The hilltop house is located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac above the farming and fishing village of Aticama (pop. 1,400) and is 7-10 minutes walk to town and beach. The property is fenced, gated and offers lots of green space for peace, reflection and convenient bird sightings. Neighbors and villagers are friendly and you'll find it's a great place to practice your Spanish and enjoy fresh seafood. Aticama embodies the lovely old Mexico of bygone days with colorful fiestas on the plaza, street parades, and fireworks for national holidays. Enjoy delicious seafood—oysters, shrimp, mahi-mahi—fresh fruit and ice-cold refreshments at the quaint seaside restaurants in town and at Matanchen Beach, one of the longest and most scenic beaches in Nayarit, Mexico also where kayak, paddle board rentals are available. Stroll the Matanchen Beach pier at twilight for a wonderful coastal vista and the Sierra Madre Mountains as backdrop. Yoga classes and a weekly community market are held at the Aticama Cultural Center from mid-November to April; private art, yoga and language classes are available. There is also a fascinating archaeological museum downtown.
  • Trilby's place is an oasis of peace and tranquility, perfectly located on a hill overlooking Matanchen beach with it's glorious sunsets and beautiful sunrises. We felt welcomed and at home from the moment we came. Nicely appointed space with windows and balconies offering fantastic views of the beach and the jungle behind the house made us feel relaxed and at ease. Trilby was a great host, helping with the information and anything else that we needed, whenever we needed it. We are quite demanding travelers, however we do not have any bad things to say about this place. Highly recommended for peace seekers.

  • This home on a cliff overlooking the ocean was an absolutely fantastic place for our last few days in Mexico. My husband and I had never heard of Aticama but chose to go there after finding this gem and just knowing it would be amazing. The location is incredible. Waking up to views of a long stretch of beach from our patio was so rejuvenating. What's really special is that the home feels like luxury with the ocean/garden/mountain views, pool, beautiful guest room and overall home design (love the art work!) -- along with Trilby's gracious hosting -- yet it's in a fishing village with virtually no other tourists, so you are experiencing authentic Mexico. Trilby is so welcoming and friendly. She offered helpful tips and suggestions for the area, prepared lovely breakfasts of different breads, fruit, and coffee, and even gave us a ride to La Tovara one morning. It felt like staying with a friend who knows just how to help while still giving you privacy to simply enjoy the space. Needless to say we didn't want to leave and truly hope to return. THANK YOU Trilby and Happy New Year!

The house is on a hill in a quiet Fishing village overlooking the ocean with a lush Palm tree garden. Short walk to town and 5 km stretch of beach. Aticama's beach is known as Playa Matanchen and is one of the widest and sandiest beaches in Mexico. Aticama is an important producer of rock oysters, shrimp, rock lobster, and fish such as mahi mahi and robalo. It is also a major producer of mangos and bananas. In colonial times, it was a haven for pirate ships and buccaneer on the Pacific coast.
Guests have access to the entire house, the upstairs patio/kitchen, living quarters as well as the downstairs bedroom and bath. Keys will be provided for all spaces.
Aticama is a great escape from the busy tourist places. Come enjoy the small fishing village with a long stretch of beach. Enjoy fresh oysters or ceviche on the beach under the Ramadas. There are lots of day trip that are 1/2 hour to 1 1/2 hours away like La Tovara River cruise, but since it is a smaller town here are a few tips. Pesos are the only way to pay for anything in the town. The main street is paved but all the other streets are cobbled which is charming but sometimes a little harder to walk on. To get to the beach from our casa there is a cobbled street that is down a hill so good walking shoes with no slip soles would be a good idea. Very little English is spoken in the shops and restaurants so an English/Spanish dictionary or translator app is very important. The people are very friendly and will try to help and appreciate any effort you make to communicate in their language. There are a few insects to be aware of so bring insect repellant.

    Aticama, Nayarit, Mexico

The house is located in the tranquile village of La Palma, only a 10 minutes drive to the beautiful beaches of Nayarit. People who like to enjoy a quiet, comfortable and private place, and still catch a glimpse of an original and authentic Mexican pueblo with tropical nature are warmly welcome here!
The three story house has a beautiful location on a little hill looking over La Palma village in the middle of the ocean hillside. It is furnished in cosy colonial style and has two double-bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a spacy living area and even a little quiet working corner. The air condition by the bedrooms keeps the house nice and cool all day long. Mosquito protection on every window, nature and village life around you ensure a long goodnight sleep. From the rooftop terrace all the tropical beauty of the area can be observed: From the green hills with mango plantation to the clear mountain stream that runs through the village up to a glimpse of the pacific ocean. It has an outside pool area that can already be used and an exclusive parking spot on the front yard. As you can see in the pictures, small parts of the house, such as the rooftop terrace, and its surrounding gardens are still in construction process. This does not affect the living quality in the house, but it can have some aesthetic drawbacks of the appearance from outside. This is already considered in the price.
The village is just in 2 Minutes walking distance down the hill and has a little plaza and small stores that offer the most basic daily supplies. For more diverse offers, The towns San Blas (20 minutes drive) and Aticama (10 minutes) have local fruit and vegetable markets, souvenir shops, banks, supermarkets and grocery stores. In the village itself, there is a little mountain stream called „El Arroyo“ that brings cold and clear water from the hills. If wanted, little hiking tours to the water cascades can be arranged for some nearby refreshment. The Cocodrilario is just outside the village and worth a visit for families with children or simply nature adventurers. There are a multitude of beautiful sandy beaches very close by such as Las Islitas, Playa de los Cocos and Matanchén.
  • We had a wonderful stay at the casa del pueblo and even got to know some of the friendly villagers that live closeby. Some of them speak English quite well, some just respond friendly when you greet them a "buenos dias". Armando, Juliens uncle, is very friendly and helpful. He lives just down the hill, handed us the keys and showed us into the spacy and comfortable house. It was very clean, cool and well taken care of. You could see that the garden is still in process, but you can already imagine how it will look like when its finished and the trees are grown. And we had our own bananas! The pool is lovely and you feel drawn in a very private and relaxed atmosphere. All in all it was worth every penny!

  • It’s a little hard to describe this place. We loved it! The house is beautifully built, spacious and comfortable. Having our own pool in the back was a treat! There isn’t a lot going on in the town of La Palma, but that’s what we were looking for. We mostly bought groceries and enjoyed the house - eating our meals in, reading in the comfy chairs/couch, going for walks, cooling off in the pool = it’s a quaint getaway. You will hear quite a bit from the chickens and dogs in the neighborhood though ;-) It’s close to Aticama and San Blas, so more restaurants and activities are close by, should you desire them. Oh, and Armando, Julien’s uncle who lives in town, is a delight! He helped build the place, so likely knows it well, though we didn’t have any issues. He helped us with bus and Taxi questions and was always willing to be of assistance. Definitely recommend it.

  • Me and my family enjoyed very much staying at the lovely house with its beautiful view. We had our privacy, but could always communicate when we had questions. The region is like a little paradise and we got around quite a lot to the nearby beaches, San Blas and Tepic. Will definitly come again next year!

    Annette2017-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, nice town and location close drive to the beach. Will need to feel comfortable on back-roads to get to the house but it is great once you're there.

  • Perfect for everybody who wants to have a relaxed and close-to-nature holiday. Everyday, we did Yoga on the roof-terrace, jumped in the pool to cool down and then had lovely fruit breakfast with local coffee and eggs. It's been just wonderful and the price is great for what you are offered!

    Johanna2017-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • I've really had a great time in La Palma! The house is both spacious and cosy, especially the beds were very comfy, and I had no trouble sleeping due to the A/C and mosquito nets. I really enjoyed having sunset drinks on the rooftop and swimming laps in the pool's counter current system. Fruits are cheap and abundant during the rain season, and people in the village treated me really nicely. The beach is just a stone's throw away and the amazing Crocodilario is also very close! I would definitely stay here again.

Casa Carolina is set on a large, private hillside lot. It has a large, fully equipped kitchen, indoor and outdoor dining areas, rooftop terrace, private pool in beautiful garden. It is a 5 min walk to the quaint village or the 7km stretch of beach.
Casa Carolina is newly built with both authentic Mexican details and modern amenities which makes for a great mix of comfort and culture. It has 3 levels all connected by a spectacular spiral staircase and hand crafted railing.
  • The the house is great, nice scenery, quite and safe neighborhood. It makes you feel like if it were your own house . There’s a road construction in the town of Aticama right now, but the detour is a fun, it makes you go through a cute little bridge, which is just fun

  • We stayed here in early August and loved the house and the area. The house is wonderfully equipped, clean and incredibly comfortable - the pool is also great for a much needed dip. Jason, who welcomed us was also fantastic. For anyone traveling through Nayarit, this is a must-stay house. Ciara and Michael

  • This beautiful house is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast. Very spacious and very clean. House keeper Jason was very flexible and friendly. It was a little hard to find, but thanks to (Hidden by Airbnb) map search we made it. Carolyn also made herself available any time via cell. Having a washer and dryer available is a luxury in this home! I would highly suggest stopping at a grocery store before arriving to the house. Local stores have very limited selection of items. Close to beautiful beaches and about 45 minutes from the main city of Tepic.

  • Travelling as a family of 4 adults and one child we had plenty of space and really enjoyed the private peaceful setting, and above all, the spectacular view! We spent our days enjoying the pool overlooking the ocean and swimming in the sea, which we also had entirely to ourselves most of he time! There is a fantastic local rustic restaurant a 2 minute walk away and several others a half hour walk or short drive away also. We often just took food back to prepare at the house as there was a small stove and utensils etc. Cesar was a fantastic host, very friendly and very accommodating! Highly recommended and we hope to return again.

Oceanfront, cliffside getaway-from-it-all home overlooks Pacific Ocean with views of the Sierra Madre Mountains. A peaceful 1.5 acre retreat for birders, writers, girls getaway or romance and renewal. The seaside village of Aticama offers authentic old world Mexico of bygone days. Tranquil & spacious, the 2,500 sq ft, 4-story home features ocean and mountain views, organic mango orchard and plenty of outdoor living spaces for meditation, relaxation amid the natural beauty of this quiet outpost.
With views to die for—the well appointed house is just right for relaxing indoors or in the outdoor living spaces. Bedrooms are cool and breezy with ceiling fans, or air conditioning if you prefer. The cliffside pool, two outdoor terraces—one on the main floor and other rooftop terrace—offer commanding views of Matanchen Beach, the Pacific coastline, the Sierra Madre Mountains and surrounding countryside. The sound of the surf is soothing and ever present. The house sleeps 6 with a maximum of 8 people in 5 beds. Additional guest fee (above 6 guests) is $25 per person per night with a maximum of 8 people. Guest parking is convenient and secure within the fenced and gated property.
The hilltop location is 100 feet above the ocean with commanding, 360° views of the Pacific Ocean, coastline, Sierra Madre Mountains and surrounding countryside. The sleepy seaside village of Aticama and Matanchen Beach are 7-10 minute walk from the house. Aticama isn't fussy or fancy, but offers a glimpse into Mexico's bygone days with refreshingly low key vibe compared to our busy Nayarit neighbors, Sayulita and San Pancho. A picturesque seaside plaza, church, and string of small restaurants serve fresh seafood, tasty Mexican fare and ice cold drinks. Terrific local color, people watching and a symphony of birds.
  • Stunning location, gorgeous accommodations, perfect hostess! I'm afraid this review is going to be chock-full of clichés and superlatives, but it can't be helped -- Trilby's house was by far the most beautiful I have ever rented. The photos in the listing are impressive, but cannot do the setting or the house itself justice. We were there for a whole week, and every day I discovered some new detail in the design or furnishing of the house that was so thoughtful and well-executed that it stopped me in my tracks. There are views to die for outside every window (including the bathroom!) and the comforts of home abound -- fully stocked, open plan kitchen, luxurious towels and bedding, whole-house water filter (meaning you can drink and brush your teeth from the tap), toilets that flush toilet paper. The lot is large and feels secluded (though it is just a few minutes from town), and there were days we barely left, relishing the otherworldly feeling of our private resort. Aticama is off-the-beaten-track for most international tourists (we have family in the area), but well worth the trip -- Matanchen Beach, just down the road from the house, is wide, sandy and clean and the water is calm and surprisingly warm -- perfect for children. There are more adventurous activities nearby -- wildlife boat tours at La Tovara State Park, waterfall hike in El Cora, baby turtle release at Playa las Tortugas -- and it was always a pleasure to come back to the house, take a refreshing dip in the pool, mix up some margaritas and watch the sunset. Trilby was warm, solicitous, accessible, responsive and very knowledgeable about local goings-on and services. She obviously loves her home and Aticama and it shines through every corner of the house and her interactions with guests. One piece of advice if you are not familiar with the area -- rent an SUV if you can swing it. Many roads are un- or unevenly paved. We did fine in our Toyota Corolla but you will be more relaxed in a car with more clearance.

    Julia2017-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay at Trilby's place in Aticama. The house overlooks the ocean and Magnificent Frigatebirds circle endlessly. The landscaping and house are done with wonderful taste and attention to detail and the garden abounds with birds, including Citreoline Trogons and Lineated Woodpeckers. This is a wonderful spot to stay if you intend to bird the San Blas area. Coming back to the pool and rooftop terrasse was a exquisite luxury after traipsing around the mountains, marshes and mangroves in search of birds. Aticama itself is a small village without many amenities for tourists. You are far from the city, but if you are looking for an authentic Mexican experience with all the comforts of home, and amazing birds, this is the place to be.

Two hours drive north of Puerto Vallarta Airport (PVR). A two bedroom one bath and studio apartment above, set on acre of bay and arroyo frontage in rural Mexico. Fishing and farming are a way of life. There's also a two bedroom unit downstairs if you need to rent the whole house. We ask for a deposit to hold the dates, and a registration form.
A two bedroom one bath downstairs. A separate studio apartment above, on one acre of lush gardens. Available for the summer at a reduced rate. Located 90 miles north of Puerto Vallarta Mexico.
The casa is directly on the Bahia Matanchen. A short walk to Santa Cruz de MiraMar. Casa Simpatico is a family place. Not a party house. We have internet, its been reliable, medium speed. There is no television, one radio station and a CD player. Its among fruit orchards, cool, calm, and quiet. Well, quiet most of the time, except when over joyed children are in the river. Also the place to the north of us rents his place for weddings on occasion, not often. I am proud to say that all of our reviews are good, they are posted on under Casa Simpatico on the World Wide Web. We have been renting since the year 2000 and are without incident. Please be mindful of the coconut trees.
  • Had a lovely stay. Beautiful location, much better than staying in San Blas. We found the surf point in Santa Cruz ( bring your own board).

  • Small, but cozy home. Beautiful grounds. Very peaceful. Juan Carlos was very kind and helpful! We would stay here again.

  • Excellent location on a creek that slowly makes its way to the ocean. Juan Carlos was there as promised and made sure we were all set up to enjoy the home. Great value.

    James2017-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • The location is Wow, a house with a beautiful garden right on the beach and by a stream. We enjoyed a different sunset from the patio everyday while listening to the waves. My children loved running around the garden covered with coconut trees and swim ming in the river. Luckily we bought rock shoes so walking through the rocky beach to go swimming in the sea wasn't a big deal. The sea is particularly warm at this time of the year. However there were a lot of mosquitoes because it is raining season, so bring insect repellents. The house is clean and has everything you need to cook. Juan Carlos is very helpful and friendly. He even brought us some lychees from a friends garden. From the house there is a path by the sea that connects to the village where you can buy fresh fish, grocery and there are a few cheap seafood restaurants. Andy wasn't there but he always stayed connected to make sure everything went well. Thank you Andy for looking after us. We will definitely go back.

    Hang2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Secluded with a beautiful garden and fantastic verandah on edge of rocky beach. Bring reef booties if swimming in front - a few rocks to negotiate before getting into deeper water. Or swim in the river. Peaceful place to catch up with friends and enjoy the surroundings. Stock up with supplies in the village and cook at home. Well stocked with all utensils needed. Fun mix of CDs to go through. Would go again for sure. Deon Bing and Family

  • The host Andy was very responsive and always answered his phone and all my questions. The caretaker Juan Carlos was a big help as well and even gave one of my amigos a ride to catch the bus the last morning. Home is in a great location right on the rock beach. It is very quiet and relaxing with amazing views!!The yard was well maintained and the home was clean despite being a little dated with the smell of mold. But if you have traveled to humid places you will know the odor is relatively common. Only downside is the beach is tough to swim in due to the boulders leading out to sea but there are plenty of sand beaches close by. Overall we had a great time!!

    Sean2017-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Andy's house is a true gem. In fact, I'm tempted not to give away the secret! We had nothing but peace in comfort on our 4 day stay. Andy was easy to communicate with and did his best to make us happy. Juan Carlos who cares for the house in Andy's absence was also a fantastic host. We couldn't have felt more secure or well looked after. The house is easy to get to from Puerto Vallarta (3hr straight drive), Guadalajara (4hr), Sayulita (2hr), Tepic (30mins). There is enough space for 5 or 6 people in the main portion, and 3 or 4 in the upstairs studio. We loved waking up to the waves out front every morning, the fresh fish caught out in the bay, and the happy families that come to enjoy the beach. Its a quick trip into town in either direction with markets and restaurants for supplies. There are also fruit trees and nopal cactus everywhere to pick from. If you want to get beyond the tourist trap and see a beautiful and real piece of Mexico, this is the place.

  • Andy's home is one of my favorite Air BnB's of all time. Mexico is getting hot this time of year, but not in Andy's yard. There is a constant sea breeze blowing and plenty of green grass to sit on and lounge under the shade of giant coconut palms. The beach is literally steps from the door and is very beautiful, though very rocky. If you want a sandier beach, however, you simply walk north about 300 meters and there is a much longer sandy beach around the corner. Added bonus was a spring-fed little creek that runs alongside the house which we used for dipping in after swimming in the ocean. Amazing! The house was well-equipped and Juan Carlos was an excellent host. He even took us on the first day to go see where the spring was bubbling up from and also got us some delicious jackfruit from a friend of his. All in all a great stay and I look forward to going back as soon as I can ! Thanks again Andy :)

Jardin Escondido truly is a hidden paradise! This is a comfortable vacation home with a fantastic location on Playa Los Cocos, two minutes by car to the small town of Aticama and about a fifteen minute drive to the historic town of San Blas. Playa Los Cocos is one of the most tranquil and laid-back beaches in the area, where you will often find you have the beach all to yourself. In the winter months this is a great beach for walking and swimming, and is a great location from which to explore!
This a comfortable home right on one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. This naturally beautiful area is filled with lots of interesting things to see and activities to do if you are so inclined, or you can just kick back and relax your time away from this beautiful property.

This ample, two room apartment is 24 steps above the beach and just off a private street - with four comfy double beds plus kitchen, bath and patio. A short walk will take you to fresh seafood restaurants on the ocean front, small grocery stores and to the pueblo of Santa Cruz de Miramar. We have a rooftop terrace for sunning, yoga, etc. and wifi plus lush tropical gardens. Fresh flowers and often organic fruit from the garden are provided to welcome guests. Bienvenidos "Welcome!"
This started out as a large, single family beach house with a few old trees and decent infrastructure but no garden. I have expanded and renovated it with artistic elements, recycled fragments and eclectic details and created a fun, comfortable, alternative retreat/refuge ( from the urban miasma) surrounded by a lush, tropical garden right on the Pacific Ocean. The sound of the waves and the sunsets will quench your soul!
Miramar is home to the local fishermen and oyster divers mostly. Small family owned stores have just about everything you might need for a simple, healthy vacation.

  • James met us on arrival and ensured that everything was alright with our room. He pointed out some amenities, and places of interest and eats and said that he would be around should we have any questions.

  • Jim was a wonderful, helpful host with lots of good ideas for activities in the area and he arranged for us to visit a local restaurant/sports bar to watch the superbowl. He had great communication before our arrival and was a great host.

  • We really appreciated our host accommodating us on short notice, especially as he had only arrived himself a few days before. We had a nice-sized room with a kitchenette (which we didn't have a chance to use) and a bathroom. Great location at the end of a quiet street and uphill of the beach. We felt safe and secure. It's easy to walk to restaurants. To improve the room, I'd recommend moving the ceiling fan right over the bed in case the day was hot and the ability to open the windows above the kitchen to get the ocean cross breeze.

  • We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone. Everything was as described...a lovely place.

Modern beachfront villa with large, private pool located on Playa Los Cocos, Aticama, – two hours north of Puerto Vallarta, 80 minutes north of Sayulita and 15 minutes south of San Blas, Nayarit. It’s also an easy 3 hour drive from both Guadalajara and Mazatlan.
The house can comfortably sleep two small families or three couples. The house was designed by a talented Tepic architect in the spirit of Mexican architect Luis Barragán. Here you will experience Mexico at the northern part of Mexico’s popular tourist destination Riviera Nayarit. It’s a beautiful place to surf on unspoiled beaches, go bird watching on a jungle tour, and taste some of Mexico’s freshest seafood dishes. You also can practice your Spanish with the friendly people in the nearby Pueblos of Aticama and San Blas. The beach is sandy all winter long, but mid-summer to October/November will be dependent on the tides.
  • The place is beautiful. Everything was exactly where it needed to be to make us feel at home. The instructions were very clear and the pictures depict exactly what you are going to get.

    Oscar2015-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • The house is beautiful and very comfortable. Everything you need is provided. Very clean and very nice towels and linens. The beach is very nice and the private pool is wonderful! The caretaker and his wife keep the yard and house immaculate. The yard is landscaped beautifully with flowering bushes, palm trees and succulent plants. Daniel, the caretaker was wonderful and gave us lots of information about the area. We found lots to do in the area. Nearby, in Playa Los Cocos and Aticama there are good restaurants. A little further in San Blas and Santiago Ixcuitla there were interesting sites to see, both modern and from colonial times. We also enjoyed the Tovara Springs boat ride from Matanchen. Alex, the owner, is very responsive and can be reached easily by phone, text or email. He also gave lots of helpful information on the area. It was a pleasure dealing with him.

    Janet2015-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Alex and his team are great people; professional, attentive, and understanding. Alex responds to questions right away and always finds the solution that will benefit his tenants. The day of our flight we had an issue with one of our passports and had to postpone our trip 2 days. Alex was kind enough to change our reserervation (with no fee) so we didn't loose a single day of the house rental money. The house manager (Daniel) responded promptly to our needs and gave us a great description of the area and places to visit. We stayed in Aticama b/w June 7th and the 14th. We knew there was a chance for storms. Indeed when we arrived we had just missed a storm and the sea tide was high with big waves heating the property's sea wall hard. We saw no problem to this, in fact it just made it more fun for us. We had a great time swimming in the pool with occasional splashes of sea water. Cesar, the pool guy apologized for not being able to keep the pool "clean" and free of sea water. Despite we mentioned it was OK, he showed up almost every morning to clean the pool (which did't bother us, as he showed up when most of us were still asleep).

    Jesus 2015-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • Alex has a great house on the coast. The house is big, clean and with plenty areas to be at. The only problem is that there is no beach. The sea hits the wall near the pool and is impossible or at least too risky to get into the ocean. There is no sand beach to sit, walk, play or anything. The house is fully equipped with everything you need and they were kind enough to provide extra purified water during our stay. The place is awesome if you want to relax and be by yourself since there is not much to do or see around. You have to drive to get anywhere.

    Gabriel2015-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • We spend a great and relaxing time at Alex's house. It has a great view of the ocean and sunset's are amazing. Daniel and Alex will make you feel comfortable and provide you with detailed info to get the most of the surroundings.

    Heerly Osiris2015-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the property for 5 days, 6 persons in total. It was a very good experience. The house is very very confortable, well equipped and everything works well. Located next to the beach, with access to it; just open a door and you will be enjoying the pleasant waves of Playa Los Cocos. Pool is nice, and well kept. Alex is very responsive on the phone, text or email. Daniel, the house manager, and the person who interfaces with you, is helpful and readily available.

  • We really enjoyed the "real Mexico" feel of James's place. The jungle like setting and the short walk over to Santa Cruz were a treat, the people were so friendly. Leo restaurant provided an excellent dinner on the beach and is highly recommended. The room was rustic but adequate.

James is a wonderful host. He helped us a lot. James is in love with Mexico and its history! The area is perfect to explore, there are good restaurants in Miramar and surroundings and the people is amazing. We will be back for sure!

  • El Encanto is a great find. Family friendly, great porch, and the decor is hot. James is a great host. For example he gave me a pot of epazote tea when my stomach was upset, invited all his guests to a new year's eve party at his personal space across the drive. We had a two year old and a five year old with us, and these accommodations were great for them. Miramar is a quiet peaceful fishing town, with a fishing cooperative right out the gate on the beach. El Encanto is tucked away in the most beautiful tropical gardens and quiet except for the sounds of surf and music from the beachfront restaurants on the beach below. Eat lots of delicious (and cheap) seafood in Miramar and San Blas, surf in San Blas, use the juice of the small green limes or the little bags of shampu that they sell in San Blas as bug repellent and to ease any bites, look for a liquado of jack fruit, eat a roast chicken from a roadside stand washed down with a cold Modelo, see the agriculture, aggregation and distribution infrastructure of Nayarit's orchards and fields.

    katie2015-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • James is a super friendly host, we felt very welcomed. The place has a beautiful garden that leads onto the beach, so you wake up and fall asleep with the sound of waves and (Website hidden by Airbnb) is a great place to recharge batteries. thank you!!

The best part for us was the roof deck complete with a bathroom a palapa and a bar. Watching the sunset from this home was epic.

Charming seaside casa sits just above the shores of the Pacific with beautiful ocean views and unspoiled beaches you can walk for miles. Sunset dinners are enjoyable from the wide veranda and tropical garden. Do as much as you want or nothing at all.
BEFORE BOOKING PLEASE READ THE BULLET POINTS BELOW DESCRIPTION Aticama really is a hidden treasure off the beaten path designed for those who are adventurous at heart and yearn for a truly meaningful vacation. Perfect for artists and writers or for those who just want some quiet time to contemplate or enjoy this beautiful garden state. Casa Karina is located just above the town of Aticama, on a bluff overlooking the Pacific. It is a private, quiet oasis set in a garden of palm trees with a green jungle surrounding it. While at Casa Karina you can dine inside or out on the patio tables al fresco while enjoying the view of the ocean and the garden tended to by our lovely housekeeper. In or out you always have the soothing sounds of the water in the background. Matanchen beach is about 10 minutes by car. Unspoiled by tourists but spotted with friendly beach restaurants it has wide sandy beach and shallow water perfect for swimming. Just fifteen minutes away by bus or car is the Historic town of San Blas as well as the famous La Tavora mangrove boat trip which takes you through the jungle filled with flora, fauna and most exciting, crocodiles. The local hotel does sightseeing trips if that's of interest and there is always a willing captain willing to take you out to some of the best fishing anywhere on the coast. Or you could plan your own itinerary of waterfall hikes, trips to a coffee plantation, road trip to the capitol city of Tepic or a visit to the release location of sea turtles. If you are tired of the tourists, timeshare salesmen, souvenir hawkers, and high prices of other destinations come see us and experience Mexico at a cheaper, more leisurely, more enjoyable pace. After a few days at Casa Karina and our little town of Aticama you'll understand why we call it Ati-Coma. It helps melt away the stress, hustle and bustle that is so much of our every day lives at home. Come to a more mellow place to recharge your batteries and enjoy a slower pace of life. The good life! ATICAMA IS BEST SUITED TO SEASONED, ADVENTUROUS TRAVELERS November, 2015: We do our very best to make Casa Karina as comfortable as possible but this a tropical climate which does reek havoc on hard and soft goods which have to be repaired or replaced fairly often and is an ongoing endeavor. We have just repaired the water, power, septic, painted the interior. Bought a new fridge, microwave, coffee pot, blender, hammock, 6 burner stove, pillows and fans for our guest’s comfort. With that said this is a very peaceful, albeit rural part of Mexico and we want to set the right expectations for our potential guests. We have several caretakers in the area while you’re visiting but the bullet points below are things to keep in mind so you can make an educated decision. •Who do I call if I need something? This has always been our biggest challenge in this area. But we now have our local handyman/contractor Jason (on hand for emergency repairs), and our Mexican housekeeper Paty (cleaning, water, gas, garbage), and Donna who often serves as our guests translator (as a favor to Casa Karina). •How does it compare to Cabo or Puerto Vallarta? It doesn’t. This isn’t a resort town, this is really Mexico and your stay here will be very much like living, for a short time, in a community of family who welcome visitors as friends they’ve never met. It’s called the garden state because of the green jungle, wildflowers and butterflies that flourish here and there is some tourism but this is a working fishing and agricultural village. You’ll be sharing that uncrowded beach with a family here and there who’ve taken the day off to have a family picnic or fresh fish lunch. •Wi-Fi. It’s available at the local library, restaurants in San Blas and the restaurant at Casa Manana, down the road. Tip: download movies, shows and music before you arrive to enjoy while you’re here. •Beaches. About 10 minutes or less by car via the beachfront street that runs below the house. Matanchen beach is very wide and shallow making it a great swimming beach. There are palapas (shaded palm shelters) all along the beach and if you’re in front of a restaurant they’ll serve you while you enjoy the surf and sand. My favorite is El Paraiso. The second restaurant as you enter the beach from Aticama. •Groceries. Mexicans shop the fish, fruit and vegetables stands and markets daily. There are no big grocery stores in Aticama. We may be able to find someone to stock the house before you’re arrival if you are interested for a fee. Otherwise my recommendation if you’re coming from Puerto Vallarta is to stop at one of the many mega stores there on your way north, Mexican or American. Purchase one or two Styrofoam ice chests and do a major grocery run. Don’t forget ice. We have excellent coffee here in town picked locally. And at the mini marts you’ll find milk, bread, cheese beer etc… but not a big wine selection, or olive oil, balsamic vinegar and other very non-Mexican items. •Restaurants. Again this is a fishing village. There are taco stands, Lucy’s, the Mexican diner, Casa Manana hotel bar/restaurant, the take out chicken shop and all the fresh fish and shrimp you’d ever want to eat in Aticama. There’s the San Blas Social Club, Red Witch and Garza Canela in San Blas for variety but overall not a lot of actual restaurants. •ATM’s. There are at least 4 in San Blas. •A car is essential. Again this is a rural area. So if you are in great shape and don’t mind walking up and down hills in the heat or to the beach, great. If not then a rental car is really the only way to enjoy everything this area has to offer. •There are geckos. They’re really cool and eat a ton of bugs and you’ll never see them on the floor, only on ceilings. But these little mascots live both in and outside of homes here. Mosquitos and no see ums are only a challenge in the hot, rainy season between June-October and at twilight and dusk and only outside. Casa Karina does have screens and bug spray always helps. •We do not have an egg slicer. Or other fancy kitchen gadgets except those listed above. We try to have wine glasses on hand at all times but they break on the tile floors. We have plenty of glasses, dishes, etc… This weather is tough on knives and pots and pans but the kitchen does have them even if they’re not the fanciest. •Drinking water. There should be at least 2-3, 5-gallon jugs when you arrive and if you need more just ask our caretaker. We cook only with purified bottled water and use a drop of iodine, designed for water purification, when cleaning fruits and vegetables, which we place in a bowl of tap water. •Gas and electric. There are two gas tanks for the house so there should be one full one for your use and a spare. The stove and water heater are gas. The water heater is temperamental but if it does go out you can reach out to my caretaker to get it lit. •Locals. There is a nice sized, active community of Americans and Canadians who run the museum, spay and neuter clinic, cultural center and library, where there’s a Sunday market from November through April. The locals are used to visitors and are very friendly and helpful even if they don’t speak English and you don’t speak Spanish. A smile and an attempt to communicate is always appreciated. •Safety. This is a small tight knit community where violent crime is extremely rare and you see multitudes of children happily playing outside. But petty theft has always been a nuisance in Mexico, which is why people have privacy gates and security windows. Common sense stuff like not leaving bags or purses in plain sight in your car or leaving the house doors open when you’re gone is really the only things to avoid. Tip: We do have a locking closet if you do bring valuable items like electronics that you’d like to store away. •What if I want to barbecue? Again, we replace things ALL the time. Sometimes we may have a barbecue, sometimes, they’ll rust and fall apart in the off-season. Same thing for anything made of cloth or plastic or glass. We are forever buying new hammocks and beach chairs, pillows, fans etc. Right now there’s a barbecue , beach chairs and a lovely hammock, a half a dozen margherita glasses but only 3 wine glasses. Cest la vie. •What do you provide? Sheets, regular and beach towels, clean drinking water, pots/pans, dishes, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels. And of course fans, indoor/outdoor furniture. Everything else is up in the air depending on when you come, besides what’s mentioned above for the 2015, season. Salt and sugar? The humidity means that they don’t last long? Cooking oil/coffee? I’m leaving some now but typically only if the previous guest picked some up. Anything that is in the kitchen is available for your use. I ask the housekeeper only to clear out perishable items and to leave non perishables for the next guest. •Monteczuemas revenge. You can pick it up in even the fanciest of resort towns. Tip: Buy the highest count of pure, (not a probiotic combination), acidophilus at home a week before your trip and take 1 twice a day, every day including while you’re here. Gives you an iron stomach that will allow you to enjoy the wonderful seafood, fresh fruits and vegetables without the stress. Trust me, it works! Keywords: Vacation Home
