The Braille House is unique. Right in the heart of Kilkenny, it's just 10 minutes walk from the town centre. A true rural retreat in an urban setting. This warm & cosy treehouse is a beautifully decorated, calm and relaxing space surrounded by bird song. One of a kind.
The Braille House is a treehouse built at the bottom of a long garden, it's about 1.5 metres off the ground. It's very close to the centre of Kilkenny City and bus and train stations. Though only a 10 minute walk from the City and its attractions, secluded by trees and birdsong, the treehouse feels as though you're in a rural retreat with a uniquely perfect urban/rural balance. The house itself is very warm, it's insulated, has two radiators and there's a bioethanol fireplace to cozy up to on a cold winters night or an outdoor picnic area with festoon lighting and a bombfire for a warm summers evening. The interior is quirky, with unique art work, a wall of coloured blocks, a hot air balloon and not a straight line in sight. In fact the house is called The Braille House as we had to feel our way through the project, with only a napkin drawing as our plan. We have just added a beautiful bathroom pod beside the treehouse, with shower and bath facilities making the treehouse a complete retreat experience. We hope you enjoy! Rob & Hel
The Braille House is a 2 minute walk from St. Canices Church and Round Tower on Kilkenny's medieval mile. It's also only a 10 minute walk into the centre of the City, so it's a perfect urban retreat if you want to visit Kilkenny. On the other hand, it's situated down a long, wild garden surrounded by bird song and the sound of the Nore River just 50 metres away. We find a lot of our guests simply take time out to unwind in the trees. So why not sample the City and nestle in nature all in the one short break?
  • Super cosy and clean, enjoyed the experience!

  • Words cannot describe this amazing incredible magical place. Second time we have stayed here and most definitely will be back again. Such a unique experience and you do not want to leave. Location is 5mins from kilkenny town centre, yet when ur in the treehouse you feel so secluded and in your own world. Lovely comfy bed, lots of games to play, full seperate bathroom and hosts who will endeavour to make your stay perfect.

  • The Braille House was a lovely experience! The place is wonderfully done and very thoughtfully put up. Loved our stay! Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Kilkenny. Thanks Robbie :)

  • We had a lovely night in the treehouse. It was so close on foot to the city centre but felt really remote and relaxing in the treehouse. Although it's behind the house there's loads of privacy. The place was really cosy and warm, there were loads of blankets and the fire was a nice touch. We'd definitely recommend this unique stay to friends.

  • Fantastic location for both sightseeing and nightlife. The apartment is over a gaming cafe. Access is through a shared doorway off the street. The stairs are quite narrow and could pose an issue for people with mobility issues. The apartment itself is laid over two floors. Living room /kitchen and bathroom on first floor and bedrooms upstairs. It's clean and spacious. Keys were collected from the gaming cafe. Overall excellent apartment in an excellent location. Good value too.

Located in the heart of Kilkenny on Rose Inn Street & opposite the tourist office. 2 minute walk to Kilkenny Castle. Apt: 1 Bedroom (double). 1 Living Room/Kitchen w sofa bed, 1 shower room & 1 toilet. Offsite Parking (not included). Noise levels can be excessive if you're not used to it. Note: Floor to Ceiling height may be a concern for tall people in the bedroom/toilet space and the uneven, steep stairs from the bedroom to the living space may be an issue for people with mobility problems
Very Central, doorstep to the city.
  • Beyond perfect location! Plenty of space! There are narrow steep stairs for those that have disabilities or trouble with stairs I wouldn’t suggest it. WiFi was great and it’s not too noisy for being across from a pub.

    Katie2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We were not able to meet Tony during our stay but his brother was very kind to us and showed us the place. Everything in the description is true to reality, such as the location being great and very convenient! We will also note that the stairs would be an issue for those with mobility issues but my friends and I got around fine after getting used to them. Thank you again for hosting us !

  • Nice apartment not far from everything. Matt the Millers is a great restaurant to eat at and it's just a short walk. The kilkenny castle is just a short walk. This apartment has a great location

    Megan2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I had a last minute trip to Ireland and lucked out having this space in Kilkenny! Centrally located, great food and bars, easy and inexpensive parking nearby and most things can be done on foot. We stumbled across the Hole in the Wall bar and this made our night talking with people traveling from both Ireland and other countries! Would highly recommend to get a more local feel to the area besides going to the other amazing bars close by! The apartment was just as described and easy to check in. Shower was amazing, hot water quickly and although we didn’t need to use the amenities of the kitchen it was great to have as an option.

  • We stayed with Anne and Will for two nights in December. Anne ensured we had the information we needed to find their house - and that someone would be there to meet us. Their house is absolutely gorgeous - our room and bathroom was very spacious, warm and inviting. Breakfast was lavish with freshly cooked scones and homemade preserves. On our last morning, Anne packed us a take away breakfast, as we needed to leave at 630am. From the start, we were made to feel very welcome in their home and infact, we felt like an extended part of their family! Their hospitality is outstanding - we loved the way they engaged and entertained our 9 year old son. They're a very genuine, friendly couple and we 100% recommend staying with them.

  • Wonderful stay again with Anne and Will. They have a lovely home in the countryside and are amazing hosts!

    Stephen2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely big house in a beautiful peaceful location, the room with a love comfy bed and bathroom right next door were both spotlessly clean, nice breakfast and very welcoming hosts. The scones cooked in the morning given to me for lunch we’re delicious! An absolute pleasure to stay.

    John2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • The Anne house is a beautiful country house in a quiet area and although a little remote, it has a great charm and surrounded by nature and beautiful landscapes, it has a very good location to visit the area. The house is renovated, the room and bathroom are spacious, clean and the bed very comfortable. Anne was awaiting our arrival and indicating the best way to arrive. She is a great hostess who makes you feel at home, provided us with a warm welcome and provided us with information on places to visit. In the morning we had prepared a delicious breakfast in their beautiful kitchen. The experience has been very satisfactory, it is highly recommended. If we return we will repeat without hesitation the stay in Anne's house!

    Jordi2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Large house, spacious room, separate but private sink. Typical Irish country house. It accepts pets and a breakfast served by the hostess very good.

    Raquel2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • I probably shouldn't, but I feel like at home here! Loved every one of my stays here!! Lovely chats with Anne and William, great experience every time!

    Kristina2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Another great stay!!

    Kristina2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Anne's place was in a lovely part of Ireland. The hospitality provided for 3 days to us and our little dog was amazing. We were dropped off at a wedding in Durrow which suited our needs and the breakfasts were so nice (including homemade bread and scones!). Our experience in this rural part of Ireland was so good that we actually want to come back and we can't recommend Anne enough with the incredible accommodation and hosting.

    Robert2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed twice with Anne as our first two nights were brilliant so we booked the third night. This allowed us to have a lift to the castle for a wedding. I'd recommend the accommodation highly as it's in a lovely part of Ireland!

Chalet No 4 is situ in an urban setting and is a special part of our family home, only a 3 min drive to Kilkenny City centre or a 15 -20 min walk. In truth you have it all as a short walk away from your resting place, is open countryside where safe walking /cycling paths exist. Great for country walks and hillside forest strolls, simply follow the signs for Johnswell or Jenkinstown. You’ll love my place because of the cosiness and the comfy bed. My place is good for couples and solo adventurers.
A stones throw from the City Centre with local bus links throughout the day. Bike hire is optional, just ask for quotes. A whole range of shops and supermarkets just up the road
On the doorsteps of Kilkenny Castle, Dunmore Caves, Black Abbey, Smithwicks Visitor Centre, City Centre Gastro Paradise, Pococke Golf Course and Ballykeefe Distillery but to mention a few. Equally very close to the coast with a 50 min drive away to the Copper Coast and there are numerous mountainous regions within 40 mins in every direction. 1 hour 20 mins to Dublin or Limerick, 2 hours to Cork and Galway. Wicklow the garden of Ireland reachable in an hour or so.
  • Cozy and nice place

    Sara2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Our favourite home away from home, in our new favourite city/town! :) Angie and Declan provided us a beautiful, warm and inviting space to return home to after a wonderful tour of the BEST pubs and BEST Guinness (maybe we are biased!) and sight seeing of castles and cathedrals. It was private and wonderfully equipped with all we need. And they had the best suggestions for where to go and what to do! We wish we could have stayed Ionger!

    Eva2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely chalet with a nice bed, shower and small area to sit and a tv I never used.could make tea and coffee and a small table and chairs to sit in the garden if you desire with lovely dogs near by in an enclosure.very good hosts with a very quick responses will stay again no doubt

    Richie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Super clean!! Host was amazing and gave us local tips due to us loving Whiskey. Shower was nice and hot. Heater was amazing and kept us nice and warm. It's a cozy and tucked away back house, complete with a small cooking area. Easy access in and out. Our hostess even thought of the little extras that a traveler might need. A great experience!

    Jessica2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • A warm and cosy cabin that is also very private and close enough to the town. Angie was a great host and the place was so clean and stylish. Would recommend staying here.

    Orla2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A cute little log cabin all to yourself! This place was very cute and warm. Private bathroom and kitchen. From the photos I was under the impression it was on property and in the countryside. Just beware you’re literally in someone’s backyard right next to their digs. Quite expensive but still OK as it seems like Kilkenny is quite an expensive place to rent Airbnb’s :)

Cosy bright luxurious first floor suite with garden views minutes from Kilkenny Castle and the cafés restaurants pubs and shops of High Street. FREE on-site parking. The room is VERY QUIET in a centrally located premium end residential street. There is a super comfortable Queen Size bed and a generous bathroom with power shower. Train - 15 minute walk. Bus - 5 minute walk.
My home is located in the former walled garden of Kilkenny Castle. The gardens of the property are generous and open, enjoying unbroken sunlight for most of the day, even in winter. Built around 1955 the house has been refurbished in the last ten years and enjoys the benefit of a good kitchen and beautiful bathrooms. There is a generous drive with safe off road parking.
Our street is central, quiet and private. The neighbors number several medical professionals and jokingly I call it Millionaire's Row.
  • Andrew was very friendly and provided a nice map of the downtown area with a lot of landmarks to see. Great location! Walking distance to everything. The room and bathroom was very clean. Would definitely stay here again.

  • Such a perfect stay! We had such a perfect time. Wonderful location and the host, Andy, was awesome. Andy offered insight on where to go and is very pleasant! If ever in Kilkenny I would recommend staying here.

  • A convenient location close to the castle (very interesting) and other sights. One of the two towers that you can climb in are in town. Very cool.

    Jimmy2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew's place was absolutely wonderful! The room was bright and spacious, the bed super comfortable, and the bathroom absolutely spotless. When we arrived, Andrew made us tea and we had a lovely time talking with him. He had great recommendations for places to eat and things to see. Extra bonus, his home is within walking distance of tons of restaurants and Kilkenny Castle. I only wish we could have stayed longer!

  • I was unable to make this reservation but Andrew offered to fix the situation. I myself was unable to accommodate but I truly appreciate his concern and care. Though I have found another arrangement. I would rebook with Andrew at the next opportunity. :)

  • We loved Andrew and loved his place. It was just perfect in every way and the location is brilliant.

    Helen2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Very practical room because very well located in the city center. Next to it there are plenty of very nice restaurants and cafes. The castle is right next door too. Andrew is very pleasant and allowed us to use his kitchen to make breakfast. Button, his dog, and his two cats are very nice, our son played with them. Very good place to visit Kilkenny.

    Olivier2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely experience. Large bathroom and comfortable bed. Andrew was very hospitable and generous with his time. Parking and location were huge perks. Just a minute or so walk to the castle. Buttons, the family dog, helped welcome us and even shared his treasured tennis ball for a throw!

The bright open plan enjoys a king size bed, large TV and a modern kitchen. The house is less then 10 minutes stroll to the city centre and within a short walking distance to all that Kilkenny has to offer.
  • This was a cute and perfect place to have as a starting point and end point for our days there. The walk was easy and quick to everything we wanted. Mars also provided recommendations for all sorts of food and fun things to do. We loved it!

    Shay2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Such a fun town to visit and explore! Mars’ place is a bit out of the city center, a little further than we wanted to walk so we drove in. However, it was very clean and the bed was amazingly comfortable.

  • The apartment was lovely, spacious and very clean. Elizabeth was quick at replying to messages about the booking and was very welcoming when I arrived to check in. She showed me around the apartment and gave me some tips for food and drinks in the area. The stove in the sitting room (which was lit for us before arriving) was the best touch to this modern apartment and brought warmth and coziness to the place on a cold winters night. I would highly recommend this apartment for a short or long term stay in Kilkenny. Thanks again Elizabeth for accommodating us on short notice and for a lovely stay in Castlecomer.

  • This is a great place to stop off if exploring Kilkenny city or surrounding areas. The accommodation is very private, it's remote & quiet and spotlessly clean. Beverly provides a lot of extra supplies that most houses would not. It is ideally suited to a couple or a family with 1-2 children

  • If you dont book Beverlys place you will regret it! The location is perfect. So quiet, with the most amazing views. It's about 20 mins from Kilkenny city and perfect to relax & recharge. Baxter & Winston are such friendly dogs too, which we loved as we are such big animal people! We loved the chickens too, and the lovely fresh eggs we got on arrival were delicious! Such lovely touches like milk in the fridge, bread, butter. Typical I had already went to the Aldi down the road & bought the shop! Beverlys place is so tranquil & the communication is brilliant. Thank you so much for a fantastic weekend, we will definitely be back!

Guests have access to the garden and entire farm if you feel intrepid enough to walk down by the stream and up through the trees and fields. We also have a new building which is a lovely place to do some morning yoga, drink your tea while looking at he view, or play some table-tennis! We enjoy meeting people and hearing about their travels, but we are very respectful of privacy. We will welcome you and then leave you to make yourself at home. • Our stay at Kate and James’ Place was fantastic. It was a cozy place with plenty of character. We loved interacting with the two dogs and Whistle the cat. We also loved walking the property to see the cows, sheep and goats! There were plenty of great places in the area to visit and only 20 minutes away from Kilkenny. Thanks very much Kate and James - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

    Shanan2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Kate and James were both so wonderful! They communicated with us so well and it made our trip so much easier. Their stay was just enough outside of town to get an escape from the city, but close enough to make quick trips into the city. Very comfy bed and lots of choices for tea! We loved playing with the dogs and getting to meet all of the other animals. We wish we could have stayed so much longer and taken more time to explore their property. Kilkenny was a fun town and very exciting. Check out O'Sullivans for great pizza and great beer. The bartenders were hilarious. Definitely make this stay if thinking of visiting the area!

  • The studio is located in stunning scenery and if you are looking for a beautiful retreat I honestly can't find fault. There were some lovely touches on arrival such as bread, eggs, honey and tea and coffee making facilities. Kate was so helpful when I asked for local information but was in no way intrusive. The studio was beautiful and felt like home from home:) The best AirBnb I have stayed in by far:)

A cozy, charming, old cottage with loft bedroom, solid fuel stove, private garden and modern conveniences just minutes walk from the heart of the bustling city, overlooking the River Nore and Kilkenny Castle.
A cozy cottage just minutes from the heart of the bustling medieval city. The cottage is in a walled garden set back from the street. It is attached to the bigger house next door where I live. The cottage is accessed from the street through a black steel door. There is a solid fuel stove, central heating, wireless Internet, Sky HD satellite TV and DVD player. There's a small kitchen with fridge, freezer, washing machine, gas cooker, coffee machine, microwave, toaster, kettle etc. The shower room is small but perfectly functional with an electric shower.
5 minutes walk to one of Kilkenny's best pubs - Billy Byrne's which hosts movie nights, DJs and live music as well as street food served from the Búla Bus double decker bus in the back garden. Also 5 minutes walk from Campagne - one of Ireland's 6 Michelin-starred restaurants. The cottage overlooks the weir on the River Nore and miles of riverside walks that make you forget you're in the city. All the historic sites of Kilkenny - the Castle, St. Canice's Cathedral, Rothe House and the Smithwick's Brewery Experience are all 10 - 15 minutes walk away. The home of Kilkenny hurling, Nowlan Park, is also five minutes walk. Railway station with service between Waterford and Dublin in five minutes walk from the cottage. Buses with services to Dublin, Dublin Airport and Cork are a short walk away.

  • The room was very spacious and comfortable, with a large private bathroom. Liz was very welcoming and helpful as we struggled to find the place, which is a bit hard to reach if you don’t have a good GPS system. Me and my wife stayed just one night, but the experience was overall very positive.

House full of character and unique features. Please note that it is NOT in Kilkenny City. Located approximately 20 minutes drive outside of Kilkenny (20km), close to Castle Durrow and mid-way between Dublin and Cork. Very scenic, country area with beautiful walks. 200 year old traditional one storey farmhouse. Renovated to retain as many original features as possible while incorporating contemporary essentials (like a bathroom for instance!!). Majestic ancient beech trees shelter the house. Ideal spot for nature lovers or guests who appreciate a bit of peace and quiet. Guests comment on the comfort of the bed! I consider my home to be relaxed and comfortable. I do NOT live in suburbia. It s a 20/25 minute drive to Kilkenny, 7 minutes to Drrow and about 5 minutes to local supermarket. Please believe me when I say that my home is not suitable for you if you intend to trip the light fantastic in clubs etc as my home is located n the middle of the countryside - so please don't blame me if you are disappointed at the rural nature of the setting! Durrow has a few places to eat - Castle Durrow (open Wednesday to Sunday) Bowes (daytime only), Ashebrook House (weekends only) and The Castle Arms Hotel (open morning noon and night!) This area is a great base for people who want to explore the South East (Carlow, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford & Kilkenny). It is also perfect for anyone attending a wedding at Castle Durrow. There are also beautiful woodland walks in durrow.

  • Marie’s place is just a small paradise perfectly located in Kilkenny County. Thank you again for your amazing taste & hospitality.

    Sophie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy accommodation tucked away in the countryside. Marie is a great friendly host. We booked last minute but she responded very quickly. Directions via the app were spot on

    David2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a little gem! Marie’s cottage is amazing and she is the best host! Would go again in a heart beat!

    Manon2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent stay, Marie waited until we arrived to explain everything. Its accommodation is very nice and cottage style decoration gives it all its charm! In addition the kitchen area is very well equipped!

    Tania2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great place if you need somewhere handy, Marie was more than hospitable and made things so easy... even dropped us where we needed to go the next morning 😃

    Tony2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best bed and breakfast I have ever been. The apartment is fully independ from the host house. It has all equipment you need to spend your night and be ready for your trip. What strike me at first was the beauty of the place and all touches of attention Marie put inside this apartment. It is very cosy. I really felt like being at home. Breakfast can be taken inside the apartment: you can use what Marie put inside the fridge and let inside cupboards (there are a lot of things: jam, cheese, butter, juices, milk, bread, cereals...). You can go there without any hesitation.

    Michaël2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute place and Marie was so welcoming and helpful!

    Jolene2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Marie’s cottage is a wonderful stay. The interior looks even cuter in person and it’s very impressive that the house is over 200 years old and she’s restored it to such a nice condition. That being said, it’s a country cottage. You may find a few crawly friends hiding in the upper corners. But, Marie does a lovely job keeping the bathrooms, bed linens, and such clean. She also left juices and snacks in the fridge. It’s in the middle of nowhere. No WiFi service. But this was nice for us for a chance to disconnect. The cottage is closest to Durrow, but after leaving I would recommend going just a smidge further to Ballyragget for a late dinner if needed. We stayed here on a pass-through to Kilkenny and would do so again if needed!

Newly decorated ensuite bedroom over a traditional Irish pub in City Centre on the Medival Mile. Smithwick's Experience Tour, Canices Cathedral, Black Abbey Church, minutes away. Local pub in the historic part of the city and a great place to make friends. Old world style accommodation with modern facilities. Our pub has a great beer garden, regular music sessions, Serves Irish stew and sandwiches Monday to Friday.
Rooms are over the pub so some noise to be expected especially at weekends and pub is in the city centre. Parking nearby at Dean Street or Abbey Square carpark off Black Mill street, €2 per day. Pass the Pumphouse on your left, take a left at the traffic lights on to Dean Street, as you are driving, parking is on the right side.
  • Perfect location! Everything is a quick walk from the pub, and fantastic that the warm and cozy pub is right down stairs!! Kevin, Norleen and Danny (their very cute dog!) we're all so friendly! Since you are staying right above a pub you should expect that it isn't the quietest place, but nothing a Tylenol PM can't fix :) we will definitely be staying again the next time we're in Kilkenny.

    Melissa2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a great value. It is clean and in a perfect location. Check in was easy. I knew it was above a pub so there could be noise - I am a great sleeper and had no problem. I would stay there again.

    Annie2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful quaint room in a great location. Room is clean and warm. I really loved the staircase and communal books. It is above a bar but tbh we didn't even really hear anything until people were outside in the alley. The hosts are outstanding and room is as described. The bar is lovely and cosy even though it's a big bar. Tanks a mil we had a beautiful stay.

    Elaine2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great Location can walk everywhere in Kilkenny. check in was very easy with the excepti9n of parking which is a bit more difficult, but ince we arrived got jt squared away . Reccomend ear plugs for light sleepers as some late night revelers can be very loud into the early morning.

    Alex2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay in a wonderful town. Music was like a low humm

    Thaddeus2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • This spot is a great little gem in the heart of Kilkenny. It's close (walkable!) to everything you need to see in town. Get parked in the Dean Street car park and forget about the car while you're there (except for paying the €2 daily parking fee). Do yourself a favor and pay for tomorrow's parking after 7 pm the evening before; you'll be able to sleep in the next morning.

    Catherine2019-10-04T00:00:00Z

  • Located right at the foot of the cathedral that lays on the other end of the medieval mile from the castle. Easy walk (10-20 minutes over level ground) to everything in town. The room was nothing special. It was a small room, but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was very nice and clean for a shared bathroom. We were looking for a place to crash at the end of a day of exploring and this was perfect.

Late 18th century beautifully restored stone cottage set in the rural hamlet of Castlewarren, with it’s winding country lanes. In summer the cottage garden can also be used for camping. In winter months a log burning stove ensures cosy times at home.A short walk from the cottage will give you views of Mount Leinster and the Blackstairs Mountains.Perfect touring base for the South East of Ireland. The medieval city of Kilkenny is an 18 min drive away. Dublin City is 1.5 hrs.
The cottage is a peaceful haven , the only noise will be the sounds of rural county life , tractors passing by or cows been moved along the laneways.A passing farmer May close the cottage gates before the cows are moved 😊The cottage has thick stone walls and high ceilings. The double rooms all have king sized beds. The upstairs en-suite bedroom is a scheduled space above the main house. The cottage is a place where you can really disconnect and soak up the tranquility of the area.
We are a 18 min drive to the medieval city of Kilkenny where you will find a wealth of tourist attractions.Kilkenny is renowned for it’s cultural festivals well known amongst these is The Kilkenny Arts week and the Cat’s Laugh. The city and county is a also a foodie destination with an abundance of artisan food suppliers and highly acclaimed restaurants.Savour Kilkenny is an annual national food event , usually in October, hosted outside the beautiful Norman Castle- Kilkenny Castle one of the most iconic landmarks in the country. The region is also home to a thriving community of artists painters, writers , jewellers, musicians .... For outdoor activities, horse riding at the beautiful Mount Juliet hotel in Thomastown is highly recommended, the hotel is also home to The Lady Helen Restaurant an internationally acclaimed restaurant with a one Michelin star.Fishing on the river Nore is also possible by prior arrangement.Hand gliding, biking and hiking are all highly sought after and Mount Leinster part of the Blackstairs Mountain range is an ideal location for this at almost 800 metres high.Castlecomer Discovery Park is also a short drive away with activities for children and the newly opened Avalon Hotel next door to the park is ideal for brunch. There is an excellent walking trail starting at Goresbridge (18 mins from the cottage) follow the river Barrow to the picturesque town of Graiguenamanagh.
  • We were so delighted to find this spot to cozy up in right near Kilkenny. It isn't too difficult to travel back and forth- I only suggest not taking the first left once you get on the last road per the instructions, but rather waiting until you see the first cottage on the left! The place is the perfect combination of old world with modern amenities. We loved waking up on the top floor and peeking out over the Irish landscape through the window. And the birdsong! And the breakfast!! All worth repeating!

    Alyssa2020-03-15T00:00:00Z

The cottage was beautifully decorated, sparkling clean, comfy beds, and Mary Jo spoiled us with a kitchen full of breakfast foods and even brought freshly baked scones in the morning! Standing on a secluded two-acre site yet within a short stroll of the pretty town of Castlecomer, Donaguile House, dating from 1839 approx is a stunning example of Victorian style and elegance. The 6 bed house is immaculately presented and features extensive accommodation, including three reception rooms, a large kitchen/breakfast room, a stunning orangery overlooking the rear courtyard and a games room. There is extensive private parking, as well as a charming walled garden and lawns.
Donaguile House is close to 200 years old. It originally formed part of the extensive 'Wandesforde' Estate. It is an example of an upper middle class early Victorian residence and is laid out with master and servant's areas ( sorry no servants anymore!) Guests will enjoy a beautiful period setting with some modern comforts including professional cleaning and laundry. While it is located on the edge of the village Donaguile has a 'country house' feel, being completely surrounded by mature trees. The interior has a calm and elegant charm with soft heritage colours, original artworks on all of the walls and an eclectic mix of antique and contemporary furniture. The interior featured in '25 Beautiful Homes' (UK) and in 'Ireland's Home Interiors and Living' 2018. Donaguile was also featured in the TV show 'Home of the Year' in March 2019. It is a very relaxing space to enjoy time with friends or family yet with lots of activities literally on your doorstep from forest walks, boating, rope climbing, zip-wiring, archery, golf, to a mining museum, cafes, arts and crafts - all set in the beautiful Irish countryside, an hour and a half from Dublin and just 20 minutes drive from the wonderful medieval city of Kilkenny. We open our doors in the summer months for 8-10 weeks and very much look forward to welcoming our guests for our third year in 2020!
Donaguile is set at the edge of the pretty village of Castlecomer. Only a few hundred metres from the house is 'The Discovery Park' which includes a cafe and craft village, forest walks, rope climbing, archery, boating on the lakes and a spectacular zip wire – great fun for both adults and kids of all ages. (pre booking online is recommended). The park is lovely for a walk in the evenings when it's quiet. Castlecomer also boasts a picturesque 18-hole golf course. Horse riding is available locally too. There is a gourmet restaurant, a hotel for a drink, dinner or bar food, 3 pubs, 2 supermarkets which will provide all your grocery needs, 3 lovely cafes for coffee or lunch, (the 'Lime Tree' is also great for dinner. )There are newsagents, 2 pharmacies, a butcher, hairdressers, take-aways, a bank and 2 ATM machines all within 5-7 minutes walk. Restaurant Lady Anne, open at the weekends, is situated in the beautiful old 'Creamery' building once home to Lady Anne Wandesford, Countess of Ormonde is just a 2 min walk away i.e. practically at the end of our drive!! - run by Michelin recommended chef Keith Boyle and his wife Carmel it is a must for foodies. A 5 minute drive takes you to the spectacular Dunmore caves with their Viking remains and a 15-20 minute drive takes you the 12 miles to the beautiful medieval city of Kilkenny, with its stunning castle, numerous historic sites, the Design Centre, a host of quality restaurants, ( 2 with Michelin stars), bars, the best of traditional Irish pubs with live music and 'Craic', cinemas, theatres, galleries, night clubs and shopping. Kilkenny, (20 mins drive ) boasts over 100 eateries from cafes to bar food to Michelin starred fine dining. Durrow Castle, (15 mins drive in the other direction) is excellent for dinner or casual bar food. Kilkenny is a very busy tourist town in the summer and it's a good idea to pre-book the better restaurants in order to be certain of your choice.
  • Better than you can imagine and right in the heart of the town with the felling of seclusion; excellent in every way.

  • Donaguile House is a beautiful country home just a short walk away from the quaint town of Castlecomer. The house itself is lovely. It is beautifully decorated, and it had plenty of space for our group of six adults and five children. The garden was amazing and provided lots of room for our children to run and play. They loved the trampoline. The house is quite centrally located in southern Ireland and provided a great central base for exploring the countryside. We took day trips to Kilkenny, Cashel, and Ballycotton while there. The town of Castlecomer has everything you need on a daily basis with restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, pubs, a local butcher and more within walking distance. There is also a Discovery Park in the town which has great trails for walking or jogging, and it has a lot of great adventure activities for kids of all ages. Jane was a very gracious host. She answered all of our requests very quickly, and she gave us many helpful recommendations while we were there. She put us in touch with Lara from the Castlecomer Riding School, and our family so enjoyed spending time with her ponies and dogs on a ride through the trails in and around the Discovery Park. Jane also recommended Chef Keith of the Lady Anne restaurant in town, and he came to the house and provided us with a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience. He is a truly exceptional chef, and he treated us to a three hour long, eight course fine dining experience unlike any other. He even sourced many of his fresh vegetables from Jane’s walled vegetable garden. To be in the comfort and beauty of Jane’s lovely home while enjoying Michelin star quality dining was the highlight of our trip! We had such a wonderful stay at Donaguile house, and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a holiday home in the Irish countryside.

  • Donaguile House is exactly as the photos portray. It is lovely inside and out; retaining many of the old features and seamlessly incorporating the new. What the photos perhaps don’t quite portray, however, is the full extent of its charm. The house has character, warmth and style. And while it knows it, at no stage is it overwhelming. Much of this is due to the property itself, and the standard to which it has been restored, but so it is down to Jane and John, who have made it homely and welcoming - and Jane’s artwork complements the space throughout. The house has everything one needs for a week’s stay, and more. We were a party of 10 – three generations – and all of us enjoyed the house. It is the perfect setting for a large family gathering, and much planned sightseeing was foregone in favour of enjoying time together in the house. Contact with Jane was easy, quick and always helpful. Additionally, so many little extras - such as fresh flowers on arrival, tweaking of the temperature to suit our group, lit candles in many rooms (we arrived in the evening) - served also to reflect the kindness and generosity of our hosts. Indeed, when we arrived, Jane didn’t simply meet us, but immediately made us feel at home and invited us to settle as we would in our own place. Perhaps that was her only mistake. For when it came time to leave, it was a bit heart-wrenching as we really felt that we belonged there! This is a really lovely property and wonderful hosts. Thank you Jane.

  • This is a wonderful property for family gathering with lots of activities available not only on the property but in the adjacent area. The trampoline and the nearby Outdoor Discovery centre were a big hit with all of us. The pubs, coffee shop and restaurants in the village were great amenities too. Kilkenny and lots of other day trips in the area too.

  • Donaguile House is an incredible manor house situated in a private, garden setting yet is an easy walk into the town of Castlecomer which has everything you need - pubs, groceries, restaurants, butcher. We used the house as a base to explore and happily came home each night to make a fire, sip wine and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. If you appreciatr interior design, history and art this home is a perfect fit. It’s a very warm, welcoming, happy home- which compliments Jane the owner- she couldn’t have been nicer. Thank you

  • What a fantastic, beautiful place to stay. This isn’t just a wonderful, historic period house - above all, it is a wonderful family home which is made to feel as your own by Jane.

  • Prior reviews are incredibly accurate and well written. Our party of 10 adults traveled to Ireland to research the family lineage and celebrate our mother's 85th birthday. The home and location were a highlight of our trip. One day, we walked to Discovery Park, jogged the trails, enjoyed the Miner's Exhibit and Silversmith's shop. Then on the walk home, we had coffee & a bite at the cafe, grocery shopped and picked up a roast at the butcher's. All that in 3.5 hours and no car. Castlecomer is a great little town. In the evening, we all enjoyed the short walk to the pub. We look forward to returning.

  • I can’t say enough about this amazing house! I wish I could give more than just 5 stars. It was absolutely perfect. Jane is an outstanding host- the house it wonderfully decorated and there is not a single detail missed! This house exceeded our expectations, and I truly can’t say enough positive things about this house. There’s a private garden, a huge yard, tons of space for a large group and a perfect cooking kitchen for a group. We had the best time and are ready to book again! It’s close enough to Kilkenny and other towns to explore but so lovely you won’t want to leave too much!

This studio apartment is the pride and joy of Bridie and Martin...a retired couple who have embraced Airbnb with great enthusiasm! The amazing reviews given by the guests speak for themselves! Cullahill is surrounded by wonderful Irish countryside and has several public walkways from leisurely rambles to challenging treks up the nearby hills. It’s a 5 min drive from Castle Durrow (popular wedding destination) and has every comfort imaginable for a fantastic stay. All welcome 😁

  • Myself and my partner had a wedding in Castle Durrow and we were lucky enough to find this charming place close by. Breeda and Martin could not have been more welcoming and had the apartment stocked with beautiful brown brown and breakfast essentials...it was ideal. Really lovely and I would highly recommend it to anyone hoping to stay in the area.

  • It was a pleasure to stay here, communication was excellent prior. On arrival I was welcomed, and they had a fire lit for me, which was a delight—as I’m a wedding photographer; and was shooting a wedding the next day. The place was super clean, and comfortable. Plenty of food and herbal teas also! It went over and beyond my anticipation. Thanks again

  • Breeda and Martin's place was cozy and felt like home! We were able to relax and enjoy the beautiful view.

  • This might be my favourite Airbnb, the apt itself makes you feel right at home, the view is magnificent and the "breakfast" will make you think you're in "Hansel and Gretel".

  • We stayed here as we were attending a wedding nearby in Castle Durrow. We arrived to a lovely cosy log fire, a fully stocked kitchen and fridge (enough to feed an army!) freshly baked bread and chocolate brownies! The bed was very comfy and there were plenty of clean towels. Honestly it was a fantastic stay and Martin even gave us a lift to Castle Durrow. Such lovely hosts and 5 star hospitality. Thanks so much

  • 5 stars all round. This place is ideal for those who are attending a wedding in Castle Durrow. 5 minutes down the road in the next village. Super stay , possibly the best Airbnb we have stayed at for the price and what was available. Upon arrival on a bitter winter's day,the stove was lit. The presses were full with a huge variety of food. The place was spotless and the bed was tremendously comfortable! Cannot fault the accommodation and the two top host's.

  • It was an absolute pleasure to stay at Breeda & Martin's home. We were soo pleasantly surprised with their welcome & how cosy, clean & well stocked the Airbnb was. We will certainly be back, and as hosts ourselves, we been shown how to go the extra mile with our own Airbnb - so thank you for that aswell. Next time we'll make sure we have time to make you a cup of tea! Thanks again for your hospitality & thoughtfulness, the best Airbnb stay we've had to date!

A beautiful rural retreat to get you totally away from stress and strain..surrounded by beautiful scenic walks and bikes available on request. Cottage is enclosed by beautiful landscaped gardens, where hens, dogs, cats, ducks and goats roam free. Guests are greeted with homemade brown bread, free range duck and hen eggs!! Yet, this idyll is located just 15 mins away from wonderful medieval Kilkenny City, and within striking distance of Waterford, Wexford,Birr Castle and its amazing telescope.
Lovely patio area overlooking the wonderful landscaped gardens. Enjoy the goats, dogs, cats, puppy, kittens, ducks and hens as they all intermingle at will around the garden !!Beautiful cottage decorated in cottage style with all essentials supplied. Sky TV included. Please note, while there is a double room ensuite downstairs, upstairs is accessed by a somewhat steep staircase to a dormer style loft.... Children love it but it can be tricky for elderly people.
Wonderful rural retreat, with amazing country walks right outside your door. See the local deer in the woods beside the property. Surrounded by country lanes and byways, making walking a real pleasure.
  • Excellent experience .. every day greeted by friendly dogs .. location also perfect as only 15 mins away from Kilkenny city .. I will certainly seek to return in the summer

  • Fantastic cottage tucked away in the rural backdrop of Kilkenny that is cozy, homely and peaceful. Myself and the girlfriend both felt so rested after our stay, which was very much needed. We'd love to come back again, even just to meet the lovely dogs that greeted us again. Well recommended for a weekend away.

  • We absolutely loved our 3 night stay in this beautiful peaceful cottage. Excellent situation - secluded but only 10 mins from Kilkenny by car. Tastefully furnished as expected but the bonus is being cared for and safeguarded by gorgeous friendly dogs who took us for a walk on our first morning. One even kept guard on our doorstep overnight. Peter and Frances are the best hosts we have ever come across and couldn’t be more helpful. If you are staying in Ireland - this is the place.

    Geoff2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • A delightful Irish country stay. • Very nice little house, you are alone for yourself, you can walk through a beautiful garden, which you share with a few dogs, cats and chickens. The stairs to the upper floor, if you should use the rooms, is however quite steep and narrow, not for dumb-patients!
