“Kafe Leopold (+ Konditorei) is the exact antidote to those too-cute-for-words pastry shops. Sure, there may be 26 different desserts to tempt your sweet tooth here, but there’s nothing twee about this sleek space tucked in an alley behind posh M Street. Descend the stairs and discover a lovely courtyard garden—complete with a trickling fountain—before stepping into a relaxed arena with eye-catching photos and a decidedly modern ambience. Savory choices include rostbraten vom Angusrind and bratwurst, but even with their delicious homemade taste, it's the final course that is first priority. Peruse the long list of Kaffeespezialitäten, and then nibble on a slice of esterhazy (five-layer hazelnut cake), a delicious éclair or any other can't-go-wrong treat. This hidden away restaurant serves European-style salads, savory tarts, and entrees like schnitzel and grilled salmon. The patio just off M Street is also a draw during nice weather. Go there for: A casual brunch or coffee meeting.”

“(5 minutes away) Best Buns (Motto: "Get your buns in here.") will strike your fancy if you love French style baking: chewy crusts with airy, layered innards. The official bakery for all of the Great American Restaurants group, they bake everything in house, 7 days a week, open at 6am weekdays/7am weekends for coffee (Starbucks), made to order breakfast sandwiches (on their fresh baked croissants or icebox bread - yes, I'm about to drool), breads, pastries, cookies, AND Angus beef burgers (noon - 5pm weekdays). You can leisurely consume your breakfast in the attached Carlyle Cafe (restaurant). As with all Great American Restaurants operations, their staff are immaculately trained professionals. A real joy to visit and taste!”
