Places to stay in Brigham
We are located on the edge of the Lake District National Park, within easy driving distance of both the historic towns of Cockermouth and Keswick, and also the stunning Solway Coast.
In addition to our five fully serviced caravan pitches, we have a popular camping pod here in our pretty gardens and caravan site on the edge of the Lake District, Cumbria. Add a touch of glamping to your break away. Enjoy your holiday or short break in our camping pod, which has so many advantages over traditional camping, and is ready for you to move in to! No fighting with canvas, and plenty of mod cons to enhance your time away. All you need to bring is towels and bedding!
Just a couple of miles from Greysouthen, you will find the historic town of Cockermouth. It is famed for its large number of small independent shops selling antiques, books, speciality foods and more. It has a fantastic selection of restaurants & coffee shops, and is also home to Jennings Brewery, the Kirkgate Arts Centre and the Taste Cumbria Food Festival. A little further on the A66 (about 20 minutes' drive) you'll find the adventure Capital – Keswick. There are too many treasures to mention around the Lake District, but you are in close proximity to many of the finest lakes such as Bassenthwaite, Crummock, Loweswater, Buttermere and Derwentwater. Mountain biking is available in Whinlatter Forest (England's only true mountain forest!), as well as Go Ape. Whether you are in to walking, biking, fishing, riding, or just wandering around the area, you will find plenty to do!
  • Lovely little camping pod in a great location! We enjoyed our stay despite storm Denis stopping us getting out and doing the things we had planned! Would definitely recommend this place!

  • This camping pod is cozy and perfect for those who want to pare down, escape the hustle and bustle of life and just live simply. The views are beautifully serene and we were toasty and warm, thanks to the big heater our hosts provided. We welcomed in the New Year in this little pod and had a wonderful time reminding ourselves that there really isn't a lot we need to be happy. A must-stay! Thank you to our hosts for everything.

  • We stayed one night in the cabin. It was exactly as described, with additional thoughtful touches thrown in. We stayed with 2 quite young children who thought it was an amazing adventure, they were a sad we weren't staying longer.

The Croft is a beautiful cottage in the heart of town, overlooking the river and a short walk from the shops, pubs, restaurants and other amenities. It is a luxurious, well equipped base from which to explore the Lake District. We welcome all visitors, their children and pets.
The cottage has been equipped to provide everything you need for a comfortable home from home including Wi-Fi, TV, books of local interest, hairdryer, dog bed and bowls, travel cot and high chair.
Cockermouth is the birthplace of William Wordsworth and his house, now run by the National Trust, is nearby. The cottage has lovely views over the River Cocker and Church to the rear. It overlooks the Bowling Green at the front. You can take a pleasant stroll along the river to Harris Park, a great place to walk the dog! The nearest supermarket is 200m away and there are many pubs selling Real Ale in the locality. Try a pint of Jennings, brewed in the town, it is highly recommended. The beautiful lakes of Buttermere, Crummock Water, Loweswater and Bassenthwaite are all just a short drive away, as is the Solway Coast.

    Megan2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Kim’s place over new year with 2 other couples. It comfortably fitted 6 people and our little dog. The house was immaculately clean and well equipped with anything you could ever need. 2 parking spaces where also a great bonus. Only a stones throw from the High street with fantastic views over looking the river. I Highly recommend the place.

NEW LISTING JANUARY 2018 Charming barn converted cottage dating from 1700. It is based near the quiet part of West Cumbria's Lake District. A great place for couples and we always welcome your pet. The cottage also has two step down access to a pretty patio garden with pond. The garden is shared and is quite large.
The downstairs living/kitchen/dining area is light and airy. It has patio doors onto the patio area. The bedroom is spacious. The bathroom contains a shower unit and separate bath. There is a beautiful patchwork couch which folds out to a third bed suitable for a third person in the longe area.
Our village is located 2 miles from the pretty market town of Cockermouth with a variety of shops and restaurants. This is a great place to explore the lakes of Loweswater, Crummock, and Buttermere as well as the coast and northern fells.
  • A lovely cottage nestled perfectly for amenities in Cockermouth (of which there are lots - including shops and cultural bits and bobs), as well as a base for exploring the lakes. Although the weather was horrible (thanks Storm Dennis!) the cottage provided a lovely, warm, character filled stay to return home to each night. We have stayed in lots of places in Cumbria, this was a really lovely place and excellent value for money.

    Kris2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely stay! Will definitely be coming back!

    Alex2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • A great base to explore some excellent walks and close to the supermarkets in Cockermouth. The cottage provided everything we required and was a cosy place to return to at the end of our walks. It catered well for our pet Labrador and the suggestions for local walks were useful for the first and last walks of the day. It is definitely a place we would return to.

If you are looking to get away from it all, and enjoy some amazing views and peace and quiet, then look no further. Set in its own little corner on our 300 acre farm, the hut enjoys spectacular views from the sun rising over the fells to it setting in the Solway coast. The lack of light pollution makes it an excellent place for stargazing. Don’t let the colder months put you off, with warm fleecy bedding, and log burner, you’ll be super cosy
The hut is very simplistic; think olden days (with a present day twist). It has a comfy double bed, a table and stools for meals looking out at the fells, and a lovely wood burner for those chilly, winter evenings. A short walk across the field will bring you to our newly renovated shower block. Aptly named “The Wash House”, in olden days it was used as a place to wash the milk and butter churns, and do the laundry. Today it has toasty under floor heating, a nice hot electric shower and changing area, a sink and a washing machine, and drying racks for those waterproofs to dry out on overnight. An iron, ironing board and hair dryer are provided to get ready for a good night out in the local towns, or pubs and restaurants . Towels can be provided, or you may wish to bring your own. There is also a separate door leading into the toilet, with an additional sink. An outside tap allows you to wash off muddy gear before hanging it to dry. The hut sits in its own little fenced off area, with an outside bistro set, mains water tap, and fire basket. Perfect for sunset dining, or roasting marshmallows under the stars. Going inside the hut, you will find it cosy and well equipped with everything you should need during your stay. There's a camping stove, pans, plates, cups, glasses, cutlery, all important corkscrew and bedding is provided. There are lights and a charging station for phones and ipads which are run by the solar panel. In case of rainy nights, there is a camping toilet under the bed for convenience. Just bring your clothes and food (and wellies!)
Situated on the outskirts of the quiet, picturesque, farming village of Branthwaite. Ideally located for exploring the coast and the lakes, and within a 30 minute drive radius are the towns of Whitehaven, Workington, Maryport, Cockermouth and Keswick, lakes, fells, forests and the beach! The Wild Duck pub is a 20 minute stroll away from the hut (or a two minute drive) or the equally lovely Royal Yew pub in Dean is just over a mile away.
  • The perfect cozy weekend getaway, even in the middle of storm Dennis. Would definitely recommend!

    Will2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely welcome and a lovely place. Clean and tidy with everything you need. Views are amazing and you would get great sunsets. Couldn’t stay long due to storm Denis but a braver person may be able to stick it out! In normal weather eg not gale force winds, this would be a fantastic place.

    James2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay, the hut was super cosy. It was the perfect escape. You had everything you needed for a great adventure.

    Alicia2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely relaxing time in the hut, the setting was a perfect way to escape from our busy working life. Lighting the log burner on a cold wet night was a highlight. The attention to detail is amazing with everything you need plus those little extras. Our dog Paddy loved exploring the fields and we enjoyed a lovely meal at the local pub - The Yew, the food was fabulous. I will be recommending to all my friends and family and plan to return in the spring. Thank you for having us.

    Holly2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely little place to stay! We certainly weren't blessed with good weather, but what better than a cosy cabin with a roaring wood-burner on a cold night? Thank you for a lovely stay.

    Adrian2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • A unique experience in the heart of the Lake District! Fantastic use of space, with all the finishing touches. We were really impressed with the personal touches - from hot water bottles, to candles, to cookies & wine! Thanks Beckie for a wonderful trip.

    Sophie2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a beautiful hut, charming and cosy with a romantic backdrop. Everything provided for the perfect stay in this bijou little hut. Highly recommended and we are returning soon!

    Erica2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely perfect!! Beckie is SO lovely!! The communication before and during our stay was great and Beckie is such a lovely Host. I booked the hut for my boyfriends birthday and Beckie was kind enough to sort a birthday banner out and lovely touches were found throughout our stay. Spotless everywhere, the hut was absolutely perfect, arriving in darkness we enjoyed the short walk to the hut to find cosy candles on. In the morning the view was incredible. We wanted to book another night but our pup hurt his foot out on a walk so we decided not to but we will DEFO be back. Thank you so much for a lovely stay xxx

A lovely bright clean and warm modern house tucked away in a quiet corner of Great Broughton near Cockermouth. Close to village shop, bakery and pub and a short drive from Cockermouth centre. Close to Keswick and perfectly situated for a restful break and exploring The Western Lake District.

Great Broughton is tucked quietly away, close to A66 and just outside of Cockermouth, which has an interesting selection of niche shops and is famous for its " William Wordsworth connection. • Amazing place to stay. House was very clean and welcoming. Close to all the attractions in Lake District if you are driving yourself. We would highly recommend Viv place and would go back to stay with at her place again!

  • Great host and a great property. Was one of the best Airbnb stay so far. Would recommend anybody.

  • Absolutely beautiful place. The house is so thoughtfully presented with everything you might need from towels, bedding, dishwasher/washing machine tabs, toiletries, toilet rolls, breakfast items, you can literally just rock up with your clothes bag. The cleanliness of the house is outstanding and the decor throughout makes this such a comfortable stay as if you were in Vivs home. Viv also couldn't be more helpful, making sure you're settled in and need anything. The home is spacious too with more than enough space for the 4 of us. A great stay in a great location in our best air bnb yet!

  • We had a truly lovely stay at the Quiet House, the property is very comfortable and cozy in a great location with nice views it's a perfect place to relax after long day of hiking. Vivien is a superb host who have gone out of her way to make us feel at home with the thoughtful touches around the house, breakfast essentials and a bottle of bubbly which was an unexpected bonus. The location and communication was fantastic, there's a parking space for 2 cars which was ideal for our party of 4. Overall we had a very enjoyable time at the Quiet House and would definitely return

    Anna Róża2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Vivien's house in Broughton is spotless. The house had all the amenities you could ask for and more. The house is positioned well for the Lake District or the coast and comes with a small drive outside for a car. Vivien was a great host and her attention to detail is second to none. When we arrived there was everything needed for breakfast and shampoo in the bathrooms. Her responses were quick and all in all, I'd thoroughly recommend staying if you're ever in Cumbria.

    Neil2019-12-30T00:00:00Z

The cottage is over 150 years old with walls 2 foot thick but has a very modern walk-in shower room and up to date kitchen. It is spacious, warm and homely - a veritable home away from home. All the basics that you may need are provided, including kitchen equipment, bedding, towels, soap, heating, lighting and power. There is a patio garden area to the rear of the cottage and off-street parking is available to the front.
Once you book the use of the cottage is yours. It is a cottage with character....on 2 floors but with small stairs leading here and there. There is a cosy, homely feeling. With thick walls it is cool in the summer and warm in winter, although guest-controllable central heating in winter adds to the cosines.
The cottage is in the centre of the village with 2 pubs, a post office and general store and a small bakery and general store, all in easy walking distance. The pubs generally only open towards the end of the week and weekends and are drinking establishments- not for food and meals. The nearest place for meals is the Broughton Craggs Hotel or the short drive to Cockermouth, which is full of a variety of pubs, restaurants and take-aways.
  • Great location and lots of thoughtful touches!

  • Sue’s place is nice and clean, all you could ask for in a holiday rental. Sue herself is a great host, she set up the cot for our baby and decorated the house for Christmas, which we really loved.

    Florina2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Sue’s place is definitely the definition of home away from home! It was comfortable, spacious, great for relaxation and also conveniently located for day trips all over the Lake District. I notice how many of her guests have returned many times. I can certainly understand why.

    Melissa2019-10-20T00:00:00Z

    Holly2019-10-14T00:00:00Z

Explore the West Lakes, Fells and coast and stay in our old coal miner's cottage. Your sunny bedroom is up the steep stairs, tucked under the eaves with a view over the slate roofs towards the Lake District Fells. All ingredients provided for a help-yourself breakfast. C2C cyclists- space for bikes. Safe parking for motorbikes. Good Bus service.
Canary Cottage is one of a short row of coal miners' cottages dating from the mid 1800's when Great Clifton was a colliery. The cobbled lane outside used to be the main way through from the fields to the farm yard for the cows. The lane now leads onto the village playing field with views over pasture and woods towards the sea. Your bedroom has free wifi and you are welcome to make drinks whenever you like in the kitchen. We do not have a TV but you are welcome to borrow from our many books if you want to spend time alone quietly.
Between mountains and coast Great Clifton is an ideal place from which to explore The Lake District National Park - only 6 miles away. The charming market towns of Cockermouth (Wordsworth House) and Keswick (market Saturday and Thursday)are easily accessible and Bassenthwaite Lake, Borrowdale and Skiddaw have walks and wildlife in abundance. The less well known coastline features historic ports and wild beaches stretching North to the Solway Firth. Or you could just take a ramble from the front door down to the peaceful banks of the River Derwent.

  • Staying at Bar's place is a pleasure within itself. Spending a week working away, each night I was delighted to be retreating to this cosy home. Bar makes you feel very welcome, allowing you to cook in her kitchen & use all her homely amenities. Bar is also a fascinating conversationalist for those wishing to learn more about the Lake District. Thank you Bar, for giving me a home away from home :)

  • Barbara is very friendly. Very good communication. I hope to visit your house again;-)

  • Bar is a warm and wonderful host. She's a sweetheart. She made some very thoughtful gestures which we would not expect from even close ones! The room is as described, very clean and cozy. My wife and I had a very peaceful stay and would love to come again. Thank you so much for everything Barbara! We'll miss you...

    Swaraj2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Sadly, I never met Barbara or stayed in her place as my wife had an accident & had to fly back to Canada.

    Dave2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara is a fantastic, kindhearted and thoughtful host who made us feel welcome immediately. The room, bathroom and kitchen had everything we needed, and we had some lovely conversations over dinner. Her place is a bit outside of the Lake District, but it is quite easy to reach by car and public transport. We can only recommend Barnara's place!!

    Anna-Lena2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara's instructions to her house were very good. (You have to ignore GPS, though.) She is very interesting to talk to and willing to help out.

  • Great location, town centre, everything on your doorstep. Central to numerous local walks. Highly recommend for walkers and dogs !

    Jason2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely lovely place in the heart of Cockermouth! There was enough room for the three of us to feel comfortable, as well as our small dog! Siobhan is a brilliant host, all communication was brilliant from start to finish and she offered suggestions for places to eat etc. Sainsburys/Lidl, pubs, bars and cafes all close by. The only problem we found was finding places that would allow us in with our dog, although Veeva allowed dogs on a Saturday and Sunday they said. ‘The Bitter End’ pub allows dogs and was a great place for food and a craft ale. We had a really lovely stay and felt at home, there was everything we needed in the flat. We were all just disappointed to only be staying for the one night! Would highly recommend this accomodation and would definitely like to return in future but for longer next time! Many thanks! :-)

Gorgeous small double bedroom in terraced house near the centre of Cockermouth. Easy walking distance to bars, restaurants and shops, free street parking, and on the right side of town for quick access to Keswick and the fells! A warm welcome, and a true home from home.
I bought this house last March, and since then have been really happy here - the place just has that really welcoming feel to it, the way some houses do. And my aim is to ensure that my guests feel relaxed and at home here too. The room isn't a hotel room - it's something better. If you are looking for a lovely cosy space, a comfy bed, a warm welcome, a powerful shower to wake you up, and a relaxing atmosphere, then my space will suit you very well! The room is fairly small, but comfortable and stylish, and there is both hanging space and storage in a chest of drawers. There is a smart TV in the room, with access to live TV, Netflix, BBC I-Player, All4 etc. The bed is of the modern platform kind, with a mattress on a low slatted base, and I use a memory foam mattress cover for your comfort. There is a blackout blind to help ensure a good night's sleep, and the house is very quiet and peaceful, with views of green space and the church spire from the bedroom window. I'm a freelance writer and artist, which means that there is a lot of art hung up around the house, and lots of books which you are welcome to dip into. I'm also a keen fellrunner, hillwalker, cyclist and swimmer, and am currently training for my Mountain Leader qualification so that I can take guests out on the fells, and I'm really happy to help out with ideas for routes or activities.
The house is in a very quiet cul de sac, and many guests have commented on how peaceful it is, and how pleasant and green the view is from the bedroom window. The house is just off the road towards Keswick, which is a twenty minute drive away. The coast is also only twenty minutes away, and has superb views across the Solway Firth to Scotland, and a sunset to die for! The nearest beach is Allonby, and slightly further afield, there is a superb coastal cliff walk from St Bees to Whitehaven. I love the outdoors, and am a keen fellrunner, hillwalker, cyclist, swimmer, and I know the Lake District and wider Cumbria very well, so please feel free to ask for recommendations. There are also a lovely range of walks and other things to do around Cockermouth itself, and I'm happy to help with ideas for both sunny and rainy day activities! The house is both very central, and also within a few minutes' walk of the start of a walk up the main local hill - the Hay - which has fantastic views of the Lakeland fells. Cockermouth itself is a fantastic small town, with lots of independent shops, cafes, real ale pubs, restaurants...Wordsworth House is in Cockermouth, and provides a fascinating insight into how William and Dorothy Wordsworth grew up, and there are also a number of small art galleries and vintage / antique shops. There is a Sainsburys, a Lidl, an Aldi and a Co-op for supplies, plus lots of independent shops (bakers, butchers, grocers, delis etc). The Kirkgate Arts Centre is thriving, and puts on a mix of theatre, music and films. Yet despite a good amount of tourism, the town also feels very 'lived in', in contrast to Keswick and many of the towns within the actual National Park. In other words, in my own biased view, it's the perfect place to both live and visit!
  • Lucy’s space was amazing! Very good communication, and was so convenient being so close to the bus route. Was the perfect place to stay when exploring the Lake District!

Self contained one bedroomed apartment in a fantastic location. The property is recently renovated and in the rear garden of the hosts family home on a large secure plot with plenty of parking. A stones throw from Cockermouth Castle and just a minutes' walk to the buzzing town centre, cafes, pubs and restaurants as well as a sports centre with gym and pool. Only a 10 minute drive from the world heritage Lake District National Park which has stunning local walks and scenery. Perfect getaway.
The property is detached and in a great location, only a minutes walk from the town center, where you can have a glass of wine as well as a restaurant or cafe meal. It is a great base for visiting the North Western Lakes via bus or car. We have lots of people choosing to stay with us that are guests at wedding venues in the surrounding countryside or at our Town Hall too! Free parking is available within our private driveway and you can come and go as you please without fear of disturbing anyone. The apartment is well insulated for warmth and noise so you will get a great sleep. Although it is within minutes of the town center it is still nice and peaceful. There is a large shower and separate cosy bedroom as well as an outside dining space if the weather permits! In the open plan living space there is a large comfortable sofa to relax on and TV with DVD player and a few DVDs. The kitchenette has a microwave, gas cooker and hob, table and 2 chairs as well as fridge, crockery and utensils. You can chose to eat in, dine out or possibly prepare a picnic for any hikes you may do whilst visiting the Lakes.
A quiet residential area next to a sports centre and Cockermouth Castle. The hosts house was originally built to house local police officers but is now privately owned. It is not overlooked and is situated adjacent to Tute Hill which is on a protected conservation site due to its “Motte and bailey” style history.
  • Beautiful, warm and clever (but enough about the host!) Really enjoyed our stay. Everything was clean and the space was really well planned and beautifully finished. Will definitely stay again.

  • Perfect little place. It's compact but so well laid out you don't notice. Warm, comfy, modern. Lots of natural light with a nice interior. (And the shower is great!). The central street in Cockermouth is walking distance, and the North Lakes are only a 10-20 min drive. We got to the bottom of Skiddaw in 15 mins. Mandy was a great host. Welcoming, accomodating and helpful whilst also giving us space. I'd definitely come back!

Come and stay in our old coal miner's cottage. Your sunny bedroom is up the steep stairs, tucked under the eaves with a view over the slate roofs towards the Lake District Fells. All ingredients provided for a full help yourself breakfast. C2C cyclists - space for bikes. Safe parking for motorbikes.
Your bedroom has free wifi and you are welcome to make drinks whenever you want downstairs. We do not have a TV but you are welcome to borrow from our many books if you want to spend time alone quietly.
Nearby - Fantastic scenery, coastal walks, historic houses, industrial heritage, C to C cycle. Set between mountains and coast the village of Great Clifton is an ideal place from which to explore everything! The Lake District National Park is only 6 miles away, and the sea side 4 miles. The charming market towns of Cockermouth (Wordsworth's birthplace) and Keswick (markets Thursday and Saturday) are easily accessible. The Northern Fells, Bassenthwaite Lake, Wild Ennerdale, Borrowdale and Skiddaw have walks and wildlife in abundance and more sheep than people. Whinlatter Forest has breathtaking mountain bike routes. The less well known coastline features historic ports of Workington, Whitehaven, (Rum Story) Maryport (Roman garrison) and wild beaches stretching North to the Solway Firth (winter waders). Nearby attractions include Maryport Aquarium, Wordsworth House NT, Lakes Distillery, Jennings Beer, Honister Slate Mine, Florence Coal Mine, and the Wool Clip at Caldbeck, Or you could just take a ramble from the front door down to the peaceful banks and footbridge over the River Derwent.

I told her that she didn’t just offer me a place to stay, she actually offered me a sweet home, with her humming cheerfully over doing things and those lovely talks we had over dinner. She has a caring heart and a generous soul, she treats the visitors as her family. She loves nature and people. I feel so lucky to stay at her place and become friend with her. She is the best.

  • Had a lovely stay - cozy and with everything we needed. Bridget had lots of tips for places to check out in the area.

    Lauren2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely week at Bridget's super annex. The location (just outside Cockermouth) is ideal for exploring the Lake District and the Cumbrian Coast. Classic Lake District destinations are easily within a 30-minute drive and Cockermouth (with excellent shops and eateries) is just a 5-minute drive. As others have noted, we received a very warm welcome with very welcome hot-water bottles in the bed. We'd had a long drive in bad weather and so we were really grateful that checking-in was so easy. The annex has everything a single person or, in our case, a couple might need for a short stay and there is ample room to relax and eat. We had some relatively harsh weather during our stay but the annex remained warm and cosy. It is a very peaceful semi-rural location, with just the sound of the birds and the occasional sheep bleating. Communication was excellent and Bridget was extremely helpful and quick to provide assistance if needed. If you're looking for a base to explore the Lake District from, but want to stay somewhere out of the hustle and bustle of the Lake District hotspots, then this is an ideal place to pick; we think you will have a great stay!

The hosts had left many brochures on the sights to see and walks to take in the Lakes which was helpful in planning our day out. We really appreciated the thoughtful detailing in the cottage. It has a small garden, unique open living space incorporating the kitchen and lounge, lobby, shower room and large bedroom. The Barn is in a countryside location yet gives easy access to all the North West Lakes and the lesser known but very scenic West Coast.
Finished to an extremely high standard, The Barn offers peace and tranquility with every modern convenience and is the ideal base for exploring the West Lakes throughout the changing seasons. The layout is all on one level with an open plan living area which incorporates a well equipped kitchen, large sofa and TV; a shower room; a lobby where there is a washer and dryer; and a large bedroom with a king sized bed and a double sofa bed suitable for two children. There is also a small drying area/space for outdoor gear and a lockable bike store. Though The Barn is the ideal place to recharge your batteries the beautiful market town of Cockermouth is only 3 miles drive away and Keswick is 20 minutes drive away. Both have a good variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. The Barn is well placed to access Buttermere, Crummock Water and Ennerdale, to name just a few of the beautiful local attractions and the stunning West Coast. There are plenty of walking, open water swimming, running and cycling opportunities virtually outside the front door. With its high standards of accommodation and superb location, The Barn is perfect for a couple and their well behaved dog(s) to explore all the delights that the Lake District has to offer, whatever the time of year.
A very scenic rural area with amazing views across to Scotland on one side and the mountains of the Lake District on the other side.
  • What a beautiful and peaceful setting. Hazel and Mike were fantastic hosts and they have done such a wonderful job renovating the barn. It was such a relaxing and bigger than expected space. Great location for exploring the Lake District too. Would highly recommend this stay to anyone.

  • We have just returned from a 2 night stay in this lovely barn. From the pictures when booking I knew the barn was going to be lovely but when we arrived we were blown away by how stunning and spacious the barn was. The decor and attention to detail is amazing and I was a little sad we had only booked for 2 nights. I didn’t want to leave. The views are amazing. The barn had everything we needed to cook our meals in the evening it was a real home from home. It was great for our dog too as it had a little garden area to the rear and a lovely walk right outside. There is a handy tiled entrance hall that was prefect for our dog to dry off and sleep. We will be returning for sure to explore more of the Lake District.

  • We had a lovely time at the barn! The attention to detail in the renovation was outstanding and it was probably one of the nicest and well appointed Airbnb’s we have stayed in. It was so warm and cosy with everything we needed for a fantastic stay. Hazel was very helpful especially when we had a lost key issue!! We would recommend this place to anyone - it’s truly fabulous!

    Frances2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The barn was a perfect stay for me and my boyfriend. Perfect kitchen amenities for us to cook one evening and extremely cosy living spaces. Everything was spotless and comfortable - couldn’t have asked for anything better for a relaxing weekend away. Thank you again!!

    Emily2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a unbelievably beautiful home to stay in. I can't say enough for how much my girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay at Hazel and Mike's home. It was the perfect getaway, surrounded by such stunning scenery, with every amenity you could need provided by our wonderful hosts. Expectations definitely met, and exceeded, with every home comfort you could ask for. I cannot recommend this property enough. So much so, I hope to one day return for another stay!

  • We had a great stay at Mat's cottage. It was a surprisingly spacious and quirky place to stay, in a brilliant location. Our 4-year-old loved staying in the 'treehouse bed', which she could climb up to through a secret trap-door! Mat was a brilliant host, just next door in his shop, and answered all questions we had. There was even milk and cereal for the morning. The next time we're staying in Cockermouth, Mat's cottage will be our first choice. Thanks!

  • Beautiful little cottage which is in the centre of town (which is lovely) but also tucked away behind the high street. We had a great time there and the kids loved the Jacob's ladder and trap door through to the top bedroom. Mat is a great host: couldn't have been more helpful.

  • I very much liked staying at Jane's place. Nice comfy double bed, hot powerful shower. There's a pub over the road that gives generous portions, or it's literally a 15 minute walk into Cockermouth where there's a whole choice of eateries. Very impressed with the "DIY " breakfast as Jane describes it. I didn't really know what to expect as I've always stayed in a conventional guesthouse. The thing with conventional guesthouses is that you're paying for the cooked breakfast, so if you're like me who can't really stomach a full English in the morning, you're paying out money for nothing. At Jane's there was plenty of choice of cereals, bread, jams and spreads plus Greek yoghurt and berries in the fridge. All for a lighter kind of breakfast. It was help yourself and sit down at the kitchen table, and then come and go as you please. Good value for money and a very relaxed atmosphere. I left my own food in the fridge and then made sarnies each morning for my day out on the fells. This also saved me money. All in all, a very good stay at Jane's and if I'm ever in the area again, I would put in a request to stay here once more.

    Matt2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great value plus friendly welcoming host made staying here very easy & enjoyable for us. Thanks Jane.

  • Jane is a great host, her place is immaculately clean and she provides home comforts and extra treats. It is like home from home. It was our second stay with Jane and will definitely go back. I have often recommended people visiting the area to stay at Jane's. Also extremely good value for money, particularly in that area.

    Maureen2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Jane's place is idea for anyone wanting to explore the Lake District offering excellent value for money. My room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the shower was hot and powerful. The fact breakfast was provided was a real bonus. I would definitely stay here again and highly reccommend it to others.

The Vale of Lorton is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of the Lakes, ranging from the flat farmland and Gem town of Cockermouth at one end to the rugged mountains and Buttermere at the other. The tranquil setting of The Spinney, above the River Cocker, with spectacular views over to Whinlatter, is an ideal location to explore the north western fells, lakes, towns and coast. In two acres of mature trees, gardens and river frontage, there’s an abundance of wildlife all year round.
The Spinney, a self-contained cottage style annexe of the main house, together form a 200 year old property built into the fellside above the River Cocker. The house was originally a painting house for a local artist. Through the stone pillars down the gravel drive, a private parking area for The Spinney is adjacent to the property. A few stone steps down to the south facing French doors is where you enter into the open plan living/dining space – the kitchen with its lovely window seat and the relaxing seating area with the original sandstone fireplace and wood burning stove. Up the stairs off the landing there’s a double bedroom with king-size bed and beautiful views across the valley. A split level bathroom and single bedroom complete the upstairs area. The gardens have colour across the seasons. In spring there are thousands of daffodils and bluebells to complement the rhododendrons and azaleas with other colourful blooms flowering throughout the year. During the day there’s invariably something going on in terms of gardening, renovation or general maintenance but we try to be discrete. Red squirrels, hares, and deer are regularly seen along with a plethora of garden birds, pheasants, buzzards, ducks and herons. Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you can hear the birds sing, the breeze in the trees, the sheep murmuring and the river gurgling where you can fish or just sit in peaceful seclusion.
Gateway to the north western Lake District, Lorton has a village shop with excellent coffee, essentials and craft gifts. There's a pub and a thriving village hall with different activities most days. There's two all weather tennis courts and we're on a C2C route.

This is a cosy downstairs basement studio which can sleep 1 or 2 people. There is a light bedroom and sitting area with twin beds and pine furnishing. The bright ensuite shower room has towels and toiletries . There is a kitchenette area well equipped with crockery, cutlery and pans, microwave, small cooker, toaster and sink. If you prefer breakfast to be provided, you can join other guests in the breakfast room upstairs where I cook a delicious full English Breakfast £5 per person.
The flat was originally the laundry area for the house and has the old copper with fire underneath as a feature of the room. The flat is accessed down some steep stairs through the main house, so not suitable for small children or anyone with limited mobility.
Cockermouth is an attractive traditional market town and with plenty of independent shops as well as supermarkets. Wordsworth House, where the young William Wordsworth grew up, is run by the National Trust and is 5 minutes walk down the Main Street. There are regular Taste of Cumbria Food Festivals and each June the Woolfest draws many people to the town. Restaurants and cafes provide a great range of cuisines and for coffee and lunches the Wild Zucchini is very friendly and good value.
  • I had a wonderful time staying in the studio room. It had everything I needed for a short break in Cockermouth.

Toddell Barn forms part of our traditional Lakeland longhouse farm, built in approximately 1710. Toddell Barn sits within approximately 7 acres of agricultural land that helps attract a wide variety of wildlife. Toddell Barn is located in the hamlet of Brandlingill (2 miles south of Cockermouth) and is within the northern boundary of The Lake District National Park, categorised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.
Toddell Barn, part of a traditional Cumbrian Longhouse is found in the quiet hamlet of Brandlingill where it looks out directly onto Mosser Fell, beautiful farmland and into the distance onto the majestic might of Skiddaw. Toddell barn has been tastefully renovated ensuring that original features such as the oak beams have been retained whilst all modern-day comforts have been added. The end product being a beautiful hidden getaway combining luxury with a piece of history. The barn is accessed by going up a short flight of stairs up to a light, fully beamed and open plan sitting and kitchen/dining area which acts as a fantastic communal area. The sitting area has a comfortable sofa that be used as a double sofa bed if need be, TV/DVD player and a dining area that looks out onto fields and fells. There are plenty of local area maps, books and board games for you to borrow during your stay. Recommendations for local walking and cycle routes as well as restaurants, cafes and inns and visitor attractions can all be found in the visitor file. The kitchen is very well equipped with cooker, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, coffee machine plus much more. The double bedroom which is also beamed is found through the sitting area and features a comfortable pocket sprung mattress along with a generous wardrobe and dressing table with further views out onto the Vale of Lorton. A delightful shower room is attached with all modern facilities. Guests have access to a downstairs utility room where there is a washing machine (washing liquid and conditioner provided) and a drying room. Iron, ironing board, hooks for hanging outdoor coats and a warm place to dry off those muddy walking boots are all found here. Guests also have access to a private walled garden, with table and chairs which surrounded by deep well-established flower borders. From the wildlife friendly garden, you will have views out over the meadow and beyond to the fells, the meadow and woodland being home to roe deer, hares, badgers, red squirrels and a variety of birds including barn owls. Listen carefully and you`ll hear the resident woodpeckers, cuckoos and owls. You will also see free ranging hens and our beautiful Aylesbury ducks out in the field (fresh eggs are usually available). Please do not smoke or vape in the Barn. You may however smoke or vape in the walled garden where you`ll find a flower pot for those cigarette ends. Car Parking space is found adjacent to the end of the property and should you wish to bring bikes or canoes secure storage can be provided. Please do not use our neighbours` drive as a turning place; please reverse in to the designated parking space so that you can pull out forwards on to the lane and drive past the Barn and the house. We supply most of the basics you will need such as washing up liquid, shampoo and conditioner toilet rolls, towels, tea and coffee to name just a few – of course if there is anything you need us to get for your arrival then please do let us know.
Brandlingill is a hidden gem of a Lakeland hamlet that despite being off the beaten track lies in close proximity to both the busy market towns Cockermouth and Keswick. Walking is offered in all directions whether it be a river walk into Cockermouth, strolling and meandering through quiet country lanes and tracks or onto the delights of Mosser fell and beyond there is something for everyone. If one is feeling energetic one can walk to Lorton or Loweswater where one can then feast at either The Wheatsheaf or The Kirkstile Inn – said to be one of the finest pubs in the Lakes or alternatively take a dip in Crummock Water. As we are situated within easy reach of the quieter Western fells, Crummock, Loweswater and Buttermere are only a few miles away. For the more adventurous Go Ape and mountain biking is available in Whinlatter Forest, a Via Ferrata at Honister Slate Mine and boating at Derwent water. There are several Supermarkets in Cockermouth, Sainsburys, Lidl and Aldi (open 7.30 – 9 Mon to Sat and 11 – 5 on Sun) plus independent butchers, greengrocer, bakeries, fishmonger and pharmacies for any supplies you not brought with you. The nearest garage is on the A66/A5086 roundabout – but beware as it is expensive.
  • We absolutely loved our relaxing stay at Toddell Barn. We were warmly welcomed and the hosts provided fresh bread, eggs from their own hens and baking which was a lovely touch. The accommodation was stylish, comfortable and very clean. There was plenty of room for the two of us and our young baby. We would definitely recommend!

  • The perfect place to stay for a trip to the Lake District! Located in a lovely part of the Lakes, this is only a short drive to the local town and a really scenic short drive to walking routes. The accommodation itself is spacious, stylish and really cosy, with everything you would need for the trip - board games, coffee/tea/milk, and even fresh eggs from the owner's farm (who thoughtfully dropped off more on our doorstop over our stay). You can really tell that care and effort has been put into everything. Thank you Chris for such a lovely stay, we would definitely go back!

  • We stayed at Toddell barn for New Year’s Eve and couldn’t have picked anywhere better. It was the perfect, cosy escape we had been looking for and we couldn’t fault a thing! We arrived to a friendly greeting from Candy who kindly showed us the barn, there were some lovely thoughtful touches including homemade brownies, fresh eggs and milk and even a bottle of fizz to bring in the new year. The barn was clean and well heated and had everything you would need. It is located in the middle of nowhere which meant it was extremely peaceful! We walked into Cockermouth which took just over an hour or if driving a 10 minute drive so not too inconvenient if you need to pop to the shops. I would recommend Toddell Barn to anybody looking for a few cosy, quiet days escape from reality. Thanks again Chris and Candy, I hope we will be back again one day.

Grey Goat House was built about 1770. In 1900 it was converted into a public house Ye Old Grey Goat Inn which was run by my wife's great uncle. The Inn ceased trading in 2012 and is now The Grey Goat House which is our home This year we refurbished the Bake House and beer shed into a self contained modern new build ground floor flat. The flat is located in the Conservation Area of Cockermouth, which is the oldest settlement in this Georgian market town and the property is Grade II listed.

  • Brilliant place to stay in Cockermouth, brilliant access to the town and all it has to offer. The place is really nicely appointed with everything you could need. Really peaceful place to stay with no unwanted noise. Jan himself is a really nice guy and a good host. I would definitely recommend it/return myself in the future.

Located in the quaint Georgian market town of Cockermouth, our charming one bedroom cottage has been lovingly restored by ourselves. Only a few miles from both the Lake District National Park and Solway Coastline, Number 60 is superbly situated for you to enjoy the beautiful scenery and plentiful activities on offer in the local area. With an abundance of cosy character features alongside modern facilities, our cottage is the perfect base whatever the reason for your visit.
The property is self contained. A complimentary welcome pack is provided for the arrival of all guests and includes fresh milk, juice and breakfast items. Tea, coffee and sugar are also provided. A guest parking permit is provided for on street parking outside the property. The property has a smart TV with free Netflix for you to enjoy during your stay. It also has wifi. We do allow guests to bring a dog with them but politely request that they are not allowed on the sofas or bedding. Please note the property does not have a garden. There is however a small field with a footpath just at the end of the street that is suitable for dogs.
Cockermouth is an attractive market town, not overwhelmed by the tourist atmosphere of nearby towns. Well known for being the birth place of famous poet William Wordsworth and also home to Jennings Brewery, Cockermouth has lots of history to offer it’s visitors. There are a large number of small independent shops, such as a butchers and fishmongers as well as supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s and Aldi all in the town. One of our favourite things about Cockermouth is the huge selection of excellent coffee shops, restaurants and pubs on offer and we are sure you will enjoy making use of them during your stay!
  • Gorgeous cottage in the middle of Cockermouth. A lovely host, who will make your stay special, we only wish we could have stayed longer (forever!)

  • Smart and stylish home in Cockermouth. Every amenity catered for and within easy walking distance of pubs, eateries and local attractions. One of the best Air BnBs we have stayed in, in this lovely little town.

  • Fab stay. Lovely, cosy cottage in a great location. Loved the welcome package and the fact we could bring our Spaniel. Laura was helpful prior and during our stay. Definitely recommend.

  • We stayed at Laura’s place for 2 nights and it exceeded all expectations! Such a great little space with everything you need for a fantastic price! Can’t wait to return

    Stefan2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful space on the edge of the Lake District. At a fraction of the cost of places in Keswick and with so much more to offer in terms of store opening times and restaurants. A good location if walking the Buttermere valley, Skiddaw and Blencathra range and Whinlatter Forrest. Comfy bed, beautiful bathroom and kitchen with everything you need, super clean! I tried the Bamboo Thai restaurant and it was fab also Merienda day for brunch which was lovely. Situated centrally but on more a suburb street literally the only downside was the pub a few doors down as the windows are single pane when people are leaving between 11-12:30 on the Friday night they were so noisy! Nothing the owners can but if used to rural silence like me it really kept me up until they had all buggered off haha! Sat night however they were fine so must just be a few odd rowdy locals. Would stay again!

Our newly renovated, ground floor apartment in our georgian townhouse is located in the historic area of Kirkgate in Cockermouth. There is off road parking next to the house, private entrance and easy access to town centre, cafes, pubs as well as sports centre with gym and pool.
We love our home, dated 1761 it has lots of quirky features and no straight walls! It has been a journey of renovation and discovery that is still ongoing! We moved the Lake District 11 years ago and fell in love with the place, the town centre location is perfect for popping into town, to enjoy the numerous restaurants and very friendly pubs. We made this ground floor easily accessible small apartment for our parents to enjoy but in between we are happy to share it.
Town centre location, will find a host of excellent restaurants and old fashioned pubs on your doorstep, easy access to northern fells and lakes, or coastal walks. Nearby popular towns of Keswick, Ambleside and Grasmere are just a drive away.
  • Really nice apartment, well furnished. Right in the town centre. Would stay again.

  • Beautiful space, exceptionally clean and well kitted out with cooking utensils, cleaning products and lots of options from coffee to tea. Debbie was very helpful during our stay and gave us pointers on what to do in the area. Lovely property with a real home feel, loved the board games!

    Lauren2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very nice clean cottage in a good place with everything you may need or want I had a fantastic time

  • What a lovely cottage/apartment - a great space for 2 adults. Cosy, well equipped and a great location for Cockermouth town centre. We will book this again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to friends.

  • This place is set in a great location for exploring the Lakes. We came for a weekend of walks (but unfortunately got ill on the first night so ended up spending our full weekend in Debbie’s air bnb). It had everything we needed, the TV in the bedroom became very useful and it was very cosy and comfortable. The town is so very pretty, and Debbie gave us a useful veggie restaurant. I would say make sure you make restaurant reservations before you go because everywhere we could eat was booked up on our first night - and getting food poisoning from the local Indian ruined what we planned for our trip.

    Laura2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely warm, very clean apartment, well appointed and thoughtfully decorated with most of the basic requirements for a couple who may wish to cook simple meals some of the time. The bedroom is extremely spacious with TV and spare armchairs and stools to put up one's feet provided. It is accurately described. The shower is lovely and hot with a rain and hand shower available. The pub Bitter End is very convenient being next door but one to the apartment and does excellent food and great service. There are several supermarkets within easy walking distance. Also a fantastic butcher's shop that has queues of customers extending to outside sometimes! There are lots of good eating places close by plus great independent shops for quirky, and delightful goods. Cockermouth is an up and coming area and popular with tourists. It is an easy driving distance to Whinlatter Forest, Keswick and Central Lakes including Grasmere, Ambleside and Windermere. Much nicer staying in this area than the pricier areas in Keswick and Central Lakes. Also lots of walks locally just a short drive away like Buttermere etc... Thank you Debbie for pointing us in the right direction.

A hidden gem in the lake district national park, on site pub, static caravan site, pod, walking, fishing, climbing, all out door pursuits.
    Sorry strictly no pets!
This is possibly the quietest hidden vally in the western lake district once you have visited the area you will return Keswisk...8 miles Buttermere...8 miles Borrowdale...12 miles
  • Three bedrooms and one huge living room with attached kitchen, this place would be great for a big family or a couple of families' get-away in the most beautiful part of the Lakes District. (A bit too big for just two people this time.)

    Zoe2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is great apartment in a small village in a beautiful area. It was bigger than I thought it would be yet extremely cozy and well decorated and set up. The pub downstairs is very good, with great food. The mulled cider was perfect for a December night. I very happily ate their every night. It should be noted that although it is above the pub, noise is not really an issue. You can maybe hear some voices during the evening but nothing too loud or disturbing, I was fast asleep by 9pm both nights in the super comfy bed. 😊 I’ll be very happy to book here again the next time I’m hiking in the area.

  • Lovely home in a picturesque location. Mark and Kayleigh were brilliant hosts, who made us feel at home. I would definitely recommend

  • Enjoyed our stay above the pub, well located for walking.

  • Spacious accommodation over a great pub - superb beer and food. Excellent hosts - well equipped flat with very comfy beds. Brilliant location in one of the best valleys in the Lakes. Highly recommended.

    Colin2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed 2 nights at Mark's place for a friends wedding. It was in a perfect location very close to the venue. Had an excellent meal in the pub downstairs and would definitely stay here again.

    Jason2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for holiday and the location is perfect for visitors willing to enjoy nature. The pub also provides excellent food which is a real bonus.

    Laurence2019-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • This place is just perfect for a walking holiday in the Lake District. A short drive from all the top destinations such as Catbells and Castlerigg Stone Circle, with convenient parking on site. The pub is friendly and welcoming, with its own beer and a great food menu including veggie/vegan options. You also get use of a private back entrance. The flat is very spacious and beautiful traditional English, nice and warm and well insulated from the pub downstairs (you can hear mumbled conversations until 10pm, then it's silent). There's a full kitchen, very well equipped. The bathroom is slightly separate but private and I really appreciated a piping hot bath after a day of hill climbing. Overall, a great deal! The perfect place to really stretch out and enjoy yourself even for longer periods. DEFINITELY recommend it for families and groups.

Built around 1780 the perfect cosy country hide away for 2. Situated in a quiet village 3 miles from the Lake district National park, less than 4 miles from the Georgian gem town of Cockermouth and 6 miles from the Solway coast the variety of scenery and activities are endless. It's our pleasure to share our lovingly modernised cottage which blends original features such as ex-ships Oak beamed roof and stone fire place with everyday modern comforts eg. Wifi, fitted kitchen and central heating.
The cottage is self contained and guests are provided with a complimentary welcome pack that includes tea, coffee, sugar, hot chocolate and milk .There is parking available outside or in an off road communal park 15 metres away.
Perfectly located between the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the fells and lakes of the Lake District National Park and the unspoilt Solway coast an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This quiet village location offers a change from the busy tourist hotspots of Keswick and Ambleside whilst still having the beauty of the surrounding local area with country walks starting from outside your front door . Though there is no shop or pub within the village itself, there is a pub serving excellent food which is also dog friendly in the next village and the town of Cockermouth is only 4 miles away. For history lovers the neighbouring village of Eaglesfield can claim to be the birth place of John Dalton proposer of the modern Atomic theory and Fletcher Christian of Mutiny on the Bounty fame.If you are here to see the Lakes themselves Loweswater, Buttermere, Crummock water, Ennerdale water, Bassenthwaite and Derwent water are all within a 20 minute drive. Further afield the historic city of Carlisle ,Gretna Green, the Southern Lake District and the UNESCO World heritage site of Hadrians wall can be reached in around 1 hour by car.
  • A beautiful cottage amazingly comfortable and cosy. Could not have picked a better place to stay for a quiet weekend away. The host thought of absolutely everything we could possibly need even down to the smallest details. The communication Howard and his family had with us was brilliant instant replies and very detailed. We will be returning sooner rather than later.
