Just booked in Bristol

This comfortable townhouse is a 2 minute walk to the Nick Smith Center with arena and pool. The area is quiet, country living. Enjoy full use of kitchen and outdoor areas.
Close to hwy 417 and within walking distance to a few of really nice restaurants. Two rivers run through this town. Lots of water, parks and scenery. There is a TV in your room with satellite and wifi as well, there is a desk.
Arnprior is a country town with a population of 10,500 folks. It settles in the cross roads of two rivers, the Madawaska and the Ottawa Rivers. LOTS of beautiful parks, river walk ways, some of the oldest trees in Ontario, close to hiking. Arnprior has some beautiful shops and a couple of really nice restaurants, pubs and patios and even a piano bar! Some nice clothing and gift shops as well. We love it here.
  • The place is on an en a street with a great view Natalie was very inviting and friendly. Beautiful place.

  • Natalie and Pete allowed us to check in late, and we were greeted by a well-lit and spotlessly clean home. We were very comfortable in the large room, felt welcomed, and enjoyed our brief stay. Communication was prompt and efficient. We hope to be back!

  • I stayed with Natalie and Pete on my way through town on a motorcycle trip. I had to book last minute die to having bad wifi the previous night, so I was not sure what to expect. Natalie and Pete were very welcoming despite my late arrival, and even shared their dinner with me, and made great conversation. The next morning, after a great night sleep in a comfortable bad, and a very clean room, they sent me off with breakfast as well. I cannot thank them enough for their hospitality... they made me feel at home!! Great people, great room, highly recommended, would stay agin with them if I'm passing through that area......thanks again guys!!

  • Tom was nice, he even brought us tomatoes. The location was perfect and quiet, but the cabin is in dire need of some work by a skilled carpenter. A fully functional stove or BBQ would be appreciated, but we made due for a few days. Biggest issue was running out of water. Not sure why but the pump seemed to give out on the last night or early morning. No drinking water, so bring your own!

    Michelle2016-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Toms peaceful cabin was exactly that! My brother and I had just driven for ten hours and wanted to relax and thats just what we did! Taking the canoe out on the lake and sitting by the fire was just what we needed. Definitely the best stay on our road trip

    Joshua2016-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing and beautiful rustic cabin, right on the water. Tom was a kind and attentive host, who brought us propane promptly when needed. We went canoeing and fishing, and Tom generously let us pick delicious chard and kale from his garden. A totally dreamy place.

    Michaela2016-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Tom is a great person and we loved our stay in Bristol in the river where we could go canoeing and we wander from island to island! We enjoyed his humor and kindness and we recommend all travelers to spend few days in this little paradise !!! Tom also produces delicious vegetables a few steps from the house and we recommend all greedy to cook in the fireplace, drinking a good glass of wine and laughing about everything and nothing! thank you very much for this sharing of ideas, values and human experience!

    Célia2015-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Tom was a great host! The place was beautiful and exactly as described. It was so wonderful to be able to enjoy nature at such a lovely place. Tom was very responsive and helpful. We would super recommend this amazing cabin.

    Rachel2016-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • If youre looking for a quiet and scenic place to get away, look no further. Tom's property is absolutely gorgeous, waking up by the river in the morning is the best feeling. The canoes were a fantastic touch, we really enjoyed them. The hosts were easy to get ahold of and super friendly, and kindly accomodated us with a late check-out. Thanks so much again!

    Carrie2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to be off the grid. We wanted an experience as close to camping as possible, while giving us some flexibility with a very small baby. This hit the nail on the head. Very rustic but easy to cook and clean up. The cabin was spacious enough to enjoy ourselves despite the rainy weather. Beautiful part of the Ottawa River.

    Jillian2017-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Tom's cabin on the river! We had a long weekend and planned on camping at a provincial park, but when all campsites were booked, we contacted Tom...and we're so glad we did. The cabin is definitely nothing fancy, but if you're looking for something a little off the grid, peaceful and surrounded by nature, this is perfect. The area is very private, and we loved having the canoe there to take out onto the river. Tom was a friendly and very down to earth host. We'll be back for sure!

Hi, This listing is now moved to Transcendental Cottage Riverboat under Tom Towle because I have moved to the city. This listing will still be active so you can enjoy the reviews but you must book at Tom's site. Tom is my dad and lives on the property so it makes more sense for him to list it as he is a great host (check out the Peaceful Cabin and Solar Powered Cottage for all the great reviews). It has been fun creating and hosting the Transcendental Cottage but it is time that I focused more on my city Airbnb. This site is now blocked for futrure bookings after September 3 2017 but will remain here so folks can read reviews of the space. But you can book at the Transcendental Cottage Riverboat listing, Nothing has changed, well actually a lot of the pictures and space have improved with the addition of a loft space and more updated photos. It has been a blast and drop me a line if you need more info. Amy ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Enjoy a rustic off-the-grid solar powered 48 foot house boat converted to a cottage Take our canoe for a paddle on the lovely river, grill on the outdoor firepit and gaze at a zillion stars in the clear night sky. Let the the rustic beauty of our bay with waves lapping at the sandy beach and tree lined shoreline relax and rejuvenate you and your loved ones. Sunrises and sunsets on the river are gorgeous! Pets *(dogs* only)- $12.00 per day payment arranged before arrival only.A 48 ft off the grid houseboat converted to a cozy cottage! And on the Ottawa River by a serene and peaceful secluded bay. Sleeps 2-4 people. You’ll love my place because of the views, the location, and the ambiance. Good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets). Pets: dogs are allowed but you must talk to me about them first and you must arrange for payment before you arrive as AirBnb does't have a feature to allow payment for pets yet. Good dogs are allowed but must have a leash if needed and of course you must clean up any doogy doodoo and please keep them off the furniture. Each dog is $12 a day We have basic cooking/grilling equipment, firewood supplied but you cut. Access to canoe, kayak, paddle boat, a little sandy beach, a fire pit, picnic table, solar lighting, two burner propane stove, sink with washing water. We recommend bringing your preferred drinking water. There is a cooler provided for your refrigerated items. Private outdoor composting toilet is exclusive to the houseboat and inside has a change/powder room. Visit the organic gardening operation on the property or just take a hike or paddle on the river. I am at the property on the weekends with my 2.5 year old son Liam as I work in the city during the week, but my parents are there to host. Tom, my dad lives on the property and is the gardener who runs Zero Carbon Garden which is dedicated to growing organic vegetables for local consumption. Karen my mom is there often too and both love to talk if you have the time but they are very busy so sometimes you might to talk to them while they weed or do many of the things that need doing around the farm. If you wish to lend a hand that would be nice and I am sure you will get a nice taste of the garden and some flowers! Note: Dogs = each $10.00 per day Text before hand please My dad also makes amazing maple syrup at our sugar bush and if you are there in the spring you can taste the syrup right off the pan! He has syrup and vegetables for sale often at the farmer's markets in the area. The Pontiac region is huge untamed and wonderful. Biking, hiking, white water rafting and just enjoying the pristine countryside. Our laneway is very long so don't be discouraged by it. It is worth the drive. We now have local artist Ruby Ewen showing her paintings in our places. emotional feel of her subject matter.
There are a couple of stores that provide ice, beer and food: one is Johanne's ValuMart in Shawville PQ and the other is Henderson's store in Norway Bay. Both places carry our vegetables and maple syrup. In the summer my dad has a vegetable cart at the side of the road across from the barn where you pay on the honor system.
  • My friends and I had a great time in the houseboat. It is a wonderfull location and Tom and Amy were perfect hosts, thanks again!

    Johana2016-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • It's a very quiet, peaceful and unique place.

  • Had a wonderful stay at the house boat. The host were really nice, the weather was beautiful and we had a lot of fun. We highly recommend staying here with Amy. The place is really wonderful and quiet.

    Fabian2016-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great time. We're city folk so to experience something completely different was pretty cool. We had some issues with figuring out the amenities, but it all worked out in the end and Amy was extremely helpful and responsive. Overall it was a great time! :)

    Shruti2016-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • My son and I spent three night at Amy's houseboat and we loved it. It was just as pictured. The boat was cozy with lots of personality. We sat around the fire and listened to the geese cackle overhead as they flew across the river. We didn't get to meet Amy but her dad Tom was an amazing, generous host. A highlight of our stay was dinner and music with Tom and his friend Aaron. The supplies available in Shawville are basic. Talk to Tom if you want fresh veg, we found a farm stand that had great eggs, honey and even some grassfed beef, plus Tom makes his own maple syrup. We will definitely back.

    Leslie 2016-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • The houseboat was a wonderful home for a our week stay. Lots of privacy, comfy beds and the hosts are very accommodating. Visits from the resident farm dog was a wonderful perk. The calm river offered excellent canoeing and fishing and the nearby towns had everything you can ask for. Looking forward to a future visit!

    brian2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for a lovely stay in your houseboat. Perfect view, nice calm evening by the fire and relaxing walks in the nearby areas. Thank you Tom for playing your guitar for us and both you and Karen for beeing exceptional hosts.

    Janne 2017-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Amy and Tom were excellent hosts as they responded promptly to any questions I had and were very friendly. The property was exactly what I hoped for: quiet, remote, clean. The view of the river is gorgeous and the sunsets are even better. Canoe and kayak are completely functional as was the fire pit outside the houseboat. Advice to next visitors: be sure to bring a cooler for food/beverages. I forgot mine and the one available to use is only Styrofoam. Secondly, the firewood available was wet (ground is close to the water and it rained the night before). It may be worth your time to bring some dry wood to get your first fire started. Finally, bring water shoes.

  • It was an amazing experience, very lovely and spotlessly clean home with extremely comfortable beds. I'm so so glad I was able to find this hidden gem. The kayak and SUP board were both in excellent shape and the conditions of the river were excellent for enjoying them both. One note: the shared dock is actually shared with the entire street and, as such, we really weren't made to feel welcome by the neighbours when attempting to use it. This is no fault of Mary, but I feel it is important to mention in case you picture yourself enjoying cocktails while watching the sun set over the river. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend. Thanks Mary!

  • Our stay in Bristol was excellent. The cottage is cozy, clean, and warm with fully equipped kitchen, Netflix, and fireplace. Great location for skating and snowshoeing in the winter, and the river is a one minute walk away. Mary made herself available to answer questions throughout our stay. I would highly recommend for quiet, relaxing getaways.

    Alessandro 2016-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place! Highly recommend for a nice and quiet getaway. Lots of fun for kids. The beach is walking distance from the cottage with a nice walk along.

    Ahmad2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Very lovely cottage; tastefully and comfortably decorated. The screened porch was great on our rainy days and was a welcome respite from the mosquitoes in the evening! The host replied to all of our questions promptly and checked in via text to be sure we were happily settled in. We would certainly rent from this host again in the future.

    Diane2017-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Renter beware. This "cottage" was filthy upon our arrival. The sheets were dirty. There was a horrible stench in the bathroom. We had to clean the toilet. The refrigerator and pantry were dirty and full of rancid expired food. The garbages were over flowing and there were many smelly beer cans laying around. The floors and rugs were dirty. The furniture was dusty. There were cob webs and spider webs. The outdoor grill had 2 inches of dried on food on the cooking surface. I would recommend NOT RENTING this disgusting cottage.

    Michael2017-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Older comfortable cottage in a nice area. Short walk to the river which is sandy and great for swimming. General store, boat launch and golf course nearby. Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. Had everything we needed for a pleasant quiet stay in September. Host was available but not intrusive and promptly responded to any questions we had via text/email. Thank you Mary.

  • Jacqui and Justin were so friendly and accommodating, checking in regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. Our 20 month old loved the cottage just as much as we did. Our favourite part was by far the private beach with fire pit. This is a beautiful vacation spot and they thought of all the little details. We look forward to visiting again :)

  • Really pleasant stay all around. Caution: there is poison ivy on, and around, the property. Do your research so you can spot it. Also stay on the dedicated pathways.

  • My girlfriend and I had a great stay in the Country Tower. Jennifer was a great host and provided some special treats for us when we arrived. The place was very clean and well-equipped. I would highly recommend staying there. Also, if you stay there on a clear night, you should look up at the sky, there are a lot more stars than you can see in the city.

  • Absolutely amazing cottage right on the water at an amazing price point. If your idea of a weekend getaway with friends/family involves curling up and gathering around a campfire after swimming/boating in the crystal clear water all day long, look not further. Sylvia has a picturesque cottage with all the amenities you need for a memorable weekend. She was thorough with her instructions as well as very prompt in responding to any questions before and during the trip. We were a large group and she did her best to accommodate us all by offering the bunk cottage (which is no less beautiful and charming that the main cottage). She also left a few cold ones in the fridge before our arrival which I thought was a very nice touch. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and would love to come back.

Welcome to The Bicycle Thief! A cozy apartment inspired by a special trip to Canada's East Coast. Quaint, and quiet apt with a separate entrance, attached to my personal home. The location is perfect! We're located two blocks from the river, downtown Arnprior (restaurants, shops, historic movie theater and museums) as well as the Gillies Grove trails. Bikes & canoe available. Coffee and tea provided. Netflix, Wi-fi, PS3, and board games at the ready. We look forward to hosting you!
Our space is bright and charming, decorated with antiques and love. Our signature piece is of course our hanging bicycle. Enjoy your own eat-in kitchen, inviting living room, and private porch. Upstairs you'll find a full bathroom with an old-fashioned clawfoot tub and shower. There's also two private bedrooms; one master bedroom with a queen sized bed, and a secondary bedroom with a bunkbed that holds two twin spaces. We also have many board games and books for you and your family/friends to enjoy. Our goal is for the Bicycle thief to feel like a home away from home.
Arnprior is located 20 minutes from Kanata, Including the Canadian Tire Centre that hosts many sporting events and concerts, and 40 minutes from downtown Ottawa. Home to Ontario's largest Pine-growth forest and tallest tree, Arnprior is home to both nature lovers and antique shoppers alike. • Lisa was a wonderful host, who went out of her way to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Lisa made herself readily available and was able to give us some helpful tips and suggestions about the area. This quaint apartment was well situated in central Arnprior. It was clean, quiet and comfortable, decorated with eclectic furnishings, which I loved! We were happy to be Lisa's first customers and we had a great experience. We will be back!

    michelle2017-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Lisa's was exactly what we needed. Arnprior is a charming town, her place was so sweet and cozy and Lisa was such warm and caring hot. We were steps away from a lake and the town where all the restaurants were, really sweet place. This will definitely be on our list of quick little places to book for romantic and chill not too far getaways.

  • Lovely cottage on great small lake. Perfect for quiet getaway. Natasha was very accessible for any questions that arose.

    Dale2017-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Natasha's place was an absolute pleasure to stay at and she is a pleasure to work with! Very easy check in and out. My boyfriend and I were in town for a wedding and we wished we could have spent more time at the cabin! The water having minerals in it could turn some people off but wasn't a problem for us as we didn't cook or spend that much time in the kitchen and are not very high maintenance people. The view and the decor is so cute. We even saw a Black bear with her babies driving back to the cabin from town! We would absolutely return to Natasha's place!

  • Awesome updated little cottage 10/10

    Paul2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Natasha's cottage is an amazing escape from city life. First, she was extremely quick at responding to messages. The cottage is located about 10 minutes from Shawville and is on a beautiful lake. I highly recommend taking the canoe out for a paddle. Additionally the decor is very modern and clean, and comes with all the appliances and tools you would want. There's a large fire pit with chairs that is ideal for roasting marshmallows and relaxing. There is also a nice BBQ. Overall great value and highly recommend.

  • Very clean and modern cottage by the lake. Perfect place to take some time off and enjoy the nature. The water is loaded with heavy elements so showering and dishes can be a intimidating. Thanks again!

  • Great value for money! Theresa was incredibly welcoming and the house was spotless. You will be pleasantly surprised when you arrive to find an outdoor table overlooking the Madawaska river which made our dinner that extra bit special. We highly recommend this as a place to stay if you are in the area.

  • My wife and I had a wonderful time with Theresa in Arnprior. She has a beautiful home on the water. We felt very comfortable and enjoyed our stay. I wish we could have stayed longer. Theresa was also very accommodating of our 1 1/2 year old daughter. We would even consider planning a vacation to Arnprior in the future now that we know there such a wonderful place to stay.

  • Leslie was so easy to communicate with, and greeted us when we arrived. The room was lovely and comfortable, and just what we needed. We will definitely stay with Leslie again if we're back in her neck of the woods!

    sean2017-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best place we've stayed. The room, the bathroom, the sitting area were lovely. This was the perfect place for our trip.

    Julien2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • Although secluded (a plus for me), Leslie's place was easy to find and not far from the highway. The property and house are lovely, bed and bath most comfortable, wifi excellent, and kitchen lacked for nothing. The biggest treat was the opportunity to swim in the river accessed via beautiful woodland walkway down to the river. A morning swim was most refreshing!

    Carol2017-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our weekend getaway, in part to see Barney Bentall play at the Neat Cafe in Burnstown (great food and coffee by the way). Leslie had everything set up nicely, and she was helpful in setting up us up (as she was away) following up with texts on how we were doing.. The pictures are accurate, her place has a great feel to it, very quiet in the woods (we didn't make it down to the river) and we highly recommend it. Thanks !!

Cottage campus in the heart of the Pontiac Bay. RELAX and enjoy this 4 season cottage located in small peaceful cottage community on a private road with private access to Pontiac Bay which is part of the Outaouais/Ottawa River. GREAT for camp fires, boating and fishing; which is only part of this quiet cottage setting. A short boat ride brings you too many sandy beaches along the Ottawa River, such as Fitzroy Harbour and Constance Bay. Access to bicycle paths, skidoo trails, ATV trails, etc
  • It was a nice quiet stay however the ending was sour. She accused us of breaking a chair, smoking in the house, throwing food and having an animal in the house. None of which is true. We had to leave the garbage in plastic bags outside as we couldn't find the main garbage bin. She then tried to charge us a ridiculous cleaning fee. It's a shame because she was a nice lady to begin with.

  • It was a great pleasure staying in Tom and Karen's cottageboat! Tom, Karen and Amy communicated very quickly and efficiently. Karen was our host for the weekend and was super friendly and accomodating. We were greeted with a friendly welcome and a basket of their fresh organic vegetables and sunflowers from their zero carbon garden. We had a great time using the canoe and caught some bass to cook for dinner which was delicious! Karen also gave us some of their amazing home made maple syrup which was to die for. Karen checked in on us and made sure we were comfortable. She recommended a few places to buy groceries and other places to visit such as the children's museum and Gatineau park. Make sure to bring extra blankets as well as the evenings do get quite chilly. Other than that, it was a lovely stay and we would definitely return and recommend it to our family and friends. Thank you once again Tom & Karen for a wonderful stay.
