Cute, clean private room and bath with one Queen bed that is part of Birchwood Lodge & Farmette, a solar-powered waterview roadside inn accommodation that is more like an agricultural B&B than the other motel, hotel or inns of Camden. Set across the road from Penobscot Bay amid the lush gardens of our farmette.
Camden is a vibrant, gorgeous, storybook town. We are located 2.5 miles north of Camden's downtown harbor district on a pleasant rural residential stretch of Route One, away from the busy downtown scene.

  • Serenity. This place is wonderful. It’s got everything you need for a peaceful retreat. The owners have paid attention to the details here. Great water pressure and it heats up quick! Clean and comfortable beds. The garden out back is a work of art and has obviously been a labor of love. The best part of the trip was the host! Jenny provides us with excellent tips for what to do and what to see. We were recommend a great hike for the evening, a delicious dinner spot, and the best place for grabbing breakfast in the morning. We would and will recommend this place to friends heading to the area.

  • We immediately felt at home and cared for upon meeting Jenny. The room was bright, clean and cozy. We really enjoyed the garden space behind our room. Jenny was so easy to talk to and she took the time to make us feel special. Nicely positioned between Belfast and downtown Camden, this is a wonderful place to stay!!!

  • Great location and exceeded our expectations

    Dan2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Jenny’s space is sparkling clean, much better than I expected. I’ll sure stay here next time, recommend!

    Zheng2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • The Birchwood Lodge and Farmette surpassed all my desire and expectations and is surely one of the best buys around the area. As a single, middle-aged woman, I was looking for something clean, safe, quiet and convenient. The bedroom & bathroom were clean and sparse but still really cozy with a fabulous view from etc window and porch to the bay across the street. The gardens behind re lovely and charming, and I loved the environmentally conscientious everything. The homemade fruit scones and fruit and coffee were the perfect breakfast each morning. I got to use the fridge in the office to keep my leftovers and they were so accommodating about access. Jenny and staff were super friendly and available, but never smothering-- offering fabulous recommendations for short trips around Camden/Rockport- a five minute drive away. I was teaching an online class and needed reliable internet-- but also needed get out for a few hours a day and I found plenty to do in the area on my own. I would recommend and stay here again without hesitation. A home away from home for sure.

Crow’s Nest, our best value small suite, makes up the 3rd floor of the Windward House Inn. It is located up an additional flight of stairs off of the main staircase. It is comprised of two cozy bedrooms, each with its own en-suite. One room is available solely with a queen bed and the other is available in two configurations, a king bed, or two twin beds. (Advance notice is required for the two twin option). These rooms are our best value and are available individually, or combined to accommodate a family of four! There is a skylight in the gabled ceiling, allowing for night time star gazing from bed. The en-suite bathroom has a gabled ceiling and features a small walk-in shower. It is not recommended for guests over 6ft or for those who need some extra room. The Crow’s Nest Suite is named for the perch located atop the mast on a sailing vessel. Sailors would sneak off to this area to escape the discipline of naval life, or to keep lookout over the horizon for enemy ships. Aptly named, it feels like escaping from the whole world in this small cozy Windward House suite. The Crow’s Nest is a favorite among many repeat guests because of its pricing, and proximity to the harbor and town. All guest rooms include a complimentary two course, fresh, made to order, breakfast.

  • We so glad that we stay at Greg and Kathleen’s home. They made our stay so enjoyable and comfy. The room we stay was their daughter’s room, it full of our favorite kids and adults books, I just want to stay in read all day... It’s feels like back to your own Parent’s home: everything are so clean, the tub is hot, beds so comfortable, breakfast are ready every morning. Greg and Kathleen are kind and warm, they make sure we have everything we need and take care of our stomachs every morning with fresh made breakfast, coffee and tea..They so sweet to my little boy, even made nice little bed for him. We will definitely stay again next time we in Cushing and highly recommend for everyone stay. Thank you Greg and Kathleen!!

  • Look no further. You’ve just found the loveliest accommodation in mid-coast Maine! In every direction, there are flower beds with several options for outdoor seating, on a deck, a patio or under a tree. Row upon row of flowers to admire and in the early hours of the day, a gentle mist resting on the horizon. Gregory and Kathleen will welcome you into their home as if you’d been coming for years! They’re gracious host, generous and kind. Gregory made us an omelette one morning, granola with fresh fruit another and huevos rancheros on yet another! We were spoiled... Also, finding Heartfelt Farm is simple and from there to Rockland is only a ten minute drive.

    Emilia2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Gregory and Kathleen both wonderful people. We love getting to know them and the history of how the landscape evolved on the way it is today. It is always a wonderful visit when we stay with them. This is our second time staying with them and we believe we now have our go to spot in Maine. Thank you Gregory and Kathleen for the wonderful hospitality.

The Quarterdeck is a deluxe, 2nd floor king room, with a large private deck and separate entrance from the main Windward House Inn. Located in the back of the property, this very private room boasts floor to ceiling windows with an enormous deck, overlooking Mt. Battie. The high vaulted ceilings add additional natural light with a series of skylights. Other amenities include a gas fireplace, refrigerator, Keurig machine and large Samsung smart TV. The en-suite bathroom features a single person Jacuzzi tub and separate walk-in shower. In nautical terms, the quarterdeck is a raised deck behind the main mast of a sailing ship. Traditionally it was where the captain commanded his vessel and where the ship’s military colors were kept. This led to its use as the main ceremonial and reception area. From relaxing to star gazing, let the Quarterdeck be the focal point of your new England trip. All guest rooms include a complimentary two course, fresh, made to order, breakfast.

Because of the third floor location and front to back design of this room, it is the most spacious of all of our rooms and offers breathtaking views of Penobscot Bay, the nearby state park mountains, and the backyard gardens. Along with a skylight, the bright and airy sunlight during the day and stargazing at night, create the optimum means to enjoy your stay. The king size bed shares considerable space with a reading nook and generous conversation area. Guests will appreciate the private bath with its sizable shower and Jacuzzi tub. But the unmistakable mark of this room is the Juliet balcony for two, overlooking the backyard, the gardens, and the rich, vibrant sunsets. On a ship, the crow’s nest is a perch at the top of the main mast, for the look-out to monitor views of land. If weather prevented visual of land, a crow was let loose from its cage and the ship navigated after it, on its search for land. Doesn’t sound like luxury living, but this room is named such, simply due to its location on the highest level of the building, thus providing the most picturesque views. For Centuries, the chart room was the location of chart storage and reading, as the Captain and crew navigated the seas. Less needed on modern ships, as computerized techniques are used.

The Robin is on the second floor, perching high up under the eaves. It is a writer's dream. Cool and cozy, it is the most private of our rooms and its north-side window makes you feel as if you sit among feathery hemlocks. A desk, hand-carved by Dominika's father from yellow pine he brought back from the Austrian Alps, offers plenty of space for your laptop and we made sure there's a powerstrip for all those other electronic gizmos you might bring along. The Robin also features a comfortable wing chair with a huge hassock and a reading lamp. A large library of "real" books from our private collection can inspire the writer in anyone and will make the reader feel at home. The Robin has a contemporary queen-sized sleigh bed, a large closet and a private, en-suite bathroom with a shower stall.

The Nuthatch looks down onto our gardens from its second floor perch. A charming room with old-fashioned built-ins and wide-pine floors, it's quintessential Maine. It also features a beautiful antique arts and crafts desk and a comfortable chair, especially handy if you want to bring a laptop and use our wireless internet connection. The Nuthatch shares a bathroom with the Chickadee next door. Located right across the hall, the bathroom has a large, walk-in shower and a marvelous skylight right above the sink... makes for perfect bird-watching as you brush your teeth.

Our first floor suite offers a private side entrance which allows for extreme convenience when coming or going from our home. The availability of the mini refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker gives our guests staying here more freedom to enjoy local fare.
  • The historic home is absolutely beautiful. The location is perfect - half a block from town, walkable to everything. We stayed in the apartment with a private entrance, and had the option to eat breakfast in our own sitting area or with guests in the dining room. We take this trip to Maine every year, and will be staying at David and Mariann's place from now on!

Our home is a two minute walk into the heart of Belfast's downtown, filled with restaurants, shops, galleries, the theater, and our harbor. Out our front door, much of the downtown can be seen as it descends to the water of Penobscot Bay. No need to move your car unless you've chosen to adventure out to Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, or maybe hop a ferry to some of the Bay's islands. Belfast sits alongside Route One, making it a sensible site to begin your exploration of Maine's mid-coast.
Our beautiful home is extremely fortunate to be one of the closest airbnbs to Belfast's downtown. You can leave your space, and in five minutes, be shown a table at a local restaurant, or be purchasing a ticket at the Colonial Theater. When you're tired after a day's activity, your bed is just a short walk up from the harbor and downtown.
Our home is located in Belfast's downtown historic neighborhood. The streets are filled with lovingly cared for homes, many of which were built for sea captains and early entrepreneurs. Visitors can easily walk to everything that downtown offers. We also have the Public Library, Congregational Church, Roman Catholic Church, Episcopal Church, Baptist Church, and Universalist Unitarian as close as two properties away. The Methodist Church is just a 5 minute drive across the bridge.
  • David and Mariann are great hosts, and the house is really wonderful. Charlotte the cat is a charmer, and will happily share your room if invited in. We loved the beautiful soft sheets on the beds. Very clean room and private bath. Walking distance to downtown Belfast's amazing restaurants, yet in a quiet neighborhood.

  • A beautiful old house, full of delicious antiques and a decor that combined Victorian and early American pieces quite harmoniously. Loved having access to the living room and TV room, though we didn't end up using them. We actually never saw any other guests who were staying in the house at the same time. Felt like we had it all to ourselves. Our hosts were very accommodating when traffic held us up and we had to arrive much later than planned. The hosts were there when we needed them - and other than that we had a lot of privacy. I loved being so close to downtown! We will definitely plan to stay here again.

    Marsha2017-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic stay. Very clean, on suite bathroom, quiet area. Only a 2 minute walk from downtown and our hosts were lovely. Highly recommended!

  • This beautiful historic home is a perfect location for exploring the beautiful town of Belfast. Also perfect for day trips to points South and north along the coastline. David and Marianne are superb hosts who offer up information when needed but also are extremely respectful of privacy.

  • This is our second time staying at the charming Thomas Pitcher House. David and Mariann are very available to you while still affording privacy. I’m 7mo pregnant but still found the bed super comfortable and my 5yr old was highly entertained by the friendly kitties Charlotte and Oliver. A basic breakfast is provided but the house is a very short walk down the hill to the local diner and other restaurants. The proximity to town is a huge plus while still feeling cozy in a very nice neighborhood. Can’t wait to stay again!

    Maria2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • David and Mariann's place was everything we could have wanted! The room was clean and spacious. The coffee and pastries in the morning were a nice touch. Wish we could have stayed longer!

  • The Pitcher House is a lovely place to stay. Dave was very helpful and friendly, as were the two cats. Our accommodations were exactly as described and it’s an incredibly short walk into town. The continental breakfast laid out in the mornings is a very welcoming touch.

  • David and Mariann’s house is a super short walk into downtown which was perfect vacationing with a four year old. The king bed was really comfortable and black out curtains provided a title extra shut eye. Even though our hosts were away for part of our stay they took special care to ensure we had fresh coffee and breakfast baked goods in the morning. A really nice stay in a stately old home. Would definitely stay again.

Private Queen bedroom with en suite bathroom. Other areas include all outdoor spaces including firepit, front porch and back porch. Guests can also use the living room in the Inn as well as a guest pantry with 24 hour coffee, Twinings Teas and snacks.

The Windrose Suite has a private front porch and entrance, and is located up a private staircase on the 2nd floor of the Windward House Inn. This romantic suite has the feel of an apartment with its cozy front facing sitting room and gas fireplace. The separate bedroom is furnished with a high luxurious queen bed and boasts multiple windows on both sides for cross ventilation. A unique highlight of the Windrose Suite, is its spacious en-suite bathroom. Soak in the old-fashioned claw foot tub, or step into the large walk-in shower depending on your bathing preferences. The Windrose Suite has a unique history. CPT Elijah Glover (1792-1868) was a lumberman and shipbuilder who utilized its sitting room as his office and place of business, when he built the house in the 1850s. It takes its name after the graphic tool used to give a succinct view of how wind speed and direction are typically distributed at a particular location. Before the development of the compass rose, a wind rose was included on maps in order to let the reader know which directions the 8 major winds were blowing. All guest rooms include a complimentary two course, fresh, made to order, breakfast.

The Chart Room is a large two room suite located on the 1st floor of the Windward House Inn. Its large footprint is ideal for longer stays at the Inn and allows you to experience what it would feel like to live in an historic home in Camden, Maine. The sitting room boasts large built-in bookcases and creates a library feel alongside its gas burning fireplace. The sitting room also has a pullout sofa and refrigerator. A unique feature of the Chart Room, is its separate bedroom featuring a luxurious King-sized four-poster bed and private deck overlooking the gardens. The large en-suite bathroom features a single person Jacuzzi tub with shower. The Chart Room Suite is named for the cabin in a sailing vessel that contains the charts and nautical maps. Essential to navigation and of great value, this cabin was typically reserved for officers or perhaps the captain, himself. • Gregory and Kathleen truly open their home and themselves to the guests who stay there. As many other reviewers have noted, the breakfast is incredible! We loved the location of their beautiful home, so close to all of the midcoast Maine attractions we were hoping to visit, but very a quiet environment that makes you feel the opposite of a visitor. We will most definitely be coming back.

    Julie2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • We chose this place based on location. My husbands ancestors originally settled in Cushing in the early 1700’s. It was a perfect fit to stay in a 1700’s era home. Greg and Kathleen have done a beautiful job restoring this home and the grounds are spectacular. If you are looking for an out of the way place, this is it. ‘Quiet’ takes on a whole new meaning. 😊 Very nice breakfast and the hosts are extremely nice and helpful.

  • This is fantastic location for people looking for charming and quiet place. Just Five minutes from Thomaston and a couple of minutes more from Rockland. Kathleen and Gregory are nicest people you can meet. It is so much history at this house and I loved everything about it. In addition iit is surrounded by beautiful garden full of flowers. Definitely will visit it again next year. Margaret, Mississauga, ON

  • My parents stayed here for two nights while attending the Rockland Blues Festival (I booked their reservation as a gift once I got the Ok from Gregory and Kathleen) and they loved it. Great hospitality, and the gardens were gorgeous.

  • This is a special place with a real family feel. Gregory and Kathleen were incredibly welcoming and gracious, even offering us a freshly baked pie on our first evening and letting us take over the kitchen to cook dinner. The kitchen and dining room of this 18th c. farmhouse were cozy, well-stocked, and charming and the garden is stunning! We loved sitting outside in the mornings and enjoying the views. It was also such a pleasure to get to know Gregory and Kathleen and to get a tour of Gregory’s workshop!

My BnB is just a few steps from the harbor and all the fun of downtown Rockland. WALK to harbor, restaurants, museums, and windjammers. Plenty of free parking, great rooms, coffee and tea always available. Light breakfast is sometimes offered. Primo is just down the block for dinner.
Rockland historically, has been a retreat for painters, writers, photographers, cooks and craftsmen. There's something for all creative or adventurous folks here. Restful rooms with private bath and a common area with TV, (free wifi) microwave and small fridge. One block to fabulous restaurants, theater, and Farnsworth Museum. Harbor with ferries and sails.. lobsters abound!
Friendly and stone's throw to Main Street and Harbor Park and all the activities that go on. Food is fabulous in Rockland and Primo is 8/10 of a mile and a pretty easy walk. Cabs are available too, (just in case you overeat or something) Food in town is just great too... can't say enough.
  • Sandy was the perfect host, even making us eggs when the other dish she was serving didn’t fit our diet. So incredibly thoughtful. The place was charming and had a perfect location with walking everywhere as an option. I lavished in a lovely bathtub and slept cozily in a soft and comfy bed. Wonderful other guests made it a sociable and friendly atmosphere. We loved Rockland’s art scene and was so grateful we made the decision to come here. Perfect getaway anniversary weekend.

  • Great location, one block from the water. Really liked Hills restaurant 1 block away and we easily walked into town and to the YMCA, etc. Sandi told us about the local restaurants. The rooms have a lot of charm. There is no air conditioning but we did not need it and didn't even use the window fan even though there was a "heat wave" while we were there. Sandi sets a lovely table and we enjoyed the breakfasts. Also enjoyed sitting/swinging on the porch.

  • We really enjoyed our stay. The house is charming and comfortable and Sandy made us feel right at home. The bed was cozy and my husband and I slept very well. We really enjoyed the delicious breakfast that Sandy prepared and served in the morning and it was nice to chat with other guests at the family style table. • Our stay could simply not have been better. Sandi was so kind from the moment we arrived. She showed us our rooms, chatted with us for a while, and gave us the absolute best dinner recommendation. Her home is beautiful, clean, and spacious. We only spent one night but I would happily return (and plan to!) so that I can pet her sweet dog and sit on her lovely porch swings.
