Vacation Rentals in Ardglass

Just booked in Ardglass

The cottage is right on the shore. It is self contained with a kitchen area and small bathroom. The twin beds, on a mezzanine floor, can be hooked up to make a super king-size bed. The sofa bed is suitable for one adult or two children. Guests will have access to the beach and a garden area. Parking is on site. Although there is no washing machine, I can wash clothes for guests in my house which is next door. I live next door and will interact with guests as much or as little as they wish. I am usually at home, but if I am travelling I will arrange for a neighbour to keep contact with my guests. Coney Island is between Ardglass and Killough. There are shops and restaurants in both. It is under an hour from Belfast and within sight of the Mourne Mountains and Newcastle. Ardglass has a golf course and there are lots of opportunities locally for walking, fishing and watersports. Public transport is limited, but possible. There is a bus from Dublin airport with a connection to Downpatrick. There is a bus from both Belfast airports with connections to Downpatrick, about six miles from Coney Island. If I am home I will pick up guests from Downpatrick. Taxi fare is around £10. I provide basic food for your first day...tea, coffee, milk, sugar, bread, butter, breakfast cereal, jam, salt, pepper, oil, vinegar. Basic toiletries are provided. The upper floor is accessible to able bodied adults and children, but would present problems to anyone with mobility problems. (See Pic)

  • Sometimes five stars are not enough! What a lovely surprise to find this magical little place right next to the beach The house has everything we needed was warm and cosy yet light and bright too with the most wonderful view of the beach and literally a few steps away. Alice is a warm and generous host who has thought of everything it seems and even helped us out with the things we forgot !! She was so generous throughout our stay and all round the best host you could wish for I look forward to returning and thankful for the wedding trip that led us to this wonderful place What a great experience Thanks Alice!

  • The cutest little cottage we've ever stayed in! The arty touches were great -look at those shutters! We had fab weather for beach walking with a local collie for company. Alice had thought of everything - fresh eggs from her hens and provisions in the fridge and a friendly welcome when we arrived. I would highly recommend this little bijou place by the sea. We want to come back!

  • We stayed the second time at Laura's place and again were really happy. The house is well equipped. We enjoyed our time and Laura and her parents made us feel like being home. Thank you again for having us!

  • Thanks to Laura for a really chilled break in her very comfortable well equipped house. Very quiet and relaxing. Would love to stay again next time we're in the area.

  • The interior of the house was beautiful, well equipped, spacious, comfortable, great value and suited our needs perfect. Laura was an excellent host and I would have no problem recommending the place.

    Peter2017-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • It's a nice house, located in the countryside with good landscape

    Zubier2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing value - Laura's place has so much space and is well equipped. It was a peaceful haven after five days of driving around the coast and would be ideal for a longer stay. We were just stopping off for the night before moving on again so didn't get to explore the area, but the property itself is well located and the check in process gave us a lot of freedom and flexibility over arrival and departure.

  • Great stay at Fitzy's Bunker last week! Everything was exactly as indicated and we were pleasantly surprised with the amount of food provided. Fresh bread, milk, juice, yogurt, etc. Spacious, modern and clean. This was the perfect location for us as my father and I were in town to play golf at Ardglass. Ciaran and Donna were wonderful and very accommodating.

  • Lovely two bed apartment on Coney Island. There isn't a private garden but we had exclusive use of the owners front garden which looks over the bay with the Mournes in the background. The apartment is very comfortable with a huge TV and Sky. DVDS provided as well. Breakfast in the fridge! Was great to share this beautiful place. The owners are friendly and unobtrusive. Thank you xx

  • Ciaran was very welcoming & friendly & even left some freshly baked wheaten bread for us which is a lovely touch. The house is easy to find & in a beautiful spot. The bunker is beautifully furnished and of hotel standard.

    Fiona2016-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • This is a stylish and comfortable apartment in a stunning location. Donna and Ciaran made us feel at home, and did a great job of telling us about the surrounding area and how to enjoy it. This would be a perfect place for a small family as there is plenty of walking and exploring to do right out the door. A small family of golfers would enjoy it even more!

    Vince2016-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • Donna and Ciaran were very friendly and made us feel really welcome - nothing was too much trouble. They gave us free reign in their kitchen and even cooked for us! Fitzys Bunker is in a beautiful position right on the sea with an attractive hinterland. We all, particularly my 3 year old grandson enjoyed meeting Rocky, their brilliant dog.

    Esther2015-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Bunker was fantastic and Ciaran was very helpful getting us checked in on a last minute booking. The location is a beautiful spot right on the bay, and the finishes in the bunker are equal to any 4 or 5 star hotel in the area. We wish we had more than the 1 night to stay!

Coney Cottage rightly boasts the most spectacular sunsets in Ireland and likely further afield. The Cottage is on the shore of Killough bay, a bird watchers paradise with a myriad of birds in residence far too numerous to list. The Cottage has been recently completely renovated. You will have full use of the kitchen and living room areas as well as the garden and summer house/office. An interesting fact is that the back shore at Coney (where the Cottage is) is an Oscar winning location!
The house has recently been completely renovated. You will have your own entrance at the front of the house and keys can be left for you to self check-in/out. I am happy to consider renting the entire house (2 bedrooms) for a minimum of 5 days. Please message me for details.
You are a short walk and even shorter drive to the historic and renowned Ardglass Golf Club with Down Royal and many other local courses within easy reach. The drive to Newcastle along the coast road via Killough and Tyrella beach is stunning at any time of the year. There is the sensational Aldo's Restaurant in Ardglass (again a short walk) and close by the Old Commercial bar is also well worth visiting
  • We stayed at Donaghy's beautiful cottage on Saturday 12th Aug, it is even better than the pictures, the views from the cottage are fabulous, Donagh had recommended we have dinner at Aldo's Italian in Ardglass which is about a 15 minute walk from the cottage the views on the way to Aldo's are fantastic and the food was to die for incredible food a real gem, staying at Donagh's cottage is like staying at a friends house you feel so relaxed as soon as you arrive he is a lovely guy and his two dogs Lulu& Locke are adorable. I would highly recommend staying at Donagh's place and we hope to return. Mel & Anne-Marie ️️️️️

  • Donagh was a great host. We arrived late due to our travels, but that wasn't an issue at all. He welcomed us into his home, let us know that we can make use of everything and that we could make ourselves comfortable. We still had to have dinner so we decided to walk to Ardglass to get something to eat. We were walking when suddenly Donagh showed up in his car, told us that the restaurant was closed. So he did a great thing, he took us to the nearest Spar so we could buy something to eat there. It was very kind and we surely appreciated it. He also gave us some tips on our next destinations and we had a few lovely chats. The house was neat and cozy and we (my partner and I) both loved it. I would recommend Donagh's home to anyone. He is a great host! And the dogs are lovely too!

  • Coney Cottage is ideally situated for a relaxing time. You walk out the front door to the shore and can sit and watch the stunning sun sets next to the Mountains of Mourne. The cottage is well equipped, spacious and very relaxing. I will be staying again.

  • Donagh was a fantastic host. He promptly arranged a meeting time to check in and was friendly and helpful. He recommended a lovely walk in the area and made us feel at home in his beautiful cottage. Would recommend staying here for a night. The room was spotless and the area is very peaceful.

Located in the village of Ardglass, Ringfad is a luxurious B&B located on a private road, with onsite parking, overlooking Ardglass Golf Club & Harbour, with panoramic sea views. There are restaurants & pubs within 100 metres & beaches close by. It's a great place to explore the Mournes, St.Patricks Country & Strangford.
First floor room with double bed & double sofa bed, & separate bathroom. Would suit family 2 adults & up to 2 children. Fabulous views of the Irish Sea, Phennick Point & the Isle of Man on a clear day, through the main window, & the castles & harbour, through the porthole. Seals can often be seen sunbathing on the rocks & even dolphins on occasions, with the help of our telescope.
Ardglass is ideally situated to explore St.Patrick's country(within 7 miles) the Mourne Mountains (17 miles), Strangford Lough (10 miles) & the Game of Thrones locations . Ardglass was recently named one of the top places to live in the UK, by the Sunday Times.
  • This is a little gem of a place, the views, the room, the breakfast and the hosts are superb. I have stayed in quite a few five star hotels but this little place tops any them. I would highly recommend this place to anyone especially it's location with panoramic views across the sea. Amazing. Everything was perfect and we will definitely return.

    Donna2017-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • The photos don't do this B&B justice - beautiful entrance hall, a wonderful room with the best sea view I've ever woken up to. Siobhan and John were lovely people and accommodating hosts - the cooked breakfast and homemade bread were great. The place is on a lovely part of the coast an easy drive from Belfast and well located for Winterfell if you're on a GOT tour!

    Helen2016-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • We love the view and fact you can walk to village the golf club the marina hotel and restaurants

    Michael2017-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • This B&B is just fabulous. Superb location overlooking the bay and the harbour. The rooms are spotless and cosy. We only tasted the full Irish and pancakes for breakfast, both were gorgeous. Shiobhan is there to help with any request or questions. Do check out the harbour early (7-8AM) in the morning to see the sea lions wake up and hear them sing.

    Mathilde2017-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great place! Clean, quiet, good food, amazing view. Sioban and John made sure that we are comfortable. Great value for money.

Alles was man brauchte war vorhanden.

Mini apartment Out of the door and unto the shore! Coney Island, of Van Morrison fame, is a quiet lane along the beach front. Halfway between Dublin and the north Antrim coast it is a great place to stay enjoying a seaview and private patios. The south facing Front Shore skirts Coney Island Beach. The lane turns a corner unto The Back Shore, which faces west across Killough Bay. Sunset views towards the village on the opposite shore with the Mourne Mountains behind can be spectacular.
The Beach Hut Hideaway is a self contained guest suite, detached from the main house. To the front, overlooking the shore, there is a compact kitchen/dining/living room. This area has a picture window to the sea and a half door incorporating a tilt and turn window. There is a private outdoor sitting area outside. A door from this front room leads to a bright, airy double bedroom with direct access to a second, side, patio area. There is a clean, modern en-suite with shower. The Hideaway has been recently converted and all the appliances and services are new. It is served by a gas boiler which provides instant hot water. Radiators have thermostatic valves and there is a heated towel rail in the en-suite. The premises have been insulated to a high standard and The Hideaway is comfortable whatever the weather. Children are welcome, but parents need to be aware that the space has not been childproofed. Parents are responsible for their children's safety and are advised to move any perceived hazards, such as cleaning materials. The beach is great for kids. I have additional floor mattresses if wanted for children. Pets by prior agreement only. Guests are welcome to use any part of the main house garden, but have private use of a south facing patio area to the front and a side patio outside the bedroom window/door. The beach is just the other side of the lane.
Coney is an ideal touring centre for many attractions. Game of Thrones followers will want to visit Castleward and Audley's Castle, about ten miles away. The village of Ardglass, just a mile away, has an award winning golf course, which you can see from my front garden. It is a pretty fishing village with harbours and a marina. St Patrick's grave is in the grounds of the lovely Down Cathedral in Downpatrick. (7 miles away) Downpatrick also offers the St Patrick's Centre and a great local museum. The pretty loughside village of Strangford is 10 miles away. From there you can take a ferry to Portaferry where there is a sea life centre, an outing much loved by my grandchildren. The Mournes to the south, about 25 miles away, are a popular destination for hikers and climbers. However one of Coney's secret gems is just further around the lane. At sunset you have a view across the water of Killough Bay, with the twinkling lights of the village and the setting sun behind the silhouette of the Mourne Mountains, making as beautiful an evening as you will find anywhere.
  • The beach house is very comfortable and has everything you need and in a beautiful setting. The host is very welcoming and gave great advice about the area.

Margaret's Cottage is newly refurbished and sits directly opposite the gates to Ardglass Golf Club. In our bed and breakfast we have two double rooms and one twin, each with a beautiful ensuite or private bathroom. Breakfast is served in your drawing room upstairs, overlooking the sea.
Margaret's Cottage is a bit special. We are an upside-down cottage, with our guest bedrooms on the ground floor and a stunning guest drawing room upstairs - you see, we believe that the views get better the higher up you are! Each of our rooms are finished to the highest standard, with a jar of home-baked goodies on your bedside table, a hospitality tray with all manner of teas and coffees, fluffy Egyptian cotton towels and soft Egyptian cotton sheets to sink into when you retire for the evening.
  • There is a great welcome at the door. Beautifully clean and very nicely thought out . Ciara provides everything you could hope for.... leaving you to relax. Ardglass is a lovely working harbour with amazing views from Margarets' cottage.

    Janice2017-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • The whole weekend experience was enchanting Ciara is enchanting (so is her daughter, Kelsey, and her kitty--Michael O'Shea); Aardglass is enchanting and the views of the golf course, the sea and the harbor are enchanting; the rooms and reception room are enchanting! Ciara is a natural ---intelligent, charming and thoughtful with great taste. Also a good cook. Breakfast was superb! Oh yes, the rooms were impeccably clean! Next door is Aldo's which is the best restaurant around (we ate there both nights-- food and service were----well, enchanting! And a delightful pub is 50 yards away. Four friends flew in from 4 directions and took all three rooms and baths It was great having the place to ourselves. The weather was good and we did a lot of touring (with Ciaras advice, naturally) The visit and weekend were memorable, and so much was owing to Ciara's thoughtfulness By the way Aardglass, a fishing village, was recognized by THE TIMES (London) as being the best place in Ireland to live. I am loathe to recommend Margaret's Cottage too highly for fear that it will not be available the next time I can visit . But it was truly wonderful !! My friends shared my sentiments!

    James2016-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • Ciara was a lovely host! She promptly answered all of questions before our stay and welcomed us warmly with afternoon tea upon our arrival. The breakfast was outstanding - an extensive breakfast menu with multiple choices, cooked to order and many homemade items! Ciara is a true gourmet cook. In summary, Ciara's pleasant, outgoing personality was a great start to our 2 week Ireland vacation! We highly recommend Margaret's Cottage!

    Jim2016-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Margaret’s Cottage was a perfect seaside retreat for my family of 4 as we toured Northern Ireland! Castle ruins and the Irish Sea … the setting alone is inspiring! Upon entering, we were greeted by the lovely scent of Gingerlily and the warmest of welcomes from our host, Ciara. My son and daughter were delighted to discover baked treats at their bedside! The rooms were cozy and comfy, and we appreciated the careful thought put into each charming detail, from the art pieces on the walls to the vintage radios and binoculars at the window. Although my husband and I had a private bathroom, I enjoyed using the en-suite in the twin room. Such a lovely space with a large soaking tub! I particularly loved the Eden bath products and my snuggly soft bathrobe. Breakfast was amazing; and between the 4 of us, we tried everything on the menu! My favorite was the smoked salmon in scrambled eggs with toasted bagel. All in all, we felt truly pampered by Ciara’s warm hospitality, delicious breakfast assortment, and delectable treats. The chocolate-caramel shortbread: Divine! Big THANK YOU HUGS, Ciara, for a wonderful and memorable stay!

  • This B&B is the perfect place for a stay. Host is very welcoming, and she figured every way to make your stay the best. She took care of a lot of details that you won't find elsewhere, and that greatly improves the quality of your stay.

  • Ciara is a fantastic host and her home is beautiful. She really goes the extra mile, with gorgeous breakfasts, home made scones on arrival and cups of tea at bedtime. She even went to get my Dad his favourite newspaper. The house is so calming and comfortable and is perfect for a group. We loved our stay.

  • My aunt and uncle were in need of a short vacation so they picked Margaret's Cottage to be their home for 3 days. When they came back from the trip, they told me they were really pleased with how Ciara treated them. She is an amazing woman and also an amazing host. The place is very neat and the view from their room was absolutely wonderful! I recommend her cottage as it is a peaceful home and unquestionably, Ciara will do her best in making you feel at home.

Charming peaceful getaway. This cosy shore front cottage beautifully blends old with new: the newly renovated cottage is bursting with its original character; the new extension incorporates a contemporary cedar exterior with delightful skylit rooms.
The cottage is right on the shore of Coney Island, made famous by Van Morrison’s hit song, and more recently used as the setting of the oscar winning short film “The Shore”. The cottage is NI tourist board certified. It consists of an open plan kitchen/dining/living area all with sea views. Wood burning stove, TV/DVD player & free Wi-Fi. Dining table seats 6. Separate seating area with TV board games, books, jigsaws. Coney Island is situated between Ardglass and Killough within sight of the stunning Mourne Mountains and sea-side town of Newcastle. There are shops and restaurants in both villages. Travel to Belfast in under one hour. Ardglass fishing village and marina are located approximately one mile away and Ardglass home to a world class golf course. Located on the Lecale Way for walkers and cyclists, guests can enjoy exploring the natural beauty of the area.
  • Red Roofs is a lovely seaside cottage. It is beautifully decorated with lots of lovely places to sit and relax, both inside and outside. The beds are very comfortable and the cottage really well equipped. The beach is just on your doorstep. There are many great places to visit close by but if you are like us you will not want to leave the cottage!

  • Everything about this property is perfection! The location, the facilities, the neighbours, the views! I could not recommend it highly enough! It is spotlessly clean and furnished to an extremely high (URL HIDDEN) comes equipped with everything one could possibly need and the views are phenomenal.a very special place!

  • A really beautiful place to stay. A great place for watching seabirds and waders. The house is very comfortable and well equipped. We definitely plan to return

  • Everything was exactly as expected and more. A beautifully, thoughtfully appointed cottage with generous levels of facilities and equipment. A peaceful location. Perfect for rest and recuperation. Lots of visiting options if you want to venture further afield. Only thing I hadn't packed and expected to find was a hairdryer. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or revisit. Would be even better if it could sleep 6.

    Heather2016-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Red Roofs was an amazing place to stay. The interior was very spacious, spotless, so comfy and had everything we needed and more. When we arrived we went from room to room exclaiming at each new discovery. The outside space was perfect for relaxing over a meal or few drinks, listening to the waves just across the road. We had a fabulous few days and straight away decided to visit again next year - can't wait!

    Stephanie2017-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Red roofs cottage is such a wonderful place to stay. It's extremely well appointed, equipped with everything you could possibly need and is in a wonderful location. The beach it looks out to is both secluded and quiet, but not too remote. The cottage itself is full of character and charm, whilst also being modern and comfortable. The wood burner, outside seating options and the comfy beds are special highlights but the entire place is a real joy to spend time in. We travelled to lots of local places of interest all over the coastline and down into the mountains and beyond, but always looked forward to returning to our little hideaway. We were lucky to enjoy some really glorious sunny days, managing to see lots of the Down countryside (and even squeezing in champagne on the beach!) but even during the one heavy downpour we had, snuggling up by the fire and watching the rain roll in over the sea was wonderful! There really was nothing we wanted for during our stay and we were so sad to leave. A perfect anniversary get away, and a lovely last jolly before our first baby arrives. We're already planning a return trip to go rock pooling and seal watching with Little One!

There is a four-ring electric hob, a microwave/grill, toaster, kettle and a full range of cookware. There is a fridge with a small freezer compartment, and a washing machine. All cutlery and crockery is supplied. Towels and bedding are supplied. If you intend to swim, please bring your own towels.Hoover and cleaning equipment is provided + an iron and ironing board. Coney Island offers a safe sandy beach for swimming. There are rocky inlets around 'the Island' [it's really a promontory!] where you can swim at high tide, or explore the rockpools at low tide. You can walk across the mudflats of Killough Bay at low tide, and be entranced by the diversity of the birdlife, or wait for high tide to get in or on the water. There is a slipway in Killough, and one in Ardglass. Both Coney Island, and Killough Bay are good for windsurfing and dinghy sailing. Ardglass Golf Course borders the eastern side of Coney Island Bay. There are other courses within easy driving distance. There are shops, pubs, two restaurants, a cafe, a marina, and remains of Norman castles in Ardglass. The bus stop is outside the cottage. We are on Patrick's Way, Lecale Way, the Ulster Way, with beautiful walks along the coast, north towards Strangford Lough, and south towards the Mourne Mountains. Or you could just stay at Heron Farm and enjoy a lesson in pottery, sculpture or mosaic in Berni's Coney Island Design studio! Bring wellies and slippers!
  • Berni was the most welcoming of hosts with a fire lit and the cottage warm and snug on our arrival. There were 4 of us in the cottage and there was plenty of room for us all and every convenience provided, including a welcome pack of essentials - a much appreciated gesture. We were there for 3 nights but spent most of our time attending the Irish Open at Newcastle (which is close by). We therefore did not get too much time to explore the local area but we would love to come back as the scenery and landscape is spectacular and the welcome both warm and genuine. The cottage is an ideal base from which to explore all that this part of Co. Down has to offer. Thanks Berni. We look forward to seeing you again!

    Roy2015-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful cottage. Easy access to Coney Island and beach just across the road. Only a couple of minutes into Ardglass. Bernie is a fabulous host and Eska the dog very friendly and good with children. We wouldn't hesitate to book again

    Brian2017-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • A friendly welcome to a comfortable and clean cottage with starter items in the well-equipped kitchen. A great base for our walks along the Lecale Way including the Ballyhornan Coastal Path.

  • We had a lovely break at One Tree Cottage. It is very cosy and well equipped. Berni and Rob made us feel very welcome. Our two teenage boys loved playing with Eska the husky and feeding Buddy the horse. The area is beautiful and the beach at Coney Island is just across the road. Lovely evening strolls and some good rock pools to explore. We are already planning our next visit.

    Janet2017-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great week visiting family. While the weather was very cold the traditional Irish cottage was very comfy and snug. Berni and Rob are very welcoming and manage the balance between being available and giving you privacy extremely well. This was our second visit this year and we plan to return next year. We had excellent sleeps thanks to the sea air and very comfy beds. We went to two local restaurants. Aldos was great for a family celebration dinner and Doyles does a great breakfast and moves from a cafe during the day to a really good fish restaurant in the evening.

    Barbara2015-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn't have had a better host. Very friendly and helped with anything we needed.

    Christopher2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Made very welcome and cottage was ideal for our purposes. The bedroom side of the cottage backs onto a road so there is some traffic noise but there is no direct access from the cottage to the road so there is no safety issue as regards children. I played golf at Mahee Island and at Ardglass, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. Ardglass was particularly good and is a 15 minute walk from the cottage - ideal if you want to enjoy a post round drink in the clubhouse which is very welcoming and serves great Guinness and very good food.

    Laurie2016-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at One Tree Cottage. Berni and Rob are warm and welcoming, offering advice about the area and suggestions as to where to go. The cottage was everything we expected. If anything, it was more spacious than the pictures indicate. Seeing cows from the kitchen window was a treat. Ardglass is a small village--quiet and just remote enough. We easily toured the immediate area and even the north coast. And Belfast is just an hour away.

Killough is a quiet, picturesque village which lies on the Irish Sea shore, near Ardglass, 5 miles from Downpatrick. Cara- Na-Mara is a beautiful, recently renovated 2 bedroom cottage overlooking the sea. Suitable for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families. It's close to all area golf courses including Ardglass and Royal County Down. It is on Lecale Way for walkers and cyclists. There's easy access to the Mourne Mountains, beautiful coastal drives and Strangford Lough.
The cottage is recently converted, to reveal a beautiful original stone wall. We have a dual heating system which consists of a multi burner stove and oil fired heating. We have underground heating in the living room. All fuel e.g. Logs coal and oil is included in the price. We will leave the fire set to light on your arrival. We leave milk, butter, bread, tea , coffee, bacon, eggs and wheaten bread for all guests. The cottage has a lovely garden which is very child friendly and which gets the evening sun ( perfect for bar-b-ques in the summer). There is parking directly outside the house.

  • What a special place! It's newly renovated and beautifully designed. Great back yard/patio and it has just about everything one could need. There were yummee snacks & even plenty of food for breakfast. The beds are super comfy but bedrooms very small. The front bedroom was right on the main road.

  • Very definitely one of our best Airbnb experiences. The cottage is beautiful (even better than the photos) comfortable, stylish and very well equipped. There is a very pretty garden to the rear with plenty of tables and chairs to sit out and enjoy a morning coffee or a glass of wine at the end of the day. The view to the front is lovely, looking out over the beach which is highly recommended for evening stroll to catch the sunset. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding area and local shops and restaurants nearby. Thank you Deirdre for a lovely stay, we will definitely return.

  • Best b&b ever. Anne was an amazing host, so helpful and friendly. The rooms were absolutely clean and the breakfast extraordinary. After a full day we've spent in Belfast at the Titanic Museum we only wanted a nice clean room and that was exactly what we've got. My husband and myself were travelling with our daughter and 2 teenage grandchildren as well as with our three dogs. All of us felt very welcome even our pets. The premises is opposite the harbour which gave us the possibility for a lovely walk on the next morning. When we came back to our car, Anne had found my granddaughters earrings has put them in a bag and taped them on the car window to make sure that she'll see them. We really can recommend this house and I will go again if I'm in the area.

  • Lovely BnB and a great host.

  • Anne made us and the dog feel welcome straight away. Like stepping into a friends house. The room itself and the view were great "watching the seals" as was the breakfast. Definitely recommend as a place to stay. On a side note, aldos restaurant 2 mins walk away is also well worth it.

    Mark2017-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This BnB is a great place to stay. I stayed in two different rooms, the first was fine the second was fab! If you can ask for the first floor room with the bay window. It looks like it has been recently done up and its lovely. Beautiful view, comfy bed, tv, good en suite, little table and chairs to relax and read a book. Lovely. Anne is a great host, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very good, lots of buffet cereals, fruit and yogurt etc. Then a choice of cooked breakfast. The french toast was grand. They very kindly gave me a second helping of maple syrup. Yay! :) The bagel with smoked salmon was yummy. The area is nice. It was very quite when I was there. It seems the main pull factor to the town is the golf course, which is in a beautiful setting and supposedly its club house is the oldest in the world (circa 1405, or so i was told) which is cool. But I didn't play golf so I can't vouch for the course. There is a restaurant called Aldos close by for dinner. The only issue was we had real trouble trying to get taxis from the BnB so I'd recommend bringing a car, if you can. Overall I'd certainly stay here again. Lovely experience! :) Delighted to wake up to a beautiful view of the water.

  • 9 of us stayed at Anne's place just for 1 night. The rooms were lovely, lots of nice extras such as the hairdryer and cotton wool balls. Breakfast was superb with no request being too much trouble including for our vegetarians and coeliac. Location is right on the harbour and a good restaurant and bar within walking distance. I highly recommend it and we would stay here again in a heartbeat.

  • The listing description was spot on. It is a lovely little row house in a very quiet neighborhood. It was clean and nicely appointed and decorated. The crown jewel of the whole experience, though, was the view from the master bedroom and bathroom! It is absolutely breathtaking. We chose this particular location because it was close enough for us to take day trips to Belfast and the Antrim Coast, as well as explore the lovely adjoining towns.

    Deborah2016-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had an excellent time while staying at Leonard's house. It is very well maintained, and has excellent water views which we enjoyed very much. Leonard went out of his way to ensure my wife had what she needed for her gluten-free diet. There is an excellent restaurant directly across the street (castillos) and two pubs in town as well. Overall, this was an excellent stay and we can't wait to return someday.

The house itself is beautiful with a great amount of living space and views over the lough. You can sit and watch the ferries come and go from the window seats in the living room. One bedroom has its own bath, while the second bath is upstairs near the kitchen. We spent our time together in the kitchen/dining room, and got to eat lunch at the table outside. Sloop is the attached property located at St John’s Point Lighthouse in gorgeous County Down. Right on the beach front you’ll love Sloop because of the ambiance and the black and yellow lighthouse. Its strikingly tall tower is marked with vibrant bands of yellow and black. (The colours which distinguish it from other lighthouses are known as its daymark). Sloop is good for couples and adventurers. Strictly no children or pets are permitted as there is a resident dog onsite.
You can now live the life of a lightkeeper in this remote and beautiful spot. Enjoy very comfortable and characterful self-catering accommodation in either of the two lightkeepers’ cottages, Ketch or Sloop, restored by Irish Lights and now cared for by Irish Landmark Trust.
St John’s Point is the perfect place for a quick visit or time out to refresh and revive. It’s also a great base for walking, discovering the likes of Strangford Lough, an area of outstanding natural beauty, the Titanic Museum in Belfast or the early Christian church in nearby Killough.

  • Had a brilliant time, house was gorgeous and host was a great help and had everything labelled. Only bad thing was that the bathroom light didn't work and the toilet was hard to flush but I would definitely return

  • Our first time using airbnb, it wont be our last! We had an amazing time, the weather was fantastic and the kids didn't want to leave (age 10, 7 and 2). Susan was easy to communicate with and was prompt in replying to any questions. The bungalow was set a few metres away from the sea in a small quiet village, but within close proximity to towns, eg Ardglass, Strangford, and Downpatrick. Great base for touring about.

  • Amazing view! this place is cozy and clean. I loved the neighborhood, very family friendly. everything was arranged very well when we reached there. The only but major issue was toilet. It wasn't easy to flush. Make sure to ask Susan about it before you book your trip. Susan is a great host and I would recommend this place to others.

Idyllic cottage surrounded by an intimate flower filled garden that featured on the BBC. Stunning views of the mountains and the sea. Geese, ducks, peacocks, hens and guinea fowl wander freely among organic vegetables.
  • A wonderful house of character, nestled in the hills of Co Down. Lenore and Dickie's hospitality was just wonderful. It really felt like B&Bs used to, with genuine hosts interested in you and pulling out all the stops to make sure you felt at home. The house is in a quiet country location, but only a few minutes away from Tyrella beach, Ardglass and other superb spots. Breakfast was marvellous, with so much sourced from the garden.

    Paul2016-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Just delightful - Couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. Breakfast was a feast. Accommodation perfect. We will be coming back to stay if we're ever in the vicinity again.

    Helene2016-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • Lenore and Dickie were charming hosts. A unique experience in a 300 year old country home with a beautiful Victorian garden. Beautiful setting with views of the Irish sea. Thanks for the outstanding memories of our once-in-a-lifetime trip!

    Glenda2016-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Our family had a wonderful stay at Lenore's house. Lenore and Dickie we're very welcoming to us and our two children and made every effort to accommodate a toddler and a baby - they really went above and beyond for us and are fantastic hosts as well as lovely people! The cottage itself is an amazing place, not to mention the beautiful gardens with views encompassing the mountains and the sea. The guest room and adjoining bathroom had everything we could possibly need during our stay. Also, I don't have enough words to describe the amazing breakfast - freshly made pancakes, freshly picked berries and a delicious fry sent us on our way with full stomachs! We only wish we could have stayed more than one night - there is so much to do and see in the area and Lenore has great local knowledge if you need any tips. Hopefully we'll get a chance to return in the future!

    Columb2015-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Lenore made us feel very welcome. The house was beautiful and even lovelier than we expected. She brought biscuits to have with our tea which was nice. She cooked the best fry for breakfast! It was delicious and we always felt welcome in the kitchen. She even showed me how to make potato bread so I can attempt to try that at home, and she also made some delicious attempts at 'flat sausage'. The two little dogs were so sweet and mainly stayed out of our way (unless I was giving them some fuss). The bathroom was right next to the bedroom and a curtain had been put up so we felt like we weren't intruding and it gave us some privacy. Our room was also right by the entrance which also helped us feel free to come and go. The roads, although single track in places, were easy to get around on and if you did meet someone coming the other way (which was rare) then there was always somewhere to pull in and let them pass, or vice versa. We had a great time and I really recommend coming here. We are intending to stay here next time we visit family. The only thing we regret is not being able to eat more of Lenore's home-made shortbread.

    Heddwen2015-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very nice stay at Lenore's house. The room was pretty and comfortable. The breakfast was huge and the tomatoes from her garden were so tasty! They're very helpful. Lovely stay and we recommend this place.

  • Really beautiful stay. Lenore was such a good host. We were dashing to a wedding and coffee was made for us as we got ready. Really comfortable bed (made by her son!). We couldn't stay for breakfast but they had their own duck and quail's eggs which looked nice

  • Hi! We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful property with an incredible view of the mountains. Lenore was a fantastic host who gave us great tips for places to eat and visit. Her Ulster fry was the best I've ever had. We hope to return someday to this beautiful corner of Northern Ireland. Thank you Lenore!

Highly recommend having your own car to get to this place. Perfect for two or a small family, lots to see and do in the area including beaches and sights a plenty. Its well looked after and had no issues anything, kitchen was fully set up and ready for us to cook up a great dinner. • Our trip to Ireland has been fantastic and that is mainly due to Bridget and how well she hosted. Bridget is a fabulous host and she cooks an amazing full Irish breakfast. The accommodation and whole stay was authentic and very genuinely Irish. She was welcoming and warm and just a brilliant host. On our next trip to Ireland I would like to stay at Bridget's again and I highly recommend her as a host.

Everything was really cosy, clean and well laid out. We would definitely recommend it. We stayed for one night - that was our only regret... Two would have been perfect! Thanks to the hosts Julia and Bill who provided very clear instructions on how to get there and showed us around the cabin. Thanks again, folks!

The room has a great outlook and is in as new condition, there is an adjacent comfortable lounge Siobhan and John are friendly well organised hosts who pay attention to detail. It is a very short walk to Ardglass village restaurants and a lovely area to explore by car

  • After a long drive and ferry crossing we arrived at 8pm to a very warm welcome. Our hosts gave us a number of suggestions of where to eat at that time, we opted for the long established Chinese restaurant and were not dissapointed. We used Ringfad as a base for visiting family. Our room was spacious, comfortable and well appointed. The unexpected large sitting room we had use of was a real boon. Fantastic choice at breakfast, everything was delicious. We liked the whole experience so much we took the room key home with us. Fortunately we are back at Ringfad on Friday and Siobhan says we can return it then!

The house has gas fired central heating, a fully equipped kitchen, featuring a two oven/ eight ring, gas/electric range, a large sitting room with multi fuel burning stove, mezzanine sitting area, looking over Coney Island Bay to the south and the courtyard to the north. Three large twin bedrooms, all with en suite shower rooms, one with a balcony with a view of the Mournes. One double bedroom with adjoining bathroom. One single bedroom, with access to the walled patio garden. There is one double bedroom beside the delightful seahorse bathroom. Downstairs, a single bedroom has a door opening onto the walled patio garden. The downstairs is level to allow easy access for people with mobility issues. There is plenty of storage space in the utility/cloakroom and a washing machine. Guests have access to the patio garden the courtyard garden and a barbecue area. There is safe parking.
Ardglass is half a mile away with shops, restaurants, cafes, post office, garage, historic monuments, marina, harbour and churches. We overlook Ardglass Golf Club, with its spectacular course and are within an easy drive of several other courses, with Royal County Down, 18 miles away, in Newcastle. Coney Island Bay is an ASSI, as a site of European importance for the over wintering Light Bellied Brent Geese. Heron Farm is so named, because the herons gather on our land when the tide is full in the bay. The beach offers safe swimming, 'The Island' itself, (though not actually an island), offers a walk along rocky coves, to the headland, looking out to St.John's Point, and the Isle of Man. Then leads you back along the shore of Killough Bay, a beautiful, tidal estuary, with magnificent sunsets silhouetting the Mournes.
  • We had a wonderful weekend in a lovely house with an extended family group. The location is stunning. The house is beautifully decorated with some stunning features created by Berni. Berni and Rob are so welcoming yet not intrusive in any way. We really enjoyed Heron House. It is a special place - we will definitely go back.

  • We loved our stay at Heron House. It's size makes ideal for a couple of families to spend some time together. The accommodation beautifully decorated with Berni's stunning mosaics ,is very comfortable and has everything you need. Berni is so welcoming and willing to help out. It was great to have a garden for the kids to kick about in while the adults could keep an eye on them from the kitchen whilst enjoying that second cup of coffee. The beach is just across the road and if you have had enough of the picturesque coastline ( never) Newcastle and Castlewellan are a short drive away.

  • Berni and Robbie are the most welcoming hosts full of enthusiasm to try and make your stay a memorable one. Their house is lovely, decorated with ceramics made by Berni! The location for us was perfect! Close to Ardglass golf course, the sea and the mountains. It is a beautiful part of Co Down We were a party of 6 adults and 1 child and we had lots of space and plenty of bathrooms. The cooker and cooking facilities are excellent. We would highly recommend this house.

  • We couldn't have asked for a better place than Heron House to start off our Ireland holiday. Berni was so accommodating it was like coming home to family. The house is huge! We had seven people and there were still rooms we weren't using. It is so gorgeously restored we could hardly believe our luck. Berni's beautiful tile mosaic's adorn the house through out. The property is lush and roomy and is located right across the road from the Irish Sea. The views are amazing. We wish we would have stayed longer.

  • Berni made us feel very welcome. Although she could not be around that weekend she made sure we had all the information we needed before arriving and even left a cake for my mother in law whose birthday we celebrating. The house was very comfortable with plenty of room for our large party. Thank you for a lovely weekend!

  • House was fantastic and really comfortable! We stayed with friends who all had a New Years swim at the nearby Coney Island. Berni couldn't have been more helpful or solicitous to us during the length for our stay and thoughtfully provided essentials like milk and eggs! Additionally I l misplaced my engagement ring durng our stay and Berni was good enough to go find it and keep it safe for me to pick up when I could. Really great people and a great stay!

    Deirdre2017-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Heron House for three nights in July. There were nine of us: four adults and five older kids. The house was perfect for our needs. It was large and very clean and even more beautiful than in the pictures. It has been lovingly restored and every detail shows a harmonious blend of beauty and comfort. All five bedrooms were big and having a bathroom per bedroom was a welcome luxury. The kitchen was able to accommodate our large group for breakfast and we really appreciated the generous welcome packet Berni left for us containing bread, milk, juice, butter, tea and coffee. Other really nice touches supplied in the house were spices and cooking oil, paper towels, shampoo, conditioner and charcoal for the grill. There is a washing machine in the house with laundry detergent and Berni kindly supplied me with a basket so I could hang some laundry out on her washing line in the back garden. We also enjoyed touring the workshops of the very talented Berni and Rob; they could not have been more friendly or welcoming. On our last evening, while the grill was heating for our bbq dinner, Berni instructed us on how to throw a pot and we each had a go on her pottery wheel with distinctly different but fun results. The weather was lovely so the kids spent time outside playing in the yard. Both families missed our dogs at home and especially loved playing with Eska, Berni and Rob's dog. We spent one evening down at the beach and the bay just down the road from the house. The views were lovely and the kids enjoyed scrambling up and playing on the rocks. The house is about two hours from Giant's Causeway which is well worth the visit if the weather is good. We ate at Aldo's restaurant in town twice because the food was that delicious and lunch was a really good value. We had a wonderful time at Heron House. Berni and Rob are excellent hosts, the house is gorgeous and welcoming, and we hope to come back and stay there again someday.
