Brewery
“Basecamp Brewpub & Meadows is our pilot brewery nestled at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains where we craft our beer recipes on a traditional German designed 10 Hectoliter brewing system. We’ll pour you a pint from one of the 48 taps on property served up alongside a delicious oak wood-fired dishes. Fast-casual fare is available outside at The Oak Grill along with beer and wine at The Outdoor Bar. Inside The Shanty, we pour rare Devils Backbone beers, and a wide selection of fine spirits with a focus on whiskey and cigars. And if you’re a morning person, made-to-order breakfast and craft specialty coffees are available from The Summit. Feel free to bring your dogs over, we don’t mind. Actually, we encourage it. Just remember to keep ‘em leashed and they’re not allowed in buildings or patios where food is served.”

Coffee Shop
“There are three locations of this creative coffee shop and roastery in Durham, but the closest is straight down Geer St. Try one of their creative drinks, including a wide selection of hot chocolates. This is a lovely place to sit and take in the Durham scene. After your coffee, you can stroll around the neighborhood and visit Fullsteam Brewery, browse local goods at The Mothership, or walk to the Durham Farmers’ Market. Pro-Tip: arrive early on Saturday to beat the line. Recommended: The Dr. Durham Latte, or check out the Lakewood location for made-to-order churros!”

New American Restaurant
“Both an upmarket restaurant and a bar, 5Church is ever-growing in popularity and despite being relatively new on the scene, it has already marked itself out as one of the best eateries in the city. Offering imaginative and tasty dishes such as wasabi-crusted salmon, North Carolina mountain trout and crispy marinated tofu, the flavour combinations here are inspiring and innovative. A carefully chosen selection of local delicacies is available to order directly from the bar, best enjoyed alongside a glass of wine, champagne or with one of 5Church’s signature cocktails. The industrial design of the restaurant’s interior is expertly contrasted with the scriptures from Sun Tzu’s The Art of War that cover the ceiling adding to the uniqueness and intrigue of the establishment.”

Concert Hall
“I debated whether to put this in the Fun for Everyone or Fun for Adults Only category, but then I remembered that we took our kid to see Charlie and The Chocolate Factory here, and we all had fun. So, this gets filed here. DPAC is the region’s premier spot for Broadway productions, large concerts from well-known artists, impossibly expensive Hamilton performances, etc. If you’re not already here for a DPAC visit, check the schedule and see if there’s anything you’re into.”
