She also sent us msg saying some necklaces had been left behind, and wished us a good trip back!

  • Great place to stay if you are looking for a secluded get away!! I feel so refreshed and recharged from this weekend away with family! Iveth was a fantastic host and showed us around her gorgeous house!!! Thanks so much for letting us stay!

  • We rented this lodge so our extended family could all be together in one house to celebrate Christmas for an entire weekend. We all live in the Kansas City area - so our Christmas celebrations normally consist of 4-5 hours and then everyone scatters to their own homes. This home gave us a place we could all stay together. There were 16 of us ranging in age from 1 - 80. We played games, drank some wine and had a few cocktails, cooked several meals, opened presents and a few of us even went swimming. Everyone had a great time and we are looking forward to doing it again. It was a fabulous place and I would recommend it to anyone. My only regret is that it was winter and a very cold weekend - so we stayed inside most of the time. We would have liked to explore outside a little more because it looks like a great place.

  • This house is amazing! Had my sisters bachelorette here and it was perfect. We all were so comfortable and it was very spacious. Also, Iveth is such an amazing host! So thankful for our time there!

  • Our group consisted of 12 people: 3 couples (ages 32-36) and our 6 children (ages 18mos – 16yrs old). We paid $2,168 (approx. $720 a family) for 3 nights… arrived around 4pm on Friday, May 5th and left at 10am on May 8th. While Iveth, the host, was kind and we made the most of our stay, I can honestly say we would not have paid to stay here had we had the chance to see the property in person before hand. I’ve been many places (cabins and lodges included), but this is the first time I’ve ever written a review. I hate to sound so negative, but I feel like I have to share all the details so future guests can better manage their expectations. I booked this property mainly because of the positive reviews (and the indoor pool), so I hate that we didn’t have the same experience as past guests. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was hoping the property was as great as the description… Overall, the space was much ‘tighter’ than I was expecting. When I asked the host about cost, she replied with “Normally i get groups of20 people. Groups smaller than that, we are pretty much not making anything... it is a huge property krystal”… Her response made me feel 1) slightly bad for booking a ‘smaller’ group and 2) like the house was going to be “huge”. However, I honestly can’t imagine that house accommodating 20 people comfortably. The airbnb listing says that there are 7 bedrooms, but there are really only 5 private bedrooms plus a hot loft with a very narrow staircase (as disclosed) and an office with a small futon and curtain closure. So yes, there are several beds and sleeping areas, but I wouldn’t call all of them ‘bedrooms’ per se. There are 3 bathrooms, all with shower/tubs, but the hot water was an issue with our group, and showers had to be kept short (as disclosed). The master bathroom had a nice tiled shower/tub, but we were told that we couldn’t utilize the ‘rain shower head’ or we’d have to wait 7hours to use water again. I understand that the property runs off of their own solar-powered water and electricity, but I didn’t expect the water to be yellow, the lights to be so dim and the showers to have so many restrictions. The kitchen was also a bit more cramped than I expected… we brought food to cook for 3 families for 4 days and didn’t have anywhere to store the dry food. There was some room in the refrigerator for cold food/drinks, but the pantry was locked so we just kept most of the items cluttered on the counters and used the washer/dryer area (which hadn’t been dusted in a while) for additional food storage. Other than that, the kitchen was well equipped with a double oven and 6 gas burners. The dining area was another tightly packed space. Especially for a home...

Take a step back in time to the early 1900's with style. Lots of beautiful hand carved wood including a gorgeous flowing staircase. Large open spaces provide old world charm with new modern conveniences. Large deck and patio with lots of seating. Only a short walk to Butler's center square where there is dining and a winery.
Keeping with the traditional hardwoods and lace curtains, the Delaware House has lots of charm and warmth. The living room has ample seating and the dining room can seat 10. Just off the dining room is a play room which can be viewed through the French door. Both parents and children can have their own conversations. The kitchen has plenty of space with a large island and gas range and oven.
  • Beautiful home that's well equipped for any family! The bedrooms were comfortable and roomy. We had room for family meals and visits with nice evenings on the deck and patio. The quiet neighborhood let us rest during the stay. The town is friendly and there's a wonderful bakery close by!

  • We were pleasantly surprised to learn that we had an option to stay at the Delaware House in Butler the week after Christmas. Having grown up there, it was a wonderful trip down memory lane to stay in one of the town's historic homes. Joanne has done an amazing job of preserving the beautiful character of the home, and we had everything we could have possibly needed. We hope to stay there again on future visits.

  • We stayed here for the weekend while visiting my family in the area. It was a beautiful property with plenty of space, including a playroom for the kids! We would definitely recommend this place!

  • I, along with 5 others, stayed comfortably in this beautiful home. The wooden floors, beautiful decor, and lovely setting made this place a wonderful getaway with the family. We didn't leave the house, so I can't speak to the local restaurants or shops, but the house is very close to the main town square. I loved staying here (with that claw-foot tub, how could you not want to stay there?)

    Anna2016-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Joanne was an amazing hostess. She gave me a walk through and was helpful with finding a grill for us to use and answering messages promptly. We loved the home and the very comfortable beds. It is beautifully decorated. Our family was having a staycation and there were 8 of us and we enjoyed every moment at The Delaware House.

Hogans' Hay Bale Cottage captures the spirit of a quaint Irish cottage. Located at the edge of the scenic Missouri Ozarks in Vernon County, we are situated on 20 timbered acres approximately an hour and a half South of Kansas City and 20 miles Northeast of Nevada MO. For more information please check hoganshbc.com
The cottage was constructed in 2000 using a unique method of incorporating hay bales (ok technically straw bales) in the exterior walls. The Bale walls are coated with a thick layer of stucco plaster, which provides a well-distributed thermal mass. The combination of insulation and mass provide an excellent platform for passive solar building design for winter and summer.
The best thing about our neighborhood is that there isn't one. Closest neighbor is over a half a mile away which provides relaxed quiet and solitude.
  • We were looking for a quiet and out-of-the-way to spend the night on our way from northwestern Arkansas to Kansas City, and we lucked out with this place. Very attentive hosts (who will even take you on a guided tour of their property) and a nice straw-bale home in a rural setting; it even has a saltwater pool that overlooks the beautiful countryside to the west. We stayed in an adjacent "tiny home" that was well equipped, pet-friendly and private.

Unplug and enjoy nature at a charming and just renovated century old farmhouse with 2 bedrooms (two queen beds and 1 twins), bathroom with tub/shower, full kitchen, living and dining rooms. Stunning views of 100s of acres of virgin prairie.
This is a restored historic farm house located on a paved backroad in Vernon County. This unique spot is a comfortable way to relax and kick back. Get rid of the stress and enjoy the beauty of a Missouri prairie.
By car this home is 30 minutes from Nevada, Mo. and 40 minutes from Ft. Scott, Ks. Museums, small cafes, historic areas and of course this amazing prairie are within an easy walk or short drive. Kansas City is an easy drive on I-49 or 69 Hwy.
  • Bonnie is a splendid host and the experience of staying on the prairie will remain in my memory. Warmth and comfort is well provided and to meet the host is to be envious of anther's life style. The shortness of my stay was my biggest disappointment. Short and sweet. An beautiful place to unwind , write a book, soak in the surroundings, do not hesitate to stay here .

  • It is a beautiful space, well appointed and comfortable. It was super cold while we were there, but we managed to stay warm thanks to Bonnie!

    Raven 2017-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • We cannot say enough good about Ms. Bonnie and her home! She went above and beyond in everything. She was friendly and welcoming, made us feel so welcome. Ms. Bonnie made sure we had homemade treats, cinnamon rolls, coffee and several breakfast options. The home was clean and exactly as pictured. The setting was absolutely gorgeous! She was available if we needed her for anything and was willing to give the history of the farm. It's worth going a little out of the way to stay at Ms. Bonnie's. We left looking forward to returning to visit with Ms. Bonnie again!

    Stephanie2016-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Nice quiet and clean house.

    Fred2017-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • I booked Bonnie's place for a little weekend get away from Kansas City for a friends 30th Birthday. We had the most lovely stay. Honestly, I have no idea why this place doesn't have more reviews. You can definitely tell the time and love Bonnie has put into her home. It had a kitchen for cooking, very clean bathroom and very comfy beds. Out front of the house you can see nothing, but miles of prairie (perfect for watching sunsets). Special added little touch was the tire swing. If you're looking to get back to nature, basics, disconnecting and hitting the reset button this is the place. A conservation area is literally a couple blocks up the road with a little lake too. Bonnie was an excellent host! Very warm and hospitable. She greeted us when we got there and told us a little history about the farm which we absolutely loved. She was so sweet and had left us some wine, coffee, breakfast sandwiches and cinnamon rolls. Totally made our weekend because us girls love to eat and drink. Bonnie offered us a tour the Farmhouse that she lived in. It was so neat to see all the historic items she had collected over the years from the families who had lived on the farm as well and her own family and the house itself (since it was recently listed on the National Historic Registry). She also offered us herbs from her beautiful garden and showed us the Barn. We had an amazing time with Bonnie and she felt like just one of the girls by the end of our stay. I do want everyone to know that us visiting with Bonnie was part of our decision as a group. It was a great decision because there was lots of laughs, but she definitely respected our privacy as well. We did stay in a separate house, but Bonnie is right up the road if you need anything. So if you are looking for a get away with absolute privacy (unplanned or a planned occasion) she will respect that as well. I would absolutely recommend and encourage anyone and everyone to come stay at Bonnie's BNB. Two out of the four girls that went down have already spoken to their loved ones about maybe making a trip down for the weekend. I know I'll be back for sure. :)

    Brittney2016-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Sunsets over the Prairie were amazing - Loved getting time to unplug and relax as there is no wifi here. Soaked up some sun in privacy. Felt welcomed by Bonnie and that she would be available should I need anything. Everything I needed was already there though so that was even better! Would recommend to any friend. :)

    Emily2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Bonnie's small farmhouse is a dream! Located on their beautiful prairie property, the peace and beauty this place had to offer was amazing. The home is equipped with all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay, including a spacious kitchen. We spent most of our time outside in the spectacular weather, playing on the tire swing, climbing trees, star-gazing, and exploring the property. It truly is a small haven and a magical place. Bonnie took such great care of us and carefully curates such a beautiful space for people to enjoy!

    Victoria2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is the most wonderful place!! A small farm house that is expertly rehabbed and decorated. It is way out in the country surrounded by prairie. Bonnie is a wonderful hostess and made a special trip from her house so we could meet her and gave us a brief history of the place. We sat out in the yard drinking our morning coffee with a breeze and the sound of cows and songbirds in the distance. It was most relaxing. I didn't tell Bonnie this, but if I could I would never leave her place!! The beds are comfortable and she had everything we need. She even brought her own crockpot down for me to use. If you are looking for a relaxing weekend or week, her place is the perfect place!!

A gated community that includes, 2 pools, tennis court, 18 hole golf course, beach, gym and beach volleyball! Linn Valley also offers a restaurant at the golf course and Linn Valley Supply, if you forget anything.
  • The Paddleboat Cabin and Linn Valley Lakes is a great get away from Kansas City and you don't have to drive 3 hours to get there! The cabin is very comfortable and much more spacious than the pictures can portray and because it's flanked by undeveloped lots, is very private feeling. You will be staying on a small feeder lake to the main lake, so it's very quiet and peaceful. If you are looking for a very busy, exciting, 5 star resort town complete with "party cove", don't come here - you will be disappointed! If you're good at entertaining yourself, you will love Mike's cabin and find plenty to do: go fishing a few steps away, play a simple round of miniature golf, play a game of basketball or volleyball with your family at the clubhouse or go swimming at the beach on the main lake. Or just relax on the deck with a refreshing drink and "listen"! The cabin is modern, well equipped, and Mike will respond quickly to your needs by text. I can't wait to get back here! Brad R.

  • A group of us wanted to retreat from the city and the space was perfect! The large and open living space/ kitchen was perfect for all of us to be in one space and not feel crowded. The back porch was wonderful to chat over coffee in the morning. And items were labeled which was a great touch. Beautiful space and will cherish the memories spent there.

  • Our family stayed at the cabin over the weekend and we were so impressed with how charming and clean everything was! The owner had quick responses whenever I had a question and was exceptional to communicate with. We were able to fit 12 family members total in the main floor of the cabin, and there was plenty of room to run and play outside for the kids~they especially loved greeting the horses each morning and going on little nature walks. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here relaxing and enjoying the wide open spaces! We hope to return in the future for another weekend getaway to this beautiful, peaceful, and charming home!

  • We rented the smaller room of the cabin for myself and my teen for the sugar mound festival. The cabin was amazing and I loved how everything was decorated and labeled which made it easy to find anything we might need. The location was super convenient and there were more amenities than we had time to take advantage of. Although the power went out from a storm, that was just any opportunity to see how quick and willing they were to help and provide assistance. The only complaint was the dead flies.. they were terrible... like at least 100 that were all over the kitchen at one point. (They had done a bug bomb but it was still actively killing them) At least they were dead bugs and not live ones

  • The Lodge is a great place! The location is scenic and the inside is wonderful. It's warm, comfortable, tastefully decorated, and spotless. I felt like I'd crawled into a Better Homes and Gardens magazine for the night. Kathleen was very prompt with communication, everything went smoothly.

  • Lovely, peaceful place. We really felt away from the world in this charming cottage-- surrounded by much wildlife- deer drinking from the pond, owls hooting, woodpeckers, turtles, butterflies and beautiful fall colors everywhere. It's a special property-- Harold's Lake is especially beautiful and not to miss. We had such a lovely time we somehow forgot to do a wine tasting! Oops. That tells you how much there is to do and explore on the beautiful property though. Sarah and her family were very gracious hosts, we enjoyed meeting and learning about the horses especially. With sincere thanks and hopes to come back!

  • Sarah and her family were amazing! They spent a lot of time with the kids during their horseback riding experience which the kids absolutely loved. They even brought puppies that were just a few days old so that the kids could do some cuddling! Sarah was quick to respond to all questions and work with us to make sure we were happy. The place was definitely quiet and private. Perfect for relaxing. We will definitely come back, especially when it's warmer and we can explore the area more!

  • This place is perfect! Quiet, clean, and beautiful scenery. I had a great stay with Sarah and Brandon, even got to sample some of their tasty wine. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a nature filled getaway!

  • We loved our quick visit to the cottage at Isinglass. It was tucked away, quiet, and surrounded by beautiful nature. Sarah left us well-stocked with muffins, OJ, milk, and coffee, which was a total treat, since the location is a bit of a drive to any location that would carry those essentials. She and her husband welcomed us into the tasting room for a glass of wine, which was welcome when the weather was too rainy for a hike. The bed was comfortable and the cottage feels very private. We had a great stay. Thanks again, Sarah!

  • Isinglass estate is the place to go! Everything in the cottage and conference center was amazing along with the lovely hosts . Sarah and Brandon went above and beyond to accommodate us and it really showed. Thanks

  • Our family had a wonderful experience at the Isinglass Estate Cottage. Sarah and Brandon were awesome hosts, and did everything to make sure our family's mini vacation was perfect. The cottage is beautiful and the surrounding land with its pond, trails, and views were spectacular! We also went horseback riding on a trail that led up to the lake. It was an experience we will never forget. Our hosts even made arrangements so that we could meet the horses the night before the trail ride. Kids loved meeting Mojito; Dead Shot; Lucky; Harley; Joker; and Swagger! Our hosts' daughter, Elizabeth, met us at the barn and took us around to meet their beautiful horses. We really enjoyed listening to Elizabeth tell us the story of each of their horses. In the evenings, our family sat outside, enjoyed an outdoor (gas) fire pit, roasted marshmallows, sang songs and talked. Definitely a relaxing vacation for all of us. Our only regret was that we didn't book a longer stay at this place. Our son, Austin, had this to say after our stay, "I definitely look forward to coming back again!"

Small town cabin get-away located in Mound City, KS established in 2015. Enjoy a clean cabin with all the amenities. Also, outside you can relax around our patio and firepit. Be our guest!
  • Check-in was quick & Doris was so lovely to talk to for a few minutes. First impression of the cabin - all the necessities in a quaint little space. Everything was very clean, with plenty of space to move around. We didn’t utilize the loft since our kids are small but we all slept on the main level comfortably in the bed & a pack n’ play for our baby (which tucked right in by the bed). The TV had lots of channels & the kids enjoyed sitting in the chairs watching some in the evenings. The heat worked wonderfully and the shower was nice & warm (which I loved as a cold natured person in November). We stayed plenty cozy at night. There is a gas station across the street which was convenient for milk or a drink/snack. Our small kids thought it was a great adventure & I loved that it was our own space (vs a hotel). I felt very safe & comfortable with my family. Overall, we had such a great experience and will definitely be back in the future when we visit our local family.

This Queen Suite has a sofa and chair in the living area, full kitchen, dining table, cable TV, iron, wifi, and a separate bedroom. Our facilities also provide covered parking secured entrance elevator lunch served from 11am-2pm Tue-Friday May 19, 1904 the Fraternal Inn Association was formed by the incorporation of the Odd Fellows and Masons to begin the planning for an impeccable vast new hotel in Butler Missouri. The Fraternal Inn had begun to initiate the plans to have a one of the most complete and modern hotels of any town its size in the state. The building cost was projected at 35,000 dollars in 1904 and the architect J.O. Hogg from Kansas City Missouri whose firm occupied offices in the New York Life Building was hired. The hotel and the building itself which is located on the Northwest corner of the square is still one of the architectural delights of Butler. The original design of the building included the kitchen, store rooms, and furnaces in the basement; however a fine dining atmosphere is also present today. The dining area consists of exposed 109 years young red brick from Coffeyville , KS, a wine cellar , stone fireplace, and a lounge that will reminisce that of the old speakeasies. Stroll up the stairs from the basement to the main floor where you will find the main lobby with central court skylights, and fireplace all which now provides guests a café filled with light jazz music, original baroque tile floors, and ambiance of yesterday. Just off the main lobby guests can unwind and enjoy wine, wine tastings, and bourbon tastings. The grand staircase in the lobby proceeds to the second floor that originally had 25 sleeping rooms that were centered around a central court or hall. Today the central court still exists with one and two bedroom furnished suites. The original doors and transom windows still present. The third floor originally devoted to two big lodge rooms with a banquet hall between was used by the Odd Fellows on one side and the Masons the other. The Masons and Odd Fellows occupied the third floor for 76 years. The cornerstone that was laid by the two lodges, the Masons Lodge 254 and the Odd Fellows I.O.O.F 180 dated October 25 1906 with appropriate ceremonies in which two orders working in harmony were responsible for the splendid edifice, which became one of the pride and glories of Butler is present on the east side of the building were a copy of their bylaws and other items still remain. In 1906 the whole building was heated by steam or hot water and lighted by electricity. Some of the original lights still exist today. Interesting historical facts about the building: At the end of 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair the Chicago Wrecking Co. was awarded the contract to dismantle all the buildings. The Chicago Wrecking Co. sold the remnants of rough lumber, windows, plumbing, heating, furniture and numerous other items from the dismantling of the buildings. The rough lumber for the building was purchased from the Chicago Wrecking Co, lumber that once supported grand buildings at one of the greatest World’s Fair. Take a tour of the building where you will venture into the unfinished portion of the basement that proves evident that the lumber was used when you witness notches in large beams that are out of place, and nails that exist for no reason. The Fraternal Inn Association was a group of wealthy businessmen that either belonged to the Masonic lodge or Odd Fellows that raised the financial means to erect this grand building. The Fraternal organization was not specific to Bates County but many Fraternal Organizations formed in the early 1900’s whereas buildings were erected to house more than one Fraternal Society and share the space. In 1902 the Fraternal Associations across the United States were requested to contribute financially to the building of the Fraternal Temple at the 1904 World’s Fair in St Louis. The Fraternal Associations across the United States raised 200,000 dollars and built the Fraternal Temple at the Fair. The Temple displayed to the World all the Fraternal Societies, both men and women and their purpose. Both organizations still exist today in Butler Missouri that contributed to the building of the Temple as well. The construction of the building was performed by the Masons. The architect J.O. Hogg has been noted for his steel reinforced brick buildings. J.O. Hoggs architectural imprint can be seen not only in Butler, but other areas in Kansas City such as buildings in the Crossroads Freight District, and the Kansas City, KS School District. Further, travel to Hannibal, Missouri where he designed the Hannibal Court House, the old police station and jail along with numerous other buildings and homes. The Hotel was one of elaborate and fine accommodations, enough so that Harry S Truman stayed here when he was a senator for Missouri. The silverware was ordered from the Adrian Missouri Jewelry store in 1906 and an original fork inscribed with the words Pennell is on display. The Fraternal Inn Building and/or The Hotel Pennell are located at 100-112 W Ohio and 100-102 N Delaware on the Northwest Corner of the Butler, Mo Square. The construction of the building required 300,000 well pressed red bricks from Coffeyville, KS. The building is a U-Shape Two-part Vertical Block Hotel with a terra-cotta stringcourse running between the first and second stories creating a horizontal plane that clearly separates the first story from the dominant two stories above. The two upper stories are treated exactly the same with no features separating them. They are further defined as a whole by the deep, elaborate geometric-paneled entablature and cornice located above a simple, single projecting brick stringcourse. The building is also a commercial open plan department store that allows for customers to go from area to area. The South Façade includes two large decorative plinth columns with a recessed portico. The main entry door is a large glass English Style door with oversized decorative sidelights that extend across the entire portico. The foundation is rough limestone. The rectangular windows are 1 over 1 double hung window and are single windows on all facades except the south facade second story center which is paired single windows. The rectangular windows all include limestone sills. The corners of the building are of red brick angle quoins that are offset and extending to the top of the building giving it an ornate edge. The frieze along the top of the building is inset with yellow brick banding separating the entablature. A magnificent building worth visiting for the day or stay the night with us where spa services, fine dining, casual dining, wine and bourbon tastings, and a stroll around the Butler square where our picturesque Courthouse is centered. Enjoying shopping, dining and lodging without getting in your car. Lobby is open for lunch Tuesday-Friday 11-2 Upscale Wine & Bourbon Room is located on the First Floor where a variety of drinks are served. Open Tuesday -Saturday 5-12 Laundry Room We are usually on the premises. Located on the Square in Butler Missouri. Shopping and Restaurants within walking distance. • Stayed overnight to ride the Katy Trail from Clinton to Sedalia. Arrived later than planned yet I was warmly welcomed with Sherry wine and ginger snaps, I knew it was going to be a great stay! They kindly stored my bike in their garage and after a brief tour of the beautiful Victorian style home with intricate yet beautiful decor, I was shown my bedroom. Wow, I was blown away. Was not expecting such a grand bathroom, +++. The bedroom was simply decorated with a beautiful quilt, not taking away from the majestic fire place, original to the house. Next morning, breakfast. Let me tell you, there was more food than I could eat and it was all delicious, except for the over toasted toast ;-) but didn't want it anyway, the musli type cereal with fresh berries made up for that and more. Will say my room faced the main road, wasn't a big deal but did wake me up combined with the bright light that comes in the room (bring sleep mask, if you want to sleep in) I'm just not used to road noise, I live in a cul- de sac and I had to be up and early anyway. Cannot wait to come back, it was a great stay and highly recommend it!!! Quick drive to the Katy Trail and within steps of a gas station.

  • Great place! Very nice!

  • This is a great place if you are looking to get away into the country. The property is beautiful and very well maintained. There is a nice lake with trails around most of it and great fishing. We stayed in the cabin that is separate from the main house and it was very cozy. The cabin was very clean and well furnished. Joyce was great and went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. We will definitely be back.

  • What a perfect getaway! We were looking for an easy escape to the country without packing up all our camping gear - We just loaded our puppy (with Joyce's permission, of course), a few books, the camera, and a cooler. The cabin was precisely as described, but the pictures did it little justice, as we found it to be both larger and more inviting. To our surprise, however, the fridge was stocked with water, OJ, and various sundries. Joyce even made sure we had bagels and cream cheese for an easy breakfast.

    Tana2016-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • What can we say? Joyce's cabin was better than described. Such a cute cozy place to stay. She was so kind she invited us to have chili with some friends. We love traveling and meeting new people. And this trip did not disappoint. The cabin was very roomy the bed comfortable and not as all as primitive as cabin in the woods sounds.

    Susan2016-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Joyce was very friendly. We loved the lake and the beautiful scenery. The bed was comfy and there was a serene atmosphere.

  • If you need some time away from the hustle and fast paced life of living in the city , this is a perfect retreat. Quiet , clean and comfortable. A few feet from a beautiful lake and plenty of space to walk and think. I'll definitely be back !

  • Joyce was a wonderful, gracious host! We went for a quiet get-away and it was perfect.

    Marilyn2016-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • If you want a secluded quiet place to relax and unwind, this is the cabin for you! It was very comfortable and home-like. Joyce made sure we had everything we needed - including milk, water bottles, and juice! My husband and I both thought the trip was fantastic and well worth the money!

We are located in the heart of downtown Fort Scott. The original charm and ambiance of the hotel was preserved during restoration. Providing ‘modern’ amenities and services for both business and leisure travelers. Staircase to all rooms upstairs.
The original charm and ambiance of the hotel was preserved during restoration, while at the same time providing ‘modern’ amenities and services for both business and leisure travelers. A large open staircase leads to the guest rooms located on the second floor. Each room is decorated with a splash of historic charm and boasts a private bath. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Courtland Hotel & Spa is the last of the historic hotels in Fort Scott. We are located in the heart of downtown. With-in easy walking distance of multiple restaurants and attractions including the Fort Scott National Historic Site. Historic hotels have been a legacy of downtown Fort Scott Kansas since the mid 1800’s. All but one of the hotels in Ft Scott have been lost to time. However, the Courtland Hotel stands as a testament and reminder of the grandeur of the days past. Built circa 1906, it continues to carry on the Historic Hotels legacy, in downtown Fort Scott. When the Courtland Hotel was one of the new hotels in Ft Scott it had multiple retail businesses inside of it. The businesses included the Adams and Pacific Express Co., Tailor Shop, Q. L. Cooper restaurant, Fort Scott Steam Laundry and the upstairs was used as a Boarding House. Over the years many businesses have come and gone. There was, at different times, everything from a Chiropractors office, an Auto parts store, a Printing business, a Liquor store, multiple named restaurants and even a start-up Accountant that is still in business here in Fort Scott. For the first 50-60 years the Historic Hotel in Fort Scott was “Men Only” Reports from a retired local Policeman claimed that he was called down to the hotel on a number of occasions to “Escort an unruly Female from the building” If the walls could talk… As a benefit to guests seeking to learn about the rich history of Fort Scott Ks and the hotels of Fort Scott we have a small Museum in the now lobby/breakfast space. We have collected a number of old photos and books about and of downtown Fort Scott. These include some images of other hotels in Fort Scott. You can see the Goodlander Hotel that sat on the corner of Wall and National Ave. Also the Wilder House that was built in circa 1862. It is still standing but has been converted into apartments. It is on the corner of Wall and Main St. And of course we are only one (1) city block south of the US National Park Historic site Fort Scott. It is a fully restored 1842 Frontier Post. Oh and by the way the street that is on the east side of the hotel ,Scott Ave, is the Old Military Road that ran north and south along the border of Missouri to protect the Frontier.
The Hotel is located in the downtown area of Fort Scott. It is surrounded by multiple Restaurants, Venus and Historic sites.
  • Frank is a wonderfully thoughtful host. He was even patient and understanding when we ran in to a bit of unforeseen traffic along the way. The hotel is beautifully remodeled with very few minor constructional flaws (imperfections my husband declares, "only [I] would notice"). The location is absolutely perfect. Although it resides within (a not-so-thin couples') walking distance to shops, eateries, museums, and other sight seeing landmarks; it's not at all rambunctious. It was just our cup of tea and the history loving hubbster is already trying to find ways we could one day stay again. Definitely stay a spell if you have the opportunity.

Three historic Mansions, Victorian bungalow, classic downtown furnished apartments all in a charming, historic Kansas community. Featuring accommodations and pricing to suit any need, we offer nightly, weekly, and monthly rental. Complimentary breakfast, in our restaurant Nate's Place, with all nightly rentals.
  • This was my first airbnb experience, and it was fantastic. In fact, though I have other more geographically convenient options, I plan to return here before going back home to California. Miss Pat was very friendly, accommodating, professional, and communicative. Those who stay here experience a unique classiness that is both historic and modern. I look forward to staying again.

There is plenty of room to stretch out. The kitchenette is equipped with a coffee cart, microwave, fridge, 2 burner cook top, and electric skillet. The bedroom has a queen bed. There is a queen bed and queen sofa bed in the common room. We also have a roll away full sized bed if needed. It is stored so, please let us know when you make your reservation if it is required. All linens are provided.
The country setting is peaceful and quiet. You are more likely to see deer or turkey than a neighbor.
  • Very nice place to stay, nice people and enjoyed the farm fresh eggs and homemade muffins-definitely recommend it to others

  • Great space, very open and kid friendly. The tub looks relaxing, but make sure you only fill the tub (don't shower before) or you'll run out of hot water ): Would definitely book again if down that way. Friendly host and good response time. Check with host though, cuz (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps sends you to the wrong location. It's nice and secluded - but that means no Wi-Fi, so make sure you have cell signal so you can get there. (:

  • Not sure what was more charming, The Nest or Kim's family. I will say that the pictures of the space don't do it justice! It is quite charming and more than spacious for our 6. It is definitely a family friendly space. If you are visiting a Cottey woman, this is the space for you! 10 scenic minutes from the Nest to Cottey! This will be my go to place when visiting my Cottey daughter!

  • Shane and Kimberly are lovely hosts and The Nest was a welcome retreat for a fun fishing weekend. The goodies they provided were delicious and the entire family is so warm and friendly. Look forward to a return visit soon.

  • Kimberly and Shane were lovely hosts. Their home is located in a beautiful country woods nearby my daughter's college. It was so refreshing and cozy. The Nest slept four of us comfortably and the surrounding nature was therapuetic. I would love to return for another visit someday.

  • Kim and Shane were wonderful hosts and their hideaway is quite, comfortable and relaxing. We stayed with them two nights while we moved our Daughter into college. The private apartment above their separate four car garage is homey and comfortable. The place has everything you would want, comfortable beds with beautiful handmade quilts, snacks, homemade treats, DVD player, private deck,a sweet kitty and friendly ducks. We recommend their place and I know we will be back! Joe and Allison

    Allison2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at The Nest. We were there for our son's baseball, and it was a perfect place to relax and rest. It was a little bit of a drive since we were playing in Ft. Scott, but it wasn't too bad. We were pleasantly surprised with fresh eggs, milk, and sausage from their own meat business. The Niestraths were warm and welcoming hosts. It was a much nicer stay than many members of our team had in a local hotel/motel. This was our first time to use Airbnb, and it was a very pleasant beginning to our experience. :)

Great family vacation whether you are on a roadtrip just passing thru or spending a week with the family in Louisburg or. Kansas City.
Built in the 1890's, the farmhouse has gone though may transformations. The original structure still stands, but has been added on over the years. For instance, the upstairs bedrooms used to be the attic space. Plumbing was added in the 50's, so no use for the out house or well any more! Sharon's grand father, Pappy, bought the home in 1947. It was a dairy farm then. Now Sharon enjoys sitting on the wrap around poach, or making preserves from the pear tree.
