Nels' Stone Cottage is deeply embedded in the history of Big Timber, as it sits above the site of the old Woolen Mill. The home's high ceilings, aged wood floors and large windows envelop you in the feel of a much simpler time. One quickly understands why one of the town's colorful characters, Nels, lived here for almost 75 years! Recently restored by a team of folks dedicated to historical preservation, all systems have been modernized for your safety and comfort, while preserving each architectural feature, so the house can tell it's own engaging story. The home is comfortably furnished in period style. The day parlor has a small desk for our working guests, and may be closed off with French Doors for less distraction. The evening parlor invites movie watching, or reading. A fully modernized kitchen, a period bath (non wheel chair accessible), two bedrooms, two parlors, a dining room and a foyer complete the interior. Great quality beds feature organic cotton or bamboo fiber bedding. A glassed-in porch that wraps around two sides of the home invites you to enjoy your morning beverage there. Picnicking, outdoor yoga, plein air studies, bird watching, fishing and many other outdoor activities are all easily done here. From the porch, watch the magnificent bald eagles and deer that frequent the property. You have the run of all 4 acres of property, including the waterfront below the house. Fine dining is available within walking distance of the property, as it is located on the edge of town. Get out and enjoy some of the world's finest hiking, biking, or fantastic photos ops in the area during the day. Then trip down to the local eating and drinking establishments and walk home. Also, the presence of large raptors poses a danger to pets. NO PETS are allowed on or in the property. Absolutely NO SMOKING allowed in the home. Pets and smoking cause difficulties for future guests with allergy issues. A security camera is by each exterior entrance which allows us only to see who enters the house, and there are no cameras on the interior of the home, anywhere. A serene, safe little western town on the edge of one of the West's most beautiful river drainages, it is the perfect jumping off point for exploring both the Yellowstone and Boulder Wilderness areas. The Boulder River drainage has long been a haven for artists and entertainment business workers who need to reconnect with nature. Very safe residential area! Walk to the commercial district to browse art galleries, partake of four- star dining, or walk across the street to the public pool in the park. Horse shoe game pits in the park also. This area offers fantastic recreational opportunities. You can learn more by logging onto the Big Timber, MT Chamber of Commerce website. It is a wonderful site that offers tons of info about all of the recreational activities in the area.
  • Lisa was an excellent host. We had a little issue with the door lock and she was extremely helpful and very timely in getting back to us. Her little cottage is very comfortable and accommodating - well stocked. Wonderful sun porch and lovely property.

  • This was my second stay at Nel's Stone Cottage and again I enjoyed it so very much. Lisa did everything to make my stay as comfortable as possible. She even left her own crockpot at the house for me to use. Such a generous gesture. Check-in was easy and the house was cozily warm, totally clean and so welcoming that I immediately felt at home again. Thank you Lisa for making my vacation at your place so great.

  • Cute house. Great location

  • We had a great stay at this cottage when we were in Big Timber, MT. The home is spacious with two rooms, two living spaces, a kitchen and a dining area. The surrounding nature is beautiful! When my family and I stayed here, there was a snow storm and the heat suddenly stopped working. Lisa was super gracious, helping us figure it out and even offering to make the drive over to give us some space heaters. Fortunately, the heat kicked in and she didn't need to, but it's always great when your host is willing to go above and beyond for you. We will definitely stay again next time we're in the area.

  • Flossi & Len are wonderful hosts who quickly and graciously accommodated a change I needed to make. Can’t speak more highly of their hospitality. My room was clean and very comfortable, with great touches. The bed in my room might be the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in! The house itself is a fantastic renovation of a historic structure, and I really appreciated Len giving me a tour. Will definitely stay here again!

  • Warm and cozy cabin with plenty of heat source. The decor is welcoming. Plenty of appliances to prepare food and beverage. Enjoyed the atmosphere!

    Jan2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • As we were in the area for a week, we wanted a "home away from home" and this cabin offered just that. Comfortable space for the three of us with all the basic essentials. The beds were comfortable and the setting was relatively quiet and peaceful. Keep in mind you are on a working ranch and may hear moos and neighs and barks, but you will also hear birdsong and the rippling water from the creek (crick) and enjoy a nighttime sky sparkling with stars. I was in Sweet Grass County doing research for my books, and Susan went above and beyond helping me with a few special requests. She truly is a Super Host. We left Big Timber with many happy memories made warmer by Susan's genuine hospitality.

  • Susan ‘s cabin on her ranch is a wonderful place to stay! It was clean and comfortable... great location, too! It’s just 20 minutes from Big Timber. Her property is beautiful. We enjoyed morning walks to the Lower Deer Creek to see her horses. We took a 30 minute drive into the Gallatin National Forest and saw beautiful views from the top of the mountains. We took another drive into the Crazy Mountains and took a short hike to the Upper Big Timber Waterfall... absolutely wonderful! Some of our friends couldn’t resist jumping into an ice cold swimming hole! We also enjoyed a cookout with friends along the banks of the Yellowstone River just 15 minutes from the cabin. We highly recommend her place.

  • Host was so kind, cottage is adorable, and she was so knowledgeable about the local area! The beautiful and friendly farm dogs were definitely a high point ;) my only caution is that the bedroom walls don’t go all the way to the ceiling, so make sure you are staying with people you are close with haha

    Faith2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place! Susan gave us a few insider tips of places to visit and those were the best parts of the trip! It's very clear why Susan is a super host! The entire stay was fantastic, Susan helped us anyway she could. Im positive we'll be back again!

  • Richard is a great host and a kind man. You can expect the place to be just as described. It's away from town and noise. If there's a question just contact him and he will respond promptly.

  • What a comfortable, appealing cabin! I loved everything from the fresh ground coffee to the Bose stereo, fluffy white bath towels and fresh fruit cut up in the fridge. The queen bed was comfy as were the pillows and cozy covers. Would love to spend time there again! Enjoyed sitting on the porch in the peaceful breeze.

  • Beautiful place with extraordinary views. We were able to sit on the front porch one evening and watch an incredible rainstorm pass over us. Breathtaking!

    Stacy2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Such a nice place, we spent three glorious nights lulled to sleep by the sound of wind quaking the aspens outside the kitchen window. the cabin has charm but does not skimp in amenities, the bed is very comfortable and the shower, my God, I'd forgotten what real water pressure is like. The real topper is spending some time with Richard who's vast knowledge of the region and lively sense of humor was the difference between a really nice place and having an experience. Had a couple nights of sunsets that were breathtaking from our cocktail porch.

  • Amazing property! We saw wildlife each night! Cabin is perfect. Everything you need to relax, comfy beds, great shower and immaculate. Richard was such an awesome host with loads of knowledge about the area. He was great with our kids (5+7) and they keep asking when we can come back! This was a perfect end to our vacation

  • We enjoyed a real Montana experience out in the farmland. The house was uniquely styled with a western theme and the owner supplied us with breakfast goods and touring recommendations. A great experience.

    Jon2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • The location and cabin is very charming with great amenities. Richard even stocked the fridge with some breakfast foods and we had more than we needed. The cabin was super clean and more spacious than expected. Richard was a wonderful, friendly host with wealth of local knowledge; anything from hiking to great places to eat. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wish it could have been longer. Highly recommend to anyone!

  • Talk about a gem. This was a fabulous place not only for the location, but the host made our stay. First the location is fabulous nestled in aspen trees and unbeatable views of the mountains from the wrap around porch. We saw so much wild life, deer and cranes in the hay field next door, and a bald eagle down by the river. Dick the host was so knowledgeable in the area’s history and had great ideas of places to visit and see. We enjoyed some great hikes that he recommended. It was a great stay.

  • We absolutely loved this house! It was the perfect place for our family to relax and enjoy the country setting. We have relatives in Big Timber and we had plenty of space to have them over to visit and talk about the 'days gone by' of Big Timber. On a warm summer night the screened in porch (with fans!) was a great place to tell stories. Everyone remarked on the beautiful and spacious home we were lucky enough to have. We took country walks in the morning; enjoyed walking to the picturesque river and by the cows and calves down the road. When we had a question for Linda she was available immediately to take our call - that is awesome. Some of us are golfers and Overland golf course is right down the road - a really fun nine-hole course. We are fans of Pioneer Meats (bought brats to barbecue on the gas barbecue Linda has on the property!) which is also on the road into town. There were spices and staples available in the house, including great coffee (and a drip coffee maker). Two dining rooms! Nights were so quiet and the star-gazing was incredible. We were blessed to have great weather the entire week. Linda's house is just so lovely - we hope to come back.

  • Highly recommend this wonderful home, could not have been better. Extremely comfortable and spotless. We will definitely stay here again while visiting our family in Big Timber. Great location from several parks. Full access to the Yellow Stone river. Our hosts were great, very helpful and accessible when needed. Screened in porch was perfect for coffee in the morning and relaxing in the evenings. The house was like a model home with more room than we imagined.

  • This is a clean, spacious house with great views and in a quiet community. Perfect for our large group. Linda is an excellent host!

  • Really impressive hospitality, and the place was wonderful. It was a perfect way to relax with our staff after long days of work. Highly recommend!

    Jon2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • The home is very large and accommodating, quality finishes and touches, all the way down to the high end sheets and towels. Thank you!

    Dave2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • If we could rate greater than five stars, we would! Ivan & Linda treated us kindly and efficiently in every way. They were easy to communicate with. Their attitude of care and their well built, well furnished home exceeded all our expectations. We are eager to return. This was a memorable and very special stay in Big Timber at the Country Elegance!

    Raymond2019-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Linda did a great job! Our family celebrated Christmas and enjoyed a Christmas tree that was set up for us to use when we arrived and decor on the mantel. These little touches made our time together with family incredibly enjoyable. The space was amazing to celebrate, cook, sleep, and have lots of fun with the games in the closet. This is a great space to enjoy the mountains and make your nightly destination after skiing at Bridger, using the river access, or taking a trip to downtown Big Timber, Livingston, or Bozeman. What a great place to visit. We will be back for sure.

The Bunkhouse at Sojourner Ranch is a unique rustic experience of Romancing the west in the simplicity that was once apart of the cowboys life. It is comfortable but simple. With endless miles of rolling hills and grasslands, wildlife are plentiful and the sunrises and sunsets paint the sky with deep rich colors. The sweet melody of the Western Meadowlark and the Sagebrush Sparrow serenade you all through the day and the clear nights reveal billions of stars and the Milky Way.
The bunkhouse has three separate bunk rooms and a kitchen bath combination and can acomodate 12 people. Each of the rustic rooms has a queen size bed as well as bunk beds. The kitchen has a stove, refrigerator and microwave. A long porch allows you to sit and enjoy looking out over the foothills of the Gallatin National Forest and the Beartooth Absaroka Wilderness mountains. For privacy reasons of sharing the kitchen and bath with strangers, we will only welcome one family at a time or a group of people that know one another.
Sojourner Ranch is located in Southwestern Montana near the town of Big Timber (population 1,674).Our views include two of the highest peaks in Montana: Granite Peak, to the SE at 12,808 feet, and Crazy Peak, to the N, rising to an elevation of 11,214 feet. Antelope, white tail deer and mule deer are daily visitors to the ranch as well as an occasional moose, elk , bear and mountain lion. The clear cool nights reveal thousands of stars and planets as the milky way becomes a canopy over the ranch. It is the perfect surrounding for family reunions or retreats for artists or nature lovers.
  • A fun rustic bunkhouse experience! Beautiful views, comfortable beds, clean, super sweet and accommodating host! Note that the bedrooms are not connected to the bathroom/kitchen area. All rooms open onto a quaint porch. Loved the horses and the view! Would definitely visit again in the summer.

Charming New England style cottage that it is. Over the years we have added trees and flower gardens. We use it in the spring time when we are calving in the adjacent calving barn and lots. Otherwise it is a retreat for family and friends. To the south are the Beartooth and Absarokee Mountains. To the west is the Sweet Grass Creek, great for a dip on hot summer days, and just beyond one can see the peaks of the Crazy Mountains.

The Little Blue House is a cozy carriage house built in 1895 and lovingly restored to maintain its character and charm. It is located in the heart of Big Timber, MT within easy walking distance to downtown.
The Little Blue House has a lovely sandstone courtyard, outdoor BBQ and hot tub with outdoor seating for a relaxed gathering, meal or star gazing.
We can recommend some good restaurants and scenic drives or places to hike and fish. Yellowstone National Park is about an hour and a half away and we are happy to suggest itineraries.
  • Very clean, well furnished and very private and quiet. Right in the heart of Big Timber, easy access to everything. Nice quiet neighborhood, too.
