  • The people of Pacquera are friendly and helpful. We had a challenge connecting with the caretakers but a local guided us there by a first name and picture of the home alone!!

CABIN #5 is end cabin on 2nd floor next to stairs. It has a big closet and office desk drawer comfortable for business trips or longer stays offering Hot water with Full Size bed (NO Kitchenette, NO other furniture). What makes our place unique is the peaceful atmosphere, unless we have the fiestas held just across the street, which most look forward to anyways... The main attraction on our property is the beautiful hummingbirds visiting our feeders located on the bottom floor which you still can see them from above and in reach of mango tree! NOTE: we're NOT beachfront property and appreciate your understanding due to third world issues and remote area we're located, Wi-Fi service is not "always" reliable.
We are in the small town of Paquera of about 2500 people where everybody is friendly and helpful, most use bikes and motorcycles as their main transportation. Not being over populated, nature abounds and greets you right outside your door step.
  • Frank’s place is exactly as advertised. We were thankful for an inexpensive, clean and air conditioned place to stay.

    Teri2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Frank was a great host! The place was clean and had great AC. The front desk gal was super kind and gave us some fruits as well. If I am ever in Paquera again I will be sure to stay here !

  • It's a nice and very clean hostel close to paquera and the ferry. the beds are comfortable, there is a fridge and tv in the room and the wifi is working perfectly. frank's team is really friendly an helpfull ( we even got offered some fresh mangos directly of the tree). I can higly recommend mapi's for a stay in paquera.

  • After long day of travel that end with the last Ferry of the night, Frank's Place was great for a much needed sleep.

    Travis2019-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Frank's place was great - very easy to find, comfortable, reasonable, perfect if you just need a place to sleep after getting the ferry from Punta Arenas! Frank was lovely (almost as lovely as the hummingbirds he's been feeding every day outside of the cabins for many years!) Coffee in the morning was a great plus and very needed for us!

    Phil2019-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We weren't expecting much while in Paquera, but Mapi's was great and ended up being our favourite part of our Costa Rica trip! The property and rooms were very nice and clean, and a quick walk to the main strip with lots of great food options and the Pali. It was also a quick drive to a fantastic beach, lots of activities, and the ferry.

  • A lovely place, the view is great and priceless, it is the most impressive of this place, wake up and see the incredible scenery; to thank Gaetan and his wife for all the attention and hospitality, the advice and recommendations were excellent, I hope to return very soon when Highway 160 is already arranged to visit more beaches and places. The stay in this place was great, one wishes to be here for longer and enjoy the rich pool, the terrors and in general the peace and tranquility of this house. It has everything you need to spend an excellent holiday and very comfortable. 100% recommended!!!

    Alejandro2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the experience, the place is formidable completely accessible, the beaches are just around the corner, very comfortable, we had a great time, many thanks Gaetan !!!

  • My husband and I stayed at this beautiful condo for 34 on our first trip to Costa Rica. The view and secluded location was perfect for what we looking for. We felt like part of the local population and had easy access to the local transit with a 20 minutes ride to the closest town. The best part of the trip were the hosts Gaetan and Aline. They are wonderful hosts and made us feel extra special. We would highly recommend staying at this beautiful condo and hope to be back again.

    Louise2017-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Gaétan and Aline are perfect hosts! If you are traveling to this area, I highly recommend staying here. Their place is clean, spacious, and well-equipped and has an amazing view--in other words perfection. It was hard to leave to go exploring because we could see so many interesting birds from the porch. And the hammock was hard to leave too! They invited us out to dinner with their friends on New Year's Eve which made us feel part of a fun community. They also gave us star fruit and limes from their trees and a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream. Thank you for a wonderful week!

    Leah2017-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had the best two weeks at Gaetan's place. The house is perfect and the view is just magical. Gaetan and his wife were so hospitable and kind. We had a wonderful experience and didn't want to leave. We would stay there again and recommend it to all our friends :)

    Nancy2016-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was excellent, the place, the house, the hosts, everything in general was excellent. Totally satisfied.

    Lizandro2016-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • Gaetan and Aline were amazing! Very gracious and helpful host. There place is amazing. If you are looking for a beautiful relaxed vacation spot - then this is your place. If you like to cook the kitchen is well equipped with all utensils. Great place 5 star!!!!

    Myra2016-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a stunning and tranquil place to call home during your vacation, this is the place to go. This house has an indescribably beautiful view that is worth admiring on a daily basis. The best part of our stay, however, were our hosts. Gaetan and Aline were very welcoming and humble. They invited us to join them and their friends at the town party and Gaetan took my daughter and I on a wonderful hike. We would highly recommend spending time here!

  • Authentic, family-style Costa Rican experience. Diego and Carolina are wonderful hosts and will truly make you feel like a member of their family. They cooked for us delicious local food. The room was cozy, with two beds. But know that this is an authentic place with no air conditioning and a small bathroom. It is very near the Paquera ferry. And just doors away from the fantastic bioluminescent kayak tour offered by Bahia Rica.

    Clint2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • This hidden gem is a remarkable Costa Rican experience! We went to the area to see the bioluminescence and to kayak. Manito’s place is right next to the tour location so no night driving. Lovely welcome from Carolina and a quick dip in the pool to start. Dinner was fantastic! They have an open kitchen and invite guests to just come on back and help yourself to the Comida Tipico. This was the best hospitality of our eight different lodgings on this trip. It’s such a comfortable and relaxing stay. Thanks to Manito, Diego and Carolina!

    Christyn2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Carolina and Diego’s home is unique. It is off the beaten track but close enough to walk to the ferry port at Paquera. We were thrilled to see monkeys and quetzals. The trails in the woods lead to beautiful views over the bay. The fan is adequate in keeping the room cool. Diego is an excellent cook. Pura Vida!

    Liz2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay, Diego was a nice host.

    Spencer2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • What a terrific stay we had! Great location...amazing food....gracious hospitality....very relaxing...loved it all. All the suggestions for things to do were wonderful! Stayed 3 nights and could have stayed longer!!

    Tricia2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • An accommodation nestled in the countryside close to the beach with bioluminescent waters, very warm hosts as there are few, always there to help, good food, in short perfect! I recommend 100%!

    Sarah2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • The place is very cozy, the food good, the only problem for us was that there were no windows and there were only mosquito nets which was not enough for mosquitoes to enter, it takes 4X4 to get there since the descent is complicated by the type of ground and sharp and dangerous curves! Do not hesitate to go to the beach at night and observe bioluminescence, you do not need a tour and it is an incredible experience!

  • Beautiful stay in the middle of nature. With the company of many animals (howler monkeys, armadillo, geckos, birds, hummingbirds ...). Hosts very welcoming and interesting. Superb place, to discover by its atypical side. Thanks again.

  • A very nice hide away in the middle of a wonderful landscape. We loved the silence and Janine‘s and Bernard‘s hospitality (including an awesome breakfast). In dry season no 4x4 car required, but your car should have good ground clearance. Would certainly come back.

    Sebastian2019-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Jeannine and Bernard are really welcoming and authentic, the place was as described. Off the beaten path, an absolutely beautiful place in the countryside. If you are looking for luxury this is not for you, but if you are looking for an authentic place with breathtaking scenery, do not hesitate !! Hearty breakfast with good fresh fruit, we loved it. Montana Grande, Puntarenas, Costa Rica

Beautiful, private villa with a fabulous ocean view and a secluded, infiniti pool. Very popular villa with both honeymooners and retired people. It is a private subdivision with 30 villas with support from rental managers and other staff. The villa is almost equal distant from both Liberia - LIR and San Jose - SJO airports. I believe it is easier to drive south from Liberia airport on a straight, scenic and paved highway 21.
The 3000 square feet villa is on a very private, 2/3 acre lot with ocean and rain forest views. The beautiful swimming pool is partially shaded by a picturesque "Corteza Amarillo" tree. The villa has "Almond Wood" hardwood floors in the living area including bedrooms. The full kitchen has black granite counter tops. All appliances, pots, silverware, china and coffeemaker are included in the kitchen. The gazebo has both gas Bar-B-Q and 4 burner electric cook-top with ocean views. Master bathroom has 2 large bowl sinks, large tub with no water jets, bidet and large windows with a view of the rain forest. The house a large, flat screen TV, amplifier with whole house, surround sound, speaker system. The house has 10 fans and air conditioning. The large master bedroom has a king bed and the second spacious suite has a full bath with two queen beds. The house is on a hill top with wonderful 120 degree views of Nicoya bay and the hilltop location gives one a unique sense of Privacy with no neighbor to look in. The subdivision is 3 miles from the ferry station but it is advisable to rent an SUV so short day trips to Nicoya, Samarra, Carillo, Tambor, Paqueras ( Tortuga island snorkeling ) can be done. Renters have access to a near by grocery and liquor store. The store also provides DVDs and books free of charge. Concierge service is also included. The "Roma del Mar" development has 2 private beaches and a private pier for fishing. There are numerous beaches close by (Playa Blanca 5 kms away) and a golf course at the Tambor Bay. A one time payment of $100 is required for cleaning the villa both before and after the rental. All day maid for cooking is available through the manager and a massage specialist manicurist/ pedicurist available - reservations through management. The internet access via a router in the villa is free. Location Description: Playa Naranjo, Puntarenas, Costa Rica (next to Cabo Blanco on the internet map site), Central America. Fly to Liberia Airport (Code: LIR). Two hours drive from Liberia airport and 5 minute drive from Puntarenas/Playa Naranjo Ferry.
The neighborhood is private, quite and away from busy tourist spots with plenty of things to do in the area. Our rental manager has a long list of optional tours
  • Stay here and plan to stick around the area, because Raj's villa is so shockingly gorgeous that you'll hardly want to leave. (We ended up canceling a 2-day trip inland to the volcano just because we wanted more time at the villa and in the nearby area.) The views from the villa are jaw dropping and it is absolutely the most gorgeous place I've ever stayed by far. I inadvertently became a birder on this trip, the amount of birds to view from the patio was insane -- parrots, pelicans, frigates, and all kinds of other beautiful tropical birds. You'll see iguanas on the roadside and beaches, and definitely hear the howler monkeys if not see them. The villa was very clean, and between Raj (owner) and Noelia (rental manager), we had all the information we needed within reach of a quick text message or email both before and during the trip. Raj's place is really spacious and open, I thought the pool was also bigger than it looked in the photos. Kitchen well stocked and nice cozy linens on the beds and good quality towels. Air conditioning is only in the bedrooms, so staying in the pool on hot afternoons was ideal to stay cool. Definitely follow Raj's instruction to get groceries on your drive from the airport, and rent a 4x4. The local minimart is well stocked with basics, but if you plan to cook much you'll want to hit up the larger stores on the way. The local restaurant Aroma del Mar is also amazingly good, and the beach is a short walk (down a fairly steep hill) or an even shorter drive away. The tours offered by Roma del Mar are top notch (we took the Tortuga Island tour and loved it). You can also enjoy a massage by Anja on the pool deck and drive about an hour to a nearby waterfall that you'll likely have to yourself (Karen Mogenson Reserve). The bang for you buck on Raj's place is incomparable. Thank you Raj and all the staff of Roma del Mar!

    Maureen2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely month in Costa Rica. Such a lovely view! It was hard leave to pool area but we enjoyed hikes around Roma Del Mar daily exploring the beaches. Great restaurant on site and very fun and help neighbors and staff.

    Ann2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • A great villa with fantastic views!! There is everything you could possible need in the villa. Would definitely recommend.

    Darren2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to experience Costa Rica! Clean, well stocked kitchen and modern amenities. The Infinity pool was very nice especially at the end of day. Raj the host and Noelia the property manager were very accommodating, friendly and helpful. We highly recommended this property to anyone who wants more than a hotel stay.

    Wendy2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • You won't find another place as wonderful as this Villa. We were pampered by the hosts. The greatest luxury was swimming in the pool and watching the Pacific in front of you.

    Earl2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • You should stay here. Fantastic space and views, beautifully maintained. Thanks Raj Richard K

    Richard2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Raj was extremely helpful with instructions on getting to the house and even had someone meet us at the ferry to escort us to the home since we arrived at night. We wanted a relaxing home that was more remote and this was the perfect spot! I would recommend arriving during the day and be mindful of the ferry schedule while making your flight arrangements. The home and amenities look exactly like the pictures. We loved sitting by the pool and enjoying the view.

    Brittany2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wow!!!! Its True what everyone says The View is Beyond anything I could have imagined and then some! The House was so well stocked, Towels after towels, every amenity you need in the kitchen. The Furniture all comfy and stylish. Raj was so attentive and helpful with things to do, and see. We hiked the Karen Mogensen Reserve Waterfall and it was truly amazing. The house is very remote and its literally like you're driving into the JurassicPark movie at the entrance of Roma Del Mar, but my teenage sons had a big time and a a great learning experience. This New Jersey Family got a whole new perspective on driving in Costa Rica. I recommend On Airbnb The 10 Hidden Waterfalls with Antonio. If you're up adventure that's the one you want to do. We also did the Bioluminescence with Vigdis and Tom down in Paquera.Very cool. Villa is also real close to the ferry which is helpful to get you over to other experiences. Aroma del Mar delicious food, but was a little disappointed they are no longer serving pizza, as I'd read rave reviews. But the beachfront and kayaking and tire swing also a nice surprise. Jenny was also very helpful and accommodating with anything we might need. But My Mom is already trying to come back by herself she loved it so much..Truly Spectacular Villa!! Check in and out with Noelia was a breeze. Thank You Raj for being a Phenomenal host and sharing this beautiful home. Pura Vida!!! :)

The Karen Mogenson reserve is a unique place rested in the middle of the jungle with beautiful cabins and a newly built research center with access to internet and a works space for researchers. The many trails offer a variety of views even of the ocean if you take the trail called the stairway to heaven to the watch tower. The kitchen is a common area with a local chefs Arnulfo and Mary to cook and help with anything needed on the facility. It truly is an amazing place very pristine and far enough away from the busy tourist attractions. This space still has the culture of Costa Rica. The lodges are powered by 100% solar power as well as the internet and the water comes from the natural mountain spring that starts their in the reserve. Other attractions include hiking to where the three rivers meet, the waterfall (vela de la novia) which is called the brides veil, the watch tower, the small nature school for kids and environmental programs, and the many unique animals to the reserve. Eat the fresh fruits from the trees and herbs from the garden. Enjoy, relax, and adventure.
The easiest way to get to ASEPALECO’s ecolodge is to fly into Liberia and drive two hours to Jicaral, or take local buses that leave from the bus station in Liberia to Nicoya, and then take another bus from Nicoya to Jicaral. From the center of Jicaral, the office is located about two blocks from the main church on the same side of the road. Once you reach the office, transportation can be provided for $20 to get to the small town of San Ramon del Rio Blanco. From there the adventure begins with a 1 hour hike to the Cerro Escondido Ecolodge. It’s important to note that hiking to the ecolodge is the best and most common way to get there. Transportation by car is unavailable during the rainy season, but could be potentially arranged in case of emergencies from December to April. The other option is to fly direct into San Jose. From San Jose, you can choose to rent a car or use public transportation. Either way, you will need to get to the office in Jicaral and then drive or get a taxi for $20 to San Ramon of Rio Blanco. From there, you’ll do the same trek (about 1 hour on foot) through the protected forest to reach the ecolodge. For those who enjoy horseback riding, you can enter the reserve by horse via the Montaña Grande community. For this option, please book ahead of time! You can also take a bus (from San Jose), taxi or direct shuttle (from the airport) to Puntarenas. In the crossing from Puntarenas to the Nicoya Peninsula, you can travel on the comfortable "San Lucas" ferry (Ferry times leave three times daily), from which you will have the opportunity to admire the Gulf of Nicoya´s natural beauty. Upon arrival to Playa Naranjo, buses are available to Jicaral where you can find the office of ASEPALECO to check in before heading to San Ramon del Rio Blanco. To get to Jicaral by bus (for those who would prefer not to take a ferry), you can take a bus from the airport to San Jose, and then a Taxi to Terminal 710. From Terminal 710, you will need to buy a bus ticket to Jicaral (the ride takes about 5 hours). From Jicaral, you can take a taxi to San Ramón del Rio Blanco (15km).

This new 3 bedroom bungalow features an open floor plan and a spacious front veranda. With 948sq.ft. inside there's plenty of room for a large full bath and laundry area near the back door which opens onto a circular concrete patio and fire pit.
This area is just several minutes outside the town of Paquera but both howler and white faced monkeys frequent the property. Over 150 different species of birds including parrots, hummingbirds and cuckoos visit regularly. This new 3 bedroom features an open floor plan with living room, dinette and kitchen all flowing together. A spacious circular patio with a fire pit under the mango tree provides the perfect spot to kick back after a great day at the beach or Los Delfines golf course.
This area is still quite quaint and not really changed by the development in other regions of the country. We are in a rural setting but town is just two minutes away! There are a number of beaches with a 10 to 30 minute drive. An absolute must is the night kayak tours to see the plankton bio luminescene in the Playa organos area.Whether it is a more quiet beach or a busier beach with more tourists and shops, you can choose.
  • This is our second time staying at this fantastic property! We love this area of Costa Rica and the local people are always so welcoming and friendly. The house is very well kept and Michael is a great host helping us with things to do and see in the area. We would highly recommend staying here when in this beautiful part of the country.

    Shauna2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • The house had everything we needed and more.

    Susan2018-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • It was an amazing place. It was very calm and everything is very close to the house. Beaches are close and so are the supermarkets. Michael is a great host and he always responds. The house is very comfortable and it is clean.

    Doris2018-04-04T00:00:00Z
  • Michael's house is really very beautiful and comfortable, it has everything you need to spend quietly. It is near the center of Paquera where one can get everything. Michael very attentive to our needs and his assistant Manuel helped us in what we need. Totally recommended is a place to return.

    Jose Freddy2018-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in Michael's Paquera home. It was a nice, bright, clean and comfortable home base for our party of 5. The house is nicely located just a quick 5 minute drive into the center of town where you have restaurant and grocery store options. We chose Paquera as a place to stay to visit Curu National Park, Isla Tortuga, surrounding beaches, and the highlight was the bioluminescent kayak tour through Bahia Rica Kayak Tours. This house is one of the few lodging options in Paquera that offers AC, and we really enjoyed that amenity as well as having a nice kitchen to cook our meals, hot shower, and having a washing machine was really nice too. Another feature my children enjoyed was the children's TV channel which had non-stop children movies. The washing machine is a semi- automatic washer, which I've never used before, and suddenly made me appreciate the work of a 1950s housewife because you have to manually participate in each washing step-from washing agitation- to rinsing each clothing item and then placing the rinsed wash into the spinning centrifuge before line drying it. There is a nice washing basin in the laundry room, and a long laundry line in the backyard to hang your wash. With the semi-automatic wash, and no dryer, you do have to time manage your laundry but was an appreciable appliance and resource. Michael and his house manager, Manuel, were kind and wonderful hosts, providing excellent and quick communication, offering tips and local resource information, and Manual even arranged babysitting for us to go on the bioluminescent Kayak tour. Wonderful host and home!

    Alyson2018-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • I recommend the house is very nice comfortable clean super well located the managers very attentive we are super happy for sure we will return

    Xiomara2017-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Very good attention from Michael even though we could not meet him personally since he was outside. We were greeted by a very friendly girl who greeted us in everything we needed. The house was very clean and well located, and was very spacious. I recommend it 100%.

    Alejandro2017-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent service. Excellent communication with Mike, he was always aware of my arrival at his house. The house is very clean and cozy. I will definitely return to Paquera!

Our artsy wooden house is perfect for people that enjoy a calm atmosphere away from the main tourist trails. The place, Bahia Rica, is perfect for relaxing in a hammock and enjoying the jungle sounds, or you can go kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling or fishing with us.
Bahía Rica Fishing & Kayak Lodge is at Punta Cuchillo, Paquera on Costa Rica's west coast. We can accommodate up to 10 guests in our artsy wooden house. We are renting out the rooms in the house as a Bed & Breakfast. The house has 3 rooms, and you SHARE a kitchen and the bathroom with other guests. Each room has a double and a single bed. In the biggest room, we can add an extra single bed when needed. We also have a separate small cabin that accommodates 2 persons (you'll find it as a separate AirBnB listing under "Bamboo cabin w/private beach in jungle setting"). Note! It shows as fully booked in the AirBnB calendar even though maybe only one room has been reserved. So if the dates you would like to come don't show up as available, please just contact us to check - we might still have room. Be aware that the guesthouse is based on a hill, and to get down to the beach area and breakfast area you have to walk a LONG stairway (256 steps). So if you have issues walking stairs, this would not be the place for you. Bahía Rica kayak and fishing lodge is based on the properties of La Nicoyana a small private nature reserve. So it is very pristine. At Bahía Rica we live close to the nature and take pride in protecting our surroundings.
Punta Cuchillo is a small non touristy village, but we are conveniently close to the ferry and buses. It is a safe neighbourhood, and you'll get a feel of a typical Costa Rican lifestyle. Since there are very few people living here we still have an abundance of wild life. Prepare yourself to meet monkeys, anteaters, skunks, armadillos, butterflies, bats, parrots and a lot of other wildlife. We also have pets on the property; Bella our dog, 4 cats and some neighbor dogs that likes to hang around here.
  • Vigdis and Thomas couldn’t have been more hospitable. We booked a fishing tour and not only were we able to catch multiple fish but also were able to appreciate the local wildlife and scenery while on the boat. I highly recommend ordering dinner from them, it was delicious and we were able to get a better feel of the local culture through conversations with them. The description down to the dining area is accurate so if you need a guard rail down some of the steep steps, hopefully you have a car to drive down to the lower level. The grounds were breathtaking as well as the native wildlife- butterflies, birds, howler monkeys, a blunt nosed snake, army ants, leaf cutter ants, even a tamandu at night. Vigdis recommendation to the Curu Forest was spot on- we saw deer, capuchin monkeys, coati, an agouti, various birds, basilisks, and iguanas. We arrived on a Saturday and left on Monday, wish we had more time there to experience the area and to partake in their multiple services- kayak and SUP rentals, wildlife and snorkeling tours...Great memories made for all!

  • Lovely Treehouse in the woods with comfortable beds. Especially the bioluminescent kayak tour you can do there was a blast. Thanks again for the great breakfast and hospitality!

    Janine2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Hands down the best airbnb I’ve ever been to. Beautiful location with private beach and in the middle of nature. Very different experience than the other Costa Rican touristy spots. If I’m ever going to Costa Rica again, or if anyone I know that’s going, this stop is a must.

    Arnaud2020-03-10T00:00:00Z

  • Vigdis was so wonderful, and so understanding of the ups and downs when our schedule didn’t exactly go as planned/hoped! She even stayed up a bit later to welcome us personally when we arrived several hours later than anticipated. Her little corner of paradise is so beautiful and peaceful and we would absolutely stay there again!

    Brandy2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay at Bahia Rica lodge. We did the bioluminescent kayaking tour ~highly recommend~right down by their waterfront and stayed at their lodge after. The view of the water from their water front area is absolutely stunning- i think my jaw dropped. The grounds are beautiful and Thomas and Vigdis were friendly and great to talk to you. We also enjoyed talking with the other guests there and having breakfast together there-they offer 4 different types pf breakfast (included in stay). I will remember my experience there fondly and recommend this airbnb to others

    Lindsay2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful hosts, very knowledgeable about the area and have some great contacts for anything you may need

    Joanne2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • I can't say enough about how magical and wondrous Vigdis and Thomas's place is. The lodgings are gorgeous - artistically done with a sense of calm, beauty, and comfort. Lying in a hammock on the deck, looking down the hill you can hear howler monkeys, watch birds and butterflies and see the ocean down below. Breakfast (you have a few choices including Norwegian food!) and the beach are down a flight of 256 steps, but these are not steep and there are many lovely places to stop on the way up or down. We took a night time kayak tour and our guide was such a wise gentle person who shared the beauty of the area including the bio luminescent plankton. A 5 minute walk got us to a lovely restaurant for dinner. Vigdis helped us sort out ferry ride to Puntarenas and gave other practical advice. The location is about as close to the ferry as you can get and, though there is a bit of a steep unpaved hill, we did make it up and down in a small economy car. We would highly recommend this place and wish we'd been able to stay longer!

  • My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at La Perla for a week with our 4 children. The pictures absolutely do not do it justice. The first view out from the house was absolutely breathtaking. My family had a genuinely relaxing time away from all the busy crowded tourist areas. We picked up some groceries on the way in and the on site general store had all we needed from there. The restaurant by the beach was amazing and everything we ordered was delicious. We ate there every day and no one got sick :) The staff and chef were great! The pool is massive and clean. It had early morning and later afternoon shade, a huge bonus in the heat. The rancho became our families go to morning hangout. It was awesome to listen to and watch the many birds and other wildlife from there. The landscaping around the rancho and pool is top notch but still subtle. One night monkeys were behind the house howling away and it was a very wonderful experience. You can tell the home is loved as there is a fascinating piece of decor almost anywhere you look. The 2 cats were welcome company when they visited in the mornings and evenings. The kitchen was very well stocked and there was a ton of towels and such. We would give it more than 5 stars if we could. Thank you Petra and Jens for sharing your home!

Rancho Ricco is nearly 200 acres of some of the most beautiful views in the mountains of the Peninsula Nicoya. At once pastoral and tranquil with its rolling hills, and yet breathtaking in its sweeping views of the Gulf of Nicoya, Isla Chira and the smaller islands surrounding. Every nook and cranny of this ranch offers its own unique landscape and view. Bordered by a vast nature reserve, the property has an abundance of springs and two streams with waterfalls. So abundant is its water supply that the property provides half the water for the entire town. For move reviews, please see Trip Advisor
A remarkably warm, loving, and supportive community in this tiny rural town. Residents are Spanish speaking and appreciate any effort you make to speak a few words in the local language, though we are available to translate. We have rural lifestyle tours and walking tours of healing herbs of the dry forest area.

  • Very immersive costa Rican experience. Was wonderful to decompress and get to know trino who lives next door and gave is all the information we needed. Very close to the beach. I would reccomend getting a car if you want to stay; we ended up hitchhiking around but it's pretty far from paquera or the natural reserves. The house was very clean and beautiful, the garden is so amazing! There are cows, monkeys, lizards, frogs, butterfly's ans some other animals all around!

  • The place is located in a very tiny town named Río Grande de Paquera, about 20 min from the ferry of Playa Naranjo or the Ferry of Paquera. The house is comfortable, but not fancy (beach house), but the room has conditioner, VERY comfortable beds, good sheets and towels. All you see around is nature and a couple of cows, you can hear and see all kinds of birds, monkeys, frogs, etc. The closest beach is Playa Pájaros (300 mts from the house, walking distance), but there are many beautiful beaches around, where you can go snorkeling, fishing or just swim and enjoy the beach. This beaches don´t have waves, so it´s like been in a big salty pool, which I love!!! We hired a boat ride and visited a few of the many islands with beautiful beaches that surround this amazing place, with almost no people around; we went fishing and got a few red pargos that we cooked for dinner last night. If you don´t want to cook, you can visit Las Galeras Bar & Restaurant, (100 mts from the house); they offer costa rican food, my favorite is the delicious ceviche with patacones!! For me and my family (my 8 year old son, my husband and I), this place has something magical, we enjoy nature, adventure & simple things in life, rather than fancy all-inclusive resorts. This place is like a hideout that resembles the old Costa Rica, a place to “disconnect” yourself from the World for a while, with amazing places, nature, wonderful people, and the ocean!!! For sure, I will be back, but hope can stay longer!!! Thank you Alberto and Lily, congratulations, you have such a wonderful place!!!

#2 of 16 NON-Smoking Private Motel Rooms: (NO KITCHEN = NO Silverware or Dishware), VERY TINY POOL 9'x14', Has AC, Hot Water, WiFi, Cable TV, Mini Fridge, Daily Housekeeping, Body Soap & Shampoo, Clean Linen & Towels. BBQ Area having 2 gas burners, sink, electric outlets and picnic tables. A unique attraction on site is the hummingbirds! IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: Guest Resources/House Manual/"DEAR GUEST..."
CABIN #2 is next to end cabin, located on the bottom floor next to laundry, office and pool with Full Size Bed and Twin bed (No Kitchenette). It has a big closet and office desk drawer comfortable for business trips or longer stays offering Hot water (NO other furniture). What makes our place unique is the peaceful atmosphere, unless we have the fiestas held just across the street, which most look forward to anyways... The main attraction on our property is the beautiful hummingbirds visiting our feeders located on the bottom floor which makes this cabin, perfect to watch them! NOTE: we're NOT beachfront property and appreciate your understanding due to third world issues and remote area we're located, that Wi-Fi service is not "always" reliable. EAR PLUGS: if you're a light sleeper we suggest to bring them, you never know when the Fiestas are across the street. We also have truckers coming in the weekdays, they're the lifeline to Paquera, as they bring in merchandise or services needed to the little town but their engines early morning may wake you or when they come in at night. Usually, it's very peaceful but sometimes we have had few comments, that it's noisy and because we're a low end Motel, sound proof construction was not a factor.
We are in the small town of Paquera of about 2500 people where everybody is friendly and helpful, most use bikes and motorcycles as their main transportation. Not being over populated, nature abounds and greets you right outside your door step.
  • I had a great stay at here. The place was a great buy for a great price. Frank was a very personable host!

  • Uncomplicated - super clean - fast Check-in - nice to stay - nothing special but all you need to feel comfortable!

    Julia2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • It is a simple, clean and safe hotel. The location is great for those waiting for the ferry.

    Iván2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • It is a quiet, neat place, with the basics for a passing or holiday accommodation. It is close to the ferry and the Curú Refuge which allows you to visit several beauties in the area. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The pool is like for children since it is small.

  • Unforgettable details, we walked in the area to declare my fiancee, and they did everything necessary and beyond that to make the evening the best, something magical and unforgettable for me and my partner. I thank you too much for a place that goes beyond the special!

    Henry2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • The location is perfect for people who want to spend a day on Paquera. This allowed us to visit the Curru reserve but also to go for a night kayak ride to see the bioluminescence. The manager is responsible for calling us a taxi for us which made our life easier. Little more: the bus that comes from the ferry passes right in front of the hotel we do not risk to miss it.

    Tiphaine2019-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for hosting me :) the room was big and the bed was very comfortable. The proximity to the ferry is good, especially if you want to take the first one in the morning.

    Adam2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • We only stayed here for the night, the place is located close to the ferry (about 3kms) and was super clean. Also really friendly service! Definitely recommend the place :-).

CABIN #14 has 1 Full size bed and 1 Twin Bed on bottom floor with private entry and it's own bathroom it has NO Hot water but what makes this unit unique is that it has a connecting door inside to Cabin #9. Making it comfortable for a total of 5 people (No Kitchenette, so there's no silverware or dishware but if needing any you can ask at the Office to borrow from our personal supply FREE of charge, there's also NO OTHER FURNITURE in the room). Both connecting cabins has their own cable TV and AC units. There's a small desk but NO chairs or other furniture in these units (only a small bar/shelf to hang clothes). What makes our place unique is the peaceful atmosphere, unless we have the fiestas held just across the street, which most look forward to anyways... The main attraction on our property is the beautiful hummingbirds visiting our feeders located on our first building cabins 1-8 that you're free to watch and ask our staff for hand feeders but please return when finished with them! • Franck is very responsive, attentive and clean, functional accommodation close to the ferry! We were there at a village party we loved!

  • Mapi’s Cabins were great for any travelers looking to take a quick one-night pitstop. The place is within walking distance to sodas and restaurants but you will need a 10 minute cab ride to the ferry or any bay if you planned on kayaking. Otherwise, the facility itself is very clean, comfortable and convenient.

  • Really enjoyed my stay at Mapi’s Cabin! It’s clean and the host help me by providing informations about activities in the area. Keep in mind, it’s a little far away from the ferry if you’re walking (5km away) but completely fine by car!

  • This is a very convenient and clean place with a nice restaurant. People who work at this place are very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely book again when visiting this area of Paquera.

  • Accommodation difficult to improve as attention, information, cleanliness, comfort ... excellent place to go. Frank recommended many activities and luckily we listened to him, especially with the nocturnal tour by luminescent waters! 100% recommended place without a doubt.

  • This complex is very convenient to the ferry and town. There are supermarkets within walking distance. A good place to stay either before or after taking the ferry!
