it is relatively remote, and if you require a more extensive range of amenities, you must drive 45 minutes to Oban. A car is highly recommended to stay here, but there are regular buses which run from Glasgow to Oban, and Oban to Dalavich.
Dalavich (Scottish Gaelic: Dail Abhaich) is a village in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It lies on the western bank of Loch Awe and has a population of around 70. (It is located 30 miles from the main town and port of Oban, connected by the villages of Kilchreanan and Taynuilt) "Dalavich" is Gaelic in origin and means "meadows/valley of the River Avich". The village was established by the Forestry Commission in 1952 to facilitate timber operations in the surrounding Inverliever forest. This was labour-intensive and horses were used to extract timber from the forest - it is possible to get a glimpse of this history by visiting the "old stables" which contain material from this epoch. Nowadays, a number of villagers still earn their living directly from forestry. Inverliever forest was acquired by HM Officer of Woods in 1907 and was one of the original "State Forests". In September 1919, the Forestry Act came into force, setting up the Forestry Commission and giving it responsibility for woods in England, Scotland and Wales. The basis of forestry policy in the 1920s was the need to rebuild and maintain a strategic timber reserve. As the surrounding area could not supply adequate labour, the forestry village at Dalavich was established. In 1971, Inverinan forest was added to Inverliever. There are forest walks and cycle routes maintained by the Forestry Commission nearby, and houses or cabins are available for tourists. Popular forest walks include the Dalavich Oakwood Trail (where red squirrel, pine marten, woodpeckers and many other woodland inhabitants may be seen), and the Avich Falls; there are many more nature trails, e.g. to Otter Point. There is a church, a small shop and cafe with a part-time Post Office. There is also a social club as part of the community centre, the village also hosted a primary school but this was closed in 1997 due to an insufficient number of pupils. In 1997 there was only 1 pupil. There is boat hire and fishing permits can be bought locally. Some of the largest trout caught in Europe have come from Loch Awe.
  • We had a brilliant time at the Kilchurn Lodge. Personally I'd say that the lodge is more of a stocked out glamping pod rather than a lodge but it has all of the basics (well kitted out kitchen) and we didn't miss not having modern features. Hot tub is a bugger to get going, I've correctly got many fires going in my time but was at it for 6 hours and it was still lukewarm. My advice would be to throw everything at it right from the beginning and don't be stingy with the fire lighters! Dalavich is amazingly isolated (1/2 hour along a single track road) which we loved. Incredibly beautiful Loch. Also definitely check out Black Rock Curries

  • George’s place is a gorgeous get away with a hot tub and sauna. We loved the space, it was clean, well kept and George was also a fantastic host, keeping us informed about the weather (as we had travelled from 6 hours away). He is very quick at responding to queries and this alone made us feel welcome. We would definitely return to his cabin to spend longer there as we only had 2 nights.

Welcome to this little sanctuary hidden away from the hustle and bustle of a fast-paced modern life, yet only just over an hour from lively Glasgow, 30 minutes from picturesque Inverary or Dunoon, and just a couple of minutes from breathtaking Loch Fyne and the nearest forest walks. Whether you’re turning left or right out of the driveway the roads are pretty straight forward and places are quite easy to find around here.
This is a simple, wooden summer camping hut for a camper. It is only available during the warmer months as it has not yet been insulated, and it has no heater. I have measured inside the hut and a double camp bed will fit, but you might want to prop it up against the wall in the mornings to make room to move about. Please be aware that I only supply a single folding camp bed for a one-person booking. If the booking is for two people then you will need to bring your own double camp bed or airbed. You're welcome to use the electric air pump that is kept in the game room/garage. I’m happy to supply bedding and towels. If you choose to bring your own bedding and towels please let me know before arriving. You will have your own private bathroom, which is located just inside of my cottage, and to the right as soon as you walk through the back door into a little hall. The inner door to the cottage will be kept locked due to social distancing rules etc. In the hut you will find a camp stove, Kettle, frying pan, tea/coffee/sugar, and all of the bits and bobs you need to make some breakfast and a drink. If there is anything I have missed please don't hesitate to ask. Always happy to help. Included in the hut booking is the use of a private bathroom, internet, garden (which is shared with me), outbuildings, driveway for your vehicle, and garage/games room where you’re also able to use the electricity and safely store your bike(s) if you have one. A continental breakfast can be provided for a small additional cost of £3.50 per person. The breakfast would include a choice of cereals, juice, tea/coffee, egg, toast, croissant, cheese, and fruit. Well behaved dogs welcome. Must be good with other dogs. Must be up to date with vaccinations and flea/tick treatments. Dogs are £5 extra per day or £10 per day for daycare if needed. This includes one good old walk through the forest along with my own dog and lots of playtime and cuddles.

We love our cosy , well insulated Shepherds Hut . It has a generous sized single bed with a window view of the old medieval village Barr a Chasteilean and views of Ben Lui and Ben Cruachan at the front . A secluded generous space for one to escape to, surrounded by natural beauty. It has electricity and full tea making facilities and a nice space to sit outside
  • Dalmally Railway Station is a real working station, so perfectly situated for travelling the local area without a car, but with a rural feel with mountains on all sides and peace and quiet. Liz and Graham's local knowledge will have you out and about and exploring the best scenery nature can offer. Hospitality is second to none, with nothing too much bother and always there with a hot cup of coffee, or even a lovely Scottish supper of local cheeses, smoked salmon and home made bread on arrival to ease the weariness of travel. The rooms are all uniquely restored from the old victorian railway station, with the mens loos converted to an incredible shower block and some rooms with their own washrooms too. Everything was extremely clean and everything had been thought of to make my stay as comfortable as possible. The hospitality even spread to the station dog Angus, who would come to greet me everyday. Such a character and a local legend. When the weather is too bad to be out and about sit back and enjoy the scenery or help out with the sheep and hens. Plenty to do and see and the perfect writers retreat or hikers rest stop.

  • When you visit scotland, you just have to pass by dalmally station and stay at liz and Grahams place. Peaceful, quiet and lovely! Had one of the best nights since long!

  • What a fantastic charming place, full of character. Graham upgraded me on my arrival from the hut to a room. The room was lovely and warm and had anything I could need. The hospitality was above and beyond from what anybody could expect. I had been gifted oatcakes, double smoked salmon and a variety of cheeses. I certainly didn't go to bed hungry. The station is such a sleepy place to stay. There's a variety of things to do and Graham armed me many local trips and ideas. I wish I could of stayed longer and I do hope to return. The perfect getaway to unwind.

Attie the Stattie is our static caravan, positioned to the west of our family home Hill Park, on Loch Awe side, Argyll. With incredible views towards both Ben Cruachan and Loch Awe, as well as evenings sunsets to the West, Attie is surrounded by panoramic beauty and is the perfect place to escape to. The log burner means Attie has a warm welcome awaiting you - there is a TV, the kitchen is well equipped, there is a loo and shower, and a comfy double bed.
The space is a static caravan - it consists of an outside deck, a sitting/dining area, kitchen, bathroom with loo and shower (no bath) spare room/dressing room and a double room with a comfortable double bed (that has an electric blanket on it!)
The caravan is ideally situated for exploring the West Coast around Oban and is in easy driving of Perth, Glasgow (2.5 hours) and Edinburgh (3.0 hours). Oban, Inveraray and Glencoe are just about an hour’s drive from Attie. When going out you have a 20/25minute drive out to the main road every time but then it is relatively quick. Taynuilt (8 miles) is the nearest shopping. Nearby you have the world renowned smokehouse of Inverawe https://www.inverawe-fisheries.co.uk Oban is the gateway to the islands and is the seafood capital of the West! It also has a wonderful distillery! Enjoy a superb holiday just metres from the shore of Loch Awe in one of the last remaining Scottish Camping Railway Carriages in a spectacular location on the beautiful shores of Loch Awe, the Railway Carriage has been carefully restored to maintain all original features and provides comfortable accommodation for a quirky and unforgettable holiday. The carriage originally ran on the London to Edinburgh main line and has been converted by an enthusiast into a delightful and unusual holiday home.

There are beautiful views over to Kilchurn Castle, one of the most photographed castles in Britain which is accessible by foot along an attractive path from the Castle's carpark which is just one mile from the Carriage. For the enthusiast, the carriage is a Mark 1 number 4494 built at York in 1956. RECREATE THE CAREFREE HOLIDAYS OF THE 1950s............BUT THIS TIME IN COMFORT! Accommodation for 5 on one floor. (There are two sets of steps leading up to the carriage from ground level) Living room; Dining area; Kitchen; Double bedroom; Bedroom with single bed and a pair of full size bunk beds; Shower room with shower and wash basin; Toilet with wash basin. There are beautiful views over to Kilchurn Castle, one of the most photographed castles in Britain which is accessible by foot along an attractive path from the Castle's carpark which is just one mile from the Carriage. Within 20 miles there are a great many places of interest and things to do, including: cruises on Loch Etive, boat hire on lochs Awe and Etive, The Sea Life Centre, Oban chocolate factory, The Inverawe Smokery (with excellent facilities for families), Inveraray Castle and Jail, Oban Distillery and many other places. Loch Awe station is a stop on the West Highland Line from Glasgow to Oban which, together with the local buses which pass the road end, allows visitors to arrive and reach many local places of interest by public transport as well as by car. The Hydro-Electric Power Station (well worth a visit) within the "hollow mountain" of Ben Cruachan is served by its own railway halt four miles away. ScotRail's Caledonian sleeper provides easy access from the south and car hire is available in Oban. Oban is an excellent shopping centre and many ferries provide opportunities to travel to Mull, Iona and the many other islands of the Inner and Outer Hebrides. Rather than a long car journey, why not travel by rail to the adjacent station and hire a car locally. Mill Cottage dates from around 1880 and was originally home to the miller of the adjacent (non working) sawmill. Later on it was the telegram office for the area. Nowadays it is a traditional holiday cottage, quirky and full of character. The location and outlook are wonderful with breathtaking views of Loch Awe and lawns that give way to natural wild gardens and woodland. Listen to the burbling stream and enjoy the 3 acre field in front.
This 150 year old farm cottage has a lot of history, many traditional features, antique furniture, and tongue and groove panelling from the sawmill opposite There is a Morso wood burning stove and the original, slightly uneven, flag stones in the hallway. We also have brilliant fast BT unlimited wifi broadband Our guests have access to the entire house and the surrounding countryside and loch side. The neighbourhood is very quiet, secluded and peaceful. You can hear the owl hoot and sea eagle or osprey call, you will see the stars at night, red deer in the field at breakfast, brambles and sloes grow in the garden and there are roses in the summer and wild flowers in the fields. You will experience the calming and relaxing clean country air Glasgow airport is just over an hours drive. There is ample parking at the cottage. It has a private garden and field around the cottage. A stream runs past down to the loch (lake). Guests are free to fish from the shore in front of the cottage, with permission slip from the owner, and to walk in the hills, observing the usual country codes (shut gates that are shut, do not walk through cattle and sheep but around them etc) The neighbourhood is one of utmost tranquility and peace. You can spend the entire week reading with no distraction apart from the birdsong if you wish, or you can spend each day exploring a different tourist attraction in the surrounding area. There are buses that go past the cottage 6 times a day. You can put your hand out and stop them. They go directly to Oban, Inveraray, Loch Lomond, and Glasgow and stop at Dalmally train station (4 miles) and conned with ferries to the islands of Mull Coll Tiree Uist etc. The cottage is OLD, it is quirky, there are the expected dings that come with age, like uneven flagstones in the hall and a relatively steep staircase. There is a private water supply which after heavy rain can be peaty colour. If this occurs we supply 5L flagons of water for cooking and drinking. My husband and I were both brought up on the lochside. It is a rural part of the Highlands, in the middle of an area of outstanding natural beauty. You can spend each day by the loch swimming, fishing and having picnics or you can visit the astonishing amount of tourist attractions in the immediate area. The cottage is surrounded by a working farm. Fishing below the cottage from the shore is included in the rent. Fishing elsewhere on the loch is by permit available locally
The neighbourhood is peaceful West Highland rural life. There are deer in the field in the morning, eagles and ospreys overhead, foraging in the woods behind and picnics and fishing and swimming adventures to be had on the sandy shore in front of the cottage. Dams to be built in the stream alongside and walks abound for all abilities. There is unlimited BT wifi internet so you can sit and have tea in the garden and book your tickets to Mull and Iona the next day (for instance). Inveraray and its fantastic restaurants and shops are 10 minutes away if you don't fancy cooking, or want a take away.
  • We had a lovely mid week break at the cottage. It is in a perfect location for exploring this part of Scotland. We enjoyed a local walk around the cottage and snowy mountain walks on Ben Cruachan and in Glen Coe. Great that we could bring the dog and brilliant HOT bath and a log fire for the end of the day! Would definitely recommend!

  • We can't recommend this cottage enough. It is set in the most stunning location and despite being treated to some typically Scottish summer weather the rain didn't dampen the experience at all. We spent some time exploring the surrounding hills with our little dog, took a boat out on the loch and enjoyed checking out the local villages. The perfect break from the pressures of daily life!

The original building was built in the 1700's looking quite different from what it does now, but it was an Inn then, so has now gone back to it's original purpose. Cladich is in a rural position, but with great access to the countryside including lovely Loch Awe. Every outdoor pursuit is catered for, from fishing, kayaking, walking, cycling, skiing, climbing, sailing, hunting and much more all within an hours drive. There is history in abundance to discover, or just take time to stroll & relax.
We are based next to the Cladich River, so there is always the sound of water in the back ground. Most days there are Highland Cooo's in the field opposite the house as we are in a rural location, but there always seems to be people around to talk to. Loch Awe Boat Yard is 2 miles down the road, along with Arbrecknish where a drink and a meal can be had in the evenings.

Built for the maid of the house The Maids Hut @ Cnocrannach is traditionally Scottish, made from corrugated iron, windows of varying size and lined with wood. The original high level toilet is still there as well as the wooden sash windows adding to the rustic charm of this wee hut. The wee log burning stove will keep you cosy. A 5minute walk from Taynuilt Station with daily trains to Glasgow and 2 stops from the Gateway to the Isles, Oban. We are dog and child friendly and so is our Maids Hut.
There are bunk beds and a single bed in the bedroom with the option of a cot. The bedding provided consists of 15 Tog anti-allergy goose feather duvets, pillows, plus blankets and hot water bottles. It has a petite fitted kitchen with 2 ring hob (no oven), kettle, toaster, fridge and all crockery and equipment. Heat is provided by the small log burning stove if you choose to use it. Please note there are NO showering facilities at the hut but there is a private traditional high level toilet original to the hut. The Hut is situated behind our Victorian family home in our garden so you can't see it from the road but we have a sign for the hut at the bottom of the drive to make us easier to spot. There is parking available in the driveway.
Just off the main road (A85) but surrounded by farmland with views to Beinn Cruachan and 2 minutes walk to the village (Taynuilt) centre. Within the village there is a grocers, Post Office, cafe, butcher, hair dressers and Inn, plus the train station. Walk a further few minutes and reach the play park, sports field and the challenging 9 hole parkland golf course. Continue walking and you will reach the shores of Loch Etive.
  • Helen's hut was a unique and interesting Airbnb. Really cosy once you get the little stove going (even in Feb). Very handy if you just want somewhere to stay for one night.

  • We stayed at the Maids Hut for a night on our way to Glasgow. We immediately got the wood burner going which got the hut really cosy, and we went on to spend the evening playing Cluedo and Monopoly, sheltering from the lighting, thunder, rain and snow! We had a lot of fun staying here! Helen and her family are really hospitable and their dog (who just had puppies!) is adorable. Thanks for the lovely stay and the amazing eggs!

  • Took my daughter off to the West coast for a wee half-term adventure and this turned out perfect for us. It’s pretty tiny but that added to the fun especially when the fire got going. I got slightly carried away adding fuel and the hut was like a sauna by 10pm - the stove really works! The location is fantastic for public transport - the train is cheap and wonderfully scenic from Glasgow, and it’s five minutes’ walk from the station at Taynuilt.

  • The maids hut is small, perfectly formed and cosy! The fire is a great feature! it had everything we wanted from our stay no tv, put phones away put radio on lovely view of Ben cruachan. trip round to the pub then back made some food had some wine! Brilliant stay will definitely be returning

    Brian2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Helen, the host, is probably the friendliest person you'd ever meet! The hut was cozy (super warm duvets!), great for 2 people, and had everything for a comfortable stay, including board games necessary for long and rainy Scottish winter nights! We've also got some lovely eggs from the hens that were roaming in the garden - definitely the best eggs I've had since my childhood. Great place, lovely surroundings, and dog friendly, definitely recommended.

    Kat2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Loved our stay ! perfect location for some lovely walks . Great value for money quirky rustic and super cozy, excacly what we were looking for . Free coal and wood for the log burner which warmed the whole place up very quickly . Helen had cards and board games also came in handy of an evening over a glass of wine! Thank you for a lovely stay xx

    Elaine2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stopover at the Maid’s Hut. It was a bitterly cold January night, but once we had the wood burner going it was cosy in no time. There were even hot water bottles and lots of blankets in case we got cold! Thanks for a lovely stay.

Waterside apartment in the heart of Inveraray with stunning views over Loch Fyne. This 2nd-floor apartment has 3 bedrooms - one double, one twin and one single - a well-equipped kitchen, spacious living room and bathroom with electric shower. It can accommodate a family of 5, or 4 adults. The building is just a few metres from the loch and the views from the back of the apartment, especially in the morning, can be breathtaking.
Inveraray is one of the major destinations in Argyll but is barely more than a village - come here for solitude, fresh air and natural beauty.
  • Lovely place for a family holiday! Great area and surroundings and would definitely recommend!

    Ana-Maria2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • We spent three days in the small town of Inveraray with our two young children. Of all our stay in Scotland it is - contrary to our expectations - the accommodation of Gus that best suited us: restaurants and shops at the bottom of the house, superb site - small cottages whitewashed on the bank of the loch, departure of excursions accessible on foot around the castle. Gus's apartment itself is comfortable and convenient, in short we would have stayed there for a week.

    Caroline2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Accommodation very well located in the beautiful city of Inveraray.

    Karine2019-08-16T00:00:00Z

  • Very clean apartment, with all the comforts and in a privileged place. I would repeat.

The Writers Retreat within the beautiful Victorian Listed Railway Station was a former general waiting room and now is a bright space with alternative mountain views and platform views . With beautifully refurbished facings and wooden floorings , it has been tastefully recreated retaining the heart of its past. It has multiple uses with a single bed and nice generous double bed . Having both table and chairs indoors and outside gives great freedom
A brightly lit room with an open airy feel. With the double and single bed for friends or family this makes a comfortable room to stay in . There is a table and chairs inside to work or play at. There are little finishing touches that add a little touch of period luxury such as the large gilded mirror and authentic clerks writing desk. Outside the room is a delightful sitting area to watch the trains drift in and out of the station

The Bird Hide is a furnished cosy cabin which sleeps 2 in a double bed. Relax by the wood burning stove, watch the birds from the seating area outside or walk 50m to the lochside, swim, fish or make a barbeque. There is no electricity or wifi - though 4G works on mobiles. There is The Hub next door with a comfy sofa, farmhouse table &chairs, games, books, a gas ring, cooking utensils & stove. A 12V shower you plug in your car socket and compost toilet complete the off grid experience.
The Bird Hide is on the shores of Loch Awe, in a secluded area surrounded by a working farm. There will likely be cattle and/or sheep in the field with you. The cabin has no electricity or WiFi and so you can focus for a few days on the beauty and peace of your surroundings and enjoy the birds and some wild swimming free from the demands of the modern world for a few days. The stars are amazing! The Bird Hide has tongue and groove walls that are constructed from 45mm logs, the wood is milled from slow grown sustainably grown Northern Spruce timber. There are 3 double glazed windows facing the loch in all directions. There is no running water inside the Bird Hide and we provide drinking water in 5l bottles. There is a tap at the farmhouse available 24/7. Bring waterproof shoes/boots as there are great walks in the hills around and always bogs and burns to be crossed. If there has been heavy rain there can be muddy patches on the track too. There is a (pretty basic) solar shower which attaches to something stable above your head such as an overhanging tree branch and warms up in the sun. Good in summer. There is also a great 12V shower one part which plugs into your car lighter socket and the other into a bucket of water. Heat the water on the stove first! Cooking is done either on the top of the woodburner, on a barbeque outside or in the Hub next door. The Hub has a woodburner, large farmhouse table and chairs, comfy sofa, various kitchen utensils, pots and pans and a gas ring. It has books, cards, games and is a great space to paint or read or to cook.
The Bird Hide Cabin is located in Argyllshire, in the West Highlands of Scotland, on a farm. The area is a rural, secluded, mainly farming community and makes the perfect base to explore all that this beautiful location has to offer from mountains, lochs, historic castles and prehistoric attractions. There are 7 castles on the loch itself. There is a wide variety of wildlife from a resident Osprey, Golden Eagle and Sea Eagle to Red and Roe deer, foxes and pine martens. The neighbourhood is an area of outstanding beauty. You can see the stars at night and hear little more than the birds and the train that rumbles along the West Highland line 3 times a day the other side of the loch. The Old Military road runs from the farm up to the monument in Dalmally (no cars on it) and is a great walk with a picnic to see the views out to the Isle of Mull. There is an excellent restaurant and pub in Lochawe and a fish and chip takeaway/delivery service in Dalmally. The pub in Inveraray The George won Pub of the Year in Scotland recently and is wonderful. There are so many things to do round here and I provide a basket of leaflets. I can also give you recommendations of places to go that are off the beaten track. Fishing from the shore is free provided you ask me for a permission slip as landowner. If you fish from a boat you will need a permit available when you hire the boat or at the local shops.
  • We had a much needed weekend away from it all. Both the bird hide and the hut get nice and cosy and it's only a 5min walk to the shore, with no other people in sight. Would highly recommend braving a dip in the Loch. Emma provided great local recommendations, was easy to contact and otherwise left us to it. What a beautiful place

    Lucy2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Emma provides everything we needed. The hut was cosy and the bed was very comfortable.

    Charlotta2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic peaceful location - we had awful weather for our short stay but the bird hide was warm, cosy and dry, and it was very atmospheric listening to the rain and wind outside. Everything was spotlessly clean, we'd love to come back again summer.

    Phil2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a unique spot, unique cabin and unique hub. If you are looking for clamping in style - this is it. We had the comfort of wood stoves yet the outdoor feel of camping and the wonderful feeling of total isolation. Emma was a considerate, responsive host who obviously loves the place herself. She went the extra mile when we hit a bad storm and she offered to store our kayaks for us instead of driving them home. Not neededin the end but much appreciated. Highly recommend this place.

    Meena2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay here, definitely off grid, i enjoyed the peace and quiet, lovely views and walk to the castle.

    Stewart2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • A delighting off grid break. Noone to bother me and lovely hospitality from Emma. The hut itself is warm and very comfortable with more space in the hub if needed. My tip, take a powerful 360 degree lantern if you're going in winter...it's very dark!

    Jolene2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay over the weekend in the Bird Hide! Emma was extremely helpful with recommendations and providing additional fire wood. The Bird Hide is extremely cosy and the views are stunning. We would definitely return!

This cheerful room has two single beds , and two windows giving lots of light . There are roman blinds on the windows as well as shutters. There is a private entrance to your room from the railway platform. This entrance has its own table and chairs in the glazed Victorian Canopy . It does not at present have its own bathroom and this is shared with two other rooms and located along the platform and around the corner of the building . It is a quirky interesting place to stay .
  • Lovely hosts, excellent communication, went above and beyond to help and accommodate us- however, external circumstances meant we were not able to stay. Hoping to book again very soon when things are easier for us all.

Convenient for day trips to Edinburgh or Isle of Mull. Liz’s shop is fun as well. My traveling companion and I would both stay here again. Also consider taking the train to or from this place. This luxury log cabin sits overlooking woodlands on the slopes of Ben Cruachan by Loch Awe. The lodge is an ideal base for fishing, walkers, cyclists and for those wishing to visit the incredibly beautiful West coast of Scotland, as it's central location puts you in reach of many of Scotland's great 'must see' sites. Or simply relax within the cosy lodge, out on the generous decking or relax in the hot tub where you can look out for the red squirrels, pine marten, deer and wild birds.
A fantastic place for couples and friends to share, providing them with the privacy they may desire. Each bedroom having it's own en-suite plus the bedroom with the 2 single beds can be changed to a super king if you request when booking. A wonderful hot tub has been installed for your own private use. You can access it from the decking and is in a cosy and secluded area, having the advantage of being undercover but still out in the open. A perfect way to relax and unwind.
Within walking distance there is a village shop/post office open 7 days a week. You can obtain a fishing permit here for the Loch Awe. A 10 minute stroll from the lodge is our village pub. Newly renovated and perfect for a relaxing drink plus a great menu. Brilliant when you need a break from cooking and you don't want to drive anywhere.

  • What a terrific place to stay. As many have said, the photos don’t do it justice, quite simply a beautiful spot to stay in a stunning location. Even in the terrible weather it was a beautiful place to visit. One of the, many, highlights was being in the hot tub in the hail storm and not having to budge an inch. Bliss. Would highly recommend staying to anyone. Maggie was a wonderful host.

  • We holiday in Scotland around 4 times per year and this was the most amazing house we have stayed in! The house is so lovely and has everything you could need in terms of cooking and feeling at home. I loved the little touches like emergency wine supply! The garden was beautiful and got sun all day long - even little things like the Netflix was great! Couldn’t fault a thing! Amazing spacious home - photos don’t do it justice! Thank you Paul

  • The house is absolutely beautiful. It has a massive garden with a bench and a picnic table. Plenty of space in the house. It’s really suitable for a family with children. Beds were very comfortable. The house had everything we needed and more. The kitchen has a dishwasher which was very handy. The location is lovely. We went for a long walk up to the monument and enjoyed the breathtaking views. The trip to Oben was fantastic. Overall, we had such a great time and will hope to be back.

The bedrooms are large and very comfortable, complete bathrooms with showers. There are very nice and enjoyable common areas to relax. Paul is a very kind and accurate host, ready to give information and answers. Overall we have spent unforgettable days in this house.

  • This house was perfect for our family get together. There’s lots of space, the house is equipped with everything you need. We walked to the adorable train station and took the train to Oban for the day. There’s lots of hiking options right around the house and a little farm with fresh eggs on the walk to the monument. The back garden was perfect for a little one to run around. We just had a lovely time!

    Jaime & Neil2018-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Close to the cutest train station and an easy 2hr train to Glasgow. The local General store is within walking distance and Colin was very helpful. The farm on the walking track to the monument sell fresh farm eggs. The house is very comfortable lacking nothing. Pleasant to just relax and watch the wild birds in the backyard or use as a base to visit the area around. I cannot praise this house and area enough.

  • The ramblers rest is a fantastic cosy little spot to get away for a few days. It’s situated in a fantastic location to see the sights around Loch Lomond and surrounding areas. The cabin looks great, is comfortable and spotless! The log burner is a fantastic addition for a cosy night in and it warms the cabin up when it’s a little too cold to go without. The hot tub provides fantastic views over loch Fyne and the surrounding hills. Sharon is a fantastic host and both herself and her husband Eric were incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Our visit was booked here just prior to the government locking down pubs and restaurants due to our current climate; Sharon kept in touch prior to and during our stay ensuring we were still happy to keep our booking and providing all of the information we could need for a fantastic stay. We hope to return soon and see some of the sights we missed due to the closures.

So nice to have the luxury of a hot tub too and go back into a cosy fire. Thank you so much.

  • Susan and Angela's little apartment was the perfect spot for me as I traveled to Scotland for the first time to learn about where my grandparents came from. I really enjoyed the perfect touches of area photos and art work that gave a sense of the area as well as th nice decorations that made me feel at home. The views from the apartment are spectacular. The wee dram of scotch and bread and eggs were a much appreciated welcome to Loch Etive Apartment treat (odd, and the chocolate marshmallow puddings!) I look forward to a return visit!

This delightful 2 room flat, with its own little patio onto the garden, makes the perfect base to explore the surrounding countryside. Adjoining the house, this cosy compact flat, faces southwest and enjoys the most spectacular sunsets. The Patio has its own picnic bench and barbecue.
What I love about Inverawe is that you can open the front door and go straight for a walk in the most wonderful scenery. I love the fact that the surrounding woods are teaming with wildlife and birds. Often you catch a glimpse of a red deer or roe deer, red squirrels and even sometimes the very shy pole cat, while above the buzzards soar higher and higher. Down by the loch there is a whole other life – seals, otters, oyster catchers, cormorants, ducks – wild flowers and fauna everywhere.
Fifteen miles inland from Oban, Inverawe is very central for touring Argyll, be it south to Crinan Canal, Mull of Kintyre and Kilmartin, north to Glencoe and Fort William or west to Oban, the gateway to the islands. A day trip to Mull and Iona is a must. There is so much to see and do. Argyll is a gardeners paradise, along with castles, walks, beaches, magnificent scenery and a Highland welcome.

WELCOME to TAYNUILT, we feel sure that you will find lots to interest you during your stay. For local history, why not visit Bonawe furnace. Built in 1753, it processed iron ore from the English lake district for 120 years. It is said that cannon balls were made here for the British navy and were fired in the battle of Trafalgar. Indeed , it was in Taynuilt that the first monument was raised by the furnace workers to the memory of Lord Nelson, who fell in the battle. The monument can be seen today on a hill just off the main street. Inverawe Country Park, Fishery and Smokery is only a 15 minute drive away. Here you can fish in their well stocked lochans , explore the nature trails or just enjoy the produce on sale in the shop and tearoom. On a wet day take a trip along to Lochawe to visit Cruachan Power Station and St. Conans Kirk. Cruachan Power Station or "Tha Hollow Mountain" as it is known was the worlds first high head reversible pumped storage hydro scheme. Here you will be driven 1Km into the mountain to witness the large turbine hall. Alternatively, on a dry day and if you are feeling fit, why not walk up the service road to the dam where magnificent views can be had over Loch Awe and the Pass of Brander. St. Conans Kirk is of unique architecture and design and is visited by people from all over the world and is well worth a visit. If Golf is your thing,Taynuilt has a fine 9 hole course and for a change there is also a course in Oban and Dalmally. For local fare, drop into the "Robins Nest" tearoom on the main street for some fine home baking. Or take a trip along to Connel, cross over the bridge and enjoy a meal in the Lochnell Hotel's conservatory dining room overlooking the bridge and Falls of Lora. In the summer months a traditional highland ceilidh is held every week in the village hall. The village store stocks most items and is open from early till late every day. If Iain hasn't got it, he can get it.
  • An real gem of a place. So many lovely homely touches, super comfy bed and views you can't tire of. We found it a great base for exploring a beautiful part of Scotland. Would recommend.

  • This is a great flat with a wonderful view and all the amenities necessary. The host Anne makes you feel very much at home and the surroundings are fantastic. I can highly recommend this place for a couple if you’re looking for a getaway in the Scottish nature. It’s located on a supposedly busy connecting road but I didn’t find that there was much traffic (although we stayed in winter, in summer this might be different). Extremely good value for money, highly recommend.

  • Anne's apartment is lovely. It has all the things you might need to feel comfortable. Well equipped kitchen, games, TV, comfy bed, extra blankets etc. It really is a home from home and we enjoyed our stay a lot. The view from the kitchen is absolutely outstanding and makes washing up a special treat! Would highly recommend for a couple. (might be a bit cramped with more people). Very well located for day trips around the area and a lot less touristy than other areas like loch Lomond. Handy tips and welcoming hosts.
