Just booked in Bluefields

Our newest addition to Goodhope retreat. Although smaller than our main cabin, it has a wonderful layout with a big front veranda and a bathroom attached with outside shower. All hardwood to construction from local sources. The bed is the same queen size that is in our main cabin.
  • This was simply the best vacarion me and my friend have been on our whole life (20 years but stilll) Sean and Geneva are incredible hosts and their kids are the sweetest. We will definetly come back❤️

  • We had a very nice stay at Sean's place! The good we got way excellent - thanks to Sean's wife! The place is very peaceful and a perfect place to relax! Around the cabin you just find nature, nature and nature :-)! Thanks for everything Sean & all the best!

  • The cabin is beautiful and the view is the most amazing view you'll probably ever experience. We stayed for 2 nights it felt like the perfect amount of time to be there, we relaxed, enjoyed the view and walked/hiked to the local little store. Sean is a great host and his wife Geneva cooks really delicious food, the food is 25$ per person per day this includes breakfast and dinner - there is nowhere else to eat nearby but the foods so good you wouldn't want to eat elsewhere. We were a bit rushed out at the end of the stay but I think it was a one-off bit of cunfusion. I would highly recommend this place!

    Sinéad2016-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a hidden gem!!! By far the best value for price we have ever experienced. My girlfriend and I stayed here for 7 days during Christmas Break, and Sean and his wife Geneva did everything they could to make us feel at home. The cabin is completely hand-crafted with every comfort you can think of, a nice patio with an amazing view of the jungle and the Caribbean sea, spacious bed with a mosquito net and a bathroom with an amazing outdoor shower (hot water worked perfectly!) for a spectacular nature experience. Make sure to purchase the $25 per person per day mealplan including coffee and freshly picked tropical fruits plus typical Jamaican breakfast in the morning and dinner at night. Both meals are served with different freshly pressed fruit juices right on this amazing patio. The location is a bit remote; 30 car minutes from the main road down at sea level with not many other food options. However, you would not want to eat anywhere else anyways as Geneva is an amazing cook and the cabin being remote adds a wilderness factor and of course it is very quite and peaceful as well. Sean's friendly driver Ron is also available at all times for airport pickup, necessity purchases and day tours. We recommend to use Ron for airport pickup as the roads in that area are in a very bad condition and it might be a little challenging to find the location. Overall an amazing place to experience the real Jamaica!

  • Absolutely the most remarkable stay during our week long trip to Jamaica. The drive up the mountain was so very worth it. It felt like we were teleported to another world. So scenic. So peaceful. So very friendly. Sean was an amazing host and an incredibly genuine and friendly person. The optional meal package was a massive bonus. It was great to try some home cooked Jamaican food, all with that million-dollar view on our doorstep. Absolutely superb.

    Dwayne2016-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • My wife an I spent 5 wonderful days at Sean's cabin and really had a fantastic time. The cabin is on a beautiful mountain with a stunning view. We felt like we were part of the family and enjoyed talking to Sean, his wife and children, and even their dogs! Sean could not have been a better host and he was responsive to every request. Make sure you get the meal plan to enjoy home cooked Jamaican food prepared by Geneva. Ron was great as a driver and tour guide too. We saw life in Jamaica in a way many never do thanks to him. Take a trip to the nearby attractons--waterfall, caves, Black River, Bluefields beac Park and even Peter Tosh's home.

    Larry2017-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Sean was a great host and communication was excellent. This place is off the beaten path but we'll worth the long drive. Would highly recommend.

  • The Wilton house is a great place to feel the beauty of Jamaica. The garden is lovely, and the water is beautiful. The hosts are generous and available. They made our stay comfortable. They provided us with fruits and necessities, and the guys really appreciated the fact that they could do laundry. A short drive to Negril, if you wanted to do some activities. So we balanced out the quiet day of much need rest and relaxation at the House, with dining with friends in Negril. Our visit was during some renovations, which didn't disturb us, but I strongly believe that more accommodations are to come. CONS: the kitchen was very small. and the main wifi was down, and the alternative was weak, so all the work we planned on doing, didn't occur. But the grounds, and the bed, and water made up for the lack of productivity, in that it forced leisure time on me.

A private cabin in lush gardens. Our "artist cabin" is the perfect choice for someone looking for a good budget cottage with a view of the Caribbean.
  • Absolutely breathtaking view and lovely accommodations. The road up the mountain is quite frightening if you're driving, but well worth it. Would love to visit again. Thanks!

    Kelly2016-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was pretty gorgeous and quite comfortable with a nice sense of seclusion in the mountains. It gives you a great look into mountain living in Jamaica that mosts tourists never see. The dinner and breakfast Sean and his wife made us was delicious and highly recommendable to get the meal option with your stay! Be sure to stare at the stars at night. They're breathtaking if you're from the city.

  • What a wonderful family run retreat. I went to get away from a stressful work environment and being around such beautiful scenery snd such kind people was nice. Sean and his family were the best and the cottage was like something from the garden of Eden. I recommend it highly!

  • I can't say enough about our stay with Sean. The cabin was beautiful, clean, and quiet. The food was delicious, and unique every meal. But nothing beats the VIEW! It was spectacular. I will be back!!

  • Sean and his family were the most amazing hosts! The view from our cabin was amazing, Gen's home cooking was delicious, and we can't wait to go back! The price is an absolute steal, it's easily worth double what we paid. It was a bit of an adventure getting there, but so well worth it.

    Alice2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Sean's place was beautiful! As you can tell from the photos, there's an amazing view. We loved the peace and serenity. The dinner + breakfast were both AMAZING and so perfect. We loved waking up to coffee and fruit and then ackee and veggies. Dinner was incredible--goat curry the night we were there. Everything was amazing and I'm so glad we got to visit.

  • Couldn't ask for a better host. Mel makes you feel right at home and is very accommodating. The property is so peaceful and serene. She takes a lot of pride in her plants and flowers which gives the place a great vibe. If you want a quiet, peaceful and relaxing trip in the heart of Jamaica, this place is a hidden gem!!! We will definitely be back ☺️

  • So grateful to have come across this gem! Melessia and her family were awesome & very accommodating. Mel worked with us and made sure we were comfortable the time

    jaffrea2017-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • It was a wonderful experience at Melessias place. Already on arrival, she had a strong interest in our needs and even came out against us because we could not find the way in the dark. We arrived in the middle of the night, no problem. On arrival we were by telephone and (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) well in contact. The half-hour journey from the coast road to the hut in the mountains is difficult because of the bad road condition. However, the efforts are rewarded by the oasis that you find in the middle of a farm. The cottage is located in the middle of fruit and vegetable plants, palm trees and exotic flowers. Screened, quiet and surrounded by hummingbirds. A dream for nature lovers and people seeking peace. There is no street noise. The people from the village are very quiet and reserved, cars are heard only a few a day. You can be carried away completely by the birdsong and the rustle of the wind in the leaves. You can use fruit and vegetables from the farm. The avocados can be picked up from the ground. Delicious and without chemical pesticides! Also delicious coffee is grown in organic quality on the farm. Just ask… The cottage has everything you need. The shower in the bathroom was not ready yet. But I would anyway prefer the fantastic shower in the garden under palm trees. The water is warm. Activities: the drive to the beach to Bluefield takes about half an hour. The beach is large and clean, offers shade and the water is very warm. You are not bothered by sellers, as is the case in other areas. And it also does not cost an entrance fee. From the hut you can make wonderful hikes. Just follow the road. Or you can search the paths that go through the jungle or the beach. At night, it cools down at a height of 700 meters, so that it is still pleasant to walk in the morning until 09: 00/10: 00. Melessia and your family are very kind hosts, who help with advice and action. We felt really welcome. Melessia cooks a delicious dinner as desired with vegetables and chickens from the farm for $ 20 for 2 people. I can only recommend this. Thank you Mel for the great time. We will be back.

Shades Cottage is situated in a safe and secured neighborhood with friendly neighbors and a fresh and quiet atmosphere.
  • I absolutely love Shades Cottage Guesthouse! Newton "Bigga" Johnson and his family treated my friends and I like we were their long lost family members. They showed us nothing but love! We ate a fresh breakfast and a traditional Jamaican dinner every night and it was deee-licious! Bigga's place is a SAFE countryside paradise it has fruit trees, hammocks, chickens in a chicken coop and a 5min walk to the beach. I had a different smoothie daily from one of the fruit trees (mmm mmm good). I celebrated my birthday at Shades Cottage and Bigga, Gwen (Bigga's wife) and his daughters helped to make that day the best birthday ever! Thanks again Bigga & Gwen!!!! I will never stay in an all-inclusive again! Bigga showed us the "real side" of Jamaica. He took us cruising down the Black River, zip lining over waterfalls, swimming in caves and much much more. He has an unlimited amount of things for his guest to do. I've been to Jamaica three times before and this trip will go down as my best trip ever! All I know, is that, I will be back to Jamaica sooner than later and for now on I will be staying at Shades Cottage Guesthouse.

Newton and bis Family are very Friendly and deliver good Local food , Drinks and the best banana shake i have ever Drunk! The town is very little but Newton offers some Good Trips for his guess!

  • Newton and his family are totally relaxed and nice. If you really want to experience Jamaica and see much things from the country you are right in Sades Cottage. Newton offers transportation in his minibus for getting around and he knows a lot about the country and know a lot of people. If you really want experienced things that do not get to see any. The breakfast as well as lunch and dinner a wish that his wife Gwen is prepared according to typical Jamaican recipes delicious and to get a fair price. Similarly, there are delicious even squeezed juices and snacks and drinks at the small bar in the grounds where the meals are cooked and the whole family life takes place. The environment and the beach in Bluefield are fantastic. The smallest is only 100m from the house, after 5 min. walk to the village to reach a larger public, clean and very idyllic beach, there is also the birthplace of Peter Tosh. We were with 4 hosts in Jamaica and I must say, with Bigga we have seen and experienced most of this beautiful country. Thanks again for everything!

  • First off, I think its most important to say that I am a single lady travelling and this home felt safe and comfortable and I would suggest it to any single person, couple or family too. Coming from the tourist craziness of Negril and 7 mile beach, Newton’s was where I feel like I actually started to relax and catch the cool and laid back vibes of the real Jamaica. I found the direct sun and heat in Jamaica difficult, but the yard here was super comfortable- I had a nice big shaded private balcony where I spend a whole lazy afternoon laying on a comfy couch on that balcony, smoking, reading, napping and listening to the nature. There is also a nice bar set up in the middle of the yard for meals and hanging out which was also very comfortable seating with a Jamaican feel and the birds to watch frolic and flaunt. I loved the animals! The lizards, the birds, the dogs, goats and RED firefly’s at night! I have a pretty big fear of birds but they did not interfere with me at all and Newton’s directed me how to avoid situations that may get to me. It worked I loved them from a healthy distance I think the best part of staying with Newton is that he really made me feel like my vacation time was geared to me specifically. I had an interest in the plants and trees and I’m very interested in culture and construction. Every opportunity he would show me things that fell into those interests, he taught me about the native trees and fruits and veggies (many right in his own yard). I was able to try first hand fresh plantain, callaloo, achee, jelly coconut, some kind of amazingly different apple, and maybe my fav.. nasberry! (or nesberry?? Lol) I had the chance to ask tons of questions about the building and clearing of land and architecture, learn about the native wood and uses for it… and well I could just go on and on… I’m curious and I REALLY appreciated that I felt I could just ask him anything and he would share his understanding freely I could be myself and be free to enjoy whatever experience my heart desired. On the bad side, I broke his sink! Awe, honest mistake and it was repaired promptly and he didn’t make me feel bad at all for the accident. There is no hot water and very low water pressure but he advertised as such and so no surprise. The $200 hotel I stayed at didn’t have hot water or any water pressure and they actually didn’t have water for 2 days and they advertised that as a benefit so again, great review for Newton’s place because I got exactly what I expected! Newton was the man that inspired me that Jamaica was the destination vacation I would enjoy and now after staying at shades cottages, this is the experience that makes...

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Newtons. What was not to love. Newton met us at the airport for a very reasonable fee despite our late plane. He was knowledgeable and helpful in terms of showing us about the local area as well as offering to take us further afield and struck exactly the right balance between helping us out and allowing our privacy. It was reassuring to know he would drop us and pick us up or take us out to places if we needed him to for very reasonable money. Gwen and their daughters dealt with our daily needs beautifully. Made us ginger tea when we were poorly and cooked lovely meals including locally caught fish for us if we requested them. They as well struck exactly the right balance between being helpful and allowing us our privacy and it was a pleasure to be around them quietly getting on with their family life and daily chores. The local area is lovely both Belmont (walking distance) and Bluefields (a short drive) beaches were stunning with their own scene happening and places to eat freshly cooked fish and lobster meals and always great music. The accommodation was basic and comfortable and we enjoyed sitting on the lovely and comfortable porch observing the beautiful garden and the wildlife. I would highly recommend it to anyone and would definitely return.

  • Newton is an amazing host and his wife/children amazing cooks. He will share tips with you, help you find the best option around and will tell you about the place with great pleasure. The cottage is spacious and comfortable. The kitchen isn't really equipped but you won't need it because of how good the plates Bigga's wife make. We would definitly recommend.

    Mathieu2017-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Bigga is this awesome rastafari man. He and his family took great care of us for a month because we did research in Bluefields. He took us on tours to the pelican bar, a rastafari man who lived in the hills and black river watersafari. We had amazing conversations about people and Jamaica and he knows a lot of people in the surroundings. This also added to our feeling of safeness because if we met anyone we could just go to Bigga an check whether he is a good person or not. This helped us stay away from some and trust some others. His garden is great, he has alle these kind of mangos, peppers, nessberrys, pomegranate, jackfruit, breadfruit and much more growing there. It is a wonder there. Small things that we didn't expect was that there is only cold water. So not for showering, washing the dishes or clothes. This wasn't so bad because of the whether just a head's up. The hostel is run b Bigga and his great family who are so friendly and helped us a lot. While we were there they had these adorable puppies, so cute! So thank you Bigga and family we loved our stay. So happy we didn't stay in a big city. So much better to fall asleep to the sound of crickets versus the sound of cars in for example Mobay or Kingston. Oh and there is this very western bar across the street Luna good for a glass of wine. And a beach about 5 min walk which is free!

    Jessica2017-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • Newton 'Bigga' was so hospitable from the get go. We took a bus from Kingston to Savannah lar mar, about 20 minutes from his property. He picked us up from the bus stop and drove us to pick up some dinner. His family are beautiful. They offer amazing home cooked meals, we had something different for breakfast and dinner each day, with fresh juices. We got treated to limeade and banana bread! The little cottage is very comfortable, plenty of room and hammocks in the yard to chill out. It is a short walk to a lovely beach. We also recommend the 'crab shack' down the road for delicious food if you want to head out. Bigga knows everything about the area, and offers tours to Black river, Pelican Bar, YS falls and Appleton Estate. We paid $80US to the guide who took us to black river and Pelican Bar and another $80US to Bigga for transport for two of us. We really loved our stay here, and would love to return one day.

  • We stayed in the little hut, it was very sweet and comfy. The outdoor shower is lovely and refreshing. Belmont has a very beautiful beach a 10min walk away. With great bars and ital food. Great to see the real Jamaica away from tourists. Gatty is a lovely host and has a very sweet dog and kitten. There are cute lizards and beautiful hummingbirds. There are mosquitos, so bring spray.

Lydia was the perfect host, she did everything to feel us comfortable; organized a pick up from Sav, gave us good advices for tours and made a campfire at the beach with the guests. Everything was perfect and we will definetly stay there at soon as possible again.

  • Every time I travel I venture away from tourism and toward the less traveled areas. I'm either lucky or wise in my choices :) and my stay at the "Bamboo Palace" was a top notch experience. I had such a great stay with Lydia (who is also called Gatty by the neighbors and yes, everyone knows who she is). The cottage is a clean and lovely room, simple with a comfortable bed, a thatch roof and mosquito net and ambient lighting. Inside the cottage there is a shelf with a teapot to arrange your necessities and a table with a lamp and outlets to charge your phone and whatnot. I've heard people in the US describe similar set-ups as "glamping" but this is much nicer and secure within the gates of Gatty's yard with the main house and guest house. The yard is thoughtfully designed and the grounds are beautifully gardened. A few other details. There is with a full bathroom adjacent to the cottage with shower, sink and toilet (you'll want a sarong or robe for the few steps outside to get to the bath). I was out a lot during my several day stay and Gatty was very cordial and inquired about how I was doing, offered me soup the night I arrived and coffee in the morning. I'd rented a car and she helped me to park my car properly when I returned. While there are a few resorts on the seaside, Gatty's yard is located in a neighborhood amongst the locals. The advantage here being the ambient sound of the roosters and music and people going about their day and evening as opposed to the sound of traffic on the road. There are small shops with essentials, fruits and vegetables and quite a few small clubs and restaurants along the way. The other guests at the Natural Mystic Cottages were fabulous folks who invited me out for a walk, leading us to the grounds where Peter Tosh is buried, sampling peanut and coconut drops, looking at the local fisherman's boats and watching the pelicans before a delicious breakfast prepared on the beach by "I&I" (aka Stumpy) who is an amazing cook. Very nearby was the vast and quiet Bluefields Beach as well as the Bluefields River. Trips to YS Falls, the bamboo highway Pelican Bar built on the reef were within easy reach with my car, but local transport can also be arranged as I understand it. Stay here and enjoy the perfect blend of safety and remoteness from the tourist grind.

  • Lydia was a lovely host. She was engaging and had good stories to share and information about the area. When we stayed, there were 2 rentable units on the property. We were in the hut, not the cottage. It is essentially a bed in a shack. Although the bed is very comfortable, there was not enough room to open our bags or move around freely in the hut. There was also no fan and it was quite stuffy with lack of air flow. There were also quite a few cockroaches running around. The bathroom was shared with the cottage, and acted as an ensuite from their unit. The lock for that door was on the inside of their place, so we couldn't "lock them out". The shared bathroom situation was quite uncomfortable, due to the lack of privacy and space. There is also no sound proofing between the bathroom and their room. We ended up leaving after one night. The property is gorgeous and lush and you feel like you're in a private jungle, and maybe we would have been happier if the cottage was available, however the hut was definitely not compatible with 2 adults who like some breathing room.

  • Lydia's property is true to the wonderful description she provides on Airbnb. My stay in the bamboo palace was everything I wanted and more. A truly magical experience. I returned home feeling inspired and hope to return someday. She is an exceptional host. A kind person who is knowledgeable and caring. This was my first experience in Jamaica. As a young woman traveling alone, safety is always a concern, but I never felt unsafe in Lydia's care. I was given the opportunity to see and experience real Jamaican life, and that was priceless.

  • If you are traveling with the aim to connect local people, respect their culture and nature, this is surely a perfect place! Natural Mystic Cottages is located in the middle of rastafarian community, not far from coastline and beaches. Lydia is most kind when you need some suggestions where to go and how to get there. Cottages are so so beautiful and colorful, surrounded by exotic trees and flowers. Highly recommended authentic experience!!

  • My wife and I stayed at this private beach house for four days and had a great time. We were the first Airbnb guests to stay here and drove our rented car from Montego Bay. Waking up in the morning to a beautiful view of the bay with two or three fishing boats heading out to sea, going down to the beach with a cup of coffee and then taking a swim was wonderful. Kayaks are also available. Our bedroom and en suite bathroom/shower were large, clean and brightly furnished. We also had access to a kitchen with stove, microwave, and all cookware, dining room, and living room. We cooked some of our meals at the beach house. Wi-fi connectivity is excellent in the main living room of the attached house. The house also has an excellent library of books about Jamaican history, including Philip Gosse's classic 1844 description of Jamaican plants and birds. Bubbles, the onsite manager, is a wealth of knowledge about Jamaican life, local sights, guides and tours. He recommended Mayfield Falls which is spectacular but a little hard to find, and an extraordinary boat ride far up the Black River (much further than the larger tour boats go) to Sister Lou's and Cheese Rock, and then to the Pelican Bar with "Taga" aka Teddy, a local guide par excellance. We also purchased a day pass at Sandals Whitehouse and enjoyed their water sports (ironically, we had a sailing lesson from Teddy's son, Ted) and had lunch and dinner. I would certainly return to Bluefields and stay here again.

  • The Rainbow Villa is a perfect place. The romms and the property are very nice. Thanks to our hosts we had a very good time especially at our boat trip to the reef. The accomodation is exactly aus descriped and I would definitivly come back to the rainbow Villa and the nice people in Belmont.

    Sabine2016-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Rainbow Villas. Belmont is a cute little village with a beautiful (!!) beach but you can tell it is not designed or developed for tourism at all. You will be meeting lots of locals (thank you to Raphaelle who showed us around!) and there probably won't be too many other tourists around. Carlene recommended a snorkeling trip with one of the local fishermen (Erol, awesome guy) to the reef nearby and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Day trips to Black River or other attractions can be organized too. Our room was well equipped with a kitchenette incl. fridge, private bath and the ceiling fan was great for hot tropical nights. Rainbow Villa offers an inviting yard with lawn chairs and space to hang out for guests - we felt at home very quickly and had no safety concerns as the property is fully fenced and locked up at night. So overall we enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely recommend Rainbow Villa and Belmont to someone who is not necessarily looking for 1001 restaurant choices and bars with live music but for a more authentic Jamaican experience. Didn't see a bank or ATM there either but there is a supermarket at the other end of town.

  • We highly recommend Rainbow Villas to anyone who wants to spend some quiet time in Jamaica and just enjoy the island, feeling safe and welcome but without the crowd and craze of popular tourist areas. If we are back to Jamaica (very likely), then we'll definitely stay here again! If you want to explore real Jamaica, don't like the resorts and crowded tourist areas but still want to feel safe and like at home, then visit Belmont - and stay at Carlene and Ralf's place! We enjoyed our stay very much, one of the kids (10) said it's like being at home, felt just as natural to him. The very friendly german shepherd might helped with that, and our son had a great time playing with the dog. Our hosts were very nice and offered to lock up the dog if it bothered us, but it was rather the opposite, and we never heard him bark once. Carlene and Ralf were super hosts, very friendly but never intrusive, offered lot of local info and help, and when they had a small party with all the other guest but we went to bed early they offered to quite things down whenever we'll need it - and indeed they turned the music down the very second we asked. Carlene set us up with a horseback ride tour, which was nothing like your typical organized tour with two dozen participants - it was an awesome private tour just for my wife and our daughter, on a breathtaking property. And Ralf organized with a local fishermen to take us all out to a coral reef for snorkeling - the best experience we had during the entire trip. again, it was a private trip, just our host and the fishermen and us, at a very affordable price, but more importantly it was just such a great, friendly experience. Not to mention how beautiful the reef was... The room was exactly as described, communication was great, we got lot of help and advice, and everything was just smooth.

This is the Only little private boutique resort we know of that offers the opportunity for you to spend day after day taking in the beauty of a coral reef filled with a variety of marine life. Some of the guests even swim out and back, that is how close it is. Imagine having a 'private reef' to yourself with access to kayaks to use. All you need to do is bring your snorkel gear and you get to see the glories of a living coral reef, right in you front yard.

If we have organized an airport transfer driver for you, Horizon is within walking distance to several eateries (to go shacks - to proper sit down/eat-in restaurants): • RICHARD’s is directly across the street that makes good fried chicken and fish • DORRETT’S, a 3+ min walk makes great crab cakes and curried lobster • LUNA SEA, a 7+ minute walk is a new bar/resturaunt There are also handful of small cook shops, rum bars, steam fish/jerk/soup shops within a 15 min. walk on the main road outside the property gates. LEROY’S BAR on the waterfront just before Belmont Square is a lovely place to watch the sun go down and does delicious steamed fish. THE BREADFRUIT PUB just opposite also does great fish to order as well as other meat and seafood dishes. BLUEFIED’S BEACH PARK another great place for curried lobster.
  • We chose Horizon for our first trip to Jamaica and couldn't be more pleased with that decision. Everything was perfect--the cottage (beautiful little cottage and Hopie made sure it was clean and comfortable!), the view (the bluest waters I've ever seen with gentle waves), and the community. Laga is the best chef we've ever met and helped us in many ways by answering questions and showing us around. Hopie made our stay so special. We had the opportunity to walk around and meet some of the locals and I'm so glad we did! Everyone we met was kind and welcoming. If you're thinking about visiting the Island and want a true Jamaican experience, do not pass up a stay at Horizon. You won't regret it! Be sure to ask Clive or Trevor catch you some fish or lobster--delicious! We really hope to be back some day. One love.

  • This place is a perfect Jamaican getaway on the south coast. The stay was perfect, the view really couldn't be any better - your own private beach right at your doorstay. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, the place was clean with very artistic and natural décor. an even better that how it looks on the pictures. Peaceful, relaxing, safe, cozy, comfortable, natural. Perfect spot - highly recommended. The cook shop across the street makes quality Jamaican food. Laga is also an excellent cook, get some fish from him. Good location to do day trips to YS falls and Pelican bar etc. This was probably my favourite vacation accommodation ever.

  • It was great. Three lovely days enjoying the blue waters, local vibe... just perfect! rustic, quiet, nice local street dance down the road if u want to mingle, or just stay trapped in the rustic cabin hearing the waves break and watching the stars in absolute silence, a small super market across the street allows u to buy some groceries u may have forgotten...the fishermen can get u nice fish for ur stay... fresh, fresh!!! just paradise!

    Carmen2017-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • The place was amazing, over the sea, kayak available and a little beach with no clear waters but possible to swim. Some places very close for lunch or dinner, and supermarket just across the road. The owner was never contacted, but there was someone at the property taking care of the place, and waiting for us at the arrival. Too much noise coming from the music on the road on saturday night and sunday, what really made loose the good vibe at the site. Note that we were advised about the 40 usd tipe for the cleaning after the reservation.

  • Wow wow wow, a little piece of heaven. I'd never been to Jamaica before and this was the best introduction ever! The house was situated in the most perfect private beach you could imagine and the people looking after me were incredible. Hopi was gorgeous and did everything to make my stay comfortable. Shirley was lovely and helped me prepare for my week. Clive was very nice and kept the yard looking great. Lagga was my hero and couldn't have been more perfect guide for me, he showed me the countryside introduced me to some amazing people and taught me all about the local herbs, trees and plants. He also took me out to sea where I experienced the most beautiful reefs. Go! I'll be going back every year, forever!! Thanks so much!!

This is a one-of-a-kind a place to stay in Jamaica. Situated on top of the mountain it provides a different experience than being on the coast. Sitting on the patio you are overwhelmed by the tropical forest and sea beyond.
Good Hope Retreat is a private artists retreat now open to the public. It consists of three extraordinary hand-crafted wood, island cabin-style houses on an estate of four acres, situated majestically in the high Mountains of Westmoreland, Jamaica. Our retreat is off-the-beaten track, amid lush vegetation, with our Jamaican hills overlooking the island's South Coast. Our sunset from this vantage point, 700 meters (2100 feet) above sea level, is an exclusive nightly spectacle of beauty. Cool evenings and warm but moderate daytime temperatures, individuals with heightened appreciations of natural wonders and phenomenon will be inspired to no end by all that is to be found and re-discovered in the rural tradition of Good Hope Retreat.
This may be the best part of your stay here at Goodhope, our neighborhood is one of the most friendliest you will find in Jamaica. Most of our guest enjoy walking around and talking to the people here. You can join some farmers at the rum bar for a drink. Or just start a conversation with some of children on the way to school. We have never had anybody harass our guest or worse yet steal anything. If you check out some reviews you will notice that people feel safer here than in other resort (website hidden) we also have a lot of vegetable and herb farmers.

  • My stay at the cottage was wonderful. The natural surroundings and handcrafted cottage were as tranquil and peaceful as one would imagine. The views definitely do not translate in the pictures it is a must see!! The hosts and the community of Kentucky welcomed me with friendly smiles and were extremely helpful whenever I had any questions. I miss Kentucky already!! I will be back!!

  • This place is a dream come true. I had a wonderful, restorative, restful week at Sean's cabin. The cabin itself are comfortable and have all the comforts of home including hot shower and high speed internet. The view simply can't be put into words, both during the day time and at night. Its breathtaking. The food is also a treat, authentic Jamaican cuisine delivered to your private cottage. Had a great time and can't wait to come back.

  • This was my first Airbnb experience and it was phenomenal. The house was absolutely amazing and the view of the sea was breathtaking. You are literally up in the mountains and can see the sea for what seems like miles away. Sean was a perfect host who provided us with authentic meals and was always there in case we needed anything. We were lucky enough to meet his beautiful family and also went on a walk one day and were kindly greeted by all of the locals. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and I would definitely recommend it for anyone who wants to see what Jamaica can offer, aside from the tourist attractions in Montego Bay. If you need a getaway to take a break from everyday life, this is the ideal place and Sean and his family are the best hosts anyone could ask for.

    Maria2015-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • This place is absolutely gorgeous. If you're looking for an exotic cabin with a great view, this is the place for you. Once you start going up the mountains the road is a little bit tiny, so you have to drive very slow for 4/5 miles to get to Sean's house. If you're not driving a truck or SUV, you have to leave your car at certain point and Sean come pick you up with his Jeep. We left our car with a funny and kind Sean's neighbor. You won't have any problem leaving your car there. We had an amazing dinner and breakfast made by him and his wife. Highly recommend staying here Highly recommend staying

  • Sean and Geneva welcomed us warmly to their remote, mountainside cabins over looking the sea. It's quite a trek to the small rural, safe and beautiful village of Kentucky - and well worth it. Home cooked, delicious meals are available and if you are looking for a peaceful, retreat away from the maddening crowds - this is the place. We travel with our 4 year-old, and between Sean & Geneva's children and the few we met on our walks - it was a perfect family trip. We will return! Bring a birding and tree guidebook and snacks and beverages for your fridge. There is only one shop with limited wares and its one hell of a trek to the bottom of the mountain!

    Nicole2016-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • A very disappointing experience. We never saw the cabin. This accommodation is not located in Montego Bay as listed. It is actually in the parish of Westmoreland. We drove for 2 hrs over good road and then a further 1/2 hr over dreadful road uphill. We were met by Sean and 3 of his male friends who offered to carry our luggage etc further uphill while we walk by foot to the location. We were asked to leave our car, which was full of equipment at his neighbours house. We knew none of these people and could not imagine a further 10 min or more walk with all our belongings. We therefore turned back and drove back another 5 hours to Kingston, arriving at midnight. Unbelievable, very remote and cut off area.

    karen2016-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • This was a quiet location. Tucked away in the mountain with the most beautiful view of Jamaica! Sean was very accomadting to our needs and Genevas cooking was just too amazing for words. However it was hard to interact with the locals since it was so tucked away and you cant really explore outside the retreat by yourself without good transportation. All in all would go again!

'Higher Heights' is a fantastic and cozy upstairs room with veranda and great sea view.
Steep stairs take you up to the veranda of 'Higher Heights', the room with a view, and it's a fantastic one! You can watch the sun sinking into the see and watch the stars at night. The room has a double bed (a single bed for a third person can be added) with mosquito net, shelves for your belongings and a small table and 2 chairs for the veranda. You have some dishes and a water heater to make your own tea or coffee. There is a shared bathroom downstairs.
In our neighborhood you can experience the real Jamaican life with all its ups and downs. It's easy to get in contact with the people around and they will love to teach you how to play dominoes or dance the Jamaican style, and they're always willing to help with anything you want.
  • Beautiful place far from the noise. Lots of nature. 10 min walk from the main road. Lydia is so cool and helpful.

  • This is an amazing spot that I can easily call perfect. I thought I would have to get acclimated to the outside bathroom facilities but it's so scenic and quiet and secluded that you find ways to extend your outside shower activities. Lydia is awesome too and I couldn't ask for a more understanding and accomodating host. If you're the least bit intrigued about staying here, take the chance! I guarantee you won't have any regrets. Just a desire to stay there longer.

  • Very nice combination of a hidden and green place located in a real jamaican village neighbourhood. Small shops and bars are nearby. As it is uphill you have to walk a few minutes down to the calm and sandy beach. The room higher heights has a view to the sea and the surrounding trees so that you can relax on the balcony and chill out for yourself and have a impression of jamaican nature and village life. It was a nice place to stay and enter the jamaican way of life. Lydia received us nicely and gave us relevant tips for a nice stay in belmont.

    Calle2017-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • We really fell in love with Lydia's cottage: The room itself which is so lovely painted and decorated, the great view from the veranda of 'higher heights', the people from Belmont who are so friendly and helpful, the small beach with its delicious street restaurants, the 'nature tour' with Brian,... We can only recommend it! If you don't have problems with maybe waking up because of some chickens in the morning and you're not afraid of an roofless bathroom, we think you'll also love it. For us this really felt like the 'real Jamaika'!

  • Lydia's place is great and she's an amazing host! Right in the heart of Belmont, walking distance to shops, restaurants, and bars. We enjoyed our time and conversations with Lydia (or Getty as she's known in Belomont)! She's lived there for a long time so she had great recommendations and tips about the area. She's a very warm person and easy to talk to. Things we loved about Belmont: King's Bar on the beach, live music on Sunday night, the jerk spot with Omar at the river, Peter Tosh Memorial, and meeting and talking to SO many friendly and lovely people in the town. Everyone is incredibly welcoming and kind. The place is upstairs in a cool cabin, and the bathroom is downstairs, so be prepared to climb up and down! Easy enough! Also worth noting that there's no bank/ATM in Belmont so make sure you get your cash in Sav La Mar or elsewhere before you come. If you get in a pinch, Luna By The Sea takes cards and will sell you a six pack of Red Stripe! They also said they occasionally do cash back, if the owner is around. Thank for everything Getty! See you soon I hope.

  • Jamaica is more then the commercials you see on TV or the adds that flash on your computer screen. The real vibe, spiritual sensation, warm Community, tranquil beaches and brilliant skies can be found in Belmont. But most of all, enjoying a piece of paradise can be found on the grounds of the Rainbow Villas. Blessed with a tone of vibrant Jamaican sounds pulsing from the villas quarters, its as if you know right then and there your vacation has started. As soon as you walk into this captivating environment you're quick to understand what Jamaica is truly about. As you're greeted with warmth and solidarity, the butterflies in your stomach relax and the swing of things are quick to come to play. JAMAICA JAMAICA Finally after all the flights, hustle, bustle and tired-some ways. You can relax. The quarters are as comfortable as any home you would create yourself, equipped with everything you need to take care of yourself while staying in Belmont. BONUS was the HOT SHOWERS, throughout the island you will find having a cold to house temperature shower is common in Jamaica. Rainbow Villas provided that extra relief after being out all day and night. This spectacular environment is ran by a true Rasta Empress, her marvellous warm hearted Husband and son that is the life of the party. Belmont is one of the only secured place I felt comfortable leaving my gated quarters at 2am and walking the beach or road. The people and community of Belmont / Bluefields are what Jamaica stands for. They are all there to provide you with the most authentic experience you seek and desire in Jamaica. Excellent beach, cheap food and drinks, as mostly all locals reside there. For all my ital food lovers you must check out Natural VIBES on the beach, Stumpy will cook and cater to you all day and night with exotic fruits and traditional Jamaican cuisine. (3 meals, drinks, fruits, and extras for an average of $10USD a day) My stay started with one night that was quick to extend until my stay in Jamaica depleted. Belmont is on a route taxi highway, for $3USD, 2 route taxis and a quick stop in SAV, you can get to Negril in 40 mins. Belmont is an idea location for family, friends and first timers trying to relax in Jamaica. As you are still close to all attractions, but away from the hustlers and fast pace of the cities. Rainbow Villas is now a traditional location I will continue to come, visit, time and time again. Belmont is a second home, and great to feel the VIBES of the people and how much happiness is in such a small place.

Imagine having a 'private reef' to yourself with access to kayaks to ride on. All you need to do is bring your snorkel gear and you get to see the glories of a living coral reef, right in you front yard.
This is the Only little private boutique resort we know of that offers the opportunity for you to spend day after day taking in the beauty of a coral reef filled with a variety of marine life. Some of the guests even swim out and back, that is how close it is. Sea Ranch Cottage (cottage closest to the ocean) and Rasta Ranch Cottage sit directly on the water, with a small sandy beach just steps from your door. Each furnished cottage features a large living/dining porch with privacy shades, a ceiling and table fanned bedroom with queen size bed, fully-equipped kitchen, private bathroom -- and unique open-air showers with reliable electric hot water, outside in a walled garden of flowering vines. Jamaican paintings, carvings and books abound. CD/radio players. Sea kayaks and seabed/floats. Outside grill, separate cookhouse with freezer-fridge and oven, should you wish to hire a local cook for marketing and dinner service. Or dine out at a handful of good little restaurants. One hour from MoBay and Negril, yet off the beaten track in a traditional fishing village, Sea Ranch and Rasta Ranch at Horizon have been featured in Caribbean Travel & Life: Jamaica's Hidden Coast. Seaside pavilion and jetty. Sea kayaking, snorkeling. Horseback riding nearby. Housekeeper, boatmen, guides, night watchman. Dinner cook, boatmen and guides available for wherever you want to explore: YS Falls, the Blue Hole Gardens, Black River. This private seaside compound in a untouristed fishing village is a favorite of artists, writers, honeymooners and adventuresome first-time visitors who come back again and again. -1 queen size bed, ceiling-fanned private bathroom -Private outdoor elec. water heated hot/cold shower in garden/sculptural walk-in showers -Completely outfitted kitchen -living-dining porches -Seaside pavilion, beach -Good swimming snorkeling in 12-15 ft waters out to 1st reef, a mile out in bay -Housekeeper 3 times a week, nightly security -Cook available for hire for dinner service -Sea kayaks, sea beds for guest use -Free Wi-F "Utterly charming" says the Lonely Planet Guide to Jamaica of Sea Ranch and Rasta Ranch, "two sweet cottages in a private ocean front setting". -The famous Peter Tosh is a son of Belmont. His monument is just down the road you can walk right over to it, the locals there will show you around -- you may find his CD's or t-shirt on sale as well -here is a 26' fiberglass boat at Horizon that you can go fishing with the yardies -- Travor, Lagga and Clive -Kayak to the reef which is about 2.5 km out directly in front of horizon were you will see alot of sea life -A trip to Negril for some dinner and night life. -Walk to Mt Carey, strait up the hill will take you past the play field where the children played -- a beautiful view of the village and the sea. This is a great chance to meet the locals; farmers riding there donkey or tending there gardens, children playing, etc -Close by, the town of Savanna-la-Mar for shopping can be arranged as well -Or you can just take in the sweetness of just do nothing at all (one of mi favorite tings to do on island)
  • The kayak trip to the reef was absolutely fantastic. We stayed for hours floating around and feeling completely at one with nature.

  • Dr Linda was warm and welcoming. She treated us like old friends. We were given a better room with a beautiful deck overlooking the sea. The setting is spectacular. We loved the gazebo that juts out into the water. The chef was excellent. All of the staff were warm, welcoming, and fun to be around.

Our 3 cozy rooms can fit 2 each and are located in a beautiful exotic flowers garden on a hill with sea view just 5 min. walk from the beach. Enjoy breakfast/dinner on request or do it yourself and support the shops, bars & restaurants nearby.
The 2 cabins - 'Rasta Castle' with Jungle Shack and Higher Heights & 'Bamboo Palace' - are located in a tropical fruits and flowers garden surrounded by a bamboo fence about 5 minutes walk from the seaside. You can watch the beautiful Caribbean sunsets from the verandas of 'Jungle Shack' and 'Higher Heights'... 'Jungle Shack' has a double bed with mosquito net, basic kitchen corner, and there's a shared bathroom (with roof) and shower under the blue sky. There is plenty outside space, hammocks, a fire place, several shops are nearby, restaurants with delicious local food and lots of bars and nice places to hang out. One beautiful white sand beach is 5 minutes away, another one 15 minutes. And you are only 3 minutes away from the 'Peter Tosh Memorial'! Reggae music is a must and it's easy to get in touch with the people around. I live here since more than 30 years and as my guest(s) you can be sure to be well respected and shown the real Jamaican way of life far off the beaten tourist track. You will definitely enjoy and have fun !!!
You can find everything from shops, bars, restaurants to the hills and beach nearby - and also lots of friendly and helpful people. Jamaicans have a great love for music and parties where they always welcome our guests too.

  • This place is really rustic, not indicated in maps or GPS or near the road, and you don't have to be affraid of lezard, cochrach or moskitos. But in the other hand, this is the REAL JAMAICA EXPERIENCE! Lydia is a really noce lady, very helpful and giving nice advice. She organised for us some activities with the locals and we had amazing experience discovering jamaica from this side. Thanks for this experice we are not ready to forget! :-)

  • If you are looking for an earthy, positive place to stay while in Jamaica, THIS IS THE PLACE!! Stop your search, and book Natural Mystic Cottages! I'm a female in my 20's, and this was my first solo trip to Jamaica. Being a woman traveling alone, I was a little bit nervous staying at an air b&b in Jamaica, but this place was amazing! Getty is truly a kind and caring soul, and her cottages are very mystical. I felt at home the instant I arrived at her place. Everyone at the cottage totally clicked, and it was an awesome vibe! Natural Vibes! I I!! Some mornings we lit a fire to welcome the day and send out positive vibrations and messages for our day. The beach is a safe 5 minute walk, and that's where all of the local shops and restaurants are. We went to the Indigenous Rasta Village in Montego Bay, and listened to drumming and chanting from the Rastas, and an authentic drumming show at Treasure Beach. Getty also set me up with Belmont Basic School, so I could visit for a day to see what a Jamaican school looks like. Getty is really well connected and respected in the community, and all of the locals will watch out for you. Belmont is only 20 minutes away from Roaring River. I highly suggest you take Roaring River cave tour, and ask for the tour guide Paul or Sugar. They are really nice, honest guys, that won't rip you off. The locals are super nice, and are willing to take you into the bush (jungle), cook for you, reason with you, and make you laugh. I stayed at the Jungle Shack, and I loved it. I loved how simple and rustic it was. It's a small room, with a shower outside under the beautiful sky. I'll def be back here.

  • If you would like the real Jamaican experience then this shack is where you need to book yourself into! Beautiful nature all around with the sounds of wildlife and roosters early morning. A friendly community with a nearby beach and a local farm if you fancy studying natural herbs ! Lydia is literally footsteps away up in another shack on the hills if you need her for anything 'she is attentive to every need'. Also very welcoming and surprised me with a lovely morning breakfast (thank you) and dinner 'Ackee'. I hoped for a longer stay but had to leave so soon - I sure will visit again! Thanks,

  • This property is amazing!!! We love the ambiance, looking around it's as if your in the middle of the amazon but yet your only a short walk away from the main road and the beach. Lydia ( commonly known as Getty around these parts) is a beautiful spirit. She has a really warm, calm, kind demeanor and is extremely accommodating.

    RAMONA2016-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Yes, this is a real Jamaican experience - from the early morning roosters, the neighbor's all-day reggae music sessions to the lush vegetation on your way to get freshly cooked fish on the beachfront. We thoroughly enjoyed our Jungle Shack experience. Lydia, our hostess, was extremely pleasant and accommodating. She welcomed us wholeheartedly while allowing us to maintain our privacy. Lydia, or Gatty as we Jamaicans call her, has a good reputation in the community which manifests in the courtesy the neighborhood extends to her guests. Lydia's family - Naiyo and Liam - were also a joy to be around. We felt like we were staying with friends. So much so, we decided to stay an extra day! You will not find better value for money. The Shack was rustic yet well-designed and comfortable. We loved the outside shower!! The garden is beautiful and the beach is a 5-8 minute walk. Unfortunately, you will have to cross a big busy road to get to the beach. However, this might be the very reason the narrow strip of Belmont beachfront has not been captured by the large hoteliers. Indeed, we enjoyed the small village feel and enjoyed our daily walks. By the way, you must eat at Leroy's!!! This was our first experience in Belmont but not our last. We highly recommend Lydia's Natural Mystic Cottages. Till next time, walk good.

  • We couldn't have asked or hoped for anything better for our needs - with just a day's notice, we were able to book our room. Communication was quick, location was exactly what we needed. The property is exquisite, tropical and beautiful. There are two very sweet dogs that live on property. We were surprised to also have a small kitchenette area. This was nice for cutting our mangos and preparing our coffee. We only wish that would would have needed more than one night's stay. Would absolutely recommend and may return for future business.
