Situated on the grounds of The Manor, a nineteenth century residence at Castlelyons, Fermoy, Co. Cork, Ireland, The Gate Lodge is a sedate luxury self catering accommodation which offers a secluded and tranquil place in which to rest and relax. Prices include, wi fi, utility charges, linen, and towels. Guests are welcome to explore the gardens.
Much has changed since the coachman, Patrick Allen, lived here with his family in three small rooms in 1901. Now the floor area of the living quarters has been extended to 115 Mts sq. The ground floor of this self catering accommodation consists of a fully fitted kitchen complete with washing machine, a living room with a large sofa bed, armchairs, dining table and chairs, TV, and a solid fuel wood burning stove; and a ground floor bathroom complete with bath and power shower. The upper floor has two bedrooms, one with a double bed, and the other with two double beds and an en-suite. The accommodation is fully central heated. It has all the advantages of self catering accommodation: safe for children, secure car parking, outside space with garden furniture, barbecue facilities, and covered external drying space. Visitors are welcome to wander and explore the gardens which have been planted over the last hundred years and have a mixture of native and non native plants, shrubs, and trees. Privacy is what we consider most important for our guests, but if they wish interaction we are available. Price includes, all utility charges, Wi-Fi, linen, towels, and welcome pack.
  • Booking a place to stay for six (four children, three teens and a nine year old) and my husband and I, in a country we have never been to, going off maps and photos, we took a chance on what looked to be a beautiful place. In all actuality it was the PERFECT place for my family to spend eight days. Approx 13 acres of beautiful land to walk and explore! Our cottage was large, clean and with two bathrooms, mornings were much easier to manage. We arrived at 3am and our GPS wasn't working. Our wonderful host stayed up and actually drove to meet us when we exited the freeway and lead us back to the home. She also, knowing we were arriving late, had cereal, milk, bread and coffee for us to enjoy breakfast the next morning. The wi-fi, through no fault of our hosts, was being upgraded in that area that week, it was a bit inconvenient for a couple days, but our hosts gave us their personal wi-fi code and we were able to sit on their beautiful patio and use it if we needed to. I think it made for a better time for my family as we were unplugged more than normal and the kids enjoyed playing games together, both inside and running around outside . together. You can walk to the local "Abbey" if you wanted a drink. We planned to go, but never made it. There are also awesome sights to walk to, including an old castle. It was like stepping back in time and, honestly, I don't think if we had stayed anywhere else we could have had a better experience. We loved the hosts, their dog Kaiser, the grounds and the area. Perfect Ireland experience!!

  • Nuala was so welcoming! The gatehouse was very clean, warm and cozy. We loved our time there. I told her she set the bar very high as we had two other places to visit. My children loved playing on the grounds. I would highly recommend staying here. She left some goodies in the fridge for us to enjoy as well. We were very comfortable with every need met.

    Theresa2015-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • House was very nice plenty of space, was a good change from being in the city. While the location is a bit out in the country you do have stores to buy food if needed within a 10 minute walk. Hosts were helpful and on call when needed. We enjoyed our stay.

    Henry2016-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Nice clean secluded place. Great for resting and recuperating. Clean and cozy. House is part of a Gate house so not a typical drive up appearance, but the grounds are lovely. Things to consider. Surrounded by crows, but house is well insulated from the noise.

    Rick2017-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • The Gate Lodge is a stunning place to stay. It is spacous and spotlessly clean. For us it was central for Fota wildlife park, Trabolgan and Cork city. As a host, Nuala was wonderful and allowed the children to play in the grounds of the estate. We will definitely return for another visit.

  • Kerena is very kind and welcoming. Her house is charming and very clean with all equipment necessary. We highly recommend this accommodation.

    Franck2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Kerenna's place is an excellent venue when travelling the area of Rathcormac. We arrived quite late but stayed in contact and had no problems booking in. Kerenna's place is clean, in a quite area and comfortable. Apart from coffee and tea in the room, we were offered self-help breakfast of cereals, toast and jams, coffee, tea. Excellent value for money and a very friendly host.

    Phillip2017-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed in Kerennas house but unfortunately our paths didn't cross and we missed eachother as we had travelled early to Cork and home again so we missed Kerenna but her house is fabulous! It's clean, warm, comfortable and her Mam (who let us in) was really nice aswell! Definitely recommend!

    Louise2017-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • The stay at Kerennas place was very cool. The location is easy to find. The room is absolutely tidy and comfortable. The sky tv is a cool Feature after daytime activities in the area. Kerenna herself is very nice she gave us all Information we needed. Unfortunatelly we hadn't much time with her. Definitely recommended as a stay in that area.

    Christopher2017-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wedding in the area and Kerenna’s place was perfectly located in between the church and the reception. Kerenna is really nice, very accommodating and friendly. Very easy to communicate with and very knowledgeable of the area. We had the chance to meet her mother too, who was also very nice. The bedroom is airy and light. The bed is very comfortable. It was very helpful to have an A4- sheet with useful information, as for instance restaurants, emergency numbers and taxis. There is a kettle in the room, tea, coffee and biscuits (our favourite ones), which was really nice. The house itself is nice and warm. We could not fault the breakfast either. Kerenna kindly provided gluten free cereals and bread for Xenia, THANKS A MILLION FOR THAT. We would definitely stay there again if we were in the area.

The air bed in the second room is not particularly comfortable but the double bed is and the room is quite cosy.

  • This is the first trip that we took to Ireland and our first time using Airbnb, and Mary really set the bar high! From the moment we arrived to the moment we said "goodbye", everything was great. • Mary's home is LOVELY! It was very clean, easy to find, and a lot more spacious than anticipated! We only had 2 adults and a child but could have easily fit more people. She even left out tea and coffee for us! Unfortunately, we did not get to meet Mary in person but she sounds wonderful and had excellent communication. Also, check in was very easy. I would definitely stay here again if in the area and HIGHLY recommend staying here. Thanks again, Mary!!!

  • Large, spacious house close to Fermoy town centre. Margaret was a great host, very helpful - would highly recommend for any stay in the area.

    Paul2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • We unfortunately did not have the opportunity to meet Margaret, as she was experiencing some health issues. Despite these, she made sure we were able to access the house. The room was very spacious and clean. One downside was the distance to any major places and activities. However, city center Fermoy does have some nice restaurants.

    Kara 2016-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Margaret made us feel more than welcome and we had the house to ourselves on the night we stayed there. We were late in arriving and Margaret sat talking with us and made us a cup of tea. She was a lovely host and the house was lovely. She advised us about where we should visit around the areas we were travelling and she was spot on. The house is very central to the town and there is a lovely park there. We would certainly stay here again. Lovely lady.

  • During my stay Margaret helped me a lot. It was my first time at a BnB and thanks to Margaret has been a great experience. She is so nice and a great person. Every time she tried that I felt like at home. She told me and showed me many things about Ireland and Fermoy. The room was very cozy and nice. The location and views are great. I highly recommend Margaret`s BnB.

    Erica2015-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Margaret was a wonderful host! She picked us up from where our bus dropped us off in Fermoy and took us on a beautiful drive through the city and showed us some of her favorite spots. She offered to drive us around if needed and was intent on meeting our every need. The room that we stayed in was gorgeous and comfortable - just what we needed after a hectic weekend. Margaret was always available for help and guidance during our stay. She had breakfast ready for us early in the morning and even drove us back to Cork to catch our bus to Dublin. We wish we could've spent more time at Margaret's because she was such a lovely host! I would definitely recommend Margaret's B&B without any hesitation.

    Liz2013-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • We LOVED staying at Margaret's Bed and Breakfast!!! She had a cute, charming place and it was in a great location for us! The beds were super comfy and the room was HUGE!! We had tons of space-- also the bathroom was spacious as well. We had tons of space to spread out all to ourselves. Margaret usually cooks a large breakfast in the morning, but we had to leave very early in AM-- so instead she set out plenty of food for us to help ourselves and to eat quickly on our way out the door. She is a warm, accommodating host! We really enjoyed chatting with her and she has tons of fun stories. Also, she was quick to make lots of great recommendations on restaurants and pubs with live music. She even drove us to a dinner spot herself because she was worried we might have trouble finding it. I HIGHLY recommend this bed and breakfast! We had a LOVELY stay and everything was absolutely perfect!!!!

  • We had a lovely stay in Fermoy in this great flat with everything you would need! It was clean and warm and Ed was right there to check us in and so warm, friendly and helpful. I sent him a text to let him know when we would arrive and he was there waiting for us when we got there. He also provided some basics for breakfast so we wouldn't have to go out to pick anything up in the morning, which was a nice touch! Thanks for everything, Ed!

My place is situated in the centre of Fermoy town close to nightlife, public transport, town centre, parks. You’ll love the location, the house and all the comforts you need. Renowned for inland fishing, it is an attractive base to explore the history and amenities of north and east Co. Cork. It is centrally located for visiting counties Tipperary, Waterford, Limerick and Kerry. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and big groups.
My place has been finished to a high standard and offers very comfortable living throughout your stay.

  • Absolutely amazing house. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is in a brilliant location, really close to the high street and supermarkets and a brilliant cafe literally over the road. The house is furnished to a really high spec. The kitchen is perfect, like a home from home. Everything was provided as listed and some! The house suited our needs and we will definitely be staying here again! Thank you Cheryl.

    Louise2016-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Cheryl's home is just beautiful. It's spacious and fabulously decorated. The lounge is gorgeous and all the furnishings are quality. It was fairly windy whilst we were there but the house is so warm and well insulated. Cheryl's mum met us and took us through the house, which was really easy to use. Kitchen is fab! It's central and close to supermarkets and cafes. There is also a really handy car park across the road for a Euro a day. Our toddlers had fun playing with the toys kept there too, which was a great touch. It's everything we needed in a home and as regulars to Fermoy, we'll certainly book again. Thanks so much.

  • This place is very stylish :-) and is well equipped. Well located to access shopping and amenities in Fermoy. Host responded quickly to questions. It was very good value and worth considering for stays in Fermoy or Cork as there seems to be such a shortage of affordable accommodation in Cork city.

    Hannah and Jasper2016-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Cheryl is a gracious host and proved to be very helpful. Her place is an awesome value.

    Dennis2017-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Cheryl's place can not be faulted. The rooms are lovely and the facilities first class. Cheryl and her Mum and Dad (who live close by) were great to deal with. If you need a place in this area you are close to shops, restaurants, and bars. There is easy parking opposite and you can be in Cork in no time. Absolutely lovely.

    Len2016-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great, responsive host. Cheryl's mom was close by to help with any issues and really made us feel like family. My girlfriend and I have a two year old and Cheryl provided us with a pack n' play portable crib which was perfect for us. Grocery stores are a 5 minute walk from the front door, a beautiful park, lots of restaurants and shops all within a 15 minute walk. I would definitely go back!

    Brian2017-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Cheryl was very helpful and easy to get hold of when we needed her. The house was great for a family of four, good location in the town and Fermoy is in a good place for touring around the area. We would stay there again . Thanks Cheryl.

  • Awesome! Our family of 4 loved staying at Fisherman's rest, and in my opinion it is the nicest Airbnb we have stayed at. Super comfy beds with great feather pillows and down comforters. Everything was beautiful and clean and comfortable. I recommend it highly! Donal was also great at giving us tips and suggestions for where to visit, eat, etc. Also there is a great park right across the street that our daughters loved. And the shower is great! And the garden! We recommend the walk to the towers (outside of Lismore). This is a short beautiful hike that ends at some really impressive ruins.

    Beth2016-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our brief stay at this little apartment in Fermoy. The beds were so comfortable. It had every appliance we needed for our stay. Donal greeted us warmly on our arrival and gave us a hand to settle in with lots of great advice.

    Robin2016-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Fisherman's rest is a very comfortable and well accomodated space close to downtown and lots of lovely walks in the area. The garden out back is truly beautiful. Above all, Donal and his wife Edna were truly generous and gracious hosts. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

    Nicole2017-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • Donal is very nice and courteous. I booked the apartment for a friend of mine and the communication in advance was perfect - quick feedback and no problem at all when we had to change the bookings. The apartment is very clean and offers evreything you need. My friend Steven was also impressed by the beautiful garden Donal and his wife had set up and where he was able to linger for a while. They were also very helpful and offered to give Steven a ride to the grocery store to get what he needed. Both, Steven and me, would like to thank you for you kindness and for welcoming Steven so cordially in your home! We wish you all the best!

    Aline2015-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great basement apartment - even though it has a little hard to heat. Can't fault Donal as a host. The garden was beautiful too. Highly recommended.

    Laura2015-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • Experience was great. Donal met us and reviewed everything we needed to know about that apartment and where to find things in Fermoy, As expected, it was nippy while we were there, but we still managed to enjoy the lovely garden.

    Deborah2016-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • While the apartment is lovely, it is the hosts, Donal and Edna who really make this place special! They shared their favorite pub with us and it was the best time we have had in Ireland. Everyone was so friendly and fun to talk with! The apartment is nicely located near pubs and markets. Sight seeing is just a short drive away and parking is right outside the door. The apartment itself is beautiful with all the amenities of home, if home were this nice. The shower is amazing! Donal has a wonderful garden that he is happy to share with you. Overall a perfect stay.

A blacksmith's forge near the Bride River in the heart of rural Cork complete with vegetable garden and free range hens - leave the rat race for a day or two and put your feet up, or explore the Rebel County and beautiful West Waterford.
We are 40 minutes northeast of Cork city, between the rivers Bride and Blackwater, in a beautiful recently restored 200 year old stone blacksmith's forge on the edge of an Irish rural village. Our home is fitted with eco technology including geothermal underfloor heating and solar panels, and with two wood burning stoves. We have a very large enclosed back garden complete with separate fruit and vegetable gardens, and hen enclosure with fresh eggs daily. The double guest bedroom has been newly decorated, the children's bedroom (when available) will suit up to three children and your bathroom contains a Victorian rolltop bath and shower. The kitchen/dining room is at the heart of the house with sofas and easy chairs around the wood burning stove, and there is also a sitting room with TV and piano. The kitchen opens up on to large south facing patio with table and chairs. We are 15 minutes walk from our local village, where there is a small grocery store, post office, three pubs, two churches and a cafe. Cork is 40 minutes drive away, and is the second largest city in Ireland, on the south coast. Cork is renowned as the food capital of Ireland, containing the world-famous English market as well as great bars and restaurants. We are a 20 minute drive from Ballymaloe House, home to three generations of famous Irish cooks (all women!). The nearest large town is Fermoy, 15 minutes drive away for larger supermarkets, shops and restaurants. We are 15 minutes drive from the historic and beautiful town of Lismore, with its beautiful castle and gardens. We have bicycles that you can use whilst here, and everything that you would need for a picnic when you're on a romantic walk or cycle in the area. If we're away, up to five people can stay here, as up to three singles are available in the second bedroom. Also, we'd welcome couples travelling with a baby/toddler as we have a travel cot that will work perfectly in the double bedroom. We like to exchange a few messages before we confirm your booking, so we look forward to hearing from you! Typically we need a few day's notice of your visit, but it's still worth asking even if it's last minute and we'll try our best to accommodate you.
  • I had an incredibly delightful two-day stay with Caroline, Peter and Daniel. Their small village location makes for a perfect stay when you are exploring the counties of Waterford and Cork. The accommodations were excellent and their company was exceptional. In the category of small worlds, it happens that there is a strong connection to Canada with Caroline's work and her family. Peter and Caroline are wonderful hosts and I would stay with them without hesitation on a return trip to the area. I felt immediately at home and very comfortable in their house.

    Terence (Terry)2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much to Caroline and Peter for such a lovely stay. Really lovely part of the country! The room and bathroom were lovely, and such a beautiful home. Peter, Caroline and Daniel couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. We were treated to a delicious breakfast (and great coffee), both mornings, and all amenities we needed were to hand. Thanks again for everything :)

    Jean2015-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a wonderful visit with Caroline, Peter and Daniel. It felt like home. Peter baked a delicious fish pie for dinner one night. And of course, who could forget "Daniel's pancakes"!! They gave us great ideas of places to see -- we really enjoyed the gardens at Lismore Castle. Tom had a great time playing with Daniel and we enjoyed our mealtime conversations. They have a great house and even though we had a little trouble finding it, it was well worth the trip.

    Bobbie2012-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed a two-night stay with Caroline, Peter and their little son Daniel. They were great hosts, relaxed and very welcoming. Peter cooked some lovely meals using eggs from their own hens as well as produce from their garden. The bed was very comfortable and they even turned on the electric blanket for us. Conna may not be on the main tourist trails, but if you look for an authentic rural home with interesting places to explore nearby (lots of info, maps, etc in the room), then this is for you. Again, thanks for having us and best of luck for 2014! Marcus and Ina

  • My husband and I are on our belated honeymoon, my birthday and our one year anniversary trip all combined into one magical 18 day journey through Ireland. It is my first trip to Europe and my husband's first trip to Ireland. We are discovering this beautiful country together and loving every second! Our first stop was Caroline & Peter's lovely home. We arrived late since we were still getting used to the driving and directions in this country, which there are no street addresses! Caroline and Peter served us dinner the first night we stayed there and we talked for hours! We stayed two lovely nights and we could probably talk for hours and hours with Peter & Caroline since we had much in common. It was a great way to kick off our journey through Ireland! Thank you for such a warm welcome! It was also a pleasure to run into Peter in the camera store when in Cork, felt like we belonged in this country! Thanks ever so much!

  • We had a lovely time staying with Caroline, Peter and Daniel. They were so welcoming from the off and an impromptu gin tasting was a real treat. Their genuine and warm hospitality epitomised what Airbnb is all about. They're perfectly placed for the wedding we were going to at Ballyvolane House a 15 minute drive away. Caroline was also lovely enough to drop us off at the ceremony. Thank you for having us!

    Jack2016-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • A family home in a quiet country location, Caroline's place was a wonderful stopover as I drove around Ireland. The room is spacious and the bed is big and comfortable. The welcome I experienced here cannot be beat, as I was made to feel like an old friend. Excellent travel suggestions provided, too! If your route takes you nearby, I highly recommend a stay here.

Our apartment is only 3 miles from Fermoy Town centre and only 40 minutes from Cork airport. You’ll love it here because of the peace and quiet and being surrounded by beautiful countryside. You will wake feeling rested! Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business people and families as we also have a folding guest bed that you can use. The apartment is completely separate from our own house above our garage/gym area with its own entrance and its own fully equipped kitchen area.
  • We really enjoyed our time in Fermoy. Ed and Antoinette were great, made us feel very welcome. They had left out some books and games for our 5 year old son and some chocolate. Very nice touches. They also had some supplies left in the fridge, butter, eggs, cheese, tea, coffee, fruit, more than we expected. As we had arrived earlier than they expected, the bread was not baked however, we went out walking and when we arrived back to the apartment there was fresh bread waiting for us. Our son really enjoyed playing with their son. They got on very well. The apartment is set in a very quiet area and close to the town of Fermoy. Would definitely recommend Ed's apartment.

  • The apartment over the garage is wonderful! The bedroom/kitchen area is spacious, the bed is spacious, the bathroom is spacious, the shower is spacious. And the softess towels I've ever felt. The location is lovely, a quiet area but a quick drive into town. But the hosts are even more lovely. Ed left us fresh fruit, milk, and stopped by with a loaf of warm bread. I had a warm chat with Antionette in the driveway (who then helped me with my laundry). My husband wasn't feeling well and they told us to not worry about leaving before check out time. We felt so relaxed and welcomed that we ended up staying an extra night.

  • I arrived at Cork Airport were Ed kindly agreed to pick me up. Ed and his family are fantastic and did everything to make my stay comfortable and enjoyable. The fridge had some essientials to get me going. I was working at a business in Fermoy and Ed's flat was just perfect for the working traveller with a small kitchenette with oven, fridge and microwave to prepare lunches and evening meals. The Bathroom was clean and tidy with plenty of towels and essientials. A TV with Saorview and DVD player is available for entertainment. Mobile broadband can be arranged if need be but Fermoy is situated in the beautiful Blackwater valley with plenty of interesting walks and is a mecca for fly fishing. Cork City is 40 minutes away using the M8 motorway, with West Cork, the Lakes of Killarney and the Ring of Kerry being an easy day trip away. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed staying at Ed's and in Fermoy and would thoroughly recommend staying in the flat(URL HIDDEN)
