  • Yet another amazing visit to the cabin! Cathy and her husband are very accommodating and friendly. This was our second time going and hopefully there will be many more.

    Sarah2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Cathy and Walker are the friendliest hosts you could ever hope to stay with. Their farm really feels like a home away from home -- while the little cabin is without power and water, their own log home is just up the hill and the door is always open (warm showers included). They supplied us with firewood for the stove, water for drinking, and even a surprise delivery of toys for our kids. They made sure that we were comfortable throughout our (URL HIDDEN) was great. Hoping to come back again in the winter to stay in their rustic rural cabin when it's covered in snow.

    Erin & Will2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • we had a lovely stay at Cathy and Walker's place, as always. Love the cabin, the view of the fields, and the neighbour dog who came to visit the kids. Highly recommend it.

  • Cathy and her family are really friendly, warm hosts. They made us feel right at home. The cottage is exactly how it's described. It's rustic however everything you need to cook, stay warm and have light is provided. Plus the option of shower and an actual toilet are available only a minute away. There is a fire pit with firewood provided, a BBQ, extra blankets and lots of candlelit optins. Added bonus the farm is beautiful

    Mia2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, quiet and scenic. Cathy and Walker are great hosts. 5stars.

    Chanpreet2017-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Both the log house and the cabin are beautiful. Cathy and Walker warmly welcomed us and also proposed to stay in the house if the cabin wasn't comfortable enough. The cabin is 2-3 minutes away from the house, in the woods, nestled between a rocky headland and a huge field, extremely quiet. Oil lamps and candles give a nice atmosphere. The cabin is fully equipped. One can use the bathrooms of the house and aou portable toilet near the cabin (you'll never find anywhere else such a view while on the throne...). We had a great stay, thanks again!

There were also some fireplaces for bbq right beside the lake, so you could prepare the food while enjoying the amazing lake view. LOL. If you are looking to explore the Ottawa Valley or the City of Ottawa, Renfrew is the perfect place to establish your base. Furthermore, if you decide to stay in Renfrew then we invite you to take advantage of our hospitality.
Our home is known to previous generations as 'The Carswell House' and is located on a five acre lot overlooking the Town of Renfrew. A one hour drive to the east will get you to Ottawa or heading west will take you to Algonquin Park. Historically, this house has played a major role in the town's early development. The horse drawn wagons or sleighs congregated at the gates to the property on Opeongo Road and James Carswell was said to lead the annual procession into the interior of the county. In addition, local legend has it that Robertson Davies in his book 'What's Bred in the Bone' (1985), used this landmark house on the hill as a setting for some aspects of the story. In honouring it's special place and history within Renfrew, this property has been carefully re-stored to yield some of the experience of 19th century living with tastefully added up-dates to ensure a wonderful visit. West Bedroom: Comes with a double-sized bed and a west view looking into the courtyard. This room also has a ten foot ceiling with lots of light that reflects off the original pine floor. Please note that in order to maintain the historical character of this room, the washrooms are shared with the other guestroom. However the toilet is located in a separate room from the shower, 6 foot claw foot tub and marble sink area. This was good planning then and it still works today. Enjoy using the original fixtures dated 1890.
Our home is located in a quiet neighbourhood within the Town of Renfrew. Our large lot affords a country setting and is a five minute walk to the main street. Mat-Te-Way Park has beautiful walking trails and recreational areas that can be accessed from our back yard. Check out our historic O'Brien Theatre on Renfrew's attractive main street along with restaurants, pubs and many stores.
  • Linda and David were a blast to hang around with. Not only kind and generous hosts, but a lot of fun to talk to. Although my fiancé and I were just in town for one night, they had a lot of knowledge of the area and what there was to do. One of the most pleasant experiences I've had traveling was with these two for sure. Highly recommended if in the area!

    Sasha2017-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place and great company. We had a good dart game and conversation with David and Linda who are both very welcoming hosts. The house is everything they say it is and has all you need. We would definitely come back in the future and will keep in touch with Linda and David.

    Beth2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Dave and Linda's home is wonderful. I explained to Dave upon our arrival that I liked that the house and it's settings were exactly what I expected and that we {My fiancee and I} were very delighted. Another mentions is Chico their pet dog who greeted us after we parked. He was such a good boy and took careful watch over the property into the wee hours of the night to make sure his tenants were always safe One thing I have learned and observed in life is that you cannot fake being genuine. Dave and Linda are 2 people in my book I would consider very genuine and accommodating. They asked what our proffered time of breakfast was. The home was very clean and very well organized and we felt our privacy was never invaded. The Home is very stunning and very well kept. I always like to talk shop if someone is willing and Dave certainly was. We talked about each others past and I could instantly tell that Dave was an accomplished man with many great experiences. I asked him what advice he would give to a young business owner. He replied with a few things that will stick with me for a long time. As we sat in Dave's kitchen eating strudel and drinking coffee I began to hope that in 30 years I could give someone similar advice whilst they eat strudel and coffee in my kitchen. I know that may sound novel but it is so rare to have one of those tangible experiences where you get to connect with someone and know that they truly care. Out of the many reviews I have written over the years, Dave and Linda deserve my highest praises. The room was great, the experience was great and the company {including Chico} was even better. I would not hesitiate to go back to Dave and Linda's home again and would recommend to friends and family Thank you for a wonderful time Chris and Christina

  • Linda and David have put so much love and work into maintaining and the upkeep of this beautiful house, and it shows in the overall grandness of the space down to the smallest details. Immaculate + full of character. Linda and David are generous, welcoming and lovely people. Despite only staying for one night, we were made to feel like guests in their home even taking the time to prepare breakfast... (so so sorry to dine and dash) Would 100% recommend this place to anyone wishing for a quiet retreat in lovely surroundings. Thank you both so much

  • Wonderful people, welcoming and helpful that we give much desired a place to sleep last minute. Very nice old house allowing us to have a nice room with a good bed and bathroom. The whole house was open and we visited! Thank you.

  • The hosts made me feel welcome from the moment they greeted me in front of their home. The photos and description is also very accurate. I enjoyed my stay at this location and the company the hosts provided during my stay. It's a good way to learn some of the local history. This location is a more interesting alternative to local motels and would visit the place again in future.

    Stan2016-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Linda and Dave are fabulous people and hosts! I'd stay in their wonderful home again in a heartbeat. Our time at their home was brief but lovely, everything we needed in beautiful surroundings.

  • Tama was very helpful and responded back to me promptly (thru text message). The Library Guest House looks exactly how it is in the picture. It was huge and had enough space for everybody. It had 8 bedrooms and 1 den connected to one of the bedrooms that had a twin bed in it. Not to mention, all the beds were very comfy! There was also an entertainment room upstairs that we were able to use as a bedroom and we were able to fit 2 queen air beds. Kitchen & kitchenette were both fully equipped and had everything we needed for cooking. There was a grill right outside the kitchen which works perfectly but could use a little cleaning. The barrel sauna was perfect for night time use as it got a little chilly. As for the hot tub we had trouble using it due to small electrical issues, but we were able to figure it out and was able to use it on our first night. It certainly wasn't a deal breaker for us. The area was very nice and neighbours were friendly! There was a beach about 8 minutes away. There were convenience stores about 2-4 minutes away. There was also a hiking trail in the area. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay and would certainly recommend this place!

  • Beautiful and quiet location. The house is huge and can accommodate a large group. We rented it for a family get together and we had plenty of space.

  • The house is spacious and good size. One of the bathroom door hinges is broken and falls off. Kitchen utensils are not clean to use. Water pressure are low from the two bathroom upstairs.

  • Upon arrive Chris stopped by to see if we needed anything. He was a great help and brought back fire wood. He also let us know things to do while staying in calabogie for the weekend. Overall a great experience staying at The Library house.

    Andrew2016-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the Library. We booked the weekend so we could ski at Calobogie Peaks. This was an ideal location as it was only five minutes from the ski hill. We were three families, a total of 12 people, and the house had ample room for us. There were eight bedrooms plus a den(which had a single bed ). All the beds were extremely comfortable. Tama was very easy to contact and quick to respond if we had any questions. We would definitely book here again.

    Kim2016-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Loved everything about Tamas place. The location was quiet and very convenient, as it was close to the lcbo and the local brewery which my group loved. Also, you'll enjoy the atmosphere of this small town and it's close proximity to Calabogie Lake. We were also able to use the basketball court and small park located behind the house, and these were attached to an elementary school. This was not concerning because the kids were off school for the summer. The hot tub, BBQ, fireplace, and sauna were working efficiently. The sound system in the house was not an issue. For iPhone 6 & up users, there is a single cord you can attach which works fine, as the docking system is not suitable for older iphone versions. This place was definitely the perfect spot for large groups. For any concerns the group had, Tama was able to respond immediately and helped to solve problems efficiently.

  • Craig's place was truly amazing. Extremely clean and well kept. Access to all amenities inside and out were appreciated. We really enjoyed the periodic check-ins from Craig to ensure our stay was great and if there was anything that was needed. Craig offered tips on where to fish along with recommendations on places to eat. We drove up from London Ontario to get to Renfrew, but after staying here and really enjoying the place and lake, we're considering visiting again. Thanks again Craig for allowing us to stay the weekend!

  • Craigs place was very clean and a comfortable space to share with family or friends. 10min drive to Calabogie Peaks. Craig was easy to communicate with and check in/out was the easiest ever! (I really appreciate that). The sofabed isn't the best, but the amazing fresh air will make your sleep dreamy anyway. Would definitely recommend and stay again, Thanks!

  • Craig is a great guy. Made everything easy and smooth. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend his place. The kids loved swimming and fishing off the dock, bonfires at night and we loved the relaxed vibe of the area.

  • Jacqui and Justin were so friendly and accommodating, checking in regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. Our 20 month old loved the cottage just as much as we did. Our favourite part was by far the private beach with fire pit. This is a beautiful vacation spot and they thought of all the little details. We look forward to visiting again :)

    Jessica2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • one word to explain it all WOW!! The grounds and area are amazing. The home is gorgeous. Everything is kept uptodate and CLEAN. 6 adults were comfortable with lots of room to spare. Jacqui responded to all of our questions immediately. Plenty of bottled water for us. Plenty of board games and movies for all ages. And a beautiful fireplace that we all loved and lounged around at night time. The house was well lit inside and out. Only tricky part is finding the entrance into the property. This is a must stay place. Great for families and children. Thanks again. We loved it.

  • This cottage was perfect for our family vacation! We went with 2 children (2 and 5) and the set up was great! The home had everything we neede and more, and the private beach was clean, had a gazebo and low water for about 50ft which was perfect for our two littles! BBQ, screened in porch, gazebo by the beach, what more could you ask for! It's was so comfortable and relaxing, we didn't want to leave!!!

  • My girlfriend and I had a great stay in the Country Tower. Jennifer was a great host and provided some special treats for us when we arrived. The place was very clean and well-equipped. I would highly recommend staying there. Also, if you stay there on a clear night, you should look up at the sky, there are a lot more stars than you can see in the city.

South Bedroom: Comes with a queen-sized four poster oak bed with an electric fireplace. Beautiful views through handsome restored French windows to the south and west allow for ample natural light which compliments the venetian plaster on the ten foot high walls. Please note that in order to maintain the historical character of this room, the washrooms are shared with the other guestroom. However the toilet is located in a separate room from the shower, 6 foot clawfoot tub and marble sink area.
  • We loved our stay at Linda’s and David’s beautiful house. They are a warm and loving couple who go the extra mile to ensure your stay is comfortable. Linda gave us a tour of the house drawing our attention to details that we may have overlooked. There were fresh flowers and fruit kept in our room which we loved. We enjoyed conversing with them and lost track of time. The breakfast provided was really nice. Would recommend them to anyone planning to stay over at Renfrew

  • Wonderful property, lovely people. We would absolutely stay with Linda and David again. Can't say enough positive!

    Karen2016-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • We were 2 nights at Dave's and Linda's house. It's an old and big house, which is over 100 years old. We loved it very much! First we wanted to stay only one night, but we took one more night to learn more about this lovely couple! There have a lot of space and rooms. So sometimes in the first night, i didn't find the bathroom, because i didn't know the right way. Also Dave and Linda helped us a lot to plan our activities for the day. That was very nice! So you will have a great time there!

  • Awesome experience.

    Ronak2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had the absolute best time here. Stayed for one night with David and Linda and our stay couldn't have been better! The house looks amazing, David and Linda were the kindest, could tell us a lot about there home and even got to know them a little better over some glasses of wine! Would recommend anyone to stay here as this is what AirBNB is all about!

    Amber2017-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Sometimes you hit the jackpot and remember what AirBnB is about. Linda and Dave were wonderful hosts. Dave and I had a terrific evening solving the problems of the world over a glass of cold Guiness. If only we were King!! And the house is magnificent! I was thrilled to stay in such a lovely room in such a stately house who's bones spoke of a time when Canada could still be considered a young country full of promise. I hope to come back to Renfrew soon so I can see my country again through the eyes of those who built it 150 years ago and Dave and I can complete our noble work.
