  • Lovely large house in a beautiful setting. Well stocked kitchen and we loved the huge wood burner!

    Zelinda2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • A really cosy, comfortable house perfect for families with older and younger children and dogs. Little extras like having salt and pepper, Worcestershire sauce etc in the cupboard helped plus loads of space for everyone to sit and eat, high chair for baby, children's plates and cutlery etc. Two fridges to store food and lots of freezer space. Garden brilliant for kids and dogs even in the middle of winter and even though we were playing guitars and being very noisy after children's bedtimes, no one was woken up! Only thing to be aware of is very steep stairs for younger children, just need to help them up and down and keep an eye!

  • Wow what can I say, our stay was unforgettable, The cottage is truly beautiful, a complete Gem with so much character and warmth you will instantly feel at home and the views are breathtaking! We wish we didn’t have to go home, Sally’s generosity is beyond words, she’s equipped the cottage and garden with everything you would ever need, we were all overwhelmed by how much there was for us and all the adults and children never had a opportunity to be bored with the amount of games, books, toys etc we had on offer. Stunning cottage, Amazing host, excellent location I would highly recommend booking this property to everyone, we already want to book to go back! Thank you again Sally.

  • Great beautiful house. Very cosy feel with loads of space.

    David2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • This house is so super special. We stayed here as a huge family for our Christmas and Clare and Sally couldn’t do enough for us. We struggled to get our christmas shop delivered as we couldn’t get a delivery slot, so Clare went and collected it for us from the local Tesco’s and put it all away for us! Talk about superstar! Everything was ready for our arrival. We was happily greeted when we first arrived, with a hand book with everything we needed to know and the house was beautifully decorated with christmas decor! The wood burning fire was a super special touch, and the house had a real homey feel to it! It literally had everything you needed and nothing was s problem! High chairs for kids, towels, bedding, even toys for my two boys, and the fact that my beagle was welcome was sooo kind and meant we could all spend christmas as a real family. If you ever want to shut the door on life, and stay in a. really lovely warm, family home... where nothing is too much... then this is the place for you. Can’t recommend enough! we would love to return.. thank you!

  • Sally's place in Thorpe le Soken exceeded our expectations in every way. She greeted us graciously as soon as we arrived and made us feel immediately at home. Her cottage has a lot of space, both inside and out, comfortably sleeping a large group of us, and had all the facilities (such as kitchen, etc.) we needed to make it a fun, relaxing weekend away. Sally also had a lot of local knowledge and was able to recommend a few places in the village which completed our trip. We're already planning to see when we can come back in the summer!

    Mac2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay and loved the house for the amount of folk. All the living rooms allowed us to have seperate gatherings with out interruptingthe others. Rooms were great and garden is a real winner in summer i bet. Sally was a great communicator and kept us posted throughout the process.

    David2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Sally was a fantastic host. Warm and welcoming upon arrival. On hand if we needed anything. And the house is beautiful, surrounded by some amazing views and a gorgeous log fire.

  • My best friend I had a great stay here. The lodge was absolutely stunning and fully equipped with everything we could possibly need. The hot tub is a great, even though it was 6 degrees outside we still jumped in and watched the sunset. Honestly it was surreal. The lodge feels very warm and has fantastic homely touches. The beach is less than 10 min drive away and there a good few local pubs around too. There is plenty to see and do as well as relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Overall we had a perfect time here and can’t wait to book again for the summer!

  • Had an amazing night away at Janet's place. There are so many little touches that I don't usually find in an airbnb. There were crumpets for breakfast, tea, coffee, milk, bubbly, fresh orange juice. There was plenty of shower gel etc, lots of blankets to cosy up on the sofa and watch netflix, dressing gowns, slippers. There really was everything you need. The garden is really secluded and such a lovely space. The hot tub is lovely and warm, we BBQ'd some food. The cabin itself was lovely and warm too. We had such an amazing time and would love to come back in the summer and make use of the swimming pool!

  • Had a lovely nights stay here. The cabin was so cosy and homely and the hot tub was perfect. Would definitely re-visit.

  • Janet’s place was lovely. The perfect secluded getaway to spend our anniversary. Hot tub is amazing and completely private. We were there during horrible weather but it was still warm and relaxing to be in. Cabin is gorgeous and cosy. Bed really comfy, best we’ve slept in ages. Shower very powerful and lots of hot water. There’s no oven but we cooked everything we needed on the BBQ, which is super easy to use. TV has Netflix and Amazon prime and sofa is the perfect place to cosy up and watch a movie.

    Bridie2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely weekend away in the secret garden, hot tub was a highlight and the little touches that Janet included really added to the experience. Cabin was perfect size for 2 people and the outdoor garden area was huge, would love to be able to come back in the summer and use the pool! You won’t regret booking this place if you’re looking for a relaxed mini break.

  • My partner and I had a great stay, a nice quiet hidden area at the bottom of the garden. Totally private, excellent use of the hot tub.

Sleeps 2-4 persons. The chalet has one double bedroom with built in wardrobe, plus there is room for 2 to sleep in the lounge on the pull out sofa bed. The living room is very cosy with seating area, flatscreen TV and freeview / sky availability (please bring your own sky viewing card). Self contained kitchen space plus shower room, toilet and sink.
The chalet is located in a quiet part of the Bel Aire estate and overlooks the green, 500 yards from the beach. The perfect place to get away from it all. Included with the chalet is a 'visitors' card so that you can visit the local indoor swimming pool which is just a 5-10 minute walk away on the Hutleys Caravan Park for a small fee. You can walk freely around the Hutleys Caravan park and Seawick site and make use of all the local amenities including shops and amusements. There are numerous cafes/takesaways along the seaside restaurants (the little cafe in the parade of shops does a lovely carvery on a Sunday), 3 bars (the Sailor Boy pub which has nightly karaoke at the weekends, Tudor Bar and The Village Inn.) In the Summer the Sailor Boy often does karaoke in the afternoons outside which can be entertaining.
There are various amusement arcades offering bingo, pool/snooker hall, dodgems, childrens playground, indoor swimming pool, bouncy castle, bumper boats, crazy golf, hairdressers, launderette, bakers, newsagents, grocery shop, fish & chips, and an off licence.

A comfortable, clean, warm double bedroom in my end of terrace house in a quiet street where I live with my cats. 12 minutes walk from the town centre, main bus station (National Express to/from London airports also stops here), castle and ColchesterTown station - trains to London; short walk to stores (Co-op, Aldi, Tesco Express) and take-away restaurants. University within walking distance or a short bus ride. Free parking. Access to main roads. Long term bookings accepted on request.
The house is occupied by myself and my two sweet loving cats who remain downstairs at night. It has free wifi and central heating. The room is situated on the first floor next to the bathroom which has a luxury bath and walk-in shower, and at the back of the house with a restricted view of the garden. It has a very comfortable double bed, built-in wardrobe, bedside cabinet, chest of drawers and a drop down desk for working and studying which you might not see in the photos. Clean towels and hair dryer provided, as well as basic toiletries for your first night or two. Free tea and coffee is provided in the kitchen, of which you can make full use. It is equipped with everything you need including a fridge-freezer, washer, cooker/oven, dishes and pans. The dining room and garden are also available for guests' use, where you can eat outdoors in the summer.
A quiet residential area, very close to the town centre and all public services, including trains and buses. Plenty of historical sites to visit, all within easy access from the house. Aldi and Tesco Express supermarkets are a 5 minute walk away, and Co-Op supermarket is just around the corner. • Jennie's house is an especially lovely place and she is an amazing host! The location is brilliant and you can walk everywhere within minutes. The room is lovely, cosy, welcoming, and very clean, as well as the rest of the house. Jennie is a super fun person to live with, kind and caring, and she is very forthcoming. Everything to master your everyday life is there and if not, Jennie is always happy to help - also with all sort of advice. Her dedication goes far beyond a regular host, and she feels responsible for your well-being, in and out the house. I can highly recommend her place to everyone, who is looking for the best experience in lovely Colchester!

    Julian2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Jennie is such a fab host. She replies to my messages promptly and helps me to get around the town. Jennie also makes sure that the house is always clean. Plus, with the company of two cats, her place is always filled with warmth.

  • Homely, neat, well cared for and welcoming.

  • Jennie is a fantastic host who made me feel very welcome and is a pleasure to talk to. Jennie's home is very homely and cosy. The bedroom in which I stayed is lovely too and I've never slept in a more comfortable bed. Will definitely stay again

    Mark2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Walking into Jennie's house felt like walking into my own, so comfortable and Jennie such a dear person, great conversationalist and hugely warm. The house was clean and cosy, bed so comfy I slept for a solid 7 hours (a rarity) and the facilitates perfect. I would highly recommend! Thank you so much for making this such a great stay.

    Natalie2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • The landlord is very good and the room is very warm.

    Yingmei2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Jennies place is well located complete with a nice neighborhood pub, a large recreation area and two grocery stores. The walk into downtown is easy and only takes about 8 to 10 minutes. The walk to the University of Essex is a little longer but very pleasant and takes you along the canal. (Which if you get the chance check out the nature trail running from Colchester to Wivenhoe which is on the way to the University and follows the canal.) Jennie's house besides being well located is very comfortable and clean. Jennie made it easy for us to cook our own meals by providing us with refrigerator and pantry space and then we were able to eat those meals in her lovely garden. She has two of the most well behaved cats I have ever met and is a very warm person who will make you feel at home, I cannot recommend this accommodation enough!

I live here with my husband and have two single guest rooms and a twin room (feel free to contact me if you would like to book multiple room at once), all of which are used at various times. Often people who stay are working temporarily in the area. I offer a relaxed environment so you can chill out here. A single comfortable bed, wardrobe, desk, side table, and lamp. Each room overlooks the garden, shared good size bathroom, kitchen/diner and garden.

  • The place is really great :) We stayed 11 nights and everything was good. The place itself is well decorated and furnished, nothing too much but cozy. The neighbors were all quite and friendly. Late November it was warm and comfortable in the house. The fireplace was really good for late November! No doubt this place is 10/10. The only you should keep in mind when coming that there's no grossery shop in that holiday park so bring your food with you :)) There's a little one at the reception office but there is only stuff like cookies, snacks, ect. Nothing fresh like fruits or vegetables :) Thank for the stay, we'll come again!)

Exposed beams and a decorative brick wall are reminders of the historic pedigree of this newly converted structure. Today it's an airy and ultramodern space with every convenience. Sliding doors open onto a sunny courtyard planted with flowers. Please be aware though, we are near to a road so not an isolated country retreat, if you were looking for solitude.
Very modern with plenty of character features - our lodge has its own parking and is completely separate from owner’s house while still close enough if you have any questions / requests. Close to railway stations in Great Bentley and Alresford, the town centre and harbour of Brightlingsea, and the University of Essex (10 min drive). Approximately 8 miles from Britain’s oldest town, Colchester, which has a good array of shops and a historic castle, and also not far from Beth Chatto Garden centre, Constable countryside, Mersea Island and many other fabulous days out.
The lodge is close to the towns of Brightlingsea, Thorrington, Great Bentley, and Alresford. It's an ideal base for exploring North Essex and Suffolk. The Beth Chatto Gardens are in the next village, Elmstead Market, and Dedham Vale is 15 miles away.

An attractive Victorian family home, situated in charming Wivenhoe and a hop, skip and a jump from the university.
A lovely large room in an attractive Victorian house.
Wivenhoe is a delightful small town, with beautiful independent bookshop, deli and cafes. It's located on an estuary and so the river is never far away and it has lovely woods for a walk.

  • Bryony and the kids are great hosts. The house and room are lovely. The village is nice and it is just over 30minutes walk to the university, so the location is really good. The only tiny down side is that the room is at the front of the house and there is a bit of noise at night from some traffic, but I am a light sleeper.

Wivenhoe, a village on the River Colne just outside Colchester (Britain's oldest recorded town with its castle) has a delightful quay and eating establishments, including vegan, tapas, Indian and Italian. There are regular buses to Colchester via Essex University so the property is ideal for anyone visiting the campus where you can also find Wivenhoe House Hotel. We are also only 5 minute drive away from the famous Beth Chatto gardens.
The annexe is completely self-contained and not overlooked and has been used in the past by my sons and their respective wives as a starter home including kitchen and bathroom until they could afford to move out. It has now been fully redecorated and has accommodation for a single person or couple and also has space for a travel cot and/or inflatable toddler bed. (both available on request).

I would love to share my little home by the sea with you. Situated on Mersea Island and accessed by the tidal dependent Strood, this is a place to come to relax, unwind and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the Essex coast line. So much to see and do, use my comfortable home to explore the area. For those rainy days there are games galore to choose from, books to read and dvds to watch. I welcome 1 small dog . There is an indoor pool onsite which is open seasonally.
Home from home, you will never want to leave ! Spacious living area with 2 sofas, dining table to seat 4 . Mains connected central heating for those chillier days. Powerful walk in shower. En-suite to master bedroom 2 single beds in second bedroom, which can be pushed together to form a double if preferred/required. Integrated fridge and freezer and gas oven and hob. Large decked area with outside seating +BBQ Patio area at side of property with garden table.
I am adjacent to Cudmore Grove Country Park in East Mersea. Great for walking, bird watching , kite flying and if you have children, there is an amazing play area which includes a pirates ‘lookout’ ! A foot ferry can be accessed to Brightlingsea from the spit between April-October. If you want to kayak or paddle board try Reflective Adventures http://reflectiveadventures.co.uk

  • Heather offered wonderful considerate hospitality, including a wide-ranging breakfast in a lovely bungalow just a few minutes from the historic core of Wivenhow, with its evocative water-front Heather also offered the chance to join her charming friends bell-ringing up the church tower - which proved a fascinating experience. Highly recommended.
