“Today, there is only one operating brewery in Gilpin County, Colorado. Dostal Alley Brewpub & Casino, located on Main Street in Central City, is celebrating nearly 150 years of the advent of brewing in the “Little Kingdom of Gilpin”. During Colorado’s historic gold and silver rush years from 1859 to the early 1900s as many as fifteen different breweries made beer for thousands of thirsty miners in the “Pointylands.” ”

“Central City is a casino town with loads of Old West history. It’s a former gold mining camp where visitors still come to cash in. The historic downtown section is remarkably well kept. The best route into town is the Central City Parkway, a scenic drive high atop a mountain pass. Black Hawk is situated just one mile from town and has the bigger of the casinos. “A half mile up Eureka Street to the west are three cemeteries with hundreds of ornate stone markers and intricate grill work, and headstones dating back to the 1860s. The three are the Central City Cemetery, the Knights of Pythias and the Catholic Cemetery. Visitors can explore these cemeteries and wander among the headstones marking early day Central City residents' grave sites.”
